Speaker 4: NCAA got rid of the national letter of Intent. It's gone. This is how college basketball has operated for forty or fifty years. I literally taught it in my class last week. I taught about the national letter of Intent and how I actually think it's maybe an illegal contract because you're basically one side. The school is not even really giving consideration or giving consideration. But nevertheless, it's now gone. Players don't have to sign it, which means basically when someone signs with the school, they're actually not even signing anything anymore. Charlie Baker, the NCAA president, says he wants to replace it within a couple of years with a contract that would basically require school once they get this revenue sharing done, school will pay you x, you will play at school. That is, in my opinion, going to be a massive positive step for college sports in college basketball, But there's going to be this two year transition period where that doesn't exist and a guy could sign and just not come and there's really nothing any school can do about it. But this national letter of Intent, which for fifty years was kind of the basis of college athletics RYAN is now gone.

Speaker 4: Now, they're not probably gonna sign anything until the House Settlement gets done. The judge for people that don't know, we've talked about that settlement, the judge did not approve the first draft of the settlement. They went back to the negotiating table and they have now approved the second draft of it, so it is now approved. So basically here's where we are. The schools and the players have agreed on a set of principles to govern college football and basketball. It's twenty two million dollars a year to be shared amongst players of all these different sport. Now how that gets shared is not determined yet. I think each school gets to decide it themselves. Players have agreed to join the NCAA in lobbying to Congress to have Congress pass a law that basically makes the settlement federal law. Are you following me the settlement, because right now the worry is if you took that, if someone challenged that settlement, a judge might overturn the settlement. As part of the settlement, though, the players have agreed we'll go with you to Congress and we will say we want this to be the law too. I think that's very important because I think what that means is, in general, this is a huge it's a huge what's the word I'm looking for, it's a huge simplification. But in general, the Republicans in Congress tend to want to do what the colleges want them to do. The Democrats want to do what the athletes players want to do. In general, now there are exceptions to that, but in general, the thought is if the two groups go together, they will get a bipartisan bill that then we'll be signed. I think that's probably true. So I think there's a better chance today Drew to end up with rules that will be set that will organize college sports going forward than there was a week ago.

Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's glad we're finally cleaning up the mess that it's been. That really capped off a few weeks ago when they got quit on his team. We're probably gonna get some structure around this. The letter of intent thing that portal really hit that anyway, they've kind of been silly to begin with. This just officially throws it out the window now and we'll get these contracts that the players actually need moving forward.

Speaker 4: So, you know, for those of you I actually think are worried about the wild Wild West has actually proven to not be as big a worry as we thought it was gonna be. I actually think the sports have been pretty awesome, to be quite frank with you. But I think we are now ryan headed towards having rules that will organize this to where it becomes something. For instance, Congress when they pass the rule, then the NCAA will be able to enforce it, which right now they can't even enforce anything. They'll be able to after that.

But the reason this courts strike all this stuff down is because it violates other laws. So we did a bus ride. We took second class most of the way, but for the final thirty minutes we had to get on a third class bus. Yeah, and there was people on there with chickens, and I was like, this is wild, you know, But I'm glad. I'm glad I did that stuff because it's like I feel like that's how you get to know a place, you know, Yeah.
