Speaker 3: Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

00:01:05
Speaker 2: All right, welcome back our number two connecting sports Radio, Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Billy. This is Matt's last day off. He'll be back Monday. We'll have our normal show for a week until baby Franklin is due. By the way, the avs and glass text machine, somebody said, VJ. Franklin has a nice dream. VJ does have a good new VJ Franklin Breaking news though, Shannon, we got a breaking news store. We gotta get to a immediately, not off the press, Drew Franklin, what's our breaking news which I don't know. What are we going with the Fanatics thing?

00:01:34
Speaker 4: Kentucky signed a twelve year extension we love along contract with Fanatics. It will help with NIL with athletes. They're calling it a first of its kind, an IL program with Fanatics. So congratulations to UK student student athletes. They get to put their names on things.

00:01:51
Speaker 2: Okay, almost sound like the old man. Okay, is Fanatics a popular brand right now or something?

00:01:56
Speaker 4: It's a big brand, Uh, probably the biggest out there. They gobbled up a lot of company, a lot of merch. Yeah, I'd say I'd say it's good. I like the if it's as they're saying, it is. I mean, it's good idea to help the players get their own deals, and I'm sure they'll be putting their names T shirts all that stuff, so I'd say it's a positive. I don't know why we keep agreeing to things that are over a decade long, but overall, if.

00:02:17
Speaker 5: It's such another long term contract with a company they had already been in a real relationship with. Right, So, Kentucky and Fanatics has been working closely together.

00:02:25
Speaker 4: But I think Champions Blue has like a Fanatics VP on it or a former on it too, So the Goatics connection has been there a while. But overall, I would say as long as.

00:02:33
Speaker 2: But doesn't that music with the Nike clothing brand.

00:02:36
Speaker 4: Well, Fanatics has not. It's like the big broad I'd say, if it means that someone like Colin Chandler can put his face on T shirts and make money off that, then then good because that's what we need.

00:02:46
Speaker 2: They can get it done all right, eight five, nine, two to eighty seven. I don't know if you guys saw this, but there's there's big news in Lexington, the city of Lexington. Oh what's you know? Someday I'm going to be mayor of this town. And my whole platform is going to be improving traffic in like stick Kentucky because traffic stinks. Did you see the stor where they're doing over Hamburg. This affects both of you guys.

00:03:08
Speaker 4: There.

00:03:09
Speaker 2: They're gonna build a road from Sir Barton Way. Think about about the middle of Sir Barton Way. Okay, it's gonna cut across the I seventy five. You know you don't have to go do you wan't have to go out to man of War. You're gonna cut across the ICE seventy five, go under I seventy five as a tunnel and then ended up at Polo Club, the new Polo club out there. It's supposed to help alleviate some traffic because the new hospital Baptist Hospitals blowing up out there. UK is about to build their own hospital out there. The traffic is about to be insane. So there's a proposal. Well, I think this is gonna happen. There's gonna be a road from Sir Barton Way to Polo Club that goes under I seventy five. What do you think?

00:03:50
Speaker 5: It sounds like this is what we're doing all throughout Kentucky. Didn't Nick talk about the what they're thinking about doing in Louisville with the tunnel from the airport.

00:03:58
Speaker 6: Yeah, because it was on April first.

00:04:01
Speaker 5: Well, I think that's in the infancy.

00:04:03
Speaker 6: I don't think they we're going to have a subway in Louisville.

00:04:07
Speaker 5: I think that was what city leaders were talking about. I don't know if this was official, but this was something they have been talking about. So you're telling me there may be a tunnel in Lexington.

00:04:15
Speaker 2: Now, there will be if this goes passes true. It's gotta be a good big news for you living out.

00:04:19
Speaker 4: There, big news for me. I didn't know about it. We need something because that area is just blowing up by those hospitages and they're clearing more land for more you know, shopping and more restaurants to get out there. And it's already crowded enough. So I'm having a hard time visualizing your tunnel. But whatever it takes to make things better out there.

00:04:36
Speaker 2: Well, you know, Polo Club now is extended all the way from Mana War to Winchester Road, and that's this growth project. There's a new middle school out there, yep. The Baptist Hospital is ginormous.

00:04:46
Speaker 4: I passed it on my way to Costco and.

00:04:48
Speaker 2: UK's we want to build their own hospital. So this is kind of a little foresight, little planning, but there's more to the plan.

00:04:53
Speaker 5: Oh, tell us Mayor.

00:04:54
Speaker 2: This is where I am really excited for me. You guys are excited about the tunnel going under I seventy five. They're going to expand Georgetown Road from Spur Road to Ironworks Road. So think about that Georgetown Road. You're going from Lexington up Georgetown Road to Georgetown. It goes like two lane where it goes by Red State Barbecue. It's kind of windy. They're gonna expand it. And for somebody who makes that drive every day, because yoga girl lives in Georgetown, I about jumped up and down. I saw this news, big news in my world.

00:05:24
Speaker 4: You worried about the construction to get a built, it's gonna be a probably a little.

00:05:28
Speaker 2: What I hadn't thought about that. Yeah, for about a year. I'm gona have to take the detour around it. You're excited, take the Interstate around it maybe, but yeah, Georgetown.

00:05:37
Speaker 5: Road, Yeah, that tunnel is gonna be more than a year. If we're talking about construction purposes, for that, right, But there's more.

00:05:44
Speaker 2: Oh, he's still going in this plan again helps me. They're gonna expand the road of Red Mile from Versales Road to the Leeestown Road. You know, it's kind of a two lane Windy comes down there to old Frankfurt Pike. I take that road work every day. Here, I come ahead, take that road to cast Bar every single day.

00:06:04
Speaker 5: I thought you were going to the Red Mile every week, and that's why you wanted the extra come to cast Bar.

00:06:08
Speaker 4: So I love your excitement in these roads.

00:06:11
Speaker 2: I was tickled to death the two roads I travel the most every single day. That is a headache about to get better.

00:06:18
Speaker 4: How many times is he going to be late for the show because the very construction you got earlier.

00:06:23
Speaker 2: Because right now Leastown Road is a madhouse.

00:06:25
Speaker 4: It is. I was just on it yesterday.

00:06:27
Speaker 2: It's got down to one lane for a short term again and going underneath it right now. So it's bad. So so there you go. So you folks in, Uh, Well, there's actually another part of the plan doesn't affect me, but a new circle road between Boardwalk and Brian Station, and that kind of gets congested there between Boardwalk and Brien States are going to kind of work on expanding that area there too. So I feel like we're with Officer don traffic report here.

00:06:50
Speaker 5: That's what I have to look forward to when I get older, is just like changes in traffic pattern.

00:06:54
Speaker 2: I am so excited about what we can tell.

00:06:57
Speaker 4: Billy wasn't wrong about the Louisville subway though, that's a that's the real thing that considering connecting downtown. I don't know whover well, but Airport.

00:07:03
Speaker 5: And Lashville too. Elon has talked about an underground tunnel where only Tesla's.

00:07:09
Speaker 4: Can go on.

00:07:09
Speaker 5: I mean that was a couple of years ago. We talked about this.

00:07:12
Speaker 2: Stay tuned because if Mayor Gordon doesn't get it done, I'm gonna get it done when I'm mayor. Though those almost still those ideas.

00:07:17
Speaker 4: Now's your time to run, that's sure. Just just say you're going to fix the ice in Lexington and you're you're in there.

00:07:22
Speaker 2: Eight five nine, two eight seven. We got a call, Shannon, let's go to Casey, Casey, go ahead, Casey Fellas, good morning.

00:07:31
Speaker 7: I had a couple of quick things. Yesterday was fourteen years since we won our last title, and that just blows my mind, like My son is ten and he's a huge UK fan and he hasn't even got to experience the greatness of it all. And I'm just so ready for our program to get back on track. But then the second thing I wanted to see. Did you guys see the Madden or Losky video from yesterday?

00:07:55
Speaker 2: Let's talk about that. Thank you, Katie, appreciate it. Do you If you're listening to us right now, now, do yourself a favor, and at some point today look up dan Orlowsky's son Madden, who is on was it first take? Was the name of that show? One of those NFL NFL Live. It'll be the best thing you see all week. I mean, this is Easter weekend, today's Good Friday, It's Holy weekend, and this is one of the best things I've ever seen. Don Orlowski's son Madden on this show yesterday unscripted. It was World Autism Day. His son has autism, and Madden became a darling, uh It's superstar in a matter of minutes. So I advise, if you're listening right now, do yourself a favor and watch that little clip at some point today.

00:08:40
Speaker 4: Hey, he's fourteen, he got on there as an Eagles fan, and he kind of just shared his love for the Eagles. I think he's been on there before in a similar moment where Dan's crying and everyone watching is crying. But yesterday for a World Outsism Day, they did it again, and I think even says like, Dad, are you crying? Yeah, He's like, yeah, I just love you. So yes, it's a it'll pull on your heart strings for sure.

00:09:00
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:09:00
Speaker 5: I remember he did it last year, I think too for auti Autism to Day. So I haven't seen this one, but this is uh, this is good. Dan needed some good pr after the couple of weeks, as he said.

00:09:09
Speaker 2: That's true.

00:09:10
Speaker 4: Madden drew like the Eagles logo and stuff, and they make it the big set background and yeah, they it was really cool. Everybody needs to watch that.

00:09:16
Speaker 2: Madden sang the Eagles fight song, So Dan Orlofsky's crying, the host is just crying.

00:09:22
Speaker 4: They're all everybody homes crying.

00:09:24
Speaker 2: I'm crying when I watched it last night. It's just a very heartfelt moment between father and son with Madden uh kind of drawing uh, some attention to World Autism Day watching.

00:09:36
Speaker 4: Very cool moment.

00:09:36
Speaker 2: All right, thanks for bringing that up. Casey, all right, who we got next? Shannon? Don don go ahead?

00:09:40
Speaker 8: Don Hey ry here, buddy, Hey, since uh, you know, Matt always loved contest, why don't we have a contest about him since he's not there.

00:09:52
Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Yeah, I appreciate that. Let's think about what kind of contest could we have?

00:10:00
Speaker 8: I always use up on every year.

00:10:01
Speaker 2: Well, they're three and three the.

00:10:04
Speaker 8: First day that he gives up on the RIZ and whoever wins at and you know, maybe have a contest or sponsor whatever you want to do with it.

00:10:12
Speaker 2: Oh, I appreciate it. Yeah. They lost their last two gains of the pirates, so they've slipped the three and three. They were off last night, they back tonight. I don't even know who they played tonight.

00:10:20
Speaker 5: I don't know, but you know, didn't they We tried to do a KSR night at the Reds game last year, and I don't know if it didn't work out or if.

00:10:28
Speaker 4: It didn't work out. I did the did you go? No, I did the match game.

00:10:31
Speaker 2: The match game, the legendary I got booed by an entire state.

00:10:36
Speaker 4: Years ago. Okay, but we did the KSR night.

00:10:38
Speaker 5: I remember the match game. I wanted to go to give you redemption, Drew. We got to get you back on that screen.

00:10:43
Speaker 4: No, I that went perfectly. I will be chasing that high forever getting booed by an entire stadium. I need you all to understand how good that felt. That was. That there's not a drug out there that could recreate that feeling.

00:10:55
Speaker 5: Oh see, I would be the opposite.

00:10:56
Speaker 2: I would they still talk about that, dukes k I never lived that messed up.

00:11:01
Speaker 4: The match game didn't mess it up. It went exactly how it needed like.

00:11:05
Speaker 2: It's like you were just looking like you froze, like you were waiting to make a move.

00:11:08
Speaker 4: Well, I didn't understand that the rules of the game clearly, and once I just started getting the booze. Man, I still want it. I can feel it right now a little bit. It's the same as when we did the roast of Matt getting a laugh at a joke. He worked on it like a comedy thing because I've never done stand up. That's an adrenaline rush too, Like my two biggest highs are the Matt roast, getting a laugh and then getting booed by everyone in Great American Ballpark.

00:11:31
Speaker 5: Well not everybody got a laugh at the Matt roast.

00:11:33
Speaker 2: I was. I was there.

00:11:34
Speaker 5: I remember that, so it did feel like you had to work hard for it. It was Mary Joe Perino. I think that Mary Joe killed it. But Drew you were really good.

00:11:40
Speaker 2: Also. Shannon had a good joke or a good line. I can't remember what it was. Shannon, you had a good I don't even know. I feel like that's been twenty years ago. It was was that that we did that.

00:11:49
Speaker 5: It was like one of my first years. I was there, so six seventeen seventeen, one of the two.

00:11:55
Speaker 2: I like that. I've got video. All right, dell, well take a break. We'll go back to the phone lines. A kas bar is the open. We are open for lunch today. So if you're getting ready to go out to Kenlan you want to kind of drag your feet for the rain stops a little bit, stop in here, have a little lunch and check out. KSR will be here till noon eight five nine, two two eight seven. This is Kentucky's Ports Radio. Oh Tiger Woods, we'll steal panther. Wow. He uh. The police footage came out with the dash cam footage whatever we call it. Not good. It's kind of sad. It's kind of sad to see a superstar.

00:12:33
Speaker 6: Why did it?

00:12:34
Speaker 3: Okay, So I tweeted out the picture earlier, then I deleted it because I thought it was ai, And now you're telling me it is real. The picture of Tiger covered in a blanket looking like et did they give you a blanket when you get arrested?

00:12:43
Speaker 6: Like, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with that picture?

00:12:46
Speaker 2: Well man, cold, Yeah, let's say maybe it was thirty degrees outside in.

00:12:50
Speaker 4: Jupiter, Florida.

00:12:51
Speaker 6: He's wearing shorts sleeves. I don't know. Yeah, what's going on there?

00:12:56
Speaker 5: Gets a little bit of hiccups. He's definitely have the hiccups. Obviously, we wish nothing but the best for Tiger. We wanted them to get this problem solved and not endanger people on the roadways because that's not funny. But there are memes being made from the photos of Tiger in the back of that police police car.

00:13:12
Speaker 2: And they allegedly found two pills in his pocket that are allegedly oxy codonne.

00:13:17
Speaker 4: Getting those allegedlies in there, yeah, I gotta make sure. At one point he asked for his golf clubs, his sticks, and his putter. He says, I won fourteen majors with it. I could see why he wouldn't want them running off and putting that in the police impount. That's true. That putter is probably worth more than their police department.

00:13:33
Speaker 5: Was talking to the President too, Like at the scene.

00:13:36
Speaker 4: This guy called Donald check in. I don't know what he was gonna do there.

00:13:39
Speaker 5: I was talking to the President.

00:13:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, they're cool anyway, I was talking about Supervisor. We're taking you in.

00:13:49
Speaker 2: You know, spring is a season for fresh starts tiger and sometimes that includes your mortgage. Stocking mortgage helps homeowners and Tiger woods and buyers explore smart options, smart options and more. Stocking April Howard April showers also bring May flowers. Sometimes also brings new home opportunities. Getting preapproved now. It can help buyers move quickly when the right home appears. Start at Stockton dot com, Stockton Mortgage MLS eight two five nine, Equality Lender Nimles, Consumer Access dot org A five nine, two two eight seven. That's our phone numbers. So who we got, Channon, Joseph, Joseph, Go ahead, Joseph, Hey.

00:14:25
Speaker 9: You guys, just one that make could comments about Pope and the basketball season in general, basketball, you know, as a whole, is a game where the rules are created, So these team is not going to have a huge advantage over the other one. I mean, I know Jimmy and Joe's matter, but he only takes one person to put the basket to the ball through the basket to get points. And I think our team this year was pretty good overall constructed. I think if we had Quaintance and Low we would have done a lot better because they don't know how many games we had this year where we said Malachai just wasn't strong enough or needed more strength, and that's where quaints could really made a bit difference than that. So I'm still with Pope. You know, I don't expect to win every single game, so when we do win, I get to enjoy those games more. And being a fan, you know, I want to stick with our team too, thick and thin, and so hopefully next year will be better. But you know, we we got Pope, that's who our coaches. I want to support him, all right.

00:15:19
Speaker 2: Appreciate that there are those people out there that are still very much supporting coach Pope and what he's doing. But like Drew said, this is a make or break here for him.

00:15:27
Speaker 4: This is year three.

00:15:29
Speaker 2: You gotta do something. You can't take a step backwards for sure.

00:15:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, he needs to get back to whatever his identity is, which we think is shooting a lot of threes and build his team around that. I hope people are very critical of Matt Malaka. He was not supposed to be the starter. The fact that you paid Brandon Garrison whatever you paid him after you had a year with it, and then he didn't take a step forward, that was a much bigger miss than Malacha is. Not having strong enough hands in the SEC and depth was.

00:15:54
Speaker 5: A huge problem, right, I mean even though Aberdeen was playing the point guard spot, well, jyaln Low was supposed to be that guy, and Jane Quaintin's didn't have some of the best games in the few games that he did play. Right, maybe he's a different person if he's not injured.

00:16:07
Speaker 4: And I love Diabate, but I mean, like you're in Pope's offense, you need spacing in your four, needs to be able to shoot threes. So it was like, as good as de Abate is, it's just didn't align with what Pope needs to do to succeed.

00:16:19
Speaker 5: We've talked about roster construction and there it is, right.

00:16:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he really thought the combo of Diabate and Yellovich was gonna do what he needed to do in the four. You need somebody to play defense and going there and bang around. He put Diobati out there. You need somebody go out and hit threes, phut Yellovich out there. I think he thought that combo of the guys would be the four.

00:16:36
Speaker 5: But Yelovich wasn't. He was a late addition, wasn't he, Like yeah, late into the summer before he got in. So like, I think there was a lot of expectations on Brandon Garrison. I think maybe even Cam Williams at the four. There was gonna be high expectations there, but it just did not come together the way he needed to.

00:16:51
Speaker 2: From Navision Glass text Machine, it is unfair for Drew to talk about a Fanatics partnership the way he just did. Fanatics is the only retail with the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NCAA. So Kentucky signed a ten year extension is just a normal business practice.

00:17:09
Speaker 4: Touche. I mean, I think it's great if it helps the players.

00:17:13
Speaker 2: For sure, that's what it's all about, right, Yeah.

00:17:16
Speaker 4: I think it was a thirteen year extension. I don't know. I don't know contracts. That seems like a long time to me, does it not. I mean the Jamid is like twenty years. That seems like a lot a big commitment to me.

00:17:24
Speaker 5: But your little girl will be a teenager by the time we can get out of the Fanatics deal.

00:17:28
Speaker 4: That's true. It's true.

00:17:30
Speaker 2: Like I said, I didn't even know what Fanatics was. I'm at all. I mean I kind of heard of it. I really didn't know it was a big deal, wearing.

00:17:37
Speaker 6: Fanatics right now.

00:17:38
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like the biggest store in sports merchant noise. They gobble everything up.

00:17:41
Speaker 2: And they Nike is under their umbrella.

00:17:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, several brands.

00:17:45
Speaker 2: Okay, schools leagues, Well there you go.

00:17:49
Speaker 4: All right, bruh, think think of an Amazon but for sports.

00:17:52
Speaker 2: Okay, I got a little bit of everything that's Fanatics. Yes, Why have I not heard of it until?

00:17:56
Speaker 4: Because you're ryn you're out.

00:17:57
Speaker 6: Of touch with reality.

00:18:01
Speaker 2: Their story out of Evansville, Indiana, I gotta talk about. Of course, that's my old hometown. Drew and I used to go to Eastland Mall and drive up and down Green River Road.

00:18:10
Speaker 4: Give me some gd Ritzy's gd Ritzy's. Daryl ld love me some Darryl's chee cheese.

00:18:15
Speaker 2: Shannon was all on River Road language.

00:18:17
Speaker 4: Now we're getting crazy. We'd go over to Maddingley's a little a little farther away. You go check on what Dawn was serving over there.

00:18:23
Speaker 2: Your Masisonville was about forty five minutes away, about an hour. Ot Well was about forty five minutes to an hour away. So it kind of Evansville was the spot to go.

00:18:31
Speaker 4: To birthdays date nights. We had to go downtown.

00:18:35
Speaker 2: Big story out of Evansville.

00:18:36
Speaker 4: Let's hear it.

00:18:37
Speaker 2: Forty one year old Randall Baker got a little full of himself and went to a liquor store. Didn't buy any liquor, but there was a bud light truck out in the parking lot. Keys rent it. Oh No, Randall Baker, the drink maker, jumped in and took off, stole a bud light beer truck and thought he could get away with it. Kind of hide to hard, hard to hide, hard to hide, tied to hard. Kind of hide to hard a butt light truck.

00:19:12
Speaker 4: You've been into the bud light truck.

00:19:14
Speaker 2: I was with Randall Baker, the steely maker. But here's the whole thing. He went before the judge. The judge gave him a light sentence. Eight eight seven. Right back radio.

00:19:29
Speaker 4: You're not gonna talk about how he was on the run.

00:19:32
Speaker 2: He was on the run.

00:19:33
Speaker 4: It was a police was That's a lot more. That's a lot more interesting than that joke.

00:19:37
Speaker 2: But I wanted to get to my joke, my punchline.

00:19:39
Speaker 5: It was so tough.

00:19:40
Speaker 4: What about how he refused to pull over and they're chasing him in a bud light That seems a lot more interesting to me.

00:19:44
Speaker 2: Well, I thought that was kind of implied when he drove off in a bud light truck and then around.

00:19:47
Speaker 3: How about a ten million dollars bond it says was set for him too.

00:19:50
Speaker 2: There you go, Ronald Baker, the mistake maker.

00:19:53
Speaker 4: He was charged with attempted murder, auto theft, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement, and reckless operation of a tractor trailer and driving on and talks skated.

00:20:03
Speaker 2: But he got a litle bit have a day, But he got a light sentence. What's with the cargo theft?

00:20:08
Speaker 5: We saw the kit Cats being stolen. That's true. Patrol Europe this past week.

00:20:12
Speaker 2: Like what a million kit Cat bars or something like.

00:20:14
Speaker 5: That, one hundred and thirteen thousand, My goodness over that. And now, well, I mean the keys are in the truck, Ryan.

00:20:20
Speaker 4: The driver had to jump out of the moving truck, so he like GTAIGHTHM. He hit the triangle button and just hopped in while the driver Ronnie Baker, how about that light sentence?

00:20:30
Speaker 2: Got a light sentence. I thought you guys would like that.

00:20:34
Speaker 4: Well, we'll work on it. We'll work on it during the break.

00:20:36
Speaker 2: Eight five, nine, two weeks seven. Who's next, Shannon, Let's go to Poket, Jim, Poket, Jim.

00:20:41
Speaker 10: Go ahead, sir, Hey, yeah, I want to see if I can change your guys thinking on Monday when you were kind of celebrating Duke's loss, I was kind of pulling for poor Duke, believe it or not. Best I hate to say that because Connecticut has won six national championships since our I swim there in the late nineties. Duke has won three, and I don't think Duke had a shot at Arizona Michigan. The Connecticut does. They would give them seven and three of the last four, besides the ladies winning twelve and last year. To me, now who's the gold standard? I would definitely pull against Connecticut. I was going for Duke in that game.

00:21:19
Speaker 2: I appreciate it, thank you very much. Yeah, the final four stars tomorrow. Illinois actually a slight favorite over Connecticut. I think last night looked which kind of surprised me. And Michigan a slight favorite over Arizona. That kind of surprised me. I would have probably thought Arizona and you call would be the two favorites.

00:21:34
Speaker 4: Both one and a half point spreads too. I'm with you. I probably would have flipped them. I was surprised. I thought you conned with their experience and Hurley, even though Illinois got all the size, I thought it would been the other way around on both sides of the bracket.

00:21:45
Speaker 5: Illinois the most efficient offense in the country right now and have really stepped up their defense. Yeah, for the three seed to make it to the final four.

00:21:52
Speaker 2: So they've not made it to the Final four since five, but I think they got to the championship game and loss. Arizona's not been since ninety seven, right when they beat US in the championship game in ninety seven, so both those teams trying to get back to the finals.

00:22:04
Speaker 4: I get the callers point, but I'm never not going to celebrate Duke losing. I'm sorry, I'm not. You can't convince me. I was all in on Yukon that game. I get the title count, but I hate Duke. The fact that I've been punched by a Yukon fans sure face, and I still wanted Duke to lose that game.

00:22:18
Speaker 2: Yukon men and women both in the final four. Yukon women, like he said, going for the thirteenth championship, but the men and they can win three of the last four. That's that's a hell of a run right now.

00:22:27
Speaker 4: Heck yeah, that's why we need Illinois to get the job done tomorrow.

00:22:30
Speaker 2: Did you see like the TV ratings are like out the roof too? Of course most watched NCAA tournament since ninety three, which is because well the Duke run against Saint John's and the Duke game against Yukon, those vig years were out the roof on their ratings.

00:22:46
Speaker 4: So even the Kentucky game and it was the first round against Santa Clara, but Ken Palm does like an excitement score, and I don't even know how they measure that, but it was considered one of the most exciting tournament games in many years.

00:22:56
Speaker 2: So we'll take our break. Come back. We'll go back to the phone lines eight five, nine two two two weeks an opening day of Keenland. Is the sun out yet, Mario? Not yet? Did get another text from the Avision Glass text machine. What was each of you guys earliest memories of UK basketball. That's a good little summer topic, your earliest memories.

00:24:44
Speaker 4: I was just too young to actually have memories of Latner, but I can remember things with a ninety three run. I can kind of remember like everyone around me being mad about Latner, but having like a vivid memory of me watching that shot. I think I was just a little too young to hang on to that one, but started at about ninety three. I can really remember games.

00:25:05
Speaker 5: Uh, it's right up there on the TV screen. It was John cala Perry's press conference.

00:25:10
Speaker 2: Really.

00:25:11
Speaker 5: Yeah. I didn't move to Kentucky until eight and so that was when I When I came, they were like, you got to pick Kentucky or Louisville, Kentucky or Louisville. Well I went to Western, so I didn't really pick one, but I did get into the craze of Kentucky around that time.

00:25:24
Speaker 2: Shanaeonan about you.

00:25:25
Speaker 6: I'm Withdrew.

00:25:26
Speaker 3: You know, I was I guess ten at that time, but I didn't really pay much attention to sports, so I you know, for first year for me.

00:25:34
Speaker 6: It was ninety three.

00:25:35
Speaker 3: Was that the year that they played the SEC Tournament at ropp Arena and they beat Tennessee by like sixty and TODs of Voda hadscore. Yeah, yeah, I think that was the ninth Was that ninety three? I think it was ninety three, ninety four or something like that. That was That was probably my first memory that season there. I think that's also the season where they tried to do the switcheroo at the free throw line.

00:25:56
Speaker 2: Oh yes, Vanderbilt. Yeah, I remember, they didn't do it, didn't try to do it.

00:26:00
Speaker 3: They did, Yeah, they did it, but then they got suspended afterwards, all.

00:26:03
Speaker 2: Right, right right? They did it during Vanderbilt. Then I got Travis got suspended for the Tennessee game.

00:26:09
Speaker 4: The next game, I can remember where I was at my grandparents' house for Kentucky Michigan. And then that was the Weber time out.

00:26:16
Speaker 6: Oh oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I definitely remember.

00:26:18
Speaker 4: So ninety three is probably when I really could hang on to some memories. Maybe God was like, you know what, you don't need to know about this shot in Philadelphia ninety two. We'll wait a year and then you can start storing these memories.

00:26:27
Speaker 6: That's because God was up to something.

00:26:30
Speaker 2: I think my earliest memory is the seventy eight National Championship Game. I remember, I think like the first time my dad was gonna let me stay up and watch it. What year seventy eight?

00:26:39
Speaker 5: Oh, my old.

00:26:42
Speaker 2: I was. I was twelve. I was no, I was almost twelve. I was eleven, almost twelve. But back then, you know, it was before cable television. You know, you only had the three network channels and they didn't show games, so it was a big deal. I was wanted to watch the National Championship game. I can remember watching all of Duke and you can't remember like Duke had Jim Spinarkle and I Jaminski Because I remember I was so into it. And I was a big Kyle Macy fan. I was gonna beat Kyle Macy. I you there or not. We've heard he was Indiana mister basketball. I was going to be Indiana mister basketball. He played for his dad. I was gonna play for my dad.

00:27:13
Speaker 5: So tell me about games being on tape delay, Ryan, Like, did you just.

00:27:16
Speaker 6: I remember that?

00:27:17
Speaker 2: Oh?

00:27:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, those are the nineties.

00:27:19
Speaker 2: Well. I was working at Channel seven in Evansville doing the weekend news. When the news is over, the Kentucky game would come on on Saturday, we do the news, get out and then boom, there's Rob Bromley doing the Jefferson Pilot tape delay game of a Kentucky game, especially football, those would always be on, always on tape delay. Yeah, so we'd uh. So, you know, you didn't get to watch those games live most of the time. I know there was a station in Evansville used to carry the Indiana games live once once that started, and then finally Channel seven started carrying the Kentucky games live. But that was Yeah, like Channon said.

00:27:51
Speaker 6: What a wild concept.

00:27:53
Speaker 3: I mean, you think, like we're not talking about something to happen in the fifties.

00:27:57
Speaker 6: We're talking about the nineties.

00:27:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, and you guys are all you're chanting, you're alive when we're still doing tape delay.

00:28:04
Speaker 6: Broad now, you couldn't watch that. You had to listen to it on the radio.

00:28:07
Speaker 2: Yep.

00:28:08
Speaker 6: And then you know you get to watch it at eleven o'clock at night.

00:28:11
Speaker 4: And if you did, but there was nothing to spoil you. It's not like you pull out your phone and saw the highlights and well, we're just that was basically just when the game was and.

00:28:17
Speaker 2: You're so during our during our sportscast, we had to warn viewers, now we're about to show you the final score. If you don't want to know, turn away right now. We had to because the game was coming on just a minute or two later after we are sports cast.

00:28:28
Speaker 11: You know.

00:28:29
Speaker 4: Now, like with the NFL, you know they have like the Simpsons games, and they're like change, yeah, yeah, I want AI to get to a point where I can choose to have the Jefferson Pilot broadcast for Kentucky games. So it's like an option if I change, it'll have the Daves and uh, just give me. I'll even stay up watching a replay if I have to. But I would love to just go back for the old, the old time format.

00:28:49
Speaker 5: Well that's a slippery slope now if we're talking about AI, right, because you could get AOI AI K would to do every game from here on out right, and then you would never have anybody replace Tom Leach.

00:28:58
Speaker 2: So, but you're right, it was a big deal. You gotta watch Dave Neil and Dave Baker to Dave's You Go to Day. Dave would do the play by playing and Dave Baker would do, like the halftime report and stuff.

00:29:07
Speaker 4: And just the graphics to bring it back. One game they.

00:29:10
Speaker 2: Should really have, like an old throwback game, the old Jersey.

00:29:14
Speaker 6: Graphics, Tom Hammage, Larry Conley.

00:29:18
Speaker 2: Ah, those were the best.

00:29:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, we were good.

00:29:21
Speaker 6: Yeah.

00:29:21
Speaker 5: So do you ever have the game spoiled for you?

00:29:24
Speaker 2: Uh? Yes, Well I did the sports cast, so I knew the score. I had to, you know, I knew it. Yeah, So very rarely did I get to be surprised with a game, because yeah, they wouldn't come on until well ten thirty Central time, eleven thirty here Eastern time, and you gotta wait till one in the morning for the game was over. A lot of times. Yeah, I was like, don't tell me the score. I'm gonna watch the watch the game when I get home exactly eight five nine, two two eighty seven. Who's next?

00:29:47
Speaker 10: Shning?

00:29:47
Speaker 2: Radio run Radio Ron?

00:29:50
Speaker 4: How are you?

00:29:51
Speaker 2: Radio on?

00:29:52
Speaker 11: I'm doing great, Older statesman. How are you guys doing good?

00:29:59
Speaker 2: Good to hear from you. I hope you did. Everything's doing well.

00:30:02
Speaker 11: Yeah. Well, I've thought since you were asking about the earliest memories, and you know, Ryan, you're sort of the historian. Do you know of anyone that goes back further than I.

00:30:16
Speaker 6: Do you remember the first game years?

00:30:19
Speaker 11: Yeah, Team forty go ahead.

00:30:23
Speaker 2: Well, and then those games were not on not televised. So what's the first time you remember watching a game on TV ron.

00:30:29
Speaker 11: Oh, my goodness, it would have to be fifty one. We had one of the earliest TVs when UK won the NCAA tournament, and the game goes back to I go back to nineteen forty five and forty six is my brightest memory because UK won what we considered the national tournament, and that was the nit. They beat Rhode Island by one point, and they had a twenty eight and two records of that year. And you know who my favorite player was. Here's that run Tingle, Jack Tingle, because I thought the name was kind of funny, you know, and so he was my favorite player. But a lot of people don't know that that Alex Groz was on that team. He had just gotten back from the Army. And I'll never forget the joy and my father and I had in nineteen forty five hearing the Wildcats win the National Invitational Tournament.

00:31:44
Speaker 2: Wow. Wow, it's a different era. I appreciated wrong. Thanks to the phone call. It's a different time. It was crazy how guys would go off fight in the war and then come back and play college basketball for a couple of years. It's just a different time, man, hard to explain.

00:31:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, Jack Tingle, first player from Triple County, says the internet about that from Trimble County, Tremble County eight.

00:32:04
Speaker 2: Two two eight seven. He wann jump on board and after we got radio wrong. Good to hear from him. I know you guys are big. The NFL podcast guys cover zero. Is Kirk Cousins now one of your main stories you're going to cover right now?

00:32:15
Speaker 5: Well, he did make a lot of money, a lot of money. What do you get one hundred and seventy million.

00:32:20
Speaker 2: Or seventy million Kirk Cousins, So probably still be a mentor basically, Yeah, they probably still get Mendoza number one overall and and sit them behind Kirk Cousins at least for a year.

00:32:30
Speaker 5: That seems like to be the plan that they're gonna do.

00:32:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's clearly a Mendoza play in case he's not ready right away. I bet Kirk Kirk starts the season does some mentoring. It's kind of funny though they're kind of the same kind of the same brand. That's but they've got like they have to. Both of them have photos in the locker room wearing all their teammates chains, like I think they'll get along great. Yeah, in Vegas of all places, those two guys, from those two guys. Yeah, it seems to be a Mendoza mentorship playing there, or at least let Cousins start till mendo is ready.

00:33:00
Speaker 2: That seems to be a lot of money to spend it. It had to be a mentor for a couple for five years.

00:33:05
Speaker 4: Heck yeah, that's why the reaction to it was pretty shocking across the board, not that they'd give him the job, but what they got him paid. Especially, it's kind of crazy what the Falcons paid him after having a high draft pick just a couple of years ago. So Kirk Cousins agent is killing it out. They keep getting away with this.

00:33:19
Speaker 5: But you know, Tom Brady's making decisions for the Raiders now, so he probably had his hand in this. Ryan this weekend, the CBS sports documentary about basketball he played at one pm tomorrow.

00:33:32
Speaker 4: We told him four times during the bread are you gonna watch that?

00:33:35
Speaker 2: I forgot about this.

00:33:37
Speaker 4: Billy has has tried to bring this up since the third segment of the show. So when is it?

00:33:42
Speaker 5: Is it tomorrow tomorrow at one pm CBS and Paramount Plus. Is there any sense that you would want to relive what happened with Kentucky basketball?

00:33:52
Speaker 2: This I do because if they're truly gonna go behind the scenes from the whole season, let me know what happened at the Louisville game, show me what happened at the Louisville game. Something happened. I mean, I know they they try to downplay it, but Mark Pope would not have said that if something didn't happen. And it seemed to kind of cover a dark a dark cloud the rest of the season. So let's just let's just get behind the weeds and peel back the curtain and see what's back there.

00:34:16
Speaker 4: It all for me depends on like who has creative control here, because if Kentucky has to saying it, we won't we want to know. But if cebe, if they agreed to just let CBS film whatever and put out whatever, I think it'll be very good. I'm not gonna clear my schedule to watch it. I'll catch the replay because you know, if you're happier times, I'd make sure I'm sitting down at twelve forty five ready to go. But I'll watch it before the weekend's over, just to see what went on.

00:34:38
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll definitely throw it on. But I think you're gonna have to wait till a book comes out before we know what happened in that Louisville pregame. Ryan, Like, that's gonna be in.

00:34:44
Speaker 2: The trailer they put out. They've got to take away saying they say I have fault with my teammates in the locker room, Like what is that all about? You know? He kind of is downplaying it, but I feel like, Pope, why even bring it up If something didn't happen, Something threw them.

00:34:58
Speaker 4: Off the flip the switch too early? Isn't that what he said? Yeah, but it's not just the Louisville game. Are they going to go to Nashville where everybody boot them because they're down thirty at half time? Hopefully they lean more into the Arkansas trip and the Tennessee game and RUP and the LSU come back. But I have a feeling that it's gonna be more on the negative end.

00:35:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, there were still some high moments, right, so hopefully they highlight those and not the disappointment of your two and Mark Pope.

00:35:21
Speaker 4: And as much as the dry race board that's on there, saw that on the trailer, that's on the trailer. It's the dark Pope from behind the scenes a little bit.

00:35:28
Speaker 2: And when did you say? This is gonna air tomorrow? Tomorrow at one o'clock. All right, we got one more second. We gotta take a break. If you want to call and get on board, we'll get you on. Don't forget the documentary tomorrow at one o'clock on CBS and Paramount Brian Levan, Drew Franklin Channing the Dude, and Billy our Sports. This is taking sport tradio man.

00:35:47
Speaker 4: Let me just tell you his Dry.

00:35:51
Speaker 2: Maybe the greatest song in the history of recorded music. Appreciate that. Shannon Darius Trucker. He didn't even write it, but he did a better job singing it.

00:35:59
Speaker 4: You ready for Bourbon Beyond? I'm so excited.

00:36:02
Speaker 2: I cannot wait.

00:36:03
Speaker 4: Great lineup last last year I got see Shannon was my first time, but that lineup came out this year and I think about it often.

00:36:11
Speaker 2: Dave Matthews Band, who you Blowfish, Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton. I mean that alone. Gout Mumford counting Crows, So when is that dead?

00:36:20
Speaker 4: In June, September, September Reilbirds June. Reilbird is also stacked Lberts one in June on one stage on Sunday Rolbird, there's Zach Top Tyler Childers back to back. Just plant me a chair right there and I'm not moving.

00:36:33
Speaker 2: Eight five, nine, two two eighty seven. Who's this? Sponsor?

00:36:36
Speaker 6: Shannon uh Draft Kings. Let's pick the games. What do you say for the final four?

00:36:40
Speaker 3: We got Yukon in Illinois. You got Illinois one and a half point favorite.

00:36:44
Speaker 6: Who you guys have? Ryan?

00:36:46
Speaker 2: Like I said earlier, I'm I'm taking Yukon even though they're the underdog. I'm definitely gonna take Yukon in this one.

00:36:51
Speaker 5: I love Brad Underwood slicked back hair. Give me Illinois the favorite in this one with Orlando Antigua and Big Z Drew.

00:36:58
Speaker 4: I have Yukon Arizon in my bracket and I hope I'm wrong. I want Illinois to win. I think they can do it. They've got the size and they're just such a fun team. Everybody's loving Illinois right now with all the ridiculousness they do, cowboy hats, saying whatever they want, interviews, They're so fun and I hope we could to keep watching them.

00:37:13
Speaker 3: I'm gonna take you Con in that one. So we're split on that game. And then the second game, Michigan Arizona. Michigan's a one and a half point favorite.

00:37:21
Speaker 2: See that surprised me too. I thought Arizona would be the favorite. I mean, these are the two best teams to me all season long, these two teams in Duke. They're meeting in the semifinals. Is gonna be a great game.

00:37:30
Speaker 4: Three of the four are top four in kin Palm. I mean, if Duke had just won it, we literally got the top four teams.

00:37:35
Speaker 2: Is the final four, Well, I'm definitely taking Arizona though in this one.

00:37:38
Speaker 5: Can't wait for this matchup. I'm going Arizona, though, give me the fighting, Tommy Lloyds.

00:37:43
Speaker 4: I'm really conflicted on this one. Michigan's awesome, but Arizona is awesome. I'm gonna say Arizona. I don't want Michigan. I mean, they've already had a great year, but I don't like that they got Yaxel and they have They're the hot team right now. I don't want them getting a ring. I can stomach an Arizona ring.

00:37:58
Speaker 3: Well, I pick Michigan in my brackets, so I guess for the sake of my bracket, I'm going to go with Michigan. I don't have the odds for the crown with college basketball Crown. I know you guys want to pick that, but I don't have it. Unfortunately, I do have the odds for the women.

00:38:10
Speaker 4: Oh you do.

00:38:11
Speaker 6: Okay, let's go through that real quick.

00:38:12
Speaker 4: It's all one seeds, right, the women, all four to one seeds, and all four repeat final four teams from last year.

00:38:18
Speaker 2: I have an oddity, yeah, all for of these teams. So Texas is a one and a half point favorite over UCLA.

00:38:25
Speaker 5: Ya, I'm going Texas, Texas.

00:38:27
Speaker 2: I am too, I'm thinking Texas. Now here's the one. It's kind of interesting. Yukon and South Carolina the two premiere programs. Yukon is a six and a half point favorite over Don Staley in South Carolina. To me, that seems like a lot of points. I think yukame win, but I may take South Carolina to cover.

00:38:43
Speaker 4: It is a lot of points, but they're undefeated. They're thirty eight or thirty nine, and no thirty eight. No, I'll go Yukon.

00:38:51
Speaker 5: I'll go Yukon too, even though I think don Staley will hold her own and South Carolina will have a good showing and it just seems like Yukon's year.

00:38:57
Speaker 6: I think now I'll go you On too.

00:39:00
Speaker 3: Did you see that furniture store that's going to be given away free furniture if you bought furniture from that store between like January thirty first in March the something, I'm not sure what the date of it was, but if both the men's and women's teams make the championship game, they're giving away free furniture.

00:39:18
Speaker 2: In both Ukon teams. Yes, so I guess he may be in trouble.

00:39:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, I hope he got insurance.

00:39:25
Speaker 4: On the men's side. Did you see Michigan's point guard. I had to go to hospital for allergic reaction in Indy. I think it was a nut allergy, but I mean just gets there and allergic reaction hasn't hospitalized. I think he's gonna be okay, but it's not ideal for your starting point guard. You have to go through that right as you get this good too. He's very solid. Yeah, they say he's fine, but he did have to go get medical attention for it.

00:39:46
Speaker 2: You know, one of the best stories is Illinois point guard. To you read this story about him, he's like he was under recruited. He was linked like I don't know, maybe around one hundred or something out of high school and nobody recruited him. Illinois took a flyer on any chance on him and Arder. This year, he had forty nine points in a game, like blossomed out of nowhere to be this superstar Waggler as he's last.

00:40:04
Speaker 4: Year Keaton Waggler. I mean, their whole roster kind of under recruited guys. I mean, we know big Z bounced around a little bit. Now he's having a good year with his brother Thomas Love. That's why they're so fun. I mean, none of them are really high level recruits. A lot of them are earning from America, but they're just having a blast and they're they're easy to root for.

00:40:21
Speaker 5: They're on fire though, like a team that had lost five with their last nine games before the before the tournament started, and they're playing really good.

00:40:28
Speaker 4: So they got a Stoyakovic, I went be pretty bad. Yeah, I was a big Pagia fan. They got a bunch of vics, but he's five of them.

Speaker 4: They also have no media training. I mean they're just cussing like sailors and it's on there ask questions. I mean, maybe that's not for everyone, but I love an Illinois interview.

00:40:48
Speaker 2: And you know, we played Illinois last year in the Sweet sixteen in Milwaukee, and uh yeah, Milwaukee. They had a lot of fans there. They had more fans than Kentucky fans there. So now they're just traveling to Indianapolis for the Final four. I bet they there may have the most fan based there, biggest fan base there.

00:41:02
Speaker 4: Oh, they absolutely, they'll have a huge crowd. And also just the coach o Angle. I'm rooting for him so hard. Matt texted me. For a long time KSR listeners know Coach oh and I had a thing we said back and forth. Can't even say it on radio. And at the Final four or at the lead day, he walked up to Matt and said, tell Drew, I said, you know, so I love that we still have that connection with him, and I want him in Big Z to have have a get a ring at the end of this.
