The sun is coming up and we're on the other side of mccobby Cove with the ballpark right behind its beautiful ballpark, and I was wondering about this, how long do we expect stadiums to last? Like how long is this stadium going to be here? Because you know there's certain ballparks. Fenway they added on, and you know, modern amenities, Wrigley they added on, modern amenities. Bears probably moving out a soldier field. Remember when the Orioles went to Camden Yards. How big a deal that was, Like, whoa wait a minute here, look at what they did with really the infrastructure there in the warehouse, you know, on right field. And I wonder when you build things, how long do you expect them to last? Because it's usually about modern amenities that you want to put sweets. Maybe you just want to be able to have it in a different location. You want to build kind of a little town like the Patriots did. Go up there and buy you know, Christmas tree decorations and go to an Italian restaurant and go see the Patriots. You know that sounds like Americana, Yes, Mark.

Speaker 5: So the Giants Ballpark behind us is twenty five years old next month. It was pack Bell Park, SBC Park at and T Park. But it was built here and I'm looking back at the original pictures. There was not much around here. There was a lot of ports and things like this, and the stuff came hotels, restaurants. There's tons of condos that are still being built around here. It is a perfectly done ballpark, and I'm not pandering the color, the tone, the angle of which the view is. It's fantastic.

Speaker 2: Yeah, this is one of my favorite ballpark stadiums in America. They just did it right. You know, you want to have the vistas here. They took advantage of the water, the location, downtown, public transportation. Some of the best food I've ever had was actually in that stadium where you're going. Damn, I got sushi here, beers on tap. It's really a beautifully done stadium. Yeah see that's why.

Speaker 6: Yeah, the Giants did it exactly the way it's supposed to be done. Like the way that actually our whole country is designed is you put stadiums and things like this to draw people down into downtown areas of cities and there's public transportation that everybody can get there. You don't put a stadium in air quotes a city and then it's but it's actually forty five minutes outside's to rent a car and then drive out there.

Speaker 5: Well, like if you look at this one, I'm sure they could add more suites and things like this. But this is not a redo like our move this. It might just be an upgrade.

Speaker 2: But how many of these stadiums have we said that about? And how many stadiums are thirty years old? You know, Kansas City's getting a new one, Buffalo's getting a new one, Bears are getting a new one, Tennessee is getting a new one. I don't know, like what would we do if you know, wrigley Field and Fenway, because they're Wriggly and Fenway. We're not gonna do anything about it, and we shouldn't. But they've added and it's and it's downtown. You get to stay in a hotel, walk to the ballpark. And the same thing with Chicago. You get to go to Wrigleyville. And they did it right. And they did this right as well.

Speaker 5: Yeah, Paul, And if you look at wrigley Field, some locals are mad about what's being built around wrigley Field. There's more infrastructure, hotels. It's not the regula of thirty years ago. But the option is moving it. Like Seaton said, forty miles away, you have to upgrade or move out.

Speaker 2: This is what I was hoping the Mets were going to do in New York West Side Highway. Have you know, you'd have beautiful views there, you'd have access, people would have access to get to the ballpark instead of taking a subway out towards Queens to go, you know, to the Mets Stadium and it's just another stadium. I know they're gonna build, you know, a casino, and you know they want to build that's the newest thing. It's like, let's build our own little city here, and you're gonna have people coming out to the ballpark while you're there. You could have dinner, you could go to the casino. But I still like what, you know, Wriggly did, what Fendomay did, what they did here in San Francisco, what they did in Baltimore. And I'm sure I'm leaving out some stadiums, but I love the fact that you can get to stadium and it's more inclusive there. But we'll have the president and CEO of the Giants joining us coming up in an hour from now, Larry Bear. I wonder if he could just if I said, hey, can you turn on more lights? Could you turn on the jumbo tron? Like does he have something on his phone like we might that we can control the lights at our home. He is the boss and he makes a phone call. What are our answers? He knows what the questions are going to be. He knows somebody will ask about bad Bunny. He knows somebody's gonna ask about eighteen games. He'll he knows somebody's gonna ask about the field, the turf. He's gonna have somebody probably ask about the Giants co owner Steve Tish, who's been mentioned in the Epstein Files. That will be an interesting answer there or how they pose that question about him being I don't know if anything happens to the Giants, like the investigation into the Giants, but Steve Tish, the co owner of the Giants mentioned in the Epstein Files. International play, that's going to be a big deal. I was told this years ago that they would eventually get to eighteen games. But your eighteen games, the eighteenth game will be internationally. So the extra game is going to be automatically overseas. Everybody's going to play a game overseas. Now, I don't know if that's going to come to Fruition anytime soon. You're going to have a new TV deal probably after twenty twenty nine. I think they're going to package these games, the International Games for one network, like whoever bids the highest they get all of the International Games. I mean, whatever the NFL is selling, people are buying, and I think that's what's going to happen. So we'll talk to out the Monday morning Quarterback. Speaker 10: I think there are three uncomfortable questions that he could be asked today that I think, uh to me, probably need to be asked. Number one is the Rooney rule, which there were ten head coach hires. It's all done now, not one African American hire. There are only three African American head coaches left. There was only one minority hire that was Robert Salah to the Titans. So that'd be Number one is do you feel like you've taken a step back. It also happens to be in the year they canceled the Accelerator, they generally had this networking event for minority coaches in the spring that this year they canceled it. There was some suspicion that that was done because of the deal they were trying to do with the current administration, the merger, right like that, there were some moving pieces there.

Speaker 7: I mean, at the very least, there were rumblings out there that while they were while the merger was going through because the Justice Department needs to approve it.

If you remember to announce the twenty twenty seven draft in the Oval Office, that was the first photo op that a sitting commissioner has done with a president in twenty two years. So you had the combination of the merger, the diversity event getting canceled, and then the photo op with the president all happening at once.

Speaker 10: Another uncomfortable question is what we all saw at the FCC files on Friday, right, multiple NFL owners named obviously one I think was on a completely different foat level than the rest. How does Steve Tish, how do Steve Tish is involved in the Epstein files affect his ownership of the Giants going forward? And then the third uncomfortable question I think is more of a football question, which would be the state of officiating, because I do think to some degree it's just there's not enough t I don't know how you guys feel watching it, but I cover this stuff for a living, and it's hard for me to tell and I know how this stuff or it's hard for me to tell who's making the decisions, you know, So like the lack of transparency, especially when you're doing business with the gambling company, is the way that you are now?

Speaker 10: I've advocated, I think, and this is this isn't on the officials themselves, but I think they've just continued to pile new technology on top of new technology, on top of new technology, rule change off the top of a rule change on top of rule change.

Speaker 10: So hard for the officials to adjudicate the game out there, and to me, it's like, you've seen what it looks like at field level, it's a blur. Oh god, you have to train your eyes to look for things. And if you're giving guys fifteen new things to look at every year, points of emphasis, rules changes. And then on top of that, they know big brothers watching, right, They've got the camera watching and.

Speaker 10: It just feels like this is something where we have all this technology. Now, maybe it's time to rebuild the thing all together, right and figure out a better way to use the technology, because just taking the old system and piling technology on top of it I don't think is working.

And I do think, I mean, maybe you don't give it to the fans in the moment, but you give it to him at some point. I mean, I I don't know, I guess the the the downside to that would be potentially vilifying an individual, vilifying official that said that's what happens to the coaches and players on a weekly days.

Speaker 2: But we don't remember you if you get it right, we remember you get it wrong. So if it exonerates you, now I know that. You know, go back to the Rams and the Saints in that in that game. Past interference, yes, and a helmet to the head as well. They could have called two things. If you put together an all star officiating crew, nobody wants to rat out somebody else and say you miss the call, and you can ask for help. And I think if you have your team together, you're with the whole year. You got my back, yep, I'm not going to remember you if you get the call right. I'll remember if you get the call wrong. And I think that's what the NFL needs to do.

Speaker 10: And I think that that that's why I've always advocated for this guy judge, Like having that person be a part of the crew in the stadium, all right, that person should be there. And like I just think the having the man behind the curtain in New York who may or may not be worried about what public perception is going to be on Monday or Tuesday, Like having an experienced official in the booth as part of the equation when it comes to the on field crew and they're accountable to each other, and that guy up in the booth, like he has to see the coaches before the game.

Speaker 10: My guess would be, how would you pose the question? I would I would say, how are you going to handle? Maybe I will be the one to ask it. How how are you gonna how are you going to handle owners appearing in the Epstein files? And how are you going to separate one from the other? Because I think there were I want to say it was four. Four of them so far at least have have surfaced in the Epstein files. But the Tish one, the Tish one is way, it's like a different level, or at least it reads that way now he's put out his statement, but it reads like like the other ones are just sort of tangentially involved. I'm almost saysitant to name them because it doesn't there's no proof that they're actually involved in the wrong the real horrible horror fied like the wrongdoing there. But you know, like with with Tish, it's like, okay, like how do you separate that? And then can the NFL go forward with a guy who is in this sort of who now has this on his record, is representing the NFL right, and they always say they hold the owners to a higher standard. Well, this has got to be something where you prove it and you show it. And so it'll be interesting to see to see the way that that one's handled.

Speaker 10: But it's still the NFL, right, And that's when people don't really recognize the NFL doesn't run the Hall of Fames its own entity. Now can the influences, but it is in conjunction with right, and it does reflect on the NFL because most people aren't like you and me, Most people don't there's no distinction them, right, So for most people, Like, if something goes wrong with the Pro Football Hall of Fame, most people are what you're saying is most people will associate it with the NFL itself. I like, I think he could definitely, you know, have an audience with them. And you know, this particular case is fascinating to me because and if everybody who doesn't know they've grouped the seniors together now with the coach and the contributor. I think the main problem now is the seniors by definition are almost last chance chance candidates, right, So you almost have if you're a voter, you almost have to treat those as I'm gonna get one shot to put this guy in, whereas you know with Bill Belichick, with Robert Craft, you might get multiple shots. You've already gotten multiple shots to put Craft in, right, You're probably.

Speaker 10: And So to me, the way I would vote, if I had to vote, is I would look at each of them as yes, no, and if there are four yeses, I take the three most emphatic guesses.

Speaker 10: I think the way other people are interpreting this is, well, this might be my last chance to get this guy in, so I'll get around to that guy later. And I just think so much of that being left to interpretation is sort of the problem here.

Speaker 10: This came up in New England on one of the shows I do, and a producer asked me, Hey, could you like just look into the chances Craft and Belichick have a getting in. So I poked around and I called a handful of voters I knew, you know, really well and trust, and every one of them said, well, Belichick, there's no question it's going to be fifty for fifty.

Speaker 7: And so I started looking at like Craft's candidacy.

Speaker 10: Then it's like, Okay, if there's one hundred and fifty votes, because that's what it would be, everybody gets to vote for three, they're fifty voters, and Belichick gobbles up fifty of them, Well, then it's going to be harder for any of the other four guys to get in. And so I think for a lot of the voters, it was genuinely stunning that Bill didn't get in.

Like that's all So I've I've been hesitant in the past to say, like, yeah, that guy's an idiot for voting this way because I don't have a vote, you know, Like so I don't, like I haven't been in that spot. But this one, to me is so overwhelmingly obvious. It's the greatest coach of all time.

He's been out for what over a decade now, and half the league is running his offense, and like more than half of that group of offenses is run by people who worked for him, you know what I mean. Like, so you go down and you look at his tree, I mean it is it's right there with the and he's part of the wall stree I guess, right, like because he.

Speaker 10: It's crazy to me because I do think it's one sport. I agree players should get in over coaches generally, but it is Having covered this covering of the league for twenty one years, I think it's the sport where the coaches have the biggest influence in winning and losing.

I just I find it strange that we're now parsing the well, what was Belichick's record without Brady? And I go, right, did we do that to any other coach in history where we did this? And the answer is no. And if you said, hey cheated, okay, and if that's your reason that he cheated, fun, just tell me, but don't vote for him next year because he's still cheated.

But it shouldn't be well, I don't view him the same way as this other guy, Like it should be the five most emphatic yes is if you have five votes.

It wasn't quite what it was with Harba, but it was not far off. And that tells you what the league thinks of him, you know. So if easy answers Harbaugh, he's a super Bowl winning coach that puts you on a different plateau.

And I think it's sort of indicative, honestly, Dan, I said to you last year, right that I thought.
