Smith Law Office. If you call TJ. He'll make them pay. Beautiful day and one day before basketball tomorrow, the UK basketball season opens with an exhibition against the number one team in the country. 00:01:20 Speaker 5: Uh, I was, I was looking kind through history. 00:01:23 Speaker 4: Probably you could argue the second best team Kentucky will ever play has ever played in the exhibitions. I would say when we played the Soviet national team is probably the last time we played a team better than this one. 00:01:37 Speaker 6: That was like an eighty eight or something, right, Yeah, no disrespect to Transylvania. Kentucky wasn't in Georgetown. 00:01:43 Speaker 5: But are you disrespecting the Soviet national team? 00:01:46 Speaker 6: No, that was a big deal. That was a huge pr thing for you know, that's when we're still fighting with the Soviet Union, by the things, and. 00:01:53 Speaker 7: We were fighting. 00:01:54 Speaker 6: Yeah, are I personally wasn't fighting. 00:02:00 Speaker 7: You didn't have anything against it? 00:02:01 Speaker 6: I had nothing against them. 00:02:02 Speaker 4: Did well, they came here and played I think it was eighty eight. It was eighty eight or eighty four one of those two times. 00:02:07 Speaker 7: Earlier early eighties, Joebie Hall was the coach. 00:02:10 Speaker 4: Maybe eighty four, but they came and played here. Uh but this is probably the second best. And I'm getting excited me too. 00:02:16 Speaker 7: I mean, I missed the old days when Czechoslovakia would come to town. I think we beat China a couple of years in the eighties. But now the number one team preseason number one, you get a real test of what your team looks like. 00:02:27 Speaker 4: Even though play a lot of countries. We played, uh, Japan, we played. 00:02:32 Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like we had that one. But we played Czechoslovakia when Czechoslovakia was good. 00:02:37 Speaker 7: We lost to Czechoslovakia. 00:02:38 Speaker 4: Well, but I mean, think about all the countries that now themselves have great basketball teams that at one time were all together in Czechoslovakia. 00:02:48 Speaker 7: Have you thought about that? 00:02:49 Speaker 6: I haven't thought about that. 00:02:50 Speaker 7: You should have. 00:02:50 Speaker 6: But the basketball Exhibition came back then they see they would play a foreign country and then they played Marathon Oil. 00:02:56 Speaker 4: But Marathon Oil would be good. It wasn't good guys that were at Marathon Oil. It was like people who like they went and got pros to play, or it wasn't just like employees. 00:03:06 Speaker 7: My first UK basketball game, they beat athletes in action and I don't don't even know what that was. I think they just pulled people out of the YMCA. But I still another one. 00:03:13 Speaker 4: They would have professional players that would come play athletes and action. 00:03:17 Speaker 5: I think also beat us one year when when we were here. 00:03:19 Speaker 6: Am I right, well, I think that was that the year that Keith Bogans had last second shot to beat them. 00:03:24 Speaker 4: You're exactly good memory. So these are all exhibition games the past. I think this Purdue one, uh will be big. I want to talk about that game some, but I want to start Ryan. Uh, you know, mister Scoop over here breaking scoop from years ago. I'm going to read you. Uh, you know, Justin Justin Rowland is uh he does. He works for Cats Illustrate, which is now part of ON three. So there was a time it was well, for most of my career doing KSR, there was always uh used to be Cats Paused and it was Cat's Illustrated. 00:03:56 Speaker 5: There was tension between Cats illustrating KSR. 00:03:58 Speaker 4: Well, now we're we're on the same so I feel like when you're on the same team, Uh, there's no use. 00:04:04 Speaker 5: That's all gone, right, Drew. 00:04:05 Speaker 7: I mean we use the same breakroom fridge. I mean he could eat my spaghetti and often he's always eating your spaghetti. 00:04:11 Speaker 4: Okay, So he did a post last night on Cat's Illustrating, and I would say to you, if you subscribe to ks R Plus. 00:04:16 Speaker 5: Now you get Cats Illustrated for free. 00:04:18 Speaker 7: And there's a lot of scoopy talk. 00:04:20 Speaker 4: Now, you have to when you when you when you're when you're in coaching season, you have to be careful how you navigate the scoop. Right, There's there's some people I listen to. There are some people I don't. There's some people I have listen to. You kind of have to do that, right, gotta run through a filter. You do have to run it through a filter. And then some people get too excited. Some people don't. When it comes to football, generally speaking, if Justin says something, I generally think if he's not one hundred percent right, he's in the ballpark. 00:04:48 Speaker 5: Okay, So I I I listen. 00:04:50 Speaker 4: Now he had a lot to say, and Ryan, I want your take on some of this I want and we will give ours as well. Now this is I'm gonna I'm gonna summarize. He had a lot of things on there. But let's start with this. The talk after the Texas game that it was somehow signaled from someone that Stoops would be willing to talk about what's next after the season that had not been signaled before. 00:05:16 Speaker 7: Agree or disagree the. 00:05:18 Speaker 6: Way he handled the postgame press conference, that leads me to believe that maybe there's little truth to that. And when sometimes when I when I read something like that, I think there's gotta be a little truth in there somewhere. 00:05:29 Speaker 4: So I would agree Drew, except I would say this was signaled before the Texas game. I think this was something that's been signaled really since the bye week. 00:05:37 Speaker 7: But what do you think? I would agree with it without even hearing any rumors talking to anyone that press conference two minutes into it, my brain went, this feels like a goodbye it did. This feels like he's accepted that it's over in this moment. 00:05:50 Speaker 5: He didn't said. 00:05:50 Speaker 4: Sources say Stoops has been worn out about all of this for quite some time. 00:05:55 Speaker 5: That's one hundred percent true. Would you agree? 00:05:58 Speaker 6: I agree. He's one of those guys that, well we know from past conversations, he listens, he feels it, he understands where the heat's coming from. 00:06:06 Speaker 4: Next one people around the program have said that a lot of things have made UK go downhill, one of which is they went from a rock star staff to quote hires of convenience. 00:06:16 Speaker 6: Agree or disagree, I agree with not all hires, but yes there are some. As we like to call him there, Jeff Ruby hires. I think there's been a couple who calls them that. Well, just maybe me and my boys, you and your boys. Yeah, me and my boys, you and Gavin. I'll include him though he has no idea that football coach is Mark. 00:06:34 Speaker 7: Dude can walk in. 00:06:35 Speaker 6: Here right now and my son would not know who he was, But. 00:06:37 Speaker 7: He calls him hires of convenience. Hires. Oh no, Jeff Ruby hiers. Okay, Jeff Ruby, Sorry, Drew, Yeah, I can believe that. I mean, people have been here a long time. I mean, brother, I'm not calling out anyone individually, but you could see the case that he's hires as his crew. 00:06:50 Speaker 4: There is a divide on the staff between the Youngstown crew and the non Youngstown crew. The non Youngstown crew believing that stoops his close young Town guys make the decisions. 00:07:03 Speaker 6: I have no opinion on that, but like I said, lots of no opinion, okay, but a lot of time when I hear something like that. I feel like there's always just a little truth in when guys like Justin vallan reporter, there's gonna be a little truth to it. 00:07:14 Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't speak on this, but it would not shock me at all. I mean you would have to think he probably listens to his brother and his childhood friends over people he doesn't know as well. 00:07:24 Speaker 5: So I don't think that would be strange. 00:07:26 Speaker 7: Not at all. And there's I've heard of little just assistant coach bickering over the years that that can happen and probably has been boiling over when they can't win. He wrote. 00:07:35 Speaker 4: People criticize Vince Mayrill a lot for putting his name out there, but Vince being on the staff allowed Stoops more freedom to do things he didn't usually have to do, including raising money and recruiting. Now Stoops is having to do parts of the job that Vince used to take care of. 00:07:50 Speaker 6: Agree with that or disagree. I don't agree with that. Yeah, I think Vince did a lot of that work. 00:07:56 Speaker 4: I think, I mean, Vince's job was recruiting, so that's not surprising. I think he did fundraising too, and I think that was you know, there were a lot of guys in Lexington who loved being around Vince and who like you know, they wanted to give a half million dollars so they go sit with Vince, liked being out with him and doing the thing. And now that's had to fall to some other people when you sort of don't have your your social you know, the social chair. 00:08:22 Speaker 7: That one is five hundred percent true. I mean, we joke a little bit about seeing Vince out, but when I would see Vince out, he would be at a table with some important people exactly, and I can only imagine that he's there to entertain them and try to get them to give to the program. 00:08:35 Speaker 4: That's an underrated part of Vince's appeal was the he just he could make you feel everyone. He could make you feel like you were the most important person on the world, hit you on the back and go, hey, I want to be this guy when I grow up. 00:08:50 Speaker 6: That's why I'm. 00:08:51 Speaker 4: Telling you like that works. Even rich people like to be coddled. They probably like to be coddled even more than everyone else. 00:08:57 Speaker 7: I've watched him personally offer a rich ca son that's in high school, but it's more of like even the kid knows it's more of like a meeting, but like the kids like a D three, but it's more of just like giving him the attention to college. I want you to come, and then the dad's sitting there just eating it up. Uh. Boosters are not thrilled. 00:09:14 Speaker 4: I've heard from ano number of people that they feel like they gave money to guys who aren't even playing or who were overpaid. 00:09:21 Speaker 6: One hundred percent agree on that. We've got a couple of guys that have not paid one snap that are getting a lot of money this year. 00:09:26 Speaker 4: There's one guy on the team who's not who's not played one snap, who met, who's making seven hundred and fifty thousand. 00:09:32 Speaker 7: Dollars And that was a problem last year before. Yeah, we've had Managing the funds is a big issue of who where, who needs to get it. 00:09:40 Speaker 4: Multiple people with voiced the belief that if Stoops were to return, for whatever reason, he would probably have to get rid of most of the staff and quote, I just don't think he'd be up for that. That's that, remember that was That's how Tubby ended up leaving. Basically is he wouldn't where, he wouldn't switch his staff. 00:09:57 Speaker 6: Yeah, some coach like that guy Morris was went to bat for his staff and went left for Baylor. I mean the coaches that believe in He's shown his loyalty to a lot of these guys on the staff already, So I think that's partly true what you're saying right there. 00:10:10 Speaker 7: Yeah, but for a pr move the fan base, if he were to stay, I think he would have to do that. He'd have to. 00:10:15 Speaker 4: Now, remember we did our one two three list of who the coaches would be. I assume this is justin Rowland's list. He lists them as will Stein would be one. 00:10:27 Speaker 5: He says some. 00:10:28 Speaker 4: Raw would be interested, but thinks he'll be at Auburn. That's exactly what I said as well. And then he also added the name PJ. 00:10:34 Speaker 5: Fleck. That's that guy who what did he do? 00:10:37 Speaker 7: Rose the boat, rows the boat. He also last week said when he goes home, he just watches coaches press conferences before he goes to bed. Like that's he doesn't watch TV shows, He just watches other coaches press conferences. 00:10:48 Speaker 5: You like that, Shannon, a guy who watches press conference. 00:10:51 Speaker 3: Men seems like he's into what he's doing. 00:10:53 Speaker 4: He rows the boat, wat house on the prairie and then he has this the third one, Bob Chesney. 00:10:59 Speaker 5: I don't know who that is. 00:11:00 Speaker 7: That Kenny's brother. I don't know Bob Chesney. 00:11:04 Speaker 4: Who's Bob chan I don't know, Shannon, look up Bob, James Madison. 00:11:09 Speaker 3: Bob Chesney. 00:11:11 Speaker 4: Yeah, it feels like you're trying to say Kenny Chesney, but you accidentally mess it up. Bob Chesney. All right, you look him up and tell me who he is. He also says Brian Hartline is another. 00:11:21 Speaker 7: So the names. 00:11:22 Speaker 3: He's a football coach of James Madden, James Matt. 00:11:24 Speaker 5: He's the guy that replaced signatty at James Matt. 00:11:27 Speaker 6: You know a lot of people they ask you always say the Wilston has connections to Kentucky little can you go over those? I think people don't know what his connections are with Kentucky? Who will Stein? 00:11:37 Speaker 7: Will Stein? 00:11:38 Speaker 4: Well, he's from Lexington, grew up a Kentucky fan. Dad played here. So even though he was quarterback at Louisville, Remember he got taken out of the game to put Lamar. He was the quarterback at Louisville and got replaced for for was it Lamar or Teddy? 00:11:53 Speaker 7: One of the. 00:11:55 Speaker 6: But Justin Burke was one of them got taken out. Stein was the other one, but he said maybe it was Teddy, but but he was. 00:12:02 Speaker 4: He was quarterback a little but he grew up a Kentucky fan and his dad played at Kentucky. 00:12:06 Speaker 7: He went to what Catholic is a Trinity kid. 00:12:09 Speaker 6: I think, I don't think he's grew up in Lexington, Louisville, grew up in Louisville. 00:12:13 Speaker 5: But I'm right about his dad playing again. 00:12:14 Speaker 6: Dad definitely played here. He's got family that still live here in Lexington. 00:12:18 Speaker 5: Okay, so that's where I get there. 00:12:20 Speaker 7: And he and Rich Brooks just seem me boys. I mentioned this yesterday, but there's several pictures of them, because you know Rich is big at Oregon. He's going to games and he's got his arm around will Stein. That's a conversation. I would assume they've they've had a couple of times. Uh. 00:12:32 Speaker 5: This is I think an important one and this is kind of the uh uh, this is the new one. 00:12:38 Speaker 7: Uh. 00:12:38 Speaker 4: There's an honest belief that the UK athletics department overall administration will look very different in a relatively short period of time. President a d football coach could all turn over in a short period of time. I can't speak on the president, although you would just think by age, Eli Cappeludo is not going to do this forever. 00:12:59 Speaker 5: I would be surprised if Mitch Barnhardt is. 00:13:00 Speaker 4: The AD after next year, like just like I think he would do this year and if I were gassing one. 00:13:08 Speaker 5: But that's not like anybody pushing him out. 00:13:10 Speaker 4: I just think he's done it for so long, and I think in his mind he wants to transition us into this new era. So I think that's true, but it also might play an effect on what you do, right, do you want to do? You think Mitch wants to hire the coach to leave to his new guy. Do you want to let the new guy leave? He says that he justin seems to think that the new A d would be Eric Monday. 00:13:35 Speaker 6: Don't know that name? 00:13:37 Speaker 7: Wasn't he? Here? 00:13:39 Speaker 6: I don't I don't know that name? 00:13:42 Speaker 7: Do you don't know who wasn't he? Who's Who's Eric Monday? I think, like, U, oh, now, yeah. 00:13:51 Speaker 4: I mean I don't know Eric Monday. He may be as good as Eric Tuesday, but I just I think you've when you get it. 00:13:57 Speaker 7: Vice President for Finance and administrative executive vice president for health affairs. 00:14:01 Speaker 5: Okay, so that would maybe be the new president, then that wouldn't be. 00:14:03 Speaker 7: The new age. Yeah, he's not athletic. 00:14:06 Speaker 4: I don't know, all right, but I do think you need when you get a new AD, I feel the same way I do about a coach. You need to go get a person who understands this new modern landscape, who's a business oriented person. I think the days of getting like a former athlete or whatever, like those days are all over. You gotta go get a business person. I mean, now, run an athletics department. You're running almost a billion dollar corporation now, right, Like you need a business person. 00:14:32 Speaker 5: The sports part is almost secondary. 00:14:35 Speaker 4: And then you know, get somebody on your assistant who understands coaches but like it's a business now. 00:14:39 Speaker 6: You know. Barnhart's the longest tenured AD in the South Eastern Conference. Mark Studs is the longest tenured coach in the Southeastern Conference. 00:14:46 Speaker 4: So's to the end of next year. Is Mitch Barnhart the AD? 00:14:51 Speaker 7: Yeah? 00:14:52 Speaker 5: You think he goes more than a year and a half. 00:14:54 Speaker 6: And here's why I think that. I don't think Mitch is a type of guy that would hire a coach and then step out. I think he. I think he'd let the new guy. 00:15:02 Speaker 5: Well, that would mean he might leave. 00:15:03 Speaker 6: Now maybe I would lean quicker sooner than later. I don't I don't. 00:15:08 Speaker 5: See you think he might leave like this year. 00:15:10 Speaker 7: I was surprised. 00:15:11 Speaker 6: I'm surprised he's still here. 00:15:12 Speaker 5: Actually sounds like me. 00:15:14 Speaker 7: I don't know what about, like what scoop or what he's just. 00:15:19 Speaker 6: I just felt like a couple of years ago he was kind of done, but then he, like you said, he wanted to usher in this new era with the nil world, and he said, this entertainment. 00:15:26 Speaker 5: Differs in a year. 00:15:29 Speaker 4: Then you could make an argument he should let the new guy pick the ad. There is an argument about that if you had to replace a coach. 00:15:37 Speaker 7: Yeah, And I wondered, even when Mitch was hiring Pope, I've always thought Mitch has a foot out the door, just simply because he's been here. When you get here like two thousand, yeah, twenty years, nineteen fifty, I mean, he's not gonna do it forever. So I've just always thought Mitch is close. And I wondered when he hired Pope if there was other influence, like if he's considering who he was handing it all. 00:15:56 Speaker 6: Let's talk about Mitch Parhart. The man has not aged a day since he was hired and early two thousand he still looks like super young. What's he drinking? Some kind of fountain of youth mojo drink? He's got drink? 00:16:06 Speaker 7: Is that what you want to make? You want to talk more about his appearance? 00:16:09 Speaker 6: Either guy is not aged, must be that Annabelle Doll working with him or something. I don't know what's going on there. 00:16:14 Speaker 7: What does that even mean? 00:16:16 Speaker 5: See, he let him go too long. 00:16:19 Speaker 4: Things just he runs out of things to say, and so he just puts other stuff out. 00:16:22 Speaker 7: I'd say the last couple of years probably Pull eight. 00:16:26 Speaker 4: Eighth, twenty two eighty seven. So that that's what Roland said yesterday. I think all of those are for the most part, correct points and worth worth considering as we talk about what's gonna happen over these next few weeks. We're gonna talk a little Kentucky burdu little Kentucky Texas, and uh, some stories from yesterday. 00:16:43 Speaker 5: We'll be right back. It's a KSR. 00:16:47 Speaker 4: November twenty fourth, nineteen eighty seven. We beat USSR seventy five seventy two. How much tickets were for that game in nineteen eighty seven? Tickets for UK versus is USSR. Was it six dollars? 00:17:03 Speaker 6: Six dollars of the big deal? 00:17:06 Speaker 5: Six dollars. 00:17:07 Speaker 7: You could have gone, that's pretty good. 00:17:09 Speaker 6: It is really good. I heard tickets for tomorrow night, Lauren is like seven hundred dollars. 00:17:14 Speaker 4: Same thing, six dollars, seven hundred dollars. Yeah, tickets online. These tickets for tomorrow are some of the highest I've seen for UH for a game in a long time. 00:17:25 Speaker 7: I don't know if somebody would pay for him, but I was also for two thousand. 00:17:28 Speaker 5: Like for a none like cow returns. 00:17:30 Speaker 7: Yeah, they were some for two thousand. 00:17:32 Speaker 5: They'll go down. Yeah that just the fact that it was listed for them. People really want to go. 00:17:35 Speaker 4: One person writes, this is somebody that this isn't text machine, this is friend of the of the program. Okay, rites and says, Matt. Get to know the name Eric Monday. That will be the next president of UK sooner rather than later. 00:17:48 Speaker 7: So there you go. 00:17:49 Speaker 5: You may have heard that name either first in what Justin wrote or here. 00:17:53 Speaker 4: If you've never heard the name, come Monday, it'll be all right, Shannon, come Monday, he'll be holding UK tight. 00:17:59 Speaker 3: I love it. 00:18:00 Speaker 2: I don't even know who this guy is, but he's got a great name for us to play off puns. 00:18:03 Speaker 7: Yeah, it's right, we can. We can do that. 00:18:05 Speaker 6: I just hope fake El like Cappoluttle comes back. 00:18:07 Speaker 4: On Twitter, one person writes, Matt, here's what Eric Monday, how important he is? The next football coach will be what Eric Monday. 00:18:15 Speaker 5: Wants it to be. 00:18:16 Speaker 7: Who is this person? He runs the world? 00:18:18 Speaker 5: Wow Monday? 00:18:19 Speaker 7: Who knew? 00:18:20 Speaker 6: Wow Monday? 00:18:21 Speaker 7: I could see the new president wanting their own ad like I could see a trickle. 00:18:27 Speaker 4: But the new well, they're not going to hire a football coach without the president clearing it. So if they know he's going to be the president, I could see it. I mean, that's not a crazy idea. 00:18:35 Speaker 7: So when we're wondering how long mitches staying, Eli Eli goes first, you know the new president might want his own guy, which it's. 00:18:42 Speaker 4: Fake Eli, which hasn't existed in a long time. But maybe we can have a fake Eric Monday. 00:18:48 Speaker 2: Can we say they're just staying until Monday? 00:18:51 Speaker 6: Faky like Capoloto would always sweet in all caps. 00:18:53 Speaker 4: Too, I'm gonna go ahead and say, uh, the scuttle buddy is Eric Monday, President of the UK. Okay, Well, if you're Ic Monday, you're like, man, I was having a normal fires day and then they put this out here and now everyone knows who I'm like. I'd like to see the Google searches for Eric Monday today. 00:19:10 Speaker 7: Probably people running to a radio over there. 00:19:13 Speaker 5: There's somebody in his office. 00:19:14 Speaker 6: Eric, you might want to turn on KS right now. 00:19:17 Speaker 4: Eric, I need you to know things have changed a little bit for our day today. Right, it's just a rowing not me if I'm nine two o twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two four five two five four, let's. 00:19:30 Speaker 5: Talk you, k Purdue? Are we gonna win? 00:19:32 Speaker 7: Andrew? Absolutely? I think the crowd. I mean, you don't just come in here and beat Kentucky and Reperena and does that ever happen? I can't remember, Tom, that's happened. I would have lost before. Yeah, that was the old coach. Times have changed. I lost last year. That was last year to the old coach. Still my point remains, we have not lost this year. I would prefer low to be healthy. I'd really feel good. But I'm believing in the Cats early. Purdue's got a lot of new players too. 00:20:00 Speaker 6: That's to think if Lowe was healthy, because Purdue's best players their point guard. That Smith guy, he's a you know, he's an All the first team. He's gonna be super He's. 00:20:08 Speaker 5: Probably National Player of the year favorite. 00:20:11 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:20:11 Speaker 7: Yeah, And there was a time Perdue thought we were gonna steal him in the offseason, So there's a little bit of blood there. 00:20:17 Speaker 4: If he wins National Player of the Year, who would have ever thought Purdue would have three of the last four national players the year. Let's go even further, if he wins National Player of the Year, there'll be more National Players of the Year from. 00:20:30 Speaker 7: Purdue than Kentucky in history. And name your favorite Perdue in CAA tournament memory. 00:20:36 Speaker 6: Them losing in the first round. 00:20:38 Speaker 7: They made the championship the years ago. 00:20:44 Speaker 4: I don't think I don't know whether or not we're gonna win because I don't know how we're playing the game, Like are we playing it seriously now? I mean, you see these scores coming from exhibition games all around the country. Teams are playing them weird. I mean, Houston lost to Old Mess, but then they didn't play like their top three guys. They just did other stuff. So the thing is, you don't really know what. I don't know how us or them. I don't know how we're gonna handle it. So I hope Polpe plays it as a real game. But my guess is he's also gonna want to play everybody and see. 00:21:12 Speaker 5: So I actually think. 00:21:14 Speaker 4: I don't want to say it doesn't matter, because it does matter to see how do we look against them? But I actually don't know if the final result matters. 00:21:23 Speaker 7: You know, there were low being out. He'll shuffle a lot more people at point guard just to see who's capable for the season. Because this is a new predicament. He didn't expect to be in stea win. 00:21:32 Speaker 6: They'll play to win. But you're right, he'll play a lot of different combinations. Give you know, Aberdeen may start at point guard, but Colin Chandler run the point for Glad to bit just trying to gasper will probably run the point for at a little bit. 00:21:42 Speaker 4: Perdue may do the same thing they're assuming Purdue is gonna play. I mean, Purdue maybe be doing the same thing. I'm playing guys. I don't know now the difference is This game is on the SEC network regular right, so a lot most exhibition games aren't even televised. This game is going to be available. So I do want under to what extent drew the coaches play into that. Knowing the national the country of basketball fans is watching this game. It's not true of these other games. 00:22:09 Speaker 7: And even though you know the winner, loss won't matter. Some opinions will be formed by the fans one way another looks and that will matter. And we're five minutes left in the game. They're gonna try to win. I just think the first thirty five minutes probably shuffling new rotations, lineups, just to see what they have. 00:22:22 Speaker 5: Here's what I know about Mark Pope. 00:22:24 Speaker 4: Unlike col he knows the fans and there he thinks their opinion matters. And we've talked about all the time, most important two days at work, your first day, in your last day. This is your first day with this team, right, It's gonna matter to people how they look, and I think Mark knows that, so he's gonna want it to look good. 00:22:44 Speaker 6: Yeah, and our fan base. We win the game, we're gonna be hanging the banner the next day. 00:22:48 Speaker 5: We win the game, I'm talking trash all season. 00:22:52 Speaker 6: Amen. 00:22:53 Speaker 5: And if we lose the game, then it didn't matter. 00:22:55 Speaker 7: If we win, we were citing it as on the resume. If we lose it didn't count. 00:22:59 Speaker 5: It did now because we would have won because of something else. 00:23:03 Speaker 7: If they win, they should play in the seating. 00:23:05 Speaker 5: But if we were, if we won, we're the ones. TJ. 00:23:09 Speaker 7: Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. 00:23:11 Speaker 3: He'll make them pay now. 00:23:13 Speaker 2: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:16 Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:17 Speaker 5: This is my favorite Jimmy Buffett song. 00:23:19 Speaker 3: Shit probably mine too. 00:23:21 Speaker 4: I really like, I'm not a huge Jimmy Buffett guy. I know Drew over here is, but but but come Monday is my favorite, Uh, Jimmy buff I actually think it's kind of beautiful. 00:23:31 Speaker 7: Honestly. 00:23:32 Speaker 4: There's a video I have saved on TikTok of Jimmy Buffett singing it on David Letterman just like acoustic, and it's absolutely gorgeous. 00:23:42 Speaker 7: To my top three, it's a great song. What's your what are your top three? Uh? A Poate looks at forty is number one by far, and having just turned forty, I played a little bit more than I usually do. Uh. I hate saying cheezburger and Paradise, but he gets the yeah, yeah, he went to Paris. 00:24:00 Speaker 5: Uh, well, hey, I have some more information. 00:24:03 Speaker 7: Uh. 00:24:04 Speaker 4: You know his Eric Monday's son named Jack Monday is on the football team right now. So if he wants inside information about what's going on, presumably he knows. 00:24:15 Speaker 6: Jack Munday was a great player at Lexton Catholic. I didn't realize that was Eric Monday's son. 00:24:20 Speaker 4: One person writes on the text machine, Matt, you've gotten wrong information. The next president of UK will be Bob Tuesday. 00:24:27 Speaker 5: I don't know. 00:24:27 Speaker 4: I think that's funny. That's a good job. We don't do the text of the day, but that would be my text of the day. All right, that's gonna be my my text today. We have there's some news. I won't say it's breaking news because it came out a couple hours ago. Uh, but uh, Terry Rozier has been arrested by the FBI for uh illegal gambling related to basketball. And then Chauncey Billups, the coach coach of the Portland Trails Blazers, arrested by the FBI for gambling related to illegal poker games. So apparently poker games that are backed by the mafia in New York. So for me, those are two different things. I meank the Terry Rogier. If you're betting on basketball and you play basketball very bad, that's the kind of thing because you have the ability to influence that and that's very bad. 00:25:24 Speaker 7: Yes, they got Cavs coach Damon Jones too on the more of the sports gambling end. 00:25:30 Speaker 4: So those guys are in trouble, yes, I mean they're in trouble now. I don't know the details, so there may be more details. I'm not as outraged by the poker I mean I was saying to Ryan earlier. 00:25:42 Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not. 00:25:43 Speaker 4: Gonna call anybody out, but if illegal poker games are. 00:25:49 Speaker 7: Are gonna get the FBI after you. 00:25:52 Speaker 5: I know some folks in Lexington that need. 00:25:54 Speaker 4: To be calling their lawyers because there are some there are some high profile poker games that happened here in this city. 00:26:02 Speaker 5: I don't know if they're backed by the mafia. 00:26:04 Speaker 4: Probably not, but I but that one surprises me a little bit because there's illegal poker games in New York everywhere. 00:26:11 Speaker 7: There's underground poker in every town, every town. I used to go to a guy's garage in Madisonville that wasn't a lot of money. But you can find a game of poker in any town. Bother me, I think when the this and the FBI is involved, it's probably more of a mafia laundering money kind of thing, or actually running a business. Even rich people. 00:26:29 Speaker 5: Like them going after the mafia. 00:26:32 Speaker 7: Like, but if it's people launering money, if child's just say Chancey's just playing, I don't think that's a big deal. And that probably that's why I think this is probably a bigger operation. Like if some rich guys, somebody goes and lose one hundred grand, somebody's basically they don't care in the mafia. Is that what you're saying. I mean, if he's part of this, I don't know if he's in it. But once the mafia gets a grip on you, you ain't. They're not letting you know. 00:26:53 Speaker 5: That's true. 00:26:54 Speaker 4: I mean, now that's that's a worry, which is you lose money and then the mafia says, okay, you need to throw this game. 00:27:00 Speaker 5: So like that that that could be a big word. 00:27:02 Speaker 7: I'm just saying that the difference in a bunch of rich dudes in a country club basement in this is probably the scheme is actually doing something bigger than just playing poker. 00:27:10 Speaker 5: Well, I have to see the indictment, but that would be uh, but. 00:27:14 Speaker 7: That if they should go to a guy's house named Blaze, it's a good time. Just completely the bus. Yeah, wow, I lost all the ten dollars there. 00:27:24 Speaker 5: Mario had a face like, I hope Blaze doesn't. 00:27:27 Speaker 7: We had. You should have seen the ten dollars chips we were stacking up. 00:27:30 Speaker 4: Yeah, so we'll have to have to wait and see. I will say this, I'm sure Adam Silver took a big gulp of when it came out. It was because if it was a coach and it was throwing games, well, they can be a huge thing for the league, yah, because they can control who comes in and out of the games like they could really they could really have an impact even. 00:27:51 Speaker 7: More than a player. Oh, you've got the under on Lebron, Well, I'm gonna sit him the second half and just not play him. That's easy. 00:27:58 Speaker 6: Yeah, it's the rose Eer is allegedly tied to point shaving right. 00:28:02 Speaker 5: Yes, And you said like they've been some clips. 00:28:05 Speaker 4: There's been some clips over the years of Rochier where he just takes a shot and he goes into the sixth. 00:28:09 Speaker 7: Row and then he like very dramatically, it's like oh, and throws the lands in the air and stomps back like he's so mad. I didn't mean to do that, throws in the crowd. 00:28:18 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:28:18 Speaker 6: Obviously, making all these announcements today, the FBI have obviously made a big concerted effort to maybe crack down on sports gambling in the NBA. 00:28:25 Speaker 5: Well they need to, I mean like that that is an issue. 00:28:28 Speaker 4: One person writes, Matt, the tickets for the UK Purdue game are expensive because of inflation. Thank Joe Bot. It's definitely his fault. Definitely his fault that these tickets for this exhibition game are very expensive. Might as well just blame we should just blame him for everything for the next decade. 00:28:45 Speaker 6: I was gonna blame Sal Smith for the high devices and Sal Smith. 00:28:51 Speaker 4: If I if I got Sal Smith to come on the show, would you be nice to him? I would be a professional, So you would, Shannon. He would just duck everything he said all. 00:28:59 Speaker 7: Through these years. 00:29:00 Speaker 6: No, yeah, on the show. 00:29:02 Speaker 7: Talk about when he laughs? 00:29:04 Speaker 6: Yeah, why not? 00:29:04 Speaker 3: He'd be passive? Aggressive? 00:29:06 Speaker 4: Oh you think he would. I think I don't think he would say where. He would be a complete whip. 00:29:11 Speaker 3: Who's next, Let's go to corn Dog Travis. 00:29:13 Speaker 5: Corn Dog Travis. 00:29:14 Speaker 7: How are you? 00:29:15 Speaker 5: I said that like that was a normal. 00:29:19 Speaker 8: Good morning, good morning failers. All right, boys, football season ain't over. I just want to encourage everybody. I think that we're gonna do something against Tennessee. 00:29:31 Speaker 5: Okay, what makes you think? 00:29:32 Speaker 7: So? 00:29:32 Speaker 5: Why do you think we're gonna beat Tennessee or at least do something? 00:29:37 Speaker 9: Well? 00:29:37 Speaker 8: I believe that Stoops is a fighter. 00:29:39 Speaker 9: And he's a loyal man, and he's gonna do what. 00:29:42 Speaker 8: He can for Kentucky. 00:29:43 Speaker 9: He always has and he always will. 00:29:46 Speaker 5: Well, I believe that too. 00:29:47 Speaker 4: I'm just not sure if he could do anything that makes us competitive with Tennessee. 00:29:52 Speaker 8: Oh look, guys, in relationships, look I see Stoops. 00:29:56 Speaker 9: This is kind of a marriage, and I see Stoops. You know, hey, I admit my faults. I've messed up a few times, and I think. 00:30:03 Speaker 8: He's going to try to do better. 00:30:04 Speaker 9: And so you know what, forgiveness you all know is the best antidote any kind of negatives. 00:30:10 Speaker 5: True of all marriages in America end up in divorce. 00:30:15 Speaker 9: That's because they kick him to the curve, just like we're trying to do. Boys. 00:30:19 Speaker 6: I love y'all, all right, I. 00:30:21 Speaker 4: Appreciate, appreciate the call. So, uh, do you agree about that? You think we got a shot Saturday against Tennessee. 00:30:27 Speaker 7: I'll say they have a shot on the stoops is a fighter thing, I agree. But sometimes your fighter it's late in the fight and he's just been taking body blows and he can't open his left eye, and you got to recognize that it just end. 00:30:42 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:30:43 Speaker 7: I've been reading this book. 00:30:44 Speaker 4: I just finished it last night, called The Fight by Norman Mayler. It was about the George Foreman Muhammad Ali rumble in the Jungle Fight. 00:30:52 Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a great book. 00:30:54 Speaker 4: I mean, Norman Mayler's a little full of himself, but it's a great book. And in it he talks about how George Foreman style back then, what I'm just gonna keep coming at you and just you know, pummel you. I'm just keep kinding. I'm gonna keep coming, and I'm gonna keep coming. But then Ali was just better in that fight, and so he kept coming, he kept coming, and in the eighth round he just got knocked out. I mean, Stoops is a fighter. He might be like George Foreman, just keep coming and coming, but then the rest of the sec may just be like and then you're out. I mean, that could be. 00:31:26 Speaker 6: What what it is we said, you know before the Texas game, there's one game every year where Stoops kind of shows that toughness in that fight. Well, that was the game they had that game. They kind of let that game get away from him. That's what worries me about this Saturday. You know, the letdown after losing that game last weekend. 00:31:41 Speaker 4: I think where I think last Saturday was why I have a lot of respect for Mark Stoops. 00:31:47 Speaker 5: There was everything that could have been a disaster. 00:31:50 Speaker 4: You could have gotten blown out, you could have had the team quit, and they came out and played great. Yep, they also lost in the end, right it also had I think that game in some ways was symbolic of the whole thing. We put up a fight, we played well, but in the end, our own mistakes cost ourselves the game and we ended up frustrated. 00:32:09 Speaker 5: I mean, I think that's just how it is. 00:32:11 Speaker 7: Yeah, it wasn't like the end of last year. We could look down there and see it was over team had checked out. They fought hard for Stoops and the fans and everyone for every single snap in that game. It just they couldn't get that final yard to get them to win this show. 00:32:24 Speaker 4: This segment's brought to you by Serve Pro, the number one choice and clean up in restoration. Whether it's mold, fire storm, or water damage. We got a pro for that. 00:32:32 Speaker 7: They've helped you. 00:32:34 Speaker 6: Like I said, my basement flowed a couple weeks ago. They called me. They heard us talk about it on the radio show and called me to make sure everything was okay. 00:32:39 Speaker 4: They sponsored the Umpire Challenge in the ballpark, the ESPN Radio College Football Tour, There's a golf tournament. 00:32:45 Speaker 6: There's more. 00:32:46 Speaker 7: It's all at serve Pro. Check out Serve Pro. 00:32:49 Speaker 4: And they also, by the way, here's a new fact the twenty twenty four US National Firefighting Challenge. Did you know the champion and female record hold is Sarah McGill from the. 00:33:01 Speaker 7: Lexington Fire Department. 00:33:02 Speaker 6: Didn't know that? 00:33:03 Speaker 5: Now you do celebrate thanks. 00:33:05 Speaker 7: To Serve Pro. 00:33:06 Speaker 4: Congrats to Sarah mccara McGill. Second biggest shout out next to Eric. One day on this show, We'll take a break and be right back. It's k I did want to ask you a question, right Ryan, You you and Shannon were talking about outside the iHeart Building, there are people that do kung fu. 00:33:22 Speaker 6: If you're on our iHeart Building, which is on the seventh floor of the City Center City Center, if you're looking like over Main Street, across the street, like a week ago, well in a month ago, they spelled out all Yorn with like towels, It said all Yorn. Who they're like two two people. So they took down the all Yarn and then they put up a inflatable pool. And these these two people are like they out there doing like judo. 00:33:47 Speaker 2: Or kung fu and wrestling hole wrestling. At one point they were massaging each other. One was laying down. 00:33:53 Speaker 6: Yeah, so they do judo, yes, and it's you know, it's it's a little chilly, but that they're in the then the pool they got this inflatable pool. Why you can't stop. 00:34:04 Speaker 5: I mean, you could true found a way. 00:34:08 Speaker 7: To say they are. It's probably a two or three story building and they're surrounded by taller buildings. So I mean, if you look out the window and look down. 00:34:14 Speaker 5: You're just doing judo and then spelling things with town. 00:34:18 Speaker 6: Yeah, that that started it. But now they got this pool out. 00:34:23 Speaker 3: I've seen the videos. I didn't see it live, but I've seen videos. 00:34:26 Speaker 7: That's taking videos. Oh they are doing judah. 00:34:30 Speaker 6: People in our iHeart building. They're fascinated. But they're doing judo on the roof. Yeah, and then like they give them massages and. 00:34:37 Speaker 7: I don't know what that is, but we'll skip that rooftop society. Well that's interesting. Well, good for them. 00:34:43 Speaker 6: It's definitely become a big attraction down I think we. 00:34:45 Speaker 7: Should send Ryan and Mario to go participate. 00:34:48 Speaker 5: I'm fine with it. 00:34:49 Speaker 7: All right. 00:34:49 Speaker 4: So UK has just announced we have some breaking news. Okay, they've announced a new program called Blue and White Memories. All right, this is for football, basketball, and men's basketball Blue and White Memories. You will now be able to purchase. Prices are not listed, so but you could guess probably I'm going to read you some of the things available to purchase. You all give me a yes or no whether you would want to purchase these first be a part of the pregame catwalk for basketball, that's like I guess backstage if now you may not know this, but for like rich donors, they walk by people in a glass. 00:35:35 Speaker 5: You may have seen that, like with the Cowboys or something. They do that. 00:35:38 Speaker 4: Now with Kentucky basketball, you could be part of the intros and see the team as they walk into the arena. 00:35:47 Speaker 5: Yes or no. No? 00:35:50 Speaker 7: True, I mean I've had a little kid, but no, not me. Say let me get this right. 00:35:54 Speaker 2: I get to see the team walk into the arena that I'm about to see when I'm in the arena. 00:35:58 Speaker 5: Exactly through through glass. No, no, that's a no. 00:36:02 Speaker 4: For shait a video board message, you can put your message in a spotlight celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or graduation with a custom message limited to fifty characters that they will show on the screen during the game. 00:36:14 Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I'm all in on that. Yeah. Also, how closely do they check my message? You're gonna check it pretty close. I don't think you can be too t Beecheria. I would buy a message on the referend right, I'm in. 00:36:25 Speaker 3: No, I would just send a tweet instead. More people would see it. 00:36:29 Speaker 5: That is true. 00:36:30 Speaker 4: If you sent a tweet, more people would see it because you're more posed deliver the game ball to the officials before the game. 00:36:36 Speaker 7: One person will hand the game ball to the officials the game an honor. 00:36:43 Speaker 5: Here you go, Doug Shalls. Are you in or out? No, that's it out. 00:36:49 Speaker 7: I'm out only if it were free, Only if it were free. I don't think it's all right. 00:36:53 Speaker 4: How about this starting lineup high fives? You will stand at the end with the reserve and you will get high fives. 00:37:02 Speaker 5: From the players. 00:37:02 Speaker 4: Does that mean I'm gonna have to look at regular people be part of our lineup thing. 00:37:07 Speaker 7: Yes, they're gonna be chess bumping at the end. Oh. 00:37:10 Speaker 4: I always liked when we did the thing where we're like and they do the little stuff. 00:37:14 Speaker 7: At the end. 00:37:15 Speaker 5: Now we're gonna have just regular people getting their COVID on. 00:37:18 Speaker 2: Somebody is going to get injured or something from this, and this will shut the whole thing down. 00:37:23 Speaker 5: Yeah, somebody's gonna get hurt trying to be cool. 00:37:25 Speaker 7: I'm in though I'm in starting lineup. Why imagine me and Brandon Garrison just chest bumping each other before the day. 00:37:33 Speaker 5: All right, enough, you're in, right. 00:37:34 Speaker 6: See, this is what I think I'm in too. I want to be the guy at the end of the line. And it's got my secret you're in shakes and my secret chess pumps and this. 00:37:41 Speaker 5: Is gonna be painful. 00:37:42 Speaker 4: I'm for it, Shannon, not for me, but for the awkwardness that's going to ensue when people try to be part of the team. 00:37:49 Speaker 5: Like you know, the team's gonna. 00:37:50 Speaker 4: Dance and all that, and these people are gonna want to be part of it and it's gonna be really funny. Just just Kentuckians. Just be warned if you look stupid. I am tweeting it out and it's gonna look funny. 00:38:01 Speaker 5: But go ahead, chick. 00:38:02 Speaker 3: Coil opportunity for the fans. 00:38:04 Speaker 2: I would have to see the price tag on this, Like how much is it gonna cost to give somebody a high? 00:38:07 Speaker 7: Five proposals? 00:38:09 Speaker 4: You can now pay to propose to your significant other at the game. They used to ban this for the years you were not allowed to do it. Now you can do it, but you have to pay. Are you in or out? 00:38:20 Speaker 7: No? 00:38:21 Speaker 5: How they gonna. 00:38:22 Speaker 7: Stop you from taking it? 00:38:23 Speaker 3: Eave of the ring and Maria exactly, Well. 00:38:25 Speaker 4: No, I mean they're gonna put it on the main screen, but you're gonna have to pay for it. 00:38:28 Speaker 7: It'll it'll get on the main screen anyway. Well in ks R and TV broadcast no I am not paying a dollar to propose. That's expensive enough as it is. 00:38:38 Speaker 6: I'm not paying for that. Like Drew said, they're gonna they're gonna catch you. The cameras will catch you anyway if you do it, even up in the nosebleeds. 00:38:44 Speaker 5: How about this one post game free throws? 00:38:48 Speaker 4: You and a gas get to come on the floor after the game and shoot free throw. 00:38:52 Speaker 3: What if I want to shoot a three, they gotta kick out. 00:38:55 Speaker 5: You cannot shoot a three, no bake shots. 00:38:58 Speaker 7: You have to shoot free throw. So should I do our rapid reaction while shooting the free throw? I just want to be on the court again, on this court. That's funny. Throw anything to give me back in the building. 00:39:08 Speaker 3: All right, No, sham, no, no. 00:39:12 Speaker 4: I could see doing this if I was a fan. If it was cheap, I guess is it's not gonna be cheap if it was cheap. And then finally, VP postgame radio show, you get to sit next to Tom Leech and Mark Pope on the court during the radio show. 00:39:28 Speaker 5: Also really awkward. 00:39:30 Speaker 4: I hope you're sitting right in between them. Just Tom Leech smart poping you right in the middle of it. 00:39:40 Speaker 7: I think they should share a mic and you have to hold it in the middle. They just lean into your microphone. 00:39:44 Speaker 4: Can you imagine what that'll look like? Here you go, Bob Bolk right in the middle of the two of them. 00:39:51 Speaker 6: I would not do it, but I want this one to happen. I want that awkward moment to happen. 00:39:55 Speaker 7: You like it. I mean you can just sit there anyway, like behind the rope two feet away as it is. Now. 00:40:01 Speaker 5: No, now you get to be on the court. That's too close. 00:40:04 Speaker 7: It's too I don't need to be that close. 00:40:05 Speaker 2: I feel like I win this experience every morning at nine o'clock or eight o'clock when I get the producer, when you get you get to. 00:40:12 Speaker 7: Be on the top of lead show. You don't need to pay for this exactly all right. I will say this is but when you said I'm gonna introduce the bb in memories, I pictured like the infomercials where you're buying coins for like ninety nine your precious bbing memory. So this is at least better than what I thought you were gonna, say, a coin with Mark Fox's picture on it. 00:40:32 Speaker 6: Yeah, I do like the idea. They're trying to do something for the fans. I think they need to do this at Kroger Field or for all. 00:40:38 Speaker 4: This in theory. Here's what I don't like. And I'm you're gonna hear me say this probably for the next decade. I get it.
