Free agency week is wrapping up and proved to be pretty exciting there, certainly with what happened with Max Crosby. Now, I've seen a couple of reports that there are still some teams that are probably trying to swoop in and get Max Crosby. We heard from a former player yesterday who said that you can fail. Somebody fail their physical if maybe things aren't working out your with the amount of money you want to pay. And I don't want to mention who the person is. You know, it's not a pass fail type physical from what we were told yesterday by this former player, And it's basically he wanted this amount of money and then they were going to fail his physical and then he said, well how about I play for this, and suddenly he passed his physical. It's open to interpretation here and with Max Crosby, is he going to be able to pass the physical? What happens when he gets traded? He goes to another team and passes the physical. Is that going to raise flags with what happened in Baltimore? Yes, and that's where if I'm the commissioner, I at least have to explore this, I at least have to make a phone call just to do my due diligence on Is everything on the up and up with this situation? But from what we've heard, you know, we're not quite sure about that Patrick Mahomes coming back from knee surgery. What if the Kansas City doctor says, man, I don't know, I don't know if I'm going to pass that physical. Of course he's going to pass the physical because he's Patrick Mahomes. But Max Crosby is he going to pass the physical with the Raiders when he went back? Does he have a take a physical as well? I mean it's still there's still a lot to be learned or explored, I think with this situation.

Speaker 2: If you go back to the COVID year with the NBA, and I heard from somebody with the NBA and they said that they were hoping to dress up the basketball floor and they were going to illuminate. They that this was going to be the future with the NBA, that they were going to showcase the floor, and they wanted to bring more eyeballs to it. And I do believe on the horizon you're going to have the three point shot line that'll light up, or if you make a three at lights up. I think there's a lot of things that are going to happen. It's you know, if you go back to hockey, when hockey used to have advertisements on the boards there, I think basketball is going to try to do that. We saw this with a Big twelve. A Big twelve obviously not ready for that. The conference installed an led glass court. The commissioner said, it's the future of basketball. It can change colors, it can light it for three pointers, provide some bold branding initiatives as well. The problem is the players did not like it, and they had it for the women's tournament, and all of a sudden they decided they're going to as they go into i think the semi finals of the Big Twelve men's Conference tournament, they're going to go back to the old basketball floor. Yes, Paul, how do you replace a glass floor with a wood floor overnight? I have no idea how you do that. Well, they probably have that floor in storage. And then they brought this other one out in Kansas City, so they could unveil this for the Big twelve tournament. Shouldn't this be something they should have thought of in the off season. Maybe get some games on there, Maybe let people decide, if you know they're comfortable with this, let's bring in our good buddy Seth Greenberg for the mothership. How did we get there with this big twelve floor? And why are we just realizing that the players aren't comfortable on it?

Speaker 10: Brett Yormac is obviously thinking outside the box, thinking commissioner. I mean to think about it, Bremi Ormac is so far outside the box the PAC twelve no longer exists. That's how he thinks big picture. He thinks marketing, he thinks branding. He thinks, you know, creating an image for his organization. The floor had been used before, but the players are not used to that floor. Obviously, this surface was slippery to play the biggest games in those kids' careers. In terms of trying to play the way into the NCAA tournament and win a championship, probably wasn't the greatest decision, But I also give him a lot of preduit to have the agility to say you know what, this isn't working. This isn't the welfare of our players, our organization, our league. It's not a good look. And to be able to pivot and show the agility to move on and go back to the wood court of court that players are used to playing on, which I think that's the biggest thing. You play your whole It's like changing the ball. You can't change the ball every year. You know, you get used to a ball that you're playing with during the cross of the season. So I give them a lot of credit for the ingenuity of trying it. I also give them a lot of credit for the agility to say, you know what, this isn't working for us. We need to change.

We've seen a lot of these universities where they bring out their own court, but I think illuminating and what somebody with the NBA said, it's going to resemble a pinball machine. Those are the words, and that was back during COVID. We haven't seen that yet, but I do think that's on the horizon. Let me give you the full introduction. Only three other schools ever done it, Kentucky, which Test state now then and if you go further back, you know you're talking about the old Saint Joe's team that lost in the first round of That team was ended up a number one seed. But it's hard to do what they were able to do. Their resume says they're not one of the thirty seven best teams, but their accomplishment says they are. And to do what they were able to do in a conference, as you know, then at such a level playing field the MAC, I mean like same budgets, everyone's in a bus, Every game's a grind. The Arenas have great ownership. I think you've got to reward the accomplishment. I'm not saying their resume says it, but I think that they deserve an opportunity and I think they're playing the playing.

Speaker 10: You know, he's kind of walked that back a little bit. You know, Bruce, I love him to death, but we also know he has a little bit of an agenda. I mean, his son is right on that bubble. He wants to see his son get the ants a tournament. There's been a lot of focus on their struggles. Bruce Pearl kind of and I love him to death and he's a dear friend, but he kind of screwed his own son because when he left and then segularly left with at a totally new roster, and they weren't going to be last few years ouper teams. You don't lose Janni Broom, you don't lose the players that they let lost, and then all of a sudden handed to your son, Sarah, Hey, go ahead and go ahead and win twenty games, Go go to the Sweet sixteen, go to the Elite eight. You know he had no chance to really win. Steven's going to be a good coach. He really is. He's passionate, he cares about it. They've got to recruit some guys. But he was out the difficult hand. Bruce, on the other hand, he's got to stay out of the way. And then here I'm talking about a friend like yesterday, his whole thing on the sidelines, screaming at someone stay out of the way. You're not the story. Auburn's the story. Your son's the story. Support your son by helping him recruit at the appropriate time, but you cannot be front and center and become the story. The story's got to be Auburn's team and the guy that's coaching them. Now it just happens to be your son.

Speaker 2: Yeah, I was disappointed watching Bruce. I mean, you know this goes back to parents ruined sports because they get so involved, so vocal. You know, he should just be sitting there quietly, maybe the way John Wooden used to when he retired as UCLA's basketball coach. He just sat there and watched the game. How many heavyweights do we have? Is college basketball top heavy in this year's tournament?

Speaker 10: Yeah? I think they are about seven teams, seven or eight teams that can win it all. I pay for player at nil or whatever you want to call a revshare, it's and the transfer port together. Look, it's been combustible. It's really hurting the mid majors. It's just the way the way it is. It's it's the cost of doing the business. So like the bubble, people say the bubble stinks, the bubble doesn't stink because there's parody within the bubble. So the I'M majors, more good players are spread out through the landscape and college basketball, so they're more good teams. And then there are a few great teams. But what it's done is Tilford all the really good players from the mid majors, not all of them, but most of them. So we've got a logjam of these teams that are beating each other up in the league and acc the SEC, the Big twelve, the Big Ten. Then you've got a couple that have separated themselves. Michigan separated themselves, Duke until the injury the other day, separated themselves, Varna has separated themselves. So you've got those Arizonas separated themselves. Then you've got the next year that are very good because they've retained the right players and filled them with voids. And then you've got a lot of teams that are just you know, they're good enough to beat anyone, but they're bad enough to lose to anyone. And that's what we've what we've come to. It's kind of I don't know, is it a lot like the NFL where they wanted parody, then they got more parody, and all of a sudden they complained about parody.

Speaker 2: I'm wondering about these budgets. Jim Beheim was saying, you know, Syracuse, you know, it's it's no surprise the top teams in the ACC they spent the most money, and Syracuse and some of these other schools did not. What is the budget for a great or a good, good major college team?

Speaker 2: In college football, they're approaching forty million dollars? Are we at twenty million for the top end schools? In basketball?

Speaker 10: Last year was around around twelve. Now Kentucky spent twenty two, but last year was around twelve. But if you think about three years ago, it was four million, right three years later, it's twelve. It's you know, like it seems like it's doubling. Now you say, well, how is that possible. I mean, the total amount of repsure money is twenty point five million, right, I mean, I think that's the number allegedly people are supposed to be working on. Look, there's no guardrails, there's no rules. Everyone's going to find a way to circumvent these things. They're going to find collectives, They're going to find a real nil deals within their communities that they can justify. That's just the way it is. Eventually, the Power fives are going to break off. We're still going to be n CNAA tournament, but it's going to be even more of the haves and have nots. I think like the sixteen bottom Division I schools will be the opening round, that's my thing, and they'll play their way into the main bracket. So you'll get the best of the one big leagues in the field. But if you're an athletic department and you're spending these millions and millions and millions of dollars, you know, here's the deal you want to return on the investment, and that's playing in the NCAA tournament, that's playing in the college football playoffs. You can't spend all that money and not get a return. Then all of a sudden, you know, there's Dono fatigue. I mean that's just the way it is. There's Doni fatigue. It is real, and like it's great that there are a few programs that have these monster boosters, but not everyone has them. So you know, eventually, I think they're gonna be breakoff and we're gonna semi more more than we're doing now professionalized coolg athletics.

No explosions, nobody's getting killed, there's none of that. It's just there is some unbelievable acting. And Ethan Hawke is you know, worthy of winning the Academy Award. He won't, but certainly it's it's an incredible performance. And I don't know how many people are going to see a movie about uh. You know, before Rodgers and Hammerstein, the music duel Broadway, you had the predecessor was it Rogers in Heart And he plays the role of Heart in this movie. And uh, he's an alcoholic, complicated role. But if you get a chance, you got to be in the mood to watch it. But Ethan Hawke, uh does an incredible, incredible job. You have Paul, No Cgi, no car chases, no no, no, none of that, none of that, just good old movie making. What else doing? This is a big one for you, Dan, you want best Supporting Actor. I know you have a strong opinion about you know, Sean Penn. Yes, Sean is minus three point fifty to win it. Follow the favor he is okay.
