00:00:01 Speaker 1: Charge about. 00:00:04 Speaker 2: What did you think when you saw the news ten and twenty seven or ten and seventeen, I should say at the time, twenty seven games in the Red Sox say no thanks to Alex Korra, who wasn't even halfway through his current contract. And then they asked a number of coaches that were kind of on his side, his corner, his guys, and they kept their drive Line team, which is a number of the coaches. Kyle Body, who was the originator of drive Line, works for the team. And then they've got some pitching guys. Andrew Bailey's still there the whole deal. So there's been a clear cut separation here where aj Breslow said, Hey, I'm going to keep my data guys for pitching and I'm going to get rid of the rest. 00:00:44 Speaker 3: Basically, the whole thing is, I think we've talked about this four. If you work for drive Line at drive Line anytime, if you've been to drive Line, if you've been around drive Line, if you've been in the neighborhood, area, code, county, state of drive Line, and they will just hire you as a coach and keep you as a coach forever, because apparently you know more than a lot of people. That's what I'm starting to figure out about this Driveline thing is that if you're just in the area, like you don't even have to I don't even I mean, you know these guys. These people go there for like a half a year, and like major League coach, he was at drive Line for half a year. It's it's crazy to me some of the names on this list. I mean Alex Scorer first of all, talk to anybody that's played for him. They love the guy. I mean, I've been around him a lot, He's been on our show. I love talking to baseball. I was I was shocked. I was with a bunch of Boston people and they were like what they were like what you know in their Boston accents. But I mean, the Hudson third base coach doesn't make any sense to what did he do? He scored too many runs? He'd only score runs when they give him a chance. Jason Vertek, were you assigned in the organ? 00:01:54 Speaker 4: Like what are we doing? 00:01:55 Speaker 3: But Jason Vertec, I mean, I'm sure he's probably on Alex corside because the deal is Alex cor pushback on something and we had heard about this before. He clearly pushed back on whatever it was that they were saying he needed to do. Whether it was analytics, I don't know because I'm not. 00:02:10 Speaker 4: In the room. 00:02:11 Speaker 3: This is a shocker to me because Alex core also has seven and a half this year and seven and a half next year left on his deal, so they're paying him what I'm twenty fifteen, that's fifteen about eleven million dollars, twelve million dollars To not be the manager to an organization that wouldn't go out and try to get the right pieces to fit, wouldn't give Alex Pragman. 00:02:33 Speaker 4: A no trade clause, I don't know. It's shocking to me. And I listen. 00:02:37 Speaker 3: I played with Craig Breslow. I like Craig Breslow. He can't get Craig Breslow to come on the show, though, which is strange. 00:02:43 Speaker 4: But I don't know. 00:02:45 Speaker 3: I mean, I've had this conversation with a million people in my life, and I'm sure christ has had it too. 00:02:50 Speaker 4: I get analytics, I understand analytics. I understand the importance of analytics. 00:02:55 Speaker 3: Okay, but at some point you have to have people that can tell your play how to do the analytics on the field, and there also has to be something in the organization in the dugout. And this is the one thing that Philly's got in trouble with, you know, Casiano said it. You have to have somebody that the players can go to on this team and then in the dugout and say, hey, how do you how am I supposed to react to? I got to face the closer in the ninth inning with the game online and the. 00:03:21 Speaker 4: Guy, I'm sorry, the guy from drive Line. 00:03:22 Speaker 3: He might be able to tell you the perfect swing path on the perfect pitch and just exactly how to swing, But when the pressure ramps up and the crowd gets going crazy and you're facing I don't know who's the best closer in base Mason Miller right now, how in the heck do I get a hit off of them? And the driveling guy can't tell you how to control your heartbeat and all that stuff because they've never done it. 00:03:43 Speaker 4: And that's on a knock on those guys. 00:03:44 Speaker 3: They have their role, but you have to have a mix and I think Alex Corr was one of the best guys I've ever seen at mixing the analytics and with the players and having communication with the players. I know, Jason Veritek was awesome. I mean I played against him forever. I've known him forever. He's awesome guy to have around. Ramon Vasquez, I. 00:04:02 Speaker 4: Mean I've always had great relationship with him. I don't know, it was just surprising. I don't know. 00:04:07 Speaker 3: I'm shocked by this. Hey, good luck, Alex. I love you and I'm glad that you're happy. 00:04:17 Speaker 4: I think it's really just I. 00:04:19 Speaker 5: Mean, aren't we supposed to make the decisions for the big league team based on what's happening on the field. Yeah, okay, they're eleven seventeen now that say, you know the season's not going very well. But when you make decisions with coaches based on what's happening on the field, then, to me, I think there was a lot of proof in the pudding. There was a lot of the fact that Honey, Kyle Hudson, guy played with back I think in twenty eleven or twelve, has done a great job with base running, outfield defense. There's a lot of goal that he's worked with out there Veritech. I think his resume speaks for itself. Uh and Alice cor like you said, Ramona Vasquez, different guys are getting fired that it feels like less of a baseball move and more of a well, this isn't the type of. 00:05:15 Speaker 4: Culture that we want. 00:05:17 Speaker 5: I don't know anything about the culture that they have, but I'm saying that the front office is setting there. They've cleared from last year when they got rid of one of the better hitters in the game, Raffie Devers. They're saying, our way is better than anything that you guys know. 00:05:35 Speaker 4: We are. 00:05:36 Speaker 5: We are trumping anything that the people on the field know about what success is going to look like in Boston, whether that's front office, whether that's ownership telling front office to do it this way. And it was it culminated in the fact that in their meeting they were told not to ask questions. They were not they were told not to second guess it, they were told not to like, you guys, go play, don't worry about the decisions that we make. And that does not put a very peachy keen like, hey, I want to go and play there type of situation. Bregman's over in Chicago, going who dodge the bullet on that one? We love our Dogabella, who's really just account's cushion in our house. 00:06:22 Speaker 1: And you do anything for her. 00:06:24 Speaker 2: A quick message from today's sponsor, the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program. I mean, when you see Trevor Story and some of the other players saying some of the things they said about as far as UH support, I guess you would say for AC And then they have a meeting and they're not allowed to ask questions and the man and Breslo speaks, but John Henry and Sam Kennedy don't speak in this meeting. Listen, I've been a part I don't know crouches, but I was there when Freddy Gonzalez got fired and uh Snicker. 00:08:04 Speaker 4: Took over and it was awkward as hell. 00:08:06 Speaker 3: And it happened, you know, in the morning after a game, and you just and everyone's like, well, who's the new manager. Everyone's like texting each other, who is it? 00:08:15 Speaker 4: Who? We don't know? 00:08:16 Speaker 1: Is it? 00:08:16 Speaker 3: You know, we thought it was gonna be Terry Pendleton or Readie Perez. We're like, who's the manager? Who's the manager? And they're like, oh, it's Snit. And I didn't know Snitt really at all. And by the way, Sticker grats on the Brace Hall of Fame. Sorry a little off topic, but it's just as that first day is like awkward as hell. And I know they said, oh a lot of these players knew the new managers. 00:08:37 Speaker 4: But like you know, when you see quotes like this from Trevor's story. 00:08:41 Speaker 1: The story doesn't say anything. 00:08:42 Speaker 4: He never talks. I don't know. This whole thing is crazy to me. I don't know. I mean, listen, I text Alex. I did text Alex. 00:08:55 Speaker 3: After it happened, and he, you know, he responded with I'm happy tweet. 00:08:59 Speaker 4: I'm like, or texting, come on, dude, Like. 00:09:01 Speaker 1: I think he is happy. 00:09:02 Speaker 4: I think he is too, but it's just funny that he texted everybody. 00:09:05 Speaker 3: Like I saw Ozzie Gean last night. Yeah, and I talked to Ozzy about it. He's like, he texted me, he texted him, and he text me back, I'm happy. 00:09:11 Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, I get that, you know, but I don't know. I don't know. I just I don't know how this makes sense. 00:09:18 Speaker 3: And the thing to me and I'm gonna and what we've seen this a lot from a lot of different organizations now is the GM. So I want to hire people that will not push back on anything of their agenda that they want to have. Okay, And I'm not saying that's what Chad Tracy's gonna be. But Chad Tracy ain't going in there and fighting for a certain line of He's like, I'm a big league manager. 00:09:39 Speaker 1: Look at me go. 00:09:40 Speaker 4: If we do good, I could keep this job for a long time. That's to me. 00:09:45 Speaker 3: There had to be pushed and they in these gms want somebody that won't push back. 00:09:49 Speaker 5: Or how about Andrew Bailey keeps his job. And I'm not into like, hey, fire more people, but the fact that if it was on field performance, Andrew Bayley's staff is bottom third in the league and he has Crochet making thirty million, Suarez making twenty seven, Sonny Gray making thirty five, I think be Beyo's like at like fourteen or fifteen million, Like if it was clearly okay field performance and not oh who are you buddies with? Who's your buddy? Oh your buddies with him? Take a walk? Oh your buddies with me? You can stay Like to me, there has to like there has to have been something that happened and it came to a head, And what the instant instance was I don't know, because because Core has taken a lot of flak for not having a conversation with Raffi Devers before they brought in Alex Bregman. I think we'll find out more stuff, but the fact that Raffi was upset, you know, like, was that Alex Or was that the front office telling Alex you got to you gotta take the blame. And I really think that the lack of feel for what the clubhouse needs was displayed in this decision. Based on Carrott, Whitlock's response, Roman Anthony's response, Trevor Story's response, different other guys that I conversated with, response like, it's a probably a case of egos, and ultimately the boss makes the decision, and if he's not there to answer questions or isn't it willing to answer questions with the players on the field. 00:11:37 Speaker 4: To me, I think this is. 00:11:38 Speaker 5: Something that will drag out and will pull the entire organization and the team down. But they won two games since, so maybe it's working out. 00:11:47 Speaker 4: Well. 00:11:48 Speaker 1: No, they've won one game since. 00:11:50 Speaker 5: I'm sorry, they won seventeen to one. The day that he got fired. 00:11:53 Speaker 2: Core was still there, which is also crazy. They had already planned it. It was pre planned. You got John Henry come in, every the whole Brass is coming to do the axing, and it's just hilarious that they win seventeen to one. 00:12:04 Speaker 1: Crochet looked kind of back rebounded, and then they're like see ya, hey go seeya. 00:12:11 Speaker 2: And we don't like the offense. I mean, hey, the offense has not been good and there's not enough power. But that's a roster construction thing, just to give you an idea. Ecuse, of course it's not. 00:12:20 Speaker 4: That's not the third base coach's fault. 00:12:22 Speaker 2: No, I mean, this team was not constructed properly. Craig Breslow is running the front office, and according to the Red Sox, it was his decision if he's going to go down, because you know he'll be next if the Red Sox don't make the playoffs, then he's going to go down with his guys. This is why so many executives say no to even interviewing for that job, because Craig Breslow might take this job and then never be leading a front office again. It could make you look bad and you usually don't get a lot of time to do this. You come in, it's kind of a mess, and then of course you get tons of rumors and as Ken rosendaland fair Territory said scapegoats, like they lead the league in scapegoats and those. 00:13:01 Speaker 1: Kinds of things. 00:13:02 Speaker 2: Just to give you an idea of what some of the quotes were from players that were alluding to. Trevor Story said, if this shows us anything, it's we're going to play baseball and that's it. We don't make decisions, We don't have any input on that. Garrett Whitlock said, they made it very clear, we get paid to play baseball. We need to just focus on playing baseball. So that's where we're at. So it sounded like the meeting was shut up, play better. We don't care what you have to say, but we love you and you're the team. It's about the players. Trevor Story also said Cora and others were some of the best coaches in the world, and he felt like they didn't get a fair shot. I'm going to take you to a story from one of the Red Sox writers. We're going to talk to some others later about it that write about the Red Sox, but Julian McWilliams writes the story for CBS, and he essentially said that the front office felt as if the development wasn't going well and they were butting heads on decision making. For example, this is the one that drove me nuts. David Hamilton was part of the trade with the Brewers, right, and the front office really liked him and some of his metrics. The coaching staff felt like his baseball eye awareness, IQ feel for the game wasn't there to get regular pt and be a big impact player at that moment. So they're like, Okay, it's not working, we're gonna trade him. And I guess he had a good series against the Red Sox and they're like, how come players go elsewhere and they play better? And if this is in the story and CBS right and Julian McWilliams, I know him for years. He's very good reporter. He's probably taking this from someone inside the organization. I'm like, hold up, Steve Hamilton playing well this year. He's got a seventy five OPS plus a six h five ops and eighty played appearances playing part time for the Brewers. You're blaming the Red Sox on not making him a star. He's not a start supposed. 00:14:47 Speaker 4: To be a star. 00:14:48 Speaker 1: Hold up involved in that trade. 00:14:50 Speaker 4: He made the trade. 00:14:50 Speaker 1: Caleb durban Wait who else is in that trade? 00:14:53 Speaker 4: Kyle Harrison the pitcher's well. 00:14:56 Speaker 2: How's the pitching, how's the pitching brands doing? And feeling about Kyle Harrison looking like a freaking stud right now? I would I would send that right back, and that that might have been what happened. Corean Company might have been like, you're we were right on that one, just like Also, Trevor Story had a nice bounce back year. Front office hated him. That's probably why Story is talking about this. There was a lot of dissension. He shouldn't be playing every day, blah blah blah. Twenty five homers, ninety six RBIs this year not playing great. Neither is anyone on their offense. 00:15:25 Speaker 4: So it's twenty five games. Some of the. 00:15:27 Speaker 2: Debates though that we're going down according to the story, and I believe this story. But that's why I'm like, wait, hold up, you want to you want to do a little tit for tat on development, I'd be like, cool, Hamilton's. 00:15:37 Speaker 1: Not doing much yet. 00:15:38 Speaker 2: How's Rob Refsnyder doing halfway out the league now making seven million bucks to be one of the best platoon players. 00:15:43 Speaker 1: We developed him, Durant, We developed him. They've done plenty. I just don't even understand. 00:15:47 Speaker 3: No, that shouldn't happen at the big league level, and I mean it does with the ref Snyder. 00:15:51 Speaker 1: It does because he was a big league player. Ye, but there's you're saying minor leaguers though when. 00:15:56 Speaker 3: They get there, they should mostly be developed. But the pitching, You're right, David Hamilton was never going to be a star. 00:16:01 Speaker 4: He was. He could barely get on. 00:16:03 Speaker 3: The field there for a while for the Red Sox, so they're worried about getting rid of him. 00:16:07 Speaker 1: Yeah, there that was the report. 00:16:10 Speaker 3: How about Craig Breslo traded him and Harrison for Caleb Durwan. How about that one? 00:16:17 Speaker 1: Well that's not cherry pickage. 00:16:19 Speaker 4: Ah, Okay, then find kidding. 00:16:21 Speaker 1: I mean, what are we doing? 00:16:22 Speaker 4: I mean the Crochet traded worked out last year. 00:16:25 Speaker 2: For him, worked out great. And that's probably one that there. We brought Croche over and out. 00:16:33 Speaker 1: Well. 00:16:33 Speaker 4: The Brewers like it, the Devs trade, the Brewers like it. 00:16:40 Speaker 2: Yeah, Like Kyle Harrison is also playing like crap it again. I think he'll he'll figure it out. I just don't get some of the dissension there, but that was there. That's just giving you a taste of what was happening, and you're not going to get much information. At some point, hopefully Cora talks and then you a more info on what was happening. But the real key here, guys, is that this team just doesn't hold on to managers in front office types. It's just part of their mo So I will say to finish this off. When I saw the news on Saturday, I was like, yeah, that makes sense. 00:17:16 Speaker 4: It doesn't make They turned into something pretty good. He's good, Roman, Anthony's pretty good. 00:17:22 Speaker 1: He was in tears this weekend. That guided the coaching staff. 00:17:25 Speaker 3: I'm sure he was because he was the guy that they were, the guys that had confidence in him and stuck him out there to win a gold Glove and become a star for Venezuela. I mean, Jared Duran, he's been up and down, but I mean he did something. I mean, I'm just looking at the list here. 00:17:39 Speaker 2: He was another guy in tears this weekend. I mean, the players are distraught, so we'll see what happens. 00:17:47 Speaker 3: Oh man, I'm just I don't know, I don't know what I don't I don't know, I don't get it. 00:17:51 Speaker 5: I have more questions that ask oh, No, I was just gonna say. Somebody who knows the Red Sox organization pretty well said the drive line if it's happening in Boston, like it's just a continue It was a great line, I mean a great word drive linification. And they're just continuing to do it. They're just they're cutting out, they're trimming out what it is that baseball guys need to do to connect with the players on the field. 00:18:21 Speaker 2: The Angels designated Jordan Romano for assignment. Also Logan o'happi hits the shelf fractured wrist for him. So tough little twenty four hours Kratz as they suffered a comeback loss against the Royals. They had a rough weekend and our Halo Territory show was pretty critical of the way that the front office has thought about bullpen construction over the years. They have pretty consistently not been able to put a great bullpen together. If you look at the past whatever six seven years of this current you know, Perimanation and Company group in there. So your thoughts on where the Angels are at. Do you feel like, after a nice start and try out looking like an MVP, things are looking shaky. 00:19:04 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you never want to lose one of your I get it. He's not the only catcher with Darneault there too, But to me, Logan's the starting catcher. But as far as the roster or bullpen construction, let's say they had hit the bullpen construction like nailed. 00:19:20 Speaker 4: It on the head. 00:19:21 Speaker 5: They don't bring in guys and start in the starting pitching role that are gonna support that bullpen. They don't bring in guys that are gonna say, okay, we have you know, we have somebody that's gonna be able to eat innings. Jose Soriano is looking like he could be a cy Young winner this year, like he is dealing. I get that. But part of constructing a good bullpen is, yes, you have to try to hit on some of the Jordan Romanos in the sense that he had a bad year last year and they're like, okay, you know, we'll try it out, but you can't have a whole bullpen. We'll try it out, guys. 00:19:59 Speaker 2: Hey, we mentioned this earlier. Kyle Harrison is pitching really well for Milwaukee. Finest game of his young career for the Brewers. Bob Night got with this tweet six innings, one hit, twelve punchouts in a five to nothing win on Sunday for the Brewers to avoid a sweep. The Pirates played him well in the first couple, but Harrison in five starts as a two to two eight era Milwaukee had a great game pitching staff wise. Eighteen punchouts just allowed two hits from a Pittsburgh team that was feisty against them earlier in this series. 00:20:30 Speaker 1: Kyle Irrison looks really good. 00:20:31 Speaker 2: I mean, he was one of the upper echelon pitching prospects in the sport, and many people in fantasy Baseball picked him up before the season started, thinking if this guy's ever going to catch fire, it might be with Milwaukee. They've done this really often lately with starters. 00:20:48 Speaker 4: It just adds to the point about development. 00:20:52 Speaker 1: They're doing it better than his teams. 00:20:54 Speaker 4: Right. 00:20:55 Speaker 3: If I'm a team, wouldn't you want to hire wouldn't Hooky be high on your list as a pitching guy from. 00:21:01 Speaker 1: Whatever they're doing, Bruce pitching coach Chris hook. 00:21:04 Speaker 3: Yeah, beyond teams, I don't know. I mean, they do something better than whether it's him, whether it's the system, whether it's Matt Arnold, whether it's Pat Murphy, whether it's their bullp I don't know who they're bullpen coaches. Maybe it's their bullpen catcher. I don't know who it is. 00:21:20 Speaker 5: Or it's all of them, or it's all about together because all of them say, hey, you know what, what is it that makes you really good? 00:21:28 Speaker 4: Let's delve into that. 00:21:30 Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Phillies for a hot second. Do we think that Copper, Rob Thompson or I mean, we can talk about the Mets too, for these two minutes, Carlos Mendoza are going to make it through the week, either of them. Do we think Alex Cora might replace one of them? Things are getting wild really early in the season. 00:21:48 Speaker 4: I'm confused by the Phillies Crotchy. I just don't. 00:21:52 Speaker 3: I didn't see this coming. I didn't see this coming at all. And again it's not Topper's fault, I mean not Topers. Change hasn't changed for what he did the last few years, and he took them. 00:22:02 Speaker 4: Deep been the playoffs. In the playoffs, I don't know. 00:22:05 Speaker 5: The Philly one is the one that to me is like whoa And the last the last time this happened, Topper took over for Joe Girardi. I thought Joe Girardi was a really good manager. The team turned it around. My feeling is Kevin Long has always kind of been his own entity, his own like, well, he does it this way. The organization, even baseball in general, does it a certain way, and he always does it his way. For some reason, I'm leaning towards I think k Long possibly gets fired, whether it's his fault or not. Like, these are some big league dudes. You got to get the most out of them. And in Philly, what you're hearing is well, Ever since the Diamondbacks changed their philosophy, he wasn't able to get the hitters to change their. 00:22:51 Speaker 2: Like Pump the Brakes, buying glasses for a long period of time was not ideal styles that looked like they were from the stone, overpriced, confusing. 00:23:03 Speaker 1: Enter the solution Warby Parker. 00:23:05 Speaker 2: And it's not just the prescription glasses that I'm wearing that I love, krats. 00:23:09 Speaker 1: What else can you get to. 00:23:11 Speaker 4: One stop shop? 00:23:12 Speaker 5: Sunglasses, contacts, prescription glasses, everything you need in one spot. 00:23:17 Speaker 4: Why would you go anywhere else? 00:23:18 Speaker 2: Even I exams. Do we think that Roki Sasaki maybe found something over the week? And I know he still gave up a few homers and the fastball command is not the sharpest, but the splitter looked really damn good. You had what five miles an hour of splitter velocity. He had the idea to change the grip, the Dodgers helped him, and then boom, there's your difference from April fifth to yesterday. 00:24:28 Speaker 1: I'll let you guys explain. Why are you giving me a look? 00:24:31 Speaker 3: You just switched the seams. It looks like, I mean, I don't understand what's different there. I mean, yeah, you switch the seams. Maybe, well they. 00:24:41 Speaker 4: Call that orientation. 00:24:43 Speaker 5: Basically, it's he's saying he's throwing it from the the parallel lines, and then he's and then he was throwing it with a horseshoe, which to me, like, it's not just about velocity, it's not just about it's the it's about results. Like plenty of people tinker with things. To me, this is a prime case of oh, see he changed something. Oh everybody's enamored. 00:25:11 Speaker 4: With this guy. 00:25:12 Speaker 5: Let's just he's still what was his stat line? I just pulled it up. Still gave up seven hits. He had one walk, that's good, you know, gave up three dingers, Like the name of the game is not giving up runs. 00:25:28 Speaker 4: I'm not sure. 00:25:30 Speaker 5: I'm not sure what why we made such a big deal out of him changing his splitter. He still didn't have a grade outing in my opinion, they. 00:25:39 Speaker 2: Like to say, oh we saw progress, right, one walk and a more effective splitter by pitch grading, it's. 00:25:48 Speaker 1: Just how the game is evaluated these days. 00:25:52 Speaker 5: What pitch grading? Hey, ja, what did you tell a pitcher when he was like, hey, was that a good pitch? After he just gave up a no, no. 00:26:03 Speaker 4: And you got a guy out, and you got a guy out, he still gave listen. 00:26:07 Speaker 3: He went five innings, seven hits, three homers. It's not like he went out and went nine shutty. I mean Sean Berg again yesterday went seven and a third, three hits, no runs. That's a good that's good pitch. What'd you call it? 00:26:21 Speaker 4: Grade? Pitch grading? Yeah? 00:26:22 Speaker 3: You know what's not good pitch grading? Five innings? How many pitches you throw? One hundred pitches? One hundred pitches and five innings. You know what that's not that's bad pitch grading because it's too many pitches, it's too many homers. He still has a six and a half vra well six three five, sorry, rounding up. 00:26:41 Speaker 5: Ninety nine pitches and a strike eight one, Like come on, like you could change all you want. What is the what is the base What is the base level? For big league pitchers? The base level is you gotta throw strikes and you gotta get through. For starters, you got to get through innings. And I think Rokie is in the perfect spot where he is in a Dodgers organization where they have a lot of pitching, and he's able to figure this out. In the big leagues, he's gonna have to figure it out at some point. He's gonna have to figure it out. And pitch orientation, pitch grading based on the edgatronic camera and track man and hawke guy and all that stuff. The hitters will let you know if the pitch is really good. The hitters will let you know. You throw it harder. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a better pitch, Like if it gets more outs, that is the better pitch. Like if the gyro slider doesn't work for somebody, you can't just keep throwing it even though even though oh, well you know this says pitch profile says it's gonna be good. Well, you know what, your next says, it's not because you keep going like this. 00:27:45 Speaker 4: Wock. Oh man? 00:27:47 Speaker 1: What? 00:27:48 Speaker 4: Oh man? You know what? 00:27:49 Speaker 5: Like three home runs is a lot of hard hit baseballs. And I think maybe maybe he can grow from this pitch. Has he developed that third pitch that they want him to develop in spring training and that most pitchers get to get send down the triple A to figure out has he developed it? 00:28:04 Speaker 4: I don't know. 00:28:05 Speaker 5: Results haven't shown it yet, but he has a longer leash than a lot of guys do. 00:28:10 Speaker 2: Yes, he has that luxury for sure. And the team won the game, right. I mean, you've got one of the best offenses in baseball and you can afford to have these types of outings and not have it kill you. 00:28:20 Speaker 3: Until he learns how to throw his fastball for a strike, he can change his grip on a split all he wants, because guys will still foul it. 00:28:29 Speaker 4: All. Yeah, so get some strikeouts. 00:28:32 Speaker 3: But until he learns cracks to throw the fastball for a strike consistently, because guys just won't swing at the split. I mean they'll try not to, and they will every once in a while. Guys will, but they're just going to go up there and say, Okay, Well, at some point he's going to get into a fastball count. I know if I get too, Oh, he's not throwing me a split. He didn't really have a great slider. That's why they want him to develop a third pitch. He's kind of in a weird spot. I don't care. Oh, he threw it two miles an hour harder and had three more rotations or whatever it had on it. I mean, cool and all, But you know what that also means. It probably has less movement, and therefore it's straising the zone more, and therefore guys. 00:29:05 Speaker 4: Can hit it better. 00:29:06 Speaker 1: Yeah, his fastball is getting destroyed this year. 00:29:08 Speaker 4: Because it's the only pitch he has that you can throw for a strike. Yeah, on a somewhat consistent. 00:29:12 Speaker 2: Level, seven sixty seven against his four seamer slugging percentage. 00:29:19 Speaker 5: Even me is a bad hitter. If you tell me a guy can't throw his splitter for a strike because he's not sure where it's gonna go. I can pick that up out of the hand and just automatically not swing. Can't he throw it for a strike? 00:29:32 Speaker 4: Sometimes? And what I get burned? Absolutely? 00:29:34 Speaker 5: But if you're only sitting on one pitch, that's why seven what did you say, seven to seventy six. 00:29:40 Speaker 2: Was sec sixty seven slugging against his four seamer this year three ninety five batting average. 00:29:46 Speaker 4: And and so. 00:29:48 Speaker 5: That's partially command, but it's mostly the fact that you don't have anything else and guys are just sitting on it. 00:29:56 Speaker 2: Hey, Andrew Freeman bit back at the story. That just won't end the Otani rule. He said on AM five seventy in LA that MLB reached out to teams before implementing the Otani rule when Atani was playing with the Angels. 00:30:10 Speaker 1: Clearly, I guess they were okay with it. 00:30:13 Speaker 2: Freeman said on this interview, it felt very random and strange that Craig Council felt the need to bring up the Otani rule. Council doubled down over the weekend when they first went to him on Friday. Did you guys see that he was pretty strong about it. I never see him talk like that. 00:30:28 Speaker 1: Craig Counsel and Trevor's story were not on my Bengo card for Quotes of the Week. 00:30:35 Speaker 5: I mean, okay, major League Baseball went to teams like they really, like they really you know how much Major League Baseball goes to teams when they ask about rules put They even put players on their rules committee. And then they're like, I know the players disagreed with this, but we're still. 00:30:51 Speaker 4: Implementing a rule. So I don't know about that answer. But Craig feels like he's right, So good for him for doublee down. 00:30:58 Speaker 3: By the way, the Brules committee crats, by the way, has I think it's five executives and four players, so that even if all the players vote against something, it doesn't even matter. 00:31:09 Speaker 4: Correct. So that's what's funny about them being on one and one umpire. 00:31:14 Speaker 3: Oh yeah yeah, So whatever however they do it, even if all the players disagree, it doesn't matter. 00:31:18 Speaker 4: They're gonna do it anyway. So that's hilarious. 00:31:21 Speaker 3: Uh, Honestly, I didn't watch a lot of baseball this week, and I was kind of busy, but I checked the highlights. How did PCA was? What was his reac I didn't see the reaction that he got. 00:31:34 Speaker 5: I mean, I'm assuming was it bad or was it kind of I mean, not many people are there in the first at bat, so they didn't, you know, they didn't. But the media, the h the twitter account, Dodger's Twitter account when he struck out, you know, he flay out at a pitch in the dird or whatever and basically just regurgitated his quote and was like, oh, well this should be like a picture or whatever, basically saying exactly what he said. 00:32:01 Speaker 4: So it was good, good drama. 00:32:03 Speaker 2: Dodgers won two out of three, but Game one Cubs win. That was their tenth in a row. They're feeling it. There was video that Marquee posted of PCA walking back into the dugout saying, I'm going to paraphrase something like where are you? Where are they something like that when the game ended, because he was saying, Oh, they're not here. 00:32:22 Speaker 1: That's fun. That's heel Stone. 00:32:24 Speaker 4: He's from there too. 00:32:25 Speaker 1: Be the villain. I agree, embrace the villain. 00:32:29 Speaker 2: Hey, the first team to twenty wins is the Atlanta Braves. We talked about the Philly side for a moment, but how about the Atlanta side. Chris Sale looks like a cy young candidate. Almost everyone is hitting. The guys that aren't hitting great are the ones that you are probably least concerned about, right Like akunye Haires looks good, Olsen looks great. They lost a ton of pictures, doesn't matter right now, right, Strider's going to be back soon. He might be back next I don't know if they announced it yet, but he looked pretty good in his last rehab outing. 00:33:05 Speaker 1: Is this the best team in base No, but the one thing that's number one in your power rankings? 00:33:11 Speaker 4: No, the Dodgers, but because they have the most wins. 00:33:13 Speaker 3: But I just got you know what, Maybe I'll put the number one of my power most wins. If Chris Sale does something about the beard. 00:33:20 Speaker 1: I know the Braves of the but they're not your number one. 00:33:22 Speaker 4: No, what do you want him to do? 00:33:24 Speaker 3: Color Chris Sill needs to trim that beard a little bit. Why they could they can move up? Maybe there number two. Maybe it gives them intimidation factor. 00:33:34 Speaker 2: Oh so tough, Chris Braves fans have it good. They miss the playoffs last year for the first time since twenty. 00:33:39 Speaker 3: The Braves since the nineties have went in the playoffs like was that thirty six years ago? They've been in the playoffs like thirty four of the thirty six years and it was only years they missed for the two years I was there. 00:33:48 Speaker 4: They're good. 00:33:49 Speaker 2: No, fans want more titles, but they're good. And this year eight series wins one time, no series losses as they took down the Phillies in a weekend set. 00:33:59 Speaker 4: Yeah, be good. 00:34:00 Speaker 1: They're good. 00:34:01 Speaker 5: Fans don't show up either. It's getting hot. Atlanta fans won't be there. Phillies fans will stop showing up soon. Mets fans they don't want to be there. The National League East, the Marlins might have the most fans this year. Look at that National League East. Everybody has a losing record. 00:34:19 Speaker 1: Except for the Braves. 00:34:20 Speaker 4: Except for the Braves. 00:34:23 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a weird start in the NL East. But Atlanta is thriving right now. Not weird, they really are. 00:34:30 Speaker 4: They're pitching well too, which they aren't. The biggest surprise. 00:34:32 Speaker 1: They're starting pitching e r with all the losses they took. No. I mean last year it wasn't good because they lost a ton of guys. 00:34:39 Speaker 4: And this year, anybody. 00:34:43 Speaker 2: This year three one two ra is third in baseball from their starting staff. 00:34:47 Speaker 1: That's really damn good. 00:34:48 Speaker 5: What do the Braves for all those years that AJ just said, thirty six years, except for when AJ screwed it up, what do the Braves always do? 00:34:57 Speaker 3: I mean they had they had small gloven maddocks for a lot out of those ears. 00:35:02 Speaker 2: Todd Father, it's getting a little warm out, and I means, let's hit some concerts, let's hit some baseball games. And where am I going to go to find those tickets? And if you want to sing the answer, you can. 00:35:12 Speaker 6: We're going to see gee, hey, hey, listen. MLB's official ticket marketplaces. A couple of things on the American League East. I know we've been talking a lot about the Red Sox and a little bit about the Yankees. The Blue Jays just placed Max Schuers around the injury list. Right fore arm tendonitis, left ankle inflammation. The Blue Jays have a very very long injury list this year. You know who doesn't have a long injury list, The Rays. They swept the Twins. They look pretty good right now. They're pretty healthy. 00:36:26 Speaker 4: They're doing all right. 00:36:27 Speaker 2: Shane mcclanahan's back. He pitched well again this weekend. They've won eleven of fifteen games. They're sixteen and eleven. 00:36:35 Speaker 4: Right. Junior Cavnaro hasn't swung and missed in like a month. I feel like it's been locked. Like he's he's doing damage. 00:36:43 Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the front office dream with the dam I mean big loud contact and then not missing in the zone. But yeah, they have the second best mark in the American League. I know it's early, and for me, this series says just as much about the Twins. I remember two three weeks ago, like, oh, or the Twins gonna be good man. They've lost nine of ten. 00:37:03 Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think anybody really thought they. 00:37:04 Speaker 2: Were gonna I didn't know. We were trying to be nice. We had some players on. 00:37:09 Speaker 5: It was fun what the race found another closer, Like they just they just go ahead and throw Brian Baker in there. I think he's like top three or four in the league in saves, like just oh. The Orioles were like, ah, whatever, Yeah, we'll get rid of the guy. 00:37:25 Speaker 4: He's fine. 00:37:27 Speaker 5: And remember that we like Pete Fairbanks, We're not gonna pay you. Brian Baker right into the closer role. 00:37:34 Speaker 4: But he was good. 00:37:35 Speaker 3: He was good for the he was remember when remember when the race trade of farm Everyone's like, what are the Orioles doing? Because he was under control and we're like the whole what are the Oils doing? 00:37:46 Speaker 2: Yeah, and I will say, I mean there were a lot of comments that were like, guys, really, it's Brian Baker. 00:37:52 Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, every piece in the name. 00:37:56 Speaker 5: Yet every piece in the bullpen matters Brian Baker. 00:37:59 Speaker 4: He was older. Absolutely, who cares every piece of a bull bait? I think the raids are pain. 00:38:03 Speaker 5: I'm like one and a half million, maybe not even one and a half million right now. 00:38:07 Speaker 4: Every team needs bullpen pieces. 00:38:11 Speaker 2: Ano they're moved from the other day with Toronto, Jeff Hoffman out of the closer role for now, going with the committee in Toronto. Even though they've been hit with all these injuries, I'm still not worried about them, like the the offense looks like it's going to be really freaking good. Okamoto is very back. You know, he made an adjustment. He's further back. You know, he went like I think they said six inches back and it changed things. He's doing what did he do in the dugout too? Did you see that he's doing gratitude. 00:38:40 Speaker 4: Ceremonies, gratitude. 00:38:41 Speaker 3: That was a bomb he hit, Yeah, two, no, but that one he hit on the he got finally got to one of them, heaters up and he walked the crap out of the ball. 00:38:50 Speaker 1: He's going to be good. I like him. 00:38:53 Speaker 4: It's a lot of injuries, a lot of injuries. 00:38:56 Speaker 5: They got to find some innings from guys, and it gets it gets worse and worse every day. I know Max wasn't going seven innings for him, but you got to find somebody that's going to give you what Max could have given you. You assumed he was going to get better, but it's it's a lot, and that kind of stuff catches up to you in July. 00:39:18 Speaker 2: They've got dogs though. I mean, this is why you pay big money for Dylan Cees. It's not just oh I think I can make him better. He freaking pitches. He always pitches, and you need innings from him. 00:39:29 Speaker 1: Not a lot of Savage in Brios, I know. 00:39:31 Speaker 2: But Savage and Burrios should give them innings that, you know, the rest of the year here, Hopefully they stay healthy. Bieber's going to come back at some point. Gossman gives you innings. Corbin looks good right now. I'm not that worried about them. I'm not, and I think the offense is going to bang. So they're twelve and fifteen. It's not great. They're not that much better game and a hat better than the Red Sox and just acts their coaching staff. 00:39:53 Speaker 1: But I'm not concerned. I mean the Red Sox should be concerned, because I think. 00:39:57 Speaker 2: The Blue Jays will play well. Right Razor playing better than most people. Anticipated Yankees look like a force. I think the Orioles will be a little better than they look right now. Pete's gonna hit eventually, right m you got cold again. But they're thirteen and fifteen. You hover around there. One winning streak and then we're all gushing over the team. 00:40:18 Speaker 4: Worn off. I haven't seen him from a while. 00:40:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, I get one hug a week and then I'm back betmgam players. You can get yourself in any sport any yeah, any sport parlay boost token. Hey, the Colorado Rockies put up the purple Empire State Building picture to be like, do you want to give us this Mets for sweeping you? They're really going for it. The Twins through the twelve jokes at them the other day when they had their twelve game losing skid. They were like, hey, I'mpire State Building just an idea because Empy puts up different coloring each night. We talked about plenty of teams todaying what happened over the weekend. We barely talked about the Mets. Besides, with Sack Scott, I mean, this is the second largest payroll in the sport. We might have a manager change this week. Their off season experiment right now looks like a disaster. Then they run into Colorado for all the jokes. The Rockies are thirteen and sixteen. Do you know that last year they were thirteen and fifty five. 00:41:55 Speaker 4: Yeah, they were chasing them White Sox for that one to twenty. 00:41:57 Speaker 1: On June twelfth. 00:42:01 Speaker 2: I know, but that's how much whatever you want to say. They are much better this not much better. They're better this. 00:42:07 Speaker 4: Year, better this year. 00:42:08 Speaker 3: But what the Remember we had what's his name on from Mets up and he said this ten game stretch would make or break the Mets season. 00:42:18 Speaker 2: So that was Tim Britten from the Athletic came on and said the ten game stretch. They're two and four at home against these teams, and they got swept and. 00:42:29 Speaker 4: Including as a double header, which is really hard to do it. 00:42:32 Speaker 1: Yesterday it was a disaster. 00:42:33 Speaker 2: First of all, I was like, would they score one run in two games? One one run against the Rocky stats? Now, Chase Dolander looks really awesome. All year he looks awesome. He's got a two two five. He had seven shutout inning, seven strikeouts. Sega they removed early in that game. Yesterday he was getting poured on it with booze U. Bantos had a bad air in the first game. McLean was okay, but Kintana eat them. I mean they're making every pitcher look amazing. 00:43:03 Speaker 1: They can't score. 00:43:03 Speaker 2: I mean there's a number of issues, but they also just can't score. You scored one run in two games yesterday at home against Colorado, And yeah, I know it's it's a little chili. I was there yesterday and then I flew back this morning. It's a little chilly in New York. Okay, it's not thirty degrees though. 00:43:19 Speaker 4: Hold for everybody, stop with the weather. Stop with the weather. 00:43:23 Speaker 1: So what the hell's going on? The whole team just can't hit for a month. Everybody can't hit. 00:43:29 Speaker 4: Grimace ain't there, ain't there. 00:43:32 Speaker 2: Grimas was there. They've been doing so that. They've had the happy Grimace. They've had the Grimace. I think they were like, but the. 00:43:37 Speaker 4: Grimace that's not the same Grimace as a couple of years ago. 00:43:39 Speaker 2: Woh, Like you need to find the actual dude or dudet that was playing Grimace and put them back in the costume. 00:43:45 Speaker 4: Oh, they need to bring back on ge. They need to move back the pumpkin, all of it, Pumpkin. 00:43:50 Speaker 1: Whatever, Jose Glicias, Pee Alonzo. 00:43:54 Speaker 3: Two soon They're just they're just something something there ain't right and I hate to say it, so it's gonna be mendy and it's not. It's not's not the problem hadn't changed. 00:44:04 Speaker 1: And then guess what, it's still not going to be right. 00:44:06 Speaker 5: Hey, good news though in five years they won't have Nemo's contract to worry about. 00:44:11 Speaker 1: That's good, it's so true. So obsessed with shedding Brandon Nemo's contract. Look what you're doing so far this year? And mc neil, Yeah, McNeil's doing good too. 00:44:23 Speaker 5: And run prevention. They they have been successful in run prevention, just on the wrong. 00:44:28 Speaker 4: Side of the ball to themselves. That's what I mean. They prevented themselves from scoring. 00:44:35 Speaker 2: Brandon Nemo updates still amazing. One forty oh ps plus Kratz. AT's what you got for us on the. 00:44:40 Speaker 1: Way out. 00:44:43 Speaker 4: Now podcast crowd. It's a big day for me. 00:44:46 Speaker 5: The last time the Red Sox were in the in the playoffs on a on a year when they shouldn't have been twenty one when I worked there. 00:44:56 Speaker 2: I think they've made the playoffs twice since they won the title in twenty eighteen. I'll ride that for a while. Monster Territory was all over it this weekend. You can get this shirt too if you want it. We'll see you on Tuesday. 00:45:07 Speaker 4: I'll be wearing NASCAR hat with the Red Sox ownership
