<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, Welcome to Games Mornings with Me Jeff Greb, <v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for <v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking about Dice, <v Speaker 1>talking about what's next for Battlefield six, and reviews are <v Speaker 1>in for Switch to s next exclusive. It's gonna be <v Speaker 1>a good one because we have Jason Bonelli on the show. Jason, <v Speaker 1>how are you doing? <v Speaker 2>I am great. I mean, I've I've learned recently in <v Speaker 2>the last couple of days, how it should feel to <v Speaker 2>eat a donut. And I feel like we feel like <v Speaker 2>rock we We've been doing it wrong this entire time, <v Speaker 2>and I feel like now I just have to get <v Speaker 2>myself a donut to see if I can get myself <v Speaker 2>to that that level, that next level nirvana of donut <v Speaker 2>enjoyment that has now been broadcast before me. Uh and <v Speaker 2>to to the to us, to us, what if he's <v Speaker 2>the donut master race, what's that make the console peasants? <v Speaker 2>They the donut peasants, donut. <v Speaker 3>Peasants, doughnuts, low lowly donut peasants down here. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, but no, I'm I'm doing all right. You know, <v Speaker 2>it's the dregs this summer. Just get that that that <v Speaker 2>little loll point trying to get myself out of it. <v Speaker 2>Games Com should help. Next week, got a family trip <v Speaker 2>coming up, like I was talking about in the show <v Speaker 2>coming up, So I'll get I'll get back, I'll get back. <v Speaker 2>This is gonna help me. Being able to talk to <v Speaker 2>you about gaming news. This is gonna help me out too. <v Speaker 2>So let's let's do the thing. How are you, man? <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm good. I mean, I know you. You nail it. <v Speaker 1>Though, Like for me, like this is a little bit <v Speaker 1>of like a cheat code where it's like at least <v Speaker 1>every day I get to do game mess mornings and <v Speaker 1>that's it's always a good time. Get to talk to <v Speaker 1>cool people, get to hang out with chat. Everyone's so engaged. <v Speaker 1>It really is like a nice little thing to have. <v Speaker 1>But I hear you say, Okay, we're at that point <v Speaker 1>of summer for me as well, where schools about to <v Speaker 1>start up again, and it's like, man, did we do <v Speaker 1>enough fun stuff and we're gonna be busy, not gonna <v Speaker 1>have a lot of time. And it's like okay. Also, <v Speaker 1>but I at the same time looking forward to fall, <v Speaker 1>ready for it to get cool again. Although tell you what, <v Speaker 1>losing those fifty LB's really helped me survive summer in <v Speaker 1>a way that I have not in quite quite a <v Speaker 1>long time, where it was like, man, some are so miserable. <v Speaker 3>How can anyone like this? <v Speaker 1>You know, I still don't like it, but it was <v Speaker 1>a lot easier now there was a little bit trimmer. <v Speaker 2>I agree with that one hundred percent. I'll tell you what. <v Speaker 2>I was a lot more comfortable, like on the beach <v Speaker 2>or at the fool walking around without a shirt on. <v Speaker 2>After losing the fifty five pounds I've lost since last November. <v Speaker 2>It's kind of weird, like psychologically, just to be like <v Speaker 2>I don't feel like I have to hide myself anymore, <v Speaker 2>Like I still have. I still have a nice set, <v Speaker 2>but you know that they'll go away eventually. <v Speaker 3>And I like the working on it, right. Yeah, we're <v Speaker 3>trying to get there. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, listen, it's beautiful the way it is, Jason. <v Speaker 3>I know I am. <v Speaker 2>I am a beautiful person, and so are you. <v Speaker 1>But all right, let's explain ourselves as best we can. <v Speaker 1>We're giant bomb dot Com. I <v Speaker 1>don't know if I allow that, but you know, maybe <v Speaker 1>there's potential for back to go to premium members or <v Speaker 1>something like that. <v Speaker 2>If you thought the Donuts sounds were bad, Yeah, I <v Speaker 2>don't think we want the Disney Cut. <v Speaker 3>The way he slurps up Disney. <v Speaker 1>You're gonna, oh, you're gonna regret seeing that, everybody. But look, listen, <v Speaker 1>you could pay to see it maybe if you want. <v Speaker 3>I don't know. Like I said, they're gonna they have <v Speaker 3>to work on that. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's explain this show most weekdays, I Jeff Grubb, <v Speaker 1>will help piece your gaming life back together. That includes <v Speaker 1>breaking news and maybe even some of our own original reporting. <v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a <v Speaker 1>bona fide expert who will make me look smart? <v Speaker 3>You are watching live on Twitch Welcome. <v Speaker 1>You can always listen to the show later on podcast <v Speaker 1>feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find the <v Speaker 1>RSS feed on gimebomb dot com. You can also catch <v Speaker 1>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. <v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so <v Speaker 1>let's start the Morning Mess with Battlefield six. Devs promise <v Speaker 1>improvements and bigger maps. Let's get I'll go through some <v Speaker 1>of the details I have here. This is from several stories, <v Speaker 1>so I kind of pieced everything together as best I could. <v Speaker 1>The open beta for Battlefield six is concluded and developers <v Speaker 1>are addressing player feedback and bug reports, particularly regarding a <v Speaker 1>super bullet issue causing a faster than intended time to kill. <v Speaker 1>Principal game designer Florian Lebihan requested videos of this bug <v Speaker 1>and players are providing examples, speculating that it could be <v Speaker 1>a server delay. <v Speaker 3>In applying damage, whatever that means. <v Speaker 1>Other reported issues include health bar UI bugs and imperfect <v Speaker 1>helicopter controls. Basically, they made a big big deal about <v Speaker 1>them being on the case for these issues. The time <v Speaker 1>to kill thing is something some people are talking about <v Speaker 1>in regards to just like the standard time to kill. <v Speaker 3>Oh, it's pretty quick kind of call of duty. Like <v Speaker 3>do we like this or not? Some Battlefield fans I'm <v Speaker 3>sure are going to be like, no, we want it <v Speaker 3>to be kind of how it. <v Speaker 1>Was I was playing. I'm like, I think I prefer this. <v Speaker 1>I get someone of my sites, I shoot them, they <v Speaker 1>go down. That always feels pretty good to me. But <v Speaker 1>I am not the target audience here. This is a <v Speaker 1>separate thing where it's like, apparently there's a bug where <v Speaker 1>the time to kill is instantaneous essentially, So they're yeah, <v Speaker 1>like I said, make it a big deal about being <v Speaker 1>on top of that, Jason. Now, in addition, people are <v Speaker 1>also complaining about the map sizes. <v Speaker 3>Maps are too small. <v Speaker 1>They said, look, we put these smaller maps into this beta. <v Speaker 3>On purpose to show off. <v Speaker 1>Like what the game is like at its most intense <v Speaker 1>in terms of action. There are bigger map maps coming, <v Speaker 1>so don't worry about that. I think you know, Jason, <v Speaker 1>if we were a couple weeks ago talking about Battlefield <v Speaker 1>six is beta coming up, and we said, okay, after <v Speaker 1>the beta is out, the biggest complaints to people would <v Speaker 1>have would be like an occasional time to kill problem <v Speaker 1>and the maps being too small in the selection that <v Speaker 1>he chose for the beta, be like, they're probably in <v Speaker 1>a good place. They're clearly in a fantastic place with <v Speaker 1>Battfield six, right, they should be able to capitalize on <v Speaker 1>what they got going here. <v Speaker 2>I expected, like Battlefield fans to come out and say <v Speaker 2>that the beta is pretty good, because you never know <v Speaker 2>exactly based on the you know, reveal event, with all <v Speaker 2>the people that were in the audience saying like, yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's pretty good. I expected that. I did not expect <v Speaker 2>the limited amount of criticisms coming out of this first <v Speaker 2>weekend of the beta that I heard. I am suddenly <v Speaker 2>very confident in this game. I don't I don't know <v Speaker 2>what's given me that feeling, but like I've talked to <v Speaker 2>like friends of mine. One friend said it was it <v Speaker 2>was the marriage of Battlefield four and Battlefield one that <v Speaker 2>he wanted from twenty forty two. Another one said that <v Speaker 2>it was it was. One called it perfect swich. Good <v Speaker 2>for you, man. I hope it still is when it <v Speaker 2>comes out, but for you, But it also too. I <v Speaker 2>liked that they're coming out and immediately saying, look, these <v Speaker 2>are the most common concerns where we're looking into the <v Speaker 2>one the small map thing, you have to kind of <v Speaker 2>work with us there. It makes sense that they would <v Speaker 2>want as much action as possible, to be able to <v Speaker 2>test and iterate as much. <v Speaker 1>As possibility for like stuff to happen so they can <v Speaker 1>study that stuff and look at those data. <v Speaker 2>And that kind of leads in like, maybe they don't <v Speaker 2>find the time to kill bug if the maps are <v Speaker 2>too large and people aren't as condessed to create that bug. <v Speaker 2>So I think after Weekend one, I think they're in <v Speaker 2>a very good spot. We'll see what happens with Weekend <v Speaker 2>two if this Empire state map is a little bit bigger, <v Speaker 2>and then when you have modes like Russian Squad Deathmatch <v Speaker 2>coming into more standard battlefield modes. So far, yeah, I <v Speaker 2>mean there's no really, there's no real way to feel <v Speaker 2>about this. Then, way more positive than when you first <v Speaker 2>heard Battlefield six was a thing. At least in my case, <v Speaker 2>I didn't have a chance to play Weekend one. I'm <v Speaker 2>going to try and jump in this weekend Weekend two <v Speaker 2>because I'm actually home, we're not going out, we're not <v Speaker 2>doing anything, So yeah, I'm hoping I can get my <v Speaker 2>feet wet and see what's going on in this battlefield. <v Speaker 2>But so far sounds like things are good. <v Speaker 3>Yep. Yeah, I've played a bunch of it. Really enjoyed <v Speaker 3>what I played of it. <v Speaker 1>With the caveat that, I'm like, I know, I'm playing <v Speaker 1>Battlefield and it's not always exactly for me, but for <v Speaker 1>what they're going for here, I think it's a very <v Speaker 1>good one. And I did still have a good time <v Speaker 1>even you know, big part of it is I'm not <v Speaker 1>great at it. Just not good at battlefield, never have been. <v Speaker 1>You know, the cat and mouse of running around in <v Speaker 1>Call of Duty, of like you spawn, you see someone, <v Speaker 1>You're going to chase them around a corner who like, <v Speaker 1>you know, it's gonna flip a coin, who's going to <v Speaker 1>win that? <v Speaker 3>That's definitely fits with my brain. <v Speaker 1>Battlefield is like, okay, let's go get in position and <v Speaker 1>kind of figure out where the battle's flowing. And you know, <v Speaker 1>not exactly my thing always, but again that's just a <v Speaker 1>personal problem. The next beta is next weekend August fourteenth, <v Speaker 1>will introduce a new map, Empire State, and new modes <v Speaker 1>like Russian Squad death match as you mentioned, and yes, <v Speaker 1>the beta will be free and open to everybody, all platforms. <v Speaker 1>The game is out October ten, so again they're in <v Speaker 1>a good position to really capitalize on all this excitement. <v Speaker 1>The bita was massive again, over five hundred thousand concurrent players. <v Speaker 3>On steams a lot. <v Speaker 1>That is a ton you know, once the thing launches, <v Speaker 1>it's like it might be able to replicate those numbers <v Speaker 1>if you know, if there's you know, if it sells <v Speaker 1>enough like that, that will be the big question there. <v Speaker 1>But it feels like it's on the path to be <v Speaker 1>able to do maybe exactly that. <v Speaker 2>One. One other thing that I want to work on, though, <v Speaker 2>is shotgun aiming mechanics. I have seen a video where <v Speaker 2>that might be an issue for some players. <v Speaker 1>There's just some things you can't fix. We don't have, <v Speaker 1>but they're not miracle workers over at Dice. People just <v Speaker 1>go check out the Giant Bomb Blue Sky account and <v Speaker 1>see Mike's the shotgun shotgun scientists. <v Speaker 2>Not to pick on the same guy, but you know it, <v Speaker 2>he makes it so easy sometimes. <v Speaker 1>He definitely like I definitely had the exact same moment <v Speaker 1>happened to me when I was playing. <v Speaker 3>He has just got caught, So there we go. Uh. <v Speaker 3>Drag x drive reviews are. <v Speaker 1>In it's got a sixty on Open Critic at the moment, <v Speaker 1>with a handful of reviews not a ton uh. Steve <v Speaker 1>Watson GameSpot gave it a five out of ten said, <v Speaker 1>the multiplayer focused sports game from Nintendo has a novel <v Speaker 1>control scheme, but is the is tiring and feels imprecise. <v Speaker 3>I guess we should remind people what this game is, Jason. <v Speaker 1>This is the the dual mouse wheelchair basketball game from <v Speaker 1>Nintendo for the Switch to take. <v Speaker 3>We take both Joycon two off. You put them down <v Speaker 3>on your. <v Speaker 1>Lap or on a table, probably a table, because this <v Speaker 1>is like all about pretending that you are moving the <v Speaker 1>wheels of the tires of your of your wheelchair, and <v Speaker 1>so like you kind of move the mice back and <v Speaker 1>forth on the surface to kind of mimic that. Uh <v Speaker 1>does sound tiring, and I bet I bet it also <v Speaker 1>sounds or it does seem imprecise. Let's see what Daniel <v Speaker 1>Cuccarelli from The Games Machine says, A futuristic wheelchair basketball <v Speaker 1>game that nods to Rocket League. The idea isn't bad <v Speaker 1>and the foundation is there, but currently Drag and Drive <v Speaker 1>is more of an experimental title that needs some tuning <v Speaker 1>and above all desperately needs new content in the months <v Speaker 1>immediately following its launch. Let's finish up here with Charlie <v Speaker 1>Kelly at Checkpoint Gaming, who gave it us six out <v Speaker 1>of ten. By the way, I think Danielle COUDRELLI gave <v Speaker 1>it a six point five out of ten. Charlie says <v Speaker 1>with Dragon Drive, Nintendo's latest multiplayer jaunt is both the <v Speaker 1>things we hoped for and the things we feared. It <v Speaker 1>feels immersive and thrilling in the middle of matches to <v Speaker 1>be giving it you're all as you speed across the <v Speaker 1>court and try to sink shots as best you can, <v Speaker 1>being one with the chaos. Similarly, it's a concept and <v Speaker 1>control scheme that we haven't seen before in games, one <v Speaker 1>that deserves credit. <v Speaker 3>In the same breath. <v Speaker 1>Though this hyper specific control scheme and skill ceiling will weave, <v Speaker 1>a lot of players will leave, excuse me, a lot <v Speaker 1>of players, both casual and lesser abled behind. With how <v Speaker 1>demanding it can be. It doesn't help that Nintendo charm <v Speaker 1>isn't quite there, nor is there enough substantial side content, <v Speaker 1>fun and controlled doses. Dragon Drive remains a game I <v Speaker 1>will eagerly keep an eye on, hoping and praying it <v Speaker 1>gets the post launch support, quality of life and updates. <v Speaker 1>It needs to be the hallmark of quirky and accessible <v Speaker 1>multiplayer game design. <v Speaker 3>It so clearly desperately is trying to be. <v Speaker 1>Okay, that sounds like a pretty good summation of what <v Speaker 1>this game is actually going to be for people, something <v Speaker 1>that does have fun elements to the way you play it, <v Speaker 1>and once you're in the action, like maybe in especially <v Speaker 1>if you get used to the controls and you understand <v Speaker 1>what it's asking of you, I bet you can have <v Speaker 1>a good time with this. <v Speaker 3>It always it always seems spartan. <v Speaker 1>When I was looking at It's like, this looks limited <v Speaker 1>and it's a twenty dollars game, so it is going <v Speaker 1>to be exactly that. <v Speaker 3>How do you find these reviews? Are you surprised by <v Speaker 3>anything here? Because I'm just not. <v Speaker 2>Now this is slotting into the One to Switch sort <v Speaker 2>of realm of switched to you know what I'm saying. <v Speaker 2>Where the game came out, it was fun and short bursts, <v Speaker 2>but after extended gameplay, the gimmick kind of wore off <v Speaker 2>after a little while. Granted I did think that One <v Speaker 2>to Switch would last had lasted a little bit longer <v Speaker 2>than I thought this one would, just because when, as <v Speaker 2>you mentioned, when you think about the core gimmick or <v Speaker 2>the core movement of this game, it's going to get <v Speaker 2>very tiring in a hurry, especially on a system where <v Speaker 2>you're used to playing a handheld where it's most commonly <v Speaker 2>played handheld, I would think now you're taking it off, <v Speaker 2>and especially in like tabletop mode, that probably gets really awkward. Right, <v Speaker 2>So I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised, but I do <v Speaker 2>like that there are some redeeming qualities. There's a reason <v Speaker 2>to maybe dip into this thing if you're desperate to <v Speaker 2>play something for twenty bucks. Right, Will they continue to <v Speaker 2>update it? <v Speaker 3>Who knows? <v Speaker 2>If this is all that there is. It could be <v Speaker 2>a thing where twenty bucks doesn't even feel worth it. <v Speaker 2>And I guess it really depends on your tolerance for <v Speaker 2>pretending to cross country ski even though you're supposed to <v Speaker 2>be wheeling a wheelchair. Right, We'll see, we'll see what <v Speaker 2>the what the popular opinion is Nintendo's seen Nintendo fans <v Speaker 2>seem to be slightly less demanding on new ideas. They'll <v Speaker 2>give them a shot and be like, well, they tried <v Speaker 2>whatever next, which is what I expect to happen here. <v Speaker 2>But like you, I never thought this was going to <v Speaker 2>like blow anybody's mind. It wasn't going to change the world. <v Speaker 2>It was just gonna be a fun way to show <v Speaker 2>off what the mice can do, which honestly, they already <v Speaker 2>did that with Mario Paint, so it's even late in <v Speaker 2>that regard. <v Speaker 1>You know, a dual a dual mouse setup is unique, right, <v Speaker 1>That is a that's a different idea than we've seen <v Speaker 1>before pretty much anywhere. <v Speaker 3>I'm sure. <v Speaker 1>I'm sure other weird experimental things have done it, but <v Speaker 1>we haven't seen it in a popular release from a <v Speaker 1>big video game company. <v Speaker 3>So say, okay, I want to try it. I want <v Speaker 3>to see it. <v Speaker 1>We're going to play it Friday for UPF, so I'm <v Speaker 1>gonna get my hands on it myself. <v Speaker 3>Now. <v Speaker 2>If they use if someone, if another company can take <v Speaker 2>this experiment with the double mouse and get an idea <v Speaker 2>from it, then I think perhaps it would have been <v Speaker 2>worth it the long run. I don't know why, but <v Speaker 2>when I think of this and this movement, I'm getting <v Speaker 2>like Steel Battalion vibe. Yeah, driving a tank and pushing <v Speaker 2>buttons to shoot things. So maybe it can be iterative <v Speaker 2>maybe somebody can be inspired and try and find something <v Speaker 2>with the double mouse movement scenario, but as a first <v Speaker 2>run goes, it might not be all that impressive. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think that's probably. <v Speaker 1>It seems like a game that is going to be <v Speaker 1>worth playing if you know, they do a well. <v Speaker 3>They just did a free weekend. <v Speaker 1>Some people were trying that the the you know, it <v Speaker 1>was the Dragon Drive Global Jam, as Nintendos want to <v Speaker 1>do so it occasionally, and you know, people tried it and <v Speaker 1>seemed like, yeah, know what, this is actually kind of <v Speaker 1>it's more fun I thought it would be. And at <v Speaker 1>the same time, a lot of people are saying pretty <v Speaker 1>charmless for a Nintendo game, which is one of the <v Speaker 1>criticisms we had from one of the reviewers. <v Speaker 3>It does just seem sparse. <v Speaker 1>It seems limited in terms of like what it's going for, <v Speaker 1>like they didn't want to put a ton effort into it, <v Speaker 1>like it always was supposed to be a tech demo, <v Speaker 1>and I think that's kind of what we've ended up <v Speaker 1>with here. It's a pretty on tech demo. I'll take <v Speaker 1>it and I'll try it. I'll probably play. <v Speaker 3>At the one time and then maybe never touch it again. <v Speaker 1>We'll see Also, people are saying Nintendo doesn't like you <v Speaker 1>when you call them wheelchairs. <v Speaker 3>Well, why do you use wheelchairs? What are you talking about? <v Speaker 2>Okay, okay, chairs with wheels, stand chair down wheels. It's fine. <v Speaker 2>So what's the better tech demo? We have to do it? <v Speaker 3>Now? <v Speaker 2>Dragon Drive or Welcome Tour. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, god, that's I think I probably would <v Speaker 1>choose Welcome Tour. But let me play Dragon Drive and <v Speaker 1>see Welcome Tour has got enough like little interesting tidbits <v Speaker 1>of cool information that I'm like, you know what, that <v Speaker 1>was worth it in the end, And it's half the price, <v Speaker 1>only ten dollars for twenty dollars. <v Speaker 2>That's true. <v Speaker 1>All right, We'll keep going here. A new Halo game <v Speaker 1>will be released on PS five. According to rumor. This <v Speaker 1>is from Alex Hopley at Game Reactor. There are a <v Speaker 1>few ips more tied to a console than Halo is <v Speaker 1>to Xbox. However, it seems that that era of exclusivity <v Speaker 1>is truly coming to a close, as a data minor <v Speaker 1>has discovered that in coming Halo title looks looks to <v Speaker 1>be compatible with PlayStation. This information comes from ReBs Gaming, <v Speaker 1>a YouTuber and data minor known for scoops regarding Halo, <v Speaker 1>including correctly predicting when Halo Infinities multiplayer would launch. Using <v Speaker 1>grunt dot API, ReBs Gaming was able to access new <v Speaker 1>findings which pointed to a new Halo title with PlayStation <v Speaker 1>compatibility being worked on. A beta title and second PlayStation <v Speaker 1>compatibile title were discovered through the APAPI. It's believed certain <v Speaker 1>affinities upcoming project could be linked with the PlayStation, as <v Speaker 1>well as another game that could we could hear about <v Speaker 1>as soon as this year. Halo Studios is confirmed, we'll <v Speaker 1>see the next steps for Halo this year, and a <v Speaker 1>big mic dropt moment would be the official announcement of <v Speaker 1>PS five compatibility for Halo. Of course, until such an <v Speaker 1>announcement is made, take the information above with you, Grant <v Speaker 1>Assault and all that. A couple thanks here. On the <v Speaker 1>one side, Halo going to PlayStation in whatever form, whether <v Speaker 1>that support of an existing game or a remaster of <v Speaker 1>an older game, or a new Halo game that it's going. <v Speaker 3>To launch everywhere. <v Speaker 1>That just feels like it's gonna happen at this point, <v Speaker 1>like we've stopped, Like that's almost not. <v Speaker 3>Worthy of the headline. <v Speaker 1>The reason I even included this is is this it's <v Speaker 1>a certain affinities game. <v Speaker 3>I thought that was canceled. <v Speaker 1>That was project toa tanka, right, it was going to <v Speaker 1>be a Battle Royale sort of thing or inspired by <v Speaker 1>Battle Royale, and then they changed their ideas, but or <v Speaker 1>they canceled it. I thought, now, maybe maybe they didn't <v Speaker 1>cancel it. Maybe they did just change ideas and restart <v Speaker 1>and like take their assets that they had made and <v Speaker 1>maybe some of the gameplay mechanics and all the work <v Speaker 1>they did in Unreal Engine and shifted that in a <v Speaker 1>different direction. And now it's still coming, and when it launches, <v Speaker 1>it will be this new Halo experience that is likely <v Speaker 1>free to play and available on PC, mobile, Xbox and <v Speaker 1>PlayStation five does does that sound. <v Speaker 3>Plausible to you? <v Speaker 2>It does if they want to introduce Halo to the <v Speaker 2>PlayStation crowd, but not in a core Halo experience by <v Speaker 2>three four three itself, whatever that looks like. Now, this <v Speaker 2>would be the way to do it, right. You create <v Speaker 2>You just create something else, slap the Halo name on it, <v Speaker 2>and then send it over to PlayStation and see how <v Speaker 2>it goes. Now, with the this combined with the hell <v Speaker 2>Divers teases that have been happening for the last day <v Speaker 2>or so. I'm not sure if you've seen those. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm on the BombCast yesterday. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it feels feels like that might be the first <v Speaker 2>salvo into PlayStation on versus Halo on PlayStation with this <v Speaker 2>following it. <v Speaker 1>That's Hell Divers teasing that it could have Halo crossover content. <v Speaker 1>It played the saxophone solo or whatever from. <v Speaker 2>ODST and it shared the guy dropping. And then today, <v Speaker 2>yes there was someone there's a hidden signal that somebody <v Speaker 2>found that is like either reversed or sped up or <v Speaker 2>slow down. An't quite get into the nitty gritty of <v Speaker 2>it of the sound that plays in ODST when you <v Speaker 2>have like an audio log near you. Ye, so that <v Speaker 2>signal is now appearing in Hell Divers as well. So, yes, <v Speaker 2>Halo on PlayStation is inevitable at this point. I do <v Speaker 2>like the idea, perhaps of softening the blow to the <v Speaker 2>pearl clutching people who said it would never happen by <v Speaker 2>making it a non core Halo title and then introducing <v Speaker 2>the Master Chief Collection or what have you after the fact. <v Speaker 2>But this is just you know, now, do we hear <v Speaker 2>about it as soon as next Tuesday at opening Night Live. <v Speaker 2>I don't know. Certain Affinity is based in Texas, but <v Speaker 2>now they're owned by Keyword Studios, who is in Ireland, <v Speaker 2>so maybe the europe I feel like Games Comes like <v Speaker 2>the European development time to shine. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, but it's also just you know, another Kili thing <v Speaker 1>opening Night Live, so it's he probably is working globally <v Speaker 1>at this point. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, yeah, so or do we hear about it <v Speaker 2>later on in the year. Does Xbox to its own <v Speaker 2>thing that I don't know, but in its core Halo <v Speaker 2>coming to place. They should not surprise anyone, and if <v Speaker 2>this is a certain Infinity project, good for them. I'm <v Speaker 2>glad it was able to avoid cancelation even though we <v Speaker 2>thought it would. <v Speaker 1>Be yep, yeah, I think that we probably do get <v Speaker 1>announcement at Games Come. I don't know anything, but it <v Speaker 1>feels like, you know, Xbox talking a big game, like hey, <v Speaker 1>we're gonna have a lot of stuff, and if you <v Speaker 1>know they at a certain point, it's like you talk <v Speaker 1>your big game or whatever, but you need to like <v Speaker 1>kick off in earnest what this new strategy actually looks <v Speaker 1>like instead of just like hey, we had an old <v Speaker 1>game from a year ago, a forts Horizon game, that <v Speaker 1>was really big. We're putting on in PlayStation. We're just <v Speaker 1>kind of porting games and make more money, and so <v Speaker 1>oh yeah, cool, cool, cool, cool, that's awesome. What like, <v Speaker 1>what's really next for Xbox? <v Speaker 3>What does it look like? <v Speaker 1>And I think a Halo game new from certain affinity <v Speaker 1>launching on everything including PlayStation. They could really like just <v Speaker 1>put a stamp on this is what things are going <v Speaker 1>to be like going forward. <v Speaker 3>You know, get used to it or don't, who cares. <v Speaker 1>But at least now people can understand what Xbox means <v Speaker 1>when we say, hey, we're still Xbox. <v Speaker 3>I think that probably starts very soon. <v Speaker 2>And correct me if I'm wrong. But there is precedent here, <v Speaker 2>isn't games Colm Opening Night Live last year the first <v Speaker 2>place they announced that Indiana Jones was coming. <v Speaker 3>I don't. I can't remember the details specifically, but they have. <v Speaker 1>They have had a presence and made big news at <v Speaker 1>games Com multiple times before. <v Speaker 3>Yes, all right, so yeah, people chat are saying, yes. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, okay, cool, I got it right. So we'll see, Uh, <v Speaker 2>we'll see what they have for us next week. Maybe <v Speaker 2>they do kind of drop the bomb here. That would <v Speaker 2>be very interesting. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's take a break when we come back. <v Speaker 1>There's a new switch to drop into Nintendo Switch Online. <v Speaker 1>We'll talk about that and plenty more. Now all right, we're back. It's Game <v Speaker 1>Mess Mornings. Jeff Grub, Jason Finelle, Jason, let's talk about <v Speaker 1>this next one. Chibi Robo is the next GameCube title <v Speaker 1>coming to Switch toes Nintendo Classics Library. This is from <v Speaker 1>Chris Scullion at VGC. Nintendo has announced the next GameCube <v Speaker 1>title coming to switch to Chibi Robo will be coming <v Speaker 1>to the Nintendo Classics service on August twenty first, making <v Speaker 1>it the fifth GameCube title to arrive on the service. <v Speaker 1>Develped by the now dissolved Japan studio SKIP Limited, Chibi <v Speaker 1>Robo is a GameCube exclusive starring a tiny ten centimeter <v Speaker 1>tall robot helper. Robo belongs to the Sanderson family, and <v Speaker 1>it's his job to wander around their household performing various <v Speaker 1>tasks to help them out. As I had like a <v Speaker 1>little charging cable, Like he has a plug that comes <v Speaker 1>up as linius to like plug himself in and charge himself. <v Speaker 3>It's very cute and I've alway, I've always wanted to <v Speaker 3>play this, never have. This is one of those GameCube games, Jason. <v Speaker 1>If you want it physically, it's like one hundred and <v Speaker 1>twenty dollars, and I think that's just the disc you <v Speaker 1>get it with the you know, the case. It's quite <v Speaker 1>a bit more, you know, so collectors, sorry, but hey, <v Speaker 1>now everyone gets to play it. <v Speaker 3>This is pretty cool. Have you ever touched Chibi Robo? <v Speaker 2>No? I really thought I was gonna get roasted here <v Speaker 2>by saying I've never played Chibi Robo before, but you <v Speaker 2>said you never touched it. Dan Reichert in the chat said, <v Speaker 2>I'm finally going to play this game. Apparently I'm in <v Speaker 2>good company. This is one that we all missed. I'm <v Speaker 2>very excited. I always had an eye for this one, <v Speaker 2>but again, the collector's price, as you mentioned, kind of <v Speaker 2>kept me away from it. I've always thought it was <v Speaker 2>very cute. I've watched clips. It looks very neat. That <v Speaker 2>was it three DS or yes, version that came with <v Speaker 2>the Little Ambo guy that became one of the most <v Speaker 2>expensive ambos as well. Something about chib Robo with money. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>it looks uh, looks cute, looks fun. I'll definitely try <v Speaker 2>it out. It's nice to get another single player game <v Speaker 2>in the GameCube library. We need more of those Strikers <v Speaker 2>was fine and when Waker being there will take up <v Speaker 2>a lot of time, but let's get some more of <v Speaker 2>the the more not a bit of a skewer, but <v Speaker 2>the less known single player titles on the game Cube, <v Speaker 2>that the hidden gems that people may have missed, like <v Speaker 2>Chibi Robo here. If they want to start releasing two <v Speaker 2>a month, that'd be cool too. Write like this this <v Speaker 2>drip free drip drip feed bullshit kills me. I know <v Speaker 2>we've talked about this before. Come on, guys, can we <v Speaker 2>get more than one game per release per month? Are <v Speaker 2>you that worried they're not going to work? I don't know, <v Speaker 2>But anyway, Chibi Robo awesome, very excited to play it. <v Speaker 2>Let's see how it goes when it launches them. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I think the problem here is is <v Speaker 1>that we get to pass this first cluster of games <v Speaker 1>that they've already announced. They said these games are coming, <v Speaker 1>and once get past this first cluster they have already <v Speaker 1>announced them, I think it's gonna slow down. <v Speaker 3>Like I think we're gonna get like one every two <v Speaker 3>months at that point. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, yeah, yeah, and that's that's I mean, you know, <v Speaker 1>part of it is that it is likely the kind <v Speaker 1>of thing where they're like, hey, we want to keep <v Speaker 1>adding games, but it's a little bit difficult to get <v Speaker 1>anything that's not first party. So we only have a <v Speaker 1>limited number of first party games. Let's spread them out <v Speaker 1>over the course of the life of this console. But yeah, <v Speaker 1>I'm with you, I wish it was coming more frequently. <v Speaker 1>Although I'm a little surprised we were getting one per <v Speaker 1>month at this point. Cheaper robos definitely one. I'm gonna <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna try it finally. Yeah, I might have like <v Speaker 1>turned it on on an emulator at one point in <v Speaker 1>my life, very briefly. <v Speaker 3>But I never really got like its deal. <v Speaker 1>I never played it enough to understand like what Chibi <v Speaker 1>Robo was going for trying to make me feel as <v Speaker 1>a player so excited. <v Speaker 3>To check that out. <v Speaker 1>Also just kind of like it's cool to get games <v Speaker 1>like these back and back in the public consciousness and <v Speaker 1>have people talk about Chibi Robo even though it's a <v Speaker 1>game I never played. <v Speaker 3>I always liked this, like that's a cool looking thing. Cool. <v Speaker 3>I'm glad it's out there there. <v Speaker 1>People love these games, and now we'll have another chance <v Speaker 1>to find a new audience on the Switch to, which <v Speaker 1>seems pretty receptive to GameCube games, even if it's a <v Speaker 1>lot of people who are too young at the time <v Speaker 1>to enjoy them. Because Switch two has been so successful <v Speaker 1>or people just you know, switched the GameCube didn't sell <v Speaker 1>a ton you know, it's got this reputation now, but <v Speaker 1>only sold like twenty five ish million. There's a lot <v Speaker 1>of people who never touched any of these games, and <v Speaker 1>so Chibi Robo getting that chance to come. <v Speaker 3>Back pretty cool. I think this is like the one <v Speaker 3>really good Chibi Robo game. <v Speaker 1>I think the other ones are a little bit like, <v Speaker 1>quite a bit varying in quality, and most of them <v Speaker 1>aren't quite as good as this is my understanding, and <v Speaker 1>some of them are like one of them at least <v Speaker 1>is pretty bad. I think it might be that three <v Speaker 1>vs one, but I can't remember all right. Minecraft Console <v Speaker 1>Dev four J opens new Edinburgh studio as work continues <v Speaker 1>on its mind Minecraft rival Reforge. This is this is <v Speaker 1>an interesting one. Like for J they just helped with Minecraft. <v Speaker 1>Are they making a game that's going to compete with Minecraft? <v Speaker 1>Throughout the story? This is Chris Sculling at VGC, the <v Speaker 1>studio behind the console versions of Minecraft, has opened a <v Speaker 1>new studio in Edinburgh as it continues work on its <v Speaker 1>own Minecraft rival. Four J Studios, which was set up <v Speaker 1>in Dundee, Scotland in two thousand and five, is best <v Speaker 1>known for its console ports of Minecraft, having previously released <v Speaker 1>official versions for Xbox three sixty PS three, Xbox one, <v Speaker 1>PS four, Vita WU and Switch. However, last year the <v Speaker 1>studio announced Reforge, a new open world multiplayer survival game. <v Speaker 1>The sandbox game clearly designed to take on Microsoft's Game <v Speaker 1>with an entirely new offering. Now, as reported by The Scotsman, <v Speaker 1>FORJ has opened a new studio in Edinburgh which will <v Speaker 1>be home to staff focused on software and design roles <v Speaker 1>as work on Reforge continues. Four J studios currently employees <v Speaker 1>around fifty staff, and a recruitment drive has now started <v Speaker 1>to fill the new Edinburgh office with some of the <v Speaker 1>area's most talented developers. Yeah, Reforge it is a vaxhol <v Speaker 1>based crafting game, but they are they're to say they're <v Speaker 1>trying to work with the Minecraft community that they've built <v Speaker 1>up because they mail the console versions of the games. <v Speaker 3>Basically that wor can. <v Speaker 1>Hand and dowd of that community to make the game <v Speaker 1>that they always dreamed of or whatever. There was a <v Speaker 1>time when we got a lot of Minecraft clones and <v Speaker 1>spinoffs or games that were very similar, and many of <v Speaker 1>them did do very well. None of them obviously didn <v Speaker 1>anywhere close to what Minecraft does. That's a cultural institution, <v Speaker 1>but it did seem like there was space for alternatives. <v Speaker 1>Do you think there's still a space for an alternative <v Speaker 1>at this point? Like I don't know. <v Speaker 2>I don't know. On the surface, I would say I <v Speaker 2>don't know, But if somebody looks at this and connects, <v Speaker 2>for j to the console version of Minecraft, the pedigree <v Speaker 2>might be what convinces someone to give it a shot. <v Speaker 2>Like if you go to the Steam page for Reforge, <v Speaker 2>it looks similar enough that you could say, all right, <v Speaker 2>Minecraft going on here, but different enough that hey, maybe <v Speaker 2>they try something different, Maybe there's something else going on. <v Speaker 2>I don't know it. There's a lot of slippery slopes <v Speaker 2>in this project. I think, not just the fact that <v Speaker 2>it's a Minecraft like but also that they work so <v Speaker 2>closely with mo Yang and Microsoft on the on the <v Speaker 2>console versions of Minecraft. That one thing, it looks too <v Speaker 2>similar to what Minecraft is doing, and Microsoft's going to <v Speaker 2>either lunch legally, you know. <v Speaker 3>What I mean. <v Speaker 2>So it's they. I'm sure they have a clear vision <v Speaker 2>not only for their game, but also how to differentiate <v Speaker 2>it both in look and in content from Minecraft. I <v Speaker 2>don't know. I wish them well, I wish them the best. <v Speaker 2>I would love for this to be a pubg Fortnite <v Speaker 2>situation where one comes out with the big idea and <v Speaker 2>the other one comes out and iterates it in a <v Speaker 2>way that it can create its own path. Am I <v Speaker 2>saying that I think Reforge will eventually surpass Minecraft like PUBG, <v Speaker 2>like Fortnite Service pubg. No, absolutely not. But if the <v Speaker 2>two of them can offer enough of a different experience, <v Speaker 2>or enough of a unique experience that players can either <v Speaker 2>choose one or play both and get what they want, <v Speaker 2>that could be cool. Well we'll see, but I'm not <v Speaker 2>entirely sure that that's going to happen. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's you know, I'm wondering if this is the <v Speaker 1>case that the four J spent all those years making <v Speaker 1>the console versions of Minecraft, and then when Bedrock Edition <v Speaker 1>came out, which was the unified version that they've made <v Speaker 1>specifically to have it be the same on PC and <v Speaker 1>on console, and it'say, well, we don't need four J anymore. <v Speaker 1>I did not pay attention. If that was the case. <v Speaker 1>It sounds like that must be what happened here though, <v Speaker 1>And so the studios are like, well, we have all <v Speaker 1>this experience making Minecraft stuff. <v Speaker 3>Let's just take that and go. <v Speaker 1>And you know, at the end of the day, what <v Speaker 1>are the expectations here for this project from them? They <v Speaker 1>aren't expecting it to surpass Minecraft. They're like, hey, it <v Speaker 1>would be cool if we could sell you know, one <v Speaker 1>hundred thousand copies or something like that, and then you know, <v Speaker 1>keep the studio going at that point and then just <v Speaker 1>how consistently from that point going forward, Like, Yeah, that <v Speaker 1>sounds plausible. I do think you can make something like <v Speaker 1>that happen. <v Speaker 2>That's another thing too, we're comparing it to one of <v Speaker 2>the largest video game properties in the entire world. So <v Speaker 2>if we're trying to say that it's going to be Minecraft, <v Speaker 2>that's never ever, ever going to happen. But if they <v Speaker 2>can carve out their own little niche and get the <v Speaker 2>you know, the the regular players of fifty to one <v Speaker 2>hundred thousand at a time and they just have their <v Speaker 2>own little community and do their own thing in their <v Speaker 2>corner of the Internet. There are plenty of games doing <v Speaker 2>that right now that I probably don't remember, and you <v Speaker 2>can't think of r They just they're just there. They're <v Speaker 2>just existing in their own little world. The developers are <v Speaker 2>able to sustain themselves, the game, the players are having <v Speaker 2>a good time and they're just existing. Trove comes to mind, <v Speaker 2>and Troves like to see how I was going that <v Speaker 2>that game is still around. I still get press releases <v Speaker 2>for trove every once in a while, so they're still <v Speaker 2>doing in their thing. H If this can fit in <v Speaker 2>there and and and establish its own little little name <v Speaker 2>for itself, great. I hope it works out for them. <v Speaker 2>It'd be real weird though, if Microsoft would ever come <v Speaker 2>back knocking, wouldn't And I assume they're don't. Once they're done, <v Speaker 2>they're done. But if they ever needed them again, and <v Speaker 2>now they're making their own thing, what do you say, Sorry, <v Speaker 2>you got to go over there, We can't help you anymore. <v Speaker 2>How does that work? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? I mean maybe and maybe it is how it works. <v Speaker 1>Uh, you know it so does sound like they were <v Speaker 1>on the old console versions and they have not been <v Speaker 1>doing anything for Microsoft and Minecraft for the bed reck <v Speaker 1>ndition of the game, which is now what is on console. <v Speaker 1>And but they did they did do some like DLC <v Speaker 1>for for Minecraft. <v Speaker 2>Uh. <v Speaker 3>And I think that that they probably did, like, look <v Speaker 3>at it, be like we could do that. <v Speaker 1>But now we're competing with this Minecraft marketplace that has <v Speaker 1>a million user created options and so we're just gonna <v Speaker 1>get buried under that and uh, and so the return <v Speaker 1>on investment is going to be low. This probably was <v Speaker 1>the right move for them to just go out on <v Speaker 1>their own and say goodbye to Microsoft and Microsoft's cutting <v Speaker 1>off contracts. Anyhow So if they didn't do it at <v Speaker 1>that point, they probably would have done it by now. <v Speaker 1>So I got yelled at in chat Edinburgh Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Edinburgh. <v Speaker 3>Something like that is one of the ways we spell <v Speaker 3>Burgh in this country. <v Speaker 1>Guy, Soburgh, It's not Pittsburgh, although they. <v Speaker 2>Say yins though. So Also Chat also points out in <v Speaker 2>order to work this game will need a royalty free <v Speaker 2>chicken jockey. May I suggest rooster Rider? There it is there? <v Speaker 1>You goeah, yeah, all right, let's keep going here. Balder'sgate <v Speaker 1>four dev is still a mystery, but new studio will <v Speaker 1>make a Star Wars Jedi inspired D and D game. <v Speaker 1>This is from Darren Bontheus at GameSpot. Baldersgate three was <v Speaker 1>one of the biggest games of twenty twenty three, and naturally, <v Speaker 1>Wizards of the Coast wants to follow it up with <v Speaker 1>a sequel. We already know that the developer behind Balderskate three, <v Speaker 1>Larry and Studio, is moving on to a new, unrelated project, <v Speaker 1>and Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that the new studio, <v Speaker 1>being led by former Respawn Entertainment game director Stig Asmussen <v Speaker 1>Giant Skull won't be working on it either. Instead, players <v Speaker 1>can expect something more action packed from the newly established <v Speaker 1>studio Aldersgate. Is an incredible game, Wizards of the Coast <v Speaker 1>president John Hite said to the games business, shout outs <v Speaker 1>to them over there, the game business, excuse me, not games. <v Speaker 1>That's Chris String's thing, and it's very good, and of <v Speaker 1>course we're going to do a successor. This is not <v Speaker 1>the successor to that game. We go to Stig and <v Speaker 1>his team to tell an incredible story and bring Dungeons <v Speaker 1>and Dragons to a very broad audience. Ideally the game <v Speaker 1>will appeal to Dungeons Dungeons and Dragons players because it <v Speaker 1>will help them realize their imagination. <v Speaker 3>But it's also going to. <v Speaker 1>Hopefully appeal to people that love playing action games, that <v Speaker 1>love the Jedi games, that love God of War games. <v Speaker 1>That's Stig did Star Wars Jedi one and two. He <v Speaker 1>also did God of War three or two. He did <v Speaker 1>one of those, I can't remember. <v Speaker 3>Either way. Yeah, was David Jeffy did the first one, <v Speaker 3>then Corey Barlog did. <v Speaker 1>Y yeah, and then he came back and did all <v Speaker 1>of them since and Stick Asmussen was in there. He <v Speaker 1>did three thank You, Thank You like Carol, Olearry and Chat. <v Speaker 1>Either way, he's got a pedigree. He knows what he's doing, <v Speaker 1>bringing him to make one of his games in the <v Speaker 1>D and D space and being like at Star Wars <v Speaker 1>Jedi inspired, which is you know, from soft inspired. That's <v Speaker 1>something that sounds like it fits pretty well with Dungeons <v Speaker 1>and Dragons. But I do always worry when I hear <v Speaker 1>a person in a business role talking about trying to <v Speaker 1>reach a broad audience after they had a very specific <v Speaker 1>thing break out into a broader audience in Balder's Gate three. <v Speaker 1>It's like, no, you didn't have to like try to <v Speaker 1>make a broadly appealing thing to do exactly what you're <v Speaker 1>trying to do here? <v Speaker 3>Are you did you not learn the right lesson? Or <v Speaker 3>is this going to be something different? <v Speaker 1>I'll say it right now, I'm probably mean into this <v Speaker 1>is just something different. <v Speaker 3>They're gonna be fine. <v Speaker 1>They they do understand the success of Balder's Gate three, <v Speaker 1>But maybe that's giving too much credit to business people <v Speaker 1>at a company. Did do you do you understand my <v Speaker 1>concerns there? <v Speaker 2>I do, but I think what you have to do <v Speaker 2>here at least based on the way I read this <v Speaker 2>article is you have to detach Balder's Gate from Dungeons <v Speaker 2>and Dragons. You have to make them Balder's Gate three <v Speaker 2>was its own thing, just happened to be in the <v Speaker 2>Dungeons and Dragons universe. This is going to be a <v Speaker 2>souls like from Soft Star Wars Jedi in the Dungeons <v Speaker 2>and Dragons universe, which frankly is fertile ground. <v Speaker 4>Really obvious idea At a certain point, it makes it <v Speaker 4>a lot of sense. You have all the different classes <v Speaker 4>that you can make the classes fit right into that <v Speaker 4>from soft portfolio or formula. Excuse me, there's a humongous <v Speaker 4>world in these books that you could turn into a <v Speaker 4>humongous world on your screen, which some games have done before. <v Speaker 4>You have a full book of monsters or creatures or <v Speaker 4>what have you. In the beastiary. You could even pull <v Speaker 4>from other Dungeons and Dragons adjacent properties if you want to. <v Speaker 4>And know that's not just me saying I want a <v Speaker 4>Magic the Gathering from soft game, but it would be fun. <v Speaker 4>Don't shake your head. It's a it's a very cool ip. <v Speaker 2>When they're using their own world at borrowing from other places. <v Speaker 1>You never do againion dollars with Final Fantasy. <v Speaker 2>Oh, speaking of, I need to talk to Jan about <v Speaker 2>Avatar after this. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>I think I think the idea is sound, but they <v Speaker 2>have to get the messaging out that because this is <v Speaker 2>Dungeons and Dragons, it cannot you cannot associate it with Balder'sgate. <v Speaker 2>We are not making a Baldersgate for here. It's not <v Speaker 2>going to be that format. It's going to be more <v Speaker 2>like this and if if that is something that they <v Speaker 2>can do through gameplay or or what have you, then <v Speaker 2>I think people might be a little more enthusiastic about <v Speaker 2>the idea. To your greater point, though, yes, I do <v Speaker 2>think this is a case of a businessman mixing up <v Speaker 2>the message, which would be you know, par for the course. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, yeah, oh for sure. <v Speaker 2>Uh so, Yeah, I am. Since it's initial announcement, I <v Speaker 2>have been pretty high on this idea, but I think <v Speaker 2>they have to get out of their own way and <v Speaker 2>just let Stack in his team make the damn game <v Speaker 2>and then start talking about it when it comes out. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, game board chats don't call it Boulder Skate for Yeah, <v Speaker 1>there's no chance. They probably don't even use the Balldersgate <v Speaker 1>name on this this is gonna be a I guess <v Speaker 1>we say there's no chance of that. <v Speaker 3>Boulders Kate three did sell very well, so do. <v Speaker 1>They be like Bulder Skate Action or something like that. <v Speaker 1>Bolder Skate Heroes is what he suggests here. I guess <v Speaker 1>the chance they want to capitalize on that name, but <v Speaker 1>it's probably a really stupid move. <v Speaker 3>But I don't right now. <v Speaker 2>You can't, You can't, You got you? There are There <v Speaker 2>are way too many planes or places in the Judgons <v Speaker 2>and Dragons universe that you could use to avoid that pitfall. <v Speaker 2>I would say never Winter, but that's been used to <v Speaker 2>I'm not very familiar with D and DA admittedly, but <v Speaker 2>I'm sure there is a way that they can figure <v Speaker 2>out a place or or a part of the Dungeons <v Speaker 2>and Dragons canon that they can focus on that has <v Speaker 2>nothing to do with Balder's Gate in the title. You <v Speaker 2>may want to go to Balder's Gate as a location, <v Speaker 2>that's fine, but keep it out of the title, keep <v Speaker 2>it out of the market, and keep it out of <v Speaker 2>the whatever water teep. That's a good one. There. You <v Speaker 2>go something something, And then if you want to bring <v Speaker 2>in those characters, perhaps like a Carlac or an Asterian. <v Speaker 2>It's a cameo that could be fun, but you have <v Speaker 2>to make sure that the messaging is separate. This is <v Speaker 2>not a Baldersgate successor. It's its own thing in the <v Speaker 2>same universe. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's keep moving here. Katziro Herada doesn't expect <v Speaker 1>techn Tag Tournament three to ever become a reality, but <v Speaker 1>it's not all bad news there. This is from Ben <v Speaker 1>Lyons at Game Reactor. The techn series is one of <v Speaker 1>the longest running series in the video game world, with <v Speaker 1>it being a fighting epic that holds a Guinness World <v Speaker 1>Record for having the longest continuous story. <v Speaker 3>Two. That's I'm sure that's real. So Tommy Tella Rico <v Speaker 3>write it. Yeah. <v Speaker 1>There have been eight mainline installments and countless spinoffs. <v Speaker 3>Two in Following the. <v Speaker 1>Arrival of the well received Tech and Eight, fans are <v Speaker 1>wondering if we'll ever see a major return to the <v Speaker 1>spinoff format. Specifically, many are hoping that a third Tech <v Speaker 1>and Tag Tournament will be made at some point, but <v Speaker 1>this seems incredibly unlikely, especially when considering producer and executive <v Speaker 1>game director Katsihiro Herada's recent comments to Destructoid. The Tech <v Speaker 1>and Veteran has stated that we shouldn't expect Tech and <v Speaker 1>Tag Tournament three because it frankly doesn't make sense anymore. <v Speaker 1>He notes that it'd be more fitting to feature that <v Speaker 1>as a mode in an existing or future mainline installment instead, <v Speaker 1>as otherwise we probably shouldn't expect Tag Tournament to return <v Speaker 1>in this developer's lifetime. There's a quote here it's quite <v Speaker 1>difficult because you know, tag is something I've always thought <v Speaker 1>of more recently, and I feel like it should be <v Speaker 1>some kind of mode within a tech and nine or <v Speaker 1>eight or whatever you want to call it. Karata continues, <v Speaker 1>if we start now to make a tech and Tag <v Speaker 1>Tournament three, by the time that that they're by that time, <v Speaker 1>they're going to be no longer popular, that's what Tag three. <v Speaker 1>That's when Tag three would come out. He's like worried <v Speaker 1>that this is a current trend. He's probably probably right on, <v Speaker 1>Like when you compare it to the other games, there's <v Speaker 1>a lot of tag games coming out right around now, <v Speaker 1>and it does feel like the current fad. But that <v Speaker 1>I mean to me, that says like there's a chance, <v Speaker 1>like when you actually release it, it'll be because there <v Speaker 1>had been a dearth of tag games because they all <v Speaker 1>just came out a few years ago, but maybe people <v Speaker 1>will still be over at that point. <v Speaker 3>It's hard to predict either way. Okay, a mode in. <v Speaker 1>Tech In that serves the tag functionality? Does that sound <v Speaker 1>like enough for people who want this? <v Speaker 2>I mean, it's better than nothing, but right, I mean, <v Speaker 2>I don't. I don't. I don't think I kind of <v Speaker 2>agree with him here, Like I tech In Tag Tournament <v Speaker 2>two was great, but I don't think even if you <v Speaker 2>look at it from a purely what has been added <v Speaker 2>to the franchise since Tag Tournament two not a whole lot, right, <v Speaker 2>Like you could people might want a Tag Tournament three <v Speaker 2>because it kind of feels like the gang's all here, <v Speaker 2>everybody's here sort of tech and experience. But I don't <v Speaker 2>know that that's enough to make an entire game based <v Speaker 2>on the tag format unless you start doing the teams <v Speaker 2>of three or iterating in that way, having it as <v Speaker 2>its own separate mode, kind of like how tech and <v Speaker 2>Ball is in eight and how Bowl was in seven. <v Speaker 2>That I think does make more sense to me. That way. <v Speaker 2>It's there those people are satisfied, but it's also part <v Speaker 2>of the core experience for those who want the core <v Speaker 2>experience it's a weird little balancing act you'd have to do. <v Speaker 2>But I think that if you're going to get tag <v Speaker 2>in check tech and once again, the best chance you <v Speaker 2>have is this putting it in a new mainline game <v Speaker 2>or somehow making it a DLC mode for eight and <v Speaker 2>not its own. Do not expect its own standard thing, <v Speaker 2>because it'll never happen. Also, I wouldn't expect it in <v Speaker 2>Tech and eight either, because that game has more than <v Speaker 2>enough issues anyway that they have to fix before they <v Speaker 2>can worry about making a brand new mode for it. <v Speaker 2>Put those fires out, maybe as like the last DLC <v Speaker 2>or what have you. Maybe, but I like the idea <v Speaker 2>of having a separate tag mode in nine. It gives it. <v Speaker 2>I loved the tag games Tag one n Tag two. <v Speaker 2>We're great iterations on Tech in, which I've been playing <v Speaker 2>since Tech and two in the mid nineties. So if <v Speaker 2>they want to find a way to shoehorn it into <v Speaker 2>an existing mainline game, great, But you're gonna have the <v Speaker 2>people who are like, but all these weird characters aren't there. <v Speaker 2>You're just using the roster from the game that's already out. <v Speaker 2>Well yeah, no, duh. They're not going to add like <v Speaker 2>weird one offs like Eliza from seven, just so they <v Speaker 2>can say she's in a tag game. You're going to <v Speaker 2>use the roster they've already made, and the game probably <v Speaker 2>better off four it anyway, So yeah, I'm fine with it. <v Speaker 1>The reason that this just seems like a little bit <v Speaker 1>far fetched to me is just because, well, does this <v Speaker 1>seem farfetching in the fact that maybe they put a tag <v Speaker 1>mode in, but it's so bare bones that it's not <v Speaker 1>really what anyone wants, you know. The tag games to <v Speaker 1>me is like, you want to see cool stuff happening <v Speaker 1>between your team as you're playing the game. You want <v Speaker 1>them to have bespoke interactions depending on your team makeup <v Speaker 1>and things like that, and it. <v Speaker 3>Just sounds like a lot of work for just a mode. <v Speaker 1>Now, let's say Tech and nine comes out, It's like <v Speaker 1>Tech and nine, here's our base fighter, and we're making <v Speaker 1>a really big deal out of the fact that there's <v Speaker 1>also a tag mode in there. If they do it <v Speaker 1>that way, then I could see them being like doing <v Speaker 1>the heavy lifting required to actually make that thing feel <v Speaker 1>like a real tag mode. Otherwise it's probably just be like, oh, <v Speaker 1>you're just swapping one character in out for another and <v Speaker 1>I guess that's technically a tag mode, but it's not what. <v Speaker 3>Really anyone means. <v Speaker 1>I never played much tag tournament though, so I don't <v Speaker 1>know exactly what that audience wants. <v Speaker 2>And frankly, if they're going to build a brand new <v Speaker 2>tag game from scratch, I don't think it should be teken. <v Speaker 2>You have an entire franchise with weapons sitting over here <v Speaker 2>called Soul Caliber that would benefit funder Mega. <v Speaker 3>Mix bringing all your bullshit into one game, the. <v Speaker 2>Exact game, but only if the Day two in the <v Speaker 2>USA car is in it. I won't sharerow that unless <v Speaker 2>Hornet is there or Bean, the random mascot with the <v Speaker 2>with the sombrero. That that that's a weird ass game. <v Speaker 2>I love it, but it's so. <v Speaker 1>Weird yep, excit mean, I haven't played it forever. I <v Speaker 1>should go back and check it out. Uh, last story here. <v Speaker 1>Resident Evil Reboot movie has now started filming in Prague. <v Speaker 3>This is for my Nintendo News. <v Speaker 1>The intriguing Resident Evil Reboot movie has started filming in <v Speaker 1>the streets of Prague, with the film set for release <v Speaker 1>in September twenty twenty six. The movie will turn away <v Speaker 1>from the intense action focus of previous movies, and will <v Speaker 1>instead op for a darker and more sinister tone resembling that. <v Speaker 3>Of the original PlayStation games. <v Speaker 1>The Resident Evil reboot movie will follow one main character, <v Speaker 1>with the storyline gradually descending into quote deeper into hell. <v Speaker 1>Austin Abrams is tipped to have the main role in <v Speaker 1>the eagerly anticipated movie. <v Speaker 3>It's one of those where it's like, yeah, I'm. <v Speaker 1>Sure they're making another Resident Evil. At some point it's like, <v Speaker 1>oh no, this thing started filming. It's director Zach Craig <v Speaker 1>greg I can't remember Craiger, thank you. Yes, he just <v Speaker 1>did Weapons. He previously did Barbarian. He's the whitest kid, <v Speaker 1>you know. We talked about this on yesterday. Yeah, but <v Speaker 1>he's uh, he's from whitest kids, you know. And he <v Speaker 1>is in my favorite sketch of all time as my <v Speaker 1>favorite character in that sketch Abraham Lincoln, who is disrupting <v Speaker 1>the play and that's the real reason that John Wilkes <v Speaker 1>Booth beat him to death with a hammer to the ass. <v Speaker 2>That's the only sketch I've ever seen. <v Speaker 1>You don't need you don't need to see the athough <v Speaker 1>there is a lot of Murches is funny Yeah, he <v Speaker 1>is Abraham Lincoln in that. <v Speaker 3>Now he's directing Resident Evil. Uh. <v Speaker 1>I'm curious about this that you know, we talked about <v Speaker 1>on the BombCast yesterday. One of the other tidbits that <v Speaker 1>has come out is that it's not going to follow <v Speaker 1>any of the characters from the games, because they said, <v Speaker 1>if you want that, go play the games. It's going <v Speaker 1>to be another story in this universe. I'm split on that. <v Speaker 1>I you know, I don't want it to be the <v Speaker 1>oc kind of character from Mortal Kombat. <v Speaker 3>I really actually did not like Cole. I thought that <v Speaker 3>was a bad choice. <v Speaker 1>If it feels like that, then I'll feel the same <v Speaker 1>way about this. But you know, if it feels like no, <v Speaker 1>this is just an addition to the ongoing story of <v Speaker 1>Resident Evil. But for the movie, we're over here with <v Speaker 1>this character and all the stuff that's happened elsewhere. Although <v Speaker 1>a bunch of crazy shit has happened in that series, <v Speaker 1>so it'll be difficult to keep up with. But if <v Speaker 1>it feels that way, where it's like, no, if we <v Speaker 1>were doing a video game, we might use this character <v Speaker 1>in the same way that this movie's using the character. <v Speaker 3>I think it can work, But you know, I may maybe. <v Speaker 1>I just trust this director now and I'm willing to <v Speaker 1>see where he's going to go with it. How do <v Speaker 1>you feel about any of the Resident Evil movies and <v Speaker 1>how do you feel about this new one. <v Speaker 2>I kind of like the idea of him taking his <v Speaker 2>own little crack at it, right because people are going <v Speaker 2>to have expectations with known characters, and if he wants <v Speaker 2>to get his foot in the door with an original story, <v Speaker 2>prove that he can add to the Resident Evil universe <v Speaker 2>in a meaningful way, and then maybe try something with <v Speaker 2>an established character, I think that's a safe way to <v Speaker 2>go about it, because as critically acclaimed as Barbarian and <v Speaker 2>Weapons are or were, his style is not for everyone. <v Speaker 2>I know people who are major horror fans who thought <v Speaker 2>by Barbarian was not good haven't gotten their their their <v Speaker 2>opinion on weapons yet. So I don't. I don't. I <v Speaker 2>get the I get the idea, I get the focus, <v Speaker 2>I get the approach to it. I think it's smart, <v Speaker 2>especially with a franchise as beloved as Resident Evil. But <v Speaker 2>I also kind of see the man, why can't you <v Speaker 2>just use Leon or Chris or what have you, because <v Speaker 2>also too, then are you telling a brand new story <v Speaker 2>within the current universe with those characters or you, and <v Speaker 2>then then you have to worry about making sure it <v Speaker 2>fits and everybody has a place in the established canon. <v Speaker 2>Plus so I get it. I get this is the <v Speaker 2>least complicated way to dip your toe into the franchise. <v Speaker 2>And if you want to throw a Leon or a <v Speaker 2>Claire in the background, then great. <v Speaker 1>Maybe you know, at the beginning of the movie, at <v Speaker 1>like the end of the first act, when the character <v Speaker 1>gets like sent deeper into hell, it's like, Nope, you're <v Speaker 1>not gonna get out of this at this point. <v Speaker 3>You're going deeper. Now it's gonna get worse from you. <v Speaker 1>At that point, you have a Leon or someone show <v Speaker 1>up and be like, yeah, I've been through this shit. <v Speaker 1>Now you got to go at good luck, here's a <v Speaker 1>go go do your thing. <v Speaker 2>Or if it's a prequel, prequel, you make that person Wesker. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>and at the end Wesker kills the hero and yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's just part of his villain's driven. That could be interesting. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, there's a lot of options here. <v Speaker 1>I'm yeah, I if Wesker shows up, which seems likely <v Speaker 1>that I think people will be like, Okay, this doesn't <v Speaker 1>feel like a completely disconnected thing. <v Speaker 3>It'll be just fine. <v Speaker 1>Also that Abraham Lincoln sketch best line delivery listen to <v Speaker 1>the woman John. I think that plays in my head <v Speaker 1>in a loop. And then actually, now as I've watched <v Speaker 1>that sketch a million times over the play Hamlet, which <v Speaker 1>is apparently now about vampires, that's the funnier part. Now <v Speaker 1>when the guy gets stabbed and just goes shit, that's <v Speaker 1>good stuff. <v Speaker 2>One other carry out to this September twenty twenty six, <v Speaker 2>I would that's are they trying to meet up with <v Speaker 2>Resident Evil nine here? And that's February. But maybe that's <v Speaker 2>why it seems a little sooner than we thought. They're <v Speaker 2>trying to capture that, being in the same year. <v Speaker 3>They'm multifaceted there. <v Speaker 1>I think, yes, that they do want to have a <v Speaker 1>Resident Evil in the second part of the like right <v Speaker 1>they have Residevil game early part of the year, and <v Speaker 1>then as people are buying that, playing it very in <v Speaker 1>a resume evil mood, then you have a movie ready <v Speaker 1>to go for around Halloween later that year. <v Speaker 3>Yes, that's big thumbs up. <v Speaker 1>Also, the whole reasoning mccorn film is that they are <v Speaker 1>affordable simp relatively simple to make and you could get <v Speaker 1>them done quickly. You can focus on like practical effects <v Speaker 1>or whatever and maybe make stuff so you can do <v Speaker 1>it pretty quickly. That's the whole reason you get into <v Speaker 1>that genre in the first place. So I think they're <v Speaker 1>trying to take advantage of that, like, let's get this <v Speaker 1>movie made and out in a reasonable amount of time. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, cool, I'm looking forward to it. <v Speaker 2>Chat also reminds me it's thirtieth anniversary next year, So <v Speaker 2>here you go. <v Speaker 3>That's a big part that makes sense to. <v Speaker 1>Okay, let's keep going here out of the headlines and <v Speaker 1>into the poll question from Monday. <v Speaker 3>Pull that up real quick. <v Speaker 1>We ask a poll question most of the days throughout <v Speaker 1>the week except for Friday. <v Speaker 3>Let's refresh. Oh, it's not going to refresh on me. <v Speaker 3>You can do this. There it goes all right. Are <v Speaker 3>you going to try? <v Speaker 1>And that's the new one. This is from Monday? Are <v Speaker 1>you going to get Battlefield six? <v Speaker 3>Yes or no? Sixty two percent said no, thirty eight <v Speaker 3>percent said yes. We'll see. <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna maybe ask this question again after this weekends <v Speaker 1>beta and see. <v Speaker 3>If that number goes up at all. <v Speaker 1>I wouldn't expect it to change drastically because people are <v Speaker 1>just flat out saying no, that's because they're not going <v Speaker 1>to try the beta. But thirty eight percent, it's probably <v Speaker 1>much higher than what would have been before this most <v Speaker 1>recent beta. <v Speaker 3>I'm going to get it, and I'm going to try it. <v Speaker 1>I'm going to play some of it, but I don't <v Speaker 1>expect it to become my new game the way a <v Speaker 1>Call Duty has in the past or anything like that. <v Speaker 2>Sure I will. I'll make my decision when I play <v Speaker 2>it this weekend. Well, like I guessaid, I didn't get <v Speaker 2>into the first weekend's beta, I'll try to get in <v Speaker 2>this this weekend and see how it goes. Not a <v Speaker 2>lot of beta's in the gild. <v Speaker 1>All right, that was last Monday's poll. We'll have a <v Speaker 1>new poll here in a second. Before you do that, <v Speaker 1>Jason Finelli, why don't you tell people where they can <v Speaker 1>find you on the internet what you have going on? <v Speaker 3>All that good stuff. <v Speaker 2>I am at Jasonfinelli dot com, on Blue Sky, Big Man, Finelle, <v Speaker 2>everywhere else. Just you know, be bopping along, like I said, <v Speaker 2>into summer, getting into the review season. Have a couple <v Speaker 2>have a game I'm playing right now for a review <v Speaker 2>that I'm that I'm looking forward to talking about next week. <v Speaker 2>Covered the Magic Avatar announcement yesterday. Like I said, Uh, <v Speaker 2>we have games colm coming up next week. I'm sure <v Speaker 2>I'll be covering that as well. Trying to think there's <v Speaker 2>any like particular projects that I want to hype up. <v Speaker 2>Not really not at the moment, just kind of doing <v Speaker 2>things as they come in, right. It's a it's a <v Speaker 2>the end of summer clean up, getting ready for school <v Speaker 2>to start, get back into some sort of routine that <v Speaker 2>or that that I can play my whole day around, <v Speaker 2>which would be nice. I do want to. I know <v Speaker 2>I mentioned this to you before we got on here, <v Speaker 2>but there's a there's a game I'm going to try <v Speaker 2>and play maybe on stream tonight, Point and Click adventure <v Speaker 2>on Steam called Wildwood Down by a Maryland studio called Crashable. <v Speaker 2>You play. It's set in northwet in Wildwood, New Jersey, <v Speaker 2>on the boardwalk, and you play as a character let <v Speaker 2>me get the pitch out, Okay, let them finish. You <v Speaker 2>play as a character who is looking searching for his <v Speaker 2>sister in this mystery game. The character has down syndrome. <v Speaker 2>Now when I say that, you immediately go, oh shit, <v Speaker 2>we're gonna you know, it's it's not gonna be really nice. <v Speaker 3>As a comedy. It's a comedy game, yeah, right, right, right. <v Speaker 2>But this character is based on, according to the backstory <v Speaker 2>of the studio, a very good friend of the developers <v Speaker 2>child a friend of the developers, and they got this <v Speaker 2>friend to voice the character. So I am not I <v Speaker 2>think we're going to be in a good, respectful place here. <v Speaker 2>It's not going to be punching down, and I am <v Speaker 2>excited to give it a shot. I might try and <v Speaker 2>stream it tonight for a couple of hours just to <v Speaker 2>see what it's like. And yeah, if you if you <v Speaker 2>want to search Wildwood down on steam Crash. <v Speaker 3>It looks fantastic as well, like it has a really <v Speaker 3>good visual style. <v Speaker 2>I'm gonna check this out. Yeah yeah, I think I'm <v Speaker 2>see see how it goes. Now, if you play it <v Speaker 2>and it's not your cup of tea, I do want <v Speaker 2>to preface I have not actually played it yet, so <v Speaker 2>uh sorry, But if you do like it, then you're <v Speaker 2>welcome and I'm glad I could enrich your life somehow. <v Speaker 3>Excellent. Alright, new poll question, are you gonna try drag <v Speaker 3>and Drive? Yes or no? Let's see what. <v Speaker 1>Let's see what people say. I'm interested, curious. I imagine <v Speaker 1>most people are gonna pass on this one. Twenty dollars though, <v Speaker 1>so and it's a switch to exclusive. I wonder if that, <v Speaker 1>like put gives it a little extra juice. Although that <v Speaker 1>doesn't feel like like what it like what it once was. <v Speaker 3>Right, there's plenty of just third party games or older games, <v Speaker 3>backward compatible games that people can try instead. <v Speaker 1>I feel like there was a time like, oh, a <v Speaker 1>new console got a new exclusive, and it's okay, but <v Speaker 1>it's only twenty dollars. <v Speaker 3>I think a lot of people would have just jumped <v Speaker 3>on it. <v Speaker 1>I don't no one played Survival Kids, which was the <v Speaker 1>other switch to exclusion. <v Speaker 3>Launch, So I bet that's gonna have a kind of <v Speaker 3>a similar fate. Yep, all right, we did that. <v Speaker 1>We'll get the results of that poll and talk about <v Speaker 1>it on Games Morning's here on Giant Bomb tomorrow, speaking <v Speaker 1>a Giant Bomb later, Today's. <v Speaker 3>Black Club, I'm gonna be playing trestpass. <v Speaker 2>Tune into Blight Club Grubs playing Tresper Trespasser's. <v Speaker 1>Jurassic Grub Jeff Passer begins today. Unfortunately, every time we <v Speaker 1>bring it up, they just say a million things that <v Speaker 1>are weird about this game and then laugh and I <v Speaker 1>don't understand any of it. <v Speaker 3>For some reason, I need a red marker. I have <v Speaker 3>to have a red marker. <v Speaker 1>And they're like, you'll understand why immediately, and I'm like, <v Speaker 1>what are you talking about? And I even got the <v Speaker 1>game up and running because I was steps what I <v Speaker 1>was supposed to do, because I gott make sure it's <v Speaker 1>gonna run. <v Speaker 3>It's an old PC game. I got it up and running. <v Speaker 1>So I saw it and I'm like, oh, it's I <v Speaker 1>didn't even realize that it's a first person game. <v Speaker 3>So I think I'm in I'm gonna be deep shit here. <v Speaker 2>I think I know what they're talking about. And I <v Speaker 2>am so excited to see your reaction to the realization <v Speaker 2>of what that is. I truly am not sure how <v Speaker 2>you're going to react to it, but whatever that reaction is, <v Speaker 2>it's going to be phenomenal. I can't wait. <v Speaker 3>Oh boy, all right, so that's happening. Take a loft <v Speaker 3>the calendar. What else we have going on here? Okay? <v Speaker 1>And we're doing that, so nothing else today except for <v Speaker 1>you know, we've had we will have a quick look <v Speaker 1>going up. <v Speaker 3>I believe Jan Is that ready for today? He says yep. <v Speaker 1>And then tomorrow we'll be back with another games morning <v Speaker 1>where we'll get the results of that poll. <v Speaker 3>A voice and OL dump. <v Speaker 1>Truck will happen, and then Friday we're gonna do License <v Speaker 1>to Thrill Fast. <v Speaker 3>Food Edition or just Food Edition. <v Speaker 1>We're gonna play some games based on various foods, and <v Speaker 1>then we'll do our upf with Dragon Drive. <v Speaker 3>All right, Jason, thank you so much training that with <v Speaker 3>me today and talk about video games. Man. I really <v Speaker 3>appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>Of course, this is exactly what I needed. I appreciate you. <v Speaker 1>Thank you all for tuning in and listening. You are <v Speaker 1>the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a <v Speaker 1>good one, take care of yourself and goodbye. And shit, <v Speaker 1>I'm laiting late for an employment.
