Episode 16 - Dark Angels - The rise of the 1st legion under the Emperor and their reunitment with the Lion.
On this episode we cover the dark (get it) origins of the 1st Legion. Their usage by the emperor as his secret death force during the Great Crusade. We then dive into the rise of the Lion and his arrival into the legion. Also we will have a discussion on how much Luther over-valued himself to the Lion.... that bit may be a tad on the side of a diatribe.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast. [SPEAKER_00]: Me, John Barsati, and Brad Jester. [SPEAKER_00]: This guy. [SPEAKER_00]: The Orc one is completed, so we have to enter the faction focus. [SPEAKER_00]: Where else are you going to go then, Imperium? [SPEAKER_00]: Because it's about two thirds of the, you know, we should probably do. [SPEAKER_00]: How about the first Legion? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yep, you start with number one. [SPEAKER_00]: That's probably the idea. [SPEAKER_00]: So for those who don't know that means today, we're going to jump into Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to start in the Dark Angels at the beginning. [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to before we get into this talk about more my personal story for here. [SPEAKER_00]: As the competitive player, I hate the Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: I've played against them for a number of years and I always play against them and it's either an auto, an auto, an auto looks. [SPEAKER_01]: I think the Dark Angels are cool. [SPEAKER_01]: Shit. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're more as incredible. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I've also played them, but I also think I played them at the Kelly Cup. [SPEAKER_01]: It did very well. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much. [SPEAKER_00]: And the last time I know that you played them, you went to the hospital after. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, sometimes the Dark Angels secrets are hard to hold. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Dark Angel is a cool shit, but you know what screw this? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going into full why I like Dark Angel before we get into the whole thing, which is, here's the reasons to like Dark Angel. [SPEAKER_01]: Dark Angel's with the not the space was the Emperor's assassins. [SPEAKER_01]: The Dark Angel's with the Emperor's, we don't need to talk about this anymore guys. [SPEAKER_01]: They're primarke just came back. [SPEAKER_01]: from a ten thousand year hiatus. [SPEAKER_01]: And was like, hey man, how's it going? [SPEAKER_01]: Is that a demon primar? [SPEAKER_01]: How about if I crush his skull? [SPEAKER_01]: I've been off. [SPEAKER_01]: Do I have any ring rust? [SPEAKER_01]: Apparently not. [SPEAKER_01]: I just yellow swag. [SPEAKER_01]: A thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, they have the most unique factions within their faction, which is [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you want to play Dark Angels? [SPEAKER_01]: Cool. [SPEAKER_01]: We have all these ways to play them. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, uh, did I mention that we have Death Wing? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the Terminator? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the only Terminator version of the chapter. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, do you want to go Fage? [SPEAKER_01]: You want to Ricky Bobbiatt? [SPEAKER_01]: Ravenway bikes, speeders. [SPEAKER_01]: These are wildly different armies and you can also play the regular marines because they have an entire legion of guys to pull from, but also they have these [SPEAKER_01]: You can play Dark Angels in wildly different ways. [SPEAKER_01]: Even in today's rules, we still have that. [SPEAKER_01]: We're getting into what we might have. [SPEAKER_01]: It depends on you this took. [SPEAKER_01]: But we have wildly different ways to play Dark Angels in the game, which is really exciting. [SPEAKER_01]: And it comes with really great lore. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're Dark Angels fan, [SPEAKER_01]: you can fanboy out, whatever way you want to play them. [SPEAKER_01]: And I actually think that's a really big deal, because one of the biggest complaints I have currently, and I've had for a while, is I can't play the legions, the factions, the dark ages when I want to play space-married. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to play them, and I want to feel like I'm playing the lore. [SPEAKER_01]: Dark angels are one of those chapters that you still can do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's a very much of the dark angels are from a competitive standpoint and bring it in their lore. [SPEAKER_00]: You could play them in night edition. [SPEAKER_00]: I believe in we haven't seen the tenth edition code X yet or maybe we haven't you guys heard this and I won't put it. [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen the tenth edition code X yet. [SPEAKER_00]: It's brought that way. [SPEAKER_00]: But the ninth edition, the eighth edition code X is you were able to play them the way that if you really isn't dark angels lore, they are. [SPEAKER_00]: My complaint about dark angels has been some of the ways you could play them. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God. [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll cover that on our third episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But our first episode is we want to talk about the origins of Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: And for those of you who know Dark Angels, you want us to know how badass this is about to be. [SPEAKER_00]: For those of you who don't know anything about Dark Angels, you're about to learn how incredibly badass. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Please, there's a lot of people that don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knows, I feel like a lot of people know about the Dark Angels after the Lion. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Before the lion, sorry, Dark Angel's fans, holy shit where these guys digs. [SPEAKER_01]: I think they were cooler if I'm being honest, I think. [SPEAKER_01]: They were vengeful. [SPEAKER_01]: So, despite they were, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't just vengeance. [SPEAKER_01]: They were what Batman wanted to be. [SPEAKER_00]: I am vengeance. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's dig into that. [SPEAKER_00]: Dark Angel's were the first Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: which is because they were literally the first ones. [SPEAKER_00]: This Emperor killed all the Thunder Warriors. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, small ass kind of, get to that in a second, spoil the cast at the beginning of the cast bread. [SPEAKER_00]: But he kills them off. [SPEAKER_00]: He's got this Primark project. [SPEAKER_00]: And the first Legion he begins bringing up out of the adivis is, of course, the first Legion who were later named the Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: They are, I would call them an unperfected. [SPEAKER_00]: At this point, he's still, in my opinion, leaned pretty heavy Thunder Warrior on some miserable life. [SPEAKER_01]: Because he's looking, I still think when we had when he first met the Legion, when he makes the first Legion, the Dark Angels, before they met the Primer, which things changed wildly, but before he's still looking for just results. [SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, I think this translates in forever. [SPEAKER_01]: This set the tone for the Dark Angels till the forever. [SPEAKER_00]: Before we dive into this piece of the Emperor is that to remember, the Emperor set out in the Great Crusade with all twenty legions. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he did start with all twenty, only eighteen of them came back. [SPEAKER_00]: But he left with all twenty when he left he had no primax so all twenty legions only reported to him what makes the dark angels interesting is that it was obvious [SPEAKER_00]: historically at this point that he had different plans for each of the legions. [SPEAKER_00]: And he looked to one legion to do the thing that he couldn't let anyone else know was being done. [SPEAKER_00]: And that was a dark engine. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm doing that, you know what, screw it up. [SPEAKER_01]: Go right into it. [SPEAKER_01]: The dark angels are agent from serenity. [SPEAKER_01]: They are the people that take care of the shit to make society. [SPEAKER_01]: The Emperor wanted to make this [SPEAKER_00]: pause there. [SPEAKER_00]: For those who don't know, Serenity is Google it and go watch it. [SPEAKER_00]: It was in, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Also, in watch thirteen episodes of Firefly and then ban everything from Fox. [SPEAKER_00]: It was incredible. [SPEAKER_01]: So effectively, the Emperor has this vision for this idealistic society. [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to conquer, which is just part of what goes on. [SPEAKER_01]: He's rationalizing every action and the ultimate rationalization is the Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_01]: Who are the guys, I want to make this unbelievable society you probably can't live in it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I need you to do these horrible things and the Dark Angels do [SPEAKER_01]: horrible. [SPEAKER_01]: Like a lot of bad bad things, but he's like, I have this problem. [SPEAKER_01]: These guys are going to cause a problem. [SPEAKER_01]: I need them to never exist ever again problem. [SPEAKER_01]: You need to, I don't need you to defeat them. [SPEAKER_01]: This is where the Dark Angels come in. [SPEAKER_01]: You call the space wolves when you need somebody kill. [SPEAKER_01]: You need a guy killed. [SPEAKER_01]: You need [SPEAKER_01]: John is taking another segment. [SPEAKER_00]: I got a problem over there. [SPEAKER_00]: I can go deal with him so we can bring them back into compliance. [SPEAKER_01]: You need to defeat someone. [SPEAKER_01]: You bring the, the, the, the little wolves. [SPEAKER_01]: You bring the space wolves. [SPEAKER_01]: If you need a problem, gone, I mean, gone. [SPEAKER_01]: Like there's no, we took the books. [SPEAKER_01]: We burned them. [SPEAKER_01]: We erased all history of them. [SPEAKER_01]: That's when you set the dark angels in the dark angels took care of shit. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, we covered on the horse harris at the beginning of the horse harris, you know, that she before that. [SPEAKER_00]: We just doing it about the work you're saying about the term imperial compliance. [SPEAKER_00]: And so imperial compliance is what the emperor discussed doing, which is how many we're going to, we're going to go out from, from terror and soul. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to re acquire all of our lost, all of our lost brethren, all our lost humanity. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to bring them into imperial compliance where they're going to be part of the imperial. [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to pay a tie to the imperial. [SPEAKER_00]: They do all these things. [SPEAKER_01]: But in this time though, there was still the view that being brought into Imperial compliance, even if there was against your will. [SPEAKER_00]: Was a good thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Was a good thing, and it was going to be better for you than what you had right now. [SPEAKER_00]: However, the Emperor had a secret, but he had a lot of secrets. [SPEAKER_00]: I shouldn't use the word. [SPEAKER_01]: I was saying he had one. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So one of the secrets the Emperor had, and this was that not all worlds, and he knew were viable for Imperial compliance. [SPEAKER_00]: that is what the Dark Angels were for. [SPEAKER_00]: They had to go to planets before anyone knew that they were there or systems and remove everything. [SPEAKER_01]: That's just it not just they again, they weren't there to win. [SPEAKER_01]: They were there to [SPEAKER_01]: They had to erase the, whatever the same was. [SPEAKER_00]: So when people showed up to that planet many years later, they would, oh, this, this civilization, let's hear, they must have gotten killed by Xenos or something, whatever could have happened. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no history whatsoever. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what they did. [SPEAKER_01]: They took care of it. [SPEAKER_01]: And the thing is, is that that's how we started with Dark Angel secrets. [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: Dark Angel are known for keeping their secrets. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're still, they've taken that to the next level. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for shadow time. [SPEAKER_00]: Dark Angel's in secrets. [SPEAKER_00]: Good friends. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're pretty, they're pretty good friends. [SPEAKER_00]: At this time, they were actually known internally amongst the other legions as the Emperor's Angels of Death. [SPEAKER_00]: That's how they called them. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd say angels of death, by the way, for Space Marine players, was Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_01]: If you're Dark Angels player, you can pay yourself on your back. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't get my arms to to show it. [SPEAKER_00]: But your shoulders are too busted. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, either way. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a combination of both. [SPEAKER_01]: But angels of death were first, that dark angels were first. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, everybody's angels of death. [SPEAKER_01]: No, dark angels were the first people to be known as this. [SPEAKER_01]: And they were known. [SPEAKER_01]: Whoa, whoa, whoa. [SPEAKER_01]: Wildly known. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, before the lion met them, before they meet contact with their primar, they were known as a get it done. [SPEAKER_01]: Did not care what happened. [SPEAKER_01]: They did some crazy shit, even in the early days. [SPEAKER_01]: They put things down, but then the thing is, is that in the Dark Angels defense, that's what they were assigned to. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Dark Angels weren't. [SPEAKER_00]: We should be fair to them. [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't like world leaders where they were brutal, because they were brutal, because I got a specific set of directions and it says, hey man, we gotta be assholes. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is just what's happening. [SPEAKER_00]: This is to me when I talked earlier about, I talked shit on the Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: My view point might, my shit talk on Dark Angels excludes exclusive to competitive play for DK. [SPEAKER_00]: The lower of Dark Angels, they are amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: Because as we're talking about this, there were twenty legions and only one of them. [SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor used to do this level of stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: The other nineteen legions were told to go places. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, at the space holes did a bit more aggressively than others, but they were all sent to places and their job was remove the problem, uplift the citizenry, bring them back to us. [SPEAKER_00]: And the dark angels were on team. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that won't get me saved for a minute. [SPEAKER_01]: but also they got handed all of those things. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's a big thing on psychology wise because they never got the easy ones. [SPEAKER_01]: They never got the, hey, take this great world and make them part of the period. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, okay, are you ready for your four hundredth in a row shitty task? [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, I guess, this is just kind of what we, you're like, hey man, I was looking over whatever your other Legion did. [SPEAKER_01]: All of them got zero of what we did. [SPEAKER_00]: The coffee just showed up and when they got there, they were like given like like rings of laurels. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they gave them a parade of parade. [SPEAKER_00]: They got fed and I went. [SPEAKER_00]: Someone had to murder every single thing on it. [SPEAKER_00]: You had to be killing the bugs like for whatever reason. [SPEAKER_01]: I shot so many puppies. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I burned an entire planet because you asked me to. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's not a lot of praise. [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously one of the big pieces about the emperor that we discuss over and over again is the secrets that he kept from everybody else. [SPEAKER_00]: And so a few of his secrets that he had to deal with the first one were in my opinion were Xenos. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone was aware that there were aliens, but not that the aliens were equal or absolute. [SPEAKER_01]: This is one of the biggest things. [SPEAKER_01]: The Emperor kept that there was civilizations of sentient [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm just living my best life aliens. [SPEAKER_01]: Emperor did a lot of cool things, Emperor did a lot of bad things. [SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest things was he was wildly xenophobic. [SPEAKER_01]: It was humanity first and then there was toasters, microwaves, about six hundred other things. [SPEAKER_01]: And then it was anybody else that wasn't human. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of how he viewed everything on that. [SPEAKER_01]: And he treated it as that though, because he went, [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think if there's other Zeno's out there, I can impose my empirical etiquette. [SPEAKER_00]: And the thing about that was it wasn't in Brad's that it really well there. [SPEAKER_00]: It's at the recivalizations. [SPEAKER_00]: It's easy to explain orks to the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, [SPEAKER_00]: which they encountered a mountain that's in the towel weren't there yet, but we can use early towel would have been a good example of this, where they're just trying to live their life in their system. [SPEAKER_00]: We're not bothering anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: That changes this, you're saying, well, we could trade with them. [SPEAKER_00]: We've discussed very briefly before road traders. [SPEAKER_00]: We could do all these things with them. [SPEAKER_00]: The manper is like, well, we can't do that. [SPEAKER_00]: And the easiest way to, for him to do that, is rather than trying to explain to everyone, here's a little dangerous of work, Missinos. [SPEAKER_00]: It just makes it so no one ever meets a Zeno civilization. [SPEAKER_00]: So how do you do that? [SPEAKER_00]: Dark angels. [SPEAKER_01]: You have one of your legions who's in charge of all these special issues. [SPEAKER_00]: And you go out there and you remove them. [SPEAKER_00]: Another one that falls into this is mutants, which did come up a lot to the dark, the dark age of technology. [SPEAKER_01]: True, because you had people, well, they also mutants is a wildly wide scheme because a lot of mutants, I'm doing air quotes right now, are [SPEAKER_01]: people that adapted to live on the world that they were on, they did bioengineering. [SPEAKER_01]: They literally made up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Extra Mark? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, there was multiple races that were left alone for thousands of years. [SPEAKER_01]: And they just basically engineered the populist to be better at the worlds that they were on. [SPEAKER_01]: Was it high gravity? [SPEAKER_01]: Was it this? [SPEAKER_01]: Was it low gravity? [SPEAKER_01]: Do we have to deal with radiation? [SPEAKER_01]: They just made their populist. [SPEAKER_01]: They either adapted [SPEAKER_01]: You know, they basically aren't radiated and just like things happen or because this is the dark age of technology. [SPEAKER_01]: They had the technology just go it would be way cooler if our bones were thicker and we were shorter are we were taller or we were faster. [SPEAKER_01]: We were whatever we were and they had a lot of abhumans and for whatever reason the Emperor decided a couple of them were okay and the ones he decided that weren't okay [SPEAKER_01]: the dark. [SPEAKER_00]: The issue again though is for the emperor is these are very much so humanoid. [SPEAKER_00]: They look very much so like humans. [SPEAKER_00]: They behave like humans and a lot of them were peaceful and had no ill will towards humanity. [SPEAKER_00]: That is not an easy war to wage if anyone knows you're waging it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a very easy war to wage if no one knows you're waging it. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's also okay if everybody that's in part of that, just accepts the fact that sometimes you get to do some terrible, terrible, terrible way to say terrible shit. [SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite ones that they hunted down though, and this is this is actually a little bit complicated to me from a lower, linear, lower standpoint was Thunder Warriors. [SPEAKER_01]: Because weirdly enough, the Thunder Warriors didn't all get killed. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and they also were all only on terror. [SPEAKER_00]: And then it seems like some of them got a little bit of a heads up and got on citizenship. [SPEAKER_00]: Two-stout. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's also, you have to, well, they've done a weird bit of, I don't even say Red County. [SPEAKER_01]: There's just a lot of weird stories that go along with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because there's no actual linear story on this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but like some of the thunderways were like, it looked like some of the thunderways were wildly more intelligent than some of the other other. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there were. [SPEAKER_01]: And yes, in a gene pool, but they were engineered. [SPEAKER_01]: So you would think that they would be similar. [SPEAKER_01]: But it seems like the average Thunder Warrior was barely functional. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And just we're all at the mouth. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll go stab things. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And then there was like your Plato of Thunder Warrior and those guys were like, Hey, man, I'm pretty sure this guy is going to be real done with us real soon. [SPEAKER_00]: And they, and they boogieed out. [SPEAKER_00]: And what's cool about this is mischievous change depending on what the buncher said. [SPEAKER_00]: But it seemed like some Thunder Warriors effectively went off to become planet system wide warlords who were running things and they weren't alone. [SPEAKER_00]: But the problem with Thunder Warriors is they can fight. [SPEAKER_00]: And so what do you do about it? [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they were still full. [SPEAKER_01]: They were everything in Marine was. [SPEAKER_01]: They just weren't. [SPEAKER_01]: what they weren't equal was the intellectual. [SPEAKER_01]: We give the means, you never really give that enough credit. [SPEAKER_01]: An individual marine is still able to instantaneously take in terabytes of data instantaneously and assimilate. [SPEAKER_01]: Thunderways weren't doing that. [SPEAKER_01]: They were super fast, super strong, super agile, great combatants, but they were also [SPEAKER_00]: My opinion, actually, I think the Thunder Warriors were actually better combatants. [SPEAKER_00]: When you look at what they did, I'm going to say the truth. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think a Thunder Warrior versus Space Marine, I think the Thunder Warrior wins. [SPEAKER_00]: I think I think in a combat scenario, I think the Thunder Warrior defeats the Space Marine and combat. [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is that [SPEAKER_00]: Platoon is squadron, a legion of a thunderward's loses. [SPEAKER_00]: It's rude away to that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's the same thing when you're like, hey, what happens when a Roman legion fought a bunch of tough individual dudes? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, they lost. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, every individual, the Romans and Sherrians would lose to the barbarians, but the Roman legion itself would conquer the barbarians every times. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one on one, this sucks. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a cool side story that, yeah, the Thunder Wars do reappear in Dark Angel lore as a, well, we have to go deal with this. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they reappeared. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they quickly moved from the lore again. [SPEAKER_01]: They were like, hey guys, we're not done with our story and the dark ages went, yeah, you are. [SPEAKER_00]: Like you're pretty real done. [SPEAKER_00]: One side note here with this, and we touched this a few times. [SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor made weapons illegal. [SPEAKER_00]: There were certain things that Space Marines weren't like that. [SPEAKER_00]: No one was supposed to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's a, well, let's, whoa, whoa, whoa. [SPEAKER_01]: One of us is really just kind of rolling over some shit. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, man, we found some weapons of mass destruction. [SPEAKER_01]: The Dark Angels had access to Iron Man for one, which were, you know, the thing that was outlawed, the thing that almost destroyed humanity, completely the AI versions that were, I don't know, invulnerable to all psychic attacks could literally go through any defenses. [SPEAKER_01]: They had a bunch of those. [SPEAKER_01]: They also had a whole shit load of, [SPEAKER_01]: bombs, which were like, they went, hey, man, the Geneva convention says we're not allowed to use these. [SPEAKER_01]: And everybody went, yes, and the Dark Angels left and looked at the Emperor went, we're still going to use those, right? [SPEAKER_00]: So here's the thing, like, no one knows we use them because everyone would use them on his dead. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a tree falling in the woods. [SPEAKER_00]: If no one's around, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Woo, yet it can give this a culture though. [SPEAKER_01]: Only the upper people know that we're using these two. [SPEAKER_01]: The rest of the dark angels. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_01]: Do not know that this should exist. [SPEAKER_01]: They just know that sometimes shit went down and we won. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, we can leave now. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, what are we just about to fight? [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, we're not going to do anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: Why? [SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to ask those kind of questions. [SPEAKER_00]: And Brad touched the story and was talking about how they would just go and wipe out planets. [SPEAKER_00]: Like one thing they would do is they just irradiate an entire planet. [SPEAKER_00]: People will come through later, like, oh, there must have been an issue with their son. [SPEAKER_00]: No, the dark angels came through and used radweapons and irradiated the entire plants of everything's there. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say that if I had an option of being irradiated with a radweapon, which were, by the way, not supposed to be used. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather have happened than that. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather not have be virus bombed. [SPEAKER_01]: The other very fun one, which basically made Vx gas look like cool. [SPEAKER_00]: The virus bomb we did covering horse heresy, but just as a recap, virus bomb goes down, it takes the any organic material it touches, it turns into methane, then they drop a fire bomb at that. [SPEAKER_00]: So the whole planet turns into a cloud of flammable gas that they then light on fire. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, it's pretty effective. [SPEAKER_00]: Very effective. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a good system. [SPEAKER_00]: These are things they also would use nuclear weapons, I guess when they were being cute. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is funny because no one use those anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: Because one, they weren't as effective as most of the other shit they had. [SPEAKER_01]: But also nuclear weapons, a new splash in case you didn't know, are kind of shitty and dirty in wreck things. [SPEAKER_01]: And most people didn't want to use them because they wanted the planet after. [SPEAKER_01]: even like virus bombing, something destroyed everything. [SPEAKER_01]: He still just had a plan. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, you go through your terraform it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's say I virus bomb it and I go through later brings a bunch of machines down and you drop it down and you're like, cool, you're like, if I drop the nook down, it makes everything suck for a while. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they did also use rad. [SPEAKER_00]: They also did a radite, the planets, which probably [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is also, that again is because you're supposed to be, that's when you're, you're playing a hitman and you're supposed to make it look like an accident. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They're like, oh, there's some must to win. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, super nervous. [SPEAKER_00]: That's I'm a, I guess well, don't worry guys, we'll, we'll build a new radiation shield. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know what happened. [SPEAKER_00]: That's crazy, guys. [SPEAKER_00]: But that was the, that, that exactly line of the brightest use. [SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly what, with the dark angels did. [SPEAKER_00]: Their idea was someone would come through later to say, man, something bad must have happened here. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so unfortunate for these people. [SPEAKER_00]: And they, and they have no idea, we did it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: And a lot, by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So one of the biggest things is if you want to talk about coolness of the chapter, because they were the first, they just invented a bunch of the tactics. [SPEAKER_01]: They had a bunch of good tactics. [SPEAKER_01]: They had a bunch of bad tactics, guys. [SPEAKER_01]: You have to take the good with a bad, but they were the originators of a lot of how Marines fight right now. [SPEAKER_01]: Because the Thunder Warriors were wildly brutal and also weren't known for tactics. [SPEAKER_01]: And the Dark Angels were. [SPEAKER_01]: They were originated a lot of this. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, how do you fight and be the most effective with guys that are bigger faster stronger and more intelligent? [SPEAKER_01]: That even is more intelligent. [SPEAKER_01]: You took in information faster than everybody else. [SPEAKER_01]: I can understand the battlefield at an instant where you just see bombs going off. [SPEAKER_01]: I see a bomb went off. [SPEAKER_01]: That guy's over there. [SPEAKER_01]: The supply depots here. [SPEAKER_01]: This guy's going to be shooting me. [SPEAKER_01]: You're taking in a hundred different factors. [SPEAKER_01]: How do I maximize that? [SPEAKER_01]: And the darkening just started using that, hey, my guys are just smarter. [SPEAKER_01]: They can take in more things. [SPEAKER_01]: That means that we can use tactics that nobody else right now can use. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're also fighting enemies that no one else is fighting. [SPEAKER_00]: So they're getting that real practice on, as we said before, the rest of the other nineteen legions, this was worth them fighting works. [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, we're more than these. [SPEAKER_00]: But they're not fighting what I would call take all commerce wars, whereas [SPEAKER_00]: the wolves, the blood angels, the rest of them, they're fighting other largely humans, where they're fighting, sometimes they're fighting. [SPEAKER_00]: Orks obviously, it's random things here and there, but what they're really trying to do is they're trying to conquer a plant. [SPEAKER_00]: The dark angels are fighting to eliminate. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's a different type of tactic. [SPEAKER_00]: But because of the way that's brought me to saying, what's cool is that the Dark Angels learn these tactics, they then get shared back to the rest of the league. [SPEAKER_00]: Who don't ever ask any questions of how anyone knows this? [SPEAKER_00]: Because those are questions you don't ask. [SPEAKER_00]: How do you practice that? [SPEAKER_00]: This seems really effective. [SPEAKER_00]: You guys should make this up? [SPEAKER_01]: Drawing board? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally drawing board. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all board games. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't ask. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't ask. [SPEAKER_00]: No more questions. [SPEAKER_01]: So shit went down. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about it. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about it. [SPEAKER_00]: We're good. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_00]: Another really cool thing about the first legion is where they come from, from a gene seed stand. [SPEAKER_01]: Later, all Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's is important because they were Terra is a litness. [SPEAKER_00]: This is important for some of the problems they were going to do later. [SPEAKER_00]: In order to make a space marine, as we've said before, we'll do it again. [SPEAKER_00]: You take [SPEAKER_00]: organs that have a gene seed implanted inside of them, even certain those organs inside of the person. [SPEAKER_01]: To be fair, you also hope for the best. [SPEAKER_00]: And hope for the best, yeah? [SPEAKER_01]: Because like, there's a lot of people that die. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, one of the key things though about this is you need people whose genetic code is largely pure to put these things in there. [SPEAKER_00]: Tara has been at war at this point for thousands of years. [SPEAKER_01]: Those wars used after the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end of the dark end [SPEAKER_00]: is gone. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just a rock. [SPEAKER_00]: And so what happens is you've had nuclear weapons, biological weapons, chemical weapons, all these things, that doesn't make for great genetic codes, like spoiler alert. [SPEAKER_00]: So one of the challenges the dark angels do have, and I bring this up because it's going to be really key later. [SPEAKER_00]: is that the dark angels have an impure genetic background, which creates some faults that I'm foreshadowing to later, but we want to bring it up. [SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest things though is that they do get an impetus to find their primar. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: At this point in time, they're like, you know what would make our genetics better? [SPEAKER_01]: If we get the source, the pure source, which is our primer, which leads them to really want to find the primer, which they don't go against the Emperor and make him do anything else. [SPEAKER_01]: But they kind of get, I don't know if they say they want to get a fire started underneath them. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think a lot of it, McCubris bit later is that the other primarks were found first. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they are the seventh. [SPEAKER_00]: They're the first Legion, but they're nowhere near the line. [SPEAKER_00]: No one of the first primarks found. [SPEAKER_01]: No, he's weighed on the one. [SPEAKER_01]: And they become, I don't think they become worried because they didn't make the Emperor do shit because they were very loyal. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But it was one of those, I think, they don't really go into it, but you get the set without saying, kind of thing of, and I think the Emperor made it a thing where, okay, I'm gonna figure this shit out. [SPEAKER_00]: We've been talking now a lot about some of the stuff that they did more in the ether, and I think a really good story for us to dive into now is an example of, [SPEAKER_00]: what the Dark Angel did. [SPEAKER_00]: And the first one that we want to kind of dig into is the Rangda. [SPEAKER_00]: This is Rangda. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, three fights. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, we have three, there's a story lines. [SPEAKER_00]: The third was not a fight. [SPEAKER_00]: The third was not a fight. [SPEAKER_00]: As we get into, I mean, with the third of millennia, the imperial fleets on the Eastern French run into a, what I would politely but notice a Xenos problem. [SPEAKER_01]: For use of the right, it was only a Xenos problem. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess it was a problem. [SPEAKER_01]: So if the ranked in our literally psychic Xenos who get more power, they literally level up. [SPEAKER_01]: when they kill shit and get more powerful. [SPEAKER_00]: It works for me, Eldar. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And they become individually, some of these are just primarclable. [SPEAKER_01]: They're just legitimately, hey man, I've been XB in this entire time. [SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm a warp entity, which is before they know the warp entities exist. [SPEAKER_01]: But they get a bunch of juiced up dudes. [SPEAKER_01]: And in the first [SPEAKER_00]: War, because it's all the, it's called the, the rank, the sense of the issue is that when you're into it, these are all perished imperial records. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: So you don't even know exactly what they look like. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just that they have stories of them being several of them being, quote, larger than primarx. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And more, well, no, what they actually said was more physically powerful. [SPEAKER_00]: And the ranked in all so they were slavery race. [SPEAKER_00]: So they would conquer planets, human and Z-nose. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they would psychically enslave them. [SPEAKER_00]: They were the Republicans. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they would use these with them. [SPEAKER_00]: So this is the eastern fringe of the empire, which is an error continues to be a problem. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have him to the forty first. [SPEAKER_01]: He's in French has been a shit show. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's in French. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a mission's over there. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: There's been a couple of little problems here and there. [SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor actually initially is not doesn't just commit the Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: He just commits forces over there and they can't seem to break through. [SPEAKER_01]: The first, I was just saying the first war, because there's three different engagement timelines. [SPEAKER_01]: In the first, sorry, Imperian Lawyers, I read a ton of stuff on this. [SPEAKER_01]: No, really, because I'm sorry, but the Imperian gets it to ask it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yo, yeah, it was, it was, it was, you know, I don't know, like always, you know, side they were fine. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they got rocked. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they took, yes, the dark age of the last fifty thousand, not, [SPEAKER_01]: people marines during this whole engagement. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's also the the Crave. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll get in that. [SPEAKER_01]: But I've said over a period of time, and not that long of a period of time, they lose an incredible amount of marines. [SPEAKER_01]: And the best part is I love when you look at the lore. [SPEAKER_01]: of the legions, because they're always like, we lost this many Marines. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, what is that translated into like regular imperial guard bodies? [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, oh, yeah, we lost like billions of that. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, those guys are all that. [SPEAKER_01]: Those guys are in smoke. [SPEAKER_01]: Like we were throwing stuff coming. [SPEAKER_01]: We were throwing them in the wood shipper, hoping that the wood shipper would jam on the bodies. [SPEAKER_01]: They were just losing until we, the rangden were just [SPEAKER_01]: rushing. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, we're real big on capturing anything from humans. [SPEAKER_01]: They were just murdering. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they were just trying to hit. [SPEAKER_00]: And so the first word around and just. [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't go well. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to take a side note of the Rangden that I put some notes here that I think are important is that up until this point of the Rangden, even for the I think the Emperor, the interaction with Xenos was in quotations easy. [SPEAKER_00]: They were all conquerable. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's because the Orcs are disorganized. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a specifically disorganized also the elder were keeping the arts disorganized. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, if this stage the elder is died, the works haven't come. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the works are, sorry, the elder are really from they took a pretty big. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they, they he was ninety eight percent of those. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the elder just took a seven hundred thousand to zero loss in football. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's in halftime. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not doing great right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Did you car or you're just starting to peek out and for those of you on a wear, the tyranny's aren't in the galaxy yet. [SPEAKER_00]: No, that clones are asleep. [SPEAKER_00]: There is nothing out there. [SPEAKER_00]: So these Rangan, they hit them and it's like, okay, what's the Zenos go deal with it? [SPEAKER_00]: We'll just figure it out. [SPEAKER_00]: And the Rangan are not what people think. [SPEAKER_00]: And they are ruined them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they are incredibly organized. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they're incredibly organized, they're technologically savvy, and they're also psychically powerful. [SPEAKER_00]: And what ends up happening is not only do they're ranked in defeat, the dark windows, the money come in there. [SPEAKER_00]: They're ranked in, then pursue them back in, and they don't just pursue them. [SPEAKER_01]: They start taking sectors, not systems sectors away, which is part of the galaxy. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, like, we didn't take a couple planets away. [SPEAKER_01]: They were taking whole areas. [SPEAKER_00]: And this marks the first loss that the first legion had had. [SPEAKER_01]: That is true, actually, that they had lost, they had a real loss. [SPEAKER_01]: And this was a huge way. [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't just take it a loss like, hey, we got to retreat. [SPEAKER_01]: They went, hey, man, we lost like most of our Marines. [SPEAKER_00]: Which then leads to the second war of the right man. [SPEAKER_00]: But Brad mentioned earlier, we talked about this, how the dark angels [SPEAKER_00]: really felt the long for their primar. [SPEAKER_00]: This war is why, because the ultramarines and the Luna wolves joined the Dark Angels in fighting the Rangdon, with their primarines, with Gilliman and Horace, which is pretty inspiring. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, again, the primarics are superhuman even to other marines. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're like, hey man, here's the squadron and Marines and the primarcos. [SPEAKER_01]: I love my guys, but also none of those guys would do anything to me. [SPEAKER_00]: And now the dark angels are watching the all trimmerings and the loonables perform their tactics and all honestly better than they ever performed. [SPEAKER_01]: But wildly better because also all you have a genetic imperative in all the Marines to effectively [SPEAKER_01]: love their primarq do better with their primarq and they're psychically connected to their primarqs so they they legitimately perform better not just because they're trying to press their primarq because their primarq is literally magically create you know juicing them off. [SPEAKER_00]: He's leveling them up. [SPEAKER_00]: It's actually like it's not like with orcs is the same thing happens with orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: You put enough them together. [SPEAKER_00]: They actually start fighting better. [SPEAKER_00]: And so the dark angels now are they are watching this war the the enemy that defeated them. [SPEAKER_00]: you're now being defeated by their quote unquote brothers because they are by allegiance who they used to be better than why why all the other than what are we missing it's because we're we're missing a primary and lines got one of the coolest [SPEAKER_00]: Interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean dark angels lore is amazing guys, so let's let's dig into it. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's pivot from that. [SPEAKER_00]: Now I think we give you the history just to kind of sum it up again. [SPEAKER_00]: The dark angels at this stage before getting this text piece were the Emperor's dirty force. [SPEAKER_00]: He used them for just killing anything and everything. [SPEAKER_00]: They are they are pushing their way towards almost an evil level of force. [SPEAKER_01]: At the time, they're also, they don't want people to talk to them. [SPEAKER_01]: So they're covered in skulls and they adorn themselves with skulls and pieces of other zenos bodies to have other people go because they're trying to keep their secrets. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, quotes on that, but that is what the Dark Angels, that the time we're known for, is adoring themselves with fallen foes to make other legions, other people not talk to them, so they didn't have a problem keeping their secrets. [SPEAKER_00]: But as we're in this origin story, you'll notice that the Dark Angels, anyone who plays a game currently, they're not the nightharts. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not the world leaders. [SPEAKER_00]: So how do you, in quotations, fix a Legion that is kind of evil in its process? [SPEAKER_00]: you give them a paladin to lead them. [SPEAKER_00]: And that is what the lion is. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's paladin. [SPEAKER_00]: He's lawful neutral. [SPEAKER_00]: I use the word paladin intentionally to annoy Brad because Brad really does. [SPEAKER_01]: Nerd it up here. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's also because Brad already has a paladin primarca. [SPEAKER_01]: He cares so much. [SPEAKER_00]: He cares massive. [SPEAKER_01]: He's lawful good. [SPEAKER_01]: The lion is lawful neutral. [SPEAKER_01]: He's not lawful good. [SPEAKER_00]: So rather than get yelled at anymore, we will move on. [SPEAKER_01]: So the the products all primaries were, we talked about this before. [SPEAKER_01]: We're jettisoned by the entities of chaos to everywhere random plants in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_01]: The line ended up in Calaban. [SPEAKER_01]: which was, I mean, I guess it was just a lie for at about that point. [SPEAKER_01]: It was just outside the hunter. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But it was basically the iron there. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: It was literally King Arthur style. [SPEAKER_01]: It was run by feudal lords and also you have to give it a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: The lion does awesome, but the lion also has a really great [SPEAKER_01]: upbringing. [SPEAKER_01]: He's immediately adopted by another night, Luther, and who raises him has his own, and, well, weirdly enough, he's a primar. [SPEAKER_01]: He starts wrecking all these warp beasts. [SPEAKER_01]: that are there because they go on hunts. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's dive into this. [SPEAKER_00]: So Caliban is a planet that can see the eye of terror. [SPEAKER_01]: It is literally, you can look up on the night sky and go, well, that's not right. [SPEAKER_00]: That's probably not good. [SPEAKER_00]: And as a result of its location, it's a, it's a forest wall. [SPEAKER_00]: It's England. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just is England. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a planet. [SPEAKER_01]: It's literally, it's King Arthur. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a Celtic, it's the whole, it of course is like Star Wars. [SPEAKER_01]: The whole planet for some reason is the exact same type of [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they don't have any heat levels. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no rotation. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just all for us. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all for us. [SPEAKER_00]: And in this forest all over the place are all the beasts are juiced up. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, super. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're talking about that. [SPEAKER_01]: They're basically fall out, ran it up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just becer crazy and he proves himself. [SPEAKER_01]: He literally kills beast after beast, but also he's doing it in [SPEAKER_01]: a lawfully, but biting by every rule that they have. [SPEAKER_00]: The Calaband Knights had rules. [SPEAKER_00]: The Knights of Calaband, Brett said, well, the King Arthur, their goal was if you became a Knight on Calaband, your job was to protect the citizenry. [SPEAKER_00]: In the way you protect the citizenry, as you would go out from your fortresses and kill the, you're going to have to work. [SPEAKER_00]: You stay and hunt them down. [SPEAKER_00]: And the lion, this is a primarque. [SPEAKER_00]: Really damn good. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was wildly the best. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, really damn good at this. [SPEAKER_00]: And he would just, you know, he would kill more than anyone else did. [SPEAKER_00]: It was in he had strategy. [SPEAKER_00]: He also brought a different style to it. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's doing this whole time with a guy named Luther who is insanely important for the stories of the dark angel foreshadowing stuff happens. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But he's effectively is adopted dead. [SPEAKER_01]: But he also teaches him everything he knows about. [SPEAKER_01]: the nightly the kelvin nightly code, which is the basically the king Arthur code it is the king Arthur code of nights they have them they they I mean he they just gangster everything from the king Arthur mythos they have a round table they you know what I mean everybody has a say and he's [SPEAKER_01]: He's the best at being the best. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, live line on Caliband is the best at being the grim. [SPEAKER_01]: I do the things that have to be done. [SPEAKER_01]: And I also follow every rule to the letter, which is a big deal later on because he follows them. [SPEAKER_01]: But he's also brutal when he has to be brutal, but he has proper intentions. [SPEAKER_01]: Hence the reason he's left on the neutral. [SPEAKER_01]: But he does bad shit, but he always does bad shit inside the letter of the law, always the letter of the law. [SPEAKER_01]: And also he doesn't in such a way that he's actually trying to be the greater good. [SPEAKER_01]: He makes tough decisions all the time. [SPEAKER_01]: to like, hey, I have your best interest in mine. [SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes the best interest of everyone is if you get scratched. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I do have a lot of complaints about some of the writing that comes into this. [SPEAKER_00]: But one of the ones I did have complain about is that when you read the lore, you read the story, especially the book, they talk about him and Luther kind of coming up together in doing these. [SPEAKER_00]: And they were a buddy team. [SPEAKER_00]: And my issue with that is that one of them is a prime mark. [SPEAKER_00]: And the other one is a dude, some dude, who would have otherwise been an imperial guardsman. [SPEAKER_00]: They've talked about the stories talking about them, like going on hunts together stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to date myself here is this reminds me of the movie Twins. [SPEAKER_00]: in that the line has on his Schwarzenegger and Luther is dying to be known. [SPEAKER_00]: It is that because that is, I'm not saying that that's how it says. [SPEAKER_00]: But visually, that's what this would have looked like. [SPEAKER_01]: True story, but Luther is his intellectual mentor. [SPEAKER_00]: But not in any way, shape or form. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, physically, no. [SPEAKER_00]: But also, he thought his intellectual equal, either. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, we're talking about me. [SPEAKER_00]: Perfect creature and his buddy. [SPEAKER_01]: But his buddies like his philosophical guide. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm still going with no Luther. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Fine. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can't have Luther. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't have the story line unless you have a Luther. [SPEAKER_00]: I get that, but there's just I'm just going to state this for the record for anyone who hasn't figured this out. [SPEAKER_00]: You should probably think about that for a minute. [SPEAKER_00]: That's entire story's based around again. [SPEAKER_00]: Two years a dude who is a regular human being being bodied up with a primal. [SPEAKER_00]: I love viewing them each other even as an equal. [SPEAKER_01]: I do love the fact that they rise the ranks together. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, I think one of these guys is carrying the load a little more. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they rose to the ranks together. [SPEAKER_00]: And what you want to just, they would have walked into a room, one of them's at least two feet taller than the other one. [SPEAKER_00]: Because at this point, it's put the line is full. [SPEAKER_00]: He's an adult. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's full of him. [SPEAKER_00]: He's two feet taller, probably a foot and a half to two feet wider. [SPEAKER_00]: And just this giant who's unarmed killing work beasts and the other one is Luther. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not mine. [SPEAKER_00]: He's just interceptable. [SPEAKER_00]: He's just there. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, hey, oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I was I was also there, too. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, you probably carried the day. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, Luther. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, what did you do? [SPEAKER_00]: I wrangle the horses. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: What gets where this becomes important, though, is the lion and of course, Luther have written all the ranks and they decide that it's time to actually fix Caliban permanently. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to fix it by killing every single piece. [SPEAKER_01]: And they basically make a great crusade. [SPEAKER_01]: They do their own crusade. [SPEAKER_01]: They have their own crusade. [SPEAKER_01]: And they scour the planet of bees. [SPEAKER_01]: They ally all the nights together. [SPEAKER_01]: All of the night the orders get together under the one king, which is the line, and they all rally behind him, and they just kind of go, hey, let's just go east and murder face every single beast on this entire planet, and they do it in a pretty, by the way, the stories are pretty awesome. [SPEAKER_01]: The stories, the stories, the stories, the stories, the stories, the stories are actually pretty awesome, to be honest. [SPEAKER_01]: So, but like, they do just go, we're gonna ruin everything, which way? [SPEAKER_00]: That way. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll just go east. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, what about the ones in the west? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we're coming all the way around. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going the whole way, guys. [SPEAKER_00]: And you do it. [SPEAKER_00]: For the first time since the sky exploded. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go plan it. [SPEAKER_01]: So for the first time since you looked up into the nighttime sky and went, [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, man, that sucks a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm scared to scare you up that door. [SPEAKER_00]: The planet is rid of the humans on the planet that can cut the forest down. [SPEAKER_00]: They can leave their fortresses. [SPEAKER_00]: They can farm. [SPEAKER_00]: They can do all this stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: This planet now went from what was actually labeled as a death world before this all happened because if you went there, you just would die to now be a garden world. [SPEAKER_00]: That's how powerful what he just did was. [SPEAKER_01]: And they also party like it was nineteen ninety nine. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And they went. [SPEAKER_00]: They had a huge party. [SPEAKER_00]: At which point the Emperor shows up. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on. [SPEAKER_00]: We will talk about Luther. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: So they conquer the planet. [SPEAKER_00]: They being the lion with a bunch of with Luther and a bunch of other people Luther was nearby. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just mean like, you have a workpiece. [SPEAKER_00]: How many workbeasts does the lion kill? [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Luther is like stabbing the one that's on the ground half dead. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean Luther does get jealous because the the line is literally declared Chief Big Wampa awesome mega dude of all time. [SPEAKER_00]: He's elevated to Supreme Grand Master. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean he's he gets a big title. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so assuming his hats bigger than everybody [SPEAKER_00]: And Luther, of course, gets upset that the person who's too feet taller than him, too feet wider and did almost all the killing seems to be getting more of the credit than he got. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, also to do who thought of the whole thing, extrude the whole thing, designed all the plans, organized it. [SPEAKER_00]: That person is getting more credit than Luther is. [SPEAKER_01]: Also united all of the night. [SPEAKER_00]: The orders. [SPEAKER_00]: But Luther was present in the meetings. [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, that's how this should go. [SPEAKER_00]: So Luther is at this point getting jealous and he's upset that it ain't seconds later. [SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor shows up at this exact moment. [SPEAKER_01]: And the Emperor's like, hey, I need a lion. [SPEAKER_00]: And the lion immediately goes, yeah, you do need me. [SPEAKER_01]: And he goes, hey, there's another guy that's actually my size. [SPEAKER_00]: I probably am closer to this guy than that. [SPEAKER_00]: And the lion is brought into the Legion. [SPEAKER_00]: I actually like what this next piece looks. [SPEAKER_00]: We talk about how good the lion is. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is one of those things I like about it. [SPEAKER_01]: I love this story, but I hate this story because he effectively just takes children and goes, all right, I need the toughest freshman. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: With the lion does is he looks at this region of murderous and says, and this is, it could be, this is very tackling intelligent. [SPEAKER_00]: The emperor comes in, brings a lion up and says, this is your leech. [SPEAKER_00]: Look, so at first legion, and it is a bunch of just. [SPEAKER_00]: And these guys have been through some shit. [SPEAKER_00]: And they are violent, they are this thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And the rather than just come in there and say, well, I'm in charge, listen to me. [SPEAKER_01]: He says, I'm going to earn it, which again, which is why I'm going to give you, which is the yes he did. [SPEAKER_01]: However, he also said, [SPEAKER_01]: All right, freshman class of the first company, who's the toughest freshman? [SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, I guess Ted is, and they're like, I challenged Ted to combat. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, I guess, but like, I feel like I'm gonna get my ass kicked. [SPEAKER_00]: And they did. [SPEAKER_00]: But guy of line credit here. [SPEAKER_00]: The first guy he fought was in Terminator Armored. [SPEAKER_00]: True. [SPEAKER_00]: And the line was wearing a T-shirt. [SPEAKER_00]: T-shirt. [SPEAKER_00]: And true. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I was literally wearing a, I've just been a Caliban, and all I got was this dumb T-shirt. [SPEAKER_01]: And he ruined the guy in Terminator armor. [SPEAKER_01]: He just Chuck Norris kicked him in the head. [SPEAKER_00]: And I love the story because we're going to do this with Space Wolves. [SPEAKER_00]: This story happens again. [SPEAKER_00]: The rest of this is actually a little bit even cooler. [SPEAKER_00]: Leave the rest of the lions is more honorable. [SPEAKER_00]: The human rest is just more like, woo! [SPEAKER_00]: Hard to go on. [SPEAKER_00]: Who wants to who wants some of this? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty wasted right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Lehman Ross wants more like the scene of the very first X man when Wolverine's fighting in the cage. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, if you guys want to fight me, I'm in here. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm in here just like, but like he challenges each one to combat and he's wearing beautiful shorts and a t-shirt and flip flops. [SPEAKER_01]: And he just have to go the entire way down because he originally his whole thing was he's going to fight [SPEAKER_01]: the best guy in each company and then eventually they're like, we got it man, you're awesome. [SPEAKER_01]: And we are super excited to have you right about the time you beat the Terminator, everybody else is like, I don't really know if I need to make my turn. [SPEAKER_00]: What else do we want to do? [SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to fight just a land Raider? [SPEAKER_01]: like this dude's pretty bad ass and he almost immediately gets the loyalty of the men because remember the dark angels are all about results exactly and when he [SPEAKER_01]: gets down with this. [SPEAKER_01]: He shows them. [SPEAKER_01]: I am the strongest. [SPEAKER_01]: I will give you better results. [SPEAKER_01]: And again, remember, they just suffered a horrible defeat. [SPEAKER_01]: And they showed their brothers fighting with their primar. [SPEAKER_01]: in winning and they just had their primary show up into them. [SPEAKER_01]: This guy's wildly better than anybody else they've seen. [SPEAKER_01]: They saw the other primarks fighting. [SPEAKER_01]: They just showed up and saw the guy that took on our best while he was wearing board shorts and flip flops and he ruined them. [SPEAKER_01]: We are now going to be we're going to be in [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we were already wrecking without this. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, we are basically unlocking all the secret power. [SPEAKER_01]: We just did up down up down XYZ. [SPEAKER_01]: We have unlocked all the cheat codes. [SPEAKER_01]: Our primarx here. [SPEAKER_01]: We are the first Legion. [SPEAKER_01]: We are the best. [SPEAKER_01]: We're back to being the best. [SPEAKER_00]: And the key piece about this is, man, the level of foreshadowing, we're throwing on this episode is heavy. [SPEAKER_00]: As we discussed earlier, the dark angels were probably the most inquitations evil, Legion, within the damper head. [SPEAKER_00]: He was using them to do horrible things. [SPEAKER_00]: As Brad said, they would head skulls on them, and not in the, like, I'm Goth sent in an actual, like, no, look, the predator where I'm gonna carry around tokens of all the things I've ruined. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what they were. [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is that you start going on that path far enough, and you have a real issue, because now you can't become evil. [SPEAKER_00]: So here comes the lion, who is a better fighter than they are, and he brings with him the rules of the night. [SPEAKER_01]: He puts a code. [SPEAKER_00]: And this, for the most part, whips the legion back the other side. [SPEAKER_01]: They go from being this kind of, well, there's still willing to do what needs to be done, because also the lion is a guy that is also, I'm willing to do what's needs to be done. [SPEAKER_01]: But we should do it with rules. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: And he isn't like, hey man, you don't need to do terrible shit. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, we should do terrible shit with a structure of code. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, how is that code going to work out? [SPEAKER_01]: In the end, real bendable. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't worry, we're going to get there later. [SPEAKER_00]: But for now, he brings the legion back into what can now be brought. [SPEAKER_00]: Effectively, you now could bring the dark angels to the same party that you brought the other way you do because we're skipping over a little bit though. [SPEAKER_01]: The light I actually have to do this because people will throw rocks at us so we don't [SPEAKER_01]: The lion actually puts together a rigid command structure. [SPEAKER_01]: He puts together a circle, eventually in a circle, but he brings together a circles of [SPEAKER_01]: hierarchy, hierarchy of circles, who's in command, who's in what circle, what they need to know, what they don't need to know, but he gives them a firm code of everybody gets a code, but then he also gives them, because he comes from a feudal planet. [SPEAKER_01]: So he literally turns the Dark Angels into a hierarchy system of these guys are in charge. [SPEAKER_01]: These guys need to delve this. [SPEAKER_01]: You need to just do this. [SPEAKER_01]: And it becomes a, we're going to do some shit. [SPEAKER_01]: People are going to need to know why you need to just do what you need to do and believe in these people. [SPEAKER_01]: Add the dark angels. [SPEAKER_01]: grab onto that hardcore because before it was just we're doing jacked up shit because the emperor told us to we're not really sure why now we've got this code in a place and we literally have the guy that is our our genetic father with us. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's go Stu, whatever he says why not and they [SPEAKER_01]: jump in like holy like fully emerged. [SPEAKER_01]: They abaptized on this and just go in and they are now. [SPEAKER_01]: This is our guy. [SPEAKER_01]: We're doing whatever the hell he says. [SPEAKER_01]: And at this point in time to be perfectly honest, it's a side note, but I really think they if the lion just decided we're going to punch the emperor right in the face. [SPEAKER_01]: The entire legion would be like, all right. [SPEAKER_00]: One thing we're also this does the helps Legion out a lot now is they also now get a recruiting plan which is I mean that we haven't really touch them because our first space we injected. [SPEAKER_01]: Well they go from a non-devastated planet to where they start recruiting from Calaban. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, and one of the people that they do recruit, and this, it's interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: So throughout the legions, as we discussed, we talked about the horse heresy. [SPEAKER_00]: One of the biggest problems he's going to run into is when someone is too old to become a space marine, and they kind of do it sort of anyway, and they do this with a Luther. [SPEAKER_00]: And if you can't figure out where we're going with Luther, that's on you. [SPEAKER_00]: But Luther actually gets through everything. [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't get the gene implants. [SPEAKER_00]: He just gets all the steroids to make himself bigger, stronger, faster. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, more. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, the weird thing is his Caliban becomes Caliban. [SPEAKER_01]: But Caliban becomes like a kind of a shadow of its former self because they take all of the nights. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, one hundred people, a hundred of them, it's all our elevated. [SPEAKER_00]: Those who are too old, like Luther are given all the performance and dancing drugs to make them dance based on their space marine light, but all the ones who were young after us, but what this does is this now creates a core recruiting plan, because as we said before, they lost over fifty percent of their force fighting, grinding them, grinding them, which I'm sure we're still saying wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: Now they can replenish their forces and it's coming from the world that they come from. [SPEAKER_00]: Everything is now lined up for their success. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a big deal here because everything seems to be going their way to be out of the team. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's why we're going to stop this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Everything's going the dark into swing is going there. [SPEAKER_01]: Wait, hold on a second. [SPEAKER_01]: It might not. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to do the dark rival peaking. [SPEAKER_00]: Things might get a little bit worse than the next episode. [SPEAKER_01]: But right now, shit's going great. [SPEAKER_00]: Things are going great. [SPEAKER_00]: The dark angels, but just a recap end of the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: I like to end a little recaps on this. [SPEAKER_00]: The dark angels were the first legion. [SPEAKER_00]: They were used to do all of the worst things the Emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: I think we're done playing it though. [SPEAKER_01]: Remember when we were recapping, they didn't do all of the shit. [SPEAKER_01]: They did genocidal shit. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And they also did genocidal shit that no one needed. [SPEAKER_01]: You're doing stuff that no one, you're not allowed to tell anybody else. [SPEAKER_01]: It's so shitty. [SPEAKER_01]: You're not allowed to say it to anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: They are, so they are masters of secrecy. [SPEAKER_00]: They're masters of killing. [SPEAKER_00]: They're masters of murder. [SPEAKER_00]: And, but they were starting to fall apart. [SPEAKER_00]: They took their first big loss. [SPEAKER_00]: They did. [SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't a big, it was a catastrophic loss. [SPEAKER_00]: They took their first loss, which happened to be a catastrophic loss. [SPEAKER_01]: They were twenty and oh, they went into a fight and they got knocked out where they woke up a month later. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, should we win the fight? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: And so now, though, they've got a primarke to lead them who has earned all of their loyalty. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got recruiting planet to reach the refill their lesion. [SPEAKER_00]: And they are ready to get something to take. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they've also got a code to live by giving them a reason to do these bad things, which is a big deal for a lot of the Dark Angels because they now have a [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I'm doing these bad things, but it's because it's the greater the town. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the greater good. [SPEAKER_01]: But it is. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the, we haven't, you're going to use town, not hot fuzz. [SPEAKER_00]: Or you got to use hot fuzz. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's a big deal on that because these guys have a focus now because he got the loyalty so much of these guys because he told them we're going to do things and here's our code of why we're able to do these things because sometimes you have to do bad things as long as it follows the code. [SPEAKER_01]: And they live by that. [SPEAKER_01]: They're like, okay, and you get them in the line. [SPEAKER_01]: They become not the guys with skulls on them. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to end with that. [SPEAKER_01]: The line actually gets rid of it. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: He's just like, hey man, like, you look insane. [SPEAKER_01]: Get rid of all your crazy shit. [SPEAKER_00]: Clean that up. [SPEAKER_00]: On our next episode, we're going to go into some of the stuff we didn't mention about Kalavan. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of the dark secrets of Kalavan. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's Dagobot. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, and then some of the other challenges they had that are sitting within their own Legion and how they manifest and take us all the way up to, I would say, Warhammer, Forty K. Pre-Seven Months ago. [SPEAKER_00]: For those who don't realize the lion, if I'm this in the future, the lion only returned to warhammer forty-day in the year twenty twenty-three. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Literally. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: He's he's just actually back. [SPEAKER_00]: So in the next episode, we're going to cover. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to kind of finalize our lower coverage from Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: In the third episode, we're going to talk more about the actual faction. [SPEAKER_00]: Why they're fun to play some of the cool elements about it. [SPEAKER_00]: They kind of talk about why you should play Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_00]: and how the lore has manifested itself into the actual gameplay in the units. [SPEAKER_00]: But the next one we're going to finish off in quotations a lot of the lore of this. [SPEAKER_00]: Once again, please join our discord or our Facebook page. [SPEAKER_00]: Both if you want neither if you don't, that's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, please like and subscribe to us. [SPEAKER_00]: It does help us out quite a bit. [SPEAKER_00]: But with that, I'm John Barcise, the broadcaster. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Have a great day.
