And I think the biggest thing is the Blue Jays are finally starting to play up to the potential that we have all said that they've had for years. And you know, Bow's swinging it good body swinging at Springer's back. So they're playing well and they're pitching has always been pretty good when they figure out the bullpen in Hoffman going over there has really solidified late innings for them.

Let's get to some breaking news today. Charge about So the Cleveland Guardians picked up Luis Ortiz in the off season and he's given them almost ninety innings a valuable starter. It's not super effective innings low for Zra, but he's eating innings for a Cleveland team that has and treading water. They're forty and forty four. Here's the news portion of it, non disciplinary paid leave. The Guardians put out a statement this morning, and then Ken Rosenthal and the crew over at the Athletic is all over the story. Here's Ken specifically saying that he's been placed on leave due to MLB betting investigation. So there is a probe going on right now. You will not see or tease through the end of the All Star break. So it's paid leave while they see what's going on. And Ken, I was just on with him, wanted me to remind everyone that there is a chance that there is nothing to see here, but it is serious enough that he is sitting out now. Remember last year MLB banned San Diego Padres, infielder and utility guy who had bounced around a little bit to Competa Marcana for life for betting on his own team, and the league also suspended four other players for a year for betting on baseball MLB Onpirepat Hoberg was fired earlier this year after it was learned that he shared sports betting accounts with a friend who bet on baseball games. This would be the highest profile case. It's not a household name, but aj I mean, he's an effective starter, twenty six years old, coming over from the Pirates and contributing to the Guardians this year. Again, I don't want to speculate. This could be absolutely nothing, but we at least know that there is a probe going on and the investigation is related to gambling of some form.

This player might not be convicted of anything according to MLB's mini court that they play, but it is worth the conversation because we did have situations like this pop up last year. We've had this situation pop up in other sports. I've got two questions for youcrats. One is do you think that leagues need to do a better job not just of education, but of preventing problems from happening. So here's one idea I came up with this morning. You have to sign up on the apps and give quite a bit of information. There is enough technology out there to be able to isolate certain phones or accounts. So I know that players are allowed to bet on other sports. If you're a baseball player, you can bet on football on the app. Stuff like that. Should we just say, hey, during your playing career, you can't bet on any sports and just wipe the fact that you can't even have an app on there and you're not even allowed to sign up, then you would be resorting back to if you are gambling, the illegal gambling that's been going on for decades and decades, which was part of why regulation occurred, which is also why we're catching more people. These people in the past that did things like this, we're still able to place bets, right I've got friends who've bet, who've plays bets for twenty years on apps and they never got caught. Players I'm talking about there are definitely players out there who did bad things and there was no way to regulate it because it was an underground situation and most of that money was being funneled illegally or all of it was so anyway, Krat's thoughts on how we can better prevent situations like this from popping up for players.

They'll go to illegal sites, illegal bookmakers, all that stuff that will end up getting them in trouble because they're going to be they're going to be connected to bed people or people that will get put them down the wrong path. To me, all of these sites have. I don't know. We don't know louis this situation. We don't know what happened, But I know some of the other ones, you know, kind of tied to the player. We need to educate the player a little bit better because this is a huge thing. You can't just read I forget what it is. Rule forty one or whatever it is. We've read it every spring training and I still forget what the rule number. We can't just read it. We have to make sure everybody understands what that means. You sign up for an account, you are now connected to the gambling site that has an opportunity to give you the risk of clicking on the baseball side of it. To me, the second part of it is all these teams have connections with all these different sites. Each team has a different connection to different sites. You get an account as a player, the team then connects you with said site, and they can just eliminate the baseball portion of it. No way you could possibly from your account. Anybody else could hack it, anybody else could use it anything bet on baseball. If we're not willing to take that extreme of an effort, then we just can't have players gamble but then I think that just means you know, they're going to find other ways to do it in other sports, you can't.

We have more on the investigation with Major League Baseball looking into Luis Ortiz, the Guardian's right handed pitcher. He is being looked at for two individual pitches, one on June fifteenth, another on June twenty seventh. They were flagged by a betting integrity firm. So they have firms like this that look into anything suspicion. And I don't have the rest of the details because we're on the show right now, but Aja, I will speculate a little bit. If you're looking at those two pitches, you can live bet on what a pitch is going to look like to start an inning, and it looks like it was those two pitches to start an inning. I think they were both pitches that were way off the plate. And what can happen here just knowing how these firms work is they can find out if there's been heavy, heavy activity on something like that, it's suspicious, and then you can start a real investigation. Here's the two pitches. Not very competitive to start innings.

Now listen, this is not him gambling on baseball like we talked about, like where he's betting on his team. This would fall into like the integrity of the game. Where basically somebody he told someone, Hey, on the second inning, I'm gonna throw a ball first pitch, and dit a bet on it. And that's what it looks like. They're trying to see if that's what happened, not seeing it happen, but that's kind of what they're looking at. It's and if it's a live betting, this is where what can happen. And that's why baseball is trying to curtail the betting on baseball and every other sport because you don't want to question the integrity of the game.

There was a lot placed on that individual pitch, so who knows. And this is not another thing. I think people need to understand. This is not a Major League Baseball thing, Like Major League Baseball is not covering this up, like this is an investigation outside of Major League Baseball. They're just placing him on leave right now until it is cleared up.

We've caught some people in college baseball doing things where they're like, why is this random midweek college baseball game getting so much handle. That's how things get flagged. And sometimes there are people that are really smart and they try to spread it out across a number of books, and then you have these integrity firms that have all of the books working together, or they at least have access, and that's how you're able to look at this as an investigation both for a league, and this stuff can turn into criminal investigations as well. Keep all of that in mind.

We used to have a meeting in spring training with Michael Frances He was a mafia guy, right, and he would come in and talk about how they used to get guys to throw games or set up games or whatever, rig games, whatever it was. And you'd be like, if someone approaches you about this, don't do it, say no, do not get involved in this. You know, don't bet, and then you owe money and then they come to you and say, hey, let's set up this game, you know. And it was there was a basketball team whatever, Boston College. I think that they did whatever. I mean, there's once people get behind the eight ball with money or whatever it is, and then they will got to catch you up. You know that if it's illegal or even legal, Hey I got to make money fast boom. But it's not the way to go. Don't try it. And but the MLB used to have it. Mafia guy come in and talk to us about this too, and they told us this is something I think some guys forget. If anybody ever approaches you as a player about this, just tell somebody or else you don't tell them, you can be considered liable. Like it's just it's it's saving just.

They're not really throwing it out there a lot. That's the culture they have, so that's the way they work. They won a couple of years ago. It hasn't worked last year, it hasn't worked so far this year. But every team is different. Kevin went in with one thought, it was a different way. But how do you assimilate everybody into this group? You can't fake it. I've never been on a losing team or a five hundred team that was like, man, that was just the best group of guys I've ever been a part of. Like, no, you have a better time winning, and they weren't winning. And KP was just telling you what he felt. He saw some pretty brutal like togetherness teams with the Blue Jays early and then they all started coming together in fifteen sixteen they started being playoff teams. He saw it with the Braves. He mentioned it there. That's how you win, you bring everybody and everybody feels like they're a part of it, and he didn't feel like they're a part of it. Don't about Sea Why's comments. I think it's like, you know, maybe it's something that see Why hasn't seen, or maybe he has seen it and he didn't want to say no, that's not how it is here because maybe he knows it's true.
