Hey, everybody, Dando here. Hope you all had a fantastic holiday break and New Year's. We had an amazing time here in the Dando household over the last couple of weeks. It was just great. Now the kids are right into Santy, you know, they're three and five now, Holly in, Elliott right into Santa Claus well behaved. Can you believe it? And it was. It was just amazing though, in particular getting to spend time with Alliot because he hasn't me going to Dake. Everything's been shut down. I get to spend a lot of time with Alliott before he starts school. He starts school the end of this month. Can you believe it? Longtime listeners of this pod, you know, Elliot didn't even exist when the show started. And now the little bugger's about to go to school. Can you believe it? Guys, I'm going to be the parent of a child going to school. Dano, the parent of a child going to school. He's not bothered, he's excited. I'm scared. I'm you know, I'm just anxious. I'm just I don't know, it's just my little man's going to school. So, as I said, it was just great getting to take a couple of weeks off and just spend some time with the little man. We won't be returning to a regular program until next week, as you can probably tell from the title of this podcast, but we will be key off with a bang next week because every month now we're going to be going back and revisiting a classic episode of The Simpsons, because Guy, as you're well aware, was not around for the first ten seasons of the show. In the past, we've been going back and doing Guy on Springfield reviews for our Patreon, but now we're just be doing it every month, maybe a couple of months, depending on how we're feeling, going back and revisiting a classic episode. And we thought we start off with one of my favorite episodes of all time. It's Homer the Great I know right, one of the best episodes ever and it was so much fun to record. That. One's actually available right now early in ad free on our Patreon, so if you want to support the show, you can get access to that right now, as well as all the other exclusive podcasts we do up on there. But until then, though, I'm gonna be throwing up for you guys. This week A sneak peek at our recent Movie Guys review where we were joined by Mitch. Mitch now joins us for All the Movie Guys podcast once again, and for the first time ever, we're all in the same room and you could really tell the vibe, the energy. It was back baby, and the patrons voted for us to review Jingle All the Way. One of my suggestions. Each month we throw out two. I threw out two, Mitch throws out two, and Guy throws out two titles under a particular theme, and the patrons get to vote on which movie we do, and they generally choose mind because I feel like I'm on the same wavelength with our listeners, with all of you guys out there, and you guys voted for all the patrons voted for Jingle All the Way, which I was very happy with, and the actual review goes for around two hours. It was so much fun. But you know, obviously this is just gonna be a sneak peak, won't be the full episode if you want to get the full episode, as well as all the other Movie Guys podcasts, and as I said, all the other Slizzy stuff we do. I'm just gonna be a supporter of ours on Patreon. Another movie Guys we did recently was another one of my favorite movies of all time, Space jam I don't write how exciting is that? So you actually got to hear us talking about space Sham, which was a lot of fun as well. But there's plenty of movie guys reviews up on our Patreon. But yeah, again, guys, I've said this to you so many times in the past, with thank you so much for all of your support. I feel like I've grown with you guys. You know, as I was saying earlier a couple of months ago, that Elliott didn't exists before this show started, and now he's going to school. I'm just I've gone from a crazy little kid to a parent of a school child. And you know, it means so much to me that you guys have supported us for so long, because it means I was able to take a pun to myself. Last year was actually over a year ago now it was twenty twenty two, and turn this into my job, into my career. I pinched myself every morning that this is my job, but it wouldn't be possible about support of each and every one of you. And that's why I'm always chilling myself with the Patreon. But yeah, I just thank you so much for listening to the show over the last eight plus years, almost nine years now, Absolute legends, each and every one of you. Honestly believe me, if you're listening to this, I thank you. It really means a lot to me. But yeah, I hope you enjoy this little sneak peek at Jingle All the Way. We shall be returning next week with our review of Home of the Great which is already available early in ad free. As I said, I've on our Patreon, and we're going to be doing plenty of more exciting new things here in the fourthing of Discount Network in twenty twenty four. Lots of exciting new podcasts are going to be starting. I can't wait. You're going to love what we've got in store for you, guys. But for now, sit back and enjoy our little steave peak at our recent movie guy's review of Jingle All the Way. Have you ever bought or rented a videotape that wasn't quite right? It may have been a pirate copy and the leg and now our feature presentation. Can I kick off by telling people what happened when I was greeted at the house. What firstly, it's been a while since I've been here, and hello everyone, I mitched for those that knew our listeners to the show, firstly, you've got duel friends doormats. That threw me for a hour, although it did also help because it's been a while since I've been here, and which house is Dando's? And yep, how you doing? That works? And then as I was wiping my feet on how you do? And I saw it's like that's central perk that sitting beneath it and lifted it up and sure enough, yes, uh but the bit can never have too many friends, ah wholesome. The bit that threw me was I came in I needed to do a Wii before starting the recording. Now it's bedtime, obviously, so when the door was originally opened, it was like just hushed tones and I was looked at like scum for having the audacity to have knocked. How dare you so with that's whats pants? It's after eight o'clock, This motherfucker's knocking. Do you have a warrant? Quick marriage? I asked to use the toilet and Dando it turns out that had no toilet paper. Dando's first thing was to Nikola, can you please get some tissues or the box of tissues? That was get the tissue box, which was excited. I genuinely thought it was going to be a noise issue. I was like, does he want me to we into the tissue box? Like, is that is that where we're at? Is my two messins splashing into the bowl going to be too loud for your kids to sleep? That's that you're doing that Howard Stern thing where he's talking about how he went on and he wanted to impress his girlfriend. This this would be girlfriend. So there was like a little like a little bucket next to the doors only so we filled that and like jumped out the doors. I was like, oh my god, this guy must be huge. That's fantastic, that's so good. That's actually reminded me of I mean, in hindsight, probably a racist joke now, but of take us back to the good old days then West Indian we were quoting a lot of Eddie Murphy without doing a full set up. It was too West Indian cricketers end up having a whizz off of the yes off of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and one of them I think in this in the joke it was know, well, let's say it was Curtly Ambrose ridges in Curly Ambrose and so that on the harbor Bridge having a wee and Curtly turns to Viv and says, Jesus, the water is cold, and Viv says, not very deep either. I've heard that one before. I heard it in the old traditional, nineteen nineties racist Australian way though. Yeah, mine was that was printed. That was in a Max Walker joke book. Really, yeah, joke books. I am not surprised they still do joke books. I imagine you would. You would find them at the post office. Yeah, and be pocket size, wouldn't they. Yeah? Anyway, how are we? Let's just start this we hit a record, a review of jingle all the way? How are we all doing? Gentlemen? First time? And we actually worked this out since before COVID, we haven't all been in the same room together pre COVID. Once upon a time in Hollywood at Guy's house was the last time we were in the same room that was really close to COVID, wasn't it. It was? That was the end of twenty nineteen, yeah, or the beginning of twenty twenty one of the two, Yeah, because I know that when the I think the Watchables did a live review of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and one of them got COVID or something during the review, So like there must have been a really close crossover there. I'll see when it came out Upon a Time? When was that this? If you can guess, guy, I think, well, I'm not sure about the day, but I'm pretty sure it was the end of twenty nineteen, twenty nineteen. It says say the month fifth August, fifteenth August. Yeah, okay, it was a mid year one, wasn't It was a summertime release. Yeah, that means yeah, right, So that was right after me coming back from our Europe trip. Like one of the first things I did when getting back to Australia was apparently leave Ash behind to go to the movies with Tom. You had enough of her well a month, it's a pretty solid amount of time to only be seen like go to the three Hours you shouldn't have twice? Wait sure you watch all of those credits, then go see end all right, jingle all the way gentlemen. But before we get into that, I just wanted to just discuss what are we up to? What's someone doing for Christmas this year? That's a very good question. I know that I'll be going down to. This is very gelong centric content, as I say, our global network of listeners, but going down to the coastal town of bow and Heads, smugt Mary's that where she lives. No, no, I'm still here. But my elder sister Joanne lives down there, and she's got a new decking on the outside and a little bit of redecoration all over, so that only calls you piggy or whatever she does. Indeed, he's family calling piggy. And this was not a way issue because I was not always well fed, particularly pink one day. Did you get too much sun? There? Is that? I mean, I am prone not to tan. Were you a little slimy? I think it might have been a Lord of the Flies. So someone scratched your glasses. Yeah, I tried to steal the consent. I got thrown off a cliff. Life was tough in the Davis household. That fucked up, by the way. Lord of Fly Yeah, I know it's based in the book obviously, but like I'm watching the kid going, what I read this great? They killed him? This great? Take a drink, folks, because it's whenever guy says I read this great through on Twitter, that's I have. William Golding thought, you know, teenage boys were savages, so we wrote a whole book about it called Lord of the Flyers. And then there was this article about these boys who actually got shipwrecked, and you know they built like a gym out of you know, rocks and sticks, and you know. It was the first ever season of Love Islands. Pretty much this was f boy Island, except no chicks were getting effed. But no, I mean they all looked out for one another. One kid broke his leg and everyone looked out looked out for him. I mean Golden was like, oh, it's just a descent in the savagery human beings around was like, dude's rock. Yeah, sure, kings. I mean, I like the idea of still wanting to maintain your suspense of physic fitness. It feels like you would just get enough of that through living off the land in on the like in general, well, it's that Tom Hanks Castaway diet. Yeah, coconut water and raw fish. Yeah, yeah, you unrequired love for Helen Hunt and all that kind of stuff. Unrequired love for Helen Hunt sustained a lot of men through the late nineties. Yeah, when did it? When did we run out of love for Helen Hunt? Though? I think the minute she won the Oscar. I was going to say, when the man shake came in and I no longer needed to use her as a meal replacement. So she won the Oscar? And what that was? Good? Nineties? Yeah? Yeah, okay, what she win the Oscar for? As good as it gets? Did Nicholson win it as well? For that? Yeah? Yeah? The Best Picture they did it? No, no, no, this is yeah ninety eight but it was ninety seven movie. Yeah, nine seven movie. Okay, it's one of those films. I remember watched that. Everyone talked. I watched it about a year ago. I remember enjoying it. I don't necessarily remember thinking there's two Best Picture winners. No, no, it's not Top top Shop James L. Brooks wasn't it got one for Best Supporting? I remember Greg Kenney. Yeah, that I remember is what they did win three? No, no, he got nominated. I think he was actually really good. He definitely should have won it in my opinion. But what was he going up against? Did we know Roan and Juliet that getting them? None? So we look up ninety eight oscars, right that best Supporting? Just look it up, all right? So Robin Williams good be hunting of course? Uh yeah, great? Was it gets but Reynolds, Boogie Knights, Anthony Hopkins Amastad and Robert Forster Jackie Brown did Did either Matt or Ben get a Best Acting? I think I think Damon did? Did he o Best Actor? I think he got a nomination? Yeah, let's look, I'm just curious who Nicholson beat out that year when Jack Nicholson, it's a it was a weird line up because I was what I listened to the Boogie Knights Rewatchables, Yeah, and they were talking about ninety seven and now it was Damon Hoffman for Wag the Dog, Peter Fonder for ULI's goal and for the Apostle. Yeah, it was like, that's a that's a chaotic line. Yeah, it is watch Fag the Dog. But it had a really bad audio mix. It was just a DVD that wasn't fantastic. So it was yeah, my only experience of watching Wag the Dog was one of coming away with mild befuddlement, of just being like, I see that there's an idea of a movie in this, but I'm not entirely sure what I just watched. This is what most people feel when they watch The Whale. I still didn't watch The Whale. Okay, yeah, I mean it's weird. I like Brendon Fraser and I like Darren Alosky. I guess I just hate fat people. I don't know. I saw a trailer for it, and like Gilbert Grape never never got to you. Shallow Hell, though, bona fide classic. That was fake fat. This is this is a repret but it was real fat, fake fake skinny had Jason Alexander with a tail in it, right, Yeah, yeah, thats one. That's something we all lived through. He just couldn't quite nail any role that was decent after sign felt goody or before or outside. But this is just and as I have said many times, he is very good in the nineteen eighties horror movie The Burning. Always talk about this legitimately you say it's a great movie, right, or He's not a legitimately great movie. It's a pretty good horror movie. But he just does he escape from the burning by throwing an old woman to the grounds, kids to the side. Given that he's one of the few people who actually survives, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Alright, he what Jingle all the Way? Mitch? Start us off? What were your earliest memories of Jingle all the Way? So numb? I did not watch Jingle all the Way when it came out. The first time that I would have seen this movie was I don't know, somewhere in the last five years. Really that lay Yeah, just I never cared one ioda about this movie. It was something that Ash had watched and it was a bit of a nostalgia trip for her to watch. When we first sat down and watched it a few years ago. That was the only time that I've seen it up until watching it again for this review. It's weird because I remember it being on like every summer at Christmas time, like Channel seven possibly, but I'm also really good at not getting knocked out during Wham mcgeddon, so things that are really popular around Christmas time I tend to slip under. Yeah, please explain Wammageddon to me. I know of it, but I had to go the month of December without hearing Last Christmas by Wham. Oh I hate that song. Yeah, Nicol puts it on all the time. It came close. Earlier today, I walked into a store and they were playing Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul as Wings or just McCarthy. I think that was just McCartney. So I heard that and I high tailed it out of there. I thought, if that's on the playoffs, then Wham won't be far away. Yeah, Nicola always because that's huge in the UK. They fucking love that song and Christmas Last Christmas. Yeah, I did both of them, but more Last Christmas. And I'm just like, I don't get it. This is a shit song. So it doesn't feel like a Christmas song. It says Christmas, it doesn't make it a Christmas song. I know, we say Diehard at Christmas movie, so I'm about to say similar things about Christmas move movies as we go along in this podcast. Yeah, but it's just like this doesn't have the Christmas. That's almost the Christmas vibe at all in my opinion. It's sad love song that fuck it. Yeah, but yeah, so what I would have been eight or nine. Did this get a ninety six release in Australia? Was it would? Yeah? It took five weeks to make. They just slapped this together. I was gonna say it was thrown together so quickly. I don't know why it wouldn't have mattered to me as a kid, because I mean, obviously you're aware of I'm Schwartznegger. I've been to movie World. I was the movie would have to do with it? Oh, actually Batman Robin would have come like, did they have a terminator thing at movie World? No? No, no, no, no, all right? Nothing more recently you go to movie World there's a terminator thing? Is it not? Yeah? This was the last time I went to Movie World there was a terminator thing. There was no It might not have lasted for a long time, but there was a term. Didn't make the Terminator? I've seen it in Australia. It's a live action terminator? Was it a planet? Hollywood? Do we have a planet? Hollywood? We did just that, the Endo skeleton, the window that amongst you. I swear that they didn't make it right. Who made Terminated? Which? Which production company wasn't warning? Was it? No? They may have got the rights at something. It was Fox because it's on Disney Plus must be It must be Fox, isn't it. No? The original is Hemdale production through Oryan. T two is a parco production through TriStar try Star. This one says Paramount Pictures, and then for the first one and then the third one. I don't know if Warner Brothers might have had international distribution on on one of them, unless because they have a three D cinema Movie World, but I don't think that was ever. I think the first one, this wasn't a ride. This was enacted out. Yeah, they have it at Universal Studios in America. Maybe that's where're getting confused, because you went to Universal Studios. Yeah, but I did so many places, so many parties. It doesn't matter. There must be someone else out there that's seen this. But it's weird because because I think it was in a weird phase of his career at this point, wasn't he He was kind of on the way I'm going on a second terminated to two three D show at Universal Studios, Hollywood, Yes, but yeah, also at Warner Brothers Movie World on the Gold Coast. Yeah, and yeah, it cool was done here yeah, okay, there we go. Thank you to Parks dot Com do I U yeah, I remember that Nod's legit. See we went in because we went when it first opened and it was like a brand new thing. It was Marvin the Martian four D. Then it became Shrek four D. I think it for a while, and then now it's something else. I don't know at the cinema movie world. But Arnie's career at this point in time, well, yeah, I mean this is ninety six and Arnold in ninety six has got the well I better say the one two punch, but it's a bit sort of it's not a great body blow in it's a swing and a miss of a raser and jingle of the way. Now. One thing I think Animal was prided for or best known for, maybe not best known for, but certainly known for at the height of his career was he worked with really good filmmakers. I mean he would work with Paul Verhove, and he worked with James Cameron clearly a lot of times, John mctinnan on Predator, and unlike Stilly, the directors may apply, but he wasn't sort of throwing his weight around all that much. He was willing to collaborate with her with you know, sort of high end talented people. And when you look at who's behind the camera on both a Razor and Jingle all the Way, I mean Brian Levan, who did Jingle all the Way. He's best known for like Beethoven and the Flintstones, these sort of amiable but kind of junkie family comedies and erasers by a guy called Chuck Russell, who's you know, he did one of the Elm Street sequels. He made a really good remake of the Blob. But yeah, he did the Mask. Yeah, but you can tell that the bloom is coming off the rose just a little bit. You can sort of you can always feel it when someone's not quite at the top of the game anymore. And yeah, I mean, oh, look he's still Arnold, and I mean he's still got name value and face value. You've seen on the post, you're probably going to go and see it. I mean, both the movies did pretty well, but it's like, I think we're a little bit away from Terminator to Total Recall. We're a little way away from the glory days. It's true, lies had been maybe a couple of years before it's a bad run that he's on here, and not only this. It actually surprised me because even as recently as the mid two thousands, before the Governor Run, if Schwarzenegg was in a movie that was going to be enough to drum up excitement. But ninety four True Lies, as you say, that's probably the last, the last good movie that he's made, and I've got a soft spot for was Genesis, the most recent terminator from Memory, Dark Fate, Dark Fate, whichever one that Linda came back for. Yeah, I do like that one who usually in mind are too many now? Yeah, But so from True Lies we go junior commercial success but critical nothing isn't making a good movie then achieved what it was that to do right, Well, they're trying to recap of the whole Swarzeninga de Vito Twins Magic, Okay, so that's why he's pregnant. I've one I was going to say that movie is successful because of his prior successes, not as a standalone. If that, if what had come before hadn't happened, I don't see Twins making a huge amount of money when you can still put names on a poster in Celticus. Yeah, so as a raiser jingle all the way Batman and Robin End of Days, End of Days. Yeah, collateral damage. And then we get into a period where there's a bunch of Terminator sequels and acting becomes much more separated. It turns into cameos in the Expendables. He almost became a meme, didn't he ya a while the Last Stand, which is a bit of a nothing movie politics, so that's why. Yeah, yeah, there's that, But it also just as one of those things that when you think of the legacy of the guy, you you would hope that he would be able to make his like Unforgiven or something like that. That would be cool if he did King Conan, which is a project that's been talked about for ages. I mean, I think that would be fantastic, like his Last Hurrah. Yeah, like a real good action movie to go out on, because I mean, do you feel like Maggie might have been an attempt at something like that that just didn't land. Maybe. I mean there's a lot of movies that that from no one really knows about that he's sort of trying different things, and that after burn or after math where I think his family is killed in like a terrorist bomb is it's a bit like collateral damage, but it's played a lot more for drama than it is for actual action, and he's trying to do some legit acting in it. I think, really, now you've got him as kind of like the Elder Statesman and the self help Guru, and his book will be useful as out he's cameo and Walking Tall. Actually, as I think through the later years where there's a Walking Tall, the Rundown or Welcome to the Jungle, the Jungle sorry one with the Rock and it's great. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's called the Rundown in the in the States and Welcome to the Jungle here. But yeah, I think you're right. I wish The Rock had worked more with Sean Williams Scott and not so much with Ryan Reynolds. Well does he work much with Ryan Reynolds except that up in when you had a cameo in Hobbs and sure, I think he's popped up in a couple of other Rock things as a combo maybe, but as a solo. Who do I want to see on the screen more? It's Ryan Reynolds. But how did the public perceive Arnie at this point ninety six. Oh, look, I think he's part of the furniture at this stage. But you're reviewing by this point, right, I was. It was Hollywood like, he's the personification of the studio of studio movies, movie of the put your name on the poster and people will come to see was he was he the top name. I wouldn't say the top was Willis up there probably actually, yeah, because I mean this is around the time of sixth it's post pulp fiction, yeah, pre sixth sense Mageddon. Yeah, yeah, I was actually part of what I was thinking about about that career of Arnold, And it probably can't be spoken about just in isolation of going what happened to Arnold, But this would have been a bit of a changing in the guard of Hollywood in tern of the types of action movies that were being made. That the one man tank was not the m O anymore. It's more like aged team up called big explosions, actions, a lots of stuff, speed, getting a lot of ensembles. And yeah, you're also seeing a newer guards start to come in. I mean, yeah, Keanu obviously, I mean he's got point break at the start of the start of the nineties, Speed in the middle, Will Smith is definitely coming up, and yeah, I think by the time you get to the matrix, Yeah, and you realize, oh, well, okay, we can take an everyday actor like Keano, make him train for six months, you know, and man, we'll do a little bit of wire work as well. I mean, you cannot discount the impact that Asian cinema had on Hollywood filmmaking, particularly in Hollywood action filmmaking. You had a lot of directors like John wu Ringo, Lamb's Choy Hauk coming over and making Hollywood movies. So yeah, I mean, big brawny action vehicles like Arnold and Sylvester's Loan, Bestes and four were becoming kind of dinosaurs, which is you know, I think why Arnold, who's a very very smart man and very very sort of savvy about his image, realized well, I've got to expand a bit. I've got to expand my range such as it is. Eddie Murphy was kind of doing the same thing. I know, he wasn't a big, huge star, but he was doing more comedy family comedies at this point as well. I think when did Dr Doolittle come that was ninety nine. I reckon it was ninety eight or maybe two thousand two of them, right, yeah, yeah, there was a sequel. I would you say that professor was not a professor? Was that? That wasn't a family comedy? Was it? That was still that was still a bit talling? Ye? Yeah, I don't know if it was rated PG thirteen. I don't know if there's many F bombs dropped in or anything like that. I want to say this era of Eddie would this had been Golden Child, and that's late eighties. It was Metro Metros around this time, Metro both thing it was ninety nine. I want to say, oh yeah, yeah, I was gonna say so Metro, like Eddie was still playing in the action pool a little bit. Metro was probably the the top of my head. That might have been the most action, least comedy of an Eddie most reasons performance around this time of year, yeah, around this time of history. Yeah. But I mean when it comes to like jingle all the way, it's like, oh, well, this feels like that you are the kind of thing you could slot anybody in a lot of the comedies that Arnold had made up until this point, well, I mean there aren't that many, but I mean Twins is very dependent on the fact that he looks like Ernold Schwartznegger and his twins played by Dan Kindergarten Cop. It's not necessarily fine. I don't think he's really good in it. And the fact, you know, putting this huge slab of tetotic meat up against these against these little kids is the capacity girl run. It's the jew that's the jaw, And that's where I learned that boys have penises and girls have vaginas. You have to unload. It's twenty twenty three to get bike broke down. And you know, even Junior, to some extenter's like it's he's pregnant. I just I looked at the person and I was like, I can't see this being a good movie. I can't remember as single joke from it. Really. Yeah, I don't think I've bothered to revisit it in the Oh shit, what thirty years it's since it's come out, coming up on thirty years, coming up on thirty years. Yeah, helping you a criterion, Well, when was last Action Hero? That's ninety three, and that was probably, yeah, the first chink in the armor for him really because yeah, I mean he's coming off three two Predator running Man lies true. His post his last action recals ninety Terminator two is ninety two ninety one? Was it? Yeah? Yeah, So I was riding high. And I think they were so confident because I mean, this is, you know, an action comedy from the director of die Hard starring Arnold. I think they put it up against Jurassic Park, and they're pretty confident it's going to go toe to toe with it, and it just got you know, it's asshanded to it. More of it. Was that a comedy more than an action film. But it was breaking the fourth floor kind of, wasn't it breaking it's wall. It's very very usual film. No. I mean the action that it actually is really good because I like it's ambition. I've got a real soft spots actually loves a strong word, but you love when you were a kid, maybe definitely loved it as a kid. I would still I would get entertainment out of watching it. Now it's not going to be I think it would outstay It's welcome if I wore it too often. But I would also if it was like three beers in Oh, You've never seen Last Action Hero and your arm Sworsnegger fans, sit down here, chuck this three stouts in as you rocked up with some stouts. Yeah, but I mean it's one of those movies that you know, a couple of decades down the line, people are going better than you remember. It's yeah, I mean, Mitch is right. It's got a lot of ambition. Yeah, and a lot of really cool looking animated cat a lot of cool in jokes for the movie nerds. So those movies don't never the best alone starring in Terminator. Yeah, like he's walking there a blockbuster and there's a I know the movie for people that have God's going to explaining the movie too. I'm sorry, man, but no explaining to the listeners though for those who haven't seen it, not anymore. We just did. That's fine. I was trying to And then I thought I was so excited this afternoon because I was scanning some old family photos for Christmas presents. Right, I found a photo of me when I would have been about I know, six or seven, in my bedroom with a Last Action Hero cardboard cut out of Arnie, just listening to some Spotify Yea, but yeah, a cardboard cutout of Arnie from Last Action Here I got at school. Mum said she got it from the video store standing up or laying down in bed with you know, he was standing up. I finished my business. Yeah, but I mean, looking at the trailers for this, the promo for it, I don't know. I think even the well, I mean, I don't want to I was in the twenties of this stage, and I'm probably a great Christmas comedy. Was he like at the level where people I feel like the rock now everyone's kind of sick of him verging on it? Quite possibly? Yeah, I think Batman and Robin might have been one of the nails in the coffin for that absolute Is that because of the movie though, or the way he was in that movie? I think just the movie because actually he's one of the best things in it. I watched with Elliott. I'm like, he's actually got some funny like he makes he guess the ship and doesn't make a gold but he makes it work to an extent. Him and Uma Thurman sort of know what movie they're in exactly. Yeah, Clooney and everyone else not so much. The way he says do I say he's he's campy at Ship the Cooler. Yeah, well this is vaudeville, of course. Yeah. Yeah, you're played in the back row. Good on you because Donald's trying to be all serious about Robin in the background. No, forget how moody Chris O'donald was, Oh so moody. I'm like, what are you doing? He sucked in Batman Room. I quite liked him in Batman Forever. Yeah. Yeah, that whole thing with the laundry. I mean the logy was very cool. People meme that and say, oh god, this is so weak. I'm like, what are you kidding? This is dope. Yeah. I love him doing laundry and that remember the laundry six seconds he sort of does some gymnastic tricks to ring out the acrobatic. Yeah, Alfred's just left impressed. Who's this twink master Bruce's new protege, which is one where he gets like attacked by like putty thugs and it's all like Neon and Ship in the alleyway. That is that Forever? Or is that those two Shoemaker Batman movies just merging one. They're all on all the time. I think so much bisexual lighting. Allo Aliott loves them, and that's exactly what those films were supposed to do. That's fine. Yeah, I'm sorry that sounded a really bad. That's fine. Child likes and you would have loved the two when you were a kid, right ah yeah, I assume, like, yes, I remember being I remember enjoying the movie. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I think looking at the at the trailer, for I do think even as a tenure old or whatever, nine year old, I knew that mister Freeze was lame. I actually think that if there's one thing that I had a problem with is that you were talking about vaudeville and playing in the back row. I was sophisticated enough to know that was bad acting, not sophisticated enough to know that it was a form of acting. So for me, I kind of walked away. Oh god, they've really hammed that year old Mitch walks out. Yeah, Like, for me, hammy acting was not not you know, it's a quote or paraphrase because I probably won't get it word for word, but reservoir dogs like you know, if you're not a great actor, you're bullshit or like, yeah, anything short of great acting is bullshit. And I was walking out of there not saying it's bullshita again. I was a kid, but I was like, hmm, well, I don't know how I feel about this. I was just going to say I remember this. This was definitely VHS rental for me. I don't remember it being in the cinemas at all in Australia. I can't recall like it because remember when space came up, kids out, I wouldn't but I don't remember it reviewed it. I don't remember it being a thing we all went to the movies to see Jingle all the way. I remember seeing it at like the video start going ah, it's Almos sports nigger, like if from kindergarten cop. I'll probably liked this movie. But it was one thing I remember when I was a kid, though, was I was always confused how there was never like any Turboman action figures. And I know they did make some apparently that were released in the States, like two hundred thousand units or something, which isn't much when you can see a big movies these days. It was like the Batman and Robin and that we're talking about just then. But it's like for a film that feels like it's based around this toy, they didn't seem to have their shit together when it came to the marketing. I guess that's a victim of the fact that it was stuck together in five weeks and there wasn't enough time. Because I did read that there wasn't enough time to do any tie ins like Space Mpy with the tazos and like Batman Robin did with the McDonald's glasses and things like that, So there was no tie ins. But yeah, you think a film like this was based around his action figure, there would have been more of them, especially when the whole story of the movie is that you can't get this action figure and everybody wants to turb and everyone, all the kids watching it, you would assume would then want one. You would think that, wouldn't you. So yeah, it feels like an absolute case of that's about to say ball dropping. Let's say drop the ball instead. You guys just picked up you phones at the same time, I was looking for the release date, the local the Austranger state the way. Yeah, both Witch and I are just completely bored with what you're saying. I was sending a dick pic to guy. I was like, are they just like having a conversation he had. He had to send it in two stage file too big. The pixel. The pixel has the ability to take a screenshot and scroll at the same time. I know. I was looking up the gross. So sixty million domestic six million, that went twenty yeah back, yeah, but it costs seventy five middle mat and twenty of that goes when that goes to Arnold twenty yeah. Apparently that was twenty yeah. Okay, Like we said, savvy businessman knows he's worth I mean, if we're talking about Arnold and comedy is I was the same before we he called, but he is worth that though, that'd make one hundred twenty one million of volence. Worsneker's not in this movie. Yeah, I'm trying to remember who the first twenty million dollar also man was. Take his salary out. They don't spend fifty five on it if he's not either, Like this movie becomes a fifteen million becomes ing all the way through it to make fifty Yeah. I think the first one may have been Jim Carrey. I think so for cable guy. Was a cable guy was not dumb and dumber earning that much money. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was for cable guys. I know he had a funck left Dom dumber and jeff Eniel's got nothing for it basically compared to not not cable guy money. Well, you get twenty millis for cable guy. Was pretty sure what was because and then everyone says, Carrie's getting twenty million, I want twenty million. Yeah, if he's getting it him the cable guy Jones is like, I can't sanction this before but I mean, yeah, Arnold was already making fairly solid paydays. He was getting a lot of back end money. And yeah, I think I was saying before we started recording about the origins of Twins that he made with Ivan Reidman a genius. He was a genius. He was indeed a genius. Uh how ow Reightman, Arnold and Danny de Vitea owned forty percent of the movie. It's like, we're not going to take any money up front. We will take the bareest amount of money up front. But we owned forty percent of the movie. And I don't say it was one of the best financial decisions ever made, because first of all, it made money at the cinema. It was like, yeah, well we got to cut when they sold it to we got a cut of every big as that sold. We got to cut when they sold a TV to airlines everything. So they're just making money hand over this from it. Yeah, and real Christian Columbus was attached to this as well. Yeah, yeah, the producer, I mean under his fourteen ninety two Pictures name, because that's when Christopher Columbus discovered America, which I think, yeah from us And now everyone's going, yeah, we don't like Christopher Columbus. He was a colonizer and a sex pest. Was really problematic on the set of Home Alone. Yeah, that'll do, thank you, which would also stout fire, but that was going to run. That would have stepped on the story I was about to tell. I so rewatched the original trailer for this. Yeah, from the director of Missus Doubtfire. I was like, that's just straight up lying to the public, like, yes, he's a producer on the movie. But they were from the director of Beethoven and from the director like not brought to you by from the director of Missus Doubtfire. I was. It stopped me in my tracks for a second, was like, Christal Clumbus fucking direct this And then Yeah. That was truthfully, that to me a massive red flag that they knew that they had a piece of shit on their hat. Also the fact that they had to use the home Alone music in this trailer to get people. Did you notice that? Yeah? Yeah, I was like, I was like, that's the that's at one point that did Yes, So they played someone at the very start of this trailer. I'm like, just I can imagine they did that to get people's attention because people would automatically gone home Alone three because you hear that music and you think I'm alone, and you would think, what four years after ninety two may it could have been a home Alone three. Yeah. Anyway, just I just thought it was interested in that because they cuished Columbus, they used show up used a Home Alone because no either movie would have been allowed to use that music, right, I imagine not. But I mean, I don't know. Stuff gets repurposed all the time. There's a lot of stuff by James Horner that gets used in the different trailers of the time. A lot of I need to I've just brought something up. You don't You're just like, I wasn't looking at you when I gave you a second I was trying to get the right way to phrase it, and but you snooze, you lose man. I'm looking at the I'm looking at the box office takes, and there's just a really interesting time of the world that there's a couple of things that happened from one week to the next. So the week that Jingle All the Way comes out debuts at number four, the top five star Trek First Contact with forty three million, Space Jam at number two. Of course it will just Shire twenty two, Ransom at number three, g It back by Jingle all the Way at four, Ransom really stands out there as like in amongst all that dark, gritty thriller about we didn't mention, Gipsy Gibson was still huge and he was, yeah, that's true. Well he's hot off rave part. Yeah. There's a few other like Romeo and Juliet's up there, the English Patriot, the English Patient, Independence stays still floating around. Impossible. Oh yeah. Spoken about the Tom Cruise Factor Top five Action Stars of the ninety five to two thousand era. So Swartznegger would say Sportsnegger, I wouldn't say swartz Nigger ninety five to two thousand no, I would say he's I mean Cruise, Well, Cruise is still just staring that period Gibson, Nicholas, Cage travolt They Volta had broken Arrow General's daughter, which isn't necessarily an action movie more more more a thriller. Yeah, yeah, face off within the cage Brse. Yeah, look, i'd even throw I wouldn't necessarily say Van dam and segoul will Smith. We said Will Smith before he had a few action movies, and that he's ninety six is in Pennance Day and that's the real sort of action movie breakout. Sorry, bad boys, bad boys. Yeah as well. Anyway, Yeah, that digression back to the original aggression. This is the bit that I was curious about, and I don't think this happens very much anymore. Dalmatians one hundred and one Dalmatians. The week that this movie releases opens at I don't know if it opened, but it's had eleven and a half million first week. Yeah, come into the following week, it goes from eleven million to pulling in thirty eight million with a second factors holidays being one. That school is that the movie they had the Tians they had to McDonald's tying. I remember thee hundred one dimations and it had the animated series as well, which helped boost right, and I don't have school holidays. Sorry, I don't know if it was week one week two, but like that, just word of mouth and the fact that you could only see stuff at the movies, like that shit pre Internet world. They opened a movie now and it opened at that level and they were expecting it to be at the other level. Then it's just straight to streaming and pulled out of theaters. Boat yeah, exactly, well right now, it's so weird. I mean I was looking at the top five US box office for the last weekend and it's completely chaotic because I mean, like the top thing is I think the top thing is like a Migazaki movie, like a Japanese animated movie. I think The Boy and the Heron. Yeah, but like Godzilla minus one it was like number three. But you can't go by just box office takings. Now you're gonna go by streaming numbers as well. There's that too, but I mean those numbers are always fun, but it's like if people are paying for it, though, can I get those numbers? You know when you say, like a rental for example, like for example, Barbie. Right, yeah, if it's a rental, they're nice. That's what I'm just saying, because Barbie was available pretty much as soon as the cinema, you know what, I mean, absolutely, But I mean I think it's just kind of unprecedented that at least two Japanese movies are in the top five of the US box office, you know, as as we approach Christmas. The parasite help that you reckon, I think it probably would have opened a lot of people, a lot of the general public eye to subtiple the diversity of Asian cinema, I mean parasites Koreen and probably yeah, thank you for pointing that out. You probably can't a lot of the Miyazaki stuffs on Netflix, isn't it, So his audience has probably grown. Yeah. Plus it's got a really interesting, you know, voice English boys cast. I think Robert Pattinson's one of the leads and as well. I mean not that that necessarily makes a difference, but you know, it just goes to show that theatrical takings are just kind of a wild were straight now, I'm just earner to bring up parasite. Obviously, it was Korean. But it's like subtitle movies. People aren't going to pay to see that shit in ninety ninety six, not a chance, No, not really. I mean you'll have the odd sort of art house sensation run all the run, for instance, but they're not necessarily going to be box office to put money down if I was allowed into the theater. Well that's true for which one, Betty Blue, No, you're right, I don't. I feel like watching movies with subtitles is probably I wouldn't call it mainstream, but it's more palatable, so it doesn't feel odd like once again to the point that I maybe even things like Loopin' or what the money money host money Heist, that is what it's called, Which is the one about the Going Up the Tower? It's that's something. It's basically an action movie going up the Tower. But the great thereat apart. Yeah, yeah, that's fucking amazing. Yes. So yeah, there's been some really popular movies that have broken through, and a lot of those has probably been released in a dubbed version as well. But I'm very much at a point that I hate the dub I would much rather as a squid game. I started watching I watched the first episode, not realizing you could watch it, just just watch it. I was like, what is this yere? And then I obviously went back and watched the original version, yet much better. But so, guys, with jingle all the way, what did you like about the film? Something I dug about it was I don't know. I think it does a pretty good job of capturing like the manic spirit of Christmas consumerism. Yeah, well, this came out just at the same time as the Tickle Me Almo craze. You can remember that, surely the Tickle Me Almo craze of the ninety six I want my sister wanted one, but I remember them just everyone had to have it to me, I reckon my younger brother. Actually, I'm thinking of Ferbi's I don't think they have hadbies were a thing, but the same same kind of deal. Yeah, yeah, I think like Sickle Me Alm, I probably missed this, but yes, you're right, and that same thing. We've all had a thing like that that blew up that everyone Turtle's power angels, that kind of thing. Yeah, and you're right it did sort of capture that's just the chaos of things. Yes, But I mean so I think that's probably, for mine, the best thing about it, because I mean, if you're looking at it with say a wanky critical lie, this movie is basically the equivalent of turmaan Dole. It's something you really dig when you're six years old. You may be forgotten by the time you were eight years old, and then you know, ten years down the line, you go, oh, the toy that I was really cool, so or that was kind of nice. But uh yeah, I think that's what I like about it the most. I mean, it's it's kind of it's clumsy, and it's clunky, but it's also kind of unpretentious. Sorry, that's what sounds really ranky to say that, or pretentious to say that. Chris Chris Columbus has said that he felt the movie was misunderstood because he wanted the film to be a piss take of the commercialization of Christmas, right where people go watched it and went, this is just trying to sell a toy, and he's like, well, no, because we've fucking hardly made any We're meant to be taking the mickey out of movies that do that. But people just seem to not get that. Is that his fault yes, yeah, yes. In short, Chris, I don't think the movie was misunderstood. I just don't think it did a good enough job of hitting that point. Yeah, I would say that. Yeah. I mean I read a bit of stuff about Brian Levant, who directed this, and he was saying, look, I realized, I don't make, you know, movies that make the top ten critics list at the end of the year. But I see a lot of families taking my movies off the shelf at Blockbuster, and that means a great deal to me. So, I mean, this is a workaday guy. Again he started hold money. I found that quote as well, and I love the idea of Brian Levant hanging out in a Blockbuster it and then just a notepad. One. Hey, if you like Problem Child, you might like Problem Child too, directed by one Brian. But I mean this, this is a sitcom guy. This is a guy who sort of got his start on you know, things like Happy Days and Morgan Mindy. I think it was Happy Days, but he certainly got a background that kind of thing, and that that kind of shows. I mean this is not high art or anything like that, but I mean it gets the job done in certain ways. It's got to wake it on at Christmas time and the kids will sit there and watch it. That's correct, while you leave the room and do something else. Stick around. But the thing is, though, with the whole year, don't leave the room, because otherwise you're Howard Langston. Yes, that's right, But the thing is, I feel like this doesn't happen anymore, the whole tick of Melmo craze and furbies and things like that. Two reasons, online shopping and b I just think that manufacturers have just become savvy enough now to understand this movie's design to sell toys. Let's fucking make a lot of them. Yeah, don't don't make me say the line. Line, say the line, but the shoemaker line about you know, yeah, the movies make millions, the toys make billions. Yeah, and yeah, this is where Chris Columbus fumbled. Yeah, I mean, well, is it his fault though, because they gave him five weeks to get it out by no member started filming in April and three of those weeks. Three of those weeks were on the parade scene, so it took two weeks to film the rest of the movie. Parade scenes a long scene it goes for about Yeah, it's half an hour. It's a third of the movie because I initially chose that because when we dissected dicet Hi, we're talking about a particular scene, are chosen a scene, and I was like, I'll choose a prod me that message before I had watched it, and I was like, holy shit, a five hour I rewatched it and I was like, oh, this isn't the scene, it's the movie. But yeah, I enjoyed the film long rivalry between Arnold or Howard and the cop. I thought the cop was played by a man named that's Robert Conrad. Robert we mentioned once upon a time in Hollywood before next thing, you know, you're getting your ass kicked by Bob Conrad and his tape pants. He was hilarious again, I mean, he was sort of like a TV tough guy, his notes, how long he was on various you know, cop shows, Westerns, all that kind of thing. And he's probably in his late six these, maybe even early seventies at this stage. But it's one of those you again, Yeah, it's one of those like you know, like in Flying High, we've got Leslie Nielson and Peter Graves and all those like Robert Stack and all those guys who were in TV cop shows and all that, and they're playing against their image and he's sort of doing that here, and he's been very game with it. I appreciate that he's kind of like, what Ham, it's that kind of beformance called that out of the fire. But I nearly leapt at the table when you brought up Flying High in the same sentence. Is this not you take flying You take my Flying High's name out your goddamn mouse. Apparently that saved their marriage. Ja I went home and smoked a joint and watched the bridges. They went to their separate homes, they got on z they went to the separate wings of the city that they owned. No, Jada Pinker apparently has gone public again, and so I just knew that he loved me. If to be slapp the shit out of Chris Rocket, if you can't take those guys seriously anymore, it's a shame because I'd loved Will Smith and it's just like, yeah, I I mean, look, the the main thing for me from the movie, and it'll be the MVP as well. Not to get in the way of it, but I'm sure it'll be Everyone's MVP is Phil Harty, so we'll say the MVP is Phil. Yeah. There's an amazing quote though that I wanted to like to talk about why I enjoyed him in there. This came from an e W article that I found, but it was really really good about Phil. The last film that was released Wapped. He'll still with us Yadyada from Ken Tucker. His conventional guy's demeanor and deep hearty voice for his secret weapons. With them, he could momentarily full audiences in the thinking he was a straight man, but then he'd cock an eyebrow and give his voice an ironic lilt that delivered a punchline like a fast slider. You barely saw it coming until you started laughing. And I feel like that applies to everything Phil Hartmon has ever done. I think that quote was more around the movie, but that's just his career. That's writing from ten from Aman Kentucker. Yeah, because I mean, I won't say that there was nothing that Phil couldn't do, but I mean it was the Simpsons changed when Phil was no longer, when Lionel Hartson Field like he brought something that they just haven't seemed to be able to recapture. You know, it's a damn shame, but you know so many things about Phil harmon Or. I've got a lot to talk about with the MVP and everything like this. He's just great. Plus, I've chosen the cookie scene. What scene have you chosen for your scene? I've chosen where Howard goes to the Santa Ware with Belushi with James Belushi. Is it's a it's a Red Heat reunion. Yes, And you've gone with which one the last night like the last minute sales pitch the customer number one number one customer? You've got like slash dislikes here. Yeah, I've can't say one more like I like everyone's disdain for Booster. That was actually very fun. They just hated Booster and he was I love that he was a dick as well. So well that that that's Curtis Armstrong Revenge of the Nerds. I was really surprised at that. Yeah, I mean it's been a long time since I've seen Jingle all the way and even the kids just like beat up. That was probably the I would like a whole movie with that kind of tone. That felt sort of Simpson's esque. And yeah, I mean yeah, I mean, if we're going to we'll get into dislikes a little bit later on doing the moment. Yeah, yeah, but I mean but that scene and yeah and that yeah, just everyone's disdained boosters and offering him the booster toy and laughing at his face. By the way, I mean a lot of I wouln't necessarily say cameos, but early appearances by semi familiar faces. One of the one of the guys at that at the First Apartment store, the guy. It's Chris Parnell. He's an SNL cast member. He was on thirty Rock, and he's a voice on Archer Doctor Spaceman, and he did Doctor Spaceman, and he's been a bunch of movies as well. I mean not to draw too long a bow here, but I would say he is almost a worthy success at Phil Hartman, Yeah, I would. He is a guy who looks very straight but has just under and can play very straight and sincere but has underlying weirdness and can also play smarm me very well. Can step into any comic project and deliver as well. Like he's what are they like the thirteen percenters, the guys that improve anything around them by five tool player, perhaps five tool players, A five player. I don't know idea what that is. They can do just a bad anything. Are you trying to sport? Am I trying to support it? He's Timmer tool man, Taylor dislikes. Tell us what you didn't like? Match? I'm sure I'm looking. Look at his list, it's a shindless list. Let I assume guy, that you're going to talk about tone and the inconsistency of tone. I am inde you're gonna talk about I'm gonna let you do that first, and then that'll lead into me. Okay, well, let's bring up how much compared to flying High again? Let's get mied it. They opened this door, they'll never sleep again. Well, I mentioned before when I was talking about my likes, how it captures this manic spirit of your consumerism. Maybe one of my problems with it is that it's not manic enough. I think this, I mean, like my dream version this would be directed by like maybe the likes of Barry Solomon Felm or Joe Dante. You would have a little more sort of Looney Tunes energy to it. It met him black, didn't he? Yeah, he could go the other way about the two guys behind Uncut Gems. Oh my god, the Safeties. Yeah, that was manic. That was that was intense. I needed to have a rest after watching the movie. Yeah, I was exhausted. And then when it I was like, what no spoilers of course recently had someone put Uncut Gems without any idea what it was? That was staying ashes compolution guy guy through ten years on top of me and not and like from Country Australia, not a movie fan. It's like, dam Sad, I don't put that on. And like I saw this look come over his face about two minutes in and I was like, I should warn you this is a pretty intense movie. It's like, is it good? I'm like, it's fucking excellent, but just reset your expectations now I get it. He's dead anyway. Uh yeah, I mean it's cartoonish and it's broad and all that, but it's it's sort of it seems to be operating it like maybe sixty percent. It's not quite manic. I blame Sinbad for this. Simbad's in my dislike I feel like him and Arnold. I just couldn't buy the chemistry I feel like. So there was in my notes, I came across the fact that Joe Pesci was the original for that and some of the speeches that Simbad has felt like Leo Getz, and I was like, oh, man, I could imagine Joe Peshi delivering this dynascene. I would have so much more sympathy for the late look Joe Pesci would give that. Yeah. Yeah, Simbad just never hits well. The other thing is, I mean I think they talk about bo cast sinbad because you know, he would appear more of like an obstacle or a threat. It would make it a match, make the match more either. But then Joe Peshi is not a threat that he doesn't. He does it with his voice, you know, and his eyes, his genuine craziness. Funny. You may well have you may like, but you may well have people going well. So you couldn't get Danny Devita for this role, and they had to get another short going in. You had to get another short Italian. But imagine Joe Peshi in that scene with the clerks laughing in his face. Oh. Absolutely yeah. And the other thing is, you know, at the very end, when it's basically this oh and has nightmare, Sindbad is chasing this kid? What is happening all over the place. If you've got someone who is basically the same size as Jake Lloyd, it's kind of funnier. And looking at this, it's like, well, this is dangerous, you know, and you know, I'm yeah, I'm looking at this chase and this, you know, climbing ladders and falling off buildings and all this kind of stuff. Is like with Peshi, it's more of a cartoon with this, it just seems like you're taking me out of it and all. Yeah, and look, all due respect to Sinbad, which is sorry, not a whole lot, but yeah, you just feel like, okay, Sindbad riff well apparently most of his stuff was in price for his stuff and it felt that way, but I just watched her going. It feels like Joe Peshi, if he was doing this, he would ensure that Arnold was the star of the scene and not him, where Sinbad felt like he was trying to steal the scene every time he was on it. Have you heard the story about the genie movie that Sindbad supposedly starred in, and everybody thinks that there's this genie movie that never happened, that never happened. I have in my I have a memory of this movie. Yeah, it's called Shazam with two a's, but it's not. There's a movie called Kazam with Shackam. But I don't know if someone started, I don't know if someone started as a goof and said, like, hey, remember that nineties movie with Sindbad as the genie. I think it was called Shazam seen the and then what's the courts they called? There is a thing for that. It's called the Men the Mandellar Effect. Yeah, because he's still alive. Yeah, yeah he was. Yeah, yeah, No, Adam Sandley did not. Yeah, but I mean, Sindbad had a run in the nineties. I mean, he was a standing comedian for a while. He was on I think It's on a different world that Cosby spinoff, except then Bill was like, I don't like the way, you know, I would like to talk to you about your stealing scenes from the show. We're canceled at least guys canceled. But you know, I just wasn't a fan of him in this movie. No, I mean, but he had like he was in house guest with Phil Hartman again, like there was a bunch of cheap comedies that came out in the nineties. I mean, we sort of films talk about, Oh no, this was a great renastost and you know, he had these fantastic filmmakers making some of their best work. And you know, you had up and comers like Tarantino and David Fincher and Paul Thomas Anderson. You also had a lot of ship like this. Yeah, so yeah, and yeah, I think you're right. I mean, Sindbad is kind of the weak link in this Simbad's performance in three words, mich erratic did not laugh. I dead on arrival. I had a really hard time watching this movie. And I will send you the unedited I told you before that I was rather than typing notes, so I was just dictating myself. I'll send you some of the I'll send you the raw version. If there's anything in there that you feel that is worthy of chucking onto this when you release it to the patrons, feel free. But I had a really hard time figuring out just who the fuck this movie was for. And weird time, isn't it and the tone and Sinbad plays into that for a lot, like there's there's wacky, goofy elements to this. There's some broad comedy and slapstick. But then at the same time Mickey's Dynasne. What the fuck is that? All? Before I even get there. The first time we're introduced to Symbad, he just chokes a random woman on the street. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. One's like, that's cool, that's cool. Yeah, like that cool it Schwarzenegger with the oh poor baby, like those things were like looking at the camera and hamming it up. But then Phil Hartman's operating on a completely different level, and it's excellent that what he's doing. But as soon as I get to a point where I'm like I can settle in and enjoy this, the movie then changes gears on me again. It takes me somewhere else, and then by the time we come back to Phil Artman, I'm recovering from the last ten minutes. It's very much a sea saw. It didn't need I don't think it needed Simbad in this at all. Really, you could just Arnold just things happening to Arnold. Meanwhile, a threat being that Phil happon was it ted at home? Getting movie? There's one antagonist too many. He's got the cop, he's got Ted at home, and then he's got Ted is enough of a threat. They could have played that off a different way of having a You could have got four or five comedians in but different comic obstacle character. Every single that's a really good been a better way to have rolled that. Have you leaped ahead to changes that you would make. No, I've got a different one for that, and it's going to blow your socks off what I came worrying. So I came away from this movie and like I mean, anything that I do, I come in with an open mind, but I'm trying to review it for the good look for the bad. I didn't laugh at all, like there was. There was a couple of moments I laughed like Ted. I laughed yeah again, Like I said, at most I appreciated what Ted was doing. That's a good basically because it kind of sucked like other things were just not there for me. But the parallel that that I can draw for this movie and I'll draw to another nineties institution. This to me is like Sizzler, where you've got Firstly, it exists for people that don't challenge themselves to be better. Largely that it's it's like you can have your nan and you can have your kid, and you can have your parents, and you can have your cousin and you can all go to the movies and you can all leave and go, well, we saw a movie and like that spent some time together, and and that's what that's where the core memory starts, like Espace there, for example, I have that memory of going to watch it with my mum. You know. Cool. So this is kind of pre the well Toy Story came out of the year before. But I mean Pixar kind of ye. I won't say they masterminded, but it's like, yes, this is a movie you can take your kids to, but you won't be thinking all the time, oh, this is always dead. You're kind of like, hey, the this Toy Story movie is not bad. Hey, I'm kind of into the story about the bugs. You know. It's this you're kind of going, Schwartzenegger is the steak at a Sizzler. So you go to Sizzler and you can have like I'm gonna order my protein. That'll be like my twenty bucks and then I'll play pay my bit extra for the what's the Wen Salid buffet though solid bar, that's that's name, So you could you could go to Sizzla and just go, I'm gonna have the buffet, but if you want a steak, that's a separate charge. Yeah, And that is like, he's our twenty million dollars for the star and that's why people are coming to the movie. And it's equally you get the steak at Sizzler because you're like, oh, well, at least there's steak. I've seen steak. Steak's been good at other player. I've had steak before, Steak was awesome, and then the Sizzler steak comes out and you're like, this is like a fucking imitation of what steak used to be. And that is very much Arnold in this movie. He's playing weirdly to type and against type at the same time. I read that he took this role because he wanted to be in Everyman, and apparently his version of an every man is a fucking multimillion dollar mattress sales and that can single handedly pick up two as attendance at the same time with his left and right arm, but not kick Sinbad's ass in a fight. Like there's there's weird shit going on with what Schwarzenegger can or can't do. You can't bench press your way out of this, But he's in every Man who Doesn't bench press and fight like what that? And then everyone else in this movie is that all you can eat salad bar where they're all next to each other. They've got no fucking business being together, and none of them are doing the same thing. You've got, like spicy meatballs sitting next to lentils like it just no one's on the same page. It all gets slopped together on a plate, and all you left with at the end of the day is regret and a little bit of a feeling like you've been sitting for not enough time and too much time. At the same time, I'm wondering when it was that Arnold. I mean, I'm trying to think of any sort of any other every man rolls that he took True Lies. True Lies is kind of he's a copy kid again. But even then, it's kind of the joke that, yeah, you know, Harry Tasker and True Lies is like I am just a muck and mild computer salesman. Yeah, b ib ib okay, right there are alive people. We're going to edit this bit out of the actual show. Okay, hopefully enough, you know, sctillating content. When would he Yeah, has he done anything else that's even come close to playing in every Person? I mean we mentioned, we mentioned his sort of late nineties early two thousand's run, sort of an every man in Collateral Damage. He's sort of an every man in the Sixth Day, that cloning one. Yeah, kind of yeah, But I mean he's not playing Hi, I'm Dutch super soldier. It's me versus the Predator, John Matrix and Commando or a terminator or something like that. The thing I'm spanted to, it could never possibly try to be in every Man is so far humble upbringing, like yeah, absolutely came came from very little, but from teen years like he was all ready, He's been incredibly driven. He's a soldier, he's different to anyone else on the planet. He then explodes into a movie star almost instantly. He's dating Kennedy's like he's just there is nothing even remotely regular. The idea that he was like, that's what I want to do makes as much sense as me wanting to be like wanting to play a three time or a six time mister Olympia. That's the thing. If he's he is a savvy person, I'm wonder if he's sort of seeing which way the wind is blowing. He's seeing that people like Tianu Reeves in Speed, who was not necessarily a superman people. He saw that Tom Cruise was sort of like starting a muscle into the action genre. And I mean Cruise is probably the savviest person in Hollywood in the last fifty years. So he's thinking, oh, maybe larger than life isn't cutting it anymore. Maybe people want more relatable. So you know, I'll take a stab at that stab what you get? His jingle all the way. The difficult The thing that you cannot get around with him is the speech delivery, and not not in the It's not about making fun of the different tho like poor baby camera so faked. Then this is just a thing of having such a thick accent and having English be a second language. And sure he speaks very very well. He's a very intelligent guy, but you can't pass off as an every man when you sound robotic when you're delivering some like a foreign tongue. Plus he was the terminator and it's impossible to become an every minute after you've been the terminator, right. I kind of didn't mind the poor baby thing. I didn't mind all the Really, there were some quips I thought he nailed pretty well. I was thought poor baby it was one of those ones. I was like, Ah, it felt like for me, that's one for the trailer. It's not. It's never been my style of comedy when someone looks at the cameras to deliver the joke other than Ted Striker and flying high looking down the saying what a pissle? All right, guys, That about wraps up this little sneak peak of jingle all the way. Hope you enjoy that and enjoyed it enough to want to support us from Patreon and get access to the full episode.
