00:00:00 Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. It's our two want to Meet Friday gangs all here. Morale is high fritzy with a retro DP show hat on that's old, that's old, old. 00:00:14 Speaker 2: School Danpatrick dot com on the back. 00:00:17 Speaker 3: It matches my little steak sweatshirts. I wanted to go a little red, pink white. 00:00:20 Speaker 4: I don't know, you're just like me. You don't throw away anything. 00:00:23 Speaker 3: I don't throw away anything. 00:00:24 Speaker 5: That's an Attic era hat. That is what it is that goes back to the Attic. 00:00:28 Speaker 6: And today is the seven year anniversary of when we moved out of the Old Man Cave and so many great memories. You look back on how much space we didn't have. Now it's an embarrassment of riches. But I thought it was good for the show because you couldn't really go anywhere hide cameras were on. You remember, we were doing Meet Fridays out on a little like a little grill or I don't even know what it was. 00:00:56 Speaker 7: It was a little grill and it was at the back area that was a walk downstairs, yeah, emergency exit, and it was a treacherous. 00:01:05 Speaker 6: But somehow we put together Meet Fridays, and it brought us to where we are meet Friday today. Thanks to Rectech, they sent us recipes. So we have elk bacon sliders, tuna, carpaccio, filet mignon, Oscar style, pesto, crusted salmon, russells sprouts, and glazed carrots. Who has it better than we do? 00:01:29 Speaker 2: Nobody. 00:01:31 Speaker 4: I don't know Oscar style. I'm sure I've had Oscar style, but I don't know the definition. 00:01:35 Speaker 7: Paulie, of course I have that on my screen. Dan Vial Oscar is a decadent dish. It's usually veal cutlets, but now it's on steak. It's a rich sauce with crab meat, asparagus and either Bernet's or hollandaise. It goes back to King Oscar the second. I didn't see the first one, so I was kind of lost on the second one of Sweden, King Oscar the second. 00:01:56 Speaker 4: Now are the Oscars named after King Oscar? We'll check that. It's a good question. Yeah, I'm not sure. 00:02:02 Speaker 6: By the way, I watched the movie last night twenty eight years now, I'm not a zombie apocalypse guy. Twenty eight years later, I think, yeah, is it twenty eight years. Maybe I missed the later part of it. That's not your thing, not at all. But my wife and two of my daughters were going, hey, we're going to watch a movie and I go, okay, what do you got And they go, okay, just say that you'll watch a little bit of it. I go, what are we watching? They said, it's Zombie Apocalypse and I no, Ray Fines is crazy. Ray Final is unbelievable. Yeah, he didn't get nominated. I don't think he got nominated. 00:02:36 Speaker 5: I don't know that zombie movies do a lot, do they do? They typically get. 00:02:40 Speaker 4: No But his acting is unbelievable. 00:02:42 Speaker 5: He was phenomenal in that unbelievable character. 00:02:44 Speaker 6: Yeah, just watch the final scene where he has to convince the zombies that he is Satan, and it is. I mean, it's wild. It's not my kind of movie. But you know, my daughter and my wife are so into Zombie Apocalypse. Like if they could meet Brad Pitt, they would They would only bring up World War Z. 00:03:08 Speaker 4: That's all they They love those movies and I'm not into them at all. Yeah. 00:03:12 Speaker 5: See, that's like twenty eight years Later is in a series of films. It's one of those where It started with twenty eight days later and a dude, gosh, what is his name? I'm blanking on his name now, a famous actor. Anyway, he goes into the hospital I think he's in a coma or something like that, and he wakes up twenty eight days after that happens. Or he goes in for surgery maybe something like that, and he wakes up. There's while he's under anesthesia, or he's in a coma, I forget which it is. A zombie like apocalypse happened. And he wakes up twenty eight days after, and the whole world has changed, and he's like, what the hell's going on? He has no idea what happened? So you have twenty eight days later. This is obviously twenty eight years later. The whole world is even crazier, but Ray finds, Yeah, who that's acting, but it's gory. They love you know that zombie apocalypse? 00:04:03 Speaker 4: Yes, and that's based on a true story. 00:04:05 Speaker 5: Twenty eight Yeah, that really happened, yep, I believe it started in Atlanta. I'm not mistaken, pretty. 00:04:16 Speaker 4: Numero anyone. Twenty eight three later, the Falcons are like. 00:04:22 Speaker 7: Would you rather be attacked by zombies. 00:04:25 Speaker 4: Or the Patriots. 00:04:26 Speaker 6: Yeah, I'd rather be attacked by zombies, not the Patriots, all right, eight seven to seven three DP show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle a TP show. I saw this story where the Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen. He was removed from the starting lineup last night against the Twins because he slept through his alarm. He didn't wake up, and he said, I don't have an excuse. It sucks, it happens. I let my teammates down. But it was a home game, right, I think he got in in the ninth inning, but he did. He's twenty two years of age. Was he living at home with his parents, but they're trying to get a hold of him when they're calling the house and uh, he doesn't answer. So he ended up uh not starting in that game. Yes, I read more about this. He did set the alarm. He didn't blame his alarm for not going off, which is a classic move. He said, he just slept through it. Wouldn't it be easier on the road because wake up, call your alarm. There's probably like a security guy with the team that would. 00:05:40 Speaker 4: Knock on the door. Yes, but this was a home game. Yeah, yes, and nothing against Carter Jensen. 00:05:46 Speaker 3: I'm sure he's a fine ballplayer. But if that was Georgia Brett or something back to, I think they're gonna wink at him shun up a little late to the ballpark. 00:05:52 Speaker 4: I'm just guessing. I'm gonna guess somebody's gonna drive over there. 00:05:54 Speaker 3: And yeah, I don't be a nudge, George, You're still going to play third base. 00:05:57 Speaker 4: Okay, does he is? He's gonna be known as sleepy Jensen? Good stick? Does he get a nickname off of this sleepy Jensen? Uh? Snooze Jensen? Yeah. 00:06:11 Speaker 6: Baseball players used to always have nicknames, you know, Dave oil Can Boyd and who was it Rick the Rooster Burlson. 00:06:20 Speaker 4: You know when they had great nicknames. Call him drowsy or something like that of the dopey. 00:06:28 Speaker 5: Yes see, this one's actually from social media, based off of what Todd was saying before, but making a poll question out of nicknames. You hate being called by people who don't know you, m like like, uh, Todd didn't like being called shorty or you know, big man sir, something like that, like all right, hey there guy, call me guy. 00:06:47 Speaker 4: What the heck man? 00:06:50 Speaker 6: Well, what is short for a guy? What's officially is five to seven The cutoff to you're either if you're five seven under shorter than you're short five. 00:07:02 Speaker 4: Seven are below? 00:07:03 Speaker 5: Is would I would would be considered short, But I don't know that five eight is you're on what the taller side of short than. 00:07:11 Speaker 6: I if okay, if Jombo shrimp the over under at five seven and a half, because it's always got to be a half there, Paul, you got the average? 00:07:21 Speaker 4: Yeah, of course. 00:07:22 Speaker 7: The CDC says just over five feet nine inches is the average American male in twenty twenty five. 00:07:30 Speaker 4: Are you short if you're under five to nine like in America? 00:07:34 Speaker 7: Yes, but the worldwide average is five to seven and a half, so we are a little taller than the average country. 00:07:39 Speaker 6: Eat it others, But Todd, are you considered short by our standard? 00:07:44 Speaker 3: I'm considered short by the photographer album for five ninety three quarters five ten right now based on the last measurement at the American Physician's office. 00:07:51 Speaker 4: I think you're just average. I think you'd be just listed as average. 00:07:56 Speaker 3: In general and everything about me or just what talking about my taking a shot? 00:07:59 Speaker 4: No, no, I'm saying you would be listed as an average. 00:08:03 Speaker 3: But I'm very unique and special in a lot of other ways. 00:08:06 Speaker 4: You are, Ton. It's not about anything else I get sent to, yes Seaton. 00:08:10 Speaker 5: Maybe she was saying not shorty, but like shorty, like s h A W T y, like an affectionate term for a love interest, not like not like hey, short guy, but more like what's up shorty? 00:08:24 Speaker 4: If that's no girl? 00:08:26 Speaker 5: She said, it's usually used for women, but I mean maybe in this context it's twenty twenty six. 00:08:31 Speaker 8: No. 00:08:31 Speaker 6: The photographer during picture day yesterday was saying, hey, you're not as tall as the other people. Hey, shorty, you come up in the front, are you sure? 00:08:41 Speaker 4: Yes? 00:08:41 Speaker 3: I think there was a hand gesture involved too, like you just gotta did like, you know, showing the height thing with the hand. 00:08:46 Speaker 5: Yes, hey you know she had personality. Yeah, you used to take that as you want. I have thought of it as a romantic cat I appreciate. 00:08:56 Speaker 3: I wish it was like that, but I got the vibe of like, yours short than everyone, so you should. 00:09:01 Speaker 4: Stand here, we get on the knee, she's shorty. 00:09:03 Speaker 3: I don't think it was up for debate at all. Actually that you did a little up the hand. Most of it like you're this height and the. 00:09:08 Speaker 6: Age seven seven to three DP show and gets phone calls coming up. Mad Dog Russo will join us as well. Phil Nicholson will not be in the Masters. He's dealing with a family issue. Tiger, we know, will not be going to the Masters. And that video, the arrest video, came out yesterday and it's messy. 00:09:29 Speaker 4: There's a lot of things going on in there. 00:09:30 Speaker 6: At one point somebody asked Tiger if he's going to the Masters, and I think he says, well, that's up to you, the arresting officers. He also leaves for a little while he's on his phone and comes back and says he just spoke to the President, which I'm gonna guess he probably did call. And I think President Trump tweeted that out. 00:09:53 Speaker 5: That's kind of a lame move for him, though, even in the middle of the Tui name dropping like that, that's kind of lamee Yes, Dodd. 00:10:00 Speaker 2: That was so weak. What are they supposed to say, you were on the phone. 00:10:02 Speaker 4: With the president. You're free to go. 00:10:03 Speaker 5: Sorry, Tiger, here what happens, We'll help you flip your car back over. 00:10:06 Speaker 4: You can get out of here. You have more important things to do and it was not a mistake. Here's your pills. I don't know what you're supposed to do with that. 00:10:11 Speaker 5: Such a so what you wool he was on the phone with don't care any details on Iran, No. 00:10:14 Speaker 6: Okay, but it's it's wild. At one point they asked Tiger to take all of his sunglasses, and that's when they go, oh boy, it's ever good. 00:10:26 Speaker 5: Tiger's on one knee sitting there and he's talking to them, and you just air like, hey, you might if I just take these off real quick, and they pull the glasses off his head. Ooh, that's how good. 00:10:34 Speaker 6: Yeah, And then you know, he takes the pills out of his pocket, puts it in a bag, a baggie there. 00:10:42 Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, his. 00:10:44 Speaker 5: Like explanation for that. He's looking down at his phone. I know that there's pills. He didn't take the blood test, all that stuff, the urine test whatever. 00:10:52 Speaker 2: I mean. I know. 00:10:52 Speaker 5: Definitely, people drive and they're looking at their phones and you look up real quick and oh crap, somebody's right there and you try to swerve out of the way and clipped the end of it and flipped his cars a totally you know, believable story. I'm not saying that it makes sense or that that it's right, you know, but that's a very believable thing that people Some people are always looking at their phone while they're driving. 00:11:12 Speaker 6: Yes, but he was impaired and doing that and impaired. Yes, the bigger part of the and he was impaired. But I think I don't know, when's the last time Phil or Tiger and or Tiger weren't in the Masters. You got to go back, probably to the early nineties, maybe not. I was trying to think the last time we didn't have them either, one of them at the Masters? Yeah, Paul nineteen ninety four, ninety four, Wow, dang, yeah. 00:11:46 Speaker 5: End of an era. 00:11:47 Speaker 4: Huh Yeah, but it's weird. How here you go. 00:11:53 Speaker 6: I'm guessing these are the arresting officers asking him about the Masters, that we still put that instead of dealing with what is real right here? Then you're gonna say, are you you're still gonna go to the Masters? 00:12:07 Speaker 9: You know? 00:12:08 Speaker 6: That's the problem. It feels like, you know, you keep kicking the can down the road here. It's like, no, how about we just focus on this unless you're just trying to engage Tiger and have casual conversation, but it's like, hey, man, it was a close call. You're going to go to the Masters. And then he says, well, that's up to you, yes, Tom. 00:12:25 Speaker 3: And Tiger himself was so traumatized by what he did or what he could have done to other people, that he had them break the back of the window of his car so they can get his precious putter that he won a bunch of titles with that, to make sure they got that out of the truck. 00:12:35 Speaker 4: Yeah, he did. 00:12:36 Speaker 6: They said, is there anything you want out of the truck vehicle? And he said, get my sticks, get my clubs? 00:12:43 Speaker 4: All right? 00:12:44 Speaker 6: Uh sneak at a couple of phone calls here, Uh Peter in San Diego, Hi Pete, what's on your mind today? 00:12:52 Speaker 9: Good morning, gentlemen. 00:12:53 Speaker 2: Hi Dan. 00:12:54 Speaker 9: I just I've got a couple of things. I thought you were miscasts in the Happy Girl Fillmore two movie. I think they should have recreated the Bob Barker role and you could have had a brawl with a sandman on the golf course. That would have been hilarious. And then I also wanted to say that a couple of months ago, you guys were talking about underrated films, and you didn't mention the one that came to the top of my list. 00:13:20 Speaker 4: So can I. 00:13:21 Speaker 9: Get a stat of the day? 00:13:24 Speaker 4: All right, that's awesome. 00:13:39 Speaker 9: So I think that the unedited version of Blue Velvet with Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rosalini should be at the top of your list. 00:13:51 Speaker 4: Well, I like the movie. I didn't. 00:13:56 Speaker 6: I didn't see the unedited version, but liked like Dennis Hopp that was that was a bizarre movie, really bizarre. But Isabella Rossallini beautiful. But Dennis Hopper, he played Dennis Hopper, he played creepy really really well. 00:14:13 Speaker 4: Uh. Emmett in Connecticut, Hi, Emmett, what's on your mind? 00:14:18 Speaker 8: Hey? 00:14:19 Speaker 2: Dan? 00:14:19 Speaker 8: How are you good? Six two twenty and I have to apologize because my ears are still a little bit Deafenine from the Duke ucon game, did you say that. 00:14:38 Speaker 4: The U n C job? 00:14:39 Speaker 8: But Dan Hurley should go for the UNC job. 00:14:42 Speaker 4: Nope, nope, no, no, no, no no no. 00:14:46 Speaker 6: I said he could, like if North Carolina said to Dan Hurley, hey, do you want to come be our coach? You know he could he could do that in one phone call if he wanted it. I'm not saying he is or should any of that. So I this is where we kind of hear a little bit, and then all of a sudden, Dan Patrick said that, you know, Danny Hurley thinks North Carolina is better than a Connecticut not the case. 00:15:16 Speaker 4: Not the case. 00:15:17 Speaker 6: So so Emmett, I'm not I'm not saying anything other if North Carolina wanted Dan Hurley and they, you know, or he wanted them, he could make a call and he could make that happen. I'm not saying he's going to do it, should do it, and North Carolina is not a better job than you cutt Okay. 00:15:35 Speaker 8: I have another question for you though. Okay, I know you're a fan of hot dogs and up here in New Britain, we have the best hot dogs in the state and we'd like to bring some down for Meat Friday for you. 00:15:51 Speaker 6: Well, maybe give your information to Tyler and we appreciate that, Emmett, but I don't want that headline, you know, saying something about Dan Hurley leaving going to North Carolina. 00:16:02 Speaker 5: Yes, if this is another news organization, though sports news organization, you would say that in the morning, then they would send a reporter to the press conference later to ask about the reports of that happening, and then you would drive that content all day on that network. 00:16:16 Speaker 6: And if you look at what ESPN did that with Dan Orlomsky. 00:16:20 Speaker 4: Yeah, they do it all the time. It's they just, Hey, we created the news. 00:16:25 Speaker 6: Now let's send it down the rabbit hole where all of our shows are now going to talk about. 00:16:29 Speaker 5: That's eighteen straight hours we're going to be talking about a thing that we One of our guys commented. 00:16:33 Speaker 6: On and I have a source, use an NFL scout, and he said, I don't have a first round grade on Ty Simpson. He said, Now, that doesn't mean he won't go in the first round. He said, I don't have a first round grade because I asked him yesterday, because I said, look, is Orlovsky onto something? He goes, I don't have a first round grade on it. That's all I can tell you. Doesn't mean he can't be a first round pick, can't be a starter. I don't have a round grade on it. I said, Okay, all right, mad Dog Russo is going to join us up next. We'll take a break. We're back after this. 00:17:06 Speaker 1: Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. 00:17:16 Speaker 2: Hey it's me Rob Parker. 00:17:18 Speaker 10: Check out my weekly MLB podcast, Inside the Parker for twenty two minutes of piping hot baseball talk featuring the biggest names of newsmakers in the sport. Also, you'll see him on First Take with Steven A. Good to see your dog. We were talking, Danny. We were talking about collapses. Bleach Report has the top collapses of the twenty first century. Jean van Dervelt doesn't make it because that was nineteen ninety nine. It starts in two thousand and one. The Falcons Patriots number one, and then it was the Yankees and the Red Sox. But the Yankees collapse in the ALCS. Any problems with that the two biggest collapses. 00:18:30 Speaker 2: The only problem with the Yankees in Red Sox is that the Yankees beat the Red Sox the year before, you know, and they did it with heroic fashion with the home run by Boone after they were down five to two in the eighth. So it's hard to sit there and kill the Yankees. Eventually, the Red Sox we're going to beat them, But I understand it had a three zero lead. I got to put the Giants Angels O two, game six, three two, Giants five nothing, bottom seven. Well you gotta put that in there, don't you, Dinny. 00:19:02 Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Well the Rangers lost to the Cardinals in there too. 00:19:07 Speaker 2: You know. Too's one strike away twice, one strike away winning that championship twice. Yes, Now, I don't know how you feel about it when you win a World Series after you blew one. Does it make up for the fact that you choked on away? Texas has won Giants won three. Does that make up for the fact that you lost to O two and lost to the Cardinals. If you're a Rangers, then Atlanta has not won a Super Bowl since they blew the lead to the Patriots, So you got to put that out of the equation because if you're a sports fan, Okay, we lost to the Angels, but I won three World Series since takes a lot of the sting away. That's something you got to think about. 00:19:59 Speaker 6: Do you think do you think anything can surpass twenty eight to three in our lifetime? 00:20:05 Speaker 2: Well, Houston against Buffalo thirty five to three. Now it wasn't a super Bowl and it wasn't in this century, but that was a terrible loss. And that was also but yeah, you're right now, it was against Brady. But you know that's gonna be tricky one. I'm sure we can find one. I know, the Duke thing, and you got to put Duke in last year two, so they've had back to back, so you probably can hit Duke, not in this level. But that was terrible for Duke. But twenty eight three is twenty eight three. That's probably the worst one. You know, is there a golf one? 00:20:43 Speaker 6: Well Van Derveld would have been in there with the British Open, but that was nineteen ninety nine. 00:20:48 Speaker 2: How about Speif How about Speith at the Masters five stroke League? 00:20:51 Speaker 6: Yeah, going to the twelfth I think did he have a five stroke league going to the twelfth hole is the back nine. 00:20:58 Speaker 2: Now McElroy has since won. How about he's forty on a back nine that one. 00:21:03 Speaker 4: Year, Yeah, you could put that in there. 00:21:05 Speaker 2: And how about Norman or Norman was ninety six Norman against Faldo? 00:21:10 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I was there for that one. 00:21:13 Speaker 2: You at that? 00:21:14 Speaker 4: Yeah, that one won. 00:21:16 Speaker 6: And you know what, Rick Riley, to his credit going Saturday, I saw him after Saturday's round and I said, what do you think? And he said, Greg Norman always finds the banana peel. Yeah, And I never forgot that going into Sunday. And I've never been in a crowd that wasn't cheering for Faldo. They just felt terrible for Greg Norman. And it's weird because of Augusta. Those crowds, that's part of the ambiance that's as good, if not better than any other sporting event when somebody does something great. The crowd didn't know how to react with what unfolded on that back nine that day, and I. 00:21:57 Speaker 2: Think I think if it wasn't Foudo chasing, I think Norman could have figured it out. But you know, Foudo was very, you know, steel minded. He had won a couple of times already he knew how to handle it and make the guy lose the tournament instead of him trying to win it. So I think Foudrot allowed to do with it too. And I know Riley what a great story called Norman Mister Saturday Night, if I'm not mistaken, which is one of the great lines. 00:22:25 Speaker 6: Great lines talking to mad Dog Russa, I'm worried about the voice here, Dog. 00:22:29 Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, all of a sudden, i'd be all right, I got to you know, I had on yesterday who was a great spot who you've. 00:22:34 Speaker 4: Known him forever? Patrick Ewing. 00:22:36 Speaker 2: Yeah, it was very good. 00:22:37 Speaker 4: Yeah, I listen, Yeah, I listened, but he did good, Jinny. Yeah. 00:22:40 Speaker 6: And you know when he's so miscast or mislabeled, is he's really And I understand why Patrick is defensive. Everything that was said about him characterized what fans were doing, throwing bananas, you know, I mean there was so much and then you know they got close in New York. 00:22:59 Speaker 4: They didn't win in the York. 00:23:00 Speaker 6: But you sit down with him, he's a very thoughtful, entertaining, fun sensitive person and I've been fortunate to have a relationship with him. It's one of those where you go, yeah, I'm I'm covering the Big East tournament back when he's playing, and you know, they didn't talk to the media, nobody, Big John, none of that. And all of a sudden somebody said, hey, you'll you'll be friends with that guy. BE like, no, I don't think so. 00:23:27 Speaker 2: I agree with you a hundred percent. And I probably sat in that summit rooting for Elajawan in ninety four at least for a game seven they were down three to two. And I feel bad about it right now after you ing because he's such a nice guy. Jeez, I was really and I tell you, Denny Frank I saw to help me with him. I texted him because I got his number at three point thirty and he came out at four oh five. 00:23:55 Speaker 4: Yeah, that's pretty nice. 00:23:57 Speaker 2: That's pretty nice. 00:23:59 Speaker 6: The Tiger would situation, I'm wondering Tiger doesn't have anything when you think about where he is in his career, his body, golf is kind of over for him. I mean, it's maybe going to be ceremonial if he is he able to come back, and I know he's got other things to worry about, but I want to talk to this sports element of this having that where something you love, something you're defined by, but something you can't do because your body is broken. Now, I wonder what happens, like truly happens to Tiger Woods when he doesn't have that outlet, He doesn't have that ability to be able to go out there and play and play at you know, a high level. 00:24:42 Speaker 2: Well, he hasn't had it for a while though. I mean he's had the hope that he could do something, but he hasn't had it for a while. He seems to be in that executive council where you're trying to change, you know, some of the scenarios with the tour, with the signature events. Maybe down the road he can figure out a way to get shamp you know, the l I, the Live and the PGA tour sort of back together so we can see d Chambeau and Rom and Cameron Smith. I think, you know, you'll probably see him as a Ryder Cup captain, you know, down the road. I know he's not gonna do it next year. Maybe down the road. Yeah, it's a bad site. I feel bad for him now. I do think the gov community as a whole should have done something about this a long time ago. I think they've bowed down a tiger and have genuflected in front of him for thirty years. 00:25:36 Speaker 6: Chris, he's too big. I guess he's too big. You know, you surround yourself with yes people. You know that, you don't surround yourself with people go you know what, you probably shouldn't be doing that. You know what, Let me take away those pills, you know what, let me drive. That's Tyler got tight. Tiger got to where he is because he had a single minded focus and he wasn't listening to anybody. You know, he'd listened to it, you know, a golf instructor or his dad, but other than that, you know, Tiger was focused. Now you got to you got to take away some of that that he's gonna listen and I don't know if he will. 00:26:14 Speaker 2: Yeah, Freddick Coupo's justin Thomas, his agents. 00:26:18 Speaker 4: But don't you think they tried that, Chris? 00:26:20 Speaker 6: You think yes, But I think it's weird to you know, Tiger got rid of some friends here a while ago, you know, Berkley, some of those guys that you know he kind of You know that people said all these might not be great influences on you or whatever. The reasoning was, but I I just don't know if somebody is going to get his attention, uh and say, well. 00:26:44 Speaker 2: You know, I don't know if Barkley tried. I mean, did they really try? I mean, I mean, did his agent try? I mean, you can't have. I mean it's been three times now he's been driving. You know, whether it was in California when he fet asleep three o'clock in the morning the other day. I mean, geez, I mean, you would think somebody would have said tiger enough and he would have listened. 00:27:07 Speaker 6: But Christ, those are the ones that we know about, right. There might be some more, there's those are the ones we know about. 00:27:15 Speaker 2: And who do you like this weekend? Danny? 00:27:18 Speaker 4: I have Arizona winning the national title? 00:27:21 Speaker 2: Did you have did I'm sure you picked them a while ago? 00:27:24 Speaker 8: Correct? 00:27:24 Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, Okay, yeah, I. 00:27:27 Speaker 2: Think so too. I didn't pick them, but I think you're right. The one thing that I've had lapis on and a couple of others that did make a good point, the youth of Arizona worries people. They got three freshmen. 00:27:40 Speaker 4: In the back court, correct, Yeah. 00:27:42 Speaker 2: And Michigan's a little older. And I know a couple of coaches you talk to the same people more than I do. It seems like a little bit And after we saw a boozer make the mistake at mid court that there's a couple of people who think that could hurt Arizona in a close Now, they played a lot of close games all year. They played at Houston, Iowa State, played a great schedule, won at Yukon. So, I mean, it's not like they're not used to it. But this is the semifinals of the championship. So there you go, semifinals. 00:28:16 Speaker 4: If you're Tommy Lloyd. 00:28:18 Speaker 6: Is Arizona a better job than North Carolina? 00:28:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good one. No, he did not comment about it. Again, somebody said that you would know that Jordan called them last Friday. Tough to say no to Jordan. Does he have a good relationship with the Arizona staff. 00:28:38 Speaker 6: I was told the administration that there might be something fractured there. 00:28:43 Speaker 2: I heard the same thing, so and I and maybe he doesn't have a great relationship with the ad or somebody, and so as result, he leaves North Carolina as far as the job goes, Why leave tucsioned a great place? Duke's not eight miles away. There's not an incredible amount of pressure. You kill Arizona State a lot of players, good weather, you can win a championship. Why leaf. So that's if he's and he didn't even bring it. You know yesterday I'm focused on Arizona. He didn't say I'm not going to North Carolina. He said, I'm focused on Well, of course you're focused, Tommy. What do you think, Well, yeah, you know what. I'm out thinking about her. We know you're focused. So I think he might take the job. I think you might take it. 00:29:32 Speaker 4: I think North Carolina is preparing for that. 00:29:36 Speaker 2: I think so too. 00:29:37 Speaker 4: I get that. The Danny Hurley incident, how did you I. 00:29:43 Speaker 2: Mean, listen, he's I mean, I don't have a major problem with it. He did it out of exuberance. I don't know if it affected Ales getting the job in the final four. Everybody says he's a great ref and people love him. I guess Danny's got a good relationship with him. He was excited. He did touch him, all right. The idea that he didn't is silly. We all saw it. But I'm not going to make it. You can't give him a technical foul, I mean, not ridiculous. So I'm okay with it, but it is a little it looks. It looks the perception looks bad. The perception. And I'll tell you right now, give that Connecticut team a lot of credit, Danny oh Man Cochu, the vibe, the toughness. I mean, they got killed by Saint John's in the Big East Final. A lot of teams don't recover from that, and they did. I remember their first championship. They lost Marquette in the semi finals of the Big East and won the title. I mean, they recover really well. Let's give Hurley a lot of credit for that. 00:30:49 Speaker 4: You know what I wanted to have you on. 00:30:51 Speaker 6: Initially it was for the automated balls and strikes, right, I love it, but I want baseball to embrace all of it. 00:31:00 Speaker 4: I don't like the hey, you made the wrong call. 00:31:04 Speaker 6: Now everybody in the ballpark knows the umpire made the wrong call. I think if you are able to just say all the calls are, you know, just like tennis, automated balls and strikes. It can be up on the Jumbo tron, it can be you know, a game show feel to it, and you can, you know, have some fun with it, and nobody is getting embarrassed by this because even when you miss a call, I can miss a call by you know, a centimeter, but the crowd doesn't know that. They're like, you're a bomb you miss. I just think and they're going to be headed that way. I just I don't know if Manfred thought that this out of these umpires are going to be singled out even when they might get ninety six percent or ninety seven percent of the calls. 00:31:48 Speaker 4: Correct. 00:31:48 Speaker 2: Yeah, I like the strategy of it, but I do know what you're saying. CB Buckner looked bad last weekend. He's a perfect example. Yeah, I think that was probably a little bit too big of a jump to go from you know, uh umpires, balls and strikes. Now we're not gonna have a home plate umpire. I think you need a gradual step. So I think eventually you might be right, you might see this, But I think they probably were looking for something halfway and then down the road they do it full way. You know, baseball has got a lot of juice right now. You know, they had a very good WBC. The ABS people are into it. I mean, outside of Netflix, which was awful in the first game of the year. You know, they you know, there's there's some energy in the sport. I think people are into it. They had some decent ratings Fox the first game of the year Yankee pitching the Mets or is interesting. I think baseball right now has got a little momentum and it'd be interesting to see how that plays into this labor situation when we get through the season. But I think baseball really, you know, had a great World Series as you know, uh, you know, they had eleven million watch the Venezuela USA game couple weeks ago. So I think baseball right now is in a good place and the game is quicker. I give him a lot of credit. Now it's going to go in and out of the clouds because you got the Masters, the NBA and all the so people are gonna forget about it and it gets into that long season. But I think baseball's got to loot juice right now. I really do. 00:33:20 Speaker 4: Right, are you gonna sound this way this afternoons? 00:33:23 Speaker 2: Good point? I do have Mick Kronan on. I think you had him on this week. I had good job with is Oh. I heard that I got Crooning on because he played all four teams, so I thought that'd be a good spot and he's funny, so I have some juice. You know how it works, Danny at our rage. You know, when my first kid was born, I took two days off. Now you get six months off. So from that standpoint, you know, you got to play hurt. So sometimes you got to dig through it and get through three hours. You've done it for how long now? Thirty five? Eight, forty years? 00:33:58 Speaker 4: Forty years yeah, forty years, yeah. 00:34:01 Speaker 2: Forty years TV and radio. 00:34:04 Speaker 4: Yeah, it's pretty good. Yeah, maybe we should do a show together one time. 00:34:09 Speaker 2: You know what, did you announce your retirement yet? By the way, yes, when is that. 00:34:14 Speaker 4: Going to be the Super Bowl in Atlanta? 00:34:17 Speaker 2: So you got another year and a half to go? Yeah, all right, let's make a deal. Okay, that's a long way off, it's even half. But sometime in the next eighteen months, I'll come where you are and I'll co host with you. Okay, and you'll come to serious and you will co host with me. 00:34:39 Speaker 4: Or I could just go to your house. 00:34:41 Speaker 2: I do that three days a week. I don't know if you want to sit on my third floor and listen to my wife, you know, bobbled away, but you can. But you why don't we do that? 00:34:53 Speaker 4: All right, I'll do I'll go one. 00:34:55 Speaker 2: Day where you might be and I'm not. And if you want to do it at a big event, we can do it at a big event. You do it at the super Bowl, you want to do it something like that, we can do it. You pick the time, have Todd Fritz take care of it. Where I will do one the whole show, okay, not ten minutes, host show, and you come to me and we'll do me first, because it's your show and you are retiring, so we'll do me first, and then i'll go do you. How's that? 00:35:24 Speaker 4: When are you retiring? 00:35:28 Speaker 2: That's a good question. How old are you? You're a little older, right, seventy in May? May? What? 00:35:36 Speaker 4: Fifteenth? 00:35:37 Speaker 2: Okay, my wife's my mother's May nine. I think. Let's see. So you're gonna be seventy, So you're gonna retire. You're gonna be seventy. 00:35:46 Speaker 6: One, seventy one seven, yeah, almost seventy two, yeah. 00:35:50 Speaker 2: Seventy two. 00:35:50 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:35:52 Speaker 2: I won't be too far behind you. 00:35:54 Speaker 4: You can announce it right now. 00:35:56 Speaker 2: No, No, I won't be. I won't. First off, I got into the year. I got some time to go on some on a contract with serious I won't be too far behind you, you know, seventy two. I say, do you have some plans what you're gonna do? 00:36:12 Speaker 6: No? 00:36:13 Speaker 2: Are you going to go travel the world? 00:36:15 Speaker 4: I'd like to maybe live in Italy for a while. Okay, my wife's Italian. 00:36:23 Speaker 2: Very are you going to you know, go cold Turkey on sports or used to follow it carefully? 00:36:31 Speaker 4: I think I'll be a casual fan. Probably casual. 00:36:35 Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean we use Okay, I might get into soccer, Chris if you go to Italy? 00:36:40 Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so you might. 00:36:42 Speaker 2: When you say live in Italy talking about like for six months? Yeah, like a couple of. 00:36:46 Speaker 4: Years, yeah, six maybe six months? Yeah, something like that. 00:36:49 Speaker 2: You have a second location where you can live now out of the cold weather or not? 00:36:53 Speaker 4: No, will you do that? No? Oh really that'd be Italy? Wow? 00:37:00 Speaker 2: Yeah, have you thought about it? 00:37:03 Speaker 4: I might use sports radio in Italy? 00:37:06 Speaker 2: Can you speak Italian? 00:37:07 Speaker 4: Danny and the meat Balls? You know, bring crew? 00:37:12 Speaker 2: All right, but we have a lot of time of reminisce about your career. We're gonna do that. 00:37:16 Speaker 6: One each, all right, I promise. Okay, I love you, see, thank you do. That's Christopher mad Dog Russo Mad Dog Unleashed weekdays at three Eastern, and I try to tune in. I don't listen to sports talk. Hopefully I got that pronounced correctly. 00:38:29 Speaker 8: You got it. 00:38:31 Speaker 4: Morning Dan Dannett's Morning. 00:38:35 Speaker 11: I've got a pretty funny story about a autograph that my wife got from Sandy Kofax, which was almost an impossible thing to do. My father in law in late fifties took her to a Dodgers game and Sandy was pitching. She's between eight and eleven, and as they're walking out of the ballpark, they walk by where the cars come out with the players, and as she's walking by, Sandy's car comes by and has to stop because of traffic. 00:39:06 Speaker 4: She runs over and there. 00:39:08 Speaker 11: I think it was a convertible. The window was rolled down and she asks, can I have your autograph? And he says no. So my wife, hardheaded as she is, runs in front of the car, puts her hands on the front and won't let him drive until he lets her come back and actually gives her a ball, signs it, and then it's a ball that the other players actually signed as well. 00:39:31 Speaker 8: Well. 00:39:32 Speaker 4: Thank you for sharing that. 00:39:33 Speaker 6: Somebody sent me a Sandy Kofax autograph baseball, but I don't know if it's real or not. 00:39:40 Speaker 4: Somebody also sent me to. 00:39:42 Speaker 6: Pete Rose autograph baseballs, which I know those are We're real. Somebody sent me a Hank Aaron autograph baseball. I don't know if that one's real, but the Sandy Kofax one that would be rare if it's real. 00:39:56 Speaker 4: Gues Toun and the Pete Rose one of the balls said take me over. 00:39:58 Speaker 2: So you know what I had to be here. 00:40:01 Speaker 6: No, he would write, I bet on baseball, Like there are baseball's out there that Pete autographed, and like he was like, I already got punished. What are you gonna do? I bet on baseball? So I mean I just saw the Sandy Kofex ball. It's in the back of the man Cave. And then the Hank Aaron won as well. Yes time. 00:40:27 Speaker 3: Based on that's theory, I would question the authenticity too. It was like he was at a big rush to sign anything. 00:40:31 Speaker 6: No, you know, Bill Russell never did. Bill Russell famously never signed an autograph, even for teammates. There's a story that one of his teammates asked for an autograph, I think Satch Sanders, and he wouldn't sign. He just he didn't believe in signing autographs. Yes time, as I say, because back then there was no eBay or anything like that. It wasn't like you're just going to sell it online. Back then, that wouldn't have been a reason to not sign something. Yeah, final hour on the way Lewis Riddick, he was at Fernando Mendoza's pro day. What does he think of the Raiders adding Kirk Cousins. More of your phone calls as well.
