Speaker 4: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:33
Speaker 1: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:35
Speaker 5: Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio. Tuesday, October the eighth. I'm Matt Jones here at the KS Bar in Grill which will open in an hour with Ryan Lemon and Drew Franklin. Shannon is in Louisville. You can give Sean the Clark's Pumping Shop full line. I want you know, I want to talk to you today. We actually kind of have sort of a mix of a day because we don't have Big Blue Madness for the game, so we got some time to talk. You could ask your questions. I kind of see this as a lot of a basketball day for a variety of reasons. It's UK media day and I got to watch the team play for the first time yesterday. As a lot of you may have on the on the computer on the Pro Day, the Clark's puppet shot fold line or text machine is seven seven two. No, that's not right, Avis, aon auto glass text machine is seven seven two seven to seven four five two five four. In this disition sponsored by a TJ. Smith office, you called TJ. He'll make them pay, Ryan Drew, I want to talk about yesterday, the Pro Day. I want to talk about the football game Saturday. But we Ryan, I'm very excited about this evening. I didn't think we were going to be able to talk about it, but now we can, and so I need to express my excitement to you.

00:01:43
Speaker 3: I'm very excited. I didn't really even get the invitation till yesterday, so you've known about it for a little bit.

00:01:47
Speaker 5: Yeah, so I've known about this for about a week. Tonight. You know, my favorite artist and what I think all of you like, but certainly my favorite one, Tyler Childers, is playing a concert in Georgetown, Kentucky.

00:02:02
Speaker 3: Yes, in Georgetown.

00:02:03
Speaker 5: That is gonna be live streamed on I think Drew. It's called Volume. I don't know what that is. What is that.

00:02:10
Speaker 6: First I've heard of it.

00:02:12
Speaker 5: It's what's it's they play concerts, right, It's like a streaming podcast concert and a site. And if you have the internet, uh, you can find how to get it from from the internet. You go to uh cover you watch pro Day. Just do that exactly, go where the pro Day was and it's streaming at six o'clock. It is Ah, it's like a get out the vote. It's to encourage people to go vote. Correct, Okay, Uh, I don't think it's to encourage it's not to encourage you to vote for. You vote for whoever you want. You vote for Mario if you want, you can vote for what's your name, Sir Zach. You can vote for Zach. Might do it, Might do it you. But it's a volume and he's streaming it. It starts at six o'clock and I think it goes, you know, for a couple of hours, and it's gonna stay up there and it's me like him playing music with his band. But Shannon, they have to tape it somewhere yeah, right, So.

00:03:07
Speaker 1: I just go to my ESPN app I opening that up.

00:03:10
Speaker 5: I think, so, No, it's on volume. I said, they have to tape it. I guess that's not the language you used. You, but you have to perform it somewhere. So they're performing it at Country Boy in Georgetown, and I got invited. I'm really I mean, I'm really exciting. And there's only gonna two hundred and fifty people, right, two hundred and fifty people. I saw Tyler eight years ago and there were less than two hundred and fifty people. And now I remember thinking as I walked out of that show at the Borough where there was probably like five hundred people, I remember thinking, well, I'll never get to see him in this size venue ever again. And now we get to do it tonight. And then they invited Ryan Drew Shannon. I assume they invited Billy. Did they invite Billy?

00:03:57
Speaker 3: I've not talked to Billy.

00:03:58
Speaker 5: I don't know, Billy. Do not put this evil on me, risky, Bobby. I think Drew, you were supposed to invite Billy. I'll call Billy during the break.

00:04:07
Speaker 3: No, and Mario Mario got invited.

00:04:10
Speaker 5: Mario doesn't even know who Tyler Childers is, and like there are Tyler Childers fans Drew who would absolutely murder to be there tonight, and Mario's gonna be there. How crazy is that?

00:04:23
Speaker 6: Mario's hot street continues. I'm very excited. I've seen him several times at big festivals or Rapperina, but for something this small, I mean, I just think that's gonna make it even better.

00:04:33
Speaker 5: Experience is the coolest. Can you imagine seeing your favorite artist in a venue where we did ov W wrestling a few weeks ago, Like it's a KSR. We've done KSR there, Yes, Like the amount of people that are at the KSR remote, that's how many they're letting in for this. Now I've been told don't show up. They're like they won't let you in. Like I know there's people listening who want to like come and and but they're not gonna let you in. Like they sold a hand some tickets that will the money goes to to voting I don't know, goes to a voting stuff and and I all it goes to voting and I just go to volume. Now go to go to volume. But just that's the real website. By the way, but they invited us because we were you know, because country Boy. We've been partners with them forever. And Ryan, I'm really excited about.

00:05:26
Speaker 3: I'm super excited about it. The only time I've ever seen him live is when he did the flood relief benefit concert at Roperna. Of course he just did like about a thirty minute set. Yeah, so I'm really excited. But you said you've seen him like a dozen times already.

00:05:37
Speaker 5: I counted on my drive here. I think this will be my thirteenth one. Wow, I think I've seen him in at small venues in Lexington three times. Uh. What's the place in Louisville? Is it Headliners? Is that a place Shannon in Louisville?

00:05:51
Speaker 1: Yes, it is, Yes, Headline.

00:05:52
Speaker 5: I saw him back to back nights there. I saw him in a thing he did to help raise money for Johnny Boone's corn brand Mafia. Really yeah, that was a long time ago. That was with the cornbread Hemp guys. So that was six. Then we saw him at rough twice. So I'm in Brooklyn, Saint Louis, Cumberland, Maryland in LA. So this will be the third. No, this will be the fourteenth time. Because I saw him in Amsterdam too, originally fourteen Yes.

00:06:20
Speaker 3: Well, like you said, I'm there'll be security out there. People don't. Don't think you're just gonna be able to drive up and go to the concert. You're not gonna be allowed.

00:06:28
Speaker 5: To get it. You're not gonna be allowed to get it.

00:06:29
Speaker 4: Fourteen times is impressive to see anybody. I mean, you're practically a groupie at this point now, Oh, for sure.

00:06:34
Speaker 5: And it's been a couple of years, it's been well, I guess I saw him at the Willie Nelson thing in lah So that would have been the last time, but he only played a couple of songs and then was gone. So did you see him Red Rock one time? Oh? I forgot about that one fifteen times ship. Yeah, I saw him at Red Rock.

00:06:52
Speaker 1: I haven't seen him in.

00:06:55
Speaker 5: Order. Well, so, so should be a fun event and we'll play some of his music here today. But uh, now, Mario, I think it's gonna be interesting to get his take on. Yes, have you ever even been to a country concert? No, have you ever been to a concert sung by a white person? No? See, this is what I'm saying. This will be a completely different thing from Marc.

00:07:23
Speaker 1: We're opening all kinds of new doors from marw It's right.

00:07:25
Speaker 6: He is just the sponge that is just taking in all this all these new things yesterday pro day, which we'll get into later.

00:07:31
Speaker 5: But he just had so many questions he did. Put him on for just a second over your mind, Uh, your mind, Here you go, Mario, just just go again on Drew's microphone. There. So you have never been to a country concert. What in your mind is a country concert gonna look like.

00:07:48
Speaker 7: I'm not sure. I know it's gonna be country music. I do know that, Yes, I'm guessing. Uh, depends on what type of music they play, Like, what type of countries is it's.

00:07:57
Speaker 5: Gonna be like up tempo. No, it's gonna be like mountain country music. So something with a strong voice some of them. Yeah, that's fair to say. Yeah.

00:08:07
Speaker 3: Will there be a lot of cowboy hats there?

00:08:09
Speaker 5: Probably not. There might be a couple, but it's not like it's not like Jason Aldean. Okay, Like it's not gonna be like its to be a cowboy Yeah, it's not. It's gonna be like people will be wearing trucker hats. Okay, when you agree that's probably true, but not cowboy have boy hat? Now, what are you gonna wear? I'm wearing what I got on right now. Okay, So you're not gonna try to dress for the atmosphere.

00:08:33
Speaker 1: Get you a trucker hat?

00:08:35
Speaker 5: Do you have a trucker hat?

00:08:36
Speaker 7: I do have a trucker hat, but it was my hair. I can't wear it. I can't wear hats like.

00:08:41
Speaker 5: So you're just gonna be like, I'm Mario, I'm Mario, this is this is this is you doing your thing? Yep? Okay, so uh, I think you know there may be some dignitaries there. Are you gonna go introduce yourself to the dignitaries? I think a lot of the you know, probably politicians. Do you know? Do you there's some Do you know who Silas House is? He's an author? I don't know who that is. He'll be here probably, I'm just guessing. I don't know that for sure. Maybe yeah, maybe Ryme Quarrels. Maybe I don't. I don't know who's got The only people I know are coming to us in in d H. Do you have any advice for him?

00:09:19
Speaker 8: Ryan?

00:09:20
Speaker 3: Part of my fun tonight will be not just to music, but I think observing Mario soaking it all in, don't you think so?

00:09:25
Speaker 5: Well? Enjoy that? So I think you should, like you, you should just take video, like video of what it's like for you to go to a country concert. That'd be fun. Now, well you're looking forward to it. I'm definitely looking for all right, Well we will tomorrow. You can give your impressions of what it is. That's the plan. All right, I appreciate it now. Now the other part of this is Shannon, in a classic Shannon form, invited to go, not coming.

00:09:54
Speaker 1: He was just here a week ago, not coming.

00:09:57
Speaker 5: He was just there's two hundred and fifty people, can you not come?

00:10:01
Speaker 1: Tell Tyler, I promise I'll vote. I've got it. I got the message.

00:10:05
Speaker 3: I will vote.

00:10:06
Speaker 1: You got me.

00:10:07
Speaker 5: But Drew like, even if I wasn't the biggest fan, if it's two hundred and fifty people in a place like country, like, I'm gonna go, Like if it was the Food Fighters, or if it was what band would you that's still alive shaded? Would you really want to see?

00:10:24
Speaker 1: Not many? Maybe?

00:10:26
Speaker 4: Like okay, like, let's do a Kentucky band that I really like, black Stone Cherry.

00:10:30
Speaker 5: I love Blackstone Cherry. Yeah, was in was like there, Yeah, And with Shannon Day, I would go. Wouldn't you go?

00:10:38
Speaker 3: I think he would want to go.

00:10:40
Speaker 1: Doesn't even know who they are. You wouldn't go Blackstone Cherry, Yeah, sure, blue Stone Cherry. Yea Robbie, you're explaining.

00:10:50
Speaker 2: To you?

00:10:51
Speaker 5: So would you go?

00:10:53
Speaker 3: Just as part of our little posse?

00:10:55
Speaker 5: So like, who's your favorite group? Darius?

00:10:58
Speaker 3: I would go with you with two.

00:11:00
Speaker 5: One hundred and fifty people, Drew, who's yours? I've been with you to see jay Z. We've already done it. We've done it. It can be hard to see Jimmy Buffett these days. That would be harder. So I just I'm I'm not surprisingly Shannon has a chance to do something that probably half of our listeners would like punching to get to do. And Shannon's like, no, I'm gonna sit home and watch the Royals play.

00:11:21
Speaker 1: Basement you joke, That's probably what I'll do.

00:11:24
Speaker 5: I know that's what she'll do.

00:11:26
Speaker 6: I would drive a long distance for tonight, So I'm very happy it's in my backyard in Georgetown. But if they called from a brewery in Illinois and I were able to make it, I would I would try.

00:11:37
Speaker 5: To not Shannon. The question is would Shannon have gone if it was next door to his house? Let's talk about the radio. Probably, Okay, how many that's right down over there, you're too loud County. If it was in uh Nelson County? Would you go if it was in Bardstown.

00:11:56
Speaker 1: Let's see, that's about a twenty minute drive. Probably not.

00:12:02
Speaker 5: He gets the opportunity. The thing that Joe's is crazy to me, that Chap he gets the opportunity to do all this stuff, and.

00:12:10
Speaker 3: Like he does like a quarter of it.

00:12:12
Speaker 5: But then you do. Ryan. You're the same way. We've had so many cool sports opportunities that you used You used to say no, and then finally I was like, you're going to this stuff. But that was a conversation. Remember Drew, we used to go to the NCAA tournament and he did. He wouldn't go, and finally I had to sit him down and go, look, you're part of the show. You have to go, and now you go. But like a lot of times, you would rather just sit at home.

00:12:38
Speaker 3: Well, a lot of time there's other obligations, I don't know, watching the Royals baseball games and the obligation to not do something.

00:12:44
Speaker 5: Let's be honest, you would sit at home with your lady and you all would like massage each other. That's what you would have done for a lot of I didn't.

00:12:53
Speaker 3: Get into that.

00:12:54
Speaker 4: I just did eight out of eleven days an amusing festival, understand.

00:12:58
Speaker 5: But nevertheless it.

00:13:00
Speaker 3: Is kind of an intimate setting.

00:13:01
Speaker 5: Well that's you don't make it too This is just a con.

00:13:06
Speaker 3: For the concert and Tyler tonight, Yeah.

00:13:08
Speaker 1: An go massage, Tyler, don't.

00:13:11
Speaker 5: I don't think we won't be it. We'll be in massage the vote, Massage the vote. That's right, eight five nine two eight to twenty two eighty seven. The text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four when we come back. We went to Pro Day yesterday, me and Drew and Mario. First time I've been in that building since COVID and uh it was very very interesting to watch the new team. Will, Drew and I will talk about some of our impressions. That's next. Yeh here on k sorry, welcome back. Take you sports radio. Those of you that are riding me asking if you can buy Shannon's ticket, The answer is no, Yeah, Shannon, that ticket will go back into the general fund because he didn't use it, But no, you can.

00:13:52
Speaker 4: I've got so many lookalikes out there. He could just poses me and nobody would question you.

00:13:55
Speaker 5: We could bring the puppet from the mister Rodgers and every he that would be able to get in. It would be great. But now Billy needs it. Yeah, yeah, well we'll give it to Billy. I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Let's talk about the football thing. Yesterday drew our football basketball. Uh, first of all, impressions of our watching our basketball team play Memorial Coliseum the first time I've seen it in its basketball complete set up done amazing. Yeah, I mean I knew it was good. It's amazing, Like, it's gonna be so cool. That blue white thing in there is gonna be really really cool. It was. It was awesome.

00:14:32
Speaker 4: Was that?

00:14:32
Speaker 5: What was your take on it? Yeah?

00:14:33
Speaker 6: I mean this was my first time seeing the basketball team, and sorry, guys, I cared more about the building.

00:14:38
Speaker 5: That place was so cool.

00:14:40
Speaker 6: It wasn't like they just threw some posters up, some paint, tried to fix it up a little bit. That felt like being an entirely new building.

00:14:47
Speaker 5: It was so nice.

00:14:48
Speaker 9: Uh.

00:14:48
Speaker 6: The new scoreboard, though, doesn't go to one hundred. We gotta get that fixed.

00:14:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's something we gotta get fixed. The new scoreboard stops at ninety nine. Can't do that. Come on, got a because the women's team's gonna hit one hundred, So we gotta fix the school. Nevertheless, everything else I thought was awesome, Like it's beautiful inside, and it feels like you're in a modern building. You know, if you kind of want that old historic and that's gone. It doesn't feel like that anymore. It feels like you're in a modern arena. I think that's good. One side has chair backs, which I think is is very good. The home side the other side, uh does not, but it is very very nice. The team. Here's what I'll say. And a lot of you that watch this on streaming will know this. Although I don't think it didn't seem to me like a ton of people were watching it, this is gonna be so different than what we've had in the last fourteen years that I'm gonna be I'm gonna be interested to see how fans react to it. I think they're gonna love it. Like for those of you that loved the Patino, It's time, It's it's not again. Get ready for that. Like, think about what that ninety one, two, three, ninety four team really before he loaded up with stars.

00:16:02
Speaker 3: But those first few.

00:16:03
Speaker 5: Teams, I think that's what you're gonna see now. I think there's better players. Well, Mashburn was great, But besides Mashburn, I think there's gonna be some better players here than you saw them. But that's what we're gonna see up and down the court, shooting, hard nosed defense. They're counting deflections like it. Patino basketball is back here, and that's the mindset we need to have now. The talent is not as good as what we've seen with Cal It's just not. They don't have guys who can do the thing that makes you go whoa, that's not really there. The closest thing is Jackson Robinson, and he'll give you a couple of those moments. But in general, this is going to be team basketball, passing, cutting, shooting, defense, in your face, help take charges. That's what we're gonna see, dudes just taking it and dunking on somebody. How many young did we even see yesterday? Andrew Carr had one good one. Other than that, I don't even remember that stuffs me. I mean, it's just not gonna happen, and I think it'll be a ton of fun, but it is going to be drew extremely different, and it's sort of watching it yesterday it popped to me in a way that it didn't theoretically. I had to take a second to go. This is just a completely different Kentucky basketball than I've seen since the Tubby era and probably the Patino era in terms of how they play. Yeah, and offensively, I love all of the passing.

00:17:37
Speaker 6: It's just a pass. There's just not much dribbling. I mean Cal's dribble drive that was a big deal. He had guys that could penetrate. I loved watching him do it. I don't even remember dribbles yesterday.

00:17:47
Speaker 5: It's past pass pass.

00:17:48
Speaker 6: A lot of it was running through a Mario Williams at the top of the key. I think Center could be among the assist leaders on the team with the way they're gonna play and the way he was just finding open shooters and I'm knock him down. It's so different and it's gonna be so fun to watch as long as they're winning. Gotta win, but it's just a completely different style. I'm excited for a refreshing to see something new.

00:18:06
Speaker 5: It is, but I'm gonna predict whether it's the Blue White game or it's the first or second exhibition game, there's gonna be a moment rin where fans are like, what what is happening? Like it's completely different, and when I you know, I think the probably the best example is Alabama. I think in two in a year or two, when we get the talent Pope is trying to get, I think the Alabama teams of the last year or two will be what it reminds you of. But I'm not sure this team has the level of size and athleticism that the Alabama teams of the last Cup. So like if you watched BYU last year, it's probably a better version of that. But this is a different kind of player than we've had at Kentucky since Tubby. I mean, that's the last time we've had dudes like this. This is a team of Gerald Fitch's and Eric Daniels Like, that's what this is. And I just think fans, it's it's gonna be so different.

00:19:07
Speaker 3: They think like they play the very fast and they're gonna be fun to watch.

00:19:10
Speaker 5: They play so fast, they are gonna be insanely fast, yea like. I mean, every possession in practice yesterday was twelve seconds the shot went off. Now, I mean I'm told that usually it's twenty, but they wanted to do twelve for the pro scouts. But even if usually it's twenty, that's crazy fast. Now, individual assessments. To me, if I'm looking individually, there were four things that stood out. Number One, Jackson Robinson is the is the dude in terms of six seconds left, you need a shot, it's gonna be him. He's the one. He's the only guy I saw Drew who could go take his man and get his shot at any time.

00:19:58
Speaker 6: Do you agree with that? Do you could see it there? I actually thought he didn't even have a great day. I don't know as being maybe the main NBA guy, having all those scouts around him, he's filming that a little bit, but I even thought he could have given more. But it was clear that when you need a penetrator or a rem finisher, he's the one.

00:20:12
Speaker 5: He He's the one guy that if you watch you could say I could have seen him play for cal just in the way that he plays. I think that the two best players besides him by far are car and Brea offensively would you agree with that? Yeah, I've got another guy that I'm putting as one of the best players. Okay, but offensively, those dudes are kind of are another level. Then I think the other seven guys are gonna be interchangeable. I think there's a couple guys that won't play a lot this year. I mean to me, I'm doing tiers. Jackson won Car, Braa two, then Tier three pretty much everybody else, and then Tier four. I think I would put almanor Noah and maybe even Chandler. I think Chandler struggled a little more than I thought he would. He's shorter than I thought he was. He did some athletic things five on five. He's got some athleticism. But I do think I put Travis Perry with that third group because.

00:21:19
Speaker 6: Just because he doesn't miss, I think you're leaving off Lamont. Butler his defense was so they couldn't dribble around him. He's gonna be the starting point guard. And when Pope said, I don't lose sleeping night worry about guarding sec point guards, I saw a little bit yesterday exactly what Pope meant that dude was a menace defensively.

00:21:36
Speaker 5: That's fair. That's fair. I can see that. I do you agree with me? Travis Perry's gonna play.

00:21:42
Speaker 6: I know people think we're exaggerating. I even thought Pope and the team was exaggerating. I don't remember him missing. He doesn't shot yesterday. I'm not trying to hype him up too much. I'm telling you what I saw. I watched him in a drill waiting for a miss and couldn't find one. If they finally later in the practice when they're playing little five and five, he missed a shot, and I even to y'all need to know that he finally just missed Ryan, he doesn't miss.

00:22:03
Speaker 5: I want you to think about how money reed Shepherd and Antonio Reeves would feel. He feels more money than that. Now. I think he has a hard time than those guys getting his own shot. But I'm telling you, if he's open, just start running down the court. It's going in.

00:22:18
Speaker 3: And that's why he's gonna be on the court now.

00:22:20
Speaker 5: He made it.

00:22:20
Speaker 3: You know it. May I get a ton of minutes, but he's gonna get on the court, especially if team start throwing his own out there. He's gonna play.

00:22:26
Speaker 5: Man.

00:22:26
Speaker 6: I don't know if he can guard or what he can do, but if he has an open shot.

00:22:30
Speaker 5: He's gonna he's gonna hit.

00:22:31
Speaker 3: I put my life on it.

00:22:32
Speaker 6: I mean, the dude is hitting everything I watched him shoot.

00:22:35
Speaker 5: So I am really excited about this group. I have no idea how they're gonna do. I really don't. I have no idea how they're gonna do. I think there's gonna be some games where we beat the junk out of teams, and then I think there's gonna be some games where we're down eight at home to Old Miss with three minutes left and we're like, what are we doing? But it's me fun. I think this group, I don't think there's gonna be any game you watch his team play that you're not gonna have fun. We'll take a break. Be right back.

00:23:07
Speaker 1: TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

00:23:10
Speaker 5: He'll make them pay. Now.

00:23:15
Speaker 1: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:17
Speaker 5: Shannon not gonna get to hear this tonight because he's got like other things to do.

00:23:21
Speaker 1: I can hear it right now though.

00:23:22
Speaker 5: That's why he's also not gonna vote. He's just gonna be like, look, the Royals are on. That's what it is. He's taking a stance, he's taking us. He's just big Royals guy, has been for a long time. That's all right, that's what you want to do. That's fine. Eighty five nine eight twenty two eighty seven. My mom said if she had known Shannon, she would have taken your ticket. She have it. Well, I mean she can't.

00:23:43
Speaker 1: Just it's my ticket. I'll do what I want with it.

00:23:48
Speaker 5: I don't know if that's how it works.

00:23:49
Speaker 4: Your mom, before I give it to Billy, I would that would be if you just said, Billy, no, sorry, it's it's uh, it's not happened.

00:24:00
Speaker 5: To eight twenty two eighty seven. What person says, Matt, tell me why you don't think Trent Noah will play? I mean he could play. I just think he's a step behind the rest of the group. I mean, you know, I'm not saying it's not a massive step. I think he can. He will play at Kentucky. I'm just not sure if he will play this year. That's what I would say. A significant amount makes sense.

00:24:21
Speaker 3: You know, it's tough coming in a lot of times. You know, a new situations freshman guy. The one I'm surprised that he said there was Colin Chandler. I thought maybe he was maybe very athletic.

00:24:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I thought he was a great shooter, and he didn't make a lot, but also his form's not great, you know what I mean. Like so I think there's a ways to go for him. Maybe I'll be wrong, I mean, but like, I don't I'd be surprised. I had gone into that thinking that's our seventh eighth man. I don't think that's true. I think he'll be more like tenth man. Maybe he's got some hops. I think he can turn into something. It's probably I don't know coming back from his time off, how much time he'll need, but I see potential there in the long run. Same with Truent Noah, even though you know, I don't expect him to be playing significant minutes, there's there's something there for sure, Yeah, for sure, for sure. But the difference between them and Travis Perry is Travis Perry has something that he's already elite at, which is he does not miss, whereas those guys are fine shooters, but they miss Travis Perry does not miss.

00:25:23
Speaker 3: What do you think of Brandon Garrison?

00:25:24
Speaker 5: Haven't talked about great defensively? I mean, he and Lamont Butler kind of owned the thing defensively, and so was Amari Williams. All three of those guys good defensive players.

00:25:32
Speaker 6: Garrison made some good plays once they started going full speed later at two. That's another one I'm excited maybe about next year. Yeah, I think Mari Williams is gonna take up a lot of those minutes.

00:25:40
Speaker 5: Mary Williams is gonna play a lot, you know. I mean I thought there was a lot of people that could start. I kind of think the starting lineup is Mariy Williams, Braa, Butler, Robinson, Carr. That's your starting lineup. Just go ahead and pencil that in. That's who's starting. And then off the bench you'll we'll see Oa and Chrisa being kind of six and seven, Garrison eight. Then you're looking at like a Perry almanor nine to ten is kind of how I see it, and then maybe Chandler and Noah eleven twelve. That's just my guess as of today. Do you agree with that?

00:26:18
Speaker 6: I think Williams, car Butler, Robinson are locked, locked and pretty much good.

00:26:25
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I mean he made Robbie Brady very proud yesterday. Yeah, all right, who's up first, ship, We'll start with Nate. Nate, go ahead and Nate.

00:26:35
Speaker 10: Yeah. Man, I got a comment and then a question on the big news you guys were reporting on last week.

00:26:41
Speaker 9: Uh so comment.

00:26:43
Speaker 10: I know we talked a little bit about it yesterday, but I can't believe what I'm seeing here from these broken Louisville fans. I mean that that meaningless state of Louisville count.

00:26:55
Speaker 5: Running that knowledge goodness.

00:26:57
Speaker 10: And then he got Then you got Deputy dufe Is out there tweeting out prison photos of dude to her comment on the stadiums, you know, the people that are attending the games.

00:27:09
Speaker 3: How many people I mean, I mean, it's just completely.

00:27:11
Speaker 6: Unreal and they're broken.

00:27:13
Speaker 5: And then well, for the rest of the state. I'll let you do your other point in a second, but for the rest of the state, if you're not following, there is a level of Louisville fan brokenness that there shouldn't be when basketball hasn't even started yet. I mean, you know, part of the argument that has been their argument over the years is. We're just as passionate as fans as Kentucky. There may not be as many of us, but we're just as into it. Louis's the top ten basketball program, and in their minds they believe Louis is the top twenty football program. I agree with them, it's a top ten basketball program. Historically, I would never agree with them that it's top twenty football. But I don't think any and I've had conversations with Louisville media and friends about this. I am really surprised. When that program was cooking, the energy of the fans was very passionate, and it is not there for a team that has two new coaches. Basically, it should be good at football and in basketball again should be good. I am amazed at the lack of If you had told me they would get eighty eight hundred people to their Big Blue Madness and then have that crowd they had on Saturday, you know, beautiful weekend, I would have never imagined it. And so you know, the bag dad Bob's have to have something to say, and like one account the state of Louisville, I don't know who runs out. I'm sure they're a nice person. But they come out and they say, basically, our fan showing Saturday was unacceptable. Ryan, I don't think that was controversial. I think he was right, but he took a lot of criticism. And then he wrote essentially a brother's Kara Matsov link novel about what being a Louisville person, which was way over the top, melo dramatic. And they're having like a civil war Drew and the season just started in football and has not even started in basketball. I've wondered.

00:29:11
Speaker 6: He even asked on the football podcast to Raush and Luggan who live in Louisville are much closer to it than me, if they're like broken beyond repair. I like to make fun of Pat Kelsey, but if you know, that's a good hire, and I feel like he's done a good job of trying to put some excitement in that. If he can't get people to show up after the Kenny Payne era, Jeff brom who they all wanted to be the Louisville coach who's done pretty well, not great, but done pretty well, how will they get excited about it anything.

00:29:37
Speaker 5: I've said, Louisville's fan base is a party fan base. They want to go where the party is. And if that's true, right now, the party is not in Louisville, right, that's the way it seems.

00:29:46
Speaker 3: You know, you've met to coach Kelsey, a high energy guy, trying to innite some energy into that program. But the one I'm really shocked about is brom in the football program. That's your favorite son, you know, that's your the guy came down from the Mighty Seas to help save the football program.

00:30:02
Speaker 5: I could not believe walking around their campus that no one seemed to care about the game.

00:30:07
Speaker 3: Shocking.

00:30:08
Speaker 5: I mean reminded me when we went to Indiana and they were playing a basketball game and it didn't seem like anyone even was watching it. Yeah, that's how it felt here. What's your other point?

00:30:18
Speaker 10: Yeah, hey, but question on the big news you guys are reporting Matt and I'll take the answer off here. But did Cal end up getting his hog slobbered or his hog slabbery.

00:30:27
Speaker 5: Or you know, I don't know if they ended up getting that done or not. I appreciate the call. Usually when when a goal like that is set and you don't hear anything, that means it didn't happen.

00:30:36
Speaker 3: Happen.

00:30:37
Speaker 5: But they'll probably go ahead and slabber the hog anyway. Like, you don't announce we're gonna do this unless you're gonna do it. So I'd say there'll be a big slobber hog on there, and you know that'll be that. I mean, they had a big weekend too though. They won the game against Tennessee, so that helped. And you know they're playing they're playing a couple of exab games here very soon against big competition. I think they're playing Illinois and Kansas or ill something like that.

00:31:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, they're playing Kansas, right because we wondered when why didn't he do that here? Had these exhibition games that gets the top qualities.

00:31:11
Speaker 5: Well, he has to do more gimmicky stuff here there. And I'm not criticizing that. I actually think that's really smart to do. Is is. But you know, here, I think the theory was you can do anything and people will still care. I think he used that against us sometimes because rather than do things the fans would like, he just did what he wanted. But there he's gonna have to work to get crowds, and playing Kansas is is one way to do it. Who's next?

00:31:37
Speaker 1: Andy, Andy?

00:31:38
Speaker 5: Go ahead, Andy? If I'm nine. I can barely hear you. Andy, Bluetooth Bluetooth, Yeah, we don't do bluetooth. You know that, Andy O.

00:31:54
Speaker 8: I lucky show when I think you're a pretty good failer.

00:31:56
Speaker 10: But I believe you're a little at siley when Cale walks in with a hogs and beats us after you single hand to they running off.

00:32:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, I did not single handedly run him off. I mean that's that's Do you think I'm the only person in the state that thought they was? First of all, I didn't even ever say you should be fired. I said it would be best if both parties separated, which, by the way, is exactly what happened. But do you think I'm the only person in the state that felt that way?

00:32:23
Speaker 10: Well, your's the biggest one, do you know.

00:32:25
Speaker 5: That's that's just using my the strength of this show against me. My question for you is, do you think I'm the only one that thought there should be a change between Kentucky and caw Well? Did they? I can't hear you. You're breaking up, I said, the only minded one and the honest Hue just mad he would't come on the show. No, I was what happened in it. What happened in the NCAA Tournament last year. What what was the result?

00:32:57
Speaker 8: The question?

00:32:58
Speaker 5: We can now the media didn't play Oakland. Who played Oakland last year in the tournament.

00:33:04
Speaker 1: In the media.

00:33:05
Speaker 5: Okay, I appreciate the come. It was not me that caused Cal to miss the tournament in twenty twenty. It was not me who caused Kentucky to lose. Excuse me in twenty twenty one, twenty we didn't have a tournament. Not me that caused miss the tournament in twenty twenty one. Not me that caused CAL to lose in the second round to Kansas State in twenty twenty two, and have a team that fought each other the entire season. Not me who caused us to lose to Saint Peter's not me who caused us to lose to Oakland. None of those were me. I didn't have anything to do with any of that. It's not me who caused us to go zero to three against Gonzaga in the last few years. Not me who caused us to lose by twenty at home to South Carolina. It's not me who had us one in six in the last seven games in the Champions Classic. That's not me. And it's not me who refused to do my interviews with KSR. But with any media outity, I didn't have anything to do with any of that. And by the way, it's not me that ran off most people around the program that liked him because they couldn't be there anymore. That wasn't me. I'm not perfect, and there may have been times where we said something that maybe we shouldn't have said. I'll accept that, but it wasn't me. He did it to himself and all I did was say the answer. That's like getting mad when somebody says news. You don't like getting mad at the person who says it to you. So I wish cal the best. But if you don't think it's gonna be better Friday night at Rupperina, then it would have been if he returned. Then I don't know what to help, what to tell you in February. First, maybe we win, maybe we lose, but this program is going better for the future with the change, then it will to have if he would have been here, we'll be right back. Well done, Shannon. That's a good song pick. Sorry for the people on the podcast, they don't get to hear that. That's Shannon's so good at that.

00:35:11
Speaker 3: He is highly underrated for that kind of music play.

00:35:14
Speaker 5: He doesn't it, Shannon, I think you probably need to go back to putting the songs up so that people on the podcast know what it was. Okay, I I think you gotta do that, sure, because that way they they would know because that was it ain't Me Babe, which is perfect for that segment. But like unfortunately the podcast people.

00:35:30
Speaker 4: Johnny Cash is gonna sue us, so we can't have it in the podcast.

00:35:33
Speaker 5: I don't think Johnny himself will do it.

00:35:35
Speaker 3: No.

00:35:35
Speaker 5: This segment is sponsored by Pelican Technologies. If you have a problem with your IT, Pelican can solve it by helping your business get started and keep your business and trade sacred secret safe. You know you always hear about hacking. Oh yes, what does it mean to hack something?

00:35:50
Speaker 3: You break into somebody's personal information and what do you do with it? You could use it against them, like steal their financial records, still their identity.

00:35:58
Speaker 5: Now, how about if Pelican kept your business from having to worry about that?

00:36:01
Speaker 3: It'd be a great thing they should do for people.

00:36:03
Speaker 5: That's what they do for IT. Department Cybersecurity Solutions managed it services and more. Go to Pelicon to solve it. Visit pe l y con dot com, slash KSR one Person Rights, Matt, I don't know why you let that guy blame you. If he wants to say I was somebody who agreed with you as well, well I will tell you what not maybe not why him, but why A lot of people want to say it is that is what Cal says. I mean, that is what Cal says. The you know, he goes and he blames me for his problems here. He genuinely believes that I let a revolt that got him out. That's what he believes. I think it's absurd, but that is what he believes. And he says that, or at least he did. I don't know if he still does. I think he's probably transitioned to Arkansas. But he says that, and he said it all. He said it all last season. I was having a conversation with a couple of media rivers I hadn't seen in a long time yesterday and we were talking about that, and he has said that, he said it all year. So when people said when I said, like I was considering not doing this anymore, Ryan, I couldn't have another year where every time I met people, they'd be like, man, Cal sais you're trying to run him off? What's that about? You know? Ryan? You know I'm right about that.

00:37:29
Speaker 3: First of all, it was kind of an odd time for that call to come in A cal supporter call came in here during the football season.

00:37:35
Speaker 5: But you're right.

00:37:36
Speaker 3: I mean he said it many times last year. Media one media member has an agenda.

00:37:42
Speaker 5: You know, and in private, I was Nate, that's right.

00:37:46
Speaker 3: You're not fans, You're not real fans.

00:37:49
Speaker 5: I wasn't real fans. I mean literally, I was here before and I'll be here you know after. And that thinks not just because it made it stressful. I hated that position because I liked him. I still don't understand. I really don't. But what I have learned, and I sort of did this in Europe, I'm not letting people blame me for that. And if we come out this year and let's say they're great, and let's say we're bad, Drew, I will firmly go to my grave and say it wouldn't have happened here me too. Absolutely, it would not have happened here. Maybe it don't happen there. I'm skeptical, but it would not have happened here.

00:38:39
Speaker 6: He's gotten a recharge. There might be just to prove everybody in Kentucky at point. Who knows what his motivation is, but they're getting a different version.

00:38:49
Speaker 5: Do you see that picture of him. He's skinny, he's lost a lot of weight. He looks good. He might do press conferences this year. He looks good. There's a picture of him. I don't know how much. It was all like Mario does to some time, but he looked good, and I thought he's lost weight. And you know, it's the second wife kind of back on the dating market thing. I get it.

00:39:11
Speaker 3: And if he if he'd stayed here, we all know, it would have been just a lot of the same same stories, same situation, same ending.

00:39:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, Matt said this, but madness this coming Friday, it would have been awful. He would have done the speech, The scenes would have been empty. It would be I would just be waiting for another shot at the tournament for him to just try to redeem what can.

00:39:30
Speaker 5: You imagine what madness would have been like. It would have been awful because everybody would gone talk to me in Mark, right, who's next?

00:39:37
Speaker 1: Claude, Claude, go ahead, claud.

00:39:40
Speaker 8: Hey, good morning guys. I first have to say I am from Vergie, Kentucky. Of the Tyler Children song, I imagine you guys traveled.

00:39:48
Speaker 5: Of course. Yeah, that's gotta be awesome. One of his biggest songs has your town in it.

00:39:53
Speaker 8: Man, it's awesome. We do eleven. Of course, folks are very proud. But you know, I don't have you guys heard about the Virgie basketball history.

00:40:00
Speaker 5: You know about that? Of course? Yeah, Todd May up there lighting it up in the early to mid eighties.

00:40:06
Speaker 8: That's right. So here's the here's the connection to Middlesborough. So in Todd senior year, Virgie had sort of declared itself the King of the Mountains. And uh, there's a guy that's had a record store in Virgie, old fashioned record store, but he sold t shirts and hats, created a logo Virgie King of the Mountains. Well, Middlesbrough had a very good basketball team Todd May senior year and the out of the seventh grader the story we got was, hey, Middlesborough doesn't like you guys to call yourself the king of the mountains. They want to play virgin Let's see who really the king of the mountains are so.

00:40:38
Speaker 5: Little Middlesbrough, Virgie, Who's the king of the mountains?

00:40:42
Speaker 8: What happened so well, so Middlesborough came to Virgie Cambridge and we had we had a brand new gym. We had like twenty five hundred people that sold out and as a buddy of mine from Lynch would say, uh, Virgie stumped their guts out.

00:40:58
Speaker 5: But you know, yeah, of course you get to play it at your home court. What about if you if you had to come to uh what's the name of our gym? Uh? It was brothers. It was two brothers. Anyway, Okay, well listen, Virgie is it's a great history. I've been there. That's it. You gotta want it. That's what I always say about going back there, which is part of why I like that he picked that for his song. Thank you very much, sir. He's up that.

00:41:26
Speaker 1: Let's go to Garrett Garrett.

00:41:28
Speaker 5: What's up? Garrett Fusing brothers? Go ahead? That was their names? All right, go ahead.

00:41:37
Speaker 9: I just want to say about that Arkansas guy, that is just the goofiest thing that anybody could ever say. Sure, Matt has a loud voice, but uh, I've got a group chat with me and my my buddy's dad and him and were some of the most die hard fans you'll meet, and we were we were all fed up with this crap.

00:41:55
Speaker 5: So well, me and your group chat. There we go. We unfortunately we were the ones that did it. I appreciate it. Why are you all laughing at a great name?

00:42:05
Speaker 3: Jig and Ug Fuson That was their real name was and Ugg It was their real.

00:42:10
Speaker 5: Name, but they went by Egg and ug, and it was I G G and Ugg.

00:42:15
Speaker 3: You're making this hug?

00:42:16
Speaker 5: Are you taking hug? We'll take a break. O. K as Far is about to open. This is Kentucky Sports Radio eging out.
