Speaker 1: Twelve of the NFL's finest quarterbacks have left the comfort of their stadiums and luxury suites for the adventure of a lifetime. These brid iron heroes are used to leading their teams on the field, but can they outplay, outlast, and outthrow each other in the ultimate survival challenge?

00:00:18
Speaker 2: You ain't everything you have with the gobine tied you man, we find a way to win thee No matter what.

00:00:24
Speaker 1: The stakes are high and the competition is fierce, only one can claim the title of the ultimate survivor. Who will rise to the top and who will be sacked?

00:00:33
Speaker 3: They wrote me off.

00:00:34
Speaker 4: I ain't right back though, that's the problem. I'm right back. Let's go.

00:00:37
Speaker 1: This is Quarterback Island.

00:00:42
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, we are back on island time. It is Quarterback Island for the first time during the twenty twenty five regular season, and I hate to see it, but we might be ready off Genosmith again. I am here in the Chris Wesleyan podcast studio, and I am joined by an esteemed group of Quarterback Island voters, Steve Weisch, Jordan Rodrieg and back from another island of Ireland, Colleen Wolf.

00:01:11
Speaker 2: Back from Dublin Ireland. I have a sweatshirt on. Yeah, it's been great.

00:01:15
Speaker 5: Yes for everyone listening on audio. The Trinity College sweatshirt.

00:01:21
Speaker 6: Yeah, they don't really wear college sweatshirts over there, but I wear college sweatshirts. And even though I were the glasses I did go there, I don't.

00:01:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, the campus is beautiful.

00:01:33
Speaker 5: I sort of put myself in the mind of many different Sally Rooney characters, you know, normal people, conversations with friends.

00:01:40
Speaker 3: It was beautiful. I brought it. I bought a similar sweashirt for my wife.

00:01:43
Speaker 2: Did you see the Book of Kels.

00:01:44
Speaker 5: I did see the Book of Kels. It all, it all happened. But that's not the island. We're okay, right, right, right right. We're talking about Quarterback Island. And there were some trades in the NFL today. We're going to get to those later. We're going to get to the TNF preview as well, a little late. But for anyone who's joining us mid stream, Jordan, why don't you explain what Quarterback Island is and how we got here.

00:02:09
Speaker 7: Quarterback Island is both a place and an idea. It is a place for the quarterbacks who most define the sport. Right now, there's lots of movement on Quarterback Island. Sometimes some illegal rule changes on Quarterback Island controversy overall, though, twelve quarterbacks right now. Rules changes later in the season, but right now, twelve quarterbacks have a place on Quarterback Island, and these are the quarterbacks who we decide as a voting group are defining the position right now.

00:02:40
Speaker 5: Yes, and every voter can decide in different ways. But whether it's best, whether it's defining however, however, it.

00:02:47
Speaker 8: Is pretty subjective.

00:02:48
Speaker 5: It's pretty subjective. We haven't allowed any injured quarterbacks to be on the island. Although Lamar Jackson's going to be an interesting conversation in just a little bit before we go.

00:03:00
Speaker 9: Yeah, but George saying, this is how this is being played now and an idea.

00:03:04
Speaker 4: I'm waiting for Jude Law to walk in. Yeah, every performer.

00:03:07
Speaker 2: I mean, I've been waiting for my entire life.

00:03:10
Speaker 3: Steve, that is absolutely amazing.

00:03:13
Speaker 5: So we did an episode before the season started, and we are gonna remind everyone who the twelve quarterbacks are on Quarterback Island. They were entering this season. So yes, we love it. If you watch us on YouTube, and if you do, you know, give us that like great starting lit subscribe and the group to start the season was Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes kind of the big four there, and then it was Jared Goff Jalen Hurts who was controversially left off the island at the end of the regular.

00:03:45
Speaker 3: Season last year and he stuck it to us.

00:03:48
Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels, Dak Prescott, Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert Brock Purdy and c. J. Stroud were the last two on the island.

00:04:00
Speaker 4: A good starting two.

00:04:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a great starting twelve. I think there's going to be some people that are coming off quickly. How will start this here? And the early part of the show is is the easiest part and no math. It's kind of just like who's definitely staying on you? You could go on and say something about them if you want, but I wrote down six players who I think are just definitely staying on that we don't even need to have a formal you know, vote by vote for each quarterback and if you guys disagree, then we could have the conversation and those six based on how they've played so far. Josh Allen and Dak Prescott to me, have played the position at a higher level than anyone. Right, Patrick Mahomes, he he essentially just lives on quarterback Island and he's playing fantastic. Baker Mayfield Yeah, yeah, very often been a controversial topic in this room.

00:04:49
Speaker 2: To you, he's no longer renting on the island. I think that he's by.

00:04:53
Speaker 3: He is just there.

00:04:54
Speaker 5: And then Justin Herbert and Jared Goff, they started the season on the island. I think they've played at a consistently high level, and ultimately I don't think there's much debate over those two guys either. I'll throw it to you, Colleen, does anyone in that group stand out to you that you just want to you want to talk about.

00:05:11
Speaker 3: Or that that you disagree with me?

00:05:14
Speaker 2: No?

00:05:14
Speaker 6: I think I think all all of these quarterbacks are firmly on the island right now. And I think the fact that Baker Mayfield was a discussion last year and a back and forth.

00:05:24
Speaker 2: You were the one right that wanted Baker.

00:05:26
Speaker 4: Oh I'm a big Baker guy.

00:05:27
Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, right, Okay, So I just look at the way he's playing right now, and my goodness, in that game against you have him and Sam Darnold. They're going back and forth. I mean, just that game as an example. He's just so good and he just makes everyone around him better. So I feel like he kind of started as like the idea of him people were just rubbed the wrong way after what happened in Cleveland and then what happened in Carolina, and then he kind of had that stigma to him.

00:05:57
Speaker 8: But now I think we're completely past it.

00:05:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, No, you don't think so good.

00:06:01
Speaker 3: I think so.

00:06:02
Speaker 5: But I think he's got some of some of that gunslinger to him as well, where he'll have games but it is working right now.

00:06:08
Speaker 7: Yeah, and even I mean, honestly, we saw a couple of games where it maybe wasn't working for him personally last season, but the team still plays through him like they still they take on his sort of on field persona that he has, and that to me is also the mark of defining quality of a quarterback.

00:06:28
Speaker 3: I agree. I think Baker.

00:06:31
Speaker 5: Maybe as much as any of these quarterbacks get extra in terms of the intangibles, in terms of the if he we're talking about defining the position right now. I mean last season, he did finish the season, it was only ten quarterbacks and he was one of them on the island this season, I mean, having four game when he drives to start this season, like he what do you think quarterback in twenty twenty five?

00:06:53
Speaker 3: Like he is right at the very top. Well, and here's the.

00:06:56
Speaker 9: Other part, right, there's always only two or three guys who are like, Okay, if they get the ball with the minute left, you got a shot.

00:07:01
Speaker 3: Right.

00:07:02
Speaker 4: It's usually like Patrick.

00:07:02
Speaker 2: Mahomes, Josh Allen.

00:07:04
Speaker 9: Josh Allen and the guy who plays quarterback in Pittsburghreg's favorite player. But you know he's a good clutch player. Baker's in that category. Now I want to drop in another name because you and I both talked about a quarterback who I think is on autopilot now, and that's Jared Goff. Okay, change coordinators, change position coaches, tweak a little thing. He is doing it, I mean, and they are so creative with some of the things you're doing these half back passes. Some of the creativity that you know, the flip to a mon Rod and they're doing this. It's it's so you know, when you think about all the changes he's gone through with the different ocs he's gone through from Jeff Fisher to everything to now again.

00:07:44
Speaker 4: He's got the game on autopilot.

00:07:45
Speaker 9: I salute Jared Goff and the way he is adjusted and now to me, he's one of the premier quarterbacks in.

00:07:52
Speaker 6: The He really is, because if you even just look at total EPA, he's top seven EPA per play, he's top seven and then pass number one.

00:08:01
Speaker 5: Weirdly, it's gone under the raider and Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk wrote about this today. Or elseide would have known that they're on pace for the second most points in NFL history. The Lions are easily the highest scoring team in the league.

00:08:13
Speaker 3: Right now.

00:08:14
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, first impressions matter so much that you just remember that Week one game. We've moved on, all right, So he is locked in. Six players are on the island. Congrats to to Josh Dak, Patrick Baker, Justin Herbert who has some faulty protection issues in front of him right now but has been great, and Jared Goff.

00:08:32
Speaker 3: Okay, of the twelve players that were.

00:08:35
Speaker 5: On the island, I actually I think it's maybe we could debate one of them, but I kind of think there's three players that are clearly off that injured guys too. We're knocking off one injured player, which is Joe Burrow. He's gone. Brock Purtys has not been on the field this year and enough and when he's been on the field, it's been a little iffy. And so that's two guys. And then as exciting as it was to watch CJ. Stroud spin it on Sunday against Baltimore, I don't know that he has any case versus some of the guys off the list. You disagree, Well, we'll.

00:09:16
Speaker 3: Get to that.

00:09:16
Speaker 5: Because to me, I thought I thought these three guys would just easily.

00:09:19
Speaker 3: We're booting them off the island.

00:09:21
Speaker 4: I think we better take a beat on.

00:09:23
Speaker 5: Onj Okay, so we will table, well table him, we will table him and the other guys on the island to discuss that I think are at least worth a discussion.

00:09:33
Speaker 6: I need a pen hold on a second, it does get confusing.

00:09:36
Speaker 5: We have allowed Colleen to he's got the headphones, inner ponytail. It's a beautiful high ponytail.

00:09:52
Speaker 7: I said, that's so much worse.

00:09:56
Speaker 2: All right, orders restored. I'm a professional.

00:09:58
Speaker 5: Let's go Okay, the the other guys on the island, who I think we could table and have a deeper conversation in a little bit.

00:10:04
Speaker 3: It's up to you.

00:10:05
Speaker 5: Guys would be lamar because of the injury Dalen Hurts, yep, Jayden Daniels missed a couple of games, hasn't been playing.

00:10:15
Speaker 3: I think it's at least worth talking about.

00:10:16
Speaker 4: We can talk about him.

00:10:17
Speaker 3: But and then CJ.

00:10:19
Speaker 5: Let's have the CJ thing now, because I want to open up some spots to start this thing. And he is one of my favorite quarterbacks ever.

00:10:29
Speaker 3: I have to just admit it.

00:10:31
Speaker 4: He just is.

00:10:32
Speaker 5: But he was piloting the worst offense in the league through three weeks, and even if it's not all his fault, I think when you start comparing him to the players that are on the island, even to Hurts and Jayden who we're talking about here, and then the list of players that we'll talk about later, and they're not surprised, as you know, Danny Dimes, Stafford Drake, May Jordan Love, Sam Darnold like that.

00:10:56
Speaker 3: These are something and I don't.

00:10:57
Speaker 5: Think he's been in the class of any of those guys this year, and so I think it's just time.

00:11:02
Speaker 9: For the I think the math could math him, but I do think he is worthy of discussion because I don't think.

00:11:07
Speaker 3: He discuss him. I don't think he's got a knock out all those other guys. Though.

00:11:11
Speaker 4: I don't think he's played poorly.

00:11:12
Speaker 9: I think he's had some garbage drops from his receivers. I think his offense was e quizical mess until the last couple of weeks.

00:11:23
Speaker 4: Sure, okay, so again were talking about the guy. He's played the position best.

00:11:28
Speaker 3: You know.

00:11:28
Speaker 4: Again, that's why I think the math can map him.

00:11:31
Speaker 9: I'm willing to stand down on TJ if we just think the other guys are playing better, which is a legit possibility.

00:11:37
Speaker 4: But I mean he's still playing his tail off.

00:11:42
Speaker 7: I have no doubt or I don't question you know, what he's putting into it, and I don't question that this is on the right track now moving forward. I mean Houston looked a total mess on offense to start the season.

00:11:55
Speaker 2: Some of that was the quarterback too.

00:11:56
Speaker 7: I mean it was mostly the offensive line, no run game, and no receivers. But there are a couple of things that popped in the preseason where it's like, yes, they are giving him more control at the line of scrimmage, they are giving him more autonomy to change things and to call protections and to do these types of things that he was really hamstrung by. Because he can do these things, we saw him do it at such a high level in college, and then it starts getting taken away from him. Okay, now you're trying to understand what all this looks like together, plus feeling out your new offensive coordinator and all of those things.

00:12:26
Speaker 2: That's going to take some time. I don't think he's on the island.

00:12:29
Speaker 7: Right now because I have four names here that I think are playing better than him that aren't currently on the three names that are currently not on the island. But I also think that this is a guy who we can almost be sure that he will play his way back on.

00:12:44
Speaker 2: But for now, I would probably take him hot.

00:12:46
Speaker 4: I could see the math math.

00:12:47
Speaker 5: It was an incredible performance too against the Ravens. Ultimately, we've only.

00:12:54
Speaker 6: Like, how much are we taking away from the playing the Ravens defense without almost.

00:13:00
Speaker 5: Throws were though that kind of analysis always bothers me a little bit because it's like he still was throwing into some really tight coverages.

00:13:08
Speaker 3: You go watch that game.

00:13:08
Speaker 5: It was a beautiful game, but yeah, it can help him build confidence. But I can't ignore the Bucks game. I can't ignore the Jaggars game.

00:13:15
Speaker 3: And I'm calling a vote.

00:13:17
Speaker 5: I don't care. We're going to call an early vote and not table. I vote no on c J.

00:13:22
Speaker 3: Stroud. No.

00:13:24
Speaker 2: No means he should not be on the isisland.

00:13:26
Speaker 3: Yes, and Steve is voting yes as a protest vote. It is a protest vote.

00:13:30
Speaker 7: I I just wanted to open that play though, Steve, because I know you know that the math will take him off.

00:13:36
Speaker 3: That's what I mean.

00:13:37
Speaker 4: I've got a long number, Okay, I don't want to hear.

00:13:42
Speaker 5: We've crossed three players off the list. It's Joe, c J and Brock will table, Hurts and Jayden. Because Lamar is such a unique case, I guess we could just bring it up now. What is your I don't know what to think about Lamar because in the past you had said, Jordan, we had a soft rule injured players can't really.

00:14:01
Speaker 2: It was a pretty hard rule beyond the island.

00:14:05
Speaker 1: Rule.

00:14:05
Speaker 5: In Lamar Jackson's case, we know he's returning relatively soon. He sounds unlikely to play this week. Then they have a then they have a buye the full expectation as he would be back after the bye, he has played three and a half games at an MVPSH level that he is Lamar Jackson, I do think different rules like if.

00:14:25
Speaker 2: Well, so here's the thing. Yeah, here's the thing though, but here's the point.

00:14:29
Speaker 7: Here's the thing because okay, well we decide that with the next quarterback Island with this next window is in three and a half games. That's almost our full sample size of what we're evaluating right now. And I think how many games has Jade and Daniels missed too?

00:14:42
Speaker 9: And we did Justin Herbert last year when when the rule is initially set, Justin Herbert was only oft for like three weeks.

00:14:47
Speaker 7: Yeah, and so for me, I am fine keeping Lamar on, but by actually the same reasoning, I don't know that Jade Daniels stays on because he's just missed more time.

00:14:56
Speaker 2: It's kind of an incomplete I.

00:14:57
Speaker 4: Say we tick Lamar off based on the rule you design last year.

00:15:02
Speaker 9: We take him off because last year, remember Justin Herbert, we didn't put him on at the beginning of the season and he only missed I think two weeks.

00:15:07
Speaker 7: He didn't he started he started out off because he was he didn't start the season correct because.

00:15:13
Speaker 9: He was wounded. He was like an ankle injury or whatever. And but he was on three weeks later. So I'm just saying, if.

00:15:17
Speaker 5: We're you, you know, and he didn't put together some electric performances already, he was well.

00:15:23
Speaker 2: I think the two.

00:15:24
Speaker 7: I think the two actually that we're discussing here because it's either or to me, not both well is Jayden and Lamar because they both you know, only one of them has played well enough to be on this island despite the injuries, and that's Lamar.

00:15:39
Speaker 5: And I think you think Jayden Daniels's performance.

00:15:43
Speaker 2: Not coupled with but what's in my mouth?

00:15:45
Speaker 7: Greg is a factor though, is combined, to Colleen's point, combined very heavily with the fact that he's missed more games than Lamar.

00:15:53
Speaker 2: It's a weighted grade here.

00:15:54
Speaker 7: And I and I just I think in the beginning of the season watching the Commanders looked at a little loose. Now I think this offense is going to be humming down the streets.

00:16:03
Speaker 5: I thought he played great against the Chargers in the second half year. The second half of that game was was kind of peaked, Yes, Daniels.

00:16:09
Speaker 7: But to finish the sentence that I was just saying at the beginning of this, at the beginning of the season, like I just thought their entire operation looked too loose and that that was everyone, including the quarterback. And then they started getting you know that rhythm back with Terry, and then Deebo got more involved and the run games started going off, the getting off the ground, and everything started clicking better. Now, all I'm saying is, if we are going to factor in the injury question, he has missed more games than Lamar.

00:16:36
Speaker 2: That's all I'm saying is like, I don't know that.

00:16:38
Speaker 5: Lamar is still out, so yeah, it is all tricky, yeah, to think about because Lamar and then he has the bye week for what for what.

00:16:44
Speaker 4: That your honor? You're one of you two honors.

00:16:47
Speaker 3: We'll table them for now.

00:16:48
Speaker 4: We'll table table them and then see how the math.

00:16:50
Speaker 5: So for now, Lamar, Jaden Daniels, and Hurt are tabled because I think we should talk about Hurts.

00:17:01
Speaker 3: Let's just go through quickly who's definitely.

00:17:03
Speaker 5: Off, so that's fine and see if you guys disagree. We have so far booted three people off the island total, and then we've tabled another three, so six people are locked in right now, we kind of have six open spots if you would consider Lamar and Hurts.

00:17:21
Speaker 2: Who was not on the island.

00:17:22
Speaker 3: Let's let's just go through.

00:17:23
Speaker 5: And see if you guys disagree, Just just to cover the quarterbacks of it all, Okay, for sure?

00:17:27
Speaker 3: Not yeah, for sure.

00:17:28
Speaker 5: Now in the NFC, these are the starting quarterbacks right now who would for sure not be on the island. Jackson Dart, Carson Wentz for the Vikings. Michael Pennix, you know, has had some moments, but certainly not elevated to where I think he's having a discussion. Bryce Young overall a little disappointing starts of the season. Spencer Rattler, you know, he's doing better than expected. And then when you talk about the math mathing, I don't think that Kyler or Caleb Williams really have a case.

00:18:01
Speaker 3: Okay, I thought maybe someone would know someone Caleb.

00:18:05
Speaker 5: Traditional numbers are pretty good, but I'm with you, guys, Okay, so they're.

00:18:09
Speaker 2: All factoring in numbers, tape, all of that.

00:18:12
Speaker 3: They're all off. In the AFC, the players I would say are definitely off.

00:18:17
Speaker 5: TUA with the rough start of the year, justin fields hasn't happened Dylan Gabriel just got that job. Cam Ward Gino has had three of the worst games of his career, although last.

00:18:30
Speaker 2: Week when I went with all that, Greg.

00:18:32
Speaker 5: I mean, I'm doing fine. The Raiders are in trouble, that's for sure. Trevor Lawrence is interesting because I kind of think he's playing worse this season than usual till Monday night.

00:18:45
Speaker 2: But even I thought he played bad Monday. In that game, it was a little up and up and down.

00:18:50
Speaker 7: Those two gorgeous throws back to back that he made, and then some of the run plays. I mean, you can count. This is the thing that is infuriating with Trevor Lawrence. You almost want him to play this like burserker type of football because that's the way that these big plays start. Yeah, you almost want to cut him loose, and like you then you also accept the fact that, like some real sloppy crap's gonna happen, and that's dumb mistakes, just mistakes that you you in your fifth year, you're not supposed to make and not seeing the line of scrimmage or running you know, out of bounds you're supposed to slide inbounds or these types of of you know, the time on the clock, the play clock running out and having to take penalties like these types of things, the fumble, you know, these types of things you're you're gonna get with him, and you still are getting all these years in.

00:19:35
Speaker 2: But also when you cut him loose.

00:19:37
Speaker 7: And give him and have he's confident and kind of angry, like then you get like these incredible dials in.

00:19:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, anger sort of centers him.

00:19:45
Speaker 7: Yeah, it just is like, like I said, it's like this Bursercuer mode that he vacillates between that and then like, oh God, what's going to happen.

00:19:52
Speaker 2: So we're just waiting for a breakout in year six. Maybe I think we can't.

00:19:57
Speaker 4: We can't. Let's not let's not laugh at all.

00:20:00
Speaker 9: Yes, we're saying Sam, Darnold and Baker may feel the guys like that at all.

00:20:05
Speaker 5: I wouldn't be shocked if because of the foundation that they're setting now and him getting used to that offense that at the end of the year he's a really serious conversation or he makes it onto that.

00:20:14
Speaker 3: I think right now, having a.

00:20:15
Speaker 4: Defense, it gives some short fields like some of these other quarterbacks.

00:20:18
Speaker 5: Right the advanced stats are are great to look at and they're not great for Trevor Lawrence, but like I think it's tough to even think about him as an option when like his yards for attempt is everything is actually way down than ever before. So Trevor Trevor is out all those players. I don't think you guys would disagree. And then I'll throw in the Bengals starting quarterback here too. Joe Flacco is the Bengals starting quarterback, well, apparently for this Sunday. For anyone that's just learning about this via Quarterback Island, let's have a quick Joe Flacco talk. He was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday.

00:20:53
Speaker 3: That's fun.

00:20:54
Speaker 5: The Browns get a fifth round pick, but it's not for a fifth round pick because they sent a six. All it was was a small move up on Day three of the draft. Essentially, I would say a salary dump picks up. He's barely making any money. The Cincinnati Bengals are betting on Joe Flacco to have a better chance to keep them afloat for when Joe Burrow possibly returns in December. Try to get to Joe Burrow at seven and seven or or even six and eight or something Steve, you look skeptical. Do you think Flacco can do this?

00:21:29
Speaker 9: First off, Jake Brown's gonna start this week, Joe. Do we know that Joe's not gonna have enough time to get it going, even though he did in Cleveland.

00:21:38
Speaker 4: These are these are like two totally.

00:21:41
Speaker 9: Unimaginative organizations right now. I mean, for real, I want whatever's in the jar that they're snacking.

00:21:48
Speaker 10: On, because some gummies. You're saying late night, okay whatever. I'm kind of I'm sitting here, like.

00:22:00
Speaker 9: Joe Flacco behind that offensive line and it was really quick passing game in Cincinnati.

00:22:06
Speaker 8: Well, he moves so fast.

00:22:07
Speaker 2: You know, he's still says.

00:22:09
Speaker 9: Bengals have these five second developing pass plays, right, So you need somebody who can move a little.

00:22:15
Speaker 4: Jamis can move a little, and he's gonna make it interesting. I don't. So you're gonna go with the dude.

00:22:21
Speaker 9: Joe Flacco, who you've seen for a couple of years in Indianapolis.

00:22:25
Speaker 4: You know, I thought maybe he can get something going to Cleveland. It's the same Joe.

00:22:28
Speaker 6: I mean, would you rather Joe Flacco be with the Bengals or Andy Dalton if we're talking about I mean, but there were so many, it just felt like other options and I'm with you, the famous one would have just made so much more sense with those receivers too, with those.

00:22:48
Speaker 9: Receivers, and it's kind of like, really what And then the Cleveland like, Oh, we're gonna we're gonna be slick here, We're gonna get rid of Joe so we can move up to shoot or so we can politically let him get a shorter on the depth chart.

00:22:59
Speaker 4: Wo, that was creative.

00:23:01
Speaker 9: So now if you're the other fifty, if you're the other fifty two for the Browns and you're like, we're rolling, we have what twelve more games left with love more and we're rolling with this?

00:23:13
Speaker 5: Well, just what I think Dylan Gabriel is an upgrade from Joe flacky iast on one game, which is not more sure.

00:23:19
Speaker 9: But I mean I'm like, I'm like fine, right, But if you're the Joel Botonios, you have to be talked out of retirement.

00:23:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, if your.

00:23:25
Speaker 9: Guys like to say, this is how we're going, this is where we're going through this ish.

00:23:29
Speaker 3: Again, Also, what are the vibes in that quarterback room?

00:23:32
Speaker 7: Yeah, because because there's no middle child anymore, Joe Flatko's not in there breaking up any of the like kind of awkward.

00:23:39
Speaker 2: I don't know if they I mean, it's I can't presive.

00:23:41
Speaker 3: There's been some statements.

00:23:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, that just there's no middle child anymore.

00:23:45
Speaker 5: Less than ideal Shandor Sanders is listed as the number two quarterback.

00:23:50
Speaker 3: Maybe they'll bring in at the point.

00:23:53
Speaker 5: It is really funny to me by the way that Bailey Zappy is also in that room exactly. He was kind of famous in New England for absolutely campaigning to get Mac Jones bench.

00:24:04
Speaker 3: They didn't get along.

00:24:05
Speaker 6: Like It's just like, man, I could see a scenario. I don't want this to have him, but I could see a scenario where they bring in another quarterback and then Shador is still not the backup they moved him back again.

00:24:19
Speaker 2: Just that would be I know, crazy, itaotic.

00:24:24
Speaker 4: I mean, right now, I'm kind of like, what do you you know?

00:24:26
Speaker 3: You know what?

00:24:26
Speaker 2: It made me think that since we're low, but holy cow, so.

00:24:31
Speaker 5: Jake Browning looked so overmatched in the first three quarters of that game, and just like he had lost so much confidence that I did start to think, and I'm sure Bengals fans were thinking this way is like is.

00:24:42
Speaker 3: This it for Zach Taylor?

00:24:43
Speaker 5: Like if it goes this way the rest of the year, where they pack it in and they just get blown out every week like they have the last few weeks, Like, is that the time that they think about doing it? So I think when you see a move like this, it might be a little bit of them thinking, we think Joe Flacco is our best chance to save our jobs by just putting it up there. Because one thing he made mistakes for the Browns this year and he was terrible under pressure.

00:25:08
Speaker 3: But he's not holding onto that ball. He's got to go throw it down the field.

00:25:12
Speaker 4: He can rip it.

00:25:13
Speaker 3: He's got to give Tea and Jamar and Yoshava's a chance.

00:25:15
Speaker 9: Well, here's the thing, how many more years is Zach Taylor having his contract?

00:25:18
Speaker 10: Because if he's got to extended, he's coaching too there.

00:25:22
Speaker 9: They do not fire coaches with time left on their deal. So he's good.

00:25:26
Speaker 5: I like the concept of not giving up on this season in the middle of Joe and t and Jamar and Trey hendrickson Prime. So I just don't necessarily like quarterback. They too correct.

00:25:42
Speaker 9: That's why I hate it, Like, go get somebody who's got some type of petigrew. I didn't even think about Andy Dalton, right, that would be a great.

00:25:49
Speaker 7: It makes too much sense, I feel like to say there. I like that they're not giving up on this season. I think is giving them a little too much credit, because yes, they have these players who are incredible in their prime, But what what else were you going to do but make a move?

00:26:01
Speaker 2: I mean the product. I said this earlier.

00:26:04
Speaker 7: It's not like Zach Taylor does not know what he's watching and does not see how depressing it is when you trot Jake Browning out there to get killed every day. Like It's not like he's not aware. So it's more like, well, what else were you going to do? It's not to me, It's not like some valiant effort fight to like well.

00:26:20
Speaker 5: Especially because keep our dream it's Jake Browning is the least of their problems. Like Joe Burrow sneaky wasn't that effective in the five six quarters he played. Joe Burrow is a superhero, and so that means that everything around Joe Burrow, whether it's the coaching, especially the offensive line. The running game is one of the worst in NFL history, and the defense has never gotten any better. So Browning's taking all this heat. But when he was in a better situation a couple of years ago and maybe got a little you know, just caught a hot streak, like it looked better. But now they're one of the worst teams in the NFL, and so are the Ravens. What world that we're living in, Let's put a pin in all that. Let's take a quick break actually now, and then let's get to the good stuff, which is nominating some players for the open spots.

00:27:01
Speaker 3: On quarterback Back on Quarterback Island.

00:27:14
Speaker 5: I want to live in a world where at the end of every season, you know how on Pro Football Reference they list all the postseason honors they have, like the All Pro Teams. They also list stuff like the PFF All Pro Teams or the top you know, they put top hundreds. We should have end of season Quarterback Island resident as one of the things like to.

00:27:37
Speaker 6: Like every players, we should send some type of award to the players, print it out.

00:27:43
Speaker 5: There has been there has been some talk of sending to the players. I don't know what a little piece of a palm tree or something like that.

00:27:51
Speaker 3: That would be beautiful sponsors. And so that's why like them.

00:27:55
Speaker 5: You know, some day Geno will be like, yeah, it was rough and in Las Vegas, but he shows his kids. Look at that end of season Resident twenty twenty four, this four foot quarterback.

00:28:06
Speaker 2: Allen in my backyard. I planted that kids back when I was made.

00:28:10
Speaker 9: I can't wait till I can't wait till Dylan Gabriel get to show it to his kids.

00:28:13
Speaker 5: So we basically got six spots available, like we tabled three. They had been cautiously maintained by Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Jade and Daniels. But we definitely have three spots totally available. There was one name that to me actually didn't fit on the list of guys that I think have any chance to be nominated or are definitely off. So I'm just gonna start by voting no, but just mentioning Bone he's.

00:28:38
Speaker 3: Not played well enough my guys this season.

00:28:40
Speaker 5: I just felt bad saying that, like you're you're on the definite nose.

00:28:45
Speaker 3: But he hasn't played well this year.

00:28:46
Speaker 5: That Eagles game was kind of a great way to end the game, but he was the problem for three quarters.

00:28:51
Speaker 10: Got the Jets over in England. Baby his way that will help. I think that boat's leaving the pier.

00:28:57
Speaker 5: Because he's in such a good situation. I think he he might have a case by the end of the year, but not happening right now.

00:29:03
Speaker 2: Why don't we oh Nicks just call his boat the boat?

00:29:05
Speaker 3: Oh wow?

00:29:09
Speaker 5: Like at is is under U you know, sorry, not capitalized. Let's go, Colleen, Why don't you throw out a player that you want to nominate for quarterback?

00:29:18
Speaker 3: Islands?

00:29:18
Speaker 6: Okay, I would love to see I think Sam Donald.

00:29:24
Speaker 2: On the island.

00:29:26
Speaker 6: Guys, I'm back on the Sam Donald. I've never left she never, Like I never left the bandwagon.

00:29:31
Speaker 2: I'm also back on the Colts bandwagon, by the way, I left that.

00:29:38
Speaker 3: Never.

00:29:38
Speaker 6: But Sam Donald has been playing so well, and I'm so happy for him because it's like he's he had that terrible ending in Minnesota after such a great season, and then he went to Seattle and now he's still continuing on that larger sample size that we saw from his time with Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings, and his numbers back it up too, So I think he absolutely deserves a spot.

00:30:04
Speaker 9: I mean, Jackson Smith and Jig Was that's a pro bowler right now and him and Sam have something to go on the way he distributing it to the tight ends.

00:30:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, the running game.

00:30:11
Speaker 3: Is it all Pro?

00:30:12
Speaker 5: Maybe and not that not that it really matters five games into the season, but I was like, jas N, Yeah, I think JSN would be my first team All Pro wide receiver.

00:30:20
Speaker 4: Crazy, how about to help my game?

00:30:22
Speaker 2: It's incredible.

00:30:23
Speaker 7: And what I really like about what the Seahawks are doing this year, and Sam is really thriving within this as well, is they're staying patient even if their run game is not necessarily as efficient, which for the first few weeks of the season it really was. But like Steve and I talked about before, you could see the theory behind it, and they would not quit using it. They wouldn't quit trying to stabilize and continuing to run those plays because they know that it helps stabilize the quarterback and it gets their play action passing game going. He is thriving in a heavier personal offense twelve personnel, two tight ends, sometimes twenty one using a full back, and it's just cool to see how I.

00:31:02
Speaker 9: Just love how the hair says up on the back of your neck when you talk about using a full bit.

00:31:07
Speaker 2: I know, I listened Jude Law and a full back.

00:31:12
Speaker 3: That's my wishless and you've never seen robbieating them together. Robbie oots.

00:31:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, Darnold would have been one of the guys if he was on the island that I would say, we don't even need to discuss I think he was easily the first one. No, I like discussing because he he's earned it. I think he's playing at a significantly higher level so far than even that than he was in Minnesota. I think he's being asked to do more. In a way, when they do drop back, they do limit him on some level, like compared he will have the fewest pass attempts of anyone that makes it onto quarterback islands. So in a way that is helping to protect him. But he he's just throwing dime.

00:31:50
Speaker 4: He doesn't he doesn't ye, he doesn't need to be protected.

00:31:52
Speaker 9: Now, we saw it last year when he have to it forty five times in Minnesota, he's fine.

00:31:56
Speaker 7: And then the throws he has made, like when he gets his spots and he's and he has as you know, the the autonomy to kind of go through his reads and and he has hit some throws.

00:32:04
Speaker 5: Manner pressure, yeah too, Like it's a lot of more creativity out of him this year.

00:32:09
Speaker 7: Yeah, and it's and I like that he doesn't he's not pressed to have to make that play every single time. Like That's what I love about this offense in Seattle is how much balance it has. And it's also like they've built like just like a human wall in front of him. Whether or not they're always going to be great in pass pro. They've been shaky a little bit with their run blocking come along the last couple of weeks, like like you mentioned Steve, but like it's it's massive tight ends like I said, it's it's the twenty one personnel when they get that going. It's their running backs are huge and pretty been pretty solid in past pro as well.

00:32:39
Speaker 2: Like it's just it's it's.

00:32:41
Speaker 7: All about settling him and allowing him to pick his spots where he is maximizing his comfort level.

00:32:48
Speaker 2: And I really like that because he thrives in that. He's already got better guys.

00:32:51
Speaker 4: Kubiak bloodline, I mean yes or no.

00:32:54
Speaker 3: Around the room, we have four on yes easy, okay, yes, for what it's worth, I decided to.

00:33:00
Speaker 5: Look at just like write it down for uh, spots of like different advanced stats and plus the PFF grade, and Donald is in the top four of everything.

00:33:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, like first, second.

00:33:11
Speaker 5: In QB GBR, first in PFF first, and like the EPA completion percentage over expected fourth in Football Outsiders is even crazy, No, I did. I just like to see it because compared to every other quarterback in the league, he actually had the most like the most consistent across the board in every way you can measure it.

00:33:28
Speaker 3: All right, Steve, why don't you.

00:33:29
Speaker 9: Okay, I'm not going for the necessarily slam dunk. Okay, I'm going for the alley. I want to see if you guys oop it.

00:33:34
Speaker 5: So Donald isigned, by the way, the seventh player on and we have two totally open.

00:33:40
Speaker 9: My guy bo Nicks is not on. Yeah, I'm going for my other young fave, Drake May.

00:33:49
Speaker 2: Now Greg's next.

00:33:50
Speaker 7: The hair on his next Oh yeah, that's I mean, well.

00:33:55
Speaker 3: I'm just surprised he brought out so early.

00:33:57
Speaker 9: Oh no, let's go there. I mean we did the last time. I just think the way he is leading, he's playing. We know Josh McDaniels, and you're going to try to overdo it on him. Josh McDaniel's overdoes it on everybody per game. He's handling everything. You're seeing receivers now, Stefan Diggs is getting healthier, he's playing at a higher level. Their running game is working. But he has got that Baker Mayfield stuff to him. And I've talked about it since I saw him get his butt kicked over in England. He's got something to him and you're seeing it get better and better. And I'm not necessarily saying he needs to boot anybody off the island, but if we've got an open spot, Drake Mayson, he needs to me he needs to be on this island.

00:34:47
Speaker 5: That game on Sunday night certainly helps because I think he needed a defining sort of moment where everyone could see what he does. And you said it really well that there's the out of structure stuff and the Josh Allen type stuff. Well, you know, defenders are hanging off them, but there's a lot of instructor stuff. In fact, I would say this offense and that speaks to his ability to handle things has been changing more on a week to be week basis in terms of how they attack opponents do as much as any team in the league and it's amazing that he can handle.

00:35:17
Speaker 7: That he's playing well enough to overcome their turnovers when fumbling the ball, and he's he's playing well enough.

00:35:23
Speaker 5: Though he's been part of that you were going to make a case against him a few too many negative plays and a few too many sacks. So that's where if we're comparing him to some other great quarterbacks, which.

00:35:33
Speaker 3: Which we will be, that that could work against him.

00:35:35
Speaker 5: If you're curious on the on the metric fourteenth and QBR eleventh and PFF fourth and EPA per play plus completion and seventh in adjusted yards over replacement, So like right in the mix of where you would think he would make it. I mean my instinct is yes, certainly, but it's going to be tricky because we're going to be comparing him to to other players that are coming up.

00:35:57
Speaker 6: I mean, he he had he was electric in that game in Buffalo, especially in that environment with the white out and everything, and it's, you know, a division rival. Just he looked so poised, so confident, just so chill about everything that was going on. But also the way that he played in the game against Pittsburgh, like there were there's moments if you.

00:36:21
Speaker 8: Look back where it's.

00:36:23
Speaker 6: I don't know if he's on yet, or if he's on his way, or maybe he's arrived because of that last game in Buffalo.

00:36:30
Speaker 8: Maybe that cemented his spots.

00:36:33
Speaker 9: I'm seeing the crescendo and I stuck up for sure, and I think he is. When we're looking at how the quarterback position is being to played being played that is being decisive right away, whether you're passing it or running it right that's something you're seeing with Bonick's starting to do your starting. You saw Trevor Lawrence start to do it.

00:36:50
Speaker 7: Now.

00:36:50
Speaker 4: Those guys aren't going to be on.

00:36:51
Speaker 9: But you look at the way the position is being played now because defenses are better, they've caught up right, You're not seeing a ton of necessarily pressures. You're see a lot of foreman in front, stack and five man not necessarily on first down, and quarterbacks are figuring it out. And he seems like he's one of these guys who's figuring it out.

00:37:08
Speaker 5: And he's forcing the opponents to play more zone because they're so afraid of his legs, which which opens it up. I was talking to Ali Connolly last week about that off air, just that so much of the defensive game plan against Drake May is a living fear of how he's going to run downhill.

00:37:27
Speaker 7: Yeah, he's I remember back, you know that he's getting these comps already, and it is certainly coming off of the game that he just had with Josh Allen on the other sideline. I would not necessarily won to one comp them. But remember back a year many years ago at this point when we saw everything with Josh Allen, and we also but we also saw some of the erratic decisions, and we saw some of the mistakes and the plays. I think Drake May's playing more disciplined.

00:37:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree that guy was.

00:37:51
Speaker 5: I would not have expected him to be like among the league leaders in completion percentage. Like there's the occasional one where he'll he'll take the sack and he'll just freeze a little JH mcgahm.

00:38:00
Speaker 3: But yeah, he wants them to take a sect. Do we want to vote on him?

00:38:04
Speaker 5: The trick is we're going to be like, would we take him over Jaden Daniels, for instance, two second year players? I would just would we take him over Stafford and Daniel Dimes?

00:38:13
Speaker 3: Like all these things are gonna have We're gonna have to think about that.

00:38:16
Speaker 7: I will say, like, I'm also and this might just be me personally, but I'd love to hear from you guys on this. Like I'm weighing in Jade and Daniels missing games.

00:38:24
Speaker 2: That's the thing.

00:38:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's fair.

00:38:26
Speaker 7: That's why I would vote specifically, That's what it would vote May over him, because I'm weighing in.

00:38:30
Speaker 3: Right, let's vote.

00:38:31
Speaker 6: Then I'm also projecting forward and I'm looking at the Patriots schedule to see how.

00:38:35
Speaker 3: He wis not fair?

00:38:37
Speaker 6: But the Saints coming up, the Titans, the Browns, the Falcons, the Jets.

00:38:44
Speaker 3: Like schedule helps loud Colleen.

00:38:49
Speaker 2: Yes, I'm gonna put them all on the island. This feels crazy. Yes, I will also put him on the island.

00:38:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm the one who freaking campaign for.

00:38:56
Speaker 3: Look at that. I didn't even have to vote. There's no bias.

00:39:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, Drake May Wow, good hosting Megan.

00:39:03
Speaker 5: Who knew he would be achieving the highest honor possible.

00:39:08
Speaker 3: Hope we don't hear so early.

00:39:10
Speaker 4: We'll be fine, all right.

00:39:11
Speaker 5: Drake May is on. Both him and Sam Darnald have joined the island. Darnald on for a second time, was off and on throughout last year, and he's back in twenty twenty five. Sure is, we've got eight players totally locked in.

00:39:25
Speaker 3: Good Jordan, why don't you nominate this.

00:39:26
Speaker 7: Well, we're about to have nine with nine because Matthew freaking Stafford is getting my nutation.

00:39:32
Speaker 2: I know you're all shocked, You're all so surprised.

00:39:34
Speaker 7: Oh, this chick is talking about Matthew Stafford again. Won't she ever shut up about Matthew Stafford. No, I will never ever quit that guy because if you go and watch some of the throws that he has made. Yes, he's had some bad quarters, he's had some bad halves, but overall, through the first four weeks this season, he is playing at among one of the best quarterbacks in the league right now, he is up in the top five and EPA per drop back right now, just purely looking at statistics, but if you look at the arm angles are still there.

00:40:07
Speaker 2: The no looks.

00:40:08
Speaker 7: I mean that game against Indianapolis, watching his micd up and some of the angles that they were able to show showcase more clearly of the throws that he was making than going back and watching the all twenty two of the precision that he was able to place some of those passes with and Puka Nakua is on track for a record breaking season not just because he is one of the best, if not the best, receiver in the NFL right now, but also because Number nine is getting him the football at any type of plane bending, brain breaking throw that you want this guy to make. Oh, and then he's feeling it because he will talk smack to you in your face right afterward.

00:40:47
Speaker 2: Don't effing look at me. Don't effing look at me.

00:40:49
Speaker 7: After he hits a no look touchdown pass against the Indianapolis Colts.

00:40:53
Speaker 2: I mean, he is playing outstanding football.

00:40:56
Speaker 7: I feel like this will be unanimous, but I just had to have my spiel.

00:40:59
Speaker 9: Yeah, the NFL leader passing yards. He makes calling a game so much fun for showing me you think about it?

00:41:05
Speaker 7: If yeah, so, maybe hey, don't take the ball out of his hands on oh myke go.

00:41:10
Speaker 2: Get what are we doing? Anyway?

00:41:13
Speaker 3: I did.

00:41:14
Speaker 9: I didn't love the call, but I am kind of on one a guy like if you can't get a yard when you need, I know, yeah you don't.

00:41:20
Speaker 4: Also one of those.

00:41:20
Speaker 3: Guys, he's just like the center of the end.

00:41:23
Speaker 5: He's one of the center pieces of the NFL right now, He's like just been involved in so many great moments and games this season that I think it's beyond beyond the numbers, which are good, but like it's even better than that.

00:41:34
Speaker 6: Yeah, And I'm also just looking at who could possibly go on still, who's like hanging out there, who we've tabled, and so if it's Stafford up here on the top, we haven't.

00:41:44
Speaker 2: Have we decided on Lamar, We haven't reallyd.

00:41:45
Speaker 5: Lamar, Hurts and Dayde and Daniels have been tabled, and I would put Stafford over all of them.

00:41:51
Speaker 3: So that's why it makes it an easy number nine.

00:41:56
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes for nine, Yes.

00:41:58
Speaker 3: Yes for nine, the number one FF quarterback.

00:42:00
Speaker 7: I now you don't like PFF, but I think I don't mind when they put Stafford in number one.

00:42:04
Speaker 5: Yes, he's great. He's great across the board. In the advance that's except for like adjusted EPA for play where he's fifteenth, I'm curious, like what goes into that. But everything else he's electric and he's just as obvious I think. Right now, so we have nine quarterbacks on the island. Okay, we have three players that we've tabled. So now look we Eric would think about it like the island's kind of full right now, and if we add anyone, we have to take someone off. All Eric Roberts cares about is that we don't lose track. I've been living here for a year and a half. Now I know how to do with the island.

00:42:45
Speaker 2: Wait a second, can we just check in with you? How are we doing?

00:42:48
Speaker 5: I will say this has been the smoothest, But now that I'm saying it, this has been the smoothest go around.

00:42:52
Speaker 2: I'm following.

00:42:53
Speaker 3: Okay, yes, you do a great, good job. Okay, Okay.

00:42:57
Speaker 5: The trick is if if we do put someone else new on the island, that means we are accepting that someone else has to come off or you know.

00:43:05
Speaker 9: I think some of the injury discussions we were having, yes, absolutely factor.

00:43:08
Speaker 2: Okay, there's a major name.

00:43:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, there's to me, there's one more name. There's a couple more names to discuss, but I think there's one more name that I will voice who is it strongly?

00:43:20
Speaker 3: And it's Daniel Jones. Yeah, come on, okay, you go. Then let's go with a boy.

00:43:27
Speaker 2: Okay.

00:43:28
Speaker 6: It's not like the flashiest throws or anything like that, but they're efficient and he's like he is Sam Donald of this year, even though Sam Donald is still Sam Donald of this year, but he.

00:43:40
Speaker 5: Came through the same train there up in Sam Donald's graduated, though he's backing it up now.

00:43:44
Speaker 3: Sam Donald is kind.

00:43:45
Speaker 8: Of like Faker we let him off to fly.

00:43:48
Speaker 5: He's kind of like Gino in year two or three of Seattle, like he's he's a made man.

00:43:52
Speaker 3: Daniel Jones.

00:43:53
Speaker 6: We did not expect no Daniel Jones, and I couldn't believe it when I was looking up all of the metrics this morning, and he Daniel Jones because he's been so efficient and he's not really making boneheaded mistakes either. He's in the top of so many of these categories. He's playing so well. And the fact that they're what four and one the Colts right now?

00:44:16
Speaker 4: Yeah?

00:44:16
Speaker 2: Is that right? Yeah?

00:44:17
Speaker 3: And he passes the eye test.

00:44:18
Speaker 2: Don't you think it just is the Stafford that's their own I know, I know.

00:44:22
Speaker 3: But they lost because like Jonathan Taylor dropped a ball and.

00:44:28
Speaker 2: I've been holding it in for weeks. You just have that one.

00:44:34
Speaker 3: He's taking Stafford.

00:44:37
Speaker 4: Off last year, so he is it's the boomerang.

00:44:41
Speaker 7: To Colleen's point, like he's he's taking care of the football for the most part. He's not making a lot of negative decisions. But he's also the one thing I worry about him sustaining through the course of the season is the hits that he takes.

00:44:52
Speaker 2: He takes a part hits.

00:44:53
Speaker 7: He's obviously using his legs a little bit, but he allows Shane Steichen to come alive the.

00:44:59
Speaker 2: Way that But Shane Steiking, you could just you could feel it.

00:45:02
Speaker 7: He's like he was like crawling out of his own skin last year, just really wanting to devise a game plan for somebody who's going to not just make the throws that he tells him.

00:45:11
Speaker 2: To make, but also make some tough throws too.

00:45:14
Speaker 9: I'm glad you said, I think because I've been saying that Shane Stiking can coach.

00:45:16
Speaker 4: For whatever people want to say.

00:45:18
Speaker 9: He won seven games at Gardner Minshew who almost got them into the playoffs a couple of years ago. He can coach. Now he's got a quarterback. And boy are the Colts making a lot of people look bad.

00:45:26
Speaker 4: Right.

00:45:27
Speaker 9: They got rid of what two, if not three starting offensive linemen. Offensive lines playing pretty good. They made a change in DC. Oh boy, Louis hen Roumo. He was really the problem of Naddy that defense is playing well. But look at Jonathan Taylor. Now you got teams having to adjust how they play the Colts defensively, and.

00:45:42
Speaker 4: Boy that Tyler Warren pick a tight ends looking.

00:45:44
Speaker 2: Really smartrect Yeah he's Fans are like.

00:45:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, he's been incredible, And the numbers do back up. He is first in ESPN's QBR, he is first in FDN's defensive yards above replacement. He is ninth in terms of PFF and sixth. Then like like either way, it's all in the top ten and a couple. He's right there at the top and more than anything, Like when you think about the first five weeks of the twenty twenty five season, obviously surprises are going to stand out more than like what you expected to me.

00:46:17
Speaker 3: The fact that we're talking.

00:46:18
Speaker 5: About Daniel Jones at all, like for him, like that's such a huge surprise. Yes on Danny Dives, Yes, Indiana Jones.

00:46:24
Speaker 3: He doesn't like it. He's no fun, he doesn't like it. He's on. He's what a world that we live in.

00:46:31
Speaker 2: He's gonna have so much fun on that Danny Dimes.

00:46:34
Speaker 4: He's the party guy, is.

00:46:37
Speaker 2: A little bit back, lets your hair down a little bit.

00:46:42
Speaker 5: Okay, there's only one other player that hasn't been tabled that I think is worthy of at least discussing, and that's Jordan Love.

00:46:52
Speaker 4: That's a great point.

00:46:53
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I'm sitting here like that's it. I think we've gotten to the end of the list.

00:46:57
Speaker 8: So those are the same exactly.

00:46:59
Speaker 5: So we have ten. We have ten people on the island for sure. We've tabled Lamar, Hurts, Jaden, and Love. That's four players. So two of those four are going to get on the island and two will not be. So I think keep that in mind when we're going through these four players.

00:47:18
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I'm I'm with Jordan.

00:47:20
Speaker 9: I think if Lamar didn't play last week, he's not going to play this week. Then they have a bye. That's three weeks he shelved. And and just using the same rules we applied to Justin Herbert at the start of last year.

00:47:30
Speaker 2: And that we would apply to qualify and they apply to.

00:47:32
Speaker 4: Jade, they don't qualify because that I mean.

00:47:36
Speaker 8: We need to kick someone.

00:47:39
Speaker 5: And Lamar is different a because he played better than because he played so well that matter, because he's Lamar Jackson. He was the first team All Pro last year and he was playing fantastic this year. So I do think it's a little different. I think it's just sliding scales in terms of rules. But I don't know what to do about that, so I I have him.

00:48:00
Speaker 4: He was insane.

00:48:01
Speaker 9: I mean i've I've I covered some of their games and he was really all they had going off.

00:48:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, just feel weird picking them off.

00:48:07
Speaker 7: Jordan Love to me too, I would rather put Jordan Love on the island than keep Jaden Daniels on within these.

00:48:13
Speaker 2: Parameters because Jordan I had no problem with it.

00:48:16
Speaker 7: Jordan Love's EPA for drop pack drop back is right up there with Jared Goff and Josh Allen.

00:48:21
Speaker 2: And he's playing.

00:48:22
Speaker 7: Really, really well, and especially I mean they people people forget. They've banged up with injuries too, They've missing some offensive linemen at a certain point. They were also dealing with the receiver receivers kind of shuffling around, and I think, and I think he's playing really well. You're gonna get some weird games with him, but I do think he's playing I.

00:48:39
Speaker 5: Agree, But when it comes to the intangible of like defining the position and has he really put his stamp on the season. He is someone I just struggle with because you're right, the numbers back you up. Sixth in PFF as well, second and EPA plus completion percentage over expected, eleventh in QBR, eleventh in the in the defensive yards of just so a little over there.

00:49:01
Speaker 2: In top twelve.

00:49:02
Speaker 5: But so much of that is off that Cowboys game, which was a defining game of this season, and he was fantastic, but you know, opponent in that game, it did.

00:49:10
Speaker 2: Feel like defense is playing better.

00:49:11
Speaker 5: Now, Yeah, it did feel like he got carried a little bit the first couple of weeks. And so when I think of like defining the position this year, it's I would have a hard time with. I think him versus Hurts is a very interesting let's talk about.

00:49:28
Speaker 6: It hurts, all right, yeah, because that's don't tell anyone this, but I think we might have to kick him off.

00:49:33
Speaker 8: Really, I don't know.

00:49:35
Speaker 6: I just when I look at the performances and even the numbers, and even just the dysfunction that is happening right now in Philadelphia with that offense, they have no identity. Their identity should be the running game, and Saquon Barkley and then everything else builds off of that. But because with the new offensive coordinator, it just feels like it's so erratic. Every week you're having something different, and you're having receivers that are upset, you're having just it's not I feel like the quarterback in Jalen Hurts, he's not the one that, even though their record is so good right now, I just don't think that he is playing.

00:50:11
Speaker 8: As well as he could.

00:50:13
Speaker 6: I just other quarterbacks right now are playing better than him.

00:50:17
Speaker 2: I just don't think he's the problem.

00:50:19
Speaker 7: I think he's far from the problem that I think their offensive line. The fact that I mean he can't call his he's not calling his own plays here either.

00:50:27
Speaker 8: But if we're just talking about the results.

00:50:30
Speaker 3: The run game, but is he helping to call his own plays? That's something like you're just trying to guess what the problem is here.

00:50:38
Speaker 5: And I think part of the problem might be, like they've made it the Jalen Hurts offense because we have heard this about play callers in Philadelphia before, of like, how come they're not doing this?

00:50:47
Speaker 3: How come they're not doing that?

00:50:48
Speaker 5: Well, you know what, this offense reminds me a lot of like almost every Eagles offense like they played to Jalen Hurts his strengths which might be a little more limited than other people. And I think he's been in power as he should be to have a strong voice in like what they do. And maybe I don't know what you've been hearing, Steve, because I'm not hearing anything. I'm basing this up report. No, I'm not hearing anything like is that what aj Brown and DeVante Smith are upset about.

00:51:11
Speaker 4: You're kind of walking me down the Russell Wilson path.

00:51:13
Speaker 9: Right when early in career, when Russell was doing things, they're playing for championships. He didn't necessarily have that autonomy that he got paid and he started doing some stuff and as Russ's show, let Russ cook, and he saw what happened. I don't think that's what's gonna happen here. And we are not giving enough credit to what defenses are doing to offenses. This is where now the offenses have to adjust. For the past five years, defenses are trying to have to figure out, Okay, how do we stop Saquon because they've got aj Brown over here and they've got Davonte Smith. Well, you know what let's just stop Saquon and make everybody else adjust to us. Let's stop Derrick Henry and make the Ravens adjust to us. Let's figure it out. Defenses are becoming so much more athletic, Jordan. We see it all the time. You're seeing odd even odd. It doesn't matter the down anymore, to be four and five on first down. Now we're seeing three, we're seeing six back. Yeah, defenses are doing things now analytically, tendencies position a field to put all kind of question bubbles above these quarterbacks and offensive coordinators. I think that's more of the issue, and I think some of these quarterbacks are going to heat. I don't think Jalen is necessarily the issue. But I'm wondering when Greg was talking about. What Greg was intimating is he doesn't have that Drake may ish to him, so he doesn't have the dude like, hey, you shut up, you shut up. Let's go in a ball game and let's make that happen. Well, that could be happening behind closed doors.

00:52:36
Speaker 8: We don't know what I would say.

00:52:37
Speaker 6: Here's what I would do with Hurts, because Hurts right now is just someone who is making me nervous about being on the island and the way that he is playing and the team in general, the entire offense, the way that it's working. I looking at who is on the island and who has come off the island. I would not vote him off the island because I would put if I would put in Daniel Jones and Georgian Love, and I.

00:53:00
Speaker 8: Would take off Lamar Jackson and.

00:53:03
Speaker 6: Jayden Daniels because of the injury rule, and then leave Hurts in there.

00:53:08
Speaker 8: And that's it. There's no open there's no more open to the.

00:53:11
Speaker 4: Bait is Lamar bait here.

00:53:13
Speaker 7: Yeah.

00:53:13
Speaker 5: The Hurts thing is so weird too, because I kind of think he's playing a little better this year. He's actually made really good. I think he's doing what he should do. He's coming off his best game, which I feel like got lost because they lost, But like he had a number of big time throws in that game, but they lost, So we react so much to the win or the lost. He struggled, kicked right, We like I thought he struggled a lot more in the Rams game and in the Bucks game.

00:53:38
Speaker 3: It's it's so funny because I do think if.

00:53:40
Speaker 7: He gets off second half in the Bucks game, the first half.

00:53:43
Speaker 2: He was perfect, right, that's okay.

00:53:44
Speaker 4: The but they're so were the best defense.

00:53:46
Speaker 9: Yeah, they got a bunch laid on him by Seattle, but the Bucks one of the best.

00:53:49
Speaker 4: I just Denver arguably the best defense.

00:53:52
Speaker 3: I just mean I've seen a little growth.

00:53:53
Speaker 5: I actually think he's playing better than he had did in the regular season last year. So I really struggle. But the numbers are with you. Of all these players, his numbers are the most middling, anywhere from tenth to seventeenth in all these sort of advanced or pff noum.

00:54:09
Speaker 4: Let me let me let me phrase it like this.

00:54:12
Speaker 9: If Joe Donut all of a sudden pops on quarterback Island and he sees Jalen hurts On and Lamar off, whatch you're going to think about our credibility?

00:54:21
Speaker 3: Well, that's that's where I wanted to go next.

00:54:23
Speaker 2: That's the thing.

00:54:23
Speaker 3: Okay, let's all stand on.

00:54:25
Speaker 5: The table for one quarterback that's remaining, and who you feel the strongest of these four quarterbacks.

00:54:30
Speaker 3: So there's two open spots.

00:54:31
Speaker 4: And this is regardless of the injury rule.

00:54:33
Speaker 3: And this doesn't mean they're on.

00:54:34
Speaker 5: But I've just wanted to see what everyone's saying, no, the injury rules, whatever is in your mind of how you want to handle.

00:54:40
Speaker 3: That is involved.

00:54:42
Speaker 2: May I interject?

00:54:43
Speaker 4: Sure?

00:54:44
Speaker 7: I feel like if I feel like, if we're going to apply it, we apply it. If we don't, we don't, And I'm fine not applying it because it's almost too nebulous to apply to one and not the other.

00:54:56
Speaker 8: If we have an astroism.

00:54:57
Speaker 5: So that would say like, either you're saying either Lamar and Jayden are on together or they're off together.

00:55:03
Speaker 2: Well, I'm saying I think there.

00:55:04
Speaker 4: You know, I think Jayden's off?

00:55:07
Speaker 3: All right?

00:55:07
Speaker 5: Should we vote on Jaden Daniels. But I do think there's some agreement there.

00:55:11
Speaker 2: Because I think there's a couple guys playing better than him right now.

00:55:15
Speaker 5: It's close, but I agree with you. I'm voting now on Jaden Daniels. Okay, Jaden Daniels is off. He's going to make him look bad for this one.

00:55:23
Speaker 2: I love it. I want him to. I want him to.

00:55:25
Speaker 3: Look like we want to be the motivation, which means we have Lamar, we have on the list, Jordan.

00:55:32
Speaker 4: Love mm hmm, those two right?

00:55:38
Speaker 3: And who else? Now? I finally it finally happened. It finally happened.

00:55:45
Speaker 2: Like Colleens. Colleen's got it, like Jalen j that's it.

00:55:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, so we have one spot for Jalen hurts Lamar or two spots for Jalen hurts Lamar and Jordan Love.

00:55:56
Speaker 3: That that was That was it. I feel I feel the strongest. I'm just curious.

00:55:59
Speaker 5: This is not binding, but I just want to get a feel of how the room is feeling, because I don't know, like, of those three players, who do you want on the most steve Between Jalen hurts Lamar and Jordan it would be your number.

00:56:12
Speaker 9: One if and I am applying the injury rule because we decided last year that Justin Herbert was not going to start the season there because of the ankle injury. Even though we know Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Lamar can get back on right, I would say Jordan Love because he's healthy, he's on the field, and he's playing well.

00:56:28
Speaker 4: I am adhering to.

00:56:29
Speaker 6: The Jordan rule, but I think that when we put this out there for the people to see, there should be some type of asterisk that they are on injury island.

00:56:36
Speaker 2: Right now?

00:56:37
Speaker 3: What about you who would be your top one.

00:56:39
Speaker 7: I recognize my own hypocrisy here, but it's Lamar for me.

00:56:42
Speaker 3: If I'm looking at it, I just feel like Lamar breaks the rules. I don't care well if.

00:56:47
Speaker 4: You're going to soften it. If you're going to soften it's absolutely no, no.

00:56:50
Speaker 2: It is a solid rule.

00:56:51
Speaker 5: All right, let's vote. Let's vote. Let's vote on Lamar. I vote yes on Lamar.

00:56:56
Speaker 6: Jack.

00:56:56
Speaker 3: I just can't do it. I can't take about the island. But I know he's return.

00:57:00
Speaker 2: Everyone came after me for this. I mean, obviously he's a great quarterback and he's no, no, no, you're you are I.

00:57:05
Speaker 7: By the way, not enough space taking Colleen was like one man show manning this game. When we all lost it there for a second, I got at it. Yeah, hy the way, By the way, I want to I want to make sure that's clear.

00:57:18
Speaker 3: You went to Trinity College.

00:57:19
Speaker 7: So I also think that it's really funny that Greg asked me for my opinion, then waited until I almost nodded the affirmative, then jumped right back in because he knew someone was going to agree with him.

00:57:29
Speaker 3: So what's going on that I feel like Jordan is tired of doing the.

00:57:33
Speaker 9: Show Aber how she started. It is not just the reality, it's the idea. It's the idea she's she's hanging over.

00:57:41
Speaker 3: He should we vote on Jordan Love versus Jalen Hurts. That's what it is. Oh wow, down to we have one spot left.

00:57:50
Speaker 2: That's a good that's a good.

00:57:51
Speaker 3: One quarterback island.

00:57:52
Speaker 5: I gotta say, I don't have a what are we who were super strong feeling? Where are you leaning?

00:57:57
Speaker 9: Well?

00:57:57
Speaker 8: I'm going to keep Hurts all on the island over Love.

00:58:02
Speaker 3: That is where I'm leaning to.

00:58:03
Speaker 6: But it's tough because the numbers suggest that he should not be on the island.

00:58:07
Speaker 5: Maybe maybe I'm reacting to last year where we didn't have Hurts on for so long and he's not playing amazing. But I do think to make QB island, you sort of you have to almost put no doubt to it, like you have to do it Danny Dimes or Drake Mate.

00:58:23
Speaker 3: You gotta like just bawling out so much like.

00:58:29
Speaker 5: The tie goes to the guy on the island, and to me, this is about a time I.

00:58:33
Speaker 2: Don't know I love it.

00:58:34
Speaker 7: I don't know I love it. Rule the tie goes to the person on the island already.

00:58:39
Speaker 5: That's also it's Jalen Hurts, like he is defining the position in a way, whether you like it or not.

00:58:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, we got it, you know the run game.

00:58:47
Speaker 3: So we're happy about you.

00:58:48
Speaker 5: So we haven't We haven't heard from Jordan and Steve in terms of this to be he was in on love. So it's really up to Jordan whether we're at a deadlock Hurts versus Love, or whether Jalen hurts stay on the eye.

00:59:01
Speaker 7: Well, either way, it's Jalen Hurts because the tie goes to the guy on the island, okay.

00:59:04
Speaker 2: Or or or let me just throw this out there.

00:59:06
Speaker 8: What if it is Jalen Hurts or wait, I'm damn it.

00:59:11
Speaker 6: I lost she was almost I had had it.

00:59:15
Speaker 2: I got a pack, I got a pack, I got it back.

00:59:16
Speaker 8: What if it is Jordan Love versus Drake.

00:59:20
Speaker 7: May, I'd put May probably Okay, all right, Okay, Now that's a good thing.

00:59:26
Speaker 5: That's a good thing to bring up to not assume that love is behind all those guys. Yeah, because we put May on, we put Dimes.

00:59:34
Speaker 8: On, uh huh, we put Donald on on.

00:59:36
Speaker 3: Stafford May would be the last guy.

00:59:39
Speaker 5: He would be my eleventh guy, right, now, so you were right to say that, Yeah, suggest that name. I would have him behind Dimes and certainly Stafford and Darnald uh so far, but the last spot, Jordan Love just make us.

00:59:52
Speaker 3: Feel something more? Do more?

00:59:54
Speaker 5: I have a feeling that he's going to be there. But should we should we call it?

00:59:59
Speaker 11: So?

00:59:59
Speaker 4: Who are we voting on?

01:00:00
Speaker 5: I think let's vote on Jalen Hurts. I vote yes on Jalen Hurts. The stays, I'll vote yes. Oh, I'm resigned.

01:00:06
Speaker 8: Yes, I feel like this was begrudgingly. I don't know.

01:00:11
Speaker 4: How can we reopen the government help negotiations?

01:00:17
Speaker 5: Discuss that amongst yourselves while we take a quick break. We we have reached the end of Quarterback Island, the second episode of this season, and let's go over.

01:00:27
Speaker 2: Were sweating a little bit.

01:00:28
Speaker 6: Loved this episode, you followed, I loved it.

01:00:32
Speaker 4: I mean, we need customs in TSA to get the Quarterback Island.

01:00:35
Speaker 5: Josh Allen, you're still on the island. Dak Prescott Rollers, you're in the MVP mix. You're definitely on the island. Baker Mayfield, You're one of the first people we knew were on the island. Patrick Mahomes, I see you. You're making football fun again. Herbo GoF we can count on you.

01:00:51
Speaker 3: We absolutely love you. Sam Darnold was the biggest no brainer of all the guys to jump on the island. That's that's growth, not just for him but for me. Matthew Stafford easy one.

01:01:06
Speaker 5: Danny Dimes somehow was not a heavy conversation. Drake may is on the island, and yes, even though you're hurt, Lamar Jackson, you are there and you can talk with Jalen Hurts about what it's like to play in Super Bowl.

01:01:20
Speaker 3: Can I make one multiple?

01:01:21
Speaker 9: I make one optrovision. Yes, there's a quarterback. We did not mention one time all shown.

01:01:26
Speaker 3: No, this is my nightmare.

01:01:30
Speaker 7: He was supposed to be my losm he was.

01:01:34
Speaker 5: I did not put him down on the ones who are definitely off, but he was definitely off.

01:01:38
Speaker 2: I looked at his name and put a question mark.

01:01:40
Speaker 9: Next time, I've got a hollow bubble.

01:01:44
Speaker 2: We left him in the dark.

01:01:45
Speaker 3: He's coming off an ice game, the double one. Yeah, off an ice game. I mean there were three games before the team they were three games before that.

01:01:53
Speaker 2: Just throw it up the DK.

01:01:54
Speaker 6: Maybe they're just like getting going now, you know, we're going ah, let's dregs talk a little T and F and a couple of trades quickly after the break.

01:02:07
Speaker 5: Back on NFL Daily, the Eagles and the Giants have a lot to live up to in terms of taking a primetime spot making it your own. That Bill's Patriots game was a great oh yeah, fiftime game.

01:02:22
Speaker 3: Oh in the end.

01:02:23
Speaker 4: And last week starts to night game, the Rams Niners.

01:02:25
Speaker 5: Game this seaon one of the best games of the season, I think, and then the Jags.

01:02:30
Speaker 4: And the Chiefs break game.

01:02:33
Speaker 5: Just days Jordan after we spent an entire segment, an entire show naming the Jaguars kind of the unofficial team of NFL Daily, but calling them the most messy fun team in the NFL. They showed up and they made it happen like that game was so fun.

01:02:47
Speaker 3: I don't know if Giants Eagles is going to be that fun.

01:02:50
Speaker 7: Yeah. I never roll out weird stuff happening, but this, yeah, I don't. It's just it's weird watching the Eagles right now. We mentioned this earlier in the show. There banged up along their offensive line. Saquon Barkley, he's going for two hundred yeah, well reportedly, yes, it's gonna play, but feeling some knee soreness earlier this week.

01:03:09
Speaker 2: It's a short week, obviously, that's trick like job.

01:03:12
Speaker 4: I love it is exciting. Hey Giants, I got a sore knee.

01:03:16
Speaker 9: Yeah, when I pounce you for two hundred, he feels so sore.

01:03:20
Speaker 6: And their run defense is so bad, Yeah, the Giants. So you have Saquon going in there, playing them for the second time, and yeah, this is like a perfect matchup for him.

01:03:31
Speaker 5: But their running game is so bad. It's so crazy to think, Oh, the slump busters they might be. It's the interior of their offensive line. Tackles are great, they're fine. Lane Johnson looked back to being hisself, but Cam Jurgen's admit he's playing banged up. He's not playing well. Landon Dickerson has a million injuries. He might not play incause he has the ankle injury. And then Steen and you just think about the identity of what the Eagles have been over the last ten years really, and it's like this offensive line and it's their pass rush and they're one of the They're not in the top twenty in the league right now in terms of quarterback hits or pressures from a four man pass rush one in the trenches, and that's the.

01:04:09
Speaker 3: Whole Eagles thing.

01:04:10
Speaker 5: So there is something about like all the negative attention on the Eagles kind of makes sense to me because I think they're searching a little bit for who they are.

01:04:19
Speaker 9: Well, I mean, look, we saw the Chiefs go through it, right, It's like whoever is on top? Okay, what are the flaws? We saw the Pages go through it for years? What are their flaws? Oh, they're starting two and two or two and three and then they go ahead and march it on. I think the Eagles again, they're nicked up, but they're going to be just fine. And it's Thursday night though, so you can't count the Giants up. You know, everyone thought that the Niners were.

01:04:39
Speaker 2: Gonna get the EA spot legitimate flaws, yeah.

01:04:42
Speaker 9: And everyone thought like the Niners are gonna get ten spot last week the other injuries coming here to LA and they came in here and they showed up.

01:04:47
Speaker 4: So you just don't know what's gonna happen.

01:04:49
Speaker 6: I expect the Eagles pass rush to I mean, I feel I feel like Jackson Dart is just going to be under pressure all night long, especially because he doesn't have Malik Neighbors or you know, that's that's a rough one.

01:05:01
Speaker 5: And Jermaine A Luminor has been out of practice this week. Granted it's Tuesday, it's tough to note. He's quietly had one of the best years of any impending free agent contract. He's playing really well right tackle like he is. Oh, he's pretty high on less because there's.

01:05:15
Speaker 9: Never time I think Devin Lloyd there's number one on that.

01:05:18
Speaker 3: That's a high one option.

01:05:20
Speaker 5: If he doesn't play, then suddenly, yeah, that could wake up the Eagles pass or sure, maybe they'll keep blitzing more. You know, they're having to come out of their comfort zone a little bit.

01:05:29
Speaker 7: Yeah, Vic Fangio calling still not like in exorbitant amount of blitzeres, but more than we're used to seeing from him, especially in the first half halves of games when their four man front is not getting home. But yes, I think you do that. But you also have to be aware of Jackson Dart on the move. And this is where I think quin Jon Mitchell and Cooper Degen come in so handy as like such an incredible tandem. You cannot get anything into the flat against Cooper dejen when he is playing in the slot. That's just that's basically a no run, no passing zone at this point. And who is Jackson dart aside from his legs where he's Yes, he's running up some of the middle creases, but he's also been trying to hit the perimeter a little bit, so those flats on the left and right sides, okay, But so okay, can't do that because Cooper Jean's there and Queyon Mitchell manning down the other side and locking things down so well. And then he's also hitting the tight end a lot. Theo Johnson. We predicted with Malik neighbors out he would kind of become a little bit more of a security blanket, and he very much has been. And so, okay, where are you trying to hit Theo Johnson in Cooper dejean territory?

01:06:33
Speaker 9: Well, that sounds like a Zach Bond game too, Zach cover the tight end and yeah it's by so you know, and knowing how Vic loves his outside linebackers would be created with Zach Bond could be a factor in this game.

01:06:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, let's listen to Brian Dable talking this week. I just love the way he ended this little clip a little bit of a stinky Davis.

01:06:51
Speaker 11: Yeah, you watch all the games and you watch him when he's out there, get open, big, strong, fast as good hands, can run any route you want to run. I'm sure they could throw the ball as many times they want, doesn't get it, or do some and AJ doesn't get there's one ball. They're all really good player Smitty. I mean, I've been around Smitty. I think he's an exceptional receiver too. So I think what I'm sure whatever they want to do or think they need to do, that's.

01:07:18
Speaker 1: What they'll do.

01:07:20
Speaker 11: You have to watch the tape as Open a Lot.

01:07:27
Speaker 3: Your reaction, Colleen, Oh, you know what, I actually like Dave all Moore for that though.

01:07:33
Speaker 2: That is insane.

01:07:35
Speaker 4: I love it.

01:07:35
Speaker 3: You've got problems.

01:07:37
Speaker 2: He's trying to sew a little.

01:07:39
Speaker 8: I like how like that's just like Petty a little bit.

01:07:42
Speaker 5: When your team isn't great, let's go to the dark arts of let's mess them up a little more.

01:07:47
Speaker 3: As Open a Lot, fantastic.

01:07:51
Speaker 9: I tell you what, I was too distracted because I know what it's the it's the cancer awareness month that he has on the giants. Think but I need three d glasses to watch that thing.

01:08:01
Speaker 3: Yes, another invitation to check out that the YouTube. Just so, Yeah, the.

01:08:05
Speaker 5: Briand nables absolutely and look, there will be open he will.

01:08:08
Speaker 7: Get open against there if they protect there for what you wish for, because the Giants secondary is completely outmatched and out manned by this group of receivers. They would outmatch now man most secondaries in the league. Should they decide to throw the ball down the field.

01:08:23
Speaker 5: They got they got to protect, you know, again against obdil Carter who continues to be on fire and so to block up those But honestly they kind of did it pretty well against the Broncos, who have maybe the best for me in pass rush in the league. I don't think pass protection was the problem in that game. And so yeah, I think we could see some A J.

01:08:41
Speaker 6: Brown down there metric by the way, the measures receivers or pass catchers who were open.

01:08:47
Speaker 5: Yes, but it's not reliable because of really, I mean no offense next sense that people if there is separation score from ESPN, there's how open you are, But it really depends a lot on like what your role is in the offense, where you are and schemes.

01:09:02
Speaker 3: So it's tough.

01:09:03
Speaker 8: We're not there yet.

01:09:04
Speaker 3: I don't think we're there yet.

01:09:05
Speaker 5: I am curious to see how you know our guy Jackson Dart looks in this game. There was there's a lot of hope balls, that's what I call him in the game in New Orleans where it was just like too much. I don't know what's gonna happen. So I'm just gonna hope and I'm just gonna throw it up there.

01:09:20
Speaker 9: And oh gee, Brandon Staley plays the same defense as who Vic Fangia.

01:09:26
Speaker 5: Because they they had to beat and that works maybe if you hear if you have t Higgins, and it's not going to work with these giants receivers like hope balls don't really work to these receivers.

01:09:37
Speaker 7: Yeah, and then another I guess security blanket, although like a very angry and violent one emerging for Jackson Darts Cam Skataboo. So someone said on social media that he runs like the Kool Aid man, like firsting through the door, which now I can't. That's perfect and see that, so he's playing. Both of these guys are are playing without regard for their own lives.

01:10:00
Speaker 2: Essentially, I love it.

01:10:01
Speaker 7: Jackson Dart and Camp scatabo, which is what the Giants I guess, you know, they need it right, and that's part of the game, of course. But Jackson Dart specifically has taken too many hits already and camp scataboo. I don't know how sustainable his particular style of play is.

01:10:14
Speaker 5: He's taken too many hits, which is weird to say about a running back.

01:10:16
Speaker 7: Extras like looking for his extra hits, which yeah.

01:10:21
Speaker 4: I don't expose your numbers, and he exposes his numbers.

01:10:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So I just something to keep an eye on him in the past.

01:10:27
Speaker 3: Sevens a lot, But I do like a championship team to respond.

01:10:32
Speaker 5: After we got Jalen on the island, Yeah, Jalen is one. I gotta stick up for us. Okay, that's Thursday Night Football. Just quickly as we were taping, we had a very surprising trade come down. A da Feoa, the first round pick of the Ravens four years ago, is going to the Los Angeles Chargers. Steve, what was your first reaction when you saw it? Well, my first reaction is fascinating.

01:10:56
Speaker 3: Aloe Gilman is going.

01:10:59
Speaker 9: But this as an addendum to it. Earlier in the day, the Ravens signed CJ. Gardner Johnson, second safety who didn't play last week for the Ravens Kyle Hamilton. This is telling me that maybe something's broom with Kyle Hamilton injury wise. If they go back and they get two better in safety, is a younger one in an older one one's gonna add a little spice to the defense, you know, CJ. Gardner Johnson, who did not play well or fit in in Houston. Yeah, but you don't go to the Ravens kicking that noise.

01:11:24
Speaker 2: How many weeks is he there?

01:11:26
Speaker 9: No?

01:11:26
Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, and that Bill Gardner Johnson.

01:11:29
Speaker 2: No, No, it's just funny.

01:11:30
Speaker 7: We were keeping tabs on it because it's like he goes to these different stops and it gets shorter and shorter every single right.

01:11:36
Speaker 3: He has been how old? I am sure?

01:11:38
Speaker 5: When I saw that he signed for their practice I thought, Man, what have the last couple of weeks been like for CJ. Gardner Johnson And the fact that he's having to sign of the practice squad. I feel like he's going to have learned and he's a good player. Oh yeah, I'm gonna say, all right, there weeks left, he'll be there through this then I'm going to give him one more year, thirty weeks left.

01:11:56
Speaker 3: I think he gets a solid year.

01:11:58
Speaker 8: And at any point and then it'll kind of expire.

01:12:02
Speaker 4: I mean he could.

01:12:03
Speaker 9: But look last year, when the Ravens defense took a turn, they adjusted their safeties right, they sat Mark Williams are brought in our Darius Washington who's hurt, pulled the Achilles before the season, and their defense got better. They adjusted Cayle Hamilton. Maybe they think they can, you know, reset in some way here. They've got bigger issues because when I watched the Ravens, to me, it's not schematics. I was watching them get blocked all up and down the field and guys not get off blocks. DB's in position to make plays and not making plays. So I think maybe adjust like this is always a good player.

01:12:36
Speaker 7: So Frotherly love too because it's the Harbaughs. And then that front office comes from out of the Ravens.

01:12:43
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they both know that they're trading players they're not completely happy with, you know, always at the end of his contract, he's going to be a free agent this year. He had ten sacks a year ago. But even in that season, I think he's viewed as an inconsistent player. He can get washed out a little bit in terms of the running game and in general, Like I've been a very up and down throughout his career. He doesn't have any sec like, hasn't had a lot of pressure this year. And to give up a first round pick pass rusher at that's that's a pretty strong statement.

01:13:15
Speaker 4: That, like contract year two, it might be gap clearing stuff. Knowing the Ravens got clear and the Chargers early.

01:13:20
Speaker 2: When the earth they're going to move, they move, Yeah, and.

01:13:22
Speaker 5: The Chargers have like no pass rush right now? Whatsoever? They also got I.

01:13:26
Speaker 4: Mean it's Tully and who else you know.

01:13:28
Speaker 5: That's a fifth round pick in the deal. So Oway goes for a fifth for Gilman and a seventh, So it's a it's a trade back essentially, And that's saying that Away has more value in the trade, but just kind of fascinating.

01:13:45
Speaker 3: It almost feels like at first I was like, are the Ravens giving up on this season?

01:13:48
Speaker 9: But no, the Gilman jesse Mentor, I mean again, they were on the similar schemes so.

01:13:53
Speaker 4: Fit right in.

01:13:54
Speaker 7: Yeah, and he needs jesse Mentor needs a player who has the potential that Away has and in order to maximize what this defense actually can be and rush the way he wants to rush, then his coverages can deploy the way he wants to deploy them. We haven't seen the same version of this Chargers defensive late.

01:14:10
Speaker 3: No things change fast in the NFL. If you had told me that you know the.

01:14:15
Speaker 8: Ravens are, it's a wild how much a change.

01:14:18
Speaker 5: One in four trading a pass rusher off the worst defense in the league.

01:14:23
Speaker 4: See I mean the Browns trading Joe flackot.

01:14:28
Speaker 2: He's got to get to Pittsburgh and then he will leave.

01:14:33
Speaker 5: Okay, So we did Quarterback Island a little later than probably we would have because because I was overseas. Thank you for your patients and that extra time I think helped to get Drake Mayon.

01:14:43
Speaker 4: So I'm happy.

01:14:44
Speaker 5: Congratulations to everyone who made it to Quarterback Island. We will do another Quarterback Island episode in about four weeks. I cannot wait. One of my favorite days of the season.

01:14:57
Speaker 3: We will be back on Wednesday. We're back to the normal.

01:15:01
Speaker 5: Preview shows, double barreled action from the Chris Westling podcast studio.

01:15:06
Speaker 3: Maybe we'll have some funky trades.

01:15:10
Speaker 5: Tuesday's really good day for trades in the NFL Quarterback Island. It's always island time here in the Chris Westley Podcasting
