And there's like a new Caso berl. I'm gonna try that this week, huh, because the burger's good and I like keso. It's a good combination. 00:01:14 Speaker 6: It is. 00:01:15 Speaker 2: You know, when you go to Chipotle, tell them you don't want keso they give him They look sad. They give you a thing like, well, why wouldn't you want keso? 00:01:23 Speaker 7: You just holding the ladle looking at you like you don't want this. 00:01:26 Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm getting to the point that the people at the restaurants I have good conversations with. Today was coming here, went through the McDonald's drive through to get my diet coke. Guy just looked at me and said something no one's ever said to me. He goes, you look like you have an important job. Oh wow, which I thought was very nice. I said I don't, but he was. And I said, why do you say that? And he goes, well, your car and he's like, you have a professional jacket on. 00:01:53 Speaker 3: You are kind of dressed up. 00:01:54 Speaker 2: It's still a hoodie though, yeah, it's just one that's not as loose so it doesn't look like. 00:01:58 Speaker 3: That kind of thing. Now, the hoodie in the sport code for his sports guy Dan. 00:02:02 Speaker 2: In the sports code, this is just a jack. It's supposed to get really cold, Yes it is. It's supposed to be like twelve this week Saturday. Saturday is the lowest ten, lowest ten. Yeah, well look we play a road game or no, yeah, next to on the roads. So yeah, all right, ef I'm nine twenty two eighty seven. I since we play tomorrow, I think I'm gonna do an ask anything Tuesday today. And so this is part of a general thought process. I had, uh this really more last week before we beat Mississippi State. I think the hardest time to do this show. I've always said the hardest time to do this show is early August because people want to talk about football, but there's nothing to say true genuinely, Like if you're ranking hardest times to do KSR, early August is the hardest. The second hardest time, and thankfully we haven't had a lot of these times over the year is when basketball is not doing well. There is this thought I think sometimes in the audience that what you know, radio shows want Kentucky or want their teams to do not do well because you get more calls. Now it is the case, you do get more calls when you're. 00:03:22 Speaker 3: Losing, especially in your postgame show. 00:03:24 Speaker 2: You do get more calls with losing. But to me, it doesn't make it an easier show because the goal of this show is to entertain. True, I do not believe this show is at its best when people are yelling. I think that's a common misconception. I think most of the people listening here do not want to just hear people complain on I don't. I also think we have an audience it's about fifty percent casual sports fans. They like it, but they're not like it's doesn't run their life. They definitely don't want to hear people complain. So when things are bad, you don't want to just sit and be negative. At the same time, if your topic is Kentucky basketball and things are negative, what are you supposed to do? So I've always found those times hard. How do you keep things lighthearted, Drew while also still acknowledging when things aren't going well? Right? 00:04:18 Speaker 7: Yeah, and our mood, just as fans, changes with the team, and it's so much more fun when it's rolling to just be look at this dunk, Look how good this person. 00:04:25 Speaker 2: I think people have forgotten because we've had like six years where the basketball team hasn't been great. What it was like the ten years before, where like every time we were just coming in here and talking trash about how awesome we were, et cetera. And then that led has led occasionally to a narrative of Oh the Kentuck KSR guys are so negative. Well, I mean, you know, what do you want? So? I was thinking going to the Mississippi State game. If we lose this game, I can't do two months of a show of everybody just being miserable. Yeah, so what are we gonna do? And I trying to think, Okay, how do we how do we handle this? During COVID, you remember we just tried to laugh about how bad we were and still get criticism about. Like we did food specials where I would give you how many points we lost off of the restaurant. I forgot about that. I actually thought Shannon was a pretty good deal. 00:05:20 Speaker 5: Yeah that mean it worked out well for everybody, You. 00:05:22 Speaker 2: Say, yeah, I mean it made people so mad. But like we were about to close the restaurant because people were not eating out, especially for a Kentucky game, which is when was coming out and risking getting COVID to watch us lose to Missouri. 00:05:41 Speaker 5: Exactly. 00:05:42 Speaker 2: So I was like, okay, well we're gonna lose anyway, however much we lose by you get that off your bill. And that made people really mad, and I was like, what do you want me to do? Close it? Would that make you happier? So uh, you know, so that's always a fight. So well, today we're going to have to talk about there is a little bad news. Yes, But I wanted to be and ask anything Tuesday because I'd like to do more than just go okay. One of the things I'm gonna do is talk about you me. 00:06:16 Speaker 3: Yes, you're looking at me. You're looking at me. I feel like I'm looking right to me. 00:06:20 Speaker 2: You took a position yesterday that has put you distinctly in the crank class. Absolutely your position about the reporter in Jacksonville. I went to eat. I went to eat at a restaurant last night. I did something I never do. They undercook the food. I'm not going to say which one. I had to send it back and the people were very sorry. They were very nice, and in trying to be sorry, I think they were trying to figure out how to make it up to me, Shannon, and they were just like man, Ryan was a jerk. To Ryan, Ryan was really a jerk. And it was about the porter in Jacksonville, right, that sweet little lady who said to Liam Cohen, can I make you some soup? Keep your head up, young man. I hope things are okay? And you were angry journalist guy. This has now become a national debate, not just about you, but in general. Yeah, there are people the general public is clearly on this lady's side, clearly, but journalists are universally on your side. Yes, which of course I think is highlighting why people hate journalists. Good point. So now you've had twenty four hours, Yes, you've now seen the lady. Yes, she was on TV. She was She looked sweet, right, she looked like she would cook you something for home, Kames. 00:07:47 Speaker 7: Lynn, What a sweet name? 00:07:48 Speaker 2: Her name is? Lynn? Have you ever known a Lynn you didn't like? Shannon? 00:07:52 Speaker 5: No, I bet she wouldn't undercook your food. 00:07:54 Speaker 2: Well, actually, Lynn Martin at the other radio station who told me I could I would never be able to be on the radio. 00:08:00 Speaker 3: Wow, what I missed on that one, didn't he? 00:08:03 Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean I'm sure he's a fine guy, but he's a negative land. But you've had twenty four hours. Have you changed your mind? Especially since the lady has also said that she's following in the tradition of black newspapers that go back to the Civil Wars. Yes, so now that she said that. 00:08:21 Speaker 5: It's not aging well for you, I know, are you going? 00:08:25 Speaker 2: Is there any part of you that wants to say no? Or are you standing firm in journal You've had journalists write you and take up for you. Yes, I have. 00:08:36 Speaker 3: I saw the video clip where she was sitting on the news desk and she looks like just the sweetest, nicest grandma, and she talks about the history of her job writing for this black newspaper. She said she always goes to the press box, but she's kind of talked into going to the news country, Like I got to feel like this her first time she's been to like a postgame news conference. 00:08:53 Speaker 2: Even worse, shitned, this lady has never gone to the news conference. And maybe part of the reason is angry old white man Ryan gets angry. 00:09:03 Speaker 5: At traditional journalist. 00:09:05 Speaker 2: Traditional journalist with his little his little piece of paper sticking out of his hat. 00:09:09 Speaker 7: He says, press we've been the first timers matter. They're not invited. It's hard stare at the time. 00:09:14 Speaker 2: What do you do? Look at you and they stare at you and they're like, get out of here, stinky. So now do you feel worse? 00:09:22 Speaker 3: I I remember your first one down at Tubby, and I'm like, who is this guy? You start asking really good, legitimate questions. You didn't say, Tubby, keep your head up, keep keep keep your head of young man. 00:09:32 Speaker 2: But I would have he thought about it. I thought about it. 00:09:35 Speaker 3: So yeah, I did get some other journalists who said she lost all credibility. You're supposed to be objective in that situation, and she was not and didn't have any. 00:09:43 Speaker 2: Credible you know that. I think that's bogus. 00:09:46 Speaker 3: It is because no one is objective, not anymore. 00:09:49 Speaker 2: No, not ever, No one is a hundred Everyone has opinions, and people's opinions come out in their right I would much prefer a journalist tell me what they opinion is, then act like to me they don't have an opinion. I can then judge like people will write me and go, this happens a lot, Matt, You're biased about politics, And my answer is always saying so are you right. I'm just acknowledging it. You know where I'm coming from, and you can agree or disagree, but at least you know where I'm coming from. I think it's much worse to have someone who acts objective and it's not. And so if this woman genuinely felt sorry for Liam Cohen, would you rather have said nothing? But I mean still felt sorry for him, And it came through in the writing. You feel sorry for people, You take up for people. 00:10:41 Speaker 3: Some of the hardest parts of this job when you go into a locker room and the dudes you're crying. It's a hard job. 00:10:46 Speaker 2: You can't act like your personal feelings don't affect what you say, Like your personal feelings towards Dane Key would of course affect how you would cover him. So why not just acknowledge that? And then people can you do on this radio show? Why can't she acknowledge she felt sorry for Liam Cole. 00:11:04 Speaker 3: I think she has the absolute right to do it. I just don't know if that was the right moment. In a post game. You do it pregame, you do it the practice, postgame news conference. 00:11:13 Speaker 2: You don't like that she did it in public? 00:11:16 Speaker 3: Probably, And here's another thing. I think if it was a guy, I think the fact that it's a female she gets I think a lot more support. I think it was a guy that did it. Yeah, I think people are like, that's your grandma. She's a sweet old lady. She can say that. If a guy said that, I wonder. 00:11:33 Speaker 2: Nice. He's playing the reverse discrimination. Poor white male just gets taken down by society. Shannon, I think he just keeps digging up. 00:11:44 Speaker 4: Right, when you acknowledge that this is just a bad take, you keep your head up, young man. 00:11:47 Speaker 5: You're gonna be good. 00:11:48 Speaker 3: You're gonna take you. 00:11:49 Speaker 5: You got a bright future in radio. You keep going. 00:11:51 Speaker 3: And I saw the video where Liam clums like biting his lip, kind of fighting back. 00:11:54 Speaker 2: Tears even nicer. Yeah, Liam needed that in that moment. 00:11:59 Speaker 7: I just understand what people wanted to feel. That fifteen seconds it took for he to say that. It did not take anyone's time. I see people saying we're on deadlines. 00:12:07 Speaker 8: Get on with the deadline. They say that press conference. People are urging because they have deadlines. Is that her comment? Her comment did not set anyone back. Also, it's twenty twenty six. Those newspaper deadlines are dated in themselves anyway. But everyone just needs to get over their seves with press conference. I'm the guy that asked what they had for breakfast that morning. When I'm doing I would ask the Lynn question anyway, and it's much more entertaining. And no journalist was hurt by that comment. 00:12:34 Speaker 2: But you. It is odd to me that you, who I would argue has maybe the biggest heart of of anyone, certainly on this show, but maybe of anyone. I know how you would be mister angry especially. I mean, would you would you say to that woman's face that she was wrong? Or would you crawl under the table and give her a hug and say keep your head up. 00:13:04 Speaker 3: I would knock you guys over to crawling on the table. And she looked like I once you see her, and she's just so sweet. 00:13:11 Speaker 2: It made me so did you have regrets? 00:13:13 Speaker 6: Yeah? 00:13:13 Speaker 2: You saw, then no doubt you're sticking to the position I think the the integrity of the postgame news conference, integrity of yeah, do. 00:13:21 Speaker 7: You hear so of these questions people ask, joke, are you really using the phrase integrity of the postgame news conference? 00:13:27 Speaker 3: It's got to be credible and you have to be objective, and I just don't think that was the right moment. 00:13:32 Speaker 2: I don't know, you agree that everyone has buys? Oh yeah, and do you agree that people who act like they don't are full of sure? Right? Yeah. If she is going to write a sympathetic column to Liam Cohen, wouldn't it be better just to say it? 00:13:53 Speaker 3: What quote did she get from Leam Colney's biting his lip and said thank you, thank. 00:13:56 Speaker 7: You, so thank you. She can put that at the end, thank me, thank you to the end, thank you. It's not her job to make up the quotes. She just writes down. 00:14:03 Speaker 5: And he said, she want to get thanked out of everybody there. 00:14:06 Speaker 2: She's also the only one that got on television nationally. Yeah, you know, name. 00:14:11 Speaker 7: One thing that came out of a press conference we now you never would have known, we learned more about Liam really has emotion. 00:14:17 Speaker 2: Yeah, we know he You know, the. 00:14:19 Speaker 7: People complaining can't name one thing from a Jacksonville press conference all year. They just want to care in this moment. 00:14:25 Speaker 2: So I just was thinking, rather than be depressed about the state of UK basketball, Shannon, just be mad at Ryan yeah today, right, just be mad at Ryan for not having a heart at this poor lady. 00:14:45 Speaker 3: I do appreciate her and like her. I just don't think that's the right moment for that after an NFL loss. 00:14:51 Speaker 2: And you're gonna have to tell linf I'm nine twenty two eighty seven. It is ask anything Tuesday. We obviously have some basketball news that is not positive, which we will discuss, and we will take the calls of the folks on here Matt Drew, Shannon and heartless Ryan Lemon, This KSR. Welcome back to you Sports Radio. Shannon. One person the text machines lit up today. Oh, I'm sure one person writes we had dark Pope after the technical Now, Maga Lemon, true. 00:15:28 Speaker 5: That Ryan's the guy that has I agree, of all. 00:15:30 Speaker 2: The people him being the one to have to take. But he is the one that considers himself a journalist. I don't know that any of the rest of us would consider ourselves journalists in that regard. I consider myself like an opinion person. Shannon probably doesn't even have it, Like and Drew, what would you consider yourself? 00:15:48 Speaker 7: I don't know. I'd paint my face at the press conference. If yeah, you're a fan, I're on a fan site. 00:15:53 Speaker 4: Yeah, I really even like saying I'm part of the media because I don't want to lump myself in with media. 00:15:57 Speaker 2: Yeah, but you are, you're literally doing me, you're by default. Yes, yes, uh one person right's mad. I hated when you ran the special where you got money off for losing, But now that I think about it, in hindsight, it was probably the right thing to do. See at the time, we took a lot of heat for that, But I would ask people put yourself in that, in your shoes. We have it. It's right. It's after COVID. This is the time we need people to come in. People are hesitant to come in and eat restaurants. Think about all restaurants around the state that closed. The one thing we have going for Ust is games, and then we're losing the games. So like, so you sit there and go, okay, well, if we do this special, if we win, everybody's gonna be happy because we. 00:16:38 Speaker 3: Want If we lose, then they get happy because you save some money. 00:16:43 Speaker 2: It's like people who bet against their team to hedge their emotions sharing it. 00:16:47 Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, your hedge in your beds. I would that was a great promotion. I don't care what anybody says. 00:16:51 Speaker 3: I kind of. 00:16:52 Speaker 2: Agree with you, but like people don't look at nuanced, they just get they just everything has to be black and not to it on something serious. But like we talked about what happened in Minnesota, to me, there's nuance in that, and people just take the nuance and just get rid of nuance and just yell at each other. And you know, I think there's nuance with that woman. I mean, I guess you could say it's not a journalistic question, but also you know she's trying to be nice and you should want that run. 00:17:24 Speaker 3: It wasn't even a question. 00:17:26 Speaker 2: You're not a question. Okay, So Shalen Lowe out for the year. We kind of saw this coming. I'm bummed. My favorite player on the team. I think, you know, the upside of the team is limited without him. It was maybe limited with him, but it's certainly limited without him. So I'm bummed, but probably drew the right decision. 00:17:48 Speaker 7: Yeah, And it's almost like I was prepared for it the first time. I honestly didn't expect him to give it a try. So it's like in my brain, we got a bonus four or five games out of him just the moment he initially injured it. I was prepared for the season to kind of go this way whenever it would actually happen, and now that he can still maybe preserve a year with a red shirt, kind of on the border there and just look at the direction of the season. It's the right move for him. Feel bad for him, and you know, just another problem in Kentucky's got address here. 00:18:14 Speaker 2: And I think that's the key. If he played one more game, rind, he loses his red shirt. Now he has a chance if he wants to play two more college seasons. If he played one more game, that wouldn't be the cat. So knowing that and knowing that he might get hurt one more game, I think it makes completely rational sense for him to do it. 00:18:33 Speaker 3: I give this kid a lot of respect. 00:18:35 Speaker 9: Man. 00:18:35 Speaker 3: He could have just tapped out in October when it first happened, but he tried to play. He wanted to play through a lot of pain to get back on the court. But yeah, you hate to say if it's a bad timing, but it's perfect timing. The most it can get him back for one more game, and one. 00:18:49 Speaker 2: More game he couldn't play, ye, Now, I mean, do we think he'll play here? 00:18:56 Speaker 3: It depends on see who Pope else brings in as. 00:18:58 Speaker 2: A point I think it'll be a p from what I've heard he'd like to I think it'll be kind of a Pope. And then, you know, I hope he does. I think he's good, and I think he can be really good for Kentucky. 00:19:10 Speaker 3: Sure. 00:19:11 Speaker 2: I also think now without him, the team has to play differently and maybe that'll maybe they'll find some success with it. They cannot play a style that maybe they shouldn't have been playing to begin with. But that sort of isolation, you know, they're gonna have to go back to what Pope does because they have no chance of winning. What worries me is teams are gonna start picking us up right as soon as we cross half court because we don't have a point guard. So like they're gonna they're gonna defenses are gonna pressure us, and we're gonna have to find a way to handle it. 00:19:45 Speaker 7: And my biggest concern was since Jasper Johnson committed, I worried about him as a freshman in SEC play, and it's almost like he didn't get the build up in the non conference to get ready. He didn't get many minutes and now it's like, all gonna have to here's the sec and I just don't know that he's ready for that grind, especially with the physicality and having to play defense. And he didn't get the practice against the three hundredth RANC team that he needed, Which. 00:20:06 Speaker 2: Gets me to a question. Does Ryan think he's unbiased when it comes to Jasper Johnson. 00:20:11 Speaker 3: I've said Jasper shoots some bad shots once every once in a while. 00:20:15 Speaker 2: I mean, are you unbiased in your opinion that he should play. 00:20:18 Speaker 3: I wanted to convinced he should be playing more, But. 00:20:21 Speaker 2: Is that unbiased just because you've known him his whole long. 00:20:23 Speaker 3: I'm sure it plays into it that I've known him since he was a little kid. But I just you look at the they tried the Colin Chandler experimented point guard didn't work, Denzel Aberdeen doesn't really work. Jasper's your guy. Jasper Still, I think he's second on the team in three point percentage. People think he's a bad shoot, He's second on the team in three point percentage. He's like one of the best assist to turnover ratio we got. 00:20:42 Speaker 2: I completely agree with you, but I think that opinion it's better to know that your opinion because we know your history and then people can judge. Sure. That's that's that is my only point. And I think you should get Lynn a sissy cake. By the way, I've been eating those orange Too cakes. They're so good. 00:21:02 Speaker 3: Did you take the whole box that she brought? 00:21:03 Speaker 2: I don't say whole box. You ate an entire box yourself. 00:21:07 Speaker 3: I did not, Not true. He saved you some blueberry big blueberry bread. They said, some big blueberry bread. I say that I've got you. 00:21:14 Speaker 2: Actually, what I did is I saved you one. Thank you. Right now, I have a cake for you. Thank you. They gave us two boxes. Ryan ate one entire box. He was hungry in one night, brought it to us, and I've got one for you. Thank you. But they're very very good. Joey, go ahead, joe. 00:21:34 Speaker 9: Uh yeah, guys, I was calling about to recruiting on Pope's in like if Jay and my is so bad? Al is will Stein getting all these I. 00:21:42 Speaker 2: Feel like I've answered this, Joey. I feel like I've answered this question, do you probably thirty times? I'm glad to answer it again. But I've answered the difference between football and basketball thirty times. It's very simple whether and I don't know if the jail my thing is gonna affect Pope or if it's Pope's fault. We'll see. But football is different because football can sign almost all of their players with revshare because they get seventeen million dollars of REV share. Basketball is getting like four. So for basketball to get a team that's gonna cost them fifteen million dollars, they have to have a lot of nil, which is where the JMI thing comes in. For football, they're able to sign almost their entire roster except maybe one or two guys, just with the rev share. So because of that, our ability to get a lot of nil or not doesn't really matter because football has so much more money to give on revshare. Does that make sense? 00:22:47 Speaker 9: Yeah, I got you. 00:22:48 Speaker 2: I appreciate I appreciate the call. I'm not saying that like anybody's to blame for basketball except Pope. But they are two completely different situations and people just need to know that when they're evaluating it. We'll take a break and be right back. It's KSR. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. 00:23:07 Speaker 7: He'll make them pay now. 00:23:08 Speaker 4: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:11 Speaker 5: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:13 Speaker 2: Walker back Tukey Sports Radio. If I'm nine two twenty two eighty seven, what person rights? Matt on ask anything Wednesday? Go on record without low Do we make the NCAA tournament? All four of you? Shannon? Yes? Ryan? No? What is happened? Yeah? 00:23:29 Speaker 5: Who are you? True negativity? 00:23:31 Speaker 7: I'll say they sneak in. 00:23:32 Speaker 2: I'm saying yes. So once again, you're What has happened to you? You were always mister positive? What? What? What has happened? Did did something happen over New Year's I think it? 00:23:45 Speaker 3: I just I don't like this team. I just don't think they're very good. I don't I don't. 00:23:52 Speaker 4: I mean, now that's even worse, shann He doesn't even like the team. 00:23:56 Speaker 2: I mean You've gone from Okay, they may not make the tournament to you don't like the team? 00:24:00 Speaker 6: How do you? 00:24:00 Speaker 2: Who? What? What don't you like? You like Jasper, you like Malachi, you like Noah, like Chandler, like oh Way, you watch two of the players grow up? Yes? What what don't you like? I just don't think you don't like Mark Pope, the guy used to do television with. 00:24:17 Speaker 3: I just don't think this team is constructed very well, and I just don't like the way they play. I just see. 00:24:25 Speaker 2: I'm never gonna say I don't like a team. I mean, my least favorite Kentucky team to watch was probably the COVID team. But I had a lot of sympathy for BJ Boston, and I liked Davon Mintz. He was on that team. 00:24:39 Speaker 6: Right. 00:24:40 Speaker 7: We're all going through it too, you know. 00:24:44 Speaker 2: But even then, I wouldn't have said I don't like the team. 00:24:49 Speaker 3: I'm not fond of them. 00:24:53 Speaker 2: Some pr this is really an unbelievable, an unbelievable stretch that of Ryan Lemondy. What do you think about Vince and Pete Knockta What happened Pete Knocta? We get a commitment from an offensive lineman at Ohio State. Nocta was at Louisville. Knocta goes and digs up an old Vince quote where he said, basically, I own Ohio and he just retweets it, no comment, just retweets it a couple of years old. A couple of years old, which means he was sitting on that one. I think he was. You think that was a good move by. 00:26:02 Speaker 7: Knocked I loved it, just a simple retweet. He didn't say anything. He might have even accidentally hit the retweet button. 00:26:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, you think, okay? So then he responds. Vince responds, and what does he say? Uh no, I I read I write Pete knocked it with a little trash talk. Shannon Vince responds, Lol, this is so funny. Little Pete finally getting some confidence.
