[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, this is Mountain West Overland Expo and we're gonna show you some of the coolest stuff, right?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, we're not gonna show you the worst stuff.
[SPEAKER_11]: It's only the coolest.
[SPEAKER_11]: Is this your doing?
[SPEAKER_05]: The K truck is my doing.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, the Ford is not my doing.
[SPEAKER_11]: So who got the idea to kind of stack these overlanding rigs on top of each other?
[SPEAKER_05]: I've wanted an active for the longest time and then my buddy bought the four fifty and said hey you should buy one now so we can put it on top of the diamond back cover for overland expo.
[SPEAKER_05]: So we did it drove it up there.
[SPEAKER_05]: It would sketchy but it looks cool.
[SPEAKER_05]: You drove this on the highway.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, my mic drove it on the highway from Denver all the way up here the way that it sits right now.
[SPEAKER_11]: Even with the little like little model acting on the motorcycle.
[SPEAKER_05]: That we just put up there, but the bike was up there, posted a bunch of videos of it.
[SPEAKER_11]: So if you were taking this actually off-road, the acting is new to me.
[SPEAKER_05]: I've been restoring it for the past couple months now.
[SPEAKER_05]: I've taken it through like rampart range, things like that.
[SPEAKER_05]: It's the active attack, so it's got ultra low first reverse, it's got a rear locker, so it can go off road.
[SPEAKER_11]: I didn't know there was an active attack, so they made an off road one, because we have one, but it's just a standard four by four, which isn't great, because it doesn't have a low range.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the low range is good to help getting it up the big ramps to get it onto the cover.
[SPEAKER_05]: It makes parts a little bit more difficult to find, it's got different rear CVs and everything, but it's a cool kind of rare model of it.
[SPEAKER_05]: Where'd you find it?
[SPEAKER_05]: I found it, look, well, not locally.
[SPEAKER_05]: I found it in Salt Lake City actually, just on Marketplace, so it was already imported, brought it in, and then I just kind of touch up the pain, read it the interior a little bit, and this is kind of how it's sat when it was in Japan for most of its life.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the problem, of course, here in Colorado, we can't, at least not yet, register them.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think it goes.
[SPEAKER_05]: You guys made a good video on it, and I think next July is when you can register them legally.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it so we can actually take another road.
[SPEAKER_05]: But I gotta say, I'm a little bit taller than you are.
[SPEAKER_05]: I don't actually fit in a thing.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I'm pushing it.
[SPEAKER_05]: I'm only like five, nine, five, ten.
[SPEAKER_11]: So whenever I drive the ACTI, my knees hit like the blinkers and like the windshield wipers are always going off.

[SPEAKER_11]: You know, in terms of like payload and utility, it might have more payload than four fifty.
[SPEAKER_05]: It's pretty practical.
[SPEAKER_05]: A lot of people overlook them, but now that we can actually
[SPEAKER_05]: get him here after the twenty five year old.
[SPEAKER_05]: It's it's rad.
[SPEAKER_05]: I love it.

[SPEAKER_11]: So you've got everything from built-out.

[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, our friends are John's right for by four John's for by four gladiator You know really built up on some gigantic tires.
[SPEAKER_11]: I'm saying that needs a three ninety two hundred.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah probably when you're rolling on tires that big it definitely needs a three ninety two
[SPEAKER_11]: And so it's a really kind of interesting place to come to kind of find out where and what the trends are.
[SPEAKER_11]: And as we walk around here, we should kind of look for trends as well, seeing what's popular and what people are doing.
[SPEAKER_11]: Because this is where it all kind of starts.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, we used to walk around some of the car shows.
[SPEAKER_11]: So, I want to show you one trend, okay Roman?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, let's see it.
[SPEAKER_11]: So, flatbed tray beds, all right?
[SPEAKER_11]: Australian, Australian friends, friends, call this kind of trays.
[SPEAKER_11]: And I think they're becoming more and more popular in the United States.
[SPEAKER_11]: So here we have a Jeep Gladiator, which is a mid-sized truck, one of the longest ones.
[SPEAKER_11]: With kind of a little box.
[SPEAKER_11]: I look at this, there's a Tacoma.
[SPEAKER_11]: There's a Tacoma here.
[SPEAKER_11]: With also this kind of flat bed, it's got storage boxes on the bottom, and a lot of storage on top as well.
[SPEAKER_11]: And the radar system?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes, underneath.
[SPEAKER_11]: I think what the tray bed gets you is kind of the ability to do whatever you want, right?
[SPEAKER_11]: When you lose the sides of the bed, then it opens up more width, right?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_11]: Like you said, the more options, you could remove this top box if you don't want to.
[SPEAKER_11]: You could put something on it.
[SPEAKER_11]: It's also longer than it would be otherwise, right?
[SPEAKER_11]: My only question when they do this is there's a change of payload of the truck.
[SPEAKER_11]: It feels like you're kind of exceeding the payload here.
[SPEAKER_11]: Well, but most of these trucks have different springs, shocks, tires.
[SPEAKER_11]: Some of these vehicles that we see here are really modified, so it's up to the builder, right?
[SPEAKER_11]: You know, they need to know what exactly what they're doing and exactly what type of payload.
[SPEAKER_11]: I'm going to play Devil's Advocate.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes, I'm going to say that there's more to payload than just springs and tracks.
[SPEAKER_11]: There's also like half shafts, there's also transmission.
[SPEAKER_11]: How about the radiators?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, exactly cool.
[SPEAKER_11]: You know, if you overload it and the engine can cool itself.
[SPEAKER_11]: You know, that's really important as well, right?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, so I think you're kind of running the risk of potentially overloading a vehicle that's not designed to, hey, look, I see our friends are right or justice.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_03]: But the overlining, it's definitely that community.

[SPEAKER_11]: Well, I would wager a bicycle is more rewarding
[SPEAKER_11]: I would wager you're not going to get very far in a bicycle.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes, but you're moving slower than a motorcycle and also you're surrounded by more environment even.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, well, if you're going to get on that route when we were going down from dead horse.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes, to Fairbanks who's a guy in a unicycle.
[SPEAKER_11]: So that's even more engaging.

[SPEAKER_11]: I mean you can if you want to but
[SPEAKER_11]: But even if you have lower budgets, there's a little bit for everybody here.
[SPEAKER_11]: Well, here's the thing, Andre, as you know, I just came back from Pebble Beach.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_11]: And there you have to have a million dollars.
[SPEAKER_11]: Forty-toyty?
[SPEAKER_11]: There you have to have a million dollars just to kind of feel like you're part of the natural environment here.
[SPEAKER_11]: Here you don't.
[SPEAKER_11]: No, you can take an old XJ and convert it into something that's more off-roady.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, well, this Tacoma is probably not
[SPEAKER_11]: Super super affordable, but it's very nice.
[SPEAKER_11]: Very well done.
[SPEAKER_11]: Look at the Stundra is way up in the air.
[SPEAKER_10]: I know, I'm not a huge fan of tires that stick that far out beyond the body.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, well, because you need the, you know, fenders, fender flares or mach-flops.
[SPEAKER_11]: But you can drive that in the rain.
[SPEAKER_11]: You're going to blind people.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_11]: But this seems to be very much a Toyota centric part of the show.
[SPEAKER_11]: Well, you know Toyota is huge in this community.
[SPEAKER_11]: I mean, they've been in this community non-stop over decades and decades in decades and it kind of shows.
[SPEAKER_11]: But now, other manufacturers, including Nissan and GMC and Lexus and RAM and Jeep, they're all entering the game as well as far as overland is concerned.
[SPEAKER_10]: I think this is another trend that we're seeing here.
[SPEAKER_10]: It's exemplified by this rooftop tent, that rooftop tent, and that one over there.
[SPEAKER_10]: With solar.
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, we see this.
[SPEAKER_11]: So rooftop tents have gotten big, Andre.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes, they've become party tents.
[SPEAKER_11]: I mean, look, look at the size of this thing.
[SPEAKER_11]: You can get like a small boy scout camp in there.
[SPEAKER_11]: They become terrible.
[SPEAKER_11]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_11]: So like, some of the open, like a book, some open, just like an accordion, some of them are triangular, wedge style.
[SPEAKER_11]: I mean, there's so many different styles.
[SPEAKER_10]: But once upon a time, you can only maybe get two people in there.
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, now, like I said, they're just getting much more massive.
[SPEAKER_10]: I'm guessing the next iteration of rooftop tents is going to be comfort.
[SPEAKER_11]: So should we look at the pebble here?
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, you know, I haven't seen inside of this pebble.
[SPEAKER_11]: So pebble is a camping trailer, which is electrically powered.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, as well.
[SPEAKER_11]: So this could be quite interesting.
[SPEAKER_11]: It's good we can decen.
[SPEAKER_11]: Could be the next
[SPEAKER_11]: Airstream maybe the next trend not a current trend right, but maybe within five years will be seeing a lot more trailers but actually driven wheels right because a lot of offroad don't always say if you're pulling a small trailer behind you afrode It's like an anchor right you're pulling an anchor across but if that trailer actually powered you along
[SPEAKER_11]: It could be a really big deal.
[SPEAKER_11]: And can you like, like, with a real control park this without actually having a vehicle?
[SPEAKER_10]: I think that's the idea.

[SPEAKER_11]: They're all aluminum very well made and they're made right here in Colorado.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I think people who are into the outdoors come to Colorado.

[SPEAKER_11]: So it makes sense that eventually they want to not just experience the outdoors, but then you know get involved in the field of outdooring.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what we do is start with the limited with the integrated console.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've added the CATSkin leather seats with the white and mango suede piping.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've added the mobile part all weather formats.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you can kind of see, there's a really nice rust orange stitch that runs throughout the whole interior.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then stopping at the steering wheel.
[SPEAKER_00]: For the first time, we've added paddle shifters here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've added, we've changed the steering wheel bezel color to this liquid titanium.
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, it's a more athletic appeal for the whole interior.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously as you go throughout the car, we've got the stolen go-seats.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've stowed one seat to kind of show that the massive volume that you get out of the interior.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then we've got the Yeti cooler here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've kept everything really open in the back because you could showcase that you can put a bike inside the vehicle.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can put a paddleboard in there or a surfboard, whatever you like.
[SPEAKER_00]: In the back we've done something different.
[SPEAKER_00]: I see a lot of minivan owners that actually take their third row and they stow it and they never open it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the idea here is to question whether we can make the third row option or not.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's got this heavy duty cargo floor and it showcases that you can put wetter dry gear in the back here.
[SPEAKER_11]: And just how it kind of is more of a utility function, rather than just seat function.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: And here too, like if you want to camp out in a vehicle, I need places to put stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: I need things to, you know, I need to be able to lay flat if I'm going to, if it's raining out, I need a place to, that's got shelter.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing is, we try to respond to what customer has been asking for, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: So they asked for a power outlet.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've got a hundred, fifteen volt outlet here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've been hearing people say, you need more, you need a marine grade.
[SPEAKER_00]: We also did the space-aver spare in here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, which is space-aver spare?
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: For years that we've gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's tucked on the side.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's tucked on the side.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can get a vacuum, you can get the subwoofer, or you can get the space-aver spare.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, it's just trying to address customer needs in a different way.

[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, we wanted to speak maybe a little bit on the exterior.

[SPEAKER_08]: It's a two and a half and a two point seven five and a front.
[SPEAKER_08]: So two and three quarters and two and a half and a back.
[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, so it's a little bit more level look.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, the old we drive already has one inch on it.
[SPEAKER_08]: So it's on top of the old we drive.
[SPEAKER_08]: So technically it's like three and a half.
[SPEAKER_08]: But that way you can actually have the nice big tire on there.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: So the tire is thirty one inch.
[SPEAKER_04]: Uh-huh.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's two inches bigger than our current Pacific attire.
[SPEAKER_08]: so that you get, you get, you lift it off the ground so you get that off your ish feel and then you get the rugged tires so snow and of course overlanding yeah and the bumper is a little bit different isn't it?
[SPEAKER_08]: Yes so the bumper is, what we did is we were actually wrapped it with the vinyl so it kind of protects it from all the rocks hitting it and then the foglet is LP for foglet but we did a unique bezel that fits it in here so we designed a specific bezel just for that to fit in it
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I think it's an overall good look and also you've got some extra lights kind of up above.
[SPEAKER_08]: Excuse me, I think it's a top, correct?
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: I'm exhilarating it at the top.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: And then we have the awning, of course, to see it right there.
[SPEAKER_08]: But it's the look we went after the look, we wanted to be matte.
[SPEAKER_08]: So it's matte blue on the glue.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's also a wrap and then we've got the awesome badge.
[SPEAKER_08]: You see it on the body size?
[SPEAKER_08]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_11]: You know that the grizzly bench?
[SPEAKER_08]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_11]: You know it reminds me a little bit of a like a Hellcat badge kind of the same theme.
[SPEAKER_08]: The same idea.

[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: So because we're trying to toughen up the van so we went after a different animal.
[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, we thought this is a perfect fit.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yes, absolutely.
[SPEAKER_08]: I think the sliding doors, you have so much space, you can open it up, you can use it.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's a lot of space on the inside, you can now really use it in a different way.
[SPEAKER_08]: We kind of brought it here to test it, see what people think, because it's such a different take on overlanding than you.
[SPEAKER_11]: But it's not the only van here, it's kind of in
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, there's bigger vehicles like, you know, more gigantic ones.
[SPEAKER_11]: But it's more, you know, streamlined, you know, it's more.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's our dynamics or dynamics.
[SPEAKER_11]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_08]: And you got all the safety, because Christoph Pacifica is extremely safe vehicles.
