00:01:02
Speaker 4: Ryan Lemon is here with me.

00:01:03
Speaker 2: Shannon is in Louisville and Ryan the excitement we had yesterday, I guess you could say tempered a little bit this morning, as neither we have yet to hear from Tyron Stokes or Rob Wright, and both guys came and left without a commitment, and Kentucky fans were a rollercoaster of emotions yesterday. I mean, like, if you were online a lot during yesterday, you saw the agony and ecstasy of humanity. It was like the old Wide World of Sports video where the guy was tumbling down the hill on the ski lift. That was kind of how it was.

00:01:44
Speaker 5: You know, you said on Monday, this is like the old school refresh day, refreshing, refreshed day after refreshing, all day Monday, all day Tuesday. I'm like, come on, man, I just like got smacked in the punching the stomach a little bit. With no news, no good news, I should say.

00:01:59
Speaker 2: So, let's just for people who aren't online all the time.

00:02:02
Speaker 4: Here's the update. No one has committed yet.

00:02:06
Speaker 2: Kentucky has zero commitments in the class beyond the guys that are returning from last year. Stokes right after the show, well, the Stokes saga feels like it was a week ago, but it actually was yesterday. Yeah, I said, he got taken to the airport I didn't say. A reader on the text machine said he got taken the airport in a blue Keia, right. People got very angry at that, very angry. And then the random guy Trilli Donovan said no, he's still there, and he was, and so everybody got mad at me, and for two hours people were like ready to send me to the you know, send me to the gallows. And then it turns out the truly Donovan guy was wrong, and he had left this morning, and he had left on the exact flight that that guy said he was on. Now, whether he was in a blue Kiya, in my mind he's always going to be in a blue KEYO.

00:02:57
Speaker 4: But we will I guess, never know if he was in a blue KEYO or not.

00:03:00
Speaker 2: But he did not commit, and Kentucky decided to wait. They're gonna wait on him, even though it's not clear what his thought process is.

00:03:11
Speaker 4: Bummer not a shock. Do you wait on him if you're Kentucky?

00:03:15
Speaker 5: Like I said yesterday, I think the fact that he's the number one recruit in the country you need this to kind of reemphasize we are Kentucky. I think you wait on him.

00:03:25
Speaker 2: I just think he's I think you have to wait on him, but like it's gonna be tough. Now, I've been told that there is a lot of money for Tyron Stokes, but it is like just for him. So they've built their roster on this idea of an amount of money.

00:03:40
Speaker 5: Uh huh.

00:03:41
Speaker 2: So let's just say theoretically, they've said, we want to spend fifteen million dollars on a roster. Okay, they have slotted for a guy in Tyron Stokes' position. Let's say it's two million. I don't know what the amount is, but let's just say it's two million. They were willing to if Tyron Stoke is six, go four over for that position, but if he doesn't come, that four is gone, so it'll just be the two. Does that make sense? Yes? So I think I actually think Tyron Stokes his money is kind of allocated to him, so he it won't have a huge effect. If he doesn't come, they'll just go get a two million dollar guy instead of it. Where I do think it matters is the longer he goes, the quality of guys that you could get to replace him goes down by the day.

00:04:29
Speaker 5: Oh yes, I mean.

00:04:30
Speaker 2: Two days ago there were only five of the top one hundred players were committed. Now it's like fifty, right, So like the amount of people is going down by the minute quickly, and you got to get a team. Louisville just got their third guy, they're about to get their fourth guy, and like, we have no guys and we don't have a lot of guys returning. So that's just a sheer numbers thing is nerve wracking. But the bigger negative is Rob Wright. So here's the situation. We couldn't really say this yesterday because we don't you don't want to jinx things because if we had said it, I think I already know I'd be getting playful for this. But it's true they thought yesterday was a formality, like bringing him here. There was a whole set of things planned. You know, you heard Jeff Gumman say, unless they screw it up, he's coming. The idea was he was, this was gonna happen here yesterday, and it didn't.

00:05:32
Speaker 4: It just didn't, and he decided he needed more time.

00:05:35
Speaker 2: I think maybe UK said, look, we got to know when by the end of the day Wednesday, So we're gonna I think I think we're gonna find out today unless you know, these things change quickly, but I don't think there's any way to spend it is very disappointing.

00:05:51
Speaker 4: This is a top five dude in a portal.

00:05:53
Speaker 2: This is a guy who can be the centerpiece of your team, right right. He can be your otago way. And I don't know how many others of those people are out there, all right. I think he was Stokes obviously is, but he in the portal. In terms of guys Kentucky's recruiting, he was like the one and they were going to get him. And then I don't know, I don't know what happened. He basically I think they said we need the night and they went home, and now we'll see what happens. Travis Brandham of twenty four to seven Sports apparently just put out an update that says he believes he's leaning BYU. Now I will say to you, I don't There's a lot of people that are using some of this as a public leverage play. But I will say this, I don't feel great about it. Hope flip flips. It flipped yesterday. Yesterday, everyone including me thought he was coming. It was like, all right, what time is our celebration didn't happen.

00:06:52
Speaker 5: We've learned these eighteen nineteen twenty year old kids changed their mind overnight a lot of times. So I kind of thought I might wake up this morning like, hey, he committed before he left town.

00:07:02
Speaker 2: The money for the money for him is essentially the same at Kentucky and BWAYU Kentucky is probably slightly more, but it's in the ballpark of the second.

00:07:15
Speaker 5: And so the Kentucky fan is thinking he's using us as leverage to get more money.

00:07:20
Speaker 2: Wrong about that, Kentucky. By you gave a final offer. Kentucky gave a final offer. Kentucky's offers higher. He just might decide not to take it. Yeah, and by the way, that's not a good sign if a kid what's less to pay it?

00:07:36
Speaker 4: By this Kentucky right like this is Kentucky.

00:07:40
Speaker 2: And I wish I could say to you, like, here's what I'd like to be able to say, because part of what I would like to do, because I think people go so far crazy online that part of what I would like to do is kind of quell the uprising. But what's hard for me is, and you've heard me talk about this for a while, none of us know what UK is doing we none of us know. I talked to pretty much everybody yesterday that does this locally, including people that don't work for us. Nobody knows. I talk to national people who know what every school is doing, and they don't know either. Nobody knows. So I'd like to be able to come on here and go don't worry. Maybe it's like bag Dad Bob, Everything's gonna be fine. But I have no idea what their plan is. I just know that part of the plan initially included that guy coming here yesterday and it didn't happen. They've always known Stokes was like fifty percent shot or less, but this one was like ninety percent. And now we'll see is it is it fifty now, is it twenty? Is?

00:08:54
Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know because I don't know the kid.

00:08:57
Speaker 2: But that's where we are.

00:08:58
Speaker 5: So the fan base, obviously the fan base is.

00:09:01
Speaker 2: The fan base is freaking out, and in my opinion, they're freaking out a little bit too much. But some freaking out I think is okay. We're like part of me is going who like are we how do we make sure we're good? Like if you want to go to a final four, you need one of these two dudes to commit, or you need zoom Diallo and a bunch of other really good dudes. Okay, and that could still happen, but the window for that is closing rapidly in my opinion.

00:09:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, because there's so much excitement going into going into this week that we're gonna maybe get maybe get both of these guys zoomed.

00:09:41
Speaker 2: So they are committed. This is the one thing I do know. They are committed. We've got to have Rob Wright or Zoomdallo. I am under the understanding that it's like one of those has to be done by the time we go to bed tonight. So if we go to bed tonight and we have neither, or we start to hear zoom Diallo's take visits to other school, then I'm really gonna work.

00:10:02
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:10:02
Speaker 2: I think Rob Bright is a step up from zoom Diallo, but I think zoom Diallo is still really good.

00:10:08
Speaker 5: So he's like one A and one B.

00:10:10
Speaker 2: No, I think it's a one in a two okay, But I think the two is okay if you can get a lot of other good guys. But when you look at the board, a lot of other good guys they can get them, but they're gonna have to like run what do you call in cards, They're gonna have to run, have a perfect draw like everything else is gonna have to work. And some of the dudes they're looking at, you know, macgoo Gwath decided to go to de Paul yesterday. That's a perfect example though, of where De Paul's gonna pay him like their best player. We were gonna pay him like we was his fourth best player, and he's gonna go take the money to be the best. Mcgooquath going to de Paul is a perfect example of how NIL in some way levels the playing field because it allows a team like DePaul to pay a dude as a first Now, De Paul may still end up stinking, but they can take that player.

00:10:55
Speaker 5: So I think another thing the narrative I've seen online is that if Kentucky misses out on some of these big name guys, they're gonna overpay just to fill their roster with other guys.

00:11:06
Speaker 2: I think that'll probably happen. And then I think what happens is and is there could be a period where all of a sudden, like we don't even know our team for a while, and we get all guys from overseas. I do think that's I do think that's a possibility because like I was told so so I was talking to a national guy and it's not it's actually one of the kind of secondary national people. And they were like, look, there's there are not enough players from some schools that need players. So they were like, who's Arkansas gonna get next year? Right? They were like, Arkansas has no point. They have the kid from Georgia. And then like if Thomas goes to the draft here, they were like, who's gonna be on their team? They the national media is like, who is Kentucky gonna have? Arizona needs players, like big time programs need players, and they're like, some of these there's not enough players.

00:11:57
Speaker 5: They're gonna have to go overseas and again to fill the roster.

00:12:00
Speaker 2: And they said there's some value in that because there's those people are that those guys are cheaper.

00:12:03
Speaker 4: But regardless, I don't want Kentucky to get to.

00:12:06
Speaker 2: The point that like we're gonna have to look at film of a grease point a Greek point guard and you know Grainy and go, I guess that's our guy.

00:12:14
Speaker 5: You know, Illinois kind of did that the last couple of years.

00:12:17
Speaker 2: They did, and it worked.

00:12:18
Speaker 5: It worked for them.

00:12:19
Speaker 2: But you know, I don't know. We've brought in what Yellowitch and big Z Yeah, who was like the seventh man at Illinois. Yeah, so so I don't I mean, so, where do you have to be bombed? I'm bombed? Like they had it, They had it yesterday and and it didn't happen. Now, maybe it still happens. Maybe he commits today.

00:12:40
Speaker 4: I'm not. I'm not giving up because if he commits.

00:12:43
Speaker 2: Today, then who cares that if it was a day later, Right, But they had it yesterday, they had a whole game plan and stuff and then didn't happen.

00:12:52
Speaker 5: Maybe he wanted here's the optimist view. Maybe you wanted to just go home and just you know, just tell mom and grab all before he told everybody.

00:12:58
Speaker 2: Else got them. We're not a real view, you know, and and and and part of it is like from from a pr standpoint again, you know, you get everybody's hopes up.

00:13:13
Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, the fall as good as it was.

00:13:17
Speaker 2: The day that they put the banners up and all that stuff. If everybody does that, you know, it has to work.

00:13:25
Speaker 5: You can't strike out, you can't strike out.

00:13:28
Speaker 2: The Stokes thing. I think our fans understand, we're we're rolling the dice there. Come on in Fels, you can just say you're rolling the dice there. But the right thing was I mean, remember Jeff Goodman said, unless they screw it up, he's come.

00:13:41
Speaker 5: So is Donnie Freeman here today?

00:13:44
Speaker 2: Yes, he came, he came. That's another thing, Like you know, they people put out yesterday Donnie Freeman was skipping his visit. That wasn't true either. And he's here, he's here, and and Kentucky can could get him. They might getting today. I don't know.

00:14:01
Speaker 4: But at this point here's what.

00:14:02
Speaker 2: I will say. What is disappointing to me about UK's recruiting right now is pretty much, if you look across the board, when a player gets connected to a school, that.

00:14:17
Speaker 4: School locks it up.

00:14:20
Speaker 2: Just look around. Every time we've seen player connected to a school, they lock it up. We just can't seem to lock it up. And why, And there's I think there's a lot of reasonable questions as to why in this case. You know, I've had criticisms of Jami and I still may and I still do occasionally, but in this case, the money is there and they and they're still not so so, at least in Rob Wright's case, you can't blame the structural anything.

00:14:52
Speaker 4: It's there.

00:14:53
Speaker 2: Kentucky is offering more money than BYU and he might still go back to BYU. And it's b Yu shennon who I mean, no offense like if you, if you, if you were, if you were part of that faith, I understand it, or if you're from you. This kid has no connection to that state.

00:15:09
Speaker 3: If you lose to like Duke or no dukes b Yu, that's concerning.

00:15:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, con Chandler, I get it because that's his home and he's Mormon, but like, this kid has no connection to b Yu.

00:15:22
Speaker 5: And this isn't just the one off thing last year, you know, with Yaxel and Wilkerson and Dimery.

00:15:27
Speaker 2: But I said on those guys, yeah, no, you're right, you're right.

00:15:34
Speaker 4: So I am.

00:15:35
Speaker 2: I'm bummed. I mean, I'm not ready to jump off the cliff yet. I think it is important. Let let it play out. But I was really confident, Like Monday night, I drove by those kids house that had the banners and I waved and I was really confident. I was like, we're gonna be doing a show here Thursday. Even if we don't get Stokes, we're gonna probably have at least Freeman and and uh and Rye. We'll do a show here Thursday and it'll be a party. And then last night I was like, man, in forty eight hours, I have a different view.

00:16:06
Speaker 5: You can, like you said, you could see it on social media the way our fan base just got bummed along of the day went on, the more depressing it got to be on social media.

00:16:13
Speaker 2: And that's and the toxic parts of the fan base they this feeds them, yes, because like, yes, it's it. Well, we'll see how it ends up. But it was a it was a poor twenty four hours. We'll take a break, A five nine, twenty two eighty seven, give us a call.

00:16:28
Speaker 4: There could be news that comes during these two hours.

00:16:31
Speaker 2: The other thing is, Man, people in Chevy Chase decided they wanted to talk to me yesterday.

00:16:37
Speaker 5: Did you get more replies about Chevy Chase or about on Twitter?

00:16:41
Speaker 4: It was it was all a Twitter and Chase boards basketball.

00:16:44
Speaker 2: But on the text machine, you would have think somebody put that in a Chevy Chase Facebook group. They may have, they may have. We'll take a break, and be right back. Cancer, welcome back, take you sports radio. Some questions here, one person rantings Matt do at some point we have to say that this staff just can't close and maybe are have difficulties interacting with players. I don't know, but I can understand why people would guess that. Again, I've said this many times. You're gonna hear me say it until I'm blue in the face. I know it wears people out because they'll go, Matt, you're just saying that because they won't talk to you. It's just the truth. P R one oh one. Don't be silent. When you're silent, the void is filled by rumor. Go look at what happened. We're we may talk about it later with Diana Russini and Mike Rabel. Right, those pictures came out and I don't know what the truth is on that, but nobody said a word for a week, and the story just got bigger and bigger and bigger, and now eventually she's had to resign. She finally made a statement. Vrabel keeps pushing off his press conferences, but at somebody he's gonna do one, and guess what's gonna happen.

00:17:46
Speaker 4: He's gonna get asked about.

00:17:47
Speaker 2: Absolutely and so like by not doing anything initially, I think they thought it would just go away. It never goes away, right, You've got it. You have to dress stuff head on. By them being signed and UK like not talking to the press, then people the worst beliefs people can they gain oxygen. So yesterday they were like random screenshot of text chats coming on of people saying things and I don't even know if the people that they claimed were saying them.

00:18:18
Speaker 5: We're saying them.

00:18:19
Speaker 2: But they take on a life of their own because there's no information to counter it. Yes, and that's terrible. Pr So is it Mark Pope can't relate to guys. I don't know, but I need another explanation if it's not. And nobody gives one the original question about the staff. We do have some new faces on the staff this year. Yeah, we have Mario has a Mario spy right now, look at him. He is a Mario spy right now. Freeman is with Pope, Moe, Williams, Malachi and Cam at a Lexington location which we will not say. So so that's happening right now, which makes me feel in a public like not not in a room.

00:19:07
Speaker 5: Makes me feel, makes you feel what good?

00:19:09
Speaker 2: I mean they were in public locations with the other guys too that I like Carsons. We got to stop taking people. We're on a z We're on an over street right now on Carson's. As good as the food is. I think that's where you take my mom and Larry. I don't know that that's I don't think that's been working either. No One person writes Matt Howe, do you think we will have a point guard at the end of today? Yes, I do. I think if I think if rod Bright doesn't give him an answer, I think zoom Diallo, Zoom Diallo will come here. And if he doesn't, then you should really get work because then there's really no really good backup option. And they will have struck out on their top two guys after offering them more money than anyone else did. And that's a.

00:19:56
Speaker 5: Bad sign because, like we said, the.

00:19:57
Speaker 2: Zoomallo, by the way, I would say, is like Lamont Butler, probably right in the Lamont Butler range. I think Rob Wright's better than Lamont Butler, which is partially why I wanted it.

00:20:08
Speaker 5: If they'd miss out on then, and like I said, then they'll probably overpay for a point guard that maybe is not as good.

00:20:13
Speaker 4: There's not that many left.

00:20:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. He's not as good as what we had.

00:20:18
Speaker 2: Yeah. By the way, one one person I did talk to last night who knows this class really well, said, look, Matt, here's one thing you should tell your fans. The top ten guys on these lists are better than everybody else. Rob Wright's one of the top ten, he said, But god eleven through guy seventy five, it's not that much different. He goes a lot of it's just fit and whether or not. And he was like, ask people in your fan base, who would you rather have? Colin Chandler, Mo Diabat, Denzel Aberdeen, Brandon Garrison, Jasper Johnson. He was like, everybody's gonna give you different answers, right, That's kind of how it is for all of these teams team too well or you know these other guys, And that makes sense to me.

00:20:58
Speaker 5: When ye're one. They did a good job of picking out those guys to fill their roster, you know, with guys from Drexel and Ferry Dickinson and guys like that.

00:21:06
Speaker 4: Do you think Jasper's gonna go to Arkansas.

00:21:08
Speaker 5: I do, I kind of have a gut feeling that's why he's gonna end up.

00:21:11
Speaker 2: Gut feelings are usually more than a gut when it comes to that group.

00:21:16
Speaker 5: I do not know. I'm saying that's my gut feeling, so put that on me. He switched it. I mean, Cal apparently was in town.

00:21:24
Speaker 2: But apparently, but like to give an example, I mean, if Cal gets him, he's getting Jasper to start. Yes, So you know what, That's why I'm saying that lots of teams don't have a roster. Jasper's not even on the top hundred list, and he would go to Arkansas and probably start start. Yeah. So one person writes in here, Matt, do you think our fan base contributes to this with the toxicity? No? Not really. I mean I I think that's an easy excuse. First of all, you gotta remember, only like one percent of the world is on Twitter, right, Like, It's like, let me ask you, fellows, are you guys on Twitter a lot? You are you too? Aren't?

00:22:06
Speaker 4: Are you on Twitter a lot? Neither of you are on.

00:22:09
Speaker 2: Mario's only on occasionally, Shannon, Aren't Mario's not on at all? Shannon?

00:22:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm on Twitter.

00:22:15
Speaker 2: Ait, yeah, Mario said, he's not on Shannon's on something. My point is we we I just broke my necklace.

00:22:20
Speaker 5: Oh you did?

00:22:21
Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, my buddy's daughter paid that for me.

00:22:25
Speaker 3: Oh okay, I thought it was the white necklace.

00:22:27
Speaker 4: There's not the white and it went every swing all right?

00:22:30
Speaker 2: What was I saying? Oh? Twitter?

00:22:32
Speaker 5: Yeah?

00:22:33
Speaker 2: So I think a lot of it is if you're online, a lot it feels more than it is in the real.

00:22:37
Speaker 5: World, because it was pretty toxic yesterday as the day went on.

00:22:41
Speaker 2: But but, but but I think also Louisville getting a lot of guys.

00:22:45
Speaker 5: That doesn't help Louis's career.

00:22:47
Speaker 4: Louis's gonna have the most expensive roster in the country nixt year.

00:22:50
Speaker 5: How are they getting all that money. Where's that money coming from?

00:22:53
Speaker 2: I don't know. Planet Fitness must be having a lot of memberships. All right, we'll take your calls. R after this KNSR. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll make them pay now.

00:23:08
Speaker 3: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:12
Speaker 2: Welcome back. Tekey Sports Radio AFF nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven Text machine is seven seven two four five two five four.

00:23:19
Speaker 4: I had a very good source. Just send me. It'll be Bama, Arkansas or Georgia for Jasper joints.

00:23:26
Speaker 2: So there you go.

00:23:27
Speaker 5: Heard the bamaun in Arkansas. George is a new name into the mix.

00:23:30
Speaker 4: They well, if he goes to Georgia, just remember where you heard it from.

00:23:33
Speaker 5: I remember where I heard it first. Will you yeah? And you'll say I will broadcast it forever.

00:23:38
Speaker 4: One person writes Matt.

00:23:40
Speaker 2: Two years ago, Ryan was great at his locks as to who we were gonna get. Last year he struggled. Yep. I have a feeling that's in every other year thing for Ryan. So who are his lots? Has he heard any locks so far? Nope?

00:23:54
Speaker 5: I'm telling you I think we all learned last year that the transfer portal people is an overnight thing. Whoever can it's a bidding war and so making out bid the other person in the next day.

00:24:05
Speaker 2: Uh, we will go to the phone.

00:24:07
Speaker 4: What do you think about LaMelo Ball?

00:24:08
Speaker 2: Should he have gotten kicked out for grabbing Bam last night in that game?

00:24:12
Speaker 5: That was dirty? I think it a dirty play like that, you kicked the kid out. I don't care who it is I'm not just saying clear. It was Bam and Melo that we don't like. That was a dirty play last night I thought.

00:24:22
Speaker 2: It was pretty dirty.

00:24:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I thought he you know, he he'd done it before.

00:24:28
Speaker 5: Did you see he did it two years He didn't know that to say he did it to Bam two years ago, diet.

00:24:31
Speaker 2: It to two years ago.

00:24:32
Speaker 4: I mean, I bet he wasn't trying to hurt him.

00:24:35
Speaker 5: Probably not, but he did hurt it. And so it's a dirty play.

00:24:39
Speaker 2: So it's a dirty play. I mean, and he should have been kicked out. Bam can't play then then he should not.

00:24:44
Speaker 5: Play playing game. The playoffs was a big deal.

00:24:47
Speaker 2: Great game though, did you watch it?

00:24:49
Speaker 5: Didn't watch anything?

00:24:49
Speaker 2: Oh, it was awesome. I mean back and forth, big shots down the stretch and Tyler Hero made some plays. Tyler Herro hit a.

00:24:57
Speaker 4: Couple of crazy shots to get him there. But he should have been kicked out.

00:25:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, And like I said, it's not the environment.

00:25:02
Speaker 4: Too, Charlotte's had I had a heck of environment.

00:25:05
Speaker 5: Just because it was Bam. We love Bam and I goes mellow and we were anti mellow when he was playing at U c l A you just can't do that. They can't allow that kind of play, no matter what level.

00:25:14
Speaker 2: All right, I'm a little hesitant because you don't know what the fans are gonna be like here. But let's see what we got. Let's go the phone, Shannon, who's up first, William? Go ahead, William, Hey, good morning. Talking about fire people all the time? Who is hang on? Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. I've never talked about fireing anybody. No, I mean, hang on, don't just you don't hang on. Don't just come in here and say that I say things I don't say. I've never one time said anyone should be fired except Joker Phillips in whatever year. Uh that was? So you So you're either not a listener or or you're just lying. And since there's a lot of people listening right now that don't normally listen, I want to be clear.

00:26:05
Speaker 4: I'd have never said to fire anybody. Now go ahead.

00:26:09
Speaker 6: Okay, Well, I don't know if it's an AI picture, but whoever took that picture of you with your knee up on a box, you'd get fired because that is.

00:26:17
Speaker 2: Not all right. Well, I appreciate the call. I appreciate what I appreciate the call.

00:26:21
Speaker 5: Good start yesterday, we starting with Burt Kreischer today.

00:26:25
Speaker 2: By the way, I'll bot hang on. I ol Bert Kreischer an apology. I forgot about something. Okay, someone reminded me he came on this show. He did.

00:26:34
Speaker 5: I was gonna say that yesterday, but it wasn't for sure.

00:26:36
Speaker 2: Why didn't you say it? I feel now I feel bad. He did come on this show during COVID when we did that whole see who you can get to call in? You remember that, and someone got Burt Kreischer to call in, and then he talked positively about us on his podcast. He did, Yeah, he said that we were like a lot of fun. So now I feel now I feel bad because he was nice to us. And so I'm still not gonna say I'm a huge fan of the comedy, but he was a nice guy when he was on here, and so I owed Bert Chrisher an apology.

00:27:11
Speaker 5: Well, I hope he doesn't hear what we said yesterday and talk bad about us now.

00:27:14
Speaker 2: But if if he does, I hope he hears me saying now now I remember, I'd forgotten that because when we had him on those years ago, I didn't know who he was, remember, and then we rose.

00:27:23
Speaker 4: He was a big deal and and and he's blown up since then.

00:27:26
Speaker 5: But see I almost said that, but I wasn't really one of PRETENTI and you were supposed.

00:27:31
Speaker 2: To correct me yesterday. I didn't know that i'd forgotten about it. I don't. I hadn't forgotten about it until until until somebody said it. So anyway, who's up next, Morris? Morris, go ahead, Morris. Yeah. Two points.

00:27:44
Speaker 6: First, it's too bad this isn't happening later in the summer, because we could take it up a notch by learning the flight pads of the recruits and have our farmers cut banners in the corn like they two corn mazes.

00:27:54
Speaker 2: That would have been good. Yeah.

00:27:57
Speaker 6: And second, I'm trying not to panic. Can still be POSSI I'm still positive overall, because you know Pope's first year, I didn't really know the guys we got other than maybe Lamont Butler because of the attorney. But I'm getting to wonder if a player already has a relationship with another school, or maybe they have a geographic preference. If their agent just says, go to Kentucky to get a number to up your value, I'm hoping we're not becoming the getting the reputation to shock Kentucky so you can take it to another school.

00:28:22
Speaker 2: I mean, we might be, but I think the appreciate the call. We're not the only school that gets used to up offers for other schools.

00:28:30
Speaker 4: The question is why can't we Why can't we close? That's that's the question.

00:28:33
Speaker 2: These other schools are closing, all of them. They get a guy on campus.

00:28:38
Speaker 4: It's over.

00:28:40
Speaker 2: We're not.

00:28:42
Speaker 5: Like I said, I think, what.

00:28:43
Speaker 2: Do you think it is? I did a lot of talking in that first thirty minutes. What do you think it is?

00:28:48
Speaker 5: I mean, you you hear things I think. I hate to say it, but until we do in our show.

00:28:55
Speaker 4: No, it's be clear. This is what he saved.

00:28:58
Speaker 2: Just for the record, non asssion, and I want to I want to be very clear that whatever he's about to say, this is Ryan Lemon saying it, not me. Now go ahead.

00:29:07
Speaker 5: It appears that maybe our coaching staff is having a hard time to connecting with these younger players, not just the recruits, but even the guys behind the team. Last year, it just.

00:29:20
Speaker 4: Seems why do you think that is?

00:29:21
Speaker 5: I don't know, I really I honestly don't know. But it just seems like, do.

00:29:26
Speaker 3: You think there's just selling the front of the jersey?

00:29:30
Speaker 2: Maybe maybe Kentucky.

00:29:33
Speaker 4: The problem is I don't know.

00:29:35
Speaker 2: Okay, So this is a hard conversation to have because it is because he Mark is a is a great guy, yep. And I've only had one long conversation with him and then a couple of shorter conversations. He is really nice, but he's like, he's really nice, and he's really intense, but he also, like, I don't know, he doesn't necessarily put you at ease because he's almost I just wonder. I do wonder if he can relate to the guys, and I think Mo Williams helps, But then I wonder how many of the guys on the staff could relate to those guys.

00:30:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. If you've got again, it's horrible to say, but you got a Mark Fox and a Mark Pope? Can they relate to the younger kids? And the longer this goes on, it seems like there is an issue. I mean, it's not the money, it's not the facility, it's not their tradition, it's not the program. What is it? Then?

00:30:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we're not getting the at least what the guys we're talking about so far, we're not getting out bid like they're just I mean, in the Rob Wright situation, I think if he goes to BYU, he might have taken slightly less money to do that.

00:30:51
Speaker 5: That's a big slap in your face. And he goes back to b why b YU for less money and plan at Kentucky can Tucky for more money.

00:31:02
Speaker 4: That Colin Chandler went to b YU for more money.

00:31:05
Speaker 2: B YU was willing to pay like a million more dollars for Colin than we were. I can't begrudge that. I also don't blame Pope for that. I really don't like, what are you supposed to do? But look, if you don't get a guy who you offered more money and they still go somewhere else to be why you.

00:31:25
Speaker 5: You can't even have any pouchrick of powp on that campus.

00:31:29
Speaker 2: I knew, I knew you were going to say that. The question, the question, Shannon was just win and that's why I called this police officer to take you away.

00:31:36
Speaker 5: You guys on fire?

00:31:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, what's it was? Next? Let's go to Randall.

00:31:40
Speaker 4: Randall, go ahead, Randall, I bout man.

00:31:43
Speaker 7: Uh, I just got suggestion, you know, the coach for the coaching staff, if ditch Carson's and take the kids down to Malibu Jacks, get some pictures with you know, Donnimo and all the guys ride and go cards. That'd be that put a little uh excited.

00:32:00
Speaker 2: Was a little cheesy though to me too, I feel like that's I feel like that's sort of well.

00:32:05
Speaker 8: Well, either that or get you know, Mark behind the desk like the Godfather and and you got Mark Fox up there on the shoulder like Sonny and they got the contracts on the desk.

00:32:16
Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, you're you're you're saying things that would you're saying things that would be like a pre like what fifty five year old men would want to come. That's not what college kid I would say, Well just put send them to a party on campus or you know, I don't know.

00:32:35
Speaker 4: I appreciate the call. Whatever it is, it's not working.

00:32:39
Speaker 5: It's not like I said, this is not just a one off thing. Right now, we can go back to last year. They kind of whiffed on their main targets last year.

00:32:45
Speaker 2: What if, though, like this afternoon, you just were to get a commitment from Rob, right, would everybody be good?

00:32:51
Speaker 5: I'm changing my mind immediately.

00:32:52
Speaker 2: All right, what if every what if you were to get a commitment from Zoom Diallo this afternoon? Then what happens?

00:32:57
Speaker 5: I'm excited, but not as excited.

00:32:59
Speaker 2: I think that's fair. Are you willing to kind of take a deep breath and then see what happens with the rest of the class If.

00:33:05
Speaker 5: We get like say, Zoom Yellow and then a Donnie Freeman? Okay, well, now I.

00:33:09
Speaker 2: Think the kid from Furman, they got a really good chance of getting him.

00:33:13
Speaker 4: The Alex Wilkins, who I think is good.

00:33:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, I a shooter, I was told as talented as anybody, just kind.

00:33:22
Speaker 5: Of wild, wild as a player, not as a person.

00:33:27
Speaker 2: And it's Kentucky. It's Kentucky or Yukon for him. But I think we're offering slightly more money, which again, if he goes to Yukon when we're offering more money, that's also a you know, and.

00:33:39
Speaker 5: For a young twenty two year twenty year old kid, Yukon's been the team.

00:33:42
Speaker 2: So what if we end up at the end of the week we have Zoom Diallo, Alex.

00:33:46
Speaker 4: Wilkins, and Donnie Freeman, Where are you.

00:33:48
Speaker 5: Then, Adam with Malachai and Cam I am I'm not thinking we're final four bound, but that's a squad I could get behind. I think I think it's solid, solid.

00:33:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, times people avoid thinking about their roof. Nobody spends a lot of time doing it, but it is the most ignored part of the home. Ryan, something breaks in your kitchen, you fix it, but with a roof you can put it off. But that's why I like CRC Roofing and renovations. They make the process simple. They'll come over tell you what your option are is. They do roofing, gutters, siding, windows, and more things that protect your house from Kentucky weather eight five nine three two seven thirty nine thirteen and through the end of May ASR listeners can save up to one thousand dollars.

00:34:26
Speaker 5: Wow.

00:34:26
Speaker 2: If they choose CRC Roofing, it's CRC roofing A five nine three two seven thirty nine thirteen the team you want on your roof. We'll take a break and be right back here at Kspar next hour. I do have to bring up Chevy Chase. There are concerned citizens, including friends of mine, that are the first time they've gotten mad at me.

00:34:48
Speaker 5: Oh is it really what you said yesterday?

00:34:50
Speaker 2: O man, friends, We'll be right back, welcome back. Take you smarts Radium nine two eight twenty two eighty seven and the text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five for One person writes, you have never said that you want anybody to be fired, but you do. But you didn't address the substance of what he said, which is that picture. I like that picture. It's worked very well for me. That's your Uh. I mean you're glamor shot because people aren't used to seeing me like that. I understand, but uh yeah, I'm a fan of that picture. That picture is their picture. People that really like that picture.

00:35:30
Speaker 5: The most important thing to do. The ladies like the picture.

00:35:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, okay, and not worry about whether a dude likes me or Mario or Drew or who cares if a guy likes about I didn't take the picture for for Mario.

00:35:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, we kind of made fun of you at that picture.

00:35:42
Speaker 2: You should trap picture.

00:35:44
Speaker 4: It's a thirst trap, is exactly right. That's my thirst trap picture.

00:35:48
Speaker 2: It should be. That's my version of Shannon when he wore those little skimpies in the ring that one time. It's it's his thirst trap picture.

00:35:56
Speaker 5: Sometimes I need a good laugh. I just pulled that picture up of Shannon any Speedo and just that's a great.

00:36:01
Speaker 2: Yeah. I agree he.

00:36:03
Speaker 4: Is jealous, are you? I decided not to go to WrestleMania.

00:36:06
Speaker 2: I was thinking about flying out to Vegas and going, but I decided not to just goot a lot of money to get out there, go and then come back.

00:36:13
Speaker 5: And he was going to the concert Middlesborough this weekend instead.

00:36:17
Speaker 2: What concert did you say?

00:36:18
Speaker 5: There's like a big concert Dwight Yoakam.

00:36:19
Speaker 2: Dwight Yoakam is in Lexington. Is right outside my door.

00:36:23
Speaker 5: I thought I was in Middlesborough.

00:36:25
Speaker 2: No, it's in Lexington. It's at the It's at the park at Goton Park. Dwight Yoakum and zz Top come on, Dwight Yoakam. When I was a kid, that was my favorite artist. You can't miss that. Then, can I say one thing before we go back the phone? Yeah, I finally have found a policy. People have asked me for years, Matt, you dirty liberal? Why can't you ever say anything good about Trump? I've got something good to say about Trump. I saw today I saw yesterday he said that he believes his favorite thing in life is die coke. He said. Now he went further, a little more than I would. He said he thinks dik coke can help cure cancer because he said, when you pour it on grass, it kills grass. First of all, I'm not even is that even true. If you pour it on grass, it kills grass. I know.

00:37:13
Speaker 3: Never you could take corrosion off of like your battery on a car.

00:37:16
Speaker 2: If you I've seen that. I need to be careful because I have die cokes and now I have grass, so I need to be careful.

00:37:22
Speaker 5: If that's true.

00:37:24
Speaker 2: I also don't understand the scientific lea between if you pour it on grass it will also then kill cancers grass cancer. I'm I don't. I don't know, but I will say this leave all the specifics to the side. He is right about die coke. It's one of the things we should And you know he also apparently does not like dogs. The okay, don't bring up the golf thing. I know what you're gonna say, shit that he cheat on golf.

00:37:51
Speaker 4: I think just a better spot sometimes like.

00:37:56
Speaker 5: McDonald, Do you like that?

00:37:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like me.

00:37:57
Speaker 4: Don I'm not a McDonald's food guy. I'm a diet cokey.

00:38:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, but you're there in the line every.

00:38:02
Speaker 4: So we have a policy that we agree with.

00:38:04
Speaker 2: That's a good, good start, good start, bipartisan compromise.

00:38:07
Speaker 5: There is some magic in the diet coke. I don't know if it'll kill grass. I don't hope it killed cancer, but there is a little magic anything.

00:38:12
Speaker 2: Though that it kills grass. I have never heard he said that, like everybody knows it kills grass, and I didn't think that was true. But maybe.

00:38:21
Speaker 4: So who's up next, Tyler?

00:38:23
Speaker 2: Tyler?

00:38:23
Speaker 9: Go ahead, Tyler, Hey man, I've got two things. First is I'm not really I listened almost to say the day, but I'm not. I haven't heard you mentioned anything about it. But I wanted to get your two cents on Denzel Aberdeen going back to Florida.

00:38:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, we didn't talk about that. So Denzel Aberdeen is entering the portal. He's asking for a fifth year. I have no idea if I think you'll get it now. They are probably gonna give everybody a fifth year, like a five year thing, But I.

00:38:50
Speaker 4: Don't know if that will apply to these guys.

00:38:52
Speaker 2: Maybe Aberdeen's hoping it will him going back to Florida. Be honest with you, not a good sign, not a great sign that a kid comes here and then decides to go back where he was originally, especially since he was good here. It's not like it's not like he didn't play. He was good here and we liked him, and so yeah, I didn't love that.

00:39:11
Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean he was one of her best players.

00:39:13
Speaker 2: He was our second best player. Yeah.

00:39:15
Speaker 4: Times he was our first best player down the stretch.

00:39:19
Speaker 9: My second thing was just me personally. The way Stokes had gone this whole thing out so so long, it's making me want him less and less.

00:39:29
Speaker 2: That's yeah, I mean I think, you know what, I appreciate the call. You know with Tyron Stokes, what you're what you're getting when you sign up. You know how you can meet somebody. You gotta be careful with this analogy. You know how you can like date somebody and you know this person is beautiful or this person is fun, but you know you're signing up for a lot of extra stuff, drama. You just know, Okay, this is this is a this is a you know, a Miss Kentucky. But there's gonna be a lot that comes with it. That's what Tyron Stokes is. You're gonna be signing up for stuff. But I think the different the reason I want him is the good thing about Tyron Stokes is there's drama, but when the game starts, he's everything you want. He's a team player, he's a great passer, he's unselfish, his teammates love him. You get all this other stuff off the court, but when the game starts, so he doesn't bring that.

00:40:32
Speaker 4: Drama on the court like some guys do.

00:40:35
Speaker 2: Does that make sense? I think that DeMarcus a perfect DeMarcus. He's the best example about that. You know, DeMarcus had you had to I love DeMarcus, but people had to deal with stuff. But when he played, he played unselfishly and he gave it his all, and you gave every got everything you want.

00:40:49
Speaker 5: That's why I think if you're Mark Pope, you gotta wait. If the guy's gonna wait a couple weeks, I think you have to wait a couple weeks to see if you can get him, gets you two more weeks to kind of work on him as well, try to convince him to come here.

00:40:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, one person, it's Matt If Trump comes out against pickleball. Does that help? Yes?

00:41:03
Speaker 4: Now we're starting to build, We're starting to build an agenda.

00:41:07
Speaker 5: Wow, he is running, mate, No, I think.

00:41:11
Speaker 2: Hopefully he doesn't run for anything again. What's next? Let's go to Joey. Joey, go ahead, Joey.

00:41:17
Speaker 10: Uh yeah, I'd like to throw out maybe a crazy hypothetical. Okay, we know how things played out with Caliperry and Kenny Payne. Yes, you foreseeing a possible world ever where the coach that's out there that has said the worst mistake he ever made was leaving Kentucky would possibly come back to UK and Pope would assist him.

00:41:44
Speaker 2: No, I do not. Yeah, no, there's I mean you can't Okay, No, No, I mean Kenny Payne went to Arkansas, but Kenny Payne did not become Cow's assistant at Louisville, right, So no. Now could I see a world where Mark Pope was Leftentucky, if he was fired and he went and became an assistant at Saint John's for Rick, Yeah, I could see that work, yes, But I could not see a world that Rick came and became the head coach in Kentucky with Marcus his assistant.

00:42:11
Speaker 4: I do not think that would happen, though a lot of appreciate.

00:42:14
Speaker 5: Well, I would like to see that. I think it is not gonna happen.

00:42:16
Speaker 2: Not gonna happen. All Right, we'll take a break. I number two talk a little bit bit more about this in Chevy Chase KSI
