It was a great I mean I went to the Oaks, which was which was nice, watched the Derby on TV. I like being at the Derby. But I think the Derby is such a good television broadcast that you actually can really see it more. I mean, I actually think it's more enjoyable in some ways on television because they do such a good job with you get to know everybody's stories and all that. 00:03:11 Speaker 6: It makes it that But the whole broadcast is so good because they can get to those behind the scenes stories. 00:03:16 Speaker 5: You get to know everybody people. 00:03:18 Speaker 6: The horses and the trainers, everybody. 00:03:20 Speaker 2: And then you get that you know, you get some mix of clothes, and you get some mix of celebrities, and then everybody's got a sad story, which is nice and all of that. 00:03:30 Speaker 5: I mean, I just think they do such a good job with it. 00:03:33 Speaker 2: They really do. It's it's actually a perfect Like if you were to create in a lab, what is the perfect television event? I think you would create the Derby, Shannon, think about it. The actual what the race itself really short so everyone can follow it. Two minutes two minutes, that's all you gotta give us, right the lead up. 00:03:55 Speaker 5: There's stuff for men, there's stuff for women. 00:03:58 Speaker 2: There's stuff for people who like sports, stuff with people who like human interest stories. 00:04:03 Speaker 5: There's drama, there are siblings, you know. 00:04:07 Speaker 2: I mean, I just think san whatever it is you would like in a television broadcast, I'm not sure the Derby. 00:04:12 Speaker 5: It looks great visually, it's like perfect. 00:04:14 Speaker 3: Yeah, the build up for it, I think is really the biggest thing for a lot of people. Of course, derby parties and you have all the other races before the Derby itself. 00:04:22 Speaker 4: But yes, it's a. 00:04:23 Speaker 2: Whole great yes, and if you're a sports person, you got all the races leading up to it that you can get into. So let's go over a few things about the about the thing. I'll tell you about my Oaks experience a bit, but let's talk about the derby. First of all, you get out to the Derby, it's time to start, and the big I didn't realize there was a horse. It was like four times fatter than all the horses, big white, by the same, I'm big white. Because that you that you could have Shannon a big fat horse in the race. 00:04:49 Speaker 5: There was a big fat horse. 00:04:50 Speaker 4: About great white or big big white or different horse, I don't. 00:04:52 Speaker 2: Know, great white. Whatever the horse was, it flipped great white, yes, yes, and there you would think it would be the fattest horse. It wouldn't flip over like a web wall. But but it flips over, knocks the guy down. He was he he was a French guy. He was very upset. You could tell him. Was like I flew all the way over here, Shanning from France and then my horse flips over. 00:05:12 Speaker 3: Imagine you spend all this money and all this training to get this horse there, and it gets right there to the gate and it. 00:05:17 Speaker 2: Won't right at the gate, and then it's out. And when you scratch that close to the race, you still have to pay. Yeah, too bad. So whatever he had, whatever they had to pay to get in, I think that would be miserable. 00:05:28 Speaker 3: You right at the gate jockey could have gotten a huge payoff to win that during. 00:05:32 Speaker 2: No, and all he did was get a big fat horse to fall on him right Scaryah. The horse fell over back, which was scar completely fine. So it was fine, all right. 00:05:40 Speaker 5: So the race starts. 00:05:41 Speaker 2: Obviously I had further ado and as they came for home, it looked like it was winning. Yeah, and you're like, okay, well I'm gonna win, and then it doesn't. Great tempo comes for golden, Golden tempo. 00:05:55 Speaker 4: We're on fire with these names. 00:05:57 Speaker 2: I know all these names are good. Golden tempo comes from behind. It was awesome. You know the horse that came in third was seventy to one. Yeah, completely flipped around. Then you get the fact that you realize, okay, first female trainer, right, I mean there you go, history history, what a story. It's history, and the videos of her jumping up and down very special. That that's great again back to how it's perfect television. Huh. 00:06:23 Speaker 5: You don't even have to care about anything. 00:06:25 Speaker 2: Sorry, you don't have to care about anything to just go, this is awesome. 00:06:30 Speaker 5: I'm watching history here, right. 00:06:33 Speaker 6: You don't have to be a horse racing fan. You don't have to know anything about horse racing to appreciate some of those moments. And to see her jumping up and down like that like a little girl at Christmas time was very very special. 00:06:43 Speaker 5: It wasn't just history, Shannon, and it was her. 00:06:45 Speaker 2: Street, her story right like it was. I'm just showing I'm being a feminist here. 00:06:58 Speaker 5: It was so it was this awesome moment. 00:07:01 Speaker 7: Uh. 00:07:01 Speaker 6: And then the brothers, yes, the brothers right, the second embraced the cross the fence, they. 00:07:07 Speaker 5: Cross the finish line and then they hold hands. 00:07:09 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:07:10 Speaker 2: For how how hard is that on a horse? Those horses are galloping shin and then they're holding hands. Yeah. Yeah, that's up. Pretty amazing. It was pretty amazing. 00:07:19 Speaker 6: You couldn't help but pull your heartstrings for those two stories right there, the two brothers and the female trainer was out. 00:07:25 Speaker 2: That's what makes thee could get these moments perfect television. Everybody say likes the first woman, and then two brothers, and he starts crying and everyone you know, when something good happen to Derby, everybody's always crying, right like the trainers thinking of her mentor who got her to do it. 00:07:42 Speaker 5: She cries. The Jose Ortiz is thinking of his grandfather who taught him to race horses. He just died, he cries. 00:07:50 Speaker 2: So you get all that, and it's so awesome, and then this huge payday if if people got it, didn't any of you get that horse? I mean I didn't know. I had it in some of my try but not on top. I never put it on first, so I put it on like second and third. But I wouldn't have had the seventy to one horse anyway, So I think, which is not destined to be. 00:08:08 Speaker 6: Like you said, you don't have to even know anything about horse racing. But when they had that overhead view of the of the trip that that horse took to get the line from last to first, unbelievable. On the outside, yeah. 00:08:19 Speaker 3: Took the longest route, but that horse had a rocket strap to it. 00:08:22 Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know it was fine, I don't know what the distance traveled, you know they do those. 00:08:28 Speaker 5: I'd love to see what the distance travel for that horse was. 00:08:30 Speaker 6: Yes, and he went way on the outside and it just out ran everybody down the stretch. I didn't think there was any way he was ever going to get there, and he just kept building speed the fastest the long of the race went. 00:08:38 Speaker 2: So, so you have that, and then they go to the to the winner's circle and there's there's our governor. Did you see his. 00:08:47 Speaker 5: Shoes, Shannon the Ars No, I did not see. Now, he did have a cool pair of shoes on him. 00:08:53 Speaker 2: Well, not everybody here listening would like this, but you can get over it because I liked it. They were like Nike sneakers and they're they were like blue. Shit, you'd liked it, yeah, and they were blue. And they said on the back heel of each of them, dim gov. Oh nice, nice, dim govm gov. 00:09:13 Speaker 5: It is dorky. 00:09:14 Speaker 2: It is very dorky, but it's kind of like, you know, if you're a dorky governor, that's what you do. 00:09:20 Speaker 5: Yeah, dim gum? 00:09:21 Speaker 4: What did he say? 00:09:22 Speaker 3: Something like, I don't know much about horse racing, but I know how to win my races. 00:09:26 Speaker 5: Did he say that, Yes, Okay, I was gonna get to. 00:09:29 Speaker 2: That, all right, So let me just say I'm gonna give my political advice to Andy. Okay, the whole world is watching this thing. The highest ratings in the history of the derby. Yes, it was twenty five million people watch the race. 00:09:46 Speaker 5: Just so people understand. 00:09:47 Speaker 2: The only sporting events that have gotten twenty five million people the super Bowl, NFC Championship, the AFC Championship, and that's it. 00:09:57 Speaker 6: Only just NFL. 00:09:58 Speaker 2: That's it. 00:09:58 Speaker 5: That's it. 00:09:59 Speaker 2: And like the at night of the Olympics, that's it. So you literally, Shannon, if you're any basher, you're never gonna get a bigger crowd. Yeah. Maybe in the debates if he runs for praise, but that's it. Yeah, here's what I would have said to him, if I worked for it, I'd have whispered in his ear. 00:10:18 Speaker 5: All right, man, this is history. 00:10:21 Speaker 2: First female trainer, twin. 00:10:27 Speaker 5: Rise to the moment. 00:10:29 Speaker 2: Talk about how you're happy to be a part you know what I mean, I'm happy to be a part of history this moment. 00:10:35 Speaker 5: You know, you're that what's he do? He gets up there and goes, we are from. 00:10:41 Speaker 2: Kentucky, and we have the highest job numbers and the history of. 00:10:45 Speaker 5: I'm like, Shannon, what we want? You're breeting me stats. I'm already bored. And then he has to pull out a sheet of paper to get the name. 00:10:55 Speaker 2: I don't know, man. I was like, this is your moment. Come on, you're democratic Tucky. There's like four of us here. 00:11:01 Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, just be happy to be there. 00:11:04 Speaker 5: Just but like, but you know what I mean, like that, don't give me numbers. 00:11:08 Speaker 6: So appreciate the moment. We don't need a political speech at that. 00:11:11 Speaker 2: I mean, he told he said, we have the average new job is thirty dollars an hour. 00:11:16 Speaker 5: Like, what are you talking about? 00:11:18 Speaker 4: What kind of job is that? 00:11:20 Speaker 2: Not? That not the time? Andy, Yeah, we love you, but not the time. 00:11:23 Speaker 5: That was not so I felt. 00:11:25 Speaker 2: I felt like he didn't he didn't shade it rise to that moment like I needed him to. 00:11:29 Speaker 3: No, you know, I thought maybe with all these people watching, it would be the time that he would announced that he's running for president. 00:11:34 Speaker 5: Well that would have been worse. 00:11:36 Speaker 2: Like I was like, this moment to announce to everyone I'm running. 00:11:39 Speaker 5: For that would be if you're going to be a poor time, you're going to. 00:11:42 Speaker 3: Do what you did, though, I mean, everybody's gonna be watching it, They're gonna see it. 00:11:46 Speaker 2: I didn't think that was I didn't think that was the best, the best handling of it. So so I enjoyed anything else stick out to you from the Derby. 00:11:54 Speaker 6: I I, like I said, I love the whole afternoon of all the stories and the pomp and circumstances, just a beauty, full event and for two minutes, the entire sports world is on our state and we delivered. We delivered a special moment that we're all going to remember for that time. 00:12:08 Speaker 2: Record ratings for the Derby four times highest ratings for the Oaks. 00:12:13 Speaker 5: So it's staying at night. 00:12:14 Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no doubt. Did you stay for the whole So I stayed for the whole thing. Here's what I would say about the Oaks being at night. Visually, I went back and watched on TV, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful sun Like visually, it could not have looked better. It was awesome in person. It's kind of a disappointing experience really because a lot of people left a lot of lot a lot of people left before the Roaks. So I think, like you know, people have dinner plans. Yeah, they've got the party. The party. 00:12:45 Speaker 4: You didn't leave your. 00:12:46 Speaker 2: Well, I stayed. I was like, look if I want to see the first one at night? Yeah, and I enjoyed it, so a lot of there was a but I would say twenty five percent of the crowd left really so because of that, it just didn't have that buzz that usually get a buzz in the crowd the ten minutes before the Oaks and the ten minutes before the derby, and it just wasn't quite the same. 00:13:10 Speaker 5: I mean it was there, but a lot of the crowd left, so that that's the only part. 00:13:15 Speaker 2: Now. That was also kind of cold, yes, when the sun went down, So maybe if it wasn't cold, people would have stayed. As soon as the sun went down, it got cold, so maybe that would change if it was. 00:13:25 Speaker 6: That's a shame because it did look awesome on the TV broadcast at night, and they could have did a little great job showing the Beauty com beauty shots. Mad made Louisville Churchill Down look like a magnificent place. 00:13:34 Speaker 2: But they're not gonna change it now. Shame ran it worked, That's what it's gonna. 00:13:38 Speaker 4: Be for themselves. I mean you quadruple your viewership. That's not going anywhere. 00:13:42 Speaker 2: And the derby probably won't leave. I mean I used to keep pucking. Remember that used to be at five thirty. Yes, now it was like I think it was at seven this time. Like it just keeps getting later and later and later. 00:13:53 Speaker 6: And then after the intine it happened with the horse that eve started even later than that. 00:13:55 Speaker 2: Oh, that's true. That's part of why it probably started later, is that horse. Because I added, like ten minutes. 00:14:00 Speaker 4: They get all the horses out and put them back in. 00:14:02 Speaker 6: Yeah, those horse thopors that were loaded there to pull them back out and walk them around a little bit, just settle them down. 00:14:07 Speaker 5: Well, I enjoyed it. 00:14:09 Speaker 2: It was a It was a good, great weekend for Louisville and for the state. 00:14:15 Speaker 6: Any good behind the scenes stories with yeah, I'll talk. 00:14:17 Speaker 2: About one that that that happened. I will say, though, you know, well, let me save this frat for the break. I want to talk about running into Kentucky fans because I ran into a ton of the month for huh. I want to talk about that. By the way, you Mario, you and Billy looked good on Saturday. 00:14:36 Speaker 6: They did, didn't they you all you guys looked good. 00:14:38 Speaker 5: I mean you looked better than Billy. 00:14:40 Speaker 2: But Billy for for for for Bill like well, I mean you know how to like you dress up. I don't like going out with you when you're dressed up because you dressed too good. But Billy looked good to you guys looked good. 00:14:49 Speaker 5: It was it was not. 00:14:50 Speaker 6: I listened to the eighty four HS broadcast from Lexington to jazzper Indiana, and when Billy came on to doing his reports, I felt like a proud popular. 00:14:57 Speaker 5: That's Billy listen. 00:14:58 Speaker 2: Should be quiet, Billy's talking. Yeah, I agree with you. I also got more compliments on my hat jacket thing. I didn't realize, like you're styling, you know, letting somebody tell you what to wear. I think works for me. I think if I pick. 00:15:12 Speaker 4: It myself, it's much easier that way. 00:15:15 Speaker 5: Much easier. 00:15:15 Speaker 2: Because that was the nicest anyone's ever been about my about my apparel. You were styling. 00:15:21 Speaker 3: Look good to you three, you guys look good that year you wore the purple So you picked that out yourself, right, I pick that one out myself. 00:15:26 Speaker 2: Didn't have quite the same reaction. Shocking didn't have the same reaction. Right, We'll take a break, come back talk a little more about that and my interactions with UK fans this weekend's KOSR Welcome Back, Take you Sports Radio text Machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four People with good stuff right now in person rights, Matt, you just said everybody has a sad story that at the derby. 00:15:49 Speaker 5: So that's good. Well, it is good. 00:15:52 Speaker 2: It's good for TV. I don't I don't want people to have sad things happen good for the producers. 00:15:57 Speaker 5: And you're looking for sob. 00:15:59 Speaker 2: Stories, right, like you're looking for something that pulls on the heart strings. 00:16:03 Speaker 6: Those people that aren't horse people like. 00:16:05 Speaker 2: They also had that woman who's been doing it as long as I can remember, Julia Brothers, Donna Brothers. 00:16:11 Speaker 5: Okay, I'm not getting these. 00:16:15 Speaker 2: Donna Brothers. But she's been doing that forever, yrse, and this is her last one, correct, And so they have her walk out with the female trainer, Well what's the trainer wins? 00:16:24 Speaker 5: How awesome is that? 00:16:25 Speaker 2: That was fantastic television, right because you get to see her saying I hope you win, and she says I'm inspired by you and you're just like, yeah, you know power, girl power. I'm in right, so you can't ask for I like that some of the people, Shannon are British. 00:16:38 Speaker 5: I think they're just. 00:16:39 Speaker 2: Certain sports, aren't there certain sports you want to hear a British voice horse racing, soccer, soccer, and golf. If I hear a British person doing one of those, Shannon, I tend to give it more credibility. I think we should only have British people calling our soccer games. 00:16:58 Speaker 5: With you on that. 00:16:58 Speaker 3: Yeah, like I need to have like some sort of accent if I'm watching soccer. 00:17:02 Speaker 2: I don't know who's calling the World Cup, but in my opinion, they all need to be British. It's some British guys in there. Same thing with that, there's that one when that one guy talks on the broadcast and he's British. 00:17:12 Speaker 5: Yeah, and then they find Kenny Rice. 00:17:15 Speaker 6: Kenny Rice has been he did runs around like a mad man. 00:17:17 Speaker 2: But every year I'm like, whatever happened to Kenny Rice? There he shows up at the derby. He's been doing it like twenty five For the rest of the year. 00:17:24 Speaker 6: He does like these crazy play by play for like crazy sports, like what I heard him talk about it one time, like motorcycles, motorcycles, like he did m M A type fighting for a while. 00:17:37 Speaker 5: It's just nice. 00:17:37 Speaker 2: I always am like, whatever happened to Kenny Rice? And then when it comes for a horse race, there he is. 00:17:41 Speaker 6: There he is, and he's so good at it, running around trying to get the wing trainer. 00:17:45 Speaker 2: One person says, Matt great White is not fat, it's tall. That's what I like to say when I put on weight. No, it's not that, but I've just guy's gotten tall husky. 00:17:59 Speaker 5: Yeah that's right. Great White has husky shoes. 00:18:02 Speaker 4: Right, they need a lot of hay. 00:18:07 Speaker 5: Trent Noah picked the Derby winner. 00:18:09 Speaker 2: He did. I didn't see that, yeah, Trent Noah. They asked all the players on the UK team, which is like four right now, and they said who do you got? 00:18:17 Speaker 5: And Trent Noah is the one who picked who picked the tempo? 00:18:20 Speaker 2: Golden Golden? So I also had two interactions I wanted to mention. First of all, I went at the Oaks. I see Nick coffee. He's standing in a few boxes down from where am I going to talk to? When I look back, he asked me where I was sitting and I look back to show and point to him, Shannon, Mike to Rico's in my seat. 00:18:45 Speaker 4: Oh Mike, what are you doing now? 00:18:46 Speaker 2: I want you to think about that for a minute. You look and somebody's in your seat, and you realize it's Mike Trico, one. 00:18:52 Speaker 6: Of those popular guys at the track. He turns out I was. 00:18:55 Speaker 2: Sharing a box with the head of the Jockeys Guild and Mike Turrico knew him. So I go walk and I go, So, I'm like, you know, it's Mike Trinco. I want to talk to you. So what do you say? Hey, you're in my seat, You're you're kind of right. 00:19:11 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:19:11 Speaker 2: I was like, I walk in and I go, Mike Trico's in my seat, and he looks at me, and then I'm you know, then what do you say? And I go, what's your next line? 00:19:22 Speaker 7: All right? 00:19:22 Speaker 2: I'm that I'm Matt and I just said I'm on ESPN Radio where you used to work, which very few people know him for that there, I don't think so I think he left his Okay, good, Yeah, that would have been mad. I mean, this is a dude who's called the Olympics the super Bowl and I'm. 00:19:44 Speaker 5: Like, didn't you used to work at ESPN Radio. 00:19:47 Speaker 2: But it actually then that led to a conversation and we talked for like five minutes, and he couldn't have been nicer. 00:19:52 Speaker 6: That's awesome because sometimes you can meet a guy like that and he's got a lot on his mind, like going on, he could be kind of dismissed you. 00:19:57 Speaker 2: He was. He asked me questions about it. He said he had listened to us on Sundays before games, so that was nice. Then on Friday night, I went to the Sports Illustrated party. Yes, how was that? 00:20:08 Speaker 5: It was good? 00:20:09 Speaker 2: Hey? 00:20:09 Speaker 5: I talked to two celebrities, okay. 00:20:12 Speaker 2: Joe Kim Noah who wore sweatpants and a T shirt to this party, which I think, Shannon, you gotta have a lot of confidence in to do that pants. Yes, with this, everybody else's like deck to the nines. And then I got cut line in front of me. Oh, and I looked at him and I was like, who is this? Why is he because there was a line for people who had, you know, a way to get in. Yeah, and it was the guy that was playing in the Hallmark movie. Oh did you see the hall The Hallmark movie about the derby that came out. Nobody I've heard the accurate, Okay, I guess they aired it Saturday night. It was called like Kentucky Roses and he cut line and I was gonna be angry, but I looked at him, Shannon, and I was like, that dude is so handsome. 00:21:03 Speaker 5: He must be someone. 00:21:05 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:21:06 Speaker 4: So if they're good looking enough, you're okay with them just going. 00:21:09 Speaker 2: I mean, if you have a certain kind of look, you're like that person doesn't just walk the streets in the wild like they have to. He has to be somebody. And they took him, well, they took him immediately, not just to the front. They like gave him his own because the movie was debuting the next night Kentucky. 00:21:28 Speaker 6: Figure out who he was? 00:21:29 Speaker 2: I asked, somebody, who's that? Yeah, and they're like, he's in the new Hallmark Man. 00:21:33 Speaker 5: That looked like me. 00:21:34 Speaker 2: Like I was dumb. He's in the New Kentucky Road. That was him right there, him with the girl. Yeah, And like all Hallmark movies, the premise is he owns a horse, she works in the stable. 00:21:46 Speaker 5: They fall in love. 00:21:47 Speaker 2: Gotcha, no one saw that coming. 00:21:51 Speaker 5: Did any of you see that movie? 00:21:52 Speaker 2: I missed it. 00:21:54 Speaker 5: I didn't see it either. 00:21:55 Speaker 4: It's not on my watch list. 00:21:56 Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm gonna guess it wasn't good. Maybe someone listening. So somebody listening, somebody seven seven seven four five two five four. 00:22:04 Speaker 5: But but there you go. Let's go to Jake. 00:22:06 Speaker 2: Go ahead, Jake, Hey, Matt, first time, long time, one minute was calling for the golf scramble. 00:22:18 Speaker 5: All right, Jake, we're not This is not When did I say I'm not giving away the. 00:22:24 Speaker 2: Golf after the weekend? First call? See this for people who think we screen calls, Jake's call should be an example that we don't. Right. 00:22:33 Speaker 5: Would Shandon have let that through? 00:22:35 Speaker 2: No, he would not have. 00:22:36 Speaker 5: He would not. 00:22:37 Speaker 6: Jake, listen, just listen to the int do not. I thought we were doing it. 00:22:40 Speaker 5: We do not intentionally do not. 00:22:42 Speaker 2: When we have that contest, we'll we'll we'll talk about and there's a guy that thinks he deserves the tickets, and I might put that up to a vote. Okay, so we'll see a five nine twenty two eighty seven. We will talk a little UK basketball after this. Uh it's KSR. 00:22:59 Speaker 7: T J. 00:22:59 Speaker 2: Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. 00:23:02 Speaker 5: He'll make them pay. 00:23:03 Speaker 3: No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:06 Speaker 4: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:08 Speaker 2: I can't be the only person that when Cherie Devo won, didn't think of this song. There has to be somebody. 00:23:18 Speaker 4: No, I think you're it. 00:23:20 Speaker 5: They got the only person that thought of this song. 00:23:22 Speaker 2: I've never heard this song either. 00:23:25 Speaker 5: You've never heard this song? 00:23:26 Speaker 4: I don't think so. I don't think we've ever heard. 00:23:28 Speaker 2: Bobby Bear Marie devout the sound he makes, though, that's a lot. 00:23:38 Speaker 3: Bobby Bear is the same guy that has Jesus kicked Me through the post. 00:23:43 Speaker 5: Kick Me through the gold Posts of life. 00:23:45 Speaker 2: Yeah, but uh so, every time I kept hearing Sheri devout, I thought of that this song. There has to be someone else. Somebody knows it. 00:23:52 Speaker 5: Someone else listens to Willie's Roadhouse besides me. 00:23:56 Speaker 2: Hell you hear it? Text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five. Yes, that they play this on there quite a bit. I've never heard You've. 00:24:04 Speaker 5: Never heard it cheap? 00:24:05 Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think I have. 00:24:06 Speaker 2: Well, you don't have to play that scream again. It's not it's not my favorite. It's not my favorite song. Oh not many people seem to watch the movie but a couple of them say it's bad. 00:24:16 Speaker 5: So there you go. 00:24:18 Speaker 2: If I'm nine, two eight, twenty two eighty seven, now Ryan, everybody I ran into, and I ran into a lot of Kentucky fans. Yes, all the same question, literally, all the same question. Is Pope gonna get it done? That was the question, not he's not gonna get it done, not he is gonna get it done. An inquizical is Pope gonna get it done? And my answer always kind of was the same, which is, I don't know. Man. I was shocked how many it was universal, really, And then because you're in Louisville, some people who knew will Stein being like you guys like Will. But it was a universe and I and I thought about that this weekend, and I think that's the mood of the fan base. There are obviously some very negative people, but there's also just a this is gonna happen, and I kind of feel like that's where we are. 00:25:15 Speaker 6: I think that's the right answer. And you just got to say, there's no golden parachute coming from the sky anymore. I mean, they don't think it's gonna Supertar gonna land on the so well gold it's not golden Apple. 00:25:30 Speaker 5: Golden parachute is what Mitch Barnhard got. 00:25:32 Speaker 6: Yeah, well there's nothing coming for this UK basketball team either. There's no magic person coming from the transfer portal. 00:25:38 Speaker 2: This is what it is. Yeah, there's no rocking chair, there's no Chase lounge. 00:25:46 Speaker 6: So it is what it is, man, I mean, we gotta. 00:25:47 Speaker 2: Get used to it. 00:25:48 Speaker 5: You say it is what it is. 00:25:49 Speaker 2: I mean, do you do you think they're they're clearly trying to add people. I mean, he flew all the way to Israel, although it's looking like he may not get that guy. 00:25:58 Speaker 6: I mean, he had a great game. He scored a zero. I don't know why you'd want to sign him on this. 00:26:01 Speaker 3: You flew into a war zone to get a guy and he still wouldn't come play for you. 00:26:05 Speaker 2: I know, you flew into a war zone and he's might. He looks like he's going to pick a school that didn't come I mean LSU, according to I don't know. I have no inside source on this, but there are some of the insiders now think that guy's leaning LSU who did not come to. 00:26:22 Speaker 4: Is this is going from bad to just embarrassing. 00:26:24 Speaker 2: It is. I don't even want I don't even know if I want this kid, but it's like, you went all the way over there at Begainning and when. 00:26:31 Speaker 4: Your biggest rival is killing it into Portal. 00:26:33 Speaker 2: I want to get to Louisville because Louisville that is part of it, There's no doubt. But I just thought it was interesting that the mood tended to be at least for the people that would come up to me to talk is Pope gonna do it? And and I think we all are in this. I think if whether you lean that he will not or you lean that he will, I don't think. I think most people are in the I just oh, no, is he gonna do it? I think that's really like a good summary of how the fan base feel. 00:27:05 Speaker 6: And that's gonna be the theme until he tip off in October. I mean, there's those questions are out there. I'm holding out that I think this team could be like his first team and won't be a Final four team, but one we can get behind and enjoy and watch and play. 00:27:19 Speaker 2: Will the fan base be as into such a team if it's his third year and not his first year. I mean the premise of that is his first year was he's building something great. 00:27:29 Speaker 4: Huh, give him time, right, give him time? 00:27:31 Speaker 5: All right, now it's the third. 00:27:32 Speaker 4: Year we've given them time. 00:27:34 Speaker 2: Let's say you have that same season that you did the first year, right. Does everybody go with that? 00:27:40 Speaker 6: Not totally, but but he keeps his job, keeps his job. 00:27:43 Speaker 5: I agree with that. 00:27:44 Speaker 2: Yeah. So one person said to me, be honest, how good is this team gonna be? And I sat there this weekend yesterday and I really tried to look at the roster and see how I felt it would be. Let's say we had no major pieces. Okay, I mean we're gonna add a couple of players, because you have to have more players. But let's say we don't add a superstar. I think the team will be fine, but it's not gonna be great. I agree, it'll be fine. I don't think it'll miss the tournament. I don't think it'll be terrible, but I don't think it's gonna be great. And I don't think you're I don't think you're gonna have a minute during the season when we feel like we're a contender. No, And I think that's what the fan base really wants to feel. And I don't know if it's gonna feel like that. I agree. 00:28:35 Speaker 6: Like I said, it kind of is what it is this roster. So if you're looking at your expectations going in, are Sweet sixteen, maybe Elite eight if you get hot at the right time, But Elite. 00:28:44 Speaker 2: Eight, as people say to City sixteen. Maybe if you those are good, that's good. Yes, it is. If you told me this was an e lead eight team, that means they are one or two seed in a tournament. 00:28:52 Speaker 5: Our fan base will take. 00:28:54 Speaker 2: That at a heartbeat, understand, So like, that's not I mean, I don't think we're doing that, or else i'd be excited. 00:29:01 Speaker 5: Yeah, if you get to the Elite eight, you're. 00:29:03 Speaker 2: One game away from the final four. I'm more like, are we gonna win a game in the tournament? I think we'll make the tournament, but are we gonna win a game? 00:29:13 Speaker 3: If he doesn't, Let's say they get to the tournament, he loses first round. 00:29:16 Speaker 5: That's tough because then you've gotten worse every year. 00:29:18 Speaker 4: Yeah, is he back for another year? 00:29:20 Speaker 5: Yeah? I don't know. Then that that's hard. 00:29:22 Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to thatbody, but you would have gotten worse every year. Yeah. 00:29:26 Speaker 5: Yeah, that's going the opposite direction of what. 00:29:28 Speaker 6: You It's definitely not acceptable for the Kentucky Wildcat basketball programming to be in that situation. 00:29:34 Speaker 2: So we'll see. There was another European that popped up last night. I'm not gonna claim to know who he was. His name was like Sizzick. He's like seven foot two and eighteen and skinny. 00:29:47 Speaker 4: Is he from Israel? Was there another Israel plan? 00:29:49 Speaker 5: I don't think he's from Israel. 00:29:51 Speaker 2: I think he I think I want to say he played in Spain maybe, but he's I don't know if he's Spanish. 00:29:55 Speaker 5: I can't. 00:29:55 Speaker 2: I just saw his name and I didn't really look into it because I don't even know if Kentucky's. 00:30:00 Speaker 5: But we were going up against l s U and b YU for him as well. 00:30:05 Speaker 2: We if we lose one to l s U and one to b YU, well you know, I tweeted out last night, hey UK basketball, show us sign of life. Send out a comment, a video, a statement. I do believe that. I mean, they don't have to do that, but like if I were in charge of PR, I'd be going to him and going, look, we got to give our fans some we need to hear from our leader. 00:30:27 Speaker 5: We got to give him something. Yeah, but so far, no, Kevin, go ahead. 00:30:32 Speaker 2: Kevin. 00:30:35 Speaker 7: Actually is good good timing for for why I'm calling with all the things, that's Pope. You know, Pope's done the staff over last year and a half. You know, the bad pr the bad recruiting, the blowout losses. Why can't uh, you know, where's the rule written that we can't we have to wait a third year? I mean, his buyout isn't that much and the buyout, well, the rule is not good. 00:30:58 Speaker 5: I mean there's no rule, but it's not gonna happen. I mean, we. 00:31:02 Speaker 7: Can spend all we can spend all. 00:31:05 Speaker 2: Year because it's not going to I mean you you may personally think it should, and I'm not going to try to tell you can or can't think that you think what you want, but I'm just telling you as a practical matter, it's not gonna happen. So if it's not gonna happen, I don't see the productivity of go of talking about it for the next six months. 00:31:24 Speaker 5: It's not gonna happen. If it's gonna happen, it would already happen. 00:31:29 Speaker 7: Well, I just think in today's age, I think there's if there's ever been a time of you know, what have you done for me lately? It's now. I think it's almost commonplace that coaches get fired. 00:31:39 Speaker 2: But nobody gets fired in May when the rosters are already said. Hey, let me just I mean, if you want to play this out, I'll do this once and I appreciate the call. I'm not gonna do it again for the rest of the year. Let's just say you do it. You know, there's a rule book, there's there's a there's the thing in the rules that said all the players can leave, yes, and they would. They can all leave, and we can't go get anybody because everybody else is already liked who's out there, So we would lose our entire roster potentially and get no one back. You can't do it, Nope, I mean you can't because literally there is a provision in the NCAA that says, if you let go of a coach, the portal opens, no matter when it is. 00:32:23 Speaker 6: But I do hear this something because they think, well, we can go get Billy donovaning maybe say. 00:32:27 Speaker 5: Well, maybe, but that's not gonna happen. 00:32:30 Speaker 2: First, we don't even have an athletic director. When's that happening. I mean, we don't even have an athletic director right now, so I just don't think it's productive. First of all, I don't think they should let him go. That's my personal opinion. But even if you do, like, it's not gonna happen. So what's the point of It's like saying, why doesn't Shannon become an angel? Oh? 00:32:52 Speaker 4: I already am. You can't become what you already are. 00:32:55 Speaker 2: I mean, it's not gonna happen. So we can talk about it, but it doesn't really do anything. 00:33:01 Speaker 6: Shann had a derby party, didn't invite any of us. 00:33:04 Speaker 5: Yeah, it happens every year, right, not coming I would have stopped by. 00:33:09 Speaker 4: No, you were in Lexington probably. 00:33:11 Speaker 5: No I was it? Yeah, I was, But I would have thought about it. 00:33:14 Speaker 4: Yeah, you have thought about it. You just want to be invited. 00:33:17 Speaker 5: That's exactly right. Uh. 00:33:18 Speaker 2: You know why do people not avoid thinking about the roof? Well, who wants to spend time on a roof and money? That's a lot to do. Water stop? But then water stop starts showing up inside and all of a sudden you have problems. But if you had thought about it earlier, it could have happened. That's why you need to call CRC Roofing and Renovations. They make the process simple and explain exactly what's going on, so you know what you what your options are CRC Roofing that CRC company dot com slash KSR CRC company dot com slash KSR or eight five, nine, three two, seven thirty nine thirteen and now through the end of May, you can save up to one thousand dollars on a new roof. If you're a KSR listener CRC roofing dot com. It is your place to get roofing and renovations. By the way, just a little note. If someone calls me from ten to noon, Shannon, I'm certain they don't know me. Yeah. True, you know what I mean. 00:34:15 Speaker 4: Here's the great thing. A boss used to call us during the show. 00:34:18 Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true. And that's how I knew he didn't listen to the show. 00:34:21 Speaker 2: I loved Earl, but I knew he didn't listen to the show because he would call during it. And I was like, clearly, you don't even know when I'm on the air. 00:34:28 Speaker 4: Yeah, you can call in as a caller on the. 00:34:30 Speaker 2: Show, but like if you're if you're a friend of mine and you don't and you call me between ten to noon like I know you don't really know me. 00:34:40 Speaker 5: We'll be very bad. 00:34:43 Speaker 2: Welcome back, take you sports radio. If I'm nine two, twenty two eighty seven, this is Bobby Bear. Apparently he lives just outside of Ashland on the other side of the river. 00:34:52 Speaker 5: Does he what is it? What's the Ohio town? 00:34:54 Speaker 1: There? Is it? 00:34:55 Speaker 5: Arrington? 00:34:57 Speaker 6: Ironton's on the other Ohio side? Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's why I said. I had to think for a second. 00:35:02 Speaker 5: I think it's iron Yeah, okay, uh eight. 00:35:04 Speaker 2: If I'm nine eight, twenty two eighty seven, he does, he does a great job. 00:35:08 Speaker 6: I've heard this song. I have not heard the first song you played by him. 00:35:11 Speaker 5: There are a lot of people who knew were each twelve. That makes me feel good. Shannon's yeah, okay, you know touch not here. 00:35:19 Speaker 2: Just you are out of touch. You're out of touch with kids today. And what's what it is? 00:35:22 Speaker 4: They's ninety one by the way, I just looked them up. 00:35:25 Speaker 2: He's ninety onety one years old. If the kids still like he's still rocking, it's fun. 00:35:30 Speaker 4: TikTok right, Yes. 00:35:33 Speaker 2: One comparison writes Matt, did you see Pope or any of the coaches at the derby? 00:35:37 Speaker 5: I did not. I don't think they were there. 00:35:38 Speaker 2: Will Stein, I think was there and see Pope, but he honestly probably needs to be out recruiting working on that roster. 00:35:45 Speaker 6: Will Stein's like, I'm good man, I'm reeling in these four stars. 00:35:49 Speaker 5: Yeah, will Stein, I think he got another one. Doney. 00:35:51 Speaker 2: Right now we have the ninth ran class man. That's incredible. 00:35:55 Speaker 6: Good for him. Now, you guys go out and win some games exactly. 00:35:58 Speaker 5: Now you have to go win. 00:35:59 Speaker 2: But still a good uh a good you know, a good place to be. 00:36:04 Speaker 5: All right. So U of L signed another guy, Yes they did. 00:36:07 Speaker 2: What do we make of U of L getting on I mean, UFL is gonna spend thirty million dollars on this roster. I don't care what their fans say. It's gonna be. It's gonna be more expensive than Kentucky's roster, which by the way, I'm not criticizing them for. 00:36:19 Speaker 5: I wish we had it. Yes, not necessarily. 00:36:22 Speaker 2: I don't think that roster they have is gonna win a title because I don't think they have enough scoring. But they're gonna be big gonna be They're gonna be a lot like Florida's team last year. You know how the bigs were all so good, but then their guards were kind of I think that's how they're gonna be. But it's still gonna be a good team. 00:36:38 Speaker 6: So is that all Papa John's money. 00:36:40 Speaker 2: You gotta think that the announcement they're bringing Papa John back has a little bit. 00:36:43 Speaker 6: To do with I think where else they getting all this money somebody's got. 00:36:46 Speaker 2: But it's also frustrating that, like we're losing out on guys and they just keep getting guys and U T. 00:36:52 Speaker 5: Tennessee's gonna have their best team. 00:36:54 Speaker 6: Tennessee and Florida gonna be awesome this year. 00:36:56 Speaker 2: I mean, if you're saying, who are the best rosters in college basketball, Florida, Duke, Tennessee, and Louisville are gonna have four probably the seven best rosters in America pretty much our four rivals. Yeah, I mean you could argue those are our four biggest basket. I mean some people would throw Indian in there, but I don't. Yeah, and then maybe I guess Arkansas while Cow's there. 00:37:24 Speaker 6: So it just makes it sting a little more. You look down the road and they're bringing all these people. 00:37:28 Speaker 5: That's gonna be tough. 00:37:29 Speaker 2: I mean, that's gonna be tough on Mark, you know, So he's gonna You're gonna have to hope that this group uh over achieves over you are, I mean there really are, unless they get another guy, which maybe they will. But unless they get another guy, this group's gonna have to overachieve. Where's that guy coming from? 00:37:49 Speaker 5: Well, I don't know that they're gonna get another big guy, another star. 00:37:53 Speaker 2: I think once they once he made that flight to Israel, that said to me, okay, because that guy's going to cost money. 00:38:02 Speaker 5: So that was gonna be the last piece. 00:38:04 Speaker 2: Now they didn't get him, or at least they haven't gotten him yet, so I don't know. But you know what's crazy is I think they've already spent quite a bit of money. Like this is the thing I don't think people realize. Let's just talk about Kentucky's already spent money. 00:38:20 Speaker 6: Yes, and he got a bunch left over, and they didn't get Stokes. 00:38:24 Speaker 2: But I remember I told you there was money for Stokes that was only for him. So I want you to think about how much they've spent whatever you think of this roster. 00:38:31 Speaker 5: They've spent money. Malcoi Moreno had to cost him at least three million. 00:38:36 Speaker 2: Dollars probably maybe more. Yeah, Okay, to bring him back Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins. They outbid, like they had to spend a lot of money for those guys. Uh huh. That's probably a seven million dollar back court. All right, maybe more So you're at ten million and you've got three players, right, your dude from your dude from Senegal. To get him to come from Europe, it's got to be at least two maybe two point five. Okay, you're twelve and a half. Now you're at twelve and a half with four players. Who's the three cam Yeah, had to be at least two. 00:39:21 Speaker 5: Now you're at fourteen. Yeah, and you've just gotten your starting line. 00:39:25 Speaker 2: Remember we paid twenty two last year, so you got eight million dollars to go get ten players. I had to play britt Justin McBride probably was one point five or two. Now you're probably at eleven point five or twelve. So rading Hawthorne probably cost you just the litle Raiding Hawthorne certainly cost you money. So now I'm thinking you're at like fourteen. I was told this year that the amount of money was gonna be like eighteen, So you probably got like four minue dollars left and you still have got a bunch of spots to phil. 00:40:03 Speaker 5: So I think whatever people feel about the roster, I think they've spent some money. 00:40:08 Speaker 2: Now. They haven't spent what Duke spent or what Louisville spent, but they've probably spent more than all but a handful of other teams in the country. 00:40:17 Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, very few teas probably spent fifteen million already. 00:40:20 Speaker 5: Probably not. 00:40:22 Speaker 2: So you know, that's why I don't necessarily think there's a magical thing out there that's they're gonna grab Dwayne. 00:40:30 Speaker 5: Go ahead, Dwayne. 00:40:36 Speaker 7: UK basketball talk. Let's go try to light in the mood. 00:40:40 Speaker 2: You want to hear a good knock knock joke. No good, we need it. 00:40:46 Speaker 5: Go ahead, knock knock? Who's there? Uh ah? Who where? 00:40:59 Speaker 2: Then? 00:41:00 Speaker 5: Yeah? That made you laugh. It did make me laugh, all right. 00:41:08 Speaker 4: I was when. 00:41:10 Speaker 2: You when I did the fact that you got me to do it, and then I raised what i'd done. 00:41:15 Speaker 5: Gott he appreciate the call. Who's next? 00:41:20 Speaker 4: The break's next? Grant? 00:41:22 Speaker 5: Uh Grant. He's gone no, Grant, go ahead, Grant quickly. 00:41:26 Speaker 7: Okay, okay, this is Grant from the K s R Golf scram with. 00:41:31 Speaker 2: Every segment and with somebody calling about the golf scrap. 00:41:34 Speaker 5: I'm gonna Grant.
