<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, Welcome to Games Morning's presented by Deku Deals
<v Speaker 1>with Me Jeff Grub, your host from GiantBomb dot com.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're going to be talking about reviews
<v Speaker 1>for the Switch Toes next a big game, and cats
<v Speaker 1>and dogs are living together in Fortnite. It's it's a
<v Speaker 1>weird one. We'll talk about that. But this episode is
<v Speaker 1>going to be a good one because we have Lex
<v Speaker 1>Letti on the show. Lex, how are you doing well.
<v Speaker 3>I'm a view to video games and you know that
<v Speaker 3>was interesting, That's true. Yeah, I'm a viewed Call of Duty.
<v Speaker 3>But you guys play that Call of Duty.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's you know, it's always one of the biggest
<v Speaker 1>games of the year. They have just all the money
<v Speaker 1>in the world to just make that thing as refined
<v Speaker 1>and polished as possible. So I'm assuming you just had
<v Speaker 1>maybe a rote but very refined experience, am I right?
<v Speaker 3>It was definitely roche.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, so fifty fifty.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. I've reviewed that game for Restart Run. You can
<v Speaker 3>check that out right now. I'd recommend you do. I
<v Speaker 3>gave it one star. I deeply dislike pretty much everything
<v Speaker 3>that that game symbolizes and embodies, and some people weren't
<v Speaker 3>super happy about that review. I've gone the feedback a
<v Speaker 3>lot that like, hey, the game functions, which I have
<v Speaker 3>run into quite a few glitches, so like, I feel
<v Speaker 3>like that is kind of a point, but I have
<v Speaker 3>run into the point of like, hey, it functions. And
<v Speaker 3>I gotta say, in twenty twenty five one, if we're
<v Speaker 3>doing the whole reviews of product product reviews, thing, this
<v Speaker 3>industry is fucked. The other thing is like I'm kind
<v Speaker 3>of sick and tired of us giving the biggest game
<v Speaker 3>in the world with the most amount of money and
<v Speaker 3>the most amount of function like funding and people working
<v Speaker 3>on it a free pass or extra credit because it
<v Speaker 3>hasn't fucked up certain things from one year to another,
<v Speaker 3>like the fact that the movement in college you he
<v Speaker 3>still feels good. Doesn't feel like it should be something
<v Speaker 3>to write home about because it should damn well feel good.
<v Speaker 3>They spend more money on it on like the gun
<v Speaker 3>feel in that game than I will ever earn in
<v Speaker 3>my life. So yeah, I'm not a huge fan of
<v Speaker 3>that game. I think it's pretty disgusting that they're charging
<v Speaker 3>upwards of one hundred and ten dollars for what is
<v Speaker 3>essentially like a recess on your level, so that you
<v Speaker 3>can go through the same like bullshit again year over year.
<v Speaker 3>But the rewards this time are lesser than they have
<v Speaker 3>been in previous years because they're not even created by
<v Speaker 3>humans this year. And on top of that, they're asking
<v Speaker 3>you to break the BDS Boycotton doing so. So I
<v Speaker 3>kind of think that Black Ops seven thinks very little
<v Speaker 3>of its players and of its developers, like it's clearly
<v Speaker 3>trying to replace its developers. They've made no bones about that.
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, I'm not a fan, and I'd recommend reading
<v Speaker 3>my full review because you can read about some really
<v Speaker 3>truly incredible writing in the campaign. Just some grub. You've
<v Speaker 3>gotta play some of that campaign. There's a bit with Wood.
<v Speaker 3>There's a bit with Woods where you go and Woods
<v Speaker 3>was taken captive in Vietnam and you trip balls and
<v Speaker 3>then you're saving Woods in Vietnam even though you're in
<v Speaker 3>the future, and then when you get to Woods, he
<v Speaker 3>turns into a giant tree monster.
<v Speaker 2>Huh.
<v Speaker 1>To me, it does sound like they just had a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of stuff that they've created for other modes and
<v Speaker 1>then they kind of came up with reasons to connect
<v Speaker 1>them to get and you need to see that.
<v Speaker 3>It's it's interesting. I've played through all of the Black
<v Speaker 3>Ops games last year, all the campaigns and bits of
<v Speaker 3>their multiplayer on stream, and I found it like a
<v Speaker 3>really interesting academic experience from the point of view of
<v Speaker 3>year over year seeing like, Okay, how do we make
<v Speaker 3>this feel fresh, and like where do they add things?
<v Speaker 3>And you know, Black Ops two had its weird thing
<v Speaker 3>where like you would do the multiplayer missions in between
<v Speaker 3>the campaign things and that would affect how the story
<v Speaker 3>ended and stuff like that, and this year it really
<v Speaker 3>does feel like what was on the kush room floor
<v Speaker 3>from the last couple of years of those, like if
<v Speaker 3>Black Ops six was people being like, oh, yeah, these
<v Speaker 3>campaigns are good and the fun and they're like bombastic
<v Speaker 3>and the ridiculous. This is the rubber band snapping back
<v Speaker 3>the other way and being like, oh no, doing one
<v Speaker 3>of these a year is not realistic, and yeah, it's
<v Speaker 3>it's a real rough thing. I I'm I wish that
<v Speaker 3>game was better, and I wish that that people who
<v Speaker 3>played that game were willing to be like, hey, my
<v Speaker 3>time is worth more than this, because the idea of
<v Speaker 3>spending much more time on that game makes me sad.
<v Speaker 3>The idea that someone would put hours and hours and
<v Speaker 3>hours into that and that would be the peak of
<v Speaker 3>video games for them for the year. That bums me out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, especially an you're like this, whether it's so many
<v Speaker 1>awesome games that have released and so many cool new
<v Speaker 1>ideas to try and experience, even if even if all
<v Speaker 1>you want is multiplayer military style shooting, It's like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>you could you could try R Graders. Not that that
<v Speaker 1>doesn't have its own sort of problems and own assortment
<v Speaker 1>of issues, including the use of AI, but it's like,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, you know, if you're gonna have a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of bad things, maybe try a new bad thing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I can only get so worked up about other people
<v Speaker 1>wasting their time.
<v Speaker 2>I got my own time to worry about. But Call
<v Speaker 2>of Duty is certainly won.
<v Speaker 1>When I look at it, it's like this again, Huh,
<v Speaker 1>I've tried to play that game.
<v Speaker 3>See that they didn't put out numbers for the for
<v Speaker 3>the opening weekend. They're like, we're not putting out player numbers.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, this is this is certainly the one that
<v Speaker 1>was going to run into some problems, right because there
<v Speaker 1>is competition with Battlefield and art graders, and there is
<v Speaker 1>less excitement for this one, like being the sequel to
<v Speaker 1>Black Ops six and and people people generally liking Black
<v Speaker 1>Ops six, I guess, and in that fandom, but they
<v Speaker 1>did not seem too hot on this one.
<v Speaker 3>So it is the tail end of like the five
<v Speaker 3>year cycle that they've gotten trapped in of slowly pushing
<v Speaker 3>into the future and future tech. For the fans are like,
<v Speaker 3>we hate this, and they're like, Okay, boots on the ground,
<v Speaker 3>Boots on the ground, baby, We're bringing it back to
<v Speaker 3>boots on the ground.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they you know, I is are the rumors for
<v Speaker 1>what the next one will be next year's Call of Duty?
<v Speaker 2>Do we?
<v Speaker 3>But I haven't been trawling through, Like I know people
<v Speaker 3>are way up to date on that stuff, but like
<v Speaker 3>I have spent my last two weeks trying to unravel
<v Speaker 3>the law of the zombies mode.
<v Speaker 1>And let me tell futile, yeah that that sounds like
<v Speaker 1>a road to insanity.
<v Speaker 2>I don't.
<v Speaker 1>I have no interest in unfurling what they've done with zombies,
<v Speaker 1>which it was always like okay, cool, I'm gonna ignore this,
<v Speaker 1>and then it became like one of the biggest things
<v Speaker 1>they had. People just love that. The lot of people
<v Speaker 1>love zombies is what I've learned over time. All Right,
<v Speaker 1>we should we should get into the show and explain
<v Speaker 1>ourselves for giant Bomb for independent video game do fasis

<v Speaker 1>Clans or something like that. As far as this show goes,

<v Speaker 1>Know, you can also catch the show later with chapters
<v Speaker 1>in timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with those Kirby air Riders reviews,
<v Speaker 1>says an eighty on Open Critic with twenty five reviews.
<v Speaker 1>Kind of like right there between people seeming to really
<v Speaker 1>like it and people seem to be like, I don't
<v Speaker 1>really get it or care, but also just a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of eights. It really did get a ton of aids
<v Speaker 1>or four stars, including an eight out of ten from
<v Speaker 1>Jake Decker over at Game Spot.
<v Speaker 2>Shut us out to Dike. Dike, Yeah, shuts out to Dick.
<v Speaker 1>That's what I'm calling him from now on, Dick says,
<v Speaker 1>Kirby air Riders is an impressive package that makes the
<v Speaker 1>most of its deceivingly simple mechanics, and that is a
<v Speaker 1>seven out of ten from Dominic Layton at the sixth Axis.
<v Speaker 2>Kirby Air Riders is a charming addition to the racing genre.
<v Speaker 1>Its unique outlook might not approve appeal to everyone, but
<v Speaker 1>it's still liable to find a raft of fans, just
<v Speaker 1>like its GameCube predecessor. Four stars from Chris Sculling at VGC,
<v Speaker 1>who writes Kirby Air Riders really didn't need a combined
<v Speaker 1>one hundred and seven minutes of Nintendo Direct presentations to
<v Speaker 1>sell players on its merits, because it only takes a
<v Speaker 1>few races to see how fun it can be. Road
<v Speaker 1>Trip modes, imbalanced wind conditions will divide players, but the
<v Speaker 1>brilliantly diverse road Trip Yeah, road Trip, which is built
<v Speaker 1>with multiple playthroughs in mind, and the hefty seven hundred
<v Speaker 1>and fifty mission checklist, and sure solo players have plenty
<v Speaker 1>to do. I think I'm a little surprised.
<v Speaker 2>At the games being as well received as it is.
<v Speaker 1>I was expecting it to be a little bit more
<v Speaker 1>of a cult hit, and by that I mean a
<v Speaker 1>game in the seventies, A game that mostly people complain about,
<v Speaker 1>and then it does end up finding its fans. This
<v Speaker 1>sounds like maybe the best version of Air Riders we
<v Speaker 1>could have expected, and I'm more interested in it after
<v Speaker 1>reading many of these reviews. I did try it out
<v Speaker 1>in one of those tests recently, Lexi, and it was like,
<v Speaker 1>for the online mode, you can only do city trials.
<v Speaker 1>We did some of this during the Extra Life Marathon,
<v Speaker 1>if people want to check that out, and that was
<v Speaker 1>frantic and a little bit confusing, but I think I
<v Speaker 1>got it by the end and was having fun collecting
<v Speaker 1>as many passive upgrades as I could and getting items
<v Speaker 1>and sort of using those against other players and hitting
<v Speaker 1>them and taking and stealing their stuff from them, and
<v Speaker 1>then going to the mini games.
<v Speaker 2>It's like, I kind of get this loop.
<v Speaker 1>This is pretty neat, even if it is just a
<v Speaker 1>little bit makes you feel schizophrenic a little. The racing mode, though,
<v Speaker 1>was really impressive in terms of the way it visually
<v Speaker 1>presented itself. It just looks fantastic, and that made me
<v Speaker 1>want to get over the hump of I don't ever
<v Speaker 1>quite feel like the machines are drifting in the way
<v Speaker 1>I expect, so as a reminder, Kirby aer Riders is
<v Speaker 1>a like one now maybe two button game where the
<v Speaker 1>machine is always going It's always going forward, and what
<v Speaker 1>you can do is hit the button to break, and
<v Speaker 1>that break starts a drift and you want to like
<v Speaker 1>drift into these turns, and then when you let go,
<v Speaker 1>you have.
<v Speaker 2>Built up a little bit of a boost, so you
<v Speaker 2>boost out of the turns.
<v Speaker 1>It sounds like it should feel really good to me,
<v Speaker 1>but the machines I was using or whatever, none of
<v Speaker 1>them really felt like they clicked in a way where
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, Okay, I am drifting in the way I
<v Speaker 1>expected to feel.
<v Speaker 2>So I think I'm gonna need some time to like learn.
<v Speaker 1>The way this game feels, which feels antithetical to the
<v Speaker 1>idea of a one button, very simple racing game. But
<v Speaker 1>that's where I'm at, LEXI, any interest from you in
<v Speaker 1>Kirby air Riders.
<v Speaker 3>I think the thing speaking to your point Jake brings
<v Speaker 3>up in hits review, but a lot, yeah, Dake, those
<v Speaker 3>the difference in feel of the different vehicles, of the
<v Speaker 3>different machines is really where a lot of the mechanical
<v Speaker 3>depth comes from. So he does say in his review,
<v Speaker 3>like there are some of these machines that you just
<v Speaker 3>do not want to use on certain tracks. And yes,
<v Speaker 3>so like I do think that there's some way that
<v Speaker 3>drifting will feel much better for you. I haven't played yet.
<v Speaker 3>I didn't get to play any of the any of
<v Speaker 3>the tech tests. I do want to play it because
<v Speaker 3>as someone that put like three hundred hours into Mario
<v Speaker 3>kartt Age, I have been left wanting a little bit
<v Speaker 3>more from Mario kartt World, and I think something like
<v Speaker 3>this could really fill that gap. And the big downside
<v Speaker 3>about this game is like it's pretty expensive, you know,
<v Speaker 3>especially if you want to buy the ambo to do
<v Speaker 3>all the Ambo stuff that they dedicated so much of
<v Speaker 3>the directs too. That's like it's eighty bucks for the
<v Speaker 3>game and then it's thirty to forty bucks for those ambos.
<v Speaker 3>That's a lot of fucking money. And I know people
<v Speaker 3>are saying like, yeah, there's like a lot of content
<v Speaker 3>in this game, but it's still it's a big ask
<v Speaker 3>for a game like this. And I really like the
<v Speaker 3>look of it. I love the asthetic of Kirby. Like
<v Speaker 3>I say this a bunch Like for as much as
<v Speaker 3>people have started associating me with loving Kirby, I don't
<v Speaker 3>actually love the games that much. I just really like
<v Speaker 3>fucking the Viber Kirby. I'm just like, this is a
<v Speaker 3>good dude. This is a really good dude. We should
<v Speaker 3>have more of this dude around. He should be invited
<v Speaker 3>to all of our parties absolutely and eat all the food.
<v Speaker 3>But like, yeah, I'm it's weird looking at this Metacritic
<v Speaker 3>page too, because it really is like the mean and
<v Speaker 3>the old average almost the exact same with these scores.
<v Speaker 1>It's wild, Yes, it is. You're right, it is pretty
<v Speaker 1>interesting to see. It's like everyone just kind of agrees
<v Speaker 1>of like what this game is and it's I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>To me, that's like, for some reason, seeing that does
<v Speaker 1>get me more interested. It's like, okay, like I feel
<v Speaker 1>like if I spend my money on it, I know
<v Speaker 1>exactly the quality level that I'm getting and how into
<v Speaker 1>it I'm going to be. I am, I am curious,
<v Speaker 1>like I do see like people be like comparing it
<v Speaker 1>to Mario Kart and Sonic Racing and being like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this is another one that kind of matches those and
<v Speaker 1>could be a full alternative. It's something maybe you can
<v Speaker 1>give to kids and they'll they'll enjoy it. I'm like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>you know what, I'm gonna go for it. I'm gonna
<v Speaker 1>play this with the girls, see how they feel about it.
<v Speaker 2>We'll see.
<v Speaker 1>I think that, like I said, I'm gonna need some
<v Speaker 1>extra time to sort of suss it out because you
<v Speaker 1>can't end up in situations where and I think I
<v Speaker 1>appreciate this about the game. It does feel like it's
<v Speaker 1>it asks you to like learn its language a little bit,
<v Speaker 1>but you can end up in situations where you pick
<v Speaker 1>a vehicle that's just wrong for the track and wrong
<v Speaker 1>for like those minigames, because that was doing the City
<v Speaker 1>Trials and it's like, oh, I really want to do
<v Speaker 1>this minigame, but all of the passive abilities that I
<v Speaker 1>picked up during the City Trials collection phase maybe make
<v Speaker 1>it so I'm not like ideal for this particular task,
<v Speaker 1>and I might be behind some of the other players
<v Speaker 1>who are spect specifically for that. Now, they do give
<v Speaker 1>you a little bit of like, hey, we recommend you
<v Speaker 1>do this minigame, and I appreciate that. So it's like
<v Speaker 1>I probably should just go that route. Most people should.
<v Speaker 1>But it's say I'm want to figure out why the
<v Speaker 1>things I'm collecting make my now my Racer more suited
<v Speaker 1>for one of these minigames versus the other. So I'm
<v Speaker 1>going to play some of it. We'll see, and at
<v Speaker 1>the very least, I just think it looks stunning, at
<v Speaker 1>least in the racing modes.
<v Speaker 2>So we'll go for that.
<v Speaker 1>You know, these Kirby games, they do have a good vibe,
<v Speaker 1>like you were saying, and if they can continue to
<v Speaker 1>trade on that esthetic in a way where it's like
<v Speaker 1>we're putting the effort into making it visually really like
<v Speaker 1>appealing and well done, then I'm like, okay, I'll be
<v Speaker 1>on board for that. The pricing, this is the This
<v Speaker 1>is an eighty dollars game. You said, right, eighty dollars.
<v Speaker 3>It's eighty or seventy dependent. It's weird for me in
<v Speaker 3>your I thought it was eighty. I'm some Nintendo games
<v Speaker 3>are now pushing eighty dollars for me in Ireland, which
<v Speaker 3>sucks if I want to buy the physical versions or
<v Speaker 3>eighty to zero. So I'm not sure how much it
<v Speaker 3>is for you. But Grub you know, Saqua has gone
<v Speaker 3>out there and he said, like I don't this is
<v Speaker 3>probably the end of the series, and I want this
<v Speaker 3>to be a complete package and I don't envision us
<v Speaker 3>doing any more of them. What are the odds? He
<v Speaker 3>gets sick and tired of people taking it too seriously
<v Speaker 3>on odds tripping.
<v Speaker 1>Ah, there's always the chance, and frankly, I just wouldn't
<v Speaker 1>tend to fait there.
<v Speaker 2>Everybody, because he'll do it. He'll fucking do it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's seventy dollars in the United States, one hundred
<v Speaker 1>dollars in Canada. Sorry everybody, Yeah, that you're right. The
<v Speaker 1>pricing still kind of stings a little bit. I've been
<v Speaker 1>I've not been asking Nintendo for codes recently. I've just
<v Speaker 1>been buying all the games I might ask for this one.
<v Speaker 1>Spending seventy dollars on this just feels rough. But I
<v Speaker 1>don't know. We'll see how that goes. Uh, I'm just
<v Speaker 1>I'm also just not going to buy the amibo anyway.
<v Speaker 1>Like I've never really done that.
<v Speaker 2>What what is like? What does that get you here?
<v Speaker 3>Like?
<v Speaker 2>Do you did you know what do you understand that.
<v Speaker 3>Kind of you know, the stuff in Smash where you
<v Speaker 3>can kind of the stuff that Dan did during COVID
<v Speaker 3>where he kind of had his fighters or whatever. You
<v Speaker 3>can basically kind of like train up your Amoebo characters
<v Speaker 3>or whatever. I think. I think I didn't watch all
<v Speaker 3>of those fucking directs. I was in Germany for one
<v Speaker 3>of them, watching it in a cafe, and I was
<v Speaker 3>in Japan for the other one. So I missed most
<v Speaker 3>of most of the Kirby air Rider directs. And I
<v Speaker 3>just poked my head up every now and again and
<v Speaker 3>I was like, the how long mm hmmm.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>That's one hundred and seven minutes total between those two directs.
<v Speaker 1>Uh okay, I, like I said, I'll spend some time
<v Speaker 1>with this with the kids, play some of it myself,
<v Speaker 1>and we'll report.
<v Speaker 2>Back, probably talking about on the BombCast next week.
<v Speaker 3>Well, I will just say one final thing you give off.
<v Speaker 2>With vibes, thank you. I love that.
<v Speaker 1>I love that fucker. That's the hamster? Is that what
<v Speaker 1>it is? The hamster that you rode in Kirby's Dreamland?
<v Speaker 3>Two?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>I like Rick.
<v Speaker 2>All right, let's keep going here.
<v Speaker 1>Epic announces partnership to bring Unity Games into Fortnite. What
<v Speaker 1>in the hell this is from Sophie McAvoy at Games
<v Speaker 1>Industry Dot Biz. Let's just let's read this whole thing
<v Speaker 1>so we kind of understand what we're talking about here.
<v Speaker 1>Epic Games in Unity have announced a major partnership allowing
<v Speaker 1>developers to publish Unity titles in Fortnite, Revealed today during
<v Speaker 1>Unity's and annual developer conference Unite. The collaboration will also
<v Speaker 1>see Unity bring Unreal Engine support to its platform early
<v Speaker 1>next year. Developers will also be able to manage pricing, promotions,
<v Speaker 1>and live operations with Unreal. Additional information and product timing
<v Speaker 1>will be shared in twenty twenty six.
<v Speaker 2>Here's a quote.
<v Speaker 1>We're excited to partner with Epic Games to create more
<v Speaker 1>opportunities for game developers around the world, said Unity President
<v Speaker 1>and CEO Matt Bromberg. Choice and open systems create growth
<v Speaker 1>for everyone in the gaming ecosystem. Epic Games founder and
<v Speaker 1>CEO Tim Sweeney added, just like the early days of
<v Speaker 1>the Web, we believe that companies need to work together
<v Speaker 1>in order to build the open metaverse in a way
<v Speaker 1>that's interoperable and fair. Working alongside Unity, we're helping developers
<v Speaker 1>build fun games, reach bigger audiences, and find success. Speaking
<v Speaker 1>to the Verge, Sweeney said that this partnership will greatly
<v Speaker 1>expand the developer base. He also clarified that there will
<v Speaker 1>be a review process for whether Fortnite experiences are made
<v Speaker 1>with tools from either engine. As this evolves into a
<v Speaker 1>completely open system, we'd only have reviews for the stuff.
<v Speaker 2>That we host. Sweeney explained.
<v Speaker 1>Anybody would be able to put anything anywhere and people
<v Speaker 1>would be able to browse it to it like you
<v Speaker 1>do in a web browser today. Uh okay, what I like,
<v Speaker 1>I'm I tried to like understand this better Unity games
<v Speaker 1>in Fortnite? What what does that even? What does that mean? Like,
<v Speaker 1>so building so that.
<v Speaker 3>You can launch them like you can purchase Unity games
<v Speaker 3>and launch them through Fortnite, or is it that you
<v Speaker 3>are now using a different set of tools to create
<v Speaker 3>Fortnite experiences?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>I think I think it is like someone builds something
<v Speaker 1>in Unity and then because of all these tools here where,
<v Speaker 1>it's like developers will be able to to be able
<v Speaker 1>to manage pricing, promotions and live operations with Unreal, there
<v Speaker 1>will be hooks into Unreal and using that stuff, it
<v Speaker 1>might hook it directly into Fortnite. And I guess that's
<v Speaker 1>like the Fortnite community created stuff which you can browse
<v Speaker 1>to and explore, and all that stuff is is just
<v Speaker 1>like you know, there's that that's the Fortnite Engine for
<v Speaker 1>Unreal or Unreal Engine or Fortnite whatever that's called. Well,
<v Speaker 1>now that apparently that's also going to include Unity stuff.
<v Speaker 1>Why How's it's confusing? But you know, obviously, I guess
<v Speaker 1>we should lay the groundwork here of Unity is a
<v Speaker 1>development tool that indie developer developers used for years and
<v Speaker 1>years to make their games, and it kind of got
<v Speaker 1>bigger and they were like looking for opportunity for growth,
<v Speaker 1>and they just kind of boned it by making their
<v Speaker 1>stuff worse for the people who actually used Unity. In
<v Speaker 1>the meantime, Unreal was sort of chugging along on the
<v Speaker 1>other side, being like, hey, this is the kind of
<v Speaker 1>thing that BioWare uses to make the mass effect games,
<v Speaker 1>and now every game on the Xbox three sixty uses Unreal,
<v Speaker 1>and then Unreal became the default to the point where
<v Speaker 1>it's like, now even smaller games are using an Unreal
<v Speaker 1>engine to build their stuff. Unity in the meantime was
<v Speaker 1>trying to find the way back into favor and I
<v Speaker 1>don't this doesn't feel like the route to doing that.
<v Speaker 1>This does feel like the route of like maybe maintaining
<v Speaker 1>some relevancy. Okay, from Unity side, I think they're like
<v Speaker 1>let's hook our wagon to Fortnite from epic side, I
<v Speaker 1>think their idea of we're the browser, like like the
<v Speaker 1>early days of the web, and you can go to
<v Speaker 1>any website using your browser, like Fortnite will become the
<v Speaker 1>browser to find all of these experiences is what I
<v Speaker 1>think they're going for.
<v Speaker 3>It is kind of nuts to see someone out there
<v Speaker 3>using the term meha verse in twenty twenty.
<v Speaker 1>Five, but it's Tim Sweeney. Yeah, it's not surprising from him.
<v Speaker 1>You see him yesterday. You see yesterday in Twitter. I
<v Speaker 1>think someone was like talk about how Elon Musk is
<v Speaker 1>what was his latest thing where he's like, I got
<v Speaker 1>my new technology is going to solve poverty and give
<v Speaker 1>everyone universal like exceptional income, and everyone's like this dude
<v Speaker 1>just says everything. You're a sucker if you still believe
<v Speaker 1>all this pie in the sky shit, because he's like
<v Speaker 1>just like, oh, we're going to be on the Mars
<v Speaker 1>in twenty twenty five. He said, what year is it,
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna have self driving cars. Every for the last
<v Speaker 1>ten years he has been saying everything that he's been
<v Speaker 1>saying forever is just been snake oil. And if you
<v Speaker 1>still buy it, you'r sucker, and Tim Sweeney replied to
<v Speaker 1>someone saying that with the Apple, here's to the dreamers thing,
<v Speaker 1>and it's just fucking embarrassing. Tim, I don't know what
<v Speaker 1>else to tell you. Hey, hey, mister Sweeney, fucking grow up, dude.
<v Speaker 1>That's some pathetic, embarrassing shit. Anyway, of course, he would
<v Speaker 1>still be talking about the metaverse in twenty twenty five,
<v Speaker 1>because if anyone is going to power whatever, that ends
<v Speaker 1>up looking like it would be unreal engine, although I
<v Speaker 1>think it would. It's going to continue looking like, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>this game exists over here and has its own platform
<v Speaker 1>and that's Roadblocks, and Grand Theft Auto has its own
<v Speaker 1>platform over here, and you get that through Grand Theft
<v Speaker 1>Auto six Online or whatever. But in the meantime, he's
<v Speaker 1>trying to build Fortnite out as a browser where you
<v Speaker 1>can access all these different kinds of experiences and now
<v Speaker 1>different experiences from different engines. And my question is like,
<v Speaker 1>how open are you talking about here? Like completely open?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>Go? And is you know it's it came up a
<v Speaker 3>bit around the like Valve stuff of you know, the
<v Speaker 3>steam machines and everything of people being like, oh, you know,
<v Speaker 3>Valve are like trying to make a more open you know,
<v Speaker 3>bace for PC players so that there's more diversity in
<v Speaker 3>that space. And it's like, yeah, like these guys love
<v Speaker 3>to talk about like I galish Aarian shit and it
<v Speaker 3>being an open space, but they're they're all billionaires, you know,
<v Speaker 3>like Gabe Nowell is a multi billionaire. You know, Tim
<v Speaker 3>Sweeney is a multi billionaire. And they've made it pretty
<v Speaker 3>clear that they don't intend on sharing that money totally.
<v Speaker 3>They don't believe that like it should be a totally
<v Speaker 3>flash playing ground or even playing ground for different creatives.
<v Speaker 3>They do want to be remain as the ones in control.
<v Speaker 3>They want to they want everyone to have it equally,
<v Speaker 3>but they want to of it the most equal, you.
<v Speaker 2>Know, exactly the most equal.
<v Speaker 1>That's because that and I think that's how this is
<v Speaker 1>how that would work is let's say it actually is
<v Speaker 1>open and you can put your game into the Fortnite browser,
<v Speaker 1>the Fortnite Hey find a game and play it through
<v Speaker 1>through here, uh, and then you will open it up,
<v Speaker 1>and then the developer of that game can choose to
<v Speaker 1>have their own currency, their own like in game currency,
<v Speaker 1>can choose to have their own payment processor. Things that
<v Speaker 1>Tim Squeeney has begged you know, Google and Apple to
<v Speaker 1>do for his stuff, and he's like slowly, slowly chipped
<v Speaker 1>away at and earned. Let's say he does that because
<v Speaker 1>he's trying to maintain that position of I'm all for that.
<v Speaker 1>He knows better than anyone that if he also gives
<v Speaker 1>the option for those developers to to let them use
<v Speaker 1>v Bucks, he will be the most equal and the
<v Speaker 1>path of us resistance for most people would be I'm
<v Speaker 1>just going to buy the v bucks and use that
<v Speaker 1>in these games instead, and then he'll get to take
<v Speaker 1>his split from all the work that all these people
<v Speaker 1>are doing. If he could control the platform, even if
<v Speaker 1>it's an open platform quote unquote open, he stands to
<v Speaker 1>greatly greatly benefit. And he can now be in the
<v Speaker 1>position that all these other things are in those things
<v Speaker 1>being you know, Windows and Steam and uh and iOS
<v Speaker 1>and Android, and he wants to have the next version
<v Speaker 1>of that and he thinks that happens through the metaverse
<v Speaker 1>and we'll see the reality here though, Lexi's probably this
<v Speaker 1>is a new story we spend this amount of time on,
<v Speaker 1>and then two years from now, you and I are
<v Speaker 1>doing a show again, and you go, remember that fucking
<v Speaker 1>story that never ever amounted anything, and nothing ever happened there.
<v Speaker 2>I think that's probably what this is. What do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah? I wondered, like, is there anyone who's made a
<v Speaker 3>Unity game who's like, I'm gonna point my Unity game
<v Speaker 3>to Fortnite? You know? Is there anyone who has a
<v Speaker 3>game on Steam right now who is like, you wanta
<v Speaker 3>what would really help my game pop off if instead
<v Speaker 3>of being on Steam it was in Fortnite?
<v Speaker 2>Yep, like that what what?
<v Speaker 3>What the fuck you're talking about?
<v Speaker 4>What?
<v Speaker 2>And like and you could see like how he ends
<v Speaker 2>up here, right?
<v Speaker 1>They try to do at the Epic Games Store as
<v Speaker 1>an alternative to Steam, and kind of, you know, it's
<v Speaker 1>viable to a certain extent, but it's not a place
<v Speaker 1>that is like thriving on its own, just because it's
<v Speaker 1>such a desirable place to work and people still prefer Steam,
<v Speaker 1>and so he's looking for it like a first mover
<v Speaker 1>or advantage, and he would have that. And as things
<v Speaker 1>moved more toward younger players are spending all of their
<v Speaker 1>time in one or two games, and if you can
<v Speaker 1>give them more stuff inside of that, they'll stay there forever.
<v Speaker 1>And to them, gaming will just be Fortnite. And whatever
<v Speaker 1>happens to the side of Fortnite, like the way that's
<v Speaker 1>happened with Roadblocks. I don't want gaming to go that way.
<v Speaker 1>Just flat out I think this is bad. I think
<v Speaker 1>that it will limit the ability for innovation and for
<v Speaker 1>cool new things to happen, the dynamism of Steam and
<v Speaker 1>early access games of creating new ideas like every year
<v Speaker 1>that everyone else copies in an awesome way like that, like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>every game needs to just now be have these cool
<v Speaker 1>new features, and I'll say rogue lights. Some people would
<v Speaker 1>be like, no, I don't want that and everything, but
<v Speaker 1>there's a reason it's in everything.
<v Speaker 2>It's because it's fucking good those things like pop off because.
<v Speaker 1>Steam is is a place where anything can happen, and
<v Speaker 1>anything could sort of break out, and people are willing
<v Speaker 1>to try new things. I don't see that from Roadblocks
<v Speaker 1>or like a robox is always just a remix of
<v Speaker 1>all these different ideas over and over and over again,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like, usually what is the most efficient way
<v Speaker 1>to separate children from money?
<v Speaker 3>And it's usually that combined with hey, what's popular on
<v Speaker 3>Steve right exactly?
<v Speaker 1>Yes, So I just I think this is a bad
<v Speaker 1>thing for gaming. Overall if we move in this direction,
<v Speaker 1>and of course that's a boomer thing. Things used to
<v Speaker 1>work one way. I wanted to continue working in that way,
<v Speaker 1>and if things are changing, that's going to scare me.
<v Speaker 1>And I recognize that, but I also think I'm right
<v Speaker 1>in that it would be worse for games overall.
<v Speaker 2>But I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see, all right, Uh, let's go ahead and take
<v Speaker 1>a break. Plenty more headlines than get into, but before
<v Speaker 1>we get to those.
<v Speaker 2>Let's hear from our sponsor. You want to skip out
<v Speaker 2>on these.

<v Speaker 1>All right, we're back. It's Game Mess Mornings. Jeff grub
<v Speaker 1>Lex Luddy LEXI, let's get back into it. Megabanks creator
<v Speaker 1>with draws from the Game Awards after nomination says I'm
<v Speaker 1>not going to feed you to my family.
<v Speaker 2>This is from Alex Hopiat Game Reactor.
<v Speaker 1>In quite an unprecedented move, A game has withdrawn from
<v Speaker 1>the Game Awards after being nominated. That game is MEGABONK,
<v Speaker 1>created by solo developer Vernadett Vedanad Yeah, Vetaad, which sold
<v Speaker 1>more than a million cop just weeks after launch. Considering
<v Speaker 1>its success, you wouldn't necessarily see a problem with Megabank
<v Speaker 1>being nominated for Best Debut Indie Game. However, then an
<v Speaker 1>ad over on Twitter said they were withdrawing from the category.
<v Speaker 1>It's an honor and a dream for Megabank to be
<v Speaker 1>nominated for TGAs, but unfortunately I don't think it qualifies
<v Speaker 1>for the category Debut Indie Game. I've made games in
<v Speaker 1>the past under different studio names, so Megabank is not
<v Speaker 1>my debut game. It's sound logic. But that would likely
<v Speaker 1>mean other nominees in the same categories, such as Clear, Obscure,
<v Speaker 1>Expedition thirty three and Dispatch would also be invalid. It
<v Speaker 1>seems more about the game being the studio's debut title
<v Speaker 1>than it being a game made by complete novices.
<v Speaker 2>But each to each of their own.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Hey, I think that the biggest problem here, LEXI
<v Speaker 1>is that these categories at the Game Awards tank They Yeah, dank.
<v Speaker 3>And they still I know that if you fill out
<v Speaker 3>you know the thing, they kind of give you an
<v Speaker 3>outline of like, hey, give you a yeah, yeah, this
<v Speaker 3>is what we mean. But they don't make those public,
<v Speaker 3>so then you just have a bunch of people arguing
<v Speaker 3>over like whether these games actually fit categories that people
<v Speaker 3>are imagining the rules for. So I'm sure there are people.
<v Speaker 3>And also some people don't read those paragraphs and don't
<v Speaker 3>research those things, So there's gonna be outlets who, you know,
<v Speaker 3>let's just say, might not be the most video game
<v Speaker 3>focused and who will be like, oh, what's a debut
<v Speaker 3>indie game. I know that I haven't heard of these
<v Speaker 3>fuckers before, and vote and things like that do happen.
<v Speaker 3>You know, there's very little in the way of actually
<v Speaker 3>highlighting what is eligible and what isn't. And yeah, it's
<v Speaker 3>just it's another reason why the Game Wards don't make
<v Speaker 3>sense as an awards show. I was looking the they
<v Speaker 3>put out the jury this year. Some interesting omissions of
<v Speaker 3>like Game Developer aren't on there, and games Industry Dot
<v Speaker 3>Biz aren't on there as far. I miss I might
<v Speaker 3>have missed them.
<v Speaker 1>One of that's because they're all they've all become ign.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if that makes any sense.
<v Speaker 3>I have no idea, but you know, there's there's kind
<v Speaker 3>of like there's big aspects of the industry that I
<v Speaker 3>feel like still aren't being hish, and there's definitely an
<v Speaker 3>imbalance in certain countries that you know, get represented that
<v Speaker 3>it's very America focused, and then Japan has like four
<v Speaker 3>or five outlets compared to like America's sixteen or something,
<v Speaker 3>so it's it's weird. But again, putting too much stock
<v Speaker 3>in the game awards is a really unhealthy way to
<v Speaker 3>think about anything because you're just inevitably going to lose
<v Speaker 3>your mind. So I would recommend just not doing that.
<v Speaker 3>You know, if you want to watch it as a
<v Speaker 3>trailer show, go nuts, that's fine.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, you can watch it as you can watch
<v Speaker 1>it as an award show. Just don't take it too seriously.
<v Speaker 1>That's the way I do it. And I tell you
<v Speaker 1>I have a pretty good time even with the awards.
<v Speaker 1>I especially think the commercials are fun because they're usually
<v Speaker 1>for especially last year was pretty exciting, I thought, and
<v Speaker 1>I even thought the awards were fine. It's just, uh,
<v Speaker 1>don't think about it too hard, because it ain't that serious, bro,
<v Speaker 1>Like that's the summation of what the game awards and.
<v Speaker 2>Where they're at is.
<v Speaker 3>It's I do really don't take.
<v Speaker 1>It more seriously than the way than the people putting
<v Speaker 1>together take it, and that is not very much.
<v Speaker 3>I do really appreciate like dreamers who need to be
<v Speaker 3>impassioned and have a take on these things, being like, ah,
<v Speaker 3>this shit is rigged, man, Like fucking arc Raders wasn't
<v Speaker 3>nominated for Game of the yearn It's like, oh, honey,
<v Speaker 3>oh honey, you have no idea how little the people
<v Speaker 3>voting for like this comes in. There's newspapers on that
<v Speaker 3>joey voting body, and it's not like the gaming departments
<v Speaker 3>of the newspapers. It's just sent to the tech editor's desk.
<v Speaker 3>And so they're like, ah, oh I heard a fucking
<v Speaker 3>God of War. Sure go with that. It's like it's
<v Speaker 3>twenty twenty five. There was no God of War this year,
<v Speaker 3>and that's what gets voted for when they vote for it.
<v Speaker 3>Like putting too much thinking that there's a grand conspiracy
<v Speaker 3>in these things. The reason Kojima always comes up when
<v Speaker 3>his products come out in these things is because a
<v Speaker 3>lot of people who report on video Games know about Kojima,
<v Speaker 3>and you know it's the whole Blue Prince thing of
<v Speaker 3>Blueprints very much. So did not get nominated this year
<v Speaker 3>because it hasn't been localized into a lot of languages,
<v Speaker 3>and about eighty percent of the voting body is non
<v Speaker 3>English speaking or at least English primary speaking. So yeah, like,
<v Speaker 3>of course, anyway, who cares? Who cares? Ultimately, who cares?
<v Speaker 3>It's a fun award show. Have fun with it if
<v Speaker 3>you want to have fun with it. Don't have fun
<v Speaker 3>with it if you don't want to have fun with
<v Speaker 3>it exactly, But Jesus Christ, just move on with your life.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's a It does become a like just this
<v Speaker 1>focal point of conversation when those nominees get announced. And
<v Speaker 1>I used to get like pretty frustrated by that because
<v Speaker 1>it's like he just woke up one day and said
<v Speaker 1>I'm the awards, and you don't have to accept that.
<v Speaker 2>When someone does that, you don't have to.
<v Speaker 1>You could just be like, I disagree, and you can
<v Speaker 1>pay put your focus on other awards, like the real
<v Speaker 1>video game awards that happen at giant bomb dot com
<v Speaker 1>each year, or the ones that developers vote on. I
<v Speaker 1>guess like dice or anywhere else to the GDC Awards.
<v Speaker 1>Those are great things, great alternatives. I've realized, you know,
<v Speaker 1>the battles are lost. He's won the war for people's attention,
<v Speaker 1>which is the thing that really matters for this stuff.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm gonna let him have it and I will
<v Speaker 1>ignore instead when people have their opinions about the nominees.
<v Speaker 1>For the most part, I'm sure i'll get sucked into
<v Speaker 1>I say I will ignore it. I'll ignore it until
<v Speaker 1>I get annoyed by something, and then I'll be a
<v Speaker 1>hypocrite because that's just human nature. But for now, for
<v Speaker 1>this year, I was just like, yeah, I have just
<v Speaker 1>no desire to have any of these conversations about any
<v Speaker 1>of these things. I'll watch the show when it's here.
<v Speaker 1>If a game I like wins, great. If a game
<v Speaker 1>I don't like wins, kid, who gives us shit? I
<v Speaker 1>just hope that some cool fun stuff shows up there,
<v Speaker 1>and I can generally cheer on video game developers at
<v Speaker 1>this thing.
<v Speaker 3>You're like Marja the horse racing in the Simpsons of like,
<v Speaker 3>can't I just bet that they all have a fun time.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, that's exactly betting. Listen, I'll bet for everyone have
<v Speaker 2>a bad time. I'll go either way on that.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, uh, all right, let's keep going here. Dragon Quest
<v Speaker 1>creator Ugi Horris thinks he'll continue working on the series
<v Speaker 1>until he dies. This is from Nintendo Everything. Retirement doesn't
<v Speaker 1>seem to be on the mind of dragon Quest A.
<v Speaker 1>Dragon Quest creator Yugi Horri. In fact, it looks like
<v Speaker 1>he's interested in continuing working until the day he dies.
<v Speaker 1>Hory spoke about his future in an interview with Game Informer.
<v Speaker 1>He spoke about his love for dragon Quest and how
<v Speaker 1>he thinks he'll be working on it until he passes away.
<v Speaker 2>That said, he wants to.
<v Speaker 1>See dragon Quest's fiftieth anniversary in twenty thirty six.
<v Speaker 2>Here's a quote.
<v Speaker 1>You know, in recent years, there's been increasingly more areas
<v Speaker 1>where I rely on the other members to work on
<v Speaker 1>parts of the dragon Quest titles, but I would still
<v Speaker 1>like to keep myself involved to oversee everything.
<v Speaker 2>I do.
<v Speaker 1>Considered dragon Quest to be my child. I just really
<v Speaker 1>love it, and in that sense, I do think I
<v Speaker 1>will work on it until I die. I think the
<v Speaker 1>next goal for me, though, is to witness the fifth
<v Speaker 1>fiftieth anniversary in twenty thirty six. Obviously, there's you know,
<v Speaker 1>dragon Quest one and two HD two D remake recently
<v Speaker 1>Dragon Quest three D or a dragon Quest three h
<v Speaker 1>D two D I should say, came out last year.
<v Speaker 1>You know, they have to talk about dragon Quest twelve,
<v Speaker 1>right or is it eleven?
<v Speaker 2>Twelve twelve?
<v Speaker 3>Right?
<v Speaker 1>Because ten was the MMO. Eleven was the last one
<v Speaker 1>we got. Now we're getting twelve. It's always hard for
<v Speaker 1>me to keep track of that. Of course we should
<v Speaker 1>get news on that at some point in the future.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, I mean part of me point.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, at some point, part of me like really respects this.
<v Speaker 1>Of like someone just found their thing and they're going
<v Speaker 1>to do it forever. I'll do this forever. So who
<v Speaker 1>am I to sit here and judge and be like,
<v Speaker 1>you should take care of yourself and go retire. People
<v Speaker 1>like to work, and it seems like he likes to work,
<v Speaker 1>so this is cool to see.
<v Speaker 3>He's an interesting I interviewed some of the team behind
<v Speaker 3>dragon Quest one plus two at games Calm this year,
<v Speaker 3>and they were talking about how when they first took
<v Speaker 3>on the project, they were considering making dragon Quest one
<v Speaker 3>a party based game. You know that game is famously
<v Speaker 3>you are just one partial member. You were just the
<v Speaker 3>one guy, and in some ways it's very bare bones
<v Speaker 3>in its role playing, and they were like, oh, we
<v Speaker 3>could add new party members, or your characters who do
<v Speaker 3>show up could join your party instead, and he was
<v Speaker 3>very much so like he came in and he was like, no,
<v Speaker 3>no way, this game is this game, and you are
<v Speaker 3>going to make this game authentic to that experience, and
<v Speaker 3>to keep out of it is that you are on
<v Speaker 3>your own. So he does definitely still involve himself in
<v Speaker 3>those projects, even you know, the side ones and the
<v Speaker 3>remakes and stuff like that, and you know, can't hate
<v Speaker 3>on that. You know, if you have something that you
<v Speaker 3>would put that much time into, I would be pretty
<v Speaker 3>protective of it too.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, for sure.
<v Speaker 1>And it's a you know, it's a series that has
<v Speaker 1>grown in popularity worldwide recently. You know, it was always
<v Speaker 1>very popular in Japan. It still is, but it seems
<v Speaker 1>like with every entry these days, especially with eleven eleven
<v Speaker 1>seemed to kind of like, oh wow, people, hey, we're
<v Speaker 1>noticing this. We used toill just like Final Fantasy over here.
<v Speaker 1>Now we're into all these games and this one is
<v Speaker 1>just as good and in some ways we like it better.
<v Speaker 1>So it would be a shame for him to like
<v Speaker 1>not to get to enjoy the fruits of all that labor.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I'm glad he's going to remain involved, and
<v Speaker 1>I'm also also glad to hear it like the idea
<v Speaker 1>of passing the baton on many of the tasks to
<v Speaker 1>other people on the team. You want to do what
<v Speaker 1>you can to grow the next generation and let people
<v Speaker 1>sort of begin to take things over, because that's probably
<v Speaker 1>good for the games and good for him.
<v Speaker 3>So cool, we'll say good luck about it.
<v Speaker 1>Square Enix, though, Yeah, you know, I think if there's
<v Speaker 1>anything that's sort of safe at Scorenix, it is the
<v Speaker 1>dragon Quest series. But like fostering the future there, oh boy,
<v Speaker 1>we'll see.
<v Speaker 3>I also think, like knowing square Enix, they wouldn't let
<v Speaker 3>him go make something else at this point. They tried
<v Speaker 3>that with Yoshida. They were like, yeah, you can make
<v Speaker 3>a Final Fantasy sixteen, and now they're like, you are
<v Speaker 3>in the Final Fantasy fourteen minds until you die. You
<v Speaker 3>are never allowed to leave there. So yeah, I don't
<v Speaker 3>think they're going to be moving those chess pieces around
<v Speaker 3>much more. I think that expect There was an argument
<v Speaker 3>had about like innovation at Square Enix, and someone has
<v Speaker 3>lost dish because Final Fantasy, not because Final Fantasy sixteen
<v Speaker 3>didn't perform, because Final Fantasy fourteen had a downturn. And
<v Speaker 3>that's a much bigger deal.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, that's where the money's made. For sure.
<v Speaker 1>Ghost to Yota is getting new game plus, new trophies,
<v Speaker 1>and more next week. This is from Jordan Midler at VGC.
<v Speaker 1>Soccer Punches confirmed that I don't know, it's some unknown.
<v Speaker 1>Soccer Punches confirmed that Ghost of yo Tab will receive
<v Speaker 1>a new game Plus mode next week. New Game Plus
<v Speaker 1>mode for Ghost of Your Table released for free on
<v Speaker 1>November twenty fourth. This update will be unlocked after the
<v Speaker 1>first time you've completed the game. A new harder difficulty
<v Speaker 1>option will also be added to the game in this.
<v Speaker 2>Update, as will two new trophies.
<v Speaker 1>A new currency, Ghost Flowers, is also coming in the update,
<v Speaker 1>will which players can exchange with a new vendor for
<v Speaker 1>thirty new cosmetic items. This includes new armor sets, weapondies,
<v Speaker 1>and charms. A new set of upgrades for the currently
<v Speaker 1>available cosmetics will also be included in the free update.
<v Speaker 2>They have new accessibility options as well.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see as is the ability to replay past story
<v Speaker 1>missions that you've already completed. It was recently claimed that
<v Speaker 1>Ghostotas are past three point three million units sold in
<v Speaker 1>its first month of avail availability, according to PlayStation.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I've seen.
<v Speaker 1>I'm seeing more and more that people are treating Ghost
<v Speaker 1>Ota as like just their game right now. It's like
<v Speaker 1>all they're playing. They want to explore every aspect of it.
<v Speaker 1>So getting this kind of thing has got to be
<v Speaker 1>good news for people who are like, maybe I'll just
<v Speaker 1>play this for the rest of the year. Couldn't be
<v Speaker 1>me too busy. I wish I had time for Ghost
<v Speaker 1>to y Ota. That's gonna be. Like I said previously,
<v Speaker 1>I think I'm gonna make time for that when there
<v Speaker 1>is like an extended period where I could just kind
<v Speaker 1>of play this for a while, because it is how
<v Speaker 1>I want to experience that game. But Ghost to Ota
<v Speaker 1>seems like it has done all the things it needed
<v Speaker 1>to do to sort of continue the momentum the first
<v Speaker 1>game built, right, Well, what do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, this for people like you and me in the industry,
<v Speaker 3>this is like the epishome of a Winter Break game. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>it's long, and you're only gonna have the ability to
<v Speaker 3>play it when you don't have commitments to other games.
<v Speaker 3>I'm pretty much the only part of the year that's
<v Speaker 3>like that anymore is the two weeks between Christmas and
<v Speaker 3>you know, the second week of January when nothing comes
<v Speaker 3>out right, And so this seems like a game that
<v Speaker 3>if I'm gonna play it, that's what I'm gonna play it,
<v Speaker 3>I play. I finally got around to go to Tushima.
<v Speaker 3>I played the first half of it this year, and
<v Speaker 3>I really enjoyed it. So I am looking at it.
<v Speaker 3>I'm like, this might be something I like, if people
<v Speaker 3>are looking for like Christmas ideas for me, I might
<v Speaker 3>just be like, yeah for me, Like that's It's not
<v Speaker 3>something I would necessarily spend seventy euro on myself at
<v Speaker 3>the moment, but it is something I would happily play
<v Speaker 3>through over the course of the Christmas break, and the
<v Speaker 3>support that they gave Sushima was pretty cool. They eventually
<v Speaker 3>added that multiplayer mode that I know people like were
<v Speaker 3>way into. So yeah, they've kind of said that there
<v Speaker 3>were one game studio, but I'm sure what some of
<v Speaker 3>that means is that, like they still have people who
<v Speaker 3>need to be working on something, you know, they can't
<v Speaker 3>just move them over to another project, right, and the
<v Speaker 3>next game isn't ready for full production, I'm sure in
<v Speaker 3>certain ways, so they probably have people who are looking
<v Speaker 3>for stuff to do. And yeah, I'm supporting Yoch for
<v Speaker 3>another little while. Makes sense, especially considering like it will
<v Speaker 3>continue to sell pretty well as it gets sales, as
<v Speaker 3>it goes down in price, it will become one of
<v Speaker 3>the games that continues to sell pretty well, you know,
<v Speaker 3>mid mid generation games that can sell into the late generation.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, yep.
<v Speaker 1>This game will also have that multiplayer mode legends. I
<v Speaker 1>think it comes out next year, which is what they
<v Speaker 1>did last time, So that'll that'll be cool to see
<v Speaker 1>and I will probably check that out.
<v Speaker 3>We had a lot of fun priorities for getting to
<v Speaker 3>for the end of the year.
<v Speaker 1>I do still have to finish Expedition thirty three. I'm
<v Speaker 1>gonna do that, and then I'm kind of like kind
<v Speaker 1>of trying to figure out do I spend my extra
<v Speaker 1>time in Death Stranding two in Kingdom Come Deliverance too,
<v Speaker 1>or I just say fuck it and go back.
<v Speaker 2>To Roadcraft and get into my own bullshit.
<v Speaker 1>There's a possibility I might do that, but I'll definitely
<v Speaker 1>finish Expedition thirty three.
<v Speaker 2>That's that's the one thing I really really want to finish.
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, the one all game, the like long game
<v Speaker 3>I still want to finish is Final Fantasy Tactics. And
<v Speaker 3>then I'm looking at some short of stuff and Roger
<v Speaker 3>Despoloche Mafia, the Old Country stuff that I can maybe
<v Speaker 3>knock out in a few settings dispatch as well, like
<v Speaker 3>the kind of the other ones I think I might
<v Speaker 3>get to. But the idea of going back and stashing
<v Speaker 3>the Upper Wills to now or Trails in the Sky,
<v Speaker 3>which I really wanted to play at some point, Instant
<v Speaker 3>Sleeper too, which I adored that first game and I
<v Speaker 3>just never got around to. Yeah, it's been a rough
<v Speaker 3>year for climbing everything in.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Or I might do Yeah conto on and chat.
<v Speaker 1>I might just play Sectory for the rest of the year.
<v Speaker 2>People.
<v Speaker 1>Check this game out. Just launched yesterday on Steam. I
<v Speaker 1>think the consoles h It is a Geometry Wars game
<v Speaker 1>with Rogue light and all that.
<v Speaker 3>It looks cool.
<v Speaker 2>It's very cool. I've been playing the hell out of
<v Speaker 2>it last night.
<v Speaker 1>It was it's got some smart ideas where it's like
<v Speaker 1>it's got this burst where you kind of like a
<v Speaker 1>charge forward, and if you charge forward into a power
<v Speaker 1>like a power up, a pickup, you immediately get that
<v Speaker 1>charge back, so you can kind of chain them together
<v Speaker 1>and so and you get those power ups on the
<v Speaker 1>screen by killing enemies and picking up the little charms
<v Speaker 1>that they drop, and so it's like you kind of
<v Speaker 1>begin building up this the cycle of like, alright, kill
<v Speaker 1>these enemies, get some power ups on the screen, maybe
<v Speaker 1>wait a moment for more enemies to pop on until
<v Speaker 1>you get overwhelmed, then charge through them into a power
<v Speaker 1>up to another charge to keep clearing them out. And
<v Speaker 1>then now you've picked up the power ups and it
<v Speaker 1>does a I think it's gradius.
<v Speaker 2>I think it's a.
<v Speaker 1>Gradiest style power up system where the more of the
<v Speaker 1>power ups you collect, the more up the chart it goes.
<v Speaker 1>And it's like if you have one power up, you
<v Speaker 1>can upgrade your speed, but if you don't spin it
<v Speaker 1>on speed, it goes up higher and eventually you can
<v Speaker 1>like upgrade your weapons or upgrade your shields and.
<v Speaker 2>Stuff like that.
<v Speaker 1>So just a really well designed game from former Housemark folks.
<v Speaker 1>So it's got that finish, you know, refinery to it.
<v Speaker 3>Not to add another game to your like backlog, but
<v Speaker 3>have you seen anything on the sayings of Blake manor.
<v Speaker 2>I've seen it. I still don't know, really know what
<v Speaker 2>kind of game it is.
<v Speaker 3>I know some people who worked on it, so obviously
<v Speaker 3>like you know and Irish. Yeah, they're all in the
<v Speaker 3>Irish games scene. But it is basically like an Irish
<v Speaker 3>version of a Return of the Obuddin about trying to
<v Speaker 3>pay back a mortgage on an extremely expensive house before
<v Speaker 3>you get kicked off the land by the English. So
<v Speaker 3>it's something that from a political view, I think you'd
<v Speaker 3>be way into, and from the costal point of view,
<v Speaker 3>I think Dan would be way into.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, very cool, everyone, I'm very proud over here.
<v Speaker 1>I just got a notification because I got one of
<v Speaker 1>those like children's debit card things for my kids. She's
<v Speaker 1>never used it before, but she had a book fair
<v Speaker 1>today and I gave it to her. I'm like, let's
<v Speaker 1>see if you could figure this out. And I just
<v Speaker 1>got a notification that she just bought some books with it.
<v Speaker 1>So good job, little girl, well done.
<v Speaker 2>Very happy. Okay, keep spending my money.
<v Speaker 1>I guess I should get used to that aspect of
<v Speaker 1>it too, huh.
<v Speaker 2>All right.
<v Speaker 1>The Analog three D is the modern n sixty four
<v Speaker 1>fans have been waiting for This is from Kyle Orland
<v Speaker 1>at Ars Technica. Really just throwing us in there to
<v Speaker 1>keep talking about this thing because I'm waiting for mine.
<v Speaker 1>Dan got sent one, Mike got sent one. They've been
<v Speaker 1>playing around with it. They both seem very happy with it.
<v Speaker 1>I got to use Dans for a little bit and
<v Speaker 1>I was I was impressed. I mean, you know, I
<v Speaker 1>know who I'm talking to. I want to ask you
<v Speaker 1>when you when you see one of these.
<v Speaker 3>Things and you I love the sixty four, how dare you.
<v Speaker 1>At sixty four? Then they tend to switch online controller
<v Speaker 1>that apparently you purchased.
<v Speaker 3>In Live Today. It took three I ordered this and
<v Speaker 3>DPD fucked up the delivery on three separate occasions. One
<v Speaker 3>of the times it was returned all the way back
<v Speaker 3>to Nintendo and I had to order it again. I
<v Speaker 3>have put up with way too much bullshit to get
<v Speaker 3>a controller. I do not like.
<v Speaker 1>So when you see all us boomers talking about this thing,
<v Speaker 1>and you might be aware of this now, I don't
<v Speaker 1>know if a lot of people know this.
<v Speaker 2>There's a lot of ways to play in sixty four games.
<v Speaker 2>How do you feel about it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, well here, I'll tell you some other ways later.
<v Speaker 1>How are you feeling about this analog device? How do
<v Speaker 1>you feel about these kinds of devices in general? Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>what are your thoughts?
<v Speaker 3>To give you an idea of how much I'm not
<v Speaker 3>interested in N sixty four stuff. When I got my
<v Speaker 3>Retroid pocket and I was setting up all the stuff,
<v Speaker 3>and I was, you know, making sure that all my
<v Speaker 3>collections ready, I did everything from like PSP and you know,
<v Speaker 3>PS one and game Boy and game Boy Color and
<v Speaker 3>sn S and then I got to N sixty four.
<v Speaker 3>I was like, I'm good. Yeah, there's none of these
<v Speaker 3>that that resonate for me. You know, it's such a
<v Speaker 3>time and place console in so many ways that it is.
<v Speaker 3>It's one of those games where I look at the
<v Speaker 3>like catalog, and every single one of the games that
<v Speaker 3>I look down, I'm like, unless I was nostalgic for this,
<v Speaker 3>I think I would get more out of playing a
<v Speaker 3>different version, or a newer version, or you know, just
<v Speaker 3>a modernized version of any of these games. Like I'm
<v Speaker 3>not looking at Smash Bros. The original Smash Bros. And
<v Speaker 3>being like, yeah, this is the one I want to play.
<v Speaker 3>You're not looking at Golden Golden Ey and being like,
<v Speaker 3>this is the first person shoot do I want to play?
<v Speaker 3>You know, like maybe from a historical context of learning
<v Speaker 3>about and kind of contextualizing that I should go back
<v Speaker 3>and play those, and I probably should, but there's very
<v Speaker 3>little on that system for me from a pure enjoyment level.
<v Speaker 3>I think this piece of hardware from the reviews I've
<v Speaker 3>been watching really fucking cool and all the textuff that
<v Speaker 3>they've been in them and I watch about half of
<v Speaker 3>my life in gamings video on it, yep, and it
<v Speaker 3>seems to be a really comprehensive bit of kish And
<v Speaker 3>I know that they do have a couple of settings
<v Speaker 3>that they're like, these aren't the best, but they have
<v Speaker 3>kind of made those aware. Analog aware of those, and
<v Speaker 3>Analog have at least acknowledged them. And there are things
<v Speaker 3>that Analog want to update, and they do update these
<v Speaker 3>consoles as time goes by. And it remains to be
<v Speaker 3>seen whether this thing will be able to load things
<v Speaker 3>off of a off of an SD card.
<v Speaker 1>They usually get jail broken eventually, sometimes take longer than
<v Speaker 1>other times, but I expect them to come.
<v Speaker 3>It was, you know, the idea of an open FPGA
<v Speaker 3>console in your living room does sound pretty nice. Sounds
<v Speaker 3>pretty nice. You know, Bluetooth connection could play pretty much
<v Speaker 3>whatever you want on it.
<v Speaker 2>It won't be open.
<v Speaker 1>FPGA doesn't seem like so it's like if other course
<v Speaker 1>gets supported on it, that'll be it'll probably be pretty limited.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, you know, I definitely have the nostalgia. I
<v Speaker 1>also have like a lot of experience with it now,
<v Speaker 1>so it's like, oh, I know there's like some deeper
<v Speaker 1>cuts that people just when you look at the library,
<v Speaker 1>you don't know that there's like these games in there
<v Speaker 1>that are worth playing when you just look at them,
<v Speaker 1>because it's like this just looks like either generic bullshit
<v Speaker 1>or maybe there probably is a better version. Well, no,
<v Speaker 1>there actually isn't a better snowboarding game than ten eighty.
<v Speaker 1>There isn't there isn't a better like water sports game
<v Speaker 1>than Wave Race. But you kind of have to like
<v Speaker 1>know that going into it.
<v Speaker 3>Did you see Chuck's message and chat?
<v Speaker 2>I try to ignore Chuck. What did he say?
<v Speaker 3>Just scroll up and just read it.
<v Speaker 1>SXU fool Nopet's not better than ten eighty. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's in sixty four controller launched to Clinton blowjob scandal
<v Speaker 1>to George W.
<v Speaker 2>Bush to nine to eleven coincidence. No, I don't think so. Yes,
<v Speaker 2>I think said those are the triggers. What I'm sorry was.
<v Speaker 3>That when you gain that hatreal department. I've said this
<v Speaker 3>a few times.
<v Speaker 2>Here's the bad news. I think it might be chuck.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, that's so no, Hey, if people want to,
<v Speaker 2>uh god.
<v Speaker 1>It's like so hard to like recommend like in sixty
<v Speaker 1>four games. You know what, here's a cool one to
<v Speaker 1>try sin in punishment. Try sin and punishment, everybody.
<v Speaker 2>That's that's a one treasure game. Oh yeah, that's a
<v Speaker 2>weird one for sure. That Okay, that's that's where the
<v Speaker 2>N sixty four really is.
<v Speaker 1>I I do think it's uh it's a debate between
<v Speaker 1>that and the Saturn and like the Dreamcast for like
<v Speaker 1>most interesting interesting console there, These are weird. It's a
<v Speaker 1>weird system with a lot of weird games and a
<v Speaker 1>lot of weird ideas, and it's probably is academically.
<v Speaker 2>Oh shit, Okay, well then we're all screwed.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's see here we should start wrapping things up.
<v Speaker 1>Tales of Bassaria Remastered announced for PS five Xbox Series
<v Speaker 1>Switching PC. It's from sal Romano publisher Banda Namco and
<v Speaker 1>developer DAG have announced Tales of Brasaria Brasaria Brasaria Remastered
<v Speaker 1>for those consoles. It will launch February twenty six, twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty six in Japan and worldwide February twenty seventh, so
<v Speaker 1>a day later. Standard version will be forty bucks. There's
<v Speaker 1>a deluxe version for sixty dollars. Yeah, I know that
<v Speaker 1>this is not.
<v Speaker 3>One because yeah, go ahead, Yeah, this one is pretty
<v Speaker 3>playable as is, like you can get it on Price
<v Speaker 3>four and thore's a lot of other Tales games that
<v Speaker 3>people have been dying for remasters of for a long
<v Speaker 3>time now that aren't playable on modern consoles, so I
<v Speaker 3>think a lot of people expecting different ones, and to
<v Speaker 3>this it's I mean, like it's nice, but you know,
<v Speaker 3>i' don't really see much of the appeal of this one,
<v Speaker 3>especially considering you can literally buy Tales of Bazaria on
<v Speaker 3>your PS four right now, and it's a pretty good
<v Speaker 3>version of that game for like maybe fifteen bucks, So
<v Speaker 3>I'm not sure.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>And then finally, Cho Aniki collection for PC now available.
<v Speaker 2>This is from Salamano at Gamatsu.
<v Speaker 1>The PC version of Cho Aniki collection, which is I
<v Speaker 1>think probably the number one homo erotic shooter that you
<v Speaker 1>can possibly get. It's now it was on Switch, it's
<v Speaker 1>now available on Steam.
<v Speaker 2>Let's see. It is ten percent off.
<v Speaker 1>Right now, so you can get it for forty four
<v Speaker 1>to ninety nine until December second, when it will go
<v Speaker 1>up to fifty dollars.
<v Speaker 3>Number four games were woke.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, this is this is when just men could be men, right,
<v Speaker 1>this is when it was just okay and you didn't
<v Speaker 1>have to have women ruining the workplace or ruining video games.
<v Speaker 1>No women here, don't worry, Manchoiki. I love these games.
<v Speaker 1>They were always a curiosity to me when I would
<v Speaker 1>read about them in video game magazines, and then finally getting.
<v Speaker 2>A chance to check them out, it was it was
<v Speaker 2>a lot of fun. They are ubsurd.
<v Speaker 1>And really that's what they're going for. It's kind of
<v Speaker 1>absurdist humor, and I don't know they're worth checking out.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, that doesn't for the headlines.
<v Speaker 1>Let's get to the poll question from yesterday's but I'm
<v Speaker 1>sorry for Monday's episode. Let's go ahead and refresh that,
<v Speaker 1>make sure we have the most recent results there.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, do you think the Zelda movie looks good.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna say yes along with fifty seven percent of respondents.
<v Speaker 2>Forty three percent said no. And that's with over two
<v Speaker 2>thousand votes, so a little bit split.
<v Speaker 1>You know, we haven't seen a ton, but early on
<v Speaker 1>I'm feeling a little bit more confident about it. So
<v Speaker 1>I'm kind of like gonna get my hopes up a
<v Speaker 1>little bit. Lexi, how about you, Like, where are you
<v Speaker 1>at with like what you've seen?
<v Speaker 3>I think the Zelda movie is COVID with the goat sauce,
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, that's that's my young person take on it.
<v Speaker 1>And then the young people out there are just out
<v Speaker 1>there coating with the goat sauce, and I'm just not
<v Speaker 1>sure how I.
<v Speaker 2>Feel about it. All right, we have a new pole
<v Speaker 2>question we'll get to in a second.
<v Speaker 1>Before we do that, though, Lexi, why don't you tell
<v Speaker 1>people where they can find you on the internet? You
<v Speaker 1>know what you have going on and all that good stuff.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, you can find me on Blue Sky at lex
<v Speaker 3>Lodi dot x y Z. I'm currently getting end of
<v Speaker 3>the year stuff ready for my own website, so getting
<v Speaker 3>like some guest pieces and some cool folks, some friends
<v Speaker 3>of this, some cool people who I met at at
<v Speaker 3>your party two years ago at LA are going to
<v Speaker 3>be jumping on the site on startmanu dot co dot
<v Speaker 3>UK this year, and yeah, I'm kind of quiet till
<v Speaker 3>the end of the year. I'll be writing something for
<v Speaker 3>you for the Game of the year lists. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I've kind of finished off my my reviews and my
<v Speaker 3>work for this year, so now it focus now focusing
<v Speaker 3>on pitching work for next year, going into John will
<v Speaker 3>in February. So if you're looking for someone to help
<v Speaker 3>you cover the early months of next year, let me know.
<v Speaker 1>All right, thank you so much. Let's see new poll question.
<v Speaker 1>Are you interested in the analog three D?
<v Speaker 2>Yes?
<v Speaker 3>No?
<v Speaker 2>What is that?
<v Speaker 1>Those are your options? Talk about it on tomorrow's show
<v Speaker 1>here on Giant Bomb. Speaking a Giant Bomb, we are
<v Speaker 1>gonna be talking about our top ten games of the
<v Speaker 1>decade here on o stream here pretty soon. We did
<v Speaker 1>that those lists for Dekou Deals and we're going to
<v Speaker 1>talk about that very quickly after.
<v Speaker 2>This, so stay tuned. Anything else, I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna try to get this is the run in
<v Speaker 1>at some point, but like I said, Dan Scott is
<v Speaker 1>a little bit busy, so we'll work around that, let
<v Speaker 1>you all know when we have some more information there.
<v Speaker 1>And then I did some more dispatch this morning, so
<v Speaker 1>I'm on episode five. I'll be I'll try to do
<v Speaker 1>episode six tomorrow morning around nine am Eastern time. All right,
<v Speaker 1>I think with all that out of the way, Lexi
<v Speaker 1>so much, Thank you so much for hanging out with
<v Speaker 1>me today and talking about video games.
<v Speaker 2>Really appreciate it anytime.
<v Speaker 3>Glove always happy to find out.
<v Speaker 1>And thank you all for watching and listening. You are
<v Speaker 1>the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a
<v Speaker 1>good one, take care of yourself and goodbye.
