Speaker 4: Yes, it was a rain three and a half hour rain delay, so I was on an eight to forty five flight. I not have to bore everybody with the details, but so I had to get get rid of that, get on a new flight, find a hotel. There's no hotels in town because it's Lolla plooza. There's a soccer game. It's crazy. The Phillies were kind of scrambling too, because if they had not been able to play on Wednesday, and it's a big family trip, so they weren't even sure where they'd be able to get, you know, rooms and hotels and things like that. So but in all of it, they made a big trade. They got Joan Duran from the Minnesota Twins. I like it, big deal.

Speaker 5: Big power arm, get a little bit of postseasons experience with the Twins, but dominant guy. He's had some good seasons. This is not his best season, but he's still young. I still think there's a lot there. Keeps the ball on the ground, doesn't allow home run, get some strikeouts. Just you know, they their big need was a back ender, and they got one of the best guys that was available, one of the best guys out there. Paid a steep price and able and the catcher at Wardo TAYI but I think you had to do it. You desperately needed to fill out that bullpen. So you know, now you go Kirkering Robertson, You'll have Alvarado for a few weeks. Yeah, you'll have Duran and you know Strom, I just think one of the things I think gets overlooked is the fact the last two Octobers we pointed a lot of fingers at the offense. You know, they go cold in Game six and seven against Arizona, and then they don't really hit against the Mets. But in both of those series, the bullpen was almost just as big of a problem, if not just as big of a problem. You know, the Arizona game, the Arizona series, the New York series, big problems with the bullpen helped, you know, lead to early October exits. I just think they really strengthened their bullpen with this move. It's the move that everybody wanted Dave, the type of move everybody wanted Dave Dombroski to make, a move designed to put your team in position to win the World Series. That's why I like it.

Speaker 6: A guy like Abel and a kid like t Tay, you're moving a lot of talent and Tay it's far away, and you know, that's one of the reasons why you can sort of move a guy like that. You just don't know how you're going to progress. He may end up becoming an All star catcher. Who knows Abe's going to be an immediate help for the Minnesota Twins and should be. But you got to give to get and you got to give qual to get quality.

Speaker 6: Ninety eight mile an hour split and a guy who puts the ball on the ground better than anybody, more than, in fact, even more than I think our own Christopher Sanchez. He gets the ball on the ground a lot and uh or close to it. And you know what was interesting to look at his numbers. They do get some hits against him. They do not hit the ball out against him. You gave up what one home run the entire season so far. But he he gets out and that's what you need. And he's got an unbelievable power arm. Anywhere from one hundred to one hundred and two mile an hour fastball for seemer ninety eight miles split doesn't look like he's got a ton of deception in his delivery, but the deception comes in the power and uh, and they got a great one. Think about how they line up that bullpen now instead of Strom and Coirkering, think about that Strama Cookering. We're like the two guys in the back end. Now they got Robertson, Duran Kirkering and Strom and Alvarado's coming back at least for a little while, not during the playoffs.

I mean, I assume he's gonna be the closer. And then there's a little pause. He's like he should be, and we said no, they said he's going to be the closer. He's like, yeah, he should be. He's really really good and he's really dominant, and he should be the closer. So it was just that was kind of funny that everybody wanted to make it very cool. He's not going to be say goodbye the.

We want Andrew Painter and he's and Dave said, you're not getting Andrew Painter. And so I don't know if the Twins asked for Andrew Painter at one point and then moved.

And then when it gets closer, you find a meeting point. And it seems obviously the Phillies and the Twins found a common ground. The Twins love the fact that Abel's going to be able to pitch in the big leagues right away, and there's the price to pay to get a couple.

Yeah, I think Suarez is probably out now right.

It's an eternity. I think they'll keep trying to inch it along and you know, get that right handed batch just kind of augment the offense a little bit. I still think I actually, I think there's enough here if these guys could somehow find some consistency. But if you can get that right here in boat to help out a little bit, that would be great.

You know, might be the marginal incremental improvement that we talk about all the time, that Pat Gillick talked about all the time. As you pointed out Todd, sometimes you don't get CC Sabbathia, but you get Joe Blanton and that pushes you along. So I think they're at the tweak stage having filled their biggest need. And I think the bullpen was the biggest need ahead of offense, and they they got something done. It really, you know, I think about I was thinking about they lost Tayid and they really I mean, you got an agent catcher who's a free agent. They don't have a real catch. I know Martrons here, but they don't have They're very thin on catching prospects now. But we have heard some chatter about this guy Feribus in clear Water, and I'm just wondering if they like what they see in him. Not that tiny nay ball player was going to hold up a deal for a difference maker that could make a difference in winning and losing in October. But I do think they like this kid Feribus. He's opened some eyes a little bit.

The Phillies get Cliff Lee and Ruben comes into the clubhouse just struck this major deal and he gets a round of applause from the players in the clubhouse. They were so excited about getting Cliff Lee. I remember specifically, remember Shane Victorino standing and giving you a standing O. Jim Jimmy, you were in there, right, I mean you remember that.

I Seattle chasing down Roy Halliday making his last start for the Blue Jays, and you know, they give Ruben a standing ovation in Arizona and up in Seattle, Roy Halliday pitches his guts out and learns that Cliff Lee is going to Philadelphia, the place that he wanted to be. And Roy had this unforgettable look of disappointment on his face after that game.

And then Kyle Schwarber said, whenever you make a splash for a high caliber player, that means something. And then he kind of talked about Eraldus Chapman. So you know, Bryce was you know, Bryce was Bryce. He he wanted to see something big and he got something big. And you know now, and he also is head of point. He's like, and we're not done yet. We're not done yet.

So when they signed Bryce Harper, Matt Clintac was the GM and if you remember they they met with Harper out Vegas. I guess it was and Harper basically interviewed the Phillies front office, like Middleton and the interviewed clintact about direction of the franchise, and you know, convinced me this is the place I want to sign. And when I was at NBC Sports and we did that. Remember we did that documentary Todd signing Harper at least a show.

Speaker 5: But at one point in that documentary, I was interviewing John Middleton for the documentary and he made the comment that it really jumped out at him or impressed him actually, about Bryce and Bryce's commitment to winning that Bryce asked Matt Clintech, you know, do you have the guts to give up young prospects and young talent and make that big move when we're this close to winning the World Series? And that quote has been kind of resonating in my mind recently. And you know what they did. They did. They made That's the type of move that that you have to make. They gave up two good prospects and you know that a lot of people would like to have and they got themselves. They filled a very big need. A closure less team, a closer less team now has one of the best closers in baseball.
