00:00:14 Speaker 1: Hi, Sabrina. Hi will so quick question before we start today. Okay, would you rather be way too small or way too big? 00:00:24 Speaker 2: Oh? There's so many advantages to both of them, I. 00:00:29 Speaker 3: Think, and disadvantages. 00:00:30 Speaker 1: Your glasses half full kind of goal, because I would have said, there's a lot of disadvantages to both. You have right, two advantages. It's very stet. 00:00:40 Speaker 2: I think I want to be way too small. I think it would be I don't know, like way too big would be like where do you go? Where do you sleep? 00:00:51 Speaker 1: Like? But way too small it's like I imagine way too small is constantly dangerous. 00:00:57 Speaker 2: Yes, that is true. 00:00:58 Speaker 1: I don't know. 00:00:59 Speaker 3: You're right pros and constant both and you can't. 00:01:01 Speaker 2: Go far right like you're never traveling, right, I mean, yeah, have you got yourself to like the airport? Maybe you'd just always be traveling. 00:01:11 Speaker 3: Well, nobody would know that. I mean, you could just sneak through. 00:01:13 Speaker 1: But then again, think about like let's just take let's just take Lax. Think about just from the door to Lax to the plan to the plane. 00:01:20 Speaker 2: It would take take you two years. That would be. 00:01:24 Speaker 1: To the gate. 00:01:25 Speaker 2: It's getting to the exactly, and it would be like you said, dangerous, like I feel like you are possibly going to be stepped on, and like all of that and even the tiniest most like nothing animal right is now just like up, I'm saying to eat you like crazy crazy, but being too big, like I just feel like that's just even. I feel like being a tall person, Like I was just around somebody who is like over seven feet and I'm going, can you comfortably sit in even like a cow king like and in the sense of like I mean comfortably, but like in the sense of like lane straight out like people like they has to have a custom bed. Yeah, and at one point his bed was like a circle bed or something. 00:02:26 Speaker 1: You can't for this game, it has to be extremes. It has to be either I. 00:02:31 Speaker 2: Do think he's a microscopic No. 00:02:33 Speaker 3: No, no, I'm talking microscopic tiny or a. 00:02:35 Speaker 2: Hunt yeah, like a giant giant. See what I feel like that that would be so hard. 00:02:42 Speaker 1: It would be both. Would they'd both be terrible? Yeah? 00:02:46 Speaker 2: Anyway, but it would be cool and I would love. I would have loved to live in this movie that we are reviewing today because I just kept thinking this set would be so cool. 00:02:58 Speaker 1: It would be like being. 00:02:59 Speaker 2: A Disneyland all the time. 00:03:01 Speaker 1: It is oh so cool I talked to Well, we'll get into it anyway. Welcome back to Magical Rewind, the show that makes you want to grab your friends, your pjs and your popcorning back to a time when the houses are smart, the waves tsunamis, and we could decide whether it was better to be big or small. I still don't know, but I don't know. Hit Sabrina up in the comments. 00:03:20 Speaker 2: I'm Wilfredell and I'm Sabrina Bryan. 00:03:23 Speaker 1: This week on Magical Rewind, we're taking it back to the Blockbuster era. People, when celebrities attended Planet Hollywood openings and. 00:03:30 Speaker 3: Bruce Willis released a blues album. 00:03:32 Speaker 1: It's time to get theatrical with nineteen eighty nine's massive family entertainment hit Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Yes, Uh, Sabrina. It's difficult to even say this movie's title without thinking of the man, the myth, the legend himself, Rick moranis are you a Morana's head which we're going to start calling it? 00:03:52 Speaker 2: Uh No? But I am a big fan of him in this movie. 00:03:58 Speaker 1: I mean, come on, what as Ghostbusters? 00:04:02 Speaker 2: Ghostbusters? Oh man? Yeah? 00:04:04 Speaker 1: Or the one of the greatest comedies of all time, which you're gonna be like, I've never seen it, and I'm gonna leave the zoom right now because we're not friends. Strange Brew, Oh, oh, Strange Brew is one of the greatest, most underrated comedies in the history of the world. I will die on that hill. 00:04:23 Speaker 2: I will. I will then stream it if it's streamable. Is it streamable? 00:04:28 Speaker 1: It's better be I mean it is so good, it's Yeah. 00:04:32 Speaker 2: He's an incredible actor like that. I could not stop thinking Parenthood everyone, parenthood. 00:04:40 Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, Spaceballs. I mean he's got banger banger yeah. Man. 00:04:45 Speaker 2: And this was his era, like national treasure, treasure, Yeah, this was his era. 00:04:53 Speaker 1: Which is ironic because he's Canadian, so he's is he a Canadian national treasure or you would be that too. But we'll take him. We'll take Rick Morandison. Are you kidding me? Yeah, he's a world treasure. Lisa's right, Producer, Lisa is right, He's a world treasure. He is. Yeah. So, and as we said, he's been back of the news, recently returning from an almost twenty year hiatus from acting to start in the new Spaceball sequel. So excited It's basically unheard of to even just leave the business the way he did, especially when you're a comedic legend still churning out great work. But this really was one of his biggest roles. Are you going to see the new space Balls? 00:05:28 Speaker 2: I might wait for it to stream? 00:05:30 Speaker 1: What everything you're saying is hurting me right in my space Balls? I can't believe that. You're yeah, You're It's God. You gotta go support your local theaters people. 00:05:43 Speaker 2: It's true. I do try to get to the theatre as much as that possible, because I'm so scared they're going to shut them down. 00:05:49 Speaker 1: Exactly, they will get so you know why, Because people say I'll wait for it to come out on streaming. 00:05:57 Speaker 2: You know what, I won't. The Milanai movie, I will not be waiting. I will see that probably seventeen times in the theater. 00:06:05 Speaker 1: You ready to shut off the zoom on your end. 00:06:09 Speaker 2: You've never seen mo Wana? 00:06:10 Speaker 1: Never seen mo Wana, never seen mo Wana, never seen Frozen two. 00:06:15 Speaker 3: This time it's personal. The first Frozen, I was. 00:06:17 Speaker 2: Like, Okay, they're coming out with a Frozen three? 00:06:19 Speaker 3: Is it even more Frozen? This time is like super Frozen. 00:06:22 Speaker 2: I don't know, but they're coming out with a Frozen three. A frozen three. 00:06:27 Speaker 1: I didn't the thing I remember started to snow for like a week and a half in this village and they all freaked out. It's like, I'm from Connecticut. That's just normal, Like, well, oh my god, it's snowing. It's Tuesday, Like what this is a movie? Anyway, let's get this out of the way, because we talked about a little bit at the beginning. But if you were shrunk down to a quarter of an inch, what's the first thing you're gonna do? 00:06:49 Speaker 2: Ooh, I feel like I what they did in this movie. I would be in heaven with like a cookie like right, eating like just ice, scream like so much of it to like I mean, I just think it would taste different. I don't know why, but it would just taste different, and it would just be incredible. 00:07:09 Speaker 1: Double from in and out. 00:07:11 Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Oh the French fries. Oh wow. Yeah, so I think food would be cool. I think I loved the again. This movie. It's just like all of the like creating like normal day stuff, but like creating it into like now a ride, like you can slide down a chair or you know what. I mean like finding those. 00:07:35 Speaker 1: Like docs and all that kind of stuff. 00:07:37 Speaker 2: Yeah, that kind of stuff would be so cool. Finding that kind of stuff to be able to do would be rad. 00:07:42 Speaker 1: What would you do? It would be yours, you know, probably stuff like you I'd want to do things like ride and ant Yeah, maybe like try to grab a little sword and battle a cockroach or something. You know what I mean, Like, oh my god, something post apocalyptic would be kind of fun. 00:07:55 Speaker 2: It would It would be crazy, Like I mean, I just think it would be so like the world would be so fun. Like just a regular tree trying to climb up it, you know what I mean. Like that kind of stuff would just be so cool. Or like stuff in your house, Like I'm looking around my house like oh man, climbing up like this little bookshelf. Yes, like down the side. It would take forever and then like slide it down like you know, like a like a Oh, that'd be so cool. 00:08:20 Speaker 1: It'd be cool. Though. Yeah, we'll figure it out. Well, we'll find a way to get it done, and we'll figure it out. We work for iHeart. They can do anything exactly. This movie was released on June twenty third, nineteen ninety nine, and over thirteen hundred theaters with a heavily promoted Roger Rabbit cartoon. Before the credits, get ready to shut off your camera again? What ever? Never seen? Who Frame Roger Rabbit? Why? 00:08:43 Speaker 3: I've never seen I'm an animation fanatic? 00:08:46 Speaker 2: And how is that possible for you? You? 00:08:50 Speaker 1: I don't know? Never saw it? We're gonna have to do on this podcast. We're gonna have to do who Frame Roger Rabbit? We're gonna have to do Mowana? 00:08:57 Speaker 2: Yes, you have got to see I haven't seen it, and Noana is one of the best movies Strange has ever made. 00:09:04 Speaker 1: Our Strange Beru doesn't fit with our Our. 00:09:05 Speaker 2: Podcast doesn't fit with that podcast. 00:09:07 Speaker 3: I'm going to make Have you seen Clockwork? 00:09:09 Speaker 1: Orange? Where they strap him to the chair and then hold his eyelids open and make him watch stuff. That's what I'm going to do with you and Strange real because you've got to see it. But we'll figure out. Yes, it wasn't expected, by the way, to become a hit at all, but it was a massive hit. It reportedly cost only eighteen million dollars to make, and it grossed two hundred and twenty two million worldwide. At the time, which now translates to seventy two travillion dollars thanks to inflation, now five hundred and seventy five million thanks to inflation. 00:09:35 Speaker 2: Wow. 00:09:35 Speaker 1: And at the time it was the highest grossing live action Disney movie of all time, a title it held only for just five years though, Can you guess what dethroned it without reading? No, I didn't read what dethroned it? Five years later, so it would have been nineteen ninety fourteen, and it was not season one of Boy Meets World. 00:09:55 Speaker 2: Just for the record, Okay, okay, that's fair. Oh man, I don't know what could have. 00:10:04 Speaker 3: The biggest TV star of the time. 00:10:08 Speaker 2: Jonathan Taylor Thomas. 00:10:10 Speaker 1: You are very close, really, yes, very very close. 00:10:19 Speaker 2: Nope, Oh no, same show. Oh, Santa Claus. 00:10:22 Speaker 1: Was Santa Claus is the one that The thing I remember is we were we were shooting next to Home Improvement. We were on stage two, they were on stage one, and Tim Allen had just filmed the Santa Claus and it became such a smash hit that we walked out. He always had these amazing cars in his parking space. 00:10:40 Speaker 3: There'd be two or three in his parking space. 00:10:42 Speaker 1: They were all better than the last. And he came out one day and Disney had bought him a brand new Portchie with the license plate Clause one. It was because the movie did so well and we came out, We're like, oh, that's the ultimate goal. 00:10:54 Speaker 3: Is you do so well that the company buys you a car? 00:10:58 Speaker 2: For real? Gosh, what did you guys film on Disney? 00:11:02 Speaker 1: We were on the Disney lot For the first two seasons we were on the Disney lot, and then the next two seasons were at KTLA, and then the next two seasons we were at Radford, and then the last season we were back at Disney. Okay, so they. 00:11:13 Speaker 2: Kept that would be so cool to fit it. 00:11:15 Speaker 1: It was great. Yeah, we were there for three of the seven years. It was awesome. 00:11:18 Speaker 2: That's awesome. 00:11:18 Speaker 1: Honey I Shrunk the Kids was also the seventh highest grossing film of the entire year, a massive smash for Disney, launching an unexpected franchise with two sequels, a TV show, and several theme park attractions, including a stop on the studio back lot tour, the Honey I Shrunk the Kid's Movie set adventure, and most famously, Honey I Shrunk the Audience Do you remember that three D movie at Disneyland replaced Michael Jackson's three D movie Captain Neo. 00:11:43 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, it was great. Yeah. 00:11:45 Speaker 1: By the way, I'm gonna start talking very fast while shaking my leg. I am having an actual cup of coffee this morning. I'm three SIPs of normal caffeine and feeling at people. Let's get going. I hate to tell you this, but this movie was originally tight Old teeny Whenies, which coincidentally was also the title of my memoir. It was first brought to Disney to appeal strictly to kids. Then during development they decided to shift it for a more mature audience and change the title to Grounded, a title that then was rejected again and it became The Big Backyard and then taken from a line of dialogue straight from the film. The studio settled on the final title, of course, which was Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, which for years has been debated because of its grammar. It technically should have been titled Honey, I shrank the kids. 00:12:30 Speaker 2: Does that bother you, Sabrina, No, No, shrank is worse. 00:12:34 Speaker 1: I shrunk Honey, I shrank the kids doesn't sound I sh kids. I shrank the kids. Wow. 00:12:42 Speaker 2: No, no, no, I agree. 00:12:44 Speaker 1: As much as Moranas became synonymous with this movie, he was not the first choice. It was actually written for Chevy Chase, but he was filming Christmas Vacation. I announced this the Griswold Family Christmas Tree. 00:12:55 Speaker 3: So he had to pass. 00:12:57 Speaker 1: They also considered another absolute Canadian legend and one of my favorite actors of all time, and I got to meet him, John Candy, who passed on the project. But instead of rejecting the idea, he did what every single person who I've ever heard anything about, John Candy, who said he was the greatest human being to ever walk the planet. He didn't just pass and say no, thank you. He suggested his very good friend and fellow Canadian, Rick moranis so hey, I don't want to do this, but give it to my buddy. Everything I've heard about this man, he was just a legend. I love him every day so much. Very quick story. I met him on the Paramount Lot. I was there. I was fifteen years old. I was shooting a pilot. This was before Born Meets World. I was shooting a pilot for National Geographic and my job was to go to the Star Trek the Next Generation set, interview all of the cast members of the set, and then be brought through full makeup by Mike and Bud Westmore, who dressed me up as a Romulan. I still have all of the appliances that they signed for me. And as I was dressed like a full Romulan, I went to the commissary with all the directors and the producers, and John Candy was there and said, Hey, you're a Romulan, right, And I went, uh. 00:14:05 Speaker 3: And that was how I met John Candy. 00:14:08 Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that's in full Romulin regalia. 00:14:13 Speaker 1: I ended up meeting John John Candy. It was the coolest. And the movie was filmed in Ready for this big shocker here one we haven't said yet on Magical rewind Mexico City. That's right, the Beverly Hills mall quote unquote, and all the attempts to make it look like La was actually shot in the back lot of And I'm going to say this wrong, so I apologize Trubusco Studios. I think is how it said, but again I could be wrong. Now, for the most part, the crew did rely heavily on practical effects, with some special effects here and there. Some of the insects and the movies were electronically controlled items or motion stop, but a lot of the perspective moves were just camera tricks. They also utilized stunt men, puppetry, animation, and gimmick kind of lenses and unfortunately, but I don't give it, none of it holds up in twenty twenty six. It doesn't look great. But I just didn't care. I don't know about you, not at all. Didn't care even a little bit. 00:15:07 Speaker 2: I will say, like the ant and the scorpion looks so much grosser than what I remember it being like. It was like like this stuff when we get there. I'll keep mentioning it, like the stuff that they have definitely looked like look like Oh, I don't know, I don't remember being like gross towns. 00:15:27 Speaker 1: Well, it just the scorpion especially gave me straight up flashbacks to my favorite movie growing up, one of my favorite movies, which is Clash of the Titans, where he fights the giant scorpion. So it was that stop animation, really creepy stuff. But I'm not even gonna ask if you like Clash of the Titans, because I'm holding onto a shred of our friendship Sabrina just a shred. 00:15:45 Speaker 2: Forward. 00:15:46 Speaker 1: Okay, here's the thing, though, That doesn't mean that this property is by any means dead, because a sequel called Shrunk was in development, announced in twenty twenty, starring Ready for this Josh Gadd and Rick moranis but it appears to have installed, especially since Gad and Brandis ended up putting their energy together for Spaceballs. I wouldn't hold my breath for that ending up in theaters, but maybe if Spaceballs does great, I would also will throw my tiny or large hat in the ring, whichever one they want to do anything in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids franchise, Seriously, I will do the voice at the beginning going, Hey, everybody, welcome to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids. It would be safe to say that the original Honey I Shrunk the Kids Shrank the Kids. Either one was an absolute classic for an entire generation and impossible to ignore when you were recapping the early nineties for family films. Now you knew this movie existed, right, Do you remember the first time you saw it or the first time seeing it at all? 00:16:42 Speaker 2: No? I don't remember. I mean I was I was younger for sure, and I don't I just remember I watched this movie on repeat, like I watched it over and oh it was such a favorite of mine, and I just like it was again, like this is the best. This is what makes this podcast so amazing is like the nostalgia of like I remember having popcorn and all that. I don't think I saw it in theaters. I don't think I saw it in theaters, but I definitely had like the vhs. 00:17:15 Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm repeating at my house. This was the coolset. I'm sorry. I was just looking something up because I was hoping to find the clip. I still haven't been able to find the clip. So in nineteen eighty nine, I was on a show called Don't Just Sit There on Nickelodeon. Okay, it was like a young Saturday Night Live. We did had special guests and interviewed bands or I had a band, and I did skits and all that kind of stuff. And one of my first interviews was Robert Olaveri, the kid from this the main kid from this movie who plays Rick Moranis's son, and so in New York. Before the interview, I went and saw Honey I shrunk the kids fell in love with it. The next day, I went and interviewed Robert. We became friends on the set and hung out that day. He was telling me all the behind the scenes stuff of making the movie. It was the coolest. It was like a behind the scenes look at this movie, which is cool. I'm twelve, I think at the time, or thirteen. It was like the coolest movie as a young actor. Exactly what you said, where You're on these sets with you know, these giant props and oh hey we got to climb into a lego today and go to sleep. 00:18:18 Speaker 2: Oh so cool. I mean, yes, exactly, especially a young actor's dream, right, Like just these like just the coolest sets, such a cool experience. I'm sure, I bet you they had so much fun. And again, this is like another opportunity for kids to be working with other kids too. Write Like the main cast you can tell like they were they probably didn't film very often with Rick, Like, they probably didn't film that much because there wasn't a lot of scenes with him, right. 00:18:48 Speaker 1: Right, I don't know. I mean I think they were kind of all on the set all the time. But yeah, it was just yeah, the idea and again, this movie honestly makes me slightly want to apologize to our listeners. Well, because the movie doesn't look good. I mean, let's be honest, they don't. It doesn't hold up. 00:19:06 Speaker 3: I mean a lot of it. 00:19:07 Speaker 1: No, it didn't bother me at all either, That's what I'm saying. My nostalgia attached this movie need it to where I didn't care. So I get people that for a lot of the movies where I'm like this because I've no nostalgia attached. 00:19:19 Speaker 3: To it, where I'm like, right, this movie isn't good, this doesn't look good. 00:19:22 Speaker 1: It's not this movie is good, doesn't look great, doesn't hold up, but at the time was amazing. So my nostalgia I finished and I was like, I need to apologize to some people for. 00:19:31 Speaker 3: The way that being said. Double Team still sucks. 00:19:36 Speaker 4: That was for our producers, of course, yes, and a new generation out there, all of you old, new whatever fans, original fans, new fans, go find it because right now you can check it out on Disney Plus. 00:19:50 Speaker 1: You can cram it before we start recapping, or just check it out first then watch the movie. I think it's the safest thing to do no matter what. But either way, look both ways. Before you cross the street, trust me, take my word for it. And now let's break out the magnifying glasses to spend ourselves in the backyard. Because this is the synopsis. An eccentric inventor accidentally shrinks his children and the neighbor's kids down to a microscopic size, and now, while trapped in the backyard, they must survive a dangerous world of insects and obstacles while trying to make their way back home. Now, with that synopsis of mind, despite the grammatical issue, is Honey, I Shrunk the Kids one of the best titles in Hollywood history. Some other good ones. We got Jaws, There will be blood, Snakes on a plane, Dude wears My Car, Star Wars, It's up there, It's up there. Okay, I think we've both said this. We don't even need to get in this. We both love this movie, right, yes, okay. 00:20:40 Speaker 2: Great, hands down, hands down, easy watch, fun watches one for the whole family. 00:20:46 Speaker 1: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids was directed by a legend who cut his teeth in visual effects on some of the most legendary I'm going to keep saying legendary because it's apt movies of all times. Working at ILM, which is of course Industrial Light and Magic. He was the art director on the first There's three Star Wars movies, Battlestar Galactica and Raiders is The Lost Dark. He's even the guy who designed Yoda and Boba Fett, all because he answered an ad from George Lucas while at cal State Long Beach looking for employees. He would later also design another absolute classic cinematic character ready for this, the Iron Giant Yikes. So to say he's a visionary would be an understatement. We are, of course talking about Joe Johnston and he eventually transitioned into acting because he was encouraged to do so by George Lucas. Imagine somebody coming to you and be like, it's like, you know, the Shakespeare coming up and going you should write so yeah, Crazy and Honey Shrunk The Kids was his first ever movie. Just listen to his career since The Rocketeer, Jumanji, Jurassic Park three, Captain America, the First Avenger. He was also the producer on Willow It's just like One after Hour in saying can we get him on the podcast? Can we get up on the Park? 00:21:58 Speaker 2: Seriously? We got can we try, Can we try? 00:22:02 Speaker 1: And like I and, like I mentioned, it stars an absolute legend. If this podcast was three days long, I'd spend two and a half of it talking about this guy. Rick moranis as Wayne Zelenski. He began his career on SCTV, which was a Canadian sketch show, which led to the movie Strange Brew. There's no point steering, Hey, take off, You're steering this thing. It's one of the best, the greatest movies of all time. My brothers and I quote it ad nauseum. It's the best. Have you ever heard? 00:22:26 Speaker 3: Take off? 00:22:27 Speaker 1: Ozer? 00:22:28 Speaker 2: Like? 00:22:28 Speaker 1: Take Off? Eh? 00:22:29 Speaker 2: Oh? 00:22:29 Speaker 1: God you got It's based on Okay, it's based on a duo of characters they created on that show. And he'd appear in some of the best comedies of the eighties and nineties Ghostbusters one and two, Little Shop of Horrors, space Balls, Parenthood, My Blue Heaven, The Flintstones, It won after another. 00:22:48 Speaker 3: Is there one that is the favorite of the bunch? 00:22:50 Speaker 2: There? Oh, I didn't even think about Flintstones. Flinstones is probably one of my favorite movies too. I loved that movie. Oh in the Dance Sequins. Oh it's so good. Oh, it's so good. 00:23:03 Speaker 1: We see that movie genius, Like, we throw that out there. Rick Moranis is literally a genius. Hey, it's one. Go watch his under like his sub kind of completely mellow, underplayed character in something like Parenthood or My Blue Heaven, and then go watch Ghostbusters or Strange Brew and you're like, that's the same guy. 00:23:24 Speaker 3: And then Little. 00:23:25 Speaker 1: Chopah Horrors where he's singing the whole time and is freaking amazing. 00:23:29 Speaker 2: Yeah, I forgot that he sings in that. 00:23:32 Speaker 1: Suddenly Symore, Oh God, greatest, the great. 00:23:37 Speaker 2: I love it so good. 00:23:39 Speaker 1: Yeah. So also back in twenty twenty and this very few things aggravate me as much as this story. It got buried during the pandemic because obviously there was a lot of stuff going on. But he was assaulted in New York City, punched by a stranger on the street on camera for absolutely no reason at all. So whoever sucker punched Rick Moranis, I don't know if they caught the guy or not, but special place in hell, mart. 00:24:02 Speaker 2: I can't imagine why you would. He seems like the nicest guy. 00:24:05 Speaker 1: And he was literally just walking on the street one morning, just by himself, and a guy just punched him in the face for absolutely no reason. If there is such a thing as karma, it's coming, buddy, mar And then another person who was very important in my life, Marcia Strassman plays Diane Zelinski, his wife. She was a legacy TV star, best known as Julie Cotter on the TV show Welcome Back Catter, which was huge. But she was also in the first two, if not the first three seasons of mash as one of my favorite reoccurring characters. And when I was a little kid, I had such a. 00:24:37 Speaker 2: Crush on her. She's a lady, she really was. 00:24:41 Speaker 3: She was. 00:24:41 Speaker 1: Unfortunately she passed away very young from cancer, but she knows a television legend. Rest in piece. Marcia Strassman, I see you, I love you. You were amazing. 00:24:52 Speaker 3: Christine Sutherland is May Thompson, the neighbor. 00:24:54 Speaker 1: Our listeners may recognize her as Joyce Summers on the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 00:24:59 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's true. 00:25:01 Speaker 1: She was great. 00:25:02 Speaker 3: And then Jared Rushton plays Ron Thompson. 00:25:04 Speaker 1: Now this was one of the cool things because as a kid, he was kind of my contemporary and he was in everything. Rushton is recognizable from a few of the greatest movies of the eighties. He played Tom Hanks's best friend Billy in the movie Big and was in Overboard alongside Kurt Russell and Goldie Haun. Another fun Wilfred Dell story. They were gonna do Big in after the movie came out, they were gonna make into a television show. And I was one of the people that, at the very end before they decided not to film it was gonna play. It was between me and like one other person to play Billy. And the person who was gonna play Tom Hanks growing up and who I met and talked to in in the audition for a while was George Costanza from Seinfeld No Way. He actually got to sit there and talk with him, and I think we read a scene together, and it was all like they were gonna do Big as a television show. I was twelve. I think it was one of the first I ever got quote unquote close on. But Jared Rushton, by the way, I'm going to turn everything into a story about me today. 00:26:06 Speaker 2: It's the caffeine, it's your cat stories. I love them. I love them. 00:26:12 Speaker 1: Jared Rushton retired from acting in the nineties to focus on music and has played guitar and been a singer for bands like Withdrawal and Deal by Dusk. Who Knew Amy O'Neil played Amy Zelinsky good casting when it's the same name. She was a child actor who appeared in various sitcoms before a thirty episode run as pregnant teen Molly Stark on The Young and the Restless in nineteen eighty six. Luckily, she didn't know she was pregnant because she was also her own twin who had amnesia. She also reprised her role of Amy Zelinsky and Honey I Blew Up the Kid, but was only in the opening scene where she leaves for college. She then retired from acting in the nineteen nineties join a circus style entertainment troupe as part of the trio Girls on Stilts, focusing on stilt's fire, breathing and juggling. She returned to acting with two short films and a television episode in the late twenty tens. And I would love to get her on the pod because what a cool kind of you go. 00:27:02 Speaker 2: From me now stuff I need to know, we got like. 00:27:08 Speaker 1: Yeah, the coolest jo it is. So we are calling out to you. Amy O'Neil, We want you to come on the pod. We are coming to find you. 00:27:14 Speaker 3: And then my old friend Robert OLIVERI is Nick Zelinsky. 00:27:17 Speaker 1: You might recognize him from Edward Sisterhands, and it appeared he retired from acting in nineteen ninety two, and I would love to find him and redo the interview. I did because at the end, one of the things I remember, and you can hear it if you find the interview. As it's fading to black, I mispronounced his last name and I say, ladies and gentlemen, Robert OLIVERA And it cuts to black as people are clapping, and you hear his voice go e Robert OLIVERI. And that was the end of the interview. So I really want to find it. 00:27:44 Speaker 3: And that was it. 00:27:45 Speaker 1: We never spoke again, quite literally. And one last credit, I wanted to point out actor Lou Cuddle plays Doctor Brainerd a very small part, but he's made appearances on Grey's Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, and was Super Dave's dad on Curb Your Enthusias, But most importantly, he played amazing Larry in Peewee's Big Adventure. Oh that is Holy Menson. What's by name? And shown for three seconds when Pee Wee angrily asked him. 00:28:11 Speaker 2: Is there something you want to share with the rest of us? 00:28:13 Speaker 1: Amazing Larry, and he's shown with a ridiculous rainbow mohawk that never shown or mentioned again. Great little cameo unfortunately passed away in twenty one, but Amazing Larry will live on forever. One thing we don't want to live on forever though a movie we hear a magical rewind like a ninety minute film, even when there are very successful blockbusters and so did they shrink this movie or they blow it up? 00:28:39 Speaker 3: Well, it comes in. 00:28:40 Speaker 1: At ninety three minutes. We now have acknowledged that this film is three minutes off target, on the wrong side of history. Not happy about that, but I admit I don't give it. It was great. It could have even been ninety four and I wouldn't have said anything about it. 00:28:54 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:28:55 Speaker 1: On the writing side of things, since this movie went through a few iterations, it is a very crowded house. We have story credits by Stuart Gordon and Brian Usna, weirdly accult horror duo with credits like Reanimator, Great Movie and Body Snatchers. Then we have screenplay by Tom Schulman, an Oscar winning writer for Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams. He also wrote What About Bob, Eight Heads in a Duffel Bag, and Holy Man with Eddie Murphy. Some great films, and he shared his credit with Ed Naha, the writer behind Chud Too, Bud the Chud, I swear to god, I did not make that up and the TV show The Adventures of Sindbad. So everybody, let's take a bite from the gigantic cookie and study for French class. This is Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Now. A very common way to start an eighties film, and it's been a while since we've seen this trend was to open a movie with animation or stop motion. Some of the more classic examples of this are Better Off, Dead City Slickers and Problem Child. It's almost like its own animated series for the credits, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is a perfect example. We see the actor's names amongst animation of a small boy and girl trying to avoid the names, then flying in a paper airplane, then becoming a flea on a dog, and this had me thinking the movie could have been a pretty good Saturday Morning cartoon. Once the cartoon ends and the cartoon kids get sealed in a letter, we enter live action and see a mailman delivering parcels in a suburban neighborhood. He stops at the Zelensky house and hands the little family dog, Quark, a letter. The dog runs inside, where it's breakfast time and teenage daughter Amy is gossiping on the phone. Her little brother Nick is working on a science project waiting for food, and this is when Amy reveals their parents got into a fight last night and her mom stayed at their grandma's. Hey, Amy, maybe keep your family stuff to yourself, just saying, Hey, maybe nobody's business. Amy. Let's work this out as a family, as the Zolenskys. She'll be back home in the afternoon from work, though. She then presses a button that reads breakfast, and it starts a chain reaction, leading us to an attic lab where we meet quirky inventor and dad Waane Zelensky. He's wielding a huge laser, a real one, not like the little toy that his son Nick is holding, but when he sees the breakfast button has been pressed, he tells his kids he'll be down in five minutes over at the neighbor's house, Russell Big Russ Thompson Senior is awoken by Zelensky in the laser, so he begrudgingly gets out of bed and yells out the windows. 00:31:16 Speaker 3: Zelenski, give it a rest, it's Saturday. 00:31:18 Speaker 1: When the noises don't stop, he rushes outside and hits a trip wire from his son Ron's booby trap, shooting a rubber arrow with super glue right onto his forehead, and they've quickly rush inside to remove it. Meanwhile, back at the Zelinski's, young Nick enters his dad's lab despite signs telling him to keep out. Wayne is still working on the huge project, and Nick tries to tell his dad about his mini laser, but his dad is just too busy to care. Nick leaves disappointed alone Again, Zelensky turns on the machine. While the laser is pointing out an apple. He attempts to shrink the fruit, but instead it explodes. He notes, hey, at least it's an interesting way to make apple sauce. Back at the Thompson's, Big Russ asks his oldest son, Little Russ, if he's ready for their big fishing trip. Little Russ is, in fact not at all. As he retreats to his bedroom, it's revealed that he was cut from the football team for being too small. Big Russ is mad, but his wife warns him emotionally he's making his son feel even smaller. Big Russ thinks if he wants to feel big, he should start acting big. A lot of size stuff in this movie. And next door, Amy has burnt breakfast or her brother and dad. Not even the dog wants it, but I thought pretty nice that she's there making breakfast for everybody. Wayne says he's got the laser working, but there are a few more bugs that need to be ironed out. He's late for a conference, so he rushes out the door, but his wife, Diane calls the house phone and he jumps on it quickly. She called to wish him good luck at the conference and tells him she'll be home this afternoon to talk. He says, as things go well at the conference, everything for the family will change. He hangs up and tells the kids to clean up the house and mow the lawn before their mom gets home. In the backyard, now, Nick offers his friend Tommy the chance to cut the grass with the remote control lawnmower, and an excited Tommy says he'll be back to do it later. Meanwhile, Big Russ is going outside and going over the fishing trip checklist. Ron asks his dad to play baseball, but Big Russ isn't interested. Defeated, What which I found a little weird? I get it, but it's like you've got one kid you're forcing into sports and another kid who wants to play sports with you, and you're like, don't have the time, right? 00:33:09 Speaker 2: Yeah, which was weird. 00:33:10 Speaker 1: Defeated. Ron walks outside and sees Nick in the Zelenski's yard with an odd vacuum, then bullies him. Big Russ then yells out for help packing up his car, so while Little Russ carries things to the RV, he seems Amy dancing in the kitchen. 00:33:22 Speaker 2: Oh. 00:33:23 Speaker 1: Big Russ notices Little Russ was ogling at Amy and turns it into a pep talk about his size and football career. He challenges him to take I imagine it's steroids. If he works out for three months on them, he'll be running faster and hitting harder than anyone on the team. 00:33:37 Speaker 3: Did you get that vibe that. 00:33:38 Speaker 2: It was like, yes, it's in my Sabrina seas like, did his dad just encourage him to like take the sub one? 00:33:48 Speaker 1: Seem like it like, what's going on here? 00:33:51 Speaker 2: Disney? 00:33:52 Speaker 1: Like I know it's like I know again, well steroids, Little Russ says, waits on his thing, but we'll keep him posted. But either way, he's being forced still to go on this fishing trip. Now outside, big Russ doesn't know what he's doing wrong with the sun, he pops a cigarette in his mouth, smoking in a Disney movie. 00:34:08 Speaker 2: In a Disney movie. 00:34:09 Speaker 1: Jeff, Well, that was the thing, is I thought when he popped it in then spits it out, I thought, Okay, he's never gonna actually light it, but then he did, and then yeah, it was amazed. Yeah, so his wife walks out, he spits out the cigarette. They continue to load the car and Ron starts to play baseball by himself, eventually hitting the ball right into Zelensky's attic lab, shattering a window in the process. It hits the machine and as a result, turns on the laser, eventually making a sofa disappear. Unknown to the results, of course, Little Russ grabs his little brother and drags him over to the Zelenskys to rat him out. When Nick and Amy answered the door, Little Russ fumbles to get the words out, but eventually explains that Ronald used his own allowance to fix the attic window. Amy tells Nick to take Ron upstairs to get the ball and clean up the mess. Now alone, Little Russ admits he likes Samy's dancing, which is exactly what a stalker would say. 00:34:54 Speaker 3: And once Nick was. 00:34:55 Speaker 2: Like, oh cebe byes, I've been. 00:34:58 Speaker 1: Watching you dance through the window. A little creepy, but they're kids. It's fine. 00:35:06 Speaker 2: I don't care, which is no, it doesn't matter, so it's cute. He just has such a big crush on. 00:35:11 Speaker 1: I know, I know, and yes, and she was adorable by the way. 00:35:17 Speaker 2: Yes. 00:35:17 Speaker 1: And once Nick and Ron walk into the attic, the lasers apps directly at the boys and we hear a scream. We're not the science conference. Wayne Zelensky is lecturing about how to shrink things, but people are leaving in droves. One professor and the audience asks for proof. The only thing he managed to shrink is the audience. Then everyone leaves except one guy, his friend, doctor Brainerd aka Amazing Larry, who encourages him to keep going. 00:35:41 Speaker 3: We're now back at the Zelensky's. 00:35:42 Speaker 1: I gotta keep saying Zelensky's back at the Zelenskys. Amy and Little Russ are wondering what's taking nick and Ron so long, so they head upstairs to the attic, and when the boys are nowhere to be found, the laser goes off again, now shrinking Amy and making him little er. Russ, thank you very much. 00:35:57 Speaker 3: They're all truly tiny. 00:35:59 Speaker 1: Crates look huge, the ceilings are so high, and the cracks on the floor look like massive fault lines. Amy is of course confused, but they quickly find Nicky and Ron. They are the size of well, boogers. 00:36:09 Speaker 2: Then Quark's it's the size of boogers. 00:36:12 Speaker 1: It's true too. Then Quark starts barking and it's ear piercingly loud. They also find the couch we saw disappear, and it's also tiny. Then, just in time, Wayne returns home and Quark leads Wayne upstairs to show that the attic door is open. When he enters, the laser almost snaps him, but he doesn't see anything out of the ordinary. The kids are screaming at him, but he can't hear them. He tries sitting on the couch and falls to the floor instead, creating an earthquake for the kids. Bewildered as couch is gone, he notices the broken glass window. The kids also see a dead fly, which to them is the size of a dinosaur. Okay, now this is where the logic gets me a little bit, and I'm sorry, I am going to point out some things even though I still love this. I assume he thinks the laser broke the window and is still so mad about the conference, so he decides to destroy the machine. Is that right? 00:36:59 Speaker 2: Uh? Well, I feel like he's just at the end of heated from the great conference, just defeated, and he's just and him and his wife have been at odds because of him being assumed and that was it. I don't really know if he because that was one of the things I was putting, like, where did the ball go? 00:37:19 Speaker 4: It? 00:37:19 Speaker 1: It flew in, hit the machine, hit a bunch of things, but then it did It landed in front of the laser. The laser blocked it, but then it fell off when it moved again, which is why it didn't turn on again when Zelensky came in. I believe Okay, isn't that what it was. I think I think that's what happened. 00:37:38 Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure. 00:37:39 Speaker 1: Know. 00:37:39 Speaker 2: I kind of was like, yeah, where did the ball go? Like, and how did he not see that the ball? 00:37:45 Speaker 1: Like, that's the thing is because he didn't see it, it fell and it rolled onto the ground. 00:37:49 Speaker 2: Okay, okay, pretty. 00:37:51 Speaker 1: Sure that's what happened. Pieces of the machine are flying everywhere, forcing the kids to run around dodging what to them is huge debris. Wayne eventually picks up a broom to sweep away the and now the kids are terrified sprinting away from the massive bristles. Despite their best efforts, they do get stuck in the broom, pushed into a dust pan and dumped into the trash. Clueless, Wayne ties up the trash bag and throws it outside in the backyard. And even that, just like here we go with the big screws coming at them and the broom bristles coming. It's like we're in this world now, Yeah, and I'm here for it. Especially Yeah thirteen so cool. 00:38:25 Speaker 2: It's just like giant, you know, and it's totally it's awesome to look at it now and like and see the way that they filmed it. I really liked going. Okay, that makes sense. Wow, that was smart or you know what I mean, like, yeah, it's very cool to do. 00:38:39 Speaker 1: And you see, you know that you must have as a kid actor, you must have gone to the set and then been like, oh, shooting the giant broom scene today. Yes, here, all right, here it is. 00:38:48 Speaker 3: Everybody, We've got the puppetry going in giant broom bristles. 00:38:51 Speaker 1: Everybody grab on. It must have just been so much fun, so much fun. Gosh, yeah, so much fun. That's the other cool thing about practical effect. You know. You look at I go back to Star Wars. You look at the one, two, and three, the prequels of Star Wars and the actors and you see the behind the scenes and it's literally them in their outfits in a giant green screen. That's all it is, yea. And you see even the newer ones are the older ones where they're actually sitting in like the Millennium falcon and stuff like that, and it's like, oh, so much better for actors and so much more fun. 00:39:21 Speaker 2: Yes. 00:39:22 Speaker 1: Wayne returns to the house and we hear the kids yelling from inside the trash bag, eventually cutting through it to reveal what looks like a jungle. They quickly realize it's the backyard. Amy's still hoping her dad can fix this. They just have to get back to the house. Ron slides down a piece of grass like it's a water slide, hoping to get next door and still go fishing. Little Russ slides down next, then Nicki than Amy. Once amongst the scary grass, they hear a butterfly hovering overhead and fine cover under a mushroom. Then back on the walk to the house, Nicki realizes that they are sixty four feet away, which is the equivalent to about three point two miles. They better get moving. And I love how he's the smart kid who's figuring all this out. I know it's great. Meanwhile, in the front of the house, Diane returns home and tells Wayne she sold the house. He admits the conference went poorly and says he's just going to try to get his old job back. 00:40:08 Speaker 3: Wayne says he hasn't seen the kids since the morning. 00:40:10 Speaker 1: And Diane assumes, like all kids in nineteen eighty nine, they went to the mall. Wayne also reveals that his quote unquote, thinking couch is gone, we're now back in the grass The kids are still pushing their way through the jungle, and I'm starting to realize why this movie is almost called The Big Backyard, which isn't an awful title, but not as good. They run into one of Ricky's lost toy dinosaurs, which is now huge, and they end up at a dirty puddle that's the size of a river. Once they see a dead bee floating by, they refuse to swim in it. Then Nick has an idea. They're gonna whistle for Quark then ride him to the house. Kind of brilliant idea. Nick suggests that they get higher up, so they attempt to climb up on top of the flower, which seems as hi as a skyscraper. We're now in those Zelinsky's kitchen. Diane's on the phone with Amy's friends' parents, realizing her kids are nowhere to be found. Quark is barking at the backyard, though, so Wayne lets him out and wonders if maybe the kids are at the Thompson's and in the grass. Quark finally arrives from the whist and he is huge, But just as things are looking up, the Thompson's cat jumps on to the fence and chases Quark back inside. Then Nick falls off the flower right into a patch of pollen. His sister warns him he's allergic to pollen, but Nick says it's too big to breathe in, and then he sneezes, And now in a regular sized life, Missus Thompson, still getting ready for camping, ask Diane if she's seen Ronnie or Russ. And now they realize all their kids are missing. They'll let each other know if they hear anything. Back in the grass, the kids hear a swarm of bees, and this is a true nightmare for tiny people stuck in the backyard. One bee grabs a hold of Nick and flies away. Ross jumps ont of the bee to help, and now they're both hanging on for dear life as it flies through the backyard, weaving in and out of obstacles. Terrified, ron is blaming Amy's dad, this is all his fault, and now Diane is obviously getting nervous. She's going to run to the mall and try to find the kids. She tells Wayne to stay at the house in case they come back. Also, the Bornsteins might stop by for the escrow papers. And now big Russ thinks it's the perfect time to tell his neighbor Wayne that Islana is beginning to look like the Amazon. As they chat, the be carrying Nick and Russ flies right in front of Big Russ then Wayne, who both try to swap the bee, which in essence would kill their children. The bee crashes back to the grass, tossing the two boys off. Now alone and split up, Amy motivates Ron to get back to walking. Wayne notices he's using a baseball bat from their backyard to swat at the bee, and Nick well, he doesn't play baseball. He looks at the broken window upstairs and starts putting two and two together, and two and two equals tiny miniature little children. He rushes to the attic. He accidentally steps on a miniature sized chair, then bends down and notices his tiny couch. Wait a minute, it worked. His laser worked. Wow, but oh no, He realizes he may have shrunk the kids. Hey wait, it's a good title for the movie. He bumps into the broom and panics. Did he sweep them up and throw them in the trash? Yeah? He did, we saw it. He rushes into the backyard and he sees the tear in the trash bag and is now convinced he shrunk the kids tiptoeing through the backyard so he doesn't step on anyone. He decides to climb along the fence instead, and missus Thompson watches her from his window, confused, thinking he's probably on drugs. In the grass, Ron is trying to wake Nick up after falling off the bee. They have no idea where they are, assuming they're still in the Zelinski's backyard. Worth noting here that Russ is also now bleeding from the mouth, so they're showing that has gotten pretty serious. 00:43:15 Speaker 3: Elsewhere, Ron is. 00:43:16 Speaker 1: Going off on Amy about how her dad will probably go to jail for this. Amy thinks the opposite, They're going to be rich because the machine worked. Then Ron instantly changes his tune. He wants in on this grift. Also in the backyard, Waen is now using crutches as stilts with binoculars on him, trying to find the kids, and of course, the logic question is, wouldn't the crutches crush. 00:43:37 Speaker 2: Them too, It's just a smaller possible crushing. Yeah, they're like, yeah, I feel like it's like instead of his shoe now, it's like a small you know, quarter size dot, but still is funny. This is his whole stick that he does from doing the sideyard like walk the tiptoe on the fence to this. So then when it gets to the next part with him, he's great. I remember being like, he's so cool, like this is that is such a good idea. 00:44:12 Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the best. He is the best. 00:44:16 Speaker 2: Love his little inventions. 00:44:20 Speaker 1: Yeah, oh they're great. 00:44:21 Speaker 3: I love that. 00:44:21 Speaker 4: That. 00:44:21 Speaker 1: What was the other movie we saw where you thought they had how you delivered the newspapers with the kids and the kids in Foster care Yep, it's so true. He then accidentally gets caught on a hose, causing the sprinkler system to go off, and now Amy and Ron are dodging massive rain drops that would probably drown them. They run to find shelter, as does Nick and Russ, who are indeed in the backyard. Still, Wayne does end up losing his balance and falls onto a clothing line, holding on to it to avoid hitting the grass. And as all this is happening, Diane's clients, the boring Steins, have arrived for the escrow papers. Wayne screams at them to get off the grass, and he looks insane, and we're now in the grass while dodging at Chubby Rain. I see you, Jensen, I see what you did there. Do you know what did you get? You get Chubby Rain? 00:45:05 Speaker 2: It's from Booth, It's from the Bowfinger. 00:45:08 Speaker 1: Oh film. Amy finally spots Nick just as she's hit with water and falls off a ledge. Russ dives into the mud to save her, and eventually he is able to pull her out, but she is not breathing. Rusk gets her mouth to mouth and she eventually comes back to life. We're now at the mall, which is what we used to call a large center of commerce for our younger listeners. Diane is using the payphone, which is what we used to call you know what. It's too hard to explain, Sorry, kids, google it as chat GPT. Anyway. She calls Wayne, but he isn't answering because he's floating over the lawn in a makeshift apparatus that allows him to hover and look. 00:45:40 Speaker 2: For his tiny kids. Great idea. 00:45:42 Speaker 1: Over at the Thompson's house, the parents are still wondering where their kids are and RV pulls up and it's Don and Floria Forrester, the family they're supposed to go fishing with. Russ regrettably tells his best pal Don he doesn't think they can go anymore, and Floria spots the neighbor Wayne in a very odd contraption. 00:45:57 Speaker 3: She's curious and assumes he's flying. 00:45:59 Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Donna is a set and tells Russ if they're not there by six, he'll loses eighty dollars deposit. So Russ lies and tells them that May isn't feeling well. It's her plumbing, so he sells her out and says she has the shits, also eighty dollars deposit. You couldn't go see this movie. 00:46:16 Speaker 3: With a family nowadays. 00:46:18 Speaker 1: It he no god remember back in the day. He tells Don to hook a big one for him and sadly walks away. The forester's head out as Russ returns home and tells me the kids are grounded because he lost his eighty bucks. We are now back in the grass. Amy thanks Russ for taking care of Nick and saving her life. Russ says he learned CPR in French class, and Amy likes that joke. 00:46:39 Speaker 3: Nick, of course, doesn't get it. 00:46:40 Speaker 1: The kids think they're halfway to the house there are thereabouts, and continue to track, daydreaming about food. Then they run into one of Nick's cookies, now the size of a house. They start pulling off chunks and chomping away, but guess who's also eating the cookie? A massive aunt. 00:46:54 Speaker 3: The kids scream and hide under. 00:46:56 Speaker 1: Some leaves, and I think I forgot what happens next until I saw the ant and I was like, oh I remember this, getting really sad? 00:47:05 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, same, same, yes, same, Yes, it was awful. 00:47:12 Speaker 3: Oh my god, yes absolutely. 00:47:14 Speaker 2: I did too. I completely forgot about that part and I was like, me too, Wow, was necessary? 00:47:21 Speaker 1: No, it is, it is. But anyway, the kids scream and hide under some leaves. But Nick has an idea. Since ants are fast and this one is just a baby, and of course they've got to point out it's a baby. Yeah, they could ride the ant back to the house. They try to mount the ant, but no one can stay on, especially when they are flung off rodeo style. The ant eventually turns its attention to Amy, and she's able to finally wrangle the ant with a piece of cookie. Now above the grass, Wayne continues to searching, now battling Quark, who is pulling on his rope. The dog spins Wayne around, making the rope tighter and tighter, so when Quark lets go, Russ spins extremely fast and has flung over the fence to his neighbor's yard. Russians lant. Russ sees him land in the pool and says that man has serious problems in the grass. The kids have finally managed to ride the ant. They're teasing and motivating, an ant with a piece of cookie hanging in front of them, and at this rate they could be home by dinner. At the Zelinski's, Diane pulls up to see a police car outside the Thompson's home. She runs inside, yelling for her family, but when no one responds, she picks up the phone and calls the police herself. At the Thompson's now, the police are there, and they think there's nothing to worry about. Kids run away all the time, and it's probably because of a spat about football, But Russ isn't buying that his kids are just runaways. The police return to their cars and notice another missing kid report from right next door. 00:48:41 Speaker 3: So we're at the Zelinsky's now. 00:48:42 Speaker 1: Wayne shows Diane his tiny little couch not a euphemism and she realizes his invention worked. She's very excited for him and wonders if the kids know. He then says they do because he shrunk them and the Thompson kids and they're in the backyard and he threw them out. And just then the police arrive, asking Wayne and Diane if they reported kid missing, if they reported kids missing. Wayne tells them there must be a mistake. His kids are in the backyard, and then Diane faints. By the way, Uh, just for a medical point, you always faint forward. Uh, it's true. In the grass, the kids are still riding the ant, but it's getting tired. They probably won't make it home before dark after all, so they decide to let the ant go, thanking him and sending him on his way, And the ant goes off and lives a happy life. That's all we need to know. But of course that's not what happens. 00:49:35 Speaker 2: No, what if they named the aunt well, was Auntie is Auntie? Or Andy Anti Antie? 00:49:44 Speaker 1: But the ant is still following them, and now it's nighttime and both that and then I got into my head, I'm like the ant following you because now you're family. It doesn't know its own family. 00:49:53 Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I kept going, you never really see one ant. 00:49:59 Speaker 2: There's always where are the. 00:50:01 Speaker 1: Well that they mentioned that though they did, which was the way that I thought the clever way of doing it, was like, it's a scout, which you do see one or two? 00:50:08 Speaker 2: Oh yes, So if I ever find scouts. 00:50:11 Speaker 3: They are they are scouts out not they are they are. 00:50:15 Speaker 1: So you kill the scout and you leave the scout's body there with a little sign saying this is what we do to ants in this town. And then the other ants don't come back. It's like the Old West. Everybody knows that that's what you do. 00:50:26 Speaker 2: I was just thinking about, Oh man, we're almost an ant season. 00:50:30 Speaker 1: Yeah, you got hate them. I know, I know, they're they're evil little creatures. 00:50:35 Speaker 2: They're not. 00:50:35 Speaker 3: Actually, they're very cool and they're fun to watch, but not when they're in your home. 00:50:38 Speaker 2: No annoying, I know. 00:50:41 Speaker 1: Uh, it's it doesn't mean they have to do what they did to Anti. And now it is nighttime. Both Diane and Wayne are hovering over the yard looking for the kids. They decide they have to tell the Thompsons. Just as Russ Senior walks out to have a cigarette, he sees the insanity happening next door lights his butt, takes a few puffs, then flicks the lit cigarette into the Zelinsky's yard hard, but as a result of the cigarette flick, it lands near the kids, with ashes burning them and the ant cool again. 00:51:07 Speaker 3: The effects aren't great, but it's still just so cool. 00:51:09 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:51:09 Speaker 1: The Thompson's thought their dad quit, but they know it's his brand. They realize was my brand too, by the way, although mine were lights, he was smoking filters. They realized they can use the cigarette to light torches to lead the way. So yeah, honey, I shrunk the kids, sponsored by Camel and now in the lab, mister Thompson can't believe what he's hearing. May wants to know how this all happens, so Wayne shows him his tiny couch under the microscope again not even miss. Russ assumes it's sorry, I just want to see you did Do you see Wayne's tiny couch? 00:51:44 Speaker 2: Oh my god, I. 00:51:46 Speaker 1: Won't do it any more, promise. Russ assumes it's doll furniture from the swap meet. I don't know who what kind of doll is microscopic, but Wayne is positive he shrunk the kids. Russ calls him a nutcase and leaves. But back at the house, Russ wonder if Wayne was telling the truth. 00:52:02 Speaker 2: Be a pollypocket are that small? Yeah? And polly pockets were big then, so. 00:52:09 Speaker 1: Like I mean they're like they're like an ant size pollypocket. 00:52:12 Speaker 2: Yeah, you have like she's tiny and then her little couch and stuff that she sits on his. 00:52:18 Speaker 1: Okay, all right, fair enough, I stand corrected. 00:52:21 Speaker 2: I don't know why, like a I don't know why the mention of like a swap. 00:52:27 Speaker 1: Maybe there's a lot of polypics. 00:52:29 Speaker 2: I mean we're big back then too, like that was like a Saturday thing. 00:52:34 Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they are great. 00:52:37 Speaker 1: The kids are making their way through the grass now with their cigarette lit lanterns guiding the ways. 00:52:42 Speaker 3: It's true, that's true. Hey, they're using what they got. They find one of Nick's. 00:52:49 Speaker 1: And the thing that was interesting is they never noticed there's never open flame. 00:52:53 Speaker 2: It's just like glowing. 00:52:55 Speaker 1: Yeah. They never actually light a fire. It's just like a glowy torch. Yeah, yeah, which you think. I think probably one of the reasons they did that is because you would think if they lit a bunch of little flames, which would be the smart thing to do, Like if I was them, I'm in the backyard a cigarette lands. Oh thank god. You go and you grab as much tinder as you possibly can. You put it in a pile and you light it on fire, so you signal where you are. That. Yeah, I mean exactly, that's what I would do. You know, your dad's got to be looking for you. So you send up that fire as much as you can. 00:53:29 Speaker 2: I'm right here. But at the same time, not not move. 00:53:34 Speaker 1: That's always move, always move. If you're it's like, it's yeah, you got you gotta keep on the move, gotta keep on. They eventually stumble on one of Nick's legos to sleep in, but there's not enough room for us. Oh that's how it starts. Yeah, enough room for us. 00:53:53 Speaker 3: So he takes the floor. He actually, he's a very gentleman in the body. 00:53:56 Speaker 1: He takes the floor. And then the last ditch effort, he asked Amy if she'll be warm enough, but she just smiles and says good night. And now Wayne and. 00:54:03 Speaker 3: Diana are outside sitting on the steps. She's scared. 00:54:05 Speaker 1: This is all their fault. Wayne says it's his fault, which true, he should have been more careful. Diane knows. They just got to get their family back together. Wayne promises to get the machine working again and tells her to get some sleep, but Diane can't sleep, knowing her babies are out there. Wayne says they're fine because the Thompson boys are with them, and Amy hopes they be. They're fine, the Thompson boys are with them, and of course Diane hopes that they behave themselves Amy and right on cue, Amy and Russ are still awake. Amy wonders why Russ never came over before. He admits he wanted to, but assume she was too popular to notice him. And I love this. She said she was too popular and stupid. Then leans in and starts just making out with. 00:54:44 Speaker 2: Him, and it was like I remember this kiss being don't graphic. 00:54:51 Speaker 1: This is a straight up yes, yes, high school. 00:54:57 Speaker 2: Ma, oh yeah, what's going on? 00:55:03 Speaker 3: French kissing from French class? No cash? 00:55:06 Speaker 1: This might be And again this was not a dcom so different category, right, eighties different category, But this might be. Of all the movies we've seen, this is probably up there with Christy, if not more so. 00:55:20 Speaker 2: Yeah, more so, yes that such a bigger, more passionate a full on screen each other before on screen or you go to a tongue. They're like, yeah, I'm going. 00:55:31 Speaker 1: To excuse me. This was the eighties. 00:55:33 Speaker 3: You didn't ask it came over and said kiss, and that's what. 00:55:37 Speaker 1: You did, just did. Oh wow, it was It wasn't until the early nineties when we started asking. And as Amine Russe are kissing, a stop motion Harry hows and style scorpion appears and again brought me right back to Clash of the Titans. Everyone screams and tries to get away, but Ron is trapped inside the lego and this was genuinely terrifying for if you were a little kid watching this movie. 00:55:57 Speaker 2: My god, hell yeah, oh my gosh. 00:56:00 Speaker 1: Crazy. And that's when their ant friend jumps into action and attacks the scorpion. They get into a no holds barred insect royal rumble. As the group runs for safety, Ron demands they help the ant. He's just a baby. They have to point out he's. 00:56:13 Speaker 2: Just a baby again, I know. 00:56:16 Speaker 1: So as the ant is pinned down, the kids start throwing stuff at the scorpion, giving the ant some time to get away. They pelt the scorpion with rocks and javelins until he scurries off, but they catch up with the ant, who's doing his best to recover because he was stabbed by the scorpion. 00:56:31 Speaker 2: Ron then holds and rubs his slimy little head and. 00:56:33 Speaker 1: Then he dies. He dies. Guys, he dies. It's so sad, it. 00:56:42 Speaker 2: Is so satuded. 00:56:45 Speaker 4: It was. 00:56:46 Speaker 2: I'm not kidding one hundred percent. I think I lied earlier. I forgot up until this point. I forgot that the ant died. 00:56:56 Speaker 3: I remembered when I saw the ant, and I was remember little. 00:57:00 Speaker 2: Baby, and I remember that they lied earlier. I think I might have said that. But when it happened, like when the when the scorpion came, I went, oh, I forgot. 00:57:09 Speaker 1: I think that Jilly Anna, Oh so horrible, And it really it gets you right right in the microscopic couch. 00:57:19 Speaker 3: It just hits you, because yeah, it's oh, it was tough. 00:57:23 Speaker 2: It was sad. 00:57:24 Speaker 1: At the Zelensky's, it is now very early morning, but who cares. Auntie's dead. Wayne has been up all night fixing the machine and then the grass. The kids are just waking up from a nice sound sleep after killing their friend, but they're sleeping in a lego. Meanwhile, Diane walks through the attic to find Wayne to sleep. She recognizes how hard he's been working and tells him that she loves him. It seems like the family's gonna be okay. And then, in a plot point that you've definitely forgotten because we all have, Tommy arrives on a skateboard to mow the lawn as promised, Remember that guy? 00:57:51 Speaker 2: No, Okay, Well he's there. 00:57:54 Speaker 3: And he still throws on his headphones and gets to work. 00:57:56 Speaker 1: With the remote control lawnmower in the grass and clue to the visitor, the kids hear a buzz. 00:58:03 Speaker 3: The ground starts to shake. The kids can hardly stand up. 00:58:05 Speaker 1: It's an earthquake. 00:58:06 Speaker 3: Wait, no, it's even worse. It's a lawnmower. 00:58:09 Speaker 1: Tommy's having a blast with the futuristic tool and just misses running over all of them. The kids are sprinting around the backyard as everything around them is being chopped up and sucked up, and eventually retreat into a tunnel, which Nick recognizes as a burrow built by an earthworm. In the lab, Dian and Wayne are now working on the machine together until she hears something and she wonders if it's a chainsaw, but Wayne knows it sounds like a a lawn mower and they run outside, screaming together for Tommy to stop, and he does finally stop, with the lawnmower just above the kid's wormhole, and this, of course makes it even worse. Nick starts to get sucked up, holding on by just a small route very close to the mower's blades. Diane and Wayne are furiously trying to get Tommy to shut the morro off, but he can't really hear them thanks to the headphones. Eventually, all the kids get sucked up, but instead of being chopped into pieces, Diane and Wayne turn off the remote control at the last second, now throwing everyone to another part of the backyard as the engine finally shuts down. What did you think of this whole holding each other kind of it was crazy? 00:59:04 Speaker 2: I yes, I would. This was just another cool part that I was like, this movie was so cool, especially when I was little. I was like, I mean, even though this was scary, this was the scary part of it. Like you literally think he's gonna die. Caanty has just died, So all bets are off exactly Disney Channel. 00:59:22 Speaker 1: You've showed us you'll kill people. 00:59:24 Speaker 2: Bro are definitely cutting people out of this movie, so, I mean it just this was the scary part. But this was so us so cool and I loved it. Then we've got another inventions and I'm like loving the remote. Why do they have remote? Where is they should? 00:59:41 Speaker 1: I think they kind of do now. I think they have the equivalent of like a rumba but for your lawn, so I could just leave it in a robot, like an I lawnmower kind of thing. Pretty sure. Okay, I'm in southern California where I have no lawn, so we have turf, we do all we don't even have that, we just do. 00:59:58 Speaker 3: We have rocks and and desert plants. 01:00:01 Speaker 2: Oh really? Okay? 01:00:03 Speaker 3: Though alive, everyone is banged up. 01:00:04 Speaker 1: As Nick peeks out from the patch of grass, he sees his mom and dad still search in the backyard. The kids all scream, but neither Diane nor Rain can hear them, and they eventually walk back into the house. Nick is devastated and crying they were so close. Amy comfort him, promising they'll be safe. By the way, we haven't talked about this. All of the kids in this movie, everyone in this movie, but especially the kids, they're great. 01:00:25 Speaker 2: No good, They're all so They're casting is wonderful. 01:00:28 Speaker 1: They're all good. You buy them all. The adults are all good. 01:00:32 Speaker 3: It's the right level of. 01:00:35 Speaker 1: Sentimental and cheesy and kids movie and physical comedy and real threats and really being in peril. It's just really good. 01:00:45 Speaker 2: And I love the relationship. Like she Amy is so protective of her little brother. Yes, the other two boys, like they seemed like a real like a real brother duo, you know what they mean, like. 01:00:57 Speaker 3: That and holding his little brother accountable for like breaking the window and everything. 01:01:01 Speaker 2: Yes, I mean that was that a way to get to some FaceTime with Amy. But I'm okay with Cares. Yeah, you can have two things can be true, two things can be true. 01:01:11 Speaker 1: It was no this The cast was really really wonderful. The young cast especially, just really wonderful. And again I was gonna say Robert Lavera as a joke, but no, Robert OLAVERI I'm getting it right this time as opposed to being eleven. He killed it in the sea, He killed it, absolutely killed it in this movie. 01:01:28 Speaker 3: He did and I don't understand why. 01:01:31 Speaker 1: And it could have just been his choice because he retired in ninety two, so only three years after this movie, after doing the next one. He must have just said, I don't want to do this anymore, because man, did he have the talent to keep it? And the looks the cute kid, he was so cute. Yes, absolutely, yes, Amy comforts him, promising they'll be safe. Just as panic starts to kick in, Quark's big nose starts to sniff around. The kids grab onto his fur, and Amy screams to the dog to go inside and find her dad, which he does. This might actually work, but when they get closer to the back door, the Thompson's cat is way for them again, unlike their last encounter, though instead of running away, Quark just growls and just like that, the cat retreats and now there's a clear path to home. Quark runs right up to Wayne, who's eating breakfast at the kitchen table, to alert him with the situation. Nick loses his grip on the fur and falls right into his dad's bowl of cereal. He ends up on the spoon, but just before he's placed in his dad's mouth, Quark bites Wayne's leg And even though I knew it was gonna happen, I was on the edge of my seat. 01:02:24 Speaker 5: I know, No, don't eat him another like think of the set, like the set where he's diving into Like it had to have been milk, right, like yeah. 01:02:35 Speaker 1: I mean, I mean it was probably just white water so it looked better on the thing. They did some some movie magic, but the giant cheerio I had. 01:02:43 Speaker 2: To jump into milk before I had to jump into the really for a commercial for one Saturday Morning, we all like jumped in like and it was like the camera was high. We were jumping in this giant tub of milk. 01:02:56 Speaker 3: Was it for like a got Milk campaign or something like that. 01:02:59 Speaker 2: No, it's just like we were just like it was regular Saturday and ended up being colored in the like actually what they actually ended up doing. But yeah, it was so crazy. It was all milk and this is the most milk. 01:03:12 Speaker 1: This is a lot of milk. Milk, a lot of milk. 01:03:15 Speaker 3: But yeah, totally cool, though startled at first. 01:03:18 Speaker 1: This is when Wayne finally sees Nick on a spoon and now he sees all the kids and as the kids hug Diane rushes to get the Thompsons. We cut to the attic where everyone is hoping the machine will work, but it just keeps blowing up an apple the Thompsons are getting restless. Just as Diane notices the kids are trying to tell them something. They're acting out something baseball. Wayne figures out it's the laser. The ball came through the window and activated the machine, and it got in the path of the laser. Why didn't you think of this before? Nick again has saved the day, but Big Russ isn't comfortable trying that machine on his kids, fair until they tested on something living first. Again, fair Mark knows where this is going, so he runs out of the room. Very cute. Wayne thinks he should test it on himself, but Big Russ volunteers. He kisses his wife and assumes position as Wayne activates the laser, and just like that, he shrunk down as smaller than an inch, then quickly brought back to regular size. Great Scott, He's got it. The kids are next. Strangely, though, and this is a fun little thing. Russ's hat is a little big on him now, and while they're waiting to be saved, Little Russ asks Amy if this works, will she go to the dance with him on Friday. She smiles and says she'd love to. They hold hands and await the laser super cute. It heats up, then eventually zaps them and the kids have returned to their normal sizes. They all hug, and it also seems like the Zelensky marriage has been saved. As the families regroup, Big Russ offers Wayne a handshake. It's time they put the pass behind them and celebrate as neighbors. And celebrate they do, because it is suddenly Thanksgiving. The Thompsons and the Zelenskys are eating together and cheers to many more dinners as families. The turkey is huge, the size of the entire table clearly blown up by Wayne's machine. And again that alone shows you. I mean, the man is literally just solved world hunger. Think about it, exactly, just solved world on it. 01:05:01 Speaker 2: You instantly start going like what would you do with this laser? Now? Like what are you going to do with it? 01:05:06 Speaker 1: I don't remember, And people will write in because I'm sure they do. I don't remember. 01:05:09 Speaker 3: The next one. I don't remember, honey, I blew up. 01:05:12 Speaker 1: I don't remember me too, And I can't remember are because how they would not come back and have him be a billionaire At this point, I don't understand, like I don't know if he's rich or maybe he gave it to the world, I don't know, but he's obviously just changed the world forever. Well, I mean, think about it, exactly what he was talking about. Think about taking every major cargo ship on the ocean and shrinking it to this big and then flying it somewhere, and you could fit a thousand of them on a plane, one hundred thousand of them on a plane, right, and you've just shipped everything with the cost of one flight as opposed to all that. I mean, the yeah. 01:05:47 Speaker 2: Think about just it's amazing is you could get amazing things? It could do so incredible. 01:05:52 Speaker 1: Yeah, So the Turkey's beside the entire table, blown up by their seen. Amy and Russ are playing foot seas under the table and Quark is nibbling on a massive laser enhanced treat and then as they dig in, Nick finally gets it French class and he starts laughing, what a callback. And that is our. 01:06:08 Speaker 3: Movie, Sabrina. 01:06:16 Speaker 1: Can we do some real reviews? 01:06:17 Speaker 2: Yay? 01:06:19 Speaker 1: Yes? 01:06:19 Speaker 2: This week I have the five star from Ava s bro Bro. I low key love this movie. We watched it in school and I think it's just a wonderful movie. 01:06:32 Speaker 3: There we go five stars, bro, I have the one. 01:06:37 Speaker 1: Star and it's our old friend. Dunama is back again and is not happy this time left one star. He is pissed Disney, How could you make a piece of garbage like this? The acting is poor, the kids are annoying, and it's wasted potential for a great comedic genius like Rick moranis. It's possibly one of the worst performances I've seen in a talented comedian. Plus, the visual effects are cheesy and completely dated. I was born out of my life. It may have had its fans, but I'm not one of them. One star, unamad, I say this for everyone else out there. Go for yourself, bet and now our's our feature are shrunk Kings. Okay, I don't know this one. For Honey, I shrunk the Kids, a film where its main characters must do their best with the size of a quarter inch. It's time to celebrate those in Hollywood who are small. Okay, okay, not quite a quarter inch, but small. Nonetheless, We'll be given a list of actors and we have to guess which of the names is the shrunkest. So, okay, who's the shortest three out of five win. Wow. 01:07:39 Speaker 3: Okay, so it's just guessing essentially. 01:07:42 Speaker 1: Number one? Is it a Tom Cruise, B, Jack Black, C, Michael J. Fox or D Dave Franco. 01:07:50 Speaker 2: Who are we playing with this week? 01:07:52 Speaker 1: Yeah? Good question? Who are we with? 01:07:53 Speaker 2: Mikayla? 01:07:54 Speaker 1: Makayla? All right? Mikayla, by the way, who don't people know? Is six foot four? Mikayla's very tall producer. It's tall producer Michaela's will we always call her? 01:08:06 Speaker 2: I'm gonna go with cee Michael J. 01:08:08 Speaker 1: Fox. Okay, so I know I've met mister mister Fox. It is a dream of mine. Have met him a couple of times, and he's short, but he's not like crazy short. I'm gonna say D. 01:08:22 Speaker 2: Dave Franco, Sabrina, You're correct, it's mix. 01:08:26 Speaker 1: Is Michael J. Fox? 01:08:27 Speaker 3: I feel so bad? 01:08:28 Speaker 1: Five four? Is he really? 01:08:30 Speaker 2: Yep? 01:08:31 Speaker 1: God, he didn't seem that short. 01:08:32 Speaker 2: Okay, no way? 01:08:33 Speaker 1: Five four? I didn't know that. Number two? Is it a Daniel Radcliffe? Which again he can just say ingorgeo and then I'll be bigger. Uh sorry, Harry Potter joke, B, Dustin Hoffman, C. Ken John or D Seth Green. I know Seth Seth is not a tall guy. I'm gonna say s. 01:08:53 Speaker 2: D Seth Green. Yeah, same. I was thinking of someone else, by the way, I was like, correct, Yeah, okay, how tall is five four? 01:09:01 Speaker 1: He's another Yeah he's short. By the way, how both those people, Michael J. Fox and Seth Green. That's a hell of a lot of talent. 01:09:08 Speaker 2: And that's oh my gosh. Yes, I love Seth Green. 01:09:11 Speaker 1: He I've worked with Seth several times, and every time I do, I walk out just going God damn. That guy's good every single yeah, every single time. And also couldn't be a nicer person. But but really he's just funny, uber talented. 01:09:24 Speaker 2: Uh. 01:09:25 Speaker 1: Number three Macaulay Culkin, Frankie Munez, Paul Simon or Rammy Mallick. Mac isn't tiny, is he? 01:09:35 Speaker 2: I think it's Frankie Moonez. 01:09:39 Speaker 1: I'm going to agree with you. I'm gonna say, be Frankie Munez. 01:09:42 Speaker 2: It's see Paul Simon. 01:09:44 Speaker 1: Really he's three. Paul Simon is five to three. I didn't know that. Wow. Okay. Number four Richard Dreyfuss. That's why I said his name, Nathan. 01:09:55 Speaker 3: Lane, Joe Peshi or Jason Alexander. 01:09:59 Speaker 2: Oh I just talked about Jason Alexander, Joe Pesci, he's agree. 01:10:04 Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, see Joe Pesci. 01:10:06 Speaker 2: Yeah, correct, he's five three? Yeah? 01:10:08 Speaker 3: Three? 01:10:09 Speaker 1: Okay, what so mcclown, I'm funny. I amuse you. You know the you know, the funniest thing's talk about a great actor. Oh you know how good an actor he is? So he's five to three. The character he was playing in good Fellas, the actual guy was like six' four and the people who knew him came out and said that guy might be five to, three but he was exactly the character like. That that's the energy that he. 01:10:32 Speaker 2: Has. 01:10:32 Speaker 3: Insane number five and this is our final, one which, again have we won? 01:10:37 Speaker 1: Yet you might have? 01:10:38 Speaker 2: Won, Yeah sabrina ONE i. 01:10:40 Speaker 1: WON i need one, MORE i think? Right mm hmm. Okay number FIVE A Josh, HUTCHERSON B Al, PACINO C Ben stiller or D rick moranis. 01:10:54 Speaker 2: Oh rick moranez Huh. 01:11:00 Speaker 3: Josh Al i'm gonna say A Josh. 01:11:04 Speaker 1: Hutchinson? 01:11:05 Speaker 2: Correct will we both? 01:11:07 Speaker 1: WON i think we both? Won? Hi? 01:11:10 Speaker 3: Yay how tall is? 01:11:12 Speaker 2: He? Josh he's five? Five so my, hey, okay well that's not. 01:11:16 Speaker 1: Short you're not five. Five we talked about, this you're six. Four we talked about. 01:11:21 Speaker 3: That we talked about this. Already can we do A sabrina? 01:11:24 Speaker 2: Sease, yes there's things you did not see or didn't mention it at, all at least not from the. Script So i've got to point them out because they were driving me. 01:11:37 Speaker 1: Bunker, okay you got. 01:11:39 Speaker 4: It do. 01:11:40 Speaker 2: It there is at the very beginning of the, movie before we even go into the it's right after the cartoon, part right when the dog gets it the like. Envelope, uh you see this bright red truck that's parked on the lawn behind a white picket, Fence, like, okay it's the weirdest. THING i had to rewind, it like BECAUSE i kept going it's so obvious because it's like a bright red, truck going like is there something in the movie with this truck BECAUSE i don't remember it, Well, like it's so. Weird it's in the front lawn behind a white. 01:12:17 Speaker 3: Picket so it's the, name it's the. Name it's The thompson's. 01:12:21 Speaker 2: TRUCK i, think, yes it's The thompson's. Truck but it's like a red truck that's like behind a white, pic like how did it even get? 01:12:27 Speaker 1: There and then it's never mentioned. Again it's just, like, no it was like the weirdest THING. 01:12:33 Speaker 2: I. WAS i felt like there was a little bit of a bobble here in the script because it didn't really make sense in the sense of he wakes up and he's, like It's, saturday give it a, rest, right, right but he has a conference on A saturday and she's. WORKING i, MEAN i, guess, DUH i just answered that part from myself because she's a real estate. Agent my parents hurt stage and SO i do know they work Mainly. Saturday so there's. That but, like the conference being on A saturday did really makes sense to, me like a work conference. 01:13:02 Speaker 3: On, now you're, right it doesn't make a whole lot of. Sense it does make, sense. 01:13:06 Speaker 1: THOUGH i guess they had to technically make it A saturday because the kids kids in school, school, right and they're going on a, Trip so that makes. Sense but you're, right why the why would his science? 01:13:15 Speaker 3: Conference part of. 01:13:16 Speaker 2: It was kind of. Weird, yeah AND i, GUESS i, MEAN i did just answer the real estate agent. Situation but that makes. Sense that makes, Sense so. Okay his v dub bug that he parks so weirdly when he gets in the. 01:13:32 Speaker 1: In the no, parkings it's like clearly says no. Parking, yeah like he's just. 01:13:36 Speaker 2: Parking it was just so. Funny it's like, like, no there's no other cars, Around like what was the? 01:13:41 Speaker 1: REASON i think because he WAS i think they were trying to show that he was. Late oh he just pulled up to the. 01:13:47 Speaker 2: Front all, right, fine that's, Fair. Okay the size of the ant and the scorpion didn't proportion out to me to be to make, sense like the. 01:14:01 Speaker 3: Like a hundred times, bigger, right so much, bigger, agreed. 01:14:04 Speaker 2: So much bigger than an Ant like. 01:14:05 Speaker 1: That was like was that a baby? 01:14:08 Speaker 3: Fight Oh, god is that a fight between two? 01:14:10 Speaker 1: Babies BUT i just think that's a baby fight, Maybe. 01:14:14 Speaker 2: But, yeah that scorpion would have been so much. BIGGER i wanted to ask you about the still time like effect that they did with, it like to explain it stop really the stop. MOTION i don't think people really know about. 01:14:27 Speaker 1: IT i think what it. IS i think if that is stop, motion WHICH i think it, is is it's like the old school thing where it's like. Claymation you, know you you take a, shot and then you move it a little and you take a. Shot, okay little and you take a. Shot that's why it's called stop motion because it's like you stop shot a little, bit shot a little, bit and then when you put. 01:14:43 Speaker 2: It all together long taking them to film then. 01:14:47 Speaker 1: And again it's it's that's why The Harry housing, way like, again go you should watch the Original clash of The, titans but it is it's, yeah stop motion takes can take a very long. Time it's like, claymation but with and, AGAIN i don't know enough about. It i'm Sure i'm wrong with a lot of, it BUT i think parts of it are. PRACTICAL i MEAN i know the ant was certainly, practical like it was something they could sit on and interest. 01:15:10 Speaker 3: With that was undoubtedly a puppet of some sort that was remote control or. Something, yes but, yeah that was stop. Animation you could tell when when they came. 01:15:18 Speaker 1: IN i. 01:15:18 Speaker 2: Did, yeah it definitely looked different watching that the mud part of, it when like after the, RAIN i was like that mud looks so. GROSS i think that would be my least favorite day on. 01:15:33 Speaker 1: Set, oh but it's so much. 01:15:34 Speaker 3: Fun it's like you got it. 01:15:35 Speaker 1: Covered and, yes it was so. 01:15:37 Speaker 2: Crazy but then like, again this was so much more extreme to watch now versus then like her like having to like come. OUT i was, like oh my, gosh that looks so. Wild it looks so. 01:15:49 Speaker 1: Crazy the worst part to me when they do, those when you're shooting something like, that isn't the first day you do. 01:15:54 Speaker 3: It it's having to come back the next day where they have to match. 01:15:57 Speaker 1: What you look. Like and now it's morning and you're, cold and it's like we got to get you wet and put the mud on you and do. 01:16:03 Speaker 3: Everything now go shoot. Again you're back in the same clothes that are now, stiff and like that's where it. 01:16:08 Speaker 2: Sucks it is like her hair just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger as the movie went. On it was so. Funny THE cpr he did was, LIKE i, MEAN i have to TAKE cpr class for WHAT i do for. COACHING i. AM i do every other. YEAR i don't think there have So i've now been DOING cpr for over twenty. Years right, there that was the WORST CBR i could ever. See like he would have not saved for at. All he just blew into her. 01:16:34 Speaker 1: MOUTH i know they keep changing cprs it's still fifteen and. 01:16:38 Speaker 3: Two, no fifteen pumps two. 01:16:40 Speaker 1: Breaths, no, no it's thirty thirty thirty chest compressions and then still staying. 01:16:48 Speaker 2: Alive beat, right that's still. 01:16:52 Speaker 1: That it's still done two, breaths so thirty compressions and then two breaths are one. BREATH i think just. ONE i think you just do, one, okay and it's STILL abc. Breathing, okay, yeah thirty and. 01:17:04 Speaker 2: Two OH i got into, okay twenty years is still, no, no, no to go do that? 01:17:09 Speaker 1: Again it? 01:17:10 Speaker 2: Fixed and then the so, yeah THE. Cbr and THEN i also loved THE. Tv that THE tv when he was on the polls and then he was THE tv was? 01:17:19 Speaker 1: It that was the. 01:17:20 Speaker 2: Counter that's like a like a core visual memory of this movie for. Me and then, LASTLY i have to admit it wasn't UNTIL i watched this THAT i understood What french class. Was this is the first TIME i got, it because you didn't get it as a. 01:17:35 Speaker 1: Kid oh my, GOD i. 01:17:37 Speaker 2: DIDN'T i never understood. It and of course when i'd ask my, parents they would be, LIKE i don't, KNOW. 01:17:41 Speaker 1: I don't get. 01:17:42 Speaker 2: IT i don't know what it. IS i don't, know you, know and SO i was, like oh my gosh that this was the first time class made sense to. 01:17:48 Speaker 1: Me i'm going to ask you something that might be way too, personal but this is what we do on this. PODCAST i guess how old were you were your First french? Kiss? 01:18:04 Speaker 2: OH i remember it WAS i BELIEVE i was. CHACUZZI i kissed him and then it was, like, oh you, kissed you, Know like he came, in we, kissed and it was like. DONE i jumped right back in the pool and was, like Thank, GOD i finally had my first. 01:18:47 Speaker 1: Kissing french tastes like pizza and this isn't the worst thing in the. 01:18:53 Speaker 2: World oh, yes it is someone else's pizzas trauma, SIZING i couldn't believe. 01:19:01 Speaker 1: It Oh, god that's so, funny so. Bad yeah, people, Yeah french, Kids, YEAH i. 01:19:11 Speaker 2: Can't you don't know what you're. Doing it's just so. Bad i'm so. GLAD i don't. 01:19:14 Speaker 1: KNOW i. TIME i had to remind myself to write down stuff for Like Sabrina c's, portion because it was just such an easy watch, again you, know like you, said the special effects don't really hold up as far as what we now have, today of, course not even, comparison but it just it held up in the sense of LIKE i literally didn't care because that's what it was back in the, Day like that's the way they all, looked, RIGHT i just didn't. CARE i loved. IT i love the. STORYLINE i love that there's a little bit of, like you, know magic that happens between the mom and. DAD i loved the, characters their, relation like it. IT i, mean, yes you know it does not hold up for the, time BUT i don't care the same. Way you go back and you watch kind of some schlock key fifties movies with aliens that are attacking the, planet and if you grew up watching that kind of, thing or fifties horror, movies that kind of, stuff, yeah you didn't care that it doesn't hold up now because at the time it was. Great loved this. Movie cast is. Amazing rick moranis a. Genius the idea of putting yourself on that watching it as a, child as someone who was a child, actor you just sit. There even now at FIFTY i was jealous of them shooting this thing back in nineteen eighty eight because it came out in eighty.
