What's town you're from? Man? Where'd you go to high
school at? So? I left before high school, but my
brother went to Pari Meridian. I went to Abraham Lincoln Elementary.
But like when I was like eight or nine, that's
when I started like moving around and touring and working
and stuff. But my family's from Marion, and then I
got family.
In like Greenwood area, Okay, a little bit all over
the city.
Yeah, exactly exactly. What's that like to start working at
a young age like that. You know what, I'm super
thankful for at the time, not putting too much weight
on it. I was just doing what I had fun doing,
you know. I wasn't like like, man, I got to
do this because I got to. I was just like, yo,
this is fun to do, right, And it just so
happens that transforms like you you know what you want
to do, but then as you get older, you learn
why you want to do it, and so yeah, man,
it's it was dope in that young and I just
I went through the training process that I feel like
people go to school years and years to get because
I was working with so many talented people, you know,
people that came from Alvin Ali or came from the
best music school or whatever. And I was just, you know,
always around greatness. So yeah, it was it was an
honor for sure.
Now we ain't gonna get too far into it, but
you know, see I joking this podcast. You know what
I'm saying. As a kid, you know what I'm saying,
he was making that chicken. Now these two just man
go back and forth. That's at that point. If I'm
the kid making the chicken, this is my house.

about even this is how I knew a type of
person I was. Anytime I have anything that's like delicious,
like food, water, I want to share, I'm like, yo,
you gotta try, right. And that's the same with money,
or that's the same with you know, anything in life.
I want to share good things and watch people that
I love enjoy those things. So is it my house? Sure,
but it's our house, you know, it's a house that
we helped build. And I'm never that person. I've never
been that person. I could never be, you know. But
there are you know, guidelines and boundaries that I think
as long as people respect each other.
But if you wanted to have a party and I
was like, no, no.

I don't think a kid is a kid, even if
he's making all the money. A kid is a kid.
I don't think a kid should make any grown person decisions.

But it's like growing up? What's that like? You know,
have to go to school work, but you like on TV? Yeah,
it was to do chores on TV. I hated it, dude, school,
And I don't think it was because I was on TV.
I just I don't think I was built for the
school system, you know what I'm saying. I think a
lot of people weren't built for the school system. And
it's a thing that builds employees and not bosses and entrepreneurs,
and we all know the world is a lot of it.
It's been a lie, right, especially in the school system.
So I hated it because I just felt like I
was being forced to do things that I didn't love.
I was being forced to do things that didn't pique
my interest. And I knew I could do the things
they were asking me, you know. So like if a
teacher comes like, hey, give me six essays, I'm like,
I'll give you one essay and it's gonna be a
fire essay. But I'm not going to give you six
of them, because you know, I don't know. I hated school,
though I guess it sounded like that you didn't like school.
I hated it. Bro, if you could tell your professor
I hate I got one.
I got one tuble for it.
But I'm not gonna say it. I mean, I'd rather
draw a picture or something. You know what I'm saying.
What age did you know you wanted to become like
in this entertainment world?
I was like eight. I knew for I knew it
was what I was meant to do when I was eight,
because I was doing The Lion King the Broadway show,
and I remember I was I was looking at the
front row and everybody was just smiles right, and I
was left their fake smiles or real smiles. But while
I was on stage, people were enjoying life, you know
what I'm saying. And I just wanted to do that.
I want to bring that also now that I'm older,
I want to bring perseverance into that. I feel like
when you're young, you're like, oh, this is gonna happen.
It is going to happen. But once you go through
the real life stuff, it's the gas in the tank
gets low. And there's a lot of people that have
helped me through that. There's a lot of movies that
have helped me through that. So I want to create
projects and things like that too. You know, when people
are at that finish line about to give up, a man,
keep going, amen, keep on one more step. And that's
kind of the what I want to be remembered, you know,
as and what I want to represent because so many people.
Bro my grandfather died last Oh no, it was this year.
My grandfather died this year. But around the same time,
the Superman movie came out, and I was like down
and I was sad, but I went to see it.
I was like, I gotta keep going. You know what
I'm saying. I couldn't break down, you know. But so
things like that, I want to be a part of.

I appreciate that what's that like on stage eight years
old and like you really getting your shit off, but
like like you really like what's that moment? Like because
you young, but did you realize that moment? Was that crazy?
Or did you have to get older? Realized how to
get older? I had to get older.

at that time I think too. That's why I feel
like I've been able to do what I've done because
I don't. I try not to put too much pressure
on the moment.

Whenever I do that, I like try to zoom out
and I remember the feelings when I'm on a plane,
or I remember those images you've seen on Instagram, like
this is the universe you pull up, this is the yox.
You know, it's like yo, you know, we can create
how we feel about something because you know, we don't
really know much. So it's like I don't know, man,
did you have like Homeboys or anything like that? Like
I had. Yeah, so people that were in it as well,
so like Lion King because it was tild labor laws
you had to have two similar was two dollars, So
there was girls and boys. We were young and so
we'd be you know doing school. So it'll be like
the first from eleven to four, we had school, have
an hour break, then you have the show. You work
the first hour of the show, you're on stage the
whole hour, and then the second hour you're sitting backstage
doing more school work. Then you probably get out of
the theater around eleven PM. You're on a high from
the show. Yeah, do that eight times a week. Hell,
I did that for three years. Cool.
Yeah, you did that for three years.
I did that for three and a half years, from
eight years old to eleven.
Yeah, it was meant to do this ship.
Yeah working Yeah, real job, no, real job. Yeah, I'm cool. Yeah, eight,
I was watching Progress listen New York. Now, this was
a tour, so it's the same Broadway shows everywhere. So
it's like I did two years on the East Coast
on the two, then I did a year on the
West Coast. No, bro, I think anything anybody wants to do,
they can do. You know what I'm saying.
Eight the moment they told me out there, I could.
But you you really don't know. For real, I knew
and it was lit. My dad used to make us
play basket the whole time. Yeah, I want to go
all that flight over there. You played basketball at the
same park. He dinna take you to Chicago, l A.
You don't know the difference. Different city they get the
weather's different.

Outside by the time he was seeing it was probably groovy.
We talk about him like.
We talk about toys. That's one thing I can be
super thankful for my mom. She always made sure I
was a kid too, you know, allowed me to I
was a skateboarder, I was heavy skateboarding. I played ball too,
But those are like my two things. And uh, at
one point she kind of was like because I started
getting more and more into skating and people were like,
hey man, these kids like can skateboard, Like what should
we do? And she kind of like saving. I was like,
you have to make a choice now, because I want
you to do what you really want. You want to skate,
you want to, you know, do the other thing. And
I'll say, I want to do the other thing. But
I love skating, you know, I mean mom, Yeah, she's
a great mom. Shout out, how did you balance?
Like I know you said your mom lets you be
a kid, but I'm sure when you got older it
got hard. A few to do, like, how did you
maintain your outside life and your entertainment.
There's no rule book on that, you know, kind of
trial and error, trialing area you feel me. But again,
I I always stay true to I think what I
wanted to do. I never felt enclosed or trapped by anything,
and I think living that way promotes happiness and promotes
peace and kind of you know, you're you're just in
a better space. But I feel like people who feel
like they're in a cage, whether it's their job or
whether it's oh I got to wear this or I
gotta do that, just people conform, you know what I'm
saying all the time, because they just want to like
you know, but I've never been able to do that,
and I think that's been a big impact on my work,
you know what I mean? Cool?
When did you start fucking with them? Girls?

was more maybe performative or maybe I tried harder. And
then something turned where it was like, you know, to

but Superfly. How was it like being the main man
in the movie? That movie?
That was an honor? Dude. I was twenty years old
and I did that. I was a baby, you know,
so it was really a dream come true. I grew
up watching The Matrix, I grew up watching Blade, so
wearing a long leather jacket and whipping ass was a
dream of mine that came true working on that project
and my dad. I remember when I was like seven
or eight years old, he made me watch that movie,
the Old One. Yeah. I was like, why is he
so excited for me to watch this? But I just
saw a lot of joy in his face and happiness
and it meant something to him. Even at that age,
I didn't know what it meant. So when I was auditioning,
they actually didn't want me to play the lead. They
want me to play the bad guy, the leader of
snow Patrol. And it was like one of the first
times I went into an audition. I was like, I
don't want to do this. I want to be the dude.
And they were like, well, well, you know, maybe here's
the sides and go and you can come back and read.
And that's kind of how that went down. Yeah, dude,
that was a dream come true.
Honestly, that's fire for popston On to be tacking with
the originals.
How did you tell him that you got the row?
I called him.
But then when we were at the premiere, me and
him had an awesome moment where we were watching it
and It was probably like my first time really watching,
you know, because when you do something you really want
to look at it. You like, you know, done all
these premiere screenings, I don't want to see it. But
for some reason, my dad was there. We built for
watching and then we looked at each other and we
laughed like twenty minutes, like throughout the whole thing, just
because we could not believe what was happening. It's like, Yo,
he's just like what, I'm like what, It's crazy, right,
there's a special moment for sure. Hell of a movie man.
He was a pimp at New Karate say, some people
are method actors. How did you get in that bad?
I've already done much.
I've done much WUSS for a long time since I
was like yeah ten, So that part wasn't the more
difficult part. But I think, just yeah, just trying to
find a new person, a new character. It's funny because
a lot of people who met me after that were like, oh,
you don't talk like that, or I'm like, no, guys,
don't talk like.
That at all.
It's a character I was playing somebody else, or you know,
I have people really try and make plays with me. Also,
after seeing it. I'm like, guys, I don't this isn't
semi profession.
I don't know.
I was.
I was at the bowling all and the due walked.
Up in front. He's like, Yo, you should see what
I got in the trunk. And that's some stuff.

What was one of the hardest roles you can played?
Bernie says, I think was one of the hardest ones.
I think that's the deepest I've gone into something, you know,

but is there a difference when you're performing your music
on stage or is it difference when you're like doing
a live play or something like that?
Is there differently a live play? Okay, okay, dude, I'm

of the hardest things because it's not just the song, right,
You're like remember to act and you're still dancing and
you're moving your breath work.

Like that's just way more difficult. When I'm doing my music,
it's my show, and if I want to take a seat.
I'm wanna take a seat if I need some water,
and like hold on, you know what I mean? I can,
I can do what I want. But if it's someone
else production, I got to do the job for sure.

who who understand acting and understand what they need and
go in there and know the shots that they want

the person to direct it.
