#187 - Famous Songs that Peaked At No. 2 and the Songs That Kept Them Out

Speaker 1: Alright, so we're about to get into a Bobby cast. It's rare that I have to come on and warn you about explicit language because it's not for me. And I don't curse and Mike Deep relating curse um, which, by the way, this sounds like I recommend a podcast to you which is not on the Nashville Podcast Network. But what's that music podcast? I like dis Graceland disgrace Land. It's so good. And sometimes he comes on and goes, hey, it's a tough one to listen. He's like, there's violence, and uh, there's it's sexual nature and it's tough. And then it's like, and now let's talk about James Brown. It's a fantastic podcast, not on the Nashville Podcast Network, but just one that I love. Some great episodes, Yeah, some really good ones. Um so I'm an a free plug there. But that's what he doesn't something his did you ever hear the rapper one about the guy the cannibal, the cannibal cannibal rapper. Good God, that one gets graphic. It's crazy. Um. Okay, so we do later on in this play a movie scene and then the movie scene. There are a lot of F words, and so just a heads up that inside of a clip you're gonna hear I don't know how far into it, but it has to do with eminem. I don't want to spoil the episode, but you'll hear the F word a lot. And so if you have a baby years, yeah, maybe it's not for you, but it's only real, it's only time. But I listen. I loved it. I loved it all right, So here you go. We're about to get into episode one of the seven. It's music podcasts. Songs that peaked at number two episode seven check out Get Real with Caroline Hobby. Speaking of good podcasts, she has a great one. A lot of the wives of country music stars given a different perspective on on even the country music star himself. But mostly she's talking to just strong women, some of them just having to wives of country music stars. Uh. Some of the country starts probably wouldn't be couting music stars without their strong wives. Um and and Also, it's not all just country music. Wives think Katie Cook from CMT is a really good one where she's telling crazy awesome stories from I think her twenty years at CMT. So check out Get Real with Caroline Hobby and Amy's podcast Four Things with Amy Brown. It's quite amazing and I think we'll leave it at that for now. Here you go, here's the next episode of the Bobby Cast. Welcome to Episode one, eighties seven, and it would be a musical history podcast as something interesting songs that peaked at number two and not just that, which I do think is interesting, but a Mike added wrinkle, songs that kept them out because I reached out. I was like, hey, let's do songs that peaked at number two. Um, because a lot of times we talked about on this podcast with a lot of the songwriters artists, oh man, the big song but only got to two or three, So we should do the whole podcast about that. And then you said, yeah, but we also will put the songs in that kept them out, Like, I think it's very interesting, So we'll do some of that country and pop, some songs that famously peaked at number two and they were so close to be a number one, but there was either a song that was just dumb nating in front of them or a song that shot up behind them to take number one. Dustin Lynch within recently and we're talking to him about cowboys and Angels singing, which is you know, until small Town Boy was his career song and as his first song, but he just could not hit number one as big as this song was because there was an even bigger song from a slightly more established artist, Jason al Dean, who had taken a Little Ride Little. That's the one, a pretty recent one, and check out the Dustal Lunch Bobby cast. But that's one we're talking about there. So we're gonna start back, and these are some big famous songs. Again they only peaked at number two, and we'll start with Elvis En sixty two. Can't Help Falling in Love was not a number one song. This is one of the most famous songs, one of his was commercially successful songs, but it never actually hit the top of the charts. It's stayed at number two behind one of my favorite bands of all time, Joey d and the Star Lighters is their name, and a song called Peppermint twist. I never heard the song, never heard it before that. Yeah, it's like to get up before the get up with it. It was like Nati sink persionally get up. It really is like a Cupid shuffle to get the peppermint twist that kept Elvis Presley out of the number one spot nineteen sixty two. Also in that year, nineteen six two, Patsy clin Crazy not just even her most iconic song, but really one of the most iconic songs in country music history. And I would say even outside of country music, this is so big. It was beaten by a doo wop group, the Marcel's. And here's a song that was number one that kept Petsick Patti Lane out here is Heartaches by the Marcel's. Never heard that one. And I love the oldies channel. When I was at Costing a lot of oldies, you know. When I was twelve or so, my mom remarried and she got with my stepdad. We listen to Cool nine all the time, and so this fifties and sixties and it's really how I got in a classic rock too. But I never heard this song. I've heard the Marcels this song. Yeah, what else did the Marcel's have if you search them up, what's their number one streamed? The song it better be good. Let's see it is? Oh yeah, blue Moon. That's blue Moon, Blue Blue, Dang and dang dang blue Yeah. Mean what movie is from Back to the Future? Is it in Back to the Future. It's in one of those where it's like the song that's playing in the background and there's a big romantic scene happening. Yeah. But it wasn't even this song that you've had to going out. It was the one we've never heard of called heart Aches. Kenney. Chesney had back to back number two songs, which is pretty crazy. Big Star, Big Star Nana Jones sang Cary Ulky every night March of two thousand three, and it did not hit number one because have You Forgotten by Darryl Worley was in the number one spot that day see you Oh, it's a nine eleven song. That would be why interesting because this song, Darrell Worley's song doesn't get played ever and that but that's why it was such a time time sensitive song. How about that? And you say, worry bad if you forgot? You know, I was watching maybe it was CNN one of them when they do those decades. And I was watching the whole thing about music that happened after nine eleven, and you know, they talked about Toby Keith. They talked about that song too, and how country music was really the genre that put out a lot of the music that was like, yo, we love America, whereas a lot of the other formats didn't as much. And they featured that song. Now that you mentioned that, Kenny Chesney also had another number two songs, which, by the way, is a massive song. Here is no Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems, No Shoes, no Shirt No. This is later in the same year. By the way, Kenny's got another number. He was waiting to go number one, and it wasn't a nine eleven song that was blocking them out. It was another like no Shoes, no Shirt, no Problem song. It was It's five o'clock somewhere from Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett. So another beat song, strong cane before and each song half last all care It's five o'clock something. In two thousand five, sugar Land had Baby Girl, and this is, by the way, they were still a trio at this time. And now you may know Sugar Land because it's Christian Bush and Jennifer Needdles. But the trio of Christian Kirsten and Jennifer Neddles, they never made its number one with baby Girl, and it's still a favorite. I still love that song, Donthimes. Christian will playing songwriter around and I'll get I'll play with him before, and he played this, but he'll play when he sings that he does, it's so good too. It was beat out by That's what I love about Sundays from Craig Morgan. Sundays sing along as a choir sways every burse of amazing Grays and then we shake the reacher's hands, go home and to you blue jeans, have some chicken and some baked bee, take them back yard football. I like that song. It's crazy that that one beat out that sugar Land song because I think the sugar Land songs had longer legs, don't you think so people still know it. Maybe because sugar Land get to be massive and so their songs seem a bit more massive. We'll go to two thousand nine now as a pop song, Lady A had crossed Over and Need You Now was number one country for four weeks, but it crossed over to pop and it was so massive, but it was at number one. It was a number two songs for two weeks, and it was actually beat out by two songs. So here's need You now. By the way, I woul recommend going to listen to that. Dave Haywood podcast is a good one because he does talk about the story about how one they almost didn't cut the song. Two they didn't want it early as a single, and I think in the end the album and I'd been named at too right, like it's just a thing on their iPhone they had recorded. They're like, hey, let's use that song. Yeah, So this is the number two songs for two weeks on the pop charts. Two songs blocked it out, Tyle Cruz, break your Heart, You're playing Joe, I'm only gonna break back face. I don't, I don't know listen forever. I know. This is like when I first started in Turning for Young, played like every single hour Boy this one not did not hold up well though, and then Rude Boy by Rihanna This is the dam though, don't remembering it up tonight, I'm gonna be captain. Let's look up how tall Rihanna is well, you might remember meeting her whenever she was just starting I eddit read too. She's the richest female on the music now, Um, maybe she made more last year than anybody else, because I can't imagine that she has more money than Taylor Swift. But she's got to be at least five eight or five nine, right, Okay, because in Hills she was as tall as I was, and I was like, man, Rihanna is tall. And google that story and Seaworth's Rihanna richest. Just see what comes up? Six hundred million dollar fortune? She has six her Oh, she maybe just the richest period. Then yeah, what is it? Is there a news story recently that came out about that. There was a four article And what does it say how she became the world's richest female musician more so than Taylor? Yeah, because she has like that whole fashion line. Now she hasn't put it out of music in a while. Google Taylor's net worth. I want to say, it's like, not thousand millions, it is I'm stunned that Rihanna has more money than Taylor. Wow, almost double and again probably not totally accurate. Whenever you google someone's net worth. You gotta understand they don't know what people are making really unless the person has done an interview with Forbes and has actually talked about how they have their money and what they've might like. They may own seventeen Papa John's in sixty three Burger joints and they're making a ton of money off that, but you don't know that they may have invested wisely. Um have some friends that are athletes that you look them up and you go, oh, they're worth a couple of million bucks. But what they did with that money when they first got it is they invested into some crazy good stuff and that's what they made more money doing that than what they did actually playing ball. But are you surprised men have more money to Taylor? That is pretty surprising. And that's a lot of money. Oh, it's the level of its like you don't even know what money is anymore, meaning I don't think it factors into your life. If you have half a billion dollars, you probably just come and go as you please. Yeah, she has more money than Madonna, Celine Dion and Beyonce, and you do what you please. You don't look at price tags and if you want a house, he'd probably just go buy the house. Did you need story about Aaron Spellings mansion up for sale? Is it like a hundred million dollars? It's a house for a hundred million dollars. And really, if Rihanna wanted it, should go buy it. By It's like me buying skittles walking out of Target. That's what the house is. Geez Songs at number two Luke Brian That's My kind of Night went number two in two thousand thirteen on the country chart on the Planet Yourself a Little Definis and it never hit number one because a brand new artist had a first one of his career, and it was Thomas Rhett goes like this and this song reminds him moving to Nashville. Man, do you want to hear yet? Well? I was. This is right because we we moved here in like I consider April one of any year to be kind of our anniversary. I think we we actually moved here in late February, and I was living in a close where I lived now, I was living in a tiny corporate apartment. It was already furnished, and it was one tiny bedroom, a tiny kitchen, and like a half of a living room, but at the furniture, and I didn't honestly, I didn't need any more space. And so it was freezing cold. It was winter this February in Nashville, and I was like, what did I just get myself into. Didn't know anybody here except for my friends, who also didn't know anybody here, but they were all adjusting to their lives with people. Meaning Amy had a husband there are figuring it out, um lunchboxes be kind of bouncing back and forth. He had a girlfriend, which I don't even know if they were engaged. Yeah, yeah, Eddie and his wife at kids and they were all trying to get over here, and I was just up at that radio station like fourteen hours a day every day, trying to get ready for the show. And I was like, man, I remember thinking this shows either going to be the greatest thing to happen or the worst thing to happen. And I think people still are having that debate about our show, but I was like, man, I feel like we can really do some damage here in a good way. Liked be the first show that doesn't come on. And I remember CBS UM this morning coming to do a story. They were like the first country DJ who doesn't wear a cowboy hat or a belt buckle or own cowboy boots. And that was my That was the whole rap they gave me for like the first two years. That's never even a thing anymore. Like he doesn't even get mentioned anymore. Right, No, you don't wear cowboy but I never because I don't think m First of all, you have to our audience on the radio is probably female. Mill Um and I say most of our female are most of listened every morning I wearing cowboy boots. I think most of the the doods the listen are wearing cowboy boots every day. But I think there's a kind of a need to overlook the part, like to be a character of some sort. I feel like you're in country, you gotta be extra country, cowboy hat, all of it, because there are those guys and sometimes they turn into that guy. Sometimes they are that guy. Sometimes they turn into that guy. And I was like, I'm never going to turn into something I'm not. I remember the first time I played hip hop on the radio, I thought he thought the world was in We did the Friday morning Dance Party and I played some biggie and and every program director called at the same time it piste off um, that has a fun time. Two thousand thirteen, when we came to town, I was like, man, here goes nothing, a little big town. In two thousand and fourteen, I went to number two with Day Drinking All Day. I remember this album came out. I was with him when the record came out in New York. That's where I found Girl Crushed because the girl Cusk was in a single and this song was going for number one. It didn't get it, and I played Girl Crushed and then that the whole rest of that story's history. But that song Day Drink at number two was beat out by Keith Urban's Somewhere in My Car and Somewhere in My Car Never lead it up Swaying Street Sheet Song, which one of those things held up more? Okay, probably keep Caban, do you think so? I do think it's close, though, like I had to think about it, I'd probably lean Keith Urban as well, but you could convince me otherwise. I bet that's still a big one for a little big town. On their shows. By the way, they release Girl Crushed next, and with all the massive success that I had, it peaked at number three only, and that's because some stations just wouldn't play it. When you're not getting some spins somewhere, it can actually affect the bottom line. In the end, song only had number three, but was is their biggest song? Like make No Mistake, that's their biggest song. Regardless of to one, it doesn't matter. And by the way, if you write a song and country music really speaking INtime, it's five three to one and pretty much makes same amount of money. There are cases where that's not the case for like the songwriter in the publishing, but for the most part, top five hits that that level of spins generally they make the same amount of money. I thought there was like a bonus if you hit number one. No, there is no bonus. You don't get an Employee of the month Tim McGraw. That was a fourteen. Meanwhile, back up honest number two most song and if you want to stuffers on the stoves in the bridge. So I'm speaking out games on the tunes and Dead Smoke sigarttes Whisky Wisp with funny single do we know? Oh is this? Yeah? I look at that? That was blocked out into thousand four team by Luke Bryant's play it again, unasking the same, which one do you think it's bigger? Right now, I'd say Tim McGraw. Oh, I'd probably lean Luke for this song. Really yeah, it's close. So because Luke has actually had more number one in a recent time that Tim has, So maybe you could say that that's why the Tim song sticks out for him a little more. Yeah. I feel like when I look at his list of songs, that was like, oh yeah, I remember that one. Two thousand and sixteen, Sam Hunt hit number two with break Up in a Small Town and this song. I remember Sam came in and played at acoustic once and everything everyone thought then he was like he's messing up because he was talking. He could be like yeah, yeah, I went down the street and and he starts singing. But I remember the first time he came in, because we were pretty early on Sam. I'd be a big Sam fans and he would come in and I believe they're talking right in this song yeah yeah, where he's like yeah, and then she's down on the streets she ran to stop signing. Also, you get pulled over and he starts singing, and uh, you're all up. Play for the second for a while, I guess yeah. And so whenever he did this, when he was playing it live the first time, before the song had come out, we all thought he messed up and was like talking to it. We were like, and then he goes singing again, We're like, oh, that's interesting. He was playing at David Buster Sam Boys, and ray Mundo was introducing him, and Raymondo fell out the stage. Sam Sam is just a guy trying to make it And Raymundo was introducing Sam Hunt at David Busters and Raymundo fell off the stage. And that was the big story of that show, not that it was Sam and Sam blew up, but it was at Raymundo fell off the stage. The song went number two. It was blocked out by Home Alone Tonight from Luke and Caring fair Child shot until we do what we change alright, Mike, Which one of these Oh Sam Hunt, Yeah, Sam Hunt for sure a night we won't get it. Put your drained down to York camera, snap a playback, Cancher, I'll send you two nights and send him up the text saying we ain't to get That's a good one. And I think that was just really Luke being just a massive superstar more so than that song being a better song. I think when Sam still plays break Up in a small Town, the place goes night. Yeah, I don't even know. If I don't know Luke's that list, I don't know if Luke plays that song and his shows, and if so, who did you sing it with? You know it's that kind of thing. Devin Dawson All on Me in eighteen Call on Me You a Little went number two. Can dig it out on me? What it going at it? It's funny because the last three of these have been either Luke being number two or Luke blocking and this is another Luke one. So Devin Dawson went number two last year with his debut single All on Me. He was beat out by Luke Bryan. Most people are good. I believe most people are good and most moments on a qualified for saying this is not even a question. This Luke song is still masking better under Knee on her Stadium Life. I believe your love, whom you love, ain't nothing you should ever be ashamed of. I believe this world ain't half this bet is it looks be most people go over to the pop world. Uh, these are all number two songs that we're beat out. I just never hit number one. Missy Elliott. Work at two thousand two, by the way, has the record for the most weeks at number two. It was a number two for ten weeks. That's the record for the longest running number two that never hit number one in the history of the Billboard had one hundred. It was blocked by Eminem's Lose Yourself. God what a time two all time songs. First of all, when work It came out, I remember being two thousand two college people being like, fam but I don't think, not even know when I don't even know that I knew what that minute first. But what it is is when she goes take a flip it round, reverse it. That's just then she just does that with that lyric, right, just put me down and then put my thing, plump it down reverse, That's all that is, just flipped around. Remember, I was like, oh my god, what is she saying? Is she's talking to Satan? Is it? But yeah, that I mean that song was the jam and then Eminem freaking Lose Yourself the movie in college. We should just turn on and watch the final scene or be Rabbit goes I'll take me down. There's no need for you to do that. Yeah, great movie. I wonder if it holds up. Like te met the other day, I didn't watch the whole thing, but I don't get the hold up. And then it gets another question, as does it still hold up because we liked it then probably and if someone watched it today, would it still hold up. I don't feel like the movie you go back really and tell people about like I made. I put it on the Eddie's List. I was like, dude, watch it's one of the greatest. The final scene. I was with that Jared my trainer the other day and he starts like quoting be Rabbit's final rap. Can you pull that up on YouTube? I remember going a watch and we were like, man, Eminem is in a movie with this. It's it's like a semi biographical pick, so not a full bio pick, but it's like roughly Eminem's lives and so in the final scene, not to spoil it, I mean, I guess I can. It's from two thousand two. You've seen it by now, it's seventeen years old. Um, Eminem is battling it out Clarence. Is that the guy's name. I think so, because Clarence is a guy two loving parents, maybe something like I don't have anything in front of me. I'm just trying to remember the rhyme. But at the end it's like, uh, I think the guy's name is Clarence. It's not his real name. His real name is Clarence. That's not his rapper name. But this is him in the final scene designed to going on himself. Everybody's nobody stands up noticed it because may you not have his name? Not w cat you can't now who's the blame? To the big mad boy by two three and to the four one plock two clock street hot four greekock two blocks one, don't block, he's plot no plot name. The motherfucker hen't see. I'm the very thing. Two thousand two is still and maybe it's like all that time comes rushing back when but that's that's such a final way as it's a great scene. I forgot the guy who's battling against is now the guy in Captain America. That's that dude. Wow, I just recognized. I remember his name was Clarence Clarens got real good parents. It's marriage guy. Yeah, we were just talking about that movie of the day that a mile alright, and that was just the movie in two thousands. I think it does all look listen to it. You think it was cool that you have Clarences final battle. I think that's just the clip up there. If you don't, that's all right. I don't even remember what Clarences was if or if he even did anything, because maybe on like Eminem was so hard like on himself and they couldn't do it, and a little bit I was like, that's what that's what I should do, so I and then I started thinking of the battle rapper for a minute. So it's like challenging people to everybody did that probably probably remember freestyling and like parking lots, like yeah, God, we were such a losers, but we should have been. That's part of it. Is there a final sting I am off scene for him a battles? I think it might be start for eight miles. A mile reminds me of like going to watch that's the sixth cents that are on the same time, I think so the same couple of years two thousands, yeah, um well yeah, Lose your Stuff came out and I was working on the radio. I was twenty two years old, and I played Lose Yourself and I'd play it every thirty minutes on a pop station, and people would want to hear more ye six cents with ninety nine, So a few years before I would I would play there. Only there are only a few songs in my radio career that I it wasn't possible to overplay like I would play it and people will go, oh, I don't you just played it? Where you played again? Because most songs get played too much. And what I mean by that is people go, man, and here this song called all the time, and I guess that I give you, guys the inside inside baseball of that is um and and things at times are changing now. But the average listener, let's say, listen for eighteen minutes or twenty two minutes, depending on what you read when you read it, um in that eight t two minutes, that when here the biggest hits. And so if you do listen for more than that, you're actually gonna hear the biggest that's a couple of times, probably because most people are only listening for that short amount of time. So what you want to do is get the hits into that eighteen to twenty two minutes. And so that's why you know once every hour and fifteen minutes you would hear a song or so. So if you listen for a long time, you heard the same song twice in an hour and sixteen minutes even and so. But there are a few songs in my radio career, and Lose Yourself as one of them where people just could not get enough of it. It would end and we played again and forever. And it's part of a movie, which is a weird thing too, because now you don't get a lot of songs parts of movies or they're like part of movies, and that's kind of phasing out. Like I think that's something I'm talking about too. Um, the other songs real quick that I remember being so big that people couldn't get enough of it, Uh fifty cent in the club when it came out, and I will play that while it was playing. People would call while it was on asked me to play it again, like they would hear Boom doom, go go go, and we play it's literally on right now. Yeah, we played again as soon as you can. But why don't you just listen to it right now? This songs just unlike any song like straight yeah, they they just switch out the chorus, Um, I say, unlike any song as I'm gonna be four or five songs, unlike almost every song Genie in a Bottle from Christine Aguilera when that came out and I was young, I was a teenager, but I remember playing that one and that boom boom and right here and and people will be like, oh, I'll play that, play up Genie song, Genie song. I'd be like, all right, and the phone line. It's the time when people called radio stations, and they still do, but now they call us a talk on the radio more to other request songs. Um, there were every phone called me. We would play Genie song. We played Christina aguile Area Genie song, and I'd be like, all right, yeah, that was a jam. Um what other song has been in that category? Probably Bye Bye Bye from in Sync whenever that record came out, that whole and I believe that's from No Strength Attached You may yeah, I don't know if any fact checked on that or not. But when this song came out crazy, You know a lot of this when I was still doing music, so I was, you know, just talking in between records, but yeah, boy, this one was freaking hu mongus. Oh I'm doing to night. Um Okay, moving on here. That's a fun little um marshmallow and the still had happier I've been. I've been thinking, I want you to be happy. I want to be when the morning comes. Number two. It was blocked out last year by seven rings, but Ariana Grande, which stayed number one for seven weeks and it was never able to take the top spot because Ariana Grande for seven weeks. Yes, this stump those thought which, by the way, she didn't get much rider credit on this. Like Hammerstein in Ballroom or whatever whatever their names are, Martin and Hammerstein, I should know that. Would you mind looking at that for me? Just so we can say it, so I gonna get a tweet from someone wage bag, I would say, if I'm guessing it's Hammerstein, thanks just Hammerstein and Martin and Hammerstein, because they was they did. These are my favorite things. You need to google that friends, much to my friend or roundation deeacups and bats and Rogers Rogers. S's an idiot, all right? Bebe Rexa on the pop chart meant to be two thousand eighteen at number two, spent three weeks at number two because this and it was a jam, it would number one a country. But this was the number two pop song UM last year and was there and it's because God's plan. God's plan was there for eleven weeks. May relax, get your pretty feet upon my dash. Wow. You know what, I've never heard her sing this part. I've only ever heard Tyler sing this part. What makes this I've never heard this mix. This is the radio pod mix and when they played over there, I've heard it though with the country guys. Though they come in on the second part they do Yeah, so on the country next go Tyler starts it off like that same lyric. Who remember the first time I heard this I was listen. I was listen on satellite and I heard this song come on and I was like, Oh, I don't know what that song is. That's one of the greatest songs I've heard in my life, A hard thing catchy. I immediately loved it. I was like, Oh, this is the catchy song I ever heard. And it's actually UM changed a bit of songwriting when writing for radio because this song is just sing the hook, hook, build something, sing the hook. I mean they nailed it as far as the fun song goes. And again, I didn't think if you got enough credit last year for that song. It could have been song of the Year. It was so big. And I remember the story where bb rex I went to write this song. I thought she was going to write a little big down but instead it was Florida Georgia line. It was it was Tyler Lord Georgia line. Um. But yeah, that wasn't number two. And God's Plan again was number one for eleven weeks from Drake Plan. I don't I know Drake on the other end of that was he was on the other side of this. He spent five weeks at number two with Hotline blaef song was everywhere. Yeah, maybe we're still talking about um. And so this song was a number two for five weeks but was blocked by two songs. So while I was sitting at number two as it got jumped. But first of all, uh, the Weekend had the Hills, which is good. But man, God's Plane I think is still the bigger song, right holin Blank? Wouldn't you think which one? Yeah? Yeah, sorry, Hodline Blake, Which what do you think is? Yeah? Oh it's close to you? Did I still hear this song on the radio all the time. Boy, I don't from Okay I'm gonna lean though on Hodline Blink. If you had to pick one, it's still go to Hills you would well then it was jumped by Adele Hello, one of the biggest songs you had five years like bad Timing. You're never gonna beat this song? Is that people in the background that song? I think YouTube EUIP still playing. Damn. That must be the album version where people at you're talking on the phone will jump back a little bit. Bob Dylan had like a rolling stone? How is it meal? This is arguably Bob Dylan's most famous song and one of the most influential pieces of music, even I would say all nineteen hundreds because Bob Dylan is such a big deal and it was his biggest song. But when I tell you what the song is that was it was the number one year go Oh a bad Time because the Beatles kept them out with tilt. Have you got it to be Bob Dylan stuff and all Mike I never got into but not so much even his music, like his story and why he's so influential and that, Yeah, I'm aware of that. I just could never get into his music. If you watched any Bob Dylan documentaries. I haven't reading Bob Dylan books. I just got into like some Reddit threads about him my YouTube videos, but nothing super junior varsity of that. Yeah, because you learn enough about it and then there's there's a new document right down that flix. Um. I've watched some of and I'm not a huge Bob Dylan guy. Eddie's a big Bobby one guy. Um, but I've read. I read Bob Dylan's book, UM, and I like some Bob. What's Bob Dylan's most strange song? He was blocked out by Uptown Funk by Karnson with Bruno Mars, which was number one for nine weeks Crazy Uptown Punk, and they were both nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammys and obviously ed one just kidding up Town Funk one last one Record of the Year, which, by the way, that's the recording of a song. It's like artist producers, engineers. A lot of people wanted what's the diffence like Record of the Year and Song of the Year. So record of the Year when you're just so you'll be the smart guy to party because I wouldn't know this either if I didn't look it up or work in music. Um, record of the Year thinking of us like recording record record recording. Um, that's like that Office episode with Michael Scott thinking of everybody's name and he's like Pimple uh pe uh, Pussycat whiskers, Willie uh, fat Willy Wonka, fat guy, Frank, you're Frank and his every person's name because he has some weird thing, and I'm like, remember record, like recording like all the sounds. But that's what Record of Year is. It's specific recording of a song. So it's the artist, the producers, the engineers, the entire team that contributes to that song, where as Song of the Year is a songwriter reward, which is different than Single of the Year. So there are a lot of them. A Record of the Years, the entire recording. You'll be the smart person the next time the Grammys come up. But yeah, there's that. In two thousand nine, Miley Cyrus at Party in the USA number two for three weeks, beat out by I got a feeling by the Black Eyed Piece for one of those weeks, which was a jam and Jay Shawn Down Down, Down, Down Down Down. Narl's Barkley Crazy wasn't number two for um seven weeks and this was a jamp boom boom boom boom. I remember when I remember one a lot of Mama. I was like, man, this is crazy Narl's Barkley. Who's this dude? And turned out it was Celo and Danger Mouth, right, I believe you may look that up. There was Celo just sing her obviously danger Mouse and Danger Mouse was like the producer. But it was beat out by Nellie Partados up Promiscuous, who said at number one forever, and that was Promiscuous girl. I love nive V Tado Oh stopped now, but I said love her and it's like now ever thought of the Timberlin's producing all of her stuff. Crazy, You don't have a player on the trip. I'm with. Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen peaked at number two in Nino in the United States, a rare three appearances on the chart, which, by the way, one of the best selling songs singles of all time, has sold over six million copies. It was number one in the UK for nine weeks, never reached number one in the US. In the United States, Get This originally in nineteen seventy six and peaked at number nine. So when it was first released, like in the movie, if you watch Bohemian Rhapsody, it was the number nine. It goes away, it comes back because of Wayne's World. The same song in n hits number two. Crazy that a song fifteen years later, sixteen years yeah, ends up again climbing and chart and getting played so much, not as a novelty or remember this song, but as a current song again and makes it to the number two, higher than original. That's mine belonging to me and the song. They kept it out. They wore their overalls backwards and so did everybody else. Criss cross jumps and where my genes a school backer once broke the button got my butt? Wok Did I write that in a book? I may have written that in my first book. I was like, I remember I wore on backward and I only have like two pair of jeans, and we like you just booke wanting your pair of jeans and I was in like fifth six grade two and I got to remember being pissed whooping me and I was too old to get Wolfen. Yeah, that's crazy. By the way, recently, Bhami and Rhapsody made a third visit under the chart. After that movie beham Me and Rhapsody hit um It hit the chart at number thirty three. It holds the record for the twentieth centuries most streamed song. So the twentieth centuries most streamed was there streaming the twentieth century? Are we the twenty century now? But I guess the song from the twentieth century most streamed got it, So this is okay. So not it's not beating Drake, but for songs that came out in the twentieth century, it's the most stream interesting. Shania Twain had a number one excuse me, a number two that was never number one. We're still the one song peaked at number two, becoming shi twenties first top ten hit on the pop chart. It still is known as their biggest crossover songs. It was the number one country but hit number two on the pop chart, and it was blocked out by two close from Next, which was number one for five weeks, which is the freaking jam. It's about it. It's about a dude getting bone right. I just got into radio as a teenager and we're playing this song and I was like, I can I believe I'm playing a song about to do gett a bone or because I got boners and I still do sometimes I dancing girls like you just never control it if like sometimes they somebodys girls. Note, I don't even know universally if girls like that or not. I don't think they're like random bonners on their leg, you know, if they're just had to be dancing near somebody and you get a bonner. But if like they're into you, I still don't know. The age old question does she like it if you get a bone runner? Now like your husband or wife? Because probably even if you don't even hate that, I don't know, But it's just generally speaking, and you're dancing. Like let's say I'm at the club, don't even go to the club. I go and I'll go to the bar with Morgan number two, which is kind of clubby. I guess consider at the club. Okay, I go to the club once every five months, and if I'm dancing with a girl. She's like, oh, it's fun. This guy's kind of cute. And then I get a boner and she like, is this I never dance on the girl before? Or she like, yes I did, Dad, I don't know. And with that question, I'll leave you. I don't think I knew that till about five years ago. That's what that song is about. It was about a bonus song that'd be a pretty interesting topic to these songs. We had no idea the meaning, and now we look back and go, oh, no idea a bouneri uh, That's that's it. That's songs that peaked at number two and the songs that kept them out. And I'll say again that originally it was my idity songs of peaked number two, but I think that the entire podcast was made so much more fruitful by your additional idea of songs that kept them out. It kept him out. I think it made it even But I think that was the whole podcast. Songs that kept mouth was more inesting to me. The songs peaked number two songs had no idea about Joey d I'm gonna go get my stream on Joey. Yeah, Joe Dye and the current projects with food.
