<v Speaker 1>He'll be like a dummy beer. It's the Internet. You're busy.
<v Speaker 1>Let's do this for August eighth, twenty twenty four. For
<v Speaker 1>the next hour or so, let me help you sort
<v Speaker 1>through the world of gaming on Game This Morning's Live
<v Speaker 1>with me Jeff Grubb. Today Facebook's Facebook is shut down
<v Speaker 1>in excellent studio and the Borderlinds movie is apparently a
<v Speaker 1>train wreck. But first, please join me and welcoming today's
<v Speaker 1>co host of Game Mess Mornings. It's Jason Finelli. Everybody, Jason,
<v Speaker 1>how are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>I am fantastic on a Thursday morning. Had a little
<v Speaker 2>bit of a tech snaffho there. I'm not sure what
<v Speaker 2>that was, but I'll have here. We're having fun. We're
<v Speaker 2>talking about game news, which hasn't been fun in the
<v Speaker 2>last week or so.
<v Speaker 1>So since like twenty twenty three.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, well fair, but specifically since Friday.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, they're rough.
<v Speaker 2>It's just it's rough to see. But hopefully we'll bring
<v Speaker 2>some levity to it, make some people laugh as we
<v Speaker 2>talk about the news, and you know, just try and
<v Speaker 2>bring a little ring a sunshine into this cloudy day,
<v Speaker 2>which literally in my case, I don't know about you
<v Speaker 2>and Cleveland.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah for this overcast here, really hot but overcast. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's it's been that way for the last couple of days.
<v Speaker 1>But we're making do over here, and like you said,
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna make do with the game news that we
<v Speaker 1>are given and talk about on the show. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm recovering now fully from hanging out for SummerSlam. It
<v Speaker 1>was a good time. Do you get a chance to
<v Speaker 1>watch that? It was a pretty good show?
<v Speaker 2>I thought, yeah, yeah, I thought, I thought, I was.
<v Speaker 2>I want to I'm actually well. I was gonna talk
<v Speaker 2>about this at the end, but I did a local
<v Speaker 2>wrestling podcast that goes up later today called Straight Shooters
<v Speaker 2>of Course SummerSlam twenty twenty four Recap, and we all
<v Speaker 2>agreed that it was top to bottom like a very
<v Speaker 2>solidly booked, well done show. Like one of the questions
<v Speaker 2>in our format was what was the worst match of
<v Speaker 2>the night, And I picked mine based on match duration,
<v Speaker 2>not because of what happened in it, because it was
<v Speaker 2>too short. That to me is a sign of a
<v Speaker 2>good wrestling show. I was thoroughly sports entertained.
<v Speaker 1>And that's what you want. You want to be sports
<v Speaker 1>entertained when you're watching your sports entertainment. All right, the
<v Speaker 1>just jan let you know, the overlays seem broken. I
<v Speaker 1>think I'm using the right one. I'll get that up
<v Speaker 1>here in a little bit. Lots of technical issues here today,
<v Speaker 1>Jason Finelli, I'm I don't care anymore. Whatever. I Hey,
<v Speaker 1>I beat that Katana, I'm free. I am over here,
<v Speaker 1>footloose and even fancy freeze how I would describe myself
<v Speaker 1>after beating that game exactly, I'm surviving and thriving.
<v Speaker 2>You're out of the Romero guleg huh uh.
<v Speaker 1>Huh, yeah, you get done and a little bit of
<v Speaker 1>the Stockholm syndrome saying Sam, We're like, man, I'll go
<v Speaker 1>back and see, like what if I turned off this
<v Speaker 1>or what if I messed around with these settings? And
<v Speaker 1>and also Mike, Yeah, I don't know. I just like
<v Speaker 1>John Romero a lot, and that game is real bad,
<v Speaker 1>it really is. But there's just still something about that
<v Speaker 1>that time, that era of those people making those kinds
<v Speaker 1>of games and kind of things just getting out of hand.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad that I've played Daikatana, and I'm also happy
<v Speaker 1>that the games bullshit just did not cease, even up
<v Speaker 1>to the very last moment. You know, I guess I'll
<v Speaker 1>try out to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen it
<v Speaker 1>too much. But when I went from the second to
<v Speaker 1>lost last boss fight, had a really long un cut
<v Speaker 1>scene and then something immediately happened at the beginning and immediately,
<v Speaker 1>I mean the second the final boss fight started and
<v Speaker 1>I had to do it all over again. That was
<v Speaker 1>that was real special. So you want to see that
<v Speaker 1>for yourself and how that breaks check man? Absolutely? All right,
<v Speaker 1>we should explain what we do here most weekdays, I
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grub, will help piece your gaming life back together.
<v Speaker 1>That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our
<v Speaker 1>own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the
<v Speaker 1>input of bona fide expert who will make me look smart.
<v Speaker 1>If you are watching live on twitch welcome. You can
<v Speaker 1>always listen to the show later on podcast feeds by
<v Speaker 1>searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find the RSS on
<v Speaker 1>gimebomb dot com. You can also catch the show later
<v Speaker 1>with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right,
<v Speaker 1>we have a lot to get into, so let's start
<v Speaker 1>the Morning Mess with Meta is shutting down ready at dawn.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Jordan Midler at VGC Meta, which you
<v Speaker 1>probably Better Know is. Facebook has confirmed that it's closing
<v Speaker 1>first party development studio Ready at Dawn. The California, US
<v Speaker 1>based studio, which was founded in two thousand and three
<v Speaker 1>and acquired by Meta in twenty ten, previously suffered layoffs
<v Speaker 1>last year. Speaking to Android Central, a Meta spokesperson told
<v Speaker 1>the publication that the cuts were made to ensure that
<v Speaker 1>the Reality Labs project stays within budget and that Oculus
<v Speaker 1>Studios can make a better long term impact in VR development.
<v Speaker 1>While it had already shifted its focus to VR development
<v Speaker 1>several years before being acquired by Meta, Ridi a don
<v Speaker 1>cut its teeth developing for PlayStation platforms. Its credits include
<v Speaker 1>Let's See Here, Daxter, God of War, Chains of Olympus,
<v Speaker 1>and God of War, Ghosts of Sparta, a lot of
<v Speaker 1>the handheld conversions or handheld of takes on popular PlayStation franchises,
<v Speaker 1>and some of the better one of those. There was
<v Speaker 1>a lot of that kind of stuff, and people tended
<v Speaker 1>to like Ready at Dawn's games quite a bit. Since then,
<v Speaker 1>it has developed well received VR games, including Loan Echo
<v Speaker 1>and Loan Echo Too. I enjoyed what I've played of
<v Speaker 1>Loan Echo, a very cool game where you sort of
<v Speaker 1>I think you're in zero G and you move yourself
<v Speaker 1>around a spaceship and stuff like that, And then they
<v Speaker 1>had a leg A Loan Echo multiplayer game, which was
<v Speaker 1>also pretty cool. Meta said that Ready at Dawn employees
<v Speaker 1>were being encouraged to apply elsewhere within Oculus Studios and
<v Speaker 1>that it wants to hold on to as many developers
<v Speaker 1>as possible. But they always say that, yeah, they do
<v Speaker 1>always say that. This is a real shame because Ready
<v Speaker 1>at Dawn is a studio that I've always liked. I've
<v Speaker 1>really liked all their stuff, even their VR stuff was
<v Speaker 1>something that like I would actually pay attention to. I
<v Speaker 1>like the Order eighteen eighty six, right, was that them?
<v Speaker 2>Yes?
<v Speaker 1>I really liked that game more than most people. So
<v Speaker 1>this really stinks. I wish this studio was able to
<v Speaker 1>keep going. But that's just where we're at. Where these
<v Speaker 1>studios that kind of get swallowed up for one reason
<v Speaker 1>and then these companies have a strategic failure or failure
<v Speaker 1>or change of heart, it very quickly can end up
<v Speaker 1>in a situation like this, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. My first thought was maybe the problem wasn't Ready
<v Speaker 2>at Dawn. Maybe the problem was the Reality Labs project.
<v Speaker 2>They're something to keep profitable. Maybe something's wrong there and
<v Speaker 2>you should work there instead. But I digress. Yes, another
<v Speaker 2>name from the early to mid two thousands set by
<v Speaker 2>the wayside, not for any fault of their own. The
<v Speaker 2>games obviously were quality. Admittedly, I am a late adopter
<v Speaker 2>or a late bloomer, whatever you want to call it,
<v Speaker 2>as far as VR is concerned. I don't own a
<v Speaker 2>Meta Quest yet I had a PSVR, I don't have
<v Speaker 2>a PSVR two. Some sort of behind the curve in
<v Speaker 2>that regard. But you are not the only person to
<v Speaker 2>say that lown Echo was good. I had heard that
<v Speaker 2>a lot even before Ready at Doe had shuddered, and
<v Speaker 2>I too enjoyed the order A to eighty six. A
<v Speaker 2>lot of people wrote that off as just a all style,
<v Speaker 2>no substance, very pretty game, but not a whole lot
<v Speaker 2>going on. But it's one of those games where you
<v Speaker 2>just sit down, you forget where you are for a
<v Speaker 2>couple hours, and you play, and you watch a story
<v Speaker 2>and you're entertained. I'm not looking for, you know, a
<v Speaker 2>ten out of ten triple A experience in every game
<v Speaker 2>I play, and that was one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
<v Speaker 2>That it's like a double A made by a Triple
<v Speaker 2>A developer, if that makes sense. It didn't set the
<v Speaker 2>world on fire, but I still think it Finally, and
<v Speaker 2>I it's another group of people who are being cast
<v Speaker 2>out for no fault of their own, who now have
<v Speaker 2>to find a job. Ever, dwindling a number of jobs
<v Speaker 2>in this industry, just another We're gonna lose more good
<v Speaker 2>people again. They're gonna go elsewhere. And the only people
<v Speaker 2>we have to thank for that or corporate assholes they
<v Speaker 2>put it. Really they all they want is line. I'm
<v Speaker 2>getting so tired of it, yep, Jeff, And I'm trying.
<v Speaker 2>I know. I don't know if we try to keep
<v Speaker 2>this PG or not, but it's getting fucking tiring, it
<v Speaker 2>really is. These are good people. All they wanted to
<v Speaker 2>do was make video games. That's all they probably what
<v Speaker 2>they wanted to do is kids, and they finally get there,
<v Speaker 2>they finally get the studio they want. They're making the
<v Speaker 2>creative games that they want, and people that they never
<v Speaker 2>even probably spoke to, let alone met and actually worked
<v Speaker 2>with are treating them as numbers on a grid on
<v Speaker 2>a sheet. And it's disgusting. I hate it. It is
<v Speaker 2>so tough to be a fan a journalist in gaming
<v Speaker 2>is one thing. It's so tough to be a fan
<v Speaker 2>right now because like I have my aunt and my
<v Speaker 2>aunt who's a form of lawyer former we used to
<v Speaker 2>work for the government, follows the financials but doesn't really
<v Speaker 2>follow like gaming specifically asked me out of the blue,
<v Speaker 2>what the hell is going on in your industry? And
<v Speaker 2>when she sees something's up, someone who is so so
<v Speaker 2>far detached for video games, like, it's hard to describe.
<v Speaker 2>Then you know, there's a there's a Canaria in a
<v Speaker 2>coal mine, right and I people are saying survive until
<v Speaker 2>twenty twenty five. But is it going to stop in
<v Speaker 2>twenty twenty five or is that just what they're saying
<v Speaker 2>to so that we don't, you know, torch and pitch
<v Speaker 2>fork them. Now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, It's it's scary because it's like, I think, what
<v Speaker 1>that's what people are saying, and I think the people
<v Speaker 1>that are are sort of paying attention of what they're
<v Speaker 1>What they mean by that is that the expectation is
<v Speaker 1>interest rates will go back down and then money will
<v Speaker 1>be cheap again, and then we can start them. We
<v Speaker 1>could start this fucking clown factory back up all over
<v Speaker 1>once again and start making big bets that don't have
<v Speaker 1>any basis in strong foundations or reality and the and
<v Speaker 1>something goes wrong once again, and we're right back here
<v Speaker 1>in a couple of years, and honestly, this time, who
<v Speaker 1>knows how long it could be six months, we could
<v Speaker 1>be back here after interest rates drop and things seem
<v Speaker 1>like they're back because it seems volatile out there, and
<v Speaker 1>you know it's it's it's Facebook too. It's like they
<v Speaker 1>make a lot of money, and you know, he God,
<v Speaker 1>seems like Mark Zuckerbert spent a five hundred million dollars
<v Speaker 1>just like rehabilitating his image to be like a guy
<v Speaker 1>who wears a gold chain. Now, Like, I bet he's
<v Speaker 1>paid a lot of money to have someone tell him
<v Speaker 1>to do that. And in the meantime, people who make
<v Speaker 1>great games and doing that work are out on their ass.
<v Speaker 1>And the weird and frustrating thing and what's going to
<v Speaker 1>be a problem for this industry is every single senior developer.
<v Speaker 1>And this is not a site against the senior developers,
<v Speaker 1>but every single senior developer is going to be able
<v Speaker 1>to get a job instantly they're still so in demand,
<v Speaker 1>and then everyone beneath that will have a very hard
<v Speaker 1>time finding work because this industry is at a place where, like, listen,
<v Speaker 1>if you have if you've shipped games, if you've done this,
<v Speaker 1>and if you've done that, we could really use you.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, we're not going to give you a
<v Speaker 1>lot of room to move up, but we need people
<v Speaker 1>to fill in these very senior roles, and then they're
<v Speaker 1>afraid to hire anyone else beyond that. And so there's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be a lack of experience working on these big
<v Speaker 1>games at these big studios in the next couple of years.
<v Speaker 1>That is probably gonna hurt gaming in the long run.
<v Speaker 1>And it feels, it feels myopic, and of course it is.
<v Speaker 1>That's it always is. What do we what's the goal?
<v Speaker 1>You know, short term profits, short term returns. And they
<v Speaker 1>seemed like they were trying to make a long term
<v Speaker 1>bet with vr UP, but I think they know that
<v Speaker 1>it's like that we probably missed there. We weren't thinking
<v Speaker 1>that long term. We're not talking about twenty years or
<v Speaker 1>something like that. They wanted to see some return and
<v Speaker 1>they're just not. So here we are and ready to
<v Speaker 1>unpace the price. All right, let's not much else to
<v Speaker 1>say there, Let's move ahead here, Warner Brothers is looking
<v Speaker 1>at licensing its IP to other game studios. This is
<v Speaker 1>from Jeordian Miller at VGC, and this is a bit
<v Speaker 1>of a follow up to the renewed rumors that Warner
<v Speaker 1>Brothers is maybe looking to sell off their game studios
<v Speaker 1>yet again. Warner Brothers Discovery CEO David Zaslov, a brain genius,
<v Speaker 1>says he's looking into licensing. Yeah, just a winner out
<v Speaker 1>there says he's looking into licensing the company's IP to
<v Speaker 1>non Warner Brothers studios to produce games. Speaking as part
<v Speaker 1>of the company's financial results, Zaslov discussed why he thought
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty three's Hogwarts Legacy was such a success and
<v Speaker 1>how that could be the template for future Warner titles.
<v Speaker 1>One of the reasons that Hogwarts Legacy was so successful
<v Speaker 1>and the number of one game last year was that
<v Speaker 1>you went to Hogwarts Legacy and you entered the game
<v Speaker 1>and you were able to become part of that world,
<v Speaker 1>Zaslov said. And it's like, wow, you figured it out, buddy,
<v Speaker 1>that ultimately two plus two is four z Yeah. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>people want the game they've been they've been asking for
<v Speaker 1>for twenty years. Sure that ultimately I think is a
<v Speaker 1>big piece of where this industry is going. That will
<v Speaker 1>create a movie, whether it's Batman or Superman or Harry Potter,
<v Speaker 1>and maybe there will be a TV show, But the
<v Speaker 1>ability to go on go in the world and have
<v Speaker 1>that experience of spending time with all the characters something
<v Speaker 1>that we still own. We still we have eleven studios
<v Speaker 1>here and we have a lot of IP. And there's
<v Speaker 1>also a lot of interest among others in coming to
<v Speaker 1>take advantage of some of our some of our IP
<v Speaker 1>for gaming, which we're looking at. So yeah, I guess
<v Speaker 1>I never really thought about it in these terms too much.
<v Speaker 1>That that that Warner Brothers has mostly just kept their
<v Speaker 1>game development efforts in house and has worked with the
<v Speaker 1>studios that they own, and they haven't been seeking these
<v Speaker 1>these partnerships at the same time, and clearly, you know
<v Speaker 1>you can we see you know, Microsoft has a lot
<v Speaker 1>of IP and they have a ton of studios, and
<v Speaker 1>it takes them a long time to get games out.
<v Speaker 1>They get a couple of games, you know, five to
<v Speaker 1>ten games out a year for the thirty studios they have.
<v Speaker 1>And that's that's Microsoft with even more money than Warner Brothers,
<v Speaker 1>without all the financial problems that Warner Brothers has. Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And even even then, Microsoft still sometimes partners with outside
<v Speaker 1>studios pretty frequently actually, and and it looks like they're
<v Speaker 1>expanding that so and Nintendo does this as well. Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>has like internal IP that is massive, and they have
<v Speaker 1>a menagerie of studios external to them that they work with.
<v Speaker 1>A lot of them are so close and they have
<v Speaker 1>been working with them so long that they feel like
<v Speaker 1>in internal partners, but they're not. So the idea that
<v Speaker 1>Warner Brothers was not doing this already feels like a
<v Speaker 1>long overdue, like a correction for a problem that they
<v Speaker 1>shouldn't have had, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, definitely a broken clock situation here for Saslav where
<v Speaker 2>it actually makes a lot of sense. And as somebody
<v Speaker 2>mentioned in the chat, seems to work for Disney right now.
<v Speaker 2>What what the company they licensed to did with the
<v Speaker 2>IP is another thing, entirely Battlefront two. But they seem
<v Speaker 2>to have redeemed themselves because of Respawn, but that's another story.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, I.
<v Speaker 2>Would like to see Batman in the hands of a
<v Speaker 2>different studio. I would like to see DC comics in general,
<v Speaker 2>nothing against you know, rock Steady or nothing against the
<v Speaker 2>company the ones that they have. But Suicide s Claud
<v Speaker 2>was not good, right, it was not a good game.
<v Speaker 2>So if they can, if they can figure out something
<v Speaker 2>where they can make these franchises, this this war chest
<v Speaker 2>of franchises that they own profitable in the game space,
<v Speaker 2>they just have to you know, it's licensing fees instead
<v Speaker 2>of keeping all the development in house. Hey, why the
<v Speaker 2>hell not?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? I mean, god Vin Veraz in chat saying give
<v Speaker 1>Batman to Arcane. Yeah, I mean, like a Batman Beyond
<v Speaker 1>game from Arcane would be shit hot, that would be awesome.
<v Speaker 2>I think, yeah, yes, endorse that one hundred percent. And
<v Speaker 2>I'm trying to think. I don't know if I have
<v Speaker 2>time to look up all the franchises that Warner Brothers
<v Speaker 2>has right there, I'm basically just trying to think of
<v Speaker 2>multi versus and who's in that at the moment. But like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>Batman from Arcane, you want to give like Obsidian they
<v Speaker 2>have Game of Thrones, right, yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they would have Game of Thrones, right, they don't
<v Speaker 1>have a Song of Ice and Fire, but yeah they
<v Speaker 1>have Game of Thrones, which is the one that matters.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, TV portion of it, So you could you
<v Speaker 2>could find an RPG wester Mmo, west rosy Mmo and
<v Speaker 2>get a high profile developer do that. There is possibilities. Yep,
<v Speaker 2>there are definitely possibilities. So I don't hate the idea,
<v Speaker 2>which is the first time I think I've ever said
<v Speaker 2>it about this this particular seat. Man, I'm mad at
<v Speaker 2>CEOs today. You mentioned Zuckerberg day fixing his image and
<v Speaker 2>spending all that money to look better, and he still
<v Speaker 2>looks like one of those smiley faced sponges after you
<v Speaker 2>scrub a barbecue grill. But anyway, Uh, sorry that this
<v Speaker 2>makes me so mad, But yeah, I don't I don't
<v Speaker 2>hate this. I don't hate them licensing out stuff. It's
<v Speaker 2>working for Disney that it will certainly work for what
<v Speaker 2>Warner Brothers has. And yeah, why why the.
<v Speaker 1>Hell scrub Daddy? He really does look like a scrub
<v Speaker 1>daddy srub Daddy's. Oh my god, that's really good. The
<v Speaker 1>hair and everything.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, he's got it all.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's incredible. Yeah. The only thing here is like,
<v Speaker 1>why weren't you doing this already? This is it just
<v Speaker 1>feels so obvious, And I guess that's just they inherited
<v Speaker 1>a way of doing things. I suppose that was we
<v Speaker 1>do own a lot of studios. It is better to
<v Speaker 1>just have them work on that internally because then we
<v Speaker 1>own the whole chain. But hey, licensing fees are a
<v Speaker 1>real thing. And the way Disney does do it now
<v Speaker 1>is they take on. Listen, I know how it works
<v Speaker 1>across the board. So I'm gonna say this is the
<v Speaker 1>way Disney does it, and then I'll talk to John
<v Speaker 1>Drake or whatever, like you were wrong about that? Whatever,
<v Speaker 1>what does he know? But the way Disney, the way
<v Speaker 1>Disney occasionally does it with some projects is they will
<v Speaker 1>make deals with with studios, and those studios sometimes will
<v Speaker 1>give them upfront payment to license the IP or make
<v Speaker 1>a deal to pay on the back end. I really
<v Speaker 1>don't know how that works, but it is clear that
<v Speaker 1>the money is kind of going in Disney's direction. And
<v Speaker 1>then you're like, well, then Disney's got a fun the game, right,
<v Speaker 1>Well not in all those cases like that Star Wars
<v Speaker 1>Eclipse game, Disney's not paying a lot of money for that,
<v Speaker 1>is my understanding. The Knights of the Old Republic remake,
<v Speaker 1>Disney is not paying a lot of money for that.
<v Speaker 1>So this is the kind of thing where I think
<v Speaker 1>Warner Brothers is looking over that and be like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>we have IP that is nearly a strong and could
<v Speaker 1>be easily as strong in video games as what Disney has,
<v Speaker 1>So maybe we should be setting things up in a
<v Speaker 1>pretty similar way. And I wouldn't be too surprised. So
<v Speaker 1>that's kind of the way it goes down. Don't hate it,
<v Speaker 1>don't don't. Don't you call me John Drake. Uh? All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's keep going here. Oh man, I'm excited about this one.
<v Speaker 1>And I don't mean to like dance on any graves,
<v Speaker 1>but I like a bad movie. I like bad games.
<v Speaker 1>I do, and I have some of my favorite times
<v Speaker 1>watching movies is when I watch bad movies. And we
<v Speaker 1>got a new one, everybody, Uh, And I just completely
<v Speaker 1>got rid of my I slashed my hand down on
<v Speaker 1>the desk and excitement, and I hit my mouse and
<v Speaker 1>it closed the window and I went somewhere else. Let
<v Speaker 1>me see you here, let me get this back. I
<v Speaker 1>read it, Yeah, you read it? Why? All right, let's go.
<v Speaker 2>Here we go the Borderlands movie. Social reactions are out
<v Speaker 2>and it's not looking good. This comes from land Pits
<v Speaker 2>at GameStop game Spot. Excuse me, you did it? Oh no,
<v Speaker 2>I did it. You might not be aware, but Eli
<v Speaker 2>Roth directed a bull Lands movie based on the popular
<v Speaker 2>video game franchise, and it comes out this week. The
<v Speaker 2>official review in Bargo lives on August eighth. However, social
<v Speaker 2>impressions were free to run wild, and they are not
<v Speaker 2>the best. The film doesn't adapt any specific Borderlands story,
<v Speaker 2>but takes place in the world of Pandora and within
<v Speaker 2>the lure of the land. A major recognizable element is
<v Speaker 2>Jack Black as Claptrap, the game's robotic guide and your
<v Speaker 2>character sidekick. The main observation seems to be the comparison
<v Speaker 2>between that and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which of
<v Speaker 2>course was a reinvention of the team from the comics
<v Speaker 2>from at Shack Excellence. Borderlands is easily one of the
<v Speaker 2>worst movies of the year. Fans will be pissed off
<v Speaker 2>with how much they get the characters wrong, especially Tina
<v Speaker 2>Casual moviegoers will be unimpressed at how much it feels
<v Speaker 2>like a half baked Guardians of the Galaxy ripoff from
<v Speaker 2>es Con movies. The social media embargo has now lifted,
<v Speaker 2>and I can say that hashtag Borderlands movie has an
<v Speaker 2>exceptional level of detail. For those who have played the
<v Speaker 2>video games, but I don't know if that's enough to
<v Speaker 2>stop people from accusing it of being a gy a
<v Speaker 2>gootg rip off at Ed Gorteig, that's Ed Gordtek. Borderlands
<v Speaker 2>feels like what an out of touch executive thinks the
<v Speaker 2>cool kids find appealing. There is not a single earnest
<v Speaker 2>character moment here, just obnoxious quips that feel dated as
<v Speaker 2>soon as they leave the actor's mouth.
<v Speaker 1>It's going to be painful.
<v Speaker 2>It's not even so bad it's good, Just a complete mess,
<v Speaker 2>all pain s, s Matthew af Oh, hey, I can
<v Speaker 2>tell you I've seen hashtag Borderlands movie now and that
<v Speaker 2>it's really bad. I really wanted to like it, but
<v Speaker 2>an uninspired plot plus several phoned in performances, plus being
<v Speaker 2>stuck in a weird place where it looks both expensive
<v Speaker 2>and cheap at the same time makes it a huge misfire.
<v Speaker 2>Not everything was bleak for the would be tent pole
<v Speaker 2>end of Summer feature. There were some actual positive impressions.
<v Speaker 2>Fans praise Jack Black and Kate Blanchett's performances, and fans
<v Speaker 2>of the franchise will love the Easter eggs. And that's
<v Speaker 2>all you're getting positive for me. Last year's trind of
<v Speaker 2>successful video game adaptations might hit a few road bumps
<v Speaker 2>with the Borderlands film, but we'll see soon enough. This
<v Speaker 2>movie stars Kate Blanchet, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edul Ramirez,
<v Speaker 2>Ariana green Blatt, Florian Muntu, I Think Montanau, Gina Girshorn,
<v Speaker 2>and Jamie Lee Curtis and hits theaters on August ninth.
<v Speaker 2>That was nice, That felt nice.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you did a great job. Well done. Everybody good,
<v Speaker 1>get some, get some, Jason, Jason Fonelli, everybody please thank
<v Speaker 1>you for that? And boy am I excited? The idea
<v Speaker 1>episoddy looked both cheap and expensive at the same time,
<v Speaker 1>just like being able to look at a movie and
<v Speaker 1>be like where did it go wrong? Like where, like
<v Speaker 1>what happened here? I think it starts with a So
<v Speaker 1>I think someone mentioned in one of these things or
<v Speaker 1>someone mentioned online that this is Eli Roth and you
<v Speaker 1>don't give him an R rating, Like what does he
<v Speaker 1>have to work with? Like I don't think he's exactly
<v Speaker 1>a very talented director personally, but if you take away
<v Speaker 1>the R rating from Eli Roth, you kind of leave
<v Speaker 1>him nothing. So that seemed like a bad place to
<v Speaker 1>start from. Uh, And then everything after that just feels generic,
<v Speaker 1>and yeah, what.
<v Speaker 2>Did you have faith in this movie to begin with?
<v Speaker 1>No?
<v Speaker 2>No, no, not so I started announcing the kiss, I'm like,
<v Speaker 2>what are they gonna play this game? Or are they
<v Speaker 2>just gonna did someone play the first one and just
<v Speaker 2>try to adapt like things that might have happened in
<v Speaker 2>this world into this movie. That doesn't make any sense
<v Speaker 2>to me. Jack Black as Capture was the only thing
<v Speaker 2>that made sense. It was the only thing that ever
<v Speaker 2>made sense about all of it.
<v Speaker 1>Kate and Borderlands doesn't make sense to you. What are
<v Speaker 1>you saying? You're crazy?
<v Speaker 2>I'm saying she's better than Borderlands. I love Borderlands a lot,
<v Speaker 2>but I do like Borderlands. But she she's a that's
<v Speaker 2>below her pay Gray and she is no, no, she
<v Speaker 2>she can do better than that. Jamie Lee Curtis, I
<v Speaker 2>love Jamie Lee Curtis. Chat a couple of nuggets. Don't
<v Speaker 2>yell at me. Jamie Lee Curtis.
<v Speaker 1>She is great.
<v Speaker 2>She's a cops player, she's into games. I love that.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe she's a beacon in this movie too, But I
<v Speaker 2>has nothing to do with the actress and the actresses.
<v Speaker 2>It has everything to do with I was not confident
<v Speaker 2>in their adaptation, and I was right. So will I
<v Speaker 2>see this eventually on a streaming service when I'm drinking
<v Speaker 2>some gin and you know, just sit alone in my basement. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>probably I'll cringe and that'll be the end of it.
<v Speaker 2>I don't hate Hollywood actresses, Nail.
<v Speaker 1>I'm going after the movie theater Againeah, what's wrong with people?
<v Speaker 1>Get his ass? Chat? I think I'm going out to
<v Speaker 1>the theater this week and to see it so we
<v Speaker 1>could talk about it next week. Like that's that's what
<v Speaker 1>has happened now. Yeah, I mean on Rotten Tomatoes earlier
<v Speaker 1>today it did have a zero percent. It has a
<v Speaker 1>I think a three percent. Yes, it's a three percent.
<v Speaker 2>Now, my god.
<v Speaker 1>And I think that is from yep. That's one one
<v Speaker 1>positive review out of thirty. So there you go.
<v Speaker 2>Randy Pitchford, Yeah, Brandy pitch.
<v Speaker 1>And they're just like, and this is from Grace Randolphs like,
<v Speaker 1>it's just weird to see camp Kate Blanchet and movie
<v Speaker 1>like this, And I kind of like that. I think
<v Speaker 1>that's the way they like about it. So hey, all right,
<v Speaker 1>everyone else is basically kind of repeating what you said
<v Speaker 1>in those earlier quotes, which is it feels oh, most
<v Speaker 1>plagiaristic of Guardians in the Galaxy in some ways, so.
<v Speaker 2>Oh boy, put down on the back of the box.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, there it is. This movie is gonna flop, right.
<v Speaker 2>I hope so. But I think enough And I'm not
<v Speaker 2>saying that because I want any movie to flop. I'm
<v Speaker 2>saying that because I want to keep the trend of
<v Speaker 2>quality video game movies happening. And this is clearly setting
<v Speaker 2>us back to you know, what the hell was his name?
<v Speaker 2>You Wei bowld days. But I I think it depends
<v Speaker 2>on how fans of the game react. If you have
<v Speaker 2>people who are just will consume any Borderlands content that
<v Speaker 2>there is ever and give it the benefit of the
<v Speaker 2>doubt that if they come out, maybe it does well.
<v Speaker 2>I don't see that happening though. Maybe it has a
<v Speaker 2>couple a good opening day and then it just kind
<v Speaker 2>of tanks. I don't even know if it's gonna make budget.
<v Speaker 2>And I understand the budget was pretty high.
<v Speaker 1>It seems like it has a high budget. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>you do you have Kevin Hart, right, Kevin Hart's in it,
<v Speaker 1>and then Kate Blanchett. You gotta pay them a lot of.
<v Speaker 2>Fiasco Dan Fiasco in the chat one hundred and forty
<v Speaker 2>five million dollar budget predicted twelve to sixteen million gate.
<v Speaker 2>That's not good.
<v Speaker 1>Well okay, actually that's the kind of those are the
<v Speaker 1>kind of numbers that like, who like made this movie?
<v Speaker 1>Like how much money is is fucking gearbox on the
<v Speaker 1>line for I hope not much, because I don't want
<v Speaker 1>that studio to feel the repercussions of Randy Pichford wanting
<v Speaker 1>to meet Kevin Hart, which is what I feel like
<v Speaker 1>this has all been about the entire time. I just
<v Speaker 1>I'm just really want to do some close up magic
<v Speaker 1>the Kate Blanchett and then I'm gonna waste one hundred
<v Speaker 1>and fifty million dollars in the process. Here we are
<v Speaker 1>and that's like, honestly, that one hundred and forty million
<v Speaker 1>dollars for the budget this this I've seen a lot
<v Speaker 1>of commercial commercials for this thing. It probably has a
<v Speaker 1>huge marketing budget as well. It seems like a big
<v Speaker 1>old uh ohrom which is a shame from Randy. Yes, hey,
<v Speaker 1>I wish I personally, I'm fine with it being a
<v Speaker 1>bad movie because I, like I probably wasn't gonna love
<v Speaker 1>it no matter what, even it was like quote unquote good.
<v Speaker 1>But I want the people involved in making it to
<v Speaker 1>be proud of something and have something that they can
<v Speaker 1>be happy with, and that really stinks for them.
<v Speaker 2>So yep, that's fair.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, all right, let's take a quick break when we
<v Speaker 1>get back. Plenty more headlines to get into and including
<v Speaker 1>the Switch is closing in on that PS two sales number,
<v Speaker 1>at least in the United States. Right after this, bea
<v Speaker 1>that's the wrong that's the wrong button. All right, here
<v Speaker 1>we go, coming right back. All right, we're back into it. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>another botch of mania over here. Switch is very close
<v Speaker 1>to matching lifetime PS two sales in the United States.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Eddie McCoo at GameSpot. The Nintendo Switch
<v Speaker 1>is getting closer to matching the PlayStation two for lifetime
<v Speaker 1>sales in the United States. Matt Piscatella of the research
<v Speaker 1>firm Sircana reported that the switch is only one point
<v Speaker 1>one million units behind PS two for lifetime sales domestically. Globally,
<v Speaker 1>it's a bit of a different story. Nintendo recently reported
<v Speaker 1>that the switch sales through June thirtieth stood at one
<v Speaker 1>hundred and forty three point four two million units. The
<v Speaker 1>PS two is understood to be the best selling home
<v Speaker 1>console of all time, with about one hundred and fifty
<v Speaker 1>five million units sold, although Sony has recently claimed it's
<v Speaker 1>one hundred and sixty million, and that was Jim Ryan
<v Speaker 1>as he was leaving, maybe trying to fudge things a
<v Speaker 1>little bit. Nintato was forecasting to sell thirteen point five
<v Speaker 1>million Switch consoles during its current fiscal year that ends
<v Speaker 1>on March thirty first, twenty twenty five, with two point
<v Speaker 1>one million sold already this fiscal year in the first
<v Speaker 1>quarter of its fiscal year. It's a bit behind paced
<v Speaker 1>to do that number, but either way, it's like, god, yeah, man,
<v Speaker 1>it's it's going to surpass the PS two in the
<v Speaker 1>United States, maybe not, maybe not globally. We'll see. There
<v Speaker 1>is a chance that could still miss that, but that
<v Speaker 1>is such a different time and era and in the
<v Speaker 1>way people were consuming games where you know, the PS
<v Speaker 1>two lasted forever. Price cuts on hardware, remember those we
<v Speaker 1>used to get those PS two I do got down
<v Speaker 1>to like almost ninety nine dollars like late in its life,
<v Speaker 1>and I think.
<v Speaker 2>It might have been after the PS three came out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And it's like so in the end, that was
<v Speaker 1>before mobile smartphones that people were using to playing games
<v Speaker 1>of free games on instead, so they were like, well,
<v Speaker 1>I have a hunger to play games. This is cheap.
<v Speaker 1>I'll go get a PS two and I'll get FIFA
<v Speaker 1>and things like that. And that was a lot of
<v Speaker 1>the PS two PS two's later sales and switches just
<v Speaker 1>not having that same thing instead. It's like, nope, this
<v Speaker 1>is the active console. It's still three hundred dollars, three
<v Speaker 1>hundred and fifty dollars if you want the O lead.
<v Speaker 1>This is really impressive all things considered, right.
<v Speaker 2>I think it speaks to the way that they approached
<v Speaker 2>the software lineup this time around, and the fact that
<v Speaker 2>they're still putting out games in their Marquee franchises this late.
<v Speaker 2>We're getting a brand new Zelda game this year. I
<v Speaker 2>tend to forget that. Yeah, I forgot about the rest
<v Speaker 2>of the year, but there was a brand new Zelda game,
<v Speaker 2>which did wonders for when the same thing for the
<v Speaker 2>three DS and one thirteen yea with brand new ideas.
<v Speaker 2>You finally get to play as Zelda in a Zelda game.
<v Speaker 2>It should have been called the Legend of Link, but
<v Speaker 2>that's just me. But I think that strategy has paid
<v Speaker 2>off in the Switch being able to get these because
<v Speaker 2>you get close to these records, because you figure there
<v Speaker 2>may be people who got the Switch early, played Breath
<v Speaker 2>of the Wild whatever they wanted to play, and then
<v Speaker 2>maybe had to get rid of it for some reason,
<v Speaker 2>and then came back for Tears of the Kingdom and
<v Speaker 2>now are coming back again for Echoes of Wisdom because
<v Speaker 2>the switch light is included in this right, so they're
<v Speaker 2>not as expensive as getting the full TV experience. So
<v Speaker 2>if somebody just wants to pick up a switch light
<v Speaker 2>to play the one game if they want, and then
<v Speaker 2>flip it for something else, I know people that do
<v Speaker 2>that that they just get the consoles for the game
<v Speaker 2>they want and they sell it all or they trade
<v Speaker 2>it to itch that shall not be named, or what
<v Speaker 2>have you, and that's just how they do it. But
<v Speaker 2>that's a sale. Every single time. That's a sale for Nintendo.
<v Speaker 2>I think, yeah, I think i' I'm not surprised that
<v Speaker 2>the Switch is making It's it's almost like Nintendo coming
<v Speaker 2>back to claim it's crown a little bit from the
<v Speaker 2>NES right. The NES was the one that was super Nintendo.
<v Speaker 1>One of the two was like edging out the Genesis
<v Speaker 1>after a couple of years.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, so and the switch it was
<v Speaker 2>a genius move. It was maybe one of the best
<v Speaker 2>rebounds in if you look at the scope of video
<v Speaker 2>game hardware history from the WIU to the switch, that's absurd.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, it's cool. And you know, I was remind people
<v Speaker 1>of the caveats of Nintendo used to have two consoles, right,
<v Speaker 1>they had the home console and the handheld, and they
<v Speaker 1>had this the Wii and the DS at the same time.
<v Speaker 1>And god, you combine those things and it's like two
<v Speaker 1>hundred and fifty million more than that actually something like that.
<v Speaker 1>But again, things are different. And also those things did
<v Speaker 1>get price cuts and they were cheaper, and they had
<v Speaker 1>to get aggressive in sales and stuff like that, and
<v Speaker 1>they just have not had to do that this generation.
<v Speaker 1>In fact, really with the switch o let, it was
<v Speaker 1>a price increase.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah. And then with the switch light, they that
<v Speaker 2>was decrease, right, it was just a different form factor.
<v Speaker 2>It was they were following that old model, just in
<v Speaker 2>a different way, more creative way. Yeah, yeah, and I
<v Speaker 2>think that that So there are people who may own
<v Speaker 2>the switch regular for their TV and to switch light
<v Speaker 2>for when they're on the go.
<v Speaker 1>Oh, there's just a huge portion of the audience that
<v Speaker 1>owns multiple switches without a doubt, Like that is a hute.
<v Speaker 1>That's always been the case with Nintendo handhelds, and they
<v Speaker 1>just found a way to like make that make sense
<v Speaker 1>for the for the for the home console. And they
<v Speaker 1>did that without having to do the thing that they've
<v Speaker 1>done with the handhelds every generation since the Game Boy
<v Speaker 1>with a mid gen refresh with a Game Boy Color
<v Speaker 1>or you know, the Game Boy Advance sp the DS Light.
<v Speaker 1>All these things are the DS I, I should say new
<v Speaker 1>three DS. They always found ways to like keep those
<v Speaker 1>generations going and have a big upgrade that maybe made
<v Speaker 1>people feel like, well, I already have it, but I
<v Speaker 1>am playing this thing all the time. I want to
<v Speaker 1>have the best version of it. Instead, they're like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>we might do the switch pro and then they pulled
<v Speaker 1>the plug on that, and now they're doing the switch to instead.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe that I'll have some lineage in there. I think
<v Speaker 1>the switch too will have like that you'll be able
<v Speaker 1>to trace like when it was still the switch Pro.
<v Speaker 1>But clearly it's going to be a new hardware generation. Yep,
<v Speaker 1>for sure, all right, Meanwhile, analysts claims that third party
<v Speaker 1>devs are working on big launch titles for Nintendo Switch's successor.
<v Speaker 1>This is for my Nintendo News. Gaming and stock market
<v Speaker 1>analyst Paul Gaale stated and in a Twitter post recently
<v Speaker 1>that major third party developers in studios are prepping big
<v Speaker 1>launch window titles for the Switch successor to make up
<v Speaker 1>for missing Nintendo Switch's legendary release back in twenty seventeen,
<v Speaker 1>claiming that n S two, which is you know, code
<v Speaker 1>named for Nintendo Switch too, we'll have some early significant ports,
<v Speaker 1>parallel releases, and exclusives. I'll just read what Paul Gale
<v Speaker 1>wrote here. A few major third party developers whom at
<v Speaker 1>E three twenty seventeen weren't anticipating Nintendo Switch taking off
<v Speaker 1>the way it did and didn't have a triple A
<v Speaker 1>title at launch A slash the show itself, are working
<v Speaker 1>on big launch window releases for the Nintendo Switch for
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo's next system, and S two will have some
<v Speaker 1>early significant ports, parallel releases, and exclusives. I am thrilled
<v Speaker 1>at the prospect of what's next. This feels like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that sounds about right to me at this point, and
<v Speaker 1>I think it answers some questions about like, wait, why
<v Speaker 1>does it feel like some of these studios have been
<v Speaker 1>quiet or whatever, or like why does Jedi Survivor get
<v Speaker 1>poorted down to the Xbox One and PS four? Well,
<v Speaker 1>I think we can expect a game like that to
<v Speaker 1>show up, like from EA, a publisher that was absent
<v Speaker 1>not just at the launch of the Switch, but throughout
<v Speaker 1>most of its life. They had a few periods there
<v Speaker 1>were like here's like five to ten games, here's you know,
<v Speaker 1>Plants Versus Zombies the Shooter, We're going to port that
<v Speaker 1>to the Switch. I think they did that, but they
<v Speaker 1>missed out on a lot of the Switch wave, and
<v Speaker 1>now they're going to try to be there at launch.
<v Speaker 1>Do you think they can sort of rewrite history this
<v Speaker 1>generation by being there and ready to support this system.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, And I think that the story that we just
<v Speaker 2>talked about previously, the fact that it's even challenging the
<v Speaker 2>PS two lifetime sales is a big reason for that.
<v Speaker 2>As this, As Paul Gale said E three, twenty seventeen,
<v Speaker 2>there we were still coming off of the WEU debacle
<v Speaker 2>and they were like, Eh, we're not sure about this.
<v Speaker 2>We don't have vo in our plans that did not
<v Speaker 2>pan out. Obviously they should have been on board when
<v Speaker 2>this thing started. They didn't have the foresight and now
<v Speaker 2>they're playing catch up. One thing though, with some of
<v Speaker 2>the games that are mentioned. There's another paragraph here that
<v Speaker 2>you mentioned that Gail pointed out that the last two
<v Speaker 2>consensus game of the years elden Ring Games of the
<v Speaker 2>Year excuse me, elden Ring and Balder's Gate three are
<v Speaker 2>being considered for this, which is cool. Per Soda three
<v Speaker 2>Reload resid Evil four also named as well. But Switch
<v Speaker 2>two has an issue that Switch one did not have
<v Speaker 2>it launch, and that is portable PCs. These are a
<v Speaker 2>thing down now. Granted this only applies to the really
<v Speaker 2>entrenched gamer, not so much the family game. But I
<v Speaker 2>don't know if they're going to be able to They're
<v Speaker 2>going to rope people like us in with f party games, Yes,
<v Speaker 2>they're going to have They might be able to rope
<v Speaker 2>in the casual gamers with man. Everyone talked about ballders Gate,
<v Speaker 2>but I'm not upgrading to a PC and PC handhelds
<v Speaker 2>are too expensive. Oh I can do the switch to now.
<v Speaker 2>That market is certainly there, but I don't know if
<v Speaker 2>it's as lucrative as this is making it sound. It's
<v Speaker 2>cool that they're going to be there, but I think
<v Speaker 2>it's more has to be more focused on potentially new
<v Speaker 2>IP or sequels that come out day and date with
<v Speaker 2>the other consoles. And Nintendo has its own first party
<v Speaker 2>IP obviously that's going to be a huge seller. So
<v Speaker 2>I'm curious how much that weighs into a developer's decision,
<v Speaker 2>like do we want to be on switch to from
<v Speaker 2>the gate or are we cool with giving it like
<v Speaker 2>six months then just porting our PC port over or
<v Speaker 2>giving it see see what the track looks like, Will
<v Speaker 2>it be as successful, will it be even more successful?
<v Speaker 2>Where does that fall? And then they can make that decision.
<v Speaker 2>So there could be it could be caution, but I
<v Speaker 2>don't think it'll be a I don't think it'd be
<v Speaker 2>as much caution as last time if you're twenty seventeen
<v Speaker 2>and B I don't know if the impact of the
<v Speaker 2>announcements of these games on Nintendo console will be as
<v Speaker 2>heavy as it could have been because of things like
<v Speaker 2>portable PCs.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that makes sense, it does. Yeah, absolutely, I think
<v Speaker 1>that we are going to see both things happen. We're
<v Speaker 1>going to see some games like launch at the same
<v Speaker 1>time as the Switch To, and they will get a
<v Speaker 1>huge wave that they can ride. And some of those
<v Speaker 1>will be like indie games, you know. I mean there's
<v Speaker 1>a chance that like, oh what if the reason Silk
<v Speaker 1>Song hasn't come out yet because they want it wants
<v Speaker 1>they want that to be a launch game for the
<v Speaker 1>switch To. Probably not, but if it was, it would
<v Speaker 1>be massive. It would do very very well. Everyone who
<v Speaker 1>got a switch To, who has like any sort of
<v Speaker 1>tap into the indie game space would get that game.
<v Speaker 1>We saw that happen with the like Golf story in
<v Speaker 1>the early days of the switch just massive successes for
<v Speaker 1>games like that at the same time. Like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>there's a lot of assumptions that the Switch To will
<v Speaker 1>just be the switch one again, but people do kind
<v Speaker 1>of tune out when they hear the same tune again,
<v Speaker 1>Like and I think Nintendo will be able to figure
<v Speaker 1>it out, and clearly when they have new Marios and
<v Speaker 1>new Zelda's, new Mario Karts, new Animal Crossings, people will
<v Speaker 1>get excited. But will they get forty five million copies
<v Speaker 1>for Animal Crossing excited? Again, that's an open question. I
<v Speaker 1>probably not. Like if we just look at the history
<v Speaker 1>of the way, you know, when you have one thing
<v Speaker 1>and then you put it, like the way Nintendo's like
<v Speaker 1>the Super Nintendo DIDN'TDUS was in the s the GameCube
<v Speaker 1>didn't do as well as the n sixty four kind
<v Speaker 1>of in that range. The uh, the three DS, Dindus wells,
<v Speaker 1>the DS the follow up that never does as well.
<v Speaker 1>And I think a big part of that is, like
<v Speaker 1>people are like, why I had this experience, and yeah,
<v Speaker 1>sure that's a new animal crossing that is, and that's
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart ten and we've been waiting for that. Mario
<v Speaker 1>Kart feels like it'll do find no matter what. But
<v Speaker 1>everyone's bought Mario Kart eight Deluxe in the last to
<v Speaker 1>ten years, and I don't know if the excitement will
<v Speaker 1>necessarily be able to replicate itself to a t. That said,
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo I think is aware of this. I think they are.
<v Speaker 1>They know better than anyone, They see the numbers better
<v Speaker 1>than it better than anyone. I think they will be
<v Speaker 1>anticipating some strategies to overcome and like sort of sidle
<v Speaker 1>along this problem and get around it in some ways.
<v Speaker 1>So you know, we just got to see them like
<v Speaker 1>lay down exactly what the track is going to look
<v Speaker 1>like for the system and the games at putting at.
<v Speaker 2>I think I agree with you on Animal Crossings case
<v Speaker 2>because Animal Crossing, I think was a product of its
<v Speaker 2>release date April twenty twenty. Everybody needed something to do
<v Speaker 2>and that just it blew up because of that. Not
<v Speaker 2>to say that Animal Crossing is not popular, but I
<v Speaker 2>don't know that there'll be forty five million copies popular.
<v Speaker 2>Whatever the future iteration is on the switch to it'll
<v Speaker 2>be popular in this house. I'll tell you that for sure,
<v Speaker 2>but I can't tell you outside of the house. I
<v Speaker 2>don't know. I think Mario Kart, as you said, is
<v Speaker 2>just inevitable. Honestly, Mario games are inevitable. Zelda games are
<v Speaker 2>inevitable to sell well, and they'll there are the people
<v Speaker 2>who've been playing them forever. I'm with you on the
<v Speaker 2>follow up not being as popular, but then again, this
<v Speaker 2>is the only Nintendo console now, Yep, it's the only
<v Speaker 2>one that there is, right.
<v Speaker 1>Is like Pokemon and yeah, yeah, people they're not. People
<v Speaker 1>are just not going to be able to ignore Pokemon.
<v Speaker 1>That's not an option for a huge look swas multiple
<v Speaker 1>gener That's.
<v Speaker 2>True, and the next Pokemon has the added pressure of
<v Speaker 2>making up for Scarlet and violets bullshit.
<v Speaker 1>Right which and you know, we're starting to get the
<v Speaker 1>sense that maybe they want to make up for it,
<v Speaker 1>which was also an open question. And it's like, well,
<v Speaker 1>if they want, they want to.
<v Speaker 2>Like and that right by Legends that Legends za is
<v Speaker 2>still out there. World Pokemon World is next weekend. We'll
<v Speaker 2>probably get some more informational on that. Who knows when
<v Speaker 2>that's coming? Could that be pushed to switch launch title
<v Speaker 2>as well? Legends are actually rcs being as good as
<v Speaker 2>it was?
<v Speaker 1>Who knows?
<v Speaker 2>It's it's a it's a very interesting question that we
<v Speaker 2>have been asking ourselves now for what two three years,
<v Speaker 2>what the hell's going on with the switch successor? I
<v Speaker 2>feel like the light might be at the end of
<v Speaker 2>the tunnel. I just don't know how long the tunnel is.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean it's I can't I remember exactly what
<v Speaker 1>he said or what that Nintendo said. They're supposed to
<v Speaker 1>tell us about the next switch this year? Still was
<v Speaker 1>it this calendar year? Okay?
<v Speaker 2>So I March twenty twenty five will have some sort
<v Speaker 2>of information. And I also think too, I think one
<v Speaker 2>of the most crucial things if they haven't learned their lesson.
<v Speaker 2>I'll be very upset. Is the name. It has to
<v Speaker 2>be a name that is discernible enough the current one.
<v Speaker 2>It can't be we we you again, whether it's its
<v Speaker 2>own thing or you do it, you put a spin
<v Speaker 2>on like I've heard Super Nintendo Switch. I like that,
<v Speaker 2>Nintendo Switch Advance, I like that too. Maybe its own thing,
<v Speaker 2>Like somebody mentioned the magnets that are in the patent,
<v Speaker 2>so it could be like Wave or or something like that.
<v Speaker 2>Nintendo Wait, whatever it would be. It can't be switched you.
<v Speaker 2>It cannot be switched you. I see that.
<v Speaker 1>Chat right, and it's like even switch feel like that too.
<v Speaker 1>Like I think when like Game Boy Advance came out,
<v Speaker 1>it was so easy to understand, like, well that's new
<v Speaker 1>because look at these games like these days, you don't
<v Speaker 1>have that advantage. Like even when they went from WE
<v Speaker 1>to we U and it was SD to HD, even
<v Speaker 1>that jump kind of isn't enough to really illustrate the
<v Speaker 1>difference to a lay person for the most part. So
<v Speaker 1>uh yeah, it not like not like it once was.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's hit these last handful of stories here. Quick,
<v Speaker 1>go play Call of Duty's WWE mode before it goes away.
<v Speaker 1>This is from alystamer Conte at Kotaku. I understand that
<v Speaker 1>this this WW mode is quite a bit of fun.
<v Speaker 1>People seem to enjoy it. I want to maybe find
<v Speaker 1>time to check it out, But if I don't have
<v Speaker 1>time today, I'm going to miss it, I guess. So,
<v Speaker 1>as with any Call of Duty game, I interested in
<v Speaker 1>Modern Warfare three waxes and wanes depending on what modes
<v Speaker 1>or gimmicks the FPS is offering at any given moment.
<v Speaker 1>Last summer, when Warzone added a mode themed around the
<v Speaker 1>Amazon Prime series The Boys, I jumped back in for
<v Speaker 1>a few weeks to roast some people with my laser eyes. Now,
<v Speaker 1>a new WWE game mode called Slam Deathmatch, along with
<v Speaker 1>several wrestling legends available as operators, has once again pulled
<v Speaker 1>me back into my more fair three Frey or into
<v Speaker 1>the Modern war for three Fray. Season five of war
<v Speaker 1>Zone and Modern war for three added new base what Weapons,
<v Speaker 1>a new battle pass that included WWE a Superstar Raya Ripley,
<v Speaker 1>two other famous wrestler skins available to purchase Cody Roads
<v Speaker 1>and Ray Mysterio, and a temporary new game mode called
<v Speaker 1>Slam death Match running as a cross promo with WWE
<v Speaker 1>ww SummerSlam, which aired on August third. It's the last
<v Speaker 1>bit and RAYL Ripley that got me to jump back
<v Speaker 1>into the shooter after months away. Yeah, of course, and
<v Speaker 1>boy am I glad I did. Slam death Match is
<v Speaker 1>absolutely bananas and a great way to go get the
<v Speaker 1>feel for the current and ever shifting call of duty
<v Speaker 1>gun meta Slam Deathmatch is simple. It's a regular team
<v Speaker 1>deathmatch on smaller sized maps, but you down enemies like
<v Speaker 1>in war Zone rather than outright killing them, and your
<v Speaker 1>grenades are disabled. When you down a player, a WWE
<v Speaker 1>logo will appear over their heads and you can run
<v Speaker 1>over and long press your right joystick to do a
<v Speaker 1>finishing move on them while a WWE announcer shouts in disbelief,
<v Speaker 1>which sounds incredible. Actually, man, maybe I actually should definitely
<v Speaker 1>go play this. I liked that live service games are
<v Speaker 1>like are able to do this sort of thing, but
<v Speaker 1>then I also hate that they do feel always sometime
<v Speaker 1>time limited, not always, but very frequently time limited, where
<v Speaker 1>it's like, if you don't get in there now, you're
<v Speaker 1>gonna have that fear of missing out, and that's kind
<v Speaker 1>of frustrating as well, but this seems like the right
<v Speaker 1>way to be doing these kinds of promotional modes in
<v Speaker 1>something like Call of Duty, right.
<v Speaker 2>I agree, I'm as much as I want to play this,
<v Speaker 2>the download size of Call of Duty at the moment
<v Speaker 2>has completely I can't. I have to clear the whole
<v Speaker 2>dam Yeah. Also, as somebody pointed out in the chat,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if you saw the Dominic Mysterio tweet
<v Speaker 2>about it. Somebody had posted a picture of them having
<v Speaker 2>just killed the Ray Mysterio skin and he's laying and
<v Speaker 2>he's dead, and someone's like, oh no, So the Dominic
<v Speaker 2>took it and superimposed a picture of him from when
<v Speaker 2>he was a kid playing PSP Pianos screen. It is phenomenal. No,
<v Speaker 2>I damn you crazy. I love that they do this
<v Speaker 2>limited time stuff. I just wish they would bring it
<v Speaker 2>back a little more often, right, Like the modes, specifically
<v Speaker 2>the skins, if they come back, they don't come back. Whatever.
<v Speaker 2>If I miss a skin, that's just money I didn't spend.
<v Speaker 2>But limited time modes in a free game like this,
<v Speaker 2>like if I just have a busy week, or if
<v Speaker 2>I'm on vacation and I miss it's Tuesday to Thursday,
<v Speaker 2>and I just do not happen to be there.
<v Speaker 1>Screw me.
<v Speaker 2>If me, I guess which were press f in chat?
<v Speaker 2>I guess it's called duty, right we're talking about But
<v Speaker 2>that that sucks. Like Fortnite, perfect example, they have a
<v Speaker 2>timed event this Saturday, two pm Eastern. I have a
<v Speaker 2>charity event to go to. I won't be able to go.
<v Speaker 2>I won't be able to watch this. Now, am I
<v Speaker 2>boohooing the fact that I won't be able to do
<v Speaker 2>this Fortnite event? No, I'll probably watch it on YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>But just the fact that I couldn't, you know, like
<v Speaker 2>the and they sprung it on us, what yesterday, this
<v Speaker 2>is happening on Saturday. That's not enough. I would like
<v Speaker 2>a little more time as a as a busy family
<v Speaker 2>man and father and all this other stuff, to be
<v Speaker 2>able to make some time and sit down and play
<v Speaker 2>some video games. But you know, they're not doing it
<v Speaker 2>for me. They're doing it for the people who are,
<v Speaker 2>you know, on a Saturday afternoon not doing anything.
<v Speaker 1>And like I get like the appointment viewing sort of
<v Speaker 1>angle of all this of you know, yeah, it's sure,
<v Speaker 1>but the foremo is the point is probably what they're
<v Speaker 1>thinking like, we do want you to feel a sense
<v Speaker 1>of urgency to come hop into this game so you
<v Speaker 1>don't miss out on something. And you know, we do
<v Speaker 1>live streaming. That's that's the same thing, like, hey, you
<v Speaker 1>can watch it live, be a part of when something
<v Speaker 1>crazy happens in greb a grub in Blake Club, that
<v Speaker 1>sort of thing. So I completely sympathize with that way
<v Speaker 1>of doing things. And but I think I'm like realizing, no,
<v Speaker 1>I won't get a chance to try something like this,
<v Speaker 1>and you know, Sean's mitsche It's like it's fun for
<v Speaker 1>a little bit, but I'm like, I just want to
<v Speaker 1>experience it a little bit, so that would be fine.
<v Speaker 1>It's just kind of want to get a taste of it.
<v Speaker 1>So who knows, Maybe maybe I will still find a
<v Speaker 1>way to download and play it tonight. It's just you know,
<v Speaker 1>it's a busy Thursdays are always busy for me.
<v Speaker 2>And also, one more quick thing, I have always found
<v Speaker 2>it very disturbing when they put real world people in
<v Speaker 2>call of duty. It's odd, you know what I mean.
<v Speaker 1>There's a little bit of like, yeah, h Cody Roads
<v Speaker 1>running around with a big gun is a weird look.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, absolutely, No, seeing Cody Roads dead on the ground
<v Speaker 2>after I shot him is very disappointed, very upsetting. I
<v Speaker 2>don't want to kill Rea Rippy. I want to hang
<v Speaker 2>out with.
<v Speaker 1>Yep arn Anderson though. They should put him in the game.
<v Speaker 1>That makes sense.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, just his face on glock.
<v Speaker 1>Exactly the clock. Yeah, all right, let's see here. Console Wars,
<v Speaker 1>the card game has been announced. This is from Jordan
<v Speaker 1>Midler at VGC. Console Wars, a new card game published
<v Speaker 1>by the gaming outlet Xbox Era, has been announced. In
<v Speaker 1>order to win the Console Wars, content is king and
<v Speaker 1>intellectual intellectual property ownership of the best games is everything,
<v Speaker 1>reads a description for the game. In order to emerge victorious,
<v Speaker 1>players will need to be battle for ownership of full
<v Speaker 1>four full sets of IP across genres from action packed
<v Speaker 1>first person shooters, iconic platformers, and deep complex RPGs. There's
<v Speaker 1>a Kickstarter for this. They're almost they almost are one
<v Speaker 1>hundred percent back. I think they're going for twenty thousand pounds.
<v Speaker 1>At the time of this writing, it was fifteen thousand.
<v Speaker 1>I think they're much closer now. It is a very
<v Speaker 1>fun idea. I think of like turning this concept of
<v Speaker 1>list wars and people whining about games into a fun
<v Speaker 1>card game instead. Because also it's like it makes some sense.
<v Speaker 1>I like this idea of like, oh, yeah, you got
<v Speaker 1>to like battle each other to get the IP and
<v Speaker 1>become an acquisition lord or something like that. I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>this sounds pretty cool. I'll bring up a video of it,
<v Speaker 1>but I don't know any interest in this from you,
<v Speaker 1>Jason Finelli.
<v Speaker 2>I'm always interested to sit down and play a new
<v Speaker 2>tabletop card game, board game. I'll give everything a shot.
<v Speaker 2>Once there is a little bit of me that's like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>we're just fighting for ips and yeah, you know, highest Bidder,
<v Speaker 2>and it seems a little too close to.
<v Speaker 1>Home, right exactly. Maybe maybe, yeah, a bit too soon. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>but all the.
<v Speaker 2>Tumult in the in the gaming industry at the moment.
<v Speaker 2>To use a big word, but yeah, good for them.
<v Speaker 2>I hope, I hope it is great, and I hope
<v Speaker 2>one time I get a chance to play it. Maybe
<v Speaker 2>if they're at pack some plug here in Philly, I'll
<v Speaker 2>see it there and uh get to check it out,
<v Speaker 2>and yeah, I would love I mean, like I said,
<v Speaker 2>I'm always willing to try new games. This one has
<v Speaker 2>a nice little bent to it. If it's a humorous,
<v Speaker 2>sort of like off kilter, offbeat sort of take on
<v Speaker 2>the idea. Then yeah, sure, I don't mind. I don't
<v Speaker 2>mind that putting a smile on my face. But if
<v Speaker 2>it gets really like Rubby and grindy and yeah and
<v Speaker 2>we're too close to yeah, sorry I did say grubby.
<v Speaker 1>There is there is a little bit of that fun
<v Speaker 1>whimsical here, and we're seeing in the video, like the
<v Speaker 1>way that they're getting around not having you know, the
<v Speaker 1>actual I P. There's God of gore Ola instead of Halo,
<v Speaker 1>so let's say it's h O l A. That's good.
<v Speaker 1>There's Mood instead of Doom Burrio brothers uh I see that? Yeah, Devil, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that's pretty good. The Legend of Esmeralda. Yeah, so that's like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, just kind of the play on that where
<v Speaker 1>everyone knows what they're going for, but like, let's see
<v Speaker 1>how they're gonna pull off this next pun. There's some
<v Speaker 1>fun there too, and I like the the art on
<v Speaker 1>these things too, So yeah, this is impressive. There's a
<v Speaker 1>Kickstarter for it. You could find it. I'm sure you
<v Speaker 1>can go to xbox eras Twitter or something like that.
<v Speaker 1>They'll have all the details there. But it's called Console
<v Speaker 1>Wars the card game. Shout out to those guys, you know,
<v Speaker 1>full disclosure, I'm friendly with them. Those are nice people.
<v Speaker 1>So but I did I did see this story. I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>oh yeah, I thought I saw them talking about that.
<v Speaker 1>I'll throw that in here. All right, let's see here,
<v Speaker 1>I think last story. Yes, PlayStation VR PC or VR
<v Speaker 1>two PC adapter is available now, but it is selling
<v Speaker 1>out fast. This is from John Bittner at game Spot.
<v Speaker 1>The PlayStation VR two hasn't exactly been a huge hit
<v Speaker 1>among PS five owners, with Sony reportedly pushing pausing production
<v Speaker 1>earlier this year until current stock is depleted. Recent two
<v Speaker 1>hundred dollars discount during PlayStations back to school sale certainly
<v Speaker 1>helped with that, but it might be the PSVR two
<v Speaker 1>PC adapter that moves the needle even more. Released this
<v Speaker 1>week for sixty dollars, the PSVR two PC adapter ads
<v Speaker 1>support for gaming PCs and thousands of Steam VR games
<v Speaker 1>without needing a PS five console. You will need this
<v Speaker 1>sixty dollars adapter, though you will also need a pretty
<v Speaker 1>decent PC, you know, like Core I five seventy six
<v Speaker 1>hundred a GTX sixteen to fifty or better. Things like that. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>people do talk about this thing, Jason in a way.
<v Speaker 1>They're like, yeah, this could be the thing that really
<v Speaker 1>helps push PSVR two, And I'm just like, no, this
<v Speaker 1>is not that introducing complexity, introducing an expensive dongle. Really,
<v Speaker 1>sixty dollars is pretty expensive. That is going to be
<v Speaker 1>for a fraction of a fraction of a fraction. Now, right,
<v Speaker 1>we have the fraction of people who wanted a PSVR
<v Speaker 1>two maybe in the first place, and then the fraction
<v Speaker 1>that actually made that purchase, and then the actually that
<v Speaker 1>wants to play it on PC, and then that fraction
<v Speaker 1>that actually went out and bought this thing. It's not
<v Speaker 1>going to move the needle. Really. That said, I'm glad
<v Speaker 1>they're doing it, and I think it'll It'll probably sell
<v Speaker 1>a few extra PSVR twos here and there, but it's
<v Speaker 1>it's pretty limited. A lot of the features of the
<v Speaker 1>PSVR two that make that thing special don't work on
<v Speaker 1>the PC even with all these even if you do
<v Speaker 1>have all the specs and the dongle. So at a
<v Speaker 1>certain points's like, well, if you're going to be playing
<v Speaker 1>VR games on PC, why wouldn't you just get the
<v Speaker 1>the valve index. Why wouldn't you just get an Oculus
<v Speaker 1>Rift three and use the wireless Steam VR stuff instead,
<v Speaker 1>which is what I do a lot of times, and
<v Speaker 1>that works great. So yeah, and that I'll set. I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>maybe she got a PSVR two. So I'm right back
<v Speaker 1>at the beginning. They're kind of talking myself into it.
<v Speaker 1>How about you? What do you think about this? Now?
<v Speaker 2>Conversely, if you're going to be if you want to
<v Speaker 2>play VR using a PlayStation VR two and you have
<v Speaker 2>a PS five, why do you need the Donald's use
<v Speaker 2>the PS five? So it definitely seems like a no
<v Speaker 2>stoned unturned sort of scenario, or this just trying to
<v Speaker 2>do as much as they can to get PSVR two
<v Speaker 2>as in as many homes as possible. I am with
<v Speaker 2>you that I don't really see the market for this.
<v Speaker 2>A fraction of a fraction of a fraction is the
<v Speaker 2>perfect way to describe it. I mean, I can't really
<v Speaker 2>describe it any better than that. I feel like they
<v Speaker 2>should be it's cool and as you said, it is
<v Speaker 2>cool to have this new option for PC players to
<v Speaker 2>do VR on their PCs. And me looking at these
<v Speaker 2>specs right now, I am realizing I could run this.
<v Speaker 2>I could do that, yep. But and that's the minimum specs,
<v Speaker 2>so who knows what it'll look like. It wouldn't even
<v Speaker 2>be worth it if I were to invest in PSVR
<v Speaker 2>two to get this dongle when it's probably going to
<v Speaker 2>look better on my PS five anyway, if these are
<v Speaker 2>the minimum specs, right, I just again, maybe this is
<v Speaker 2>just me being out of VR, like being a late
<v Speaker 2>comer into your As I mentioned earlier, we were talking
<v Speaker 2>about ready at one, But I just I don't see
<v Speaker 2>the appeal of making the p s f R two
<v Speaker 2>compatible with PC, especially for those who already own a
<v Speaker 2>PS five. It's just seems like extra work.
<v Speaker 1>Is it?
<v Speaker 2>Just play the games on PC that aren't on PS five?
<v Speaker 2>Is that it?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>But how many of those are there?
<v Speaker 1>Are? There?
<v Speaker 2>Are there many?
<v Speaker 1>There's quite a few, But it's not I mean, there's
<v Speaker 1>a half Life Alex, right, there's that's one. Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>there's there. And there's a handful of others for sure
<v Speaker 1>that are like big names. But then there's tons of
<v Speaker 1>others that of course never came to PS five that
<v Speaker 1>you know, small the studios upload the stem for a
<v Speaker 1>couple of bucks, things like that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, there are some suggestions in the chat too, and
<v Speaker 2>Zigfred needs to go to church.
<v Speaker 1>Pornography, Yes, that is definitely. Uh it probably that brought
<v Speaker 1>stuff probably mostly works on PS five. Oh that doesn't browser. Actually,
<v Speaker 1>so maybe it doesn't. Who knows. I've no idea. That's weird,
<v Speaker 1>but I bet someone has figured it out over there
<v Speaker 1>on the PS five is where there's a will, there's
<v Speaker 1>a way. Yeah, they got the When there's a dongle,
<v Speaker 1>there's definitely a way. Expensive dongle, expensive dongles in pornography, everybody.
<v Speaker 1>That's what we do over here on Games Mornings, and
<v Speaker 1>that is going to do it for the headlines on
<v Speaker 1>on today's episode. Instead, let's get over to the poll
<v Speaker 1>which I had right hearing me refresh, I gotta vote
<v Speaker 1>in this thing.
<v Speaker 2>Let's see here, get over to the poll.
<v Speaker 1>Let's get over the pole. Indeed, everybody who needs church.
<v Speaker 1>When you have the poll on Game mess Mornings, do
<v Speaker 1>you feel like the PS four Xbox one support is
<v Speaker 1>still holding back new Gin releases? I'm going to say
<v Speaker 1>I never felt that way. Twenty percent say they never
<v Speaker 1>felt that way as well. Twenty three percent said no
<v Speaker 1>and fifty seven percent said yes. So the kind of
<v Speaker 1>people that tune into the show, kind of people on
<v Speaker 1>the Giant Bomb YouTube channel still feeling a little kind
<v Speaker 1>of frustrated by this. I don't know if it's going
<v Speaker 1>away now, I mean.
<v Speaker 2>Not until not until they both say that they're discontinuing
<v Speaker 2>those consoles.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, like GTA six will clearly be next
<v Speaker 1>gen new gen only excuse me, but like Call of Duty, right,
<v Speaker 1>call of Duty's one that they just said. They've said, hey,
<v Speaker 1>we want that running on the Switch and Nintendo stuff
<v Speaker 1>going forward. So if you get that then going on
<v Speaker 1>the Switch too, you're basically doing a lot of work
<v Speaker 1>to make it pretty close to being able to run
<v Speaker 1>on Xbox one and PS four, Then why wouldn't you
<v Speaker 1>just keep releasing it on those systems. So I think
<v Speaker 1>we're going to have that sort of thing for quite
<v Speaker 1>some time. And having them do all the work to
<v Speaker 1>support Jedi Survivor to PS four and Xbox one in
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty four says to me that this is we're
<v Speaker 1>still kind of quite a ways off from really leaving
<v Speaker 1>those things behind. And in the meantime, I don't feel
<v Speaker 1>like I don't feel like gaming's being helped back, not really,
<v Speaker 1>it's time and money. Time and money is what actually
<v Speaker 1>holds these games back, not hardware anymore. So yep, that's fair.
<v Speaker 1>Do they have separate studios working on these ports or
<v Speaker 1>separate teams if it's the same resources that I could
<v Speaker 1>see the argument. Yeah, but totally that sort of thing. Yes, right,
<v Speaker 1>there is a zero sum at some point. I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I think respond probably did do some of the work
<v Speaker 1>to port Jedi Survivor, but they needed to get that
<v Speaker 1>game running better anyhow, so they probably didn't need to
<v Speaker 1>do that work.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know a lot of times they will bring
<v Speaker 1>in external studios though. All right, I have a new
<v Speaker 1>poll question that we'll get to in a second. Before
<v Speaker 1>we do that, Jason, why don't you tell people where
<v Speaker 1>they can find you on the internet what you have
<v Speaker 1>going on all that good stuff?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, so at big Man Finelle, that's f A N
<v Speaker 2>E L L I on basically every social media that
<v Speaker 2>there is. If you're looking for me, that's where you'll
<v Speaker 2>find me. You may have seen me lamenting last Friday,
<v Speaker 2>along with the loss of game and former, the loss
<v Speaker 2>of a feature that I was doing for them regarding
<v Speaker 2>fighting games and EVO, that has found a new home,
<v Speaker 2>so that thing will be going out. It'll I don't
<v Speaker 2>know when I have some interviews to finish then I
<v Speaker 2>get to get together, but it will be going out
<v Speaker 2>and I will certainly blast that once it happens. But otherwise,
<v Speaker 2>still write news for game spots, still writing the occasional
<v Speaker 2>thing for rpag dot com. Go support them. Joe's a
<v Speaker 2>great dude, he's uh, and yet still doing the collectible
<v Speaker 2>card thing. Uh, I want to yeah, just I'm just
<v Speaker 2>it's just it's normal times, Jeff. For we're in the
<v Speaker 2>end of the summer, going into the holiday review season.
<v Speaker 2>I imagine there will be a lot of games to review
<v Speaker 2>between now and them, so I'm sure you'll see me elsewhere.
<v Speaker 2>I'm doing some more for VGC lately. To Andy Robinson
<v Speaker 2>over there is a good fellow in fact, in fact,
<v Speaker 2>answer my DM Andy, I have I have a I
<v Speaker 2>have a review pitch and no I'm kidding, but yeah.
<v Speaker 2>So also to just want to shout out, uh, I
<v Speaker 2>mentioned I'm going to a charity event on Saturday my
<v Speaker 2>grandmother down in North Wallwood, New Jersey or Kate May Courthouse,
<v Speaker 2>New Jersey, as part of a group called These Survivors
<v Speaker 2>of cancer. They raise money and give it to survivors
<v Speaker 2>of cancer or people going through cancer in the in
<v Speaker 2>the Cape May County, New Jersey area. Every year they
<v Speaker 2>have a big fundraiser they this that happens to be
<v Speaker 2>this Saturday. Couldn't go last year because I was in Japan. Uh,
<v Speaker 2>But going this year to hang out, support my grandmother
<v Speaker 2>and sing the national anthem. So you might see that.
<v Speaker 2>Ye yeah on Saturday. Fantastic But yeah, love the event.
<v Speaker 2>We have a good time. And if you're in Kate
<v Speaker 2>May County, New Jersey, you're in South Jersey, go to
<v Speaker 2>the Bolero, buy yourself ticket, have some drinks and have
<v Speaker 2>some fun.
<v Speaker 1>That sounds like a good time. Everyone show up, Come on, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>let's see here. Let's do this pull question real quick.
<v Speaker 1>Are you going to see the Borderlands movie this weekend? Yes?
<v Speaker 1>Or no? I can't wait to see the results of
<v Speaker 1>this on Oh yeah, to look at this tomorrow Friday,
<v Speaker 1>Tomorrow's episode of Game Best Morning's here on Giant Bomb.
<v Speaker 1>Speaking to Giant Bomb plenty's still happeny. We will be
<v Speaker 1>doing power BombCast today. Then Voicemail Dump Truck. We're going
<v Speaker 1>to wrap up our thoughts on the summer slam and
<v Speaker 1>talk about kind of what we did at the show,
<v Speaker 1>and we went to see Sammy Sayin's like comedy thing.
<v Speaker 1>We'll talk about all that, So tune in if you're
<v Speaker 1>curious about our thoughts about going to Cleveland Brown Stadium
<v Speaker 1>and seeing all that stuff inpose in person. And then, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>lots still happen on Job Bomb across the board for
<v Speaker 1>the next few weeks. The traveling has started up, so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>games are coming out, but also there was that little
<v Speaker 1>beat there where things slowed down, like in the heart
<v Speaker 1>of summer, and now it's picking back up again and traveling.
<v Speaker 1>A lot of the crew heading out to Germany for
<v Speaker 1>Games com I'm not going Backloor is not going We're
<v Speaker 1>gonna hold down the fort here. Uh. But essentially, you know,
<v Speaker 1>and you know, content exactly how it'll work out always
<v Speaker 1>gonna be a little influx. But the idea is, let's
<v Speaker 1>take the shows on the road, So expect maybe like
<v Speaker 1>a bomb cast from the road and things like that,
<v Speaker 1>maybe a voicemail dump truck even from the road. So
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna go to Germany, have a good time, come
<v Speaker 1>back with a lot of fun stuff and we'll, you know,
<v Speaker 1>we'll talk over Opening Night Live and stuff like that,
<v Speaker 1>from home and things like that. But yeah, lots lots
<v Speaker 1>of traveling happens, so gonna be busy here, Gonna try
<v Speaker 1>to make the most of it. Blake Club did just
<v Speaker 1>end its run. Daika Grebba is done. Yes, very happy
<v Speaker 1>I did. We did get the numbers. We did get
<v Speaker 1>the numbers. And twenty four hours to get through Dyka time. Well,
<v Speaker 1>now that's way longer than how long to beat, but
<v Speaker 1>that is because no one plays the way I did.
<v Speaker 1>They always use the fan patch, and they turned down
<v Speaker 1>the difficulty, and they have unlimited saves, which would it
<v Speaker 1>would make a huge difference. And then also like when
<v Speaker 1>people are like, well, if you played through Vanilla the
<v Speaker 1>first time, it could take thirty to thirty five hours.
<v Speaker 1>So I think we did a little bit better than
<v Speaker 1>the worst case scenario. Now that means that if you
<v Speaker 1>add up all the times I've played games, I played
<v Speaker 1>sixty hours on Blake Club, where Mike has played thirty.
<v Speaker 1>Now he's behind in the rotation, so he's got one
<v Speaker 1>more game coming. But Dan's only played thirty seven hours,
<v Speaker 1>and there's going to be payback. There must be justice
<v Speaker 1>in this world. I must get I must get my revenge.
<v Speaker 2>During the pre show, Scout Cam, I don't know if
<v Speaker 2>you saw what they were doing when they were waiting
<v Speaker 2>for us to come on. It was just it was
<v Speaker 2>all Scout all the time. Chat was going off about
<v Speaker 2>speculation as to what the next game is. To tell
<v Speaker 2>me what it is now, because I assume you're not
<v Speaker 2>going to do that, but when.
<v Speaker 1>So soon as we're off, we will.
<v Speaker 2>We find out.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone will find out when Mike finds out on the
<v Speaker 1>next episode of Light Club Live, when he unwraps the
<v Speaker 1>game and sees his costume and stuff like that, So
<v Speaker 1>we'll all find out together. That's the way this goes down.
<v Speaker 1>And he's got it. It's in his house, it's wrapped,
<v Speaker 1>it's in the package still, so he's gonna have to
<v Speaker 1>deal with that here pretty soon. I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Little more excited for this or the cake that will
<v Speaker 2>come of it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it is a wee game. We have said that
<v Speaker 1>it's a wee game. He's not a fan of waggle,
<v Speaker 1>so and we were sure to pick one that had
<v Speaker 1>lots of good waggle in there. So I'm doing pretty
<v Speaker 1>good about it. Excellent, all right, let me see anything
<v Speaker 1>else I wanted to mention. Uh no, no, I don't
<v Speaker 1>think so. Jason Fondelling, thank you so much for hanging
<v Speaker 1>out with me today and talking about video games. Man,
<v Speaker 1>I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>Heck yeah, man love doing it. Anytime you need me, I'm.
<v Speaker 1>Here absolutely, and thank you all for listening. You're the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one,
<v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye.
