00:01:29
Speaker 1: Think about times.

00:01:30
Speaker 3: Fine.

00:01:31
Speaker 2: Now, the Chiefs are saying Mahomes is a head of schedule for his recovery, but as Dan Buyer pointed out yesterday, they're not going to play the Seahawks week one because they're not quite sure that. So I wanted to talk about NFL scheduling. But any final thoughts on ABS before we get to the NFL. I already sort of gave you my Jerry Springer final thought. I think all of us as spectators are going through an adjustment period of.

00:01:54
Speaker 1: Do I like this? Do I not?

00:01:55
Speaker 2: How do I feel about it? Why don't we just get it right from the get go? As we turn our attention to the NFL because you know, you could eliminate the whole challenge, by the way, if you just got it right.

00:02:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm still more interested in how Covino has never had Taco Bell hot sauce.

00:02:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that's a topic in itself. Yeah, you know what, you know Covino will.

00:02:15
Speaker 3: Say that I found that out a couple of minutes, saved that for over promised to cold.

00:02:18
Speaker 1: I could I answer for him?

00:02:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll let me do my best, Covino, Bro, I'm have Mexican hilf Oftalian. Do you think I eat Taco Bell with my my dtha, My grandma had her own pot to your press.

00:02:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, but you got you guys.

00:02:32
Speaker 4: Also, you guys also know really great pizza and you still have had Dominoes.

00:02:36
Speaker 1: That is true. That is true.

00:02:37
Speaker 2: We call it junk food pizza. And I mean that by I don't mean anything slight.

00:02:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it.

00:02:43
Speaker 1: Trust me.

00:02:44
Speaker 2: I go to a kid's birthday party, I'll house some Dominoes. But if you said, what's good pizza, I know good pizza.

00:02:48
Speaker 1: I'm from New York.

00:02:49
Speaker 2: It's not that I've never had Taco Bell, Bro, It's just not my go to when we have so many good taco places here in La That's that's that's as answer, because I love it. I love authentic Mexican food, but on a late night nothing beats a Gordida crunch. It's not my goal to four Put it this way, this is a true story. Maybe it helps make sense. My daughter had Taco Bell with a friend for the first time in her life. She's sixteen years old. She never had talk about her.

00:03:15
Speaker 1: My kids are eight. She's not my.

00:03:17
Speaker 2: Go to you know, it's just not I get Mexican at least twice a week, had yeah all the time. She had McDonald's all the time. She had Wendy's all the time. So I mean not all the time, but yeah.

00:03:30
Speaker 5: Me and my buddies, we used to walk from our neighborhood down to downtown Iowa City just to go to Taco Bell and make a day of it.

00:03:36
Speaker 1: What about the gringos locals? Friend?

00:03:38
Speaker 2: But I'm saying, what do you invent like in your college food court? Like I feel like late night, late night and this is no commercial.

00:03:46
Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.

00:03:46
Speaker 2: I thought that I've never had it, bro It's just when they were talking about you, not in your rotation, not in my rotation was telling me how great the hot sauce is, and I'm like, I don't know. I don't know it, Like sure, I guess it is.

00:03:58
Speaker 3: I don't know.

00:03:58
Speaker 2: I was just telling them that I Taco Bell hot sauce, not fire. Sam, you like the fire or what. I like all of them, but I like Fire. I think it's the perfect. I'm saying Diablo is too hot. I was a little beach. I took Diablo and I was like, oh, I had to drink water. But the Taco Bell, the hot sauce, the hot.

00:04:15
Speaker 1: I tell you.

00:04:15
Speaker 2: I put on scribbled eggs, I put on sandwiches. Sometimes I hoard Taco Bell hot sauce. You have a drawer in your house, it's sort of like how it's called stealing, Danny.

00:04:24
Speaker 1: I keep well, they.

00:04:24
Speaker 5: Put a bunch in your bag, like way more than you need. That's good known for stealing.

00:04:28
Speaker 2: They ask you how many, and I go twenty. Like if you go to Chick fil A, I always ask for extra Chick fil A sauce because I'll put that on like a turkey sandwich or something that's good sauce. That's good sauces, right, Ben malor now I'm just not a Baja blast Taco Bell.

00:04:45
Speaker 1: I'm not a Baja.

00:04:45
Speaker 2: I don't hate on it, you know, at all, but I'm just not my ghost. It's the tastiest slop as far as fast food goes. If you're gonna talk about tasty slop, tasty. Maybe there'll be a sponsor one day.

00:04:57
Speaker 1: But I made it extra slapping.

00:05:00
Speaker 2: But this is this is this is no commercial. I promise you, I will vouch. I will put the cheesy Gordida crunch with Taco Bell above anything else when it comes.

00:05:11
Speaker 1: It was just a Gordida crunch until you had it. Is that true? Yeah? It was then if you gave a cheesy one, I love it.

00:05:18
Speaker 2: You know, the cheesy Gordida crunch is like the ultimate late night you're a little drunk, you're a little high, or you just have the late night munchies.

00:05:25
Speaker 1: The cheesy Gordida crunch slaps.

00:05:28
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, because you know they actually sell that, like Chipotle Chpole, they'll staste. I think they sell it in grocery stores. But it's like the idea of buying that and putting it on my food. Just see it feels weird. I'm like, it's probably got so much salt in it.

00:05:40
Speaker 2: So now but terrible for We only brought that up because during the break, Covino's like, yeah, I never had them, like you never had it?

00:05:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, Rich Rich ran in here, he got a hot sauce packet and then he ran back into the main on air studio and he put it on a fork for Coveno Cove. You know what's doing a hot sauce tasting.

00:05:57
Speaker 1: I like it.

00:05:57
Speaker 2: Hey, guys, I like that, all right, So I'm Kavino. That is rich and your thoughts. They did come out with a list. We'll get to NFL in a second. I find this more fun, to be honest. I saw a list yesterday, and this is interesting because I think we all agree it's what was the most overpriced fast food burger out there now? And they did a national survey, and I hate to say, is overpriced is insinuating it's too much money? Which overpriced always delicious, But five Guys was voted number one as far as overpriced fast food burger. Yeah it's good, but don't you feel like if you go there, you're spending like twenty bucks on your charge.

00:06:33
Speaker 1: On your phone. There's extra fries they throw in there.

00:06:35
Speaker 6: Yeah, no doubt ours is closed by us by the way. Yeah yeah, So I don't know if that's a that's a bigger thing, but ours went away.

00:06:43
Speaker 2: I remember you if you get the five guys that dubbed the extra patty and they did throw all the fries in. It's delicious. But I feel like I would go for my wife and I and you know me, I love Chipotle too, and I Chipotle is like forty bucks or two people sometimes.

00:06:54
Speaker 4: So there's a meme that says, I won't let you know when I get my tax return, but there'll be signs. Guy sitting there with a five guys Burger.

00:07:03
Speaker 1: You know what the most affordable is? And are they that expensive?

00:07:06
Speaker 4: For honestly, twenty dollars for one person to eat a full meal easily?

00:07:11
Speaker 2: And you know what the opposite is a place that's not national, but you probably had it wherever you live in and out Burger. There's a reason there's a line down the block. I feel like you can get like a Burger for us like six months and trash can.

00:07:24
Speaker 3: The price they are a little high these days, it's still very affordable.

00:07:26
Speaker 6: I don't know how many of you guys do we still make hamburgers at home, five guys, is the closest to a making at home hamburger as well? Yes it is, you know, like this is I can make this at home. Like you can't make an in and out burger really at home, Like there's just I mean, you can add the toppings and stuff, but the actual meat in the bun and how they do it. But five guys felt like, well, we can kind of make something close to this at home.

00:07:50
Speaker 1: No, it's listen, so I get it. So you're like, what's the point.

00:07:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I you're going to charge us three.

00:07:55
Speaker 1: Times right right? So I'm hungry.

00:08:00
Speaker 5: I haven't had five guys yet, only three. I just set myself up and I really haven't. I've never had it, so I don't know what all the hullablues.

00:08:10
Speaker 2: Someday, Sam, that's also a hint. It's also a hint. You know, maybe I want to bring some in for to a producer. No, jeez, anyway, burgers, tacos. Guy, Ready, here's a transition, Rich, Hey, come on, you want a little vegtamite. Yeah, Kyle Shanahan back to the NFL. I thought this was wild because I love the honesty and you know, we assume that these NFL players are so blessed, which they are making a ton of money. We love the NFL more than anything. We live and breathe the NFL, even when it's off season. Danny g We're all texted each other about our team's off season moves, like it's the NFL is.

00:08:52
Speaker 3: King, dude. The draft is days away.

00:08:56
Speaker 2: Now, I'm already sizing up, like who the Niners going to add? And there's rumors, you know, like oh, they're going to add another wide receiver and what are they gonna do with Ayu Quit? So many questions. Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the Niners, gives a strong take on starting the season in Australia. Quote, I don't see any pro to this at all. Like you could say, like, yeah, maybe you get to see the world, which is what Danny.

00:09:22
Speaker 1: Danny said, You know, these guys don't appreciate seeing the world, but.

00:09:26
Speaker 2: Because they've already seen it on their own time on the Nats and shit, I don't imagine beat me.

00:09:34
Speaker 3: To hear the rest of what Rich said. Listen to the podcast.

00:09:36
Speaker 5: It's work though, like like go on your own time to Australia, but like yeah, it's work, Like this is just making work harder for us to go halfway across the world.

00:09:43
Speaker 4: It is work, but when we get sent somewhere cool to work, it's still cool.

00:09:48
Speaker 5: I mean, it's twenty hour flight for some of these.

00:09:51
Speaker 4: Guys are young guys that haven't had the opportunity to travel yet.

00:09:55
Speaker 1: I think it shows that much of the country.

00:09:56
Speaker 2: Can you see these guys are jaded some because it's not a thrill to It's just not I.

00:10:00
Speaker 1: Mean, Kyle Shanahan said, I don't see any pro to this at all. He did admit it.

00:10:04
Speaker 2: He did admit that it was quote cool for the league to play globally and expand the game, calling it even awesome to get international fans experiencing it. But when asked personally about it, he goes, yeah, there's nothing really awesome but about starting the season overseas, grueling training camp, playing in Australia week one, and then yeah you get a couple extra days, but then coming back and having to pick it up with week two with no bye week. He said there is no advantage of fact, he can't think of one positive about this other than for other people like hey, Australian fans get to experience. It is jat or like men at work doing the halftime show, or anything that might come from that might be fun, that could be a benefit. Yeah, you know, I totally understand where he's coming from. It does sound like ungrateful. I was going to use another word. Now, I'm a little scared after Rich cursed on the air.

00:10:54
Speaker 1: I didn't mean it. I just feel natural with you guys.

00:10:57
Speaker 3: Oh that's fine.

00:10:58
Speaker 2: You were in Patreon mode, I was, yeah, Uh, it does sound jaded. It does sound like these guys are spoiled, but guess what they are.

00:11:07
Speaker 1: You're right, I get it.

00:11:08
Speaker 2: The average fan and the average person would jump at the opportunity for a work trip to Australia fulfill your travel dreams. Because I've even joked with that off the box because that's one of my dream destinations.

00:11:18
Speaker 1: Same with I've even joked with the boss.

00:11:20
Speaker 2: I said, uh, hey, like uh if like there was a client or some reason why Caveno and I needed to cover the Niners in Australia.

00:11:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, because I've never been.

00:11:31
Speaker 2: Rich has never been, and I think they really marketed Australia hard to us when we were kids because in our minds, it's like the coolest place that like.

00:11:40
Speaker 1: Choral reached of the most beautiful scenes ever.

00:11:42
Speaker 3: Right, and and the crocodile done, crocodile gich.

00:11:47
Speaker 1: You're a big fan of Kangaroo Jack, weren't you? What a great movie?

00:11:50
Speaker 3: Right?

00:11:50
Speaker 2: So I think that in our minds, our childhood minds were like, we got to go to Australia one day. We've never got a chance. And then you hear these professional athletes, coaches and these other dudes who make millions of dollars who can go whenever they want, They're not as thrilled because guess what they could do that whenever they want.

00:12:08
Speaker 1: It makes a lot of sense. It's as we don't like to hear it.

00:12:10
Speaker 2: I mean we heard the thing same sentiment last year with certain teams that went to Brazil. These international games take a toll and be sure, I'd imagine you have thoughts on this.

00:12:20
Speaker 6: Well, yeah, Like I look at it in a couple of ways, because are you an ambassador at that point? Would you rather spend the whole week go to different functions in that country, have your practice or would you just rather keep it like a business sort of thing? And that's where I understand the travel and all of that is annoying, but if you're traveling and keeping it as a normal business week, it would be twice as annoying for me. Like I would understand if I had a week of things to do where we were appearing at this spot. We were trying to make it popular in the you know, whatever country that they're in, but to like make it like normal, which is what the Chiefs and Chargers did. I think this past year was just flew down on a Thursday night, got there, spent three nights in their hotel, and then flew back right after the game. You're kind of wondering, like, what's the point of it if there's not going to be anything extra with it.

00:13:10
Speaker 2: There's a couple things you said that just spurred thoughts. Yeah, from the player's perspective, when when we do Super Bowl Week for Fox Sports Radio, it's the most fun we have networking as professionals and we get to see the bosses, get to hang with each other. We got to spend some time with Stu Gott's and bump into some of the Danettes and go, you know, hang with Colin at his party. Like it's a really great week, but it's very busy because you still are doing your regular work.

00:13:35
Speaker 1: So it's an amped up weekend.

00:13:37
Speaker 2: If you're not down for that, if you don't have that that energy to be honest, to do it all. Really is an exhausting week. So you can imagine if you're an NFL player mm hmmy. And not only there's a lot more extra work, right, so you're already practicing your training ad and travel add in like and you know, we want you to do an appearance at this this Australian pub and you know, wave to some fans like. But then again, on the flip of it, Danny J. Kavino and I were lucky enough and blessed to go to Mexico City when we were at ESPN and we saw what that meant to the people and fans of Mexico City. Awesome, it was like, it was honestly remarkable, and how it's cool to see that game going that global.

00:14:17
Speaker 1: You're like, wait, what they care this much? So here's awesome.

00:14:20
Speaker 4: Here's where these guys need to appreciate where they're at in life. You and our show, we go out of our way to represent Fox Sports Radio.

00:14:29
Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt.

00:14:29
Speaker 4: So when the bosses say, hey, this is important to us and our brand, we go out of our way. If the NFL says, hey, you guys, you're the faces of this league. You're important to what's happening and for the growth of this league, we need you here.

00:14:42
Speaker 3: Why would you ever.

00:14:44
Speaker 4: Push back on something like that when you are growing the very thing that's making you a millionaire.

00:14:49
Speaker 2: He's saying two things at once. It's great for the game, but it's not necessarily great for the team. It's not great for which I understand. It's just it rubs you the wrong way.

00:14:57
Speaker 3: That's all.

00:14:58
Speaker 5: When you fly east to west and you're going from the United States to Australia, you go into a different day.

00:15:03
Speaker 3: It becomes tomorrow.

00:15:05
Speaker 2: No.

00:15:05
Speaker 3: Rich is the same one who said jet Lag is not a real fan.

00:15:08
Speaker 5: Okay, but listen, man, unless you got one of those lay down seats on a cushy first class, they have cushy everything they do.

00:15:15
Speaker 1: Okay, but still you're going, Danny to make it.

00:15:18
Speaker 2: Do they have to make an extra big one for Trimplly is pointing out something out that's very interesting here.

00:15:24
Speaker 1: It's not like they're going it's not.

00:15:27
Speaker 2: Like they're in middle seat right squished in. They're going out of their way to make it happen. You got people carting them around everywhere, driving them everywhere.

00:15:35
Speaker 4: They're checking account on their phone the way we are like, oh man, how much do I have for this trip?

00:15:40
Speaker 3: What's my budget? Like none of that.

00:15:42
Speaker 2: They don't have that Eddy, They're not worried about TSA, Lions or none of it. So if Shanahan just being honest about it, or yeah, hate his honesty, you know, let us know, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

00:15:53
Speaker 1: I get it.

00:15:53
Speaker 2: I think it's obviously great for the league. It's just it's a lot more taxing for the players. But you know what I think, when you look ahead, this is interesting because they're starting the season there. If in the future, which a lot of times they've done these games where the team then gets a bye week afterwards, then you could justify and say, all right, if we're gonna do two bye weeks, eighteen weeks of NFL action, which is what the essentially the blueprint that'll probably take form in a couple of years, Yeah, eighteen games.

00:16:21
Speaker 3: And that's what's gonna happen. Two bye weeks and.

00:16:23
Speaker 2: You're gonna end up having two bye weeks. You're gonna end up every team will probably have one international game, and that's probably the way football will remain for a while. Once once they get eighteen games international and everything, then they'll set it up where all right, when you have an international game, they'll somehow find a way that you get a bye week the next week, and then it will make sense.

00:16:41
Speaker 1: No one could bitch and complain then, right, that would be Yeah, that would be the goal the payoff.

00:16:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like it's like when you go on a long business trip and what are they called Sometimes they call it that that extra day, like you take a comp day when you get back, like right, like you travel cover a little bit. Yeah, call a Bruce Buffer day. Yeah, a little buffer day. You call it the Michael Buffer. Michael Bumfer called the Bruce Buffer day.

00:17:02
Speaker 1: Buffer.

00:17:02
Speaker 4: And it would be nice if they could give these teams a sight seeing day there, Rich And you're right, they need more time coming back because that was some of the complaints we heard last year was well, we didn't really get to see anything while we were there, So I do understand that aspect of it.

00:17:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't think George Kittle wants to uh, you know, go see some kangaroos. Sure he does, I'm sure he does. He probably wants to fight a kangaroo. All right, Hey, your thoughtsback's coming in Willhelm and a crider says, crime me a river? When when when you got to go to Australia. You're making millions of dollars. You're getting carted around like a like a prince, you know, So your thoughts eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, I could see how it rubs people the wrong way for sure.

00:17:43
Speaker 1: That the night Sandwitch.

00:17:45
Speaker 2: Now Sam Q up some minute work and get ready for Broke Iron, Mike, Broke Iron Michael be here to ask some trivia questions and your chance to win some CNR prize packs. All right, wait, eight seven ninety nine on Fox. We'll do that next, and we'll pay tribute to a movie turning thirty one today, a movie you may have watched more on VHS or DVD than any others in the nineties, and that is Tommy Boy. So we'll do a little movie tribute. We'll do some trivia with Tyson all next. Right here on FSR, Now is your business struggling struggling to find qualified candidate You're not alone. 00:34:26
Speaker 6: Sports Guys on the heels of his not guilty plea Earlier today, Tiger Woods just released the statement saying he's stepping away from golf, and I'll read the whole statement for you. This just from Tiger Woods moments ago. Quote, I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. Tiger added quote, I'm committed to taking the time needed to return to a in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally.

00:35:21
Speaker 3: Oh?

00:35:21
Speaker 2: No, I stand byron my bad yo. That shows you how bad my eyes really are. Plus, I got a glare here in the studio. I can't sa covid I man days later we've seen before. We are celebrating the anniversary of Tommy Boy, and I only bring it up because, can you know what? I have a theory that social media killed the movie quote. I don't think there's any question. Yeah, we stopped quoting movies in the early two thousands. They say the last great comedy was Super Bad Wedding Crashers. Maybe, And you wonder, oh, in old school, there's a handful of movies forty year old virgin. They are all in the same timeframe of when social media sorted started launching, and you wonder, well, there's a simple reason, and this the monoculture theory that we often bring up. Back before social media, we all bonded over watching Dumb and Dumber and Billy Madison a thousand times on VHS, so we all knew the quotes, we all knew the same jokes, we all knew the same thing. And because of social media, the the mono culture sort of changed and we all had different interests. The algorithm changed what we were into. It that all watching different things, so movies became less quotable. But also before the algorithm took over, it was simply scrolling took over watching a movie for a second, third, fourth, fifth time, like it's a one and done world.

00:36:39
Speaker 1: We've you were in college.

00:36:41
Speaker 2: You know, if you were in college in the two thousands or nineties, you and your buddies weren't sitting around scrolling. You're like Yo pop on Tommy Boy again, or Yo throwing as Ventura or you know, throw on Naked Gun like you will. You watched and quoted all the same movies because that was the background you live in now a background of scrolling. Look around in any given moments, someone in the room is scrolled and scrobbled and scrolling. So when you think of the movies that we all grew up with, Danny g if you're in, if you're around our age, we live in a world where you talk to your buddy sometimes in all movie quotes, young people quote nothing, want to hear something funny. There's so many things that we say. I had this conversation with Mike who runs this place just the other day, who he threw out some like line that Clint Eastwood said some of our America laughed and blah, and I was like, what's that. Yeah, So anyway, we say all these things.

00:37:35
Speaker 3: You say, Mike's the last of a dying breed.

00:37:37
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, no we are, because Mike's what, he's one hundred and eighty five, Mike's older than us. Yeah, we say things, and we say things to our kids that they're gonna attribute to us, not knowing we really we really got it from uh Lloyd Christmas and Billy Madison. Yeah right, because we just grew up saying these things. And they're like, my dad says it all the time. Your dad says that. My dad says that too. The part of that is done because these kids don't live in that quotable culture. It's just whatever's hot on social media. What about like skimmity toilet and they say stuff like that.

00:38:07
Speaker 1: Slang slang is alive, that's slang.

00:38:10
Speaker 3: Great's sad, though, I wish I wish they did get it.

00:38:13
Speaker 4: Like one of our teens, well, he's twenty now and he's pausing on college for a semester, and I told him, don't worry. A lot of people go to college for seven years. He had no idea what I was talking about.

00:38:22
Speaker 3: None.

00:38:23
Speaker 2: He's gonna think again, he's gonna think of something my dad said. They're called doctor's right. I mean, we're talking about some of the best movie quotes ever. And and I think a lot of times we'll quote something and you're right, a younger person might think it's an original thought, like when you say to me all the time, Kevino loves to do the whole so and so it is losing their mind and I'm reaping all the benefits.

00:38:41
Speaker 1: I'm quoting John Lovet's from Wedding Sing.

00:38:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know, for all I know, my daughter's like my dad says it all the time, but has no she thinks that I made that up.

00:38:50
Speaker 1: Meanwhile, I'm quoting a movie. Get over here. Those brothers don't shake hands.

00:38:54
Speaker 2: Brothers got a Tommy Boyce who just joined us, turns thirty one today, released March thirty first, nineteen ninety five.

00:39:02
Speaker 1: Rest in Peace, Chris Farley.

00:39:03
Speaker 2: I think it's also a movie that a lot of people do confuse with Black Sheep, even though Black Sheep is not as funny and as famous as Tommy Boy Love Black Sheep, though, Yeah they're they're both great.

00:39:17
Speaker 1: That's black Sheep. That's black Sheep?

00:39:30
Speaker 1: That's Tommy Boy. See.

00:39:32
Speaker 2: You know, I think a lot of our kids are gonna row ad that's Tommy boy.

00:39:37
Speaker 5: No, that's Tommy.

00:39:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, I was wrong.

00:39:42
Speaker 2: I think our kids are gonna have a freak out moment when they realize half the things we say we got from Adam Sandler Chris Farah.

00:39:50
Speaker 1: Please go away, let me sleep, for the love of God.

00:39:54
Speaker 2: Are there ones that will never go away? Fat guy in a little coat will never go away? That's a you know classic. So which one stand out to you? Hit us up at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. I'm glad to have lived in a time where we all bonded, especially in guy culture, but not just guys, you know everybody. We all bonded by knowing and rewatching these movies and quoting them till today. You guys know where the I'll check it out thirty one years later. That's the crazy part about it. Thirty one years later. It's a different culture.

00:40:28
Speaker 3: Now.

00:40:29
Speaker 2: Wait, hold on, let me ask you this. On's the last time you watched a movie more than once?

00:40:33
Speaker 4: Oh?

00:40:33
Speaker 2: I mean, it happens, but it's so few and far between. By the way, I think Bees is Tommy Boy. No, I think Bees Mud I meant crud.

00:40:47
Speaker 1: What's up?

00:40:48
