00:00:00 Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio Hour two. In this Friday, it's a meat Friday. 00:00:07 Speaker 2: We have beef shepherd's pie, elk Shepherd's pie, and French onion soup. 00:00:14 Speaker 3: Who has it better than we do? Oh, he's out of the day. 00:00:17 Speaker 2: Brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program, Hugh's Your Daddy, amongst the T shirts available at the Danpatrick Store at Danpatrick dot com. We'll get to more phone calls coming up. We'll update our poll results and we'll talk to Daniel Jeremiah, draft analyst for NFL Network, and he has been all over arm length at the combine. We measured our arms yesterday. The length of our arms Armageddon will be revealed coming up next hour. The results are sealed and nobody knows what they are. This might be Marvin's comeback. Small hands the smallest hands on the staff, and maybe you can save face. 00:01:05 Speaker 3: Yes, it doesn't. 00:01:10 Speaker 2: It doesn't mean as much when you say I've got long arms. Wait wait, not no, not not in here at the combine. 00:01:20 Speaker 3: But if you you say, hey, I got. 00:01:22 Speaker 2: Really long arms, and then when you get to the end of them, you'll see my really small hands. 00:01:27 Speaker 4: They have a really long torso. 00:01:30 Speaker 3: Okay, yeah I have that. Man got a long torso? 00:01:34 Speaker 5: Thank you? All right? 00:01:36 Speaker 3: Eight seven seven three d P show we. 00:01:37 Speaker 4: Taking any wagers on arm length? You got any? You got any thoughts? 00:01:42 Speaker 6: Then? 00:01:44 Speaker 2: I'm trying to think who might be sneaky? I should have the longest arms, but I'm not. I don't know. Would i'd be bothered if I didn't have the longest arm? 00:01:57 Speaker 1: Yes? 00:01:57 Speaker 4: Probably probably? You feel like you should have the longest arms? 00:02:01 Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, Tom? 00:02:04 Speaker 7: And why would you be bothered by that? Why would you feel like that? 00:02:06 Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm just a competitor, Todd. 00:02:10 Speaker 7: But you can control that. You can't work on that. Really. 00:02:12 Speaker 8: Maybe you could stretch it a little bit, but you can't significantly change, you know, body parts. 00:02:17 Speaker 2: Well, god, guys end up stretching their hands before they're measured. You can, Yes, yes they have. They have exercises to Uh no one told me, Sorry the party, sorry, Marvin, Yes, Paul. 00:02:31 Speaker 9: Yeah, the athletic did a thing about it a couple of years ago around the Combine that players were using this little like I guess you'd caught a rack to spread your fingers out ours. 00:02:40 Speaker 4: Yeah, go with it where you want, but once before the combine. 00:02:45 Speaker 3: All right, so we'll go to the combine. Coming up. 00:02:47 Speaker 2: Also Robert or Or, oh, seven time NBA champ, And you know we were Marvin and I were chopping this up a little bit. Michael Cooper is in the Basketball Hall of Fame, and I think that's an ensemble selection. That he played with the great Showtime Lakers. It was usually matched against Larry Bird. He was a defensive guy, lockdown defender. But he wasn't a starter, I don't think. I don't know how often he started, but he certainly contributed a lot. And then you start to think, Okay, Robert or was part of Showtime. He's got a great nickname, Big Shot Bob came off the bench, played with the Rockets with their titles. He's got seven titles, Duncan Spurs. I mean, he played with these great teams. But maybe because he didn't play with one team like Draymond Green's going to be a Hall of Famer because it's part of the ensemble. You know, Michael Cooper, I don't know what he averaged. I just know when he was on the floor, he made the Lakers better. But he's in the Hall of Fame. And I'm fine with that. I just I'm curious that you got a guy who won seven titles, contributed to those teams and has the nickname big Shot Bob, and you're not a Hall of Famer. 00:04:09 Speaker 8: Yes, Ton, No one will ever say Robbert Orray led you know, his teams to seven NBA titles. But by the same token, no one will ever say, in spite of Robert Rory, those teams won seven championships. If it's even somewhere in the middle, and he had those big shots, I don't know how it's taking this long for him to get in the Hall. 00:04:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just I'm a little bit perplexed sometimes. And I did hear from somebody with the Basketball Hall of Fame yesterday, and this person thought I was calling out the Basketball Hall of Fame, where I was just trying to shed light on why isn't Christian Leytner in or Digger Phelps in? And I was told by somebody who will remain anonymous, that the Basketball Hall of Fame will lean towards NBA in international play more than it will college. And I'd not heard that before, so there's a college Basketball Hall of Fame, and it feels like, well, that's where Christian Layner will be featured, or Digger Phelps will be featured. Now you do have Jim Beheim and Mike Krzyzewski. They're in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, mask but that should be something that you're told or we're told that, look, this is really about international play in the NBA, because then that would make sense to me, and then I would stop, you know, campaigning for Laightner and you know, now Digger Phelps. So I don't know if that makes sense to people, but that's what was told to me yesterday and I went, okay, yes, Marvin. 00:05:46 Speaker 10: So right now, it's just Sonny Vakaro's on your list. Sonny, he made a movie about what he. 00:05:51 Speaker 2: Did, Sony Vacaro with what he did, but that's college basketball. That gets more about college basketball with Sony Vacaro. So maybe it's the College Basketball Hall of Fame. 00:06:02 Speaker 10: Well no, not necessarily, because remember the movie air about Sonny vacarl was getting Michael Jordan to sign as a pro with Nike. 00:06:10 Speaker 2: Yes, but then Michael has kind of moved towards George Raveling being more important than Sonny the Carrol, which isn't That's not true. I've known Sonny for probably thirty five years, and I've heard all the stories everything that went on. Him and Michael close friends Sonny's wife, Pam, you know, so, do I think Sonny was the one who was instrumental with Michael over George Raveling, the former coach, the late coach. 00:06:40 Speaker 3: Yes, I do. 00:06:42 Speaker 2: But he was instrumental in getting coaches paid product into the hands of the players and even down into the high school ranks as well. But I hope that Sonny, while he's still alive, gets an opportunity to be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. 00:06:57 Speaker 9: Yes, Paulin going back to Laytner, I'm on the Naysmith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame website and their criteria says consideration is not limited to the NBA. It includes international, collegiate and Olympic achievements. Latner has a top five college career of all time baired to say, and a nice pro career and a dream teamer. Yeah, it doesn't seem like it should be this tough. 00:07:19 Speaker 2: But he doesn't get credit for being a dream teamer because they didn't need Christian Latner with the Dream Team, but he was you know, they put him on the team. But I you know, once again, this was told to me yesterday, first time I ever heard that that the Basketball Hall of Fame will lean towards international play, which would include the Olympics and also the NBA. And that's not something that Christian Laytner, you know, was was instrumental in. It's tricky when it comes to these Halls of Fame. But if I look at Robert or winning seven titles, this isn't like Steve Kerr winning all of his titles because he wasn't an instrumental player even a great role player. Now he did have moments with the Bulls, but he won titles, and he was with a couple of different franchises winning these titles. Robert Or, he contributed. Like what's Michael Cooper's numbers? What are career averages? Let's start with points. 00:08:18 Speaker 9: Michael Cooper was on the Lakers from seventy eight to ninety his entire career twelve seasons. He started ninety four of eight hundred and seventy three games. He was a pure bench guy, but he was top five for defensive player of the Year seven different times and won at once. His stats he avers nine points a game, four assists, three rebounds. 00:08:41 Speaker 4: Couple steals. 00:08:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you're going to put Ben Wallace in there, even though Ben started for the Pistons, Rudy Gobert is going to be a Hall of Famer four time defensive Player of the Year. So when it comes to Hall of Fame, you know what are you focusing on? Is it the full like a total player or he did this really really well. He played defense really well. That's what we're doing with Ben Wallace, Rudy Gobert and Michael Cooper. They played defense really really well. Yes, Pony, Robert Rory had a nice career. In the regular season, he started about half the time. It was like eight points a game for his career and a shoot her. But his postseason, he's got two titles with Houston, three with the Lakers, two of San Antonio. He did it from age twenty three to thirty six, and in all of those playoff series, I'm looking at all of them, he played significant minutes. He wasn't just along for the ride. And he's got a great nickname, big Shot Bob. I mean, you don't get that nickname unless you've hit big shots. 00:09:43 Speaker 3: He earned it. 00:09:44 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not like, hey, I took big shots. I missed him. But you know my nickname is big shot Bob. He made big shots. Yes to would anybody. 00:09:54 Speaker 8: Visiting the Hall of Fame if they saw Robert Orry there for even for a split second, say really or what what is he doing here? 00:09:59 Speaker 6: I can't imagine anybody questioning that. 00:10:01 Speaker 3: I don't think they would said anything. 00:10:04 Speaker 7: Every the other way. 00:10:04 Speaker 6: It's like about time I was here a few years ago, I didn't see him. Finally they put him in there. 00:10:09 Speaker 2: Seven titles, seven titles? All right, Seaton poll question from hour one? What's our two? 00:10:14 Speaker 4: Big shot? That's still I'm man, I love that. 00:10:17 Speaker 3: Every time we have him on, we do this, we go whyind he in the Hollle thing? 00:10:20 Speaker 4: It's the best. 00:10:21 Speaker 3: I mean, what a career. I know, he's gosh. 00:10:24 Speaker 4: Man, how much of the NFL combine do you watch? 00:10:27 Speaker 2: Most? 00:10:27 Speaker 4: Some or none? Right now? None has seventy two percent of the vote. That is shocking. It's kind of hard none to not see some of it, I mean zero. I'm not fixated on it, but I like, I'm curious. Man, you know if you know you're watching uh you know, I don't want to watch defensive linemen or offensive lineman. 00:10:52 Speaker 2: Almost Seaton does seatings. Like, man, I love watching those big guys run you. Oh my gosh, the best. How athletic the like yesterday was offensive lineman. Those dudes are so athletic it's insane. 00:11:02 Speaker 4: How well they move him To be that big and move that well, it's fascinating. 00:11:06 Speaker 2: But remember that Alabama offensive lineman who ran with his shirt off. Oh yeah, that's not good. Yeah, no names. It looked like a mud slide. 00:11:17 Speaker 4: I like the confidence. 00:11:20 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:11:20 Speaker 2: There are people that'll take off their shirt and you're like, man, you're really It's like wearing a speedo. You know, you're like, all right, you got some confidence. 00:11:28 Speaker 6: Confidence. Yeah. 00:11:29 Speaker 4: I don't have it personally, but I like it. I like to see it on other people. 00:11:32 Speaker 6: Confident. 00:11:32 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, thank your shirt. 00:11:34 Speaker 2: Well, Todd, there was a time when Todd it was rare if you had your shirt on. 00:11:39 Speaker 3: When you were you know, like nineteen years of it. 00:11:41 Speaker 8: Now I'm the guy that goes in the pool with his T shirt. I was like that guy, like that camper that's. 00:11:45 Speaker 3: Like really overwhet do you wear a T shirt in the pool. 00:11:47 Speaker 7: I doubt I should, but I don't. 00:11:50 Speaker 8: I make sure there's no one else around the pool, and then when everyone's gone, then I could take. 00:11:53 Speaker 7: The T shirt. 00:11:54 Speaker 10: Yes, Marvin Well, I take my shirt off because I know there's somebody with a worse body than my really. 00:12:01 Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but you make sure you stand by that guy. 00:12:06 Speaker 10: No, no, no, I just you know, backstroke and breaststroke and all. That guy has way worse than I do. Buddha in San Francisco, Good morning, Buddha. 00:12:19 Speaker 11: No nobody happen me meet Friday Boys. Let's go Fritzy. 00:12:25 Speaker 1: Dan. 00:12:26 Speaker 11: Only one show in America can break down clanks from college shops, courts, worse sounds in sports, arm lengths, and just generally trying to explain Fritzy and his dynamic. If that doesn't win us an Emmy, I don't know what will, Dan, I don't know what will. 00:12:46 Speaker 2: Thank you, Buddha, thank you, thank you. By the way, we have a new podcast. It's called the Todcast and it's all about Todd. It's Todd Unplugged. He recorded and I will say, if you're going to listen, make sure you listen. Uh, And you don't have maybe your wife or kids in the car. Disclaimer, Yes, I would have a disclaimer, Yes, definitely. I'm going to wait to play a portion of the todcast a little bit later on this hour, but I'm going to prepare you for this. I'm rarely shocked with Todd. I include Paulie in on what we're going to play. Paulie, your reaction. 00:13:34 Speaker 4: I said to you, is this real? 00:13:36 Speaker 2: Yes, I'm going to play it in about a half hour from now, and it's it's worth It's worth staying in your car being late to work, although you may be mad at me after you hear it. 00:13:51 Speaker 3: But uh, Todd was Todd? Was Todd? You know that? 00:13:57 Speaker 2: And and once again that's the one question, the overriding question I always get, is Todd really like that? And the answer is yes, yes, And that's what makes him invaluable to this show. There's no other show that has somebody like Todd. But we decided that he has so much to say and maybe not the time to say it on the show, that we would give him his own podcast. So it's available Danpatrick dot com. It's about forty five minutes, but the words per minute. 00:14:25 Speaker 3: It is rapid fire. 00:14:27 Speaker 2: And there was a moment yesterday that made me go and I thought I knew everything about Toddler. So that's about a half hour from now. You've been prepared. Whether you keep your radio on or your TV on, or you don't, you've been warned. We'll have that for you. Well, head to the combine. What's a social media's response to Armageddon? 00:15:39 Speaker 4: Seaton, Well, this dude just dropped an absolute hammer like emotionally, says Aaron Crowder just wrote on social media. If Marvin has long arms, his dreams are within reach, he just can't grab them. 00:15:54 Speaker 5: Wow. 00:15:56 Speaker 4: Man, that's deep. 00:15:58 Speaker 3: That is deep. 00:16:00 Speaker 6: Tired of this? 00:16:00 Speaker 3: Are you okay? No? 00:16:03 Speaker 4: No, no no. 00:16:05 Speaker 6: I thought I was gonna have a good Friday, but I guess not. No combine for me. 00:16:09 Speaker 2: Daniel Jeremiah covering the Combine for NFL Network and of course, the Move the Sticks podcast. NFL Networks. Live coverage of the Combine continues today through Sunday Armageddon. Oh my goodness, Daniel releasing all this information, short arms and what does it really mean? 00:16:32 Speaker 5: Fun? 00:16:32 Speaker 13: Fun times is what it means, Dan, That's what it means. It means fun times for all because we've graduated from hand size to arm size. I think we're making progress as a society. 00:16:40 Speaker 3: Okay, but where are we going after this? 00:16:44 Speaker 4: Well? 00:16:49 Speaker 2: That's that one just literally not going to But does it really matter about the now, let's say a defensive lineman as opposed to an offensive line. I'll let be actually actually serious about this. Does it matter how much? 00:17:04 Speaker 6: Yeah? 00:17:04 Speaker 5: It doesn't. 00:17:04 Speaker 13: And I didn't want to just have my opinion, so I reached out to two of the defensive coordinators. They're of top five defenses in the league, so guys I respect that know what they're doing. And I said, what's the biggest issue with it? And and they said, yeah, look, there are issues with it. And some of it is, you know, you can't get off blocks. You know that's you can just get you get, they're gonna hold you, they're gonna grab it. You can't use your length to escape and get off blocks. There's something to the ability to kind of finish. They look at as you know, finishing on some of these bigger quarterbacks that that could. 00:17:34 Speaker 5: Come into play. 00:17:35 Speaker 13: But my follow up question was, well, obviously it's not a death sentence, so what do you need to have to overcome it? You know, if it's not ideal, but what do you need to have Because to me, I've always just felt like if you can play with leverage and power and strength, you can you can get away with it. And they said, no, absolutely, You've got to beat blocks with your feet more with your hands, which sounds kind of simple, but it is. You got to be able to have like lower power to generate to get through guys, or you got to be able to win with with your quickness. There's guys who maybe aren't as quicker as fast, but they're so good with their arms and so good with their hands, and they're able to get off blocks that way. There's just more ways to do it. 00:18:10 Speaker 2: But more important for an offensive lineman tab longer orange or defensive lineman. 00:18:15 Speaker 13: I would say offensive lineman, yeah. I just think when you're an offensive lineman and guys can constantly get to your surface, I think that's that makes your. 00:18:23 Speaker 5: Job a lot harder. 00:18:24 Speaker 13: And that's from Look, you know, I cut my teeth in the league watching Jonathan Ogden and I'm like, I mean, you could have put a fresh coat of paint on the front of his jersey and they're no handprints because nobody could. 00:18:34 Speaker 5: Ever get to him. 00:18:35 Speaker 2: I don't know if it came up last year or the year before with Will Campbell, or you know, his arm length or lack thereof. Was it a big deal the fact that he was a top five pick. 00:18:47 Speaker 13: Yeah, but I'd have to go back. I mean to me, like, I think Parsons was thirty one and a half. I think what was jarring is that when you get to thirty one and you start getting below, like the Cashus howl is below thirty one inches. Like that's something we just don't don't see lot of. But I was I was joking around with one of my former GM buddies and he was we were just talking about this and laughing because he was telling a story about how they had an offensive lineman that they liked, but he didn't run a good forty at the combine and they didn't run good forty at the pro day set, so they liked them. So they just kept sending different scouts out there to time him in a forty until they eventually got one that they liked. See, we know he's gonna run. There's nothing wrong with this guy. You know, we used to do it, you know, hand size, arm length or hand size. And like I was scouted on the West Coast for a period of time, and so if there was a quarterback, maybe his hands were real undersized or what have you. And like, guys we get together, like, hey, guys, all of us have big grades on this player. We're all taking crap back at our home teams in these draft meetings, like whatever we got to do to get that thing stretched out? When we measure this thing let's do ourselves a favor here. 00:19:50 Speaker 3: But his hand size important at this year's comebine. 00:19:53 Speaker 13: No, we've had no hand size debait, but the quarterbacks haven't gotten. 00:19:56 Speaker 2: Oh okay, well why don't we Why don't we focus on the wide receivers with their hands? 00:20:03 Speaker 5: Well, yeah, it'll they'll come up. 00:20:05 Speaker 13: I mean, just if there's a correlation between the drops and then he's got small hands. But you know that's not it's not nearly as as prevalent as the quarterback discussion. But I always go back to this stuff with my the way I look at like Reuben Bain. So if I watch a player and I don't know any of his measurables, you know, if I don't, if I haven't documented in my notes, and I've gone through four or five games and I've you know, watched a bunch of tape on him, and I don't have concerns about it, then I'm not going to be as worried about it. If his measurements come in low. What would be concerning is there like cash is how maybe a little bit more so where there's times with him where I see he can play a little bit small at times when he gets into guys he can't get off of him. I've seen Bain get engaged and be able to free himself, whereas Cash is howl. At that point, Tom, that down might be over. So if I have notes about it as a concern not knowing measurables, and then the measurables come in and kind of confirm your notes, then I think it's valid. 00:20:57 Speaker 2: The Ty Simpson love I think is going to be we we see this every draft where somebody we focus on Fernando Mendoza. Then we might start looking at negatives with Fernando Mendoza. Then we're looking for another quarterback who we can talk about and Ty Simpson will probably get It. Feels like a little bit of love coming up. But compare the two and with ty Simpson at Alabama and of course Mendoza. 00:21:25 Speaker 13: Yeah, I think there's a pretty good gap. You know, in my opinion, how I see him, I just Mendoza. 00:21:31 Speaker 5: You know. 00:21:32 Speaker 13: The hard thing about his evaluation, and I've talked about this a little bit, is that you know, people talk about the RPOs and how quick the ball you know, comes out a lot of the times. Well, spoiler alert, that's college football. That's that's how a lot of these guys are playing the game. 00:21:45 Speaker 5: You have to be able to cut through that. 00:21:46 Speaker 13: So the way I do it and is, you know, you take the whole season, you watch the games you're gonna watch. But then I like to go back and look at these situations. Third and seven plus, you're not our RPO and a third seven plus and our win. The stateium knows you're throwing the football the red zone where the spaces condemned. Then you got to make more tight throws. I look at endgame situations, and then I look in big stage games, you know, big stage moments, and I'm like, Dan, he ate his every single one of those tests that he didn't throw a pick in the red zone. It's like crazy numbers inside the red zone. You look at him when everybody in the stadium knows they're throwing the ball, and okay, sometimes it can be a little back shoulder heavy and he gets criticized for that. I'm like, I don't know, I keep throwing it too. They can't cover those receivers on the outside when he pinpoints the ball on their back shoulder. But I've seen him fitballs in tight spaces. He's big, he can move. If you need him to get some free arts. He can take him with tie. I like like Tye is someone who I in my opinion, I think a lot of former quarterbacks are going to take to him because he's the son. 00:22:43 Speaker 5: Of a coach. 00:22:44 Speaker 13: Everything from a mechanical standpoint is beautiful and flawless, like great feet, nice with delivery. He does not have a huge arm. There's times and their offensive line with was not a traditional Alabama offensive line. They didn't have the traditional benefits that you'd have in that program. So there was a lot of bodies around him, and I thought there were times he just got He looked small, the ball was coming out of his hand, he looked like he was thrown out of a well. The ball would kind of take off on him. So I like him. 00:23:10 Speaker 5: He's my fortieth player. 00:23:11 Speaker 13: I think he's the second round guy, and I've you know, if somebody wants to take him in the back of the first round to get the extra year, I can get with that. I just I don't see him as the top half of the first round, top fifteen type pick. And the other reason for that is I think every year you're going to have more ty Simpsons coming along. Whereas Fernanda Mendoza. Those guys are a little bit harder to find. 00:23:30 Speaker 3: So I can do. 00:23:31 Speaker 2: Daniel Jeremiah, NFL network analyst and his podcast Moving the Sticks, Joining Us from the Combine. 00:23:37 Speaker 3: Jeremiah Love three down running back. 00:23:41 Speaker 13: Oh yeah, yeah, he's got elite hands, like route running hands, you know, and all the dynamic stuff that comes along with him in the backfield. Me he's my second overall player. He is a very, very talented dude. He's more than just somebody turn around and put in his stomach, like, he can do a lot. 00:23:57 Speaker 5: Of different things. 00:23:58 Speaker 2: Yeah, And I don't know, you know, with the success of Jamir Gibbs and Jean Robinson and you know, some of these other hybrids there. Of course McCaffrey, I would, you know, fell in love with him watching him play this year. He was the one playmaker that I thought was different than any other player on the football field every single game that he played in. And that's kind of hard to do, but I just felt, you know, he's running it from ninety yards like you're a threat, You're a threat inside your own ten yard line. But I don't know, where's the landing spot for him? 00:24:32 Speaker 13: Well, that's there's two conversations, right, I mean we I agree on his greatness and how special he is, and then he's my second overall player. And then the next question that follows up is okay, well where does he go? And then you start looking at we saw yesterday with some of those guys to Ohio State kids are absolute freaks. So you're looking at guys and you start playing the position priority game. You start looking at needs. But when I say, like, where could it start? I mean, I don't think the Jets would do it at too. I think they're kind of it feels definitely more like a front player, defensive front player. I would say you could start the conversation at three with Arizona in Tennessee. I mean, that's where the conversation would start. But I still think that probably lends more to big guys to offense and defensive linemen. Probably, you know, at this point time, I would say more so defensive lineman. And then the sweet spot to me is seven eight nine. When you look at Washington, New Orleans, Kansas City, I don't think that's that's a neighborhood He's not going to be able to get out of. 00:25:28 Speaker 3: You imagine if he goes to Kansas City. 00:25:31 Speaker 13: You don't know how many times I've got that from people in the league. 00:25:34 Speaker 5: They're like, we finally got these guys to not make the playoffs. You know, please not put Jeremiah Love there. 00:25:39 Speaker 2: If I put Mendoza in the twenty twenty four draft, how many quarterbacks go ahead of him? 00:25:46 Speaker 13: So three for me, So I had Caleb Drake Jaden, and then I would have him in there, and then you get into you know, the new six McCarthy Pennix, so that's where he would be. But those three guys I mean that I had. Those guys were outstanding, and we've already seen that kind of bear itself out. 00:26:05 Speaker 2: The Raiders draft strategy that okay, you take Mendoza. Yeah, I mean, even if you go back to last year, you're taking gent but you don't have a good offensive line. You got a really good tackle And I just wonder, putting Mendoza in a situation like that, do you trust the Raiders they can fortify that offensive line. 00:26:29 Speaker 13: So here's what I would do, Dan, And maybe it's just symbolic and it would be kind of funny, but I would want to make my point. If you're in the draft room. If you go inside a draft room, and now it's a lot more digital and they can display it from a digital display. But when I was doing it was cards. You have the cards upon the wall, so you had the whole left side of the huge wall. Left side is all the defensive players. The right side is all the offensive players. So when you come in there for your first meeting and maybe you got all your coaches in there for the first time, after the season it's over, you have the. 00:26:56 Speaker 5: Whole draft board up there. 00:26:57 Speaker 13: I would have to race the entire defensive side of the board and I would say, APO, some defensive coaches, but this year we will just be drafting from this side of the board. Uh, to help our to help our young quarterback. So you know, I know, and I think I might even hurt this on your show, like it's a good conversation, but you know, okay, are they equipped right now with where they are to take a quarterback? And what I would say is now, I think it's there's proof of concept, and recently proof of concept. The Bears, I mean they revamped their pretty much their. 00:27:24 Speaker 5: Whole line in one year. 00:27:25 Speaker 13: The the you know, like I know it didn't they didn't play as well as they would have liked in the Super Bowl, but New England swapped out four starters in one year and advanced all the way to the Super Bowl. I think with free agency, you gotta, you gotta, You're gonna have to overpay because you know you're the Raiders and where you are right now, you're gonna have to outbid some folks for the Tyler Linderbaums of the world. But I would go all in on trying to get one or two of those guys in free agency. Colton Miller comes back healthy, that's probably the hardest piece. 00:27:49 Speaker 5: To find it. 00:27:50 Speaker 13: You've got a good functional left tackle and then now we go draft some some interior guys or a right tack tackle as well. Throughout the draft. I think they can make it comfortable enough that Mendoza can survive. 00:28:01 Speaker 2: I just don't want another Andrew lux situation. Yeah, a Datu Bore situation. 00:28:06 Speaker 13: I I one hundred percent agree with you there. But that's where the That's why you know, I apologize to my coaches, and I've said this for the last few years on anybody that takes a quarterback high. You have to look look to the future and just put yourself there and say, okay, at the end of this year, not all seven and ten records are the same. If we're seven and ten and my quarterback's playing well and we're losing thirty one to twenty eight, man, like you, your owner, your fan base is gonna feel a lot better about that seven and ten team. Then you thumping your chest and saying, we got a top five defense. Don't know if this quarterback's any good and he missed four games, you got the crap kicked out of him, but we got a great defense. Like that's Those two records are the same, but they are not the same in terms of the hope in the in the direction of the team. 00:28:49 Speaker 2: Who is the quarterback you loved but he didn't plan a pan out? 00:28:55 Speaker 13: Oh gosh, that's I mean, I'm sure there's a long list. I will say I didn't go into the school when JaMarcus Russell was coming out. I went and saw him play live, and I watched his tape and when I was a young, young skuy at that point in time, that was the probably the most talented guy that I ever saw. And it was like, Okay, I don't know all the other stuff. The guys going to school get all the character and the work ethic all that, but I'd never seen the guy throw football like that. And I was like this, I don't know how this doesn't work. That guy's that's insane with the ability that he had. 00:29:22 Speaker 5: And obviously we know that worked out. 00:29:24 Speaker 3: Why didn't it work out? 00:29:26 Speaker 13: I think it was probably more the other stuff, you know, just in terms of the focus. He got heavy, you know, the work ethic. I think those were more issues. I'm telling you this day, Dan, it looked like he was throwing a nerf turbo. Like when you went out there and watched him, it looked like he had that little little tiny nerf turbo that whistled, that whistled when you threw it. 00:29:45 Speaker 3: Would you take a chance on Kyler or Tua? 00:29:50 Speaker 5: I would? 00:29:50 Speaker 13: I think I would. I would do Kyler on that one. I think he's more talented, more talented guy and so and I've seen him, like I've look. Two has had some good moments, for sure, and he's played well, and I think that was I think it's just very specific the environment for two to be successful. I think Kyler could be a little more successful in some different circumstances. 00:30:11 Speaker 5: See. 00:30:12 Speaker 2: The problem I have is he's more talented, but they're both kind of at the same place in their careers where you know that if I'm going to take a chance on him, he does have this talent, but he didn't really showcase it the way he should have. What why am I going to be led to believe that he's going to now now he's going to be Kyler Murray. 00:30:33 Speaker 13: Well, and the other side of that, though, is you get two and all the head injuries. 00:30:36 Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I don't want either one of them. Yes, yes, I just and if I had to choose between. 00:30:42 Speaker 13: Yes, two, yeah, I mean I kind of factoring all of that stuff in together. But I'm just saying, at least at least with Kyler, I mean, where you know, maybe we don't have a perfect offensive line, Like he can try and run around and get me out of some stuff with that, and he's given me. He just gives me more opportunities. Whereas two, I think you got to have a very firm offense line, you got to have a track team on the outside, and you have you know, an RPO quick passing game system very tailored to him. 00:31:06 Speaker 3: You can have Mac Jones or Malik Willis. 00:31:10 Speaker 5: I think i'd want to test out Malik Willis. 00:31:12 Speaker 13: Yeah, I feel like I know I know where Mack is, which is can be a good thing and a bad thing. Malik, I don't have certainty there, but I'd be excited to just see, just to see what we can do. 00:31:22 Speaker 3: I like him. 00:31:23 Speaker 2: I just think he's going to get that three year, one hundred million dollar contract. And I would be excited if if my team got Malik Willis, even if it's the Dolphins or you know, I don't know if Minnesota. But I don't mean what what do you hear at the combine on destinations for some of these guys. 00:31:44 Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, look, it's just you're walking in the halls and people are talking, and I don't know how much you read into this historically over the years, how much of it's accurate. But just a couple of things that you hear was okay that you know Malik Willis was Arizona. You know you heard that kicked around as that he could you know, that could makes sense with Arizona. The one that I heard was interesting was Gino going to Minnesota was one that people were talking about to give him the veteran with with McCarthy to see where that goes. And then it just seemed to be like there would be a good market for Kirk Cousins was the other buzz that you hear, but not tied Denni's not not tied to any specific team, but you know that was that was interesting. 00:32:21 Speaker 2: But he's better than Michael Pennix. But they moved on from Kirk Cousins. 00:32:26 Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, I mean it sounds like that's done. I mean that's yeah, you know, he's he's moving on. 00:32:30 Speaker 2: Yeah, like two weeks. I think he's He's gone and made one hundred million. 00:32:34 Speaker 3: In two years. 00:32:36 Speaker 5: That's good work if you get it. 00:32:37 Speaker 3: Oh my god. And he's going to get another contract here. 00:32:40 Speaker 13: Yeah, and when he's done with that, he's going to go right into TV and TV. 00:32:46 Speaker 2: Great to talk to you. I got a couple of comments and then a stat of the day trivia style. So my first comment is I can see where Todd doesn't understand how check comes from Chester. But he also is the guy that rhymes walk in pork, so you know his vocabulary is a little different. And also, Marvin, see why you felt guilty when your wife walked in watching the Combine. The reason being is I've seen some clips from the Combine. One was they're doing stretching drills where one guy pushes another guy's legs over his head to see how far they can go back. That would be kind of embarrassing. 00:34:14 Speaker 3: For my wife to walk in on. 00:34:16 Speaker 14: But my standard day trivia style is this so Kate Cunningham has had four straight games of at least tennisis and two blocks. If he does that tonight against the Cavaliers, he'll reach a record that's only meant one time since the NBA and ABA merger. Do you guys know who the other player is the only player to have five straight games of tennisists and two blocks in consecutive games? 00:34:43 Speaker 3: What decade? 00:34:45 Speaker 14: The nineties? 00:34:47 Speaker 3: Nineties? 00:34:48 Speaker 2: Yes, Pauli a Keem Elijah One. No, Marvin great Hill, No, Tracy McGrady. Not a star player, but a good name. 00:35:05 Speaker 3: All right, give us the answer. It is mooky, mooky, mooky Blake. Okay, looky, looky, here comes mooky Yeah. Stat of the day, Sat of the day of the day, status. 00:35:18 Speaker 6: Here comes, here comes that what stat. 00:35:22 Speaker 2: Of the day? 00:35:25 Speaker 3: Alrighty? 00:35:26 Speaker 2: Stat of the day brought to you by the great folks uh tire Rack Prover forty years helping you find the right tires for how and what and where you drive. And they have a convenient installation options like mobile tire installation, tire rack dot Com the way tire buying should be. I need to clarify something by one of my sources talking about the Basketball Hall of Fame. I got this note to clarify the Naysmith Hall of Fame criteria doesn't reflect the lean towards the pro in international success, but the selections reflect that reality. The reality is the Basketball Hall of Fame selection committee tends to be pro and big market oriented. So I just want to make sure that have that have some clarity there. Okay, Todd has a podcast that he started recently. It's called The Toddcast Insvatable a Dan Patrick dot com. And I don't know if there's really a theme other than Todd's life Todd's thoughts. Dylan is the host with him, And there was a portion of the latest podcast that was released yesterday that that caught my ear. So here is Todd Fritz on the todcast. 00:36:44 Speaker 8: But I used to have this great group of friends, as a lot of us do growing up in elementary school, junior high school. You all go to the playground of the park and hang out, make it, make out with each other's girlfriends, you know, but kind of just you know, yeah, you know, you're hanging out with your guy friends and all of a sudden, one of them wants to experiment while you playing the Guitari twenty six hundred console and it's like all of a sudden, leak that well, all of a sudden, someone's touching you while you're playing Pitfall. 00:37:06 Speaker 11: Harry. 00:37:06 Speaker 6: It's like, all right, fred, I didn't know you felt that way about me. I know you have a decision to make go along with. 00:37:10 Speaker 3: It, and because you were having a cute day, I. 00:37:12 Speaker 7: Was having a cute day. 00:37:13 Speaker 8: But the decision is, hey, I'm not like that, but you know, I'm flattered, or you like, let him do what he wants to do and just you see where it goes. 00:37:19 Speaker 3: And maybe who knows, maybe you're into it, ton. 00:37:21 Speaker 8: You know what, sometimes you have to take a chance in life, and if it's something that's disgusting or horrible to you, don't do it again. But in the moment, especially if you're a little horny and you haven't been with somebody in a while and you're playing guitar, you're just pretending like it's not happening, and you're maybe picturing this girl that you a crush on in one of your classes, and nobody needs to know while you're playing the video games, who's doing what you. 00:37:39 Speaker 7: Close your eyes, it could be anybody ton a lot of divulging right there. 00:37:47 Speaker 3: How did we get to that point? 00:37:48 Speaker 6: I don't even know. 00:37:49 Speaker 8: I'd have to listen back to what came before and after that kind of thing. But it might have been some slight embellishment there. 00:37:54 Speaker 6: But I'm not the shy type. Probably I'll just leave it as as stated. I think it's the best way to do it. Okay, I don't think it really needs more. 00:38:02 Speaker 3: You had some really interesting friends, some good friends. 00:38:05 Speaker 7: Yeah. 00:38:06 Speaker 6: Sometimes you know, just Dylan brings it out in meuess I just did it. 00:38:08 Speaker 8: Sometimes you just open Oh, I don't think me in the right movie. 00:38:12 Speaker 3: We're not blaming Dylan. 00:38:14 Speaker 7: Strugg interview excills posts. 00:38:16 Speaker 2: I mean you did talk about nerve football in the backyard and your pants were down. 00:38:20 Speaker 6: There was a previous reference to that. 00:38:22 Speaker 7: Sometimes, you know, sometimes you get a little distracted. 00:38:24 Speaker 3: Okay, well there's more of that. 00:38:27 Speaker 2: There's more of that where you know, you can listen on the toodcast and it's available. 00:38:32 Speaker 3: Dan Patrick tuk, I do need to. 00:38:33 Speaker 7: Practice slowing down a little bit, which about four hundred. 00:38:35 Speaker 2: Times you go you go fast. I thought that the tape was sped up. I thought that, you know, when they recorded it that it was. 00:38:43 Speaker 6: Just faster one of those forty five records on seventy eight. 00:38:45 Speaker 3: Yes, and it found out that that wasn't the case. Yes, Paul. 00:38:49 Speaker 9: It felt like a story based in reality to me. 00:38:53 Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, Todd doesn't. He's done guilty of hyperbole. 00:38:59 Speaker 2: He usually tell you and then you go, you're telling me too much, Ton, But it's the Toodcast and it's available at Dan Patrick Ellen was bleshed. 00:39:08 Speaker 6: I wasn't. 00:39:09 Speaker 5: He was. 00:39:09 Speaker 6: He was getting a little comfortable. 00:39:10 Speaker 3: As long as you're okay with it, it's all good fun. 00:39:13 Speaker 7: You gotta, you know what you gotta. 00:39:14 Speaker 6: Sometimes it's fun to just have some fun and share and and just be out there. 00:39:18 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:39:18 Speaker 3: But I have fun and share, but I don't share those things. 00:39:22 Speaker 7: It's just an unedited me. 00:39:24 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:39:25 Speaker 2: Well, I never for better or worse, I guess you know. I never played video games. Maybe that's what I was missing out on. 00:39:30 Speaker 7: That's where you're missed out. 00:39:30 Speaker 8: And you should have been playing Pitfall, Harry and Adventure and Berserk and Missile Commands, Base Vase. 00:39:35 Speaker 6: There's lot of stuff going. 00:39:36 Speaker 3: Don't play video game. It's a sorry one, boss. Yeah. 00:39:43 Speaker 2: The Atlanta Hawks are hosting the Orlando Magic and that's is that Monday, Marvin. 00:39:49 Speaker 6: It is Monday, March sixteenth, Okay. 00:39:51 Speaker 2: March sixteenth in Atlanta, and I think it's it says the Atlanta Hawks versus Magic City. 00:39:59 Speaker 10: Is that well, it's the Atlanta Hawks versus the Orlando Magic But the theme is Magic City Mondays. Yeah, And so they have a sweatshirt Magic City Mondays got the Hawk's logo. It is a legit thing between the Hawks and Magic City, the chicken wing establishment. 00:40:14 Speaker 6: So I won't be here. 00:40:16 Speaker 2: And Marvin when we went down for a celebrity family feud after we were done later that day, Marvin and uh, Mario, So you guys go, hey, we're going to go to Magic City. So I gave them one hundred dollars and they wanted to make it rain, and I think you made it drizzle maybe a little bit. 00:40:40 Speaker 6: I mean it was gone in about thirteen minutes. 00:40:44 Speaker 3: But you fell in love with as somebody as soon as you walked in. 00:40:48 Speaker 10: Correct, Oh my goodness. If basketball terms, it was Steph Curry. 00:40:52 Speaker 3: What what do you remember her name? I can't tell you. 00:40:57 Speaker 6: That's the right answer. That is the right answer, Marvin, I couldn't tell you. 00:41:01 Speaker 3: Portia cinnamon. I mean, I mean all right. 00:41:07 Speaker 6: She was strong. 00:41:08 Speaker 10: I mean I took out my own money like you know what, cashed me out also. 00:41:13 Speaker 2: But you weren't the big spender, Oh I was not. There were there were some known people in there that were spending, spending a few thousand. 00:41:22 Speaker 3: I'm guessing lo. 00:41:23 Speaker 6: Ba Wow had my yearly salary in his hands. 00:41:29 Speaker 3: Uh. 00:41:30 Speaker 2: Two hours in the books, One war to go, Robert or or oh will join us coming up right after this
