Speaker 2: Jeff Passen reported on a story about MLB telling team officials that they're going to have to wait a little bit longer to monitor amateur players over a winter period. So they ordered down period for teams to watch youngsters prospects, and that also includes collecting data on them. This will happen in the winter time. So it says there's a warning two executives that the amateur baseball calendar is putting young players at dramatic risk of future injury. That's a memo from the league and it's a seven page document to high ranking personnel all thirty teams. The league said it hoped it's amateur Recovery Period policy, which covers high school juniors and seniors from October fifteenth to January fifteenth and college players from November fifteenth to January fifteenth, will quote alleviate the pressure on young players to forego rest and recovery, curb overuse, and keep players healthier as they strive for a future in professional baseball. So during that period, team employees cannot see any player covered by the policy here that includes video, third party data, et cetera. If you violate it, you can be fined, suspended, placed on the game's ineligible list, sanctions on the team, et cetera. And they're encouraging players to use this period for rest, recovery and training for next season rather than high intensity, maximum effort activities. This is due to the league finding out that dudes are going too hard all the time.

Speaker 4: Only thing this does is it probably kills some showcase events that happening, but doesn't limit colleges, doesn't limit other things to other people to come and watch. So I mean, yeah, this is like, oh, we see a rash of injuries, we should do something about it. But this is this doesn't really change anything for me. And also a lot of the injuries we're seeing Bigley pictures are throwing all year around. They're going to drive lines and treads and places all winter and throwing all the time, so that doesn't really stop them from going places to throw. So I mean, yeah, I guess it helps a little bit, but I don't know what it really does, because again, the biggest tournament of the year is in Jupiter, the WWBA, and Jupiter ends I think October twelfth or something. So yeah, not like it's not like this is like, oh man, we're gonna end that one. No, it's October to January is shut down anyways, and then they can start doing arm arm exercises. Are arm care is like January first or something in high school. So I don't know what this does other than it makes MLB say we did something.

Pitchers should be done before October fifteenth. So this is from Major League Baseball. I don't think it's I think this is just a hey, look at what we did. Is it going to make a blip on the radar? Absolutely not until guys are rewarded for staying healthy and going longer into games or just in general staying healthy. Oh wait, you can have a really good career, if you stay healthy and you're always available, So that's the reward. I don't think this is a Major League Baseball thing, and I think this is to me it's eyewash.

If you have to go to a tryout in January and be your absolute best max, you're gonna be either injured because you're getting ready too soon, or your season is going to be brutal because you hit your peak way too soon. You got to be ready when your season starts. For me, I had to be ready at the beginning of spring training because that was the times when I would get my at bats and play in the field, and then the good players would come and they would start playing every day and I would get smattering of at bats. At the end of spring training, I wouldn't play the whole time, like you have to be able to time it. And I think too many kids, whether they throw too much or not, it's they're just not being taught how to take care of their bodies, because there's the holy grail of hitting that number, whatever it is. If you want to go to a low level college, you got to hit ninety. You want to go to a high level college, you got to hit ninety five. You want to get drafted, it's ninety eight. And until that changes, these quiet periods, dead periods for pro scouts, not going to save any injuries. Yeah, but I mean, nobody needs to be ramping up in just January December, anyways, it should be. This is again, No, there's no big things unless certain certain places are doing things in December January. I mean I just had a son go through it, and there was at the end of October it was done. There was nothing until January started.
