Speaker 1: FT Breaking news time, Happy trade deadline. Eve. Let's get right to FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal, as there have been some trade since our last live show. Ken, the big one to start with is the Phillies landing Yon Duran to close out games for them for the next two and a half seasons. What did you think of the move and anything else that they could potentially do after this.

00:00:23
Speaker 2: Scott, it was classic Dave Debrowski.

00:00:25
Speaker 1: He sees the best guy in the market.

00:00:27
Speaker 2: He says, I want the best guy in the market, and he gets the best guy in the market, and the return from the Twins perspective pretty good. Mcabel could be a major league starter for them for quite some time. And the catcher is young, but he's considered one of the top one hundred prospects in the game. So I got a text from a manager after that trade saying, d d Dave Dombrowski is the best in the game and this is why he does these things, and he makes moves to win World Series and he's not messing around.

00:00:58
Speaker 1: Do you think that there will be anything else? It sounded like for his press or, he said he's done on the bullpen side because they also signed David robertson recently. Do you think they could add a right handed bat, maybe an outfielder there.

00:01:10
Speaker 2: It's really interesting, Scott that the Mets and Phillies were kind of vying for relievers today, and of course the Mets came up with Ryan Helsley, and they could be both vying for Luis Robert or other bats in the market right now, so that competition is going to continue. I expect them both to make additional moves, and I don't know if it's Louise Robert junior or not. But these teams, again, they see the prize and I don't know that any of these clubs in the NL the real contenders. The Cubs, the Mets, a Phillies see the Dodgers as invincible and that's why we're seeing them behave as they are. And I would add the Padres into that as well. They all believe that there is a pathway here to playing really deep in October.

00:01:52
Speaker 3: So the Mets, Rogers and Helsley with Diaz, that's a pretty formidable back end of the bullpen. I'm assuming Hellsier slide into the eighth inning, Diez will stay in the ninth, and Rogers will clean up wherever they need him against right especially right handed hitters.

00:02:07
Speaker 2: That would be my assumption.

00:02:08
Speaker 1: Aj.

00:02:08
Speaker 2: The beauty of this is if you've used Edwin Diaz, Edwin Diaz a couple of days in a row, then you've got Hellesley and it gives you that depth, that protection.

00:02:18
Speaker 1: And remember they.

00:02:18
Speaker 2: Have some pretty formidable relievers read Garrett right in front of those guys. So this makes them that much stronger. And it's really impressive to see what they're doing with that bullpen and how they kind of adjusted on the fly today to make it that much better.

00:02:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, they give up six prospects, they pick up two relievers. Good work by the Mets. And now Ken, let's get to the padres. So right before we went on, I see a tweet and an article from you and Dennis Lynn about them big game hunting. What do you think happens?

00:02:53
Speaker 2: Well, AJ Preller has a history, he has a track record. He has this incredible run of landing big name talent. He does it, he does it seemingly every year, and he's after some big names. Now, Jaron Durant, he has not given up Stephen Kwan. He's in the mix for him, and even Mason Miller. I heard earlier this week that the A's were not inclined to deal with Aj. They thought he didn't have the players that they would want.

00:03:20
Speaker 3: And here we go.

00:03:21
Speaker 2: AJ's right in the mix. He will not stop. He's relentless. So we'll see how this all turns out, and we'll see if they're willing to give up the great shortstop prospect Derees anythan Salas the catcher who is hurt. But I anticipate something big happening with the Padres, and of course they're still trying to move Cease and possibly Suarez. They're doing all these different kinds of things. They'll have to backfill if they move Cease with the starting pitcher.

00:03:49
Speaker 1: Really, they're capable of anything.

00:03:51
Speaker 3: We know that, all right, Ken, Well, then who's left who's left out there? Of whether relief market starting, we haven't seen a lot of starting pitchers move. We haven't seen hardly any bats move. Who's next?

00:04:03
Speaker 2: No starting pitchers really, and that's one thing that we'll be looking for. Gallon and Kelly in Arizona, Alcandra and Cabrera in Miami. If they move, these are going to be interesting things to watch. My understanding is the prices on all those guys, according to the people trying to get them, are sky high, and maybe that's why there hasn't been any deals of note with starting pictures of any consequence yet relief pictures.

00:04:29
Speaker 1: There are still a ton remaining.

00:04:30
Speaker 2: You've got David Bednor maybe at the top of the list right now. You've got Griffin Jacks if the Twins want to move him, the Colorado relievers, they've been in play, Pete Fairbanks, Mason Miller. As we mentioned, there are still teams with significant needs in the bullpen as well. Detroit would be won, the Red Sox, the Yankees. Of course, there's going to be a lot going on in the next whatever how many hours we have left. There's a lot still to be done.

00:04:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, and at least somewhat of a price has been set here or a short term rental reliever and then a longer term rental reliever. We'll see if that kicks up the market. Otherwise we'll see you tomorrow. Ken, thank you for the time. Okay, thanks guys, So here's the deal for us. We're gonna be on still for a little bit to break down those moves. Since our last live show, Fair territory is also on tomorrow after the trade deadline. Special timing for you. We'll give you more details tomorrow when we're on during the day from one to five Eastern Ken. We'll be on with Alana later on in the day. Let's kick it back here and let's go over some of the major moves that happened in the last few hours. Let's start with the biggest one, name wise and team control wise, and that's Jon Duran moving from the Twins over to the Phillies. Jose Alvarado got popped for Peds aj and this bullpen needed help as it is, So what do they do? They signed David Robertson. You don't have to trade anyone for you just have to give up money. And we should see him hopefully contributing for them in a somewhat high leverage role if he looks like he did last year. He was a strikeout machine again last year. And then Duran's great. I mean, that's great stuff for them in the ninth inning. How much do you think this makes them a World Series contender like they've been in the last few years.

00:06:11
Speaker 3: It definitely helps. Duran is the guy they've been looking for in the ninth inning, they've used Romano, which he's been Okay.

00:06:18
Speaker 1: I think he's been bad.

00:06:20
Speaker 3: Yeah what Yeah, Listen, Duran is a bona fide ninth inning closer guy and in Philly he can be great and he can become one of those guys that can get him to the next level. And this is what, like Ken said, this is what Dave Dombrowski does. He goes out, he shoots for the big fish, and he usually gets him because he's not afraid to trade guys like Able and Tate because you know what, at the end of the day, if he wins a World Series in Philly, he doesn't care because the fans can give him a rust. And usually after he wins, winner gets in there, he gets let go anyway, so he moves on to the next team. It does it again. So God bless you, Dave Dombrowski. You're the man.

00:06:57
Speaker 1: So they give up a low you know, an a ball prospect and Edward Tyt and we're gonna get JJ Cooper's thoughts on the prospect return coming up soon. Mickabel has made six big league starts. Here's the return package for the Twins. Mckabel wasn't cracking the starting rotation for the Phillies this season. He's twenty three years old. That's a guy you're gonna have league minimum for the next few years. If you're the Twins. That's exactly what you're looking for. The upsides there, the floors there too, as at least I would say a back end starter. The Phillies didn't have to give up Andrew Paynter. They didn't have to give up Aden Miller. That's their best pitcher. And then Miller's their best position player along with Justin Crawford. So able's up there, but it's probably not their top three in terms of prospects. And this is a guy for two and a half years now that, if he's healthy, is a top five closer in the sport for the Phillies. I remember seeing the last few days reports like, oh, the asking price for some of these guys is off the charts. I saw that. I was like that, looks okay. I actually thought they would get a little bit more, probably one more guy from the Phillies or from someone else. You know. The Phillies won this because they're a little bit more aggressive. Dave Dombrowski is more aggressive than most other gms.

00:08:07
Speaker 3: He doesn't let TAYI sit there as an eighteen year old and say, oh man, in four years, this guy could be a starting catcher. In four years, Dave Debroski's probably won't have that job, so he doesn't care. Yeah, and mckamblay's like he's not getting the rotation right now. We have Painter and some other guys coming. Okay, twins enjoy. We'll take Duran for what three years he has left, so we know for the next three years our closer is probably going to be Duran. Again, I love this move. I think this is a great move. And I don't know.

00:08:38
Speaker 1: And for the Phillies here here's gen Will so some comments here as we go. Love but the Phillies have done and I mean, yeah, now bring on Suarez. We'll see it could be an outfielder too. Like Ken mentioned, they're going for some of the same guys them and the Mets. Maybe they get a Luis Robert. I think that would be a really nice we'll add for them. Bat Wise, Duran has postseason experience too. Four postseason appearances, eighteen batters faced, no runs, two hits, six strikeouts, no extra base hits. You'll take that. Yeah pretty good, Yeah, pretty damn good when you're facing the best hitting. For me, I'm curious on a team like the Mariners, they picked up Josh Naylor. It sounded like, according at least some reports, including John Hayman, that they were in on Duran and then on Helsleyan didn't get them. I'm like, they've got a better prospect covered in terms of what the industry values than the Phillies for sure. I'm like, I wonder what held them back. We'll find out at some point, or do they get one of the other guys available, like a Bednar or Dennis Santana, Because you figure the Phillies are done on bullpen, so at least if you're competing for bullpen guys, you don't have to worry about competing against Dave Dombrowski at this point. That's big.

00:09:57
Speaker 3: No, that is a big thing. But the Phillies are done. Now what do they do next? What are the What do the Phillies do next?

00:10:02
Speaker 1: What do you want them to do? What do you think they will outfield Luis Robert.

00:10:06
Speaker 3: I don't know if he's the answer. Everyone keeps using the name, but I mean maybe I don't know, I just don't know. I think they need they need they need another bat for me in order to make this a complete roster that can win a World Series. I think they could win a World Series now if they if the guys stay healthy. But if they get that one bat, this could be a really dangerous, dangerous team come October.

00:10:27
Speaker 1: What about Gene Suarez, Yeah, I mean how long is boem out? I don't know. What if he's in the deal. What if the Diamondbacks get Bome for next year? The Diamonbacks are trying to compete again next year.

00:10:37
Speaker 3: I mean, that's that might be the thing for Suarez.

00:10:39
Speaker 1: And someone else other people.

00:10:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, but I would the Phillies, I would think about that, and because then they have the might to resign him too. That's the thing.

00:10:50
Speaker 1: And Boone's a free agent after next year. I think he's got about maybe ten million bucks.

00:10:54
Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, would you rather have Genosuarez come in or have Alec Bohm who he a nice player? But I mean, if you're the Phillies, Tuirez goes there and helps let them to the World Series, you resign him. You don't have to worry about.

00:11:07
Speaker 1: It right now. Geno, of course, yeah, and he came right back after, you know, missing a day and looked pretty damn good to me. His last hit ever or his last ab ever for the Ninebacks a double. Here's JJ Cooper from Baseball America on the prospect return for the Twins, who are definitely in cell mode. And finally, a big difference from last year is that bigger name prospects are moving.

00:11:31
Speaker 4: We hadn't seen a top one hundred prospect traded at the deadline since twenty twenty three. We hadn't seen a prospect this highly rated traded since the Wan Soto deal at the deadline in twenty twenty two. But Yuan Duran is now a Philly. What did the Twins get back? Eduardo Tayit is our number fifty prospect in the game. He is one of the best young power prospects behind the plate that you're going to see. It is massive raw power that he he gets do in games pretty regularly. It's a big arm. There are questions about his ability to catch. He's going to have to keep working on that. That's the kind of the question that he's facing. But the offensive upside is pretty immense. And then mckabel, he was a top hundred prospect for US until we just updated our list and added the MLB draftees. He was in the nineties before that. Very nice bounce back season for him last year kind of with a big step back for him, but the first round pick from a few years ago kind of solidified everything. This year has reached the majors. I expect that he's probably going to go into that rather depleted Twins rotation right away. Could be a mid rotation starter if everything breaks right. So high price was paid wander M's really good number of prospects that got back for the Twins are going to go right to the top of the list of prospects we've seen traded at the deadline in recent years.

00:12:51
Speaker 1: Good stop, JJ, thank you, and make sure you get to Baseball America. Get yourself a subscription. The best in the bids at breaking down the prospects. Yeah, hundred plus on the fastball, you got the upper ninety splinker. He was one of the first, if not the first guys to really make that pitch popular in this modern era, and he's been on fire this year. Look, we have a reporter on the scene in the state of Pennsylvania. Covering this trade for US. Eric Kratz is here. Kratz Duran's got a two toh one eras giving up one home run the entire year. How excited should Philly fans be about this move, along with them picking up David Robertson a week and a half ago.

00:13:28
Speaker 5: Ever since Jose Alarado went down, they've been looking for a closer. They have a legitimate, bona fide closer that's not only just a one year rental.

00:13:40
Speaker 1: That's right, two and a half years for jan Duran. Was that important to them? Alvarado is a free agent after this year.

00:13:48
Speaker 5: He had an option that at the beginning of the year looked like they were going to pick it up. I think it was all It wasn't very much, but now that he's a juicer, you know, Jim Bowden even said it, I wouldn't bring the guy back, Like, why pick up the option? You don't know what kind of guy you get. I don't think it's that simple for the Phillies. I think it could be still on the table. But yeah, it's always great to lock down your closer role, and you know you do it in a trade for Mick Abel, who filled in admirably and for his first doubting you know, kind of his strikeout numbers kind of like kind of came back to the mean a little bit. He's not gonna be that monster strikeout starter, but it seems like he can be, like JJ said, more like a three in a rotation. I think might be his ceiling. And they never even had to touch Andrew Paynter, so who they feel could be a one or two in a rotation.

00:14:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, good work by them on that front. And also just a reminder, Jose Alvarado is gonna come back, but he can't pitch in the postseason. That's why getting someone like this was so important too for the Phillies. And this helps to solidify the bullpen one here on the fills and then we'll transition to the Mets Krats. Anything else left for the gun slinger Dave Dombrowski, he said he's done on the bullpen front. You got two things left.

00:15:11
Speaker 5: I would have said he needed one more in the bullpen. That's saying that David Robertson is who David Robertson is.

00:15:17
Speaker 3: I get it.

00:15:17
Speaker 5: He said they're done on the bullpen front. But I just I feel like, yes, you go Duran, you go Kirkering, you go Matt Strom. We've seen plenty of teams when the World Series the last two years? Do they have only three guys? Is that all they have? Like it's something that you wonder do you want to have that fourth solid guy? Now, if they're done on the bullpen, then to me, that means kind of what Jim said earlier today, Maybe they'll go big. Maybe they'll go big in the position player, because I think it's gonna take something big to get a your Hitosuarez. All depends where they feel. Like Alec Bohm is, do the Diamondbacks want a would it be a bomb for Suarez type of yeah?

00:16:10
Speaker 1: But more but absolutely more.

00:16:13
Speaker 5: But I'm saying where they get a big league baseball player to step in for next year in Bom, I think.

00:16:20
Speaker 1: That's certainly possible for them. And we can cross off two names that were potentially going for him, the Yankees and the Reds. They got their third baseman. So now you're probably down to four ish teams, right, Bubbs, Tigers, Phillies, Phillies, Mariners, Astros, Astros. So five right, five teams and I'm sure someone will tell us we're forgetting about someone in the comments, but we love you. Let's get to the New York Metropolitans. S n Y Inside covers the Yankees and the Mets. Andy Martine joining us right now. Andy, thanks for the time this evening, and wow, we had a big day that we saw from the Metropolitans. So what do you think about the return for them getting both rogers who can do a lot of things out of the bullpen and give them a variety that they're looking for. Plus Ryan Helsley to go along with Edwin Diez for eight to nine. That's special, not.

00:17:12
Speaker 6: Bad in Gregory Soto last week. They've jumped the lefty market there already. So yeah, the Mets have done quite a bit to go all in on their bullpen and gave up some prospects that hurt them a little bit, guys that their player development people.

00:17:26
Speaker 7: Liked in both deals today.

00:17:29
Speaker 6: But what this tells you, I think is a couple of things about David Stearns that you like if you're a Mets fan, is that he is not one of these gms. Despite the Harvard degree and the quarter zip and the whole modern profile that he seemed the part that he seems to play.

00:17:48
Speaker 7: He's not one of these gms.

00:17:49
Speaker 6: That is going to be overly cautious and probabilistic. He's pushing some chips into the middle of the table here and saying, yes, some of these guys might hurt me. You've got the stuff up with the screen right now, Baiez, Dome, Tidwell or three guys that could hurt to give up. But the Mets understand that the next two years are their best window to win a World Series for a couple of reasons. One, Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nima aren't getting any older, or excuse me, aren't getting any younger.

00:18:18
Speaker 7: We're all getting older.

00:18:20
Speaker 6: And you know, obviously Soto is in the core of his prime right now, twenty six years old. Labor uncertainty in twenty seven is a factor here, not just because we don't know what that season is going to look like, but because, for all the Mets know, there could be new financial rules in place at that point that limit Steve Cohen's ability to use his financial resources. That's a whole other topic, but it's one of the things in the mix that they're thinking about. So it's like, let's go all in now, and it shows you that Stearns has got that instinct to be a little bit of a gambler rather than just that guy going well, Ryan Helsley improves their playoff odds by three point six percent.

00:18:58
Speaker 7: So do we really want to.

00:18:59
Speaker 6: Give up eleven years of control? That's not what the Mets are thinking like right now.

00:19:03
Speaker 1: They're all in how much has changed with the Mets farm system in the last few years. I mean, you see, well, one of the guys that goes back in these deals was was Drew Gilbert right in the in the that was the earlier deal, the Rogers deal, who was acquired in that justin Verlander trade? Right, So they did do this like short reload to try and boost up their farm system. So you know, you mentioned, yeah, it definitely hurts, But how much better off was their farm system heading into this season? And side question, how much does it help for them to have this pitching development machine going for them so that they can line and say, you know what, we actually can grow some of these players here.

00:19:47
Speaker 6: That's an on point question, Scott. The first one though, they definitely have a solid farm system where they haven't dealt any of their top guys and won't deal any of their top guys despite being all in. And Bill Up deserves some credit for that because he went and got Drew Gilbert. Steve Cohen too, because if you remember that trade deadline, he ate a lot of money on Burlander insures her to get prospects back. But a guy like Gilbert becomes an asset that can either become an outfielder for you down the line or a trade piece, and obviously the Mets chose the latter, so that helps, and they reloaded at that trade dot deadline under Eppler, and then the pitching piece. Yeah, that's one hundred percent what the Mets are thinking. They're good at developing pitchers. They feel like they know how to do it, so you can trade a guy like Blake Blade Tidwell, excuse me who they do like? I mean, he projects is probably a future reliever of a back end starter, so you can part with a guy with that profile. But still they're confident, to your point, Scott, that they can develop the next guy. They can deplete a little from their pitching and their system and still be able to churn out pictures. Having said that, I see you're putting up the tweet teas to my column right there. It's like the first blush reaction in the industry. Was it to that trade the giant's trade? Earlier today? Like I was getting a lot of texts like this can't be real, right, what the heck?

00:21:08
Speaker 7: What you know? What the bleep? But what is this?

00:21:10
Speaker 6: Because they gave up a lot of prospect capital, a lot of years of control. But again it speaks to yeah, relievers are expensive, but we're trying to win the World Series.

00:21:17
Speaker 5: Or what because they've built a bullpen. Tell me if I'm wrong, and they're doing it in the trade kind of like the twenty twenty or twenty twenty one rays where you got a lefty and Sodo coming from here, ninety nine Ryan Hellsley over top Edwin Diaz over coming from the side, and then you got Tyler Rogers. Is that a Do you feel like it's a concerted effort to have such unique profiles as pictures or was it just we're collecting the best we can collect.

00:21:48
Speaker 7: No, that's a good question.

00:21:49
Speaker 1: Eric.

00:21:50
Speaker 6: I can't claim to have asked that direct question to David Stearns today, but there's no doubt that they mean they think of everything and I thought of that too, And sure I'm not.

00:22:00
Speaker 7: Certainly we're not the only ones.

00:22:01
Speaker 6: All the different looks, all the different arm angles, and and that's gotta be. I mean, I've never I've never been in a major league batter's box like two of you have, but I can imagine that inning to inning facing looks that are that different in a playoff game or in any game has to be extra hard.

00:22:20
Speaker 7: So for sure that that helps Andy.

00:22:24
Speaker 3: What's next for the Mets? What else did they need? I mean, they solidified their bullpen. Right with the three trades they've made, what would be next for the Mets wish list?

00:22:33
Speaker 6: So I do think aja that they did a lot of their heavy lifting today. Obviously they built this, this terrific bullpen where they had a bullpen when we woke up this morning that wasn't really ready for the postseason. So having accomplished the thing that they needed to accomplish to become World Series contenders, now they can do the thing that they want to accomplish but isn't a need, which is we'll try to lengthen the lineup a little bit. Most likely place to do that is center field. They've obviously been talking to the White Sox about the center fielder that is the hottest commodity right now. They've talked to Mark Fiento, White talks about Mark Fiento's about Louis and Helicunya. I made a call around eight thirty eight forty five tonight, so about an hour ago, and nothing was hot or imminent on any center field front, whether it's Mullins or Robert Junior or anyone. But as when they wake up tomorrow or maybe as they work into the wee hours tonight, they could try to reignite at centerfield talk.

00:23:34
Speaker 7: But look, they understand that.

00:23:38
Speaker 6: Center field would be better if Jeff McNeil weren't your everyday center fielder in the playoffs. But they understand that unlike where they were at with the bullpen, they can survive.

00:23:46
Speaker 7: With McNeil in center.

00:23:49
Speaker 1: Andy. The Met's had a nice little seven game win streak recently, but they just ran into a Padres buds and I know they don't generally play great over there, and the Padres were playing up to the competition here. Do you think that having a bad series like this against San Diego and seeing there what foreheaded monster bullpen and yet they're potentially still going after another one. Partially sparked this from David Stearns, Like, like you mentioned we got Soto, now, we picked up two other high leverage arms to go along with DZ plus Reed Garrett's had a great year. Sanaos got Raelian Sodo. Like now, in my mind, I'm looking at their pen on paper and I'm like, for a playoff bullpen, this is probably a top three, if not at the worst, top five bullpen in baseball. So did they take a page out of San Diego's book here?

00:24:38
Speaker 6: I'd probably not explicitly, Scott, because I know they identified bullpen for a long time in weeks as they were preparing for the deadline to like, you have to improve the bullpen. But the Padres certainly give an example right in front of their faces this week of why that's so important for sure, and I agree with you. They have a top playoff bullpen now and that's mission accomplished for the trade deadline and it's not not even the day of, so that's got to be a pretty good feeling for them.

00:25:04
Speaker 1: Andy, We appreciate the time, thanks for hopping on with us this evening, and happy trade deadline Day two. You coming up tomorrow.

00:25:12
Speaker 7: All right, guys, thanks anytime.

00:25:13
Speaker 1: Thank you. Make sure you check out Andy at Martino NYC on Twitter. He's going to be on S and Y of course, covering the deals that go down over the next what is it now, fourteen hours something like that. All right, So let's finish strong here, ft fan. We got about five minutes to go. Two things to cover. Number one. We did have another trade while we were doing this. The Cubs get a starter, Mike Soroka, and Cubs fans are thinking big and they need a guy to start a playoff game for them. Is Mike Soroka, that guy coming from the Nats. He's twenty seven years old, He's got about a strikeout, printing close to a five era and sixteen starts, right handed pitcher. Tough ballpark at times, Nationals Park, No, no, no, Chicago could be tough.

00:26:05
Speaker 3: Nationals Park isn't tough.

00:26:06
Speaker 1: No Chicago could be tough.

00:26:07
Speaker 3: This is what the Cubs fans were expecting.

00:26:09
Speaker 1: But exactly right.

00:26:11
Speaker 3: It's a depth peace for him. It's a death peace for him. It's a death peace with you know, where they're out in their rotation, with their starting rotation. It's a death piece Horton. Kate Horton hasn't pitched as much ever, Tian's banged up a little bit, right, and Monaga hasn't been great because the last few starts. It's a depth peast for him.

00:26:28
Speaker 5: It makes sense.

00:26:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, they already lost Steel, right, so it's a death piece and if they need to, he can make him into a swing guy. If they get to the postseason, he can be a long, you know, three four inning reliever if they need him something like that.

00:26:39
Speaker 1: A lot of teams wanted him as a reliever in the offseason, and the Nationals were like, we'll pay you to be a starter, and he wants to be a starter. But teams think he can really tick up. Didn't he do that last year? I think it was And I feel like I remember seeing him out of the bullpen last year and his stuff was up like three miles an hour out of the bullpen. So maybe that's another piece for them. But Cubs fans are expecting something big. They're expecting some big potentially two big things. I mean, they can use they need another like a big game starter and then Kratz maybe a bullpen piece, maybe a third baseman. To me, I think it's the starter. I mean, they need a starter.

00:27:19
Speaker 5: They need they need Chota or Jamison to if not both, to come back to form prime form by the playoffs. But man, I think I get it that they're in on third base. I just I wonder if I don't care about the development of Matt Shaw. I just wonder if this team's playing well, if what they do with him, you send him down to Triple A. I guess if you can get a Hinny Suarez, yes, but not if it's just like a kind of replacement like they passed. In my opinion, they passed on Alex Bregman in the offseason. Maybe they never passed on them, maybe they never were in in those sweepstakes.

00:28:03
Speaker 1: They sent an offer, it just wasn't as big as the other ones.

00:28:06
Speaker 5: So they passed because they felt like they had Matt Shaw. Now they've seen Matt Shaw. Are they happy with what they have?

00:28:13
Speaker 1: To me?

00:28:13
Speaker 5: I think the starter is to play.

00:28:15
Speaker 1: They have the defense or a very good defense from Shaw, right, better than expected.

00:28:20
Speaker 3: They thought he hit. They just thought you weren't sure about his defense.

00:28:23
Speaker 1: Been the reverse. Yeah, yeah, some people think and Wrigley might not be kind for Soroka. He has been much better two or fewer and runs in five of his last six addings. But, like Aj mentioned, depth piece for the Cubs at this point, we'll see what else they have. And I mean they could have called up Owen Casey. Just now for Ian Happ who hit the shelf, he doesn't get called up. I think he's going to get dealt or that could be the big piece they deal with is pretty big profitect you mentioned him earlier. I think if Ian Happ goes down and they think they're keeping everyone, he maybe gets the call. They called it ballisteros Who's who's gonna guess be more of the d H kind of role for them. So we'll see everything's about to change for them. So all right, let's finish strong here we have we have a little chart that you sent me that they.

00:29:14
Speaker 3: Need to build a statue of me in Minnesota.

00:29:16
Speaker 1: I'm just saying, can you read this too, because this is going to go on the podcast later for the listening crowd later, So can you just read or explain.

00:29:23
Speaker 3: It's twenty two thousand and three off season. I was traded to the Giants from the Twins for Joe Nathan Francisco, Loriano and booth Bonzer. Joe Nathan went on to be a Hall of Famer. For the Twins, Loriano had a unbelievable career. For the Twins, they traded Francisco Loriano for Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez, who I don't even know who. That is the important part here is Eduardo Escobar, who I then who then was trade who was traded from the White Sox, who was my teammate for Lariano or from from the Twins to the White Sox whatever.

00:29:56
Speaker 1: White Twins.

00:29:58
Speaker 3: Loriano was the Twins, they went back for each other, so they were traded for each other. Then Eduardo Escobar was traded from the Twins for Gabriel Maybe who cares. Johan Durant was the main piece, so edwardo Oskebar was traded for two guys in Duran Right. Then Durant was traded for Mick Abel and Eduardo Tay. So twenty two years later, I'm still helping the Twins. So Twins, build me the statue. Build me the statue, okay, because I'm still helping your team and I haven't been there in over twenty years. So one of the best trades of all time for the Twins was trading me away and they got Joe Mauer is in the Hall of Fame and the Giants. You know what they got, dippity nothing.

00:30:44
Speaker 1: Well, they got you for one year.

00:30:47
Speaker 3: And then they signed Mike BETHENI. How'd that go?

00:30:51
Speaker 5: I think they just need to n they need to put your statue in the Metrodome. That's where they need to put your statue.

00:30:58
Speaker 3: One of the few trades that Brian's Avian missed on, not because I had a bad year either, but because I beat him in arbitration and they told me I'd only be there one year. But then I ended up with the White Sox that won the world too, So it worked out for everybody.

00:31:11
Speaker 1: Six degrees of aj present.

00:31:13
Speaker 3: It's still going because who knows later down the road, make abone how you could be traded for something else. So that came from Dustin Morris, the Twins crack pr guy. That was pretty funny.

00:31:22
Speaker 1: That's a really good chart. That's that's freaking crazy. It's crazy, right, Yeah, that's crazy. That just went down tonight and you are legit connected to it. You know. Sometimes they do the degrees of separation where it's like this person faced this person for one a. It's like these are direct trades leading up to right now. That's that's good ship trade deadline special for you. We're gonna get some rest. Okay, this was a nice, fun thirty bonus show because we had some big deals tonight. But one to six Eastern for you tomorrow. We'll bring on a ton of guests. We'll bring people on as moves go down. We'll give good depth to every trade in terms of breaking it down that happens. And I think there are going to be a ton because most teams haven't done much yet, starters haven't moved. There's still a reliever market there. There's a few bats that should definitely get moved, like a Gino Suarez. I would think Luis Robert, I would think Cedric Mullins, Ryan O'Hearn. There's a lot to do tomorrow, so get some rest. Everyone, We got a big day. We'll see you then
