WWE announces Night of Champions for June 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

WWE is heading back to Saudi Arabia this summer.

The company’s annual Night of Champions Premium Live Event (PLE) will take place on June 27 in Riyadh, per an announcement made Thursday.

The event is part of WWE’s long-standing partnership with the country, bringing events over since 2018.

WWE’s upcoming trip will be its second event in Saudi Arabia this year. This year’s Royal Rumble was also hosted in Riyadh, the first time the event had taken place outside of North America.

Saudi Arabia is notably the expected host for Wrestlemania 43 next year.

The upcoming event is announced amid conflict in the Middle East, with Iran currently at war against the U.S. and Israel. Saudi Arabia has been struck by attacks numerous times amid this war, including an early March attack that targeted the U.S. embassy based in Riyadh.

Conflict in the region caused Formula 1 to cancel its scheduled races in both Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which were scheduled to take place this month.

The U.S. Department of State currently has a Level 3 travel advisory on Saudi Arabia, warning citizens to “reconsider travel” to the area. The government cites risk of “Iranian drone and missile targeting of American interests, armed conflict, terrorism, exit bans, and local laws regarding social media activity” as reasons to not visit the country.

POST Wrestling had previously reported that WWE was considering a PLE in Saudi Arabia for this summer.
