Pod Meets Twirl'd: Survivor 5008
The Survivor 50 finale is now more than just a desert island mirage - it's right around the corner! And so Will and Rider are getting ready, still courageously taking on the challenge of recapping every single episode.
They're confused by the voting strategies, but the games still had our hosts on the edge of their seats, sparking the age-old debate of what’s more valuable on the island: brains or brawn?
There’s still no love for Coach, but Will and Rider will miss bizarre monologues and his “inspirational” quotes. Not many can share the wisdom of Sun Tzu AND a random financial advisor in the same thought.
So come join us on Coconut Island, for an all-new Pod Meets Twirl’d: Seeking Immunity!

00:00:11 Speaker 1: Welcome to Pod Meets Twirld, a podcast that once chronicled two guys who had never seen Dancing with the Stars, but watched a season and walked away experts. From there, we ventured into Traders, the show I'd never seen but Will swore he could win. And now we turn to Survivor season fifty, the Big One, and this time the roles are reversed. Will has seen exactly one season, the first one. Meanwhile, I've watched for years. We are Will Ferdell, who prefers his wilderness with room service, and Rider Strong, who will hike any mountain but hates the beach. Two best friends, one devoted to the comforts of civilization and one who would never leave the woods if he could. Both of us reality competition scholars join us as we dive into alliances, blindsides, fire making, sand related misery, and hike who writing, and twenty five years of television history culminating in a single massive season. This is Pod meets Tworld Seeking immunity. I was telling India I was about to come record, and he's like, what are you recording? I said, Pod meets Twirled and he goes, Ugh was a fan. He's like, you're not even talking about Dancing with the Stars anymore. I was like, oh, okay, okay, okay, it's called Pod meets Twirld Seeking Immunity. And he's like, oh, you know that references boy meets World, Pod meets World, Dancing with the Stars, and Survivor. I'm like, Indy, you parsed that perfectly. 00:01:40 Speaker 2: All four, thank you very much. 00:01:44 Speaker 1: So he ikout him. He finally is recognizing the brilliance of his father. 00:01:48 Speaker 2: Okay, good, It's about time because once he turns eighteen, apparently he's just gonna resent you. 00:01:56 Speaker 1: Oh I think I've only got till next year. He's eleven right now. That's triple school is when you start hating your parents, like really ate it. 00:02:02 Speaker 2: And well, we were busy working, I was getting I was already audited by the time I was eleven. Come on, this kid's way behind all right. 00:02:09 Speaker 1: I'm so curious how you feel because I thought this was the most fun I've had watching the Survivor episode in a long time. Where are you at? 00:02:16 Speaker 2: I don't disagree, I still am not. I don't really care about any of the people. I don't I don't care who stays, who goes, I'm glad that coach went, but that was the only because I found him annoying. 00:02:28 Speaker 1: See now I'm kind of sad he's gone because he was so annoying. He had crossed over the threshold from so annoying to so entertaining. Yeah, that I was like, well, I hope he sticks right. 00:02:38 Speaker 2: I'm trying to get I'm trying to learn the people more than I am. I'm starting to have some favorites. Definitely. I thought the challenge was super super cool like that, like having to work together and the paddles and all that stuff. I thought that was really great. Yeah. 00:02:54 Speaker 1: I think that's why this episode was so good for me because I was on the edge of my seat during the challenge, which usually I'm like, Okay, the challenge is happening, and I'm like cool, and it kind of plays out the way you expect, honestly, Like most of the time you're like I kind of know who's gonna win, or he's who the top like three or four are gonna be, or which team which tribe is gonna win. In this case, I was like, I have no idea, and it was totally the wire. It was. 00:03:15 Speaker 2: It was it was very entertaining, and I feel the same way edge of my seat, and it was no, I fully enjoyed all that kind of stuff. I still I'm just the the then the rest of the show, I'm still just trying to wrap my head around. And I just again, I know I came in on the wrong season. I say that every every week. So I wish it was just a whole bunch of people that didn't have a backstory, and then it's I could kind of get into it a little more. But I'm definitely enjoying it more than I was at the beginning. 00:03:40 Speaker 1: Certainly, this finally was a twist that I was like, this complicates the game and the best way, right, you know, like the other twists, I've been like, what but this one. When I read that they were going to be splitting the team, so I was like, oh my god, why did we merge so early? But then when I saw what they did and saw the reaction to it, and like the fact that they would have to do this double elimination based on two people who are chosen each other, I was like, that is awesome. 00:04:07 Speaker 2: Now, question, do you think the teams would have been radically different had they known? Oh, we're going home before they each other. 00:04:17 Speaker 1: That's what was so brilliant about it is because usually when you were going too these things and you know you have to pick somebody, which has happened before where you have to pick a partner or pick a team, what you do is you diversify the way that they did based on who they think can do a challenge. So it's like a big guy will pick somebody who maybe is a little less physical. 00:04:36 Speaker 2: And Christian together. 00:04:39 Speaker 1: Matchup, right, But you usually don't make that decision based on their social game. And so the fact that flipped it on them. So once they showed up for the challenge, they had made this decision based on what they thought was, you know, how they could survive the challenge and distribute the risk of the challenge. Suddenly they had made their choice that distributed the risk of social game. And that is like a whole that's never happened before. 00:05:02 Speaker 2: And Riz God Riz God pointed that out. And he, by the way, has gone from being one of my least favorite to one of my absolute favorites. 00:05:08 Speaker 1: In the game. Yes, me too, man, He's over so much because he's a really good player, is and he's kind of sees you know, the entire game around him and figured it all out, and so yeah, I went right away from He's like become one of my favorites. 00:05:21 Speaker 2: Definitely. 00:05:21 Speaker 1: I thought this, Yeah, I thought this episode was so exciting. The twists and turns were perfect. 00:05:26 Speaker 2: Yep. 00:05:26 Speaker 1: It was like a sign of like all the all the plans for season fifty that have liked the ideas for it. I'm like, are you doing it right? Because some of these choices are really. 00:05:37 Speaker 2: Questionable, But then the multi layers of what then happened at tribal because it's not just what Devn's pulled, but then it's also my god, what you're doing is essentially whoever gets up and runs and talks to somebody else. You're figuring out the alliances. You can see the alliances in real time as the tribal is going on, and it's like, oh man, you're basically you're you're you're throwing the lights on for everybody, Like, oh, not only am I going to throw a wrench into the entire mix, but I want to see who talks to each other. 00:06:05 Speaker 1: It was great why and I still have questions about that tribal, Like I still am very creos. I'm not quite clear on what exactly happened. We'll get into it. I'm still I still am I mean, and maybe it's just me being an idiot, but I wasn't quite following everything, So we'll get into it. Okay. So we're back at camp after the last tribal when Dee was voted out. Jonathan's all happy. Tiffany is not. She knows that four people wrote her name down, but she has no idea who, and just like last episode, she's playing a cool in the group and then in her confessional she's like, I want to burn this mother dad, which I was like, She's just been in this position too many times. It sucks. I think she definitely proved herself for this episode, which I'm so happy because I do like her a lot. We haven't actually heard that much from her. I think when we were talking earlier this season about how people have been pointing out how like people have gotten screwed in terms of their screen time, I think she is the number one screwed person, Like she has had the least amount of confessional time. 00:07:08 Speaker 2: And then and then everyone's starting to vote for her, so it's like, not only are they not going to show her confessional, but now for some reason everyone wants her out. It's kind of like why why Yeah. 00:07:17 Speaker 1: No, And honestly, I don't know that much about her, Like I can't remember if I've seen a previous season, you know, so she's and it's I think it's because of the way it's been edited. It's just she's been reduced. But anyway, I thought she did great this episode, and this is another example of her just playing it cool when inside she is dying. 00:07:34 Speaker 2: But it also shows you how and you know, it's obviously the beautiful way that they're editing it, but how it goes from at the beginning of the episode you think you're on the bottom, and then whatever happens the entire episode, and then you're the king of the hill by the end. So yeah, it's totally. 00:07:49 Speaker 1: See this is why, like I think, well, I haven't. I'm sure somebody's developed this in a really good way. But I've had this thought before that actually, to teach screen right, watching reality TV is like the best thing you could do, because yeah, because think you know, like some of the hardest things to do is to map out character arcs right to understand that if somebody's on the on the bottom, like you say, they should end up on the top, and vice versa, and that that is that arc that you have to sort of map. That for your characters is something that's hard for writers to get their heads around, you know, just because you want change, you want conflict, and you want to make it hard for your characters, whether they win or lose, you want to make it hard for them. And so like a reality show is the perfect way to see that play out because you know, like every episode is the same Survivor, right, the same thing happens, right, but you're you're invested because every episode you're watching a different person change their fortunes one you know, it goes up or down, up or down. So I feel like it's an easy way to illustrate that point. 00:08:48 Speaker 2: But there's also especially with something like like reality or a documentary, which again I want to talk about like our documentary which was just announced, We're going to Trybecca, thank you very much for a doc needs World. There's a thousand documentaries in that documentary. If you edit it any differently, it becomes an entirely different documentary. So every episode of Survivor, like Dance with the stars is one thing. It's it's it's kind of it's formulaic in the best way. But you know they're gonna come out and they're gonna dance, and you know they're confessionals in the middle. But with something like Survivor where they're just shooting, there's a thousand episodes in the episode. You could take all the footage from that last episode, re edit it entirely and it's all about Devon's and it's a completely different episode. 00:09:28 Speaker 1: It's from his point of view, right, That's like, I mean, it's like you have to pick your protagonist. You have to make these decisions that are really Yeah, I mean that's why editing is the essential. You know, that is where reality shows are written, right. You know, it's like you have the you know, the plan where you write with the challenges and you write with the casting, right, and then you write when you're doing the confessionals with the way you interview them. Those are That's why you have story producers on set sort of keeping track of like who are we you know, they must have like boards with like who's up this week or who's what are they saying? Or who are they aligning with? Which is just must be insane. And then and of course, yeah, exactly what you're saying, you do the final writing in the edit, and man, you could I mean you could make people look good look. 00:10:06 Speaker 2: Bad exactly, and again you could go I would love to see somebody take every like somebody who works for Survivor go back and take an entire season where people know it so well and re edit the entire thing and make it a completely different season of the show, because you know they could. That's a great idea, man, it'd be really really cool idea interesting to see. I went to a play once. It was like an experimental theater play. It was a Brazilian I think it was Brazilian production. It was in English, but it had come from another country originally. And the whole thing was you saw the same play twice. It is two hours long, so it was a long night. But the idea is those two audiences. There's an audience in one room and then there's an audience in another room. The audience in one room gets to see a live stage play going on. 00:10:51 Speaker 1: The audience in the other room only sees what the cameras that are running around stage is catching. So you watch the same play twice, once as as if if it's a reality show on a screen, and once as if it's a play. And you see the difference of just just how the cameras capture or don't care. So it's basically what you're saying, but in a live theater context. And it didn't have editing, but still just the framing of like limiting what you could see to what the camera could change, change the whole story, of course. And what was so cool is that, of course I saw it with the theater version first and then the screen version, but if you were going the other way, you you have a different experience, right, It was like you you're expanding the frame or limiting. Super fascinating idea. 00:11:33 Speaker 2: Yeah, we should re edit all the Boy Meets Worlds to where Corey is the villain. 00:11:37 Speaker 1: That wouldn't be that hard. 00:11:39 Speaker 2: For seven years. 00:11:42 Speaker 1: A great No, I think it's a great idea. Man if if somebody was like willing to consciously plan that, like to shoot a reality show, do a whole season, and then release a second version of that same season with. 00:11:53 Speaker 2: All these existing states, you can't reshoot anything, can't change a word, can't change a word. It's just re edited. It's a great idea. 00:12:02 Speaker 1: That's a great idea, right, Let's not tell anybody about that idea, so we could save it and pitch Hollywood. Okay, so okay, so whatever, Holly, don't tell anybody, all right, Jonathan Tell's coach to lay low. 00:12:15 Speaker 2: That seemed to be one of the themes of the episode. It was, Hey, coach, maybe just go hammock. 00:12:20 Speaker 1: Maybe just go sit in the hammick and shut the fuck up. I love about Coach then mocks how he should talk, and he's like, oh, this guy is blue. Yeah, that's called being a normal human being. Like he like he literally has to present with his ego what it would be like to talk as if he didn't have an ego. Yeah, I need he would be. Then there was some saving. 00:12:40 Speaker 2: Grace at a couple times through the episode where at least he was cognizant of kind of the person that he is, where it was more like, hey, more or less this this is me better or worse. I'm this guy. 00:12:52 Speaker 1: No, that's what he says at the end, And I I mean, I hope that I'm never that person, do you know what I mean? Like, I'll tell you, Like that's a sad sort of state where you're like, well, love me or hate me with me? I know, I think it'd be better to be loved. 00:13:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean again, it's just it because you know what the problem is that it just it becomes such a caricature of a person where it's like everything this guy says is a quote from somebody else. Like he's like, if you'll permit me a Nietzsche quote. My like, oh my god, really do have a joy. 00:13:23 Speaker 1: He can't help himself. I can't help himself. You just feel it. It's so Stephanie got her Alliance of seven. 00:13:44 Speaker 2: Uh yeah really yeah, really there's she comes off as a total badass to me, really just love. 00:13:52 Speaker 1: Something about her kind of rubs me the wrong way. It's partly who she's picking. I'm like, really, this is your alliance. And and there's this whole coversation that everybody's having about the middle, which is so interesting. They all kind of know this, which is Aubrey, Devin's Christian and Emily, And it's so funny because I this is where I feel like the old and new styles are colliding, because these four specifically have done incredible almost every other season, and they've done incredible because it's it's usually that they partner with somebody, you know, somebody who's doing really well physically early on or who's doing really well so like a leader, like an alpha, they partner with them and sort of whisper in their ear and tell them which way to go. And this season is kind of going back to the old school Survivor where the alphas are just running the show right, which is the way it used to be. And it's so interesting to see that these four specifically, who are you know, the nerds really, I mean, they're the ones who are physically not you know, they're like the nerdy sort of outtake I know, but they're stuck in the middle in this case, which is super interesting. They do come out on top of the end of this episode, but I was watching this going wow, this is that collision of the old and news. But it seems we're talking where you want to be. 00:15:06 Speaker 2: I mean, we've talked about this where it's kind of like, don't make waves, be kind of. 00:15:10 Speaker 1: Just in the long term that is where you want to be. But you can see how close they get to getting voted out in this episode. 00:15:16 Speaker 2: I also don't understand who you vote for and why I'm still I still am not And I know they have a strategy and they know this game a hell of a lot better than I do, But I don't understand why you don't always just vote out the strongest person every time, especially now that you're in individuals where it's like everybody's great. Mic three is going to win this game. She's the best ever. Okay, so why doesn't everybody just get together and go three? 00:15:33 Speaker 1: You got to go because she doesn't stand a chance at the end of she doesn't stand a chance at individual immunities. But if no one votes for, then who cares? 00:15:39 Speaker 2: She doesn't need them. 00:15:40 Speaker 1: Well, what's so weird about this season is that they've been really still acting as if it's a tribe tribe based challenge game. It's you know, they're still working in pairs, are in teams. They have not really reached that individual because if you if they were at the individual level, like really, you'd get rid of Jonathan right away, you get rid of Ozzy as soon as you can, like anybody who's physically doing the challenge as well, just get rid of them. But in this version, they're holding on to those alliances with those big guys or those physical, you know, beasts, because they're still working with them. 00:16:14 Speaker 2: So yeah, I was gonna say, there's only been one individual one that's the standing and the thing that's the only thing that's been individual and that was Remember that was after they had already done a team one, right, Yeah, so that was so they they're still doing team games. 00:16:27 Speaker 1: So they're in a weird position where they're because normally like yeah, I yeah, and I'm glad, Like that's what I liked about the twist this time is that it forced them to because if they didn't have to vote for two people the way they did this time, like Aubrey would have been gone, right because she's on the bottom socially and she's not a benefit physically, so she would have been out. So I'm glad that they complicated it. And suddenly, you know, the way they picked their partner, which was based on surviving a challenge, became a social game factor, which I love. 00:16:57 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been it's very It's the layers are are really interesting because again then there's the other one where I'm learning where it's like now that everybody who's getting kicked off is on the jury, so you can't really overtly screw people over because then they're never going to vote for you at the end. 00:17:11 Speaker 1: So it's you've got that whole other level. You see that with like with Coach because they have to deal with him. So like even though like Rizzo is kind of like coaches, you know, he had to play. He had to go to Coach and talk to him and be like I don't know what do you think or you know, like every or actually no, he went to Joe. He didn't go to Coach. But still, like they have to They can't just be Dix to Meach out there, right, They've got to be somewhat hey, I'm doing it. Which to that point, this next scene was I Love, which is Ozzy telling Tiff that he voted for yeah yep, which was like, to me, really honorable thing. And he's like, I had to do it to a piece coach. I have to work with Coach right now. I want to chop his head off eventually. And you know, but and I think that's the greatest move. And you see her just go like thank you, like I'm gonna work with Ozzy now, Like you know, there's a loyalty to that too, because it's I'm actually Ozzy with the type of person that he is. 00:18:04 Speaker 2: When he's like, I will never put your name down again, he won't. He won't. So it's like you get you know, you've got one person there where it's like, Okay, that's one person I don't have to worry about cause I know that guy's going to keep his word and he's never gonna go find. 00:18:15 Speaker 1: And isn't that funny that that's where I go Like whenever Coach is like onder an integrity, it's like yes, but like Ozzie's actually living that, yeah, And sometimes that means telling somebody you screwed up, which I think Coach is pretty incapable of do it, which is like exactly what Ozzie does in this situation is like I did this, and of course Joe does it. 00:18:33 Speaker 2: Later on this getting a little tired of hearing you talked a bad about the Dragon Slayer, a. 00:18:40 Speaker 1: Boat shows up. It tells them they got to split into pairs. 00:18:44 Speaker 2: I was so excited by the way I thought it was going to be the thing you told me about where you're like the auction, because they're like, is an ation, isn't that? 00:18:50 Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, this is the thing Rider was talking about. They'll get to it. It's going to happen for sure. The auction is the best. 00:18:56 Speaker 2: I can't wait, all right. 00:18:58 Speaker 1: So then a couple of people, well are immediately like I want to be the odd person out, which I think is a smart move because like, clearly the odd person out is going to not be a part of the challenge, which seems likely that you would be safe, right, But a couple episodes ago, no one wanted to be the odd person out. That was to go on a journey by themselves without yah. The odd person out in this case was you're right, so that was a boat coming to take somebody. 00:19:24 Speaker 2: Away to Exile Island or no, that was just a separate. 00:19:28 Speaker 1: Mission, but that they wouldn't know what was on the other side of it, whereas in this case they were going to the challenge. Everybody else had to pair off to go to a challenge, and the person who was the one person was going to be not part of the challenge. That's all they knew. They didn't know anything about Exile Island. Yet they didn't know, and I think they they just intuited that that means that if you're not competing for immunity. You're probably immune, yeah, yeah, yeah, So multiple people wanted to do it. They ended up pulling from the shot in the dark and Surri got picked, so she's out. And then you know, there was this question, how do you pick your Honestly, if I was there, I would have voted to or I would have argued that they all should do a random because like there's just no way of knowing what picking your pair is gonna mean. 00:20:11 Speaker 2: But again, Jonathan and Christian, it's kind of like, Okay, we got Brandon Braun, what else could That's what they. 00:20:15 Speaker 1: Decided to do. So they decided to mingle and you know, pick their teams. I love Devon's and Aubrey is probably the least strategic one because they're not as good for a challenge. But then they did well. 00:20:27 Speaker 2: I say they did well, but you, right or strong are part of that team. You're there with all those people. You don't know what the challenge is. Who's your partner? Ozzy's your first one? Interesting? 00:20:38 Speaker 1: I think so, because I'm not good enough at like physical challenges. But well, I don't know in this scenario, God, not knowing, I mean it's hard, especially now knowing what I, you know, but who like I don't know. It really depends on who. I would like to think that I would be friendly with everybody, right, I mean, i'd like to think that i'd be so assuming I'm in everybody's good graces. I think i'd probably be in a position similar to like, I don't know who am I most like in terms of gameplay at this point. I don't know, Man, I think i'd probably be mostly like a Christian. 00:21:13 Speaker 2: I was gonna say, I think you're most like probably most like a Christian, which is like. 00:21:17 Speaker 1: Not physically a complete liability, but also probably not gonna win individual challenges by myself, but but well liked and in a sort of like alliance position with a bunch of different people. So yeah, So I don't know, I don't know who i'd pick, but who to Christian end up with? 00:21:33 Speaker 2: Jonathan? 00:21:33 Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'd probably go for super physical. 00:21:36 Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. If you're in a giant tea, if you're in a challenge with where you need a partner, I don't know what the survivor challenge is going to be, but unless it's be as small a guy as you possibly can, I'm gonna pick Jonathan basically every time. But you know what I mean, It's like, why would you not want to take the giant guy with the huge musclers who's won most of the stuff. 00:21:55 Speaker 1: And I think my specialty would be puzzles, so like Christian, I would probably be pick by somebody who is not as good as puzzles like Jonathan. So yeah, yeah, but I love the the Devon's in Aubrey. She refers to them as the hot Mess Express, which I just want that express, all right. Ozzie then throws out Devon's name to Jonathan and Joe, talking about getting rid of him, which is interesting at this this is where like everybody's starting to target that middle ground, which I was like, Ah, Coach tries to talk to Tiff, claims that he didn't push for her name, which we know is complete crap. Yeah, he literally went around telling everybody they had to vote for her. 00:22:40 Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I have a quick question. You're talking about the middle. So if there's a middle, there's a bottom, who's at the bottom. 00:22:47 Speaker 1: Nobody? 00:22:47 Speaker 2: Actually, I think that's what's interesting, Like there's no there is no there's no Bore's. 00:22:52 Speaker 1: Two alliances on either side basically it's not really a top bottom in the middle. It's like a left, right and middle situation. I think that there's strong alliance on either side and everyone's aware of that, and these four in the middle could kind of go either way. They just socially aren't like paired off. Yeah, which really the middle should be working as a team. 00:23:13 Speaker 2: The four of them joined, make a team and then join one of the other teams. 00:23:16 Speaker 1: Yes, if they grabbed I don't know two or three people on their own, but they obviously just haven't solidified their relationships with the same degree as these other guys. 00:23:25 Speaker 2: Yeah, I would join up with the four people in the middle. I would pick one of the sides and then pick off the entire other team and then figure it out when that dost settles. 00:23:32 Speaker 1: So Coach basically tries to have the moment that Ozzie had with Tiff, and it just doesn't go as well because he can't say I made a mistake, I will vote for you, I will never No, he just says I didn't do the thing you think I did, even though it's exactly what he did. And when she was like, well then who pushed my name, he can't answer. 00:23:52 Speaker 2: And this is where the editing was beautiful because I'm hoping he actually said something in real life, but they just held on him not saying anything. 00:23:59 Speaker 1: I know, I had the exact same question, dude. I was like, is this just editing because it makes him look really flailing? Yep, like I would have assumed he would at least tried to answer. 00:24:10 Speaker 2: If you're walking over there to have this conversation, you must have at least partially crafted the lie in your head already. 00:24:17 Speaker 1: I know. I'm so curious what Coach is saying today now that the episode's been released. 00:24:22 Speaker 2: I thought the same thing where I was like, I wonder if they just edited it to where he just literally doesn't say anything, and then she's like, well, it's makes him look horrible, Yes it does. Yeah, I'm so curious. 00:24:33 Speaker 1: So into the challenge, we go double duo. Only one vote could take down or getting voted out would take down a pair, which is just making this choice a partner so important socially in a way that nobody expected. 00:24:50 Speaker 2: But it got a little confusing because they could still vote individually for other people. Yes, but whoever got the most votes the team goes away. So I was like, okay, that was a little like, all right, I had to follow that a little bit well, and they don't really play that out. 00:25:07 Speaker 1: The only way that that really plays out is when Coach plays a shot in the dark, right, Because when I when she did that, I was like, Christy, why aren't you playing yours? Because then they would have had two chances of being safe? 00:25:18 Speaker 2: Oh and are you not? 00:25:19 Speaker 1: Were they not allowed to both do? I think she was hedging her bets and hoping to save her shot in the dark for a later time. So they were basically like, one of us should play her shot in the dark, and she was going to save hers for But in retrospect, she should have just freaking played me, yeah, because then they would have had two out of six chances, yeah, or two out of twelve chances as opposed to one out of six. So yeah, she walked away. She lost. Anyway, we're Joe getting ahead of ourselves. But yeah, I think that really what the fact that they had individual votes means that they could have, like they all decided to sort of stick with their partner, but they could have actually like Christy could have gone behind Coach's back. 00:25:58 Speaker 2: Well yeah, no, no, it's no benefit. No, there would have been no, but there were certain people like was it who said, uh, I will not write coaches name down out of Prince Joe. It was Joe's Joseph, like, I'm not gonna write coach his name down. 00:26:12 Speaker 1: It's like, okay, So his partner could have said I'm gonna write you or I'm gonna write coach his name and you don't, so you say a face. 00:26:19 Speaker 2: He just wrote chrissy, so he if Yeah, he just wrote chrissy knowing that coach was going to get voted off anyway. 00:26:26 Speaker 1: But any one of principle was This is the exactly the question that I had about the end. I couldn't keep track of who voted for. Okay, See that's super clever. Yeah, so then he's like honored integrity, holding true but clearly screwing him. Yeah. 00:26:41 Speaker 2: I said I wouldn't write your name down, and I didn't, but never did because he wrote his partner's name down and they were repair. So you wrote his name down without having to write. You had your cake and aid it too. 00:26:51 Speaker 1: I could see coach bringing that up in the jury. 00:26:53 Speaker 2: Yes, you had your cake and ad it too. It's exactly what That's interesting. 00:26:58 Speaker 1: Okay, that explains my confusion because I was like, who voted for coach? Because they you know. I was like, okay, got it all right? So the challenge, I think this is one of my favorite challenges I've ever seen. 00:27:08 Speaker 2: I agree, this was cool. 00:27:09 Speaker 1: Every one of these. I was like, this is cool and it felt well balanced, Like every every partnership. I was like, actually, it didn't really come down to a so much bron and so much puzzle. It was like braun and brain. It was a balance. I was like, oh, and it really was about team communication all the way, which was so cool. Like that seems like the point, especially considering these guys had chosen their partners, you know, and sometimes been stuck with a partner. It was. It was just a great dynamic. 00:27:37 Speaker 2: There was actually no braun in this. It was really physicality, but you didn't need to be. Being big was of no benefit in this one. 00:27:44 Speaker 1: You're right, no strength, no strength or even really endurance. No, you needed some some agility, some hand eye coordination, right, which Coach apparently did not have. 00:27:53 Speaker 2: No. And then basketball like, man, that's the other thing. You need communication And yes, this is what's what's the old saying. It's slow ast smooth smooth as fast. 00:28:05 Speaker 1: Slow as smooth smooth is fast. 00:28:09 Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's like, you know, the slower and the smoother you went, the faster you actually finished the challenge, which which worked unless you And that's the other thing. By the way, The other thing I learned from this episode is if there's a pick up basketball game, coach is not the guy you picked to be on it. 00:28:23 Speaker 1: His name is Coach. Couldn't make a basket, He couldn't have made the mask. He admitted, he was like, basketball is not my sport. Like, okay, so what is what do you coachchi? Like, what do you He's your yoga coach, That's what he's the coach he is. Oh he's a soccer coach. Okay, okay, right, well there you go. He's definitely not a haiku coach because he can't even do that. 00:28:48 Speaker 2: He is not. 00:28:50 Speaker 1: All right, tosses. You got to toss the ball through a thing basketball style, catch it on the other. 00:28:55 Speaker 2: Side after dodging the DoD yep, cool, Uh. 00:29:00 Speaker 1: Remade it out of the gate faster than everybody, which was so cool. Coach took forever. Then this cool paddle pass thing, which was like, yeah, Joe and Tiff made it through that. 00:29:10 Speaker 2: They all made it unless they edited this in a certain way. They I thought this was going to take a lot longer than it did. And there were some guys who were like they were passing it to each other. 00:29:19 Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it was. 00:29:20 Speaker 2: There was some good hand eye coordination in this one. I was impressed at how fast they got through that. 00:29:24 Speaker 1: I was it was cool to watch. Ye, yeah, it may. 00:29:26 Speaker 2: At that part, I was like, we have to do one of your game days where we do this kind of challenge. 00:29:32 Speaker 1: I agree, man, I'm sure there are like party companies that set up these kinds of challenges and. 00:29:37 Speaker 2: A part we should would be so into it done. 00:29:40 Speaker 1: I would like it. And we should make it like an exercise goal, right, like to get in shape to be able to do some crazy ass challenges. 00:29:46 Speaker 2: We'll do a Survivor like Saturday. It'll be fun, dude, I'm so in Okay good yeah, So, and we should just do this exactly this just this is cool. 00:29:55 Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, all right. Then they had to build a bridge, you know, And this is where it's it's clearly all about communication. Like all of these are like can these can these partnerships work? So at the end of this one, teams are eliminated. So what we ended up with was Joe and Tiff. 00:30:11 Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I had one question. Did they explain did you have to do the boards one at a time? Like could you just bring the entire thing up there, like carry all eight of them up there and then. 00:30:22 Speaker 1: Just try to the board the same thought, because that it made no sense to me why it seemed like they could only have one at a time, the leader, the person calling could only have one at a time, because yeah, I agree, dude, Like even at the end it was like, there's three left, just bring all three over here and we'll PLoP them down. So yeah, I had the same thought. It must have been you had to do one at a time. Yeah, yeah, all right. So it was Joe, Tiff, Stephanie of Aubrey and Devins, and yeah, I was just looking at these teams. I was like, yeah, this is so well rounded, this is so interesting. Then they had to do this thing paddle raising out of a cage with this little ball and then the maze, and I thought this was just truly exciting. 00:31:17 Speaker 2: The cage, especially when I first saw it, I didn't realize they put the like the chicken wire essentially in there. I thought you just had to hold the battle and go up, but no, you've got to have one person balance while the other person then goes up like step by step ladder style all the way up. Was great and how. 00:31:33 Speaker 1: Cool was it that it was sort of like a mini version of what they had already done with a big paddles and a big balls, So it was like they were kind of teaching themselves how to do it. And I think watching Joe and Tiff, who won this like wonderfully, they fell behind at this point in the cage, so they were the last people to get to the maze. But exactly to your point about slow and smooth, smooth as fast. By the time they got to the maze, I feel like they were just vibing with each other so well that they like they just were communicating, whereas the other teams did better or quicker. Then they got to the maze, and the maze was just you had to just feel it. 00:32:10 Speaker 2: They were still in that adrenaline rush of the last one, and it was very jerky and it was yeah, and they just weren't. 00:32:15 Speaker 1: Like feeling each other's bodies to the same degree, whereas like TIF and Joe just came through and you saw by the end of this challenge they were like bonded, Like even the way they hug at the end of the challenge. I'm like, oh, these two like look like a couple now, like they were like physically like like bonded. And that's why when they go to the dinner the reward thing, he's like, I'm with you to the end. I'm like, yeah, dude, because you guys came through this shit together, like they really just it worked. 00:32:41 Speaker 2: I didn't realize how hard that was until I saw the ball go off the back and I'm like, oh, it's off the back too, like you have to. It doesn't bounce back. There's no little wall. If you go far too far, you're done. 00:32:54 Speaker 1: That's it. 00:32:54 Speaker 2: You got to start over again. 00:32:55 Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, yeah, and I don't care how good your verbal skills are. That's a body thing to be able to communicate that when you're holding half of that thing and you just have to feel each other's fine and be like, oh my god, so great. It's like dancing partner more than anything. 00:33:10 Speaker 2: Do you remember the game with the two metal bars that you then have the metal ball in between, and you got to like, I can't do that. Yes, it was like that on a horrible scale. 00:33:22 Speaker 1: It was right. 00:33:22 Speaker 2: That reminded me of right where each of you are holding one side. Yes, oh my god, yeah exactly. Now you have to play with two people. Yeah, tough, tough game. 00:33:29 Speaker 1: So Joan and Tiff took it, which is awesome to watch. Meanwhile, on Exile Island Excon Island Island, Coconut Island, Coconut Island. Oh man, this was brutal. Arrives finds two thousand coconuts. So my first thought was porcery and then also poor crew that had to set up, Like how did you distribute? 00:33:55 Speaker 2: That's like you know, you know that that was like probably four pas given this to k Yeah. If there's lucky, there's four. If not, it's just you and somebody else right here. 00:34:04 Speaker 1: They don't get any of the glory, no chance at a million dollars. They're getting paid minimum, which hoping for a real story producer job down there, exactly, And. 00:34:12 Speaker 2: You're not getting two thousand coconuts on one boat. You're going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. 00:34:19 Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder, I'm so curious how what the hiring practices on Survivor are. Do you think they're hiring locals or do you think it's all imported crew. 00:34:27 Speaker 2: I would hope it's at the very least a good balance of the two. 00:34:30 Speaker 1: I do too, But I'm you know, so maybe people don't realize is that, you know, when you usually when you go to another country or when you go to another state, Uh, there's you have to hire locals as part of entertainment. Like if you're doing a film and a company in Canada, a certain percentage of the crew is to be Canadian. And every every country and every state sort of sets their own precedence for the So I'm so curious what Fiji sets is their rules first, and you know, because they probably give tax breaks or they give incentives to get Survivor to stay there. 00:35:02 Speaker 2: They've been using that same set now for so long. They're probably some of the locals have probably been done ten seasons of this already. Yeah, it's like they have a local crew that's been there for a while. Yeah, we got to find those people. I want to interview some crew people. 00:35:14 Speaker 1: I know. And because you see the boat, the people that will drive the boats look like locals, right, and they never talk, so oh, here we go. Okay from Google, Survivor typically employees approximately four hundred local Fijians for each season of production. That's good, incredible, that's awesome. Okay, wow, four hundred that's huge. That's amazing. 00:35:33 Speaker 2: Think about when we went to Gets with the Stars, the number of people that crew was on an easy stage that wasn't even a huge stage. Now put it on a giant island in another country. You need there's probably thousands of people that make that shit. 00:35:45 Speaker 1: Right because they have to like be on they have to be like coordinating different sides of the island. Yeah, that's crazy, all right. So hopefully there were like a good one hundred people setting these coconuts at least, and they did it in twenty minutes. 00:35:55 Speaker 2: You'd hope, but I doubt it. 00:35:57 Speaker 1: I have a feeling they probably gave this to like ten people to have to set up. 00:36:00 Speaker 2: By the way, this episode more than any other, I can see why she's so good at this game and why people love her. Sari just you just just love her, and you're like, I want I don't know, I just want you to win. I don't know anything else. 00:36:15 Speaker 1: I just want you to win, and you see how like, not only does the audience love the show loves her because she is such a commercial for like how great Survivor is because you see her like, you know, I guess the thing about Siria is that she is she is unfiltered, like she is very raw and yet still a good player socially, you know, which is a really hard because it's like it seems like people either hold their cards so close to their chests that you start judging them because they're lying to people, are manipulated, or they're so emotionally open that you just their suckers like an AUSI, or you know, they're just like here's who I am. I can't lie, And she somehow manages to be both in the same person. 00:36:56 Speaker 2: You know. 00:36:57 Speaker 1: You see her like breakdown in this moment, crying just full on and not being ashamed or embarrassed by it, but just powering through, and you're like, oh oh when they were showing the older clips of her on the show, because of course I'm not familiar with any of this, And she keeps falling off the balance beam and then she crosses and like you could tell all of the other contestants were there holding the beam for her, helping her, and then cheering her on how do you vote against somebody like that? 00:37:22 Speaker 2: I know? So, I mean you can see why she's such a powerhouse. And at this episode alone, I was like, oh god, now, and now I hope she wins. 00:37:28 Speaker 1: You want to win? 00:37:29 Speaker 2: I do. 00:37:29 Speaker 1: I just want her to win. And not only that, like not only the empathy and the emotional connection that you're talking about, but when she gets back to camp, she sets the she just immediately changes everybody's strategy and they're like, that's actually a really good call. 00:37:41 Speaker 2: And they're like, thank god she's back. Thank god she's back. 00:37:44 Speaker 1: It's like, oh my god. Exactly, she's so good. 00:37:46 Speaker 2: She's got to hold the power but also holds your heart and you're like, oh my god. It's like it'd be like if the old woman at the end of Titanic turned around and she actually had crashed the vote herself. You know, it was like that was like, really it was her the whole time. Come on, Yeah, that was awesome. 00:38:01 Speaker 1: Yeah. So she finally, after I don't know how long, but it looks hot and miserable, she finds the phoenix on the coconut like so when she first started, I was like, man, I would just walk the whole beach without turning individually each one, you know what I mean? 00:38:16 Speaker 2: Like, I would just do a quick walkthrough. How long do you think the hourglass was? You think it was an actual hourglass? You think she had an hour to find it? 00:38:24 Speaker 1: That's a good Again, we don't know. There's no sucks. I want some time. 00:38:29 Speaker 2: I want a tie rack on there. It's like, did she have five or ten minutes to do it or she have four? 00:38:34 Speaker 1: I don't know to do it. I mean I think she made what I would was actually I guess a rational assumption, which is that she had to keep flipping over each coconut. That's what she assumed she had to do. But when they show the shot of the coconut with the phoenix on it, it's actually just right there, exposed on the side. So I was like, just do a walk around, just walk around real quick, like or a jog through all of them and see if you can spot it without having to go one by one. 00:38:59 Speaker 2: I was also worried when she started to do the football hike where she's just hiking kind of between her legs behind her. It's like well, if you don't find them in that direction and you've got to go back to where you're hiking, you're not going to know the ones you looked at compared to the ones you didn't. 00:39:10 Speaker 1: So that one that was I was like, oh, this is this is one of these. You don't see these kinds of things on Survivor often. This is the kind of thing that really sucks. On Amazing Race, they do a lot of these, not so much anymore, but they have in the past done a lot of these kinds of things where it's like a scattered bunch of tiles in a Roman cathedral and you have to flip over and and you see some people just get stuck there for like six hours because they just missed the one thing, and it really is not fun to watch and not fun, and it kind of sucks because you're like, those people are really good. They just got unlucky. They picked the wrong corner where they just skipped over there and it's the needle in the haystack. Is you know, I guess maybe the phrase that you would call this kind of challenge. I don't like them. I think they suck. 00:39:56 Speaker 2: You know, the easiest way to find a needle in a haystack, though, wind No, you just burn down the haystack. Oh yeah, if you if you have access to a match, that's what's what you do. And then what's left is the needle and a bunch of ash and a bunch of ash. Right, what if you're in a what if you're in a room with the windows, You just might suffocate yourself in that process, But that's the way to do it. If you don't have a magnet, you burn down the haystack. 00:40:22 Speaker 1: All right. Back of camp, Emily uh wants to get out coaching. Chrissy Rizzo pitches that they go for these middle floaters who are more dangerous, which ends up kind of being everybody's strategy until until sirri gets back. Joe and Tiff have their meal. They're like bonded for life now, which is great to see. Spaghetti Man, spaghetti and wine. 00:40:45 Speaker 2: You think there's ever a challenge where they win something and they're like, you know, I'm I don't eat Mexican, Like do you think that ever happens? Like, sorry, tacos sound great, but this is not for I don't do cilantro. 00:40:53 Speaker 1: Well, that one there was that one season where there was a vegan or no, she was allergic to a bunch of stuff. 00:41:00 Speaker 2: Oh, this is the one that that Rob I was telling us about Rob. I think it was Rob, wasn't it telling me about this? 00:41:06 Speaker 1: Where it was she had a famous meltdown because she eats at Applebee's. Yeah, she had like all these weird gluten free allergies and yeah, so mean. But I'm not sure she ever actually missed. She just missed out that time where she was so pissed. But I'm not sure if she actually skipped out on meals when she went to them. I can't remember. 00:41:24 Speaker 2: And I can tell you, I will guarantee you you you do not eat a single meal on that island that does not have sand in it, not one every there. You know there's you're just like, damn it, there's sand in my spaghetti, there's sand in my whatever. Yeah, you know that there's sand in everything. 00:41:40 Speaker 1: Yep. All right. So then Tiff says to Joe, don't take out Coach and Chrissy. So everybody's sort of that seems to be everybody's strategy up at first. Meanwhile, Chrissy has to tell Coach not to do haikus or sings sit down. 00:41:58 Speaker 2: And shut up, that's all she's saying. She's like, just shut uh oh, good advice. 00:42:05 Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Chrissy starts making the moves to get Rizzo, to get Aubrey, and Devn's is the ones to go out. Coach has to zip his mouth shut literally and does his you know, he says it's a travesty to keep the dragon slayer down this way. But luckily he has a quote. He's not sure who it's from, whether it's Sunsu, Nietzsche, or maybe the famous financial advisor Chris Varlas you dumb, he just like collects quotes. You could not pick three thinkers that are more un alike exactly. 00:42:43 Speaker 2: It's either Nietzsche, Yoda. 00:42:46 Speaker 1: Nietzschi, who's a philosopher who questions the nature of reality and all morality. Nietzsche's whole thing is to rise above any challenge, like basically, don't play a game, b make your own rules. Sunzu is how to like the how to stick to rules, and like right, how to manipulate rules. And then Chris Warless is a financial advisor who's as far as I can tell, if you're a financial advisor, it's be conservative and like don't take any risks, so like. 00:43:13 Speaker 2: Just it was either Pope Pius the second or Cindy Lauper, who said. 00:43:20 Speaker 1: It was either my aunt or Plato, I don't knows, like like talk about disparate sources of wisdom. It was either a four year old I talked to once at the playground or my great great or Nietzsche like dums. So he says, the essence of strategy is the mindset to do nothing. I did look this up. Turns out it's none of these three thinkers, some other financial advisor, not Chris Warless or whatever. So bravo. Coach Seri comes in flips everybody everybody's game. Yeah, It says, like, hey, children who don't know what to do, you take out two powers Coach and Chrissy because we have an opportunity to take out yeah too people, which is so smart. 00:44:05 Speaker 2: Of course, I can't believe there was even another conversation going on. It was amazing. 00:44:10 Speaker 1: But Rizzo does feel that he has to tell Joe, and this is the moment that I did fall in love with Rizzo because he isn't just a strategic player. He is still trying. He knows the way Joe is gonna feel and he knows that he has to be like, hey, I know, even though it would be easy to blindside Joe and just get the vote, I have to tell him I'm going to do this thing and try and get him on my side, which because he knows Joe. It's not the way Rizzo plays, but he knows the way Joe plays, and he's doing it right. 00:44:38 Speaker 2: Well. Remember the other guy who came for Rizzo before. The reason he came for him, I don't even remember his name now, unfortunately, but the reason that he came for him was because Rizzo, oh sorry, Charlie, was because Rizzo didn't vote for his partner of the whole last round. So obviously loyalty maybe not the greatest thing in the world for Rizzo, but he showed here, and I think maybe he learned from you think, possibly from a past mistake where it's like, Okay, I want to make it to the end. This guy's got to be on the jury. I don't want to see he's gonna he would vote for me solely because I told him the truth, And so I think maybe he's again trying to think a few moves ahead. 00:45:17 Speaker 1: He's good, he's learned. He's learned. Yeah, and then we are treated to a song. Oh, I love to be the dragon slayer, but don't cross me if you dare. And I'm going to tribal tonight, but I won't go down without a fight. Those people who doubt me will get their comeuppance. Oh that didn't rhyme will get their comeuppance tonight. 00:45:52 Speaker 2: I like how he rhymed tonight with tonight. It really kind of sold me on the whole song. That was either bon Jovi, No, I'm kidding, it was either bon Jovia Plato, It's two Lado, it was Socrates, or it was Billy Ray Cyrus. I can't remember which one, but yeah, it was. He's so and he admits it. He's like, I can't, I can't. He has Diary of the mouth, like I can't stop talking. I just this is me and the camera's on me. He knows the cameras on him. He's like, I'm an entertainer. I can't take the back seat. I have to take center stage. I can't stop talking. 00:46:27 Speaker 1: And I think, like, I you know, I know they always make they tee it up editing wise, I'm sure to make the tribal seem more exciting. So I'm assuming everybody went into tribal knowing how they were going to vote. But if anybody was on the fence, the fact that Coach just outright shows I had to keep my mouth shut all day and then just keeps talking about how he had to keep his mouth shut because otherwise he would ever anybody was on the fence, that turn against it. Like the whole point is to if you're keeping your mouth shut and sitting in the hammock, don't go to tribal and blurt out about how you were keeping it. Just shut up. But he can't help it, and he talks about a trail Ouzin out of pores and chattering and fingertip finger fingertips are talking, and I can see betraying it. He observed everything. He knows everything, because so basically, even though I kept my mouth shut, I know everything that's going right. 00:47:19 Speaker 2: And also because once I quieted myself for two hours, I got the lay of everybody. 00:47:26 Speaker 1: He knows every wow, and I'm telling you all about it now with my big mouth. 00:47:30 Speaker 2: It is a beautiful kind of narcissism, though, And you have to imagine, because you know, we talked about this in the last episode, and a lot of our comments were either I'm with you one hundred percent or Coach is the best player in the world. So it's like, people, you're either team Coach, in which case you love how great a character he is for a reality show, yes, or you don't get it. I'm firmly in the don't get it. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice man in real life, but the character he chooses is one that's off putting to me, and I can see how it would be, especially if I'm I mean, I'll take people I would never want to be trapped on an island with for a thousand Alex. I mean, like that's insane. And so but he he's it's a real It's why he's a reality star. He's a character. 00:48:13 Speaker 1: Yep, yeah, totally. So then Devin's makes this big tribal move which I didn't understand. Oh you know when they first did it, and then when he did it tonight, I was like, this is great, brilliant, a great move just to throw that question mark and every and like it just made perfect sad. I was like, oh, like you thought this through because he's like I got a clue and now I'm going to make my move, and everybody had to witness it, and it's like it was just enough of a question mark to throw everyone. 00:48:40 Speaker 2: You know, I honestly, when they hid the fake idol, I thought they were doing it for someone else to find it and. 00:48:47 Speaker 1: Try to play it. I didn't understand. 00:48:49 Speaker 2: I didn't understand it either. So the idea that he used it like this was was brilliant. I mean, this was actually it was just enough of a oh God, maybe I need to change my vote now. And the question that was going through my head was exactly what you just said. Do you think everybody already went in knowing it was going to be Coach and Chrissy? Because if so, then this didn't do anything. But if there was even a shadow of a doubt, this is all you need, was that one little e. This is why I can't wait to find I can't wait to hear what they say next week, you know. And I'm curious because the downside did this is Aubrey right like his partner, because she was so stoked that he found an idol that was going to protect them, But then he tells her, I'm not going to play it because I can't, and you know, so he keeps the lie going throughout tribal So I'm very curious how that's going to come off in the end. I have an idea, but again I don't know the rules. Do you physically need the idol to play the idol? 00:49:46 Speaker 1: Yes? 00:49:46 Speaker 2: Okay, So the best thing to do then is get rid of it and then say that someone stole. 00:49:51 Speaker 1: It, say you lost it. But why does he have to lie to Aubrey? Isn't Aubrey on like with him in the middle or part of his title line just now? 00:49:59 Speaker 2: But again it goes back to why tell somebody something you don't have to tell. As far as she knows, he can't play it till next week. It's still a real thing. The only other person that knows is Christian, who hasn't opened his mouth yet. So if Devin's comes up with my Idol's gone, somebody stole my idol? Who did it? And starts turning people on each other when it was a fake idol to begin with, it's a great way to just sow more discontent among everybody. And he doesn't have to then play it. He doesn't have to get to the idea that they faked it. 00:50:26 Speaker 1: That's some So I mean, I honestly, I think what he's planning to do is to try and find the real idol that's back on the island, because there is one back in play, because who had it because Aubrey played it last week? Right, so that when somebody plays an idol, it goes back. Right. Oh, so there's an idol hidden on the island. Probably Okay, it does it always go back? No, wait, hold on, in this case, that's not true because it's a Billie Eilish idol, So that didn't once it got played. 00:50:53 Speaker 2: I was hoping we were going to get through the whole episode without saying Billie Eilish Island. We didn't. 00:50:57 Speaker 1: No, okay. I was trying to remember. If they with it in their pocket, then it goes back to the person who gave it, right, if they play it, it just goes back out. Yeah, So it's back on the island. So I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to get back scramble to try and find an idol and then. 00:51:11 Speaker 2: Say that that was the idol he got a try on riz, God has the other Billie idol? 00:51:15 Speaker 1: Yes? 00:51:16 Speaker 2: Right, okay? 00:51:17 Speaker 1: And Ozsi that's right, and Asie and Surri which is and Saria is an advantage. So the three of them were like the power team, right, so we have the extra vote? Yes, wow, man, I know there are the three of them are like sitting pretty actually, And there's this moment like there are times when I am like so glad that I have a kid who keeps me in touch with the the slang. Because Rizzo said something that was so gen z. 00:51:45 Speaker 2: Oh god, what does he say? 00:51:46 Speaker 1: That was cinema? Is that right? That? 00:51:48 Speaker 2: I mean, like, oh my god, that was something that could have been in a movie. Yes, Oh god, okay, I've never even heard that before. 00:51:53 Speaker 1: I love the Indy says that all the time. He goes he says it kind of jokingly, he goes absolute Cinema and he's he does it. He started doing it to make fun of me because I talk about movies so intensely. But he I was like wait, and I thought he was just made that up. He's like, I don't no kids say that all the time, like absolute cinema. And then so when Rizza said this, I was like, oh my god, he's such a kid. He's still he's like closer to my son than I am to him. 00:52:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, oh you know what I mean, of course, but it was like my brain just had. 00:52:24 Speaker 1: That moment of like, oh right, culturally, yeah, twenty five Rizzo's like my son and him are like much closer to each other culturally, say I am to this. That's so interesting. Yeah, but anyway, I do like it because the fact that cinema is a positive thing makes me very happy because it closer culturally. 00:52:42 Speaker 2: They're actually closer in age than you two. 00:52:44 Speaker 1: Know, a cumcual thing that makes it. That's the more shocking thing because I still think of like us in the adult world and Indian the kid world. So to see someone who's in the adult world, a twenty five year old still kind of tethered to the kid world in this way or closer, I'm like, ah, anyway, but I do like that cinema is a positive thing, that that's become a positive adjective. 00:53:04 Speaker 2: And d came out and I don't you know again, I normally liked it. She gets to watch talk about how people look, but she was gorgeous. Oh my, we see. 00:53:14 Speaker 1: Well that's the best part about the juries. You get to see people after they've eaten and showered and it's hysterical and they get to pick their clothes. 00:53:21 Speaker 2: And her dress like everything looked great. She walked out. I was like, oh my god, she's staggering looking. 00:53:27 Speaker 1: That's the best part about tribal is like watching the jury come in and like what they choose to wear. Like, oh, coach, next week is gonna be ah, I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in a sarong or yes, he's gonna be wearing a crown, probably a crown of thorns. 00:53:42 Speaker 2: Right, Oh god, No, just a full dragon slayer outfit, like a like a like a cha mail, the full chain mail, a broadsword. 00:53:50 Speaker 1: He will have a sword, exactly. Great, all right, So then Jonathan starts whispering it's a live tribal uh. Then we get the good old Magellan quote. Let's pull out another quote from the coach, which is it was a nice quote actually, that you have to take the risks, leave your shores. And then he makes the joke that you know he was bludging too death in the Philippines. 00:54:13 Speaker 2: Yes, but that is a very long way to say a much earlier quote, which is just fortune favors the bold. That's that's the quote. That's been around forever in ancient Latin and Greek, and so it's like you're taking fifty words to do something that was done eons it. 00:54:30 Speaker 1: You don't sound as cool and fun and intelligent. He's so well read, Like do you think people sit around are like man Coach. He's so wise, he's read so many books. 00:54:40 Speaker 2: I'm sure where he's just googling. 00:54:42 Speaker 1: Well, that's what I'm The guy who does this kind of stuff is the guy who literally memorizes quote books but then can't remember which quotes he has, like the calendar that's like a quote a day, and he's like, that's that's not the same thing as actually reading Nietzsche, Like there's no doubt in mine, Like I have read Nietzsche. I have like you know, and I'm geared to you. This guy Coach has never written. 00:55:03 Speaker 2: Of course, you know, I'd like to quote something from an author named May twenty first. 00:55:09 Speaker 1: It's like it's like, no, what what that's not right? All the names underneath the quote. I love it he does. 00:55:17 Speaker 2: He has a quota day calendar at. 00:55:19 Speaker 1: The service level of a deep thinker, right, It's like the like, let me show you how deep I am with my most surface presentations exactly pretty much. That's that's kind of my least favorite thing. 00:55:30 Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I know, I get it, I get it. 00:55:32 Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, Christy and Coach are voted out, which I do like. After this very entertaining Coach episode, I kind of wanted to stick around, but no, ultimately I am glad. I am glad they are gone. Chrissy. Chrissy has not been very interesting to me. I know, she's not stood out in many ways. I don't think she's played very well, and Coach just bugs the hell out of me. And I don't like Yeah, I don't like not. I mean, it's one thing to talk about his personality and stuff, but I truly like even taking the keys from Oussie in the beginning, which was reference and it's a bummer man, like this is not the way I would play yep. 00:56:05 Speaker 2: But and again it's like the equivalent of somebody who lives their life saying they're a religious person but then is actually a shit. Yes, And it's that same kind of thing where it's like you you talk about being it's all about respecting to that, and then you kind of do underhanded stuff and and and so it's yes, and he's got to blame everybody else for it, right. 00:56:24 Speaker 1: I only played as a dragon Slayer because of what tifted or he did. 00:56:28 Speaker 2: And it's like, shut up, Ozzie crushed his back getting those keys and you swooped in it. Now again, had you said you were going to do that at the beginning, right, every man for themselves? Right, fine, then then do that, but don't be like I'm playing with honor. 00:56:41 Speaker 1: Or Just say hey man, I'm sorry, but this is the way I play in cities like I play with honor and integray. That's what I'm saying. 00:56:48 Speaker 2: It's yeah, I know, you know, yeah, very strange. 00:56:51 Speaker 1: All right, well, I'm assuming you don't have a Survivor of the week. 00:56:54 Speaker 2: You would assume, wrong, sir, I'm wrong because it's Will his This is this history of survivors and stuff and survive woohoo, yeah, thank you. 00:57:10 Speaker 1: This week. 00:57:11 Speaker 2: I'm just getting this right from my brain, but I have to type in my code before I can get to my brain. Is of course, Uh the eighteen twenty three frontiersman Hugh Glass who endured Do you. 00:57:23 Speaker 1: Know Hugh Glass? Is this what the revenue is based on? 00:57:27 Speaker 2: No? It was actually what's eating Gilbert Grape. No, yes, it is, of course The Revenant, and I just randomly picked another Leonardo DiCaprio movie. This is what The Departed was based on. He endured one of history's most harrowing ordeals after being mauled by a grizzly bear and abandoned by his companions, a rapie grizzly bear. 00:57:45 Speaker 1: If you watched A Revenant, this is a rapier bear. 00:57:48 Speaker 2: He did, he had, he had some issues. Against all odds, Glass crawled more than two hundred miles, which, in eighteen twenty three means you don't know where you live anymore through unforgiving wilderness to reach safety. His epic survivor, marked by tenacity and resourcefulness, has inspired countless retellings in books and film, including the celebrated movie. 00:58:08 Speaker 1: A Revenant, which I did not love. Do you like the Revenue? 00:58:12 Speaker 2: Eh? It was fine. 00:58:15 Speaker 1: I don't like movies that are like, let me let me show you how hard something is by making it hard for you to watch. Yeah, let's be as unentertaining as possible to show you intensity. 00:58:26 Speaker 2: I get why, I get, I get what happened, you know, I get why you won all that stuff. But I'm also not a big film guy. The older I'm getting, I'm getting just more into movies than films. Just be schlocky, wash over me for ninety minutes and let me get out. 00:58:39 Speaker 1: So you don't want absolute cinema, absolute absolutely eating a liver, needing a real liver, absolute cinema, No, not for me. 00:58:51 Speaker 2: You know what. 00:58:51 Speaker 1: My biggest problem with The Revenant actually, honestly is it's shot everywhere but North America because they were chasing, they were like strong going, like in terms of the landscape because of global warming, and it never looks like North American landscape to me, and that like really bugs me. It's wilderness, but it's like and it's like, this is supposed to be this like Western American story, and I was just like, I don't recognize the trees, I don't recognize the mountains. It just always felt like a foreign landscape to me, which it was. It's like shot in Peru mostly or like South America, a lot of play. 00:59:26 Speaker 2: And I'm like, still not as good as a twist as Titanic, though I didn't see that ending coming at all. 00:59:31 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's like yeah, whole boat goes down. Wow, I know, it's crazy I know nuts well you've been listening to pod meats swirled. The torches may be snuffed, but our questionable analysis burns on. We'll see you next time at Tribal Trap.
