I'm are exclusively here on the fourth figure Discamp patre On hind the Web. Today We're going to be reviewing an episode that I don't think I've watched since I usually bought the DVDs. It's the Deep South. I am Danna and I'm a poor, demented honky guy. Wait, sir, feeling pretty good actually in tea Why? Kind of like this episode of Futurama for multiple reasons, but one of them is a guest appearance by one of my favorite actors. Well, let's just jump right into it, Parker Posey playing voicing the character of Umbriel, the mermaid who hooks Fry by the heart and other organs. You might say she's a fantastic voice artist because she also voiced Becky in It's a Mad, Bad, Mad Bad Marge, whatever that episode was, whereas the one that sort of moves into Marge gets jealous of her when she wants moves into the Simpsons house because she was going to marry Otto and then he leaves her at the altar. She's just so good at making characters who you've never met before, but so likable and charming, Like you fall in love with Becky and I fell in love with Umbrella Umbriel, like this something a better voice. It's just such a lovely I don't know what's the word to describe her. It's so addictive, her voice. She's just an absolute sweetheart, which is precisely when I wrote here in my nose even before. I mean, I went into this episode not blind but just you know, I went in like, let's just enjoy the story and we'll find out a little bit more about it afterwards. And you know, when I saw the closing credits, like Parker Posey, oh my gosh, she's fantastic. But even before then, I was like, oh, I'm really just a sweetheart, just a just a you know, big on bowl of raspberry rumble. You might say, it's just delightful, delightful, And but I've enjoyed Parker Posey in movies, well, god, since the early nineties. I mean, I think starting with the great high School classic Days and Confuse, where she plays like this terrifying high school mean girl who nonetheless you're just, oh my god, be my girlfriend, you know. I mean, I don't get say the millennial slash gen said, you know, thing on social media about oh so and so I could run me over with a car. Yeah, it's like, but then I look at Parker Posey and Days Confused Ago, Yeah, I get it. I get it, And she is just one of those terrific actors who never really became or has not yet become like a huge star, but has that person sort of like recognition, like, oh, always happy to see Parker Posey no matter what she shows up in, and you know, usually just steals the movie from under the nose of the stars as well. So yeah, very happy that she was in the Deep South. She just was the cherry on top of a pretty nice episode, pretty pretty tasty ice cream some day of an episode. I thought, But she's such a good job with the umbre Old character that it's it's almost like a hill turn from fright the end when he leaves her, it's like she did nothing wrong, Like she she basically gave herself to him, and he was like, no thanks, and I'm like, Dick, She's like, I get, I understand why, I understand, But the thing is, I just still felt so terrible for her. That's wholly understandable. Yeah, he could have handled that a little more delicately, because yeah, sometimes everything falls into place. All the stars are in alignment except one particular one that's you know, kind of the biggest, brightest star. So it's important to have that compatibility, so to speak. But you're right. Yeah, I mean looking at Fries running well, I actually no that Sidberg doing that making that noise, but yeah, running off in that particular fashion or swimming off in that particular fashion, was like, my man, my dude, You've made some bonehead moves in the past, but this ranks up there with the with the bone headed, the most bone headed of them all, because you're as he's sitting in bed with it with Umbrell, there's that shot where she's like looking up at him and it's just like all these clevage and I'm like, god damn, But you're right this episode that's what mermaids are formed. I mean, mermaids are essentially there to lure sailors down into the briny depths. You know, I've got to do that by any means necessary. So they're usually sexy. But you're right, it's just a fun episode. It's one of those the crew go to episodes, right, I know, they kind of various planets, but they put a spin on at this time where they didn't go into space. They went to the bottom of the ocean. There's just something about as humans, we have this fascination with what's below the water. But the bottom of the ocean, what's down there, and the legend of Atlantis and things like that and the Mermaids, that kind of stuff like, because we've been to the bottom of the ocean, but there it feels like there's so many areas that have gone unexplored. Right, This was this was a fun way to delve into that. Yeah, absolutely, I have heard Now this was probably an exaggeration, a bit of hyperbole, but it sounded good when when I that we probably know more about space than we do about the oceans. Yeah, we've sort of been looking up at the stars far more than we have been exploring, you know, the depths and the breadths of the oceans on Earth. And I don't know, when you see some undersea footage or you're like, holy molly, look at those sea creatures or what's going on down the very bottom down there? Thank you Jim Cameron for all that footage. We are so bland and boring as a species. When you see some of the ship that's down there, isn't it. Oh yeah, absolutely, it's like, oh my god, the world's got everything in it. And then some yeah so yeah, ondred percent right, I mean, the ocean is just an incredible rich field of exploration. Yeah, so it was fun that the that the crew got to explore. Yeah, and it was just a fun set up as well. We just recorded our review of We're on the Road the Doughware fouring a discount and the setup was just such a boring it just felt like it went on forever. It just it was lots of filler with this one, like that they go in the fishing trip. I know, there's something about fishing like it's just it's kind of like when you know, you go camping. It's it's so it's a different experience of the real world. It's so separated from what from reality when you go fishing. And that's why I liked about It's just like the crew just out in a fishing trip, you know, just with each other having a good time. It's got its own set of rules and rigg elations. And I don't mean prescribed by humanity or some authority or whatever. It's just like you you have to adjust to the to the rhythms and pace and wherewith all of fishing you can't bend it to your will. It's like just you know, throw you throw your lure in the ocean and see what happens, or throw your lure in some water and see what happens. You can't make it happen. It's just got to like, Okay, well, I've got to surrender to the rhythms of the planet or the rhythms of the water, so to speak. Yeah, which is I don't fish. I don't. I think I may have done it once or twice and actually not fucked it up. But at the same time, I was like, there's a big deal of satisfaction that comes with that perfect cast when you sort of when your nail it as it goes, when you're like, fucking did it? I did it. I didn't quite I didn't quite get it perfect. I mean there are times when you know, it's like when you you do a perfect golf drive, when you just knock it off the team, you know, oh I hit that just and you can just yeah, that's a great feeling. I never had that with a with a fishing rod. But at the same time, I did not take my eye or anyone else's eye out with a hook. Yeah, so I'm pretty happy or eating I'm fuck up their intestines. That true. A lot of things going up fries. But in this episode, a lot of side of me going on. In this episode, I am taking back to going out on my dad's fishing boat when I was a kid. One of the things that I disliked about fishing was it took me a while to sort of learned how to cast. But there was always that fear of embarrassing myself in front of my dad, because my dad's just like my dad's hunter fisherman, you know, fucking outback jack, right, so he'd just do everything. Like I always just felt like a failure when I couldn't cast the rod, and I was just always this pressure of I've got to do it right. I'm gonna do it right. So when I eventually would do it right, I just felt so satisfied and I'm like, yep, dad saw me cast a rod. Good, I'm a man. But like there was no I'd only get it right maybe three times out of five. Like the other two times it's just like just tangled around the edge and Dad's like, just leave it, I'll sucking untangle it. I'm like, oh, I'm sorry, I've ruined the day. No. No, look, you're speaking about an experience that I imagine a lot of a lot of kids had, particularly a lot of a lot of male children have had. As listeners of the shows will know, I mean my my late old man, the late grad Bobby Davis was a footballer of some renown, one might say some some new Yeah, guy Davis was not. But you know, on the occasions when we'd go out and have a bit of a kick to kick, it was always in the back of my mind and sometimes in the front it's like, be nice to actually really roost this or just show really really perfect form with this drop punt, or even better a style that has now gone out of style, the drop kick. Now it's just known as now it's just an insult for someone you're gonna have a fucking drop kick. But by the way, I don't know if it's going to make it on the show. The Lovely Luise was just at my house dropping off some food. I was like, I'm just I'm just gonna distracted by something out of the window. It was a Lovely Luise because the reception, the reception is pretty ship at the moment, so I'm like, has he frozen or is he just looking at something out of the window. You bet, I'm looking at Suddenly I'm looking the most gorgeous woman in the world. Bring me. I think Nicholas supposed to be working. What's she doing here? What's she doing? But yeah, the drop kick. Yeah, now it's become slang for a person who's kind of a drop kick. But if you can do it right, oh, it's just a it's a beautiful thing to do. And I actually pulled one off once to the old man and then I was like, it's like, son, you're no drop kick. No, that's but I just mean felt this immense sense of pride because he looked at me like you might actually be relayed to me after all. You went like, how was how was was Margaret Mary when she had you in forties? Thirty nine? Thirty nine? She was close to it? Yeah, and you've always said that you were just like a New Year's every special way cher a happy surprise. We also had Donovan guest appearing on this one, not just Parker Posey. You know what was he on the sixties seventies? Donovan? I think, yeah, I think sixties, sixties and seventies. Yeah, there's always that that bit of bleed over, isn't there? But yeah, Donovan doing a I guess a bit of a riff on his famous hippie anthem Atlantis, which fit the episode very well. It did it did? I mean, I'm partial to Donovan. I mean, he's got a rappers, one of those sort of you know, very hey man life is great kind of seventies guys, but a lot of his music has been repurposed as kind of creepy. Didn't Scuse gives that song for a fight sequence in the movie. Yeah, I'm trying to remember which one someone's getting beaten up. I'm pretty sure Atlantis was playing with somebody's getting beatn up in a scores Agy film. It's it's in Good Fellas. Yeah, I think de Niro and ray Leotto and Joe Pesci especially are kicking the shit out of billy bats. That's right, tough break for billy bats, but also gets killed in front of he probably gets killed, and then that's brutal that it is, Yeah, because then it's a pretty nasty movie. I mean, so it's good Fellas, but yeah, I think Casino's even more kind of bit edgy. Yeah, But of course there's also the opening scene of David Fincher's Zodiac where he has gone. In the song hurdy Gurdy Man is used while the Zodiac killer is out of doing his thing. And that's like for a guy who's you know, sensitive singer songwriter guy, It's like a lot of these songs are creepy as hell. Yeah, definitely. Now a couple of facts about this episode before we get into our favorite moments and whatnot. Billy west Let's the voice of many characters in Future Rama. He turned forty eight years old on the day that this episode premiered on US television. Wow. Yeah, And now we get a bit of censorship information here. So a line of dialogue was edited out for an airing on Cartoon Network's Adults Swim when Professor Farnsworth exclaimed sweet Zombie Jesus. They left in him saying Jesus as in the visual of it, but it was muted out when he said the word Jesus, although yeah, the animation for the dial was left intact. In contrast, airing on TBS is Too Funny to Sleep Marathon, they would put the entire version in now where the episode was shown on Sky One in the UK, umbreel's line of I want you to make a merm woman out of Mermi before she has sex before I was muted out due to it being shown before the watershed hour, when more explicit sexual lines are allowed to be shown on UK television and also on Sky One. They also cut the scene of Bender, excepting the suitcase from Machety Guy on the jet ski Ah. Even though you know, you never really get to get an idea of what's in that. No, I prefer that. Yeah, it is same here what makes pulp fiction so good? Exactly right? No one knows what's in there to know, and he never did. He never did say it, though, did he Tarantino? He's never never did, because there never was anything. It's just he left it to your imagination. You don't know. I guarantee Tarantino never did he tell the actors what was in it. To pretenders, it's just like the coolest thing you've ever seen, Like, what how did he direct that? You know? Something I think I heard was it's Marcellus Wallace's soul. That's what they said. Okay, so then that's what that That's what the actors were told to think. They'll look. I think that's what the actors were told. It's okay, Oh is that what I think it is. Oh, everybody's suitably all struck, and you know everyone's desperate to get it. They'll get it back. Who is my favorite rolebot? It's me, No line out's fucking this mirror. It's all your favorite moments from the Deep South, mister Davis. I mentioned this a little bit earlier, so I apologize for jumping the gun, But every time Zoidberg to the I don't know, it's got a real kick out of that. For some reason, I only happened twice in the episode, but every time, I've got a big grin on my face. The whole Donovan thing I thought was grace and the fact that I actually gave Donovan a shout out within the episode itself. I mean, you didn't have to wait till the closing credits to go, hey, that's noted sing a songwriter Donovan and his unique brand of laid back folk rock. Yeah, I got a kick out of that. And of course, just any time that Parker Posey opened her mouth as as umbreel or umbriel as we as we like to say. By the way, you are throughout a little a few fun facts earlier, It's time for me to lobby one back to you. Do you know why Umbreel was called Umbrel? I don't know why, because Umbrel is one of the moons of Neptune, I believe, and so is Ariel, who is the name which is the name of the Little Mermaid the Riders the Future. I'm giving a little shout out to both a Disney cartoon and some astronomy. Yes, I mean they are geniuses, the guys behind Future. I'm so pretty clever clocks, They are pretty clever. I loved Bender trying to drink the alcohol. Are the laws of science? Be a harsh mistress? And when I love he had an eyepatch on as well that he has went full pirate when he went into that pirate ship. Yes, but I also loved when the colonel greets them and he just goes from from from from. Is there anything more intimidating than that music. Look, if you're out in there, if you're out in the swamp and you hear that music, I'm in strife here now, nasty ship's going to happen in the woods. Yeah, very very nasty shit. And also this moment may be the most relatable moment in the history of the show. From Professor Farnsworth, I'm bored, Let's go. I would love to be able to have the balls and the guts to be able to say I'm bored at this party. I'm out of here. It is one of the better things about getting old. Yeah, everyone's is like, yeah, you just lose your give a fucking impulses all on it. It's just like, no, I don't have enough time left on the planet for this. I mean, I'm just going to go. I don't think I'll find you people that interesting. I don't think this occasion is all that much fun. I'd rather gonna do what I want to do exactly right any more brain Busters? Okay, Blockbuster Brainbuster. Let's skim through this fromister Davis original at April sixteenth, two thousand. So how are you of the year two thousand? Can you remember many films that came out in early ish two thousand? April two thousand, we've still got Real Rules of Engagement. That's still number one. So that's still the number one of the US box office when this episode aired, but we got two and three to try and keep. They're pretty random films. I want to say one of them. I've definitely knew one of them. The other one I remember seeing the Post of four. I never actually saw the film. Well, here's the thing, I mean, yeah, we're just at the very start of I mean, they've always been franchises and sequels and things like that. But yeah, this was prior to Harry Potter kicking off a big saga like that and The Lord of the Rings. I think these were both the following years. So you didn't have many sequels and franchises and all that kind of business happening in the in the year two thousand as you did in later years throughout the twenty first century. So I don't know, it's it's a lot more a lot more of an open field this time around. So they need some clues, mister Dando, and you're you're pretty good with the clues. You're pretty good at sprinkling around. So the first clue, the clue for number two is alcohol, and the clue for number three is dama. Oh okay, then alcohol alcohol in a perfect world to be like a celebration of drinking. Clue. The story kicks off with alcohol combined with a limousine Starry Sandra Bullock. Oh okay, yeah, yeah, that third clues took us, took us right over the top. Because everyone loves Sandra Bullock America's sweetheart, of course. But every once in a while you got to try and show your range or show your range, and Sandy did that in two thousand with a movie called twenty eight Days, not twenty eight days Later, not the not the zombie movie, but twenty eight Days, which is where you how much time you got to spend at a rehab facility when you enjoy your booze or your illicit substances just a little bit too much fun. Fact early role for Viggo Mortenson, Oh there he goes thinks with Sandra Bullick is like I grew up with her being it's like a main like a main star. But it's like I remember her partner, like cheated on it or something. It's like some fucking tattoos like biker dude or whatever. I was like, are you fucking mad, Sandra Bullick? Yeah? It was. Actually his name was Jesse James. And whether he was an actual descendant of the real Jesse into the legendary the legendary outlaw, or this guy was just a pretender, because you know, you're right, he was a tattered up dude who could customize motorbikes. And he got a real profile boost because it's like, what's America's sweetheart Sandra Bullick doing with his rough trade? And I don't know if he already had a reality show, but he maybe got a reality show out of this boost. But anyway, cheated on Sandra Bullock. Fuck that guy, Yeah, same as Sny Twain. Schnia Twain's partner left her for like her old friend or something. I'm like, what, Johnny Twain, have you not? Have you not seen the video for Man? I feel like a woman. I'm sorry. She's got the man's shirts, scorched short skirt and the hat and oh my god. Scientists have said that her facial structure is like the perfect human being? Are you out of your mind? Not just scientists, Guy Davis said this not not not just beautiful, but look incredibly talented she did don't impress me much. I'll tell you what, sir, who cheated on Sny Twayne, You don't impress me much, not at all anyway. And the third one is dumber, dumber as the clue we're talking Jeffrey dumber, no dumber and Greg Oh Okay, then we're talking the actress Jennet Elfman, who's Doctor Flintstones' Viva Rock Vegas. Oh dad, because that is a good bit. It really is. I think it might be better than the one with John Goodman. Yeah. I showed Elliott recently and he really liked it. Yeah. Good Films got the Greg Gazoo. Oh yep, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha because Jenna Elfman, Okay, Dama from Dama and Gregg is torn between two fellas, one of him as a priest, one of him as a rabbi. It's like the old joke, well maybe it's like a joke. I don't know. But the priest is played by Wood Norton, the rabbi is played by Ben Stella, and the movie is called Keeping the Faith. Not a bad movie. To the best of my recollection. It sounds like a fun Friday night a bit of popcorn watch it with you, missus movie. It kind of is. Yeah. I mean, I don't think I've revisited many many years, but remember when I was watching going this is fun frothy. It seems like the same kind of veins, like I know how to lose a guy in ten days kind of vibe. Is that what it's going for? Yeah? I think so. Yeah, which another perfectly acceptable romcom, How to lose a guy in ten days? Is great? If that's fine. Yeah, they're keeping the faith, yes, directed by Directed Maye wood Norton. By the way, Oh wow, I did not know that. Yes, the Rules of Engagement still holding strong at number one, twenty eight days at number two, and keeping the Faith at number three on the US box office when The Deep South originally aired in the US. Oh, I want to ask it a question, all right, So my first question for you today is when or what time his homie is going to be awake according to the clock on his neck when he's having a sleep. Damn it. Oh that's a good one. And I must have looked away when that happened, because I don't know. I'm gonna throw one out there and say one thirty pm at seven PM. I couldn't be more wrong. Yes, the sun was setting, He's going to be waking up at seven. Yet my question to you, then, my first question is what is Bender's call sign when he's making that deal that's blue Raven Because that was one of my questions. Not gonna lie My next one is what was the main article on the front page of Atlantic Monthly O? Bender was reading it. Bender was reading that when I were saying, where's Fry's where where's he going? And Bender's just sitting there reading a magazine. It's called Atlantic Monthly Letter Monthly. I do not know. Please give me a short fiction by a clam That's what it says. At what depth is the planet express ship when the meter breaks or when it breaks? Oh? Good question. I want to say three and a half thousand feet. If you double that, you're correct seven thousand, seven thousand. I thought that was I thought five thousand feet when it when they hit the bottom. I'm pretty sure when they when the glass shadows in it, it's like it's gone to seven thousand. Okay, what were they It was five thousand something when they hit the bottom. What was it? I think they can't go lower than five thousand, or at five thousand ill get crushed or something. They mentioned five thousand that's right here. So yeah, so basically they get at five thousand feets when they hit the bottom, because because leader says we're stranded three thousand miles, what it can't be five thousand feet must be most more. I must have sucked that up because she says we're stranded three thousand miles below the surface, so it must be five thousand. I don't know. I hope someone of the future am I got five for that blunder. We've definitely made a mistake with their notes. That's all good. We dared to presume we're smarter than the future Armor riders. Yes, all right, so let's get into a review of the episode. The original air date of The Deep South was April six and through thousand A production code two ACV one two, written by J. Stewart Burns, directed by Brett Harland, I guess Our Donovan and Parker Posey opening caption is a stern warning of things to come, and the opening cartoon in the in the in the intro well scrap Happy Daffy from nineteen forty three. So the episode kicks off with Planet Express crew at the HQ and Hermie stinks he's purchased a pet license for Nibbler, but unfortunately he's purchased a fishing license and it's mandatory. Very cute that both the Leela and Bender are picking knits, and that Bender's knits are the ones that end up on Nibbler. And then I wasn't a fan of hermis being so cruel about Nibbler love to toss a little bars and in a sack and like throw them into space. I'm like, come down, really doesn't like Nimbler. But they then go fishing. Of course, they fly show just over the exact center of the Atlantic Ocean. I thought the animation was quite odd in this. I just noticed how the water was like its own thing. Did you notice that how it was sort of like it's like computerized the water or something. It was weird. I seemed to recall that animation wasn't doing that at the time that either and either water was the hardest thing to animate or the easiest. But yeah, for a while, if you're watching an animated movie or TV show, they were really messing around with the water, and it always looked a little bit uncanny. It's like you're either too real or not real enough, but you're out of sync with the rest of the animation. Yeah, it was just so different to everything else that it just stood out a lot. But they fly over international waters, of course, So I've been to receives a package. Guess what your accessories to. Have you ever been an accessory to something unwillingly? I'm sure I have. But something happens you're here. I'm just not telling anybody about that. My son the sea air good friends. Lelah's right, fishing blows. What do you say? We make it interact thing cool? Everybody kicking five bucks? Yeah, wasn't that interesting? Bender? I could never be a scammer. I just don't think I've got the temperament for it. And Fry says, I'm you know you're in trouble. Bender. I've once got a fish this big and obviously been it does the extended arms. I'm got to fish this big. It's one of the old classic fishing tails. I've got to fish this big. I think when you're a kid, what age has become no longer cute? When you go my fish was this big, It's like, oh, how cute? This fish wasn't that big? But you know, he just let him think that. Like when you're a teenage you're like, I've got a fish this big. It's like, piss off, mate, Now you didn't. It's like, and your dick is this big? Yes? But then Leila says, you know You're in trouble, both of you, because I'm a woman who owns her own harpoon. Bender mock sash if she throws the harpoon in hes bum, then Hermi's he's wearing his speedos and he's going through his different baits. We got squid and crickets and chicken necks and zooberg office. He's critiquing skills. He does indeed and gets right in there. I think the night roll has got five stars. M Yes, definitely, indeed and just treating like a seagull get out of here, and then it does the sound like you're saying, kind of like the Three Stooges. Then Bender shows off his laser guided fishing rod and fry says he's being too loud. I think that's actually a think it'd be too loud to scare away the fish is a thing you think you can really I think it'll be more like, hey, I'm throwing rocks in the water. That would that would scare away fish. But I'm being too loud now, I think that's silly. But Bender then hits a ship between the eyes, which is of course fry le than harpoons a boot. She thinks she's got something, but it's just the boot. So this is where you go shopping for your boots. I'm like, what a zinger? That is pretty good. I mustn't if you can. That's right on target. The perfect thing for Amy is that she plays the dumb girl so well that she can get bibe of saying things like that, n acting oblivious, but really she knows. She knows. Then Fry catches a really small fish, which is a perfect for a fish nugget style chocolate as he calls it. What the hell's a chunkolate? Have you ever had a chunkolts before? I never, I've never heard of that. Actually, I mean I kind of like the sound of it because there's just a chicken bite or something I reckon. So yeah, I mean I keep saying those ads for like the Hungry Jack's Chicken don't whatever. They don't get it. They're not good. My uncle Darren, who I think listens to this podcast, he got it last weekend, And you're right. You see the pictures, You're like, I'm going to try that. That looks delicious, and they show me the picture and it, no, shit, looks like just your classic processed chicken from any fast food place. I'm like, that is not what's in the picture. Okay, Well I'm just I'm fine. I'll go and make my own. I'll go to the supermarket and I'll get some nice chicken wrist and i'll make Sometimes you can't make chicken if you make it home. Sometimes you just hit that sweet spot and just tastes fucking amazing, you know. Oh yeah, yes, I'm going to That's night for dinner. I think you've just sold me on that. Then Bender hits fry again for any small intestine with the hook and leader catches. This is actually great gag. It's twenty times heavy than any boot, ten pairs of boots. You knew it was coming, but it was still funny. Professor then shows off he's fish. Pheromone and Zoiebergs are so into him. Good a good kick out the oh my, but the zoidberg what do they call the what's what's their? The Decapodians is what they called. I think the squid things on the face. Just just think that he's raised in general, Yeah, just the way they the way they show emotion and kiss each other, it's just like fucking gross. One doesn't want to think about fish and sexuality. It's cut. Yeah, it just coliches up all manner of just gross and slimy images. I mean, the least with animals a kind of like yeah, I can sort of yeah, that kind of makes sense. I mean they're all moving parts, but eggs and fertile those are and all that kind of stuff. Sorry, we're skipping to the end, but no, it gives me. That gives me the Wiggins that he be jeebies but fry then catches are pretty decent fish and benders throws in the towels. That's it. I'm not going to catch anything. If I'm not going to catch a fish, then might as well not catch a big fish. And he steals Amy's umbrella and he had and he uses the diamond the filament tether I think it was, and it belonged to Professor's grandmother. That gave purely to set up the fact that it's unbreakable. And because like that would be like the first thing people would ask if they didn't set up the fact that this this line was unbreakable. It's like why did that thing drag a ship under water? But anyway, he uses the man which is bait, and we get the of course, the man which gag the son is now setting Amy's sunburnt hermy, He's gonna wake up at seven. Leather is still going for it, though she's very determined. There was another element to this story we haven't touched on yet that I feel like they wanted us to believe that Leather was disappointed that Fry was jealous at first that he's going with his mermaid, but then also really sad and disappointed that he's not going to be coming to the surface because she's into him, without actually saying it, because she was like what about us? Yeah. Yeah, they may have been a little too subtle with that, because it's not something that really sprang to mind while I was watching this. I mean, maybe that's something to do with the fact that Umbrell was just so done adorable. It's like, yeah, yeah, it's more like a missed opportunity than oh yeah, everything's back to normal. Yeah. It wasn't necessarily like just beauty design wise, it was just Parker Posey's voice could make you fall in love with anybody. Seriously, She's just so sly. Yeah, and then Leader's got something. It's alive this time, but it turns out. It's just another boot that's being held by doctor Zoeberg. He was eating it, so she said, that's it. We're giving up, We're going home. Amy wakes up. She's incredibly sunburns, but she's got a honkive. Bender is great on her back because uses I remember went to schoolies so it would have been two thousand and six, and my mate did this with his phone number on his back, so when he walked around school, these people would know his phone number. It did work. It is a good an idiot. I think that's still a pretty decent attention grabber. Yeah, it's a good strategy, yes, but it's almost like I feel like girls would just like I add a spite not doing it. I don't know, but because when he fasted, I was like, pretty clever idea. Yeah it's not a good idea, but it's a clever idea. Yeah. Leither then says pulling your lines and they realize that Bender has hooked a colossal mouth bass and you can't do a fishing trip without catching the giant fish, can you? Like? They do it the symptoms he catches General what's his name? General? It was a general Sherman. General Sherman. That's the one. Yes, he goes by the name of Hammer, but yeah, yeah, it's a great one. But I'm drag the ship under the water. Zoiber tries to save them by cutting the unbreakable line. Doesn't work. At least he's going to die with his friends that they're all bailing on him. This is the thing, though, why did Zorber care he could just swam? He lives in water. Why why was he worried? Why why was he going to die? You can live in water, He's fine. And then this is another gag that does really it raises more questions and it answers. He's so Hermie's speedos rise to the top of the water, right how how? Oh? Yeah? Oh yeah, Like he got into the ship when before they went under the water. Did he open up the latch when he went under the water and throw his undees out? Like? Why? M But there that's one for the ages. We we're at five thousand feet one hundred and fifty atmospheres worth of pressure and you know, not gonna go well because the ship can only handle one And then they hear a sound and when if you're underwater and in some like submarine, or something like that. And to hear that kind of sound, you're like, uh, oh, wearing some strife right now. And Bender says, there's someone bending some girders, and everything starts smashing, including Professor's glasses and the little clocks, and Bender's eyes start smashing. Then the pipe start leaking. They said, we're gonna have to release some pressure. How we're gonna do it, and prices up back in a minute, much as the toy that comes back saves the day purely by accident. That was a good gay. That was a pretty good gay. That's one of the scariest things about you know, the sea though. I mean, first of all, it's like when you can drown, it's unforgiving. That that's the yeah, the first and foremost. But then it's like if you gonn deep enough, it'll actually crush you. Yes, it's like anything anything scarier than than the water is fire, true, because like at least some of water, if you drown, it's like it's going to be somewhat painful and terrifying, but it's terrifying. And then all of a sudden, peaceful, peaceful fire, you are burning to death. Like I don't think there was a worse way, Like would you rather be eaten by a shark or burn to death? There is there a third option. I'd go with the shark. I think, yeah, I felt the shark. You would die way sooner, way quicker. Yeah, but fire. Also, if we're taking death out of the equation, there's a chance you could like pull a Mick Fanning and like poke a shark and they are punch it on the bottle and maybe maybe make a get away. You can't punch fire. Believe me, I've tried it. We realize here the fish has got away. It's far worse than they ever thought, and they're stranded three thousand miles at the bottom of the ocean. Campers are wearing thin. Let's just hope some robot doesn't kill everybody. The important thing is that we're dought panic. There are rules for situations like this. No, the first order of business is lunch. I suggest a nice loves the Zoidberg I mean Lobster Newberg, I mean doctor Zoidberg. This is the kind of thing, though, like I don't know, imagine me in a situation where it's like, all right, guys, we just need to just throw it on the table. Cannibalism may be a thing here. May you have to become an option. Who's going first? And Leila says that Zoidberg and Bender they can survive in water, so they can go look for food. Fri says, I better go too, because they don't know what I like. I also do that when like I'll be like with friends or whatever and they're going to get like macas or CAFs, I better go just in case they get the wrong thing. I want to get what I like and what I like, I'm just gonna go. I'm going to come just to make sure amateurs are just going to go. You give us five big macs and a few quarter pounds, like, there's so much more to explore. Professor then says, you know. He offers Fry his experimental anti pressure pill, which is a suppository that looked painful. Yeah, you wanted to be a little more streamlined and maybe a little less sizeable. A lot of things going in the butt this episode. They're out collecting food, Fries doing okay, just it's like a garbage bag almost. He's getting his air out of and Bender he jacks on with the electric eel and Zoiberg eats the lot. What are these fish called. They're scary fish at bottom the ocean with like the light bulb. Oh Alie calls him the nightmare fish. Let's go with that. I think that's appropriate. They are terrifying. Yeah. It was really disappointed though, because they had that on the pamphlet of the Melbourne Aquarium. But I actually have one. They have like a display kind of thing about one. So Ali was so looking forward to seeing a nightmare fish, and then he did see one, is all he can complain about. It's like, no, no, I'm like, it's a twenty four gator right there. There's not a nightmare fish. Dinosaur kids, get it. I'm gonna throw him with the with the croc. Yeah, then you get a nightmare exactly right. Yeah, but yeah, you know, Zoidberg runs awa from, runs away from the fish, hides in a shell. Look at me, doctor Zoidberg, home owner. And they come across the pirate ship. Careful, fry, I think that flag might be poisonous. Ah, Hi, maybe I shan't hide us some hardy grub a the lies of science. Be a hish mistress, say Roberts, old buddy, because you help me move a couch okay, but I'm might carrying upstairs. Then this is a great animation. Gag. I'm not moving anything upstairs, and they both just like this, step into this shell and just disappearing. It's like added the scene for a minute. That's what that was funny, the way they handled that. This is where Umbreel arrives and Fryers can't believe it. Imagine seeing a real life fucking mermaid. He'd like, what the hell I know? Blow your mind? Yeah, and he tries to explain it to the water what he's seen. Lemonade, big parade, shouldn't learns have been repaid and now fry We cut to fry over the dinner table and he's still babbling, take the swally your food and then speak because I'm an out full of dinner. And nobody believes in that he saw a mermaid. They think he's crazy. And then you know, he says, there's plenty of crazy crazy things to sit at the bottom the as look at Zoeberg and that's another aspect of the other episode as well. Zoyberg was just setting up house. He's just like, all right, this is life now, and fucking gold for it. You know, he was right at home. He should have just stayed there. They should, I know, his house band should have set up another place. He was love a life down there, but he would have been lonely, of course. But anyway, Leila says, that's now it's ocean madness. And I feel like they wanted this to be a thing but just didn't seem to work with me. Like I know. Oh, I think they were trying to make it into a into a thing, trying to make fair chappen, but it wasn't wasn't quite hitting the mark. But I'm frying storms out in anger. You know, maybe ocean madness, but that's no excuse for ocean rudeness. Now, was he putting a lot of He was like trying to put oxygen in the suitcase before. Not quiet. So he's in the bedroom. This is the first time we see the quarters of the of the Planet express ship the bedroom and umbrella to plead to the window. She says, come outside, So he just tries to slam so as much air as possible into a suitcase. That's right, that's hilarious. And then she gives him the device to breathe as they call him a breather in Atlanta. Here you go, darling. Hey, I can breathe and talk just like a fish. Oh you speak fish? No? No what, I'm sorry? My accents atrocious. My name's Umbria. I'm fry. So am I gonna drown? Of course not. Just stay calm and let the general currents relax your every muscle. Oh yeah, did he just get warmer? I can't believe you're really real. I like your tail. Oh you're sweet. I like those weekly duo dads coming out of your hips. Oh thanks, they're called pants. This here's a volcanic fan. The water comes out at over four thousand degrees No kidding? Did it just get colder? Tell me more about that bizarre landing world you come from. Is there water there too? Sure? Sometimes it falls from the sky and sometimes it doesn't. Oh, mister Fry, you do go on. You know what I like best about you, Umbriel? You find me fascinating, even when I'm not claiming to be a jewel fief for a lion teamer. Lions. There are sea lions on the land. Yep, we call them land sea lions. I team them. We get the montage of them just hanging out having a great day together. Whilst Atlantis by Donovan plays in the background. It was it was the perfect song for the moment. I think, yeah, it really was both in terms of thematically because of the I wanted to see Kingdom and all that, but just the rhythms of it are really a magical This is the magical world he's just discovered coming in soothing exactly right, you know, even if they are watching a whale and the squid battle to the death, that was pretty coold. All was missing was but I love that they had their little flags for for each side. Yeah, and then they're obviously writing the sting ray as well, and he writes I love you with like the light up electric fish or whatever. And then Professor Farnsworth has upgraded the ship's propulsion system, which we find out what it is a little bit later. Later asked where fries and Hemie says he's out looking for that mermaid probably, and she reiterates ocean madness, and I was like, yeah, this isn't really sticking, but you're trying. You're trying your best appreciate it. But they say we're gonna have to go out and try and find in the all and need oxygen in case of emergency, my ass is a flotation device. And then Professor reminds me of that. Reminds Professor speaking of asks about the pills. Yes, yes, we've insard of them. Don't worry. Then Zoiberg sniffs him out. There's another question, right, So they go out the pressure area of the ship and they use the pills, but they come back in. They're never wet. Oh, I didn't really notice that. Like FRI's hair always stays on, like up and things like, it's like their hair, their hair is never affected by being wet. It's like it's weird because you can breathe underwater, doesn't mean you're not getting wet. Wet, but the eagle eyes of Dando folks. But they go outside and Zoberg stifts them out where the water is getting warm, and they go towards it and they discover who could it be? Are the old legends true? It's the lost City of Atlanta. It's a nice reveal plos City of Atlanta. Yes, it's really well done the way they've handled all this. Yeah, incorporating real life world with the future. But also I guess this is futuristic because there are spacip under the water in that sense. But I know, like it doesn't feel spacey, does it. This episode feels more. It feels like a fantasy. It feels like a fantasy in the venture down under the Water. Yeah, So the colonel greets them and bend it does a deliverance music. It's hilarious and it gives them all breathes. They can breathe, and Professor says he wants it to be a suppository instead fascination with the with the asses and now the Colonel says that the tourism is their main source of income, so please spend all your money and please don't leave. Then Fry rocks up with Umbrell and Bennetts. I knew you, I knew you'd be alive. Are you ten dollars? Hermes? And then he introduces Umbriel to these Yankees, and Umbriel she's she's in denial. I guess maybe she's not in denial, but she's just been confused as to the true history of Atlanta, isn't she. Oh yeah, she thinks Atlanta was on the same level as Paris and New York. Welcome from It's a bit of a bad bit of a bad rap for Atlanta, which is apparently a very nice place. WHI was a lovely place. Yeah, but they do love taking the mickey out of various locations around America in Futurama and New Jersey. Yeah, I mean there are certain American cities, if you've grown up watching US sitcoms, certain places get a bit of a nudging or a bit of a sledging, And yet Jersey is one of them. Cleveland, there was a city was always sort of traders a bit second, right, I don't think I've ever heard of Atlanta getting a bad rap before. Luckily Donald Glover came to the rescue and did four seasons of the show called Atlanta that I think rebranded is like, no, it's actually pretty cool. Join. Then they show off the video that talks about the history of Atlanta, voiced by or narrated by Donovan. Atlanta was a city landlocked hundreds of miles from the area were now called the Atlantic Ocean, yet so desperate the city's desire for tourism that they moved offshore, becoming an island an an even bigger delta hub, until the city overdeveloped and it started to sink. Knowing their fate, the quality people ran away Ted Turner, Thank Adam, Jeff Foxworthy, the guy who invented Coca Cola, the Magician, and the other so called gods of our legends, though gods they were, and also Jane Fonda was there. The others choose to remain behind on their porches with their rifles and one day evolve into mermaids and sing and dance and ring. In the new they put a Ted Turner statue down, which is a gag that just feels very dated now. It really does. Yeah, but for a while, their Ted Turner was at the synonymous with Atlanta and particularly you know, his Cable News Network scene and then which we get a really nice funny visual gang where they refer to it as c Sea n He kind of kind of visit out, didn't The old Ted Turner kind of did. Although I imagine he's probably sleeping on a well it's Ted stor with us think Ted Turner passed away? Did he not? I believe so, But I'm pretty sure up to all his final days he was sleeping on a bed full of money. No, says Ted Turner. You know he hasn't passed away. I apologize, Ted Turner. He's still alive. At the ripe old age of eighty four, or keep at it, keep out of Ted, and you know he's probably living the high life somewhere down in the South. Good on him, Ted turning nearly single handley, I say single Handley. He funded it, put Vince fit Man out of business. He started his own wrestling company WCW, which is where he had the Evil Hulk Hogan and all those guys rocked up and they were based in Atlanta, Georgia, and nearly did it, but then due to poor, poor management, mismanaged. They spent a lot of money and went making enough back in return, and it went out of business and got brought out by Vincent Man. But yes, teens always gets the upper hand. And the Ted turn of statue was put down in Atlanta caused the island to be overdeveloped and it sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The main people, like the celebrities that the rich left on on a lifeboat, and the rest chose to stay and evolve into mermaids. And due to the caffeine speeding things up, they were able to evolve into mermaids very very quickly. That stuff's wonderful. I was about to say benders, sort of calling out the chronology take millions of years. Yeah, we're now having dinner at Colonel's. And I liked the nickname for Fry old Legs here calls him legs. He's growing on him and herms. He knows. Yeah, it's lovely what you got here. But I do miss my wife and the oxygen. No, yes, we all love We all miss our loved ones and our gases. The Fry decides that he is going to stay. He's staying. I really can't believe it. You know what she said, why would you want to leave? Why would you want to stay? You're gonna miss us? And Professor says that if you don't come with us, you do realize that your body will adapt to the pressure and you can't return to the surface. But I've realize it. I don't even understand it, stand it. That's a perfect Fry line, It really was. And Zoberg he's got a place just outside of town. Can you can visit sometime? And turns of the colonel. Colonel's this given. No, He's like, I want to get to the country club. I love it. They're very nice about the South, but they're realizing also these guys might be pretty racist. I think it's a country club. I love the idea of being a part of a country club, but I wouldn't buy into the whole exclusivity where it's like, you can't do this and you can't do that. Cause I live in a state here and they have their rules, and I'm just like the fucker. I pay my money, I'm doing what I want. You can't tell me I can't part my car at the front of my house. Fuck yourself. They're like, when we first moved into this estate, one of the rules specifically said you cannot park a ute at the front of your house. And it is not It's got to be a saddan sidan or a family vehicle, got to be a ute. And I'm like, you can't tell people what vehicles they can park their house. They probably would pronunce it saddan sad. Yeah, I'm sorry. From paying my damn money, then, yeah, I'm not handing over my heart and they have more rules imposed on me. No, it's kind of why you get money in the first place, so you don't have to follow rules. See see that footpath at the front of my house, that's all cracked. It hasn't been fixed in six years. Fixed that first, then I'll move me you. But yeah, so he's not allowed to go visit Zoieberg and bend it. I like the Bender was genuinely sad here. It wasn't like a fake sadness. He was just really sad. He's gonna misfry. And then they right back to the ship. Nobody cares that they're going to be as Zobeg staying as well. I kind of feel bad for Zoiebeg there as well, my home throwing down. Oh how did this happen? That's a very good question. So that's where I left my cigar. That just raises further questions. Umbrella then wants him to make a murder woman out of murder me. That's what she says, and fries getting the vapors. He jumps into bed, Brah flies away, boobs galore, and he realized that he can't have sex, like I should be that other kind fish part on top and the woman on the bottom. I mean, it would be better sexually, but I don't think it'd be more appealing to look at fry Fry showing a distinct lack of imagination, he shall we say yes, it's what did you think Fry was gonna happen? What do you think was going to happen? Fry? You know, just enjoy a little surf and turf. Yeah, I just felt so bad for She's like, oh, he's gonna don't even know what that means. She's just I feel so bad for He's gonna take me to the debutime ball and he's like that young duke one from making. But I'm like, poor woman, like she just like as he said, Parker Posey just makes her so lovely, an appeal of healing. And he's just like, we're the best for her because she never fucks ever. Fry, she just she gave her all to him, so she opened up. She's just incompatible. She took him in and then she was just like perfect. He was perfect foreign and she just dashed and fried and a rise. At the ship, he realizes they're leaving like the tail on the back of the ship. That's the change that Professor has made to get out of there. And he grabs on to the giant hook callback and it gets dragged out and of course another callback we get the basses returned yes Man, which arrived in the land and bends being offered a thousand dollars for catching the breaking the record for the heaviest fish or whatever. Then Fry falls out of the mouth along with the man, which it's all coming full circle, and you know, he said, well, what about Umbrell? I loved her, but I wasn't in love with her. Trouble, and we all had a moment where our friends have said something and I'm like, yeah, I know what you're saying, but I know what you really mean. Yeah, we're all good at subtext here. Yes, I won't, I won't, I won't mention it. I know what you mean though, And unfortunately, because Fry and the man which are fallen out of the mouth of the back, the weight has gone down and now Bender is not getting his thousand dollars, so he's choking Fry. Meanwhile, Zoidberg is now living inside the bass opens up the girls like a blinder. I'm trying to sleep Venetian blinds. If we get Donovan saying hey or Atlanta just before they're closing credits there and Yeah, just a fun episode, an episode that I don't think I've ever given enough love too that I loved this episode, but I definitely enjoyed. I remember when I watched this Originally it wasn't one of my favorites for some reason, but I've recatched now I'm like, yes, maybe because i've I would have watched this before i'd had my first like true love and things like that, So I guess that aspects more appealing to me now. Yeah. Yeah. Plus, you know, look, it's a pretty good episode in a lot a lot of ways, and it is just given a bit of spike into occasional greatness or much more enjoyability by the presence of miss Posey as as Umbrell. I think, yes, definitely. All right, guys, well that is our review of the Deep sol If hope you all enjoy it. Thank you for you support here on the Fourth Finger Discount Patreon. Next episode on Tails the Future, we are reviewing Bender gets made a bit of it. Maybe I think this is a Good Fellas parody, Oh is it? I think it's just the Mafia movie in general parody. He becomes part of the Mafia. But Goodfellas is kind of like the premier Mafia movies. So once again, the unified theory of four Finger Discount holds steady. Yet, because we are also recorded the most recent episode of four Finger Discounts where on the Road. He doesn't in that episode as well, folks, and oh, it's just a joy to hear. It's like having a little jug of warm honey being poured into your ear. But they mentioned Atlanta in that one as well, so you know it's all connected. It is connected to end. All right, guys, we're out. This has been the deep sapp have you have a fantastic couple of weeks and we're back with our Benny gets made catch later, Samson Davis, my Man Wig
