<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Mess Mornings with Me Jeff Grub,
<v Speaker 1>your host from GiantBomb dot com. Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're going to be talking about whether
<v Speaker 1>or not your PlayStation games expire, and horror gamers are.
<v Speaker 2>Continuing to feast.
<v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one everybody, because we have
<v Speaker 1>Jana Choa on the show.
<v Speaker 2>Jan how are you doing.
<v Speaker 3>I don't think I've ever been on a Monday.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, yeah, I know who can say at this point.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad you're here though. You know you were out
<v Speaker 1>on assignment last week, so let's get you on this episode.
<v Speaker 1>Start off the week right, you have any chance to
<v Speaker 1>play any games over the weekend.
<v Speaker 4>I was pretty busy myself. I was pretty busy. The problem,
<v Speaker 4>Grub is, despite me being very busy, all of us
<v Speaker 4>being very busy, a lot of good games coming out,
<v Speaker 4>I don't really want to check out and spend more
<v Speaker 4>time in sorrows. It is just so easy for me
<v Speaker 4>to fire up Pokemon Champions.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad though, I mean, this is this is this
<v Speaker 1>is where like the natural state of things, we want
<v Speaker 1>it to be here. We want you just checking in
<v Speaker 1>on Champions I'm glad it's so playable for you.
<v Speaker 4>And it's interesting because some of my normal friends have
<v Speaker 4>also gotten into it, and it's interesting to see where
<v Speaker 4>they're approaching the game with relatively new knowledge versus I'm
<v Speaker 4>not saying I'm an expert by any means.
<v Speaker 2>But arcane knowledge exactly.
<v Speaker 4>I have studied the Blade, and it's interesting seeing how
<v Speaker 4>they approach the game versus you know, me that I've I've, like,
<v Speaker 4>I guess, studied it, actually studied it for like a
<v Speaker 4>couple of gens now, so that that's very interesting. Also,
<v Speaker 4>the heat on the street right now, grub Titanium Court.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm gonna try to play some of it before
<v Speaker 1>we have the BombCast tomorrow.
<v Speaker 2>Have you touched it at all?
<v Speaker 4>No, that I can't help but think the dude, like
<v Speaker 4>the blue guy that is on the the game looks
<v Speaker 4>like Dan right with hair.
<v Speaker 2>Oh sure, okay, yeah, good point. You're right.
<v Speaker 1>That's what we just can't. We're not gonna be able
<v Speaker 1>to play it now because of that, of course. No, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I wanted. I want to play it before the BombCast.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said, I'm still trying to beat Sorrows. I'm
<v Speaker 1>I'm and you know, I'm not having any trouble like progressing.
<v Speaker 1>I'm just having trouble finding the time to like get
<v Speaker 1>a run in. Thankfully, as I get deeper into that game,
<v Speaker 1>the runs have gone from like thirty minutes to like
<v Speaker 1>twenty ish minutes. That's a big chunk of time saved
<v Speaker 1>each run. So I am like, Okay, I'm feeling that
<v Speaker 1>things are going even faster and I'm getting better and
<v Speaker 1>I one shot at the third boss that felt really cool,
<v Speaker 1>so it's like, yeah, okay, I'm I'm into this thing.
<v Speaker 1>I just need to see it through now. I think
<v Speaker 1>I'm pretty pretty close to the end and enjoying it
<v Speaker 1>more and more for sure, and I'm looking forward to
<v Speaker 1>actually writing that review.
<v Speaker 2>Going to try to do that early this week. Everybody.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, there is that review in progress that you recorded
<v Speaker 4>with Mike and Chuck. If folks are curious at all
<v Speaker 4>about Sorrow, so I suggest you go check that out
<v Speaker 4>and see where Graub is that with his thoughts on
<v Speaker 4>the game.
<v Speaker 3>There.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, there's a couple things like I talk about how
<v Speaker 1>I learned in there that will help you when you
<v Speaker 1>first start play start playing the game as well. Some
<v Speaker 1>stuff is like available right away and they don't just
<v Speaker 1>like scream it in your face. They wait to sort
<v Speaker 1>of reveal it to you. Other things you'll have to
<v Speaker 1>have to unlock. And I kind of touch on a
<v Speaker 1>little bit of both in there.
<v Speaker 4>I just real quick, Greb, like, I understand that there
<v Speaker 4>are people that want like definitive thoughts on a game
<v Speaker 4>like ad game release and everything. They want that review,
<v Speaker 4>But I also really appreciate the value of hearing your
<v Speaker 4>thoughts as you were still like marinating and formulating them
<v Speaker 4>on a game.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know if that resonates that much of the audience,
<v Speaker 4>but I myself appreciate it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I think, I mean, as long as
<v Speaker 1>people are getting all kinds of different opinions, I think
<v Speaker 1>it can be useful because I do think a handful
<v Speaker 1>of people are going to go through the same experience
<v Speaker 1>I had of starting off a little bit cool on
<v Speaker 1>the games, as the early runs just aren't as engaging
<v Speaker 1>as it gets here pretty quickly. Think Dan went through
<v Speaker 1>something similar. I'll let him speak for himself on the BombCast,
<v Speaker 1>but talking to him a little bit, it was like, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>we kind of had similar feelings early on, and now
<v Speaker 1>we're both playing quite a bit more so.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think this is an.
<v Speaker 1>Experience at ARC that people are going to go through,
<v Speaker 1>so kind of getting that in the middle is a
<v Speaker 1>good sample of like, what are you going to feel
<v Speaker 1>like seven to eight hours into the game. Yeah, that's
<v Speaker 1>where I was when I talked about it, so you
<v Speaker 1>can kind of see for yourself. All right, let's get
<v Speaker 1>into things, and let's explain ourselves. Were Giant Bomb. We're

<v Speaker 2>Hello YouTube, All right.
<v Speaker 1>We have a lot to get into, so let's start
<v Speaker 1>the morning mess with. Sega releases an Alien Isolation to
<v Speaker 1>teaser suggesting more news is on the way. This comes
<v Speaker 1>from Chris Scullion over at VGC. Sega has released a
<v Speaker 1>teaser trailer for Alien Isolation two, suggesting more news is
<v Speaker 1>coming in the near future. The trailer, which was posted
<v Speaker 1>on the official YouTube channels for Sega Alien Isolation and
<v Speaker 1>developer Creative Assembly is titled False Sense of Security. The
<v Speaker 1>mainly dark, twenty five second video shows a door unlocking
<v Speaker 1>to reveal a raining outdoors area, followed by a brief
<v Speaker 1>shot of an emergency phone booth, which served as the
<v Speaker 1>save stations in the original game. The videos descriptions give
<v Speaker 1>no further information on the game and simply says a
<v Speaker 1>feeling of being safer than one really is. This is
<v Speaker 1>merely the definition of the video's false Sense of Security
<v Speaker 1>title and appears to refer to the save stations themselves.
<v Speaker 1>The original Alien Isolation was released back in October twenty fourteen.
<v Speaker 1>This game was announced jan you might remember back in
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty four already. Oh it's twenty twenty six now, Man,
<v Speaker 1>already been two years, so it probably is time for them.
<v Speaker 2>To start talking about this a little bit.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said, they didn't you know then, like the
<v Speaker 1>story says, they didn't provide a lot of other information.
<v Speaker 1>But they do seem to be suggesting they're going to
<v Speaker 1>talk more about it soon. It's just one of those
<v Speaker 1>games that shows up at Summer Game Fest.
<v Speaker 4>One hundred percent grub. I feel like we're this close
<v Speaker 4>in proximity to SGF where we're gonna start seeing teasers
<v Speaker 4>for games that are already or you know, just games
<v Speaker 4>to be teased. I am one hundred percent sure this
<v Speaker 4>will be playable on the show floor.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, I think I'm with you on that.
<v Speaker 1>People are planning it out rightfully so that this happened
<v Speaker 1>on April twenty six for twenty six, which is a
<v Speaker 1>reference to what is it LV four to two six,
<v Speaker 1>the planet from the original Alien movie. So that's kind
<v Speaker 1>of become the the facto Alien day, like May the fourth,
<v Speaker 1>and all these other days that are happening, yes, March tenth,
<v Speaker 1>which is Mario Day. But yeah, so I mean they
<v Speaker 1>they don't just pull these things out of nowhere and
<v Speaker 1>do it just because that day is happening. They only
<v Speaker 1>do it if they have the time because they're ready
<v Speaker 1>to start like beginning something. That doesn't mean the game's ready,
<v Speaker 1>but it means they're ready to start like really talking
<v Speaker 1>it up.
<v Speaker 2>And that's what this feels like.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, you were talking about this last week, Grab that
<v Speaker 4>it is pretty resource intensive to even prepare an asset
<v Speaker 4>like this unless you are pretty much ready to pull
<v Speaker 4>the trigger, or at least ready to make a substantial announcement.
<v Speaker 4>The original Alien Isolation was a game I was always
<v Speaker 4>curious about, just didn't have the means to play at
<v Speaker 4>the time. And Alien right now, the IP is in
<v Speaker 4>a very hot place. I know that series that launch
<v Speaker 4>the Disney Plus I really liked the beginning of it,
<v Speaker 4>kind of fell flat for me personally at the end, sure,
<v Speaker 4>but Alien and I guess Predator by Association in a
<v Speaker 4>really hot spot right now that I think there is
<v Speaker 4>that appetite for a good Alien game.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>This is a game that does seem like a lot
<v Speaker 1>is still happening though there there's a job posting that
<v Speaker 1>Chris Sculling goes on to talk about, saying, you know,
<v Speaker 1>working on an Alien Isolation being built in on Unreal
<v Speaker 1>Engine five. So they're still hiring up, still trying to
<v Speaker 1>get that team, you know, beefed up as much as possible.
<v Speaker 1>Although that's you know, teams will do that up and
<v Speaker 1>up and through release, cause the games will continue to
<v Speaker 1>get support after they come out, so they'll still need
<v Speaker 1>people to come in there and help out. Yeah, well,
<v Speaker 1>Alien Isolation too, I think my understanding from the fans,
<v Speaker 1>I played some of it like a little bit not
<v Speaker 1>enough to go like to do the thing jan I
<v Speaker 1>like to do, of like, oh, I get it. I
<v Speaker 1>wish I had played a little bit more, but not
<v Speaker 1>far off. And this is definitely one of those games
<v Speaker 1>Alien Isolation that I think would be ideal for playing
<v Speaker 1>enough up up until the point where you could say
<v Speaker 1>I get it, because my understanding is the main criticism
<v Speaker 1>is it went on a bit too long.
<v Speaker 2>It just kind of gets dragged out.
<v Speaker 1>And they had something really really special, and when you
<v Speaker 1>focus on that aspect of it, of the xenomorph chasing
<v Speaker 1>you through an environment and you trying to hide from it,
<v Speaker 1>that stuff is impeccable and people love that. So I
<v Speaker 1>think a sequel right can just be like more of
<v Speaker 1>that and maybe even more focused, more limited down to
<v Speaker 1>in terms of scope, so that doesn't drag on too much.
<v Speaker 2>But I don't know, what do you think.
<v Speaker 4>I'd have to assume that definitely factors in on top
<v Speaker 4>of budgetary concerns right ground, where like we only have
<v Speaker 4>so much money and so much resources to make as
<v Speaker 4>as much of an experience or as long as an
<v Speaker 4>experience as possible, and I think an underrated aspect of
<v Speaker 4>at least this year a little bit of last year
<v Speaker 4>in games is the little bit of editing that happens
<v Speaker 4>in terms of length of a game, right where an
<v Speaker 4>experience doesn't have to be fifty like upwards to thirty
<v Speaker 4>plus hours. You can get a tailored experience like Pragmata
<v Speaker 4>Resident Evil nine, where like you're in and you're out,
<v Speaker 4>but you feel incredibly satisfied in those like ten to
<v Speaker 4>fifteen hours. And if that is what Isolate Alien Isolation
<v Speaker 4>two is going to bring, I'm all for that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I really do hope that publishers, developers
<v Speaker 1>working in this particular space of big name whether it's
<v Speaker 1>video game IP or movie IP, but big name follow
<v Speaker 1>up SQL action adventure game, maybe it's in the horror
<v Speaker 1>genre kind of just follow comes footsteps here.
<v Speaker 2>I think you laid it out perfectly.
<v Speaker 1>It should be about as long as Pragmata or Resident
<v Speaker 1>Evil REQUI I mean we're talking, you know, nine to
<v Speaker 1>fifteen hours, and then and then and then you know,
<v Speaker 1>go go a little bit deeper, focus on the isolation part,
<v Speaker 1>focus on the interaction between the player, and you know,
<v Speaker 1>I kind of hope still just one Xenomorph maybe maybe two,
<v Speaker 1>so you can really just like work about the or
<v Speaker 1>if you're the developed designers, focus on the interplay between
<v Speaker 1>those couple of characters, and I think that could.
<v Speaker 2>Really really work.
<v Speaker 1>And then it comes down to can you really take
<v Speaker 1>advantage of the more powerful CPU and have smarter AI
<v Speaker 1>for these characters going forward?
<v Speaker 2>To me, that would be enough.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, and Greb, an understated thing about Pragmata and are
<v Speaker 4>nine is the replayability. Right where I don't normally try
<v Speaker 4>one hundred percent games, let alone go for a new game. Plus,
<v Speaker 4>I've done that with Pragmata because I'm just so hooked
<v Speaker 4>on how the game feels. And if Alien Isolation two
<v Speaker 4>can just nail that setting, like you've mentioned, fire off
<v Speaker 4>on all the bells and whistles in terms of like
<v Speaker 4>the look and the vibe, but also back it up
<v Speaker 4>with something that is like kind of fun and adrenaline
<v Speaker 4>pumping to play.
<v Speaker 3>I could see this being sticky.
<v Speaker 2>Absolutely.
<v Speaker 1>I'm looking forward to kind of seeing more of this,
<v Speaker 1>and I definitely want to play some more Alien Isolations.
<v Speaker 1>So I know that Runt's great on Steam Deck, but
<v Speaker 1>that might be one of those ones be fun to
<v Speaker 1>save for October.
<v Speaker 2>I lay during the Spooky season.
<v Speaker 3>I saw some people firing off in chat that there's
<v Speaker 3>a VR mod for it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, okay, that could be fun. Man, that'd be terrifying.
<v Speaker 1>Or maybe we get to save it for August.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, that's right, we're jumping the gun. We're scaring everybody
<v Speaker 4>two months early.
<v Speaker 2>Just like we always do it. Giant bomb everybody.
<v Speaker 1>All right, Well, yeah, Summer game Fest. Hopefully we see it.
<v Speaker 1>Jan I'm with you. I hope that means we get
<v Speaker 1>to play it. Let's see, we'll talk about it more
<v Speaker 1>than one all right. Next PS five PS four game
<v Speaker 1>expiring DRM concerns escalate as Sony remains silent on issue.
<v Speaker 1>So this happened over the weekend. People are freaking out
<v Speaker 1>about this, rightfully so. Although maybe it's not like an
<v Speaker 1>official position of PlayStation that has changed, this seems like
<v Speaker 1>it could be a bug. But let's get into it.
<v Speaker 1>Sammy Barker over at push Square Rights. It's early on
<v Speaker 1>Monday afternoon as we update this article, but we're still
<v Speaker 1>waiting for comment from Sony on the PS five and
<v Speaker 1>PS four four's alleged DRM issue. And this is an update,
<v Speaker 1>but it kind of goes over everything, so I'm going
<v Speaker 1>to stick with the update. First, we outlined all the
<v Speaker 1>problems earlier in the weekend, and the story has barely
<v Speaker 1>moved since then. We have contacted Sony for comment and
<v Speaker 1>we've yet to receive word back, but a new video
<v Speaker 1>from Modded Warfare does provide a pretty good summary of
<v Speaker 1>the problem. As noted previously, this issue only appears to
<v Speaker 1>affect newly acquire newly purchased PS four software for now.
<v Speaker 1>There's still uncertainty around whether PS five is impacted as well.
<v Speaker 1>As he shows in the newly purchased software requires a
<v Speaker 1>PSN handshake every thirty days in order to be verified.
<v Speaker 1>When he takes the simous battery out of the console,
<v Speaker 1>which is the battery that just keeps the bios like
<v Speaker 1>time and date update at everybody, these those games get
<v Speaker 1>locked and are no longer playable. The timer does restart
<v Speaker 1>if you connect to your console to the internet, but
<v Speaker 1>this obviously raises huge preservation concerns should Sony ever take
<v Speaker 1>its servers offline in the future. It's still unclear whether
<v Speaker 1>this is an unintended bug or a new form of DRM,
<v Speaker 1>and we're not going to know for certain until the
<v Speaker 1>platform holder comments. Now Jender weis someone talk of people
<v Speaker 1>saying Hey, I talked to some sources inside of Sony
<v Speaker 1>and they're aware of this, and it's not intended. It's
<v Speaker 1>not supposed to work this way, but you know, we'll
<v Speaker 1>see if they come out and actually make an official statement.
<v Speaker 1>At the very least, this is the kind of thing
<v Speaker 1>where it's one of those stories of ah well, nevertheless,
<v Speaker 1>right where that thing where hey, someone said something it's
<v Speaker 1>not but everyone believed it, So the guy goes, ah well, nevertheless,
<v Speaker 1>everyone believed it, so that must mean something. Sometimes there's
<v Speaker 1>something to that jan sometimes in a situation like this,
<v Speaker 1>this speaks exactly to our anxieties about the companies having
<v Speaker 1>all this control over how we acquire games, how we
<v Speaker 1>own them, and this always being an option that they have,
<v Speaker 1>and an option that wouldn't necessarily work with physical although
<v Speaker 1>it certainly can there's ways for them to do it
<v Speaker 1>with physical game purchases as well. So yeah, I believe
<v Speaker 1>that this is something that Sony's not intending to do,
<v Speaker 1>and yet the fact that it could accidentally happen is
<v Speaker 1>going to set off alarm bells and speaks directly back
<v Speaker 1>to the start of the PS four generation, where Xbox
<v Speaker 1>was going to do something very similar to this, Sony said, well,
<v Speaker 1>we're for the gamers, we would never do that, and
<v Speaker 1>they sort of won the goodwill in that moment and
<v Speaker 1>bury the Xbox One in that moment because everyone says
<v Speaker 1>this is super important to me, and it feels like,
<v Speaker 1>has that lesson been lost?
<v Speaker 2>You would hope not.
<v Speaker 3>I would hope not.
<v Speaker 4>And I my hope with Sony not commenting on the
<v Speaker 4>situation yet is that this was just, I don't know,
<v Speaker 4>a mistake, but it is incredibly important to flag these
<v Speaker 4>types of things, to like get a big company like
<v Speaker 4>Sony to comment, to make sure that they are sticking
<v Speaker 4>to their guns and what they had said. Because Grub,
<v Speaker 4>I'm someone and I think you were in a similar boat. Primarily,
<v Speaker 4>all of my games now digital. I don't have the
<v Speaker 4>space for physical games, but if something were to happen
<v Speaker 4>to those servers, my PlayStation library full of like tens
<v Speaker 4>of dozens of games goes poof.
<v Speaker 1>And it's like people walk around with that concern, and
<v Speaker 1>you know it was so far. It's like, well, now
<v Speaker 1>we've still still had access to our games and there
<v Speaker 1>have not been these online checks. As long as you're
<v Speaker 1>logged into your account, there's still some headaches occasionally, like
<v Speaker 1>when PSN does offline with online acquired games. That's still
<v Speaker 1>something that that does happen, but there's supposed to be
<v Speaker 1>ways around it. There's supposed to be ways to deal
<v Speaker 1>with that, and this seems to undermine all of that.
<v Speaker 1>I wonder, I'm like trying to like piece together, how
<v Speaker 1>does a bug like this happen if it's not something
<v Speaker 1>that they're testing. And I think the answer most people
<v Speaker 1>would say is it is something that they're testing.
<v Speaker 2>This is them testing the waters.
<v Speaker 1>As someone in chat said a few moments ago, and
<v Speaker 1>they always want to test the waters to sort of
<v Speaker 1>take the temperature.
<v Speaker 2>Of how would people react if we did this again.
<v Speaker 1>I think there's one other possibility here, and it's that
<v Speaker 1>the the DRM that applies to PlayStation plus instant library games,
<v Speaker 1>the games that when they get you know, two three
<v Speaker 1>games get added every month, and if you don't keep
<v Speaker 1>your active PSN thing, you're going to lose access to
<v Speaker 1>those games. Those are that system is just getting applied
<v Speaker 1>to all PS four purchases in a way that it's
<v Speaker 1>not supposed to. That would be my sort of like,
<v Speaker 1>let's give them the generous benefit of the doubt, which
<v Speaker 1>you know, I don't blame anyone for not wanting to
<v Speaker 1>do that, And clearly this is something that they you know,
<v Speaker 1>there's conversations internally at all these companies about doing stuff
<v Speaker 1>like this all the time. So we don't have to
<v Speaker 1>actually give them that benefit of the doubt if we
<v Speaker 1>don't want to.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yeah, hold them accountable. One.
<v Speaker 4>And I see folks mentioning in chat where oh, no,
<v Speaker 4>I'm in the process of an extended move, or I'm
<v Speaker 4>going to be away from whatever Internet access where I
<v Speaker 4>won't be able.
<v Speaker 3>To fire up whatever reason.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, any reason is one hundred percent logical or possible.
<v Speaker 4>Perhaps you move and you don't know where your PS
<v Speaker 4>five is for a good mom uh huh. Those are
<v Speaker 4>instances that can and will happen to folks. And if
<v Speaker 4>that means they lose their library, what the heck?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, it's it's certainly the situation that I
<v Speaker 1>remember coming up with Don Matric and the Xbox one,
<v Speaker 1>and in that moment at E three when it was
<v Speaker 1>all kind of coming crashing down around them, was like
<v Speaker 1>a sler being like, Hey, I'm going to be on
<v Speaker 1>a ship for months at a time with no Internet access,
<v Speaker 1>because that would be bad for our security as a
<v Speaker 1>military operation. So I want to be able to access
<v Speaker 1>my digitally purchased games on here or any game that
<v Speaker 1>I put into the system. Xbox and he's like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>well we have the Xbox three sixty for that, and
<v Speaker 1>it just like all fell apart, and it's like yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I mean there's going to be people who are edge
<v Speaker 1>cases who are going to buy games and then want
<v Speaker 1>to play those games regardless of whether or not they
<v Speaker 1>have the Internet. And you know, the idea of the
<v Speaker 1>Internet being not the thing that was additive to games
<v Speaker 1>but sort of became this method of deterrence for drm
<v Speaker 1>for these companies.
<v Speaker 2>It's like that was never part of the deal.
<v Speaker 1>We used to be able to just buy these games
<v Speaker 1>and play them, and now you're trying to get in
<v Speaker 1>between that to make sure that no one's getting around something,
<v Speaker 1>or then Xbox.
<v Speaker 2>Is like selling used games.
<v Speaker 1>Now, this is not going that far, but it's on
<v Speaker 1>that spectrum and it leads to all those negative things
<v Speaker 1>that people would worry about, and we do know that
<v Speaker 1>these companies. Sony, in a recent earnings call to investors,
<v Speaker 1>when talking about the PlayStation brand, said the strategy right
<v Speaker 1>now is not to grow the audience. It is to
<v Speaker 1>make more money from the same audience, and they're going
<v Speaker 1>to find ways to nickel and dime all of us
<v Speaker 1>who are in this space, and that is going to
<v Speaker 1>lead to some negative decisions that could be right along
<v Speaker 1>these lines, right.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent grab and you've been a
<v Speaker 4>proponent of this that you it doesn't work to vote
<v Speaker 4>with your dollars because especially in the PlayStation ecosystem, they
<v Speaker 4>have gamers so hooked in the different aspects of it,
<v Speaker 4>the different PlayStation plus tiers and memberships and how you
<v Speaker 4>engage with the system that it does benefit and behoove
<v Speaker 4>you and us as the audience to make a big
<v Speaker 4>stink about it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I think that it is always worth
<v Speaker 1>people like throwing out the thread of I'll go to
<v Speaker 1>PC if you're going to keep being like this, we
<v Speaker 1>know most people won't. We know human behavior is so
<v Speaker 1>difficult to change. So it's like keeping that as a
<v Speaker 1>thread is great. But getting loud in the moment and
<v Speaker 1>the most dedicated people who are paying the most attention,
<v Speaker 1>who have also spent the most money, getting loud and
<v Speaker 1>sort of leading the audience to be like, hey, this
<v Speaker 1>is something actually worthy of your like the common rage
<v Speaker 1>that you carry towards gaming. This is one where it's like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>that might be useful. So yeah, I think that. I
<v Speaker 1>think that's exactly what is happening. People did get loud
<v Speaker 1>about this over the weekend. We'll see how Sony instep responding.
<v Speaker 4>PlayStation I don't need the last of us. I have
<v Speaker 4>Donkey Kong Bonanza.
<v Speaker 1>That's right, get out of here, all right, so let's
<v Speaker 1>do this next one. Fair Games struggles to quote find
<v Speaker 1>the fun in latest pre alpha playtests. This is from
<v Speaker 1>Insider Gaming Haven Studios. The latest playtest of a pre
<v Speaker 1>alpha version of fair Games continues to struggle to quote
<v Speaker 1>find the fun, according to sources familiar. Last week, Caven
<v Speaker 1>Studios ran another playtest under the code name Espresso for
<v Speaker 1>fair Games, but according to those involved, the games still
<v Speaker 1>struggling to find its fun factor and still has a
<v Speaker 1>long way to go into development. This is definitely one
<v Speaker 1>like we've kind of been following this a little bit recently,
<v Speaker 1>getting updates on this. This is sort of another confirmation
<v Speaker 1>that this is happening, that there was a playtest and
<v Speaker 1>that it's not. The response to that has not been
<v Speaker 1>super strong. I think There's some examples from this story
<v Speaker 1>over Insider Gaming of people who like worked hard to
<v Speaker 1>get into the playtest, playing a couple of matches and
<v Speaker 1>then just not wanting to go back, be like I
<v Speaker 1>just don't I just don't want to play anymore, and
<v Speaker 1>say ooh that's yeah. I mean this happens. Finding the
<v Speaker 1>fun takes a long time in games. Sometimes occasionally it
<v Speaker 1>takes up through the near the release of the game.
<v Speaker 1>So it's not like this is a death sentence, but
<v Speaker 1>it's certainly also not encouraging for a game that exists
<v Speaker 1>within an infrastructure at Sony that feels like the tight
<v Speaker 1>is turned against this sort of game in this moment.
<v Speaker 4>Right, Yeah, I mean Marathon Grubb tested very poorly that
<v Speaker 4>alpha came out, and people absolutely hated it, did not
<v Speaker 4>understand it. For my from my understanding from talking to
<v Speaker 4>people that play that it was just not fun, even
<v Speaker 4>people that are die hard Bungee fans, it was not
<v Speaker 4>a good experience.
<v Speaker 2>And peopleho like love Marathon now yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, yeah, compared to how Marathon is received with those
<v Speaker 4>similar audiences now where it is like this is the
<v Speaker 4>go to game, not quite an Arc Raiders yet or
<v Speaker 4>at that level. But a lot of people are are
<v Speaker 4>doing runs all the fricking time. So yep, hopefully fair
<v Speaker 4>Games can get hit into a good position. But I
<v Speaker 4>don't know, Greb, I have no idea what this game
<v Speaker 4>is supposed to be.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you know, my guest continues to be a sort
<v Speaker 1>of very light extraction game, but mostly Payday Payday with
<v Speaker 1>like again, it's those bright, colorful smoke bombs that go
<v Speaker 1>off and hype music videos and when you're watching red
<v Speaker 1>Bull stuff and they have all those things going on.
<v Speaker 1>It seems like a game with fifty of those are
<v Speaker 1>going off at once and then a bank heist. Am
<v Speaker 1>I okay, that's I'll check that out. I guess as
<v Speaker 1>long as you find the fun. Well, okay, they haven't
<v Speaker 1>done that yet. Game's not canceled though, you know it's not.
<v Speaker 1>It's not been scrapped yet. You know, this is a
<v Speaker 1>test that just happened. So all these other things getting
<v Speaker 1>shut down, this one continues to escape by Did do
<v Speaker 1>you think fair Games actually comes out one day, Jane
<v Speaker 1>or what?
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 4>This feels very peculiar because this is like an untested,
<v Speaker 4>uncharted territory to continue, giving a very long leash to
<v Speaker 4>versus any of the proposed and now canceled projects like
<v Speaker 4>like the Last of Us multiplayer game Factions, yeah, the Factions,
<v Speaker 4>or the Spider Man multiplayer mode, where it feels like
<v Speaker 4>this is a no brainer. These have tested and gigantic
<v Speaker 4>audiences that people want to stay engaged in that universe.
<v Speaker 2>But fair games, yep.
<v Speaker 1>I we were talking about Sony and stuff, and you've
<v Speaker 1>mentioned the Spider Man multiplayer game. I didn't make this
<v Speaker 1>a headline because it just seemed like a story that
<v Speaker 1>kind of ended up in a non story position. But
<v Speaker 1>there was rumors that the Venom game had been canceled
<v Speaker 1>because one of the actors was talking about its like ah,
<v Speaker 1>that was gonna happen, and now it's not anymore. And
<v Speaker 1>Jason Chreyer said that this isn't true. I don't think
<v Speaker 1>Venom is like gonna come out suddenly, I like out
<v Speaker 1>of nowhere. Obviously that team is working on Wolverine right now,
<v Speaker 1>but I think once Wolverine.
<v Speaker 2>Is done, I think they will shift back to Venom.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think Venom has been.
<v Speaker 1>Like scrapped, and don't I don't even think it's been
<v Speaker 1>shelved or anything like that. But the last I heard,
<v Speaker 1>it was like, yeah, that game could still come out,
<v Speaker 1>Like yeah, that's how it was phrased to me from
<v Speaker 1>from inside of Sony. So it's like I was to
<v Speaker 1>me that always screamed Wolverine's taken up a lot of
<v Speaker 1>the oxygen and they just can't make decisions like that
<v Speaker 1>until that game gets in a good place.
<v Speaker 4>Greb. I didn't I maybe an outlier here, but I
<v Speaker 4>didn't really enjoy the Venom segments from that Last Spider Man.
<v Speaker 1>I wasn't like crazy about them, but I certainly saw like, ah,
<v Speaker 1>they'll probably make a Venom game.
<v Speaker 4>I just feel like they're doing themselves or it is
<v Speaker 4>a disservice that Wolverine I'm going to assume is going
<v Speaker 4>to be a good to great game, only to release
<v Speaker 4>Venom a couple months later, maybe a year later, and
<v Speaker 4>it is less lesser experience than Wolverine.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I think that, you know, it, being
<v Speaker 1>an expand alone is probably still the right bar to
<v Speaker 1>set for Venom, right, very similar to Miles Morales. So
<v Speaker 1>if you kind of like boiled down to like the
<v Speaker 1>funnest stuff and just make a game based on that,
<v Speaker 1>that could I could still see that.
<v Speaker 4>Working if it's a Venom Christmas game, I changed my mind.
<v Speaker 1>I hope all of their standalone games, their expandalone games
<v Speaker 1>are just take place during Christmas.
<v Speaker 2>That would rule.
<v Speaker 1>That's one of the best introts to a game, swinging
<v Speaker 1>through the mall in Miles Morales. It's Miles Morales. That
<v Speaker 1>where that happens. Right, Yeah, that's that stuff owned. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's keep going. He oh, you know, actually, let's take
<v Speaker 1>a break. We're going to take a quick ad break.
<v Speaker 2>Everybody.
<v Speaker 1>If you want to skip out on these, there's a
<v Speaker 1>way to do that. Giant bomb dot com, slash join
<v Speaker 1>premium members, get ad reversions of the show. We will
<v Speaker 1>be right back. It's Games Mornings. I'm Jeff Grubb. That's Janetchoa,
<v Speaker 1>and we're getting back into the headlines now. With PlayStation
<v Speaker 1>five price increases hit another region, effective of the first
<v Speaker 1>of May. This is in liam Croft at push Square.
<v Speaker 1>Sony's recent PS five price increases are expanding to Southeast Asia.
<v Speaker 1>We call that the c with new prices taking effect
<v Speaker 1>May one, twenty twenty six. According to push Square, console
<v Speaker 1>prices are supposed to go down. Of course, that's not
<v Speaker 1>happening anymore. This is another example of it just continuing
<v Speaker 1>to spread, and it's this like when it happens in
<v Speaker 1>a different region other than the United States. Janet's a
<v Speaker 1>reminder that's like there's a multifaceted number of reasons why
<v Speaker 1>they're raising prices. And I remember when this like was
<v Speaker 1>first really like we were always seeing like pressures to
<v Speaker 1>keep prices higher for consoles through the last couple of
<v Speaker 1>generations now, but especially this generation. And it really really
<v Speaker 1>did start with like early demand, and then tariffs. Tariffs
<v Speaker 1>were the thing like, oh man, they've got to raise
<v Speaker 1>prices because of tariffs. And then since then it's like
<v Speaker 1>no inflation kept happening, and component component shortages and then
<v Speaker 1>worse component shortages, like way worse, and it's like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they need to raise prices everywhere. And then on top
<v Speaker 1>of that, when they release it here, when they sell
<v Speaker 1>something here, it's like all those same reasons apply.
<v Speaker 2>And then tariffs are still on top of that.
<v Speaker 1>So you know, obviously some Tariffsott revealed, but not all
<v Speaker 1>of them, and he's still trying to do more of them.
<v Speaker 2>So that uncertainty exists.
<v Speaker 1>But man, this is the kind of thing where well, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>we're just going to be in this cycle of they
<v Speaker 1>raised the price there, and then they're gonna raise the
<v Speaker 1>price here again, and then they're gonna raise the price
<v Speaker 1>over here, and then there again, and then back over here,
<v Speaker 1>and it's just.
<v Speaker 2>Gonna be this swirl of increasing prices forever.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know, Yeah, And I have no idea what
<v Speaker 4>the economic climate is in these other regions, Greb. I'm
<v Speaker 4>only familiar with how broken hours is. But I have
<v Speaker 4>to assume that prices going up across the board and
<v Speaker 4>somewhere else does not help the desire to even pick
<v Speaker 4>up a PS five PS five pro for those regions,
<v Speaker 4>unless you don't already have it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, someone in Chapi Korl says, yeah, just some napkin
<v Speaker 1>math the PS five pros two months average salary in Thailand.
<v Speaker 2>It's like, yeah, that's yeah too much.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>I understand, like gaming is a hobby and and for
<v Speaker 4>some people it's it's like it's global exactly.
<v Speaker 3>But I if I was.
<v Speaker 4>In someone in Thailand's shoes, that is not a worthy expense.
<v Speaker 4>That And that's the unfortunate part, Greb. Because gaming is
<v Speaker 4>so global, it shouldn't be a luxury, yes.
<v Speaker 1>Right, and it's uh, you know it always felt like
<v Speaker 1>we were moving in a slow arc toward these everything's
<v Speaker 1>becoming more affordable, just that the technology becoming more democratized
<v Speaker 1>and available for everyone, and that just hits such a wall.
<v Speaker 1>And I think they would use the excuse of, well,
<v Speaker 1>a lot of the general audience just plays on their
<v Speaker 1>phones and and and so we're speaking to a more
<v Speaker 1>niche audience. And yet it feels like more people are
<v Speaker 1>playing console games every day, and so they just don't
<v Speaker 1>make the numbers work.
<v Speaker 2>In a way that would benefit us.
<v Speaker 4>Speaking about like Napkin math Grub, I have to assume
<v Speaker 4>that a company like PlayStation, a company like Xbox, Nintendo,
<v Speaker 4>they have to see how the rise and prevalence of
<v Speaker 4>mobile gaming, right, because a lot of it is free
<v Speaker 4>to play.
<v Speaker 3>And sure, some people may.
<v Speaker 4>Wind up spending as much as a PS five pro
<v Speaker 4>over the lifetime of playing a game, but that is
<v Speaker 4>like in little hits versus like this one big gigantic
<v Speaker 4>lump sum. And that's before you even include a game,
<v Speaker 4>before you even include a membership to PlayStation. Plus that
<v Speaker 4>it's no wonder that they're losing ground to these mobile games,
<v Speaker 4>these gotcha games. On top of that, scantily clad characters. Yep, exactly,
<v Speaker 4>lowrider jeans, both of those.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, give them whale tails. That's what they need. Are those?
<v Speaker 2>Is that stilen? I don't know it is.
<v Speaker 1>Hell yeah, we brought it back. Good work, Jan Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I'd like what other people are mentioning in chat that
<v Speaker 1>Southeast Asia very heavy on phones because yeah, that everyone
<v Speaker 1>has one and the games are cheaper, and it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that's gonna be difficult to compete. So it's like, inherently,
<v Speaker 1>I think these companies to view it as if we're thinking,
<v Speaker 1>if our thing is not a luxury, it just doesn't
<v Speaker 1>make sense in that and a lot of these countries,
<v Speaker 1>and now that's just become applied worldwide, It's become applied globally,
<v Speaker 1>and it's just not how do you reverse that?
<v Speaker 3>To me?
<v Speaker 2>Are they interested in reversing it?
<v Speaker 1>Because it just seems like it has limited them in
<v Speaker 1>so many ways.
<v Speaker 4>And it's a bummer grub because I feel like this
<v Speaker 4>also kind of stalls the creative aspects of these different
<v Speaker 4>audiences overseas as well, in Southeast Asia, where there is
<v Speaker 4>like a burgeoning game development scene, and I feel like
<v Speaker 4>it is going to continue to just bubble on the
<v Speaker 4>indie surface or support studios versus trying to launch like
<v Speaker 4>big not triple A efforts, but perhaps double A like
<v Speaker 4>B plus style games, because access to even play and
<v Speaker 4>check out PS five PS five Pro games is going
<v Speaker 4>to be a high bar.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, I think it.
<v Speaker 1>You know again, all these various pressures from all these
<v Speaker 1>different angles of you know, do we keep these games
<v Speaker 1>exclusive and try to grow the presence of our console?
<v Speaker 1>You know, you would think, yes, that's why they've moved
<v Speaker 1>back to this idea of make make our games exclusive again.
<v Speaker 1>But then they raise the price of the console, which
<v Speaker 1>screams to me, no, you got to make the game
<v Speaker 1>available everywhere, because you are pricing out huge chunks of
<v Speaker 1>the world with these prices, and these are people who
<v Speaker 1>would probably be interested in playing your games, and so
<v Speaker 1>you're leaving a lot of money on the table. And
<v Speaker 1>I thought we were past that idea of leaving money
<v Speaker 1>on the table to grow the exclusivity. And I'm sure
<v Speaker 1>they're having these conversations and going back and forth, but
<v Speaker 1>that does mean to me that they will continue to
<v Speaker 1>oscillate that nothing, none of these decisions are going to
<v Speaker 1>be permanently defining what console gaming is going to look
<v Speaker 1>like because they are going to change their mind again
<v Speaker 1>in a few years as as things change, as shift
<v Speaker 1>on the under the ground beneath them, as prices for
<v Speaker 1>components do become more sane again, it's like, okay, maybe
<v Speaker 1>we can go back to the democratization of everyone can
<v Speaker 1>afford a console. At that point, it might be too
<v Speaker 1>late because there could be a lot of people who
<v Speaker 1>just did decide to go all in on mobile or
<v Speaker 1>PC and they've they've bought into an ecosystem. I mean
<v Speaker 1>that that is the story of Xbox here at the end,
<v Speaker 1>here where it was. They had a rough generation during
<v Speaker 1>the generation where people bought a lot of digital games,
<v Speaker 1>and hill Spencer's like, yeah, everyone got their console library
<v Speaker 1>on PS four and now that that now because of that,
<v Speaker 1>they had to buy a PS five. And if people
<v Speaker 1>do break free because they can't afford PlayStation, that could
<v Speaker 1>sort of break the spell that Sony has a little bit.
<v Speaker 1>I think they're not worried about that because for most.
<v Speaker 2>People, where are you're going to go.
<v Speaker 1>If you're already in the ecosystem, you're probably going to
<v Speaker 1>just continue using that ecosystem, So you're sort of locked
<v Speaker 1>in at that price, right.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, you're you're locked in at that price, whether you're
<v Speaker 4>already in the ecosystem or you're just outside looking at it. Right,
<v Speaker 4>it doesn't make sense to me, Grub, But you know,
<v Speaker 4>I'm not a corporate executive.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know the right math.
<v Speaker 2>No, I don't know any of them wrong maths. I
<v Speaker 2>don't even know those.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's keep going. That's why, like I'm in
<v Speaker 1>some continue to play Professor Layton. They always give you
<v Speaker 1>one to like a riddle that's like, wait, is this
<v Speaker 1>one actually a math problem? And the answers always know.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, you just got to read it right, And
<v Speaker 1>it turns out the answers usually just zero are one.
<v Speaker 1>You got to be clever enough to figure out like
<v Speaker 1>what they're trying to ask you, all right, so let's
<v Speaker 1>keep going. Assassin's Creed Hex loses fifty developers as game
<v Speaker 1>targets a twenty twenty seven release. This is from Insider Gaming.
<v Speaker 1>Approximately fifty developers working on Assassin's Creed Hex have been
<v Speaker 1>taken off the project as the new Assassin's Creed leadership
<v Speaker 1>team makes changes. The decision to scale back fifty developers
<v Speaker 1>on Assassin's Creed Hex came last week, just a couple
<v Speaker 1>of days after the announcement that an unannounced project named
<v Speaker 1>Alterra had also been canceled. It's understood that around fifty
<v Speaker 1>developers have been moved from Hex to Ubisoft's inter Project Team,
<v Speaker 1>which is home for developers who are not assigned to
<v Speaker 1>a project at Ubisoft. According to sources familiar with the matter,
<v Speaker 1>members of the inter Project Team are required to secure
<v Speaker 1>a project at Ubisoft within a three month period or
<v Speaker 1>they could face redundancy. So they're kind of being put
<v Speaker 1>into a just a holding pattern. Seems like probably to
<v Speaker 1>lay them off. I guess I don't know that for sure,
<v Speaker 1>but that's what it reads like. As as first mentioned
<v Speaker 1>by ex Jonathan Jean Gusden, who began overseeing the Assassin's
<v Speaker 1>Creed franchise earlier this year, has decided to remove the
<v Speaker 1>cat companion feature from Assassin's Creed Hex. Instead, the game
<v Speaker 1>will take a more grounded approach to witchcraft, with the
<v Speaker 1>game's protagonists understand the science of chemicals, et cetera and
<v Speaker 1>so on to be like, oh yeah, a more grounded
<v Speaker 1>take on witchcraft. Why witchcraft? People might be like, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>what is going on here? This is the one that
<v Speaker 1>takes place during the Holy Roman Empire and it is
<v Speaker 1>about witches in Central Europe at that time. I've I'm
<v Speaker 1>into that idea. I do think that after kind of
<v Speaker 1>hit having a hit with Assassin's Creed shadows jan by
<v Speaker 1>doing finally doing the thing, Hey we did one in Japan,
<v Speaker 1>you are always asking for that. Now they have a
<v Speaker 1>little bit of leeway like make things weird again. But
<v Speaker 1>everything that this screams to me, including getting rid of
<v Speaker 1>getting rid of the cat companion, making it more grounded,
<v Speaker 1>and getting rid of fifty developers that were working on
<v Speaker 1>the game, says to me that Ubisoft is going to
<v Speaker 1>continue to be very risk adverse and scared of trying
<v Speaker 1>things with this game and with this series, which I
<v Speaker 1>think could lead to a very boring Assassin's Creed game.
<v Speaker 4>What do you think one hundred percent grab You know
<v Speaker 4>they're just going back constantly to older games and just
<v Speaker 4>remaking those versus making other or risks. As you're saying,
<v Speaker 4>this does not This continues to not inspire any confidence
<v Speaker 4>in Ubisoft and other leadership at ub Soft. Right to
<v Speaker 4>hear about this incubation program where an employee can kind
<v Speaker 4>of be on a soft probation for all intents and
<v Speaker 4>purposes for three months. That's poor direction, that's bad leadership.
<v Speaker 4>If you cannot find a place for your developer to
<v Speaker 4>go to and apply their skills and work at, and
<v Speaker 4>to lose fifty devs. It's one thing, but also again
<v Speaker 4>to like kind of fall out of continue to fall
<v Speaker 4>out of favor of public, the court of public opinion.
<v Speaker 4>Do they not know that people love cats?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, like cats.
<v Speaker 4>It feels integral to the whole mythos of witches and
<v Speaker 4>like familiars.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, even if you were going to do something grounded,
<v Speaker 1>like if you were going to suggest, like, oh maybe
<v Speaker 1>maybe there's something actually magical underneath here, the cat would
<v Speaker 1>be a great way to do it. I mean, this
<v Speaker 1>just says they were trying something they couldn't get the
<v Speaker 1>technology to work, and so they're coming up with an
<v Speaker 1>excuse of we're going to make it more grounded.
<v Speaker 4>But I don't know, y'all made hawks and birds work
<v Speaker 4>do the same thing for a cat.
<v Speaker 1>But down right, how aren't going it be to have
<v Speaker 1>like a cat follow you around and be a companion character?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>I mean Assassin's creed is definitely one that they want
<v Speaker 1>to be careful with because when it sings, it sings,
<v Speaker 1>it makes them a lot of money. When it really well,
<v Speaker 1>it does very well. But again, I think you're coming.
<v Speaker 2>Off of what I would view as a.
<v Speaker 1>Safe one with Shadows, and I do think people are going.
<v Speaker 2>To say like, Okay, well, what else do you got?
<v Speaker 1>And the answer to that probably should not be basically
<v Speaker 1>another one of the same exact games with a different
<v Speaker 1>checklist map that's okay.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I hope that's not the answer here.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, And I can already feel the chud's storming at
<v Speaker 4>the door of like, well.
<v Speaker 2>This one's a girl.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, that's I mean, Assassin's Creed famously risk adverse
<v Speaker 1>to that as well, where multiple times the studio, the
<v Speaker 1>team working on the games like all right, we're making
<v Speaker 1>this game with a female hero, with a woman as
<v Speaker 1>the lead character, and the publishers, the people with executives
<v Speaker 1>at Ubisoft will come in and be like, well what
<v Speaker 1>if they what if you had two options?
<v Speaker 2>What if you be a boy or a girl.
<v Speaker 1>And that's happened over and over again with this series
<v Speaker 1>and with a bunch of games that you'll be soft
<v Speaker 1>and it's that risked version that you're like, yeah, that's
<v Speaker 1>coming for this game as well. It seems to always
<v Speaker 1>come for Assassin's Creed, and we're in the process of
<v Speaker 1>watching that ship away here, so by the time this
<v Speaker 1>game launches, I won't be surprised if that changes.
<v Speaker 2>Jane.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, she's like, oh, y'all like Witches, but what
<v Speaker 4>about Merlin.
<v Speaker 3>Merlin was cool?
<v Speaker 1>Huh yeah, I mean Merlin was cool, but I'd rather
<v Speaker 1>have Merlin just be like a dude you talk to,
<v Speaker 1>like you find or something like that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>They always like have him be the Leonardo da Vinci character,
<v Speaker 1>like from early Assassin's creat games.
<v Speaker 4>I have to if this game comes out, which you know,
<v Speaker 4>I hope it does, because I hate to see a
<v Speaker 4>game get canceled. You need to be able to drop
<v Speaker 4>a cauldron on someone.
<v Speaker 1>I look, they can make whatever game they want. I'm
<v Speaker 1>gonna play the mod that just has me play as
<v Speaker 1>Sarah Jessica Parker, Parker's character from what is the damn
<v Speaker 1>Witch's Movie that all the kids still like?
<v Speaker 2>Uh hocus Pocus? Thank you?
<v Speaker 1>Jan JP Oh sure, okay, hey man, I get it.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, of course this listen. Just because I prefer
<v Speaker 1>one does not mean I don't appreciate the others of course,
<v Speaker 1>of course, all right, let's keep going here. I'm gonna
<v Speaker 1>I might need your help with this next one. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>thank you. Fortnite won't remove d four VIDs cosmetics after
<v Speaker 1>murdered charge. Oh I shouldn't laugh, but you can get
<v Speaker 1>a refunded. This is from Eddie McCoo at game Spot.
<v Speaker 1>This is I just don't know who this person is.
<v Speaker 1>Epic Games has confirmed that refunds will be available for
<v Speaker 1>cosmetics related to what I'm going to assume is actually David,
<v Speaker 1>the singer songwriter connected to Fortnite who was accused of
<v Speaker 1>killing fourteen year old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. However, the cosmetics
<v Speaker 1>are not being removed entirely, as many asked for.
<v Speaker 2>Why why not just remove them?
<v Speaker 1>So that's the stated position of Epic. They are going
<v Speaker 1>to offer refunds, but they're not going to remove it.
<v Speaker 2>And it's just like the look, I get it.
<v Speaker 1>This is like happening pretty quick in terms of it's
<v Speaker 1>in the game, and and you know, I'm sure you're
<v Speaker 1>gonna have to formulate a response, but I don't.
<v Speaker 2>I don't get why you just don't remove it? Jan
<v Speaker 2>And what the hell is this?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah?
<v Speaker 4>For folks that don't know, and you know, I guess
<v Speaker 4>trigger warning, content warning. This is a very heinous crime
<v Speaker 4>that this artist did and have sound guilty of. Do
<v Speaker 4>not look into it. But this doesn't make yourself For
<v Speaker 4>a gigantic company like Epic to keep a convicted murderer
<v Speaker 4>in the game. I just don't understand, especially when a
<v Speaker 4>good chunk of your target audience are teenagers. And like,
<v Speaker 4>it doesn't matter that this was this David skin may
<v Speaker 4>have been popular or that like people use the emote,
<v Speaker 4>there are people are gonna start using this in very
<v Speaker 4>poor taste.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, if they're not doing it already.
<v Speaker 2>I don't want to see this with we're playing that game.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, no, yeah, it's it's it's ugly, it's terrible. I
<v Speaker 4>don't know why you would keep this. And sure people
<v Speaker 4>can make the argument and the whataboutisms of like, oh,
<v Speaker 4>there are these different characters fictional characters in the game
<v Speaker 4>that also have committed heinous crimes or whatever. Sure, Darth Vader,
<v Speaker 4>but David is a real person, Epic, just take him
<v Speaker 4>out of the game. Do more than just issuing refunds.
<v Speaker 4>This is a person that has murdered a child. And
<v Speaker 4>when you are appealing to children. It does not make
<v Speaker 4>any sense to keep him in the game, erase him.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's uh, you know again, I think we might
<v Speaker 1>be early. In Epic's response to this, yeah go ahead, Jane.
<v Speaker 4>Folks are saying, like, allegedly, like either way, if someone
<v Speaker 4>is tied to a potential murder of a fifteen year
<v Speaker 4>old or fourteen fifteen year old, I don't want them
<v Speaker 4>anywhere near this.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think that. Yeah, right, if there's any sort
<v Speaker 1>of yeah, I think it. The same thing to do
<v Speaker 1>here is just be like, let's take because I think
<v Speaker 1>you're right that the use from the community could be
<v Speaker 1>in poor taste and you cannot control that unless you
<v Speaker 1>just remove the option and the idea of having someone
<v Speaker 1>confronted with that and then leading to the details here,
<v Speaker 1>which are incredibly gruesome, so much so that it's like
<v Speaker 1>I've had to like sort of put them over like
<v Speaker 1>out of my mind because it is very difficult to
<v Speaker 1>think about that, so like to be hit with it
<v Speaker 1>when you're not expecting it. Epic just can't be part
<v Speaker 1>of that. They're just going to have to do something
<v Speaker 1>more here now, I think they probably will. They are
<v Speaker 1>saying that this is they have. They've heard the concerns
<v Speaker 1>and they have multiple things they're doing, and they said
<v Speaker 1>the first things are they like these refunds things like that.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, I think I wouldn't be surprised if in
<v Speaker 1>an update here very soon they are just explicit.
<v Speaker 2>Like at the very least you got to give like
<v Speaker 2>maybe make it.
<v Speaker 1>Default that you block people being able to view it,
<v Speaker 1>and like, yeah, I don't know, but I why not
<v Speaker 1>just remove it from the game, I think, And then
<v Speaker 1>you know, give a refund to everybody. Can't It's got
<v Speaker 1>to be worth it to just get like get rid
<v Speaker 1>of this and completely lop it off from the game and.
<v Speaker 4>Grub like this is like this is just one aspect
<v Speaker 4>of this artist's like wrongdoings there.
<v Speaker 3>If people look.
<v Speaker 4>Into the case, this isn't the only heinous thing he's
<v Speaker 4>done and participated in and epic. If you're going to
<v Speaker 4>continue to appeal to children, you actually have to respect
<v Speaker 4>and protect them. And I know that that is a
<v Speaker 4>gargantuan task for some game companies to actually think of
<v Speaker 4>the children and young younger audiences, But you have to
<v Speaker 4>fucking do.
<v Speaker 2>That, yep.
<v Speaker 1>And yeah, we'll reiterate everything here as far as we
<v Speaker 1>know has been alleged by by you know the claims here,
<v Speaker 1>and hopefully we just get the truth and justice is served.
<v Speaker 1>All right, harrowing stuff. Thanks everybody for hanging there with us.
<v Speaker 2>I just think.
<v Speaker 1>Epics got to do something more. Hopefully they do, and
<v Speaker 1>we could just move on from this because and again
<v Speaker 1>justice gets served. Xbox starts SGF play Day's positioning. This
<v Speaker 1>is from the Xbox wire post that they put up
<v Speaker 1>this morning talking about a lot of like indie games
<v Speaker 1>that they plan to showcase during the Summer Game Fest
<v Speaker 1>play Days, which is the event where you can people
<v Speaker 1>in the industry can actually go and play these games.
<v Speaker 1>They have a list of games that includes Grounded to
<v Speaker 1>an Emo, which I learned how to say Grave, Seasons, Gungrave, Gore,
<v Speaker 1>Blood Heat, Valor Mortis, excuse me, Erosion, don't fret way
<v Speaker 1>to the woods, and my arms are longer now. It's
<v Speaker 1>a bunch of like mostly smaller stuff, but like partner games,
<v Speaker 1>and they've made a big point of like, yeah, we
<v Speaker 1>are going to have like an alley at SGF where
<v Speaker 1>you can play all this stuff. And again, it just
<v Speaker 1>brings me back to wondering jan like, how does Xbox
<v Speaker 1>view its place in sort of promoting games as it's
<v Speaker 1>placed when it comes to being at Summer Game Fest.
<v Speaker 1>They're curating a lot of stuff, and they do seem
<v Speaker 1>pretty decent at bringing attention to some of these games.
<v Speaker 1>But at the same time, I don't think people buy
<v Speaker 1>a lot of these games on Xbox. They end up
<v Speaker 1>doing well, they're better in other places, and then do
<v Speaker 1>they believe that this feeds into the excitement for the brand,
<v Speaker 1>which then feeds into excitement for their first party stuff.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. Jane.
<v Speaker 1>Again, I'm not like, this is not criticism, but I
<v Speaker 1>do wonder how Xbox views itself in terms of all
<v Speaker 1>of these ways that it can sell games.
<v Speaker 2>What do you think?
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I am very curious with how Xbox is going
<v Speaker 4>to try and position themselves because these aren't going to
<v Speaker 4>be exclusives, or are some of these games are not
<v Speaker 4>going to be exclusives. I'm interested to see how the
<v Speaker 4>lifespan of a internal game like Kiln will be underneath
<v Speaker 4>the like new Xbox umbrella, this new not actually new
<v Speaker 4>old the same umbrella, and how will there be continued
<v Speaker 4>support for Kiln outside of double Fine of course trying,
<v Speaker 4>you know, making adjustments and whatnot.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>This could be Xbox.
<v Speaker 4>Trying to make a play for goodwill, maybe trying to
<v Speaker 4>take a jab at PlayStation. It just feels like, I
<v Speaker 4>don't know, I forget what it's called grub, but when
<v Speaker 4>you're on someone's shoulders in a pool and and like, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>pushing at someone trying to take out another like a duo.
<v Speaker 4>It feels like that for Xbox and PlayStation, but both
<v Speaker 4>are doomed to like both fall in the water eventually.
<v Speaker 1>Chicken fight. Chicken fight, Thank you man, my brain blanked
<v Speaker 1>as well. Yeah, it's called a chicken fight. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I think that.
<v Speaker 1>Xbox believes that, like good vibes are still a currency
<v Speaker 1>that they need to earn and spend, and they have
<v Speaker 1>been pretty decent at doing that in the past, and
<v Speaker 1>I think that people were always sort of waiting for
<v Speaker 1>them to couple that up with good vibes from actually
<v Speaker 1>releasing fun video games.
<v Speaker 2>This is a year where they're.
<v Speaker 1>Going to have more of that than maybe they've had
<v Speaker 1>in a very long time, if not ever, as long
<v Speaker 1>as all the games hit. That's also an old story
<v Speaker 1>that we've said a million times now, but you know,
<v Speaker 1>we're a month away from forts Horizon six, that is
<v Speaker 1>a game that is very likely going to review very well,
<v Speaker 1>and if that's like the start of a good year
<v Speaker 1>from them, including Halo Campaign Evolved and Gears of War
<v Speaker 1>e Eday and a handful of other things that you know,
<v Speaker 1>Fable which could still come out.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so all.
<v Speaker 1>That stuff hits like okay, yeah, then you know, couple
<v Speaker 1>that up with and we're working hard to make sure
<v Speaker 1>that all these indies still have a fun place, a
<v Speaker 1>fun console to come to, and we're going to show
<v Speaker 1>them off and be their partners.
<v Speaker 2>It's like, yeah, okay. I do think that people are
<v Speaker 2>a little bit more.
<v Speaker 1>Skeptical of Xbox's cheery attitude towards that stuff, because it's like,
<v Speaker 1>what we really care about is a strong console that
<v Speaker 1>is delivering fun and special exclusives more than anything else.
<v Speaker 4>I'm curious to what the general gaming audience feels towards
<v Speaker 4>the Xbox at this point, because I feel like a
<v Speaker 4>lot of them have smartened up and have been burned
<v Speaker 4>by the company. I don't know if this like focus
<v Speaker 4>on vibes and focus on indie games is specifically what
<v Speaker 4>those die hard Xbox people want, you know.
<v Speaker 1>I think what they want is like to believe Xbox
<v Speaker 1>when they say a game is gonna come out, and
<v Speaker 1>after like stuff like Perfect Dark and a bunch of
<v Speaker 1>like contraband a bunch of games getting canceled in the
<v Speaker 1>last year or so. Uh, and you know, price increases,
<v Speaker 1>all all this stuff happens, like, eh, you could the
<v Speaker 1>talk is cheap and actually, you know, using your position
<v Speaker 1>to partner with these games that also seems relatively cheap,
<v Speaker 1>Like are you gonna build a place that I can
<v Speaker 1>believe that when you say you're gonna put a game out,
<v Speaker 1>you're actually going to do it. And that doesn't even
<v Speaker 1>begin to get into the problems that people have with
<v Speaker 1>Microsoft as a company, whether they're supporting genocide or they're
<v Speaker 1>laying off tens of thousands employees of employees, or they
<v Speaker 1>are maybe enemy number two or three in terms of
<v Speaker 1>in terms of AI taking over everything and propping up
<v Speaker 1>the economy on a glass of our House of cards. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>people just don't feel those vibes the way they once
<v Speaker 1>once did, back when the common refrain for anything Xbox
<v Speaker 1>was game passed the best deal in games. That's we're
<v Speaker 1>long past that, and everyone's sort of seen through the facade.
<v Speaker 1>And obviously the new leadership wants to rebuild a lot
<v Speaker 1>of that and wants to think that they can do that,
<v Speaker 1>you know beginning here, But I don't know. It feels
<v Speaker 1>like kind of going back to the same playbook and
<v Speaker 1>expecting different results.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, we are well way past the positive fervor of
<v Speaker 4>something like Xbox Live Arcade though.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Pushing and like saying like, hey, we got all these
<v Speaker 4>indies does not inspire confidence or even like, if anything,
<v Speaker 4>it just makes me think, like, damn, y'all used to
<v Speaker 4>be hell is sick and now we are where we are?
<v Speaker 2>Yep, yeah, just we used to get one versus one hundred.
<v Speaker 1>Now we don't, right, make us one versus one hundred.
<v Speaker 1>Oh fuck, get the work check, okay. Nate the Hate
<v Speaker 1>says the rumored Star Fox game will be released in June.
<v Speaker 1>He also added that if the game doesn't get announced
<v Speaker 1>in April, it means Nintendo made a marketing pivot. Well
<v Speaker 1>it's April twenty seventh, but April's not over yet jan
<v Speaker 1>so there's still time for this to get announced.
<v Speaker 2>Do you think that?
<v Speaker 1>But it does mean that if you know, as he
<v Speaker 1>lays it out here, if the marketing pivot hasn't happened,
<v Speaker 1>and this game is coming out in June, that it
<v Speaker 1>should get announced this week.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know, grub this feels so I don't I've
<v Speaker 4>stopped trying to understand Nintendo's patterns.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, there's that's just that way lies insanity.
<v Speaker 4>Of course, I don't know, because I the one of
<v Speaker 4>the positive sentiments coming out of that movie is that
<v Speaker 4>Fox McLoud is cool. Do I don't know what type
<v Speaker 4>of thing they were waiting for to announce this game
<v Speaker 4>in terms of like a marketing pivot. I don't know
<v Speaker 4>if this is something that you now push a couple
<v Speaker 4>weeks or months back to announce at an SGF, unless
<v Speaker 4>they were waiting for like a renewed push when that
<v Speaker 4>Mario movie goes to streaming where more people will be
<v Speaker 4>able to see it and then become familiar with Fox
<v Speaker 4>McLoud or star Fox being in the game.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 4>This would be a fun surprise drop.
<v Speaker 2>I guess I think that, uh, it would be fun.
<v Speaker 1>I think we are in the wake of Mario Galaxy movie,
<v Speaker 1>where that character has been more prominent than he's been
<v Speaker 1>anywhere else maybe ever, but especially recently, And so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think that look, I believe I think this thing's
<v Speaker 1>going to get announced this week or soon, but it
<v Speaker 1>could happen this week.
<v Speaker 2>And I do think the things out in June.
<v Speaker 1>You know, I've definitely have like heard things along those lines,
<v Speaker 1>things I couldn't confirm, so I couldn't come out and
<v Speaker 1>explicitly say, but it was like that seems to be
<v Speaker 1>kind of what Nate had been suggesting, like June or July,
<v Speaker 1>and I'm like, June sounded right to me, And now
<v Speaker 1>here we are he's saying June, and again, I'm I'm
<v Speaker 1>choosing to believe.
<v Speaker 2>We'll see what happens.
<v Speaker 1>I still don't know and haven't confirmed anything myself, but yeah,
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo seems to be leaning towards Nintendo Today announcements.
<v Speaker 1>There's been stuff recently with like Splatoon, Raiders and others
<v Speaker 1>that did just pop up in Nintendo Today and then
<v Speaker 1>got some social media and YouTube announcements. I think they
<v Speaker 1>might do the same thing with star Fucks and yeah,
<v Speaker 1>we'll be playing that thing in less than two months.
<v Speaker 1>I hope it's awesome. I hope star Fox does well.
<v Speaker 1>It's back back.
<v Speaker 4>I'm very ready for star Fox to be my new hyperfixation.
<v Speaker 4>Because he seems very cool. He's very cool.
<v Speaker 1>He really is speaking of cool, A Metroin movie may
<v Speaker 1>become a reality as two studios battle for rights this story. God,
<v Speaker 1>I did not get where this came from. I think
<v Speaker 1>it was like Nintendo Everything or something. File this one under. Yes,
<v Speaker 1>this sounds plausible, but I shall maintain a healthy dose
<v Speaker 1>of skepticism because with Nintendo now well on the way
<v Speaker 1>to delivering its Legend of Zelda movie after Super Mario's
<v Speaker 1>recent success, it sounds like Metroid might be next in
<v Speaker 1>line to receive an adaptation.
<v Speaker 2>As reported by dot Esports, there was a post on.
<v Speaker 1>Social media that says that Nintendo is actively pitching a
<v Speaker 1>Metroid movie with Sony and Universal in a heated race
<v Speaker 1>to secure the rights. Those are the two companies that
<v Speaker 1>are working within Nintendo right now on films. Universal obviously
<v Speaker 1>doing the Mario movies and Sony's doing the Zelda movies.
<v Speaker 1>I think there's this idea right now that after the
<v Speaker 1>Mario movies did so well, that Universal kind of kicking
<v Speaker 1>itself or letting Sony get Zelda, and they don't want
<v Speaker 1>that to happen again. So they're like, we need to
<v Speaker 1>really make sure we lock Down other Nintendo IP and
<v Speaker 1>Sony's like having the Sony pictures again, is having the
<v Speaker 1>idea of like the same thing, because it seems like
<v Speaker 1>they're beginning to believe in the Zelda movie, which to
<v Speaker 1>me is like, oh, all right, what does that look like?
<v Speaker 1>But that's probably just because Mario is doing so well.
<v Speaker 1>Jan It's Hollywood. These stories happen all the time. There's
<v Speaker 1>just like Halo. There's been a number of times where
<v Speaker 1>a Metro movie has been in production and it's never happen.
<v Speaker 1>Has not happened yet? Is this time different?
<v Speaker 4>I a little a little discrub right, but with the
<v Speaker 4>success of the Mario movies and Nintendo has to also
<v Speaker 4>see and recognize the success of the Sonic movies doing
<v Speaker 4>incredibly well. There's the Zach Krieger Resident Evil movie coming
<v Speaker 4>out later this year. Yes, the logo for that just
<v Speaker 4>dropped in surprise, surprise, it's just the Resident Evil logo,
<v Speaker 4>but in black and red. I more so understand this
<v Speaker 4>from the studio standpoint of everyone seeing the heat that
<v Speaker 4>Mario is drawing and trying to battle for those rights.
<v Speaker 4>That doesn't necessarily mean anything will get made.
<v Speaker 2>But.
<v Speaker 4>Those rights are hot right now, right We're gonna start
<v Speaker 4>seeing battles for those movie that movie IP very very soon,
<v Speaker 4>and it's gonna start eking out outside of Nintendo. I
<v Speaker 4>fully believe we will see a like a big, big
<v Speaker 4>Ratchet and Clank movie. And I know we did have
<v Speaker 4>a Ratchet Clank movie, but I feel like another one
<v Speaker 4>soon because these studios are gonna be like scrambling for
<v Speaker 4>what is the next big video game adaptation. It happened,
<v Speaker 4>it was a very slow burn and eventual process with
<v Speaker 4>comic book IP, but look at where we are now
<v Speaker 4>twenty years later after like the MCU, It's gonna be
<v Speaker 4>the same thing with video games in just a few.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I think the big thing is Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>when when it's pitching, these companies can.
<v Speaker 2>Be like, look, if a character is in Smash Brothers, they.
<v Speaker 1>Are popular enough for a movie because all like that,
<v Speaker 1>those games are so popular. There is a massive audience
<v Speaker 1>of Smash players that are very familiar with these characters
<v Speaker 1>from that game, and Samus is like one of the
<v Speaker 1>key ones there. So I think, you know, I think
<v Speaker 1>that means we eventually get like one for a lot
<v Speaker 1>a lot of the main characters that were big in Melee,
<v Speaker 1>like including Captain Falcon. Uh so yeah, I think we
<v Speaker 1>kind of get everything eventually. All Right, that does it
<v Speaker 1>for the headlines, everybody. We've got to start wrapping up
<v Speaker 1>this show. Uh let's see here, there's no poll question.
<v Speaker 1>It's a Monday. We did the Bomb twelve on Friday.
<v Speaker 1>The Bomb twelve has been updated on giant bomb dot com.

<v Speaker 1>We'll have a new poll question. Let's do that right now. Actually,
<v Speaker 1>have you played Alien Isolation?
<v Speaker 2>Yes or no?
<v Speaker 1>Those are your options. We'll talk about that and get
<v Speaker 1>the responses on Wednesday for Game mess Mornings here on
<v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb. Speaking of Giant Bomb, tomorrow's the Bomb Cast,
<v Speaker 1>Wednesday's Blake Club, Thursday's Voicemail Dump Truck Friday is upf
<v Speaker 1>what else do we have happening?
<v Speaker 4>Jan We will announce soon a new episode of Portal
<v Speaker 4>Pals is going up tomorrow. Gang, so get your PEPs ready, Grub,
<v Speaker 4>I'm just gonna janifest this now. I'm gonna put this
<v Speaker 4>out into the ether, out into the universe. Metroid movie.
<v Speaker 4>You know you should direct it, Folks at home. Dan Trachtenberg,
<v Speaker 4>Hell yeah, hell yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean he's he's kind of been on fire, I think,
<v Speaker 1>I mean what he's done with Predator. But man, ten
<v Speaker 1>Cloverfield Lane continues to be such a good movie. I
<v Speaker 1>go back to that one all the time. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's see anything else. I think we got everything kind
<v Speaker 1>of wrapped up here. Jan I'm gonna thank you for
<v Speaker 1>hanging out with me and talking about video games.
<v Speaker 2>Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>What a wonderful way to start the week.
<v Speaker 2>Grub.
<v Speaker 1>Hell yeah, thank you all for watching and listening. You're
<v Speaker 1>the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a
<v Speaker 1>good one, take care of yourself, and goodbye.
