<v Speaker 1>Hey everybody, It's Tuesday, March fourth, twenty twenty five. Welcome
<v Speaker 1>to the Giant BombCast, Episode eight hundred and eighty. I'm
<v Speaker 1>your host, Jan Ochoa, and I want your soul. I
<v Speaker 1>want you to be mine. I feel the goosebumps. Baby,
<v Speaker 1>I'm geting in these arms.
<v Speaker 2>The matter is.
<v Speaker 3>Flowing through me because of these gentlemen, A signed, not
<v Speaker 3>a sign, sitting next to me, virtually next to my soul,
<v Speaker 3>and I need yours.
<v Speaker 4>No, captain, the ship is also here, Jeff Cowdy hid everybody?
<v Speaker 4>Oh are Canadian? Means bad at counting down from ten?
<v Speaker 4>Or a wrestling fans bad at counting down from ten?
<v Speaker 2>Why was the counting down?
<v Speaker 4>He could not keep in time an elimination chamber. They
<v Speaker 4>would start on time and then by the end they
<v Speaker 4>were saying like one and it would still be saying
<v Speaker 4>like three because they were counting too fast.
<v Speaker 5>It's like when Cesarro did the swing and then he
<v Speaker 5>would swing five times and people would count to you know, twenty, Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, people, they were done. Just bad account. It's wrestling fans, okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>it's a white says Nicky and Shadow, our man.
<v Speaker 1>On the street talking all things. Numbers he's he's counting
<v Speaker 1>with the folks at home. He may or may not
<v Speaker 1>have figured out that count from Sesame Street is about
<v Speaker 1>counting the record.
<v Speaker 2>No, let me be clear here, I knew he was
<v Speaker 2>about counting.
<v Speaker 5>I did not realize it was a count Dracula, Like,
<v Speaker 5>did that's Hanson explain the count Dracula thing while we
<v Speaker 5>were watching Elimination Chamber And I was like, Oh, that's incredible.
<v Speaker 1>He counted.
<v Speaker 2>That's obvious.
<v Speaker 4>Now why wire counts called counts.
<v Speaker 2>It's like a honorific.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, But like for like, what are they in charge of?
<v Speaker 2>I bet I know, I bet I know what they're counting.
<v Speaker 4>Go for it.
<v Speaker 1>No no, no, no, no, no no no, we haven't
<v Speaker 1>introduced you yet.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah you can't. I'm pretty sure it would. I'm just guessing, honestly,
<v Speaker 4>the county. Are they in charge of a county? Like
<v Speaker 4>count like in the way that a Dutch like a
<v Speaker 4>duke is in charge of a duchy?
<v Speaker 2>Is it a wine thing on our own?
<v Speaker 6>Travis Scott, he's got the rage sage the Rock is
<v Speaker 6>bringing him out and wrestle Mania. He's gonna punch Cody
<v Speaker 6>Roads a little too hard in the head, like Manati
<v Speaker 6>it's still real to me.
<v Speaker 2>Damn it. Hello, it's me. It's Mike Manati.
<v Speaker 1>So tell me about counts. Why do you think counter counts?
<v Speaker 7>Well, I mean count is definitely just like another word
<v Speaker 7>for a lord or something like that, So.
<v Speaker 2>Of a manor of a castle, right, what? Well? Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>but why do they have a cat.
<v Speaker 1>Because they're rich?
<v Speaker 7>Okay, that's you could just have a castle because you're rich,
<v Speaker 7>often though you're given it by the government in the
<v Speaker 7>olden times, and it's because you are the lord of
<v Speaker 7>that area and you have governmental responsibilities in report to
<v Speaker 7>the king.
<v Speaker 5>I was thinking about castles a lot yesterday because Grubb
<v Speaker 5>kept talking about entrapment.
<v Speaker 1>Sure, is there a castle and entrapment into a castle
<v Speaker 1>with lasers?
<v Speaker 7>M Oh yeah, okay, yeah, is that the butt laser movie?
<v Speaker 1>It's the Butler.
<v Speaker 5>If you say what is the butt laser movie? Unlike Jeopardy,
<v Speaker 5>the answer is what is entrappmant? If you google butt
<v Speaker 5>laser movie? Do I'm certain.
<v Speaker 2>Not justage search butt laser movie.
<v Speaker 4>Movie?
<v Speaker 7>Okay, human centipede came up real first, mostly human lasers.
<v Speaker 4>Okay, well, I suppose I did not count the human
<v Speaker 4>centiped What if.
<v Speaker 5>You added in quotes Catherine Zaida Jones. Well, that's just
<v Speaker 5>a movie and human Centipede. I have not seen it.
<v Speaker 1>No, no, man, what a weird movie. I watched a
<v Speaker 1>flick last night where it's called the Gorge and Miles
<v Speaker 1>Teller with kilometer teller. Yeah, yes, yes, a kilometer teller
<v Speaker 1>and Anya Taylor Joy.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>They're guarding a gorge and it's bad stuff in the gorge.
<v Speaker 1>It was. It was one of those movies.
<v Speaker 2>You said gorge, but I kept hearing my brain gorge.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, what do you mean? They're guarding like a pumpkin, like.
<v Speaker 1>Just some squash? Is I enjoyed that more?
<v Speaker 7>To be honest, is line is gonna come and like
<v Speaker 7>expect gifts from it or something?
<v Speaker 2>What's the issue?
<v Speaker 4>Gorge is a good word, right, that's a fun absolutely, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>it's top ten word, maybe.
<v Speaker 2>Just rounded into it. Then you have the commissioner from Batman.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, how many syllables are in the word gorge?
<v Speaker 2>One? One? One, yes, just one, just one. This is
<v Speaker 2>not going to be a thing syllable open shut.
<v Speaker 4>I've thought way too much about the oil one.
<v Speaker 2>The oil one is two yes, fire, okay, one, But
<v Speaker 2>it's the way I say it because if I were
<v Speaker 2>to fire, that's two. That's definitely yeah. Yeah, how's everyone doing,
<v Speaker 2>how's everyone going? It's a Tuesday, it's a it's a
<v Speaker 2>Jeff Grub. It's very dark where you're at.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, my my gatto Key lights power supply tried to
<v Speaker 4>kill me.
<v Speaker 2>Uh so I am let me kill you.
<v Speaker 4>Well, it just got very very very hot and stopped working,
<v Speaker 4>So I'm assuming something in there went bad and the like.
<v Speaker 4>After it stopped working, it didn't stop getting hot. So
<v Speaker 4>I'm like, oh, eventually this thing is going to just
<v Speaker 4>catch on fire. So I pulled it on the wall
<v Speaker 4>and we're good now safe, but it's dark and I'm scared.
<v Speaker 2>It's incredible that there's not just a switch to turn
<v Speaker 2>it on.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I mean that's a whole other thing right where
<v Speaker 4>it's like there is a switch to turn it on,
<v Speaker 4>but then it turns off immediately until you then go
<v Speaker 4>to a computer.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's really stud Oh. I bought a pizza steel
<v Speaker 1>yesterday and then I never felt more swindled in my
<v Speaker 1>life that this is just like a piece of metal.
<v Speaker 4>But I'm steely, like the thing in Indiana Jones he
<v Speaker 4>was finding.
<v Speaker 2>Oh that's a cooking thing.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, cooking thing I bought the news. Oh sorry, no, no, no, please,
<v Speaker 1>I want to hear.
<v Speaker 5>I was just saying, I caught onto the latest trend
<v Speaker 5>I learned about in cook culinary arts from Mike Manatti.
<v Speaker 1>The cast iron pan.
<v Speaker 2>That's a bad the new trendy thing. Cast iron man
<v Speaker 2>I forgot. I said that, like, what are you talking about?
<v Speaker 2>You a professional chef, and he roundly mocked you for it. No,
<v Speaker 2>all I was saying was that they were getting like
<v Speaker 2>really glazed up for a bit there. Of course, cast
<v Speaker 2>iron pants pan, Mike, it's not glazing. You wouldn't glaze.
<v Speaker 5>I'm learning about the seasoning and stuff. Yeah, because now
<v Speaker 5>I'm doing I've been doing all the cooking stuff and
<v Speaker 5>I always soon beat the chicken and they're like, oh,
<v Speaker 5>you can't see it.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, that seems like a whole lot to do,
<v Speaker 2>just to you know, you're just eating unseared.
<v Speaker 5>I was, and it's fine, it's not bad, but I
<v Speaker 5>am seering now. I don't see it about my putting
<v Speaker 5>them into tacos or something like that. If I'm just
<v Speaker 5>like shredding it up, I don't see it. But I've
<v Speaker 5>started searing it. With some canola oil and stuff and
<v Speaker 5>a cast iron pan before I make it. I made
<v Speaker 5>some par green beans.
<v Speaker 2>That want the new oil? Wait what sorry, go ahead, Jane, No,
<v Speaker 2>you unlocked the new oil.
<v Speaker 1>Dan. First it was just alive, then avocado. Now you're
<v Speaker 1>a canoe.
<v Speaker 5>Well no, because all have has a lower smoke points.
<v Speaker 5>So the thing is, actually, what have you done? My
<v Speaker 5>curiosity knows no bounds, Jane.
<v Speaker 1>You should know, that's what they say.
<v Speaker 4>You know, you have a lot of hit, like a
<v Speaker 4>lot of like history, like seasoning things. You had that
<v Speaker 4>shoe box. You seasoned the hell out.
<v Speaker 2>That's true.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I just I can to afford a cast iron pan.
<v Speaker 5>Now that new stuff.
<v Speaker 2>That chicken you weren't searing, did it have the skin on?
<v Speaker 4>Stell?
<v Speaker 7>I do boneless skinless, Okay, then that's fine. If you
<v Speaker 7>weren't searing skin on chicken, that would be crazy.
<v Speaker 5>Oh uh no, No, I haven't done that. Just I'm
<v Speaker 5>sure it's better with skin on, but it's also a
<v Speaker 5>lot more calories.
<v Speaker 7>I never get the skin on one, and everyone's like,
<v Speaker 7>the skin's the best part. I'm like, maybe you're right,
<v Speaker 7>it's also the hardest part to cook, and like the
<v Speaker 7>part that's maybe not as No.
<v Speaker 1>No, here's what you do, boys. You you get the
<v Speaker 1>skin skin chicken breast and you rip the skin off,
<v Speaker 1>you throw the skin in an air fryer, make your
<v Speaker 1>own little chicken skins.
<v Speaker 2>Crackling.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, what crackling is is krackling just like fried animal skin.
<v Speaker 2>I think so for the most part, don't don't don't
<v Speaker 2>quote me on that.
<v Speaker 4>I didn't get an ad for BUCkies. I don't think
<v Speaker 4>there's any BUCkies around me. And they have like they
<v Speaker 4>just sell like the fried chicken skins. And is that
<v Speaker 4>that's just the shoot chicken skins fried? I mean pork
<v Speaker 4>wines is just fried U right, pig skin?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 7>I saw a story about Buckney today. Apparently they were
<v Speaker 7>gonna build the first one here later this year and
<v Speaker 7>now got moved back to like twenty six.
<v Speaker 4>Now.
<v Speaker 7>I don't know where in Ohio, but right I hope
<v Speaker 7>near me because I went to the new Loves that
<v Speaker 7>they open up here, and it was like I had
<v Speaker 7>an amazing time there. I almost like I almost wished
<v Speaker 7>I was a trucker. The vibes were sood it's good.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I'm like, I I walk into a place like
<v Speaker 4>Loves and I'm like, I walk, I go to the bathroom,
<v Speaker 4>and then I see the other hallway. It's like showers,
<v Speaker 4>like really clean showers. I want to take a shower
<v Speaker 4>at a gas station. And I don't know why I
<v Speaker 4>think that, but I really do.
<v Speaker 7>There's like a PA system saying when like number forty
<v Speaker 7>or four, yeah, your turn, use the shower.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, they're so lucky.
<v Speaker 5>I think there was a novelty to uh to like
<v Speaker 5>showering in a place that you normally don't.
<v Speaker 8>Like.
<v Speaker 5>I feel that way, like airport lounges, Like when I
<v Speaker 5>sliming back to Tokyo, I was there like four hours
<v Speaker 5>early and there were just like showers in the lounge and.
<v Speaker 1>I was like, I just want to take a shower
<v Speaker 1>at the airport before I get Yeah, like crazy.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, and like something planes and stuff, if you depending
<v Speaker 5>on like what class and stuff, you shower, Like each
<v Speaker 5>passenger could.
<v Speaker 2>Get one shower during the flight. I've never done that.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, it's like shower in the seven eighty seven kind
<v Speaker 4>of have that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, if I want a plane shower.
<v Speaker 2>That's a lot of water desk beyond the plane to shower.
<v Speaker 5>Limited They limited by time and again each personally gets one,
<v Speaker 5>and obviously not everyone does it. So what if, like
<v Speaker 5>we just banked our time together, I might be found
<v Speaker 5>upon two p who if we're in first class godliness?
<v Speaker 2>Are you saying a shower together?
<v Speaker 1>Yes?
<v Speaker 2>Well I don't want to.
<v Speaker 4>Do you guess? The gas station is like the new meta.
<v Speaker 4>Have you guys been to a Walmart recently?
<v Speaker 1>Shockingly, no, I don't have any near me.
<v Speaker 4>Okay, I went to the Walmart the other day and
<v Speaker 4>the first thing you're greeted with now is a small
<v Speaker 4>like it's basically a gas station inside a Walmart quick
<v Speaker 4>convenience where it's like a several roads of like of
<v Speaker 4>energy drinks, water, gatorade, snacks, the kind of stuff you
<v Speaker 4>would see in a gas station. And I'm like, this.
<v Speaker 1>Rules in store.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, if it just feels that way, it just
<v Speaker 4>feels it feels like they took the aisles from a
<v Speaker 4>gas station and copy and copy it and pasted it
<v Speaker 4>inside of putting all the.
<v Speaker 2>Essentials right away. Right?
<v Speaker 1>Do they like checkers?
<v Speaker 2>Is there a dedicated checkout or like self service?
<v Speaker 4>No, but it's right it's right next to the to
<v Speaker 4>the self checkout.
<v Speaker 2>Too far from the entrance anyways.
<v Speaker 4>Adjacent to that. Yeah, so it was just like, oh
<v Speaker 4>they've this is like you know, psychology. Apparently men really
<v Speaker 4>like gas stations. So I think they're just like, we're
<v Speaker 4>gonna put this here for them so they can like
<v Speaker 4>have the you know, maybe spend a little bit more money.
<v Speaker 2>Remember how like the entertainment sections of like the Walmarts
<v Speaker 2>and Targets used to kind of be walled gardens, right,
<v Speaker 2>Like it was kind of a store. In the store,
<v Speaker 2>you can only go in and out one way, and
<v Speaker 2>there was a separate checkout for it. Also, like you
<v Speaker 2>want to buy a game, may mean that feel real special.
<v Speaker 2>You don't remember it, Jan, I don't have a Walmart.
<v Speaker 2>Well it's not as Walmart like like Target had that.
<v Speaker 2>Toys r Us had the whole different thing where it's
<v Speaker 2>just the window.
<v Speaker 1>For sure, little oh the tickets.
<v Speaker 5>Oh but not evenen. We went to the toys arrest
<v Speaker 5>here at the Mall of America, they didn't have that.
<v Speaker 5>But it seems like they had no physical get.
<v Speaker 2>They had no video games. Like they were almoly, Like
<v Speaker 2>we can't sell vegans anymore. Nobody nobody buys video games
<v Speaker 2>at stores. We just have to sell shoot toys because
<v Speaker 2>you can't download Lego yet.
<v Speaker 1>Right, Hey, your question for y'all. I went to a
<v Speaker 1>speak since we're talking about big box stores. I went
<v Speaker 1>to a cost co over the weekend.
<v Speaker 3>Here.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, trouble chocolate chunks.
<v Speaker 7>Junk double chip or something double doublenkie there.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, say you are the person scanning the items, right,
<v Speaker 1>Like generally at a costco, you'll load some items on
<v Speaker 1>the conveyor belt and then you put the cart behind
<v Speaker 1>the cashier and they'll like scan the items. Right, what
<v Speaker 1>would you do if there's just a child that won't
<v Speaker 1>move and is still in the cart, but there are
<v Speaker 1>items covering the child? Wait?
<v Speaker 2>Wait say this again you were I'm I got the beeper,
<v Speaker 2>I'm okay, right, and then like there's a bunch of
<v Speaker 2>items in a cart and covering a child that will
<v Speaker 2>not move.
<v Speaker 4>The wait, the items are covering the child or the
<v Speaker 4>child is covering the items.
<v Speaker 2>The items are covering the child and the child's not
<v Speaker 2>moving because the child.
<v Speaker 1>Is on an iPad.
<v Speaker 5>Oh protective services, Oh my god, yes, please let this focus.
<v Speaker 2>This sounds insane.
<v Speaker 1>What the.
<v Speaker 4>I mean?
<v Speaker 1>There's that that's a baby under there, that's like a
<v Speaker 1>like a six year old.
<v Speaker 4>How where's the where's the six year old? Six year
<v Speaker 4>old's head?
<v Speaker 1>Is it underneath the toilet paper there?
<v Speaker 4>Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god, oh god.
<v Speaker 4>I mean listen, we all love to be crushed. I mean,
<v Speaker 4>come on, I get it.
<v Speaker 2>You know I've never understood you too more than just now.
<v Speaker 2>This is this normal Ohio stuff to be Yeah, of course, Jit,
<v Speaker 2>I've never been to a Walmart. Is shocked.
<v Speaker 4>I've never thrown a kid into a basket in a
<v Speaker 4>cart and just like you know, whatever has happens.
<v Speaker 1>The coast me?
<v Speaker 5>Is this like because like I used to be the
<v Speaker 5>one to always like if we're going to the bar
<v Speaker 5>and we had a full car in college, I was
<v Speaker 5>always the one to be like, all ride in the
<v Speaker 5>trunk and I would just get like in the trunk,
<v Speaker 5>shut it, and it's just a fun, little like cozy,
<v Speaker 5>like this is my little trunck spot.
<v Speaker 1>Is it like that feeling like anti clophobia?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, okay, I.
<v Speaker 4>Definitely like recently been like I'm gonna pull the blanket
<v Speaker 4>around me pretty tight and get like really tightly. I
<v Speaker 4>think it's kind of like that, just like outside pressure
<v Speaker 4>pushing on you. Everybody always pushing out.
<v Speaker 2>I do you think kids have gotten like really bad
<v Speaker 2>at like walking around in crowded spaces, like my brother's
<v Speaker 2>nine year olds. Even they're nine. He's like, I can't
<v Speaker 2>just let him walk around and a target. Still they
<v Speaker 2>just trip all over themselves and bump into things. They
<v Speaker 2>still can't handle it. Yeah, I think we should be
<v Speaker 2>dancing more as a society. I think this would solve
<v Speaker 2>a lot more things. I get a foot going up
<v Speaker 2>in here.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, let's let's add a little bit of whimsy. Speaking
<v Speaker 1>about whimsy, you know it's whimsical. Games, Yes, Mike Manatti.
<v Speaker 2>Got it at won. Can you imagine if I said
<v Speaker 2>something like now ribbon dancing would be It is whimsical.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, video games, Mike Manatti, you win the ability
<v Speaker 1>to talk about the first game today, and that is Uh,
<v Speaker 1>we've talked about this a lot on this website. Actually,
<v Speaker 1>Uh the Thing remastered.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, I played through my fundishment from one Jeff Grubb,
<v Speaker 7>who is the superior hole digger kind of the superior.
<v Speaker 2>Giant mole dodger to be honest. But whatever the reason,
<v Speaker 2>he won, so he had all of us played the Thing,
<v Speaker 2>ring Master. I played through it in two settings. It's
<v Speaker 2>nice to have a good two setting game by the way, But.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, this was originally PS two original Xbox era kind
<v Speaker 7>of mix of an action game with Survival Whop got
<v Speaker 7>remastered by Nightdive recently. We talked about it a bit,
<v Speaker 7>but I really did enjoy this game. I have so
<v Speaker 7>much love for that era anyways, And you know, Dan,
<v Speaker 7>it's kind of like when I was watching you play
<v Speaker 7>Syops yesterday on Riker's Roulette. I love these PS two
<v Speaker 7>era games that are doing something pretty interesting. They even
<v Speaker 7>games today are still kind of trying to do maybe
<v Speaker 7>as well or maybe even.
<v Speaker 2>Just half as well. And the thing has some interesting
<v Speaker 2>AI Squadron stuff with people freaking out and worrying like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>the Thing's gonna get me, so you have to calm
<v Speaker 2>them down by giving them a weapon or giving them
<v Speaker 2>a shot of adrenaline, for giving yourself a blood test
<v Speaker 2>to show that you're not the thing.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, exactly, Like all that stuff is really neat, and
<v Speaker 7>there are some areas where it was kind of puzzling,
<v Speaker 7>Like there's is one level where you get captured and
<v Speaker 7>you lose all your guns, and there's a very specific
<v Speaker 7>sequence you sort of need to do of Okay, I
<v Speaker 7>got to dodge the thing and get the medic and
<v Speaker 7>then dodge the thing again and go to this other place,
<v Speaker 7>and then.
<v Speaker 5>I lured the thing into the medical room and there's
<v Speaker 5>a lot of stealth involvement.
<v Speaker 1>That was definitely the.
<v Speaker 2>Hardest part of the game to because that took me
<v Speaker 2>up the longest time. Would literally the weirdest game to
<v Speaker 2>race in. Oh, yeah, it would be a weird one. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>be a very weird.
<v Speaker 1>I also kind of want to see how all four
<v Speaker 1>of us would problem solve like the thing at the
<v Speaker 1>same time.
<v Speaker 5>Like a weirder game to maybe like Papers Please, would
<v Speaker 5>be a weird race game.
<v Speaker 2>That one situation you do mostly just shoot the thing, uh. Like.
<v Speaker 7>The game's pretty generous with Ammo and things like that.
<v Speaker 7>It's like the survival horror element of it. It's it's
<v Speaker 7>not like a resident evil or a classic resident evil, right.
<v Speaker 7>Sometimes it is more about your squad uh and just
<v Speaker 7>telling them what to do. It is funny, like because
<v Speaker 7>just like in one of these games, your squad members
<v Speaker 7>never survive very long either, they'll get turned into a thing.
<v Speaker 7>Like you're supposed to test them to be see if
<v Speaker 7>they're the things sometimes if you want to. I kind
<v Speaker 7>of never really bothered with that much because like they're
<v Speaker 7>still useful. If there's been pretending to be a thing,
<v Speaker 7>once they turn into a thing, it's pretty easy to
<v Speaker 7>kill them real quick.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I just kept them around until they freaked out,
<v Speaker 5>and then I just flamed throard them, like use your times.
<v Speaker 1>We talked about The Thing remastered a bunch in uh
<v Speaker 1>during Revengeance. I have a question for you two and
<v Speaker 1>grub you as well. What developer studio would you trust
<v Speaker 1>with a game like The Thing? Now?
<v Speaker 5>You know what, I know this is a lofty one,
<v Speaker 5>but like looking at what rock started with, like the Warriors,
<v Speaker 5>where it's like the rock Star is obviously a big
<v Speaker 5>team that has a lot of reverence for movies and
<v Speaker 5>music and things like that, and I feel like I
<v Speaker 5>would trust them if they cared enough to make a
<v Speaker 5>game based on a movie, they're gonna do it right,
<v Speaker 5>Like the Warriors game was like that's kind of what
<v Speaker 5>you would want a Warriors game to be like, So
<v Speaker 5>maybe then.
<v Speaker 7>Okay, I mean obviously the Alien hot uh, the Alien
<v Speaker 7>Isolation people at Creative Assembly could do something there right, Uh.
<v Speaker 4>By Randy Pittford and the ALIENA you go, right.
<v Speaker 2>I had the wrong Alien game.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, that wrong one. You look like a real asshole.
<v Speaker 2>Stupid dumb dumb who's the saber interactive?
<v Speaker 4>Is kind of I think a realistic one that I
<v Speaker 4>think it would be pretty good at this they do
<v Speaker 4>John Carpenter game. Uh, they're doing a bunch of games.
<v Speaker 7>They might be that Jurassic Park game that we haven't
<v Speaker 7>seen since they announced it. But it looks really cool
<v Speaker 7>in the announcement.
<v Speaker 1>Looked at meat.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, yeah, and Evil Dead the game and all that stuff.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, it's a toxic Commando or something, the Carpenter one,
<v Speaker 5>which Carpenter like he does his likeness appeiors in the game.
<v Speaker 4>Right.
<v Speaker 5>It was so clear that this game was made by
<v Speaker 5>people who understood and cared about the film. Because I
<v Speaker 5>feel like, especially back in those days, there's so many
<v Speaker 5>just licenses that just got sold to Acclaim or whoever,
<v Speaker 5>which we'll talk about in a bit, it's just like okay,
<v Speaker 5>here's just like it's got the likeness or just the
<v Speaker 5>general plot points around. But like this one, it's like, okay,
<v Speaker 5>they are clearly trying to incorporate the distrusted and the
<v Speaker 5>testing and all that stuff from the movies.
<v Speaker 1>So I like, yeah, it was.
<v Speaker 7>Trying things, you know, and a lot of it like worked,
<v Speaker 7>like some of it like nothing didn't work. Some of
<v Speaker 7>it was maybe just not as consequential as it could
<v Speaker 7>have been. But and the vibes were very good, especially
<v Speaker 7>early on when you are like in those locations straight
<v Speaker 7>from the movie, like, yeah, this feels like.
<v Speaker 2>The thing, This is awesome.
<v Speaker 4>Yep.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it was a fun one.
<v Speaker 1>I kind of look forward to the next punishment and
<v Speaker 1>maybe and I'm not king shaming there if you are
<v Speaker 1>too at home, Jeff Grubb, you talked about this a
<v Speaker 1>little bit yesterday on Game Mess Mornings soon to be named,
<v Speaker 1>but I'm very curious to hear more about Claire Obscure
<v Speaker 1>Expedition thirty three. Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>I think it's I think it's really good. It's a
<v Speaker 4>lot of fun. They know what they have and they
<v Speaker 4>focus on that and they make all that stuff as
<v Speaker 4>good as possible, that being a really snappy, fun combat
<v Speaker 4>that has a lot going on, and all the stuff
<v Speaker 4>going on doesn't feel like too much. It all just
<v Speaker 4>feels like complimentary to one another. So that's like you'll
<v Speaker 4>get into combat and you'll start off and you'll be
<v Speaker 4>faced with these sort of robotic looking enemies that have
<v Speaker 4>giant like triangles for heads and there's glass in the middle,
<v Speaker 4>and you're like, well, that looks vulnerable. So there is
<v Speaker 4>a real time component to this combat that is mostly
<v Speaker 4>turn based, and that real time element is you can
<v Speaker 4>just aim and shoot with a magic gun and so
<v Speaker 4>you shoot them right in the middle of their triangle
<v Speaker 4>and that does massive damage. That sets them up for
<v Speaker 4>for now. You can like they've been softened up so now.
<v Speaker 4>But that uses action points, So then you want to
<v Speaker 4>go over to your attack, use your normal attack that
<v Speaker 4>builds up action points, and then you get to your spells.
<v Speaker 4>There's spells that use a little bit action points, and
<v Speaker 4>then there's some that will use all of your action points.
<v Speaker 4>You kind of want to like do this flow of
<v Speaker 4>going back and forth between these various things.
<v Speaker 2>That sounds so hot.
<v Speaker 4>I think turn based g RPG fans are gonna be
<v Speaker 4>very horny for this one.
<v Speaker 2>I know it is.
<v Speaker 5>It looks even I am interested because it's like the
<v Speaker 5>ones I have been able to get in are the
<v Speaker 5>ones that have that actual components of timing and dodge,
<v Speaker 5>maybe paper Mario ma Mario Luigi, that type of stuff.
<v Speaker 5>And I watched tam and Lucy's video and game spot
<v Speaker 5>about this, and just seeing the scene you actually aim
<v Speaker 5>with the gun and just the way the back and
<v Speaker 5>forth looks looks really snappy and stylish.
<v Speaker 2>So I think I'm gonna give this a real shot.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I think there's a chance, Like Dan, you're going,
<v Speaker 4>I think you the things you will be turned off
<v Speaker 4>by is it's so over dramatic in the way that
<v Speaker 4>presents itself as like a fantasy game. But I think
<v Speaker 4>if metaphors can be reality in the beginning, it doesn't.
<v Speaker 4>It doesn't do stuff like that. But like everyone's very
<v Speaker 4>dour and serious because they're you know, people dying and
<v Speaker 4>there's dead bodies everywhere and stuff like that. It is
<v Speaker 4>dowur and serious, but it's just it's got theater kiit
<v Speaker 4>energy and I get that positive uh like, And that's
<v Speaker 4>not in terms of the way like the story is told.
<v Speaker 4>It's just the way that the characters move and animate.
<v Speaker 4>But it's like, I don't know that we that lends
<v Speaker 4>into the snappiness of it because it's just everything just
<v Speaker 4>everyone moves and you feel like when you press a
<v Speaker 4>button stuff happens, like the character will do this flair,
<v Speaker 4>this move to be like I'm opening up the menu
<v Speaker 4>and it just looks pretty neat. But I think that
<v Speaker 4>you know, you could see the seams, and those seams
<v Speaker 4>are you're going down corridors. I you know, in my brain,
<v Speaker 4>I've initially went to like Final Fantasy thirteen, but apparently
<v Speaker 4>people say it's much more like Final Fantasy ten.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, but those are the two more linear term like
<v Speaker 7>Final Fantasy games, and there is a difference found Fantasy
<v Speaker 7>thirteen is just like straight hip walk down the corridors
<v Speaker 7>and fight and watch cut scenes.
<v Speaker 2>For the most part.
<v Speaker 7>Ten has like some some branching paths and you go
<v Speaker 7>to a town and whatnot. Still, yes, there's more to
<v Speaker 7>it with ten, for sure in terms of the linearity.
<v Speaker 4>It definitely if I felt very corridory to me early on,
<v Speaker 4>and then uh mean, yeah, I kind of throw maybe
<v Speaker 4>there's some branches later on. But that is I think
<v Speaker 4>this is a good choice cause they have a limited budget.
<v Speaker 4>This isn't a team that has all the money in
<v Speaker 4>the world, and so they're doing the thing of Okay,
<v Speaker 4>we can make it big and open and expansive and
<v Speaker 4>great looking, and it'll take a lot of time and
<v Speaker 4>cost a lot of money. It's like well, okay, Instead,
<v Speaker 4>let's just make these corridors where clearly, if you were
<v Speaker 4>to look over that hill right there, there would be nothing.
<v Speaker 4>The game would just be nothingness. So let's just make
<v Speaker 4>this corridor look really nice, give you a few like
<v Speaker 4>small little nooks and crannies to explore here and there,
<v Speaker 4>and then get you back into the combat, which I
<v Speaker 4>think is the star of the show, and it's it's
<v Speaker 4>a ton of fun. So yeah, I think people are
<v Speaker 4>really going to latch onto this if they can get
<v Speaker 4>into combat, and I think most people actually will be
<v Speaker 4>able to. And like, yeah, the timing on the Dodges
<v Speaker 4>and the Perrys, Like once I started getting into that,
<v Speaker 4>you get like it does it gives you multiple ways
<v Speaker 4>of understanding what the enemy is going to do. Like
<v Speaker 4>obviously it's animated, like hey, I'm winding up for an attack,
<v Speaker 4>but the enemy itself will make some sound effects to
<v Speaker 4>kind of let you know they're building up to the attack,
<v Speaker 4>and the music also lines up with that. So Subsconstira
<v Speaker 4>I got very good at like lining up Perry's to
<v Speaker 4>the point where I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, that's a
<v Speaker 4>high risk, high reward, but boy, when you nail them
<v Speaker 4>it feels incredible. You do damage of course, and response
<v Speaker 4>to that because it is a Perry Yeah, and then yeah,
<v Speaker 4>the music is phenomenal.
<v Speaker 1>I think the.
<v Speaker 4>Presentation is top notch. It just has, you know, a
<v Speaker 4>lot of extra flare to it that is in my heart.
<v Speaker 4>I'm like, I am charmed by this, even if I
<v Speaker 4>think it is a bit much.
<v Speaker 1>It looks so dang cool. And if More Fantasy looked
<v Speaker 1>like this, I think I'd be into Wizards more.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 7>Sure, I am into Wizards, and I am into JRPGs
<v Speaker 7>or turn based RPGs or what have you. And I
<v Speaker 7>am so excited for this one. It had that incredible
<v Speaker 7>showing at the what that Xbox event we had earlier
<v Speaker 7>in the year, and ever since this has kind of
<v Speaker 7>become one of my most anticipated games of the year,
<v Speaker 7>you know, like like last year we had Metaphor Refantasias,
<v Speaker 7>this really big JERRPG experience, and feel like this is
<v Speaker 7>maybe going to fill up a similar slot in a
<v Speaker 7>lot of ways. Everything Jeff is saying sounds good to me.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, Yeah, I think it's a It's interesting that, you know,
<v Speaker 1>Squenix kind of fumbled the bag with well. I enjoyed
<v Speaker 1>Final Fantasy sixteen, but the wider Final Fantasy sixteen or
<v Speaker 1>Final Fantasy audience didn't quite mesh well with it. I
<v Speaker 1>wonder if this might eat its lunch.
<v Speaker 4>I think my opinion come like playing this was definitely
<v Speaker 4>like this is I think the thing that most Final
<v Speaker 4>Fantasy fans are asking for from squar Enix right in
<v Speaker 4>this moment, because you know, at when Squirens tries these
<v Speaker 4>other things trying to get away from the I think
<v Speaker 4>still the criticisms of Final Fantasy thirteen, I think that
<v Speaker 4>they're like, oh, you left, you threw the baby out
<v Speaker 4>with the bathwater, and this game feels like no, Actually,
<v Speaker 4>just make the stuff you were doing as good as possible,
<v Speaker 4>look as cool as possible, and make the combat kind
<v Speaker 4>of exquisite to engage with, and you have what we
<v Speaker 4>want from Final Fantasy. So I think this will inform
<v Speaker 4>a lot of the criticism going forward for Final Fantasy
<v Speaker 4>and kind of like let people's voice, Hey, Squarreen, this
<v Speaker 4>is what we want at least for one of your games.
<v Speaker 4>It doesn't have to be every Final Fantasy game, but
<v Speaker 4>at least one should be. You should play a lot
<v Speaker 4>more like this.
<v Speaker 1>Grob, what was the last turn? Based rpg you remember
<v Speaker 1>kind of digging.
<v Speaker 4>I mean if obviously I liked Infinite Wealth, okay, but
<v Speaker 4>you know I liked I like turn based combat. That's
<v Speaker 4>never been my issue with with RPGs, for sure. I
<v Speaker 4>like turn based combat a lot.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you were kind of getting into drin Quest eleven.
<v Speaker 2>I think you felt.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, Dragon Quest eleven. Yeah, I played like a
<v Speaker 4>good fifteen hours that that was. Now must be how
<v Speaker 4>old is it addy, because I played it on.
<v Speaker 2>My Yeah, it's a bit. It was like twenty six
<v Speaker 2>six or seven years or something like that, seventeen something
<v Speaker 2>like that. I'm looking at like gameplayer of the combat here.
<v Speaker 2>It looks so freaking good.
<v Speaker 7>It's just it does look like a mix of like
<v Speaker 7>Persona five with fun music and maybe.
<v Speaker 2>Some legend of Dragoon in there a little bit. I
<v Speaker 2>don't know.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, it's yeah, I again, the look is so interesting.
<v Speaker 4>I've said this elsewhere, but I'll just repeat it for
<v Speaker 4>this podcast. That the visuals, because of the motion capture
<v Speaker 4>of the like and that popping off every time you
<v Speaker 4>press any button, it does look like just real people
<v Speaker 4>on a stage putting on a performance. And then there's
<v Speaker 4>Persona five menus layered on top of them, like as
<v Speaker 4>if that if that were possible, that's what it looks like,
<v Speaker 4>and that is a really cool effect. It gives it
<v Speaker 4>this this real sense of things are popping off the screen.
<v Speaker 4>Part of that, I think is that the menus are
<v Speaker 4>three D rendered and so that they exist in the
<v Speaker 4>world as far as like the lighting and the physics
<v Speaker 4>are concerned and things like that. So, uh, you just
<v Speaker 4>get the sense that there's this space is magical and
<v Speaker 4>that you are reaching into the screen and kind of
<v Speaker 4>making these decisions. I just it's really really working for me.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. Part of the combat also reminds me of Legend
<v Speaker 1>of Legaiago for the ps FOE.
<v Speaker 7>Sometimes I get Legend of Dragoon and Legend Lagaya mix up,
<v Speaker 7>but they're kind of similar in some ways, not just
<v Speaker 7>because they both have the word legend in it. Like
<v Speaker 7>Kaya was the one where you like almost did like fighting.
<v Speaker 1>I'm I'm all for other developers taking on like the
<v Speaker 1>Persona formula and the Final Fantasy Formula and spinning on
<v Speaker 1>its head because this looks really freaking sweet. When is
<v Speaker 1>this coming out in a month?
<v Speaker 4>I think it's the end of the end of aprilish
<v Speaker 4>Holy shit, I am so, I'm so excited for this, Greg.
<v Speaker 1>Were you any were you able to get any inkling
<v Speaker 1>of what the story is like and why it's called
<v Speaker 1>Claire Obscure?
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, this is so. This is not spoiler. It
<v Speaker 4>is the setup to the game. Every year a like
<v Speaker 4>a witch, a witch or something called the painter, something
<v Speaker 4>like that paintress. I think she paints a number and
<v Speaker 4>that number right represents everyone of that age and they
<v Speaker 4>will die. So there is an expedition sent out to
<v Speaker 4>stop this witch and kill her. I believe to kill
<v Speaker 4>her so that this will stop happening. I don't. I
<v Speaker 4>think Expedition thirty three be called Exhibition thirty three because
<v Speaker 4>everyone is thirty three years old and they're going out
<v Speaker 4>to like stop them.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's what it is. I'm thirty thirty.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, there for you. And the tone of the game is,
<v Speaker 4>you know, fantasy for sure, very gruesome. Early on, there
<v Speaker 4>are piles of dead bodies and a room with like
<v Speaker 4>heavy red light just to let you know, yes, yes,
<v Speaker 4>that is blood everywhere that you're seeing, and the character
<v Speaker 4>you could tell us like having a this is traumatic
<v Speaker 4>for him, and he's like silent because he can't talk
<v Speaker 4>and you know, then the friend comes along, it's like, no,
<v Speaker 4>you got to pick yourself up and let's get back
<v Speaker 4>to Ben. And then it kind of gets back to
<v Speaker 4>the tone of Yay, we're having fights a little bit.
<v Speaker 4>But in those moments of the cut scene, it is
<v Speaker 4>heavily produced, very very impressive looking, CGI cool moments, a
<v Speaker 4>lot of good acting, really good performances. I think this
<v Speaker 4>is one of the Ben Star games. His friends are
<v Speaker 4>in there too, Everyone's killing it. So yeah, I think
<v Speaker 4>it's going to be at a very emotional kind of
<v Speaker 4>game in terms of the.
<v Speaker 7>That's going to be like the first JRPG ever where
<v Speaker 7>there's no party members under the age.
<v Speaker 2>Of thirty.
<v Speaker 1>Infinite wealth.
<v Speaker 4>Oh you're right. If well, how old was the girl?
<v Speaker 4>I think she was a little bit younger.
<v Speaker 1>She would late twenties.
<v Speaker 2>Yah, get her out of here.
<v Speaker 4>Then. Yeah, I don't know, Mike, there's definitely some older,
<v Speaker 4>older characters. I don't know, if I've seen any people.
<v Speaker 7>As a real JRPG, there would be like thirty six,
<v Speaker 7>they would call him old man Charlie.
<v Speaker 2>All right or something. Isn't the new Daredevil show.
<v Speaker 4>I believe, Yeah, we'll see I watch it.
<v Speaker 1>Speaking about fantasy settings. I briefly checked out Nights in
<v Speaker 1>Tight Spaces, Oh right, sequel to Fights in Tight Spaces,
<v Speaker 1>and I never checked out the original game. I feel
<v Speaker 1>like it'd be up my alley because it's like loosely tiles,
<v Speaker 1>loosely tactics, and I really wish that I enjoyed this
<v Speaker 1>game more.
<v Speaker 4>It is.
<v Speaker 1>You have a small map and it is run based.
<v Speaker 1>It's a roguelikes, so you have like the branching path
<v Speaker 1>of where to go, whether or not you want to
<v Speaker 1>take on a combat mission, visit a blacksmith to upgrade
<v Speaker 1>your cards, or just some miscellaneous random chance encounters, unlock
<v Speaker 1>some treasure, heel up, recruit new party members, et cetera.
<v Speaker 1>But like the flow of the combat, I'm not really
<v Speaker 1>clicking with just yet, and I don't know if that's
<v Speaker 1>because I'm kind of growing fatigued with card based games.
<v Speaker 1>So how it works is you start with one character
<v Speaker 1>and you and generally your objective is to just eliminate
<v Speaker 1>all the other enemies. You have a mana meter that
<v Speaker 1>is shared once you unlock more characters, and the different
<v Speaker 1>character archetypes that you start with. You have your warrior,
<v Speaker 1>you have a rogue any hunter, which is used as
<v Speaker 1>a bow and arrow. But for some reason, I don't
<v Speaker 1>know if it's like the tiles aren't clicky enough for me.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe it's two soft tiles for my taste, or maybe
<v Speaker 1>the overall art style. But I'm not digging this as much,
<v Speaker 1>even compared to the TMNT Tactics demo from last week,
<v Speaker 1>because this it just feels a little slow for the
<v Speaker 1>tight space that I'm in. And even when I did
<v Speaker 1>unlock and I had a full party of three players
<v Speaker 1>or three party members, it just didn't feel like it
<v Speaker 1>was clicking off and popping off in the way that
<v Speaker 1>I wanted it to. Despite like tight being in the title,
<v Speaker 1>it didn't feel like a tight experience like it just
<v Speaker 1>made me long for something that was snappy, like Tactical
<v Speaker 1>Breach Wizards from last year, and just made me want
<v Speaker 1>to circle back to something like Into the Breach. Maybe
<v Speaker 1>I'll give it some more time, but even some of
<v Speaker 1>the auto attacks where you know you'll have a party
<v Speaker 1>member that is next to an enemy and it's supposed
<v Speaker 1>to auto attack, none of that felt like the sequences
<v Speaker 1>were coming off how I wanted them to. And the
<v Speaker 1>big thing in tactics games at the moment or or
<v Speaker 1>this is the this is the gas station meta is uh,
<v Speaker 1>you were kind of operating on a map in a void,
<v Speaker 1>so you can kind of push people off the map,
<v Speaker 1>and I could just never get that position wise to
<v Speaker 1>to work because your movement is tied to one of
<v Speaker 1>your cards. And I think that might be where I
<v Speaker 1>took an issue with because positionality or positioning huge, huge,
<v Speaker 1>huge in like tactics games, and the fact that that
<v Speaker 1>is tied to one of my man of points kind
<v Speaker 1>of was obscuring my own uh uh tacticing with the game.
<v Speaker 1>I wish I liked it more, but may it's because
<v Speaker 1>it's a fantasy game. Maybe I don't like nights.
<v Speaker 4>Perhaps maybe I enjoyed fights and tight spaces, but I
<v Speaker 4>did not fall in love with it. And this sounds
<v Speaker 4>pretty similar. Maybe I'll give it a shot and see.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah there's a no Elex Deborrow loved fights and tight spaces.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>There was like a combo system that I couldn't quite
<v Speaker 1>a momentum system I couldn't quite wrap my head around.
<v Speaker 1>And then just some of the UI stuff just felt
<v Speaker 1>a little clunkier than it had to be. And I
<v Speaker 1>feel like, you know, switching between party members has just
<v Speaker 1>been so streamlined in other games that the way it
<v Speaker 1>was handled in Knights and Tight Spaces just felt clunky.
<v Speaker 1>Speaking about nights, they're generally knights in and cavemen and
<v Speaker 1>war re enactments and other big dioramas in museums. In
<v Speaker 1>Mike Manatti, you've been spending your time at a museum yourself, a.
<v Speaker 7>Bunch of museums, all of my museums, and two point Museum.
<v Speaker 7>I talked about this game a bit. Today's the official
<v Speaker 7>release state. There's like a lot of big games right now,
<v Speaker 7>big games coming out, and a lot of very good ones.
<v Speaker 7>I'm enjoying them, but this Two point Museum is my game.
<v Speaker 7>I am playing a ton of this and just having
<v Speaker 7>so much fun, almost like getting up in the morning
<v Speaker 7>be like, well this is a day I'll be able
<v Speaker 7>to play more Two point Museum and being happy about it.
<v Speaker 4>A reason to live exact.
<v Speaker 2>We can't use some of those these days. Gosh, it's
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, it's just so engaging.
<v Speaker 7>It's a management sim and sometimes in those maybe you
<v Speaker 7>have a lot of downtime you're just waiting for things
<v Speaker 7>to kind of happen, But there's always something you can
<v Speaker 7>be doing some little minmaxing thing reorganizing the museum, or
<v Speaker 7>just being like, well, I should decorate the security room
<v Speaker 7>so that when like the security supervisor comes in, maybe
<v Speaker 7>I'll get a little bonus because he's really impressed that
<v Speaker 7>I put up some extra security screens in there. Just
<v Speaker 7>the way that you do have multiple museums. So I
<v Speaker 7>have my main kind of natural history museum and an
<v Speaker 7>aquarium in the space museum, and it's always like, hey,
<v Speaker 7>right now to get your next big, uh kind of
<v Speaker 7>progression thing, get three stars in every museum. So I'll
<v Speaker 7>go to this museum for a bit, then I'll go
<v Speaker 7>to the different one, and each one is kind of
<v Speaker 7>its own self contained campaigns. Just the variety in the
<v Speaker 7>pacing there feels fantastic. Yeah, I'm just liking this one
<v Speaker 7>a lot.
<v Speaker 2>I think I'm trying to get Jeff maybe to check
<v Speaker 2>it out from I don't know if you're still plan
<v Speaker 2>with that, Jeff.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, it's the plan right now. I think the only
<v Speaker 4>thing I was thinking maybe might replace it as thug
<v Speaker 4>pro But no, I'm gonna play this because you are
<v Speaker 4>so hot on it when I give it a shot.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, gimmicks and it's such a The game like just
<v Speaker 7>eases you into the game so so quickly.
<v Speaker 2>It's not a boring tutorial process. You do just start
<v Speaker 2>playing the game.
<v Speaker 7>You know, you get like tool tips and some things
<v Speaker 7>explaining the systems, but it's not bogged down in that
<v Speaker 7>stuff at all.
<v Speaker 4>Well, I'm gonna i you, is this something the kind
<v Speaker 4>of thing that eventually could work really well? And like
<v Speaker 4>iPad because this is a game I think I want
<v Speaker 4>to just like have with me all the time or
<v Speaker 4>something like that.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not sure.
<v Speaker 4>How about even like steam Deck steam Deck, I think.
<v Speaker 7>It works on h I think it has console control
<v Speaker 7>so the Steam Deck I bet probably completely fine. Yeah, okay,
<v Speaker 7>apparently the Two Point Campus came out on switch, so consoles.
<v Speaker 4>Okay, then they probably figured it out. I played all
<v Speaker 4>SIB seven on Steam decks.
<v Speaker 7>And this game's coming out for PlayStation five and Xbox
<v Speaker 7>or Access, so yeah, it has console controls.
<v Speaker 2>So there you go.
<v Speaker 4>In my brain, these games like this and like SIB
<v Speaker 4>things like that that work you know traditionally PC. I'm like, well,
<v Speaker 4>I just got to get on the PC for that.
<v Speaker 4>But like, they figured out console controls a long time ago,
<v Speaker 4>so I should just get get on board with that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I've always been curious about these two point games.
<v Speaker 1>I was interested in two point Campus, but never actually
<v Speaker 1>checked it out, so I.
<v Speaker 7>Never checked out the other ones either. Now, hospitals sound stressful.
<v Speaker 7>I don't want to run a hospital, Like what am
<v Speaker 7>I gonna do with all the corpses?
<v Speaker 2>But two point Campus? Let the clowns eat them, right.
<v Speaker 1>I feel calmer in a hospital than I do.
<v Speaker 2>A campus or a museum. Really, I don't. I would lie.
<v Speaker 2>If I could just live in a hospital, I would
<v Speaker 2>do that.
<v Speaker 4>What stress?
<v Speaker 5>I'm about a museum and nothing stresses me out about it.
<v Speaker 5>It's just a hospital is just like I'm safe, you know.
<v Speaker 5>So it's like it's the opposite of stress. Is a hospital?
<v Speaker 5>Like I got an anxiety thing. This is an anxiety thing.
<v Speaker 5>Where's like, yeah, oh god, if something goes horribly wrong,
<v Speaker 5>I'm in the right place for it, you know.
<v Speaker 2>I guess, I guess.
<v Speaker 4>I don't want to give you reasons to be anxious
<v Speaker 4>of a hospital, so I'll just be quiet.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I was just I would live in a hospital.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't want to go down this thought train
<v Speaker 2>with you. You can't, Yeah, I can't. I can't descend
<v Speaker 2>down this, so instead I'm going to go to Jeff
<v Speaker 2>Grubb and go to Descenders next.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, so one game I didn't put on the list
<v Speaker 4>was ten eighty, which I beat last night. I went
<v Speaker 4>through normal hard an expert, and so I was like, man,
<v Speaker 4>snowboarding games rule, but they were better when it was
<v Speaker 4>just ten eighty and SSA like those are the you know,
<v Speaker 4>the arcady and the sort of arcadie sam that ten
<v Speaker 4>eighty is. And every time I try to look into
<v Speaker 4>a new snowboarding game, it never quite you know, get
<v Speaker 4>get it right for what I'm looking for. It's either
<v Speaker 4>not enough SSX or not enough ten eighty. So Descenders
<v Speaker 4>next is from the company that did Descenders, which is
<v Speaker 4>that Downhill Bike Bicycle BMX game. It was very good,
<v Speaker 4>like they nailed that. That was a lot of fun.
<v Speaker 4>This kind of takes that idea and applies to the
<v Speaker 4>snowboarding and what it The real analogue here is it's
<v Speaker 4>much more like skate for snowboarding. So it's dual analog
<v Speaker 4>control for all the all the motions you're doing. So
<v Speaker 4>left controls basically your feet, your how you how you
<v Speaker 4>maneuver the snowboard and the right kind of controls your
<v Speaker 4>hips and whether or not you sort of like want
<v Speaker 4>to dig the carve into the snow really hard by
<v Speaker 4>like hitting left both left on both the analyttics at
<v Speaker 4>the same time, and that's a cool feeling. Like that
<v Speaker 4>really gets the idea of what it's like the snowboard,
<v Speaker 4>which is kind of what I want from these games.
<v Speaker 4>It's why like ten eight so much. And so when
<v Speaker 4>you are going to do an ALI off of a ramp,
<v Speaker 4>you need to just kind of hold down on the
<v Speaker 4>right stick and that causes you to scrunch down, you
<v Speaker 4>get more speed, and then you push up on it
<v Speaker 4>to do a full jump off the top and that
<v Speaker 4>feels really good. And then use the left stick sort
<v Speaker 4>of start the sideways movement of doing a spin or
<v Speaker 4>maybe that's the right stick, and then the left will
<v Speaker 4>do like whether or not you're going to try to
<v Speaker 4>do like a sideways flip or an upside down flip,
<v Speaker 4>things like that. It all worked really well. I think
<v Speaker 4>what really kind of nails it is the fact that
<v Speaker 4>the snow physics are really on point. You really do
<v Speaker 4>feel like you're carving into the snow very hard. It
<v Speaker 4>does this thing where to get speed. You just press
<v Speaker 4>a and you hop forward. That looks a little janky.
<v Speaker 4>It doesn't like look right, so it doesn't like really
<v Speaker 4>convey the feeling of moving over snow and the way
<v Speaker 4>I want. But I feel like this is the kind
<v Speaker 4>of thing that they dial in with these games because
<v Speaker 4>they develop these games for a long period of time
<v Speaker 4>and always update them. So I'm kind of hoping, like
<v Speaker 4>make that look a little bit better and we might
<v Speaker 4>really have something here. But yeah, it's got a mountain
<v Speaker 4>you explore with the various kind of different kinds of
<v Speaker 4>tracks and courses where here's a park where there's a
<v Speaker 4>bunch of ramps, and we're gonna give you Tony Hawk's
<v Speaker 4>style objectives. You know, go do a three sixty over
<v Speaker 4>the SnowCat, do a five point forty mellon off the
<v Speaker 4>vertical ramp. My one issue with this is I couldn't
<v Speaker 4>find anything. I couldn't find the SnowCat. This is a big,
<v Speaker 4>massive park with different like trails going down it like
<v Speaker 4>forking off in various directions, and I was like looking
<v Speaker 4>for a map. Maybe I just missed that, but I
<v Speaker 4>just could not find any of these specific points that
<v Speaker 4>I was supposed to do these specific objectives. So anything
<v Speaker 4>where it's like you could just do this trick anywhere,
<v Speaker 4>that was fine, but actually navigating the space was was
<v Speaker 4>pretty difficult. But again, these this give the demo. This
<v Speaker 4>game's not out yet, it's it's coming soon. I think
<v Speaker 4>that they will probably iron out some of those issues
<v Speaker 4>and make it a little bit easier if they could
<v Speaker 4>just like put a waypoint out there for me, which
<v Speaker 4>they weren't doing, or like if you got close to one,
<v Speaker 4>just kind of be like, here's the way point for
<v Speaker 4>it now, that would work. But otherwise, it just feels
<v Speaker 4>really cool to snowboard in this game, and that's sort
<v Speaker 4>of my my bouncing off point. If I can get
<v Speaker 4>past that, if I'm enjoying that aspect of it, everything
<v Speaker 4>else is really secondary for me. So yeah, this has
<v Speaker 4>been the It's like a new pillar in my snowboarding
<v Speaker 4>game enjoyment. I'm excited about that.
<v Speaker 1>I love it. I love it. I have been checking
<v Speaker 1>it out. Everhood two. Did any of y'all ever check
<v Speaker 1>out the original one?
<v Speaker 4>No? Everhood? Right? No, I don't ever know Whateverhood is.
<v Speaker 1>So ever Everhood and Neghverhood two. It is kind of
<v Speaker 1>a bullet hell rhythm game.
<v Speaker 2>It looks like Jimmy Stage and Warrior Ware.
<v Speaker 1>Sure, yes, yes that is. That was the touchstone that
<v Speaker 1>I arrived to as well, Thank you. Where you're not
<v Speaker 1>quite hitting the notes, you're kind of avoiding them. But
<v Speaker 1>with some of the notes are most of the notes,
<v Speaker 1>you can absorb them. And if you absorb three or
<v Speaker 1>more of similar colored notes, So say you're getting blasted
<v Speaker 1>by reds and blues, and you are absorbing all of
<v Speaker 1>the blues, you can fire off your blue stored to
<v Speaker 1>power to the enemy attacking you. And there are some
<v Speaker 1>notes that cannot be absorbed. You have to jump over them,
<v Speaker 1>you have to sidestep them, and you have like eight
<v Speaker 1>I believe it's five or six lanes to hop and
<v Speaker 1>bop around to. And this game makes me feel very
<v Speaker 1>uneasy despite it having like a very simplistic look to it.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if it's the writing or it's the music,
<v Speaker 1>but I'm like strangely intrigued. The look of it somewhat
<v Speaker 1>akin to animal well, like the animals in the background
<v Speaker 1>like very single pixel or like just a couple of
<v Speaker 1>pixel of pixels of animation and colors. But it makes
<v Speaker 1>me feel some type of way where and like the
<v Speaker 1>rhythm game aspect of it isn't quite hitting how I'm
<v Speaker 1>expecting it to, and maybe that's where I start feeling
<v Speaker 1>off kilter with it. Like, for instance, one of the
<v Speaker 1>first things they introduce you to is jumping over the notes,
<v Speaker 1>and that doesn't quite hit in the way that I'm
<v Speaker 1>expecting it to hit. And I don't know if that's
<v Speaker 1>just maybe my timing. I've lost my ability to time
<v Speaker 1>music because I'm hanging out with y'all too much, or
<v Speaker 1>because as a joke, here's five podcast points amongst you,
<v Speaker 1>I'm trying to.
<v Speaker 2>Bring back points to a pas. Okay, Mike, you get twelve. Okay, yes,
<v Speaker 2>thank you, Okay, there we go. See see.
<v Speaker 1>But it is like the absorbing factor that is and
<v Speaker 1>how it controls kind of feels a little bit awkward.
<v Speaker 1>I am intrigued by the weird story because the game
<v Speaker 1>starts with what feels like a personality test and then
<v Speaker 1>they d the color of your aura or your energy,
<v Speaker 1>and mine.
<v Speaker 9>Was not.
<v Speaker 1>It was blue, and then I'm like, oh man, I'm
<v Speaker 1>fucking blue.
<v Speaker 2>But anyway, it's.
<v Speaker 4>Trying to be undertail rhythm.
<v Speaker 1>I think that is what it's going for. As someone
<v Speaker 1>that has never played Undertail. Still it feels like that
<v Speaker 1>that's what it's going for because of the like even
<v Speaker 1>like the text animations, and like the interactions you will
<v Speaker 1>have with other characters.
<v Speaker 4>The enemies are like even like framed on the screen.
<v Speaker 7>I'm like looking at a video now, and that was
<v Speaker 7>immediately what I was thinking, like, Oh, it's kind of
<v Speaker 7>undertail y.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah, Undertail.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>One day I'll circle back to Undertail, folks. We'll get
<v Speaker 1>there good. But there's something about Everhood Too that just
<v Speaker 1>intrigues me because it feels like this could have just
<v Speaker 1>been a weird rhythm game, but there is also like
<v Speaker 1>an odd story that it feels like you were just
<v Speaker 1>like a kid thrown into like I don't know, like
<v Speaker 1>a grungy New York almost, but there's also like a
<v Speaker 1>forest behind you. It's really weird. I kind of want
<v Speaker 1>to stick with it because I kind of wrote off
<v Speaker 1>the original Everhood because I thought it was just a
<v Speaker 1>weird rhythm game only for folks. Like after the fact,
<v Speaker 1>sharing and saying like oh no, you got to dig in.
<v Speaker 1>It digs its hooks into you. So Everhood Too just
<v Speaker 1>came out yesterday, folks. We're gonna take a quick bricky break,
<v Speaker 1>and we may be back up, and then we'll go
<v Speaker 1>back down because of some jazz and shenanigans. We will.
<v Speaker 1>We still got the news coming up, as well as
<v Speaker 1>some talk over splictionon, which seems to be reviewing very well.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see right after this quick break break and we're
<v Speaker 1>back with video games, just like nothing ever happened. Split
<v Speaker 1>Fiction has now hit the charts, folks. Yes, Mike Minatti,
<v Speaker 1>Dan Reikert, and myself have been playing it. I checked
<v Speaker 1>this out a couple of weeks ago with Nicky Grayson,
<v Speaker 1>and I enjoyed my time. Then what do y'all think?
<v Speaker 2>I think it is a tremendous game. What is that
<v Speaker 2>looper fun?
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, it's like it takes two was very good, obviously,
<v Speaker 5>like one game of the year. I think I think
<v Speaker 5>the main complaint was it was just a little too long,
<v Speaker 5>kind of where out it's welcome. But to me, the
<v Speaker 5>big differentiating thing is, like, I don't know, I think
<v Speaker 5>it's just it looks a lot better. Not just I'm
<v Speaker 5>not talking graphically necessarily, although it does there too, It's
<v Speaker 5>just I don't know. I didn't like the way the
<v Speaker 5>characters look that much, and it takes two, and everything
<v Speaker 5>kind of just happened to be in that same like
<v Speaker 5>the tone of just kind of the family drama thing
<v Speaker 5>and it's all kind of set in the house. It
<v Speaker 5>was a little bit limiting, whereas the whole idea of
<v Speaker 5>this being these two authors once fantasy one sci fi
<v Speaker 5>and you're just playing through all of their ideas means
<v Speaker 5>you're constantly bouncing back and forth between like Okay, here's
<v Speaker 5>like Cyberninja stuff, here's Tron stuff, but then here's like
<v Speaker 5>you know, fantasy village and orcs and stuff, with all
<v Speaker 5>these side stories that are just way out of left field,
<v Speaker 5>just like oh, we're pigs on a farm type stuff
<v Speaker 5>like that.
<v Speaker 2>That's that was so great.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, there's crazy variety and like even like the tone,
<v Speaker 5>like Mike speaking of the pig thing. There's some like
<v Speaker 5>weirdly dark jokes in this that are not like I
<v Speaker 5>don't know, like everyone brings up the elephant thing, which
<v Speaker 5>understandably it was a weird scene and it takes too.
<v Speaker 5>I feel like the dark jokes kind of worked better
<v Speaker 5>in this, uh sure.
<v Speaker 7>Because it kind of fits in with the more you know,
<v Speaker 7>like I didn't I didn't mind the essex of it
<v Speaker 7>takes two, but the maybe that tone with the the
<v Speaker 7>whole divorce angle and that like an.
<v Speaker 4>Objective to make a child cry, like maybe that's not
<v Speaker 4>great or whatever.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, well well maybe right, But yeah, there's still some
<v Speaker 7>silliness here, Like there's one involving.
<v Speaker 2>Hot dogs that's very funny.
<v Speaker 7>Yes, right, and it gets kind of weird, uh, And
<v Speaker 7>I enjoyed the aspect a lot, but yeah, you know,
<v Speaker 7>it is mechanically in a lot of ways, just it
<v Speaker 7>takes two two with different care.
<v Speaker 2>There's a bit different stepp.
<v Speaker 7>I think it's a bit more kind of leaning a
<v Speaker 7>little bit more towards action platforming. There's still a good
<v Speaker 7>amount of puzzle platforming here for sure, and it's very
<v Speaker 7>set piece focus. There was a lot of set pieces
<v Speaker 7>and it takes too but this one really goes hard
<v Speaker 7>on that stuff and it's fantastic. And just like with
<v Speaker 7>that game, what shocks me here is just how good
<v Speaker 7>the base kind of movement feels. Yes, it's like you're like,
<v Speaker 7>they made like this these systems that themselves would just
<v Speaker 7>work fantastic in a three D platformer and used it
<v Speaker 7>exclusively for this really like not niche, but it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 7>I can't believe this is the game.
<v Speaker 2>This like old school style co.
<v Speaker 7>Op couch game, more online, but I played with my
<v Speaker 7>brother on the couch and playing a game like that again,
<v Speaker 7>it just feels wonderful.
<v Speaker 2>It's super neat fan.
<v Speaker 7>I'm curious, were you playing as Mio the sci fi
<v Speaker 7>writer or as Elena Fish and Chips the fantasy writer.
<v Speaker 5>I am the sci fi writer, Okay, I was a
<v Speaker 5>fantasy She was on the left side of the screen,
<v Speaker 5>so I just want.
<v Speaker 2>Sitting on the right side of the cups and it
<v Speaker 2>was like, I'll b B. I was like, wait, nope,
<v Speaker 2>I'm sitting over here now. Yeah, Nikki and I had
<v Speaker 2>the same decision making.
<v Speaker 1>It is.
<v Speaker 5>It is just so smart with the way it does
<v Speaker 5>all the co op stuff. It's just so seamless, Like
<v Speaker 5>every time it's like, okay, usually split screen, but then
<v Speaker 5>you go to open a door and it just kind
<v Speaker 5>of like pans in and you know it's just one screen.
<v Speaker 5>And then there's whole gameplay segments too where you're both
<v Speaker 5>on the same screen going down a slide or something.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. There's even like little subtle.
<v Speaker 5>Things that I didn't notice right away that like if
<v Speaker 5>one partner dies and you have to kind of do
<v Speaker 5>this mini game where you're jamin on triangle to fill
<v Speaker 5>in the circle. Just very subtly, the screen area of
<v Speaker 5>like the dying person just becomes kind of small.
<v Speaker 1>It just kind of scoots to the.
<v Speaker 5>Side, so the living character and the boss fight kind
<v Speaker 5>of has some more screen real estate to work with,
<v Speaker 5>and like doesn't make a big deal out of it,
<v Speaker 5>very subtle smart decisions, Like the game really moves at
<v Speaker 5>a at a certain clip where you're just you always
<v Speaker 5>feel this like kinetic energy just like pulling you forward.
<v Speaker 5>And there's no collectibles, and I was thinking about that that, like, man,
<v Speaker 5>if they did, if there's even just like a couple
<v Speaker 5>things a level to find, that would mean one at
<v Speaker 5>least one person would.
<v Speaker 2>Probably be like kind of like scouring every area.
<v Speaker 5>It's slow things like I want see I hurry back,
<v Speaker 5>hurry back, I want to see if there's something here.
<v Speaker 5>But because there's not, and you learn that pretty quickly,
<v Speaker 5>whether you realize it or not, you're always just moving
<v Speaker 5>forward and it's just fun, fun, fun, just like shuttling
<v Speaker 5>you from thing to thing. It's like a huge, genuinely
<v Speaker 5>difficult boss fight to some chase sequence and all of
<v Speaker 5>a sudden, your pigs on a farm, or you're like exploring.
<v Speaker 1>This like water park.
<v Speaker 5>So the pacing is incredible between just like this is
<v Speaker 5>a tense fucking fight to like okay, kind of open area,
<v Speaker 5>you got to find a couple of apples, you know
<v Speaker 5>that type of thing.
<v Speaker 4>It's great.
<v Speaker 1>I think it also just communicates to the player very
<v Speaker 1>quickly without any like overt instructions of like all right,
<v Speaker 1>you move this way, you move that way, go right.
<v Speaker 7>You don't have any screen tool tips, it's just obvious
<v Speaker 7>like yeah, like one character's got a laser sword that
<v Speaker 7>can kind of you know, it can tellport you to
<v Speaker 7>walls because you see it happen in the cut scene
<v Speaker 7>very briefly. The other character's a gravity whip, like yeah,
<v Speaker 7>it just makes sense.
<v Speaker 5>And all of a sudden, Yeah, you're going through like
<v Speaker 5>a it's like a Attack of the Clone style speeding
<v Speaker 5>through a city, like I'm flying a space car and
<v Speaker 5>the other person like, oh, they're get a rocket launcher.
<v Speaker 5>I guess I'm shooting these evil cars behind us, Like yeah.
<v Speaker 1>The great thing also is that each individual player has
<v Speaker 1>like a different experience, not just for the gameplay itself,
<v Speaker 1>but also when it comes to like little action set
<v Speaker 1>pieces where like, for instance, one of the first early
<v Speaker 1>ones is you as I think Mio will like dive
<v Speaker 1>through the helicopter and throw the pilot out versus Angela
<v Speaker 1>fish and chips. I forget her name, what's her actual name?
<v Speaker 5>Instead of Lane, really, Joseph Ferris's other daughter is named
<v Speaker 5>because the guy who never really the most put himself
<v Speaker 5>into his game, guy ever josepheris which, by the way,
<v Speaker 5>the fuck the Oscars thing is also in this game.
<v Speaker 4>Wait, so he's done that twice?
<v Speaker 1>Now, yep, it's in. It takes two.
<v Speaker 5>If you look up and I'm coming with a satellite,
<v Speaker 5>you hear the fuck the Oscar speech. And here there's
<v Speaker 5>a radio. If you go up and you tune it,
<v Speaker 5>you hear him saying fuck the Oscars.
<v Speaker 4>Cool, Yeah, I got it. At this point, I just
<v Speaker 4>really respect that.
<v Speaker 2>Can you believe somebody would be such a mark for themselves?
<v Speaker 5>Like, oh, by the way, I watched the hands and
<v Speaker 5>at mid Max did a rapid fire interview with him.
<v Speaker 2>It's very incredible. It's very very good.
<v Speaker 1>But but going back to the individual experience part, as
<v Speaker 1>you were playing the game together, like Nicky and I
<v Speaker 1>have to replay that segment, and I was watching Nicki's screen,
<v Speaker 1>and Nicki, instead of like because their character is doing
<v Speaker 1>something different, they wound up on like the gunner position
<v Speaker 1>and like just bopped that dude in the head and
<v Speaker 1>threw them off the helicopter. It was just so cool that,
<v Speaker 1>like there's that small, small attention to detail for like
<v Speaker 1>the individual experiences. I don't know if y'all got to this.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think it's spoilers, but when you are on
<v Speaker 1>a motorcycle chase or escape sequence, yes, uh, one player,
<v Speaker 1>you are navigating through the obstacles, you were driving the motorcycle.
<v Speaker 1>The other person is sitting behind you and they're tasked
<v Speaker 1>with unlocking a phone.
<v Speaker 7>So yeah, this was the point where me and my
<v Speaker 7>brother were just cracking up because I was unlocking the
<v Speaker 7>fhill First, it's like you gotta swimpe and you have
<v Speaker 7>to like hold it to your face that's the face
<v Speaker 7>gain and you.
<v Speaker 2>Have to play like the like I got how many
<v Speaker 2>click the squares that have a box Like then it's
<v Speaker 2>like right in the this word and you like right
<v Speaker 2>in bk E. Then it auto corrects it to bake
<v Speaker 2>even though.
<v Speaker 4>You told And then.
<v Speaker 5>I was the motorcycle part, and it is a really
<v Speaker 5>high speed like jumps and stuffing. You can't be looking
<v Speaker 5>at the other screen. It's like I'll be trying to
<v Speaker 5>like what the fuck is going on over there?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah?
<v Speaker 7>God, yeah, just you know, I don't want to give
<v Speaker 7>away too much. But there's like one part where like
<v Speaker 7>the fancy rider kind.
<v Speaker 2>Of becomes the level instead and it's just moving all
<v Speaker 2>the platforms.
<v Speaker 7>Oh yeah, and the other person's jumping. It's just constantly
<v Speaker 7>changing the pace within those. But they're, like Dan said,
<v Speaker 7>the side missions, which are these portals you find for
<v Speaker 7>you'll be in the area of the game where you
<v Speaker 7>have like the one character with the sword and one
<v Speaker 7>character of the gravity whip for a bit, but that
<v Speaker 7>is where you'll find these size stords where you go
<v Speaker 7>into this maybe like fifty minute excursion where you are
<v Speaker 7>too pig suddenly, or you are kind of like on
<v Speaker 7>hag gliders trying to do a train heist or something
<v Speaker 7>like that.
<v Speaker 2>That day, I said that the pacing is just immaculate.
<v Speaker 5>And like it's even though it's not like, oh I
<v Speaker 5>gotta go in here and get collectible, is your level
<v Speaker 5>up or anything. Every time I've seen a side mission
<v Speaker 5>orb or whatever. It's just like, well, yeah, we're gonna
<v Speaker 5>do that, because like that could be anything that's gonna
<v Speaker 5>be fun.
<v Speaker 7>And I always said, like, yeah, I think the writing
<v Speaker 7>and characters here are better than it takes two.
<v Speaker 2>It's sometimes still a little bit corny for me, Like, yeah.
<v Speaker 7>These two characters are very different, like the one sci
<v Speaker 7>fi fantasy and the one really likes the big city
<v Speaker 7>and things that the country would be boring, and the
<v Speaker 7>cuttry girl thinks that the city is just too darn
<v Speaker 7>lau right.
<v Speaker 5>I love that it doesn't get bogged down at all
<v Speaker 5>and over explaining the story because like the whole concept
<v Speaker 5>like oh we're publisher, we're gonna suck the ideas out
<v Speaker 5>of your brain and stuff.
<v Speaker 2>They explained this all in like a couple of minutes,
<v Speaker 2>and then you're having fun.
<v Speaker 4>You know.
<v Speaker 5>They could just be like, well, here's how this machine
<v Speaker 5>does this, or here's how you escape. They get in
<v Speaker 5>there and they're like, oh shit, we're in our stories.
<v Speaker 5>Guess we gotta find glitches to get out. Great, that's
<v Speaker 5>all I need to know. Do you think it's do
<v Speaker 5>you think it's symbolic of anything?
<v Speaker 1>A I in corporate agreed. Yes it Dan, you just
<v Speaker 1>got one hundred podcast.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, so proud.
<v Speaker 1>It's pretty clear.
<v Speaker 4>I'm genuine.
<v Speaker 1>The thing I'm genuinely shocked by is that this feels
<v Speaker 1>like it's Joseph Farres's bag right to do this style
<v Speaker 1>of game, and that uh, someone had approached him like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>you got an idea for a game, and he's like, yo,
<v Speaker 1>I got twenty and you know, coming up with this
<v Speaker 1>device to be able to dip into all these different
<v Speaker 1>ideas I think is very fantastic. Even if it is
<v Speaker 1>a very small sequence where you're just a hot dog
<v Speaker 1>and I, what are the physics on my hot dog jump?
<v Speaker 2>It's just so much fun to play through it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm just curious, as do you think there is like
<v Speaker 1>you know, there's a Sony or a Microsoft out there
<v Speaker 1>somewhere saying like we should just do that, we should
<v Speaker 1>ape that idea.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, because like at this point, I don't
<v Speaker 2>think anyone can execute No, I've got it. It's not Sony,
<v Speaker 2>it's not Microsoft. It's from Software.
<v Speaker 5>It's from Soft and they're making cookies and cream too.
<v Speaker 2>Surprise is going to have Fortnite elements in it.
<v Speaker 4>I think I'm just gonna say I think that the
<v Speaker 4>studio is just in the right space. I talked to
<v Speaker 4>this on a game this morning is a few weeks back.
<v Speaker 4>That it's like, if the studio was a bigger studio,
<v Speaker 4>like actually worked at for a publishing company, they probably
<v Speaker 4>wouldn't be able to justify this for opportunity costs. And
<v Speaker 4>if they were small indie studio on their own completely
<v Speaker 4>it probably be too much for them. But because they're
<v Speaker 4>a bigger indie studio that gets published by e A
<v Speaker 4>and has had a massive success from EA and that
<v Speaker 4>so they can continue to increase their budget, I think
<v Speaker 4>they're just in this sweet spot that no one else
<v Speaker 4>in the entire industry is really in, where these kinds
<v Speaker 4>of games actually make sense for them. So I really
<v Speaker 4>do think it'll just be them making this stuff, and
<v Speaker 4>you know, some mind other indie games will probably try
<v Speaker 4>to try to copy this year pretty soon. Sure it'll
<v Speaker 4>be a bit crowded, I think at that point. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I know, like like snipper Clips right or pe are
<v Speaker 1>like very small scale down examples, But I kind of
<v Speaker 1>want to see I don't know, I guess I would
<v Speaker 1>like an uncharted game to kind of be like this yeah.
<v Speaker 5>I mean they did the like lost Legacy type thing
<v Speaker 5>where it's like, well, it's about kind of two characters.
<v Speaker 4>What was that?
<v Speaker 1>Wait, that wasn't go up?
<v Speaker 3>Was it?
<v Speaker 2>It wasn't It was just a characters.
<v Speaker 7>What was co Op? Was there's that Wolfenstein to co Ops?
<v Speaker 7>Is that new Blood tried that try?
<v Speaker 4>That was it was?
<v Speaker 2>I remember loving that.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, people were kind of cool.
<v Speaker 2>Even though it sounds like a neat idea maybe we
<v Speaker 2>should it sounded good. That is why I was disappointed.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Blood, young Blood young Blood. I played the Switch
<v Speaker 1>version and I don't recommend that.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>No, No, that was one of those games when it
<v Speaker 2>was was it that or just uh uh say two
<v Speaker 2>in general where they were really talking up the uh
<v Speaker 2>the Stadia aspect of it. Really I'm born with Stadia
<v Speaker 2>at first.
<v Speaker 1>Oh gosh, Yeah, I just want to play more split fiction.
<v Speaker 1>It's reviewing incredibly well. It'd be you would know.
<v Speaker 2>That, mister, I have it in my fantasy credit check too.
<v Speaker 2>It would be a boon for anyone that has it
<v Speaker 2>on their fantasy whatever. You have three, four, five more
<v Speaker 2>slots to fill and now you have like nineteen bucks.
<v Speaker 7>So I'm projected first I've projected first I'm the winner.
<v Speaker 5>Do we know if this has PS five pro functionality?
<v Speaker 5>I don't think so, Okay, because these that's what I
<v Speaker 5>was I was gonna ask it looks great on everything,
<v Speaker 5>because yeah, I'm playing on a pro and it's.
<v Speaker 7>Just like, holy shit, this looks so good for the
<v Speaker 7>little console game. Yeah, looks fantastic on Series X where
<v Speaker 7>I'm playing it.
<v Speaker 4>Nic how long is it? Have you guess anyone?
<v Speaker 5>Joseph Faris said, I want to say he said twelve
<v Speaker 5>to fourteen, okay, which is like, I.
<v Speaker 1>Think that's about what it takes to like, it takes two.
<v Speaker 5>I kind of lost some enthusiasm at the end, but
<v Speaker 5>I am liking this a lot more than you of
<v Speaker 5>their games before, so like I'm hoping it keeps up.
<v Speaker 5>I'm probably like four hours in, probably play a couple
<v Speaker 5>hours tonight.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, it's it's got a lot of like little
<v Speaker 1>fun neat winks and nods at like everything, whether it's
<v Speaker 1>like Joseph Faris himself or like other games, Like it's
<v Speaker 1>a very early sequence, but you dive into a bail
<v Speaker 1>of hay and then you hear like a bird. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>so I thought that was cute update.
<v Speaker 4>From the Fantasy critic Jiana Chow is once again projected
<v Speaker 4>to finish first. Yep, that's right because of this game expliction.
<v Speaker 2>Well was really loud a second ago. You know, that's
<v Speaker 2>just projected points. That's not actually all that important.
<v Speaker 1>The big dog is dead.
<v Speaker 4>You will respect me as your podcast.
<v Speaker 1>Chief, all right?
<v Speaker 2>Uh? I mean, did you just let the record show
<v Speaker 2>thank you thanking? We have our own wise man. He's
<v Speaker 2>he's working back there. He seems stressed out.
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grubb the news, this is the news or the show,
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grub.
<v Speaker 4>Let's uh, let's do the Tonyak stuff first, real quick,
<v Speaker 4>just to get that on the podcast. Tonyak's Pro Skater
<v Speaker 4>three Post four has been revealed is coming July eleventh,
<v Speaker 4>although you can get it July eighth and early access
<v Speaker 4>if you pay a little extra. It is fifty dollars
<v Speaker 4>for the base version. Then I think I'm trying to
<v Speaker 4>track down the digital price digital deluxetation. I think that
<v Speaker 4>was like seventy or eighty bucks something like that, and
<v Speaker 4>then there is a one hundred and thirty dollars version.
<v Speaker 4>The last one came with a skateboard deck. I don't
<v Speaker 4>know if this one does like what it comes with
<v Speaker 4>or anything like that. But uh, either, hey, looks really good.
<v Speaker 4>They showed up. They said there's gonna be new new
<v Speaker 4>courses actually added into there. They showed off one of them.
<v Speaker 4>It is an abandoned It's basically action park, right is that? Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah? Yeah, heavily graffiti and just like colorful and looks
<v Speaker 2>really neat.
<v Speaker 1>It seems like all water parks now because all of
<v Speaker 1>them seem abandoned.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, they the water parks are a thing. You
<v Speaker 4>just go to Disney for those. Now, Yeah, this is
<v Speaker 4>say it. Then I'm like, I shouldn't bring up Disney
<v Speaker 4>Iron Galaxies developing it. It is just building on the
<v Speaker 4>tech from the first one, which is what everyone wants
<v Speaker 4>because you kind of don't need to change anything at
<v Speaker 4>this point. Tonyoks pro Skater one plus two is perfect
<v Speaker 4>as is. This is just more of that.
<v Speaker 1>Uh.
<v Speaker 4>They in the trailer that they showed off, We as
<v Speaker 4>far as we could, we've only watched it once. Because
<v Speaker 4>we watched all we did a live react, which you'll
<v Speaker 4>be able to find on game spot jib on a
<v Speaker 4>bunch of places later. I'm sure as far as we
<v Speaker 4>could tell, we didn't see any Tonyak's pro Skater four
<v Speaker 4>levels in the trailer. I wonderful people.
<v Speaker 2>Were saying there were some.
<v Speaker 7>It's okay, harder for me to know because I'm so
<v Speaker 7>much more to ask pro Scare three coded that I'm
<v Speaker 7>just gonna reach nice straight away.
<v Speaker 4>Sure. Well, either way, I when we're expecting to have
<v Speaker 4>all the levels from both games. They you know, they
<v Speaker 4>had Ace of Spades as the soundtrack to the trailer,
<v Speaker 4>of course they did, and it's it hit all the
<v Speaker 4>right notes for me, how about y'all?
<v Speaker 2>God, absolutely, Tonks.
<v Speaker 7>Pro Scare three is my favorite game in this series,
<v Speaker 7>and just one of my favorite games ever in general.
<v Speaker 7>It's just every time it's like, oh my god, there's
<v Speaker 7>the foundry, there's airport, there's the cruise ship. I am
<v Speaker 7>you know, I play this game again every few years really,
<v Speaker 7>but I'm so so excited to get back to it
<v Speaker 7>in this new format, with this presentation and having the
<v Speaker 7>new skate parks. That is really cool.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I think Tony Hawk he was on Colbert last night, right,
<v Speaker 1>and he pretty much announced this. But it said in
<v Speaker 1>that interview, and that quote is kind of circling around
<v Speaker 1>that skating is is probably one of the most inclusive
<v Speaker 1>sports or activities. And I also feel that way with
<v Speaker 1>the Tony Hawk games. Right, most people that are into well,
<v Speaker 1>you know, the fighting games aren't their flavor. Rts is
<v Speaker 1>aren't their flavor. But I feel like we can all
<v Speaker 1>unite and play a game of graffiti together. This has
<v Speaker 1>also got to be so wild for the younger, newer
<v Speaker 1>skaters that that are gonna get featured as a part
<v Speaker 1>of this roster as well, because, like you know, if
<v Speaker 1>you have aspirations to be a pro NFL player, even
<v Speaker 1>WW right, you want to be that cover athlete or
<v Speaker 1>be in that roster with Tony Hawk. It's such a
<v Speaker 1>smaller roster of skaters, but to be amongst what is
<v Speaker 1>considered the greats like Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist.
<v Speaker 8>Bam Margera, Bam I got work in the morning, it's
<v Speaker 8>gotta be something super special to be now part of that.
<v Speaker 1>Line up, right, It's gotta be so fucking neat. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>And I can't wait to go back to that part
<v Speaker 1>in La because, as Grub said in that talkover when
<v Speaker 1>we stayed Dan, when we stayed in that hotel that
<v Speaker 1>was near that little park area, I'm like, oh, hey,
<v Speaker 1>it's Tony Hawk. Wow.
<v Speaker 4>Cool.
<v Speaker 5>But for those like I wonder if there's a lot
<v Speaker 5>of like younger gamers that don't understand like how hallowed,
<v Speaker 5>how revered.
<v Speaker 2>Tony Hawk is.
<v Speaker 5>I'm looking, I know, metacritics, you know, take it earlier, paint,
<v Speaker 5>punch a salt, whatever you want, however you take it.
<v Speaker 5>It is tied for third best game of all time.
<v Speaker 5>It's Mario Galaxy one two and Breadth of the Wild
<v Speaker 5>to have the same meta score as Tony Hawk pro
<v Speaker 5>Skater three. That is the les It's not just a
<v Speaker 5>nostalgia old man thing like this is a masterclass video game.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, well, I mean it's to me, We've said this before.
<v Speaker 4>That's my my definition of a video game. Yep, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>Tony Hawk. When you think of what video game should
<v Speaker 4>feel like or make me feel like, it is Tony
<v Speaker 4>Hawk's pro Skater three. And then you know, it's kind
<v Speaker 4>of like a little bit of radiates out there to
<v Speaker 4>two and four and things like that. But yes, definitely,
<v Speaker 4>Tonyhok's pro Skater three is the sweet spot. And I
<v Speaker 4>mean everyone played it back then. I remember it was
<v Speaker 4>like starting to work from early jobs, and I'd go,
<v Speaker 4>you know, I know, it wouldn't talk about video games
<v Speaker 4>that work because a bunch of like cool people or
<v Speaker 4>people just trying to you know, get a paycheck. Tony
<v Speaker 4>Hawk would be the one game that would come up
<v Speaker 4>that everyone was playing.
<v Speaker 1>Also that popular.
<v Speaker 2>It was also like early ish in the PS two.
<v Speaker 5>It's like a year after the PS two came out,
<v Speaker 5>and like, I know, a lot of people, you know,
<v Speaker 5>think PS two right out of the gate, had this
<v Speaker 5>amazing library. You had your techn tags, he had address
<v Speaker 5>sex Is, you had Twist Middle Black the next summer.
<v Speaker 4>Your bouncers.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, but there was a big.
<v Speaker 5>Complaint for the first year or so that it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 5>there's no big you know, PlayStation two games. And so
<v Speaker 5>this came out in like October, like a year after
<v Speaker 5>the console came out.
<v Speaker 2>This is a killer fucking.
<v Speaker 1>But like Mikey talked, Mikey talked about this during the talkover.
<v Speaker 1>But like with Tony Hawk being on everything, I didn't
<v Speaker 1>get to play Tony K pro Skater three until like
<v Speaker 1>well after it had come out because I only had
<v Speaker 1>a PS one at the time and I was still
<v Speaker 1>having a ball with that just because like it just
<v Speaker 1>translates so well to everything.
<v Speaker 5>And it influenced, Like I know everyone talks about the soundtrack,
<v Speaker 5>but it was a real thing, like you know, when
<v Speaker 5>it came out, I in the same way I talk
<v Speaker 5>about ECW and that it opened my eyes to things
<v Speaker 5>outside of like you know, oh, I only listened to
<v Speaker 5>classic rock in high school, and all of a sudden,
<v Speaker 5>it's like, oh, man, rage against the machine, motor had
<v Speaker 5>dell the fucky Homo Sapien like all this stuff, Like
<v Speaker 5>oh fuck, okay, I need to start. Like I was
<v Speaker 5>buying albums because of the Tony Hawk series.
<v Speaker 4>You know. I mean, it really was kind of the
<v Speaker 4>call of duty in a lot of ways of its time.
<v Speaker 4>I have the sales chart here for Matt Pisktel. In
<v Speaker 4>two thousand, the third and fourth best selling games were
<v Speaker 4>Tonyaks pro Skater and Tonyoks pro Skater two, only beat
<v Speaker 4>by Pokemon Games. In two thousand and one, Grand Theft
<v Speaker 4>Auto three and Madden sold them, but three and four
<v Speaker 4>were Tonyaks pro Skater two and three, and then in
<v Speaker 4>two thousand and two, to Ex pro Skater four was
<v Speaker 4>number seven. Two thousand and three, Tonyaks Underground was the
<v Speaker 4>number five best selling game. They just were perennial best
<v Speaker 4>sellers every single year, and again they were massive, just
<v Speaker 4>culturally important, and they you know, they say about say
<v Speaker 4>that it had a cultural imprint on skateboarding itself. I mean,
<v Speaker 4>Tony Hawk didn't make real money till the video game.
<v Speaker 4>It didn't really reach the mainstream, like like Tony Hawk's
<v Speaker 4>name until the video game. So it goes back, it
<v Speaker 4>goes both ways. And yeah, so when we continue to
<v Speaker 4>get more of these makes me feel like, Okay, at
<v Speaker 4>least this aspect of video games continues to be okay.
<v Speaker 4>A lot of other things have fallen away. We don't
<v Speaker 4>get the kind kinds of games I want all the
<v Speaker 4>time anymore, but at least we're getting this. I can
<v Speaker 4>like hold on to this.
<v Speaker 5>It didn't hurt too that Like it's you know, it
<v Speaker 5>reminds you of like Madden in that it wasn't just
<v Speaker 5>a like, oh I signed my name over thinking, but
<v Speaker 5>like John Madden wasn't a huge gamer, but he fucking
<v Speaker 5>cared about this game he put his name on. And
<v Speaker 5>it's very clear that Tony Hawk cares about this series too.
<v Speaker 4>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely, It's kind of wild that we're gonna get three
<v Speaker 1>plus four before skate four.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, they now said very early.
<v Speaker 4>They were a team to make the game.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, exactly, I should try Skates and I never played them.
<v Speaker 2>I bet I'm not gonna love them, But I didn't
<v Speaker 2>love it.
<v Speaker 5>It felt like more of a semi where it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 5>I want into the wackiness of Tony Hawk.
<v Speaker 2>The video gamingist of it all is what I loved,
<v Speaker 2>you know.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I.
<v Speaker 2>Want to I got to push the foreman into the
<v Speaker 2>pit or whatever. Yeah, I gotta pull this pizza box
<v Speaker 2>out of my ass. Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>I think there are and there are a lot of
<v Speaker 4>people who just like love skate for it being exactly
<v Speaker 4>what it is, because it's like, well, I wanted to
<v Speaker 4>feel like skateboarding. I totally get that. That's how I
<v Speaker 4>almost snowboarding games. Uh okay, let's wrap back around here
<v Speaker 4>to iconic game publisher Acclaim has been resurrected, and then
<v Speaker 4>there's another phrase on here. Yeah, with wrestler Jeff Jarrett
<v Speaker 4>as advisor a Claim, the US game publisher known for
<v Speaker 4>nineteen nineties hits, is making a comeback after declaring bankruptcy
<v Speaker 4>in two thousand and four. Led by CEO Alex Joseph,
<v Speaker 4>the company aims to support indie developers revitalized classic franchises
<v Speaker 4>and publish new games. An advisory board of industry leaders,
<v Speaker 4>including wrestler Jeff Jarrett, will guide a Claims future.
<v Speaker 5>He keeps saying that name, and it's friend a web pod,
<v Speaker 5>friend of the site, voicemail, dump truck.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, and Jeff Jarrett, we probably should have him back on.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, you think we caused this probably?
<v Speaker 4>Yes?
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I saw it was like the first thing I
<v Speaker 5>saw when I woke up today was that Oh no,
<v Speaker 5>I saw it was a Chris Scullion that was a
<v Speaker 5>blue skyed Oh big news for retro games today, and
<v Speaker 5>it's not Tony Hawk, And I was like, oh, what
<v Speaker 5>is this is gonna be?
<v Speaker 2>And you could have given me infinite guests.
<v Speaker 1>It would have not been out of every wrestler that
<v Speaker 1>is loosely tied with video games.
<v Speaker 4>Now.
<v Speaker 9>I don't think I would have ever said Jeff chairs
<v Speaker 9>like Kenny Omega, Sure you didn't see that woods, Yeah, okay,
<v Speaker 9>diversifies portfolio rights. I mean Jared worked with a claim
<v Speaker 9>I guess I'm like the oldest sixteen bit ones and
<v Speaker 9>then like war.
<v Speaker 1>Attitude, I think we are responsible.
<v Speaker 4>I'm gonna say that.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it was.
<v Speaker 1>It was yall, but I also if there's two things
<v Speaker 1>about this that are just like okay.
<v Speaker 5>So Phil Salvador from the Video Game History Foundation said like, oh,
<v Speaker 5>I hope people understand this is just a trademark being
<v Speaker 5>transferred or registered.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And also like what could the possible?
<v Speaker 5>Like I was looking at at the acclaim the list
<v Speaker 5>of their games, and all of the ones I remember
<v Speaker 5>were like back when I was a kid and I
<v Speaker 5>was buying movie games and NBA JAM sports games and
<v Speaker 5>stuff that like, okay, you're never going to be able
<v Speaker 5>to like re release or make well I mean you
<v Speaker 5>could make a new NBA JAM like well, no, Hea
<v Speaker 5>owns it, right, Yeah.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, they're big thing. I mean they had tur Rok
<v Speaker 7>they don't own truck anymore, right, And a lot of licenses.
<v Speaker 5>Mortal Combat, Terminator Simmons, all those games.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>To me, I think they're trying to do the recent
<v Speaker 4>like Atari Night Dive thing where they will find the
<v Speaker 4>games that they can bring back that even the ones
<v Speaker 4>that are licensed and sort of just do a nice
<v Speaker 4>sprucing up of them and re release them. Will they
<v Speaker 4>do as good of a job as Night Dive and
<v Speaker 4>even Atari has done recently? Atari has bought Night Dive,
<v Speaker 4>I think, right, probably not, But I think this is
<v Speaker 4>a popular trend right now, and I'm not against it.
<v Speaker 4>I think this is like so like, I mean, who
<v Speaker 4>knows what Jeff Jarrett and Jarff Jarrett's involvement means. But
<v Speaker 4>I think if this is a strategy right now of
<v Speaker 4>mining old content, well I'm an old man, that sounds fantastic.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm worried.
<v Speaker 7>It's just going to be more of This is going
<v Speaker 7>to be a studio that's gonna be a content farm
<v Speaker 7>for licensed.
<v Speaker 2>Games, which, to be fair, is largely what Actually that's
<v Speaker 2>a claim.
<v Speaker 4>Two?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, well, okay, I got I got two things. One,
<v Speaker 2>when I saw this news article from the from when
<v Speaker 2>I woke up, I thought the Acclaimed as in the
<v Speaker 2>wrestling stable had gone back together and that Jeff Jarrett
<v Speaker 2>had like superseded the uh Billy gunn Daddy ass Uh.
<v Speaker 2>But now I'm also looking at how Acclaim Entertainment is spelled,
<v Speaker 2>and I'm looking at the logo. Yeah, and I guess
<v Speaker 2>this whole time, I thought those were quays and nuts.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, every time I look at the logo, even though
<v Speaker 4>I knew it was spelled Acclaim with c's I would
<v Speaker 4>I would think those are case.
<v Speaker 5>I remember back in the day, like even when people
<v Speaker 5>would write into magazines and stuff, you know how like
<v Speaker 5>now occasionally see trolls, right, like Microsoft for the dollar
<v Speaker 5>sign is the s people used to be like, ah claim,
<v Speaker 5>like yeah, yeah, yeah.
<v Speaker 3>Or.
<v Speaker 4>All right, so this means we get a new Armornes
<v Speaker 4>project Swarm right, that's oh god, Mike Maharty yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, meet mister Domino's coming back. Right, yeah, I like
<v Speaker 2>extreme g Yeah they made three of those somehow, Triplex
<v Speaker 2>oh yeah right, just bring nothing back but the tasteless
<v Speaker 2>marketing that they used to do.
<v Speaker 5>Sure, yeah, I mean it's because like I do when
<v Speaker 5>I think about my childhood playing games like the sixteen
<v Speaker 5>bit era specifically, I feel like I saw the Acclaim
<v Speaker 5>logo maybe more than Konami and Capcom, like.
<v Speaker 7>The likes a rental game company, because again they would
<v Speaker 7>kind of people making the the you know, the Terminator games.
<v Speaker 4>And Bart versus.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, in the home versions of More Combat and stuff
<v Speaker 1>like they were all over the place.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah. And then Jeff Jarrett and then Jeff Jarrett
<v Speaker 2>double for him there chosen one incredible all right.
<v Speaker 4>Well, uh, we'll see what that turns into uh, they
<v Speaker 4>will have a you know, god, maybe we can move
<v Speaker 4>up that Terminator two story right now. I'm gonna do
<v Speaker 4>that now Jan as well. Oh uh did I even
<v Speaker 4>include that? Oh yeah, here they are. A new two
<v Speaker 4>D game based on Terminator two is coming in September.
<v Speaker 4>They did make a Terminator two game back in the day.
<v Speaker 4>It was a claim was involved with.
<v Speaker 2>It made a couple of bit I had the one
<v Speaker 2>that worked with the Minister for Genesis. It was like
<v Speaker 2>game yeah, yeah X they did yeah, music is the
<v Speaker 2>weapon brother.
<v Speaker 4>They worked with like l JN on that, And I
<v Speaker 4>got to say this new Terminator two game looks a
<v Speaker 4>lot like an l j N game. A new two
<v Speaker 4>D action game, Terminator two two D no Fate, based
<v Speaker 4>on Terminator two Judgment Day, is coming to multiple platforms
<v Speaker 4>on September fifth. Players will control Sarah Connor, the T
<v Speaker 4>eight hundred and John Connor across different timeline, aiming to
<v Speaker 4>stop the T one thousand and Skynet. It's being developed
<v Speaker 4>by Bitmatt Bureau. The game blends iconic scenes with original
<v Speaker 4>scenarios in multiple endings. It is described as a love
<v Speaker 4>letter to eighties and nineties arcade games, with each character
<v Speaker 4>having unique combat styles. The new release follows five previous
<v Speaker 4>Terminator two games from the early nineties, including the popular
<v Speaker 4>T two the arcade game. Yeah. I think it's taken
<v Speaker 4>a lot of inspiration, but it does remind me of
<v Speaker 4>these movie platform platform running gun shooters that you would
<v Speaker 4>get a million of based on movies for the Super
<v Speaker 4>Nintendo specifically, And I'm fine with that except for it's
<v Speaker 4>like I never loved any of those really for the
<v Speaker 4>most part, they weren't great.
<v Speaker 5>But I think they know now they can't just put
<v Speaker 5>out one of those exs like that to be a
<v Speaker 5>success now. Like I went in pretty skeptical, like, you know,
<v Speaker 5>everyone is posting to me like, oh my god, Terminator
<v Speaker 5>two game. I was like, all right, there's gonna be
<v Speaker 5>some pandury nostalgia, you know, bad game. And I watched
<v Speaker 5>it and I was like, I see this does not
<v Speaker 5>look bad at all, Like I am pretty good.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, yeah, it kind of, if anything, kind of reminds
<v Speaker 7>me a little bit of the say a CD Terminator game,
<v Speaker 7>which actually was not bad at all.
<v Speaker 4>That one.
<v Speaker 2>There's like some yeah, the run and gunning here looks
<v Speaker 2>really nice.
<v Speaker 7>There's a bit of a gosh, there's a little bit
<v Speaker 7>of a contra vibe and also a little bit.
<v Speaker 2>Of like that Alien three game on the Genesis that
<v Speaker 2>was a that wasn't bad. Yeah, just really good looking
<v Speaker 2>pixel work here. You know, there's they have the scene
<v Speaker 2>in the water trench whatever that's called in LA that
<v Speaker 2>looks fantastic. I'm oh, I'm into this. I'm excited.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. Were they raced in Greece, Yes, exactly, Yes.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, there's there's like naked Arnold Schwarzenegger beat them up sections.
<v Speaker 5>There's the like shooting the T one thousand into the lava.
<v Speaker 5>There's the frozen T one thousand.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, I think the thing that I'm like that
<v Speaker 4>works the best for me out of all this stuff though,
<v Speaker 4>is sort of the the animated attract modes where that
<v Speaker 4>you would see like on the arcade machines if you
<v Speaker 4>would walk past them of like we're gonna like animate
<v Speaker 4>the T one thousand going from liquid metal into his
<v Speaker 4>human form, and we're just gonna have it's it's just
<v Speaker 4>gonna fly two D pixel frames really fast to kind
<v Speaker 4>of like emulate that, and that that style of attract
<v Speaker 4>mode has been stuck in my brain. This entire my
<v Speaker 4>entire life now. So when I see a new game
<v Speaker 4>like Going for That, it's like, Okay, these are people
<v Speaker 4>that kind of feel the same way I do about
<v Speaker 4>that stuff.
<v Speaker 2>And when you said the different combat styles, what I'm
<v Speaker 2>seeing here maybe like John Connor's the running gun, like
<v Speaker 2>Contra Sarah Connor, maybe like betro Vingia, maybe a little
<v Speaker 2>bit more stealth action stuff. And then you know, like
<v Speaker 2>the Terminators just beat them up.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah I'm not.
<v Speaker 2>Just some shooting elements in there too, all over the place.
<v Speaker 5>I think they showed, Uh, don't they have Sarah Connor
<v Speaker 5>in the asylum, because like escaping there and just beating
<v Speaker 5>the shit out of everyone with like a broom handle
<v Speaker 5>should be fun.
<v Speaker 2>You know.
<v Speaker 1>She looks so cool doing pull ups in her cell.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, screen is very good. Yeah, the.
<v Speaker 2>Syringe and the fucking yeah it's oh man, Terminator two.
<v Speaker 4>Have we ever talked about that?
<v Speaker 1>Forties?
<v Speaker 2>This?
<v Speaker 8>No?
<v Speaker 5>Somehow what really it's the Terminator two. I don't think
<v Speaker 5>we've ever done a Terminator of filming forties.
<v Speaker 1>I think we did one because Backlar was there, because
<v Speaker 1>he never maybe we did one. Maybe we did the
<v Speaker 1>first one.
<v Speaker 4>Right, that's what it was backlar had I was like
<v Speaker 4>just thinking the right, Well.
<v Speaker 1>What better time?
<v Speaker 2>Look, I will watch Terminator two if someone asked me
<v Speaker 2>to force you, Dan, but you have to be ready
<v Speaker 2>for me to feel bad for like a random mall
<v Speaker 2>security person getting caught in the crossfire and dying. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I love that he's got the coffee.
<v Speaker 4>All right, Uh well let's see here. Let's go back
<v Speaker 4>over here to Activision taps AI for sneak peak at
<v Speaker 4>Peak at possible Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and Crash
<v Speaker 4>Bandicoot games. This story is insane. Activision apparently created AI
<v Speaker 4>generated ads four games put them on social media services
<v Speaker 4>like Instagram, being like, hey, like look at this. It's
<v Speaker 4>Guitar Hero Mobile or Call of Duty Zombie Defender or
<v Speaker 4>Crash Bandicoot Brawl. You should click on this, and then
<v Speaker 4>people would click on it and that would lead to
<v Speaker 4>a survey link that would be like, Yo, this ain't real,
<v Speaker 4>but fill out the survey to tell us if you
<v Speaker 4>would be interested in something like this. And everyone's like,
<v Speaker 4>what the hell are you talking about? Why would you
<v Speaker 4>do this? Why would you put this crappy AI art
<v Speaker 4>out of these games in the first place, And then
<v Speaker 4>what do you want people to feel when they are
<v Speaker 4>filling out the survey, but trade, Yeah, because that's all
<v Speaker 4>you've done here? What a crazy thing?
<v Speaker 2>Are just wacky, stupid, weird, unhinged behavior, you know what?
<v Speaker 1>Those going on this decision to do this probably took
<v Speaker 1>way too long. Yeah, probably had way too many heads involved.
<v Speaker 2>And enough people had to approve it to actually happen.
<v Speaker 1>And so many people were high on their own supply
<v Speaker 1>to go make this thing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah right, and there's like a lot of people who
<v Speaker 2>are like initially trying to tell them that they shouldn't
<v Speaker 2>do this, but were like shouted down. But there's some
<v Speaker 2>like dead inside for months as this was moving ahead.
<v Speaker 2>What the hell? There's gotta be other ways to find
<v Speaker 2>out if there's interest in a potential video game. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>subjective a terrible fucking idea.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, there's this. This data has got to be useless
<v Speaker 4>because like, who is gonna fill out this survey that
<v Speaker 4>is gonna be I mean you're gonna get some random people,
<v Speaker 4>I guess, but that that don't like realize it's AI
<v Speaker 4>I suppose. But anyone who does and and then realizes
<v Speaker 4>the games aren't real are just gonna come in there
<v Speaker 4>and yell at them.
<v Speaker 1>So I would be mad if I was like not
<v Speaker 1>in tune with like game news or whatever, and it's
<v Speaker 1>not like, oh new new guitar hero sure, and it's
<v Speaker 1>a fucking survey. Uh like there are there are fake
<v Speaker 1>games that lead to an actual game. Still, Uh all over, TikTok.
<v Speaker 1>There's a way better job at convincing me to do
<v Speaker 1>something and the click through rate there versus whatever the fuck?
<v Speaker 4>This was Yep, just a weird thing from a company
<v Speaker 4>that continues to be just wild, weird, stupid and Activision
<v Speaker 4>PS five's Twisted Metal game now speaking, a good idea
<v Speaker 4>is was a battle Royale with third person shooting, as
<v Speaker 4>in you would get out of the car and shoot
<v Speaker 4>like in a Battle Royale. Now you could get into
<v Speaker 4>the cars and drive them around, but to me that
<v Speaker 4>would mean like you're getting into different cars and so
<v Speaker 4>maybe you don't have that association with the driver in
<v Speaker 4>the car and like there's so strong character for each vehicle.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know, but some screenshots were put out by
<v Speaker 4>someone who worked on the game, and they kind of
<v Speaker 4>like put a little bit of a blur on them.
<v Speaker 4>You could see what was happening and it looked a lot,
<v Speaker 4>like you know Fortnite, Radical Heights, any of these Batterrayale
<v Speaker 4>games that have come out over the years.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I would love this.
<v Speaker 5>I think I would prefer if it happened, I would
<v Speaker 5>have liked it to stay in the car. Yeah, I'm
<v Speaker 5>a huge anytime it's a vehicle based series and it's like,
<v Speaker 5>oh now you can get out star Fox is you
<v Speaker 5>know Main Offender number one I think, or Drive three,
<v Speaker 5>or it's just like nope.
<v Speaker 1>This is a driving game.
<v Speaker 5>I want to be in the car. I want to
<v Speaker 5>be in the r wing Twist Metal, I don't need
<v Speaker 5>to run around. In fact, this weekend I was playing
<v Speaker 5>ahead on Extra Twisted Edition with the weird Sweet Tooth
<v Speaker 5>mode where you're running around as sweet Tooth, and it's like, hmmm,
<v Speaker 5>this is not what I want.
<v Speaker 4>This is not it.
<v Speaker 1>So the idea of just.
<v Speaker 2>Cars, like one hundred cars on an island sounds fucking
<v Speaker 2>awesome to me.
<v Speaker 4>Well, yeah, that would have been awesome.
<v Speaker 1>That's what this is.
<v Speaker 4>So close?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, like you know what a differentiate you.
<v Speaker 7>Fortnite literally has had like seasons with car combat in it,
<v Speaker 7>and I don't I didn't even really love it.
<v Speaker 2>In there, I was like, ah, I felt better when.
<v Speaker 7>I was just actually running around shooting people as opposed
<v Speaker 7>to some weird car combat stuff.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, like yeah, Twisted Metal is a battery. Oh
<v Speaker 2>that's not a terrible direction, but you would need to
<v Speaker 2>make maps based around driving, and you can really optimize
<v Speaker 2>it for that. Once it's both driving and on foot stuff,
<v Speaker 2>well then the maps have to serve both those purposes
<v Speaker 2>and that's very difficult, folks.
<v Speaker 1>Fortnite kind of did it, though, Yeah, I didn't try it.
<v Speaker 7>I didn't love the car combat seasons. Before the Mad
<v Speaker 7>Max season, there's a Mad Max. I think it was
<v Speaker 7>like supposed to be Mad Max, and like clearly the
<v Speaker 7>deal didn't happen, like that stuff was still there or
<v Speaker 7>something like.
<v Speaker 4>That, this isn't happening. This game's canceled. But like they
<v Speaker 4>kind of.
<v Speaker 2>Tried to do something, which was The Metal. It's when
<v Speaker 2>they're you know that the show is getting a second season.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, but I mean that's gonna take five years to
<v Speaker 4>make a game, so they're gonna they you know.
<v Speaker 2>They start now.
<v Speaker 5>Might not make so weird because I thought it was
<v Speaker 5>ready to be announced years ago, like because there were
<v Speaker 5>people in the media that I know that like had
<v Speaker 5>articles written and we're just waiting for the go ahead
<v Speaker 5>to publish, like like play it or saw the game.
<v Speaker 5>So it's like, oh, okay, this is an imminent SGEF
<v Speaker 5>reveal or something, and then it just got canceled.
<v Speaker 4>Yep. And I think that might have been the original version,
<v Speaker 4>because I heard a lot about that one, and then
<v Speaker 4>that got canceled and then moved over to fire Sprite
<v Speaker 4>to be this live service free to play battle Royale
<v Speaker 4>where you get out of the car again shoot and
<v Speaker 4>then now, yet this was canceled last year or the
<v Speaker 4>year before that something like that.
<v Speaker 7>So imagine if instead of making Blue Point work on
<v Speaker 7>a live service game that would get canceled, if they
<v Speaker 7>were just doing a Twisted Metal Black remake this whole
<v Speaker 7>time or something that would have nice.
<v Speaker 4>That's it might be a good idea to just shift
<v Speaker 4>them that shift them to that now after canceling their
<v Speaker 4>game all right. Sony has been sued for disproportionate Sony tax,
<v Speaker 4>abusing its market position to increase game prices. It was
<v Speaker 4>a class action lawsuit that has been filed against Sony
<v Speaker 4>in the Netherlands, alleging that the company abuses its market
<v Speaker 4>position in digital PlayStation game sales to inflate prices. Basically,
<v Speaker 4>argument is PlayStation consoles have a grip on that market
<v Speaker 4>and then you can only go through Sony to set
<v Speaker 4>your prices on their store, and so they have this
<v Speaker 4>unfair advantage and that has led to digital game prices
<v Speaker 4>being like something like forty percent more expensive than physical
<v Speaker 4>game prices when you can compare the two, and so
<v Speaker 4>the nether Ones sue them. Sony settled. Now, the real
<v Speaker 4>thing here is like this keeps happening. Sony does keep
<v Speaker 4>getting like facing regulation from these from different countries saying, hey,
<v Speaker 4>you control this walled garden that most people buy their
<v Speaker 4>video games through. What's like, like, what's going on here?
<v Speaker 4>Why are you setting these prices so much higher? And
<v Speaker 4>Sony just keeps settling, And it does feel like they
<v Speaker 4>might keep getting these speeding tickets essentially to the point
<v Speaker 4>where it could become a problem for them. And if
<v Speaker 4>they don't change, maybe these governments might get more serious
<v Speaker 4>and say, hey, we're going to introduce regulation forcing you
<v Speaker 4>to open up your store, forcing like what has happened
<v Speaker 4>with Apple and Android. That seems to be the trend,
<v Speaker 4>the direction that it's heading. This is just the latest
<v Speaker 4>example of like of that sort of feeling. But I
<v Speaker 4>do think that that continues to be the long term
<v Speaker 4>goal for a company like Microsoft, hoping, hey, we'll just
<v Speaker 4>have our own Microsoft Store on PlayStation one day, maybe
<v Speaker 4>ten fifteen years from now. But because these like these governments,
<v Speaker 4>especially in Europe, continue to crack down on this, it's
<v Speaker 4>feeling more and more likely that something like that could happen.
<v Speaker 4>Do you guys think Sony could have a response to
<v Speaker 4>this that maybe brings pricing more in line with physical
<v Speaker 4>so that they can avoid getting sued and avoid this.
<v Speaker 7>They're not gonna be able to ever help selves, right,
<v Speaker 7>They're going to push it, push it and push it,
<v Speaker 7>and yeah, like you said, they're speeding tickets along the way.
<v Speaker 2>But no, we know this all works. They can't. They
<v Speaker 2>can't make less money, right.
<v Speaker 4>With the whole part, Ezy inane.
<v Speaker 1>You give people a taste of the fun dessert, you
<v Speaker 1>don't give them the whole thing.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, and it does feel like they probably could if
<v Speaker 4>they were willing to, but you're right, they need that
<v Speaker 4>growth and all that is sort of their their number
<v Speaker 4>one focus. We'll see how this, you know, progresses down
<v Speaker 4>the line. It's also the possibility that governments get distracted
<v Speaker 4>or find some other target and Sony can skate by.
<v Speaker 4>I think that's Sony's hope. We'll see I could.
<v Speaker 2>Possibly distract them in the world right now instead of this,
<v Speaker 2>oh nothing, it's all chill. Okay, that's so chill.
<v Speaker 4>Pokemon Legends Z a trailer dropped. This happened after the
<v Speaker 4>podcast last week. It showed off new mechanics. We still
<v Speaker 4>don't have a release date. Basically, it is the sequel
<v Speaker 4>to the last one, but it takes place in the
<v Speaker 4>city and so there is fewer like wide open areas.
<v Speaker 4>That's the big change. Other than that it is a
<v Speaker 4>Pokemon Legends game where you're capturing Pokemon in a live setting.
<v Speaker 4>And then the other major change I suppose is that
<v Speaker 4>the combat is more real time and that you are
<v Speaker 4>issuing commands. And yeah, I mean, I guess I don't
<v Speaker 4>know how to describe it. As Pokemon fan number one, jan,
<v Speaker 4>how would you sort of explain it?
<v Speaker 1>Someone had pointed this out in the chat as I
<v Speaker 1>came to the same conclusion. But it kind of does
<v Speaker 1>feel like Xeno Blade Chronicles three where you're positioning and
<v Speaker 1>there are cool downs so you can like do a
<v Speaker 1>loose dodge and kind of command your Pokemon like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>screy on over here to get out of the way.
<v Speaker 1>And yeah, positioning very important here, which normally isn't a
<v Speaker 1>thing to worry about with the baseline or the mainline
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon games, because you're just kind of taking turns hating
<v Speaker 1>each other. Here you got to get your little dudes
<v Speaker 1>out of the way. And I cannot wait, Uh, it does.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what the Internet is saying. I think
<v Speaker 1>it looks okay. I don't think it looks like Garbo
<v Speaker 1>like everyone is saying, but it looks.
<v Speaker 2>I think if I didn't, if I lived in a
<v Speaker 2>world without Scarlet and Violet, i'd be like, oh, it
<v Speaker 2>looks looks pretty bad. And it looks just enough better
<v Speaker 2>than Scarlet Violet. I'm like, I'll take it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think that's what it is.
<v Speaker 2>I'll take it.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah. Either the starters here at Chikorita, Tepeig and Tota
<v Speaker 4>dial uh. And you can pick between characters Urbane and
<v Speaker 4>Towny and yes that's really their names.
<v Speaker 2>I think Urbane and Tommy those are your rivals.
<v Speaker 4>Those are the rivals. Okay, yeah, I mean players, why
<v Speaker 4>have a new companion. You're right, Slash Rival.
<v Speaker 1>But the wild thing is we're back with Mega evolutions.
<v Speaker 1>I hope we get more megas. I mean we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>get Mega Meaganium probably right Mega.
<v Speaker 7>Mike Manati is not a fan of the I'm anti megas,
<v Speaker 7>I'm anti ze attacks, I'm anti wearing a crystal hat.
<v Speaker 7>I don't go for any of these these bullshit gimmicks there. Yeah,
<v Speaker 7>the anti gimmick, I'm just saying.
<v Speaker 4>It was the Nemesis system. Guys. Wonder Woman was canceled
<v Speaker 4>and the studio that was working on it was closed down.
<v Speaker 4>That was Monolith Productions, long storied history for that studio.
<v Speaker 4>This also happened after the show last week, and the
<v Speaker 4>one of the key culprits of the reason that the
<v Speaker 4>development went so bad for that game because it got
<v Speaker 4>rebooted last year after being announced in twenty twenty one,
<v Speaker 4>is that they couldn't really figure out how to make
<v Speaker 4>the Nemesis system work. They were going to try a
<v Speaker 4>different variation on it where it was going to be
<v Speaker 4>kind of a friend system where Wonder Woman would gain
<v Speaker 4>allies as she played the game, and the allies would
<v Speaker 4>show up and would evolve based on how you interacted
<v Speaker 4>with them. That also didn't work. So last year they
<v Speaker 4>rebooted it and we're like, we're just going to make
<v Speaker 4>basically a version of this game that is like God
<v Speaker 4>of War twenty eighteen. But by then it was too
<v Speaker 4>like it had they spent too much time and too
<v Speaker 4>much money, and Warner Brothers had lost their their taste
<v Speaker 4>for this, and so they just closed the whole thing down. Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>it's a real shame that this studio just kind of
<v Speaker 4>got caught in that rut of Warner Brothers being like, well,
<v Speaker 4>we got to make something more with Nemesis, let's make
<v Speaker 4>that make sense, and now they are paying the price
<v Speaker 4>by having that entire studio wiped from the face of
<v Speaker 4>the earth.
<v Speaker 1>I think they've made video game players their Nemesis. Actually,
<v Speaker 1>I think general consumers of media Warner Brothers has just
<v Speaker 1>adopted the Nemesis system.
<v Speaker 4>Still, come on, everyone loves that they make movies don't
<v Speaker 4>release them.
<v Speaker 7>Do you think the least would have been longer here
<v Speaker 7>if like Suicide Squas, wasn't the jass of money lost
<v Speaker 7>for them?
<v Speaker 4>Yes? Yeah, I think so. I think it's uh. They
<v Speaker 4>probably were looking at it and thinking this would be
<v Speaker 4>a repeat because it's a very similar setup, right where
<v Speaker 4>the Suicide Squad movie came out made a lot of money,
<v Speaker 4>so they were green lighted a game based on that.
<v Speaker 4>The next movie came out didn't make as much money
<v Speaker 4>because everyone hated the first one actually in the long run,
<v Speaker 4>so all of the excitement ran out of the room.
<v Speaker 4>Wonder Woman. The first movie did really well, made a
<v Speaker 4>lot of money. Second one came out. Actually that that
<v Speaker 4>one failed because a second movie was pretty garbage. I
<v Speaker 4>hate that movie, and so they are probably expecting no
<v Speaker 4>more excitement for that. So this game doesn't make sense anymore.
<v Speaker 4>It's almost certainly kind of the way they viewed it
<v Speaker 4>all right, last couple of stories. Just four months after
<v Speaker 4>its release, by Where's Dragon Age, the Vailguard has joined
<v Speaker 4>PlayStation Plus. I think it's up to claim now. And
<v Speaker 4>this is not like, oh, it's you know, temporarily in
<v Speaker 4>the back library. This is part of like their essential
<v Speaker 4>where if you have like the base version of PlayStation Plus,
<v Speaker 4>you can add this to your collection for as long
<v Speaker 4>as you have PlayStation Plus. Yeah, this game, they're clearly
<v Speaker 4>just like, man, we got to make as much money
<v Speaker 4>back from this thing as possible. It just did not
<v Speaker 4>find an audience. It's just that's it's that simple.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, that's that's really early to be on that. Like
<v Speaker 7>you said, it's just well, we'll get a check from
<v Speaker 7>Sony if we do this, at least, and.
<v Speaker 4>I'm sure Sony wrote a probably a pretty hefty check
<v Speaker 4>for it.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, it's wild, and I'm wonder it's gonna be like
<v Speaker 7>a longer conserquints of beat people being a lot maybe
<v Speaker 7>a bit more hesitant about bringing back to my dormant franchises.
<v Speaker 4>It feels like a mirror's edge. What was the second
<v Speaker 4>one called?
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, I feel right, but you know, we still have
<v Speaker 7>things like Annie Musha and the Almataratsu's game that I'm
<v Speaker 7>suddenly plaking Cammy the other Oh right, Like no, those
<v Speaker 7>things are coming back. You know, it's coming back, So
<v Speaker 7>maybe we'll see some other successes here. There's you know,
<v Speaker 7>everybody's like, what's the one reason why Dragon Age the
<v Speaker 7>Veil Guard didn't work?
<v Speaker 4>And there are so many Yeah, there's no one reason.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, there's no one.
<v Speaker 7>Reason, but there are a lot of them. Uh, and
<v Speaker 7>I mean it it was too well, you're right, it's
<v Speaker 7>like that's definitely not a reason. But Chuds being very
<v Speaker 7>upset and making that kind of the biggest talking point
<v Speaker 7>about the game online. Probably part of the reason. That's
<v Speaker 7>almost like, yeah, legitimate complace people had about the story
<v Speaker 7>and the gameplay, and just that long span of time
<v Speaker 7>between two things, that awful first trailer that just was
<v Speaker 7>not the tone anybody wanted from this boy. I'm glad
<v Speaker 7>I'm not working on the new Mass Effect because that
<v Speaker 7>is probably very stressful.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, especially with like the reduced team that they got
<v Speaker 4>working on that. Now, Oh that's true. Yep, Okay, well,
<v Speaker 4>we'll see. They're not gonna make any more Dragonage games,
<v Speaker 4>at least not anytime soon, probably never, and then yeah,
<v Speaker 4>Mass Effect they are still going to try to make.
<v Speaker 4>We'll see how that goes down. Last story I have
<v Speaker 4>here Hideki Kamia wants to revive canceled Xbox exclusive scale
<v Speaker 4>Bound or just basically just like there's a video I
<v Speaker 4>guess of him looking at this game with his staff
<v Speaker 4>and like reminiscing about it, and he was like explaining
<v Speaker 4>to him like, you know, look at he's got headphones,
<v Speaker 4>but it's a fantasy world. It's like an ee kai
<v Speaker 4>and everyone's like, oh cool, dude, Like we didn't realize that.
<v Speaker 4>But then I guess he ends up by just saying, hey, Phil,
<v Speaker 4>we should go back and do this. Do you the
<v Speaker 4>three of you think that they will make and release
<v Speaker 4>the video game scale b No for the Xbox platform?
<v Speaker 1>No? Absolutely not, no way.
<v Speaker 7>I mean I think he's not at Platinum Games anymore,
<v Speaker 7>so he's at Capcom again.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, but like, don't you think Microsoft probably owned uh,
<v Speaker 4>scale But even.
<v Speaker 7>Beyond that, like, I don't think I don't see Capcom
<v Speaker 7>like I do in some partnerships with Microsoft. I don't
<v Speaker 7>think they're going to be like, let's work really hard
<v Speaker 7>on this Microsoft based project.
<v Speaker 2>Again. Sure, I don't know.
<v Speaker 7>I get people being upset about scale Bound, right, but
<v Speaker 7>we never really knew that much about that game.
<v Speaker 2>We never really knew if it was going to be good.
<v Speaker 7>If you want to make a game about a person
<v Speaker 7>riding a dragon and fighting other dragons, yeah yeah, sure,
<v Speaker 7>yeah exactly, I don't think it needs to be scale
<v Speaker 7>Bound anymore, right, Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Fair, yeah you do.
<v Speaker 1>Most people know that Spire of the Dragon exists, and
<v Speaker 1>you can just be the dragon.
<v Speaker 4>That's true.
<v Speaker 2>Cut out the middleman.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, yeah, apparently Clover's is not part of Capcom by
<v Speaker 7>the way, so sorry about that.
<v Speaker 2>I miss oh.
<v Speaker 4>I didn't realize that either. I thought they were just independent. Wow. Okay, well,
<v Speaker 4>so maybe they're gonna make this. So in that case,
<v Speaker 4>I'm gonna say, yes, this will happen. It'll be out
<v Speaker 4>next year. It'll be a game of the year.
<v Speaker 8>You know.
<v Speaker 1>I'm more wondering, like, who wants this game in twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty five. But I pulled up one of the trailers
<v Speaker 1>and I'm looking at the newest comments, and there are
<v Speaker 1>still people actively upset about this game being canceled. And
<v Speaker 1>I guess that's why. I don't understand that. But I
<v Speaker 1>guess that's why Hollywood felt compelled to make How to
<v Speaker 1>Train Your Dragon live action movie that is just the
<v Speaker 1>same movie.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, do people really like dragons?
<v Speaker 7>How To Train Your Dragon one is a good movie.
<v Speaker 7>I think the remike looks really stupid. They want to
<v Speaker 7>keep that franchise a bit rovant. They did just build
<v Speaker 7>a giant theme park section off of it in that
<v Speaker 7>new one in Orlando, So I don't know.
<v Speaker 4>My kids just got into How To Train Your Dragon
<v Speaker 4>big time, like the last.
<v Speaker 1>Week, so good music. I kind of want to get
<v Speaker 1>the gimmicks and dib a skateboard. I just want to
<v Speaker 1>see what happens.
<v Speaker 4>Sure we did would die.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'll get one for Mike Manatti as well.
<v Speaker 4>Oh great, Mike will become the greatest skater a lot.
<v Speaker 4>That'd be awesome.
<v Speaker 2>You were talking about how inclusive it is here economics.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I could. I could see Mike Manatti being the
<v Speaker 1>most supportive skater at the park and he's.
<v Speaker 2>Like banging his board of like, you did it, buddy,
<v Speaker 2>you did it.
<v Speaker 4>You dropped in.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but I would hurt myself horribly very early on
<v Speaker 2>and not be there very much.
<v Speaker 1>But everyone would be supportive and checking on you.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, better, I'll be a lot of pain, all right.
<v Speaker 4>So I one more story here. This one comes from Nikki.
<v Speaker 4>What it mean that Yoship not on the square Inox
<v Speaker 4>board anymore? This one I mess. Let's see here. Final
<v Speaker 4>Fantasy fourteen's Yoship quietly removed from Square Innox's board after
<v Speaker 4>years of wanting out. It's much more fun to just
<v Speaker 4>make games, that they said, So that's probably that's probably
<v Speaker 4>what it is is that Yoship is very busy doing
<v Speaker 4>other stuff that they he wants to be doing.
<v Speaker 7>I mean, he's already he was a chiet a charge
<v Speaker 7>of Offanasy fourteen. That alone should be a full time job, right,
<v Speaker 7>and then he just also made Final Fantasy sixteen. Right,
<v Speaker 7>that's wild and you're on the board of the whole company. Yeah,
<v Speaker 7>that was clearly too much. Like they're very appreciative and
<v Speaker 7>impressed with how he saved fourteen, as they should be,
<v Speaker 7>but there's still only so much you can throw on
<v Speaker 7>that man's plate, and honestly, like, you know, I think
<v Speaker 7>maybe there's probably more too within this, but yeah, he
<v Speaker 7>did seem a little stretched than there in the last
<v Speaker 7>few years, right, Like, yep, definitely dontrel not as well
<v Speaker 7>received an expansion sixteen had some issues, So yeah, let's
<v Speaker 7>let's try to give the man a little bit of
<v Speaker 7>space here.
<v Speaker 4>He's also like still going to be very crucial to
<v Speaker 4>like the executive management of that company, Like they said
<v Speaker 4>that he'll continue to serve as an executive officer. He'll
<v Speaker 4>also be joining the Executive Management Committee starting April first,
<v Speaker 4>which you know, it's not going to be the board
<v Speaker 4>of directors, but might be actually more crucial to how
<v Speaker 4>squirreen x op rates as a company. So you know,
<v Speaker 4>it should be still incredibly crucial to Square Enix, like
<v Speaker 4>maybe the most crucial employee that they have. All right,
<v Speaker 4>that just for that line's jam back over to you.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna go take another quick bricky break and we'll
<v Speaker 1>be back with some emails right after this.
<v Speaker 4>Emails.
<v Speaker 1>BombCast John bomb dot com is the email addressed to
<v Speaker 1>send your emails to Mike. We actually got an email
<v Speaker 1>where someone sent in a beat for the next gamer Rap.
<v Speaker 2>I heard about that.
<v Speaker 7>I was complaining that I didn't have a backing beat
<v Speaker 7>for so I'm I'm running out of excuses now.
<v Speaker 2>I don't have to really get this thing done soon.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna say this out here, out loud, because this
<v Speaker 1>is how the stuff happens. You just say it and
<v Speaker 1>then you're kind of held to it. I think I
<v Speaker 1>want new segment music.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, it's time. It's time. Is the new gamer
<v Speaker 2>Rap is going to be that?
<v Speaker 1>No Mike drop a bar?
<v Speaker 2>Oh hey, it's time for emails, so send them in
<v Speaker 2>before it's an e fail. I want to know what
<v Speaker 2>you're thinking. If your opinions are bad, I'll tell them
<v Speaker 2>they're stinking.
<v Speaker 1>Giant bomb doc.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, that was better than I expected that to be
<v Speaker 2>thank you.
<v Speaker 1>You're like you're like a Kyle of mar Mike. Wow.
<v Speaker 5>Also very funny that Drake was in the first row
<v Speaker 5>elimination chamber and they never know I'm sure not to
<v Speaker 5>be shown, but still very funny.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, oh god, yeah, because they'll show Vanessa Hudgens at
<v Speaker 1>every single event she's.
<v Speaker 5>In and I don't that's the biggest star in the world,
<v Speaker 5>in the W Doe universe.
<v Speaker 1>The peg is the biggest star in my heart to
<v Speaker 1>big God, the peng has got podcast beef. Y'all hear
<v Speaker 1>about this, you'll see that. No, No, she's with a
<v Speaker 1>former co star, the woman that maitland Ward that played
<v Speaker 1>Rachel in the later seasons of Boy Meets World. They
<v Speaker 1>had beef or have beef. I'm not gonna it's not
<v Speaker 1>my place, Mike.
<v Speaker 2>Is that about boys?
<v Speaker 1>No? Yeah, yeah, Award yep, Okay, yep, yep, Yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>googled it, yep, yep, yep, yep.
<v Speaker 5>Yet I brought her onto the New Day podcast once
<v Speaker 5>was a surprise because Woods was like in love with
<v Speaker 5>her from his childhood and so we just had I
<v Speaker 5>forgot if we like cued up some conversation about Boy
<v Speaker 5>Meets World and I just had to Panga joined the
<v Speaker 5>zoom call and Woods freaked out.
<v Speaker 1>Let it be known. I would love that, but I still.
<v Speaker 4>Got her number.
<v Speaker 2>Jan If you needn't talk to her, we.
<v Speaker 4>Should get to bang hole.
<v Speaker 1>The boy spailed up truckle. But god, yeah, sorry, sorry,
<v Speaker 1>my heart's beating it.
<v Speaker 7>Like the whole thing with Tapang originally is like she
<v Speaker 7>was like a weird character, and then like he was,
<v Speaker 7>she got Steve rkled in and they kind of normalized
<v Speaker 7>her to just be like the kind of love interest.
<v Speaker 7>But at first, like the whole point was like Topanga's
<v Speaker 7>the weird character of a weird name, and she's a weirdo.
<v Speaker 1>Really, just what are you talking? No, she's not Kimmy Gibbler.
<v Speaker 2>She was like, no hippie kid, hippi kid. It was
<v Speaker 2>a hippie kid.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, okay, all right. First email comes in, subject Ryan.
<v Speaker 1>The line read avowed I didn't write down the emailer's name.
<v Speaker 1>Uh that's it. I don't understand the reviews on this
<v Speaker 1>play exploration, art and narrative or fun anyway, have a
<v Speaker 1>good week. Thank you.
<v Speaker 7>There was a part of me it's like, okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 7>the reviews like art maybe beside they will be, but
<v Speaker 7>I bet like the Steam reviews will be much better,
<v Speaker 7>and even those are just like mostly positive, which is
<v Speaker 7>kind of the same a bit all over the place
<v Speaker 7>of vibe I got from a lot of people. I
<v Speaker 7>get there's there are a lot more people I guess
<v Speaker 7>concerned with because they're biking saying this this phrase the
<v Speaker 7>world does it feel alive enough? I kind of know
<v Speaker 7>what people mean by that, but also one kind of
<v Speaker 7>don't until kind of don't care as much as so
<v Speaker 7>many people because it's.
<v Speaker 4>An action rpg, like it's it's like a lot of
<v Speaker 4>it feels as alive as a lot of other action rpg.
<v Speaker 5>I mean, I get the thing in that, like, Okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 5>it's cool that in Bethesda one, you know, you could
<v Speaker 5>just kill like an NBC and then you can't take
<v Speaker 5>that question from them, Like I think that is cool.
<v Speaker 5>But that was also a giant Bethesda thing like this
<v Speaker 5>was this is a shorter and more streamlined thing like
<v Speaker 5>and it didn't bother me.
<v Speaker 2>It's so fun.
<v Speaker 1>Tosse All to play.
<v Speaker 4>About definitely got graded on a like different rubric. It
<v Speaker 4>got like like you're not the game that I thought
<v Speaker 4>you were going to be, So there for you are
<v Speaker 4>bad and that it's weird that happens sometimes in people's expectations.
<v Speaker 4>You're allowed to have your expectations, but it definitely is
<v Speaker 4>getting I think a little unfairly assessed based on people
<v Speaker 4>thinking it was a very specific kind of game and
<v Speaker 4>it didn't do a lot of that stuff because it
<v Speaker 4>wasn't interested in that stuff. So that's a shame yep.
<v Speaker 1>Next email is about cousins high bombers. I'm here answering
<v Speaker 1>the BombCast call for aid parentheses emails, and I assume
<v Speaker 1>you were being inundated this week. I recently read Polygon's
<v Speaker 1>cousin game cousin Games article, which, if you haven't read,
<v Speaker 1>is essentially coins the term cousin games for essentially in
<v Speaker 1>your youth that you loved but later found out they
<v Speaker 1>were essentially a store brand video game, perhaps could even
<v Speaker 1>be thought of as a B game, as you thought
<v Speaker 1>was a triple A game. It brought my mind a
<v Speaker 1>game when I was a kid, speed Freaks. I think
<v Speaker 1>it was called speed Punks in the US. This game
<v Speaker 1>is important to me for a few reasons. When I
<v Speaker 1>was a kid, it was my first introduction to kart games,
<v Speaker 1>and I loved it. I really thought it was amazing.
<v Speaker 1>It's only recently I found out that basically no one
<v Speaker 1>else I knew had played it. It just happened to
<v Speaker 1>be a game from my childhood that my childhood best
<v Speaker 1>friend had, so we played it to death. I later
<v Speaker 1>found Crash Team Racing and that Mario Kart when I
<v Speaker 1>got DS and learned what proper cart racers feel like,
<v Speaker 1>but I still sometimes replay Speed Freaks as it holds
<v Speaker 1>up for me. I also later found out that it
<v Speaker 1>was basic. It was actually developed by fun Com in Ireland,
<v Speaker 1>which has really added to its lore, as Irish games
<v Speaker 1>are are few and far between, so I'm wondering if
<v Speaker 1>you had ever heard of this game, play this game,
<v Speaker 1>and also what would your cousin games be? Thanks guys,
<v Speaker 1>Brian Dublin, Ireland.
<v Speaker 4>I heard I've heard the words.
<v Speaker 5>Okay, I remember seeing this box art in the vault.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah I never played it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, oh gosh, I think I did.
<v Speaker 5>Oh these are crazy the box. I was like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 5>these are Atomic Warheads characters. Yeah wow yeah ninety nine.
<v Speaker 5>That's way later than I would have guessed.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah this ki.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I guess mine very literally cousin games because me
<v Speaker 5>and my cousin played a ton of games growing up,
<v Speaker 5>and there's usually any s, but these are probably bigger
<v Speaker 5>than what this writer's talking about. But the one's gonna
<v Speaker 5>find her Bubble Bobble Rampage and Caveman Games. Those are
<v Speaker 5>the two player games that, like mym I ever staying
<v Speaker 5>over at MAT's plays. We are definitely just playing those
<v Speaker 5>all night.
<v Speaker 2>That's so funny because like bubble bob was definitely a
<v Speaker 2>game I mostly played at my cousin's place. Like I
<v Speaker 2>love bubble Babble, I have a like this little poster
<v Speaker 2>of it over here, so I love it, But it
<v Speaker 2>was a game I never actually owned.
<v Speaker 7>It was at my cousin slash Grandma's. Then the other
<v Speaker 7>two I associate with that which like arn't like big games.
<v Speaker 7>But there was a Barbie game for the Super Nintendo
<v Speaker 7>they have where you rode a horse and did some
<v Speaker 7>other things, and Spot not Cool Spot for the genis
<v Speaker 7>Superintendent just Spot, which was an Othello clone for the
<v Speaker 7>any Oh sure, yeah, I thought that game was good.
<v Speaker 2>They had some sick animation. I'm not gonna lie.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, my uh definitely going over to like cousins or
<v Speaker 4>family member's house, I remember, like that's where I discovered Karnoff,
<v Speaker 4>which was for me was a long time. Was this
<v Speaker 4>game that no one else ever talked about. And then
<v Speaker 4>it's all anyone talks about a giant bomb. So it's
<v Speaker 4>different now anyone talk all anyone talks about Uh, everyone
<v Speaker 4>loves Karanoff, Come onlated man, and I I was it
<v Speaker 4>blew my mind a couple years ago when I discovered
<v Speaker 4>the Karanoff was like had like a fighting game series.
<v Speaker 4>He was like the ringleader of and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 4>He's like a whole character for whoever that company was.
<v Speaker 2>Dating Carniv and Reigar mixed up.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I get it too. And then Heini hadiokio Anlien
<v Speaker 4>was this like game Boy game that's about digging holes
<v Speaker 4>and trapping trapping aliens in the hole. And then that's
<v Speaker 4>another one where later I discovered apparently that was like
<v Speaker 4>a very popular arcade game in Japan, and so it
<v Speaker 4>like has this history that a lot of people know about,
<v Speaker 4>but no one ever talked about that in any of
<v Speaker 4>the circles I was in for a very long time.
<v Speaker 1>My cousin game is Rayman Arena. I don't know if
<v Speaker 1>you'll remember this oh yeah, yeah, this was a Rayman
<v Speaker 1>racing game. I guess split screen Jimmy jam Yeah, Me
<v Speaker 1>and my little cousin played this a bunch. Cousin games
<v Speaker 1>also kind of extend to something like Minecraft, just because
<v Speaker 1>it was just like a boxy environment where you could
<v Speaker 1>do kind of do whatever.
<v Speaker 5>I definitely also associate j RPGs with my cousin because
<v Speaker 5>he was a big RPG guy or JRPG guy, and
<v Speaker 5>so like Superintendo era, he'd be like, Okay, I know
<v Speaker 5>you don't usually like these, pe check out Secret of Evermore.
<v Speaker 5>And then I would like play it until it was
<v Speaker 5>a turn based thing. I was like, why are what
<v Speaker 5>do you play these? Fantasy all those?
<v Speaker 2>And say I do not understand. But he also introduced
<v Speaker 2>me to Mortal combat and Command of Concker, so hey,
<v Speaker 2>oh there you go.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, okay, next emailer is seeking some validation email rates,
<v Speaker 1>and hello, bombers, I need some of y'all to possibly
<v Speaker 1>validate an issue I might have. This could be so long,
<v Speaker 1>so I'll bullet point the story, all right. Move from
<v Speaker 1>New York to Rally in twenty seventeen. Have old retro consoles,
<v Speaker 1>primarily RGB, all look like ass on big fancy modern TV.
<v Speaker 1>Discovers North Carolina has an insane thrift source scene purchases
<v Speaker 1>CRT coax only in vcr coacs out RGB in life
<v Speaker 1>is good with old TV. Maybe I get another Discovers
<v Speaker 1>North Carolina thrift Thrift also has an insane VHS scene.
<v Speaker 1>Purchased some classics, purchase more classics, some more classics, and
<v Speaker 1>more classics. They write, I asked that Jan read this
<v Speaker 1>blow with sincerity.
<v Speaker 2>So here's my potential issue. It's now twenty twenty five
<v Speaker 2>and I have easily over five hundred VHS tapes. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I absolutely fucking love every single one of them and
<v Speaker 2>watch them all the time. Now this part with intensity
<v Speaker 2>and slight hint of concern.
<v Speaker 1>What did I do? What am I become? Am I
<v Speaker 1>a monster? Or just a man with a passion for
<v Speaker 1>cool VHS tapes? They look awesome and reek of nostalgia.
<v Speaker 1>I even crafted some floating shelves and put them on
<v Speaker 1>display in my gaming room. Back to sincerity. Anyways, that's
<v Speaker 1>my rant. There's my issue for the world of GB
<v Speaker 1>to know this kind of thing ever happened to you? Guys,
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grubb, Jan mostly looking to YouTube, love you all
<v Speaker 1>and remember rewind and be kind hard.
<v Speaker 2>Emotion problem, that's no problems.
<v Speaker 1>This is cool.
<v Speaker 2>This is a cool guy, fantastic.
<v Speaker 4>Big fan of this. Yeah I could, dude, I would Uh.
<v Speaker 4>I would love to be in your situation. Absolutely.
<v Speaker 2>I've had to stop myself from doing that.
<v Speaker 5>I got the CRT in the VCR and I'll see
<v Speaker 5>on like the basic marketplaces, like here's every great action
<v Speaker 5>movie from the nineties on VHS that takes up a
<v Speaker 5>lot of space, but.
<v Speaker 1>It's only twenty dollars and cut the rock and yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I do so.
<v Speaker 7>Our parents and they had midlife crisises. They would like
<v Speaker 7>buy motorcycles and boats. But yeah, money quite as good
<v Speaker 7>as it used to be. So yeah, by buying a
<v Speaker 7>CRT and a bunch of VHS tapes, that's fine.
<v Speaker 2>That's better, that's fun.
<v Speaker 4>Way better. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Like a movie critic, I really like Chay Serrano. He
<v Speaker 1>started like collecting a bunch of VHS tapes and I
<v Speaker 1>thought like, oh no, I don't want to do that.
<v Speaker 1>And then I kind of want one of those old
<v Speaker 1>dorky SpongeBob CRTs that have like the VCR.
<v Speaker 4>Combo to totally.
<v Speaker 1>I kind of just want one behind me at all
<v Speaker 1>times just that I just pop a new tape in.
<v Speaker 5>That's whenever I have like a party here, I'll usually
<v Speaker 5>just like I have boxes of my old VHS tapes
<v Speaker 5>of just like everything I taped on TV and like
<v Speaker 5>junior high in high school, and I'll just put one
<v Speaker 5>in and be like, we'll see what I was taping
<v Speaker 5>when I was thirteen. And then it's usually just like
<v Speaker 5>a bunch of like Conan bits and Simpsons episodes in
<v Speaker 5>older wrestling, just like here's a bunch of The Man
<v Speaker 5>Show of Insomnia.
<v Speaker 7>I gotta find it. But like the One New Year
<v Speaker 7>is like like two thousand something. They just did a
<v Speaker 7>Iron Chef marathon and I like diligently recorded the entire thing.
<v Speaker 7>I love the Iron Chef so much so I would
<v Speaker 7>just watch those tapes over and over.
<v Speaker 2>God, Iron Chef is amazing. Like some of those tapes
<v Speaker 2>just I just think about them, like the Jurassic Park
<v Speaker 2>vhs and how yeah that looks?
<v Speaker 5>Did that have the textured and We'm I thinking of
<v Speaker 5>the book they had the textured logo. Maybe I'm thinking
<v Speaker 5>of the book.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe it's a little embossed. I forget. We're just like
<v Speaker 2>a little jumpy logo.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, it's just like the like the Batman VHS was
<v Speaker 7>the same, right, It's just like that clean logo maybe
<v Speaker 7>like one like pool quote or like tagline there the.
<v Speaker 2>Old original movie.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, the original trilogy with the silver boxes, the Silver
<v Speaker 5>and the Gold wasn't.
<v Speaker 4>One full screen and one was yeh gold, Gold was
<v Speaker 4>full screen, Silver was wide screen. I got the Gold
<v Speaker 4>one first, and then my friends like, the movie's getting
<v Speaker 4>cut off, Like what are you talk about? They're not
<v Speaker 4>cutting out scenes. And then I got the Abyss Special
<v Speaker 4>Special Edition because I was just into James Cameron. I'd
<v Speaker 4>never heard of or seen this movie before, and I
<v Speaker 4>took it home and it started with a long explanation
<v Speaker 4>of pan and scan and I was like, oh, okay,
<v Speaker 4>so this is like they are just cutting off the
<v Speaker 4>signs of these movies, and James Cameron's like, you're a
<v Speaker 4>fucking war criminal if you watch a movie in pan
<v Speaker 4>and scan only wide screen, And so I'm like, well,
<v Speaker 4>I'm gonna go and get those The Silver Star Wars
<v Speaker 4>trilogy right now.
<v Speaker 5>That's totally that era's version of Tom Cruise being like,
<v Speaker 5>you know, don't watch with motion smoothing or like don't
<v Speaker 5>watch movies on your phone.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and I haven't cut overnight.
<v Speaker 7>That last issue of the non special edition of the
<v Speaker 7>Star Wars trilogy, like each one, opened with Leonard Malton
<v Speaker 7>talking to George Lucas.
<v Speaker 2>Right, Yeah, that's rule.
<v Speaker 4>I love this. VHS is a cool or stuff at home?
<v Speaker 4>What is?
<v Speaker 2>Uh?
<v Speaker 4>You guys remember like a TV like special or a
<v Speaker 4>like a really weird one that you were excited for.
<v Speaker 4>For me, it was the I think direct the TV
<v Speaker 4>sequel for Revenge of the Nerds that was going to
<v Speaker 4>be in three D.
<v Speaker 1>Oh my god.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, And you could go to seven eleven and get
<v Speaker 4>the three D glasses and it would like you put
<v Speaker 4>on the glasses and they would it was they were
<v Speaker 4>just using this effect where they would like pan to
<v Speaker 4>the left and they would play at a high frame
<v Speaker 4>rate and it just kind of bat looked three D
<v Speaker 4>yea so weird.
<v Speaker 5>They did that with an ABC block on like a
<v Speaker 5>Wednesday night when it was like Drew Carey Show, and like,
<v Speaker 5>I'd never really watched the Drew Krey Show, but it's
<v Speaker 5>like all four of our shows this night are going
<v Speaker 5>to be in three D. And you could like go
<v Speaker 5>to grocery stores like and Entertainment weeklyes they would have
<v Speaker 5>the glasses or something.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they did this for Nickelodeon. They they call them
<v Speaker 1>noggle goggles. Oh that's what basic right.
<v Speaker 2>And all it was it was color code of Nickelodeon.
<v Speaker 2>Like the reds would just show up like closer to
<v Speaker 2>you than like the blues or something. So all the
<v Speaker 2>shows are just kind of made like that. It was
<v Speaker 2>I remember Hey Arnold scene. Yeah, hell Go is having
<v Speaker 2>a night and there's like a tunnel and like the
<v Speaker 2>like the hearts closer in the tunnel were read is
<v Speaker 2>weird effect.
<v Speaker 5>I have like four blank tapes that I filled with
<v Speaker 5>nine to eleven footage on actual nine to eleven.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know why we're.
<v Speaker 5>Ever time I looking through, it's like, oh, here's all
<v Speaker 5>my old like Degeneration next and Devin Reftvas.
<v Speaker 1>And the nine eleven footage.
<v Speaker 2>Jesus Christ, it all comes differently.
<v Speaker 4>Dan, It's okay, Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I should probably be taping this.
<v Speaker 5>This seems historic, you're yo, I've seen it. Yeah, God,
<v Speaker 5>I just looked if people forget, you don't think they
<v Speaker 5>will ever. I looked at Facebook.
<v Speaker 1>Marketplace and there are several people just giving out boxes
<v Speaker 1>of v tape. Oh it's easy to find if you
<v Speaker 1>want to go that route. Yeah, okay, question for y'all.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, Mike, I know that generally the Disney tapes had
<v Speaker 2>like the plastic sleeve book around it. Do you all
<v Speaker 2>prefer that or like the paper sleeves. I love the
<v Speaker 2>paper sleeves personally.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, the plastic ones kept better. Well, the plastic ones.
<v Speaker 5>I feel like when you bought them, like you, they
<v Speaker 5>would always be the cardboard right. I feel like if
<v Speaker 5>you went to Blockbuster, you're talking like the clamshell plastic.
<v Speaker 4>Look the Disney. Disney did the Big Clam Show.
<v Speaker 2>It seems like so much. I know, but I know
<v Speaker 2>what you're talking about.
<v Speaker 5>Friends would have those and it's just the big wasted plastic,
<v Speaker 5>like the white cases, Like, no fuck that.
<v Speaker 7>I mean, ELK was cat better. They're nice in their
<v Speaker 7>own way. It's like it's like the cardboard boxes for
<v Speaker 7>the Super Nintendo games. Now is a PA like Genesis
<v Speaker 7>Clam Show.
<v Speaker 5>I like, oh man, every once in all I see
<v Speaker 5>like an Earthroom Gym two or a vector man, I'm like, oh,
<v Speaker 5>I remember hating these cardboard boxes.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, the big puffy boxes for the Disney movies always
<v Speaker 4>just looked like they were afraid the movies were going
<v Speaker 4>to hurt themselves or something. It was like protective padding.
<v Speaker 7>It was weird, sure, sure, all right, I can't call
<v Speaker 7>it was so normalized to me out there for it.
<v Speaker 7>If it's weird to me, that's like, that's just one
<v Speaker 7>of the two ways that came in.
<v Speaker 2>All right.
<v Speaker 1>We got a bunch of lovely, fantastic emails. Thank you
<v Speaker 1>everyone to writing into the show. We'll read two more.
<v Speaker 1>First or second and last one comes from Jeff from
<v Speaker 1>Rhode Island. Hey, dudes, what the fuck does shoot mean?
<v Speaker 1>I came back to the podcast after a small break
<v Speaker 1>and have been listening to you guys use the word
<v Speaker 1>shoot as an adjective and have no idea what it means.
<v Speaker 1>Anytime I think I figure it out with context clues,
<v Speaker 1>it's used in the context that confuses me. Again, Please
<v Speaker 1>help me, Jeff.
<v Speaker 5>You can watch the Jeff Jarrett voicemail Dump Truck where
<v Speaker 5>we talked about it and he gave us his full blessing.
<v Speaker 5>Acclaimed Jeff Jarrett gave us his blessing to say shoot
<v Speaker 5>and work in other Carnie terms.
<v Speaker 4>Shoot it's just a straight shooter.
<v Speaker 2>Shoot means real.
<v Speaker 4>Yep, It's just like you're a straight shooter, so you
<v Speaker 4>are talking real it means real. Yeah. It kind of
<v Speaker 4>just goes all in, all up and down that context.
<v Speaker 4>So it can just mean this thing is real, or
<v Speaker 4>it can mean I'm going to be real with you.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but it's always in that context of like.
<v Speaker 4>A straight shooter. That's where the term comes from. Yep.
<v Speaker 2>And if I'm working you, I'm putting on an act
<v Speaker 2>or I'm trolling you or yeah.
<v Speaker 4>It uh you know, like Sean uses shoot all the
<v Speaker 4>time now.
<v Speaker 5>And stuff like that integrated with us rid Nicky Grayson's
<v Speaker 5>newsletter and they just shoot and yeah, yes, yes, I
<v Speaker 5>want to talk.
<v Speaker 2>Yes.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>When I was going into the office to help with
<v Speaker 1>like the studio build and just hanging with the game
<v Speaker 1>Spot crew, I was holding back and then I decided,
<v Speaker 1>fuck this, No, I need to be a straight shooter here.
<v Speaker 1>And I'm happy that I don't have the code switch
<v Speaker 1>anymore amongst my coworker. Yeah, there you go. I can
<v Speaker 1>I can live how.
<v Speaker 2>I want to live, all right. Last email of the
<v Speaker 2>show comes from Pete. Pete writes in hey BombCast, in
<v Speaker 2>light of Dan's decision to rank Tony Hawk above Final Fantasy,
<v Speaker 2>not just me. I wanted your thoughts on some more
<v Speaker 2>arbitrary comparisons. What's better Donkey Kong ninety four versus all
<v Speaker 2>Pokemon games? Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong ninety four, Probably Donkey
<v Speaker 2>Kong ninety four. I don't know.
<v Speaker 7>Pokemon like Hard Goold Soul, Silver and Black and White
<v Speaker 7>games are probably pretty close.
<v Speaker 1>Well, I'm gonna say Pokemon. Uh. Metroid Prime versus Mario sixty.
<v Speaker 5>Four, Mario sixty four, this one's very close. Metro Prime
<v Speaker 5>is kids ass, but it's Maria sixty four.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 7>I was just actually listening to when Metro Prime got
<v Speaker 7>knocked off your brecket on the fire Escape one hundred,
<v Speaker 7>and I was a bit sad it didn't go little.
<v Speaker 2>Do you remember what I got knocked on by? I
<v Speaker 2>can't remember, gosh. So there's a lot of games that
<v Speaker 2>get talked about in that thing. I didn't remember thinking
<v Speaker 2>like this.
<v Speaker 7>With Jeff and I did a similar thing, figure out
<v Speaker 7>what the best big game ever was. I think we
<v Speaker 7>decided on Super met right. I don't even think that
<v Speaker 7>was on like your bracket at all. I tried, and
<v Speaker 7>I appreciate it.
<v Speaker 4>It's tough for me. I got I let's just try it.
<v Speaker 4>I'm gonna say Metroy Prime and see if I know
<v Speaker 4>that feels right to me. I'm gonna say Metroid Prime.
<v Speaker 2>It's not a crazy thing. It's like, I don't get
<v Speaker 2>Let me look at my top one hundred. What did
<v Speaker 2>I say there? I met I have Metric Prime right
<v Speaker 2>above Mario sixty four, Metroy Prime at seven, Mario sixty
<v Speaker 2>four at eight. So it's like as close as it
<v Speaker 2>could be. But I guess I'll say Metroy Bride.
<v Speaker 4>Yep, that's a tough one for me, all right.
<v Speaker 1>Next comparison ice cold drinks versus salt.
<v Speaker 2>What the fuck?
<v Speaker 3>Oh?
<v Speaker 1>Man? I love I love both ice.
<v Speaker 4>Cold drinks, but you need salt. We can't have like no, no, no,
<v Speaker 4>you're just saying which one is better. We're just saying
<v Speaker 4>it's I think it's salt.
<v Speaker 5>I think it's salt wall and they're saying ice cold.
<v Speaker 5>Oh it's ice slash cold drinks.
<v Speaker 1>Ship.
<v Speaker 2>I was gonna say, I could take just normal cold,
<v Speaker 2>not ice cold. Yeah, just fine. Yeah, I don't even
<v Speaker 2>usually I don't. I never pour my drinks into a
<v Speaker 2>glass of ice. Honestly, like frigerator cold is plenty cold.
<v Speaker 5>I have a twelve pack in the cabinet, but it's
<v Speaker 5>not like I don't have any sodas in the fridge.
<v Speaker 5>Then I will pour some and ice, but I won't
<v Speaker 5>drink it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, but like salt has saved so much mid food
<v Speaker 1>for me.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, I mean I would probably like if it
<v Speaker 4>were a situation where I could only have one or
<v Speaker 4>the other, I probably would regret going with cold because.
<v Speaker 2>You saw you can just say soft food, you need salt.
<v Speaker 2>I'm going with salte.
<v Speaker 1>Okay. Now we have a couple of comparisons as what's
<v Speaker 1>worse a paper cut for stubbing your toe? Paper cut?
<v Speaker 1>Paper cut?
<v Speaker 7>No, I would rather watch a character in a movie
<v Speaker 7>get their arm ripped off than watch them ye a
<v Speaker 7>paper cut.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I've been thinking about that, the wrestler thing since
<v Speaker 5>you brought it up with Mickey Rourk. The daily scene that's.
<v Speaker 4>That plays in my head and it terrifies me every
<v Speaker 4>time he does.
<v Speaker 5>I stub my toe eight times a day and it's
<v Speaker 5>just fine. I'm mad for two seconds, but then like
<v Speaker 5>a paper cut.
<v Speaker 1>Is just like that stub a toe.
<v Speaker 4>It's like it like for me, it's like I'll stub
<v Speaker 4>my toe. It's so much pain for like, you know,
<v Speaker 4>a handful of seconds and then it's like, well that
<v Speaker 4>just doesn't hurt anymore. Yeah, and so I'm like used
<v Speaker 4>to that now. So yeah, paper cut, it's like once
<v Speaker 4>you have it, you notice it and it's like there,
<v Speaker 4>and it like stays with you even if it doesn't
<v Speaker 4>hurt as much anymore.
<v Speaker 5>It still feels if you've been a finger it's on
<v Speaker 5>your finger, you feel it everything, And yeah, it sucks.
<v Speaker 1>I feel like I can stomach most of the jack
<v Speaker 1>Ash shenanigans from the movies and the show. When they
<v Speaker 1>did the paper cut bit, that sucks, I did hate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>all right, continuing, what's worse getting three hours of sleep?
<v Speaker 1>For being hungover?
<v Speaker 5>I mean a lot of times it's both, you know,
<v Speaker 5>because like if you're hungover, it means you've been out late,
<v Speaker 5>like at the bars and stuff. It's like, oh shit,
<v Speaker 5>I got set an alarm for nine o'clock tomorrow, and
<v Speaker 5>it's like that's the worst.
<v Speaker 2>Over sticks with you a little longer though, Yeah, being
<v Speaker 2>hungover like it's worse now.
<v Speaker 7>Like when I was younger, being hungover suck like now
<v Speaker 7>being hungover is devastated.
<v Speaker 5>Three hours of sleep right, more of a lazy sleepy
<v Speaker 5>thing where it's like a hangover.
<v Speaker 4>But it's worse now.
<v Speaker 2>Than it was when I was in my worst, but
<v Speaker 2>it's still not as bad as people.
<v Speaker 4>I agree.
<v Speaker 2>I agree with that, yeah, because I think three hours
<v Speaker 2>of sleep is still three hours of sleep.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, yeah right. It's like you know when your
<v Speaker 1>health bar and in a game is like reduced down.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, we're actually managed yourself. You're just like, yeah, you're
<v Speaker 5>standing a bar, could use a recharge.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah yeah. Hung Being hungover is like, oh you you're
<v Speaker 1>debuffed for a while. It's mysterious.
<v Speaker 4>It sucks.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, all right, what's worse? Metal Gear Solid four Legend
<v Speaker 2>of z Eldas or Legend of Elda Skyward Sword? Oh
<v Speaker 2>oh oh dance looking very dance not upset. Dan's very
<v Speaker 2>upset that I have to think about this. They're two
<v Speaker 2>kind of like lesser entries, and they're very good franchises.
<v Speaker 2>Let's be clear, they are. They're both still good. They're
<v Speaker 2>both still good. But anybody who's like this is my
<v Speaker 2>favorite one in that series. Even you wouldn't Dan, You
<v Speaker 2>would never say Metal Gear Solid for is your cat.
<v Speaker 2>On the right day, I might weird day that's a.
<v Speaker 7>Weird Days is very good dungeons. It has very fun,
<v Speaker 7>liked the Mostion in Control.
<v Speaker 2>Skyward Sword got a ten from Damon Formarole.
<v Speaker 1>I was there.
<v Speaker 2>That's a little high.
<v Speaker 7>Yeah, it's a little high. I'm not gonna answer, you
<v Speaker 7>know the answer, Yeah, Melcher sawid for is. I wish
<v Speaker 7>there was twice as many gameplay sequences in it.
<v Speaker 2>As there are.
<v Speaker 7>It's not even that I think there's too much story whatever,
<v Speaker 7>Like I can be into its goofy story. I think
<v Speaker 7>the end stuff works. I just wish it was buffered
<v Speaker 7>with more gameplay segments it Also, it does not look great, right.
<v Speaker 7>It's one of those games that you know, in that
<v Speaker 7>PS three era, they're pushing a lot of things and
<v Speaker 7>was very ambitious, and the PS three is.
<v Speaker 2>Sort of struggling to keep up in a lot of ways. Jeff,
<v Speaker 2>what do you think?
<v Speaker 7>I've never played Metal Gear Solid for That's right, am
<v Speaker 7>I the one of the other person here has played
<v Speaker 7>both of these games.
<v Speaker 2>The completion I've I haven't completed Skyward Sword. I definitely
<v Speaker 2>have been both, and I like Skyward Sword.
<v Speaker 5>It's the second Wait, I think it's the worst sold Yeah,
<v Speaker 5>I think I just said, no, second Spear Trap DS
<v Speaker 5>one the middle of the pack.
<v Speaker 2>They're both better than links Wakening.
<v Speaker 5>No way, no, no, I'm sorry. No, Spirit tracks are
<v Speaker 5>the worst one. Phantom Hourglass is like middle of.
<v Speaker 7>The pack, and they're probably both on the bottom of mine.
<v Speaker 7>I think that they're both fine. They're probably close. I'll
<v Speaker 7>go ahead and say, if you ask me right now,
<v Speaker 7>I'd probably rather play Muggar solid for.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, okay, all right, all right, that about does it
<v Speaker 1>for emails this week. Bombcastigiantbomb dot com is the email
<v Speaker 1>addressed to send your lovely emails to thank you so
<v Speaker 1>much for everyone for writing into the show. I deeply
<v Speaker 1>appreciate it, and I'm rescuing them out of the spam folder. Actually,
<v Speaker 1>you know what, I believe in rehabilitation. I believe that
<v Speaker 1>in second chances, restorative justice, exactly grading for equity.
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna I'm gonna extend this to you, Travis, and
<v Speaker 2>don't you break my heart, gott don't you do this
<v Speaker 2>to me, Travis. Instead of reading your rapid fire emails,
<v Speaker 2>We're gonna read one of them. And if I here
<v Speaker 2>to the podcast Jungle that one of your emails has
<v Speaker 2>made it to another video game podcast.
<v Speaker 1>That's it. We're done, all right.
<v Speaker 2>You don't get a second chance like Corey did after
<v Speaker 2>he kissed Lauren in the ski lodge in Boy Meets World.
<v Speaker 2>All right, to Pango, that was very high of her.
<v Speaker 4>To do that, all right, More, it's a porn actress, right, Yes, Okay,
<v Speaker 4>I'm just making sure I like that name.
<v Speaker 2>Sounds familiar, I, Travis writes in Travis Sin Fargo. What
<v Speaker 2>dessert do you always have room for? With love Travis
<v Speaker 2>and Fargo? Anything? Cookies and cream?
<v Speaker 1>Oh? Good call.
<v Speaker 7>It's not the flavor. It's because so many desserts are
<v Speaker 7>too filling and they give you too much of them.
<v Speaker 7>And I already just ate a meal. I like cheesecake,
<v Speaker 7>but I can never eat a whole cheesecake crembrewlay, though.
<v Speaker 7>I always got a little room for cremberlay, that nice
<v Speaker 7>little cracker sugar thing on top, that nice little smooth custard.
<v Speaker 2>It's not too filling. It's never too big of a portion.
<v Speaker 7>It's a big that's I don't usually get dessert when
<v Speaker 7>I'm on vacations and you know where, they'll usually have
<v Speaker 7>a crimbroulet on the manu. I'll get a crimble I
<v Speaker 7>just don't enjoy myself longer.
<v Speaker 1>I just don't like how the crust like the sticks
<v Speaker 1>to my teeth sometimes.
<v Speaker 2>Oh it's a little.
<v Speaker 7>Sticky, but that's okay because like that brown like where
<v Speaker 7>the sugar gets burnt a bit.
<v Speaker 2>That's such a good flavor. That burns sugar flavor. Oh
<v Speaker 2>love it. I like this comment when Mike said crimbrewle Ay,
<v Speaker 2>we just got a comment says rich ass motherfucker. Oh
<v Speaker 2>my god, I'm sorry I said a French word.
<v Speaker 1>Of the Giant BombCast.
<v Speaker 4>I always have room for pumpkin pie.
<v Speaker 5>Oh yeah, the earth desert, right, yeah, goddamn right. I'm
<v Speaker 5>gonna grab two of those free mints on the way
<v Speaker 5>out the door.
<v Speaker 4>Wait's what's like a chocolate moose? Is that just the
<v Speaker 4>way of saying it's like kind of like a whip
<v Speaker 4>to dessert or whatever. It's like fancy pudding that's like
<v Speaker 4>basically eating air. So I probably always have room for that.
<v Speaker 2>Uh Tiara massouah, I haven't had a tea masoon in
<v Speaker 2>a wow with some good lady fingers in there.
<v Speaker 1>Holy shit, let's get a tea massoue baby.
<v Speaker 4>All right.

<v Speaker 8>No?
<v Speaker 4>No, I should play the game guys, assume they were sisters.
<v Speaker 2>No, no, no, they don't even like each other.
<v Speaker 4>No.
<v Speaker 7>On's a city one's a big city girl and the
<v Speaker 7>other one's a country goal.
<v Speaker 4>They do that with sisters every once in a while.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah right, I've seen the parent trap.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah see, we're going to have a power Bomb cast
<v Speaker 2>to discuss the fallout of the Elimination Chamber and all
<v Speaker 2>the other stuff that's probably gonna pop off this week

<v Speaker 1>to confirm here.
