<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, Welcome to Games Mornings with Me Jeff Greb,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're gonna be talking about a big
<v Speaker 1>upcoming PlayStation showcase getting confirmed, and we keep getting rumors
<v Speaker 1>about the next Xbox and PlayStation six even though no
<v Speaker 1>one wants those yet. It's gonna be a good one
<v Speaker 1>because we have Lexi Laddie on the show. Lexi, how
<v Speaker 1>are you doing, Bob?
<v Speaker 3>I did not sleep at all last night because I
<v Speaker 3>was writing a review, not the review that went up today,
<v Speaker 3>a review that's going up tomorrow. And so I've been
<v Speaker 3>pretty much been doing nothing but playing video games and
<v Speaker 3>writing reviews for like the last two weeks straight. And
<v Speaker 3>I'm very ready to play something that I don't have
<v Speaker 3>to think about for work. So I'm thinking about finally
<v Speaker 3>playing some N sixty four games and then oh no, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>and then getting mad again because I instantly am like,
<v Speaker 3>oh no, this is bad. Why am I doing this?
<v Speaker 3>How are you buff?
<v Speaker 2>I'm good? Uh? Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I also I played some IN sixty four games over
<v Speaker 1>the weekend a little bit. What I was God, I
<v Speaker 1>was just kind of dicking around on the three D
<v Speaker 1>the Analog three d uh. Still, I got that hooked
<v Speaker 1>up to the other TV over there, and that was
<v Speaker 1>a good time. I enjoyed myself. I played some Blitz
<v Speaker 1>because it was the Super Bowl.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, helped me get some d comp stuff working. So
<v Speaker 3>I've been messing around with that.
<v Speaker 2>Oh that's that's fun. That's a good way to do it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. I have to say, I really want to check
<v Speaker 3>out that Goie Moan d comp because that goiem On
<v Speaker 3>N sixty four game is one of the few N
<v Speaker 3>sixty four games. I look at him like, fuck yeah,
<v Speaker 3>hell yeah, everything about this rules.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I uh right. I like those older going on games.
<v Speaker 1>I played a little bit of the Super Nintendo or
<v Speaker 1>Super Fan of Calm ones every once in a while,
<v Speaker 1>like when I was messed around with emulators more back
<v Speaker 1>in the day. But I did actually play quite a
<v Speaker 1>bit of those N sixty four ones. So yeah, that's
<v Speaker 1>I need to spend more time because with the decomp stuff.
<v Speaker 1>Because that Mario sixty four, all those various mods and
<v Speaker 1>various versions, they're so well done.
<v Speaker 2>There's so much cool stuff in there. It's a really
<v Speaker 2>good time. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>We also I had a weird urge just to play
<v Speaker 3>some racing games recently, and so I played Need for
<v Speaker 3>Speed Most Wanted and I hung out with Raiser Callahan.
<v Speaker 3>Let me tell you that guy is still a dick.
<v Speaker 3>He's stole in my fucking car. Raser Calahan, I'm coming
<v Speaker 3>for you.
<v Speaker 1>I do you have a favorite Need for Speed or
<v Speaker 1>is just just like as you've gabbled in.
<v Speaker 3>I know it's pure nosalgia talking because it's the one
<v Speaker 3>that I got when I was thirteen and so, but
<v Speaker 3>Need for Speed Most Wanted the twenty twelve remake, I think,
<v Speaker 3>and it's a Criterion one. Yeah, that one. It's At
<v Speaker 3>the time I didn't even know what Burnout was, but
<v Speaker 3>going back to it now, I'm like, this is just
<v Speaker 3>another Burnout. This is awesome and yeah that game rules.
<v Speaker 3>And the original Most Wanted is pretty good too. I've
<v Speaker 3>been playing a bit of Unbound because that was on
<v Speaker 3>sale super cheap on Steam. Not bad, it's it's it's solid,
<v Speaker 3>it's fine.
<v Speaker 2>It's yeah, it's a good time. Like, yeah, it's sourd
<v Speaker 2>it's probably the probably the way to put it.
<v Speaker 3>I was wondering why it felt really bad and when
<v Speaker 3>I first loaded it up, and it turned out that
<v Speaker 3>I had a Steam input turned on and I was
<v Speaker 3>using a controller and whatever way the Steam input is
<v Speaker 3>set up. With that, it basically the analog stick turned
<v Speaker 3>into a digital control.
<v Speaker 2>Oh weird.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, so if I like tapped the analog stick at all,
<v Speaker 3>it was just one yeah, and so trying to drive
<v Speaker 3>it a mey fucking with any nuance was like, this
<v Speaker 3>feels fucking terrible. So I don't know what's up with that.
<v Speaker 3>You just have to turn off Steam input, which means
<v Speaker 3>you have to use an Xbox controller is the only
<v Speaker 3>supports and Xbox controller. But hey, that's fine.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's kind of that'll work, all right.

<v Speaker 2>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All Right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with Yakuza Kawami three and
<v Speaker 1>Dark Ties reviews. It has a seventy four on Open
<v Speaker 1>Critic seven out of ten from Miguel Moran at the
<v Speaker 1>at the six Axis, Yakuza Kawami three and Dark Ties
<v Speaker 1>is a combo of action adventures that longtime fans of
<v Speaker 1>the series will have hours of fun with the added
<v Speaker 1>gameplay features and altered visuals. Unfortunately, contrasts with the story
<v Speaker 1>experience in a way that doesn't feel as authentic to
<v Speaker 1>the original experiences as I would have liked. PlayStation universes.
<v Speaker 1>Michael Heridance gave it an eight out of ten and
<v Speaker 1>says Yakuza Kawami three and Dark Ties is a top
<v Speaker 1>notch package Bremming bringing some great new content with the
<v Speaker 1>Dark Tied side story worth the price of entry alone.
<v Speaker 1>There's some questionable changes in additions to Yakuza three that
<v Speaker 1>will irk some longtime fans, but overall this is a
<v Speaker 1>brilliant remake and easily the most ambitious in the series
<v Speaker 1>to date. And then Robert Ramsey a Push Square, gave
<v Speaker 1>it an eight out of ten and said, Yakuza Kawami
<v Speaker 1>three and Dark Ties is one hell of a package.
<v Speaker 1>Take it purely as an expanded remake. It's an absolute
<v Speaker 1>blast for both old and fans, old and new, but
<v Speaker 1>questionable changes to the story and its cast will inevitably
<v Speaker 1>stain the experience for plenty of people. It's such a
<v Speaker 1>shame that these unforced airs muddy the waters because we
<v Speaker 1>think I mean three is probably RGG Studio's best remake
<v Speaker 1>to date and one of the strongest titles in the
<v Speaker 1>series with regards to gameplay. If only we had a
<v Speaker 1>long time fan here to tell us about it.
<v Speaker 3>Oh, gub, have you have you looked at what my
<v Speaker 3>review is yet?
<v Speaker 2>I have not?
<v Speaker 1>No.
<v Speaker 3>Do you want to guess the score? It's one hundred
<v Speaker 3>point scale that game of Guys use, So.
<v Speaker 1>All right, I believe we're gonna come in hot on
<v Speaker 1>this one. I'm gonna say I'm gonna go with a sixty.
<v Speaker 3>Bit lower.
<v Speaker 2>Oh really, okay, fifty nine.
<v Speaker 3>I gave it a twenty. Oh boy, I I'm as
<v Speaker 3>a longtime fan of this series, playing this game was
<v Speaker 3>such a bomber. It was I've rarely felt so bummed
<v Speaker 3>out playing a game. Some of it the biggest the
<v Speaker 3>second biggest reason, because the biggest reason is that they
<v Speaker 3>cast a creep and that the way that they portray
<v Speaker 3>that creep is also kind of fucking upsetting, and the
<v Speaker 3>fact that that creep is going to maybe be an
<v Speaker 3>ongoing factor with the franchise because of the way that
<v Speaker 3>Yakuza four goes down, And that's obviously the biggest problem
<v Speaker 3>with the game. That is a reason a lot of
<v Speaker 3>like long time Yakuza fans aren't even buying this game.
<v Speaker 3>They're aren't interested in it. They feel kind of portrayed
<v Speaker 3>by the series and the principles that the series have
<v Speaker 3>kind of put themselves put itself forward as representing. The
<v Speaker 3>stuff that I can't talk about is the narrative changes,
<v Speaker 3>which mainly come later in the game. Boy oh boy,
<v Speaker 3>I will Yeah. The stuff that I can talk about,
<v Speaker 3>I think the combat is a really big downgrade from
<v Speaker 3>the usual fair They have implemented a new system called
<v Speaker 3>the R system, which is essentially a guard break. In reality,
<v Speaker 3>what that means is most enemies just have like a
<v Speaker 3>fifty percent damage reduction on any damage you do to them,
<v Speaker 3>and you will wail on them for about three quarters
<v Speaker 3>of their health until the awe break breaks and then
<v Speaker 3>you can finally actually damage them normally. And it's it's
<v Speaker 3>a slog. It's as someone who's played all those older games,
<v Speaker 3>it's the worst feeling combat outside of Dead Souls, and
<v Speaker 3>Dead Souls has its insane control scheme going on. As
<v Speaker 3>someone in chat says, block whos the three lives? Block
<v Speaker 3>Who's a three was an idea with Yakuza three where
<v Speaker 3>enemies blocked a lot, and so the community dubbed it blockooser.
<v Speaker 3>This seems to be like a really misguided attempt to
<v Speaker 3>like bring that back in some way and modernly.
<v Speaker 1>Because because they loved it. That's why, that's why I
<v Speaker 1>got the manager.
<v Speaker 3>I'll also say the side content in this game as
<v Speaker 3>someone who loves the side content in these games, as
<v Speaker 3>someone who did all of the side content in this game,
<v Speaker 3>who has put over sixty hours into this game for review,
<v Speaker 3>and it's some of the most repetitive that the series
<v Speaker 3>has ever had. The sub stories are like uniformly pretty
<v Speaker 3>mediocre in a series where substories are usually really fun
<v Speaker 3>and charming, and the bigger side activities which includes like
<v Speaker 3>kere You joining a biker gang and Kreu running the Orphanage.
<v Speaker 3>In the case of the Orphanage, it's all reused minigames
<v Speaker 3>from eachan which is fine that that was that farming
<v Speaker 3>minigame and echhan was pretty fun. But in the case
<v Speaker 3>of the biker gang stuff, it's really rough. It is
<v Speaker 3>on the same map over and over again. You do
<v Speaker 3>it like two dozen times, basically running through the same
<v Speaker 3>waves of enemies over and over and over and then
<v Speaker 3>dead souls or Dark Ties sorry. Dark Ties is the
<v Speaker 3>standalone prequel which focuses on Mena, which you know the
<v Speaker 3>movie Dracula Untold, Yeah, Yeah, And at the end of
<v Speaker 3>the Yeah, at the end of that movie, it goes
<v Speaker 3>from being like ooh, Dracula times whatever, castles and everything
<v Speaker 3>to modern day and it turns out that Child's Dance,
<v Speaker 3>who is the evil vampire in that movie, lived and
<v Speaker 3>so did Dracula. He also lived, and Child's Dances watching
<v Speaker 3>Dracula from Afar and he puts down his newspaper and
<v Speaker 3>he goes and let the games begin because they were
<v Speaker 3>trying to set up for like a big universe. Of course,
<v Speaker 3>that's what Dark Ties is, and it is it falls
<v Speaker 3>so in credibly flash and it's they've said that, like
<v Speaker 3>this was originally going to be a short animated film
<v Speaker 3>or something, you can tell. And the side content in
<v Speaker 3>this is even more repetitive. It's somewhere between a dungeon
<v Speaker 3>crawl minigame and an extraction thing, except there's no real
<v Speaker 3>incentive to everyone's extract early unless you run up against
<v Speaker 3>enemies that take so much damage that you literally can't
<v Speaker 3>damage to them down until you upgrade yourself, and so
<v Speaker 3>it just winds up that you were running around the
<v Speaker 3>same four dungeons for i'd say about five hours in
<v Speaker 3>that mainside actectivity in Dark Eyes. There's very few things
<v Speaker 3>in this game that I feel good about as a
<v Speaker 3>long term fan, because everything about this game feels like
<v Speaker 3>it is a step in the wrong direction for the series. Graphically,
<v Speaker 3>it's a big step down. There was a lot of
<v Speaker 3>unfinished assets. There's voids into nothing in key scenes atop
<v Speaker 3>the Millennium Tower, there's a lot of stuff where the
<v Speaker 3>Dragon engine, which is now ten years old, doesn't look
<v Speaker 3>any better than it did in twenty seventeen when Kwami
<v Speaker 3>two came out. In fact, in places it looks much worse,
<v Speaker 3>mainly in daytime, which is something that the engine has
<v Speaker 3>struggled with for a long time now, and especially since
<v Speaker 3>they started adding HDR to the games. It has really
<v Speaker 3>struggled with HDR balancing and that doesn't look great. And yeah,
<v Speaker 3>this game just doesn't seem like it was a priority ORGG.
<v Speaker 3>You're also working on Stranger than Heaven and Virtual Fighter,
<v Speaker 3>and you look at the credits of this game and
<v Speaker 3>a lot of outsourced studios are in it. There's much
<v Speaker 3>less ORGG representation there than there is, like Yukes worked
<v Speaker 3>on this game, so it seems like other teams were
<v Speaker 3>given tech that they probably weren't familiar with, and it
<v Speaker 3>shows in a lot of places. And on top of that,
<v Speaker 3>the writing choices, it feels like it has contempt for
<v Speaker 3>the original, Like the things that they change feel like
<v Speaker 3>someone really didn't like the original game, which is just
<v Speaker 3>kind of baffling when if you're a fan of the
<v Speaker 3>games and you've played it before and you think about
<v Speaker 3>some of the important moments in that game, the ways
<v Speaker 3>that they change, it just feel like someone came twenty
<v Speaker 3>years ago, got in an argument, lost the argument, and
<v Speaker 3>now they're like, I'm going to fix it. You know,
<v Speaker 3>the main guy's gone. Now I'm going to fix it.
<v Speaker 3>And this also happened with zero. So it's a thing
<v Speaker 3>that the It's the thing that the community has been
<v Speaker 3>very persistent on is that these changes feel frustrating.
<v Speaker 1>What was Yakuza three's sort of like how did fans
<v Speaker 1>view it at the time when it came out.
<v Speaker 3>At the time, it was divisive because one, it was
<v Speaker 3>kind of not many Western journalists played Yakuza two because
<v Speaker 3>it came out in two thousand and eight in the
<v Speaker 3>West on the PS two like right, no one played it,
<v Speaker 3>so there was a very small fan base, which meant
<v Speaker 3>that the people were viewing Yakuza three a lot of
<v Speaker 3>them hadn't played Yakuza two, and that game has quite
<v Speaker 3>a slow and deliberate pace. The first two chapters of
<v Speaker 3>it are basically you running the orphanage. That is something
<v Speaker 3>that what I played at the time, I was like,
<v Speaker 3>I don't like this. Looking back on it now having
<v Speaker 3>played four and five, so much of that stuff with
<v Speaker 3>the orphanage is so important to where that franchise goes
<v Speaker 3>and what it builds to that. It makes a lot
<v Speaker 3>of sense. This game makes the bizarre choice of padding
<v Speaker 3>out those two chapters, chapters two and three, with stuff
<v Speaker 3>that isn't the orphanage, stuff like it will be like, hey,
<v Speaker 3>go recruit ten people for your biker club. I don't
<v Speaker 3>fucking I don't care about my biker club. I don't.
<v Speaker 3>I really don't, And you can't progress the story until
<v Speaker 3>you do that. So yeah, I think that I expected
<v Speaker 3>this game to review a bit lower. I knew I
<v Speaker 3>was going to be on the low side, and I
<v Speaker 3>kind of expected that there would be a few more
<v Speaker 3>people who would be on the low side. I've talked
<v Speaker 3>to a few people who've played it and aren't reviewing
<v Speaker 3>it who feel quite similar to me. Of it's a
<v Speaker 3>real disappointed, like orgig have had such high standards for
<v Speaker 3>so long, and I just worry about where that studio
<v Speaker 3>is going.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, yeah, this is uh, you know, hopefully we
<v Speaker 1>could chalk it up to it being deprioritized, which is
<v Speaker 1>a shame in in and of itself, but it's like, Okay, well,
<v Speaker 1>let's see what happens with these other games that they're
<v Speaker 1>that they are prioritizing. Hopefully that's where the effort's going
<v Speaker 1>and will just be like, Okay, hopefully they could turn
<v Speaker 1>an eye back to the aquaza and fix things up
<v Speaker 1>here going forward. I think it looks like the review
<v Speaker 1>score is probably going to start trending downward.
<v Speaker 2>VGC gave it a two out of five.
<v Speaker 1>I guess someone and Chad just said, yeah, play Day one,
<v Speaker 1>which used to be Xbox Era they rebranded. Everybody in
<v Speaker 1>chat said they gave it a six point five. I
<v Speaker 1>think so, yeah, it's starting to trend a little bit lower.
<v Speaker 3>And I'll also say I've gone a few comments already
<v Speaker 3>of being like, oh, this is a troll with you.
<v Speaker 3>This is for like clicks or whatever. Like a view
<v Speaker 3>scale is there to be used. And this is something
<v Speaker 3>that I've advocated for a long time is if you're
<v Speaker 3>going to give me one hundred points on a scale,
<v Speaker 3>I'm going to use one hundred points on the scale.
<v Speaker 3>If there's certain scores that are off limits, what are
<v Speaker 3>we doing here? And I think it makes it that's
<v Speaker 3>a lot more justifiable in people's brains when they see
<v Speaker 3>something like a five point scale of you know, of
<v Speaker 3>course you can't have one star be off because you
<v Speaker 3>know that's that's a whole fifth of the scale, and
<v Speaker 3>then when you go into something like a ten point scale,
<v Speaker 3>people get very antsy when they see like two out
<v Speaker 3>of ten. But I think that like this review as
<v Speaker 3>much as anything else is like, it is meant to
<v Speaker 3>convey my feelings towards this game. That's all it's meant
<v Speaker 3>to do. Yes, And when I was done playing Yakuza
<v Speaker 3>Kwami three, I was left questioning why I liked this
<v Speaker 3>franchise so much.
<v Speaker 1>And I don't think twenty out of one hundred is
<v Speaker 1>too high. That's the damnage it.
<v Speaker 3>It was my Metroid Prime four, Yeah, okay, Like, and
<v Speaker 3>you know, I think and some people will give will
<v Speaker 3>say Metroid Prime four is a five out of five game,
<v Speaker 3>and that's okay, that's a okay, Like no one would
<v Speaker 3>say that, but like it really feels like the culmination
<v Speaker 3>of a lot of bad blood between ORGG and tech
<v Speaker 3>Desh and ongoing systemic issues with things that they haven't
<v Speaker 3>issuated on. I think I message Sean when I was
<v Speaker 3>reviewing this saying, like, I understand how Pokemon fans feel
<v Speaker 3>now because there's so much of I was messaging back
<v Speaker 3>and forth with Ash, who wrote the VGC review which
<v Speaker 3>you should go read of being like, I can't believe
<v Speaker 3>they still haven't addressed this thing. I can't believe they
<v Speaker 3>still have an address this thing. I can't and it
<v Speaker 3>is the Pokemon thing, like they still have an added
<v Speaker 3>voice acting. And that's what this feels like. It feels
<v Speaker 3>like everything catching up with them and the yearly release
<v Speaker 3>cycle catching up with them, and it's it's just a bummer.
<v Speaker 3>It's a real bummer.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. I'll tell you one thing about the review score.
<v Speaker 1>Once these people who are complained about the troller view,
<v Speaker 1>once they play the game themselves, guarantee many of them
<v Speaker 1>are going to come back and be like, this game
<v Speaker 1>reviewed way too high. I can't believe all these people
<v Speaker 1>gave it such high scores. That's been my experience over
<v Speaker 1>and over and over and over again.
<v Speaker 3>I can already see the reddit threads dedicated to like
<v Speaker 3>the exact stuff that I can't talk about, and people
<v Speaker 3>being like, I can't believe no one mentioned it in
<v Speaker 3>the reviews. Oh yeah, oh oh, how I would love to.
<v Speaker 2>You.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, you said said there's much stuff later that
<v Speaker 1>did bother you can't talk about, but that stuff is
<v Speaker 1>you would say, whether it's good or bad, right, like
<v Speaker 1>you're allowed to receive you feel bad.
<v Speaker 3>It's yeah, there are changes that are made to the
<v Speaker 3>story that are make the franchise's timeline no longer make
<v Speaker 3>sense in a very fundamental way, and also like just
<v Speaker 3>kind of undercush any narrawstive teeth that the series once had.
<v Speaker 3>And your cuz zero, I think I told you this
<v Speaker 3>before Yakuza Zero the director's cut that they released on
<v Speaker 3>Switch and added like four new cut scenes, and three
<v Speaker 3>of those four new cut scenes they retcon't characters deaths, right,
<v Speaker 3>Like three characters they were just like, actually they didn't die.
<v Speaker 3>He survived the car explosion. And it's not dissimilar to
<v Speaker 3>that where it's like, oh, any stakes that these games
<v Speaker 3>have basically mean nothing now because it's becoming very clear
<v Speaker 3>that none of this matters and there's no stakes to
<v Speaker 3>any of it, and it's just a real bummer.
<v Speaker 1>Well yep, that sounds like a shame. Hopefully, hopefully things
<v Speaker 1>can improve with future games. I'm still hopeful for what's
<v Speaker 1>what's Project Century called.
<v Speaker 3>Now Stranger than Heaven, and that is a game I
<v Speaker 3>really hope is good.
<v Speaker 2>I really hope.
<v Speaker 3>I am rooting for Virtue Fighter. They both look Killer,
<v Speaker 3>But right now it feels like the like a Dragon
<v Speaker 3>franchise is like not a pliality.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's keep going here. PlayStation state of Play
<v Speaker 1>confirmed for February twelve. Who could have guessed from Jackson
<v Speaker 1>Finelli at game Spot. After some rumors in the past
<v Speaker 1>couple of weeks that it was in the works, the
<v Speaker 1>first PlayStation PlayStation state of Play of twenty twenty six
<v Speaker 1>has been confirmed for February twelfth, at two pm Pacific
<v Speaker 1>time five pm Eastern. Let's see that is Thursday, right,
<v Speaker 1>Let's see Thursday. Yeah, well, we'll talk over that, everybody.
<v Speaker 1>We'll make that work. Official PlayStation social media accounts to
<v Speaker 1>confirm not only the date and timing of the event,
<v Speaker 1>but also that it will include sixty plus minutes of news,
<v Speaker 1>gameplay updates, and announcements from game studios across the globe.
<v Speaker 1>No word on what the sixty plus minutes will include,
<v Speaker 1>has or has Sony confirmed any third party studios will
<v Speaker 1>show up or anything like that. Yeah, okay, it's about time.
<v Speaker 1>This makes sense. This fits with how they've done things before.
<v Speaker 1>It does feel like we do need this state of play.
<v Speaker 1>I would amage men that this one is still not
<v Speaker 1>going to be like the PlayStation Showcase E three style thing,
<v Speaker 1>where it's just going to be a banger after banger.
<v Speaker 1>There will be a mix of you know, a lot
<v Speaker 1>of partner stuff. I'm sure there will be a long
<v Speaker 1>anime game block. There'll be a bunch of other stuff.
<v Speaker 1>I do expect them to have at least a couple
<v Speaker 1>of first party games, things that will be launching soon,
<v Speaker 1>and things that they can tease for the future, because
<v Speaker 1>you know, maybe I'm missing something like there's Wolverine, right,
<v Speaker 1>but what else do they have to tease right now?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah? I do you think that the God of War
<v Speaker 3>thing finally shows up? Is a time for that?
<v Speaker 2>Who could say?
<v Speaker 3>Who could say?
<v Speaker 2>Who could say?
<v Speaker 3>Who could say?
<v Speaker 2>I certainly could not. Yes, yeah, we.
<v Speaker 4>All have things this episode that we can't say. It's
<v Speaker 4>such a fun way to go about talking about things
<v Speaker 4>on a podcast. It is not being able to say things.
<v Speaker 4>Is there any like Pine the.
<v Speaker 3>Sky stuff that from Sony that you've been waged on
<v Speaker 3>that any like studio updates you want to hear, like
<v Speaker 3>Wolverine might get a new bit of info or something.
<v Speaker 1>You just like, like you shook it loose there by
<v Speaker 1>like mentioning the God of Wark thing, which is the
<v Speaker 1>two point five d metro Vania style thing that I
<v Speaker 1>talked about before. I have been craving the original God
<v Speaker 1>of War games. I would love for them to But
<v Speaker 1>you know the thing with that is, wasn't I think
<v Speaker 1>last year was the anniversary.
<v Speaker 3>It was yeah, people were like, it's happening, it's happening,
<v Speaker 3>and then it didn't happen.
<v Speaker 1>So the fact that it didn't happen then makes me
<v Speaker 1>worry that it's it's not gonna happen.
<v Speaker 3>But that's what I like. Now that the TV show
<v Speaker 3>is in production, I can totally you're someone at Sony
<v Speaker 3>being like, hey, TV shows in production, we gotta get
<v Speaker 3>these out because did you see what happened with Fallout?
<v Speaker 3>Did you see the bump those games? Gosh, and so
<v Speaker 3>could I could see it being more likely to happen now,
<v Speaker 3>or at least another meeting being a high and people
<v Speaker 3>making the point again are like, no, we should do this.
<v Speaker 3>I know it's a pain to get a PS three
<v Speaker 3>game running on anything, but like, we should do this.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I wonder how they'll you know, it sounds like
<v Speaker 1>they have a PS three emulator.
<v Speaker 2>Do they go that round and just collect them or
<v Speaker 2>do they sort of.
<v Speaker 1>Remake them slightly with like, you know, just keep those
<v Speaker 1>games the same, but just replace the visuals and then maybe, uh,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, the emphasize the threesomes. Where we at
<v Speaker 1>with with that sort of era of sexualization in video games?
<v Speaker 2>Is it sort of like going back to being kind
<v Speaker 2>of like, is that like dumb? Is it kind of
<v Speaker 2>Dude's rock? It's not, but it's like something.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's something nostalgic about it where it's like, God,
<v Speaker 1>we were so dumb, just leave it in there.
<v Speaker 3>So here, here's what I draw. There's there's an ear
<v Speaker 3>Ps three games where you're like, oh, fuck, yeah, this
<v Speaker 3>is dumb as shit. And then there's an ere Ps
<v Speaker 3>three games where you play that Twist and Metal Lee Boosh,
<v Speaker 3>And there's a Japanese roadster called the Kamakazi and it
<v Speaker 3>has a rising Sun flag on it, an imperial Rising
<v Speaker 3>Sun flag on it, and you're like, oh, oh, maybe
<v Speaker 3>some of these games don't need remakes. And you know,
<v Speaker 3>it's a very fine line that you have to walk.
<v Speaker 3>It's it's it's raisor's edge kind of stuff.
<v Speaker 2>I uh, yeah, I would like that. What move fair Games.
<v Speaker 2>This fair Games show up here.
<v Speaker 3>It's still Jay Raymond's no longer there, it's still live
<v Speaker 3>from last I heard.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe they maybe they wait until after Marathon happens.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think if Marathon comes out and it goes down, well,
<v Speaker 3>then suddenly they can be like fair Games, it's it's
<v Speaker 3>our next one game would also be good. But if
<v Speaker 3>Marathon comes out and it's bad or it doesn't hit,
<v Speaker 3>then that's going to be a problem. And so yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I don't know that's that's a good one. Obviously, the
<v Speaker 3>studios like Blue Point, but it seems like they had
<v Speaker 3>to start from scratch, not that long ago, Like a
<v Speaker 3>lot of the studios just feel like they're ways out,
<v Speaker 3>like in some or not in some Soccer Punch obviously
<v Speaker 3>now only just reloading, and they've made very clear the
<v Speaker 3>one studio game, And so yeah, I think this will
<v Speaker 3>be very partner heavy, which makes sense that they're positioning
<v Speaker 3>it as a state of play. So even if we
<v Speaker 3>had a few interesting partners reveals, like at the last
<v Speaker 3>state of play we got a Final Fantasy the Evil
<v Speaker 3>East Chronicles tactics, Like even if that's not the biggest game,
<v Speaker 3>that's a cool fucking game. It's a cool thing that
<v Speaker 3>they got made, and it's cool that it was like
<v Speaker 3>got a platform and it did pretty well. So like
<v Speaker 3>stuff like that, I'd be happy to see.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Marathon is out March fifth.
<v Speaker 1>Apparently people are excited about it pet now, I mean
<v Speaker 1>the tenor and chat its certainly changed as we brought
<v Speaker 1>that up there. People some like, oh, some time I
<v Speaker 1>played that, that was good. That'd be very interesting if
<v Speaker 1>that does pop off again. Yeah, Phantom Blade zero, we could.
<v Speaker 1>They've shown that at State of Place before. It does
<v Speaker 1>feel like that'll just show up again. Yeah, well we'll
<v Speaker 1>see an hour long it will probably have quite a
<v Speaker 1>bit in there.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, I'm nothing there that Jeff Bacla likes.
<v Speaker 2>Well, yeah, that'd be weird if it did. It'd be
<v Speaker 2>weird if there was something there that he enjoyed.
<v Speaker 3>That'd be unless like American mcgeese ls or something shows
<v Speaker 3>up that's like a game that he would love.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, just an American McGee head is what we call him.
<v Speaker 1>Uh all right, let's see, let's take a break, we'll
<v Speaker 1>come back. We'll talk about that Pokemon Super Bowl ad
<v Speaker 1>and some leaks from the Pokemon Company and a bunch
<v Speaker 1>more with the rest of the headlines. If you want
<v Speaker 1>to skip out on the ads we're about to go to,
<v Speaker 1>you can go to giant bomb dot com slash Join
<v Speaker 1>become a premium member. There you can find ad free
<v Speaker 1>versions of the audio and video show.
<v Speaker 2>Get that. In the meantime, we will be right back.
<v Speaker 2>We are back.
<v Speaker 1>It's Game Mess Mornings, Jeff grub Lexiluti. Let's continue on here.
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon super Bowl ad for thirtieth anniversary has a Lady
<v Speaker 1>Gaga singing the Jigglypuff song from Jason Finelli at GameSpot.
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon turns thirty this year, which is a fact that
<v Speaker 1>may turn many older gamers this writer. The writer of
<v Speaker 1>this article included into dust. The Pokemon company is gearing
<v Speaker 1>up for a big year of celebration, which has officially
<v Speaker 1>begun with a sixty second ad that aired during the
<v Speaker 1>Super Bowl. The commercial features international celebrities like Trevor Noah,
<v Speaker 1>Lady Gaga, Black Pink's Jiezu I'm sure I'm saying that wrong,
<v Speaker 1>and Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko, all sharing their favorite
<v Speaker 1>pocket monsters from across Pokemon's thirty year history. Lady Gaga
<v Speaker 1>notably chooses Jigglypuff and then proceeds to sing the Jigglypuff
<v Speaker 1>Lullaby right in the middle of the ad, adding Lady
<v Speaker 1>Gaga sings the Jigglypuff Lullaby to the list of things
<v Speaker 1>we thought we'd never see, this is the thing that
<v Speaker 1>they were teasing. We talked about it on some show
<v Speaker 1>last week. But hey, there's gonna be Pokemon stuff at
<v Speaker 1>the super Bowl. It was just always this thing here
<v Speaker 1>where celebrities are, you know, coming out there and talking
<v Speaker 1>about it. But it does feel like noteworthy that they
<v Speaker 1>had a Super Bowl ad.
<v Speaker 2>They had yeah, they had a presence.
<v Speaker 1>It does feel like this is signifying that they have
<v Speaker 1>a lot planned and maybe even some confidence in what
<v Speaker 1>they have going for them this year.
<v Speaker 2>Did you did you catch this ad? What'd you think
<v Speaker 2>of it?
<v Speaker 3>I'm going to defer to the expert on this one
<v Speaker 3>because he's in the call with us mainly, but I
<v Speaker 3>do have to say I really appreciate just having an
<v Speaker 3>ad that is like basically just the Pokemon company going
<v Speaker 3>Pokemon are pretty cool.
<v Speaker 2>Huh.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, that was like Pokemon like not selling anything, just
<v Speaker 3>being like these pretty cool John, what did you think
<v Speaker 3>of Lady Gaga?
<v Speaker 2>I love Lady Gaga. That's it.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, what do you think the Jigglypuff.
<v Speaker 1>M I think jan will have to be rerun over
<v Speaker 1>by the Pokemon company, and maybe there's a chance that
<v Speaker 1>gonna happen with the new Pokemon tenth gen games that
<v Speaker 1>are gonna launch this year. More than likely, and screenshots
<v Speaker 1>have leaked from that game. This is from my Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>news centro Leaks, who has been consistently publishing and uploading
<v Speaker 1>various bits of leak data from the Pokemon breach, has
<v Speaker 1>today uploaded some betas screenshots from the tenth generation Pokemon game,
<v Speaker 1>which we know is likely titled Pokemon Wind and Wave.
<v Speaker 1>These screenshots are clearly clearly early, and we're from a
<v Speaker 1>build dating back to July twenty twenty four. Naturally, the
<v Speaker 1>finished product should look remarkably better when it's revealed on
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon Day. Here's what's been leaked. There's a whole bunch
<v Speaker 1>of screenshots. Some of the screenshots are like unfinished buildings
<v Speaker 1>with like without textures, and you know what it looks.
<v Speaker 2>Like, Lexi Pokemon game. It looks like the last Pokemon game.
<v Speaker 1>This unfinished build here looks a lot like the last one.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, people to have a better understanding of
<v Speaker 1>these games than me have seemingly been looking at some
<v Speaker 1>of this stuff and feeling confident, feeling more like there's
<v Speaker 1>some interesting stuff. There's like an underwater area, maybe you
<v Speaker 1>go underwater and capture Pokemon down there. They're also I
<v Speaker 1>think they could look better. Also, this game apparently, you know,
<v Speaker 1>the documentation we've seen suggest it will be switched to exclusive,
<v Speaker 1>which at the very least means they'll be able to
<v Speaker 1>brute force some performance into this game. You know the
<v Speaker 1>recent Pokemon Legends Z.
<v Speaker 3>That's what you say, now, that's what you all say.
<v Speaker 2>Now.
<v Speaker 1>I think that it's still probably going to be like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>if you compare this to anything else, it is going
<v Speaker 1>to be real rough, but it'll be better than if
<v Speaker 1>it ran on the switch one A little bit surprising.
<v Speaker 1>They typically don't do that with the first big entry
<v Speaker 1>of a new generation on a new hardware. They kind
<v Speaker 1>of cross gen a little bit. They like to sell
<v Speaker 1>to the most people possible, but not this time around.
<v Speaker 3>Huge.
<v Speaker 1>I think that I'm sure that yeah, legends, Yes, I
<v Speaker 1>think that that would.
<v Speaker 3>Legends za yea.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's definitely part of it. I think the other
<v Speaker 1>part of it is they knew they had to sort
<v Speaker 1>of change things up because the last main the ninth
<v Speaker 1>Gen game was so poorly received in terms of its
<v Speaker 1>tech that they're like, we need to like improve things
<v Speaker 1>here a little bit, and uh, one of the one
<v Speaker 1>of the options available to them was, well, then let's
<v Speaker 1>not try to make it for the Switch one. Let's
<v Speaker 1>just make it for the switch to and kind of
<v Speaker 1>use that as the baseline, and that'll inherently make the
<v Speaker 1>game just look and run a better than it would
<v Speaker 1>have won the Switch one. Either way, this does feel
<v Speaker 1>like it's lining up to be uh, Nintendo's big game
<v Speaker 1>for the Switch to this holiday, And it really does
<v Speaker 1>feel like a statement for this for the Pokemon Company,
<v Speaker 1>where it's like, hey, have you figured this out or not?
<v Speaker 2>It's kind of now or never.
<v Speaker 1>I don't expect it to have like voice acting Lexi,
<v Speaker 1>but I do expect to like see a noticeably improved
<v Speaker 1>game versus the ninth Gen. Is that a fair expectation
<v Speaker 1>for the Pokemon Company and game.
<v Speaker 3>Freak Noticeable is such a strong word.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, there's a I think there's some wiggle rooming noticeable.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think this game will like be less instantly
<v Speaker 3>identifiable as subpar, you know, it will pass the sniff test.
<v Speaker 3>But I do think that Pokemon fans will continue to
<v Speaker 3>have the same problems that Pokemon fans have had with
<v Speaker 3>these games for a long time. And you know, there's
<v Speaker 3>just no it's not like their bad behavior has been
<v Speaker 3>you know, punished, like those games keep on selling. If anything,
<v Speaker 3>they're being.
<v Speaker 2>Rewarded for five million every time. Yep.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, so it's you know, it doesn't do them any harm.
<v Speaker 3>So why would they why would they change, Like if
<v Speaker 3>this was if they saw a decreased game over game
<v Speaker 3>and they were like, oh, clearly people are getting upset
<v Speaker 3>and not buying these Like no that they say though upset,
<v Speaker 3>but they're still buying them. They keep buying them.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I think you know what we always see
<v Speaker 1>with that is the next game, regardless of quality, sort
<v Speaker 1>of pays for it.
<v Speaker 2>I guess I don't maybe it was.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if it's possible to like glean that
<v Speaker 1>from Legends to Za from Legends two, because it's like
<v Speaker 1>that is off to the side, But it seemed like
<v Speaker 1>that game to just fine. If it was, if anything
<v Speaker 1>was gonna get hurt, it would definitely be this one,
<v Speaker 1>because it's like, yeah, I mean, jan here's written a note.
<v Speaker 2>I have no faith.
<v Speaker 1>I think there are some people who are once Pokemon
<v Speaker 1>diehards who feel that way.
<v Speaker 2>Will it be enough for that to be noticeable? We'll
<v Speaker 2>have to wait and see. You know.
<v Speaker 1>I remember, like you know, Assassin's Creed Unity doing just fine,
<v Speaker 1>and then it was Syndicate that was all by all accounts,
<v Speaker 1>a very good game when I never played, but I
<v Speaker 1>didn't play it for a reason. By all accounts, that
<v Speaker 1>was a very good game. And yet that one is
<v Speaker 1>the one that sold very poorly because it paid for
<v Speaker 1>unity sins.
<v Speaker 2>We'll see. I think you might still be right there.
<v Speaker 3>And as British people, which you enough.
<v Speaker 2>We just got just get out of my games right.
<v Speaker 3>Finally, an ally on Giant Bomb.
<v Speaker 2>I'm here for you.
<v Speaker 1>God, I think that you're probably right that even with
<v Speaker 1>all that said, we're probably viewing an audience for Pokemon
<v Speaker 1>games that does not care, and maybe even many that
<v Speaker 1>don't even know that these games have a bad reputation
<v Speaker 1>for performance and for just their tech.
<v Speaker 3>And like I do, I do genuinely love the fact
<v Speaker 3>that Pokemon games every single year at this point are
<v Speaker 3>basically that call of duty modern warfare, boycott Steam group
<v Speaker 3>and them all playing it like it's the best. It
<v Speaker 3>rules so much.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, that's basically Pokemon over and over again. You know
<v Speaker 1>that's it. They've said some they've gestured toward them improving
<v Speaker 1>this game. So I'm curious to see what that ends
<v Speaker 1>up looking like. I would like to get back into
<v Speaker 1>a Pokemon at some point too, like.
<v Speaker 3>The idea of Pokemon in fury. I love orpgs. I
<v Speaker 3>love like Little Freaks, I love like growing and fusing monsters.
<v Speaker 3>That sounds great. It'd be nice if one of those
<v Speaker 3>games felt worthwhile.
<v Speaker 2>I think, Zachi, Zach, you might have it in chat.
<v Speaker 1>It does feel like a lot of people matured up
<v Speaker 1>into the Persona franchise instead, and that's where they, like
<v Speaker 1>the Pokemon fans that got disillusioned went over there instead,
<v Speaker 1>and now they get to wait for those games to
<v Speaker 1>come out once every fifty five years or whatever.
<v Speaker 2>It is, all right, Moving.
<v Speaker 1>On, Disney's search for a new CEO disrupted gaming plans.
<v Speaker 1>Apparently this comes from Eddie McCoo at game Spot and
<v Speaker 1>also the screams of John Drake. The Walt Disney Company
<v Speaker 1>recently named a new CEO, Josh Diyamorro. And now it's
<v Speaker 1>been reported that the month's long search to find a
<v Speaker 1>new top executive disruptive plans for gaming. The Wall Street
<v Speaker 1>Journal reported that the plans for leadership change uh yeah.
<v Speaker 1>The reported the plans for leadership change at Disney made
<v Speaker 1>it difficult to make consequential decisions about Disney's future. This
<v Speaker 1>apparently impacted Disney's gaming plans specifically in recent months.
<v Speaker 3>Coke zero in the office and Drake just couldn't work.
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god.
<v Speaker 1>First of it's diet coke. Oh my god, coke sign
<v Speaker 1>on Instagram. John Drake pushed a fucking diet coke story
<v Speaker 1>and I liked it be I'm like, I'll engage with
<v Speaker 1>John Drake's addiction.
<v Speaker 2>It's funny whatever.
<v Speaker 1>Since then, I've gotten no less than twenty diet Coke
<v Speaker 1>influencers in my algorithm. Now this guy has poisoned my
<v Speaker 1>internet with his bad pass.
<v Speaker 2>Pertain and in recent.
<v Speaker 1>Months, executives have discussed potential partnerships with game companies, but
<v Speaker 1>shelved the topic until a new CEO started. The Wall
<v Speaker 1>Street Journal reported, citing a source with knowledge of the situation.
<v Speaker 1>No further details were divul but this comes after a
<v Speaker 1>report from twenty twenty three he said Disney was interested
<v Speaker 1>in pursuing a purchase of electronic arts. That didn't happen,
<v Speaker 1>and now EA's being bought for fifty five billion by
<v Speaker 1>a group of investors including Saudi Arabi's Arabias Piff. Dmorrow
<v Speaker 1>has along been a champion of gaming within Disney. He
<v Speaker 1>spearheaded Disney's one point five billion investment into Epic Games
<v Speaker 1>to make a quote transformational new games and entertainment universe.
<v Speaker 2>One of these projects.
<v Speaker 1>In one of these projects is the long in development
<v Speaker 1>Fortnite Cross Disney project, which still remains largely mysterious. Dmorrow
<v Speaker 1>has spoken very enthusiastically about growing Disney's business with gaming
<v Speaker 1>and by taking risks. Dmrrow currently runs disease Vast Disney
<v Speaker 1>Experience Teams, which operates with Park operates the parks and
<v Speaker 1>cruise units, as well as the consumer products and video games.
<v Speaker 1>He will officially become CEO in March. So it's like, okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>there was a lot of things on hold. Maybe this
<v Speaker 1>did affect our ability to like make a decision to
<v Speaker 1>spend fifty five billion dollars to acquire EA.
<v Speaker 2>Things along those lines.
<v Speaker 1>It's probably just it probably like filters all the way
<v Speaker 1>down because Disney's very controlling, right, let's see where it's
<v Speaker 1>like they want to have a say.
<v Speaker 3>In how they're hands on partner.
<v Speaker 1>There are hands on partner, and I bet there are
<v Speaker 1>times where it's like that does actually go all the
<v Speaker 1>way up to the top because they're that hands on,
<v Speaker 1>And I bet that's caused headaches that were probably just
<v Speaker 1>normal sized headaches to turn into big headaches during the
<v Speaker 1>last couple of years. But Okay, now now he's installed,
<v Speaker 1>he's someone has experience with video games. Do you expect
<v Speaker 1>Disney to like come back full force into this space?
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, what do you think?
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. Disney's relationship with video game is always
<v Speaker 3>so weird. They seem very happy being a middleman at
<v Speaker 3>the moment and not having to have as much of
<v Speaker 3>the responsibility on their books, And they always seem to
<v Speaker 3>have found actually publishing of video games and owning of
<v Speaker 3>studios more of a headache than anything else, and like
<v Speaker 3>it didn't really work with how that company wanted to operate.
<v Speaker 3>And you know, I'm just really excited for when they
<v Speaker 3>start like introducing park Mechanics into the video games mandatory
<v Speaker 3>because he's like, I love all these park systems so much.
<v Speaker 3>If you want to play the next hour's Jedi game,
<v Speaker 3>you have to like wait in line and watch a
<v Speaker 3>TV screen first where Jimmy Fallon explains how to play
<v Speaker 3>the game, and that would be great.
<v Speaker 1>Jimmy is at Universal because he's at NBC. Yes, get
<v Speaker 1>it right, you're right, And then there's a.
<v Speaker 3>Way I'm respecting your culture grub.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you. This is all we have. This is all
<v Speaker 2>we have. LEXI. Uh yeah, I.
<v Speaker 1>Think if you nailed it again where it's just like,
<v Speaker 1>this is a company that does not want to be
<v Speaker 1>in the situation that like a Warner Brothers is where they're, hey,
<v Speaker 1>we got all these big studios that we own, uh
<v Speaker 1>and that's kind of a pain in the ass. We
<v Speaker 1>want to sell them, and no one wants to sell
<v Speaker 1>them because we're not going to sell the IP and
<v Speaker 1>they just don't want to take on this this huge
<v Speaker 1>uh uh you know Capex thing where they're just gonna
<v Speaker 1>and now that turns into a massive operating expenditure that
<v Speaker 1>they have to spend every month on this payroll.
<v Speaker 3>So I will say, like there's quite a few Disney
<v Speaker 3>video games I'm pretty interested in at the moment. Seems
<v Speaker 3>like they just got the guys who made all those
<v Speaker 3>British racing games to make a Star Wars racing game,
<v Speaker 3>and that sounds great. That sounds awesome.
<v Speaker 1>I expect them to continue down that path of doing
<v Speaker 1>more stuff like that. There's no I mean, Fates of
<v Speaker 1>Fate or Fate of the Old Republic? Is that what
<v Speaker 1>it is?
<v Speaker 2>Fotur.
<v Speaker 1>That's exciting. That's exactly what everyone's been asking for. It's
<v Speaker 1>exactly what everyone wants to see, and it's it's from
<v Speaker 1>so many of the people that made Nights of the
<v Speaker 1>Old Republic. It's the kind of thing. Okay, Yeah, if
<v Speaker 1>you can make those deals happen and sort of facilitate
<v Speaker 1>it yourself and work.
<v Speaker 2>With these external partners, yeah, that's that's great.
<v Speaker 1>It's a little bit like you know, when Disney wants
<v Speaker 1>to make a movie, they bring in a director. For games,
<v Speaker 1>when they want to make a game, they bring in
<v Speaker 1>a studio, like a game studio. I would say, okay,
<v Speaker 1>I think that is a good format for them. I
<v Speaker 1>don't expect, like this Fortnite thing that they'll just that'll
<v Speaker 1>be their biggest sort of Boon, where like, we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>spend most of our money in this space trying to
<v Speaker 1>like be attached to the hip with something like Fortnite,
<v Speaker 1>so that we can reach an audience that we know
<v Speaker 1>is constantly in there. And there's that's a massive audience
<v Speaker 1>that spends a lot of money. So I expect that
<v Speaker 1>to continue to be their focus.
<v Speaker 3>I just hope that Disney Dreamline Valley adds even more
<v Speaker 3>cheeked up characters.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, I'm a w that's a necessity at this point.
<v Speaker 1>Source to say, don't expect Horizons zero Dawn three anytime soon.
<v Speaker 2>This is from Ethan Gotch at Kotaku.
<v Speaker 1>Last week, Gorilla Games reveal the multiplayer game it's been
<v Speaker 1>working on. The project is called Horizon Hunter's Gathering, and
<v Speaker 1>it's a tactical co op action game that looks like
<v Speaker 1>someone repainted the Horizon universe with a Fortnite brush. It's
<v Speaker 1>the third Horizon game that's been announced since Horizon Forbidden
<v Speaker 1>West released, and fans are beginning to wonder what's going
<v Speaker 1>on with the next mainline sequel in the open world
<v Speaker 1>RPG series. Sources tel Kotaku it's still a ways off
<v Speaker 1>and not the studio's top focus right now, what is
<v Speaker 1>their top focus? It's it's this game. It's Horizon Hunter's Gathering.
<v Speaker 1>This is the thing that that Gorilla has been working
<v Speaker 1>on since like twenty eighteen. Okay, yeah, what do you
<v Speaker 1>what do you What do you take away from that?
<v Speaker 3>Lexi, There's a few things in this spot. My biggest
<v Speaker 3>thing is why wasn't this announced this week at the showcase?
<v Speaker 3>Like they just tweeted it out. That was pretty much
<v Speaker 3>the extent of the announcement was, Hey, there's a Steam
<v Speaker 3>page live and we're tweeting about it, which I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I don't understand the thought process behind that.
<v Speaker 1>And is it to like get the initial reaction of
<v Speaker 1>the look out of the way so that people are
<v Speaker 1>used to it. So now when they let's say, okay,
<v Speaker 1>they kind of showed off some stuff that some people
<v Speaker 1>are excited about, but then they mostly people talk about like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>this look is very different. I'm used to the game
<v Speaker 1>looking this way. It looks like one of the most
<v Speaker 1>expensive games in the world. I want more of that now.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe they could surprise at this showcase at the state
<v Speaker 1>of play by like focusing on the really cool stuff
<v Speaker 1>and the gameplay that's in there.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, I'm.
<v Speaker 3>Not feel like that is just it's worked in the
<v Speaker 3>opposite if that was the thinking. It's worked in the
<v Speaker 3>opposite way where you now have fucking weirdos going through
<v Speaker 3>it frame by frame, finding the most unflashing screenshots of
<v Speaker 3>the female characters, being like they made them even more ugly,
<v Speaker 3>and it's you know, I feel like just showing a
<v Speaker 3>big chunk of that game and what it is, it
<v Speaker 3>probably would have so Aldish a lot better because, like
<v Speaker 3>I think Nicky was posting about this on Blue Sky,
<v Speaker 3>like remember how exciting the idea of the multiplayer Spider
<v Speaker 3>Man game was, Like that just sounds like a good
<v Speaker 3>idea ultimately, Like I don't think multiplayer Horizon is a
<v Speaker 3>bad sounding idea for a game, Like the combat in
<v Speaker 3>those games is pretty fun and I could see it
<v Speaker 3>being fun with multiple people in a kind of monster
<v Speaker 3>huntery way. But announcing it with like just a single
<v Speaker 3>post and not elaborating too much on it and like
<v Speaker 3>a short trailer and some screenshots really hasn't sold anyone
<v Speaker 3>on what this project is and why it's so deserving
<v Speaker 3>of their time and attention. And I think they have
<v Speaker 3>a lot of ground to make up Honish already. And
<v Speaker 3>also the shifting art style just seems like a strange
<v Speaker 3>choice because those games look so good, like that was
<v Speaker 3>the thing that they could kind of hang their hat
<v Speaker 3>on on, no matter what else is they looked really
<v Speaker 3>fucking nice and now they just kind of look like
<v Speaker 3>a Fortnight season.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean you see why they can do that
<v Speaker 1>or why they do that, right, It's like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they better make cheaper and it makes it easier to
<v Speaker 1>like make new content, and it makes it easier to
<v Speaker 1>have a bunch of different skin packs that sort of
<v Speaker 1>can all fit this style.
<v Speaker 3>Do they want it to be a live service thing?
<v Speaker 2>You know?
<v Speaker 3>Like that was always the thing with the Last of
<v Speaker 3>Us Factions was they had the come to god moment
<v Speaker 3>of like we have to keep on Yeah, they kind
<v Speaker 3>of realized, like we can't keep on supporting this, like
<v Speaker 3>it wouldn't be realistic. So like do they does Grilla
<v Speaker 3>want to become a live service studio?
<v Speaker 2>I mean I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I mean I think if they this game makes that money,
<v Speaker 1>they they would want it to be. I think the
<v Speaker 1>problem with Last of Those Factions is it wasn't going
<v Speaker 1>to change the visual style, so it's going to look
<v Speaker 1>like a Last of Us game, and then they had
<v Speaker 1>to like make all those skin packs attractive and make
<v Speaker 1>people want to buy them while still making it fit
<v Speaker 1>in the Last of Us.
<v Speaker 2>Like I said, that game out a story and all
<v Speaker 2>that stuff.
<v Speaker 1>This one does feel like lessons learned from that, and
<v Speaker 1>it's a game that can make.
<v Speaker 2>All that stuff work.
<v Speaker 1>And hopefully they just have a pipeline to where the
<v Speaker 1>creation of those items is super efficient and they can
<v Speaker 1>make a good profit margin on them, you know, that's
<v Speaker 1>what they want. I think there's going to be people
<v Speaker 1>who look at this game and be like, I don't
<v Speaker 1>care about the other Horizon games. This does look more
<v Speaker 1>appealing to me, and that'll be nice. But those Horizon
<v Speaker 1>games do sell well. PlayStations made a lot of money
<v Speaker 1>off of them. That is their bread and butter. So
<v Speaker 1>it is curious to me that they aren't even really
<v Speaker 1>It doesn't seem like like they're really even working on it.
<v Speaker 1>In earnest at this point, the next mainline Horizon game,
<v Speaker 1>Like you would think, okay, that when did the last
<v Speaker 1>one come out?
<v Speaker 3>It's been many twenty dollars during the pandemic, early during the.
<v Speaker 1>Pandemic Forbidd and West was twenty twenty twenty twenty one.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe either way, that's crazy, Okay, yeah, right then we're
<v Speaker 1>talking about like this, we should be talking about the
<v Speaker 1>next one, and I think they view this as the
<v Speaker 1>next thing in the Horizon series. And so when does
<v Speaker 1>three come out? Twenty twenty two? People are saying, okay.
<v Speaker 3>Twenty twenty two. Sorry, those years really do blur together.
<v Speaker 2>Don't Oh yeah, it's all the same thing.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it doesn't help that I was in college for
<v Speaker 3>those years, so like it was extra. Every day was
<v Speaker 3>the exact same. Yeah. I will say quick shout out
<v Speaker 3>to Giovanni col Antonio on Twitter for highlighting or on
<v Speaker 3>Blue Sky for highlighting that this game is a really
<v Speaker 3>promising sign of life that the Dusk Bloods is on schedule.
<v Speaker 2>Why is that I'm missing the jill.
<v Speaker 3>So it's going to release the same day.
<v Speaker 1>Oh that's very okay, incredible, that's very good job.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, I can't wait for this game to get buried
<v Speaker 2>by something else.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely, I am probably not going to play this.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I got we'll play it for work. Maybe we'll do
<v Speaker 1>it on like a UPF or something. I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>and who knows, maybe I fall in love with it.
<v Speaker 2>It looks like a lightweight.
<v Speaker 3>I mean they've probably hit it at the right time,
<v Speaker 3>like Monster Huno is in a low ebb, you know,
<v Speaker 3>like those potential for people to want one of these.
<v Speaker 3>I'm just not sure if it's gonna have that same depth.
<v Speaker 1>We got more PS six rumors. This is from Video
<v Speaker 1>cards dot Com. A new round Yeah, hell.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, let's go back to the Geocity days.
<v Speaker 2>That's right.
<v Speaker 1>A new round of rumors for next generation PlayStation hardware
<v Speaker 1>is focusing on memory capacity. Basically, it's gonna have thirty
<v Speaker 1>gigabytes of g d d R seven memory, which sounds expensive.
<v Speaker 1>It sounds very expensive. That would I mean, I wonder
<v Speaker 1>if that would be shared between it'd probably be like
<v Speaker 1>the whole memory like.
<v Speaker 2>They've shared between the GPU and the CPU.
<v Speaker 1>I'm pretty sure that's how counts actually work, and that's
<v Speaker 1>usually how consoles work. I think I'm shooting from the
<v Speaker 1>hip here, everybody. Sorry, the let's see there's a whole
<v Speaker 1>chart here. The PlayStation five has sixteen gigabytes of GDDR
<v Speaker 1>six memory, and that's right, okay, And then so this
<v Speaker 1>would have more memory, and then it would also have
<v Speaker 1>faster memory because it's gdd R seven, which is significantly
<v Speaker 1>faster but also significantly more expensive.
<v Speaker 2>Then the rumored PlayStation handheld.
<v Speaker 1>Still the thing that would still be coming probably around
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty seven to twenty twenty eight, probably twenty twenty
<v Speaker 1>eight at this point, that will have twenty four gigabytes
<v Speaker 1>of low power. I think gdd R five X, so
<v Speaker 1>that's interesting. That's pretty close to GDDR six, and that
<v Speaker 1>means it should be able to run a lot of
<v Speaker 1>stuff that ran on PlayStation.
<v Speaker 2>Five either way.
<v Speaker 1>But really I think at this point, like see when
<v Speaker 1>people hear that, the first thing they think of is
<v Speaker 1>where are they going to get this from? Isn't all
<v Speaker 1>that stuff sold out going to be very expensive? I
<v Speaker 1>think the hope is we'll get on the other side
<v Speaker 1>of this and that'll be right when these things go
<v Speaker 1>into production. But that is a hope at this point,
<v Speaker 1>and that is all things go right.
<v Speaker 3>That seems like bedding the house in a lot of
<v Speaker 3>ways like that, I don't know, that's that's putting it
<v Speaker 3>all on.
<v Speaker 2>Black, Like.
<v Speaker 3>I don't maybe maybe maybe things get better, maybe things
<v Speaker 3>get better, but I don't see it. This thing is
<v Speaker 3>going to be expensive. It's going to be pretty damn
<v Speaker 3>expens Oh.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's I think that goes with that saying at
<v Speaker 2>this point, right.
<v Speaker 3>Like any which way, this new handheld, this new box
<v Speaker 3>both are going to be by far the most expensive
<v Speaker 3>even adjusted for inflation, that any of these previous consoles
<v Speaker 3>have been, and it won't be particularly close. And will
<v Speaker 3>they be able to justify it? That's going to be
<v Speaker 3>like the real question because like people will still want
<v Speaker 3>to keep playing video games, the question will just become
<v Speaker 3>will have become much more feasible that you buy a
<v Speaker 3>low power PC and either stream to which or just
<v Speaker 3>you know, have worse looking games running or your games
<v Speaker 3>looking worse running on it locally, which I do think
<v Speaker 3>like push come to shove. When you're talking about that
<v Speaker 3>much money, people will go for like worse looking games,
<v Speaker 3>or they'll just start with the hobby, which is very
<v Speaker 3>real concern, you know. So yeah, I don't know that
<v Speaker 3>everything's fucked.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think the good good thing for here, for
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation is that having this handheld ready to go and
<v Speaker 1>trying to seemingly make it powerful enough to like run
<v Speaker 1>some PS five games, it's gonna like the good news
<v Speaker 1>for them, is they've been supporting and a lot of
<v Speaker 1>people have been supporting the PS four for a very
<v Speaker 1>long time, and this thing will be able to run
<v Speaker 1>everything on PS four without breaking a sweat. So there
<v Speaker 1>will be a lot of coni for this thing, and
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people's library is just going to transfer
<v Speaker 1>to it automatically, and that's exciting to me. I'm I'm
<v Speaker 1>ready for like gaming to shift over to be like
<v Speaker 1>a handheld hobby primaryvity lash.
<v Speaker 2>On the go.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, no one's ever been able to do it before.
<v Speaker 1>They said it couldn't be done. All right, Xbox rumors
<v Speaker 1>are happening as well. Jess Cordon as a whole boat load.
<v Speaker 1>He says that that that whole thing about AMD Lisa Sue,
<v Speaker 1>that's her name, talking about the twenty twenty seven supporting
<v Speaker 1>of a Xbox next Gen launch, that people at Xbox
<v Speaker 1>view that as the best case scenario twenty twenty seven.
<v Speaker 1>What they're really focused on is getting the operating system right,
<v Speaker 1>because they want it to work kind of like it
<v Speaker 1>does on Steam Deck, where you go into a gaming
<v Speaker 1>mode and then you can launch it the time.
<v Speaker 3>Like I've heard this story before.
<v Speaker 2>Go, yes, I exactly.
<v Speaker 1>But they continue to say that's the thing that's like
<v Speaker 1>the very important because it's definitely going to be a
<v Speaker 1>gaming PC.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's going.
<v Speaker 1>They're also going to do it kind of how they
<v Speaker 1>do surface, where Microsoft's going to make their own and
<v Speaker 1>then other companies can release Xbox branded PCs, I guess,
<v Speaker 1>and like.
<v Speaker 3>Well, the good news is they they nailed it with
<v Speaker 3>the log Allies interface and everyone loves that and doesn't
<v Speaker 3>have any problems with it, so.
<v Speaker 2>Like out of the gate perfect. Yeah. Absolutely.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, you know, they still seem to know that's
<v Speaker 1>the problem though, and it's like, Okay, at the very
<v Speaker 1>least they know the problem. Do they have the ability
<v Speaker 1>to fix it? Well, I bet they think they have
<v Speaker 1>the ai to fix it, and that'll just make it
<v Speaker 1>terrible at some point.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, at some point, it does kind of feel like
<v Speaker 3>you know that sports team that loses every game and
<v Speaker 3>they're like talking about like, we need to work on
<v Speaker 3>the fundamentals, we need to work on the fundamentals. Yes,
<v Speaker 3>it's like, yeah, dog, we all know you need to
<v Speaker 3>work on the fundamentals.
<v Speaker 1>Fundamentals are fucked, bro, we know we've been yelling at
<v Speaker 1>before the game. Actually, it will have Xbox backward compatibility though,
<v Speaker 1>which obviously feels like, well, it better have that, but
<v Speaker 1>it's going to be a PC and that has not
<v Speaker 1>been the case so far.
<v Speaker 2>It'll be interesting to be like, Okay.
<v Speaker 1>Does that only work with this AMD chip set or
<v Speaker 1>is that something that that Microsoft will be able to
<v Speaker 1>port to Windows as a whole, because I think that
<v Speaker 1>would make sense They should be able to do that.
<v Speaker 2>That would be my expectation. I just wouldn't expect it
<v Speaker 2>right away.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, twenty twenty seven at the earliest, it is
<v Speaker 1>going to be all the things we've been hearing, like
<v Speaker 1>Epic Games, the Epic Store will likely just be on
<v Speaker 1>that thing when you launch it. So, hey, I guess
<v Speaker 1>what this is really saying, Lexi is the Xbox console
<v Speaker 1>is kind kind of dead. Like after this, it's it's
<v Speaker 1>a whole different thing, and I think it's the thing
<v Speaker 1>it probably needs to transform into.
<v Speaker 2>But this is it in a lot of ways, right, Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>It It almost doesn't feel like a news story, which
<v Speaker 3>is the weirdest part. Yeah, like everyone's just kind of like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>of course, like this we all knew this was happening.
<v Speaker 3>All this is We've known this is happening for like years, now,
<v Speaker 3>and it just kind of feels like, I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>At some point, how many times can people get away
<v Speaker 3>with being like Xbox is dead? I was like, I
<v Speaker 3>don't it Maybe, I don't know. It's in a weird lik.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's just in third place perpetually. That might
<v Speaker 3>just be where it's at of It might just not
<v Speaker 3>be the industry leader, you know.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, the hardware is just an afterthought and we we've
<v Speaker 1>known that for a long time now, and this just
<v Speaker 1>is like the period on that sentence. And they are
<v Speaker 1>interested in just selling Call of Duty everywhere, which this
<v Speaker 1>is a part of that strategy.
<v Speaker 2>All right. Last story here. Discord will force you to.
<v Speaker 1>Scan your face or ID to unlock all of its features.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Zach's whisin that Kotaku big changes are
<v Speaker 1>coming to Discord next month, the company behind one of
<v Speaker 1>the most popular voice and chat services on the planet
<v Speaker 1>announced that all new and existing Discord users will soon
<v Speaker 1>have to prove their age via face scan or ID
<v Speaker 1>to gain access to the entirety of the app. On
<v Speaker 1>February ninth, a, Discord and Now that as part of
<v Speaker 1>its long standing commitment to creating a safer experience for teams.
<v Speaker 1>All Discord users will worldwide will be shifted to a
<v Speaker 1>tea and appropriate experience by default. This change will happen
<v Speaker 1>in early March, and once fully rolled out, it means
<v Speaker 1>users who can't prove they are adults will lose access
<v Speaker 1>to a number of features and parts of Discord. Nice
<v Speaker 1>tri fad, but I'm still not paying my taxes.
<v Speaker 2>This is.
<v Speaker 3>Gonna go visit my friend Sam Porter of Bridges and
<v Speaker 3>see if he can do some camera work for me.
<v Speaker 1>I'm going to go out there and just wait five
<v Speaker 1>minutes for the open source alternative for Discord to pop up,
<v Speaker 1>which I'm sure is already in the works as.
<v Speaker 2>We are speaking as this got announced. I'm long did it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm not giving my license to any of these companies, Like,
<v Speaker 1>I'm just not doing that. And I don't really want
<v Speaker 1>to scan my face either. Look, if I'm if I'm
<v Speaker 1>not going to do it for pornography, I'm not going
<v Speaker 1>to do it for Discord.
<v Speaker 2>This is a this is the bad Internet.
<v Speaker 1>We're in the bad Internet now, and we've known that,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like, oh, this is the worst kind of
<v Speaker 1>worst case scenario where the open and free Internet is
<v Speaker 1>now being least like being treated as the least common denominator,
<v Speaker 1>and we have to sort of play to these worst
<v Speaker 1>case scenarios. And these corporations do that in a way
<v Speaker 1>that is so ham fisted that it's not going to
<v Speaker 1>protect anybody. It's not going to help anybody. It just
<v Speaker 1>covers their ass legally speaking, and here we are and
<v Speaker 1>we all have to get a worst Internet because of it.
<v Speaker 2>This is very frustrating.
<v Speaker 3>Lexi, Chuck, you're not busy? Can you build us like
<v Speaker 3>a new peer to peer video service so that we
<v Speaker 3>can keep doing the show, Just.
<v Speaker 2>Like, yeah, what's your We're like, why are you? Haven't
<v Speaker 2>you done that already? Just a lazy bastard.
<v Speaker 1>This guy just disgustingly from slothful.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, this fucking sucks from every angle. This is dreadful.
<v Speaker 3>It's like a massive overstep from a corporate entergy harvesting
<v Speaker 3>your data. And people should be rightly pissed and they
<v Speaker 3>should let them know that they are pissed about us.
<v Speaker 3>And if you really truly are pissed, yeah, go find
<v Speaker 3>an alternative. Tell me about it, tell everyone about it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, this is what happens.
<v Speaker 1>And you know the company is going to be They're
<v Speaker 1>they're doing an I p O right that hasn't happened yet,
<v Speaker 1>but they're kind of gearing up for something along those lines,
<v Speaker 1>and part of that will be like global compliance, and
<v Speaker 1>that's their that's their primary concern at the end of
<v Speaker 1>the day, with all of these things that are free,
<v Speaker 1>and this is our fault, we're complicit in this. But
<v Speaker 1>any product that's free like this, well, you're the product.
<v Speaker 1>It's a story that's very old and we all know
<v Speaker 1>this now. All the users that are on there are
<v Speaker 1>the product. They are now being sold and they have
<v Speaker 1>to figure out ways to do that, and that they
<v Speaker 1>don't they're not really concerned with actually keeping that experience
<v Speaker 1>pure or nice.
<v Speaker 2>Or as good as possible.
<v Speaker 1>It's just like all these other social media networks where
<v Speaker 1>remember when it was good, what had to change because
<v Speaker 1>if they made it bad, they'll make more money, and
<v Speaker 1>discord will be the exact same.
<v Speaker 3>Well, I made a startling discovery discovery over the weekend.
<v Speaker 3>I got a YouTube ad for Only Fans' premium streaming service,
<v Speaker 3>which offers original content, none of which is pornographic.
<v Speaker 2>There's like they have like reality TV shows or something.
<v Speaker 3>Its reality TV shows and stand up specials, and the
<v Speaker 3>ad I got was like clips back to back to
<v Speaker 3>back from like five different stand up specials where the
<v Speaker 3>comedian was basically making a joke being like crypto isn't
<v Speaker 3>that bad when you think about it, And it was
<v Speaker 3>like five different comedians doing the same bit.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, yeah, that's I don't know who that's for.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's just for the people that make only
<v Speaker 1>fans to like feel better because they have internalized shame
<v Speaker 1>or whatever.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Like it is literally like reading the interesting article
<v Speaker 3>next to the like fold oush next to the centerfold
<v Speaker 3>in Playboy. You know, it's it's incredible that these companies
<v Speaker 3>keep thinking that people want things that aren't actually the
<v Speaker 3>service or utility that they provide.
<v Speaker 2>I get frustrated by this because we know what Discord
<v Speaker 2>is doing.
<v Speaker 1>It's not gonna protect anybody that people always find ways
<v Speaker 1>around things. But it's also like, you know, there is
<v Speaker 1>a way to tell if I'm an adult. It's you know,
<v Speaker 1>if I have a credit card, and yet sure kids
<v Speaker 1>can find ways to get that stuff, but it's like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, you already have my credit card information. You've
<v Speaker 1>had it for a long enough time that just by
<v Speaker 1>default you know that I am over eighteen.
<v Speaker 2>It's just a dumb thing that they have.
<v Speaker 3>Every time I open Steam in my browser and I'm
<v Speaker 3>logged in to my account and then i open a
<v Speaker 3>like game and it's like verify your age, motherfucker, I've
<v Speaker 3>had this account.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah right.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's just a part of a compliance for
<v Speaker 1>some country there where.
<v Speaker 2>It's like they have to do that because you have
<v Speaker 2>to ask.
<v Speaker 1>Every time, Oh my god, make the Internet worse just
<v Speaker 1>for no good reason for these the theater of security
<v Speaker 1>or whatever, the theater of protecting children, where we know
<v Speaker 1>that's not their real concern. All right, that does it
<v Speaker 1>for the headlines. Let's get to the pole question for
<v Speaker 1>the Wednesday. We don't have one from Friday because we
<v Speaker 1>did the bomb twelve. As a reminder, if you go
<v Speaker 1>to giant bomb dot com, you can scroll down and
