[SPEAKER_02]: It does come up. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not perfect and I'll continue not being perfect. [SPEAKER_02]: But also it's really good place to talk about, you know, get literature recommendations, get gameplay advice or just generally talk about it. [SPEAKER_01]: movies, literature. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, really anything that's adjacent to it's anything that's your sci-fi fantasy, just anything. [SPEAKER_01]: We talk about everything. [SPEAKER_01]: They got channels for everything and our moderators do a fantastic job with keeping the channels fresh, keeping people [SPEAKER_01]: I love eating it organized. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's one of the biggest things they do is they are the one that's why this thing says well organized as it is. [SPEAKER_02]: So big thank shout out to them. [SPEAKER_02]: So largely, I'm doing their screen names. [SPEAKER_02]: So some of these, I'm going to pronounce wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: So Larzia. [SPEAKER_02]: So Harsalia, Naz, Doc, Maestro, Query, Githulu, Gersbach, Nougals, and just Steve. [SPEAKER_02]: One of them decided to make my life easier. [SPEAKER_02]: Just Steve. [SPEAKER_02]: Hey. [SPEAKER_02]: Save with me. [SPEAKER_02]: The three names. [SPEAKER_02]: It's Brad Brad. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just Brad. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, but onto the cast. [SPEAKER_02]: So let's get into some black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: On our last cast, we covered the second founding of the Imperial Fists with the creation of black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: We've also spent a much time talking about the progenitor badass, Sigismund. [SPEAKER_02]: But today, we're talking more about the Black Templars themselves and namely what makes them so unique in Forty Kay. [SPEAKER_02]: They are, Trent, I'll be a strap of everybody. [SPEAKER_02]: I wrote this and I started buying models because I'm now gonna build a Black Templar army. [SPEAKER_02]: I knew the Templar lore, but now when you read it hard, you're like, oh, I wanna play Templar. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, the Black Templars just went, [SPEAKER_01]: all these Marines, luxury, life of nonsense. [SPEAKER_01]: We need to be serious about this. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, wow, you guys are, yeah, they didn't double down. [SPEAKER_01]: They triple down. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the black Templars, it's weird because I usually, I don't like things that are in the anatomy to fun and they definitely are like no one hates fun more than the black Templars. [SPEAKER_00]: Harrison. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Michael here. [SPEAKER_02]: They are. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's basically them and the sisters have competitions for who can be the most dower. [SPEAKER_02]: I heard someone was having some fun here. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to police. [SPEAKER_02]: That's exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: Here we come. [SPEAKER_02]: We do. [SPEAKER_02]: We do. [SPEAKER_02]: Nope. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: But the truth about the Black Templar, they actually a lot of what they do, actually all of what they do, originates from Sigismund. [SPEAKER_02]: Sigismund took a personal affront to the traders in the heresy, because he is a rule believer in the emperor and the great crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, what's interesting here is we've also, go. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I just, I think it's a big deal though, because it's not just the Emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: There's tons of people that believe in the Emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: They're fervent, I'm not sure. [SPEAKER_01]: They're beliefs. [SPEAKER_01]: He's a big believer on what the Emperor meant when he tries trying to do with the Grater, see the imperial truth. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what they're so passionate about. [SPEAKER_01]: Because there's tons of, [SPEAKER_01]: religious zealots that are the emperor is, you know, the god of mankind. [SPEAKER_01]: These guys are more crusading for what the emperor meant. [SPEAKER_01]: That. [SPEAKER_02]: What? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're right. [SPEAKER_02]: The belief in the imperial truth is that the galaxy is there for mankind. [SPEAKER_02]: And that mankind, the only way for mankind to actually survive and stand against the stars is to unite under one order, which was the Imperium of mankind. [SPEAKER_02]: And that anyone who doesn't believe in that is wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: And not only they wrong, they're actually potentially harming humanity. [SPEAKER_02]: That is potentially, they are harming humanity. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: So that is where the Imperial truth is. [SPEAKER_02]: And then the wording of the Imperial truth goes a little bit goofier, because you're all talking about killing all Zenos. [SPEAKER_02]: and any humanity that doesn't see the light of the Emperor, but, you know, this is at their core with the Black Templar belief. [SPEAKER_02]: What they believe is that they cherish peace with all their hearts, and they don't care how many men, women, and children they have to kill to get it. [SPEAKER_02]: Peace, Baker, two's already, season two's already ready to go. [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be fantastic. [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be fantastic. [SPEAKER_02]: It's so messed up. [SPEAKER_02]: It's that between that and the boys. [SPEAKER_02]: I had a lot of really bad laughs. [SPEAKER_02]: But for Sigismund and the founding Black Templars, they saw their potential for achieving the peace that they were striving for destroyed by those they called their brothers. [SPEAKER_02]: And so to this end, they decided that they were going to wage a new crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: And this crusade was going to go forth and tame the galaxy just as the Emperor had planned. [SPEAKER_02]: But it's with a little bit of a twist. [SPEAKER_02]: Also destroy the heretics, which was a neat thing. [SPEAKER_01]: I like this before. [SPEAKER_01]: I like this a lot because of the fact that he could have been a lot of the, even the primarx where hurt almost destroyed mentally after all this stuff happened. [SPEAKER_01]: I like the fact that he doubled down on the fact of nope. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do something about this and they still take the same oath to this day, all the high marshals. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a big deal because he started this. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and the oath is to prove his loyalty never resting on the prosecution of his duties against the enemies of the emperor. [SPEAKER_02]: That's where every high martial has to swear on and they go forth. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think Brad made a really great point there. [SPEAKER_02]: When I kind of doubled down on opposed the solar wars, a lot of the primarks were kind of mentally broken. [SPEAKER_02]: And they became single-minded. [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about, that's how it would be during got trapped in the dumbest trap ever by Petarabo, because he was just so focused on it. [SPEAKER_02]: Lehman went through himself into the eye of terror. [SPEAKER_02]: Corrects through himself into the eye of terror. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Gilliman went hand-to-hand with full-groom for what appears to be no, we could have blown him up with rockets and said went hand-to-hand. [SPEAKER_02]: They all made these mistakes. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Sigisman kind of sending with with with with Abadan and you know, lesson learned, but the difference was the black temple are seem to be much more controlled in their rage, because what they did was they took their rage to took their anger and they said, we're not going to give ground. [SPEAKER_02]: We're not going to give up. [SPEAKER_02]: We're not going to give an inch year, but our goal is to destroy you. [SPEAKER_02]: And we are going to achieve that goal. [SPEAKER_02]: It is focused rage is not the biggest things. [SPEAKER_02]: And black temp, this is why the Black Templars are awesome. [SPEAKER_02]: And so for the last ten thousand years, the Black Templar have been raging this crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: They have been active in every sector. [SPEAKER_02]: They've fought effectively, every foe humanity has, might be a couple of Xenos, they missed, but all the big ones they fought. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is no sign of slowing down, because actually in the absolute most latest lore, they've turned it up again, doing eleven. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll get there at the end of the cast, guys. [SPEAKER_01]: So this was just look badass because they're just other models on the board. [SPEAKER_01]: They're full black paint scheme with a white cross. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be honest. [SPEAKER_02]: So I built my death watch army and the result like death watches, they're black. [SPEAKER_02]: I batch paint. [SPEAKER_02]: And so when I went to build an army, I will go ahead and I'll click like five thousand points of an army and I just build them. [SPEAKER_02]: It's really nice when I used to spray paint them and do a couple of inch highlights. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just a lot of user than say imperial fists. [SPEAKER_02]: Or the worst one I've ever had to do, which was thousands of songs. [SPEAKER_02]: That actually, that harmed me trying to paint thousands of songs. [SPEAKER_02]: Rubik Merins, that hurt. [SPEAKER_01]: So, well, it was wild because the black Templars are able to fight in all these things because they're just a fully mobile Legion. [SPEAKER_01]: As of now, they're a Legion. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not a chapter. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, look at to their later that their current numbers get interesting. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll get there in a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a thing. [SPEAKER_01]: They just roll. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Effectively, I'm picking a fight with anybody that doesn't have the imperial truth in mind. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And that in fact, sometimes they do it even in lieu of being told, no, we're good now by the Ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_02]: But let's get, let's party though. [SPEAKER_02]: So let's talk about the black timers. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly the breadth point. [SPEAKER_02]: The main piece of the black timers by the most important piece to me is that they're a fully mobile region. [SPEAKER_02]: No home world. [SPEAKER_02]: They don't even have a home base. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, the, like, so the imperial fists have the phalanx. [SPEAKER_02]: floating right at the crimson fist had the retellus tyranus until they put it on a planet and then that didn't end well. [SPEAKER_02]: The black Templar don't have that. [SPEAKER_02]: The black Templar are completely spread out throughout the galaxy and this is because they are they've been on a non-stop war footing since day one. [SPEAKER_02]: And this may I want to spend a lot of time on because they are the only ones that do this. [SPEAKER_02]: So [SPEAKER_01]: It goes into what they are though, even the names of units and everything else. [SPEAKER_01]: They are crusading force. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: That's what they are at all times. [SPEAKER_02]: And then I say about their crusade is that the galaxy is kind of big. [SPEAKER_02]: So there's no end of the crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: You get to just keep expanding. [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, the entirety of the imperial forces are mobile in nature. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, you have a couple. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess the planetary defense forces are not. [SPEAKER_02]: But everything's [SPEAKER_02]: mobile and nature, but they all have somewhere to kind of return from. [SPEAKER_02]: The guard regiment will be raised on a planet. [SPEAKER_02]: They never return there, but that guard regiment always is a promise of settling down somewhere. [SPEAKER_02]: The space Marines have these massive ships that transfer them all around to engage, and obviously we have an Imperial Navy, but all of them have a home base. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, the space marines have the recruitment worlds for the most part. [SPEAKER_02]: The guardsmen, you know, they're going to either, they're going to settle somewhere in the future. [SPEAKER_02]: And they're all going to die. [SPEAKER_02]: But if they don't die, they'll settle somewhere. [SPEAKER_02]: The sisters have their comments. [SPEAKER_02]: And even the Imperial Navy, which is technically mobile, still has major space ports that they link back up in. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's re-support. [SPEAKER_01]: That also people, yeah, well, so the Imperial Navy calls some of these ports as their home period. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: All of the black templars are in basic perpetual motion machine of war, and that's why they call them the crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: To dive into that a bit more, we're going to jump around chronologically, but it's because it actually makes more sense to tell it this way than it does to actually do it in true chronologic order. [SPEAKER_02]: It'll make sense a second, guys. [SPEAKER_02]: From there on set, the Black Templar didn't wage battles and engagements as other parts of the Emperor forces did. [SPEAKER_02]: For example, in this scouring, the Legion of the Space Marines set out to destroy the remnants of the Trader Legions, but they were only focused on destroying those who had gone to war with them before. [SPEAKER_02]: That was kind of their goal. [SPEAKER_02]: They were very single-minded in purpose. [SPEAKER_01]: I just love these guys because as I said, we said a little bit in the peril fist because Dorn himself was these guys took book of grudges to a next level. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this is psychotic. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, the God appeared and gave them, you know, the quest for the Holy Grail and they all decided to go and find said Holy Grail. [SPEAKER_01]: If you do something bad to them, this is some telonop kind of levels. [SPEAKER_01]: This is from people that know Stephen Erickson. [SPEAKER_01]: That's that kind of hatred. [SPEAKER_01]: I will chase you to the ends of time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's not a distance, Brad. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't care. [SPEAKER_02]: So the Black Templar at this time, decided to wage during the exact same era, a crusade of conquest. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is because the Templar were focused not just on killing their enemies, but also preventing them from rising again. [SPEAKER_02]: Again, the Space Marines just wanted revenge. [SPEAKER_02]: The Space Marines were like, hey, remember Space Marine Ted, I'm going to go stab him. [SPEAKER_02]: That was their goal. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templar's goal was, we're going to stab Ted. [SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to make sure there's never another Ted. [SPEAKER_01]: And so this, but it goes farther than that though. [SPEAKER_01]: They say, I'm going to stab Ted. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to make sure that there's no other tense. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take everything that tends ever owned or thought about owning and use it for my purposes now. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to take anybody that was around Ted and make them work for me. [SPEAKER_02]: And especially in this era, like this M-thirty one era, the Black Templars actually did a lot of good for the Imperium, almost by accident. [SPEAKER_02]: Because one of the challenges you had with all of these primarks and space means doing the revenge tour is they were just going to whatever system they heard chaos was in and wrecking that system and then going to the next one. [SPEAKER_02]: They weren't conquering land they were just doing it. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templars were conquering. [SPEAKER_02]: And so as the Black Templars moved left soul and spread of the galaxy. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about one of the main things they were doing. [SPEAKER_01]: They were conquering strategic irrelevant spots to continue their crusade because of that they had resources. [SPEAKER_01]: And when we talk counter, a lot of the Marines, even some of my favorite Marines, do a very bad job of setting things up. [SPEAKER_01]: We won. [SPEAKER_01]: Cool. [SPEAKER_01]: I clicked the W button and moved on with my life. [SPEAKER_01]: They wreck the place. [SPEAKER_01]: But then they immediately built up the place and made sure everybody there was loyal and giving them strategic resources. [SPEAKER_01]: So I like it a lot. [SPEAKER_01]: You make a good reference on this. [SPEAKER_01]: It was more an Alexander the Great. [SPEAKER_01]: push where they made it so we're still getting supplies where most people are still loyal, you know, or at least the people we think are there, you know, and they're giving us everything that we need to so I can keep going that I want to keep going north, but I need to make sure that there's supply lines were constantly having new stuff for us to continue to crusade indefinitely. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, and that's why I did the Alexander Great is the best one I can think of because he went from Greece to India, you know, at a time when there were no cars. [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, he had to build, he had to conquer and build fortifications the entire way so he didn't get attacked from behind. [SPEAKER_02]: That's what the Black Templars were doing. [SPEAKER_02]: They were spreading out from a soul and making it so no one could jump in behind them. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's warp travel, so take that with, I'm probably making more of an example than I am an actual functional thing, but whatever. [SPEAKER_02]: This all changes, though, when Abadon comes out of the, I have terror with the first Black Crusade. [SPEAKER_01]: First Black, this is a huge thing, because this is a giant eye opener, because for the most part, everybody thought that chaos was dispersed. [SPEAKER_01]: All the forces of chaos were just, [SPEAKER_01]: You know, fans of it was you we wanted to kill them. [SPEAKER_01]: They were a new sense. [SPEAKER_01]: They were a problem, but they weren't organized together to do anything relevant. [SPEAKER_01]: Everybody thought, you know, however long it takes us to kill chaos, whatever, they're not going to be a problem. [SPEAKER_01]: And then Abadan became [SPEAKER_01]: Pretty big problem. [SPEAKER_02]: And then after that, you also got the resurgence of the Eldar, who kind of got their stuff together, it started getting upset. [SPEAKER_02]: The Imperium kept taking their home roads. [SPEAKER_02]: The Drew Carried jumping out of the warp to raid them. [SPEAKER_02]: Orcs, we're going to be doing a lot of Orcs as we talk through this. [SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, it's a well, well after this, the first contact with Terranids, and maybe the Tao who cares. [SPEAKER_02]: Over the millennia, the Imperium itself just realized that it too was engaged in an infinite war. [SPEAKER_02]: And for the Black Templar, they went, not what we're going to win this infinite war. [SPEAKER_02]: That was their system. [SPEAKER_02]: So jumping ahead of it, we're going to cover now. [SPEAKER_02]: The next big piece of the Black Templar, how to understand who they are, is the rise of the ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_02]: And so, whereas the Black Templar are totally okay with engaging in a ten thousand plus year struggle against every enemy of mankind, no matter how inumeral they are, humans develop war weariness. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just a fail. [SPEAKER_01]: When I'm playing Civ, it's crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: Bad my guy start performing. [SPEAKER_01]: If I stand war, sometimes my people bitch after I've been war for, you know, six thousand straight years. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what they're probably. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: So in order to combat this, the Ecclesiarchy actually copies from the Black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: And so the reason I'm covering this will make sense a second. [SPEAKER_02]: So rather than calling them wars, they begin calling them crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: And so what? [SPEAKER_02]: The reason I'm bringing this up is when we're talking about how the Black Templars are unique, and that they go on crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyone who's read Black Library books, they'll go away. [SPEAKER_02]: When I've read Gons Ghosts, they'll read Crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: When I read Hifus Kane, there's Crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: There's always Crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: They're different. [SPEAKER_02]: And so that's what I do want to make it clear. [SPEAKER_01]: It's how they phrase these two because they get, they get the populist behind them, because they are crusades for the Imperium, for the Emperor, and they [SPEAKER_01]: get people riled up basically like of course I want to do this. [SPEAKER_01]: This is bettering mankind. [SPEAKER_01]: I am part of mankind and they kind of get this ever growing crescendo wave that's just more and more people. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And the reason I want to bring this up is that there are two very different crusades. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templar Crusades are truly a crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: They are going to a place and they are going to fight until they all die or their opponents all die. [SPEAKER_02]: Full stop. [SPEAKER_02]: The imperial crusades are more political. [SPEAKER_02]: And we will discuss some of them later. [SPEAKER_02]: They may say, oh, I crusade completed whether it was completed or not. [SPEAKER_02]: Their design more as recruitment pushes. [SPEAKER_02]: So for example, when the imperial declares a crusade, it's going to be accompanied with, you know, they're going to raise regiments. [SPEAKER_02]: They're going to move. [SPEAKER_02]: They're going to move troops around. [SPEAKER_02]: It becomes a hole. [SPEAKER_02]: It's almost an industrial call. [SPEAKER_02]: Whereas when the Black Templar declared crusade, a bunch of Black Templar ships show up somewhere and begin crusading. [SPEAKER_02]: That's the thing. [SPEAKER_02]: And then the Imperium may or may not join them. [SPEAKER_02]: The sisters like to a lot. [SPEAKER_01]: So the Imperium also, the rest of the Imperium, the Navy and everything else. [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of times when they do a crusade, it is an actual, like, we're going to hear to do this job done kind of. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the, the Templars went, hey, are there still Zenos in the universe? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, looks like we're continuing on. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: And we've got these some good references to this in a little bit, but to kind of fill in some gaps here, I'm gonna talk about the structure of the Black Templar, because they are very different from other space marine legends. [SPEAKER_02]: Wildly. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So being on a crusade for ten thousand years will do this for you. [SPEAKER_02]: Can me one of the most interesting pieces is how they do their recruitment. [SPEAKER_02]: So no homeworld to pull from. [SPEAKER_02]: So the black Templars have they still have to recruit in fact they're probably taking more losses than any other Legion because they're most at war. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't I'd try to think of anyone else fights as much of the black Templar do. [SPEAKER_02]: I assume not. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, the only, the people that are the most similar to this are weirdly the death watch. [SPEAKER_02]: That would make sense here, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Because the death watch would be, would be costly deploying as well. [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, and they actually spoil the rest of my health, but guess who serves in death watch a lot? [SPEAKER_02]: The black Templars are big fans. [SPEAKER_02]: So the black Templars still have to recruit. [SPEAKER_02]: So what they do is they is, when they conquer a world, [SPEAKER_02]: They build a, what's called a keep on that world. [SPEAKER_02]: And it becomes, they keep is a local garrison to both keep the world safe. [SPEAKER_02]: So it gives them a place to fortify out of, but also becomes a mini recruitment center. [SPEAKER_02]: At these fortresses, aspirants will just basically walk up to it and ask, could join. [SPEAKER_02]: This is unlike everybody else. [SPEAKER_02]: All the other legions that might be wrong on this, but the ones that we've covered so far, they have a recruitment world. [SPEAKER_02]: They may have an event like the blood angels do, but they are chosen by the main legion there. [SPEAKER_02]: In this situation, people are volunteering. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about this though because sorry, I'm going to give some hair to see here because the black Tepler lovers are going to crush me. [SPEAKER_01]: They have to have some sort of psychic power because they just [SPEAKER_01]: grab the people come to them in waves. [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: I have a theory on this. [SPEAKER_02]: My theorem is actually, I mean, it's advertising is what I think this is. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you think they just have the best propaganda? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do, but it makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: They just have so many people show up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but if they talk about it, they have waves. [SPEAKER_01]: The populist immediately wants to be part of this. [SPEAKER_02]: It's my theory on this, and it's based actually on good amount of fact. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templars are the most famous lesion to the imperial. [SPEAKER_02]: If you think about it, if you're an imperial citizen, the Ecclesiarchy kind of runs everything. [SPEAKER_02]: If they're going to put stuff on the news, who goes on the news more than the Black Templars? [SPEAKER_01]: That's true. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's a Black Templars in the garden. [SPEAKER_02]: Those are the two people who are going to be on the news all the time. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyone can be a Guardsman. [SPEAKER_02]: So you want to be a Black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: On top of that, every one of the worlds that they have their keeps on is a world that the Black Templars [SPEAKER_02]: conquered. [SPEAKER_02]: So, yes, some of them may have been conquered against their will, but for a lot of them, it's not. [SPEAKER_02]: A lot of them, these are worlds that were under attack by chaos, by Zenos. [SPEAKER_02]: They had like a rogue, psycho who's running them, and the black Templars, the ones who showed up and killed them all, and saved the local people. [SPEAKER_02]: So there's always, I mean, they're heroes slash gods to the local populace. [SPEAKER_02]: So of course, everyone's going to volunteer to be one. [SPEAKER_02]: That's that was always my theory. [SPEAKER_02]: And so they just get four, but they do. [SPEAKER_02]: They get [SPEAKER_02]: words of volunteers. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like they have stored a lot of their stories are almost as soon as they take over the planet. [SPEAKER_01]: They just have Disney world lines of people getting ready to go in. [SPEAKER_02]: But what's cool about that, they actually, but they don't accept a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's written in the, so I, I think any guys, the Black Templar a little bit trickier to write about. [SPEAKER_02]: They've only had three code access. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, two is a third coming. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They had two. [SPEAKER_01]: There's, no, there's not. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, they've had two because they had they had the ninth edition codex and then they don't just say the ones out yet. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they had a way they had two different white door for it. [SPEAKER_02]: It was worth it, but they've had their own novels and they are major players in a lot of like that when they do novels about conflicts, they are in major players. [SPEAKER_02]: That's how we know them more. [SPEAKER_02]: So, but it's cool about just [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go into the, I just, the way that they do it, I, it doesn't make a little sense though, because they basically say they barely take anybody out of this. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that they basically take these people and let it win, then ween them down after, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because all of these guys, they, they accept five recruits, a year kind of thing. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that there was a couple hundred and they threw testing and everything else got weeded down to five. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not like they just chose. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, this is Ronnie Bobby Ricky and Mike and said, you know, go, you're in there. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the truth is this is the classic GW math. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, even if there are a thousand black Templar worlds, they can't go all five or crutes because only one of those five will survive. [SPEAKER_02]: So they would give them a thousand space marines a year, which is a lot except for the fact that they're engaged in conflict every minute of every day, everywhere. [SPEAKER_02]: So they're losing more than that. [SPEAKER_02]: They would actually become an extinct Legion. [SPEAKER_02]: So they also because they send out their neophytes. [SPEAKER_01]: These are people that just aren't even done. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, let's actually get to the neophyte. [SPEAKER_02]: So there's the kind of clean this up a little, just real quick. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the chapter keeps accept volunteers effectively. [SPEAKER_02]: The volunteers come in and we, the blood angels we see in this, there's some trials by combat. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like everything happens and then they decide, yes, these people can make it and they give them the gene seed right there in the chapter. [SPEAKER_02]: Keep. [SPEAKER_02]: From the chapter keep those where this gets goofy. [SPEAKER_02]: Once they've gotten about once a keep has about one to your so of these, you know, we're called Neophytes, because the term, the Neophytes, those we didn't listen to earlier cast, that's the term for somebody who's an aspiring spaceman. [SPEAKER_02]: They've had the gene seeds put into them. [SPEAKER_02]: They've had initial training, but they haven't been, they haven't finalized their training. [SPEAKER_02]: At that stage. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the trials. [SPEAKER_01]: Every Marine chapter has its own trials to be a full-fledged Marine. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Some of them are weird. [SPEAKER_02]: Just candidly. [SPEAKER_02]: Some of them are weird. [SPEAKER_02]: So these Neo fights, so they take the twenty of them or so, and they just pack them on a ship and send them to a crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: They just, that's it. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, you are going to land, get off the plane, and combat is tomorrow. [SPEAKER_02]: The Neo fights once they arrive, they're assigned to what's called an initiate, which is their term for space marine or within the Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is what I love of the Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: The initiate, each Neo fight gets assigned to one initiate, you know, advice versa. [SPEAKER_02]: The initiate is then provides one-on-one instruction and mentorship, both in training on the battlefield, but also in everything else, as they're deployed together. [SPEAKER_02]: They fight it side by side. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they don't just fight side by side, but they give them exactly what it means to be a black-templar. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, what it really means for the imperial truth. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're trying to do. [SPEAKER_01]: This is why we're doing it. [SPEAKER_01]: But also these guys are fighting. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, one of my favorite things about this and why I was kind of excited to do the Black Templar part of the cast is on the board. [SPEAKER_01]: They do these things in the game. [SPEAKER_01]: They have these mix squads and they really the Lord really take a shape on the board. [SPEAKER_02]: When you play Black Templars, your squads are fifty-fifty. [SPEAKER_02]: Half of them are initiates, half of them are neophytes. [SPEAKER_02]: That is just the way it's written. [SPEAKER_02]: And the rules have changed a little bit. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm interested to see what they do in tenth edition with it. [SPEAKER_02]: But that's how they're designed. [SPEAKER_02]: The cool thing about this is the initiate decides when the Neo fights ready to be promoted. [SPEAKER_02]: So where I love this is that the black Templars are trained not by a master or a chaplain or some present. [SPEAKER_02]: They're trained by other by the soldier next to them. [SPEAKER_02]: So if you've read or watched all quiet in the Western front, you'll get what I'm referring to. [SPEAKER_02]: It makes much better soldiers. [SPEAKER_02]: So, fun story though on the Neophytes. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is a fun story about GW having to sell models. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, hold on. [SPEAKER_01]: I won't hold please. [SPEAKER_01]: Boo. [SPEAKER_01]: So this is fun. [SPEAKER_02]: Continue for the because the Neo fights are deployed with the squads. [SPEAKER_02]: The black Templars don't have scouts because normally the scouts as we've as I've teased Brad for before because Brad likes to use scouts to screen out opponents are child soldiers used by the space marines and that that Brad sacrifices this cannon fodder. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, [SPEAKER_02]: the black Templar don't do this except they kind of do now. [SPEAKER_02]: So in the lore, there are no scots, but in the books and the codex is sometimes they'll take the neophytes will take on the role of a scout marine. [SPEAKER_02]: And how this manifests itself is that if you play Black Templars, you can run space marine scouts that are Black Templar scouts. [SPEAKER_02]: Even though there are no scouts in Black Templar, it's the same with the heavy weapon squads. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, Black Templar or melee army. [SPEAKER_02]: They're not supposed to have heavy weapons, but if you want to run a devastating squad or an eradicate or squad, I mean, you can. [SPEAKER_02]: You're just not supposed to. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but no cikers. [SPEAKER_02]: No cikers. [SPEAKER_02]: You can. [SPEAKER_02]: No cikers. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll get them in a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: There's more differences in the way they structure, beyond just a neophyte thing. [SPEAKER_02]: So one, another thing I love, they don't have sergeants. [SPEAKER_02]: Every squad, usually when you play space Marines, one of your, one member of your squad is a sergeant, and if you're someone like me, you always forget what it is, and then you actually pull the wrong model. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a master of that. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I longer have their special weapon. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have been doing that for twenty years. [SPEAKER_02]: So just the way I like to play this. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is also consistently put him in the middle. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's for no reason. [SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea. [SPEAKER_02]: I, I, this is why I think I want to play Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that the sergeant problem goes away for me. [SPEAKER_02]: The reason they don't have sergeants is because the black templars just promote anyone who stands out into the next tier up. [SPEAKER_02]: So instead, all top performing initiates who would normally become a sergeant actually form a different squad called sword brethren. [SPEAKER_02]: Space Marine regular space means kind of have this in space marine veteran squads, but the sword brethren are in elite, they're only in a black templar. [SPEAKER_02]: And they're honestly, they're just cooler than a regular space marine sergeant. [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, just gonna call it out. [SPEAKER_01]: No brother, they're bad ass by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they are pretty bad ass in the game, too. [SPEAKER_01]: But they have a wild way because they don't promote these guys and then do a ceremony or go back to anywhere because they're losing people kind of left and right because they're fighting the way that they fight does just kind of lead to casualties, right up on top of people. [SPEAKER_01]: So they do field promotions to different styles, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, and the sword brethren are the ones, so the, and the, what Brad's discussing is perfect here, in the, in the sword brethren, actually become the Marshall. [SPEAKER_02]: So should the Marshall die on the, in the crusade, a sword brethren steps up into that role. [SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, this is, we're talking, when we say crusades, again, these guys aren't running downhill on opponents. [SPEAKER_02]: They're, a, a black Templar crusade might involve a craft world. [SPEAKER_02]: It might, you know, it could easily involve the beginnings of an orc law or a full-blown orc law. [SPEAKER_02]: They lose people, but the crusade must go on. [SPEAKER_02]: And so the crusade, so, and what I love about this, the sword brethren, is when a sword brethren needs to get promoted, they've kept the old tradition of the imperial fists with the Templar, in which all the sword brethren who want to take up the mantle of Marshall enter a one v one tournament, not to the death. [SPEAKER_00]: And nobody say, you know, that's a big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: If you remember a serious man, he's not talking about. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep. [SPEAKER_02]: Not to the depth. [SPEAKER_02]: There's no value. [SPEAKER_02]: There's no reason to kill a brother over an honor duel. [SPEAKER_02]: And so at the end of it, whoever wins this one v one tournament is the new marshal. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anyone else does this, although I want to believe the space worlds would. [SPEAKER_01]: But at least we have a couple of different things about that. [SPEAKER_01]: They do contests, but they're not even just street contests. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, comment. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's made the space wolves. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure the space wolves do this. [SPEAKER_02]: But I don't think it's like to get promoted. [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just Saturday is tournament day. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: But so that's also the second way I want to do a Marshall. [SPEAKER_02]: And I want to get into what Marshalls are because Marshalls have the same general title, but a very different function. [SPEAKER_02]: So a Marshall is at its core, a captain. [SPEAKER_02]: You look at space marine armies. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a same, it's in rank. [SPEAKER_02]: It's the same as a captain. [SPEAKER_02]: But in function, it's massively different because of one word and that word is autonomy. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, it's autonomy, but also he's expected to build fortresses and make new place, new recruitment centers effectively and continue effectively giving them supply lines as they continue and push their crusade. [SPEAKER_01]: So this guy has a ton of stuff on his plate besides being the war leader [SPEAKER_01]: you don't need you have to go hey man here's the plans for these fourteen buildings and how are we getting all our supplies how you know it's he's a lead has to be a logistics master also effectively exactly and that's what makes the marshals so cool because the marshals going to be often on the other side of the galaxy from what's called the high marshal [SPEAKER_02]: So to Brad's point, this person's in charge of all their own recruitment, that is not something a captain normally is dealing with. [SPEAKER_02]: The captain, you know, will ask for it, but they're not in charge of actually organizing their own logistics for recruitment. [SPEAKER_02]: He's also going to be in charge of his own fleet. [SPEAKER_02]: He's going to, like, everything is there. [SPEAKER_02]: The marshals are this, because the way it's set up is, and we'll explain why in a minute, each black Templar crusade is almost an independent army. [SPEAKER_02]: So that's what they say. [SPEAKER_01]: They're basically chapter masters. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they are. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: They're a captain, but they're truly a chapter master. [SPEAKER_02]: And because, and this is partly because we'll jump into this. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, it's some of the size differences we're talking about. [SPEAKER_02]: Because the Black Templars, they're decentralized, but they're still somewhat centralized. [SPEAKER_02]: The closest example I have here is death watch. [SPEAKER_02]: The death watcher are spread all around the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: independent bodies doing stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: They still report back their information, but they act, they act and they go. [SPEAKER_02]: So the Marshall is probably, yet, closest to a death watch cap. [SPEAKER_02]: Watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch watch [SPEAKER_02]: However, the high marshal of the Black Templar has one more important task, and that is to keep the inquisition as far away from them as they possibly can. [SPEAKER_02]: not in the same way that the dark angels are, but the same effect because they don't want to get destroyed. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit easier now because of the fact that when Bobby G.K. [SPEAKER_01]: back, he effectively threw off the codex of studies. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the codex of studies says a chapter must number one thousand or less full-fledged space marines that doesn't count. [SPEAKER_01]: The basically would be the unified scenario. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's a thousand active members and the black Templars are wildly more than that. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Black Templars are estimated to be at least six thousand. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is the way the reason it's more. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not counting all the the effights and stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: Of course. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_02]: That's just the space marines. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is because they're spread out throughout the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's impossible. [SPEAKER_02]: for the impairing him to keep track of their size because you would literally be taking like yearlong journeys from one spot of the galaxy to the other to count them. [SPEAKER_02]: So there's no way to do it. [SPEAKER_02]: The only person who knows the true number is the high martial and he is not letting anyone know this. [SPEAKER_02]: for good reasons, because just for reference, at six thousand space marines, they're probably the black Templar probably as large if not larger than the space wolves and dark angels who are not codex compliant. [SPEAKER_02]: They never broke their legions up. [SPEAKER_01]: That is insane. [SPEAKER_01]: I still think it's way more than that to be honest with you because I would say it's double and triple because you had to remember like in the original, you know, the original legions we're fighting with. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just south of a hundred thousand and they're running around with what they think it's about six thousand, but they don't count any, you have to immediately double it because they don't count any of the neophytes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but they also don't count all of the support guys that could or could not deem Marines that go along with this, you know. [SPEAKER_02]: By fair part of this is that the black Templars are a sub-faction that's at least five times larger. [SPEAKER_02]: No, by ten to twenty times larger than its founding chapter. [SPEAKER_02]: That's you, sorry. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Just calling it out, the Black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: So the Black Templar, you know, we talked about, I, I joked in a sister's cast that it's so easy to make sisters, we should just use only sisters because we have millions of them apparently and we can't make that many space marines. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, you can make a bunch of Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: So let's just do that and reconquer the government. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it'll be the least fun galaxy on earth because it's going to be run by black, black and this sister's a battle. [SPEAKER_02]: Not exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like a lot of high-flute and party times. [SPEAKER_02]: The next group I want to talk about within the Black Templar dates back to Sigismund. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's the Emperor's champion. [SPEAKER_01]: They continue to that to this day. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: The Emperor's champion is maybe the most important member in a crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is because the Emperor's champion is in effect a super soldier within the Black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: they are imbued with the power of the emperor. [SPEAKER_02]: And I always like to, let's all, I'll explain this and I'll dive into my opinion on it. [SPEAKER_02]: So the way this, an emperor's champion is created is that all Black Templar and the eve of a battle meditate and think about, you know, and prepare for what's coming ahead. [SPEAKER_02]: Every now and then, one of them will feel like the touch of the emperor. [SPEAKER_02]: Basically, in their meditation, they'll have the emperor will come speak to them. [SPEAKER_02]: They then get up and they go see their chaplain and tell the chaplain here is what happened. [SPEAKER_02]: And here's my vision. [SPEAKER_02]: And if the chaplain agrees, this is a true vision, then they get to dawn, a special weapon. [SPEAKER_02]: It's the armor of faith and the black sword. [SPEAKER_02]: And they're going to leave the chaplain. [SPEAKER_01]: Which car of the weaponry? [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, that is the weaponry, the symbolic weaponry of the Emperor's champion. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is more, we say this, this kind of stuff always, I think sometimes sounds like, oh, okay, so some guy claims he had an evasion blah blah. [SPEAKER_02]: This is real. [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about this in the sisters a lot more. [SPEAKER_02]: The Emperor does actually reach out and have an effect. [SPEAKER_02]: in the forty-first millennium his he is not like he's he's in tomb but he's not dead he is able to reach out he's able to make contact he has he does turn the tides of battle all of these been boring up for eleven thousand years so our ring up they've been shoving power into him i may [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not even talking about that. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about the fact that all the prayers and everything else become reality because the warp exists. [SPEAKER_02]: That's true. [SPEAKER_01]: The warp entity of the Emperor, he emperors on the golden throne. [SPEAKER_01]: The shadow of the Emperor and the warp is a big ol' shadow. [SPEAKER_02]: He's cast it far. [SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, so these emperors champions really are in view and they fight with the power of Sigismund. [SPEAKER_02]: And the important thing about this is, like, like, we talked about the blood angels, where, you know, the black rage over comes them. [SPEAKER_02]: So the idea is on the battle, they're going to actually go, they're going to go first in the battle, but they're going to die that day and we'll have another one and we'll get some more in the next battle. [SPEAKER_00]: No, and the opposite. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, an emperors champion will serve for, for, could serve for decades as, as the head of the thing, it, and when then emperors champion dies in combat, it's viewed as a very bad omen for what's to come because it means that the emperors, the emperors light is no longer upon the crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: and in battle, by the way, on the tabletop, these guys are good in the lore, these guys are insane. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, because they instantly go, they're basically, they are crusader. [SPEAKER_01]: They're Cavaliers, if you're going D&D, they call out the largest foes from the opposing side. [SPEAKER_01]: They're fighting giant monsters. [SPEAKER_01]: Huge behemoth. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a story of one to take out the files. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you don't know what the file is, Google Forty K. Defiler, and know one of these guys took that down with a power sword. [SPEAKER_02]: This is not, these guys do not screw around. [SPEAKER_02]: One key part though about the Black Templars is what they don't have. [SPEAKER_02]: It is a funny piece of the story. [SPEAKER_02]: They don't have librarians at all. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, they don't have them, but we get to the minute second. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templars, they do this because they believe the powers of the warp corrupt. [SPEAKER_02]: Most of their crusades are dealing with beings who've been corrupted by the warp. [SPEAKER_02]: Chaos, Eldar, Imperial colonies, and revolt, etc. [SPEAKER_02]: So they have no psychers in their army with a few exceptions. [SPEAKER_02]: And I like the exceptions. [SPEAKER_00]: Because we have to get places. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I like the exceptions. [SPEAKER_02]: Because the first one is so astronauts and navigators, they don't consider them psychers. [SPEAKER_02]: I've had this debate with people before. [SPEAKER_02]: Save of you. [SPEAKER_02]: It's hypocritical, where it's like, oh, no cyclists, but those ones are okay. [SPEAKER_01]: But they're not that they don't manipulate the war exactly into the war. [SPEAKER_01]: They can see it. [SPEAKER_01]: They're based they're actually really good. [SPEAKER_01]: I've always [SPEAKER_01]: to be fair, I've always wondered why they didn't use these guys in other roles, basically as detectors. [SPEAKER_01]: If you have this guy rolling with you, they would see other psychers. [SPEAKER_01]: You could immediately put some justice on those guys. [SPEAKER_02]: Probably because they're all kind of insane. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's also true. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so like every constantly. [SPEAKER_01]: So you constantly see waking nightmares everywhere you go. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, blah, blah, blah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, get over it. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go through a walk through this busy crowds. [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell me who and here's a psych or just fall into a ball in the ground screaming and crying. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, cool. [SPEAKER_02]: You're going to do that. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, I never mind. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll try again. [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, to ask your pets and navigators. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: The other group that's totally okay with them are the grainites. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is again, this is not hypocritical. [SPEAKER_02]: This is because the black Templar know what the grainites are. [SPEAKER_02]: The grainites are imbued with the emperor's gene seed. [SPEAKER_02]: And the black Templar is their genes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is the kind of a fan of the emperor. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you're literally a child of the being I care about most. [SPEAKER_02]: In history, no Grey Knight has ever fallen to corruption. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templar say, we can trust you with your powers. [SPEAKER_02]: And so they actually will regularly deploy with the Grey Knights to fight chaos. [SPEAKER_02]: And the Black Templar are overjoyed to have them at their side. [SPEAKER_02]: My guarantee to you, the Grey Knights are super happy to have the Black Templar with their side. [SPEAKER_02]: Does that mean I can run a Black Templar and Grey Knight army bread? [SPEAKER_01]: You know, you definitely could run a death watch with a crap ton of black Templars shoulder pads. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they send a bananas amount. [SPEAKER_02]: I do have that watch. [SPEAKER_02]: This is the funny part of the cycle story. [SPEAKER_02]: So the one problem that all the black Templars have. [SPEAKER_02]: Remember, the black Templars, when we say they don't like psychers, we don't mean, hey, it's written down. [SPEAKER_02]: You can't have psychers like, you know, those guys in the face. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this isn't one of those things like, oh, yeah, yeah, if someone else is watching don't do it, but yeah, they're kind of good guys, right? [SPEAKER_02]: No, this is I hate them. [SPEAKER_02]: My soul hates them. [SPEAKER_02]: And then you join the death watch and you have to hang out with them because the death watch used librarians and I just the time. [SPEAKER_02]: And this makes me laugh because I keep thinking about like some scene where like, there's a librarian from like, you know, the ultra marines or wherever it is. [SPEAKER_02]: It just wakes up in the middle of the night. [SPEAKER_02]: And the black tampoc just above him holding a sword like just what? [SPEAKER_02]: What? [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I was like, I could just see them constantly trying to kill. [SPEAKER_01]: I baked a cake for you. [SPEAKER_01]: You should eat it. [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody else eat this cake. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you should eat this. [SPEAKER_02]: What's the, what's the scene in super troopers? [SPEAKER_02]: Not that coffee. [SPEAKER_02]: That was for rabbit. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just nonstop. [SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't matter, but it's a funny story. [SPEAKER_02]: But let's now dive into the history of the Black Templars, which is where they really stand up. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to go back all the way to the beginning. [SPEAKER_02]: The imperial fists are broken up. [SPEAKER_02]: And right basically day of second founding, Sigisman goes, all right, we're going to crusade everybody. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And they had our, let's do this. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're doing this. [SPEAKER_02]: And they have to dot a tele system, which I assume it was purple. [SPEAKER_02]: Come on. [SPEAKER_02]: That's a good one. [SPEAKER_02]: That's a good one. [SPEAKER_02]: That was that was deep. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: The black Templars go out there to deal with the nightlords and they actually successfully corner the nightlords out there and kill every single one full full stop. [SPEAKER_02]: They are the system is liberated from chaos. [SPEAKER_02]: Next, the black Templars are crusading and they have to go to Kenya because Abadon has appeared. [SPEAKER_02]: This one doesn't go great. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's weird. [SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't go great, but it actually is fantastic. [SPEAKER_01]: So Abbott also gets what of the biggest shit talk lines of all time. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this is amazing. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: So Siggasman goes because Abadans there and Siggasman and Abadan [SPEAKER_02]: finally have their duel. [SPEAKER_02]: And Sigisman really wants to kill Abadan. [SPEAKER_02]: And Abadan actually doesn't really care that much about Sigisman or being honest. [SPEAKER_02]: He's going to kill him because he's in peril, but the hate here is much more one side than the other. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I was saying it's a really one side. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, if they do, we talked about it last one, but Abadan [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Siggasman does running through, but Abidon is juiced up by chaos. [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't die. [SPEAKER_01]: And he doesn't just run in three, also stabs him through the chest to your side. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Abidon has an abid hermit at scar from being stabbed by Siggasman. [SPEAKER_02]: Aberdon also did have the talents of Horace though, and Sigisman didn't have a good defense to that. [SPEAKER_01]: But this gives me so much joy at this because Sigisman gets hot down by the talents of Horace. [SPEAKER_01]: But as he's about to die, basically does full eye contact with Abadad. [SPEAKER_01]: And Basib, you will die your weekly father died, solace, honorless weeping in a shame. [SPEAKER_01]: And he's just like, hey, man, too soon. [SPEAKER_02]: I think, by the way, he died and Aberdon, to Aberdon's got out on that took his body and then carved the message in it and the sword and the sentit back to Terra. [SPEAKER_02]: So this did go both ways. [SPEAKER_01]: This, though, both of them went, yeah, but it's always been pretty hardcore as far as that we went over that. [SPEAKER_01]: There was never a time when he was a chill guy. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, but this launches the Black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: The death of Sigassman is not taken as a, oh, no, we failed. [SPEAKER_02]: What are we doing? [SPEAKER_02]: It actually invigorates. [SPEAKER_02]: the chapter to be more anti chaos to believe in themselves more because the fact that these guys would come out of the eye of terror do this much damage tells us that we are on the righteous path to destroy them. [SPEAKER_01]: and anyone that stands with them, or who would be possibly be corrupted by that? [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: The next big piece of black template, we're actually going to skip over. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's the war of the beast. [SPEAKER_02]: That's because we actually have a cast coming up in a few weeks, guys. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get into the war of the beast, rather than just do it here, we're going to go hard into war of the beast. [SPEAKER_02]: Instead, we're going to jump a bit further into something called the Howling. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is the first [SPEAKER_02]: crusade where the billet black Templars really got to be the black Templars now. [SPEAKER_01]: And I like this because on the table, so this is a big thing because the the vow is an actual their effect of casting a spell even though they're not psychists. [SPEAKER_01]: They get powered up by this. [SPEAKER_01]: And on the table top, it's awesome because you've checked to choose a vowel per battle. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So fight with your Black Turbler. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's jump into this. [SPEAKER_02]: The emperor's champion who we discussed earlier leads the chapter in the vowel before the battle. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's a sacred litany, like just like among the guardsmen's do. [SPEAKER_02]: And you could say, well, that's just what actually work. [SPEAKER_02]: The guards and the ones work. [SPEAKER_02]: How many times did you guys play it against an imperial guard player who says his litany's? [SPEAKER_02]: because just saying, if they do, if they do, if they do, you're probably losing value. [SPEAKER_02]: They just let, you know, best weapons in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: So the Black Templar wants to Brad's point. [SPEAKER_02]: They're really work on a tabletop, and they actually, this is one of the best parts of Lord of Table Top, I've seen in the Space Marines. [SPEAKER_02]: So the vows are, is accept any challenge no matter the odds. [SPEAKER_02]: This has always, they've only had rules three times, guys. [SPEAKER_02]: So this always has given a boost to hand-to-hand combat damage. [SPEAKER_02]: Either increasing damage, increasing armor penetration, it's one of those two, but it makes it so you can fight through and do more damage to your enemy. [SPEAKER_02]: The next one is uphold the honor of the emperor, which makes them immune to fear and more resistance to damage. [SPEAKER_02]: So they're still not paying. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I like that the next two, though, because they're specific to what they're fighting. [SPEAKER_02]: You like the next two, because the only two we ever seen in one planet tabletop. [SPEAKER_01]: They used the people have done up all the out of the upper, the first codex. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess we have a fight in the first or more recently. [SPEAKER_02]: It's always, it has always been that this next one or the last one if you're playing against Cyprus. [SPEAKER_02]: So the first one is suffer not the unclean to live. [SPEAKER_02]: awesome, great name. [SPEAKER_02]: And this makes the Templar a lot more lethal in hand to hand combat. [SPEAKER_02]: So the differences with our first one did more damage. [SPEAKER_02]: These ones they hit more. [SPEAKER_02]: Now they have sustained in tenth edition. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll see what we get in the codex. [SPEAKER_02]: But they they wall up into you. [SPEAKER_02]: And I can tell you in ninth edition, when someone was running suffer not the unclean to live and they charged you, it sucked. [SPEAKER_01]: If you're running a specific army though, you know, you really don't like to see when you're running our sneakers. [SPEAKER_02]: Or the witch destroy the witch man. [SPEAKER_02]: I missed this part of the game. [SPEAKER_02]: I missed on the tabletop having auto wins. [SPEAKER_02]: So there was a period of time in ninth edition when thousands of sons were really good. [SPEAKER_02]: really, really, really good. [SPEAKER_02]: Unless they played Black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: And Black Templar would run up horror the witch, destroy the witch. [SPEAKER_02]: And they would basically shrug off all the psychic damage. [SPEAKER_02]: And he got a four upfield, no pain. [SPEAKER_02]: And I was going to plus the damage I want to say, too. [SPEAKER_02]: It was horrifying. [SPEAKER_02]: I think right now, right now, if you run this, I think you get all these anti-psychre lethal. [SPEAKER_02]: anti-psych or four plus. [SPEAKER_02]: So again, you play into an army that's all psychers. [SPEAKER_02]: You auto wound them on a four every time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I like this a lot because you can, I want them to be more specific. [SPEAKER_01]: They did a little bit better right now. [SPEAKER_01]: They're fine and tense, but like, [SPEAKER_01]: in nine, these were very specific. [SPEAKER_02]: I want that. [SPEAKER_01]: I like the flavor of it. [SPEAKER_01]: I want that. [SPEAKER_01]: And it made your army. [SPEAKER_01]: It made a big deal. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a huge ceremony that takes place. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: These guys do this and psych up specifically to defeat. [SPEAKER_01]: What did in their holy crusade, we are going to beat this, and they actually get power from the emperor. [SPEAKER_02]: That last bit's the key, but they get power from the emperor, because what we're talking here is the colexied heresy, which was a wild story. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's as the result, there's one alien cyborg, cyborg, because GW, when they decide to make something, they go hog wild in the late eighties references. [SPEAKER_02]: So cyborg, cyborg, probably also mutant, from outer space. [SPEAKER_02]: There we go. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, check every box. [SPEAKER_02]: And the name was Kakodominus, because why not? [SPEAKER_02]: Kakodominus was such a powerful siker that he was able to control thirteen hundred planetary systems, which is bananas, which means, yeah, that's like, this is what the emperor used to when he would walk around. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not Emperor can go further, but this is big. [SPEAKER_02]: And again, because I'm me and I have Google when I wrote this thing, I decided to look this up. [SPEAKER_02]: The average distance between a star system in the Milky Way is five light years. [SPEAKER_02]: So if you're talking, thirteen hundred planetary systems, we're looking at probably close to a thousand light years span. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be honest, I want to get the exact number, but I haven't taken calculus in about a little over twenty years, and I just couldn't do it. [SPEAKER_02]: I tried guys that someone's definitely discordant and tell me what the actual distance would be in a thirteen hundred planet, a thirteen hundred system gap in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: I actually would love to know. [SPEAKER_02]: You can send me a direct message. [SPEAKER_02]: I just, I tried doing that math and got very ashamed. [SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, the Imperium newware Kakodamus was. [SPEAKER_02]: but they couldn't get there because traveling through like all these light years to the home planet, I think the most powerful cycle in the galaxy and killing him, wasn't a possibility unless up for the witch destroy the witch. [SPEAKER_01]: And they took some serious casualties, but they also [SPEAKER_01]: effectively just took off his psychic attacks. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, he couldn't dominate them. [SPEAKER_02]: That was the big thing. [SPEAKER_02]: What his big power was, he would psychically, he turned you into a thrall, and the black Templars couldn't be thralled. [SPEAKER_02]: And so they fought their whole way there, and his skull now sits in one of the ships, and one of the black Templars ships. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, [SPEAKER_02]: The funny story of this is that, well, it's like two things. [SPEAKER_02]: One, let me say that one. [SPEAKER_02]: Other imperial agents had tried this and failed. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, I, we should note that this was in M-thirty Four. [SPEAKER_02]: So the Sisters of Silence weren't really a fighting force. [SPEAKER_02]: They probably could have been equally useful here just throw a bunch of blanks at them and let's see what happens. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, they did kind of have some collateral damage here. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the funny note is that when they killed Kakodamus, his brain effectively exploded in the warp and created such a blinding flash that blocked out the astronomical for some period of time, they don't tell how long they do tell, they do say millions of ships crashed because of this. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, it probably cost billions of lives killing him. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, oops, oops. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Then we move into about M. Thirty-five. [SPEAKER_02]: And M. Thirty-five is when the Black Templar begins shifting to being a bit more of a religious force. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's also because let's, they, they shift to be more of a religious force and have a religious focus on it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I also think that's because the imperium itself becomes focused on the ecclesiarchy and they, and they keep filling their ranks with more and more of these very religious, I mean, the imperium is just, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And I will say this Black Templar fans make it upset about this. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually not sure if the Black Templar necessarily actually shifted anything in this period or just the Imperium shifted their propaganda machine to be more aligned with the Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: It may be the Black Templars went through no change at this moment between this. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templars of M-IV-I might be identical to the Black Templars of M-IV-I, but the way that the Imperium describes them or interacts them may have shifted. [SPEAKER_02]: But a couple of key instance happened to kind of lead into this. [SPEAKER_02]: The first one is what's called the barbarous incursion, which is purged from imperial records. [SPEAKER_02]: All that we know about it is that the black Templars and the Grey Knights fought some demons. [SPEAKER_02]: And they won and wiped the entire demon incursion out. [SPEAKER_01]: but you're not a lot to talk to and let people know that chaos exists. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because this again, this is before in modern forty k people, no chaos exists. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they broke the sky. [SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of this. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and M. thirty four, they did. [SPEAKER_02]: So that's why it's it's an early redacted piece, but what's important about the redacted is that the thought is that usually at this era as we discussed in the first war of arm again, [SPEAKER_02]: the inquisition within wipe out anyone who saw this. [SPEAKER_02]: Not the Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone who, they all fought the demons and went, okay, I'll just keep stabbing demons, though. [SPEAKER_02]: Are there more demons? [SPEAKER_02]: Where else can we go to stab demons? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm in. [SPEAKER_02]: And the great nights are probably like these guys, these guys are A, okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Where things get spicier is on the wars of apostasy. [SPEAKER_02]: So this is Goge Vendier. [SPEAKER_02]: So Goge Vendier rises the power, takes over the Ecclesiarchy, brings his sister a battle, yeah, and creates a civil war within the Imperium. [SPEAKER_01]: what I love so messy that the black Templars go. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, man, what is going on here? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's so much to be messing shit up a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, and go, you messed up real bad. [SPEAKER_02]: The story's funny to me because the bread's point, message you're coming out to everyone saying, Hey, there's something wrong back at terror, like really wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: And so the black Templars go fine, and they start to head back to terror, like what's going on here? [SPEAKER_02]: And as they get back into this, it's actually when they into a system, or even on terror, yeah, into the system, they go to stop off at one of their keeps to kind of just say high and high five each other, I guess. [SPEAKER_02]: And they get there and the keep has been destroyed from an orbital bombardment ordered by Goge. [SPEAKER_02]: And at that point, the black Templars got on the radio. [SPEAKER_01]: I was saying, hold on, you should, yeah, just a time to do the meme on it. [SPEAKER_01]: And they took that personally. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they took that very personally. [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, the Black Templar put in the call of, hey, there's this guy on Terra, and he needs his ass kicked real bad. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_02]: And so the Black Templar has come in mass to Terra, along with obviously the imperial fists and a few others. [SPEAKER_02]: They end up, they're the ones who seeded the fortress on Terra. [SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, they didn't get the ability to kill Goge because Goge is killed by the sisters after they had met the emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: It followed out exactly that he was not for the emperor and they said, we took that personally. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't terrible things to go. [SPEAKER_02]: But a couple of key pieces that come out of this moment though. [SPEAKER_02]: So Goge obviously is dead. [SPEAKER_02]: There's a there's a reformation within the church of the of the Ecclesiarchy. [SPEAKER_02]: He'll have big pieces. [SPEAKER_02]: First, the Black Templars get their new best friend, the sisters. [SPEAKER_02]: These two are, this is peanut butter and jelly, or whatever you guys eat, not in the US. [SPEAKER_02]: Heming cheese. [SPEAKER_02]: There we go. [SPEAKER_02]: But it perfect. [SPEAKER_02]: In addition, the Ecclesiarchy begins to much more establish this point as a positive force in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: And with the new imperial creed, they begin utilizing the Black Templar as an example of the success of the power of the emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is also kind of why I think that there's wildly more blight Templars than that six thousand and everything else because the black Templars become the poster children for what's going on. [SPEAKER_01]: So they get pushed, I think they also, and it doesn't show up as much on the board in Forty K. But when you read the books and stuff, black Templars show up with a giant amount of auxiliary everything else. [SPEAKER_01]: But sisters, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I view this era. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's weird that my brain is by go to like the nineteen forties news reels. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't do the voice guys. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, like that kind of reel of like the black, the black Templar. [SPEAKER_02]: I've conquered the Salarsia system and you see a bunch of black Templar holding people's heads up and smiling for the camera. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's to me, that's what that's what the police are doing with them could be fair. [SPEAKER_02]: That's exactly what the black Templar are doing. [SPEAKER_02]: They're not smiling, but they're totally just chopping heads off of heretics and holding it up and saying, Oh, look. [SPEAKER_02]: This one's also not a heretic anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: Next problem. [SPEAKER_02]: These two are perfect for each other. [SPEAKER_02]: But, and I will again, I want to defend the Black Templars here. [SPEAKER_02]: They're not true allies with the ecclesia. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God, no. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not run at all by the ecclesiai. [SPEAKER_01]: They answer, hold on. [SPEAKER_01]: Let me look in the mirror real quick. [SPEAKER_01]: That's who I answer to. [SPEAKER_01]: Cool. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's keep going. [SPEAKER_01]: And it has come back for the poor ecclesiai. [SPEAKER_01]: They've gotten a few times in the bottom. [SPEAKER_02]: So they have my viewpoints, the Black Templar view, the Ecclesiarchy, more as the enemy of my enemy is my friend. [SPEAKER_02]: The Ecclesiarchy is nice, but I don't report to you, and also I don't trust you. [SPEAKER_02]: And there's actually been some funny much to Brad's point. [SPEAKER_02]: What are the ones I like was the Benedictine War? [SPEAKER_02]: And the Benedictine War was a conflict where it was a crusade into the Benedictine system, which is where a bunch of L-Dar were. [SPEAKER_02]: I believe there was X-Dite, so I'm not a hundred percent pretty sure there was an X-Dite system. [SPEAKER_02]: And the Black Templar, along with the Sisters of Battle, Imperial Guard, Imperial Navy, and a bunch more deploy out there. [SPEAKER_02]: And the wars are grinder. [SPEAKER_02]: They're just, it's massive casualties on both sides. [SPEAKER_02]: And about half way into the war, the Ecclesiarchy just says, we did it, guys. [SPEAKER_02]: We've achieved our goal. [SPEAKER_02]: The emperor is proud of us. [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone can go home. [SPEAKER_02]: Nice job. [SPEAKER_02]: And the Templar looked around and went, yeah, I could still see Eldar. [SPEAKER_02]: So, and then not ain't going out like that. [SPEAKER_02]: And the police are like, no, it's okay. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, and this is one of what basically didn't command them to stop, but they said, no, the crew say it's over and the black Templar went like hell, it is. [SPEAKER_01]: And the black Templar said a strongly worded email that the Templars immediately did not open. [SPEAKER_02]: and then the Black Templar proceeded to kill every Eldar in the entire system and declare their own victory at the end of it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like that story. [SPEAKER_02]: But this era, one of my favorite parts of this is also a great disappointment of my own. [SPEAKER_02]: So this era of the Black Templar gives me my favorite model in the entire game. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's rules have always been bad. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, twenty years probably. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it has not. [SPEAKER_01]: It holds more guys. [SPEAKER_01]: It's still later in a crusaders used to be boss mode hurricane pollders when named edition fifth. [SPEAKER_02]: There we go. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so fine decade and a half you do you step away from [SPEAKER_02]: land-rated. [SPEAKER_02]: I love the land that we're a crusader. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, so the Templars are crusading. [SPEAKER_02]: They've hit a high world and it's rebuilt. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a human world and rebellion. [SPEAKER_02]: And they've gotten pretty far but they've reached the final high and they cannot get in there because there's just hordes of soldiers and the fortifications they can't get in through. [SPEAKER_02]: The transports that they had just wouldn't work. [SPEAKER_02]: The rhinos and the razor backs were too lightly armored and the land raiders that they were using just didn't have enough capacity. [SPEAKER_01]: So even though they can get somewhere, only a few troops could then get out until they take those last cannons off, you got so much more room. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, for activities. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, so much more for activities. [SPEAKER_02]: So the Landrider Crusader, which again is my favorite model in the game. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, it probably is an entire game, actually. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just awesome. [SPEAKER_02]: It's got about fifty percent more capacity, although not under current roles. [SPEAKER_02]: Now it has like two or more. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, who cares? [SPEAKER_02]: Who cares? [SPEAKER_02]: How did it hold more? [SPEAKER_02]: in ninth edition. [SPEAKER_01]: And he forgot bigger man. [SPEAKER_01]: It just eat more. [SPEAKER_01]: She's just like America. [SPEAKER_02]: I know people get larger. [SPEAKER_02]: We have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, we have to, [SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, the landowner crusader, they take all the last cannons off, which, by the way, were never that helpful to start with. [SPEAKER_02]: And they just slap storm bolters and itself cannons onto it. [SPEAKER_02]: And the thing looks awesome. [SPEAKER_02]: And then they, well, this works. [SPEAKER_02]: And they just start driving these things into the walls, would crash through the ramp, would open an entire squad of black Templar would rush out while all the guns shot everything. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they just were suppressing fire. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a pressing fire. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, she has great. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is, I love this model. [SPEAKER_02]: It's one of my favorite things in the game, and the Black Templars invented it. [SPEAKER_02]: So there you go. [SPEAKER_02]: This gets us up to about M-forty. [SPEAKER_01]: And by the time you say it here, but I already know we agreed on it. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templar established themselves as like the stalwart defenders of humanity. [SPEAKER_02]: Chaos, Zenos, internal strife, nothing is safe from the enduring might and the conviction of the Black Templars. [SPEAKER_02]: And so the best example for that is going to be Hellbrecht. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to skip criminal disguise because when we cover the wars of Armageddon, he's going to be in basically every ten minutes. [SPEAKER_02]: So we'll just cover him there. [SPEAKER_02]: But Hellbrecht, fine. [SPEAKER_02]: I know you love Rick is. [SPEAKER_01]: I like both of them, but I mean, I didn't give him all this is such a bad answer. [SPEAKER_02]: The problem is, could we tell the Grimmolda story without just having to tell all of the story of Armageddon? [SPEAKER_01]: No, we'd have to do another cast. [SPEAKER_02]: That's why it's because it's like all the stuff he does in Armageddon. [SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a shrine to him in Armageddon still. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Grimmolda's rocks, but I just, I got to give too much backstory. [SPEAKER_01]: Helbrecht effectively is the Dragon Reborn. [SPEAKER_01]: He's, he is the biggest man. [SPEAKER_01]: He's just, he does everything. [SPEAKER_01]: He's so hardcore, but he's not blind. [SPEAKER_01]: The guy's a tactical monster and he's a badass. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he also has one name. [SPEAKER_02]: I tried looking at him. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't find any other name. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just Helbrecht. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't need it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, anyway. [SPEAKER_02]: So Hellbrake rises to the ranks of the Black Templars very quickly, because him and Siggas meant to participate. [SPEAKER_02]: He just the second coming of Siggas meant, in combat he's described as a brutal fighter. [SPEAKER_02]: And at the term they use, I like his tactical acumen and his pure savagery when fighting, when fighting, was everything, oh, good. [SPEAKER_02]: God, he's here. [SPEAKER_02]: And as a general, he's even better. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk to him a little bit. [SPEAKER_02]: He's this amazing space tactician, and much so that like when he arrives in Armageddon, which will get there a little bit, the entire Imperial Navy and other space marine legends said, oh yeah, he's in charge of the battle plan here. [SPEAKER_02]: Like this dude is one of the smartest, the entire galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: He's also fervent is Belize in his mission, but also not inflexible. [SPEAKER_02]: He does understand the goals of the Imperium are more important than anything else. [SPEAKER_02]: And this again is a reflection on Sigisman. [SPEAKER_02]: Sigisman had that same moment when he went to Mars. [SPEAKER_02]: He had to leave Mars because it was better to leave Mars with a supplies than the killer heretics that he really wanted to kill. [SPEAKER_02]: So, oh yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's do Helbert. [SPEAKER_02]: So Helbert takes control of Black Templars in nine eighty nine of M forty one. [SPEAKER_02]: So he's been in charge for less than a thousand years now. [SPEAKER_02]: His predecessor Marshall Cornel was killed by the chaos champion. [SPEAKER_02]: that night, the marshals had to hold a vote and Helbert won. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which took eleven seconds. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Helbert won Helbert won the vote the way a dictator wins the vote in their country. [SPEAKER_02]: That's like, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Actually, you're better because yeah, he was unanimous. [SPEAKER_01]: So, he like, hey, man, you got a hundred and eighty votes of a hundred and twenty people that cast votes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: health practice, there was no question. [SPEAKER_02]: And the first thing he does is he goes to exterminate a species known as the Xenarch. [SPEAKER_02]: This is his first, I'm doing a crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: What's the biggest badass out there that we need to go kill? [SPEAKER_02]: These things are over there called the Zen Arc. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, watch this. [SPEAKER_02]: And he launches himself out there. [SPEAKER_02]: What I like about the Zen Arc is that just what they are, they're this weird, like lightning-powered creature that have the best batteries in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: So he effectively invaded and stole technology of Tesla. [SPEAKER_02]: Tesla Motors was just hanging out and here comes Helbrecht screaming and left with a battery technology. [SPEAKER_01]: I like the next thing he does though. [SPEAKER_01]: That was funny. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, like he goes into the area basically known for the ghoul stars. [SPEAKER_01]: And why I like this is because of the fact that we talked about this in the forever ago episode seventy two. [SPEAKER_02]: I looked it up. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But like it's a big deal because most imperial generals and everything else didn't bother going there because they thought it would be too hard and they would get. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know benefit for it. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's say he just took. [SPEAKER_01]: He just took that as. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: Watch me, basically. [SPEAKER_02]: That's my beer. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's Helbert. [SPEAKER_02]: Helbert was like, everyone says this is impossible. [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not. [SPEAKER_02]: And so he goes to the ghoul stars to deal with what's called the cythorphines. [SPEAKER_02]: The cythorphines were this like really crazy race. [SPEAKER_02]: And they were attacking shipping vessels. [SPEAKER_02]: They were ratings surrounding systems. [SPEAKER_02]: And they were just slaughtering anyone who tried to enter the system. [SPEAKER_02]: And to Brad's point, everyone else in the Imperial Mission decided, well, we'll put kind of a blockade up around them and hope they don't spread. [SPEAKER_02]: And Helbert went, no, they all die. [SPEAKER_02]: Those are enemies of the Emperor. [SPEAKER_02]: They need to die. [SPEAKER_02]: And he went there and actually scoured the system of them. [SPEAKER_02]: two, and this, you know, just reflect back in a till he got to their home worlds, which he found were vacant. [SPEAKER_02]: And so the movies, they were gone, they were gone, or were they gone. [SPEAKER_02]: And Hellbreak was about, yeah, Hellbreak was about to just go, all right, I'll find where you are and kill you. [SPEAKER_02]: Doesn't matter where when he gets the call. [SPEAKER_02]: And the call is, gas has reappeared. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is now for him again. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the third war of Armageddon. [SPEAKER_02]: So gas gas is already established himself within the Imperium as not good thing for Imperium and Hellbrecht rushes over and arrives basically just as gas is making planet fall on Armageddon. [SPEAKER_02]: As we mentioned earlier, this part of story is cool because the hellback derives and takes complete control of the battle in space. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templarships, the Imperial Navy, the Imperial Fists, the other couple of other legions who were there, peace fully in charge, and his battle plan is perfect. [SPEAKER_02]: Pretty quickly, he actually eliminates all of the orc vessels in orbit. [SPEAKER_02]: just busy muting any reinforcements or offense on the ground. [SPEAKER_02]: He then sends two full crusading forces down to the surface to wipe out the orcs. [SPEAKER_02]: What happens next, that was actually just kind of funny, because Gaz gets bored of the fight and teleports away, because we will eventually get a fourth war of Armageddon. [SPEAKER_02]: Helbrecht, Val's, I'm going to kill this guy. [SPEAKER_02]: If he's screaming, I'm going to kill Helbrecht, he hears an echo. [SPEAKER_02]: And the echo is someone else saying, I'm going to kill guys. [SPEAKER_02]: And he looks over at this man holding with an orc power claw for a hand and goes, I think, I think. [SPEAKER_01]: Hold on, friend, regular you with those. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of so, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just a dude, just a dude with a power claw. [SPEAKER_02]: And they just kind of keep looking at each other going. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I like you, and Helbrecht grabs Kamasar Yarik throws him onto his ship, and the two of them go hunting gas together. [SPEAKER_01]: That had to, imagine the happiness on that ship. [SPEAKER_02]: That's the lane a lot of work. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God, that's no worst ship ever. [SPEAKER_02]: These are like, I love the stories of Yarik, but like Kamasar is in general. [SPEAKER_02]: Gone is the only Kamasar that's actually some of you like, oh, I kind of like that one. [SPEAKER_02]: Every other Commissar in a story is a psychopath. [SPEAKER_02]: And so now you have the two, maybe, biggest, like, aggressive psychopaths in the galaxy, standing on a bridge. [SPEAKER_02]: There are zero games of cards being played on that bridge. [SPEAKER_02]: That's zero. [SPEAKER_01]: Probably not a board game night, you're saying? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: There's no settlers of contending, being rocked out. [SPEAKER_02]: This is all serious. [SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately for Helbrecht though, the next piece of his legacy is a loss. [SPEAKER_02]: So he is, well, honey for gas, a neck around two, more order rups in part of the galaxy and buy a rups. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was bad. [SPEAKER_01]: The thing is, I actually think this is just like on the game when you play in Forty K. Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: He meets something he's never met before. [SPEAKER_01]: So he's not sure how they're supposed to fight against it. [SPEAKER_01]: He also knows doesn't know how serious it is. [SPEAKER_01]: And it was a real deal because these guys, the Necrons show up. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't know exactly what they were. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, it meant the storm lord was there. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that's the big dog. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Is it the the Imperium heading countered Necrons before we was more like freshly awakening to worlds and they were smaller. [SPEAKER_02]: Immotech the Stormlord is the head of the Sawtech dynasty, which is the most powerful of all the Necron tomb worlds. [SPEAKER_02]: And it was, I believe, fully awakened at this point. [SPEAKER_02]: So he's landing into something where all of your, to Brad's point, all of the prior information on this is like, other Necrons. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, now Bolter's work. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, type thing. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's what you do. [SPEAKER_02]: Watch out. [SPEAKER_02]: They can teleport. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's some tricks. [SPEAKER_02]: And he's hitting the strongest version of them with [SPEAKER_02]: Probably the best fair on that they have until a silent king returns, and it doesn't go great. [SPEAKER_02]: The crusade is just, they're ground to a halt pretty quickly. [SPEAKER_02]: Hella Brecht is not cool with that, and discovers where E-Motech is, and teleports himself to E-Motech to fight him. [SPEAKER_02]: And again, as of before, Hellbreck can throw down. [SPEAKER_02]: Hellbreck and Emo Tech are going at it, and Hellbreck is honestly scoring twenty hits to one. [SPEAKER_01]: Just let it, you know, if you fought this on the board, Hellbreck with stuff in Motech into a woodchipper. [SPEAKER_02]: But, oh yeah, the current Emo Tech rules are terrible. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't see anything. [SPEAKER_02]: It was just horrible. [SPEAKER_02]: So, mo. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think I've seen him on the board since he gives a CP. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I haven't seen him on the board since the edition. [SPEAKER_02]: There we go. [SPEAKER_02]: But Emo Tech, but I like what a story is. [SPEAKER_02]: And Hellbacks are like wrecking him. [SPEAKER_02]: But Emo Tech's network dermis is one of the most advanced entire galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: And he's healing instantly to all of it until Hellback literally just gets tired. [SPEAKER_02]: from all the fighting and emotech knocks him down. [SPEAKER_02]: But emotech stands above him, raises his axe and doesn't kill him. [SPEAKER_02]: He just cuts off his right hand and says, well, he respected his fight. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: That basically makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: And said, hey, no, this is one of my favorites with Hellbrake. [SPEAKER_01]: So because [SPEAKER_01]: He has his first basically his first hell. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, that's really the first loss is how you judge a character of someone. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Helbrecht decides he's suffered it now. [SPEAKER_01]: And he was going to go on a five-year crusade of penance to a tone for his defeat. [SPEAKER_01]: What the hell does that mean? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's already crusading. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, thank you. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_02]: It says it in the context because of five year like penance. [SPEAKER_02]: So was he not in charge? [SPEAKER_02]: Was he doing the stuff he was doing anyway? [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what that looks like, but apparently he spent five years really sad and really I assume still stabbing a bunch of stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: like non-stop standing. [SPEAKER_02]: But what's funny and lame, but it's funny, is he eventually goes back to, you know, HQ, which is, which again, there are he has more people under his command than the entirety of the imperial fist by a power of at least six, probably a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: And he goes and he prays by his primarx hand. [SPEAKER_02]: And then he looks down at his cybernetic hand and has a moment kind of like his Star Wars when Luke Skywalker is looking at his father and his cybernetic hand and realizing that this this isn't a loss. [SPEAKER_02]: This actually makes me closer to my primordial father, Robo Dorn. [SPEAKER_02]: And even though Dorn didn't have a celebration. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know it's actually he should have gone hang out with like the Ferris Manus Memorial. [SPEAKER_02]: They're like, oh, same same, right? [SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, so he'll break the sides. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, I'm back now and he goes specifically to go find emo tech again. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is a great story because they do, he tracks down emo text fleet and they attack and they quarter them. [SPEAKER_02]: And again, Helbrecht teleports on. [SPEAKER_02]: And this time, Helbrecht actually puts a beating on emo tech. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he got a better sword or what he did. [SPEAKER_02]: They don't explain it. [SPEAKER_02]: The first time every time he hit emo tech, emo text, Necroderma's healed. [SPEAKER_02]: The second time, [SPEAKER_02]: I guess it didn't. [SPEAKER_02]: I really have no idea how this worked differently. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, if a tech does tell him that they're one and one. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's the gopombs. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Because even think Royce is losing and just goes and he congratulate someone a great fight and he gives him you have won this round. [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm going over here and tell reports away at which point Helbrecht loses his mind with anger because he does not want to be denied this victory. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about what happens though. [SPEAKER_01]: So Helbrecht is super bent out of shape that this just happened. [SPEAKER_01]: And then he finds out Abidon just destroyed Kenya. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, forces of gas go are start coming in and he knows that. [SPEAKER_01]: So he's basically losing his mind because he's like, I'm killing him. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a tech wait a second. [SPEAKER_01]: I got to go kill Abadon. [SPEAKER_01]: Hold on a second. [SPEAKER_01]: Somebody said something about gas being over on the West side. [SPEAKER_01]: It's out. [SPEAKER_01]: Where the hell am I going? [SPEAKER_02]: But also, in that intake matters worse, with the rift forming a bunch of black Templar crusades went dark. [SPEAKER_02]: So he's getting all these missions coming in at once. [SPEAKER_02]: And Hellbrecht is kind of like torn as the where do I go? [SPEAKER_02]: And luckily for him, the greatest of the primarx arrives, Gilman. [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not kidding, because I really do like Gilman this much. [SPEAKER_02]: Gilman arrives to come to Hellbrecht for two reasons. [SPEAKER_02]: He came to Hellbrecht directly in person. [SPEAKER_02]: First, to ask him to accept the new primarism Marines. [SPEAKER_02]: And second, to help him secure the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: The funny part about this story is that Hellbrecht is sitting there at the bread's point. [SPEAKER_02]: Gaz is back. [SPEAKER_02]: Emotech has got away. [SPEAKER_02]: Abadans back. [SPEAKER_02]: I have stuff to do. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, shit. [SPEAKER_02]: Gilliamins here. [SPEAKER_02]: Codex of Stardys. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just a very not following me. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_02]: And so they meet and Helbrecht is expecting Gilliman to make a comment about it. [SPEAKER_02]: And Gilliman just kind of looks around the ship and sees way too many space marines and goes, all right. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, do you want more space marines? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: That was, that was just space. [SPEAKER_02]: That was Gilliman's pitch. [SPEAKER_02]: It said, you have too many like, hey, you have a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to give you thousands more. [SPEAKER_02]: You okay with that? [SPEAKER_02]: And this is funny because of course the flip side is Gilliman's concern that given how proud and how almost psychotic and fanatic the Black Templars were that they wouldn't accept these new space marines. [SPEAKER_02]: Hellbreak was like, so more people to do stabbing. [SPEAKER_02]: I like that. [SPEAKER_00]: That works perfectly. [SPEAKER_00]: He goes, get in the car right again. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: We're doing this. [SPEAKER_02]: The second thing Gilliman does is amazing, because Gilliman also says to Hellbreak, look, I know you have these people you want to go get, but the Imperium needs you. [SPEAKER_02]: We've got, and he just basically shows him that the Imperium's effectively on fire. [SPEAKER_02]: We've got tyrannid invasions, chaos pouring through the rifts, worlds earn rebellion, Necron, two worlds, Drew Carrey raids, and he says to him, look, the Imperium needs you, we can't control this. [SPEAKER_01]: I will go say, what's the problem is, is the stuff in the red? [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, everything's red. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, that's kind of where I'm getting at here. [SPEAKER_02]: I will put out, he didn't mention the town to say, he didn't mention the town. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll even know why, because this is around the same time, the town event horizon to have their army, because they tried to do warp travel without gather fields. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Helbrecht actually accepts this and says, you know what? [SPEAKER_02]: You're right. [SPEAKER_02]: The Imperium needs me. [SPEAKER_02]: The Imperium needs us. [SPEAKER_02]: We will stand with you. [SPEAKER_02]: We will, and so he does back to back. [SPEAKER_02]: He takes all the primarismarines and does a cool thing with him by the way. [SPEAKER_02]: Other legions when they made primarismarines made their own sections of their chapter that were primarismarines. [SPEAKER_02]: Helbrecht doesn't. [SPEAKER_02]: Helbrecht just spreads them out. [SPEAKER_02]: He basically says, all right, I've got ten thousand. [SPEAKER_02]: I've got ten thousand space Marines. [SPEAKER_02]: I have a thousand primaries Marines or more. [SPEAKER_02]: All right, one in ten. [SPEAKER_02]: Go and just spreads them around showing a full acceptance of the primaries Marines. [SPEAKER_02]: He's the only, this is the only chapter. [SPEAKER_02]: I believe, except for the alter Marines that do this full bore. [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone's in. [SPEAKER_02]: And the next thing he does is he then grabs a bunch of sore brethren and just says, you're a martial, you're a martial, you're a martial, you're a martial, you're a martial. [SPEAKER_02]: Gilliman's got a place for you to go. [SPEAKER_02]: go and just sends them out into the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: And they do. [SPEAKER_02]: The Black Templar and current lore are clawing back parts of the galaxy from to save the Imperium. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, whoa, you know, just leave a little bit of information out there. [SPEAKER_01]: You might want to mention that he also chart cross the count himself. [SPEAKER_01]: He became a primary Marine. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, and I don't understand. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: I have, I actually I like the primary line. [SPEAKER_02]: I think it looks better. [SPEAKER_02]: I think they're aesthetically better looking and they're easier to build. [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, calling it out. [SPEAKER_02]: But everyone else has a story of when how they became a primary Marine. [SPEAKER_02]: Helbrecht just does, which I'm assuming was probably him looking around going [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, I'm of the tallest person on my ship anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: Hall, fix that. [SPEAKER_02]: And there's, you know, very angrily walked into some chamber and got turned into a primaries Berlin and walked out of the chamber and went, all right, back to the crusade. [SPEAKER_02]: There's evidence on it. [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, that's kind of that for Black Templars, guys. [SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot more because the Black Templars play a massive role in lore, but I think that should be good enough for everyone here to kind of help you understand what the Black Templars are, why they're cool, why the people who love them really do love them and probably should. [SPEAKER_02]: So I hope you guys enjoyed that. [SPEAKER_02]: Next week, we're going to shift away from what I would consider a narrative to more of an informative cast. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about space travel in the Forty First millennia, how it functions, things like the Imperial Navy, trade routes, the Voidborn, et cetera. [SPEAKER_02]: The goal here is to kind of just be somewhat informative. [SPEAKER_02]: They don't help us set up some of our future stuff you want to do, because the traveler around the galaxy is kind of a key part when we start talking about some of the major conflicts that exist and how things move around and et cetera, et cetera. [SPEAKER_02]: So until then, this has been John Barsati and Brad Jester. [SPEAKER_02]: See you guys next week.
