<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Breaking News with me Jeff Grub,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for
<v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're going to be talking
<v Speaker 1>about more news from Nintendo about that switch to reveal
<v Speaker 1>and fans are letting Nintendo have it about the price
<v Speaker 1>of the games and the system. It's going to be
<v Speaker 1>a good one. We have Jason Fonelli on the show. Jason,
<v Speaker 1>how are you doing.
<v Speaker 2>I'm I'm I'm still recovering. Yesterday was a wild one.
<v Speaker 2>It had NonStop all day and then I did the
<v Speaker 2>we did the kid pick up thing, and I rehearsal
<v Speaker 2>last night. Just a long, long, long Wednesday. But man,
<v Speaker 2>so much to talk about, the good, the bed, the ugly,
<v Speaker 2>the confusing, the It's just a full banquet of Nintendo
<v Speaker 2>news of to to take in and I think I
<v Speaker 2>finally got my head on about it. But there's probably
<v Speaker 2>some things that we've missed that we're already going to
<v Speaker 2>talk about here, and I'm excited to do that.
<v Speaker 1>Uh it's uh people are doing in this chat, what
<v Speaker 1>they're doing in the Nintendo treos chat right now, which
<v Speaker 1>is just yelling drop the price.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>Look, I have no control I have no control the
<v Speaker 1>power block costs you in your countries. Everybody. It's just
<v Speaker 1>gonna be what it is. And uh, I'm sure the
<v Speaker 1>the r US government make announcements here pretty soon. They'll
<v Speaker 1>make everything more expensive, right as soon as we're done here.
<v Speaker 1>Uh yeah, it's listen. It was while it was non
<v Speaker 1>stop yesterday, I you know, one podcast after another, one
<v Speaker 1>show after another. I think at one point Lucy got
<v Speaker 1>married to some guys she met on the streets and
<v Speaker 1>made a pizza hat with Ai and Enzoy. It was.
<v Speaker 1>It was a hell of a thing. But we have
<v Speaker 1>more Nintendo switched to stuff to talk about, so we'll
<v Speaker 1>get on into all that here pretty soon. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>previous did start coming out today. People got hands on
<v Speaker 1>with that thing. I guess just in general, where is
<v Speaker 1>where's your excitement level? Where is your sort of uh
<v Speaker 1>you know, person relationship with the price at all that stuff.
<v Speaker 2>I I was in the four hundred to four to
<v Speaker 2>fifty range, so I was prepared for that five hundred
<v Speaker 2>with the game inside. Again, I was prepared for four
<v Speaker 2>to fifty console five hundred with a game inside. I
<v Speaker 2>was probably going to pay for that if there wasn't
<v Speaker 2>a game involved, So yes, I'm that part not shot me.
<v Speaker 2>I understand the apprehension, I do. I understand that it
<v Speaker 2>is a lot of money to ask for a game console,
<v Speaker 2>especially in a time of let's nicely call it uncertainty
<v Speaker 2>as far as what things are, what things are happening
<v Speaker 2>outside of our control. But the I think the more
<v Speaker 2>interesting conversation for me is the software and the fact
<v Speaker 2>that that's we're talking seventy eighty dollars. There was a
<v Speaker 2>ninety thing floating around, but I feel like that was
<v Speaker 2>just a EU price that was converted to American dollars.
<v Speaker 2>I think, I don't think that. I'd never have not
<v Speaker 2>seen any USD ninety dollars physical games again.
<v Speaker 1>No, I haven't. Then, and people are like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart's going to be ninety dollars on the website,
<v Speaker 1>they say the retail price that they're suggesting is eighty dollars.
<v Speaker 1>I guess it could be more. It's usually now how
<v Speaker 1>it works. But you know, honestly, ninety euro is way
<v Speaker 1>way more like a euro is more, is still worth
<v Speaker 1>more than a dollar. So that's quite a bit of money.
<v Speaker 1>So I get why people are confused and trying to
<v Speaker 1>figure this out, and I think you're right. Like the
<v Speaker 1>hardware price is one thing. I think we were kind
<v Speaker 1>of all anticipating something definitely more than what the switch
<v Speaker 1>one costs. And then but I think everyone' say, well,
<v Speaker 1>maybe we'll get four hundred and we'll talk in more
<v Speaker 1>details about all this, because there's plenty to say and
<v Speaker 1>plenty of reasons why people think this is happening. But
<v Speaker 1>you know, it is that game price that that people
<v Speaker 1>are really hurting at right now. And I just I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, because we had we just did this dance
<v Speaker 1>with seventy dollars and it, yeah, I'm sure it like
<v Speaker 1>had a couple percentage points to price on game sales
<v Speaker 1>there for a little bit, but it's mostly been like
<v Speaker 1>digested and gone through the system, and everyone's like, that's
<v Speaker 1>just normal now, and I think that's probably just gonna
<v Speaker 1>happen again here. But people are at the end of
<v Speaker 1>the rope with price increases absolutely around the world. Everyone's
<v Speaker 1>just feeling it. I mean, you go through a list
<v Speaker 1>of things that have gone up in price in your
<v Speaker 1>life and it's like, Okay, well, yeah, boy, my house
<v Speaker 1>is worth more so now my property taxes went up
<v Speaker 1>a ton so my mortgage is more every month, and
<v Speaker 1>all right, well I need a home, so I'm going
<v Speaker 1>to keep paying that one kind of don't have a
<v Speaker 1>choice there. That's a big bum er. That's a lot
<v Speaker 1>of money. It's like all the money I just got
<v Speaker 1>from my cost of living increase hooray. Oh no, that's
<v Speaker 1>all just gone immediately. So let's look around where I
<v Speaker 1>can cut. And it's like, well, now we're not talking
<v Speaker 1>about cutting, we're talking about games being more expensive. So
<v Speaker 1>it's like, okay, jeezyre and it's Nintendo. They don't lower
<v Speaker 1>the price of their games. So it's just so easy
<v Speaker 1>to like look at a future where it's like they're
<v Speaker 1>pricing me out of the hobby that I've you know,
<v Speaker 1>built my life around. Yeah. I think people are getting
<v Speaker 1>a little bit sick of hearing the explanation of well,
<v Speaker 1>the United States is getting tariffs and it so well,
<v Speaker 1>that's not us, we have there's nothing to do with us.
<v Speaker 1>Although all the markets are connected, everything is feeds into
<v Speaker 1>one another, and unfortunately what happens in the United States
<v Speaker 1>kind of does set a tone because they want they
<v Speaker 1>want to be like that's the baseline price that we're
<v Speaker 1>kind of like trying to aim for and then everything
<v Speaker 1>else is calculated off of that. That's how a lot
<v Speaker 1>of these companies operate, even Nintendo, And so it's I'm sorry,
<v Speaker 1>I'm sorry that we're like this. I'm sorry that we're
<v Speaker 1>doing this. Yeah, that's correct.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think it's helping either that we have now
<v Speaker 2>seen some games that are seventy, some games that are eighty.
<v Speaker 2>Are they going to keep doing this back and forth?
<v Speaker 2>Is it going to depend on the game? Are we
<v Speaker 2>really going to pay a ten dollar premium for first party?
<v Speaker 2>Is that a possible thing that could happen. It's there's
<v Speaker 2>too many unanswered questions, and which is weird to say
<v Speaker 2>coming out of a sixty minute announcement video that this
<v Speaker 2>switch to direct was the fact that the price wasn't
<v Speaker 2>in there at all makes sense because they film it
<v Speaker 2>two months prior and they don't know what the price
<v Speaker 2>was going to be, perhaps because of all of the uncertainty.
<v Speaker 2>But now I think you need to have some sort
<v Speaker 2>of not follow up, but like there needs to be
<v Speaker 2>more information out there. And there were even some things
<v Speaker 2>that they were cagy about reading previews and things at
<v Speaker 2>the event yesterday, like they would not answer the question
<v Speaker 2>about battery life. That to me is very silly. This
<v Speaker 2>cageness for something as trivial as battery life, or as
<v Speaker 2>important as what are we going to be paying you
<v Speaker 2>for the foreseeable future. You can't have it. They need answers,
<v Speaker 2>and Nintendo, historically weird just can't. They can't afford that. Now,
<v Speaker 2>to use a pun, they have to come out and
<v Speaker 2>be as clear as possible with their plan so people
<v Speaker 2>can play and accordingly, especially when you're going to drop
<v Speaker 2>a console two months after you announce all of these details,
<v Speaker 2>something just doesn't it's not clicking for me.
<v Speaker 1>Well, let's just get into it. So let's explain what
<v Speaker 1>we do here most weekdays, I, Jeff Greb will help
<v Speaker 1>piece your gaming life back together. That includes breaking news
<v Speaker 1>and maybe even some of our own original reporting. For
<v Speaker 1>all these topics, I'll get the input of a bona
<v Speaker 1>fide expert who will make me look smart. If you
<v Speaker 1>are watching live on twitch welcome, You can always listen
<v Speaker 1>to the show later on podcast feeds by searching for
<v Speaker 1>game breaking news, or find the RSS feed on Giant
<v Speaker 1>Bond dot com. You can also catch the show later
<v Speaker 1>on YouTube. Hello YouTube, all right, we have a lot
<v Speaker 1>to get into. So let's start the show with Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Switch two's four hundred and fifty dollars price tag was
<v Speaker 1>likely influenced by Trump tariff's experts say. This is from
<v Speaker 1>Chris Scullion at VGC. The price of Nintendo Switch two
<v Speaker 1>could have been affected by US President Donald Trump's trade tariffs.
<v Speaker 1>Expert analysis claims the Switch two's price of four hundred
<v Speaker 1>and fifty dollars in the US is considered at the
<v Speaker 1>higher end of what was realistically expected and excuse me.
<v Speaker 1>Analysts of an analysis of the I'm sorry, yeah, and
<v Speaker 1>analysts suggest Nintendo's decision may have been in anticipation of
<v Speaker 1>an impact by any tariffs imposed by Trump. Trump has
<v Speaker 1>been imposing tariffs on numerous countries in recent weeks, including
<v Speaker 1>a sizeable tariff on China, where tech products are often manufactured.
<v Speaker 1>On Wednesday, he also introduced a blanket ten percent tariff
<v Speaker 1>on all imports, with countries like China and Japan, and
<v Speaker 1>what Trump calls the worst offenders getting larger tariffs of
<v Speaker 1>fifty four percent and twenty four percent between China and Japan.
<v Speaker 1>Now we'll kind of mention it here, but I'm gonna
<v Speaker 1>read the rest of this as well. China is one place,
<v Speaker 1>one of the places where Nintendo was manufacturing switch hardware
<v Speaker 1>for a long time in anticipation of trade issues with
<v Speaker 1>the United States, along with, you know, just a desire
<v Speaker 1>to diversify where they're producing stuff in the first place,
<v Speaker 1>because you never know what's gonna happen with like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>geopolitical issues and your relationship with China. They did begin
<v Speaker 1>manufacturing a lot of hard components in Vietnam and Cambodia. Well, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>let's keep reading the story to see how the tariffs
<v Speaker 1>are doing on those two countries. It's not great. A
<v Speaker 1>report by The Financial Time suggests that the switch to
<v Speaker 1>price is in indication that Trump's tariffs will have an
<v Speaker 1>effect on video game prices. Japanese video game analyst and
<v Speaker 1>founder of Canton Games, Circin Toto told the publication that
<v Speaker 1>he believed the switch two price took Trump's recent behavior
<v Speaker 1>into account, saying the price suggested Nintendo was building a
<v Speaker 1>buffer in case tariff's hit supply chains harder than expected.
<v Speaker 1>A separate report from The Financial Times last month suggested
<v Speaker 1>that Nintendo had already been shifting production away from China
<v Speaker 1>since Trump's first administration. Started. It's our stated its intent
<v Speaker 1>to up end global trading, noting that more than half
<v Speaker 1>of the hardware and Nintendo imports into the US comes
<v Speaker 1>from Vietnam and Cambodia. However, the tariffs imposed by Trump
<v Speaker 1>Trump on Wednesday, which he says will go into effect
<v Speaker 1>on April ninth, include a forty six percent tariff on
<v Speaker 1>Vietnam and a forty nine percent tariff on Cambodia. According
<v Speaker 1>to Financial Time sources, hundreds of thousands of switches switch
<v Speaker 1>tos have already been sent from Vietnam to Nintendo's US
<v Speaker 1>facilities since the start of the year, perhaps in anticipation
<v Speaker 1>of such a move. Financial analyst David Gibson told the
<v Speaker 1>publication export data combined with finished product codes, confirms that
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo ship to finished switch to from Vietnam across five
<v Speaker 1>days in January, for a total of three hundred and
<v Speaker 1>eighty three thousand units, with all of them going to
<v Speaker 1>the USA. I suspect this occurred to test the distribution
<v Speaker 1>system and get a head of the risk of tariffs.
<v Speaker 1>I expect the number to have ramped up significantly in
<v Speaker 1>February and March. So a couple things there. Nintendo was
<v Speaker 1>trying to get as many switch to systems into the
<v Speaker 1>United States before these tariffs hit, and that is a
<v Speaker 1>little unusual for they try to like they don't want
<v Speaker 1>to have hardware sitting in warehouses. That's expensive actually just
<v Speaker 1>to have stuff sitting there. They try to keep the
<v Speaker 1>supply chain as taught as possible, like as soon as
<v Speaker 1>it reaches its country of destination, you want to sell
<v Speaker 1>it pretty quickly after that. In this case, they're like, well,
<v Speaker 1>that cost is going to be kind of trivial compared
<v Speaker 1>to these tariffs, so let's get it there. And so
<v Speaker 1>they're already making changes to how they're operating to avoid
<v Speaker 1>these things. It is not a stretch at all. In fact,
<v Speaker 1>I think it's most of the explanation for why the
<v Speaker 1>price is what it is, even globally, that the uncertainty
<v Speaker 1>calls by the tariffs forced Nintendo to go to the
<v Speaker 1>higher end of the spectrum and even do things like
<v Speaker 1>bundle in Mario Kart at five hundred dollars, the bundle
<v Speaker 1>that is very likely to be most readily available. In
<v Speaker 1>my opinion, I think that is they're like, we need
<v Speaker 1>to get this price is but the price we initially
<v Speaker 1>get from someone needs to be around five hundred dollars.
<v Speaker 1>How can we make that make sense. Well, we'll average
<v Speaker 1>that out over the course of the life by including
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart the whole time, so people feel like they're
<v Speaker 1>getting a deal. Now is that going to work? Right now?
<v Speaker 1>People don't. I mean if you just go like gauge
<v Speaker 1>the reaction in the Nintendo chat on the tree House
<v Speaker 1>livestream right now, none of this is working. Everyone is furious.
<v Speaker 1>All you see in chat is drop the price and
<v Speaker 1>a lot of other angry comments. But I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>they don't really have too much of a choice. I
<v Speaker 1>suppose they could have tried to go at four hundred
<v Speaker 1>dollars and just hope for the best that they could
<v Speaker 1>eat some of the cost of the tariffs. But a
<v Speaker 1>forty like fifty percent of the cost of the switch
<v Speaker 1>to they're going to have to pay in taxes just
<v Speaker 1>to bring it to the United States. That is untenable.
<v Speaker 1>They can't make that work. So I'm not surprised that
<v Speaker 1>they tried to find a price point that they could
<v Speaker 1>get away with. That's the whole thing that they try
<v Speaker 1>to do in all these situations, and here they had
<v Speaker 1>to get away with more than they've ever gotten away
<v Speaker 1>with before because of the economic situation. So where do
<v Speaker 1>we go from here? Jason?
<v Speaker 2>Unfortunately, it is an impossible situation because you're either going
<v Speaker 2>to take a bath on every switch to unit that
<v Speaker 2>you sell, which in Nintendo's case, I don't know what
<v Speaker 2>their reserves are like. They have always been one of
<v Speaker 2>the most successful developers and publishers, so perhaps they have
<v Speaker 2>a sizeable enough war chest that they could have taken
<v Speaker 2>a hit for a little while until this whole thing
<v Speaker 2>smooths over. If it ever smooths over, that's the problem.
<v Speaker 2>If you take that approach, you can't go up. Once
<v Speaker 2>you open that Pandora's box, you have to stay there.
<v Speaker 2>And if you're just you just continue to take a
<v Speaker 2>bath on every single one that you do, that's going
<v Speaker 2>to bankrupt you. So they went for, I hope, the
<v Speaker 2>highest possible outlier and then if things start to smooth
<v Speaker 2>out and maybe they come down from there, whether it's
<v Speaker 2>bundling a game with the four forty nine as well,
<v Speaker 2>like you can purchase a game, maybe not Mario Kart,
<v Speaker 2>that's always with the five hundred dollars one, but or
<v Speaker 2>you maybe you can get one of the switch to
<v Speaker 2>edition ones. Yeah for four fifteen.
<v Speaker 1>Called the Nintendo Switch to Welcome Tour, that digital brochure charging.
<v Speaker 2>Fort's bundle that in there. I think, I think we're
<v Speaker 2>going to get into that a little bit. But that
<v Speaker 2>price is not what I expected when I heard about.
<v Speaker 2>I'm just glad it's not eighty dollars, but it's a
<v Speaker 2>it's an impossible situation that should not have It shouldn't be.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, if we're going to really get into it,
<v Speaker 2>the ship should not be happening, right, It's not normal.
<v Speaker 2>None of this is normal.
<v Speaker 1>It's straight up bad. Like I mean, let's be clear
<v Speaker 1>that the Yeah, tariffs are a bad strategy almost one
<v Speaker 1>percent of the time, and like again that's my opinion.
<v Speaker 1>But I'm someone who's been curious about tariffs for a
<v Speaker 1>long time. I remember like learning about it. Like listen,
<v Speaker 1>when I first got interested in economics after the two
<v Speaker 1>thousand and eight financial crisis, and I was mostly just
<v Speaker 1>listening to a lot of books on tape, listening to
<v Speaker 1>a lot of Planet Money. On MPR, they would do
<v Speaker 1>stories about tariffs and it was just like we had
<v Speaker 1>a tariff on imported trucks because Europe had a tariffs
<v Speaker 1>on our chicken and we were mad at them. And
<v Speaker 1>because of that, we still, seventy eighty years later have
<v Speaker 1>a tariff on imported trucks, like mid sized trucks, and
<v Speaker 1>so that's why the F one fifty has been the
<v Speaker 1>best selling truck and doesn't have competition in the United
<v Speaker 1>States really, because all these companies have to do these
<v Speaker 1>other things to get around them. And it's like, well,
<v Speaker 1>why we just get rid of the tariff, because that's politically.
<v Speaker 1>There's no reason why any politician ever wants to get
<v Speaker 1>rid of tariffs, because once it's there, it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>we're going to make things a little bit harder for
<v Speaker 1>our local or domestic businesses. That does that seems like
<v Speaker 1>a loser, and it always is. So once these tariffs
<v Speaker 1>are in place, they are very difficult to get rid of.
<v Speaker 1>We still have, I think the vast majority of the
<v Speaker 1>tariffs that Trump put in place on China and other
<v Speaker 1>countries in the first administration. Some of them like laps,
<v Speaker 1>just there was a timer on them. Some of them
<v Speaker 1>did laps, but a lot of them are still there.
<v Speaker 1>Biden didn't get rid of them, you know, he did
<v Speaker 1>not just like, hey, let's get rid of all this
<v Speaker 1>stuff that was a pretty bad idea. It's like, ah,
<v Speaker 1>that's there or whatever. We now we'll just kind of
<v Speaker 1>go as this is the norm now. So there's a
<v Speaker 1>chance like these things are here for the next fifty years,
<v Speaker 1>like that is what we're talking about. And so it's
<v Speaker 1>like this is just gonna like these companies can't just
<v Speaker 1>hope for the best. They have to operate under the
<v Speaker 1>worst case scenario, because the worst case scenario continues to
<v Speaker 1>happen with these sorts of things. So I at a
<v Speaker 1>certain point, I don't blame Nintendo too much, although I
<v Speaker 1>fully understand the anger.
<v Speaker 2>No for me too, it's stick a shock. It is
<v Speaker 2>pure and simple, stick a shock, and that creates anger
<v Speaker 2>and dismay and disdain and all that stuff. I completely
<v Speaker 2>agree with all of that, although I will say with
<v Speaker 2>these tariffs in particular, I think it'll be a lot
<v Speaker 2>easier it should be to overturn them because of who
<v Speaker 2>they're associated with, right, and is getting overturned, correct, And
<v Speaker 2>if there's any you know, anyone with any brains or
<v Speaker 2>cahones in the on the other side of the aisle,
<v Speaker 2>they are taking all of this reaction. They are paying
<v Speaker 2>attention to all this and they are going to hammer
<v Speaker 2>the hell out of that message between now when the
<v Speaker 2>tariffs go live, if they if that even happens, right
<v Speaker 2>they AOC Bernie whoever wants to be Corey Booker, whoever
<v Speaker 2>it is. They need to be saying, right now, do
<v Speaker 2>you see this? This is in one sector, it's in
<v Speaker 2>one industry, this could be all of them. If you
<v Speaker 2>are not, you know, getting on board with a beining
<v Speaker 2>against this crap right now. I will that happen. I
<v Speaker 2>will not hold my breath. I will not do it.
<v Speaker 2>But it needs to happen because this is just going
<v Speaker 2>to keep happening. Everyone keeps using the specter of grand
<v Speaker 2>theft Auto six behind this, right, and how Take two
<v Speaker 2>is probably licking their chops to make the standard game
<v Speaker 2>one hundred bucks. That the percentage chance of that happening,
<v Speaker 2>I think completely flipped. As soon as that price became.
<v Speaker 2>As soon as Nikki Grayson said seventy nine ninety nine
<v Speaker 2>on that talkover, my brain went to, oh shit, grand
<v Speaker 2>theft aught is going to be one hundred dollars.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean it's at least it's obviously at least
<v Speaker 1>eighty dollars.
<v Speaker 2>Right, there's no way, it's not eighty dollars, right, No,
<v Speaker 2>not not a chance in hell, it's less than zero,
<v Speaker 2>not one, literally zero.
<v Speaker 1>Percent chance the Grand Theft Auto six is less than
<v Speaker 1>eighty dollars. Now eighty to one hundred. I think it
<v Speaker 1>could be anywhere in that spectrum. I think that's a
<v Speaker 1>likelihood above one hundred pretty unlikely. But like for Grand
<v Speaker 1>Theft Auto six kind of also seems like, well, if
<v Speaker 1>you can do eighty and you're not, you know, you're like, well,
<v Speaker 1>look at Grand theftot Student Craft Auto six compared to
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart, right, Like that's the thing that they're going
<v Speaker 1>to be thinking. So they're probably gonna do ninety and
<v Speaker 1>at that point, why not just do one hundred? Like
<v Speaker 1>it's so easy for the kind of like sort of
<v Speaker 1>kick that can down the road and be like, let's
<v Speaker 1>just go a little bit further, a little bit further.
<v Speaker 1>And I think they, like they're saying to themselves correctly,
<v Speaker 1>it'll still sell. And I think that's the thing that
<v Speaker 1>we're at with with with the switch to and Mario
<v Speaker 1>Kart and all these game prices. I think like despite
<v Speaker 1>the backlash that the system is going to sell uh
<v Speaker 1>and uh and and you know it. And then if
<v Speaker 1>they have to lower the price, they can, but I
<v Speaker 1>think they're willing to see how far they can push it.
<v Speaker 3>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And and if we if we get to a year
<v Speaker 1>from now, a year and a half, two years out
<v Speaker 1>and it's still like it's kind of selling pretty close
<v Speaker 1>to what the switch one was doing, I think they
<v Speaker 1>will absolutely just keep going. If there's any sort of
<v Speaker 1>like head end, they can't now, as you said, have
<v Speaker 1>the opportunity to lower the price. They were always going
<v Speaker 1>to struggle to raise the price, So starting on the
<v Speaker 1>high end is what they're gonna do. And they're gonna,
<v Speaker 1>like always do what they can get away with. And
<v Speaker 1>I think they're probably right that they're going to be
<v Speaker 1>able to get away with this. As unfortunate that as
<v Speaker 1>that is, but that's that's the case here.
<v Speaker 2>I know, I know my goofy as is going to
<v Speaker 2>be trying to pre order it next week, and.
<v Speaker 1>That's where a last is coming from. Like I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>I can only be so mad when I'm also going
<v Speaker 1>to be the sucker who's going to be their day
<v Speaker 1>one trying to pre order it, Like I.
<v Speaker 2>Can only be be very hypocritical of me. Yeah, it'd
<v Speaker 2>be very hypocritical of me to be like this price
<v Speaker 2>sucks and then start clicking my F five on whatever
<v Speaker 2>website I decided to go on trying to pre order
<v Speaker 2>this thing. So it's it is amazing to me how
<v Speaker 2>impossible of a situation this is and how avoidable it
<v Speaker 2>all could have been, if you know, keep going so dumb.
<v Speaker 2>I guess that's the word I'm looking.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's it's it's depressing, really, it's it's it's it's
<v Speaker 2>this is supposed to be something I take joy in
<v Speaker 2>every day, and I feel like a little bit more
<v Speaker 2>that joy is getting slowly pulled out of me. It
<v Speaker 2>won't go away forever, it won't. It won't all go away,
<v Speaker 2>I promise you that. But it's becoming harder and harder
<v Speaker 2>to defend this medium that we follow.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, dumb doesn't even begin to do it justice.
<v Speaker 1>We like, I don't know if people saw, like how
<v Speaker 1>someone discovered how they decided what percentage of tariff they
<v Speaker 1>were going to charge for each country.
<v Speaker 2>The I did not.
<v Speaker 1>The administration claims that they did so a lot of
<v Speaker 1>like deep calculations by looking at the tariffs that these
<v Speaker 1>countries charge on us as well as non tariff barriers,
<v Speaker 1>things that raise our costs or whatever. When we're releasing
<v Speaker 1>stuff in their countries. We're exporting to their countries, and
<v Speaker 1>it's like, okay, so you like, what tariffs can you
<v Speaker 1>show us? And they really couldn't show us. And then
<v Speaker 1>someone was like like messing around with the numbers and
<v Speaker 1>they just what they ended up doing was taking our
<v Speaker 1>exports to like Cambodia versus what Cambodia exports to us,
<v Speaker 1>and they just divided those two numbers, and then that
<v Speaker 1>percentage is the percentage of the tariff in every single case.
<v Speaker 1>It is a fundamental catastrophic misunderstanding of how these things work.
<v Speaker 1>And then to go out and claim that this is
<v Speaker 1>based on the non tariff barriers, it is just like
<v Speaker 1>like then, easier way to explain this is you know
<v Speaker 1>how you have a trade deficit with the store you
<v Speaker 1>go to to buy your stuff, Like it would be
<v Speaker 1>like getting angry that you spend more money at the
<v Speaker 1>store than the store spends at your house. That's what
<v Speaker 1>they're doing here with every country on Earth. It's like
<v Speaker 1>the country with most money, naturally you're going to spend
<v Speaker 1>more money in other countries than they spend here. That
<v Speaker 1>is just how things work. And so they just did
<v Speaker 1>the dumbest shit imaginable to come up with made up numbers.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, it's beyond embarrassing. It is beyond idiocracy now,
<v Speaker 1>Like we're past that point. It's dumber than anything we
<v Speaker 1>ever could have imagined. And this is what company is
<v Speaker 1>trying to sell stuff to us to deal with. Like,
<v Speaker 1>at a certain point, I just can't be mad at
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo because what I be mad at the real idiots.
<v Speaker 2>And people say, you know, they will start getting into
<v Speaker 2>the hole because it's because you're a fanboy, right and
<v Speaker 2>that that just just look at me right now, anyone
<v Speaker 2>who's watching this, get that ship out of your mind.
<v Speaker 2>It has nothing to do with who we like. All
<v Speaker 2>of them were just saying the same thing. If it
<v Speaker 2>was Microsoft with the new Xbox.
<v Speaker 1>Never the same thing here soon give them thirty minutes.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, And the same thing with Sony if it was
<v Speaker 2>a PlayStation. This shit sucks no matter who it is,
<v Speaker 2>So lay off that fanboy bullshit, get it, that could
<v Speaker 2>get it's it's missing the forest for the trees. There
<v Speaker 2>are way more important issues here than brand loyalty. If
<v Speaker 2>that's your first thought, you're part of the problem. Straight up.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, you are distracted by stuff that is made up
<v Speaker 1>marketing to get you to spend more money on one brand.
<v Speaker 1>Don't be a sucker. Uh Okay, there's more to talk
<v Speaker 1>about with uh with with a lot of that, but
<v Speaker 1>let's read this next story that's still very related. Higher
<v Speaker 1>game prices could become the norm after in which to
<v Speaker 1>reveal analysts predict. This comes from Darren BoNT Us at
<v Speaker 1>Game Spot. One of the big surprises following this week's
<v Speaker 1>switch to Deep Dive was the price tag for Mario
<v Speaker 1>Kart World, as the game has a suggested retail price
<v Speaker 1>of eighty dollars ahead of its June fifth release. This
<v Speaker 1>is a major increase, especially at a time when consumers
<v Speaker 1>are still debating the value of high profile games, increasing
<v Speaker 1>from sixty dollars to excuse me to seventy dollars, and
<v Speaker 1>according to analysts, this could become the new standard for
<v Speaker 1>the industry. In a breakdown of the switch to and
<v Speaker 1>its pricing, analysts at Nico Partners discussed the impact of
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart World at its price. While there has been
<v Speaker 1>some sticker shock regarding the price of games increasing from
<v Speaker 1>sixty to seventy or eighty. These price points are set
<v Speaker 1>to become industry standards over the next two years, especially
<v Speaker 1>so for Nintendo first party games. Nico Partners explained. One
<v Speaker 1>reason for the higher price is the increased costs of
<v Speaker 1>new and faster game cards themselves, with higher capacities being
<v Speaker 1>more expensive to manufacture than a PS five Blu Ray disc.
<v Speaker 1>It is worth noting that the certain switch to game
<v Speaker 1>cards will only contain keys on the cart that they
<v Speaker 1>can be used to authenticate a purchase and then download
<v Speaker 1>a game directly to the console. Whether these games will
<v Speaker 1>cost sixty or seventy dollars remains to be seen, but
<v Speaker 1>another switch to game, Donkey Kong Bonanza, does have an
<v Speaker 1>MSRP of seventy dollars. The other concern here is that
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo will likely set a new precedent for game prices
<v Speaker 1>with Mario Kart World, allowing other publishers to follow suit
<v Speaker 1>and charge eighty dollars for new games. So, Jason, I've
<v Speaker 1>been asking around a little bit, Hey, what like, what
<v Speaker 1>do you think are what are the people that you
<v Speaker 1>work for? I think they're all ecstatic. They are all
<v Speaker 1>so excited that Nintendo did this. They are pretty much
<v Speaker 1>like they were waiting for someone to do it, and
<v Speaker 1>they're like, and the fact that it's Nintendo doing it
<v Speaker 1>the one that does have the ability to get away
<v Speaker 1>with the most because they do have the most hardcore
<v Speaker 1>fan base In a lot of ways, they're just like, yep,
<v Speaker 1>we are right behind you, Like, give us a little
<v Speaker 1>bit of time and eighty dollars will be the cost
<v Speaker 1>of our games as well. Everyone wants to do this,
<v Speaker 1>and Nintendo paving the way has been big for them.
<v Speaker 1>So I like, I think I'm you know, people should
<v Speaker 1>exercise their critical voice. They should be in Nintendo's chat
<v Speaker 1>saying I hate this lower the price. I do wonder
<v Speaker 1>how much of that pressure is really gonna be felt
<v Speaker 1>by Nintendo when they have all of these cost pressures
<v Speaker 1>and all this other stuff, like really kind of informing this.
<v Speaker 1>And again they're I think they're gonna wait and see,
<v Speaker 1>Like they're not gonna lower the price of anything before
<v Speaker 1>the stuff comes out. They're gonna go with this and
<v Speaker 1>see what happens, and then it's up to people to
<v Speaker 1>actually follow through it and not purchase these things if
<v Speaker 1>they are on the fence. And I do think a
<v Speaker 1>lot of people did move from one side of the
<v Speaker 1>fence to the other when they saw the prices, and
<v Speaker 1>if that maintains that, you know, and then people don't
<v Speaker 1>like eventually talk themselves into it so a price could
<v Speaker 1>come down, they could find ways to like disc I
<v Speaker 1>have more frequent discounts at least, something we didn't see
<v Speaker 1>from Nintendo a lot last generation. And you know, I
<v Speaker 1>think in the meantime people should maybe look around for
<v Speaker 1>other ways to be interacting with games. Now, suddenly PC
<v Speaker 1>gaming really does look like the cheapest way to be
<v Speaker 1>playing games. It's like, yeah, why why not like kind
<v Speaker 1>of go get a Steam deck and enjoy those Steam
<v Speaker 1>sales every time and just kind of wait for a
<v Speaker 1>game to go down and price after six months, something
<v Speaker 1>that won't happen with the Nintendo first party. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>there's gonna be a lot of forces at play here.
<v Speaker 1>But I think the way it's trending is prices are
<v Speaker 1>not just going to come down from Nintendo. Everyone else
<v Speaker 1>is going to raise their prices to meet where Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>is now at.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, rising tide lifts all boats. That is the.
<v Speaker 1>Boats.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's the it's the meme of the
<v Speaker 2>of the kid, of the woman holding the one kid
<v Speaker 2>in the pool, and then the other kids drowning, and
<v Speaker 2>there's a skeleton underneath them. All that that were the skeleton,
<v Speaker 2>and then that's Nintendo's the eighty bucks and everybody coming
<v Speaker 2>up to it. The idea of a pricing Cold war
<v Speaker 2>happening and waiting for the next someone to make the
<v Speaker 2>jumps that we can all say, oh, they did it too.
<v Speaker 2>This would not surprise me at all. That makes perfect sense.
<v Speaker 2>And the fact that, like you said, the fact that
<v Speaker 2>it's Nintendo who has led the charge here is just
<v Speaker 2>going to embolden them even more. And it's going to
<v Speaker 2>be eighty hours of pop both physically and digitally. I
<v Speaker 2>don't think there's going to be any difference there. If
<v Speaker 2>you thought pans sixty bucks for digital license that you
<v Speaker 2>don't actually own was bad, if you want to keep up,
<v Speaker 2>guess what you're going to be doing it at eighty now.
<v Speaker 2>And that's just how this thing is going to go.
<v Speaker 2>And it sucks, and there's no other way to describe it.
<v Speaker 2>It's just I'm now more worried about People were talking
<v Speaker 2>about how the layoffs that we have suffered over multiple
<v Speaker 2>years were a indicative of a bubble, right. I mean
<v Speaker 2>you and I have talked of how it's just normal
<v Speaker 2>industry retraction after the surge that was the pandemic era.
<v Speaker 2>But now if you're combining shrinking labor force with higher prices,
<v Speaker 2>are we now talking about it centil bubble? Like? Is
<v Speaker 2>that something that we could maybe now consider happening? Because
<v Speaker 2>if you're shrinking your labor force, but nobody's buying the
<v Speaker 2>games again because they're too expensive and they're sticking with
<v Speaker 2>the PC gaming thing, there's a lot of things that
<v Speaker 2>are spooking me. Now. I will say as far as
<v Speaker 2>the you know, lowering the price eventually if this does
<v Speaker 2>not pan out thing, there probably are some levers that
<v Speaker 2>we're not even thinking about that Nintendo could pull to
<v Speaker 2>get there and make it feasible for them. But I
<v Speaker 2>don't see. I don't think they dropped the price of
<v Speaker 2>this console in the first year. No, I think we're
<v Speaker 2>talking we're talking next year, next time, unless it's unless
<v Speaker 2>it's catastrophic, unless nobody buys this thing. It sells less
<v Speaker 2>than what they shipped in January, February and March, as
<v Speaker 2>we talked about earlier, and it's it becomes the sorry guys, Vita,
<v Speaker 2>then maybe we have an issue. But is that gonna happen?
<v Speaker 2>Do you see any world where this thing doesn't sell out?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? I mean I think I've seen a lot of
<v Speaker 1>comparisons people have made between this switched or two direct
<v Speaker 1>and these announcements in the price to uh excuse me,
<v Speaker 1>to the we U and the three DS, and it's like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>we use the worst case scenario where that was completely
<v Speaker 1>misreading the room and not having a system to meet
<v Speaker 1>the times and all these other problems, and they that
<v Speaker 1>was a complete failure for four or five years and
<v Speaker 1>they had to really reset everything. The three DS was
<v Speaker 1>a good system that was too expensive and people wanted it,
<v Speaker 1>but it was just too expensive. So it's like, Jason,
<v Speaker 1>do you think this is a WEU scenario? Like? Is yes?
<v Speaker 1>Is this as bad as the we U? Okay, well,
<v Speaker 1>is it a three DS scenario?
<v Speaker 2>Is it?
<v Speaker 1>Like? This is a good system that's going to be
<v Speaker 1>too expensive for a lot of people and Nintendo will
<v Speaker 1>have to correct the price because I'm I don't think
<v Speaker 1>it's that either.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, I think it's more of that than a we use.
<v Speaker 1>Well, it's more obviously it's closer to that, yes, but
<v Speaker 1>I don't even think it's pretty situation.
<v Speaker 2>So do you think it's in its own I think
<v Speaker 2>I think this is just like.
<v Speaker 1>Them finding the right price for the regardless of how we.
<v Speaker 2>Feel about it, Like it's because of outside factors and
<v Speaker 2>things like that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and everything else has gone up in price, so
<v Speaker 1>it's like like one more thing being expensive. It's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it sucks and we hate it and it and like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, the reason people do get angry is because
<v Speaker 1>video games are a price sensitive market, like and that
<v Speaker 1>just means people are aware of what things have costs,
<v Speaker 1>will have costed in the past, and what they should
<v Speaker 1>cost and and so when stuff goes up, everyone who
<v Speaker 1>normally interacts with the marketplace to buy these things knows
<v Speaker 1>like notices when a price goes up, and it's like
<v Speaker 1>yep and so, and they've already sort of subconsciously noticed
<v Speaker 1>everything else growing up in their life that they're less
<v Speaker 1>sensitive to. So then all of the anger gets funneled
<v Speaker 1>on to the thing that they're very aware of what
<v Speaker 1>this should cost. So but like, I still think overall
<v Speaker 1>that NT it will be able to push through this
<v Speaker 1>and if as long as they're offering up like very
<v Speaker 1>exciting games. I think people are gonna probably show up it.
<v Speaker 1>I think if it's a three D S scenario, it's
<v Speaker 1>not as extreme three DS, Like it doesn't go down
<v Speaker 1>like what was the three DS like three fifty.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I went down to two fifty to go down
<v Speaker 2>the hook bucks.
<v Speaker 1>I think it went like almost down there, like two twenty.
<v Speaker 1>I thought like it went down like mon Baby or
<v Speaker 1>something like that. Maybe, So I think this goes down,
<v Speaker 1>it goes down fifty bucks and it goes down fifty
<v Speaker 1>bucks next year or something like that.
<v Speaker 2>But even or or they just they just make the
<v Speaker 2>four to forty nine model the only one and it
<v Speaker 2>comes with Mario Kart Just.
<v Speaker 1>Then that's oooh, that's a good move. Okay, yeah, that's
<v Speaker 1>that's what that thing they would do.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, they just eliminate the one that doesn't come
<v Speaker 2>with the games four forty nine with Mario Kart. Off.
<v Speaker 1>You go, yep, that's that's the move. You're right, good, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think you nailed it.
<v Speaker 3>That.
<v Speaker 1>If that's if they need to pull that lever, that's
<v Speaker 1>the lever they would pull. And then uh, I saw
<v Speaker 1>a Marino chats like Snickley if even if tariffs went
<v Speaker 1>away completely, if all these tariffs went away, they would
<v Speaker 1>probably try to keep this price absolutely. That's that's the
<v Speaker 1>thing we should we should get at. Is for as
<v Speaker 1>much as the environment is is the factor here. These
<v Speaker 1>companies always want to charge as much as they possibly can.
<v Speaker 1>They want to get a way with as much as
<v Speaker 1>they possibly can. That's the way the whole system is
<v Speaker 1>set up. So again, I can only get so bad
<v Speaker 1>because they're like, that's what you're supposed to do when
<v Speaker 1>you have a company, charge as much as you can
<v Speaker 1>get away with. But if they if we get past
<v Speaker 1>all this and the tariffs get repealed, these companies are
<v Speaker 1>looking for their moment to raise the price. Like that's
<v Speaker 1>what happened with GPUs over the last ten years. And
<v Speaker 1>we talk about like mid price GPUs being five hundred,
<v Speaker 1>six hundred dollars. Now that's crazy, you know. In twenty fourteen,
<v Speaker 1>a mid price really awesome GPU was two hundred dollars,
<v Speaker 1>two hundred and fifty dollars. And then every generation after that,
<v Speaker 1>they were like, I think we can raise the price again.
<v Speaker 1>Let's go for it. I think we can raise the
<v Speaker 1>price again. And they were right, they were right, and
<v Speaker 1>they were right, and they were right until they weren't.
<v Speaker 1>And then even then, it's not like they retracted prices
<v Speaker 1>all that much. And sure AMD would show up with
<v Speaker 1>an alternative that's a little bit less expensive compared to
<v Speaker 1>the current generation, but it's still super expensive compared to
<v Speaker 1>something two three years ago. So it's they any opportunity
<v Speaker 1>to raise the price. These companies will take it. This
<v Speaker 1>is an opportunity to set a new standard, and I
<v Speaker 1>think Nintendo is taking it, and everyone else in the
<v Speaker 1>industry now is looking at Nintendo doing it as an
<v Speaker 1>opportunity for them to do it. So it's just gonna
<v Speaker 1>snowball now. And I you know, what do you think,
<v Speaker 1>like it's Intergalactic going to be seventy dollars, that's going
<v Speaker 1>to be eighty. It's not even out. It's not like
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty seven, like that's gonna be eighty dollars.
<v Speaker 2>Well, by then I think seventy nine ninety nine will
<v Speaker 2>be established. Yeah, right, loss where the band Aid's off fellas, Sorry,
<v Speaker 2>ladies and Jens, the band aid is off. Pandora's box
<v Speaker 2>is open. We are paying eighty dollars from now on.
<v Speaker 2>Now again, if if Nintendo is doing this, some of
<v Speaker 2>them are some of them aren't? Could that? The problem
<v Speaker 2>is if you're going to charge okay, so let me
<v Speaker 2>ask you this, what is the switch to Zelda going
<v Speaker 2>to cost?
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I do that eighty?
<v Speaker 2>Or is that more?
<v Speaker 1>I think that's probably that's eighty. I think I think
<v Speaker 1>I would really like to know what the card size
<v Speaker 1>is for Mario Kart eight or Mario Kart World. Excuse me,
<v Speaker 1>compared to a Donkey Kong Bonanza. Donkey Kong Bananza is seventy,
<v Speaker 1>then Mario Kart World is eighty. Like what's the difference
<v Speaker 1>there is?
<v Speaker 2>Like?
<v Speaker 1>Are there so they're different in quality? Doesn't seem like
<v Speaker 1>it is it?
<v Speaker 2>Like?
<v Speaker 1>Are you trying to tell us this is no? Oh?
<v Speaker 1>Is the card just actually bigger? And that's the reason
<v Speaker 1>the reason I'm skeptical about that is because all of
<v Speaker 1>those Nintendo Switch games that are getting upgrades, they're seventy dollars.
<v Speaker 1>They're like, they're they're not all of them are going
<v Speaker 1>to up to eighty, right.
<v Speaker 2>It's not some of them, I think, I think, which
<v Speaker 2>is examte Breath of the Wild seventy cheers the Kingdom's eighty.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, yeah right, Like okay, well that's because Mike told
<v Speaker 1>me this one yesterday. That's because Breath of the Wild
<v Speaker 1>is sixty dollars and Tiers the Kingdom is seventy dollars,
<v Speaker 1>so getting a ten dollars increase, okay, So yeah, some
<v Speaker 1>of them are like it is Tiers the Kingdom being eighty.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, okay, I get what you're saying. That's a
<v Speaker 1>ten dollars increase, but still that's just eighty dollars for
<v Speaker 1>a switch to version of Tiers of the Kingdom. And
<v Speaker 1>I know that game is not on the big, heavy,
<v Speaker 1>new more storage game card for the switch to, but
<v Speaker 1>that's just eighty because it's got extra stuff. So I
<v Speaker 1>don't know if it's just always going to be about
<v Speaker 1>the card size. I get that that is a thing
<v Speaker 1>that we could tell ourselves, like this is the reason
<v Speaker 1>this is happening. I just think Nintendo is looking to
<v Speaker 1>kind of have options in the market. So they're like,
<v Speaker 1>let's donkey kunng bananas. It's seventy's Mario Kart. We know
<v Speaker 1>is going to sell. No, Matt, people cannot resist it.
<v Speaker 1>They have never been able to resist it, even like
<v Speaker 1>you know, on the Wii it sold fifty million copies
<v Speaker 1>on the switch. It sold fifty to sixty million copies.
<v Speaker 1>It's probably going to sell at least thirty five million copies.
<v Speaker 1>And if it gets if it takes a hit because
<v Speaker 1>it's a higher price, thirty five million people are still
<v Speaker 1>going to buy it at that higher price. And then
<v Speaker 1>if we need to discount it at that point, we
<v Speaker 1>still have that option to reach the rest of those
<v Speaker 1>fifteen million people that we left on the table at
<v Speaker 1>that point. I mean, I just think that there's no
<v Speaker 1>way around all this. It's so one last hypothetical for you.
<v Speaker 1>One last hypothetical that I think is going to be
<v Speaker 1>a little more relevant by the end of the year.
<v Speaker 1>The next three D Mario adventure. Yeah, because you have
<v Speaker 1>a three D adventure in Donkey Kong that is seventy,
<v Speaker 1>but you have a Mario game that is eighty. So
<v Speaker 1>they I think they like play this out over the
<v Speaker 1>next year and they look at the numbers, and then
<v Speaker 1>I think they make a final decision about like, like,
<v Speaker 1>how frequently can we drop the eighty dollars new game?
<v Speaker 1>And I think if Mario Kart meets a certain threshold,
<v Speaker 1>the next Mario could easily be eighty dollars.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yep, a quick clarification of sanging you guys really
<v Speaker 3>wondering about. So there are eighty dollars retail. Yeah yeah,
<v Speaker 3>voice of God, Hello, what's up?
<v Speaker 1>Thank you?
<v Speaker 3>There are eighty dollars switch to versions of last ten games,
<v Speaker 3>because the retail bundle is the switch one game and
<v Speaker 3>the switch to upgrade in the retail box, right, So
<v Speaker 3>you are paying that's sixty dollars plus if it's a
<v Speaker 3>twenty dollars upgrade that's included in the MSRP for the
<v Speaker 3>what they're branding as the switch to version of it
<v Speaker 3>at retail. Okay, so he gets seventy dollars and eighty
<v Speaker 3>dollars respectively for versions of those games flight Heres of
<v Speaker 3>the Kingdom being eighty Also, for some of you guys
<v Speaker 3>were looking at earlier. I checked it and they did
<v Speaker 3>say that the Mario Kart Bundle is limited qualities available
<v Speaker 3>through the fall. It's while supplies less, is how they
<v Speaker 3>are branding that.
<v Speaker 2>So that's like a launch bundle. Interesting and so a
<v Speaker 2>launch bundle and then it'll be for so is basically
<v Speaker 2>what we said, just in reverse. The bundle will go
<v Speaker 2>away and it'll be four forty nine without a game.
<v Speaker 1>Well I'll see. I'll believe it when I see that
<v Speaker 1>the bundle. They just always had a Mario Kart bundle
<v Speaker 1>throughout the entirety of the Switch one.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, I think that, you.
<v Speaker 1>Know, but they I think they'll play around like they
<v Speaker 1>do that, so they do have the option of what
<v Speaker 1>you said. It's like maybe at that point, if things
<v Speaker 1>aren't going well, they bundle in Mario Kart with the
<v Speaker 1>four to fifty version that can be their Ambassador program equivalent,
<v Speaker 1>something a little like the diet version of that, or
<v Speaker 1>they if it goes well enough, they just say, okay,
<v Speaker 1>now the Mario Kart bundle is back at five hundred
<v Speaker 1>dollars and now it's got different colored joy Contwo whatever.
<v Speaker 1>I think they've given themselves options here to kind of
<v Speaker 1>play the field as we sort of react to what
<v Speaker 1>they're doing. And I think at this moment, people yelling
<v Speaker 1>at them it's going to have an effect. People should
<v Speaker 1>yell at these companies because I do think most people
<v Speaker 1>are gonna end up showing up to buy this thing
<v Speaker 1>and voting with your wallet. I always tell people it's
<v Speaker 1>not as effective as you think, Like, first of all,
<v Speaker 1>you shouldn't have to you shouldn't have to like make
<v Speaker 1>decisions using money or try to influence companies making money.
<v Speaker 1>It's an unfair thing. You don't really have a lot
<v Speaker 1>of leverage there as much as you think you do.
<v Speaker 1>And then yelling at them actually does occasionally make them
<v Speaker 1>feel a little ashamed, and they hate having that bad press.
<v Speaker 1>They really do, So keep yelling at them. Maybe it'll work.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see. All right, Let's take a quick break. When
<v Speaker 1>we come back. We got more switch to details to
<v Speaker 1>talk about, and what is going on in the UK
<v Speaker 1>with their most influential game. We'll get to that right
<v Speaker 1>after this. All right, we are back at it with
<v Speaker 1>game breaking news. Jeff Grubb, Jason Finelli. Let's do the
<v Speaker 1>next story here. Nintendo confirms switch to uses DLSS and
<v Speaker 1>ray tracing, but as being super vague about the details.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Wesley yan Plitt. Ign Nintendo has confirmed
<v Speaker 1>the switch to uses DLSS and raytracing technology, but has
<v Speaker 1>yet to go into detail on how exactly or even
<v Speaker 1>to show them off. Nvidia DLSS, which is deep learning
<v Speaker 1>super sampling, is an AI power technology that uses machine
<v Speaker 1>learning to upscale lower resolution images in real time, enhancing
<v Speaker 1>both performance and image quality. In games. Basically, it's a
<v Speaker 1>image reconstruction like program. This week's hour long Nintendo Director
<v Speaker 1>revealed much about the four hundred and fifty dollars switch To,
<v Speaker 1>but Nintendo has kept technical information to a minimum. Even
<v Speaker 1>in the official Nintendo Switch To tech specs, there is
<v Speaker 1>only confirmation that the console uses a custom processor made
<v Speaker 1>by Nvidia and no more detail. In a hardware focused
<v Speaker 1>roundtable Q and A in New York yesterday attended by IGN,
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo representatives confirmed that the switch To uses DLSS, but
<v Speaker 1>did not specify which version of the tech or whether
<v Speaker 1>it had been customized for switch To. Takuhiro Deta, senior
<v Speaker 1>director of the Programming Management Group, Entertainment Planning and Development
<v Speaker 1>in Development Department at Nintendo Entertaining, Entertainment, Planning and Development
<v Speaker 1>Division WOOF, confirmed, we use DLSS up scaling technology and
<v Speaker 1>that's something that we need to use as we develop games.
<v Speaker 1>And when it comes to the hardware, it is able
<v Speaker 1>to output TV at a max of four K. Whether
<v Speaker 1>the software developer is going to use that as a
<v Speaker 1>native resolution or get it upscaled from something else is
<v Speaker 1>up to them they can choose. Basically, I think it
<v Speaker 1>opens up a lot of options for the develop software
<v Speaker 1>developer to choose from. They did not go on to confirm, like, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>what even is the Invidio GPU in there. We've had
<v Speaker 1>some weeks about this in the past. We'll get I'm
<v Speaker 1>sure more details, especially like once Digital Foundery gets their
<v Speaker 1>hands on this or whatever, and I'm sure a lot
<v Speaker 1>of other tech YouTubers will do that. But yeah, what
<v Speaker 1>do you think, Jason?
<v Speaker 2>So, if I can interrupt you real quick, while we
<v Speaker 2>were preparing this show, I meant to put this in
<v Speaker 2>the chat and then forgot to do so. In Vidia
<v Speaker 2>put out a press release saying that it is their
<v Speaker 2>AI powered DLSS and four K gaming. I have it
<v Speaker 2>front of me. I can read it through you.
<v Speaker 1>My Nintendo is not talking about it in video gets
<v Speaker 1>to do this all right? Go ahead? Please?
<v Speaker 2>Yes. The Nintendo switch to on Velida a pral second
<v Speaker 2>takes performance to the next level, powered by a custom
<v Speaker 2>and video processor featuring Nvidia GPU with dedicated RT cores
<v Speaker 2>and tensor cores for stunning visuals and AI driven enhancements.
<v Speaker 2>Let's see the new RT cores being real time rate racing,
<v Speaker 2>lifelike lighting reflections and shadows. Tensor cores power AI driven
<v Speaker 2>features like deep learning, super sampling DLSS, boosting resolution for
<v Speaker 2>sharper details without sacrificing image quality. Tensor cores also enable
<v Speaker 2>AI powered face tracking and background removal, and video chat
<v Speaker 2>use cases enhancing social gaming and streaming thank you and
<v Speaker 2>video for game chat. That's what I'm hearing there. With
<v Speaker 2>ten times the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch ten
<v Speaker 2>times well the Nintendo Switch to delivers smoother gameplay and
<v Speaker 2>smarter visual sharper visuals. Tensor cores boost apowered graphics while
<v Speaker 2>keeping power consumption efficient. RT cores enhance in game realism
<v Speaker 2>with dynamic lighting and natural reflections v r R via
<v Speaker 2>Nvidia g Sync in handheld modes ensures ultra smooth, tear
<v Speaker 2>free gameplay. So there you go. That came out at
<v Speaker 2>about eleven thirty and we were getting ready at noon.
<v Speaker 1>Still it's kind of like specific details, but yeah, just
<v Speaker 1>kind of come out there and reminding everybody that this
<v Speaker 1>is going to use a lot of in Vidia tech
<v Speaker 1>and video was super involved. Is Yeah, that's good to know. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>Tensor cores basically that's the thing that actually runs DLSS
<v Speaker 1>RT course, our rate tracing course. That's the things that
<v Speaker 1>actually calculate the ray tracing in games and having specified
<v Speaker 1>hardware specifically for these tasks really is important. At this point.
<v Speaker 1>You kind of can't just use generic traditional compute cores
<v Speaker 1>to do these things. It's super slow. I remember when
<v Speaker 1>we first got the tensor course and the ray tracing
<v Speaker 1>course and comparing it to like the ten generation like
<v Speaker 1>the ten eighty TI or whatever, which was a great,
<v Speaker 1>great GPU, but it just really could not handle ray
<v Speaker 1>tracing at all because it just was not made for that.
<v Speaker 1>So this is going to be interesting to see, Like,
<v Speaker 1>really ray tracing on switch to games. Is that something
<v Speaker 1>that is going to be common? I still doubt it,
<v Speaker 1>but you know, ray traced shadows, ray traced ambient occlusion,
<v Speaker 1>which is like when you have light bouncing between two
<v Speaker 1>surfaces and like a corner, to like have the light
<v Speaker 1>sort of dissipate as you get further into that corner
<v Speaker 1>really does make things look a lot more lifelike. It's
<v Speaker 1>really crucially important to just like subtly improving image quality.
<v Speaker 1>You could do that with ray tracing that's not too intense,
<v Speaker 1>but like real time like dynamic global illumination, it's probably
<v Speaker 1>gonna be pretty rare on the switch to which you know,
<v Speaker 1>that's that's fine. Baked lighting has been good for forever.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's what most people say when they see
<v Speaker 1>when they turn on ray tracing, like it looks I
<v Speaker 1>guess a little bit better, but boy it runs like
<v Speaker 1>shit now, so I'm gonna turn this off. I think
<v Speaker 1>in this case that like they'll use it judiciously, sparingly,
<v Speaker 1>and I don't. I was never really expecting much ray
<v Speaker 1>tracing on the switch to, so that will not be
<v Speaker 1>missed really, And then the DLSS stuff, that's promising because
<v Speaker 1>I think all the improvements then in video's made to that,
<v Speaker 1>you know, with the keeping in mind that in Vidio
<v Speaker 1>likely provided a much older sort of base GPU for
<v Speaker 1>the switch to because Tintito likes to use the older technology.
<v Speaker 1>But still they could have they customized the chip. They
<v Speaker 1>could put custom tensor cores in there. Having that in
<v Speaker 1>there and making sure that these games can render at
<v Speaker 1>seven to twenty or even five forty and upscale to
<v Speaker 1>ten eighty and then up or Upskelter fourteen forty or
<v Speaker 1>upscalt four k. That's that's good, that's exciting. And we
<v Speaker 1>saw like there the Treous was streaming Metroid Prime four
<v Speaker 1>beyond in four K today, and boy, it looked really good.
<v Speaker 1>It actually looks like it's weird how good these games
<v Speaker 1>look on switch to. I guess I wasn't even expecting that.
<v Speaker 2>I think that's the game Metroid Prime four that they're
<v Speaker 2>going to use as the early benchmark for that sort
<v Speaker 2>of visual fidelity, just because based on that stream, like
<v Speaker 2>you were saying, how insane it is looking even in
<v Speaker 2>the four K stream of the direct yesterday, there was
<v Speaker 2>some really good looking gameplay from Metroid Prime when it
<v Speaker 2>was up there. I'm genuinely curious about games like the
<v Speaker 2>new Mario. I keep going to the new three D Mario,
<v Speaker 2>that could also be a very impressive looking game. I
<v Speaker 2>go back to the remember when Sunshine came out on
<v Speaker 2>the GameCube and how absolutely floored everybody was about how
<v Speaker 2>looked yes back then, and that game I would argue,
<v Speaker 2>not completely, of course, but it holds up like it's
<v Speaker 2>not It's obviously it's not meeting the four K of today,
<v Speaker 2>but that game still visually for what it was at
<v Speaker 2>the time, holds up. And I think the New Mario
<v Speaker 2>now on switch to could be another evolution of that. Honestly,
<v Speaker 2>they got a lot of GameCube vibes from this whole thing.
<v Speaker 2>A lot of that GameCube era vibe from this entire
<v Speaker 2>switch to thing. But that's another story. But as far
<v Speaker 2>as like the visual fidelity and the DLSSYS concert is exciting,
<v Speaker 2>it's something I think that's that I'm glad to hear
<v Speaker 2>those words associated with Nintendo finally, especially four K, twenty
<v Speaker 2>frames per second things like that. Whether or not every
<v Speaker 2>game will use them on the switch to remains to
<v Speaker 2>be seen. But as long as the first party one
<v Speaker 2>does horse party games do the places that we've not
<v Speaker 2>seen this sort of tech before, I think, you know,
<v Speaker 2>I think it'll work out pretty well for them.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I'm excited because I think Nintendo will
<v Speaker 1>use this stuff in a relatively wise way where it's
<v Speaker 1>they're not going to try to go all out with
<v Speaker 1>four K native assets, but the fact that they can
<v Speaker 1>continue making games maybe get at relatively the same a
<v Speaker 1>fidelity as they were doing on the switch one, but
<v Speaker 1>now have a ton of over excuse me, overhead left
<v Speaker 1>over for extra animations and realistic physics and things like that.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I think that's what we're seeing in Mario
<v Speaker 1>Kart World where or you know, even Donkey Kong Bonanza
<v Speaker 1>or these games look you know, like an HD Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>game since like the WAU because it's really art focused first,
<v Speaker 1>and then yeah, it looks great. And then of course
<v Speaker 1>like when it is when you do see it in
<v Speaker 1>four K, it looks stunning for sure, but it doesn't
<v Speaker 1>look like it completely a generational leap from one system
<v Speaker 1>to the other in terms of just like a still image.
<v Speaker 1>But once it goes in motion, all that extra animation
<v Speaker 1>flavor really does make it stand out. And that's where
<v Speaker 1>I want them to focus. I think that is the
<v Speaker 1>best place for them to be in terms of making
<v Speaker 1>their games look better. It's like, just make them more lifelike.
<v Speaker 1>Give Donkey Kong's booty some jiggle, Like, let's see what
<v Speaker 1>that thing can do.
<v Speaker 2>The eyes popping out from the hole that the expressions
<v Speaker 2>on his face were probably the thing I keep remembering
<v Speaker 2>from that trailer, just how expressive his whole his whole
<v Speaker 2>head is morphine every time he reacts. That if they
<v Speaker 2>can do stuff like that across their entire portfolio, yet,
<v Speaker 2>they'll being good.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's let's keep going. Game spot shows coming
<v Speaker 1>up soon, so let's try to get this ready for them. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>switch to could fix two of the biggest issues on
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo E Shop. This is from Darren Bonthus at
<v Speaker 1>game Spot. When the switch to launches in June, longtime
<v Speaker 1>users could see two major improvements to the Nintendo E Shop.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo is aiming to address complaints of its digital storefront,
<v Speaker 1>which has long been criticized for being slow to navigate
<v Speaker 1>through and for being populated with cheap, shovelwear titles that
<v Speaker 1>often use underhanded methods to stand out, and a developer
<v Speaker 1>round table. Nintendo confirmed that the E Shop will benefit
<v Speaker 1>from performance upgrades and that a new future on the
<v Speaker 1>store will make finding games easier for users. Tacoh Hero Doda,
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo's senior director of Entertainment Planning and Development, explain it
<v Speaker 1>in a Nintendo post how the switch to hardware will
<v Speaker 1>make exploring the E Shop faster and smoother thanks to
<v Speaker 1>the system's performance capabilities. That's, you know, I think that's
<v Speaker 1>kind of expected it should be faster, but them kind
<v Speaker 1>of being aware of it and being like, we're going
<v Speaker 1>to make it faster at least out of the gate.
<v Speaker 1>That's welcome, welcome news for me. I hope that five
<v Speaker 1>years from now we're not back in the same situation
<v Speaker 1>where it's like they've added a ton of craft and
<v Speaker 1>didn't keep up with maintaining it, and now it runs
<v Speaker 1>like crap again, which is what happened with the Switch one,
<v Speaker 1>because the Switch one shop at launch ran fantastic because
<v Speaker 1>especially especially compared to the Weu E Shop, which was
<v Speaker 1>a nightmare to use, took forever. For discoverability, Producer for
<v Speaker 1>Entertainment and Planning and Development, Koyuichi Kawamoto briefly spoke about
<v Speaker 1>the games find Game Finds for You feature that allows
<v Speaker 1>users to see screenshots and videos for games. With this feature,
<v Speaker 1>I think players will be able to easily find something
<v Speaker 1>interesting without having to search every nook and cranny of
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo E Shop, So they're doing a little bit
<v Speaker 1>for discoverability. I don't know if this is like a
<v Speaker 1>you know, how Steam you get the curated thing that's
<v Speaker 1>just like, hey, here's your fines for you because of
<v Speaker 1>the games you play in the games you've bought, you've
<v Speaker 1>purchased previously. I don't know if that's what they're saying,
<v Speaker 1>but it sounds like something along those lines. Maybe at
<v Speaker 1>the very least the fact that they even are mentioning
<v Speaker 1>discoverability is better than what was happening with the shop
<v Speaker 1>on the Switch. You think that this is going to
<v Speaker 1>be a market improvement.
<v Speaker 2>I hope so, because right now the switch E shop,
<v Speaker 2>I can't let my kids browse on their own. I
<v Speaker 2>have to make sure that they're not seeing anything they're
<v Speaker 2>not supposed to see. It's the lack of curation.
<v Speaker 1>Is a sonic game.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, nobody wants that.
<v Speaker 1>Keep that out.
<v Speaker 2>They could, they could run a balance wonder world, Like.
<v Speaker 2>I can't put that on my conscience, but I hope.
<v Speaker 2>I hope it works, I really do. But this the
<v Speaker 2>game finds for You. It says game finds for You
<v Speaker 2>feature that allows users to three screenshots and videos. Freaking
<v Speaker 2>I saw that on one of my eyes, Like, great,
<v Speaker 2>so you're gonna put more screenshots and videos on the
<v Speaker 2>games that I have to search for still myself.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, every game has a screenshot from Hittie Golf. Now
<v Speaker 1>let's go.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so right, and then are they going to be censored?
<v Speaker 2>Are they going to be curated? Is it going to
<v Speaker 2>get worse? I don't know. I jury's still out, I think,
<v Speaker 2>But again, the fact that they're even talking about it cool, yep.
<v Speaker 1>Sure, yep, I'm hopeful switch to his surprise mini game
<v Speaker 1>collection includes Guess the Frame Rate and Mario Brosfark from
<v Speaker 1>Chris Scullion at VGC. I'm sorry, this one really is
<v Speaker 1>gonna send me continuously every time I think about it.
<v Speaker 1>This is the digital brochure that they showed off during
<v Speaker 1>the direct that's like here, like go to this part
<v Speaker 1>of the joy kind to learn what it can do,
<v Speaker 1>and like learn what the magnets are and learn about
<v Speaker 1>HD Rumble two and they have a Guess the Frame
<v Speaker 1>Rate game. Honestly, it looks like that scene from Vegas
<v Speaker 1>Vacation where he goes into the really shitty casino and
<v Speaker 1>they're like, guess the number between one through ten or
<v Speaker 1>which hand is the money in? And he's play. He's like, oh, War,
<v Speaker 1>I love War. It's it reminds me of that, Like
<v Speaker 1>this is the cheap Vegas casino compared to like PlayStation's Astrobot,
<v Speaker 1>which hums included with or Astro's Playroom, which comes included
<v Speaker 1>with the PS five for free. We did like get
<v Speaker 1>maybe a little bit of pricing information about this. It's
<v Speaker 1>nine hundred and ninety yen in Japan. You could maybe
<v Speaker 1>say that means it's going to be around ten dollars
<v Speaker 1>if you if you translate that to USD right now,
<v Speaker 1>it's closer like six dollars, So it could be anywhere
<v Speaker 1>from five to ten dollars. All right, at least it's
<v Speaker 1>not eighty, but it should be. It should just be included.
<v Speaker 1>This is nuts. I continued, like they showed more of
<v Speaker 1>it in the playoff stream today. I continue to think
<v Speaker 1>it looks kind of bad.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's uh, honestly, it's part for the course. We
<v Speaker 2>talked about how it shouldn't be priced, it should be free,
<v Speaker 2>but it's part for the course. With everything else on
<v Speaker 2>switch to if you want to switch to edition, you
<v Speaker 2>have you have to get the ten dollars upgrade pack
<v Speaker 2>to get the right tutorial. So that's what this is.
<v Speaker 2>It's a welcome toy. It's just showing you how to.
<v Speaker 2>I love how it's like this is yeah, this is
<v Speaker 2>where the magnets are, this is how, this is the
<v Speaker 2>mouse function I show. I showed the direct to my kids, yes,
<v Speaker 2>and the older one was like, do they think people
<v Speaker 2>not know how this works? Huh? And I'm like, maybe
<v Speaker 2>they don't. Maybe they think we're all dumb. I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>but yeah, that did not inenthuce her at all. It
<v Speaker 2>is I'm again, I can't complain too much because I'm
<v Speaker 2>a sucker and I'm just gonna do it for the memes.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm probably gonna get it too.
<v Speaker 2>If it's ten bucks, I'm going to drop it just
<v Speaker 2>to be like, what the hell do they think this
<v Speaker 2>is worth ten bucks for?
<v Speaker 1>At a certain point, I am the kind of sucker
<v Speaker 1>that's like, well, I'm already spending five hundred dollars, Like
<v Speaker 1>what is another ten dollars? But honestly, I'm probably gonna
<v Speaker 1>be like, well, man, I'm already spending five hundred dollars.
<v Speaker 1>I should really make this thing worth it by getting
<v Speaker 1>another like seventy dollars game. Let's get some third party games,
<v Speaker 1>Let's get Madden, Let's and then let's get this thing
<v Speaker 1>as well in teleg anothery're ten dollars on top, just
<v Speaker 1>throw it on the pile. At that point, that's the
<v Speaker 1>sucker I am. So I'm gonna end up getting this
<v Speaker 1>thing that I have said nothing nice about so far.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what's wrong with me. Everything, I mean,
<v Speaker 1>maybe wrong.
<v Speaker 2>With I have four words and the voice of God
<v Speaker 2>will agree with me. Street Fighter six a mebo and
<v Speaker 2>that's just like that was targeted at me specifically.
<v Speaker 1>Yep.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, I mean I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna
<v Speaker 2>I want to see the Mario fog war effects whatever
<v Speaker 2>the hell that is.
<v Speaker 1>But great, Yeah, we're right now. Thanks to VGC, we're
<v Speaker 1>watching their Nintendo switch to Welcome to Our gameplay video
<v Speaker 1>that's up on YouTube. People should go check it out.
<v Speaker 1>And Andy here is playing the guests the frame rate
<v Speaker 1>game or he was a second ago, and it's just
<v Speaker 1>like there are gifts that are, like, you know, fifteen
<v Speaker 1>years old, showing the difference between like thirty frames per
<v Speaker 1>second and sixty frames per second, and it's just that.
<v Speaker 1>But now you get to like guess which one is
<v Speaker 1>thirty and which one sixty. That's all it is. It
<v Speaker 1>is like kind of the bare minimum. Now, I like,
<v Speaker 1>I like this idea of Super Mario Brothers four K,
<v Speaker 1>like one to one where it's showing you what it's
<v Speaker 1>like if you were to stretch the pixels across the
<v Speaker 1>entirety of a four K screen to show how the
<v Speaker 1>entire level will fit in there. Like Okay, that's neat,
<v Speaker 1>but that is also just so obviously tech demo included
<v Speaker 1>in the system. Bullshit. Yeah, I get why people hate
<v Speaker 1>this goddamn company. I really do.
<v Speaker 2>All right, they are super weird, aren't they.
<v Speaker 1>They're super weird. Absolutely. A parana Plant version of the
<v Speaker 1>Switch two camera will be available at launch. I might
<v Speaker 1>get this one too.
<v Speaker 2>It's awesome.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it looks really cute. It's a mouth opens, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>mouth opens and then you can see the camera. Can
<v Speaker 1>you close it so like when you want the camera hidden,
<v Speaker 1>like actually shutters see if people can't see.
<v Speaker 3>I know.
<v Speaker 2>Oh no, that's a good question. I'm not sure.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see. According to the retailer, the Piranha Plant camera
<v Speaker 1>is priced at forty euro, which is twenty twenty year
<v Speaker 1>o cheaper than Nintendo's official switch to camera. This one's
<v Speaker 1>from Hoary, so I bet it's worse quality, and you
<v Speaker 1>can plug any USB camera into the switch too. For
<v Speaker 1>the most part, it's got a USB C port on top,
<v Speaker 1>so you're probably gonna want one that can plug into that.
<v Speaker 1>I'm sure you can get an adapter to make just
<v Speaker 1>about anything work. But yeah, forty bucks for like a
<v Speaker 1>five forty p camera from Horry that looks like a
<v Speaker 1>Piranha plant. We'll see. I probably am only going to
<v Speaker 1>use this camera four to five times throughout the life
<v Speaker 1>of the switch to occasionally for content maybe and then
<v Speaker 1>maybe one time with the family that's up in Michigan
<v Speaker 1>or whatever. We'll see.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, my purchase of the camera
<v Speaker 2>is directly related to how many of my friends also
<v Speaker 2>get to switch too. I mean, that's it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And people like Sewan and Marine are saying Hoory's
<v Speaker 1>honestly forty erroo doesn't mean it's gonna be worse. Hory
<v Speaker 1>makes better stuff. So maybe the Nintendo Camra will be
<v Speaker 1>five to forty p and this one will be seven
<v Speaker 1>twenty or ten eighty, and they're just charging the right
<v Speaker 1>price for that stuff because Horry does source quality components.
<v Speaker 1>All right, last story here, and then we got to
<v Speaker 1>wrap up. Batha announces the most influential video game of
<v Speaker 1>all time, and it's a real head scratcher. This is
<v Speaker 1>from Vicky Blake at IGN. I'm just gonna go here.
<v Speaker 1>Let's go through the list. I'm gonna start here with one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, twenty.
<v Speaker 2>One, ten.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna start with the ten. Number. Ten is the
<v Speaker 1>sims than Half Life two then and I'm going up everybody,
<v Speaker 1>so Super Mario sixty four is more relevant, and then
<v Speaker 1>above Super Mari sixty four as the most influential game
<v Speaker 1>of all time? Is Kingdom Come Deliverance to Now's a
<v Speaker 1>good time to point out that this was a fan
<v Speaker 1>vote and people are just voting their feelings apparently, then Minecraft,
<v Speaker 1>then Ockery enough Time, then Half Life, Super Mario Brothers
<v Speaker 1>number three above that number two is Doom. This list
<v Speaker 1>sounding pretty decent other than obviously the one weird one
<v Speaker 1>that people are just playing in the moment. Number one
<v Speaker 1>shin MoU, what are you talking about? Okay, but I
<v Speaker 1>will get you, I will give you. It's influential. Sure,
<v Speaker 1>it's not even one of the top twenty most influential games.
<v Speaker 1>It's got like some elements that really people can look
<v Speaker 1>back to be like, this is stuff that we would
<v Speaker 1>really figure out later. But shinmu at number one above Doom,
<v Speaker 1>above Super Mario Brothers.
<v Speaker 2>Bafta more like Dafta. Am I right? Jeez, Louise, this
<v Speaker 2>this list is weird. It's a weird metal gi oh
<v Speaker 2>and you went to you went down to ten. I'm
<v Speaker 2>gonna go to eleven.
<v Speaker 1>Tetris Yeah, Jesus Christ, Tetris it there? Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Final Final Fantasy seven is there? Yeah, and the first one.
<v Speaker 2>There's two great their photos on there.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's happening all right. The UK as always smoking something.
<v Speaker 1>I love you all over there. You guys keep doing
<v Speaker 1>your thing. Uh, someone bring me all of the UK
<v Speaker 1>shin move fans. I want to talk to you. I
<v Speaker 1>want to see what you guys are all thinking. All right,
<v Speaker 1>that does it for the headlines we have. Let's see
<v Speaker 1>here somewhere I'm gonn close this Andy Robinson video. The
<v Speaker 1>giant Bomb pulls from the last couple of days. There
<v Speaker 1>we go, okay, great, the switch to direct and uh,
<v Speaker 1>let's see. Do you think we get Final Fantasy nine
<v Speaker 1>remake for the game's twenty fifth anniversary this year? We
<v Speaker 1>asked that we didn't. We didn't never answer that one.
<v Speaker 1>I voted yes, and so did forty three percent of
<v Speaker 1>respond It's fifty seven percent of people still doubt we're
<v Speaker 1>getting Final Fantasy nine remake this year, which they haven't
<v Speaker 1>mentioned anything, so I don't blame people. But it was
<v Speaker 1>in that Nvidia league, so I'm hopeful. How about you?
<v Speaker 2>Jason seems like something that would be announced in the
<v Speaker 2>June SGF timeframe to be released towards the end of
<v Speaker 2>the year, if not winter twenty twenty six, because I
<v Speaker 2>imagine they're treating it as a twenty fifth anniversary fiscal celebration,
<v Speaker 2>though that could include the beginning of twenty twenty six
<v Speaker 2>as well. But yes, I think I've got a guess
<v Speaker 2>as well, and.
<v Speaker 1>They could announce it for the twenty fifth anniversary and
<v Speaker 1>release it next year, right, that's the kind of thing
<v Speaker 1>they could easily do. Yees, yeah, and make that makes
<v Speaker 1>sense great? The switch to direct, I I'm just gonna
<v Speaker 1>go with the B. That is how I had plenty
<v Speaker 1>of games that I was super interested in. Oh, I
<v Speaker 1>didn't let me refresh here because I think we got
<v Speaker 1>some votes. I only posted this like of an hour ago. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>most people were at the B forty five percent, seventeen
<v Speaker 1>percent or C, eight percent or D or lower, and
<v Speaker 1>thirty percent gave it an A. And that's you know,
<v Speaker 1>eight hundred and sixty votes, so we're still kind of early.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said, I posted this about an hour ago. Jason,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know when I when I see this and
<v Speaker 1>then I see the chat saying drop the price. I
<v Speaker 1>do think there's going to be a disconnect here. I
<v Speaker 1>think there are a lot of people who are like, God,
<v Speaker 1>I've been waiting for a switch to that pent up
<v Speaker 1>demand makes it so I'm not even really feeling the price.
<v Speaker 1>I kind of honestly, if I'm talking to like the
<v Speaker 1>dark part of myself, I would pay even more. And
<v Speaker 1>so I think there, I think, I know, I know,
<v Speaker 1>and I think there's a lot of people like it.
<v Speaker 1>Had that new docu con, that Mario Kart looks good
<v Speaker 1>and all the other stuff that they're promising GameCube games,
<v Speaker 1>that's a b I'm gonna want to get this thing
<v Speaker 1>at some point this year. And then still thirty percent
<v Speaker 1>of people are at an a like that's yeah, you
<v Speaker 1>they aced it, they nailed it. And then and I
<v Speaker 1>do think like the pricing is going to be included
<v Speaker 1>in the how people are feeling about that direct Maybe
<v Speaker 1>not entirely. Maybe some people are just like separating those
<v Speaker 1>two things, but I think most people are combining their
<v Speaker 1>feelings and answering here, So we'll see. I think it's
<v Speaker 1>going to be a very interesting rest of this year
<v Speaker 1>for Nintendo, and I am looking forward to how how
<v Speaker 1>like it all plays out. It's going to be interesting
<v Speaker 1>one way or the other. All right, sir, let's see
<v Speaker 1>here a new poll question, are you getting a switch
<v Speaker 1>to this year? I think it's how we're gonna phrase
<v Speaker 1>it this year. Now, don't don't feel about launch, but
<v Speaker 1>this year are you going to try to get a
<v Speaker 1>switch to? Yes or no? We'll get the results of that.
<v Speaker 1>Talk about it on game Breaking News here on the
<v Speaker 1>Power Block with Giant Bomb game Spot tomorrow. Speaking of
<v Speaker 1>the Power Block, we have let's see you later. Today
<v Speaker 1>is the Voicemail dump truck. I think we got to
<v Speaker 1>figure out how how is jan going to be back
<v Speaker 1>in time for that Voice of God? Do you know
<v Speaker 1>I can't remember?
<v Speaker 3>Figure that out.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna figure all this out everybody. In the meantime, though,
<v Speaker 1>Jason Fonelli, thank you so much for hanging out with
<v Speaker 1>me and talking about video games. Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>Always a plast My friend talks soon.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for watching and listening. Please stick around
<v Speaker 1>on the Power Block. GameSpot show should be up next.
<v Speaker 1>I think after that, Tom Caswell is going to be
<v Speaker 1>playing the Return of Verdansk, the map for Call of Duty,
<v Speaker 1>a war zone, so look out for all of that
<v Speaker 1>and then voicemail dump truck after that, and then we'll
<v Speaker 1>be back tomorrow with even more new stuff. Until then,
<v Speaker 1>have a good one, take care of yourself, and goodbye.
