Speaker 1: Welcome everyone, It is the local Troy Dealers KSR postgame show. Kentucky football begins their season with a victory at home over Toledo the Rockets twenty four to sixteen in a game that couldn't ask for better better weather, maybe could have asked for a little better performance, but most importantly Cats come away with a win. We will open up the phone lines here in just a minute. Remember the text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.

00:00:29
Speaker 2: I think the way to look at.

00:00:30
Speaker 1: This game, when you win a game twenty four to sixteen against a good team, but a MAC team, is to look at the positive and the negative.

00:00:39
Speaker 2: So let me let me let me start with the positive. Okay. The biggest thing that sticks out to me is that the UK defense, uh is much better all right. The last year.

00:00:51
Speaker 1: While they did have some games where the defense played well Georgia being the one that stuck out, there were some games where they just got absolutely annihilated. I thought, for the most part, the UK defense controlled the game today, certainly controlled it for three quarters.

00:01:07
Speaker 2: You could.

00:01:09
Speaker 1: I don't want to say they quit. I think they eased up a little bit on that final drive which allowed Toledo to go ninety five yards. You can't do that because you'll give them, you can give him a chance to come back and win the game. But I thought the defense is better, specifically the defensive line. I mean, this defensive line I think has a chance to be one of the better ones they've had in last few years. Steven Soles obviously they sack them. Soles, I guess is apparently what he's going by. Had two sacks during the game. But even more than the I think they got credit for three sacks and six hits on the quarterback. I just thought they got pressure on Toledo in the backfield a lot more. This is a much better overall defensive line than Kentucky's had in the last few years. Secondary left a little bit to be desired, especially at the end, but they're playing soft coverage there. I think we'll have to wait and see. But you have a defense now that is kind of a Brad White Mark Stoops defense where you are able to be tough to play physically, and for three quarters I thought they were great. Last quarter, I guess you can kind of look at it how you believe at the game, but I think in general, positive about the defense, more positive about the running game and the offensive line than I've been, I mean especially, I think Kentucky.

00:02:36
Speaker 2: Ran the ball pretty much as they.

00:02:38
Speaker 1: Needed to and wanted to. I think the line of scrimmage was controlled by Kentucky most of the game. And our two backs, Daldell and McGowan are really good and really different. You know, Dowdell gets one hundred and twenty nine yards. Seventy nine of them are on the one play, but McGowan had seventy eight, and they just grind them out. When they need four five yards, they get him. I'm not gonna say it's like Benny Snell Chris Rodriguez s but it's better than what we saw last year.

00:03:07
Speaker 2: So that's good.

00:03:08
Speaker 1: And by the way, after the game, Mark Stoops said that Jamerian Willcox was suspended due to a team rule violation and he would have more on his status next week. Billy, I don't know about you. That sounds like a guy who may not be on the team.

00:03:23
Speaker 2: When they talk.

00:03:23
Speaker 3: About it again.

00:03:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there was something there.

00:03:27
Speaker 1: I mean, you don't when you say suspended for a rule violation and then say I'll tell you more about it next week. That second part makes me worried about the future. Otherwise you would just say it was a one game thing. But I think he's been passed either way. I think Dalda Allen McGowan are the guys, So I think those are positive. I actually thought at I thought in terms of, like our fans, pretty good attendance, all things considering, you know, I kind of can get a sense of that at the bar before the game, and there was a lot of people generally positive. So I think that showed up in the in the crowd and in the environment. Obviously, you couldn't ask for a better day. Now negatives, I don't know how you can look at this and go, all right, what's the passing game? I mean, Calzada ten for twenty three eighty five yards in interception. He also had a safety where he should have handed off the ball. He kept it and ended up getting a safety. Just not a very I don't know. I mean, I would say not a very encouraging performance. A lot of his throws were billy way off right, like not kind of off way off, and then I didn't see a ton of separation with the wide receivers.

00:04:49
Speaker 2: I'm actually legitimately.

00:04:50
Speaker 1: A little worried about Art Calzada is another issue. Like we'll talk about Kazada a second, But the wide receivers, I mean, just to give you a sense, we don't our wide receivers had a total of four catches for what seven fourteen yards?

00:05:09
Speaker 2: Twelve yards? I mean, you know that's not good.

00:05:14
Speaker 1: And Harley Gilmore, who finished with minus five yards two receptions of minus five yards, he seemed to be the go to guy.

00:05:20
Speaker 2: Down the stretch. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know that.

00:05:25
Speaker 1: This does not look like a receiving court at least right now. Who's going to be able to get separation in the sec? But if they do, you do have to wonder about the play of Calzada. Now, Mark Stoops was honest after the game said he just wasn't very good, but he said he thought he would be much better.

00:05:43
Speaker 2: I hope that's true. They don't have a lot of time.

00:05:45
Speaker 1: I mean, Old Miss comes in here next week and I can guarantee you they will put up some points. And right now, this does not look like an offense that's going to be throwing the ball a lot, and that's gonna be a problem. Now I think that this is gonna be a team in the old Mark Stoops bold where they're running it down your throat. I think that's probably gonna be this team's best chance of success. But you know, when they it was clear Toledo was saying, beat us, beat us on passes longer than fifteen yards, and how many do they complete Billy one two?

00:06:24
Speaker 2: It wasn't many.

00:06:25
Speaker 1: I mean most of the passes. You know, you get some passes ten twelve yards and a little bit of running. You had the Willie Rodriguez fumble after the one catch, but also just look at who was receiving. I mean forty three yards for Catus, thirty one yards for Rodriguez. I mean, after years of saying we never throw it to tight ends, now it's like we're only.

00:06:44
Speaker 2: Throwing it to tight ends.

00:06:46
Speaker 1: So I'm a little concerned about the passing game now, I will say. Adam Luckett said on the pregame show, Toledo has two members of their secondary that will play in the NFL.

00:06:56
Speaker 2: They're gonna be draft picks.

00:06:58
Speaker 1: Now, guess what these teams are going to be playing in the SEC are going to have that too. But this is not a normal mac secondary. These guys actually are good still, though you have to get.

00:07:10
Speaker 2: More than eighty five yards.

00:07:12
Speaker 1: Didn't love play calling, you know, I didn't love it. I didn't love the fact that we're running down their throat and we get to the forty yard line of Toledo, where you only need five to seven to eight yards to be in field goal range, and you throw it three straight times for three straight in completions. They did that on back to back possessions when it was ten to two. That could have been you know, that could have been a game changer. But luckily they were able to overcome it. But I still don't. I have to say, we've been watching now for a year in a game, I still don't really understand Bush Hampden's play calling philosophy. If you were to say to me, what does he like to do. He likes to have a lot of motion in his backfield, but Billy, I don't think he ever uses anyone that ever goes out in motion unless it's a jet sweep, and that never works. It's never worked one time that we've done it, So I don't. I just don't really understand his offensive methodology. I mean, at least going back to Liam and the various offensive coordinators.

00:08:22
Speaker 2: I kind of knew what they were trying to do.

00:08:24
Speaker 1: I'm not even totally sure I understand what Bush Hampden is trying to do in a given situation. So you know, that's a little a little concerning. Probably A third thing is we gotta get a better flag. What was that flag, Billy? It's the first.

00:08:41
Speaker 2: Week of the season.

00:08:43
Speaker 1: Why do we have a ragged old flag la la Johnny Cash flying from the top of the stadium, Like, you know, come on, it's week one. We gotta fix that. I will say I was not at the game, so I gotta be clear, but I heard I had more complaints about the fact that they did not play Grove Street party.

00:09:02
Speaker 2: Have we ended that tradition all of a sudden, I.

00:09:06
Speaker 3: Don't know.

00:09:07
Speaker 1: I don't understand that, Like that's the one thing we did, right, you know, we have no football traditions. They created that one and then they just stopped. So I don't really I don't I don't really get that either.

00:09:22
Speaker 2: But overall, we won.

00:09:25
Speaker 1: That's important. This was a game they could have lost. I mean, let's be real. During the off season, the most the hottest potential upset pick by most national college football people was Toledo over Kentucky. That was the hottest pick. That was the one you heard the most. Kirk harb Street Today picked it as a super underdog of the week. You know, we won, so that's important. I sat there and thought during the first half, I had, like, if you've listened to KSR, like, you know I get nervous during games. I actually don't get nervous as much during football, probably just my expectations are often that we're not gonna do well. But I was nervous today because there's a part of me saying, if they lose this game, let me just forget it. You know, there's no way this fan base is going to be engaged. So I had like that pit of my stomach nervousness. And we won, and I do think that that was not a given going into it. Vegas is so good, Like the betting lines are so good. Remember it opened at thirteen and a half, got that down to seven and a half, ended up at ten and a half. If you got it at seven and a half, like I didn't, bill, you made money. If you waited till ten and a half, you lost and You've been really upset about that ninety five yard drive at the end. Yeah, but none of that really matters as opposed to winning the game.

00:10:46
Speaker 2: I have concerns about this offense.

00:10:49
Speaker 1: I'm pretty optimistic about at least our front seven.

00:10:53
Speaker 2: On the defense.

00:10:54
Speaker 1: I'm more optimistic about the offensive line than I was probably coming into the season. But if I'm honest, I'm probably more pessimistic about the quarterback than the wide receivers than I was. I think I taught myself into like, we got all these options at wide receiver, it's gonna be exciting. And yeah, I mean Law didn't even have a catch. Calzada did not look sharp, and now you do have to wonder, you know, what will happen now. I will say this, it's very important not to overreact to game one either way.

00:11:29
Speaker 2: Remember last year.

00:11:31
Speaker 1: In Game one, Vandergriff looked really good and we destroyed Ohio and you saw how that year ended. Go back to twenty eighteen. That year we were really good. We struggled with Central Michigan didn't win until the end of the fourth quarter. So these games it's usually against the MAC team where we start the year, they're not always tied to what actually ends up happening. But this fan base wants to see more from its offense. We used to take the defense as a given last year.

00:12:06
Speaker 2: It wasn't.

00:12:07
Speaker 1: Maybe it'll be more of a given this year. But I don't know how you can watch that and not be at least a little concerned about the start of the Calzana era.

00:12:19
Speaker 2: Billy, Uh, what was your initial takeaway?

00:12:22
Speaker 3: I was really happy about the defense. Jeff Mcoro talked a lot about Alex Safari and how great he was.

00:12:27
Speaker 1: He was great the first of all. Alex Fari thirteen tackles. You know, we've talked about how he could he will be an NFL draft pick. That's why thirteen tackles. He's the leader I think this team needs on defense.

00:12:39
Speaker 3: Billy, absolutely so for him to move from secondary to linebacker, he looked great. And then also our punter laid a big hit. I mean, for the having.

00:12:48
Speaker 1: Said take that zero toughness rating and stick it, he laid that guy out.

00:12:54
Speaker 3: Didn'season he'd been waiting for that shot.

00:12:57
Speaker 2: I think he had been waiting for it. So I'm interested to see.

00:13:00
Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and open up the lines eight five to nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. What's your take if you were at the game? I was not at the game, so I would like to hear your take from inside the stadium. What did you What was the feeling?

00:13:13
Speaker 2: You know?

00:13:13
Speaker 1: Next week Old Missus coming. Obviously we beat them last year. They're gonna they've been preparing all off season for next week. It's gonna be three thirty, it's gonna be national television. It's gonna be probably the best atmosphere, assuming the weather's good for a Kentucky.

00:13:32
Speaker 2: Game we might have all year. What are we gonna see?

00:13:36
Speaker 1: I think after this game tonight, I guess the question would be am I more optimistic.

00:13:43
Speaker 2: Or less about next week?

00:13:46
Speaker 1: If I'm honest, I'm probably the same. Because I thought we were gonna win this week. I thought it was gonna look ragged. I probably thought we'd look a little better on offense and a little worse on defense.

00:14:00
Speaker 2: So we're kind of.

00:14:00
Speaker 1: Right where I thought we were, and then next week we'll kind of have a sense is this gonna be a team that's competitive this year?

00:14:08
Speaker 2: Or is it not?

00:14:10
Speaker 1: Next week we probably find out eight If I'm nine two to eight to oho twenty two eighty seven.

00:14:14
Speaker 2: Give us a shout, let us know what you think.

00:14:16
Speaker 1: It is the local Toy Dealers could KSR postgame show Kentucky beats Ledo twenty four to sixteen, will take a break right back, take.

00:14:23
Speaker 2: Your calls on KSR.

00:14:24
Speaker 1: It is the local Toy toilet Dealers KSR postgame show. Looking at the text machine, one person rights, Matt, you got through the first segment and didn't say anything about putting cutter bowl in. I didn't because I know people are already gonna think that on their own. I wasn't to a point yet today where I thought they should do that because I you know, we led pretty much the whole game, so I didn't think you would make that change.

00:14:51
Speaker 2: Now, I will say Calezon has got two more games to play well.

00:14:55
Speaker 1: In my opinion, he's gonna have to show something against Old Miss or Eastern Michigan.

00:15:00
Speaker 2: Something.

00:15:00
Speaker 1: I mean, if we get through the Eastern Michigan game and we see another performance like this, then I think you have to ask during the bye week do you consider something else?

00:15:10
Speaker 2: But I'm not ready to say that yet.

00:15:12
Speaker 1: I think it's probably the case if you're gonna play a good team like Old Miss Cazada probably gives you the best chance to win next week, but I don't think it's a crazy conversation to at least start thinking about it. But he's gonna have two more games when you get to Eastern Michigan, which I don't think is a very good team. If he is not producing something throwing, then I do think you've got a bye week. That's when you would think about it. Whether you would do it or not, I'm not sure. Let's quickly talk about what's happened in the rest of college football. You had Arch Manning look bad, Billy Bully, I mean like like that, like not just not just didn't look like a Manning in a Heisman candidate look bad.

00:15:52
Speaker 2: Uh.

00:15:54
Speaker 1: I think I sort of thought maybe he wouldn't be as good as people thought, but I'm not sure I predicted he would look bad.

00:16:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Paul Finbon didn't help, you know, appointing him better than Tim Tebow already everything that's that show he's done for the last month.

00:16:07
Speaker 1: But I mean Ohio State kind of owned that game throughout. So not a great performance for the SEC. I mean, Texas can still be fine make the playoffs, but not a great, great showing. What's probably more concerning is that right now Florida State leads Alabama seventeen to seven. Florida State has not even been good in the last few years, and Alabama's losing. It was a monsoon during the second quarter. If you want to talk about a seat being torching hot, see what happens with Alabama loses today.

00:16:37
Speaker 2: My guess is they'll come back.

00:16:39
Speaker 1: They tend to play one game like this early in the year often, but a little bit, you know, a little bit of a surprise.

00:16:46
Speaker 2: There's not been a huge upset yet on the day.

00:16:51
Speaker 1: So the big story's probably been that John Summrall said Northwestern denied tu Lane's request to where purple white jerseys in honor of the h what twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and he was very mad about it, said Northwestern had disrespected the city.

00:17:12
Speaker 2: Of New Orleans.

00:17:13
Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean, it feels like they should have agreed to it. But that's also a pretty strong statement that Northwestern just come in and go, we hate you New Orleans.

00:17:24
Speaker 2: When did they what did they do?

00:17:26
Speaker 3: Don't disrespect New Orleans?

00:17:27
Speaker 1: Man, I guess, all right, but his twentieth anniversary, if you're Northwestern and they want to wear a special thing, just just let them do it too.

00:17:34
Speaker 2: Lane ended up crushing Northwestern. By the way, Tulane.

00:17:38
Speaker 1: If you were to ask me what team might be the most likely to make the playoff, they're probably the answer, because with BOISESE. Day having lost in Week one, they're probably the favorite to get that non powerful slot. And of course every time John summerl does well, people here chatter about it.

00:17:56
Speaker 2: All right, Billy, who's up first?

00:17:57
Speaker 3: Taylor?

00:17:58
Speaker 2: Taylor? Go ahead, Taylor?

00:18:01
Speaker 4: Hey, guys, currently on my way up to uh Cincinnati for the Cat's Reds doubleheader on this SI on Saturday.

00:18:08
Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I mean, I mean, like I think it is what it is, but go ahead? Yeah.

00:18:16
Speaker 4: Uh to count out his credit, he did have two passes that that that one that got overturned on the sideline and then that he did that was like word zone. That was the past interference.

00:18:27
Speaker 1: Good good, good point on both those, but especially that was a good throw on the one where his elbow was out of bounds. That was that was to law, right, Am I correct about that?

00:18:36
Speaker 5: Yeah?

00:18:37
Speaker 4: I think it was Hester. Maybe I can't remember, you're you're right, Hester, but uh yeah, I'm with you. I'm not really uh changed at all going into the whole Miss game. But the one thing that I have to complain about is the in game atmosphere was horrible today.

00:18:55
Speaker 1: To talk about that, I get complaints probably every home game about atmosphere, but I think there's it is unlikely to me that I can ever remember a game where I got more than I got today. Now, of course I wasn't there, but one person said, and we love him, Billy, but one person said, it sounded like Rick was the djuro from the morning show. But was it that bad?

00:19:25
Speaker 5: It was?

00:19:25
Speaker 4: It was pretty bad today. And you know, back in the day, people used to complain about the music being too loud, and today today it felt like you couldn't really even really hardly hear it. And then they got rid of the one tradition that got the stadium jacked up. The fourth quarter app and everybody's just looking at each other like, all right, what's going on? Where's where's Grove Street? And I mean that the stadium was dead at the end of the fourth quarter. People are already leaving anyways. But then they didn't play the traditional song of Grove Street to get people excited, and I mean it it felt like a ghost down in there. There was no energy in the stadium at all.

00:19:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard, I appreciate the call.

00:19:59
Speaker 1: I atmosphere has been a consistent complaint, and I've had the complaint from when I would go to every game, But for whatever reason, I heard more of it today. There were more messages to me. Maybe it was just because Grove Street didn't get played and that's why everybody focused on it. But I heard more messages about it today than maybe any game I can ever remember.

00:20:24
Speaker 2: So I don't know.

00:20:27
Speaker 1: They do a terrible job making the music and all that modern at Krogerfield. It's always been like that. It's better now than it was ten years ago. But I don't know if maybe like somebody was out, I mean, could Rick have been the DJ?

00:20:46
Speaker 3: Well, they probably got Doomas Walker in, so it was probably.

00:20:49
Speaker 1: Apparently they did. Somebody did tell me they did play Dumas Walker. But you know, I don't know. I don't know why it's so bad. It feels like it can't be that hard. They do it good, they do. They've done better with basketba, Like why can't Why is it still like that for football?

00:21:03
Speaker 2: What's next, Jacob, Jacob, go ahead, Jacob.

00:21:08
Speaker 6: Hey, Matt, I just wanted to say that I was pleased with the both of the running backs. I think they're a definite step up from from last year. One area that I think could definitely improve is like that sit in the edge. I felt like, you know, they were getting you know, east to west okay, but they didn't get that edge set and so they couldn't really turn it up the field. So I think that's something that could definitely be improved upon. And I will agree with the environment comment. I had a couple of ladies behind me that were probably at least forty years older than the asking when the it's a party.

00:21:52
Speaker 4: Song, it is going to come on?

00:21:53
Speaker 6: Yeah, why would they change something?

00:21:56
Speaker 2: Why would they change that? I mean, I appreciate the call.

00:21:58
Speaker 1: Like you know, they have tried unorganically or inorganically to create a tradition at UK football forever from the claw thing to to whatever, and that was one that came organically and that people liked. I don't really understand why you would change it. It's the one it's the one thing people seem to think was kind of cool and yeah, when people's grandmothers know it. You know, you could argue maybe that makes it to where it's not as cool, but like it's cooler.

00:22:32
Speaker 3: The Dumas Walker, where's the it's the party song? I love that.

00:22:39
Speaker 2: Ethel Is it a party yet?

00:22:43
Speaker 3: Where's Waka flaka? Uh? The Hateful Truth is next?

00:22:47
Speaker 2: Hateful Truth? How are you?

00:22:50
Speaker 4: First time?

00:22:51
Speaker 7: Long time?

00:22:51
Speaker 2: Matt?

00:22:52
Speaker 1: Who are What's up? Bama comes up short? I'm first down? Go ahead?

00:22:56
Speaker 4: Well, I just got to say this team has a long way to go. Stupents is not motivating. At one point during the postgame show with Tom Leech, he said that kaws Otta was not fully prepared. Well, that's all on coach Stoops.

00:23:12
Speaker 2: I mean, who said he wasn't fully prepared?

00:23:15
Speaker 4: Mark Stoops did at one point. I forgot the exact word, but basically it wasn't that Kasata was fully prepared.

00:23:24
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's true.

00:23:27
Speaker 1: To be fair, I didn't hear him say that on the radio comments I listened to If he said it the press conference?

00:23:32
Speaker 2: I did.

00:23:33
Speaker 1: I'm not saying you're wrong, but I did not hear him say that on the radio comments. Are you saying that was on the press conference?

00:23:39
Speaker 8: Well?

00:23:40
Speaker 4: I think I heard it on the radio part, it sounded like you said that he did.

00:23:45
Speaker 1: Say it wasn't his best performance, and he said, uh, he said he wasn't very good and it wasn't his best performance to Billy. Do you remember did he say he wasn't prepared?

00:23:54
Speaker 3: Not that explicitly. I don't remember.

00:23:56
Speaker 1: Okay, Well, I think it's important, Like if that were true for a seventh year, that's a bad side.

00:24:01
Speaker 2: But you know, maybe we'll look back and play see what he said.

00:24:04
Speaker 4: But go ahead, and then, in my opinion, there is no way in the world that a MAX school that finished sixth in their conference should come in and have more yards than the SEC school. School Taleda had three hundred and twenty nine yards and we had three hundred and five. And I think everybody's saying our defense was great, they wasn't very good. If you're giving up three hundred and twenty, we.

00:24:28
Speaker 2: Need to be fair.

00:24:29
Speaker 1: A lot of that is that ninety five year old drive at the end, right, And don't get me real, I should I agree with that completely, but at that point, and I'm not disagreeing with you're right, it shouldn't have happened. I do think that they kind of let their foot off the gas. I mean I didn't watch the game at any point and not think Kentucky's defense was controlling the game, did you.

00:24:55
Speaker 4: Well, there was a lot of it that I just felt like, you know, they finished sixth in the map. We're an SEC school, it's time to get after a little bit. We played the law at the very beginning. We'd run the clock down to nine five seconds.

00:25:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like that.

00:25:08
Speaker 4: You're right, why are you scared today? As a Toledo run after him? Get some some I think that.

00:25:15
Speaker 1: Is a totally fair point. Appreciate the call. Totally fair point.

00:25:19
Speaker 2: I still felt like for most until the fourth.

00:25:21
Speaker 1: Quarter, I kind of felt like our defense was controlling it. Now it is fair to criticize that fourth quarter, but I think the defense is still gonna be good. Florida State is up seventeen to seven, just broke one. They're inside the five billy to potentially go up twenty four to seven.

00:25:37
Speaker 3: Wow.

00:25:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be touchdown Florida State. That, I mean, that would be an unbelievable result.

00:25:46
Speaker 2: Not only I have Alabama lost, but to just get taken to the woodshed by Florida State. Wow, what's next? Peyton, Peyton, go ahead, Peyton, hey man, first time? Who are.

00:26:02
Speaker 9: I was at the game. I would say he's probably eighty five percent full. Eighty five percent probably, And.

00:26:10
Speaker 1: When you consider the off season we've had, when you consider the off season, the negativity, the sort of eleven percent approval rating that the athletic had and all that, I actually don't think that's bad for your first opponent. I expect it'll be full next week for old Bess.

00:26:25
Speaker 9: I agree. Another thing, I've got a couple of things to say, Uh, Colzada, seven year, seventh year? Could I don't enough have children? You gotta hand that off to the running back.

00:26:39
Speaker 8: Get safety there on this terrible.

00:26:41
Speaker 1: Play, terrible play, especially at a time in the game where like we're owning it.

00:26:45
Speaker 2: Don't do anything stupid. That was a terrible play. You're right.

00:26:49
Speaker 9: And then the last thing is is lane kiffs like we do play bad next week, lane kivsn we'll try to put eighty on us.

00:26:57
Speaker 2: He will last year.

00:26:57
Speaker 1: You're exactly right, he will since we won last week last year, he will definitely try and we just can't let him do it. Appreciate the call shout out, by the way to Aydon Larros the punter. After that safety, that was a great kick because you know they could have ended up with a good field position there momentum who knows and he pins him inside the twenty. After that, that was that was very very well done. What's next, Big Blue Josh, Big Blue Josh?

00:27:23
Speaker 2: Go ahead?

00:27:24
Speaker 8: Yeah, we sun Big Blue Josh here and I got two quick points for you. Well, I know Kalsa is gonna get a lot of slanders, but I think a lot of that's on our offensive coordinator Bus Hampton. I think you said have made some better plays, but uh if Kalazada can't over fifteen yards, all.

00:27:43
Speaker 1: Right, I appreciate you call. That's a fake voice. That's a fact. I appreciate the call. That's I appreciate the call.

00:27:47
Speaker 2: Billy h he's gone.

00:27:51
Speaker 3: No, I was on the phone with Okay, that.

00:27:53
Speaker 1: Was a fake voice. That wasn't his real voice. Plus, since I heard somebody say something before, I'm okay with whatever what you make not cussing, But you can't use the fake voice so that you could. I listen, I've been doing as well. I can hear it.

00:28:07
Speaker 3: What's next, Jerry, Jerry, go ahead, Jerry.

00:28:12
Speaker 9: Hey Man.

00:28:13
Speaker 10: Well, the important thing is this is a dangerous game.

00:28:15
Speaker 11: They could have lost, and they.

00:28:16
Speaker 10: Want it correct correct, But the you know, going forward, I think I said before, if they won by more than fourteen, you can feel better about the rest of the season.

00:28:27
Speaker 11: Less than fourteen and we'll see. I think the defense will good most of the game. Thing the worries about the defense is when they went to tempo, the defense struggling to let them run a ninety five yard drive. And Old Miss is coming here next week and they'll see that the whole game.

00:28:42
Speaker 2: That's good.

00:28:43
Speaker 1: You're exactly right about that. Part of me wonders, though, because I heard Tom and Jeff say this, like Toledo doesn't ever do that. Part of me wonders if maybe they weren't completely prepared for that because they don't do it. But you're right, if that's a sign things to come, then we're in trouble because Ole Miss will do tempo. A lot of teams we play will But I kind of wonder if maybe that was just something they didn't prepare for a lot because that's not what Toledo normally does.

00:29:12
Speaker 11: Well, we'll see and then everybody's discussed it. When we get these SEC games. They're gonna load the line of scrimmage eight or nine guys and there Kentucky to throw the ball, be able to throw the ball much more than ninety five yards a game, so we'll see back. I would have loved to see him blow this team out by more than fourteen, so you cand feel better. But you know, like I said, we'll just we'll find out next week and we'll see what's tonight they're playing tonight, and we'll you know, deal with no more. But but yeah, and everybody's right, Lane Kiffin, he's gonna try and to see Spurner on us if he can, because because of what happened last year.

00:29:47
Speaker 8: So we'll see.

00:29:48
Speaker 2: You're exactly right. Appreciate it, Jerry.

00:29:50
Speaker 1: I would be interested if somebody who knows more about football, like the X and O's than I do, would have the what do they call it the alle to or whatever film and and see if our receivers got open, because you know, you can't you can't see that on the broadcast. You can't see where the receivers are. They're following the ball on the line of scrimmage. So I it would be interesting to me to see if guys were open I remember Levis's Levis's second year, Freddie's saying to me, hey, you know, Will's not playing great, but some of these guys just aren't open, like they don't they're not getting open downfield, and so you can't always see that. So it'd be interesting to see like our guys open or not. And it's just there's just no way for me to know that based on what I see, you know on the game film?

00:30:45
Speaker 2: What's next, Jose, how are you?

00:30:50
Speaker 8: Hey?

00:30:50
Speaker 12: Man?

00:30:50
Speaker 13: First thing to say is happy birthday. My mom actually has the same birthday.

00:30:54
Speaker 2: So well, thank you, Happy birthday to your mom.

00:30:58
Speaker 13: Thank you. Second thing is I am extremely disappointed. Less than one hundred yards passing. That's disappointing, not even a touchdom very disappointing. Back to our stands being really empty and our punter being the best player, that's well.

00:31:14
Speaker 1: First, I don't think either of those things are true. I don't think the stands were really empty.

00:31:18
Speaker 2: There were. It was you know, and that's your were you at the game?

00:31:25
Speaker 13: I was not?

00:31:26
Speaker 2: Okay?

00:31:26
Speaker 1: So you have to remember the camera angle where they shoot the game from. They're shooting the visitor sidelines and so you're see the upper level the visitor sidelines is always gonna be the most empty part of the stadium. So that's why it can be misleading. Now, it is not true that the punters the best part of the game. Alex Safari was great. We had a lot of defenders play well. Our running backs were good. I know that's a good joke to say the punters the best player, but he's not. Alex Safari is an NFL player and he played excellent today.

00:32:01
Speaker 13: Okay, I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

00:32:04
Speaker 2: You know you won't give me that Alixa Fari. We played excellent with thirteen tackles.

00:32:07
Speaker 4: No, Alex Afari.

00:32:08
Speaker 13: Alexa Fari played great. I mean he was. He was an amazing.

00:32:11
Speaker 11: Player and so.

00:32:13
Speaker 13: He got all these tackles. Okay, no, he was the best player. But who was the both player on the offense.

00:32:19
Speaker 2: Well, the running backs were pretty good.

00:32:21
Speaker 13: I mean, you know, we had one big run, but some of.

00:32:26
Speaker 1: That's not on I mean some of that was you know, they they can't make a hole where it doesn't exist, right, I mean, I look at running backs. I judge him by when you get when you get a lane, can you hit a burst and go Downdell did that. And then secondly, how many yards do you get after you get hit? And these guys, while they're not Vinnie and Chris, while they're not Bevinnie and Chris, they did pretty well.

00:32:48
Speaker 2: They turned a lot of two.

00:32:49
Speaker 1: And three yard games into four and five yard games. And when we were running up the middle, we kind of controlled the line of scrimmage. So I thought they played pretty well.

00:32:59
Speaker 13: Okay, I mean, I mean, we're giving up a safety to a Mac team.

00:33:05
Speaker 1: But that was odd. But that was hot. That was on the running backs. That was on Calzada and the offensive.

00:33:09
Speaker 13: No, not on the not on the running backs exactly. And the running bags on the offensive line are the heart of our offense.

00:33:16
Speaker 6: That's yeah, I appreciate.

00:33:21
Speaker 2: I mean that may be true. We'll see. I am not.

00:33:26
Speaker 1: You know, I'm not quite as down on I thought the running game. In order to be a team like a MAC team and beat them relatively easily, you need your running game to dominate. I don't know that I would say it dominated, but I say it was close to dominate. I think they ran the ball really well, and of course then they finally got rewarded by busting one. I also note about our defense. We had two strips billion just didn't come up with them. Yeah right, I mean that those are two plays that you could have had the game be over in the first half if those two if those two strips, so that you know.

00:34:00
Speaker 3: That's a big fourth down stops as well.

00:34:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly. So I'm I'm pretty positive on the defense. Again, the last drive sucked, but put that to the side.

00:34:11
Speaker 2: Generally pretty pretty positive.

00:34:12
Speaker 1: If I'm nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven, we will take a break and be right back.

00:34:17
Speaker 2: It's a local Toy Dealers KSR post game show. Welcome back. It is a local toy Dealers KSR postgame show.

00:34:23
Speaker 1: Alabama. Driving. You gotta think, maybe driving to try to stay in the game. Twenty four to seven with six minutes and forty nine seconds left in.

00:34:32
Speaker 2: The third quarter.

00:34:34
Speaker 1: Just an absolutely crazy result tonight. What you get LSU and Clemson, which should be I don't know those those are I let's use my pick to win the whole thing. Of course, they they could lose tonight and it wouldn't really matter, but be interesting to see where those two teams are. I always tend to over I always tend to go against Clemson. So I'm gonna do that again tonight. But you do you do wonder? I mean Texas lost, Obama's losing. Uh, I wonder what's We'll see what happens with the rest of the top of the sc Guess he got a big win last night with Auburn over Baylor. Baylor's one of the probably Uh that's a game where you know, Auburn is one of the bottom tier teams in the SEC. To go on the road and win at Baylor, that's a pretty good win for the conference. Tennessee beat Syracuse was up most of the game by a decent amount. All right, who's up next?

00:35:24
Speaker 3: Bluegrass is an ex bluegrass?

00:35:26
Speaker 2: What's up?

00:35:28
Speaker 14: I tell you what, Matt.

00:35:29
Speaker 7: When I listened to the replay of my voice when I call it in, I sure wish it was a fake voice. So I tell you that much.

00:35:36
Speaker 9: I don't tell you what.

00:35:36
Speaker 2: I know yours. I know yours. Yours isn't fake.

00:35:41
Speaker 7: I'll tell you what now. You didn't caught me off a ledge. I was a little bit aggravated, But I guess that's why I listened to you, Matt, because I was really, you know.

00:35:48
Speaker 15: Peed off a little bit.

00:35:49
Speaker 7: But but I'll tell you what I was in Austin when Vince Young put that red option in, you know, and when they ran it, and never, not one time, did I ever see him run it inside the end zone. Now, you can't put that that's a Bush Hampton thing. That's not it.

00:36:01
Speaker 2: I agree. Actually, I'm glad you said.

00:36:05
Speaker 1: I'm glad you said that because he did make the wrong read. But you're right. I don't understand why you run that right there, because you you you make it to where if your quarterback makes the wrong read, you're setting yourself up for exactly what happened. Now, Bush would probably argue, I got a seven to year quarterback. I gotta be able to trust he makes the right read. Maybe, so you've got to run some kind of dive.

00:36:28
Speaker 7: You gotta run some kind of dive really quick, so we don't have to make a decision. We just push him. Hey, don't we have bigger guys? Are guys making more money? I mean, we've got to win one on one competitions right there?

00:36:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, we generally did, though.

00:36:41
Speaker 1: I mean that's the other reason I thought that was weird is generally, when we were in those situations, we'd get three or four yards, So it's.

00:36:48
Speaker 2: Just an odd it was an odd decision. You're exactly right to do it right there?

00:36:53
Speaker 7: All right, thanks a lot, phils appreciate it.

00:36:55
Speaker 2: Eight five, nine two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven. What's next?

00:36:59
Speaker 3: Snoop? Is next?

00:37:00
Speaker 2: Snoop? What's up? Snoop?

00:37:03
Speaker 5: How you doing?

00:37:04
Speaker 12: I think, well, the reason we ohc did what he did was because we're going to get o miss next week. We don't want to give we don't want to give everything away.

00:37:13
Speaker 1: Okay, So that argument comes into play probably every year at the first game, and generally speaking I give credibility to it, but Snoop, I can't give credibility to it this year because this was a game you could lose, right like Toledos picked to win their conference. And I have to think maybe they didn't open up the whole playbook, but I have to think they put a lot of it in because this was a game that literally if they lose, it's hard to see how Mark Stoops is still the coach next year. So I a lot of years I agree with you. I'm not sure I agree with you.

00:37:55
Speaker 12: But do you think we was ever in a position today where coaches was like, Okay, we need to open up the full.

00:38:01
Speaker 2: Play book, we need to let that's a fair question. All, that's a fair question.

00:38:06
Speaker 1: What I would say is there was a long period of the game where it was ten to two and it was a one score game, and we had multiple chances to score and probably put the game away, and we had like three or four possessions where we didn't where you know, we'd get to like their forty and then punt.

00:38:29
Speaker 12: You know, I would have thought that, I feel like, Mark don't ever want to put He's never one of those guys that are always about putting the game away.

00:38:36
Speaker 2: I guess you're right about that. You're right about that. You're right. Thank you, Snoop, appreciate it. You know.

00:38:42
Speaker 1: The only time in this game I was really nervous, like really nervous, was like when it was ten to two and we just kept felt like we're on the brink of making it a two score game and we just couldn't do it. And that was the time I would have thought, if you're holding anything back, and I kind of don't think they were, but if you were, you'd.

00:39:00
Speaker 2: Do it right there. Because it was ten to two for a long time what's next?

00:39:05
Speaker 3: Kyle is next?

00:39:06
Speaker 2: Kyle? Go ahead, Kyle, Like if I'm nine, two eighth twenty two.

00:39:09
Speaker 8: A.

00:39:11
Speaker 16: Hey man, I uh, I gotta give credit to Brad White. I mean, he's the only coach on our staff. Whenever he talked I feel like I believe him, you know, whenever he talks about being ready prepared, I believe in Brad White. And and my second point is, I know if you follow golf, I'm a big golf guy and I love getting into the statistics of golf with strokes gained. And my favorite statistic is what we call the eye test. And when I look at Bus Hampden's body of work last year and now today, that eye test statistic is just telling me he's kind of stinky.

00:39:48
Speaker 12: I just I'm kind of done.

00:39:50
Speaker 16: I'm out on that. I think it just.

00:39:53
Speaker 1: A second to you on the eye test on golf, How does it work in golf? Like, because Jim Furick has the word golf swing that's ever existed.

00:40:03
Speaker 16: What's one of those things where it's like all the stats you know, for example, like Rory run the Masters, and then he goes and he won the players, and then you go through and it's like statistically he's one of the best players on tour, but the eye test is telling me he's kind of in a slump even though his.

00:40:18
Speaker 17: Statistics are good. Seas and Busch's statistics last year were bad, and so it's kind of validating the eye test that it just kind of stinks.

00:40:30
Speaker 16: I think I.

00:40:32
Speaker 2: Worry about it.

00:40:33
Speaker 1: I appreciate the call because I will say this, outside of the first game of the season last year, I don't think bush Hampden's offenses looked good yet even the games we WoT like even Old Miss last year.

00:40:51
Speaker 2: I mean, remember what our big play was, Billy. We just threw a bump, just threw it up in the.

00:40:56
Speaker 1: Air, like up for grabs, and Verry I went up and got it. You know, I haven't loved, but I have not loved the bush Hampden offensive experience. But part of it may be that I just don't really know what we're doing. I don't I don't know what his game plan is. I don't know.

00:41:19
Speaker 2: You know, it looked like tonight we were pounding.

00:41:22
Speaker 1: The ball old school mark stoops run and then all of a sudden we get to the forty and back to back possessions and we throw six out of seven passes when we're in an area where all we needs like five yards to probably get a field goal that gives you a two score lead. I didn't understand that. I didn't understand the play call that led to the safety. You know, So yeah, I'm probably not totally in on it because I don't really understand what he's trying to do. Let's do two more. We'll take a break.

00:41:52
Speaker 2: Who's next?

00:41:52
Speaker 3: Cameron? Next?

00:41:53
Speaker 2: Cameron, Go ahead, Cameron, hey.

00:41:57
Speaker 14: Man, Billy, He'll be all doing all right. So, like end of this game, as I was watching the things I'm excited about, just as a Kentucky fan, the you know, the pass rush and everything has defensive lineman fantastic Aliceafarri to me him movement from defensive backs to linebacker. You can see the speed. He's all over the field. He's something that especially nets to see play. He's gonna be able to make plays on the perimeter and stuff going east to west and everything. But if Talsada can't figure out how to come off of like our run game, which which is what Markshops wants to do, and be able to put a ball downfield for twenty twenty five, yards. Then that's a problem. It's just something we've got to figure out. So you know, that's just you know, my opinion. Happy to hear your thoughts and I can hang up and listen to Yeah, No, you're right.

00:42:40
Speaker 1: I mean, he appreciates the call except for the one where he went out of bounds. That's the only time they went deep where they were getting able to get a complete and the caller, I don't know who said it. I guess it was Jerry who said they're gonna put eight nine in the box and say beat us deep. That's gonna happen. And then we have to ask or something, do we have wide receivers who can do it? And again I can't really see on the tape to know twenty four to ten, Florida State leads Alabama five minutes left in the third quarter. I keep saying this because this would be I think this would be a pretty monumental upset if it were to happen. What's next, Dennis, Dennis, go ahead, Dennis, Hey.

00:43:23
Speaker 15: Guys, a few points here. Number one, Bluegrass, that's sort of correct. That safety is on the offensive coordinator. Number two. You just mentioned it. I was there at the game the whide receivers were getting no separation.

00:43:37
Speaker 2: Okay, so you were watching, Yes.

00:43:40
Speaker 15: They got no separation today on the on they got no separation. That's a problem.

00:43:47
Speaker 2: It is a problem.

00:43:48
Speaker 1: Now again I will point out and I would if I if I hadn't heard Luckett on the pregame, I would have thought it's even more of a problem than it was. But Luckett did say that there are two of the four guys in Toledo's secondary are going to be NFL draft picks, that they are like much better than a normal max secondary. But in the SEC we're gonna be playing a lot more of those guys.

00:44:09
Speaker 15: Yeah, but yeah, that's a problem man, and play against NFL defense bats every week.

00:44:15
Speaker 1: He's exactly right, So yeah, no, you're right, You're you're exactly right.

00:44:22
Speaker 15: So that that that's amazing problem. So not all that was on Zach kels Odo today that his receivers were getting no separation. The only people that was getting I opened today, and that's probably a lot of had to do with the play call was the tight ends. Yeah, you're right that I'm very concerned about the wide receivers.

00:44:40
Speaker 1: All right, appreciate your tall and I think that's a fair I think that's the reason.

00:44:44
Speaker 2: I think that's fair.

00:44:45
Speaker 1: Remember earlier this week, bush Hampden was asked when the depth chart came out, and he said, there's three receivers and they're both oars. And he said, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Bush Hampden Billy said, I guess we'll see. Well, maybe that was maybe that was more of a bad thing than it was. We just got so many guys who can uh.

00:45:07
Speaker 3: Well, maybe he was a little too bold with his offensive line comments, so he just decided to not go that route again.

00:45:13
Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I thought their offensive line was pretty good.

00:45:17
Speaker 1: I mean they had a they have one or two breakdowns, but I considered what it.

00:45:23
Speaker 2: Was last year.

00:45:24
Speaker 1: I thought it was certainly improved. All Right, we'll take a break. We will come back for the final segment. Twenty four to sixteen, Cats beat Toledo. We got one more when we come back. It's a Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show.

00:45:37
Speaker 2: Welcome back.

00:45:38
Speaker 1: It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame Show. I'm not gonna put I'm not gonna say the last name here just because, but I do think this is a funny text on the text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person rights. My son is on t ball team. Coach back guy named Anthony. We played a game against Bush Hampden Son.

00:45:59
Speaker 2: We rushed them.

00:46:00
Speaker 1: Bush was heard commenting, Wow, their team is really well coached. He was impressed by my friend Anthony's terrible coaching. I lost all faith in him then in there.

00:46:10
Speaker 2: Oh no, poor Anthony.

00:46:18
Speaker 3: Right, he's calling him out. He's impressed by that.

00:46:24
Speaker 2: Uh did you watch the leak Horso's final thing?

00:46:26
Speaker 3: I did you get to see that?

00:46:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very sweet. Let me tell you a couple of things I thought were very nice that. First of all, how about Fox Sports showing.

00:46:34
Speaker 2: It as well on their shows. That's awesome.

00:46:39
Speaker 1: There are some things that are more important than trivialities like what network, and that was very cool. I thought it was cool that Ohio State, uh like had him be part of it. Obviously, great symbolism. First time he he did one of those was in Ohio State. Next time last time he does it is there. He was like one of only two people to pick Ohio State and he ended up being right Billy.

00:46:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, he also so it was the only person to pick Florida State and they're winning right now.

00:47:03
Speaker 3: Oh that's a homer pick from him.

00:47:05
Speaker 2: That's a homer pick. But also wouldn't it be cool to see Florida State win for him?

00:47:08
Speaker 3: That would be a little something special on this day. There would be no doubt about it.

00:47:13
Speaker 2: I you know, one of the great.

00:47:16
Speaker 1: Like we've talked about his impact on college football, and I mean everybody said it, but he also just it is incredibly sweet that in a society where we like throw people away too often when they when they get older and try to you know, forget about him, that he still was allowed to keep doing that and finish kind of on on his terms and have that moment. I just thought, like, that's what's great about He put all the nonsense that happens with college sports and all that, then you get stuff like that, and I just thought that was very cool. So a lot of people made that happen, but I thought that was great. All right, let's we'll do.

00:47:54
Speaker 2: One more segment here A five nine two eight twenty twenty seven News.

00:47:57
Speaker 3: Next, quickly on the flip side, did you see Portnoy?

00:48:01
Speaker 2: What did he do to he?

00:48:02
Speaker 3: Like he like taket trash to his trash. Yeah, I just had that.

00:48:06
Speaker 1: I mean, you gotta assume he's gonna do that. Why are you bringing him on if you don't want him to do that?

00:48:09
Speaker 2: Right?

00:48:10
Speaker 1: Isn't that the old Florida state with a huge air right? And say, get what are you doing letting the ball hit you on the punch? But I mean, Billy, if you're gonna have him on, you gotta assume he's gonna do right.

00:48:22
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:48:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean if you didn't want him to do that, then don't bring him on the show.

00:48:25
Speaker 3: To Michigan shirt got everybody and you know riled.

00:48:28
Speaker 2: He should do.

00:48:30
Speaker 1: Credit to him either, you know, if you don't want to do that, don't don't put him on the show.

00:48:36
Speaker 2: Who's next? Robbie, Robbie, go ahead, Robbie.

00:48:40
Speaker 18: Hey, guys, I was at the game of the day and I thought the atmosphere was great.

00:48:46
Speaker 8: Uh.

00:48:47
Speaker 18: I thought it one at the end of the first half. And my question would be is why didn't they ask the ball more to law?

00:48:57
Speaker 19: I felt like I felt like he was.

00:49:01
Speaker 18: I felt like he was getting open.

00:49:03
Speaker 2: Yeah I don't know.

00:49:04
Speaker 1: Well, okay, well you could see did you think he was open? I mean, I that other caller said he didn't think so I.

00:49:11
Speaker 18: Mean I did. I mean, well, what I saw there were plenty of opportunity to tell the ball to him. And another question I had was Whiston Berry. I noticed they didn't bring him back out uh after he that almost fumbled that that punt return there?

00:49:26
Speaker 1: Well you could you could understand, I don't you know. Back to your first question, I appreciate the call. Hard for me to be able to say on Law.

00:49:36
Speaker 2: I will say this.

00:49:37
Speaker 1: In the off season, they everyone around the team would tell you Law will make big plays. We'll bust it on a team where I didn't see anybody open. If he was open at all, they got to go to it because they're going they need it. I mean they they clearly don't have a ton of guys that can get separation.

00:49:55
Speaker 2: And I mean he had I don't know how many targets did he even have? Billy? Do you you know how many times they even threw it his way?

00:50:02
Speaker 3: I'd have to see, But his name wasn't a lot.

00:50:05
Speaker 2: I could think of one. But yeah, who's next? Luke? Luke? Go ahead, Luke? Well, Matt.

00:50:17
Speaker 20: Normally I am a negative nancy about games like this, but I don't want to be completely negative. I just don't think that super productive defense was solid run game, you know some positives. For sure, offensive line wasn't a disaster. But you know, Frankly, you know, I watch on the All twenty two camera and the receivers weren't really that open. But to be honest, a good quarterback throws his receivers open.

00:50:42
Speaker 1: Okay, So you watch on that, you watch on the All twenty two cameras, so you felt like there was enough that if he was if he was playing well, he could have gotten.

00:50:49
Speaker 2: Them if he was good.

00:50:52
Speaker 20: I mean, like you know, like I mean, realistically, when you're playing, when you're playing at this level, Matt, you've got to throw guys open. I mean, that's just the reality of it. These defenses are good, these guys are phenomenal athletes. You gotta throw them open. I mean, NFL. If you're gonna be a college quarterback in the SEC or the Big ten or play in the NFL, you.

00:51:11
Speaker 5: Have to throw receivers open.

00:51:13
Speaker 13: That's just how this works. You're not always going to throw the wide open guys.

00:51:18
Speaker 20: And Frankly, he can't do it. I mean, I think you give him the old miss game because I think you kind of have to. But if he stinks it up, I know you were talking about that bye week. Now you got to put him in against Eastern Michigan. You want him to have an easy game to get his feet wet because he'll be playing against the defense that isn't that great. Get in some confidence. Then you've got that bye week to work on anything that he didn't do well and fill in some holes, figure out what he does well.

00:51:42
Speaker 13: But one last thing, if I'm mad.

00:51:45
Speaker 1: Before you before you do the last part, that's actually a very good point. And that's a very good point. I mean I I sort of thought of it the way I had said, But you make a decent case in say like give him a game where because you know, remember when he started next year Cutter Bully first game, he had to go on the road to Texas, right, and now you'd make him go on the road to South Carolina. Those are tough places to get your feet wet. Go ahead with the other point.

00:52:11
Speaker 20: Yeah, I just want to say with this Bush Hampden, this dude sucks. I mean, I don't know how else you can say it other than that. I mean, you listen to the guy talked for fifteen seconds, and I got to ask, is the guy stupid or as he stoned, I mean, and if I'm asking that question, that's not a good sign, like I don't know what he's doing on the office. I mean that safety was so atrocious and that why are we calling a read option in the shadow of her own goalpost? Brook get under center and run the ball down between the tackles. You run through the a gap.

00:52:36
Speaker 2: Man.

00:52:37
Speaker 1: You you said you weren't being negative.

00:52:42
Speaker 8: They won.

00:52:43
Speaker 20: They won, So want to know you can't go twelve and oher until you're one to know?

00:52:46
Speaker 1: Right there, I appreciate it, I ended podcast.

00:52:49
Speaker 2: She hate the call.

00:52:50
Speaker 1: I love that she started that by saying, now I'm not gonna be negative, and he was yelling, let's do We'll do four more.

00:53:02
Speaker 3: Who's Jason?

00:53:04
Speaker 2: Jason ahead?

00:53:06
Speaker 5: Go ahead, Jason, Hey man, I'm laughing at the previous caller there. Just wrapping it up. I want to touch on a few things that you said on here. I'm driving home from the game. First off crowd showed up after all negativity on the off season. Crowd was there, wasn't expecting to sell out much better crowd atmosphere, our music atrocious, never got the crowd into the game hyped up. Thank god it was not a big game. O line did a good job controlling the game. We ran the ball when we needed to. Quarterback play week. Also, I want to answer a question for you, what what Shamon is doing when we get over to the fourty yard line we throw six times in a row. He's looking at a stat sheet and looking at it going, oh, we've ran the ball more times than we've thrown it. I've got to catch up with That's that is the Boise States play calling system. That's what they want to do. They want to be fifty to fifty on.

00:53:55
Speaker 8: All play callings.

00:53:57
Speaker 5: Terrible way to look at it. Go get us a field goal range in that game us. That's my thoughts on it. Uh agreed, I agree with the previous call.

00:54:04
Speaker 2: Goodhead.

00:54:05
Speaker 5: I was gonna say, agree with the previous caller. If Gal comes out looks like third against O miss, we've got to make the call to move the ball. And the last point I was going to make is receivers are decently opened. But also that goes onto play calling. We've got to do a better job of making play calls to open our receivers up. We are running too much play option, which leads to two routes. Those are either a slant orn't out, and those are easy things to cover if they know they're coming. That's to you good.

00:54:36
Speaker 1: It's all all good points. I mean, I agree with with with virtually all of them. Potentially what you say about the Boise State thing. I don't know that I've heard that their goal is to do fifty to fifty. But if it is the case that he's looking to there and going, we need to pass the same amount as a run, especially in a game like this where you're owning the line of scrimmage, that would be.

00:54:56
Speaker 2: A huge mistake. I just I'm really really hated those play calls.

00:54:59
Speaker 1: I don't it's like a third time I brought them up, but I really hated them because I genuinely thought, if we can get this to a two score game, it's over. And that ended up happening, but it took way too long. We had multiple opportunities to get it to a two score game. I even thought, if we have a field go, we're gonna be fine. And it took a long time, and if it wasn't for well, I guess I guess dal Dall's was the one that got to twenty four points. But nevertheless, that should have happened earlier. And I don't know why we threw on those on those calls. Three more, who's next?

00:55:30
Speaker 3: We have a young Wendell on the phone.

00:55:31
Speaker 2: Wendell, how are you within?

00:55:34
Speaker 18: Good?

00:55:36
Speaker 2: Good? What's up?

00:55:42
Speaker 21: I went to the game with my dad. I was driving back.

00:55:47
Speaker 2: I think you were driving. Wait a minute, did you drive? Hang on, did you drive?

00:55:55
Speaker 9: No?

00:55:57
Speaker 2: I don't think you have a license.

00:56:00
Speaker 21: Mmm, uh yeah. And I think the running backs are way better. We did a bad play call on a safety, Yes we did.

00:56:16
Speaker 2: We all right, well let me tell you.

00:56:18
Speaker 1: If you're gonna get behind the wheel, remember buckle up window and put your phone down.

00:56:23
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, all right, there you go.

00:56:26
Speaker 3: Thanks RNDAM.

00:56:28
Speaker 1: You gotta be safe. I thought that was a good call. I don't want to hear your mouth, Billy.

00:56:32
Speaker 3: What's Jimmy is next?

00:56:34
Speaker 2: Jimmy?

00:56:34
Speaker 12: Go ahead, Jimmy, Hey, Jimmy, can hear you?

00:56:37
Speaker 4: Just fine?

00:56:38
Speaker 3: Matt, be honest.

00:56:40
Speaker 6: So Jimmy's a little he's.

00:56:42
Speaker 3: Still a little down.

00:56:43
Speaker 16: Uh.

00:56:44
Speaker 6: I moved little Jimmy into school last week.

00:56:47
Speaker 4: Kind of been pout and looking forward to the day to kind of lift my spirits up.

00:56:52
Speaker 15: And.

00:56:54
Speaker 2: He just didn't do it, not at all. I don't know.

00:56:58
Speaker 6: I just I just wish part.

00:57:01
Speaker 1: Of it is, I think part of it. And you tell me if you agree with this, Jimmy. For me, it's about what you wanted to have happened.

00:57:08
Speaker 2: Okay.

00:57:08
Speaker 1: So if you looked at this and said, I want to feel really good about this team and I want to come out of this thinking we're gonna go to a bowl, then yeah, I could see how this would be a little disappointing.

00:57:19
Speaker 2: I came into it saying, we cannot lose this game.

00:57:23
Speaker 1: If we lose this game, the marks toops ERA might be like on its way to be an over.

00:57:29
Speaker 2: We cannot lose this game.

00:57:31
Speaker 1: So from that perspective, I guess I'm not as down because my goal was just do not loose.

00:57:40
Speaker 6: I get that, but I'm tired of being that way. I want to be.

00:57:42
Speaker 20: I want to beat these.

00:57:43
Speaker 6: Type of teams like an SEC team.

00:57:45
Speaker 4: Should you know what I mean?

00:57:47
Speaker 2: I do?

00:57:48
Speaker 1: But remember this team beat pitt in Mississippi State last year. Now that, now granted was awful. Last year, they were awful, So I mean yes, you need to do better.

00:57:59
Speaker 2: All right.

00:58:00
Speaker 4: One last thing, So when do you think we will have an over three hundred yards passing game out of this offense?

00:58:07
Speaker 2: Are we talking year? Like? Oh? Yeah, I don't not this year? Yeah, I don't know what's the over under on games? Uh, I will say.

00:58:24
Speaker 4: I'm gonna say twenty because the problem.

00:58:27
Speaker 1: Here's the problem with getting three hundred yards when we're playing some of these teams like Tennessee Martin. If they could do it, they don't want to do it because they don't want to embarrass them.

00:58:36
Speaker 2: Right, So I'm gonna say.

00:58:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a problem, gonna say here's what I'm here's what we're gonna do it. I appreciate the call, Billy, We're gonna we're gonna get the We're gonna get three hundred yards passing when we play our second MAC team in twenty twenty seven.

00:58:57
Speaker 3: Hold on, let me stand on second.

00:59:00
Speaker 1: But the equivalent of the Eastern Michigan game in twenty twenty seven.

00:59:05
Speaker 3: Oh okay, all right, that's when we do it.

00:59:07
Speaker 1: So it's like game three, right because basically our schedules going into a pattern. Now, bad team first SEC game, bad team, that second bad team is twenty twenty seven, we're throwing for three hundred years?

00:59:20
Speaker 3: Well do we have that?

00:59:21
Speaker 1: Now?

00:59:21
Speaker 3: With nine conference games they had to back up Kent State to like twenty thirty one or something like that. Good point, will they ever throw for three hundred yards?

00:59:34
Speaker 2: Never?

00:59:34
Speaker 8: All?

00:59:34
Speaker 2: Right? One more?

00:59:35
Speaker 12: Who's that?

00:59:36
Speaker 3: Travis?

00:59:37
Speaker 2: Travis? Go ahead, Travis.

00:59:38
Speaker 19: Hey, Matt this first time coler who I've just had a question. I hope that you can answer for me. Back home where Leah, I can't really talk to nobody about football because all they can answer is, oh, we're a basketball school and that's why we got a good football school. And my question is always then is you know Referreena, I've been there, and I've been to the Kroger Field. Reperena holds twenty some thousand Kroger Field. I believed seventy and without saying much more, my question is why can't we be a football school and a basketball school? With what I just said, with going into well there, we could be up there with this is a much broader Here's the.

01:00:32
Speaker 1: Big reason why. Okay, here's the big reason why. There's many reasons demographic, we don't. We don't. We don't produce talent like a lot of these other states. In our state, we don't have the history.

01:00:47
Speaker 2: Resources.

01:00:48
Speaker 1: We have good resources, but we don't have great resources. And the other thing is what you said about the first part. Remember all these other schools like they don't care about basketball. Really, Alabama's been good recently, but at some point inn and Oats will probably go do go do something else. They don't really care. But the biggest thing is demographics. Like the state of Kentucky, we do not produce football players. We are never playing a home game in recruiting except for like two or three kids a year. And like in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia, we're like farther away from those schools than all the schools that are recruiting now. In a world of money, and I appreciate the call. In a world of money, that stuff matters a little less. But these other schools have money too, Like we, you know, we have a couple of really big donors who write really big checks.

01:01:46
Speaker 2: But here's the thing.

01:01:47
Speaker 1: Alabama, Georgia, auburt they got like a bunch of those people.

01:01:52
Speaker 2: We have two.

01:01:54
Speaker 1: I mean, we have a lot of other people that give money but we only like they've got a ton of people. So you're in an arms race with teams that have everything we have and more, and we already start behind them because we don't really have a history and we don't really produce players in our state.

01:02:16
Speaker 2: So that's the short answer to what is a kind of long question.

01:02:20
Speaker 1: And oh yeah, we share the state with Louisville, not all these states like Louisiana, Georgia. They don't really share the state with other programs recruiting the same kind of players. So it just means for a lot of reasons that we're behind. However, we did beat Toledo twenty four sixteen. We get the victory. We start one to zero, which was the most important thing. And now next week is old Miss. We got a whole week to get ready for it. But before then, enjoy your Labor Day weekend. I will be on ESPN tomorrow morning. We will not have a show on Monday. Also remember ks Bar is closed on Monday as well, if you were wanting to do that. And then next week we're back in back rady to go. We'll be back there on Tuesday for the show. Billy, thank you very much for u for staying with us. Everybody, have a great Saturday night LSU and Clemson. This evening should be fun. This has been the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show
