you've taken the time to listen to this show. But enough our shilling.
It is time for me to let you guys sit back and enjoy my conversation
with the One the Only Andy Kay. I mean, all I do is
podcasts these days. But man, you said you've got two small catality your
kids six and a half and one before next week. Okay myself, I
pity you. Man, I've got a five year old and an almost three
year old on the weekend and holy shit, like pick them up from daycare,
dinner time, bed time. It is just a circus that just feels
like grandhole day. Right. It's madness, man. I mean, at
the end of the day, I guess I know. I expected parenthood to
be a challenge, to say the least, and there's been parts where I
thought, oh, this is just next level where you're like, you know,
how am I going to get through this? And I'm talking like,
you know, our youngest with sleep issues, college reflux, and sit my
daughter had silent reflux, so I know you pay mate. Oh, the
first eight months of our second born, basically he was waking every twenty to
forty minutes. So my wife and I we were like literally zombies. I
remember on my lunch breaks trying to muster up like the energy to go for
a walk, and I was just dragging my feet and my mind was just
in this haze, gone like what is this? This is not like,
this is not living. But with anything, it passes and it gets easier.
And look, you know, chat, there's going to always be challenges.
But when you think you get past some of those initial stages and you
can start doing more when you take them out and you know, you're a
bit more social and you don't feel like it's kind of wrapping up your whole
life in this kind of in this situation, it actually, you know,
gets pretty enjoyable. And of course, you know, the positives obviously always
outweigh the negatives. But yeah, man, I'm just it's been the last
few years. Some crazy shit's gone on, but I think we're slowly at
that point where you know, our artist is in prep, our second will
be in prep, not next year, the year after. And look like
you know, I'm sure like yourself, you've Every parent you know has their
challenges. Some you know, have different experiences. But I don't think there's
anyone on the planet who can be like, no, it's all being a
brief and when they do, you're like, bullshit, yeah, absolutely bullshit.
You're not yet I don't buy it for a second. And some like
to betray it, like on social media, like they'll be like everything's amazing.
Then look I get it, like you know, you're not going to
be always posting the absolute shit and the lows. But I think sometimes that
makes it more relatable when you do hear other people and you're like, you
know, talk into mats who have kids, you know, similar ages or
even different ages, it doesn't even matter, just saying you know, it's
such and such has gone through this period where they won't eat and they run
off at dinner time, or I can't get them to daycare in the morning.
It's always such a struggle or they're not sleeping at night, they're coming
into the room, whatever it might be. And honestly, I don't know
about you, man, but I look back now at what my parents,
you know, kind of I'm sure that they everything that they went through,
and I have such a like a grade of fonder, you know, appreciation
for you know, because at the time, you don't know, you don't
have a clue. You just you're the kids. So you're just doing whatever
the hell you want. But quite dad, basically basically so yeah, no,
just long day man, working mornings and afternoons leading into bedtime. You
know, it's pretty chaotic. But yeah, both boys are I think one's
asleep and one's kind of too much. Yeah, I honestly I would have
loved to have rolled the dice for a third if I could guarantee a girl.
But I was just like another boy. It's already like there's no off
button. It's just the second they're both up, they're they're just don't get
yeah, and don't get me wrong, like they're actually quite in the scheme
of things. Excuse me, like well behaved. It's just the constant just
you know, there's no as I said, there's no off put button.
It's just this constant high level of energy and loudness and just and it can
you know, I'm a pretty chill guy, and it takes a lot for
me to you know, kind of I get to that point where I'm just
like, but you know, they if anyone can push those buttons, those
boys can. But when they work out how to do it too, and
you know, sometimes like you know, they figured it out and they're doing
it just to you know, either test the boundaries or get a rise out
of you. But it's all good, man, It's just it's just parenthood.
Man. How do you find time to do Simpsons memes between all these
things? Yeah? I get asked that a lot. So after having done
this for what I think the first meme of at least the first Simpsons meme
I ever made would have been twenty sixteen. So were you doing memes before
the Simpsons ones? Was that sort of just you were doing memes and you
transition ones? Yeah? Yeah, more just like just stuffing around with making
memes about mates, giving them shit, just you know, croping their faces
and you know, either making something like you know, I guess pop culture
related at the time, with one of them or just something stupid. You
were the meme guy at work with you? Yeah, yeah, pretty much.
I mean I always had a bit of an art background, even though
my job has literally nothing to do with that. And I always, you
know, used to do studio arts and drawing and you know, graphic design
when I was in high school. So I always you know, had,
I guess, that artistic side, and I always loved The Simpsons, and
somehow I don't even like I remember just falling you know, into I think
it was the first page, was maybe even the first rock bottom, and
I just started, you know, just making a few, as basic as
it was, and I look back now and I'm just like, oh god,
that's terrible. But it was just a bit of fun and it kind
of just started to kind of steamroll from there where I guess they got a
bit more popular, and you know that comes with the good and the bad,
of course, you know, you know, that's just expected. You
know. The more that the memes kind of became popular, you know,
the more I guess haters came out of the closet too. Yeah, which
which I want to touch on that show. It's just it was absolutely I
can I can look. People who might hear this who already don't like me,
I can explain I know, you know, people you know who do
know me and love my stuff will agree, but I'm happy to touch on
it now. The bottom line for me is I have never, once in
my life ever gone to someone's meme and criticize them, given them shit.
I just it just doesn't for me. It adds absolutely no value. What
am I trying to achieve? Why am I bringing this person down and they're
giving it a go unless you know, of course they're being complete dicks and
they're being super racist, and even still I wouldn't say anything, but as
like an admin, I would just boot them, like, you know,
you, what are you doing? Like this is just you know, you're
pushing a political view or you know, something misogynistic just for the sake of
it and basically using Simpsons memes as a template like bullshit, don't do that.
So we have the admin of a group or a page. I've been
admin for like four groups. Yeah, I'm still admint, so rock bottom
boat posting, so basically, well, at the moment, I'm not and
again there's a long story behind that. I'm not going to go into it.
But but look, I basically know all the admins. It was a
misunderstanding where I was kind of flushing out a troll using the boat posting account
to try and show that, you know, they were just basically even me
shit because it was me, and you know, if I posted something as
someone else and a blow and behold, they were commenting really nicely, this
is awesome. And when I kind of said hey, it's it's it's end
in this admin took it as you know, hey, you're using your authority
to get like somebody, are you actually kidding me? Facebook groups? It's
just so so in terms of the hate stuff, Look, this is how
I look at it, and I've always looked at it. I appreciate,
for whatever reason, some people don't like when someone or something gets popular.
For some reason, they have perhaps some of their own issues going on,
whether it's you know, I guess for a lack of a better word,
maybe some hatred towards someone else who might be doing better than it's Biggerustralia to
be things. It is, the more popular I became, the more I
would receive Hey, don't get me wrong, The positives always heavily out weigh
the negatives, but I'd have a lot of people coming out of the woodwork.
You know, your memes suck you this, blah blah blah. And
you know, I remember this. I still to this day that one of
the craziest things is I was making memes. Got to a point, and
I'm happy to admit this, where I was approached by a few different companies
to actually make memes, so a sporty memorabilia company here in Melbourne. Believe
it or not, I was making memes for a cryptocurrency agency for their social
media, for their social media, and a few others and basically I was
getting paid and it was amazing because I was doing something I loved as a
hobby and people saw, perhaps you know, the merit in what I was
doing, and they said, look, you're the guy. You have to
be the guy to do this for us. Who's turning down a role when
they were They've been approached to be paid to do something they love. Why
would you ever say no? Absolutely So the way I think this got misinterpreted
was somehow someone got a drift of this and they got their wife to private
message me on Instagram to say that they had a meme that they wanted me
to make blah blah blah, and they needed it for their company, and
they were willing to, you know, do a deal kind of thing of
it was ongoing, and because I had they said, oh, you know,
is there a price? And I said, well, look, I've
made literally no you know, no, lie, I've made dozens of memes
for people just for no rick because they've said, look, man, can
you make this meme? And if I've got time, I'll make it.
I had a guy whose brother passed away. He's like, could you crop
his face in that one of Homer looking into the clouds? That would mean
a lot to me, And I did it. Why would I charge?
But because I thought this was a business related thing, I said a price
and that was it. They just so for forever. Since then it spread.
Andy CA's you know, a douchebag. He charges people for memes blah
blah blah. And I was like, oh my god. So this fifty
dollars thing came up always that's the thing. It's the fifty dollar thing for
me. The fifty dollars is just like, so we used to post your
stuff, right, and then we start posting stuff everyone's like, oh,
it's Nendy k one was he charging fifty dollars for it? And I was
like, what's going on here? What happened? So that's it. So
basically I see it. I'm not stupid, man, I can see it.
I know it's going on. Like. It doesn't FaZe me. It
used to. It used to really piss me off because I was like,
guys, I was doing what I thought was an ongoing business transaction. It
wasn't someone saying, hey, man, you know I've done that dozens Literally,
I can show you my inbox, no problem, I have nothing to
prove. But because that, this guy obviously had an issue with me already.
He's looking for something and he looked at it. And so people started
thinking what I was doing was making my memes and somehow trying to just sell
them. I'm like, how is that even possible. I post them online,
anyone can take them. Yeah. I was making memes for people who
approached me in a company setting. So that's some of the stuff I cop
And you know, it's funny. When I was a nobody in terms of
making memes, no one gave me hard time. But suddenly it was Andy
Kay Andy Kay and people. Some people hated that. But why though I
don't understand why. Well, it's, like you said, the tall popular
syndrome, I honestly believe without sounding I don't want to sound cocky because I
know my memes are popular. Do they appeal to everyone? Absolutely not.
I'm not stupid. Do I make some memes that are a bit forced or
aren't great? Absolutely? But people think, oh, kind of f you
because you're popular. I'm gonna I've said, honestly, man, if you've
read some of the comments I've read and the hate I've received just over fucking
Simpson's memes, it's it's pretty sad. And I'm like, what's happened in
your life for you to be so angry and bitter because someone else is making
memes? And is because you legitimately hate my memes so much and it causes
you anger that they're popular? Or is it because you've posted memes that haven't
really garnered much traction and because of that there's some you know, hostility towards
them because you're not replicating that. There could be everything and in between of
that, and it doesn't, As I said, now, it doesn't phase
me because this is what I used to do. I admit another thing I
used to cop shit for was and he's you know, you know, really
you know weak, you know, he's he's got no skin. It's just
and you know, he gets so angry, and it's like, all right,
maybe I used to react in a bad way and I wouldn't talk about
you know, I wasn't you know, using horrible you know, swear words
or you know, just being down. I was just being a smart ass
back. But the reason I guess I say that is because at the end
of the day, people only see it at face value. It's like,
well you haven't seen you know, in one day, I could have copped
ten people just out of the blue, like fuck you, you suck.
Your memes are horrible. I'm sorry. I don't give a crap who you
are. That's going to start to wear you down, and you sometimes can
snap and just be like dude, like what's your problem? Now? If
someone does it, I just block them. So that's for me. It's
just like, look, I can't win. I just trying to make people
laugh. I'm not doing it for popularity. I never started for that reason.
I genuinely love the artistic side as far as using you know, the
different apps on my phone. Yeah, I want to touch on how you
do make you memes a little bit later as well. Yeah. Absolutely,
man, absolutely, And it's kind of one of those things where yeah,
because it's kind of just become this association like fifty dollars Andy, he's you
know, he's he's weak, he can't take criticism. It's like, man,
why are you criticizing anyway? First of all, I would never do
that to anyone. What's the point, as I said earlier, what am
I trying to achieve from this? Like, I don't understand what the ultimate
goal is. Do you think like that you bringing me down? Is that
making you feel better about yourself? Like do you have you know, is
it because you've got, you know, self esteem issues? Is it that
your life is at a point where you're so angry the world that this is
how you kind of And that's the thing. It's social media. Anyone behind
a computer or a phone can have no consequences for being an absolute douche and
can rip into you. It's like kids at primary school. They didn't know
what they were doing. But man, sometimes you know, I've had like
death threats and I'm going to break your legs over memes. I've had people
send me death threats to our Facebook page because we didn't give credit to a
meme that they made. But it's like, because someone sent us the meme
and I was like, who made this, Oh, I don't know,
and I'm like, well, and that's yeah, so you put it on
and then I'll post in the comments if you know who made this, let
me know, which is what I did on this particular one. And they
went ballistic in an inbox and I was like, fuck, it's just it's
not like you were trying to claim it. It's like me, Brendan Dando,
I made this people. Seriously, man, some people just need a
fucking reality check and just to snap out of it. This is why I
hate social media, you know, in that regard. But look, you
know I've admined for three or four different pages at least with my own Instagram.
You know, I can just control because you know, in the early
days when I started my Instagram, you know, I had all the dickheads
who you know, used to cause me grief, especially in you know,
see Compy Global Hope Omeganete page. I left that ages ago, but that
was one of the cess pools where you know, people just it became like,
oh, people are bashing Andy, and you'd get all the kind of
bam wagons, you know, guys like, oh, I guess this is
what we're doing now. It's like they're not shitting on New Simpsons and more
than sitting on Andy k memes. Yeah, yeah, it's just and you
know, just to put it into perspective, I like have got hate pages,
like literally mean, people have created pages. Just one's called like no
Andy's you know page. I think it's hilarious, Like like, if you've
invested your time and energy to create a page to hate someone over Simpson's memes,
you're the one who needs to relook and reevaluate your own life because that's
fucking pathetic. And I know what it again, it was like there was
some bond someone who and this is what I always find the most amusing out
of out of all the dickheads who you know, like the troll is they
want to rip you to shreds. But the minute you even stand up for
yourself, even if you're not derogatory at all, they'll be like, oh,
yep, so you can't take criticisms, it's like okay, or they
rip you to shreds and they want a reaction, and then when you might
boot him out of the group, they're like, he's an absolute asshole.
It's like, my god, you were the biggest douche ever. You've absolutely
ripped me to shreds for nothing. Mind you. Again, I keep to
myself, like I like other people's memes or comments, you know, if
I find it funny that a lot of other you know, me makers I
really respect. But I've never, as I said, given someone a hard
time. So it's like it just boggles the mind when how often it could
happen. So I've booted a lot of people out of pages purely because not
even to do with me. I see it where they're ridiculing someone just ripping
into them, and I'm like booted. And of course I'll cop the flak
if they find out, you know. So look, it comes with I
guess the territory as far as someone I mean, look, I've never you
know, had an opportunity to be in a situation, I mean, like
I got, you know, in some situations where I was like even to
pinch myself moment, like the fact that. I've even had Nancy cart Right
like and comment my memes on Instagram. Yeah, the people that work on
the show are liking your stuff, so it's like nobody think, you know,
you know, that's it. Me and Bill Oakley talk quite a bit.
I'm gonna ask whether you actually been in touch because he likes nearly all
of you posts. Yeah, oh yeah, so he's been following me.
He's re shared and retweeted literally like dozens and dozens and dozens like on his
you know, Twitter and stuff, and on his Instagram, and you know,
obviously you know the legend who created Steam tams Man. I mean,
I can't believe he's following me and my account and loves my stuff. And
it does it puts it into perspective. You're like, so some some guy
you know from Bloody, you know, Frankston hates my memes and hates me
apparently because they're popular. But I've got the voice of Bart Simpson and the
original writers. And then I again, like I've had some you know,
amazing stuff like that, so it puts it into perspective. If I didn't
have kind of you know, a good reception too. I mean, I'm
not saying that's the reason to do it, but it helps to kind of
push some of the hate stuff aside and say, Okay, I know,
you know, I realize why I enjoy doing this. I even had someone
from the Hollywood Reporter interview me from New York over the so that was cool.
And what was that for when it's about two you two and a half
years ago and she was actually in the process. I don't know if it's
finished. I haven't touched base with her for a little while, but she
was writing a book and she's got a lot of contacts with like, you
know, a lot of the voice ACKed and the writers. And she just
said, you're you know, everyone seems to know Andy k memes. And
she asked me, like, you know, would you like to be interviewed
and what's your process? And I was just like, wow, man,
that's awesome, Like I'd love to so in terms of how I make them,
I think, going back to what you said before, man, they
don't take that long these days, because I think you kind of fine tune
you know your craft a bit. And you know, I literally used two
or three basic apps on my phone. Which apps are they? Yep?
So hm the app for cropping is photo Lasso. So basically, anytime you
need to cut out a head or body part in terms of the actual art
side where you're actually doing the coloring and you know, adding things like facial
features or whatever, it's just called art Studio. And the other one is
just a auto cap free it's the free app for the text. So so
basically my process is usually Okay, you get the idea and then I basically
will figure out like all the screen grabs I need. So Frankiak's your best
friend for that, mate, what a life saver. Ray. If it
wasn't for Frankiak, I couldn't do eighty five ninety percent of the memes I
make, so that's been absolutely amazing. And then basically I'll get them all
laid out and then I'll be like, okay, so I need to cross
his face on Homer's body, so then I'll you know, crop them all
out, put them on. Obviously they look really shit at that point,
so then I go into the art app and then I do all the adjusting
color changes, cropping out the background if Homer's heads a bit more out of
the way than you know, this character, and then once all that's done.
I basically input it into the text app, add the font, and
then basically that's it. It's kind of like, you know, you know,
I get like sometimes after doing it for so long, you know,
you might be an occasion like a shit, you know, what's my next
kind of idea? But it does, you know, for me at least
anyway, Like I don't have to sit there just really like straining out an
idea for like hours, something will just come to me and believe it or
not. Man Like I you know, some people think I have to watch
the Simpsons like every day. I haven't watched the proper episode in so so
long. Our viewing habits have changed so like it's all on Disney Plus now.
Plus we've got two small kids, so it's like they watch what they
want to watch half more most of the time these days for me and you
in this household. So I was saying to the other day to my co
host, I was like, I feel like you might spare time. I
barely watched the Simpsons anymore, which was like sad to me because like the
Simpsons is does always be on, Like have you found that you don't watch
them anywhere as much as you used to Yeah, man, I really don't.
I know that as my boys get older, I'll you know, introduce
them to it and really get you know, because it's a absolute masterpiece of
his show, especially of course the Golden era. So that I find myself,
look, man, between working full time, kids, trying to balance
any form of social life, and you know, by the time I,
you know, put the boys to bed and I want to watch something,
generally I'm not you know, we might watch something on Netflix or you know,
a new series on Disney Plus or something. So I actually don't have
much time these days to watch the Simmas. But because I've watched every episode
so many times and because I make means literally still to this day, basically
daily, it's so ingrained in my head that I don't I don't think I
need to, man like anything from season you know one on two you'd rarely
touch on unless it's like a they didn't They didn't put them on TV very
often anywhere on Channel ten. I feel like it was like three onwards,
and even three not so much. It was more like four through like eight,
I reckon the most. Do you remember I am the first time you
ever watched The Simpsons ever? I remember the first time I ever saw them.
So there's a couple of stories. Yeah, so the first time I
ever saw them was I was a huge Muppets fan when I was a kid.
I was a big Muppet kid, and they used to play them apparently
like six am on Channel ten every weekday. My Naan used to like record
it for me before she go to work, and I would go to NaN's
place and watch the Muppet Show. I remember because obviously because she was putting
it on before she go to work, they'd get the ads in between the
episodes or throughout the episodes, and it was like, and she's I've still
got the tape. I kept it because she passed away. I kept the
tape from her house. It was like new show coming to Channel ten.
It's the Simpsons. It's the fucking first Channel ten bromo. Yeah, wow,
I remember going. They looked different because they were yellow and stuff,
and I never watched it. But apparently I don't remember doing this, thank
god. But Bad dream House I've told a story a million times, but
a Bad Dream House was apparently on at my house. I would have been
three, maybe four most of the time. When Maggie goes to the draw
and the kitchen and gets a knife out. I did the exact same thing,
and I was banned from watching the Simpsons un til I was six.
Oh wow, okay, they man, there you go. So I think
that's where my love for the show came. Because I was not allowed to
watch it. I'd occasionally, like see that a friend's house or things like
that because they have like those videotapes where they had like the four episodes on
it and things like that, or they'd rent the videos from the shop.
But like I was allowed to properly watch it till I was six, and
now I just consumed it so much, you know, oh absolutely, Like
I recall me and my brother excuse me, watching TV at our very first
house, So this would have been I suppose. I guess the first time
they aired Simpsons was eighty nine, ninety or was it ninety ninety one the
first time we got as I believe it was ninety one, right, maybe
ninety one, because I recall seeing the ads and like you said, man,
something about the animation the yellow characters just like drew me into it.
And I remember watching the very first episode on the couch sitting next to my
dad and my brother sitting next to my mind and just watching the very first
episode and just being like already, just something about it, just you know,
gravitated towards it. And I remember just you know, Saturday and you
know, week nights at ten o'clock sorry, and six o'clock and just being
like, this is the best. And it's kind of weird when you look
back, actually being at a stage kind of similar to how I was with
Seinfeld where you were kind of watching episodes come out at that time during the
Golden Era and not just realizing what an impact this show perhaps was actually having.
And then I remember, I'll never forget this as well, when from
recollection, I think it was they changed show runners. I think around season
twelve. Yeah, that's when we went back to al Gene. Yeah.
Yeah, And that's when I noticed a huge for me personally, a huge
drop in quality as far as the direction of the show, the absurdity,
just the lack of heart in it. And it's like, ah, it
didn't sit too well. And then as the years kind of progressed, and
it's amazing how you can still you know, look back. I mean,
honestly, I've seen a handful of new episodes, and you know, I
don't sit there on you know, this is you know, complete dog shit.
But some episodes I'm like, jeez, it's just it's you know,
it's just not the same. And that's fine. It doesn't have to be.
You know, it might be drawing a whole new generation of fans,
but for me, just living and breathing it through the nineties was just you
know, and who doesn't know. I mean then some of the most did
not the most recognizable cartoons ever and because of you know the fact that I
had the art background, I love the Simpsons, you know, and trying
to infuse a bit of humor you know into that. And then it kind
of took a life of its own because for me, you know, also
growing up gaming and loving you know, Super Nintendo and you know, Mortal
Kombat, Mario cart Street Fighter. So I started incorporating a lot of crossovers
with my meme. So a lot of the relatable ones too seem to do
quite well. Did you do the Rainbow Bridge one? That was the best?
Yeah? Yeah, holy shit, that was a fucking peak. That
was other man, I've done a lot of you know, and again that's
another thing. Sometimes I cop shit for and that's fine. Like I guess,
sometimes I do go through a stage of having something I kind of go
back to, and it's because I love it. You know, I've done
a lot of crossovers with yeah, street Fighter, wa Combat. But then
again, I've done a heap with movies, Terminate a Ninja, Turtles,
Jurassic Park, you know, and then it's it's so it's pop culture stuff,
you know, stuff with bands, stuff with TV shows. But look,
man, I you know I've I look back and yeah, I mean
I had a meme, a real basic one recently where it was I made
it where it was an up view of Homer's face sitting on the couch,
and I made the kind of quote every fifty year old guy posting their profile
pick that went so well. Well, man, I was scrolling through my
feed and I had a recommendation for this meme page and of course, low
and behold, someone's posted that meme. It was at that stage I don't
even check again, it was one hundred and sixty six k likes. Crazy.
I was like, what the what the hell? Some chick had just
found it and she'd reposted. And again I didn't care, like honestly,
like I used to care, and it's like whatever, like do you still
put your name on them? Or do you stop doing that? Look?
No, I do occasionally, but honestly, like sometimes I just like,
what's the point? Like I I, you know, I used to put
andy kay as an actual watermark, and then I'd have to go into another
app to put the watermark. So now I just kind of hand wrote a
K. If I remember, I'll do it. But sometimes I'm just like
whatever, like I'll just do it. I'll just quickly put it up and
just be like, man, you know it's gone. Stop. You're probably
going to crop out the watermark anyway in some way. Yeah, I had.
I've had a page, an Argentinian page, and they were literally stealing
every one of my memes and just cutting out all the text and replacing it
with again at the time it used to put it. I've just got to
look at it now and just be like, hey, people like my stuff
whatever, that's cool. Like, you know, I've had people be like,
hey, isn't this yours? Man? Like there's a guy on Reddit
who is like getting like hundreds of thousand likes for all your memes and that's
all good. I've seen, as I said, other Instagram pages use my
stuff and dad like it's it's crazy man, Like I don't. I guess
that's a way of saying, hey, you know if they like it.
So, I mean, it'd be nice occasionally if someone you know would credit
you and just say yeah, this is But you know, if it's in
a forum, whereas like bought posting, you know, you can call someone
out pretty easy, like come on, dude, that that's my hand.
But if it's some Argentinian guy and you're just like, they're never going to
respond. Nah, I don't care. I always try to link to your
Instagram page these days, I do you put one of yours up? Yeah?
And little man, as I said, like, it's funny how I
could guarantee you, like, if you put a number of my memes up
without crediting me, you'll see, you know, a very different response in
the comments section. That's why started putting the Instagram link, because when I
was putting credit Andy Kay, all these comments are coming through blah blah,
and I'm like, well just put a link to his Instagram page instead,
and people just didn't realize it was you half to talk it was just Simpson's
meme factory, like, oh this is great. I see you. If
I had to put andy K, you would have shooed on this for no
reason. And that was like the guy that I kind of I'm not going
to name him, but he basically has about I've had the block can of
his accounts. He's like obsessed man, and he just keep going creating new
accounts. Bill. There's Bill as mac grainy, but no, like there
was this one guy. He just was a hell bent on giving me a
hard time. And as I said, I did the little theory of posting
something as not me as the bought posting kind of admin, and he loved
it and was commenting, and I think the comment even was along the lines
of so this is so much better than something andy K could ever do.
And I pissing myself. And then when I wrote under it, you're joking,
right, and he's like, what do you mean? I'm like,
you know, this is actually an Andy King mean And then from there the
other admin took it as you. I was just like, I'm not going
to get into it. Look, I'm just trying to prove a point.
And I flushed him out to just get rid of him, and I was
proven a point again that like, you know, some people will just hate
on you because they hear the name, Like I've seen the guys like recently,
like some guys who'll be like fifty dollars and I'll be like, hey,
man, if you want to believe a rumor started by someone who you
know has his own bloody issues and created this out of some hatred to towards
me based on no truth, like the fact that he thought like, yeah,
I just make means and try and some I don't understand why that bothered
people anyway, even if you did that. Ah, it's just like,
oh, how dare you try to earn money for something that should be free?
But you've made something? Who cares if you're trying to You're not making
them pay you, so why do they care? I just don't understand that.
And and the concept was so stupid, like they legitimately thought I was
making memes and somehow like, well how would I even like would I put
them on a website and people would bid for them? It's not bloody NFT,
it's not an NFT. So I don't know. And it's almost like
that angered people so much. For some reason, and it wasn't even true.
Like, as I said, I was open and honest about saying I
have made means for companies. The fact that they approached me, I think
is amazing. That I was getting paid a weekly salary to make me.
Maybe that's jealousy, Maybe that's there are insecurity. I don't know. I
don't really care. But it resulted in just this backlash, you know,
Like I had one guy just ripping into me because I was using at one
stage a template and I was basing the joke on a rhyme. Okay,
whatever, big deal, and he just thought it was He just he couldn't
let that go. I'm so clever and he's rhyme in a word with another
word. I'm like, why are you getting angry? Man? It's a
meme. What's the problem. Do you still get them with that? Still?
The people complaining about you and bring this up look generally nowhere near as
much at all. And I think a big part of that is because I
left you know, the most toxic page a few years back, and you'll
find it. I've blocked a lot of people, and I cop shit for
that because another guy's, oh, that's the other thing. Andy can't take
criticism, so he blocks him on No, no, no, no,
no, I'll block you because you're a fucking dickhead. I blocked you because
you're berating me, you're abusing me, and I'm meant to just sit there
and take it. Well, No, I've got better things to do with
my life than listen to your crap. I don't need your negativity. If
you hate me, good for you, man. But to go out of
your way to just say some shit, good for you, man. But
I don't want to hear it. So I'll block you because at the end
of the day, I used to argue with dickheads like you, and what
am I? I'm getting pissed off about it. You can't win no matter
how you react to those kind of people. We win, Yep. I've
had guys like where they just want to start a fight, So you could
just joke back, be really polite and doesn't matter. As you said,
it doesn't matter what I would say. It doesn't it. They've already made
their mind up that they hate you. Again. It could be just based
on hearing some other person talk crap about me, and that's it. So
look, you know that's the negative side, that's fine. You know,
As I said, I do get way more positive feedback. And I've had
some amazing situations from you know, your Bill Oakley is to interviews. And
I know this sounds crazy, man, but I literally have been approached at
least i'd say six seven times here in Melbourne by people who have recognized me,
Like whether it's at a club. I was even at a Bucks night
once at the streets for a Bucks. Did you and put your face on
memes? Sometimes? Did? You can't remember those ones? No? Man,
just going to my profile sust me out. Yeah, they probably see
and Andy Kay, they click on my profile, I guess they see what
I look like. And so I'd be out and i'd literally have a guy
come up, like even recently happened twice. I was at like a Djight
event and some guy kind of looking at me. I'm trying to suss out
is he trying to like start a fight? And no, it came over
you, Andy Kay and have a chat. That's cool, man, Like
I you know, I love I love that. You know, it's crazy,
like you know it all because of like some symptons memes. But yeah,
so like the process, man, I mean in terms of finding tire,
I'm you know, I do find it pretty relaxing. So I might
put the boys to bed, I might have maybe thirty forty five minutes before
maybe my wife will, you know, joining me watching TV. She might
go have a shower or do do something else, and I'll just find that
little window man and I might have an idea already kind of going around,
and I'll just put it into action and look, some memes you can knock
out a lot quicker. Some give you go through my Instagram, you can
see I've put a lot more work into it. But I don't find it
like a like a hassle. I really enjoy it. It's like I guess,
kind of like with Jim, for me, it's therapeutic, like I
go to the gym because I genuinely enjoy it. I don't think it's about
an appearance thing so much as it is is the release you might have,
you know, a hard day, or you don't even have to have a
hard day. It's just this kind of some form of release as far as
making memes. You know, it's like you switch off and you kind of
go into autopilot mode, like you just on there. If I had to
sit behind a computer and do it, I probably would never have made a
meme in my life. But it's convenience of on the phone, man,
so shit and making meme at the same time, killing two birds beautiful beautiful.
So yeah. Man, it's been a crazy six seven years of doing
this, all the highs and lows as far as but at the end of
the day, look, I'm a dad, I'm a husband, I work
full time. It's a hobby. It's cool that I've had some recognition.
As I said, it goes sometimes hand in hand. And look, man,
I'm a nobody. I'm just someone who makes memes. I can only
imagine, you know, like a celebrity, some of the hate that they
must cop and I see it. I see any bands, you know on
social media, everyone's everyone's you know, can has a voice behind their computer
or their phone. So if I'm copying what I cop just as someone who
makes memes, I can only imagine what it'd be like for someone who voices
in aion or you know, has other people having to run their accounts.
Because I've seen some you know some you know, someone says their Trump or
their Biden and automatically, their their Instagram account becomes a hate page for the
other people on the other side. That's the nature of where we're at in
twenty twenty three. I keep politics out of everything we do. It's just
not worth the fucking hassle. Dude. If you look through my memes,
you'll never see one political memes. It's not worth it. The only time
I've ever included like an Australian like prime minister or something is for the joke,
as far as it could be based around their name. It's not about
their political stance or their that doesn't like for example, like you know rock
Bottom. I'm an admin and it's at a point now and for a very
long time where it's as I said before, people are using Simpson's memes just
as basically a conduit to push their political views. So there's a lot of
hatred and it's just like, man, that's why I avoid it. Because
we started the podcast. That's what our pages for the podcast essentially, But
we sort of became like a mean thing as well. But we started the
podcast to just sort of create a like minded Simpsons community. We can just
talk about the Simpsons and have a good time and you go into the ship
posting groups nowt it's just so much angst, just straight away from why what
they'll created for in the first place. That's exactly why I don't. I
don't see the point like I'm trying to make people laugh. I'm not trying
to push, you know, my own agenda. What's the like do that
somewhere else, man, go to an actual page that's dedicated that might share
your views. But when it comes to Simpsons, man, keep it just
freaking low key, funny, relatable. You know, I applaud people who
give it a crack. I couldn't care less, you know, if it's
low quality or you know, they it's my cup of tea as long as
they're giving it a crack man, because I know my memes aren't a cup
of tea for everyone. Sometimes, you know, the worst they look,
the better. It adds to the charm of it as well. It does.
It's like some like again I don't want to name names, but there's
one guy in particular who you know, I think that's his kind of his
niches. There's really kind of like badly crop but in a way that's like
it makes it so much better. I love it like crack because he knows
it. It's not like he's just like taking the piss out of himself.
And I just think it's hilarious because it's just like he's not taking it too
seriously for me. I guess maybe because I had the art background, I
could maybe you know, know my way around, you know the art side
of things, and you know, even shadows and crop in and you know
that type of thing which helps you know if you want to do a bit
of a better quality as far as how you present it to sell, the
kind of idea, you know, and some stuff like you know, if
you do it kind of seamless enough, people shouldn't actually know that you've put
much effort into it. So for example, like I could use a Star
Wars scene and I find a storm trooper, but he's in the wrong pose,
and I need it to be a certain pose, like maybe doing the
mo for one one funk, you know, dance. But if you crop
it in a way to make it look seamless, they might just think,
oh, he might have found that just on the net. But sometimes it
takes it can take a fair bit of work. As I said about,
it really depends on the style. But it's kind of a thing as well
where sometimes you think a memes a bit man, but you're like, ah,
it's it's harmless enough whatever, and you put out there and it just
explodes. Oh yeah, like there was that one we put up. I
love the nostalgia ones the most. I think nostalge ones that me and you
did, one that put up about a month ago. I reckon where it
was the CDs in the sleeves in the car style at the time that went
mental it did. I've seen that reshare quite a bit and again yeah,
like I've seen it on lots of different pages. But it's cool because I've
similar to what you said, man, it's relatable. I've made some of
those ones, like I've done one where you know, what was it?
Oh, that's right, so Grandpa Simpson, you know there's one where he's
seen So I pretended I was smoking a cigarette when it was cold outside,
which is the style of the time, so you know as a kid it
was cold and you blew out the air and those types of ones have you
know, done really well. I've found ones where the crossover ones have done
well, like I did this terminator one is dead or something yeah, yeah,
one of those ones. But I also did the one where again at
the time I thought it was funny, but I didn't realize it go the
way it went was Sarah Connor's holding the fence and Homer's pouring milk in cereal,
and then the next scene it's just that bloody nuclear wave and people just
lost that shit. And and then as I kind of look back and I
was like, it's pretty good. Like and there's times where I think I've
actually got a home run and it doesn't get much traction. You just look.
I think, for me, like the one thing I can say I
feel like, you know, happy about is I think at least overall,
I've got a decent strike rate. Like you know, as I said,
man, I'm not sitting here with any kind of cockiness thinking yep, yep,
I'm this, I'm that. Everything I do. I know I've made
some absolute fucking stinkers. I know some have been terrible. I know some
have been it's just but that's with anyone, man. But you have people
who like go out of their way to wait for you to do that one.
Yes, he's means of shit. Yep, they suck. I find
that you don't really follow the trends, do you, because you know it's
always there's a trend in the groups, and everyone just does the same fucking
thing over and over again. I find yours are sounds like where did that
come from? That's it? So I don't I have started a few without
meaning to, like I might, I've started that's Sarah Connor one. After
I made that one, I noticed for weeks there was that nuclear blast scene
used over and over and it's happened dozens of times over the years. But
nah, I don't tend to ever follow. I think for me, what
I might do is, for example, I'll be flicking through my Instagram just
looking at some of my older memes, and I don't know, something would
just pop up, like I'll see, you know, a purple drapes me
and I'm like, I haven't done purple drapes in a while. And then
you've got the way my process works. I don't know, everyone's different.
Is I've got to say I feel like, yeah, purple drapes would be
a good one right now. Then I'll go through some of the other templates
I've used and see whether there's anything that connects the dots. If it feels
forced, I'll leave it if it doesn't make sense. But someday and you'll
come up with an idea. Sometimes you're like, how the hell have I
not thought of that before? And then I'll do my little search in the
groups to see if anyone else has done it, just to make sure that
doesn't you know, And sometimes you can't find everything. Worse person, Oh
oh god, apparently yeah, you know, And that was always funny,
like I used to have. I used to see. You know, a
lot of people make memes I've made before, a lot, right, And
that's fine. They're not following me. They don't know every group I'm in.
I don't give a shit, you know. But the minute if I
ever did a Harrison on someone else's meme, I stole it. I copied
them. I'm like, oh my god, so you think that I found
someone else's meme that was posted in this group. I remade it, spent
the time posted in the very same group, and fingers crossed, no one
else noticed. Why would someone do that? That makes no You should have
stay on Instagram. You should just avoid Facebook like the plague and to stay
in Instagram. So kind of to answer that man. I find that bought
posting. Even though I'm not an adamin anymore. They're really good with how
they generally run the page as far as key been at friendly no bullshit,
no bullying. You know, if you report something, they'll put someone in
line. So that is the only group. Even though I'm an admin on
rock Bottom, I haven't posted there in many, many months, purely because
of the same reason another admin left. It's just become just too political hate
field. That's where we tried to always be. I was actually mentioned on
a recent podcast. I know, mat I have nothing against rock Bottom,
but I always saw like us as like black and white in the sense that
everything that we wouldn't post would be on that page, you know what I
mean, Like we would never do anything political. We didn't do the Tobias
meanings of dropping the sea bomb and things like that. Look, we tried
to be like the family friendly one because we're such We're so associated with the
actual show and people who work on the show, and like Disney run sponsorships
throughout podcasts and things like that, Like we need to sort of be the
family friendly Simpsons community. Yeah, and good and rightly so bad and look
don't get me wrong. Like, you know, I've been an admin for
rock Bottom for like seven years and I've got you know, I'm very I'm
good mates with you know, Matt, who you know runs the page.
Of course, he's the one who asked me back in twenty sixteen to help
be an admin, and I've been one since. But the reason I'm saying
I don't post as much as it's not against it's just I just kind of
I'm happy to do the admin staff keep an eye on things. But when
it lost, you know, some of the heart of what Simpson's memes was
about, it just was so I left, you know, compu Global because
again the hate in that group and no one was man in it. No
one was I wasn't an admin, so I would report something and people were
just letting it go, which made me think that some of the other admins
didn't like me. And I used to sit there going, man, like,
I've literally had no interaction with you. I've never said a bad thing
to you, but because of my memes, you hate me, Like that's
insane. Like I used to still think like, but again I had this.
Even my wife's like, just don't even overthink it. Just think of
it as it's not your issue. You you've done nothing to start a rise,
You've never been arrogant being like yep, I'm number one my memes.
I've never seen anything even remotely close to that. I've never put anyone down,
So what does it come down to. It's someone else's issue that they
can just deal with. And instead of me reacting the way I used to
do and sometimes getting worked up, especially if it's like the fifth person on
the day, just to come out with some stupid bullshit for for absolutely no
reason, and they making it personal, and it's just like yeah, and
that's why I started blocking people. I was like, man, how fun
is it blocking somebody though, like someone on one of their posts and just
like ban and delete? What look it is? It is? It's a
it's actually a nice feeling when you're arguing with someone and you're like, Okay,
not this is back then, not any mightn't really I don't do it
really anymore ever, But and you write something and I know I could be
a smart ass back because I'm not really wanted to take shit. Like as
much as I would never instigate it, I would still stand up for myself
and the best feeling was writing something back and knowing that they're in the process
of typing and block and then blocking them so when they actually hit posts,
so like this page no longer exists and they can just stew on that for
a while. But you definitely you gold home with the jewels at that point,
aren't you. Yeah, that's it. Just laugh Yeah, absolutely,
man. So yeah, So look, it's funny because I do wonder,
like sometimes people must think, you know, they must wonder like, you
know, I've had a lot of you know, the people who do love
my stuff, so like, how do you feel about all that stuff?
And I'm like, look, man, again, you know, I know,
I know it's there. I'm very well aware. It doesn't really bother
me anymore because I just kind of just do my own things, stay in
my own lane. And that's why I only post in one Facebook group,
I run my Instagram. How long will I do this, man, I
don't know, but for now I still enjoy it because my wife remember even
when we first met, Hell, you've been married for I've been married.
We've been with her for eight years and we'd be married for five years.
Were made for a decade. Awesome congrats. That's awesome. Man. So
I think when we first met so twenty fifteen, she used to, you
know, see me at the end of the night and she's like, do
you feel like kind of like obligated to do this? Like do you feel
like a pressure? And I said, no, no, absolutely not.
I said. The minute that I feel obligated and forced to come up with
ideas is the day I know I'm just gonna not do it anymore. But
look like, you know, who doesn't love you know, making something that
people will have a laugh at, and like, I mean, it is
a bit of a you know, a bit of an adrenaline kind of you
know shot, a bit of a serotonin hit, dopamine hit. You know,
it's a good feeling. And I think, you know, when you
can be creative and people relate to it and find it funny, that's awesome.
I think that's why I keep doing it too, is you know,
it's nice to it, you know, for one split second of someone's day,
just like make them have a bit of a laugh, for a chuck,
or just make them, you know, put a grin to someone's face.
Man, It's it's as soppy or cliche as that sounds. Why else
would you do it? For man, Like it's you've got a group of
people who love the show. You're relating it to stuff that might you know,
might be appealing on nostalgic. If you can put a bit of humor
and a bit of that spin on it, I think that's like awesome.
And when you start, like, you know, because like if you go
through, for example, I've got like a favorites folder on my phone and
it's just like all saved PNGs, everything you could imagine, you know,
from the Simpsons, from video games. So it helps when you know you've
you know, you've kind of got like your little tool kit of what to
do. But you know, it's uh yeah, man, it's it's instill
enjoyable. And for now, I keep you know, look, I used
to at one point, I don't do it anymore. Was probably making sometimes
even two or three a day. I can't do that anymore. No,
listen, LEAs you're making money from doing it unless you're getting paid to Yeah,
correct, that's this is pre kids. But since kids, you know,
I'll generally do one to day, not always now, like there might
be a day or two that you know, but I've got so much backlog
of material that, let's say I haven't made a meme that day, I
could quickly flick back to twenty twenty twenty nineteen, twenty twenty one, sure,
and find one to put on Instagram and just be like, yeah,
cool. You know how many have you gotten your backlog as in unposted,
never be posted posted? Yeah? Hundreds, really hundreds hundreds, So you
can just take a gap year. I could if I wanted to, Like,
you know, and there's some that you know I've posted, but I
posted so long ago that people i'd say ninety nine point nine percent would not
have recall it, like if I may. I've had some that did exceptionally
well in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. I'll give it five years. If
it's more than five years, it's free range to go again, I reckon.
Yeah, look, I've remade a few. I remember making one using
the scene where it was Marge as a child on the bus and there's the
girl you like the monkeys? That scene, I've used that template, and
it was one where I think it was that's right. It was charmers with
a little lunch box and then girls like ooh, you like principal skinner,
you know, he never had Aurora borealis in his kitchen, and he goes
he did, so he doesn't even steam. He doesn't even steam his own
hands. And then it's like he's just the screen yea. And people freaking
love that one. So I remade it because it looks so bootleg, the
old version of the old font. And one person goes, I know this
from somewhere. Have you made is this yours? And I'm like, yeah,
it's mine. I go I remade it for about five years old,
and they're like, I remember, but yeah, I just you know,
but that literally there was one person out of the hundreds of comments. But
it was just a bit of fun to remake it. Give it a give
it a bit of a nice new polish. But yeah, was he still
having fun doing it. That's all. That's like with the podcast. I
said to my wife, like, I took a pun to myself last year
last August, I was like, I'm doing an office job. I'm not
enjoying this. I don't feel like I'm being you know, looked after and
appreciated. Fuck it, I own as much doing my podcast from like patrons
and things like that is what I do with this job. I'm just going
to quit my job, my wife and then go back to work full time.
Because she was climbing the wall. She wanted to get out of the
house. She had four years off of the kids, and it's just wor
there for the better man. And but I said to her, like,
the second this feels like work, I probably don't want to do it anymore.
But then again, getting paid to talk about the Simpsons is pretty fun.
Like, I know how fucking lucky I am. You know, I
was gonna say, dude, look, I'll be I'll be the first.
I'm envious man, because what you do and I know how successful you guys
are is fucking amazing. I tried my you know, I tried a few
years back at Patreon, right. I gave it a shot. And again,
it's not about trying to monitor. Look, man, if why the
hell wouldn't you try if you could try and monetize something that you enjoy.
It wasn't me, you know, I never got into it for that reason.
But as the whole fifty dollars bullshit thing was that I was actually getting
paid at a period, and quite a good amount at that stage to make
memes, and then I realized, like, you can't really do it with
the Simpsons as far as memes, because why would someone. Yeah, I
had a few patrons, of course, but nothing substantial. And I get
it because I look back at I'm thinking, well, once you make the
meme, it's kind of there. What more can you do with it?
You laugh at it for two seconds, you might share it with a few
mates, right, there's no other value. So what's someone get a gain
by being a patreon when they get to see your means on your Instagram or
on Facebook. So for you, what you do and how many Patreons you've
got is insane, man, Because I've had so many people like say,
oh, you know, dude, surely you're getting paid for this. I'm
like, nah, man, I'm not. I've never been paid or an
actual Simpsons meme on its own, because at the end of the day,
I am using a copyrighted intellectual property that I tried a T shirt or too.
I got them taken down straight away. So I just thought, look,
I do it because I enjoy it, but I like to get paid
for it. Absolutely, it'd be amazing. It's like you, man,
you get to talk about Simpsons and get that. Like for me, that
would be the dream, Like I would love that. But like you know,
as I said, my job, I come from a psychology, social
work, counseling background. I got. My job has got nothing to do
with my artistic side, which in some ways kind of is a bit depressing
because I kind of look back and think maybe I should have pursued that more.
And just seeing like how much success I've had with the memes as far
as at least growing an audience and people enjoying it, that's been cool.
But the fact that you can, you know, do a podcast, and
I've thought about other avenues, like, you know, do I start a
YouTube channel? I know I can do a lot of different voices. I've
actually had an idea for a channel which I know has been done to an
extent where you basically have a movie scene and you overdub it with a different
voice and you try and replicate what their mouth is saying to actually, you
know, whatever it comes out with. It could be nonsensical, it could
be Yeah. So there's one channel in particular that do it bad lip reading
and this guy is a bloody music producer man. He does this as a
side gig. He's got like thirteen million subscribers. He's making a killing that
Yoda one he did that exploded. Yeah, and I've done one. I
haven't put it out. You're one of the first people to know this.
I've made one for Jurassic Park. I've overdubbed all the voices. It only
goes for about three or four minutes. But I started like, oh,
you know, there was so much work that went into it beyond what I
thought. And I was like, oh, do I go down this path?
But try it? Why not? Look, I might, you know,
I've got to. I've literally got to just do a few things to
tweak it. My brother's the one who's been really good at helping me out
with like the kind of tech side. I wish it was just like in
terms of the scripting of watching the movie that the scene, getting the script
down, doing the actual recording, that's the easy part. It's the kind
of mixing editing part that was like the pain and the ass and got to
be careful with songs that you can't use and all that, you know,
copyright strike crap. But hey man, i'd love to, you know,
I'd love to quit a day job. To be able to do something like
that, but who knows. Man, Like, one day maybe an idea
would just come to me. But one day we're just likecky that we won
the first Simpsons podcasts because when we did it, there was only one other
one the people we were the second Simpsons podcast. Now it feels like there's
two hundred. I bet, I bet it's saturated now. But we just
we just got in there early, you know, built that fan base up,
and just we've got The thing is, people start a Simpsons podcast now,
a lot of them did it over covid. They got boreds, like,
what can we do? There's Simpsons. You know, there's like one
hundred new ones started over covid. But it's like we already had like twelve
thirteen seasons of the show reviewed in our library before these ones even started.
So we've already got that back cat looks. When people find us, they're
like, shit, there's five hundred hours of reviews here for us to listen
to. I'm just gonna go to this. There's someone who's just yeah,
absolutely, man, that's crazy, like and you know that's I remember reading
something. I think you made a post at one point saying that, yeah,
you'd chucked in the job and you're doing this. Yeah it's on that
page. Yeah, I'm just like, fuck it, I'm quitting probably where
I saw it. Yeah, and I put the shot of home of burning
the bridge. Mate live in the dream. Many live in the dream,
like as in, there's not many people who can legitimately say they love what
they do. Like as I said, let's say if someone turned around and
said, Andy, I will match your current salary to just keep doing what
you're doing and the memes, but do it for us who like, say
know, you'd say you wouldn't say, you'd say yes and a heartbeat.
I was just lucky to be in a position where my wife would go back
to work and get paid enough to sort of balance it out. And then
it just because I was doing it full time, I could put more content
out, which means we've got more followers, and it just ended up being
like the best thing ever. But man, it was scary at the time
though. I was like, you know what, I'd rather I'd rather try
this for two three years, fail at it, then go oh, I
mean I wish I had a tried I think for you as well. Man,
the beauty of it is that you could have initially started it whilst maintaining
your job. We did. I was doing it for seven years. Yea.
Yeah, and as you start to see things kind of pick up,
you can make that decisive decision like, hey, I don't think I need
the job anymore. It might still be a little bit of a risk at
the time, but I'm sure you get to a point and then it's just
and then you like look back and go, hey man, this is this
is freaking awesome. I was very, very lucky. Yeah. So I'm
getting to wind up my wife's we've been wrapped this up very soon. I
think the kids. I think the kids have been a bit of a struggle
of bedtime. So I won't keep it. I won't keep you, man.
But I've got a question for you though. I've just send it to
you about this this marathon. What I'd like to do I'd like to ask
people. So it's nineteen ninety eight, So we've got the first nine seasons
out right Channel ten. They've come to you, Andy, we need a
five episodes Simpsons marathons for Friday Night. What episodes be picking? So this
is this look given when you ask me the question earlier. I've had a
bit of a think, so this could be interchangeable, but I've actually jotted
some down, so I guess whether you want to call this an episode or
not. But the twenty two short films about that's my favorite episode of all
time. I always say that perfectly encapsulates everything about Springfield. It's just for
me, those little bite sized stories. Yeah, and even from a meme
perspective, how memorable that episode is next level? So absolutely that. Okay,
so the City of New York and Homer, that one resonates with me.
I do enjoy. There's a certain parts and that this I even just
the very last scene of when Lisa is like can we come back? And
and this shits copping in. It's just something that you also just you remember
watching at the time as well. They always had that connection as well.
Yeah. So another one would be Treehouse of Horror five. Five is always
the favorite, isn't it? Look it is? But for me, like
there's it's justly you know, rational, like I can rationalize why without you
know, having much disagreement. I'd say, just you know that that episode
as far as me wise, as well, for me, one that I
you know, I've always loved I love Homer Goes to College. I absolutely
love that episode and some like I guess special mentions as well, like Brother
from the Same Planet, Homer bad Man, Marge being not Proud. I
think that there's everyone ending besides the Maggie makes three ending that's going to make
me cry. It's Marge be not Proud. Yeah, that for me just
hits different notes as far as humor, and you know, it's just yeah,
it's so. I mean that list could, I'm sure for yourself,
could be interchangeable on any given day, but just off the top of my
head, those were, you know, some that I'd be like, yep,
you know, there's there's there's some sentimental stuff in there, there's some
absolutely hilarious and kind of like you said with the twenty two short films,
like everything in between. So I think that kind of captures and I think
that that pretty much has an episode from I think season four, six,
nine seven. So it come with the good ones. Yeah, pretty good
mix. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there we go. All right,
Andy Kate, thank you so much for joining us here. It's been a
pleasure to finally catch up with you. Yeah, man, thank you so
much for having me Like, it's good, it's good just to you know,
have a chat. Kind of Well, it's good because I've just started
this second because we did two podcasts a week. Now we do the reviews
and it's like season eighteen. I'm like, yeah, people aren't as interested
in reviews anymore. And the reason I started this show was to just chat
with people about the Simpsons. And like I've seen like I've seen your name
and I've shared your memes for seventy years. I'm like, fuck, just
talk to the guy. I appreciate it, man, Like I you know,
I you know, I'm always I think I'm a very you know,
pretty chilled guy man who's always happy to chat. And anyone who actually knows
me knows that. Like, man, I'm not anyone who's ever started you
know, shit, I'm not that kind of guy. I've copped a lot
of shit. But man, I think, as as I said, it's
just kind of sometimes is the nature of having maybe memes that are popular.
I guess, like, you know, you can't please everyone. Some people
will just get pissed off, and some people will like the hate. But
as I said, man, at the end of the day, the positive
stuff has always outweighed the negative and for that reason alone. Man, you
know, I love doing what I do. It's it's just a fun hobby
on the side, man. And I actually was. I actually remember when
you reached out. I was like thinking to myself. I remember at one
point a year or two ago, thinking, man, I'd love to even
reach out to you guys and be like, hey, would you want to
have a chat? One day I was like, nah, no, I
can't ask them that that's something that they've but it's been a pleasure, man.
I appreciate the offer. And it's good to meet you man and have
a good chat. And let's plug that Instagram page one more time before you
go. I have Simpsons meme factory. Yep. I probably, in hindsight
should have got a bit more creative name. But change the name? Was
it is that too late? Now? You keep it? I reckon I
can. I'm pretty sure I could change it, but I think I do
think it fits though, right Simpsons mean factory. Well, look, I
mean I make them enough to feel like it's a factory. You know that
it's it's you know. And I wasn't sure at the time whether certain names
would be like, you know, a strike because you use them, But
nah, I lostarted looking at other pages and the hundreds have used the Simpsons
like I literally didn't give it much thought and I just thought, I make
so many bloody damn memes, I might as well just put them on my
Instagram. And yeah, it's kind of just you know what's growing to like
nearly seventy thousand followers now just about yes, it's going really well. Make
sure guys that you follow that page for your Simpsons meme Shenanigan's Yeah, once
again, it's been an absolute pleasure and all the best with your Symptons Meme
Factory. Thanks brother, I'm sure you'll see some more bangers coming up.
