Happy Ranger Sores pitched fantastically and that is the great place to start. It is the park's first pitch. First pitch is brought to us exclusively by our partners at Parks Casino, Pennsylvania's number one casino guys. Ranger Suarez fantastic through ninety eight pitches. Threw his first ninety eight pitches into the eighth inning Tuesday night in Houston, and then he leaves a cutter over the plate to Cooper Hummel, who hits a home run to right center field. It's the only run of the game. The Phillies lose one nothing. Rangers was fantastic fifty pitches through five no innings. He makes two sick plays off the mound, catches a you know, a one to three double play to end a fourth inning, makes another fantastic catch off of Cam Smith in the fifth that forgets his glove, leaves it back home in Philly.

Gold Glover could make any you know, any play that a pitcher was presented with, and Ranger looked great defensively, always looks great defensively. Great athlete is always in a good fielding position. But the way I mean he was cutter, change up, he was down, he was getting the edge. Now he started walking it off the edge. It was like a left handed Mannox a lot of soft contact. Was a brilliant performance, and he's had a string of brilliant performances like it's last nine. He's got a one point one seven e r A. I just, I just, I'm I'm digressing a little bit. But if he doesn't get hurt, he's pitching like he did the first half of last year. If he doesn't get hurt, I mean, are we even talking about him getting the free agency? Maybe we are, but maybe the Phillies making a really aggressive offer last winter to UH to keep him.

Look at his record in the playoffs, it's ridiculous. It's about whether he can be durable and healthy enough. And I gotta believe that in this day and age, they're gonna be teams out there that say, you know what, we'll be able to We'll be able to manage that, we'll manage his innings.

And you know, maybe you know, and somebody's gonna pay this man. He and franbervald As we faced yesterday the two free agents too lefty for agents. And beyond that, I mean, there're gonna be teams battling for these two dudes, at least maybe one of them. But they're gonna be battling for these two dudes, and they're gonna make some.

And we did ask you, guys, our viewers are our listeners Tuesday to send us your questions, and I wanted to start with one question. Got a lot of great questions, but I wanted to ask you this question because it involves Ranger. And this is from j R Adler on threads. How do you not find a way to sign Ranger? Especially with Zach Wheeler retiring at the end of his contract and Aaron Nola possibly wearing down. There must be a way. So many people seem to think it's a foregone conclusion that there is no money to sign Ranger. Swore, as we have said many times on this show, if we had to bet money on who is not back out of Schwarber, Real, Muto, and Suarez, we would all put a mortgage payment, probably on Ranger Suarez not coming back. But Jim you brought it up, Rubin you mentioned it.

Speaker 3: You know, what would I do? I still have questions about the durability. I know who the agent is. They're going to test it, They're going to keep him out there a long time. They're going to work the market. I think he's looking for a big score. You already have two three hundred million dollar commitments, and there there's a long time left on those. I think Schwarber retaining him is vital in this ballpark. With that power, you don't have a ton of power to begin with. There's a lot of variables. I know Aaron Nola is wearing down and we see evidence of it, but you know, separate of that, there's still a long term commitment to him with a lot of money attached to it. There's a lot of money attached to Zach Wheeler over the next two years. They're already at the fourth luxury tax I don't know where John Middleton is willing to go, but if he's willing to just blow past it allah the Mets, then I could see him being here. Would I like to have him if he's pitching the way he has pitched? More so, would I like to have him if he has shown the health he has shown the last two months. Indeed, yes I would, because I think the health will precede the performance. If he's healthy, he will perform. I just don't know. I don't know, and a lot of it depends on what happens with Schwarber. Can you get out from some money this winter because you still have commitments to Castianos and Taiwan Walker for twenty six. Look, I think it's worth bearing down on and seeing if you can make it work, seeing how far the owner is willing to go. All I know is Ranger Suarez is on an incredible salary drive and I expect to expect it to continue over these final months. That's why I thought it was so absurd the talk going around town about trading him a few weeks ago. You need him if you want to win the World Series this year, in the rotation and the bullpen. You just need him getting out somewhere and probably in the rotation. But you know, I don't know. I don't get paid to make these decisions. I get paid very small amount of money to sit here on the YouTuber and talk silly about these decisions. Rubert actually got paid to make these decisions. What would you do?

Speaker 4: I would preemptively try to sign both real Muto and Schwarber, and I would hold off on Ranger until I found out that he can pitch all the way through this season, and knowing that he's healthy and it takes care of himself.

Speaker 4: I want to see more health. I want to see him play it out and listen. I love the guy. I love the way he pitches. I love everything about him. But you know, your best ability is availability, and if he's not able to pitch, and I'm going to commit two hundred and some million dollars to the man, which is what it's going to cost, probably because now you're talking about Max Freed type money, Am I wrong?

Speaker 2: And Ruby, you're right too, because every team, right, just like a hitter that's coming off a down year, you have your hitting coach, Telly Rubin, I can fix this guy. Get let me get my hands on this guy. Or the pitching coach can say, the training staff can say, yeah, he's been down and out, but I think he's can heal. I mean this is kind of related, not the exact same situation, but the Phillies let Zach Eflin go a few years ago basically because they're like, this guy's gonna look for a multi year deal. He's got a lot of knee issues, he's had some back issues. We're not gonna lock this guy up to a three or four year deal. The Tampa Bay Ray said, we can keep him healthy, We'll sign him a multi year deal, you know. And so there's gonna be a team out there that is not going to be scared away by the fact that he's you know, he ended up blast, heason't getting hurt, and he started this season on the injured list, and he's had a history of health issues. Because they're just gonna look at those numbers and go, we'll do what the Phillies can't do.

Speaker 4: What they're really going to do is make sure they're gonna look at his arm and his shoulder and they say, hey, he's healthy.

Speaker 4: They'll say, hey, you know, the risk is much much lower than than maybe on some other guys. So that's why I hold off. I hold off to the end of the season until he makes his last pitch with the Phillies, and then I decide what to do with him, or you know, depending on what my puro looks, I can decide on, you know, whether they'll bring him back. I'd love to bring him back. He's a great picture. He's the fun to watch. He's done it in the in the type, he's done it in the playoffs. He's done it as a closer, he's done it as a starter. There's no reason why I wouldn't want to bring him back. Accept that. You know, I'm not sure if he's going to be durable enough to put those kind of dollars into this man, and he's going to have to prove that through the end of the year, hopefully for the Phillies.

I've been doing this for several games over the course of this spring training, and finally he noticed me, and he had tried to shoot a couple towards my way so I could try to clean out the window and catch it. So during this one game he fires one up and like, holy crap, this is coming my way. I lean to the left, window was closed, smashed my face up against the window full force. Cut my eye, big grease stain on the window because I was nice and oily that day, nice hot summer, nice spring day. Left a nice little imprint on the window and a nice little cut above my eye from slap my face in the window. I got the window before he sticked her head out of it.

A lot of trade deadline questions. We understand why the Phillies have been playing good baseball lately. They have a chance to not only win the NL East, but they want to win the World Series. So first question comes from Scotty doesn't know. On X is Dave Dombrowski finally going all in during this window they're in. This is year four, and not once has he made a huge splash of the deadline to push us over the top with a top arm or top bat.

Speaker 3: God, Like, what are we talking about? Splatt. If you knew for a fact that you're going to get a big dog acquisition and he was going to perform and put you over the top, of course you do it. It's it's just that uncertainty, you know.

Speaker 4: So here's the biggest problem. It's still early, and it sounds crazy, but it is still early. But there's because there's so many teams. They're mathematically probably still twenty or so teams that are in the race, and they don't want to show their fans that they're out of it. They got to sell tickets. They have to show people that they're in this thing until they're not. And they also want to try to maximize their assets so that, you know, you want they want to put a little heat on the teams that might I mean, all these teams have the same needs. Everybody needs a bat, everybody needs a couple of bats piece. Everybody needs it. Every single team, there's no They're all flawed. And you know it's about It's about you know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Trades are so difficult to make. I'm not saying they can't be made, and I'm not saying you don't have you know, I mean you can have the assets to get something done. But how does it affect your future? How does it affect your present? Does it make you a winner? Does it give you a real chance to be better? What I do think, though, is that when you roll out a team and a lineup like you rolled out yesterday, from the fifth hitter, from the sixth hitter to the ninth hitter, you're basically rolling out a triple A ball club.

Speaker 4: Buddy Kennedy, Otto Kemp, Johan Rojas, those guys are not established major league players, and so you're rolling out players who are who've had some levels of success in the minor leagues, some limited success in the big leagues.

Speaker 4: Of players to win you a World Series against a left handed pitcher that you might be facing a Max freed A, you know, whoever, whoever it may be from bar Valdez. I mean, and I think what they're doing right now is finding out. They're finding out if bout O Kemp can play left field and for a championship team, they're finding out. Obviously, Buddy Kennedy's in there because we don't have our first basement or the Phillies don't have their first basement. But you know, I think centerfield is an issue, especially from the right side. I think the outfield in general is an issue, especially from the right side of the plate. And obviously, you know, adding to that bullpen is essential as well. So yeah, I think Dave ne Browsei's gonna do what he's He's going to try to do exactly what I mean.

Speaker 4: He's made big trades in the past for other organizations. He's tried to do it in a judicious way in the past. The question is is he really going to go all out and is he going to move Andrew Painter to be that guy is easy, good move, you know.

Speaker 4: To get those guys, a multiple of those guys, I don't see it. Necessarily, It's possible, but I just don't see it.

Speaker 3: He's gonna have to move something that's gonna hurt because they really need a legit bullpen guy. I know the end of that game. I know the bottom of the order last night really hurt them. I know Kennedy and Rojas were all for four with runners in scoring position. I know they were man handled by left handed pitching all night, including the reliever hater. They need a right handed bat in the outfield. We're gonna find out about camp as you mentioned, but they really need a guy in the seventh, eighth, or ninth inning. And I'm probably leaning toward the ninth inning. But you know, whether it's e Manuel Classe or eraldis Chapman, we don't think Mason Miller is going to be available. I'll tell you what, what's that The guy in Baltimore, the guy in Baltimore, you know, I mean, Tampa Bay's in it. So the Fairbanks guys, you know, I got to think you know, they're right there. The guy in Minnesota, Duran, he's but it's gonna hurt. It's good whatever they do. They're going to give up a guy who's going to play in the big leagues and probably be pretty good, has a lot of upside. But is that all in? I don't know. I think it's pretty od. I think when you have two three hundred million dollar players, one hundred million dollar player, uh, you know, a forty two million dollar picture, one hundred and seventy million dollar picture, one hundred and fifteen million dollar I think you're all in now. Now you've got to fill a big hole in the bullpen, and you're going to have to give up a prospect, and it's gonna hurt. And to me, that you know, means yeah, I think they're gonna That would be my definition of going in, of going all in. My definition of going all in isn't emptying my farm system and giving up my top four or five prospects. It's probably, uh, you know, filling one substantial need with one substantial talent and giving up one substantial prospect.

And whether it doesn't matter whether he's in Double A, Triple A, or in the Dominican pitching, that's something that he's going to have to learn to do consistently. So always tests, test, test tests, and that's what they make the minor leagues for.
