<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Mess Mornings presented by ms <v Speaker 1>I with me Jeff Grab, your host from Giant bomb <v Speaker 1>dot com. Thank you for tuning in. In this episode, <v Speaker 1>we're going to be talking about the Bomb twelve for <v Speaker 1>the week. Let's see if your game made the cut <v Speaker 1>and reviews are in for Meddal Gear Solid, Delta Snake Eater. <v Speaker 1>We'll talk about that as well as all the other news. <v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one because we have Sean <v Speaker 1>Turbo Sean McDowell on the show. Sean, how are you doing. <v Speaker 2>I'm wondering why someone gave melgar Saw to zero point eight. Jeff, <v Speaker 2>that's just such a weirdos war. He feels like everyone <v Speaker 2>has it. <v Speaker 1>Out for them, right, what kind of that would be? <v Speaker 1>Like a thousand point scale, right or at least yeah, <v Speaker 1>that's yeah, I don't know. <v Speaker 2>Geez, that's just I guess someone entered it backwards on <v Speaker 2>one of the open crect things everyone. <v Speaker 3>So I was a little confused by that, right, So <v Speaker 3>that's it. <v Speaker 1>It's current open critics scores. Maybe it's gonna be a <v Speaker 1>little bit better than what it actually says in the Yeah, <v Speaker 1>that was that's weird. <v Speaker 2>It's like a point or two lower that should be, <v Speaker 2>I think maybe. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. I always wonder how those review aggregation sites work. <v Speaker 1>Is it automated? Understanding is when talking to the people <v Speaker 1>from Metacritic is a lot of it's just done manually. <v Speaker 1>They just go out and they go get the stuff <v Speaker 1>and they put in the reviews themselves. So yeah, I <v Speaker 1>guess someone just put in zero point eight for metal <v Speaker 1>Gear Solid Delta. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it happens. <v Speaker 1>Our wise. <v Speaker 2>Our wise good though, Jeff I followly Golver to Ninja <v Speaker 2>Guy and Rage. <v Speaker 3>Bound and that rules really good? Right with that? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, kicking my ass a little bit, as you might <v Speaker 2>expect from Ninja Guy in game, but it is very fun, <v Speaker 2>have a good time with that. Jeff I realized we <v Speaker 2>often don't ask how you're doing. <v Speaker 1>I'm doing good. Uh, kids are back at school. So <v Speaker 1>that was yesterday and today, and it was it's nice <v Speaker 1>to kind of like, oh, yeah, this, you know, For <v Speaker 1>as much as it sucks to get up early and <v Speaker 1>have that routine meaning you can't bring you got to <v Speaker 1>do it, it is kind of nice to have a <v Speaker 1>little bit of a routine of getting up and now <v Speaker 1>it's like, all right, I got my whole day ahead <v Speaker 1>of me. I guess let's get going. I can take <v Speaker 1>care of some stuff. I stream some skies of Arcadia <v Speaker 1>this morning, something that was a little bit easier than <v Speaker 1>I did that a couple of weeks ago as well, <v Speaker 1>on a Friday morning, and that was a little bit like, <v Speaker 1>let's see if I can do this. Now, it's like, oh, <v Speaker 1>this is easy. I'm ready to go. Let's go play <v Speaker 1>some games. So I'm doing good. It's it is nice <v Speaker 1>to kind of also, you know, have the house be <v Speaker 1>a little bit quiet. Not that I really like having <v Speaker 1>the kids around, but you know, at a certain point <v Speaker 1>that at the end of the summer there you could <v Speaker 1>tell they're getting antsy and they're like, you know, we've <v Speaker 1>kind of done all the things we can do. They've <v Speaker 1>ringed minecraft dry, and it's like, you know what, let's <v Speaker 1>get you back in school and learn it again. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>I think things are going well. Let's let's get into <v Speaker 1>the show though, and explain what we do here. We're <v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb. You go to giant bomb dot com slash <v Speaker 1>join become a premium member. You can <v Speaker 1>also catch the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. <v Speaker 1>Hello YouTube. All right, we have a lot to get into, <v Speaker 1>so let's start the Morning Mess with Metal Gear, Solid <v Speaker 1>Delta Sneakyater reviews. It is at eighty six on Open <v Speaker 1>Critic right now. Although I bet once that zero point <v Speaker 1>eight gets corrected, it'll go up a little bit. <v Speaker 3>I wonder, I wonder. <v Speaker 2>If that's just display error and they enter maybe rightly <v Speaker 2>on the back end, so eighty six might be right. <v Speaker 1>Eighty six is pretty good. It's you know, we were <v Speaker 1>talking about us, we were getting started here, Sean looking <v Speaker 1>at the scores really quick, I. <v Speaker 2>I spread like, eighty six sounds right. It's a lot <v Speaker 2>of nines, a lot of eight's, and a law seven, So. <v Speaker 1>I think eighty says correct, Yeah, exactly. We got one here, <v Speaker 1>nine out of ten from two more who Son at <v Speaker 1>oh Game Spot, Konami's Metal Gear Solid three remake is <v Speaker 1>a safe but successful modernization of a beloved classic. Kieran <v Speaker 1>Verbrugie at Well Played gave it a six out of <v Speaker 1>ten basically says the same thing, though with metal Gear <v Speaker 1>Solid Delta Snake Eater, Konamias crafted a visually arresting re <v Speaker 1>release so fawning and reverent that it reads entirely incurious. <v Speaker 1>Fans of the source material will no doubt relish the <v Speaker 1>opportunity to play a more modern feeling take on a <v Speaker 1>generational piece of art, but such a seemingly important work <v Speaker 1>should inspire more and then a nine out of ten <v Speaker 1>from Liamcroft at Push Square, who says one of the <v Speaker 1>most faithful remakes ever. Middle Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater <v Speaker 1>has made a stealth classic feel modern all over again. <v Speaker 1>Its light but meaningful gameplay updates enhance interaction and feel, <v Speaker 1>while a visual and feel, and then while a visual <v Speaker 1>overall allows it to rub shoulders with the PS five's <v Speaker 1>graphical elite by staying so loyal to its source text, <v Speaker 1>Meddle Gear Solid three is now just as incredible today <v Speaker 1>as it was over twenty years ago. Yeah, we did <v Speaker 1>a quick look. Should be going up soon. It'll be <v Speaker 1>up today for sure. Dan has been playing it, Mike's <v Speaker 1>been playing it. Both of them seem very happy with it. <v Speaker 1>You're a metal Gear Solid three fan as well, right, Sean, <v Speaker 1>I can't remember. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, I like all the Meliar Salad games to <v Speaker 2>some extent. We don't talk about four as much, but <v Speaker 2>so I'm really looking forward to this one, and I <v Speaker 2>have been curious how people would react, And it sounds <v Speaker 2>like both TAM's review and the other one they had <v Speaker 2>pulled here that was on the lower end are saying <v Speaker 2>the same thing, but from different approaches of Hey, this <v Speaker 2>is still Melgar Sawad three, and we knew that going <v Speaker 2>in because we were like using the original voice lines <v Speaker 2>and stuff like that. They really just remade the graphics, <v Speaker 2>and so in that way, it's almost I guess you'd <v Speaker 2>say blue point ish. Yeah, I'm sure they put a <v Speaker 2>little more quality of life in there, and you know <v Speaker 2>this one to I know because I haven't been playing it, <v Speaker 2>but as far as I know, they have been playing <v Speaker 2>like gameplay quality of life stuff too. But it is <v Speaker 2>really that graphical overhaul that is the key, the key <v Speaker 2>appeal here, and I think everyone's going to feel differently <v Speaker 2>about that. I think some people are going to wish. <v Speaker 3>For a little bit more. <v Speaker 2>Last year, especially around Game of the Year, we talked <v Speaker 2>about how Persona three reload I think is like the <v Speaker 2>new bar for a faithful remake. Yeah, or that what <v Speaker 2>like Resident Evil one remake. But I think we've reached <v Speaker 2>the point where maybe people do want more from a <v Speaker 2>remake like this, And so I think it depends on <v Speaker 2>how much do you appreciate the original and want it <v Speaker 2>to just be the original. I think some people are <v Speaker 2>looking for a bit more, right. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think so. And you know, I get where <v Speaker 1>curing is coming from of, you know, using this as <v Speaker 1>a chance to look back at something and having some <v Speaker 1>curiosity about it, maybe not deconstructing it, but kind of <v Speaker 1>looking at at the way it works, maybe a little <v Speaker 1>bit deeper, and rebuilding it as you go to re <v Speaker 1>release it like this. And yet I do think that <v Speaker 1>most of the reviews do reveal that this was likely <v Speaker 1>the right call to just kind of make that game again, <v Speaker 1>make it look better, make it more accessible, so now <v Speaker 1>more even more people can play it. More people will <v Speaker 1>play it now because of this version and that's maybe <v Speaker 1>the real, maybe the most noble goal you can have <v Speaker 1>with one of these is just make a game, bring <v Speaker 1>it back, and give more people a chance to play it. <v Speaker 1>And it succeeds on that front for sure, And for. <v Speaker 2>Once, it's a smart move from Kanami because they you know, <v Speaker 2>they gotta be careful how they treat this series, because <v Speaker 2>if they try to do something too different or you know, <v Speaker 2>change too much of an established classic that they have <v Speaker 2>from Kojuma or anyone else, people are gonna get angry <v Speaker 2>because people, you know, I've been trained to not like Kanami, <v Speaker 2>and so I think this was probably the smart play <v Speaker 2>if they were going to do it, if they were <v Speaker 2>to add more to change more than what have been <v Speaker 2>riskier move. So I think they probably made the right <v Speaker 2>call with this one, even if it's not going to <v Speaker 2>please everyone. I think these or overall reflect that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. Middle Gear Solid Meadow Gear Solid three a game <v Speaker 1>that I never played originally, but kind of sitting in <v Speaker 1>that quick look with Dan, I like caught on pretty <v Speaker 1>quickly that there is a lot of quirks to the game, <v Speaker 1>and not like quirks as in unintended sort of oddities <v Speaker 1>about it, but deeply intended moment, intended moments that you <v Speaker 1>could have missed. Yeah, you know, just the like saving <v Speaker 1>the game, letting it sit for a long time, coming <v Speaker 1>back to it, and what happens to the end. I'm like, wait, okay, <v Speaker 1>And apparently there's more to the game that, like, you know, <v Speaker 1>you say, the game, let it sit, the food spoils, <v Speaker 1>that sort of thing. I do think for this game <v Speaker 1>in particular, it's probably worth preserving all of that as <v Speaker 1>it was, so you could just see how strange the <v Speaker 1>game is in some ways or interesting. Is maybe the <v Speaker 1>better works. It's not strange, it's kind of cool. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it was ahead of its time, always working with <v Speaker 2>the real time clock and earthing on the PS two. <v Speaker 1>Yes, it's yeah right, Like the Dan feeds them some <v Speaker 1>bad meat and then spins them around in the character <v Speaker 1>viewer and he throws making him dizzy, and then he <v Speaker 1>throws up. That's fun stuff. And it's like, you know, <v Speaker 1>of course, you could do a complete remake from the <v Speaker 1>ground up in terms of the gameplay and then put <v Speaker 1>all that stuff back in. But I think there's something <v Speaker 1>to be said about No, this is just it. That's <v Speaker 1>what it did back then, doing exactly the same thing <v Speaker 1>now and it looks better, so more people will feel <v Speaker 1>willing to give the game, you know, seventy dollars to <v Speaker 1>play it or however much it costs. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, some of the all time grates were great because <v Speaker 2>they were just to have their time and you don't <v Speaker 2>need to change them from a gameplay perspective, maybe control perspective, <v Speaker 2>which I believe this one does a little bit. Gives <v Speaker 2>you at least the option for more modern controls in <v Speaker 2>some ways, but you know, to take one of the <v Speaker 2>like on dispute rates like Mario sixty four. Are you <v Speaker 2>really gonna change Mario sixty four that much? Or are you <v Speaker 2>just gonna like make it look prettier than ever. That's <v Speaker 2>the kind of thing where I, yeah, I think that's <v Speaker 2>what they need to do here, and I from our <v Speaker 2>thing i've seen, it seems like they succeeded yep. <v Speaker 1>And they also like went all out, including for this <v Speaker 1>next story, which is still middle Gear Solid Delta. Platinum <v Speaker 1>Games developed middle Gear Delta Snake Eater's Secret Mode. This <v Speaker 1>is also from Tumor Hussein. Platinum Games, the developer of <v Speaker 1>acclaimed action titles including Bayonetta and Near Automata, contributed to <v Speaker 1>the development of Konami's medal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater. <v Speaker 1>Konami has confirmed specifically Platinum created a new version of <v Speaker 1>Snake's Nightmare and easter egg that longtime fans of Middle <v Speaker 1>Gear Solid three will excuse me no doubt relish. The <v Speaker 1>Return of Snake's Nightmare is a third person action sequence <v Speaker 1>that is accessed by saving the game when Snake is <v Speaker 1>captured and thrown in prison. When the save file is reloaded, <v Speaker 1>instead of going back to the prison, players wake up <v Speaker 1>in a hellish other world where a mysterious man welding <v Speaker 1>hook swords takes on demons in a graveyard. The mini game, <v Speaker 1>also known to fans as Guy Savage, was originally written <v Speaker 1>and directed by Shugio Morada, who contrib contributed to a <v Speaker 1>number of other Metal Gear Solid projects as part of <v Speaker 1>the original Kojama production team. Although Metal Gear Salad three <v Speaker 1>has been re released in various forms since its debut <v Speaker 1>on the PlayStation two, Snake's Nightmare slash Guy Savage has <v Speaker 1>been omitted in the majority of them. For Delta, a <v Speaker 1>complete and faithful remake of the original Metal Gear Salad three, <v Speaker 1>Konami went the extra mile and brought in Platinum to <v Speaker 1>rebuild the hidden mode. As stated in our review, it's <v Speaker 1>an excellent return for the Easter Egg. We also showed <v Speaker 1>this off in the Quick Look, which is, you know, <v Speaker 1>I just had no idea about this, Sean, I didn't <v Speaker 1>know this was a thing at all, and then finding <v Speaker 1>out Platinum helped out with that, well that I looked down, like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>that makes sense. It looks like that. Did it always <v Speaker 1>kind of like play like that? Or does is this <v Speaker 1>a little bit more changed or do you not remember? <v Speaker 3>I don't know, so I actually don't know. <v Speaker 2>I've never actually played Guy Savage because I've never played <v Speaker 2>the original, right, Okay, yeah, of Snake Eaters. <v Speaker 3>So I don't know. <v Speaker 2>I've only heard from people and seen some gameplay, so <v Speaker 2>I can only assume. <v Speaker 3>But it was always like. <v Speaker 4>My my remembering of the development history is that it <v Speaker 4>was just like a concept pitch for some totally different game, <v Speaker 4>and then like they Kojumo wanted like a sequence that <v Speaker 4>was so weird and different for like this Easter Egg. <v Speaker 3>Right, and they that fit the bill in there. <v Speaker 2>Okay, I forget exactly how it works out, but yeah, <v Speaker 2>it was more like, uh, kind of an action gamey <v Speaker 2>thing as far as I understand, but I could be <v Speaker 2>wrong about that. Uh tell you what, seeing Platinum Games <v Speaker 2>and Metal Gear in the same sentence, this is not <v Speaker 2>how I want to see it happen. <v Speaker 1>But but well, you know that's right. That's the thing though. <v Speaker 1>It's like we can now say, hey, maybe that this <v Speaker 1>leads back to a new revengeance. Is that just getting <v Speaker 1>our hopes way too high? I'm obviously Plant is such <v Speaker 1>a different thing. Platinum is a very different thing. Now. <v Speaker 1>They are in sort of like say themselves mode? What <v Speaker 1>is there there? They are, They're worked on Ninja Guide <v Speaker 1>them for right, that's their big thing right now and <v Speaker 1>then and then they have said that they want to <v Speaker 1>try to like maybe get back to some of that <v Speaker 1>stuff in some ways, but they've lost a lot of talent, <v Speaker 1>people kind of leading the company go start their own <v Speaker 1>things again or go back to Capcom. So yeah, maybe <v Speaker 1>this is the kind of thing where it's like, this <v Speaker 1>is nice that it happened, but don't expect a revengeance <v Speaker 1>too anytime soon. <v Speaker 2>Right, No, Yeah, we got that teas a long time <v Speaker 2>ago where it's just straight up it was teasing a <v Speaker 2>playstationing event and everyone's. <v Speaker 3>Like, well, what happened here like that. <v Speaker 2>You were clearly teasing MGR two, And yeah, as far <v Speaker 2>as I know, that was a thing they were working <v Speaker 2>on that it just like went away and is probably <v Speaker 2>never coming back. So I kind of remind myself that <v Speaker 2>not get my hopes up about that one. But yeah, <v Speaker 2>it is cool. Yeah, and it's nice. Konami's like doing <v Speaker 2>things again back in a lot of ways. Maybe not <v Speaker 2>that back, right, No, yeah, not in that way, because <v Speaker 2>that would be like I was trying to get out <v Speaker 2>with the first segment. I don't think they want to <v Speaker 2>do too much of a metal gear because of the. <v Speaker 3>Weirdness with coach men and everything. <v Speaker 2>They would have to, like, yeah, really bring things back, <v Speaker 2>maybe do like even two more remakes or something before <v Speaker 2>you're like, well, this is our series, so I guess <v Speaker 2>we can do a new one. And even then fans <v Speaker 2>would probably be commad. So yeah, they have to be <v Speaker 2>very cautious about that one. I don't think they would <v Speaker 2>jump into a new project or anything. But speaking to <v Speaker 2>the story here itself, it is really cool that they <v Speaker 2>went through the effort of bringing back this mode that <v Speaker 2>was taken out. I don't remember why it was taken <v Speaker 2>out specifically, but yeah, it wasn't in HD. I believe <v Speaker 2>because I think I will have played it. That's that's <v Speaker 2>the one I originally played it back in the day. <v Speaker 2>So it's nice that they did put in that effort <v Speaker 2>to have again have it be a faithful remake. <v Speaker 1>Yep, Yeah, it's this does feel like going all out, <v Speaker 1>and at a point, if you are going to do <v Speaker 1>the thing of faithful remake and it's gonna you're not <v Speaker 1>gonna do it too much. On top of that, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>there's some quality of life stuff here and there some <v Speaker 1>improvements here there, But if you're gonna do that, then <v Speaker 1>you really got it. I do feel like you have <v Speaker 1>to do it all you kind of can't leave anything <v Speaker 1>behind and kind of complete the package. Make this the <v Speaker 1>definitive experience. And this really goes a long way toward <v Speaker 1>making it feel exactly like that. So well played by Konami. <v Speaker 1>I'm glad they were able to make this happen. All right, <v Speaker 1>we are going to run to our break now. As <v Speaker 1>I mentioned, this show is brought to you by MSI. <v Speaker 1>We're going to go talk about that right now. They have <v Speaker 1>a booth. If you find that booth, which I think <v Speaker 1>we will have some details with you. We'll probably post <v Speaker 1>this somewhere, maybe in my discord exactly the booth number. <v Speaker 1>But find ms I go there and say, hey, Giant <v Speaker 1>Bomb sit mean that you'll get entered into a chance <v Speaker 1>to win some of their goodies, including I think some <v Speaker 1>of the motherboards we were just talking about. You know, that's part of being part <v Speaker 1>of the Giant Bomb community is you get a chance <v Speaker 1>to score some goodies. As always, let's get back into it, <v Speaker 1>Sean Jeff Grubb, let's do the news. Longtime Bungie boss <v Speaker 1>Pete Parsons announced his departure after two decades at the company. <v Speaker 1>This is from Blair Marnell at GameSpot. Until recently, Bungie's <v Speaker 1>next game, Marathon, was slated to release in September, but <v Speaker 1>the game was delayed indefinitely in June amid reports that <v Speaker 1>Bungie will lose its independence by fully integrating into PlayStation studios, <v Speaker 1>something that's been in the work for a while now. <v Speaker 1>Bungie's CEO Pete Parsons has announced his departure from the <v Speaker 1>studio after over two decades. Parsons joined Bungie in two <v Speaker 1>thousand and two and served as COO before being promoted <v Speaker 1>to CEO in early twenty sixteen. In a statement shared <v Speaker 1>on Bungie's official site, Bungie called his stint on top <v Speaker 1>of the Bunchie called his stent on top of the <v Speaker 1>company the honor of a lifetime. I think they probably. <v Speaker 1>Parsons called that in honor of a lifetime and added <v Speaker 1>that he is deeply proud of the worlds we've built <v Speaker 1>together and the millions of players who call them home. <v Speaker 1>Before closing his statement, Parsons announced that Chief development Officer <v Speaker 1>Justin Truman will be the new head of Bungie. He <v Speaker 1>also endorsed Truman as his successor. I've worked alongside Justin <v Speaker 1>for many years, said Parsons. His passion for our games, <v Speaker 1>our team, and our players is unmatched. As a leader <v Speaker 1>in engineering, production, production of design, and mostly as the <v Speaker 1>general manager for Destiny Too and our chief development officer. <v Speaker 1>He has been instrumental in bringing some of the most <v Speaker 1>memorable moments in Bungie's history to life. He lives and <v Speaker 1>breathes this studio, and I have full confidence that he <v Speaker 1>is the right person to lead Bungie forward. This, of course, <v Speaker 1>comes after in late July twenty twenty four, Bunchie was <v Speaker 1>hit by mass layoffs that included or you know whether <v Speaker 1>they were including the layoffs or just left Luke Smith <v Speaker 1>and Mark Noseworthy, who left the company. Former bune employees <v Speaker 1>have also come forward and accused the company of a <v Speaker 1>being driven by greed thanks to a toxic corporate culture. <v Speaker 1>And also this is in the follow up to that <v Speaker 1>those tests for Marathon, the public tests that people were <v Speaker 1>talking about and did not seem too hot on. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>this is maybe not too surprising, I think, especially with <v Speaker 1>the idea that Sony is PlayStation Studio specifically is sort <v Speaker 1>of taking over Bungie, which was never supposed to be <v Speaker 1>the way it was going to work. Sean, It was <v Speaker 1>a Sony is making this acquisition and Bungee will stand <v Speaker 1>alongside PlayStation Studios, but separate and be its own thing. <v Speaker 1>And oh my god, Destiny's not making the money we <v Speaker 1>thought it would make and Marathon is kind of a mess. <v Speaker 1>So now you're a PlayStation studios a studio. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, the original idea was more of like a Bethesda thing, right, <v Speaker 2>where like Bethesda very much owned by Microsoft by Xbox, <v Speaker 2>but they do operate pretty independently. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, they're own vertical. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, they just like have their games on Pass <v Speaker 2>and stuff like that. <v Speaker 3>I that was the idea here, but that. <v Speaker 1>Even but even more independent because like even when that <v Speaker 1>was happening with Bethesda, there was, oh, you know, Starfield's <v Speaker 1>going to be exclusive. Now that's changed obviously, but but <v Speaker 1>Buns Bunches games, We're never even going to be exclusive <v Speaker 1>now now, I still don't think they're going to be exclusive, <v Speaker 1>just because the kinds of games they are. And Sony's <v Speaker 1>not necessarily super concerned about that right now, because keeping <v Speaker 1>games off Xbox was not It's just not high on <v Speaker 1>their list of things that they're worried about anymore. <v Speaker 2>It's on anyone's list anymore, because exactly everyone's looking around saying, hey, <v Speaker 2>we need the money, Yeah, you know what, we'll open <v Speaker 2>things up a little bit. <v Speaker 1>Why not, Right, So this is very much about PlayStation <v Speaker 1>taking over Bungee. Pete Parsons, Uh, you know, is the <v Speaker 1>is probably the person that should take the fall, so <v Speaker 1>getting it probably the right move. Yeah, how do you <v Speaker 1>feel about that? <v Speaker 2>I have not followed Bungie really at all in the <v Speaker 2>Destiny era like and yes that means from like twenty <v Speaker 2>thirteen onward, just because not not my kind of games, <v Speaker 2>Like hopped into Destiny one for a little bit, but <v Speaker 2>then I'm just like, eh, yeah, this live style of stuff. <v Speaker 2>This isn't really why I came to Bungee for back <v Speaker 2>in the day. So I'll let them do their thing. <v Speaker 2>So I was gonna be like, Pete Parsons, is that <v Speaker 2>the dude who sucks? And then I look into the chat. Ah, <v Speaker 2>that's how everyone feels about him, got it? <v Speaker 1>He sucks? He's the god. I mean, I can't remember. <v Speaker 1>That seems like the classic Car story where it's like <v Speaker 1>he was he would like talk to people about his <v Speaker 1>classic cars like the day before laying them off. Is <v Speaker 1>that maybe getting that story wrong? Everybody don't take that <v Speaker 1>and I'll get confirmation from the chat here a second <v Speaker 1>if I messed that up. But I think that's how <v Speaker 1>it went I remember Pete Parsons from saying that Microsoft <v Speaker 1>was like price sing out a reacquisition of Bungeee, and <v Speaker 1>then Pete Parson's like, that story is not true, and <v Speaker 1>they wouldn't say what part wasn't true, And then it <v Speaker 1>turned out later it was true, and he just went <v Speaker 1>out there and yeah, one of those Yeah, maybe it <v Speaker 1>was actually the most one of those ever that I've <v Speaker 1>experienced of Like this was just straight up like pulling <v Speaker 1>the wool over people's eyes or trying to trick them. <v Speaker 1>And I know that's the case. And me and these <v Speaker 1>other people who were reporting it were kind of talking <v Speaker 1>to each other being like, he's fucking with people, right, <v Speaker 1>He's just straight up blind, like yeah, and he was, <v Speaker 1>but he's gone now. I guess, Sean, I don't really <v Speaker 1>I don't follow a bunch of all that much anymore. <v Speaker 1>I have plenty of friends who do, people who really <v Speaker 1>have loved Destiny and Destiny Too, And I do like wonder, <v Speaker 1>like what the future of this studio is. It is <v Speaker 1>probably something along the lines of hoping for the best <v Speaker 1>for Marathon and for keeping Destiny Too going. They probably <v Speaker 1>come back in a couple of years with a reset <v Speaker 1>like focus on something new at that point, right, because <v Speaker 1>I just don't see Marathon working. <v Speaker 2>I don't see Marathon working either. I've been I've been <v Speaker 2>thinking about why exactly I feel that way, and I <v Speaker 2>forget who. But someone in the chat mentioned the other <v Speaker 2>day a very good point. People keep trying to make <v Speaker 2>extraction shooters a thing, but extraction shooters are specifically for <v Speaker 2>the sickos, people who want tons of systems, who want <v Speaker 2>lots of realism in their game, and that genre, any <v Speaker 2>genre like that, is only going to get so big, <v Speaker 2>you know, like a sim racing for example. That's the <v Speaker 2>kind of thing where it did explode in popularity, especially <v Speaker 2>like during the pandemic I think, or pre pandemic a <v Speaker 2>little bit. <v Speaker 3>But you're only going to get so many people doing that. <v Speaker 2>So even if you capture everyone who wants that right away, <v Speaker 2>well maybe you've his ceiling already. And so that's the <v Speaker 2>thing with Marathon where it feels like yet another example <v Speaker 2>of them trying to bring this niche franchise to a <v Speaker 2>giant audience because they're like, oh, this genre, this niche <v Speaker 2>is growing so rapidly, and they're not seeing the ceiling <v Speaker 2>that maybe a lot of us are seeing, and a <v Speaker 2>lot of us are bouncing off of these kinds of <v Speaker 2>games because we're like, well, this is kind of like <v Speaker 2>the last one. It's like when everyone tried making a <v Speaker 2>Battle Royale. Yes, yeah, yeah, even worse because balle Royale <v Speaker 2>at least everyone wraps their head around that right away. <v Speaker 2>But even with something like that, we only needed really <v Speaker 2>a PUBG, a Fortnite and a Call of Duty. And <v Speaker 2>even then Pubg is like, you know, still big with <v Speaker 2>petering out and I don't know what they're looking at <v Speaker 2>here with Marathon, but it feels misguided to me. The <v Speaker 2>entire project has, so yeah, I think you're right. I <v Speaker 2>don't see Marathon doing particularly well, even if as Bundy's <v Speaker 2>name behind it, EF has PlayStation behind it, because I <v Speaker 2>don't know, it looks cool like graphically and everything, but <v Speaker 2>I don't see anything that's really gonna draw people in <v Speaker 2>as opposed to any other shooter. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, Dougman and Chat points out the shooter. The professional <v Speaker 1>game player Shroud said that standing off the rough edges <v Speaker 1>takes away everything that makes extraction shooters what they are, <v Speaker 1>and it's like, yeah, I could I could almost see that, <v Speaker 1>like Marathon being a somewhat case study similar to what <v Speaker 1>has happened recently with a Monster Hunter A while yeah, Wilds, <v Speaker 1>where it's like that game like is being accused of <v Speaker 1>standing off the rough edges of that genre to the <v Speaker 1>point where it's not exactly the game that people who <v Speaker 1>fell in love with it wanted it to be. And <v Speaker 1>I think that for a lot of these genres, and <v Speaker 1>maybe this is because we're in like a post Dark <v Speaker 1>Soul's world. We want our rough edges because we want <v Speaker 1>to like like we wear them as badges of pride. <v Speaker 1>Of Hey, I played this game, and I moved, I <v Speaker 1>went through all its bullshit and I own its bullshit. <v Speaker 1>Now I'm the king of this bullshit because I figured <v Speaker 1>it out, and now I have this this identity that <v Speaker 1>I can attach to this game of I'm someone who <v Speaker 1>can handle a game like this. And I think Marathon <v Speaker 1>being like we're going to be the very friendly version <v Speaker 1>of this and trying to present it that way is <v Speaker 1>maybe a bad idea. Right, I'm just fundamentally broken. <v Speaker 3>I was trying to. <v Speaker 2>Remember, like, wait, I've seen this video. Why it's because <v Speaker 2>Maximilian like a watchdown stream one time to explain why <v Speaker 2>fighting games are in a bad spot, right, now is <v Speaker 2>because same thing there, they're trying to stand off two <v Speaker 2>many rough edges, which you know, you take away some <v Speaker 2>of that stuff. You're also taking away some of the depth, <v Speaker 2>and you're taking away some of the reasons that people <v Speaker 2>want to be there playing these games in the first place, <v Speaker 2>because it does feel a little you know what you <v Speaker 2>call like esoteric, I guess, compared to everything else, it <v Speaker 2>feels so different. And when you try to take something <v Speaker 2>like that, any of these genres that are more niche <v Speaker 2>and make them much more mainstream rather than making them <v Speaker 2>accessible in terms of like tutorials and like control methods <v Speaker 2>and things like that, you really are taking away some <v Speaker 2>of what makes them special and you are homogenizing I <v Speaker 2>guess them. To me, Yeah, that's why when I look <v Speaker 2>at Marathon, I'm like, well, how how is this different <v Speaker 2>than any other shooter at this point? Oh? Because you <v Speaker 2>keep some of the stuff when you leave the match. <v Speaker 2>Oh okay, I guess I don't get it. And maybe <v Speaker 2>I don't get it because they are taking way some <v Speaker 2>of the stuff that people like from Tarakov and stuff <v Speaker 2>I don't know. <v Speaker 1>Yep. Yeah, people point out and shat like sixty two <v Speaker 1>micxs pubg to Fortnite happens successfully. That's like right, so <v Speaker 1>it does. It has worked the other way where it <v Speaker 1>takes something that is weird and strange make it friendly. <v Speaker 3>And I would argue very straightforward though. <v Speaker 1>Exactly, I think I think I'm with you on that. <v Speaker 1>Like the the things that made PUBG different from Fortnite <v Speaker 1>are it's it is very obsessed with like physics and <v Speaker 1>things like that, and I do prefer that, But I <v Speaker 1>don't think that game has the sort of it's not <v Speaker 1>even as complicated as like a Pokemon like and I <v Speaker 1>you know, we're talking about like these niche like like pokemons, <v Speaker 1>like Pokemon's got like depth to it, like you like <v Speaker 1>a kid that goes super super into Pokemon. It's like <v Speaker 1>one of the things they like about it as a <v Speaker 1>kid is they understand understand a world and the way <v Speaker 1>things work that their parents don't understand, and that makes <v Speaker 1>them feel an ownership of it. And that's that feeling <v Speaker 1>never really goes away. And I don't think bat Royal's <v Speaker 1>ever word that that Arroyales are, Oh it's cool to <v Speaker 1>be the last person standing and that. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's just that, Yeah, it's an elimination mode basically. <v Speaker 2>I mean that's why Call of Duty kind of took <v Speaker 2>over from where PUBG was going, Like war Zone became <v Speaker 2>the more quote realistic one of those because it is <v Speaker 2>doing that stuff like you mentioned, with the physics and everything. <v Speaker 2>The way it handles inventory and stuff was very similar, <v Speaker 2>and so I think they were actually smart about making <v Speaker 2>that a mode within another game effectively, even though war <v Speaker 2>Zone has become even bigger than Call of Duty multiplayer, <v Speaker 2>I think that was the right approach for them to <v Speaker 2>take with that because someone, you know, as much as <v Speaker 2>we hate the Call of Duty app, the client people <v Speaker 2>do just stay in there and they slowly migrate from <v Speaker 2>multiplayer over a war Zone or vice versa if they're <v Speaker 2>getting tired to war Zone. And when you take that <v Speaker 2>and try to make it its own, do we know <v Speaker 2>how much Marathon they're like aiming for. They said it's <v Speaker 2>not going to be a full price game, but it's <v Speaker 2>going to be a premium price, so we're assuming well <v Speaker 2>forty or fifty. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think we were assuming forty. The concord price <v Speaker 1>is what we call it. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Having that as opposed to be like a big free <v Speaker 2>to play mode within Destiny or something similar to that, <v Speaker 2>I think that might be. <v Speaker 1>A tough sell for people, yep, and people keep bringing <v Speaker 1>up our graders as well in chat, like that's an <v Speaker 1>extraction shooter at least extraction Like. I haven't played it, <v Speaker 1>but I know it has some of those elements, and <v Speaker 1>people seem very hot on that one, so we'll see. <v Speaker 1>That's from the team that did the finals, and the <v Speaker 1>finals popped off really hard at first and kind of <v Speaker 1>waned a little bit. I think our craaders might be <v Speaker 1>able to get through that and get on the other <v Speaker 1>side and become massive, as many people in chatter suggesting, yeah, <v Speaker 1>Dusk Gulam, let's so I'm skipping this one. Oh, let's <v Speaker 1>do this one first, because we were just talking about <v Speaker 1>extraction shooters, So let's do this one. Escape from Tarkoff <v Speaker 1>will finally escape early access this fall. This is from <v Speaker 1>Blair mar Now at GameSpot. Battle State Games has been <v Speaker 1>developing its intense first person tactical shooter Escape from Tarkoff <v Speaker 1>since twenty twelve. All so the closed beta debuted in <v Speaker 1>twenty seventeen, players had no idea when to expect the <v Speaker 1>full release. Now, Battle State Games has shared a new <v Speaker 1>live action Escape from Tarkoff trailer that confirms its exit <v Speaker 1>from early access this fall. The November fifteenth release date <v Speaker 1>was revealed in the closing seconds of the video. Studio <v Speaker 1>head Nikita Buyanoff subsequently confirmed the date on his Twitter account. <v Speaker 1>Very little was shared about what will be included in <v Speaker 1>Escape from Tarkoff version one at one point oh that is, <v Speaker 1>presumably it will have some story content as well as <v Speaker 1>refined maps, weapons, and quality of life improvements, but absent <v Speaker 1>any further details from Battlestate Games, they can only speculate <v Speaker 1>in this story. So yeah, I mean, this is another <v Speaker 1>one where it's like, Okay, Tarkoff not even in one <v Speaker 1>point zero, and this will be a moment when people <v Speaker 1>do go check this game out. So this is like, <v Speaker 1>this could be another sort of resurgence for that game, <v Speaker 1>a game that doesn't really need a research it's already <v Speaker 1>a super mega popular and it's like, God, Marathon definitely <v Speaker 1>smart that they moved that game, because if this was <v Speaker 1>happening at the same time, that would have looked really tough. <v Speaker 1>But even by March of next year, which is which <v Speaker 1>is now the expected to release date for Marathon, because <v Speaker 1>they said it would be out this fiscal year, I <v Speaker 1>think they're gonna it's gonna be tough with this and <v Speaker 1>Arc Creators kind of circling it. It's gonna it's gonna <v Speaker 1>be a tough space. Tarkoff already dominates it and that's <v Speaker 1>not gonna change. <v Speaker 5>Uh. <v Speaker 3>Could you keep reading that next bullet point? Please? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, let's keep going here. Let's see. Battle State Games <v Speaker 1>has kept a community of Escape from Tarkoff players together <v Speaker 1>for over eight years. However, there have been some issues <v Speaker 1>that caused friction between the studio and its fans, after <v Speaker 1>releasing a one hundred and fifty dollars Edge of Darkness <v Speaker 1>Limited Edition that was said to include all future DLC <v Speaker 1>Battle State games released, Escape from Tarkoff Arena and the <v Speaker 1>game's PV mode as separate two hundred and fifty dollars purchases. <v Speaker 1>That led to a backlash against the studio and a <v Speaker 1>subsequent apology from Battle State Games with a promise to <v Speaker 1>let Edge of Darkness owners access PV mode the PV <v Speaker 1>mode as well. <v Speaker 3>That's the right target. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, I think I forgot about this aspect of this, remember, <v Speaker 2>I think that might be what everyone's chasing though, is <v Speaker 2>trying to get the Sikos to spend a lot of <v Speaker 2>money in their game, and yeah, I know people who <v Speaker 2>have spent a lot of money I Escape from Tarakov. <v Speaker 2>Even if there's backlash, there's always people who want that <v Speaker 2>sick oh shit, because if it's the one game they play, uh, <v Speaker 2>they're willing to. I know a guy I used to <v Speaker 2>work with, what what was it, whichever series the mech <v Speaker 2>series are still going, Mech Warrior, Mech Assault, whichever one. <v Speaker 3>It is in the new one. <v Speaker 2>He was like, yeah, I've you know, over the years, <v Speaker 2>I probably sent like a thousand dollars in micro transactions. <v Speaker 3>I was just like, what do you mean? <v Speaker 2>You've spent one thousand dollars in micro transactions as single game, <v Speaker 2>even if it is over course of years. And I <v Speaker 2>think the fact that some people are willing to pay <v Speaker 2>for that kind of stuff is why you do see <v Speaker 2>like Bungee and people going after it. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, as for Escape from Tarakov itself, boy, that's <v Speaker 2>a long time for a one point oh huh huh. <v Speaker 1>I mean that's I mean, that's what happens with some <v Speaker 1>of these live service games like Fortnite was in beta <v Speaker 1>for years and it's like, obviously that is a term <v Speaker 1>you just make up. It doesn't mean anything. Uh, and <v Speaker 1>and in this case probably this probably doesn't mean a <v Speaker 1>lot either. But they can treat this like a big <v Speaker 1>important marketing point and it is the kind of thing <v Speaker 1>where they can introduce new stuff that is two hundred <v Speaker 1>and fifty dollars and probably capture a lot more money. <v Speaker 1>You're right, though, one that like a developer working on <v Speaker 1>a game like this, goes to one of these like <v Speaker 1>GDCS or a GDC equivalent, gives a talk about their <v Speaker 1>whale spending, and people from these other publishers hear that <v Speaker 1>and they just cannot help themselves. So like, we have <v Speaker 1>to get in on this action. <v Speaker 3>Now, that's why I see and stuff, right yeah. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, And but executing on that, especially for a a <v Speaker 1>esoteric genre like this, very difficult. But they don't care <v Speaker 1>about that. They just see the dollar signs. So and <v Speaker 1>they have to learn to. <v Speaker 2>Do the mental math that they basically have to steal <v Speaker 2>audience from the other game, and that will not always <v Speaker 2>be successful. <v Speaker 1>Yep. Absolutely, it's uh, it's not surprising because it happens <v Speaker 1>over and over again. These companies always do this. They <v Speaker 1>see the dollar signs, chase them, they crash and burn, <v Speaker 1>and then they go to the next thing to chase, and. <v Speaker 3>It's yeah, they're like a fucking Looney Tunes character. <v Speaker 2>Every single time they see the big old dollar signs <v Speaker 2>in their eyes and they are the blinded to everything else. <v Speaker 3>It's it's incredible. <v Speaker 1>All right, Let's let's shift up gears here. Maybe no <v Speaker 1>more extraction shooters for the moment. Dusk Gullum, who is <v Speaker 1>someone who's leaks some stuff from Capcom before, there's a <v Speaker 1>decent track record, not perfect, says Resident Evil Code Veronica <v Speaker 1>remake being treated as a big budget, mainline Resident Evil game. <v Speaker 1>This is from my Nintendo News. Resident Evil insider dusk <v Speaker 1>Gullum has revealed some information on the long rumored Resident <v Speaker 1>Evil Code Veronica remake from Capcom. Dusk Gullum says that <v Speaker 1>the Resident Evil Code Veronica remake is being handled by <v Speaker 1>the same team which worked on the excellent Resident Evil <v Speaker 1>two and Resident Evil four remix, and that Capcom is <v Speaker 1>treating it as a big triple A Resident Evil release, <v Speaker 1>So expect fancy visuals and a moody, dark, dark atmosphere <v Speaker 1>like a full blown upgrade for this for this game. <v Speaker 1>As a reminder, this is one of the games that <v Speaker 1>is expected either in twenty twenty seven or twenty twenty eight, <v Speaker 1>but probably twenty twenty seven, and then Duscollum said they're <v Speaker 1>also doing Resident Evil zero, which will probably follow in <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty eight, but we don't know those dates could <v Speaker 1>be flipped. Hey, I that sounds real good to me. <v Speaker 1>I think cod Roonic Code Veronica is ripe to get <v Speaker 1>this treatment and a game that a lot of people <v Speaker 1>liked at the time, but I think a lot of <v Speaker 1>even Resident Evil fans in that moment didn't go to <v Speaker 1>play it right away because it was on Dreamcast and <v Speaker 1>people were used to that series on PlayStation, and then <v Speaker 1>it showed up a bunch of other places later. But <v Speaker 1>by that time, Resident Evil four was happening and it <v Speaker 1>will released was coming, and Resident Evil four was like <v Speaker 1>this huge change for the series, and it felt like <v Speaker 1>everything else before that was a little bit archaic again <v Speaker 1>in that moment. So I think like having them treating <v Speaker 1>this as a big important game for Resident Evil is <v Speaker 1>the right move. I think it's going to pay off <v Speaker 1>and I'm looking forward to it. How about you? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? Same. <v Speaker 2>This is actually related to the story we talked about <v Speaker 2>last week, the episode when they when Dusk Golam first, <v Speaker 2>like talked about these things, and I do think I <v Speaker 2>maintained I said back in that episode of Code Veronica <v Speaker 2>and zero are the ones that need full on remakes. <v Speaker 2>And I think some people were confused to why I <v Speaker 2>said that five and six don't need remakes, and I <v Speaker 2>do stand by that, because don't let your favorite angry <v Speaker 2>YouTuber fool you. Five was a good game. It had <v Speaker 2>awful AI, so it was bad to play on your own, <v Speaker 2>but as a co op game, five rules six different conversation, Yes, <v Speaker 2>because it's a it's an okay game. It's not a <v Speaker 2>resident evil game in any way, shape or form. It's <v Speaker 2>an action game. But as an action game, it's like <v Speaker 2>fine enough. But those aren't necessarily the games and really <v Speaker 2>need remakes. It's the ones that people want to see <v Speaker 2>be good and do well and be saved from the <v Speaker 2>tech of the time and mistakes that they made with it. <v Speaker 2>And so Code Ronka and Zero had some interesting ideas, <v Speaker 2>and so bringing back Code Ronca as yeah, like, like <v Speaker 2>you said, this big budget game that like could you know, <v Speaker 2>be scary, be spooky, like the residual to remake and <v Speaker 2>everything like that to smooth over all the rough issues <v Speaker 2>and everything like that. They could make that game really cool, <v Speaker 2>whereas like you can only do so much saving of <v Speaker 2>some of those newer games, yeah, weren't good like resuble six, <v Speaker 2>Like it's kind of just like what's sunk cost fallacy. <v Speaker 2>I guess at this point of like, well six is six, <v Speaker 2>we're just gonna whatever. <v Speaker 1>I think they do this, this full remake treatment to <v Speaker 1>five and six eventually just it. <v Speaker 3>Would have to be like a last resort thing. <v Speaker 2>I think what Mike said the our day of that <v Speaker 2>like one should come first as like another. <v Speaker 3>Yes, I agree with that, yeah. <v Speaker 1>Yep, yeah, but but like at some point and it's <v Speaker 1>the you know, the problem with that is like five <v Speaker 1>needs reworking of its presentation, like just the way that <v Speaker 1>they you know, they don't want to do the controversy <v Speaker 1>all over again, so they will make some changes to <v Speaker 1>that stuff. And but I I I think then that <v Speaker 1>welcomes a full on rethinking of what that game is <v Speaker 1>and that should lead them into six. But that's way <v Speaker 1>down the line. That is not something you need to <v Speaker 1>be concerned about right now. I'm with you that that <v Speaker 1>those are games that people can play right now without <v Speaker 1>much trouble and code Veronica get that updated first, that <v Speaker 1>is clearly the priority. Even zero was the priority because <v Speaker 1>that's a game where you can make that good. Now <v Speaker 1>you just take do what you did to to Resident <v Speaker 1>Evil two or in three and just but actually like <v Speaker 1>make it play more like Resident Evil two and all <v Speaker 1>this stuff, improve the piecing, all that. Yeah, there's a <v Speaker 1>lot they can do there. So those are the right <v Speaker 1>games to do first, And I just think Reside Evil <v Speaker 1>continues to be in a really good spot with the <v Speaker 1>stuff where and in the meantime you can look forward <v Speaker 1>to the mainline games still happening over here. To distract <v Speaker 1>you if the most recent remake wasn't your speed, like <v Speaker 1>what happened with Reside Evil three, well, Resident Evil four <v Speaker 1>it came not too long after that that was great, <v Speaker 1>and then a Village was something that a lot of <v Speaker 1>people liked. So yeah, I'm happy. <v Speaker 3>Doing a great job with the series in general. <v Speaker 1>Yep. Now, on the other hand, Capcom has not been <v Speaker 1>satisfied with us Monster Hunt Munster, Monster Hunter Wild sales <v Speaker 1>that which fell short of our expectations, according to the company. <v Speaker 1>This is from Marcus Person at Game Reactor. You know <v Speaker 1>that phrase. Despite strong reviews, Capcom's latest entry in the <v Speaker 1>Monster Hunter series hasn't performed as well as the publisher <v Speaker 1>had hoped At launched, the game was a massive success, <v Speaker 1>breaking records and selling ten million copies within its first <v Speaker 1>three months, but since then the momentum has slowed significantly. <v Speaker 1>According to Capcom's most recently recent quarterly report, Monster Hunter <v Speaker 1>wild sold just four hundred and seventy seven thousand copies <v Speaker 1>during the last quarter. The last three months, well, the <v Speaker 1>game has reached an impressive ten point eight million, and <v Speaker 1>it's in total. The slowdown in recent months has left <v Speaker 1>the company concerned. They said, sales of Monster Hunter Wilds <v Speaker 1>during the first quarter fell short of our initial expectations. <v Speaker 1>Now it's like we've seen some numbers elsewhere seawn that <v Speaker 1>showed like, for at least some period in terms of <v Speaker 1>unit sales, a Monster Hunter Rise was actually out selling <v Speaker 1>Wilds for at least a couple months there, all right, <v Speaker 1>And that's right, And that's I think that's probably what <v Speaker 1>has them spooked of like, oh, people are so off <v Speaker 1>of Wilds that they are going to other Monster Hunter <v Speaker 1>games instead, and that's not a good sign for when <v Speaker 1>we want to sell them more DLC or get them <v Speaker 1>excited about the next Monster Hunter game. We could be <v Speaker 1>paying for this one in the next game is are <v Speaker 1>things really as bad as they sound for this game? Sean? <v Speaker 1>I every time it comes up, chats just like that <v Speaker 1>game's trash, and yeah, well I liked what I played, <v Speaker 1>but I was never a Monster Hunter guy, so I <v Speaker 1>was just like, this seems okay, but I can tell <v Speaker 1>it's not as deep as it was before. <v Speaker 2>I feel like we've talked a couple of times on <v Speaker 2>this episode about the airnet overreacting to things, but definitely <v Speaker 2>this is I think in contrast to why I literally <v Speaker 2>just said about, yeah, they're doing everything right with the <v Speaker 2>Resident Evil, they did something wrong with Moss Hunter, and <v Speaker 2>I think I tried to express that as best as <v Speaker 2>I could when we like were talking about and reviewing <v Speaker 2>and stuff earlier in the year. <v Speaker 3>Jesus, that was earlier this year. <v Speaker 1>And then that's bananas action just messed up. <v Speaker 3>Dude. <v Speaker 2>Okay, well it's just him mean right now, but they <v Speaker 2>they took it. We talked about standing off rough edges <v Speaker 2>earlier in the show, and they did that too much <v Speaker 2>with Monster Hunter. I think the sales I was trying <v Speaker 2>to like look at the sales numbers and be like, well, <v Speaker 2>why aren't they upset here? <v Speaker 1>Oh? <v Speaker 2>Because sales dropped off a cliff, and I think the <v Speaker 2>numbers do reflect this, this theory that I have. Everyone <v Speaker 2>was excited for Wilds because Monster Hunter was in such <v Speaker 2>a good spot. Everyone moved a world rise was really good. <v Speaker 2>They were doing everything right, seemingly. And then Wild's come <v Speaker 2>out and it's not the Monster Hunter game that most <v Speaker 2>people want, even ignoring like the fact that runs like <v Speaker 2>but it runs very poorly. <v Speaker 1>Maybe it's just that that's the most common complaint in <v Speaker 1>chat right now, is the performance for sure? <v Speaker 2>Maybe it's just stuck with empty framework for us wants <v Speaker 2>to have ori E engine. That's a bit of a <v Speaker 2>different discussion, I suppose. But even then, the fact that <v Speaker 2>they did streamline Monster Hunters so much, they took away <v Speaker 2>the sicko shit, and that's what people want. <v Speaker 3>They master Hunter was growing. <v Speaker 2>Without standing off rough edges. They just made things like <v Speaker 2>like I was saying earlier, with like control inputs and <v Speaker 2>methods and like streamlining multiplayer and stuff like that. They <v Speaker 2>were making that stuff better so people could get to <v Speaker 2>the sicko stuff eventually and learn the game. It's what <v Speaker 2>people liked about Monster Hunter. It's what people like about <v Speaker 2>the Soul's games. They like learning these games that are <v Speaker 2>a bit difficult early on, but you get used to <v Speaker 2>it and you learn how to improve. And especially with <v Speaker 2>Monster Hunter being a thing you can do with your friends, <v Speaker 2>people were letting their friends know about it. It's how <v Speaker 2>games like say Foul Fantasy fourteen get huge. It's because <v Speaker 2>your friend who loves it tells you this stuff is <v Speaker 2>sick and they're willing to guide you through it until <v Speaker 2>you get up to their level. And I think we're <v Speaker 2>seeing here that word of mouth is hurting this game. <v Speaker 2>Or people buy it because they're a fan of the series, <v Speaker 2>or they're really looking forward to it, play it and <v Speaker 2>they're you know, they'll be someone like me or like <v Speaker 2>I know Christian feels the same way a lot too <v Speaker 2>when we've talked about with him. I'm just like, man, <v Speaker 2>they took away some of the stuff we love. This <v Speaker 2>isn't really Monster Hunter anymore. It feels kind of like <v Speaker 2>a different thing. And that's a bummer, man. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I mean the monster The one thing I <v Speaker 1>know about Monster Hunter is it has this community of <v Speaker 1>people who talk to each other to like get other <v Speaker 1>people into the game, and with a guidgen Hunter or whatever. <v Speaker 1>Is that the guy that like it does like really <v Speaker 1>in depth tutorials and has done it for every one <v Speaker 1>of these games, for all the weapons for years and <v Speaker 1>years and years, and I think people like for as <v Speaker 1>intimidating as that sounds, there is a gravity, a gravity <v Speaker 1>that builds up when there are so many people on <v Speaker 1>the other side of that intimidation wall being like it's <v Speaker 1>so fun over here, like and we're gonna help you, <v Speaker 1>like you said, like we're gonna we're gonna bring you in, <v Speaker 1>We're gonna teach you all this stuff because we want <v Speaker 1>you to play with us. And it's like that sounds <v Speaker 1>like a bad experience, but I think we've discovered, at <v Speaker 1>least for some games, for some genres, it is the experience, <v Speaker 1>Like it is the thing that makes these things feel <v Speaker 1>special in the end. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, they didn't sell ten million off of what Monster <v Speaker 2>Hunter Wilds actually is. They sold ten million off of <v Speaker 2>what the series had become of. Hi thecomepoint, Yeah, I <v Speaker 2>think that's why we see the drop off is because <v Speaker 2>because yeah, it isn't that experience that you get to <v Speaker 2>share with your friends in that way that I Yeah, I. <v Speaker 3>It's weird because usually bad word of. <v Speaker 2>Mouth, I think, especially on the Internet, doesn't actually hurt <v Speaker 2>sales numbers of a game that much. But when it is, <v Speaker 2>like like you just mentioned, so community focused, that's all <v Speaker 2>the game kind of has, and so I think, yeah, <v Speaker 2>that's that's why they see the sales metrics just absolutely <v Speaker 2>plummet there, which is very unfortunate. I hope, I hope <v Speaker 2>they can write the ship on this one, because there's <v Speaker 2>there's a good game underneath. It's just all that little <v Speaker 2>all the little issues that has the performance issues, you know, <v Speaker 2>like having it be so story focused before you can <v Speaker 2>get to the really cool hunts and stuff like that. <v Speaker 2>They just need to like figure some of that stuff out. <v Speaker 2>Maybe the inevitable expansion will fix some of that stuff. <v Speaker 3>I don't know. <v Speaker 1>I bet that that is like internally what they're like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>we can, let's make some fixes. Now, make some improvements <v Speaker 1>if we can, but we should probably just put all <v Speaker 1>of our focus on getting the expansion correct because people <v Speaker 1>will want it to be better. At that point, maybe <v Speaker 1>they'll give us another chance, and that'll be the moment <v Speaker 1>that we can really hit home that this is the <v Speaker 1>Monster Hunter you were hoping it would be, really the <v Speaker 1>realistic thing there is probably going to be the next <v Speaker 1>game is where they do a lot of the corrections <v Speaker 1>from what they've done here. So yeah, it might be <v Speaker 1>a little bit of a long wait. Yeah, last story <v Speaker 1>revived publisher Acclaim is teasing something for next week. This <v Speaker 1>is from Ali Reynolds and Nintendo Life. Sean, Like, you <v Speaker 1>played N sixty four and stuff. A Claim was a <v Speaker 1>big publisher on N sixty four. Do you have any <v Speaker 1>any affinity for a Claim? <v Speaker 3>Hold on, I am googling something. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, uh, I don't, Yeah, I get it. While you're <v Speaker 1>doing I was like. <v Speaker 3>I was like, did they publish Superman sixty four? <v Speaker 1>Because that's that feels like that was that was Titus <v Speaker 1>or Titois or whatever that is. <v Speaker 2>Yes, whatever, No, I know I remember that Acclaim was <v Speaker 2>very much just the will put anything out. They're like, <v Speaker 2>you know, THQ will put anything out. <v Speaker 3>Man. <v Speaker 1>The number of games that I rented for the N <v Speaker 1>sixty four that started up with the Acclaim logo was <v Speaker 1>quite It was a huge percentage of those games. And <v Speaker 1>I so I do have a little bit of an <v Speaker 1>affinity for a Claim. But they're saying, okay, they are <v Speaker 1>teasing something for next week. I don't think we really know, <v Speaker 1>let me read the story and then we'll try to <v Speaker 1>figure out what it could possibly be. Because I am stumped, Sean. <v Speaker 1>Publisher Acclaim, which was revived earlier this year after more <v Speaker 1>than two decades of dormancy, is teasing some sort of <v Speaker 1>announcement for next week. It's tough to know what exactly <v Speaker 1>this entails at this stage, and the only clue within <v Speaker 1>the above tease there's a video is a very quick <v Speaker 1>cut to show some sort of digital digital demonic face <v Speaker 1>with power symbols surrounding it. We've screenshotted it. They put <v Speaker 1>it up on their website over at Nintendo Life. Within <v Speaker 1>its PR release, a Claim promises big things to come, <v Speaker 1>and it's supposedly hard at work on its missions, missions <v Speaker 1>to bring players unforgettable, lasting experiences that will keep them <v Speaker 1>coming back for more. Sounds intriguing at least, and that's <v Speaker 1>the story again, but we just we don't know what <v Speaker 1>this is now. The reason that this is especially stumping <v Speaker 1>for me, Sean is the games that it could be <v Speaker 1>that come to mind when I think of a Claim <v Speaker 1>to rock, someone else's already making that, and it claims <v Speaker 1>not involved. That's over at Saber interactive. There is a <v Speaker 1>new Tarak game. There's a shadow Man, I guess, but <v Speaker 1>shadow Man is also it has already come back, at <v Speaker 1>least in terms of a re release from Night Dive. <v Speaker 1>I guess Extreme G no one is really calling for <v Speaker 1>I like Extreme G. No one is asking for Extreme <v Speaker 1>G to come back. Aggressive Inline No, no way. Rollerblading <v Speaker 1>is a joke now, even though I love rollerblading, Aggressive <v Speaker 1>inline fucks it does. It's a good game. <v Speaker 3>It does. <v Speaker 1>Fuck, that's right now. Then there's the licensed properties, and <v Speaker 1>that's a whole there's no way that they're right. I <v Speaker 1>mean maybe there is, but that's not something that people <v Speaker 1>are gonna get excited about. <v Speaker 3>Possible. Yeah, looking at this demonic face that was mentioned, Yes, <v Speaker 3>what do you think? Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, the trailer is just like a panning shot of <v Speaker 2>CRTs that I'll say, no signal and then yeah, that <v Speaker 2>demonic face pops up. That as all like Neon and stuff. <v Speaker 2>Maybe I don't know, maybe because has the revived acclaim <v Speaker 2>done anything yet? <v Speaker 3>I don't think so. <v Speaker 2>I just remember what what someone says something about Jeff <v Speaker 2>Jared and stuff. I'm like, wait, what is happening with <v Speaker 2>the claim? I don't remember exactly what the story has <v Speaker 2>been so far. Uh, maybe they're just announcing that they're <v Speaker 2>coming back as an indie publisher and that's what we're <v Speaker 2>looking at here, And. <v Speaker 1>I mean they yeah, they did confirm that they were <v Speaker 1>back earlier this year though, So yeah, maybe, yeah, maybe <v Speaker 1>that's what it is. You're right, Maybe they're finding games <v Speaker 1>and bringing other stuff, other people's stuff to the forefront, <v Speaker 1>and that they're just trying to build up hype for that. <v Speaker 1>So it's not necessarily something that a Claim has done <v Speaker 1>before coming back that that it almost certainly has to <v Speaker 1>be that, right, because I just can't see anything else <v Speaker 1>because you. <v Speaker 2>Look at yeah, you look at other stuff like say <v Speaker 2>Atari coming back, and Atari, I actually think, well, we'll <v Speaker 2>see if it pays off in the long run. I <v Speaker 2>thought it was pretty smart about basically coming back as <v Speaker 2>like investing in things that are working because they had <v Speaker 2>money still apparently with. <v Speaker 1>It with the with the common theme of of kind <v Speaker 1>of nostalgic fort retro stuff. <v Speaker 2>Yes, yeah, exactly. So maybe they're just trying to do <v Speaker 2>the same thing here with the Acclaim brand. <v Speaker 1>I don't know, yeah, probably, I mean there's a cryptic <v Speaker 1>people still want to keep starting up game publishers. It <v Speaker 1>is a lucrative business if you can make it work. <v Speaker 1>It doesn't always work, but people want to do this, <v Speaker 1>So maybe that's this is them just trying to trade. <v Speaker 1>It's definitely them trying to trade on a name that <v Speaker 1>maybe had something at one point. I hesitate to even <v Speaker 1>say Cachet it had said something, but I we're talking <v Speaker 1>about it, so I guess that's it was maybe worth <v Speaker 1>something to them if they had to pay to bring <v Speaker 1>it back. Is that Jeff Jarrett the wrestler involved? But <v Speaker 1>maybe yes, maybe. <v Speaker 2>That's why that's why I was bringing up He's like, yeah, <v Speaker 2>he's on the board or something. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, maybe maybe they do some. <v Speaker 2>It was like the one time Dan was interested in <v Speaker 2>the news on the BombCast, Remember was when you brought <v Speaker 2>that up. <v Speaker 5>Man. <v Speaker 1>Okay, all right, well let's let's see. We'll find out <v Speaker 1>next week. We'll definitely talk about it on Game mess mornings. Okay, <v Speaker 1>that is going to do it for the headlines. Let's <v Speaker 1>talk about Let's see, we got to wrap up the <v Speaker 1>pole question from yesterday. So let's go in and grab <v Speaker 1>that real quick poll question from yesterday. The results are in. <v Speaker 1>Let me refresh that. Did we do the we actually <v Speaker 1>put the post up the Paul yesterda from yesterday. Jam, <v Speaker 1>maybe we didn't. We double check here. Thursday's question was <v Speaker 1>if not, we'll post that today and we'll get the <v Speaker 1>answer on Monday. Let's see question for you. Uh, I thought, yes, <v Speaker 1>Where do you want to do? I thought I thought <v Speaker 1>we did. I don't see it posted. We definitely talked <v Speaker 1>about it. Where do you want to go in the <v Speaker 1>next horizon Japan or somewhere else. We'll get that posted <v Speaker 1>up and we'll get the results next week in the meantime. Yes, <v Speaker 1>for it's the horizon. That's a good point. We should <v Speaker 1>definitely clarify that. Although hey maybe yeah, why not? <v Speaker 3>Yeah, white lady in Japan? Why not? <v Speaker 1>Why not? It could be yeah, it could bet Janson. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>all right, So we'll get that wrapped up next week. <v Speaker 1>We will get to the bomb twelve here to wrap <v Speaker 1>up this week here in a second. Before we do that, <v Speaker 1>we should talk about what you can expect from us <v Speaker 1>for the rest of the day. Upf is happening at <v Speaker 1>three pm Eastern time, that's noon Pacific. We're going to <v Speaker 1>be doing Bubbz Robo. So I'll be playing Bubbz three <v Speaker 1>D refurbished. Dan will be playing Chibi Robo, which is <v Speaker 1>just hit Nintendo Switch Online. So he tried it out <v Speaker 1>a little bit. He's got up and running looking forward <v Speaker 1>to that. I also might maybe we'll stream something before that. <v Speaker 1>We'll see. I've got to take care of some other things, <v Speaker 1>but maybe pick up one of these other games we've <v Speaker 1>been talking about and play that on the SAE because <v Speaker 1>we got some time before three pm. All right, I <v Speaker 1>think with that out of the way, what we'll do <v Speaker 1>is the Bomb twelve. Everybody, it's that time of the week. <v Speaker 1>These are the twelve games that matter to people who <v Speaker 1>have really been playing video games. Let me get the <v Speaker 1>most updated list up here for everybody. This is for <v Speaker 1>the week of August eighteenth. Let's start here at number twelve. <v Speaker 1>Mafia the Old Country. That is, it's a second week <v Speaker 1>on the It dropped a little bit. That's probably right <v Speaker 1>for this game that seems to have a tepid response <v Speaker 1>from people. It's fine for what it is, but because <v Speaker 1>it's like trying to be like a slightly you know, <v Speaker 1>slight more slight of a game, I think people were <v Speaker 1>just like, yeah, cool, I'm glad that's happening, or it's <v Speaker 1>an easy one to ignore. Everyone around here seems like <v Speaker 1>very happy to ignore it. I'm happy with what I played, <v Speaker 1>but I don't know if I'm gonna play anymore of it. Sean, <v Speaker 1>how about you? <v Speaker 2>I just never really had any interest in from the Dick. No, <v Speaker 2>I didn't have any interest in the older Mafia games. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, even this, like switching genres a little bit, <v Speaker 2>did nothing for me. <v Speaker 1>Number eleven is Merge Maestro, still hanging out real strong. <v Speaker 1>At the bottom half of the list that has been <v Speaker 1>doing so for like three weeks now. Ninja Guide and <v Speaker 1>Rage Bound is still on here. Number ten ye beat <v Speaker 1>that game, really happy with it. Number nine street Fighter six. <v Speaker 1>Although I did put this list together very late yesterday, <v Speaker 1>a bunch of more Street Fighters six of folks came in, <v Speaker 1>so maybe that should be higher. Maybe next week we'll <v Speaker 1>be able to reflect that. Number eight is UFO fifty. <v Speaker 1>Number seven is World of Warcraft that popped off hard <v Speaker 1>this week, and I'm wondering if that's the Midnight the <v Speaker 1>expansion has people excited. It's got to be that, right, <v Speaker 1>so I you know, if that's all you know, with <v Speaker 1>just the announcement of that getting people excited to go <v Speaker 1>back to World of Warcraft. I bet that's going to <v Speaker 1>shoot up the charts once Midnight is actually out. Number <v Speaker 1>sixty is yeah, launched, Switch was it? It launched everywhere <v Speaker 1>else except for Steam. It had just been on Steam. <v Speaker 1>It was everywhere else. Although you're right to point out <v Speaker 1>the Switch, that's definitely the version, the version that is <v Speaker 1>having the biggest impact, absolutely all right. The top half <v Speaker 1>of the chart, Number six Uma Musume pretty Derby the <v Speaker 1>horse girls run strong and they run wild and free <v Speaker 1>on this chart. Number five is Battlefield six. Despite the <v Speaker 1>beta being over, a lot of people were submitting that <v Speaker 1>game over the weekend, and yeah, it's still very high <v Speaker 1>on this trait. It was in the top three last week. <v Speaker 1>So even still being in the top five after the <v Speaker 1>beta's over, impressed. Number four Death Stranding two, which does <v Speaker 1>mean there is a new game in the top three, <v Speaker 1>and that Sword of the Sea. The sort of the <v Speaker 1>c is that new one from Giant Squid. I think <v Speaker 1>it's the name of the studio. One of the people <v Speaker 1>that worked on Journey is in charge of that that studio, <v Speaker 1>And this is a very Journey like game. I started <v Speaker 1>it last night, Sean, I'm I'm into it. It's got <v Speaker 1>a really good feeling of riding that sort around like <v Speaker 1>a snowboard or a surfboard. I was just kind of <v Speaker 1>really just going over hills, holding the A button to <v Speaker 1>prime my jump and letting go and just feeling how <v Speaker 1>good that felt. Was really nice. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, ryanrona Sword is very good. Idea a lot last year, <v Speaker 2>jeff In Metafour refont Asia. <v Speaker 1>But I don't know. Is that a game number two <v Speaker 1>Clare Obscure Expedition thirty three. That's my game of the week, everybody, <v Speaker 1>That's what the one I voted for. Yeah, that's uh, <v Speaker 1>of course, just a game that seems to have momentum <v Speaker 1>bursting from its seams because people are constantly checking out. <v Speaker 1>I hear people talking about, hey, beat it, and because <v Speaker 1>of the updates, I want to go back to it <v Speaker 1>and try some other things that I didn't do before. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, I think that that's a game that people <v Speaker 1>are just gonna be playing throughout the rest of the year. <v Speaker 1>I don't think that it drops off the Bomb twelve <v Speaker 1>until sometime in twenty twenty six. Number one Donkey Kong Bonanza. <v Speaker 1>It has been number one every week that we've done <v Speaker 1>the Bomb twelve, including this one. Maybe drops off next <v Speaker 1>week because of middle gear. Maybe we'll see there's no <v Speaker 1>guarantees zoom. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, I dropped from first to second or something <v Speaker 3>like that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, at the very least, though, I expect that to <v Speaker 1>be hanging around on the charts for quite some time. <v Speaker 3>At a game. I did the rehearsals, by the way, <v Speaker 3>I did all. <v Speaker 1>The okay, yeah, right though, that's good stuff, right, yeah, <v Speaker 1>very fun. <v Speaker 3>Definitely more of what I wanted on that game. <v Speaker 1>All right, And that's the Bomb twelve. We'll have another <v Speaker 1>one next Friday. If you want to submit your game, <v Speaker 1>you want to have your say on the Bomb twelve, <v Speaker 1>go to giant bomb dot com. The blog post for <v Speaker 1>this Bomb twelve is up right now. At the bottom <v Speaker 1>you'll find a link to a form where you could <v Speaker 1>submit your game, so go check that out. Also post <v Speaker 1>updates reminders throughout the week on my Blue Sky or <v Speaker 1>maybe on the Giant Bombs Blue Sky. We'll see, all right. <v Speaker 1>So with that out of the way, let's wrap the <v Speaker 1>show up. Sean, thank you so much for hanging out <v Speaker 1>with me today and talking about video games. Man, I <v Speaker 1>really appreciate it. <v Speaker 3>So it's fun time. <v Speaker 1>Jeff, Thank you Jan for producing. Thank you everybody for <v Speaker 1>watching and listening. You are the best audience in gaming. <v Speaker 1>Until next time, have a good one, take care of <v Speaker 1>yourself and goodbye.
