Episode 22 - Rogue Traders

The 40k Lorecast

On today's cast me move away from regimented canon to more "rumor" lore, with our coverage of the Rogue Traders. We cover what a Rogue Trader is, how they become one, and how they function within the imperium (they are very critical). We also dive into some of their models and ways to play with them in the 40k Universe.

[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Forty K. Lorcast with me, John Barsati and Brad Chester, this guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've read it down in a bunch of episodes about heavy cannon, incredible stories, let's do some fun bits.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's, I heard there's a video game out.
[SPEAKER_01]: I actually didn't realize that after I started writing this program, I didn't use this button.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's called road trainer, but anyway, that's fair.
[SPEAKER_01]: And actually, I keep looking.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm actually, unfortunately, at a point of the year, with my job where you can't add a video game because I don't have the kind of time, like, borders gate three.
[SPEAKER_01]: I still haven't played because I've been so busy since it's hurtful.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know, you have no idea how much I've had.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to play it, but I look at it and go, if I click download, I'm screwed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Look, your children, your children, your child.
[SPEAKER_02]: He can get by with what a dad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's my company, my respond back with, like, did you just not work for a month?
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like that he just went, Max will be fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can make it up to him.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's more of my company.
[SPEAKER_01]: We just lose a quarter of production out of you because you're down.
[SPEAKER_02]: I assume that he's also going to be a game where he gets older and you're going to be like, I didn't see you for a while.
[SPEAKER_02]: That just like, Baldur's gay three came out.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, you know what?
[SPEAKER_02]: That was a fair point.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's fair point, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: I see what he's coming from.
[SPEAKER_01]: But can you imagine a Final Fantasy VII came out right now?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, just the world would've stopped.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank God it was all nerds that we were all young.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I will say though.
[SPEAKER_01]: So road trader is actually speaks is really, this is one of the parts of the lore of the game that actually really eats and gets into my soul because one of the first video games I ever fell in love with was Wing Commander Privateer, which
[SPEAKER_01]: Man did I just let everyone know how old I am because most of you are saying I've never heard of that few of you might think was that the game where you fought weird lion things?
[SPEAKER_01]: No, but for that there was a game now I will say there was a some guys managed to change it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, there was a period of time about a decade plus a go where you could download an updated version of Wink Mandir private here because he will took it on themselves to rewrite it
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, those people are, if you're one of those people, you're a champion.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, if you take abandon where games and make them so I can play them now, where a shirt that you do it, I'll hug you in public and buy you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would definitely buy it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I will buy you food and hug you.
[SPEAKER_01]: You make when you let me relive moments of my youth that I thought were forgotten.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love you, champions.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love you.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, road traders, road traders are just fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like the idea of a small band of the people.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's also a wildly encompassing term though, because road traders can be firefly or it can be a guy that grabbed a space hole and cruises around the galaxy with it.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's so, I'm a road trader.
[SPEAKER_02]: What does that mean?
[SPEAKER_02]: It means I'm either Microsoft or a dude with a lemonade stand.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, we're somewhere in the middle.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just love road trader because what you have is, I like the idea of we talk so much about the lore of Forty K. Life in the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: Life for a Xenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: All this movement.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I like these people who kind of are on the edges of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's how road traders are.
[SPEAKER_01]: Road traders are having to fly through these giant space wars, all of this stuff and just kind of navigate their way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Look the way through a world.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, I think they're just cool as shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's do road traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start off with.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just wanna throw that might, I have two paper towels in my pocket right now, and I spilled wine on a table, and I used my sleeve to wipe it out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you may have, you had made probably a swishing sound because of the camera that was Brad.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was watching do it, spilled a drop of wine on a black table.
[SPEAKER_01]: The sighted that that's not good, and it actually cleaned up.
[SPEAKER_01]: First, you took his hand, which is, it didn't work at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a super absorbent, and then used his sleeve.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, paper talon both my pockets.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, this was your listen to genius.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, road traders are, road traders are literally.
[SPEAKER_02]: the PCs in any game system.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, they just are.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the best way to describe them because they're pirates, they're private tiers, they're merchants, they're explorers, and they are loyal servants of the Imperium, cough, cough.
[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of.
[SPEAKER_01]: Stayed to loyal servants of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have a plot.
[SPEAKER_02]: The funny part about it is they legitimately have a plaque
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that says that they're little servants of the imperial.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's not alive.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have it stamped on their ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that that allows them, which is another weird one.
[SPEAKER_01]: It stamped on the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you can't see in space very well inside the stamp on a ship.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it makes no sense whatsoever, but they do have a stamp.
[SPEAKER_02]: They literally have a plaque.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing is, is that these guys encompass cough cough, please, Henry Campbell, do some stuff with this, because you can literally touch, they touch every race.
[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are just free for alls.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have guys, they talk to elderly, they talk to tell.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've literally encountered orcs.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've ran away from turnheads.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've, they've, they've been stores on that having orcs.
[SPEAKER_02]: Buddy, they trade with the Grots.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a real thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, hey man, we need this and it will give you whatever weird thing that you want, which is usually, I was just saying, it's mostly.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably like that's going to be a weird trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to go buy this thing from the Orcs.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, where do we go?
[SPEAKER_01]: Do that really weird dentist on I call on four.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to go see him for a bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing is, is that some of these guys in this way said that the road traders are, when I said their Microsoft lemonade stand, because some road traders hold sway, and they are like, yes, like wildly, but they're not just wealthy.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're influential in the sectors they travel through, because a lot of these guys also provide the things that you're not supposed to get.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe your city is powered on that, but like,
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's start with just, I think if we're gonna do road traders, let's just start with kind of how they function and what a road trader is.
[SPEAKER_01]: So at their core, they are part of the environment.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and they're ninety-nine percent human, or at least they claim they're all, it's a weird one.
[SPEAKER_01]: They should all be human.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're wild enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll get in this.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're getting a little bit of how that can change, but they are originally.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first road trader, the dynasty, was in the charters for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you list the people that are part of that charter are all humans, even if you walk on the board and you're like, there was one guy that was human.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I met seven Drew Carrion.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the former Suckivist was weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, we'll leave it in a cool way.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have thoughts about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Channel sharks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they do, what they do is their official charter is the athlete in pairings behalf.
[SPEAKER_01]: Primarily in ways the impureing would be limited.
[SPEAKER_02]: which is wildly weird because they state that they're basically ghost ops.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they have a certificate of ghost hopping.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, like, we will definitely deny you exist.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, you literally printed me off a thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You printed me off a thing and you say, Gilliman signed it.
[SPEAKER_01]: He gets this way and help the emperor sign.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what they're used for is kind of is
[SPEAKER_02]: espionage illegal arms trading claiming new worlds spreading the word of the emperor they do one of the biggest things this is espionage the world traders are supposed and because again and we'll do more episodes in this because of the fact that the imperium is literally
[SPEAKER_02]: laughable.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's supposed to be the worst things in bureaucracy because the imperium accidentally blows planets up sometimes because someone pushed the wrong way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is literally how things happen or you get reinforcements one thousand years after you ask for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are all things that happen to the imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: But what the rogue traders are supposed to do is go do these ghost stop things and then come back with information.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first piece we should jump on on road traders is what allows in the via road trader, which is the warrant of trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was black, not a subtle homage to a letters of a letter of mark, which if anyone knows history, letters of mark were things are things that a king primarily would give to what we're called private, which was independent ships.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which is just people that did shitty stuff that weren't
[SPEAKER_01]: It was pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was, yes, it was, you became a legal pirate for one half of the world.
[SPEAKER_02]: But you were only allowed to be, you, you got to pirate, not our stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they became, so GW, and I'll be, I think you have a good.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is not one of those bad GW writing things.
[SPEAKER_01]: This makes complete sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you think about the, the set up of a, of a, of a forty-k universe, what the appearing would be, of course, they would need something like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: People who worked just on the edge just outside.
[SPEAKER_02]: because you have a large portion of the imperium that just says Xenos must kill them immediately, burn them.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, but but also could we grab some of their stuff?
[SPEAKER_01]: One, a couple piece of warrants of trade that I think are important is one they are who read a tear.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is why when we talk about like our road traders human is why I said originally yes, well, because the first person who got one talk about this some of the people that are road traders have been road traders when you talk about a family business.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about hey, man.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have ten thousand years of being a family of being a road trader.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a real thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is, there are the current road traders, there are road traders, so a warrant of trade is signed by some person of authority within the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: You might have Melcador saying that you're like, or the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Emperor himself has the Emperor's signature on their, on their warrant of trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Bing and charge for a while.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is a key thing of road traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are some or some are new, but a lot of them could be, I mean, what is what is a thousand years in generations?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is this several?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: because of the fact that the Imperium is bureaucracy hell.
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: They still do what they're supposed to do, but they kind of don't because the Imperiums are kind of a trash fire.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you can count, if your rules are written to play on the edge of the Imperium's rules, you can fudge those pretty well.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we have to go with this, the Inquisition didn't exist when Rogue Trader started.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they don't love it.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, they stay.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that one of each other would be a little bit too.
[SPEAKER_02]: The the inquisition wants to put every road trader to the torch.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's no road traders spread the word of the emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: So those ones are allowed true story.
[SPEAKER_02]: There is a couple that had inquisitors on them to be perfectly honest.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but the most part for the most part they're like you guys are heritage.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, being a road trader is amazing within the empire, because not only do you are able to acquire extreme amounts of wealth, but you also, as you've been saying, well, yourocracy goes away.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think we're stressing them enough.
[SPEAKER_02]: Some of these road traders are, like, mightest touch, like,
[SPEAKER_02]: Montamosa kind of they have all of the monies in some of the stories it's just crazy because they have like system wealth and some of these road trade some guys are just guys it's that John and I in a shitty ship with three guys we picked up with the last port and others are I have enough money to buy this system yeah like they're so much a wild difference in these
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what mixed road journey is so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: So much so that the the high lords of terror are known for this where or they will actually grant road trader warns of trade to their enemies because you can't turn it down because whatever aspiration I had that was annoying that the high lord of terror
[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, it looks like you get the honor of getting the hell outta here.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a hell outta here with no rules to go make yourself incredibly wealthy.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how powerful a warrant of trade is.
[SPEAKER_01]: So these things are...
[SPEAKER_01]: And the cool thing about it is that for those few Braymer talk a narrative later, I think from a narrative standpoint, Road Trader's the coolest part of the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because you get to be a pirate.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a space marines murdering you for being.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I have downloaded this game, but I have plenty of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it looked really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just was like, no, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: It makes me sad.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the thing is, is that you can be, let me give you the options for Road Trader.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, check all.
[SPEAKER_02]: You want to be a part?
[SPEAKER_02]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to be an explorer?
[SPEAKER_02]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to be a trader with Zino's races?
[SPEAKER_02]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to get into wild adventure?
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to be the richest person in the galaxy?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're a run trainer.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're a real trader.
[SPEAKER_02]: You literally have endless, again, caval.
[SPEAKER_02]: Make this happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because you can literally do episodes.
[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: If Caval, that's actually a point.
[SPEAKER_01]: If this was the Amazon, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: That was on.
[SPEAKER_01]: If Amazon did it.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you use
[SPEAKER_01]: circle it around a road trade or the best story you possibly gives you the massive.
[SPEAKER_02]: This could be like firefly on steroids.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just there's infinite stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they actually started literally during the great great.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're saying this is like again, this is eleven thousand years of road of official.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not just road traders.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're not talking guys that were out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking officially stamped.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: World of trade.
[SPEAKER_02]: World of trade.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're still out there right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's multiple stories of
[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the original, you don't know who was the first, but just original, like I was my great, great, great, fifty times exponentially, great grandfather was a great, you know, a road trader in the great crusade.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I got this from here.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing is, some of them are, this is how they do business with things that they're not allowed to do business.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think these are the ones, if we talk about wealth, we'd brag, it's not really the guys who have system line wealth.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why is because the emperor, and this isn't weird, they'll get to the second mic.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ditch by this in a second.
[SPEAKER_01]: But effectively, the problem is that the imperial is expanding out from soul.
[SPEAKER_01]: They know there are planets out there that they have to get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, some of the planets are going to be cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's be honest, some road traders are ticks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because their whole thing was, they went, let's set up this great trade route.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I went, hey, there's a super cool planet over here that you should murder.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the Zenos.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't even count.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, didn't you just trade with these guys?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but like, I'm gonna... I got my idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They want me dead so if you could make them gone.
[SPEAKER_01]: But effectively, the original part of this was,
[SPEAKER_01]: the emperor needed scouts.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what road traders do, the thing that's important about this, this is more probably actually, also affects mock the modern world is, if I send my space marines to a system, and that system just blows them the hell up.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to then go and kill that system.
[SPEAKER_01]: If I send Eric and his five buddies the system and they blow Eric up, I can take a look at how badly Eric got blown up and then make my call of, do I give a shit today or not?
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what the rogue traders were.
[SPEAKER_02]: motivates people?
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it loyalty?
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it that the great crusade and how my morale is going?
[SPEAKER_02]: Or is it just, you can make a shit ton of money if you go that way.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they went that way.
[SPEAKER_01]: But my note here really was, you know, basically it marked end of one of three categories.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hothel, friendly, first legion.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the Emperor's options.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to make these uninhabited planets.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, these planets are over here.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first lesions going to go there because they're uninhabited and they want to make sure that they're uninhabited.
[SPEAKER_01]: or at least they will be when they leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I didn't have a joke to myself here.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not something John is confused because the pepper is the most powerful psycho in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why didn't he just know where all the planets were?
[SPEAKER_02]: Look, man, don't ask questions.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just starting out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a cool story, but there was that moment of like,
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: If he has, I write, we write notes for these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're kind of going there like, wait a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't make any sense.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, then he would ruin my story.
[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't be able to take this adventurer if he would be on a known.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what happens is at this era, this is the origin of own traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: We said later on is when the idea of be giving a warrant of trade is a incredible deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first ones were in my mind, just loonies, who are like, these are, these are literally the original prospectors trailblazers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, they get, there is worth the start of war between which the reemergence of war of travel.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got, I mean, the guys are going from FTL drives to going into a galaxy, they have no idea what's out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are literally yellow swagging warp jumps, and then hoping for the best in the system they end up in.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have no idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is just no, they don't know anything about the universe.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they don't know orcs exist.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let alone Eldar.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, let alone Dark Eldar.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, you are and let you could all have a sudden end up in somewhere.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's talk about the fact that even in this thing, these guys get more crazy because when they know,
[SPEAKER_02]: It modern-day road traders know that tear-nids, Necrons, Dark Elder cast exists, and they're like, yeah, I'm still going to go that general direction to see how things go out.
[SPEAKER_01]: What did my favorite parts?
[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't played one of those.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like tear-nids a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a story of tear-nids a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've repconced tear-nids so many damn times.
[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, some of these road traders met tear-nids.
[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't get the telly one about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: The gochiasians were swift.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they did, because as we discussed, the orcs discovered tear in its and made them pets.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the tear in its were somewhere in the galaxy and road traders probably went to, hey, that ship looks weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why is it kind of breathing?
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me get closer to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then things went badly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: But within the rogue traders themselves, they kind of fall into what I have seven ish category.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I wrote this out.
[SPEAKER_02]: And some of them are combos to be honest.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I thought about this last night when I was looking through this.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is when I said I want to disagree with some stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: And here's why.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to say this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also ready for this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Screw you guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Road traders aren't canon.
[SPEAKER_02]: They exist as canon, but they have a bunch of random little stories everywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: There is no road trader codex.
[SPEAKER_01]: There is no road trader anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: There is road traders are mentioned constantly because also there was the first way to play was road trader.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: additional one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe one of you listening to us.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the road traders, you, there's so much conflicting lore and I think it's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's my road traders are awesome because it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the piece of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They almost becomes me.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can make up your own version of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But effectively, the categories they fall into in graduate, these overlap a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got rotators who's focused on trade, rotators who focus on kind of diplomacy, like an unvoiced but diplomacy.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're basically going on the original trader of the trade diplomacy of
[SPEAKER_02]: go find things for the ampere.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then you have the zealots, which came in, which are the more modern ones, which are spreading the word of the ampere.
[SPEAKER_01]: The regular, my favorite ones who were the explorers, the guys who were just like, I just want to be where there's no.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do want to put the thing is, the envoys and explorers sound like they're the same, but they're not.
[SPEAKER_02]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because envoys are specifically just trying to expand the might of the Imperium and explorers are just, I'm going to find some shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Explore it like, hey, what's over here?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Usually chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have what I called pseudo pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not pseudo pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just, they're full of pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: Molishes, which are the pseudo pilots, pirates with a bit more organization.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which is, here's the militia one is a big deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the militia one, I really think is the people that are generationally, they have the stamp.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then they, they're literally warlords with ships.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they just kind of walk around with, I'm allowed to do bad stuff because it says so.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this charter says I can conquer your planet, but we're not we're part of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: Are you?
[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, are there space springs there by?
[SPEAKER_01]: No, cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's done.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's nobody that's tough enough to stop me.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the last one I wrote here, which is actually very not canon, but we all know is true, corrupted.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is actually in the VR sisters game has a corrupt game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we are going, I listed corrupted only because in the world of Warhammer, Forty Kay, there is no version of humanity, where there is not some level of corruption.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's not going to accept that road traders somehow avoid the corruption of chaos when their entire life is this.
[SPEAKER_01]: But let's dive into them kind of individually, it's kind of more of a quick hit.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the first one is the traders, which is, again, road traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm clever.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I just... Well, okay, we'll move all of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
[SPEAKER_01]: they trigger.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it sounds lame, but to me, of all the functions that the rugers serve, this actually might be one of the most important ones.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's such a big deal in this because they're, they don't talk about it as much.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's in a lot of stories now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's in a lot of the Zenos books, actually.
[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
[SPEAKER_02]: The towel book is big on this, where they, there's, I'm sorry, but there's like so many retro traders that just train, they don't heat towel as much as something.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's so many people that trade with town, but there's also a shit ton of people that trade with elder.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's also a lot of imperial worlds that are powered by elder technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's call us back to Spain.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, doesn't the plasma technology doesn't blow up?
[SPEAKER_01]: How?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can actually use it and shoot it and not have to roll a one out of the not roll a one out towards elder.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know who's got energy sources that just don't deplete ever what power and tire planet out of like you know But forty square feet share go to Eldar and you're good
[SPEAKER_02]: Like literally, the road traders keep a lot of worlds alive because they still need their trade with the elder to get whatever the elderly need from the elder.
[SPEAKER_02]: Be it technology, fixing, whatever.
[SPEAKER_02]: Rathbone, whatever they want.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a big deal on that.
[SPEAKER_02]: And these guys make that happen.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are, they're the trade that the road traders do, which just sounds a stupid phrase, but it works.
[SPEAKER_01]: is radical.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also, by the way, there's also, I mean, Brad's talking about the positive side.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's also the dark side where I'm a super rich guy, and I want, and I see a super cool sword.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to, I want to own a super cool elder sword.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't really go down to the freaking pawn shop.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's no Amazon Prime delivery.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also don't want an inquisitor at my house.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what do I do?
[SPEAKER_01]: I go to a room trader and I overpay for said sword.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I get the coolest sword ever.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these are something, or I'm an imperial scientist.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to kind of do some experimentation and an orc body.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is, it gets a little bit dark.
[SPEAKER_02]: Roachators do some also do some weird shit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, because Roachators also trade with cupans and stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they trade with your car.
[SPEAKER_01]: They trade with your car.
[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't find a story of Roachators actually entering Gamora.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I don't know if they're allowed.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they can or they are either entering any of the craft ones or the craft ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have any of those stories, but I do know the workers.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do trade with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do trade with both.
[SPEAKER_01]: I should have how much access they get.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also trade with orcs, which is I'll tell you what, man, you want to abolish our balls, our flying your little Italy ship to meet with free booters.
[SPEAKER_01]: First trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no way.
[SPEAKER_01]: This goes south.
[SPEAKER_02]: But you can actually come out pretty big on that because you gave them teeth and they gave you giant tanks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they gave you a squid off.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is yours now.
[SPEAKER_01]: It seems mean.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I figured out.
[SPEAKER_01]: The next group though are the on voice.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is again at the challenges, the Imperium hates Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they hate on people.
[SPEAKER_02]: On those they have paper, but also the Emperor's a psycho racist.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry guys, but that dude's a bad person.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's super powerful and he's super smart.
[SPEAKER_02]: But he's not good people.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's shitty.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he hated anything that wasn't him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very human.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this becomes the problem is that you have Zenos all throughout the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: How do you negotiate?
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, so you can't, unless you send the guys that have a piece of paper that literally says,
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, man, does this paper still say that I'm allowed to do stuff?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not allowed to do.
[SPEAKER_02]: Why did you write this down?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still like, this just incriminating my journey.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like this is exhibit A in your trial.
[SPEAKER_01]: But if you think about it from the standpoint of the Imperium, if you have to get somewhere, and that's somewhere involves flying anywhere near a cow, Eldar, et cetera, fleet.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's impossible.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's automatic war.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the rogue traders, the ones who can actually negotiate safe pass.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, passage.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's one of the biggest things they do.
[SPEAKER_02]: The deviance with you, they've done it with the orcs several times, and they basically just convinced the grads to go,
[SPEAKER_02]: Tell everybody else to go the other way when we want to go this way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, none of us are good fighters.
[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you negotiate it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually a good fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who cares then?
[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are weak.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so these guys, the on voice, they seem kind of lame.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like again, if I was making a character in a video game, there's a one percentage.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is, I would pick.
[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are definitely NPCs.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the guy that you talk to that has an exclamation point over his head to start a quest and he tells you information.
[SPEAKER_02]: I got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So like you know, the next one though are my least favorite, which are the zealots.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's always suck.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the summer of the road traders, never remember, road traders wealth is basically comes the contract.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're either trading things, getting paid, exploring, getting paid for your information.
[SPEAKER_01]: You get basically paid for something or you're stealing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't forget that some of these guys have literally thousands of your contracts where they're just getting
[SPEAKER_01]: bank from the imperium because they're doing this exactly and so the zealots are the ones who are newer obviously the road trader group and they're being paid by the inquisition and the like to spread the word of the imperium to what are most likely hostile worlds yep and they're also authorized to spread the word of the imperium
[SPEAKER_02]: And if they don't like the word of the imperium, shoot them in the face.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're not the best group here.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're both doing a casting in position.
[SPEAKER_01]: But these are kind of ended up, I'm reading this though.
[SPEAKER_02]: So what of our notes is big fan, everybody should worship the emperor for sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: Big big fan of the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gather one totally isn't this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think my note was like, sometimes people don't want to hear the word the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then those people get shocked.
[SPEAKER_02]: Twice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, double tap.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's definitely the zealot road trains.
[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite group building that was the Explorers.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just coughed out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Make a TV show about them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love this concept.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, you're living in a galaxy of violence.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is not, it's not.
[SPEAKER_02]: Current explorers are the best.
[SPEAKER_02]: Only explorers were also awesome, but not as cool as these guys who literally go, hey, if I go to the wrong place, I instantly get killed.
[SPEAKER_02]: My soul might actually be stolen.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not about the,
[SPEAKER_01]: how extreme this is.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you are on a planet in the Imperium that is run by the Imperium protected by the Imperium, all these things used to probably at a one and three chance getting murdered, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: And these dudes are going, what if I fly my little pitally bullshit ship into the middle of nowhere and hold for the best out what's there?
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it came in, it could be infested with tournaments, orcs, dark yellow, the hard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, race that we haven't added in the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, it's these people are just all chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be these guys are awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're just out there, because what they're doing is doing two jobs.
[SPEAKER_01]: One is they're filling the one, when you if you survive, you fill in the map, basically for the imperial saying, hey, I went over here, and this is what's there.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the other one they get to do, which is why they do it, is they get to plunder.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they might get out there and they might find a world that was a like, I don't know, paradise world, just up until the dark age of technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has now died and they just get to go down and say,
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's dark age of technology stuff, which is just letting you know pretty goddamn valuable.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I thought an STC drive.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to go call AdMack and get all of the money.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of it.
[SPEAKER_02]: And or sometimes you'll get the inquisition to get the bullet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you might get the bolt.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you might get the bolter, but you also might get some of the other part of the inquisition will just give you money to hand that over.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they can throw it in the fire.
[SPEAKER_01]: Never, ever, ever, ever speak about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're my favorite part of road trader.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are, if you're playing, I was playing in VC character.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is what I wouldn't want to be.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're amazing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is one of, this is probably my favorite.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, the, because not the end of the great crusade, while they had made huge swallows of territory,
[SPEAKER_02]: The galaxy was still had a bunch of areas where it just had a picture of a dragon that said, unknown, scary.
[SPEAKER_02]: There was just lots of, I mean, again, the galaxy's so big, the elder were just living there and ignoring a giant empire that was expanding because, yeah, he didn't come near me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very much space.
[SPEAKER_02]: Galaxy's big.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these guys are cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now post-paracy,
[SPEAKER_01]: The road traders also get to go to the systems that who are on the map, and it now come off the map.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is not great because nothing, nothing good happens.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's never, hey, man, we just forgot to send a message.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's never that.
[SPEAKER_01]: If thank God you guys here, the lights went off a short while ago.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the, all right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which, which awful force has ruined this plan is something just if you you're landing on best case scenario.
[SPEAKER_01]: It happened a while ago and they're all gone.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're you're praying that whoo that I'm glad I wasn't here for this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think with I for world white dark.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's the best case?
[SPEAKER_01]: I I actually think if a world went dark your best case is tyrannies because they're no longer there.
[SPEAKER_02]: They do actually move the entire force to lead best case scenario's tyrannies.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you don't want to cast because they went dark and they're just there.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just hanging out waiting for people.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you don't want to late your car because they might have just put like a stuffed animal with a beacon and they're like, touch this.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you're like, I feel like bad things are going to happen as soon as I touch this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're very, very awesome.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're like just getting inside.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know what's going to happen?
[SPEAKER_01]: The next group we kind of jump into is actually all of his calls to explorers as I wrote pirates light because they're pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're totally pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're like... They're all attacked in period.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're also like kind of Jack Sparrow pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got a code.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually suggestions.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all suggestions.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they... This is some of the fun stories because you get guys that are kind of bad guys, but they do good things.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're not looking to put people up, but they're also like, hey man, if you've got really expensive stuff, I'm gonna probably steal it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the pirates, we call them pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: The pirates, because what they're doing is within reason.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're never going to go after imperial cruiser or an important imperial city.
[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're just kind of a ship with a bunch of loot going from one spot to another, and you don't have space variants on board,
[SPEAKER_01]: They might show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of what they do, too, is that they're plundering abandoned speaks, hopes that may or may not be abandoned when they get there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which is, by the way, the one of the most dangerous things ever to do.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So why are there always jeans dealers on Space Hawks?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's yeah, you're right, it actually is a good point.
[SPEAKER_01]: But because they're just in the game after them, but that's a side note.
[SPEAKER_01]: Always jeans dealers.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's always to somebody jeans dealers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, I lived with a note space hoax or dark coal in terrifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these guys go, yeah, that's going to that thing and see what happens.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's probably going to be good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's probably full of, did you?
[SPEAKER_02]: Did everybody get killed by Jane still is every time we've ever been on a space?
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we got stuff sometimes.
[SPEAKER_01]: But some of the pirates are a little bit clever and others because you could go off this pace hook or you go to the place that has heat lights, you know, food and just go rate a very small colony.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a wild leap.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a pretty big group of, but chaotic, good to chaotic evil guys.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because there's some guys that are just like, I'm kind of just living my way in the world.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then there's other guys that are like, I just kind of want to take your things because I don't want you to have things.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of my favorite stories of these types of road traders is they rob each other.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you constantly have like pirates robbing pirates and I just have this idea of the imperium just watched it happen goes whatever like also anybody that's considered an imperial
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a pretty big label though.
[SPEAKER_02]: Imperial, I'm going to do huge air quotes, criminal, because lots of people are considered imperial criminals because somebody didn't like you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Same thing we talked earlier when they give you a charter and you didn't want one.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's lots of planetary and system governors that will just be like,
[SPEAKER_02]: John's my closest rival, he's won it.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like why?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he just broke some laws and they just put it everywhere and they just like, I guess I now on the run.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm on the run and the rugby was showing up because the thing is, if you're wanted and you can convince enough people to impair him of that, that means you, that means if someone were attacked to attack, you wouldn't have the protection of the imperial.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about the imperial.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have a guard ready.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't think it's a wrong way.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one's that because of the Imperial Guard.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's a space marine leasing jumping out of warp and going.
[SPEAKER_02]: They also really don't ask for a long discussion.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like it showed up on my
[SPEAKER_02]: on my display that you were wanting.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you would like to explain to me, and you got shot with a bulletin.
[SPEAKER_01]: So these road traders actually play in this world a lot where they're going, oh, such and such system is not is a non-compliance.
[SPEAKER_01]: Therefore, I can go there and take whatever I want.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't count anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can kill the imperial governor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Take all of his money and then hand the system over the imperial.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I get all of the money and pay by the imperial for doing the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, kind of a win.
[SPEAKER_01]: So these guys are kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, they're kind of super violent.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: The next group though is the ones who take the piracy and decide to say, yeah, go bigger, go home.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, these guys are the militias.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know the militias were like, some of these militias aren't just militias.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they are like system crushing armies.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're not talking militia like, you know, eight guys who get together in the weekend.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking like what actually fought the British.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like these are like a lot of guys with warships.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they a lot of times are people with real skills like going down and messing shit up.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're foolish.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like these guys, these are
[SPEAKER_01]: bits of resources of road traders, they're not, again, they're not imperial forces.
[SPEAKER_01]: We thought forces were not, they don't care with the imperial navy or any of those things, but they can control a system.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but if you're on an agro world, the high world, they will wreck your resistance.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like pretty quick.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And these guys are, for me, they are the outlier, because everything else is
[SPEAKER_02]: a rogue trader, your corporation, you're a tiny hotdog stand, you're at explore.
[SPEAKER_02]: These are the offshoots, like these are the outliers, because to me, these guys exist, but that's not rogue trader.
[SPEAKER_02]: These are
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, these are road traders who've leveled up enough for the point.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to log in to any more of their kind of stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've definitely got the imperial governor.
[SPEAKER_02]: They definitely got an expanded class.
[SPEAKER_02]: They got, they went.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're, it's, like I said, these guys aren't, these guys are interesting to me to be honest with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just they exist for covering them.
[SPEAKER_01]: The last group though is hilarious to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, probably should be, are they corrupted?
[SPEAKER_02]: because of this is wild up because there can be anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: The argument can be made that the origin of the, why can I remember the typhus disease, the zombie plague, but it's something it has a real name.
[SPEAKER_02]: But roll the dirt.
[SPEAKER_02]: And now it's, but the one of the things, what I actually read a story about this, I was saying, home bro.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, so we put on YouTube, but it was originally a road trader that started the the plane because he went down and gave gifts and then kept giving
[SPEAKER_02]: All of his goods were corrupting.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're corrupting spread the plague through you.
[SPEAKER_02]: But they've actually, they've actually canon stories of corrupted growth.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a real thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is canon.
[SPEAKER_02]: This might be another fan thing, but they did a Zeanch one where they had a Zeanch Road trader and he was basically spreading totems all over the place.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he can access.
[SPEAKER_02]: He had access different parts, and this is where, and the thing is, this is one of my favorites.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the insidiousness of cast.
[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't you show up, and it's a nine foot tall guy with puss flowing out of it, or a zirker cutting everybody's heads off.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is just a guy like he looks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is, but he looks the same as everybody else.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's that.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is the actual, that's when you get, I think it actually gets exciting.
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't, I mean, like it's because like, you're like, oh, well, that guy's clearly the enemy.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a nine foot tall guy with an axe.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, no, this is build.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they'll probably, this is like Stephen King type writing Twilight Zone writing this is what it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's how does corruption and, in fact, the uncorrupted.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is how and road traders are kind of in fond of category because a guy comes to town with some goods.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he has corrupted regular shit.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the best part.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We could not have riled from a wheel of time.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what this is.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is this a great way to kind of spread through talking to us, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great way to spread within.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: The corrupted rogue traders are actually the legit.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's scary.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's super legit.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I mean, I mean, from every one of them, too, because you have guys that follow all of the gods and are just very low key.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's that it's that it's the everyday guy that's ruining your stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where we talk about the corruptions and you could actually make the argument.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably where much of the corruption comes from in the Imperium where
[SPEAKER_01]: you bring a totem that has power and you just leave it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, someone will pick it up.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: They also they can they can ruin supply lines not by killing the supply lines by undercutting the supply line and then when at the time comes, they just don't supply it anymore.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like when it's time for invasion, they just like, well, I just don't give you the stuff that you need.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you no longer have, I'll just say, coal as far as they have, but you don't have whatever runs your factory.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's what's interesting about these guys is that when we talk about corrupted, you think about like corrupting and like other, you know, like, by the way, post-filled because they're from Neurgoler, they're under the influence of corn.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're just running through town slaughtering people.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, these guys actually are more
[SPEAKER_01]: espionage level for chaos, so they just spread the chaos and create the stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, especially the corn, corn, corn gets weird because like these, if the corn wouldn't like them, the corn loves them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because these are the guys that will like set up on the Hatfield McCoyes, they will get them going.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, hey, you can go with that guy, do that to you.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's ridiculous.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I would never let that slide happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, you know what I heard is.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or so, and so with other plans did this about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's game time.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that kind of breaks us through the types of road traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: We should definitely spend some time on what road traders actually are.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much any of you have interacted with Rogue Trader in the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's always been kind of the thing on the level you play the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: But as with earlier, they're primarily human, because the first, the main trader, they're supposed to be human.
[SPEAKER_01]: He might be a bit mutant.
[SPEAKER_01]: You do have a few stories of that because, again, the ones who've been, well, they're on the, the brink of galaxies.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're also running the, hey, have you checked the reactor lately?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's probably shale.
[SPEAKER_01]: And ten thousand years of your genetics being next to the reactor.
[SPEAKER_01]: not great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's possible you might be.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've played Fallout.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, the word of trade gives them a bit more leeway here as far as who the crew can be.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where road traders from a narrative standpoint, you freaking awesome.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there's supposed to be human.
[SPEAKER_02]: However,
[SPEAKER_02]: If you've been operating, I don't know for the last eleven thousand years possibly, on the fringes of space and you keep having to replace your crew, do you might have several?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know what I'm just gonna shit talk about now because I can't.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can take to the warrant of trade allows you to go to any imperial city and grab imperial guardsmen.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they can't say no.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like the inquisition on that.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just go, you have to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are stories of road traders who have org free booters on their own.
[SPEAKER_01]: What would you rather have?
[SPEAKER_01]: Gardsman, more orc free beer.
[SPEAKER_01]: That depends whether you're afraid of what wants to fight me everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a orc Drew car in the same problem, L.D.R.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jocaro.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like there are, can I get some Jocaro weaponsmiths?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the point.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys get amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have people in their crew where you're like, look, I just need the best fighter that exists.
[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe I grab an oven.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I grab one of the guys that fights in the dark city and they arena.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to grab I'm going to grab a witch.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to grab a member of the whisk called cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's she going to do?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you don't like a lot of murder.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just amazing options random elder Ranger because hey, what I just knew what if we encounter bad things?
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to kill it from further.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've never seen your life.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, he's got some pretty good information on scouting because he's been doing it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, a thousand years.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what it's wrote for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're kind of moving.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to move a bit of this into more why we love rogue traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is one of the things we love.
[SPEAKER_01]: Rogue traders get to basically have crews that are the best of the galaxy on which in fact, they're about the indeed people.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the indeed one.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is a thousand percent.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have literally got together a motley crew of characters that all are do something great.
[SPEAKER_01]: And let's hear that weird person who makes a crew and D&D that's all fighters.
[SPEAKER_01]: Galilee, we can know this like you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just please stop food.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, it's like, that's the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, hey, I need a, so my idea, he'll cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a priest.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want some of it cast fireballs.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the best part is, is if you don't meet a hardcore person, if you don't meet a hardcore person of the Incosition, everybody turns a blind eye to this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't, you're, by the way, you're not allowed to do this.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're just, nobody does anything about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, it's one of those, like, you're not not allowed.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're definitely not allowed to go anywhere very impureium with that crew.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: But also, no one says a lot of the same thing about it either.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it is, these, that's where, well, diving a bit further, some like the way these guys have manifested the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: But this is what makes road trader super cool because they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are, it's the end.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is, you have an adventure party and you're going on an adventure.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they could have really anyone on their crew.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also will occasionally have like former assassins, former inquisitors, former sisters.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, those are super not.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a lot, but they do have them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because you have to, if you're looking to get, you're looking to get out of the mob, which is kind of what that is because those are lifelong positions.
[SPEAKER_02]: You just, until you die doing what you're doing, you don't get to stop being an ever-sore assassin because you got bored.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like these are people that found out like, man, I was on my last mission.
[SPEAKER_02]: I noticed that everything doesn't suck every day.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, maybe I should do that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, no, they're not super cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have a retirement plan.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you have to go to a place where where can I go where they just won't instify me?
[SPEAKER_02]: This is it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Enjoy.
[SPEAKER_02]: You get a lot of literally wanted, highly wants.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I gave the fire, if I think.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like, you're, they're looking for her all the time.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, in the road traders like, I got like nine people on board that are just like, like,
[SPEAKER_01]: All the humans want this one, all the elder one, but the first thing cabin B. Yeah, you know, it's like, and like, what else you got?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have somebody that every race wants one of.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're gold next problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's it's awesome in the fact that you have pretty much unending stories.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of my favorite on road traders.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's actually another.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not even going to put these out because we'll get canned by GW for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's another fan, like a full series of three different authors, and they put it together, where they do a road trader thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: They was series of stories.
[SPEAKER_02]: Of course.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give it to you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to give this to you because I'm going to
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we don't get banned.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to get you wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are this and this is what makes for you guys can't feel why this episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is why road traders are so cool because it is it's D&D adventure.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can build a party and you go out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that probably should just drive us right into the next topic.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have the life of a road trader.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what is it their world is like?
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's it's everywhere.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's the problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would I read this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I literally went what is the life of road trader I go?
[SPEAKER_02]: roll the dice.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because it can be it is again, D and D because it could be anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because some of the road traders, again, are mightest.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're well, because live actually like they're a boring life.
[SPEAKER_01]: They live in a giant palace surrounded by wealth and they have all their subordinates doing a bunch of work with them, like just and they continue to bring in visit and others that are literally exploring the galaxy in a ship that's held together by duct tape.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just being just running away as like jeans to those are cheesy.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you, you've got another that are almost the same, which can be any of those categories that we give, give men to, but they've got an outcast from a craft world.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got a sass and they've got a jacari.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got a towel on their mission.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is what's, again, this is more, sorry, because me diving in a narrative, which I love.
[SPEAKER_01]: These the stories you can make around room.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's words, yeah, I've got this outcast of a craft girl.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's trying to get back to the craft for by proving that the reason he was cast out was wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're on a mission to do this, this and this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And while we're doing the mission, we're going to come up.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to find a bunch of wealth.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're really cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is what this is.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are because they're living this little adventure inside of a universe of adventure.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, the downside is
[SPEAKER_01]: They tend to die a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if you're not the main character in the story, you probably as a locator gets smoked pretty quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: Road traders are the by definition expendable from the front by literally by what they got.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're your little plaque that you got was pretty much a go get killed, but hopefully be useful for us if you get into trouble.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't call them.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're not coming.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now,
[SPEAKER_01]: One cool thing about them is, and we touched this a little bit at one time in hard, the road traders are critical for the imperial.
[SPEAKER_02]: And depending, that's why I gave my side.
[SPEAKER_02]: depending on who you ask, either can get infinite resources, or you could get shot by the imperial.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is true.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really, you are, this is another deity thing, because you're living and dying by the twenty rolls at this point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You need to make a check real quick.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're either going to get a full legion of space Marines to help you out.
[SPEAKER_02]: or there's going to be an assassin right behind you that's going to shoot you're the back of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, road traders and there are stories of road traders who do get a little big for their bridges and get introduced to a company of space marines pretty quickly are a lot bigger in their bridges.
[SPEAKER_02]: But you can if you are lucky and loyal quotes of course.
[SPEAKER_02]: You can get effectively infinite resources from the Imperium because you have your little piece of paper.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got your plaque on your ship that says, I am an envoy of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to help me because I am doing Imperium business.
[SPEAKER_02]: And by doing Imperium business, it means that the Imperium has to help me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you basically keep pointing at that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And hope it works.
[SPEAKER_01]: And really hope that they said that there are angels.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, we're so much trouble or death watch not the acquisition or great nights.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the things that that they're used for by the incurring though is yeah, you want to scout an area.
[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, it's easier to send a road trader than to send an entire Armada.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, why is that?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's so much faster.
[SPEAKER_01]: You need special tech, you know, plasma.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mostly, I mean, we know we know this is ad-mec, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: We say, oh, the road traders are used to acquire special technology from aliens.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is one hundred percent the ad-mec.
[SPEAKER_01]: Going like, hey, we want this thing in the environment.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love you.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's people that want it.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like,
[SPEAKER_02]: So we're still talking at Mac.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the people who want this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to make sure you can pretend what it's.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: My buyer is secret.
[SPEAKER_01]: You like suits and it's totally admit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's at Mac.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, but that's what they would go on the trade because the ad Mac would it would.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we'll use towel plasma.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no question the ad Mac saw a story about towel plasma.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't explode.
[SPEAKER_01]: No seems better.
[SPEAKER_01]: It seems better.
[SPEAKER_01]: Can I get some of it?
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're the enemy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I totally, but can I get some of it?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know what I'm fucking?
[SPEAKER_02]: There's about half of us that are still in chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, just you really don't want to visit Mars, do you want to visit Mars?
[SPEAKER_02]: Mars gets real weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a Necron on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's our CTAN on it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're pretty inclusive.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, let's not get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Of all the parts of the impairment, we don't open the wrong door.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mars might be the worst one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you can open a door and go, oh, come on man.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's just guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, this is literally written down as a no.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, just put a lock on the door already.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was so weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: But as we touched him before, one of the biggest ones is actually keeping tabs on people.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're sponis because they have to because the problem of the imperial spies, we think of imperial spies.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got assassins.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got, you've got him crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not spies.
[SPEAKER_01]: These are extreme levels, but what if it's just a simple thing of like, hey, someone says, I'm a little funny when I keep an eye on him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or probably what I think we'll just use more for is I am word, word of terror, those are the same thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whatever it is, and I've got a rival, and I just want to keep tabs on him, but I don't want anyone known keeping tabs on him.
[SPEAKER_01]: You hire the road tricks.
[SPEAKER_01]: You hire a road road road road road.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the trade, you just give you information.
[SPEAKER_01]: Either you hire a road trip.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on here?
[SPEAKER_01]: exactly, and they're allowed to, and this way they can work outside of official channels, because in truth, there's like, if you're, we're gonna use this, if you're corrupt, but not like chaos corrupt, if you're not a great person, and you've got to arrive, you can't use the ink, because the second you mentioned, like, hey, I think that we're with chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: You just don't want ink with it, and poke it around because they might.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because they also might kill you, because they're like, you knew about corruption, so you have to be cleansed all so you're like, you guys,
[SPEAKER_02]: are real weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what I'm up to is really kind of not above board.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't use imperial agents.
[SPEAKER_01]: So road traders are what come in.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is one of the cool things are road traders that they're used for that.
[SPEAKER_01]: But my favorite story in all of the road traders that is actually canon.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gilliman uses road traitors like a lot actually the the absolute the primarque of bureaucracy and rules recognizes the need for the off the the off-books.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let me to be to be far.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jim and might be the biggest.
[SPEAKER_02]: Prevered purchaser.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, over a train.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what that's right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm cool about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: The government sits there, gentlemen loves Roger.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now he views him largely as privateers to be honest for the Ethereum, but he loves road trails.
[SPEAKER_02]: And their information and he's all about the king of bureaucracy is all about
[SPEAKER_02]: information.
[SPEAKER_02]: And these guys provide, and for me, beyond, you also go, you know, doesn't like the inquisition, Bobby J. Not at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it works really well.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a cool thing we talked about.
[SPEAKER_01]: These says, when we say they sit on the edge of the Imperium, the Imperium, like a government, they do and they don't because the most powerful and influential members of the government openly use them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I've run triggers, they're not this shadow organization by it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of it I want to dive into was more, I think, for people listening to this cast, I will rotate this, this is cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: How do I play it?
[SPEAKER_01]: How do I enjoy it?
[SPEAKER_02]: And unfortunately, I mean, the tournaments are called Rotrainers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they haven't been a key part of the game ever.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe they've ever had.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've always been outside of the game.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why the game was originally called Rotrainers.
[SPEAKER_02]: because they're the things that are around and they're weaved into the game, but they aren't the game itself.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm going to note here, which is like, you know, if you weird to have a thousand point army of road traders, which I'm now, as I'm saying, that realizing that someone out there is saying either, hey, yeah, I've run that in a van.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm totally running that in a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, to both of you, good job.
[SPEAKER_01]: I fully support.
[SPEAKER_01]: The rules are usually pretty fluffy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not great.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just rogue traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they've had some cool elements.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was part of it in Hero Legends.
[SPEAKER_01]: One cool game that existed for those who played Blackstone Fortress, which was during the eighth edition.
[SPEAKER_01]: Really fun game.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was actually almost an RPG style game where you had a group of rogue traders going into a Blackstone Fortress to kind of delude it.
[SPEAKER_02]: But then we hear rules because it's dependent on what you chose is they had a, that's where you chose your cards and you got to, you had to choose, we didn't even choose.
[SPEAKER_02]: You actually got shuffled.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a objective.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a good game.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was a really fun game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, they did allow the rules in the eighth edition and there was this town sniper that all of us who played.
[SPEAKER_02]: He did.
[SPEAKER_02]: Kill team works like that though.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have it in kill team.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're awesome in kill team.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're looking to play, you want to kind of have a road trader.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kill team, they're they're perfect for it because they're not meant to be a thousand point on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're meant to be a small one.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's supposed to be a D&D party.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're really, really great in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a loose CDN.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's what they call the star striters.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're cool in kill team, but I will say, and you if you go to the website and look these things look up this this model line.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just one box.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you want a model, they look cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's really nice.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you really more into painting and building, the elucidian elucidian star striters are top.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's for all our modelers out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do want to say this though.
[SPEAKER_02]: the limited edition and the one-off boxes and games and stuff like that, usually have really cool one or two off models that you can only get in those things, like really cool things.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's always amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Road traders also allow you to kind of build, if you want to have kind of a random collection of things that are just a pretty model, but you won't have a purpose.
[SPEAKER_01]: You make road traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to build a joke arrow from scratch, there is a model for it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to find.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're trying to build one, you could.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I have a great one.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I've got this orangutan holding a rocket launcher.
[SPEAKER_01]: What do I do?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's fantastic.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: But then you could add them to a succubus that you're like.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you just have a few models here and there that you want to build and put together and just have it and give them some collision, you make a road trader.
[SPEAKER_01]: And their cool is all hell.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is a, they're, I love it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, like, as you can obviously tell, I love road trader.
[SPEAKER_01]: And for those people who want to play the game more of a narrative standpoint, narrative, this is what, man, you can have a lot of fun with this.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want it, basically merge, forty K with D&D, road traders of how you do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's amazing because it's all the same, all the best parts of both of us.
[SPEAKER_02]: They actually had a Forty-K is a role playing thing and it played basically road trainer.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you're going to have to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're playing Forty-K and you want to have an RPG, you're stuck in a good way.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to go to a road trainer.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to make an RPG of like the white scars.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're listening to me shirt up when we killed all of the locals.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, there was a rival gang boss.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, what happened?
[SPEAKER_02]: We just sent one guy, and he gave everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also because it's like the problem of space reasons.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not independent bodies.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's not a lot of, it's all those things.
[SPEAKER_01]: But road traders are cool as hell because you get to have that awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, I've got this one character who's human and there's all sue and arguing with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's a, it would not be him, I guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one's going to be ever be friends with him, I guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: but not even a chance.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not even like just no way you're too weird, get out.
[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe there is a, I don't know, a cab light warrior pushing it, but possible, you know, any member of the L-dark, you know, you need to have a counter at, in theory, you could be hanging out with, but it's a road traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's so cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've had a lot of people, they've had actually a lot of elves that have been part of road traders in a lot of stories because there's a lot of people because elves, L-dark,
[SPEAKER_02]: as a race that exists our people that were dissatisfied, which is a sweet, small word for what they were.
[SPEAKER_02]: But with what was going on in elder civilization, when their society was, and there's still, there's a lot of people, because you get to remember the craft world themselves, I know I'm going a little tangent here, but the craft world themselves are wildly extreme views on life and how to live life.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of people that are like, yeah, I wasn't super down with the weird people, but you guys are just crazy people.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, where did it go?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm wandering the galaxy by myself as an elder and eventually I meet this traveling spaceship.
[SPEAKER_01]: and you join in.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's all in guardians of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and it's a card is galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a literally a carnival row.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a in the coolest hell.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so this is where if you're looking for a way to play forty k on what I would call a small scale narrative road traders way to do it best choice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're great.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're because they're they're they're human size stories.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Space Marines have space Marines and a lot of the Zenas have galaxy size stories.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's crusade?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, hey, man, what about like regular people problems that road traders have?
[SPEAKER_01]: They get the game blackstone fortress was great because as well as I found this derelict, it's not spacecraft, it's a game space hall, it's pretty big.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to find my way through it to basically loot it for some stuff to take back and make somebody else with the game was.
[SPEAKER_01]: The game, but that was a pre-written narrative.
[SPEAKER_01]: You and your friends can make your own.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's one of the, I mean, it's coming from two D&D RPG guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just like, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You might be like, please drag a lens up, play to my life.
[SPEAKER_02]: But it's just, it's, in the thing is, is that, you know, and this is what I'm ending with.
[SPEAKER_02]: In the game, play the game harder than hell you want to play the game.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm talking about on the table too.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're playing competitive Forty K, don't let anybody tell you what you're allowed to bring.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't let anybody tell you what's cool and what's not cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Gargantuan's quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll find out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was more sailing.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are rules of what you can't bring.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I'm saying, but it's in as far as like the models that you bring and everything else.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't let be fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just that's it.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's in the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're we're playing with toys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Enjoy yourself.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the biggest thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what this is.
[SPEAKER_01]: So from there, we'll break, we'll call it an episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you guys enjoy our coverage of our own triggers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to do some more of these.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're just kind of fun for Brad and I to do, because it lets us explore the more a bit more and
