00:00:06 Speaker 1: NFL. 00:00:06 Speaker 2: Cover Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the NFL and iHeart podcast. 00:00:20 Speaker 1: We are five of the six games into the NFL Wild Card Playoffs and Cover zero is here. 00:00:28 Speaker 2: I was talking to Matt Jones Drew Franklin. I was talking with the guys at the NFL. I say to guys, to you, you know, like Roger and those guys, and I was talking about this podcast, and they said, we love that. You guys just start yeah, like there's no intro to the point you just go all right, well it's week say And I didn't realize I did that. 00:00:46 Speaker 3: Now I'm self conscious about it. 00:00:48 Speaker 1: That was one of the first things I mentioned, and they liked that we did it that way. I didn't expect that to be the feedback. I feel like these are pretty normal intros. 00:00:57 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:00:58 Speaker 2: And also you wonder, though, is that something you say when you don't know what else to say to. 00:01:01 Speaker 1: People or they're only listening to the first two minutes. 00:01:05 Speaker 2: I didn't do it, so this week, okay, all right, we're good. Maybe we could just read God with the win for thirty minutes in the middle and they wouldn't They wouldn't know, but for four of the five games so far in the wild Card Playoff as exciting. Around of exciting four games, you could have and then just finished with the Patriots and Chargers. But for the first four we'll throw the Patriots and Chargers to the end. How awesome were these games. It's been a great weekend. We knew this field would be wide open without the usual names we see in the mix, and then even with the big points spreads like our first game on Saturday, still coming down to the wire. The first four games of the weekend, the team leading with two minutes left end up losing. I mean, it just shows you the comebacks that I didn't make that connection at the two minute warning the first four games they end up losing the game and all of them. So it just shows you how the chaotic finishes we got in every game up until the snoozer we just got in. Some of the il has been on kind of an historic run just in terms of having it probably coincides directly with the start of this podcast. I mean, like all these primetime games this year have been ridiculous. I mean we've talked about two or three of the craziest games I've ever seen, and then I mean, we might as well go right into it to my Chicago Bears. 00:02:21 Speaker 1: That'll get the first playoff win in thirteen years and. 00:02:27 Speaker 2: The third game of this Packers Bears trilogy, all of which have been insanely good games. This one, however, as a Bears fan, it's the best win since the Super Bowl in terms of excitement when you consider the opponent, the comeback, the plays made. I mean, Drew, I can't think of a time that I was more like into well, let's say it's been I mean I was a little kid for the Super Bowl. 00:02:59 Speaker 1: I was pacing up and down. I threw something at one point. You know, we were connected from my UK basketball post game show, and I was embarrassed for the sounds I was making because I knew Billy could hear it through the thing. 00:03:11 Speaker 4: I actually recorded the sound that you made when the Bears won on the final play. 00:03:16 Speaker 1: You did I did you want me to pull? 00:03:18 Speaker 3: You don't have. 00:03:20 Speaker 1: I was in Florida. I didn't get to hear this. 00:03:22 Speaker 2: You did not record stop it. Now you're all right here we go, come on, all right that you're playing this right now? 00:03:35 Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna playing it here recording your access to nice. 00:03:44 Speaker 3: That's good. That was by myself and that was me. 00:03:47 Speaker 2: I like, you got it. That was the that was the last play. What an amazing comeback and win. Happy for you, I mean everyone in the NFL retreat to a great game. But for Bears fans, I mean, I'm seeing your excitement now and a day later, that atmosphere. 00:04:02 Speaker 1: On Soldier Field, Yeah, that looked awesome. Look, I'm on my couch thinking I would give any I don't even care about these two. I would give anything to be in Chicago. Everyone there was just out of their seat, seemed the whole game, and then having a blast. Nervous in the beginning. But Bears fans one of that game. So I don't know how if you're a Bear's owner or a Bear's management, how you can see that atmosphere and think you need a dome, right, Like, part of what makes that atmosphere is it's cold. They know what address, they're already on the gloves, they do it. Part of what makes it great. It's night, it's cold, everybody's like in this thing together. And then of course it's the packers and there's there's so many things to. 00:04:44 Speaker 2: Talk about from the game. I'm gonna give you like the four things that are most interesting to me. First of all, I think you have to say Caleb Williams the throw on fourth and eight where I don't think either one of his feet were. 00:04:57 Speaker 1: On the ground when he threw it. Is that one of the best throws you've ever seen? Yeah, I mean, I think the announcer even said this. I'm still in point because I thought the same thing. He couldn't have walked out there and put the ball in a better place, handed it to the receiver, but he. 00:05:12 Speaker 3: Guys in circling. Yeah. 00:05:14 Speaker 1: Yeah, an incredible throwing in that moment. And Cale not just that throw, even when they were just slowly building the comeback, and you can see the belief. He kind of had a calm composure. There was a moment where hes Yon at his teammates where had showed him fire. He did, but that was a guy that didn't look rattled on that stage, even down the way they were. It's interesting when you look at his stack. I did not know until this in the game. 00:05:33 Speaker 2: That he has the lowest completion percentage of any quarterback in the NFL, But he also has the fewest interceptions, which means he kind of knows like just how to throw in complete passes away from the defense. No, but that's right, like he avoids the big mistake, and then he makes those massive places. He was unbelievable, And you know, I mean, for all the sort of people saying, well, he's kind of he's a little weird, and he's a little he's a little quirky and all that, the teammate team still really rallies around and those plays, I mean were unbelievable. Then second, the comeback and how poorly the Packers managed the second half of the game seven points and miss kicks, and then Matt Lafoor, what is he doing with the clock? 00:06:21 Speaker 1: How do you get a delay of game out of a timeout? I mean, yeah, a delay of game on second down, throwing it when you need to run clock, which then leads you to have to throw it on third down when it's incomplete again. 00:06:33 Speaker 2: So you give the Bears all that time. They didn't end up needing it, but you didn't know that at the moment. 00:06:37 Speaker 1: He already had a little reputation for, you know, not knowing what to do with the clock. He goes back Packers fans are and bringing it up where they were like down eight years ago, and he kicked a phil goal with like two minutes left, Like what are you doing none ten yard line? You know that was in the past, but you know they were already on edge about him anyway in big moments, and he dropped the ball big times some clock issues in the game that the Bears came back a few weeks ago. 00:06:58 Speaker 2: He had the same thing now the kicker Brandon McManus, man, does he have to move? 00:07:04 Speaker 1: You gotta move? No, he should have already. I mean I would have walked out of Lambeau or excuse me, alto Soldier Field, would have gone on the Chicago flight or my team flight Packers flight. Get my team's confused here, mc manus. I would have gone straight to it Uber and started a new life somewhere else and forgotten all about. 00:07:20 Speaker 2: Being a member of the Green Bay Packers. It would haunt me a little bit if I were the Packers. Of the little things that could have gone differently, that would have just ended the game. 00:07:27 Speaker 1: First of all, go back to the field goal at the end of the first half. 00:07:31 Speaker 2: You know, people forgetting missed that one, right, like that was a that was a huge momentum thing, but it was a little bit of one. Obviously, the extra point would have made him only need a field goal instead of touchdown. But even there was the one play where it was on the fourth and eight before that throw, it was fourth and three and it was it was a. 00:07:52 Speaker 1: False start, but the snap was over his head. So if they hadn't called the false start, the game would have probably been over. So the false start actually saved the Bears there like little things like that. If I were a Packers fan, Drew would absolutely haunt me that. And even on the final play of the game. You got one shot, they fumbled the snap and he's like picking that up, scrambled around. 00:08:12 Speaker 2: I mean, I thought that was gonna be like there was a way to lot. There was a moment where I was. 00:08:19 Speaker 1: Yeah, but that was just it was just error after error, self inflicted stuff. I think the crowd played a big part, especially in that delay of game, but Packers couldn't have dropped the ball any better. And for the Bears, my goodness, this what is that the seventh come I mean I lost count how many come back last year. It's like, just don't even play the first half. If I saw a. 00:08:36 Speaker 2: Social media post that had like the scoreboard in time in like five different games this year and said, the Bears won all of these games, you know where they was like down ten with two minutes to go, all this stuff. That Bengals game was one of them, both Packers games. It's really been a magical thing now, which brings me to the third thing you mentioned. 00:08:56 Speaker 1: The crowd. The crowd was unbelievable. How did that guy get a cheese grater in? I actually have that in my notes right in front of her. I have a question how we're so mini Bears fan. One one, it seemed like every time there was a crowd shot, not just the hats actual So I understand that one, but they got metal I don't understand. And then jaus variations of cheese. I saw saw parmesan. 00:09:21 Speaker 2: So that means multiple people on their own decided I'm going to take a block of cheese to this game. 00:09:28 Speaker 1: Multiple people did that, like just took big hunks of cheese, I guess in their bag. 00:09:34 Speaker 3: And we're like, if I get a moment, pull. 00:09:38 Speaker 1: The shredder out of my pull the shredder out and pull cheese, and I'm just gonna grate everywhere. Do you know the story of the hats? I love it. The guy was making cheesehead hats for Packers fans and he got a seasoned assist letter from the packers to stop selling Packers Pro Packers cheesehead stumping foam hats. So he's like, all right, I'll do cheese graters, and his sales have just been through the roof. So he just had this little bitty cheesehead company. He's told to stop selling them anything, flips on the packers and makes you can't even keep up with the orders, and there's nobody to tell him to stop. I mean that whole crowd seemed to have them on, the players have them on. I mean that guy turned took a little packers a cease and desist, and turned. 00:10:20 Speaker 3: Into America baby. 00:10:21 Speaker 1: Right, that's right. It's a great idea too, that is about getting the blades in. I thought we had metal detectors at these events. 00:10:27 Speaker 2: Well, I mean they make me like I had to throw away a pair of fingernail clippers once at a Reds game. Now you might ask, why were you taking fingernail clippers in a Reds game? You gotta do something between the innings, Let me take care of your nail, but I had to like just hand it over and uh. 00:10:43 Speaker 1: But yet a big cheese grader, no problem. I think had an electrical version too. I saw one actually plugged in and he was running it through like a big food process cheese grader too. Just stunning development. They were able to get those into Soldier field. I don't think Billy or Mario would know this reference. But do you do you remember Abdullah the Butcher, Yeah, a wrestler. 00:11:00 Speaker 3: The wrestler, yeah, you know. 00:11:01 Speaker 1: He he had a forehead where he took a lot of cuts to the forehead, like so you know, you're not really a wrestling person, but like when you when somebody bleeds, oftentimes they just take a little tiny razor blade and they cut the area right under their hairline. Okay, because you bleed. 00:11:18 Speaker 2: More like right here, you bleed more than you bleed anywhere on your body for doing any damage, and he doesn't do anything. 00:11:25 Speaker 1: But Abdul the Butcher did not have hair, so he had cut that so much that. 00:11:31 Speaker 2: It's really gross because it had all these scars. And he was a big fat guy and so he had all the skies, so he had a really ugly top of his head. Well towards the end of his career, when he kind of like he didn't have a lot of moves left, he would just have the wrestler he was wrestling use a cheese grater on his head. 00:11:51 Speaker 1: Oh really, yes, well this is I mean, this is a family show, so we could die. 00:11:58 Speaker 2: But I just kept thinking when I saw the cheese grater, I haven't seen the cheese grater used in public like this since Abdueah the Butcher. 00:12:05 Speaker 1: And it just shows how much this rivalry's flipped. As you got the confidences, just start greating cheese in your section, just cheese landing everywhere on the people in front of you. But Bears fans are so happy to be in this position, and I'm happy for you and all the people that saw the film. That really was the best atmosphere of any We saw. 00:12:20 Speaker 2: This one of those games where you would say, like, if you're a Bears fan and you were there, that's when you would talk about like your whole life. Now. 00:12:28 Speaker 1: The fourth thing is is Ben Johnson. 00:12:33 Speaker 2: When he was hired as the Bears coach, he said in the press conference, I like beating Matt Lafleur, didn't initially say green Bay said. 00:12:41 Speaker 1: Matt Lafleur called him out by name, called him by name, said, I like beating him twice every year, because Detroit had beating him twice like three the last four years. 00:12:50 Speaker 3: Now they do it again two out of three times this year. 00:12:55 Speaker 2: The blow by handshake was a blow by, great blowby. Here was, I mean, one of the all time blowbys. And it looked like Lafleur wanted to have a moment and Ben Johnson was like, oh, no, moment's. 00:13:05 Speaker 1: Coming, I'm blowing Bay. He was even leaning the other direction before he sucked the handout. He had a foot out to the left to go the other way. 00:13:12 Speaker 2: And then in the locker room he says, blank the Packers, I bleep and hate the Packers several times. 00:13:20 Speaker 3: Fair or foul. 00:13:23 Speaker 1: I'm gonna say fair. You just won a big game against the Packers. They got your number. I mean, I wouldn't say it in the press conference, or I wouldn't say it like an event with fans and kids around, but at that moment you would say it the word the whole world. So it was a linked video, right, I think it was. The Bears put it out the Bears media team. 00:13:42 Speaker 3: I'm cool with it. I'm cool with it. 00:13:44 Speaker 1: Yeah, I supposed to a rivalry like that, and the Bears have had it so bad for so long. Let them have their fun. 00:13:50 Speaker 2: I think what I like about it is in pro sports, because guys switched teams so much, it doesn't feel like people hate each other in pro sports a lot. Like think about it when twenty years ago it felt like the Yankees and the Red Sox hate each other. But now they've had a bunch of guys play on both teams. Some legends have gone, have gone back and forth, so like that's not really a thing anymore, you know. 00:14:14 Speaker 1: I mean, we've talked all about the Ravens and Steelers. They seem to dislike each other, but then now they've had guys switch teams, everybody's just jersey swapping. I like that the Bears and the Packers, at least the coaches may legitimately hate each other. You see that in hockey. It'll happen in hockey, like the La Kings and the Edmonton Oilers really hate each other, and there are guys in hockey tend to stay on the Stames team longer. So but I like seeing that in the NFL, and I can't think many examples in pro sports. You know, they'll say I hate our rival, but to just call the other coach by name. I enjoyed beating him specifically, like I don't every him. I want to just continue to beat him. 00:14:54 Speaker 2: Now, at the moment of this taping, Matt be Flore has not been fired yet. They say they're gonna meet tomorrow. They can't bring him back, though, can they. I mean, like, presumably they were going to bring him back even if he lost, but I think he lost in a way that almost makes you have to. 00:15:11 Speaker 1: Fire him, right, And didn't they lose like the last five, I mean several games in the years. I know the Micah Parsons injury hurts them. That was big for the defense, But yeah, I mean, you can't to be a favorite like that, not even win the division, and to go out the way they did to the Bears, blowing a lead. I mean, Jordan Love had three first half touchdowns. It was looking like it was going to be a blowout, yes, in that game, and they just completely folded by self inflicted wounds. He was twenty seven to sixteen with seven minutes to go. I mean, you got to find a way to win that game, right, Yeah, I think so. I mean, they should have won the division. Then you go up into Soldier Field and go up that big You had so many chances just to hang on, and now you're already home and he's, like I said, they've already been complaining about him a little bit anyway, for some other mistakes in past playoff games. So it seems it's sprunting out of time there, all right. 00:15:59 Speaker 2: So the Bears move on another crazy close win. They're gonna play the Rams. We'll preview it later in the week. But do you believe the Bears are legitim or are you just like they're a team of destiny. 00:16:12 Speaker 1: I lost all my bets this week multiple sports. Truly unbelievable from my gambling account. But I was big time on the Bears. I really believe in them. And you know, even when we were making plans about going to the Super Bowl, I'm like, probably going to see your Bears there. I really think that they have the they got the bojo. I think they can do it. 00:16:30 Speaker 2: I want it to be really cold when the Rams come, you know, because it's going to be in Chicago. Rams are indoor team LA, So you want it to be really really cold, really nasty. We're going to super Bowl. We found that out. We'll talk more about that probably later this week too. We're going to super Bowl and we're supposed to leave right before the super Bowl. 00:16:52 Speaker 1: Sorry, I like to watch from my couch anyway. 00:16:55 Speaker 3: The air rightly on the plane. 00:16:57 Speaker 2: But if the Bears make it, I'm going to stay, even if I have to like sleep at the game, because I mean, you have to even if they make it. 00:17:05 Speaker 1: The Tight were in position to go a few years ago, and I was like, if they're in that game, whatever it costs, you have to do it halfway. 00:17:13 Speaker 3: It costs a lot. 00:17:14 Speaker 1: Ultimate bucket list. I was ready. I went to Kansas City. I was in Nashville when the Bengals came in and ripped our hearts out. But like when your team is in it, especially when your team is the Bears or there haven't been in forty years and you don't know if that time will ever come again. Chicago looked like that could maybe have something here, but yes, you have to stick around if your team's in it. 00:17:32 Speaker 4: I think our guy said the ticket was twelve thousand dollars. Matt, would you would you pay that to watch? 00:17:38 Speaker 1: I mean no, but. 00:17:42 Speaker 3: I don't. I wouldn't pay twelve thousand dollars to go by myself. 00:17:46 Speaker 5: Well it's your team, so like, when would this ever happen again? 00:17:49 Speaker 1: Well, I mean it might happen next year. But I mean if I had, Like, if you said to me, you can get two tickets for twelve thousand dollars coupon, Yes, promo code covers zero fifty. 00:18:04 Speaker 6: I feel like if you wait to kick off, you can get it for a little cheaper, a little cheaper. But I would definitely I would at least want to be in the atmosphere for you know, you know, I saw those pictures from the bars in Chicago. 00:18:15 Speaker 2: Forget about the game, just the bars. They looked unbelievable. I mean, it looks so much fun. I mean, I'm genuinely thinking about, uh, if they making the NFC Championship game, going and watching it in Chicago, even if I don't go to the game, it's just it's just to be and something like that. I am genuinely thinking about doing that. 00:18:33 Speaker 1: Yeah, I know a lot of people have done that for other team. My brother in law is an Eagles fan. Instead of going to the super Bowl last year, he went to Philly just to be a part of the mayhem because if you can't be in there in a seat, and maybe sometimes it's even better you go to these cities and the super Bowl, it's well, I don't mean it's the NFL show. You want to go to the super Bowl, of course, but it is a very it can be a corporate crowd at those games, and especially when it's in San Francisco, a very you know, Silicon Valley, very sort of you know, you can make an argument in Chicago might be even wilder than the actually and that's where most of the fast So Lario and even though he traveled when we were at the Final four when Kentucky won the National Championship, New Orleans wouldn't trade it for anything. Best sports moment in my life. But at the same time, there was we would see the videos in lasting too. But there's a part of me was like, I bet lexingtonnis so fun right, I wouldn't trade but there was a part of me wondering what I was missing with about Parney City too. I mean, so so yeah, well it was a great win. 00:19:29 Speaker 2: You know, probably the it is the franchise's best win since the Super Bowl. And then, and I think part of what you said drew the promise of this might be the start of a long thing. I think that's part. And then what about Cole Lovelin the rookie tight end. They picked him over Tyler Warren. There's a video of the Packers radio people doing the draft mocking the Bears for picking this guy who then runs all over That was my touchdown pick. Can't go wrong with Warren or Loveland. They both had a great year, but he's been fantastic for the Bears. They got a lot of youth. 00:20:03 Speaker 1: That's why even with the head coach being first time, That's why it's whatever happens the rest of this playoff run, there's still gonna be a lot of excitement Chicago moving forward. 00:20:11 Speaker 2: They didn't lose their left tackle though during that game, which I do think is gonna be will have an impact on them in the next round. But if you're gonna lose your left tackle, Caleb Williams can move, so that's good. 00:20:21 Speaker 1: I was also happy for DJ Moore. I saw he hasn't had a winning season since twenty fourteen on any team he's been in Wow, been over a decade of playing highs got the ball and hadn't even had a winning season, not even a winning record. 00:20:33 Speaker 3: That's amazing, all right. 00:20:48 Speaker 1: So then the game before that was Rams and Panthers. Another great game. 00:20:53 Speaker 2: I thought the Panthers acquitted themselves well, but Matthew Stafford looked like an MVP when he had to go down the field and get a two minute drive for a touchdown. They go and do it. But the Rams are my Super Bowl pick. I'm still I'm hoping we beat him next week. But I'm still holding to that. And I think you saw that in that game. 00:21:15 Speaker 1: A stunning score you know has spread was ten and a half, eleven and twelve points at one point. I think a lot of people expected to blow out. So kudos to the Panthers. Another great atmosphere. I'm not putting it above Sali Field. Yeah, but another team fired up to be hosting a playoff game. But what you know, Stafford to Stafford, and I saw DeVante Adams said, with two minutes left, you picked up his helmet and went over to the offense and was like, let's go rip their hearts out. And he was like the way he said, it was so gangster like. It was just the most like stone cold killer, let's go do this. That they had no doubt that they were gonna finish. 00:21:45 Speaker 2: That I knew when they had that much time, I'm like, they're winning. But I thought Bryce Young played surprisingly really well. I mean, people have kind of gone back and forth on his Is Bryce Young a real? 00:21:57 Speaker 3: Is he real. 00:21:59 Speaker 2: NFL talented quarterback? And you know, you can make cases either way, but I think in the big moments he played really really well. 00:22:08 Speaker 1: Yeah, and they weren't the Bears, but they had a lot of comebacks this year led by him some big fourth quarter drives to go win games. So if I'm a Panthers fan, I'm excited about him. He's not, you know, I don't know he's ever gonna be that top tier where, you know, MVP caliber quarterback. But he proved to not give up on him and give him more time because he was a winner this year, even though it was the NFC South. 00:22:27 Speaker 2: Did you see, excuse me, how popular Cam Newton is in Charlotte. 00:22:33 Speaker 1: I love them, don't they? He was eating the drum, but like, man, they love him in Charlotte. Is that because of course he got him to the to the Super Bowl. But I mean they've had McCaffrey. 00:22:45 Speaker 2: But he leaves. 00:22:45 Speaker 1: They've had all the good players. They leave go to the teams. 00:22:47 Speaker 2: You know. 00:22:47 Speaker 3: He well, okay, he's the one. Yeah. 00:22:53 Speaker 1: I mean, if you sit there and say, okay, give me the most exciting panther of all time, Jake alone, Jake's alone. But Steve Smith. Okay, So Steve Smith's probably their greatest player. Mushia Mahu. Let me ask you a question. Do you know for certain what Steve Smith looks like? 00:23:09 Speaker 2: Oh? 00:23:09 Speaker 1: Yeah, Steve Smith. I don't think I could pick him out on the side. He's been on TV so well, not on a channel I'm watching. Is he in The Diplomat? Like it was the NFL Network? Good show. 00:23:19 Speaker 3: I'm enjoying The Diplomat. Have you ever seen The Diplomat? 00:23:22 Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah? Netflix? 00:23:24 Speaker 3: All right, So I'm halfway through season three, don't spoil it. 00:23:26 Speaker 1: Well, you're ahead of me. Then, so season one slow, like really slow, so slow. I'm like, I can't believe this got made. But then it picks up towards the end of the season. Then season two is just fire, but it starts to get absurd but absurd in a way. 00:23:45 Speaker 3: I'm really enjoyed. 00:23:46 Speaker 2: And then season three forget it, like they've just decided, let's just be wacky. What about Julius Peppers or any other Who is the Panthers all time top five? Newton Smith Peppers, Luke Keikley? 00:24:01 Speaker 1: Is it Keikley? 00:24:02 Speaker 3: Sorry, that's that's what you think? And who's the fifth? 00:24:05 Speaker 1: Thomas Davis? 00:24:08 Speaker 3: No? 00:24:09 Speaker 1: No, D'Angelo Williams. I like em. 00:24:13 Speaker 5: And Jonathan Stewart were Jonathan Stewart. 00:24:16 Speaker 3: That's a good one. 00:24:18 Speaker 1: Kevin Green boom, Kevin Green. Yes, former WCW Tag team champion keV. Actually why he came to mind was the wrestler came to mind. I'm like, oh, yeah, he was a Panther Kevin Green. Well, we've just given it all. Panthers list ain't Carolina Mike is on the list? Well, I thought the Panthers acquitted themselves. Well, then you start today Bills and Jaguars. A great game, Josh Allen, I'm not. I've got the Bills in the Super Bowl against the Rams. I'm even more confident in it now. 00:24:49 Speaker 3: You are not. 00:24:51 Speaker 2: You give me Josh Allen against another quarterback. I'm taking Josh Allen. 00:24:55 Speaker 1: He was awesome against to day and like a superhuman effort too. He just first half seemed like he was in the tenth over and over. I even know how many injuries he had, but it was a different one each trip. Hell the bushing touchdowns, including the one it was supposed to be a toush push and then he ends up taking it to the house on like a twenty yard quarterback sneak. He was just doing whatever he wanted after a slow first half. 00:25:16 Speaker 2: By the way, the Golden Globes just ended Best Drama Hamnitt. 00:25:23 Speaker 1: I haven't seen it. 00:25:24 Speaker 3: That's the one about the writing of Hamlet. 00:25:26 Speaker 1: Okay, first I heard it. You know, you know you don't know this story. 00:25:29 Speaker 3: William Shakespeare. 00:25:31 Speaker 2: You've heard of him, yep, Bill, he wrote a play Hamlet. Yes, yeah, I've heard of that. Yeah, I'm making sure you're followed me. Yeah, all right, So he wrote a play Hamlet. But did you know he had a son named Hamnet? Hamlet did or Shakespeare did Shakespeare? Okay, No, he had a son named Hamnett who died at the age of eleven, and then three or four years later he wrote Hamlet in Gaelic English Hamlet and Hamnet. 00:26:01 Speaker 3: Are the same. 00:26:02 Speaker 2: Wow, so people believe, although they don't know for sure, that Hamlet was based on his son Hamnet's death, and so this movie is about Shakespeare writing Hamlet and how his son's death was a big part of why he wrote. 00:26:21 Speaker 5: I made a movie about the writing of Hamlet. 00:26:24 Speaker 2: Yes, they did. And it stars the one dude. I don't know what's his name. He's handsome, Paul mess No, not Pedro, Pescal, Paul Meskal. He's in Sunburn. You've seen this guy. He's in everything anyway, he's in it all right. Well, you guys are really not up to date. 00:26:44 Speaker 1: I didn't know these made movies these days that weren't Marvel or Avatar or something flying around in Yeah, Mescal. 00:26:53 Speaker 2: Anyway, we'll check it out and then one battle after another. One best comedy, I've seen it. 00:27:01 Speaker 1: Not a comedy too. Why is it a comedy? It won Best Comedy or Musical. It's also not a musical. I downloaded that to watch on the plane. It was longer than my flight. 00:27:10 Speaker 3: Have you seen it? 00:27:11 Speaker 1: Parts of it? It's really good, but it's not a comedy, not at all. That you threw me off when you said it won best you win Best Comedy. I feel like this happens at the Golden Globes almost every year. 00:27:19 Speaker 2: Earlier they can comedy called the Bear a comedy, It's never been funny. 00:27:23 Speaker 1: That's the example. I knew. I knew there was a recent win. I'm like, why is this a comedy? But one bat after another is not a comedy. 00:27:29 Speaker 3: In the least. 00:27:31 Speaker 1: No, not not even a little bit. Huh. How did Nicky Glazer do? She was the host trade I was watching football. She had it. 00:27:38 Speaker 2: She had a good joke. I'm trying to remember what it was. Well, I forget she she did have I thought she I watched her minlog. 00:27:43 Speaker 3: I thought it was pretty fun. 00:27:44 Speaker 1: We'll catch the heighlights. She does a good job. I'm a fan, big get for her being most of that. 00:27:49 Speaker 2: Yeah, although she could be any eight, I don't have no idea how think she's. 00:27:53 Speaker 1: Been around a while. 00:27:54 Speaker 4: She killed it at that Tom Brady roast, so she's kind Yeah that was kind of when she's a good mean comic. 00:27:58 Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, so what we're talking about Josh Allen Steve gonna say. Haley Stanfield, his wife, was there. We go. 00:28:07 Speaker 2: She was nominated for Sinner Centers, but she was nominated. People wanted her in Jacksonville, support her hubby. They wanted to skip the Golden Globes to go to Jacksonville and. 00:28:16 Speaker 1: Go watch Josh run all over jackson go to the hot tub, Hayley. 00:28:21 Speaker 3: That's a little lot. 00:28:21 Speaker 2: People that wanted Braxton Barrios to skip the game to go to Dancing with the Stars. 00:28:26 Speaker 1: Come on, people got work to Big night for the Allens though, yeah, big night. 00:28:30 Speaker 3: She didn't win though. Anyway. Josh Allen was great. 00:28:33 Speaker 2: He was uh. Trevor Lawrence played well, but then on the last drive throws an interception and you see who's better. 00:28:41 Speaker 3: Than the other one? 00:28:42 Speaker 1: Yep, two interceptions marked the end. There was a moment in the game. I was very worried. You know, longtime Cover zero listeners know our trip to Buffalo and our good friend Ray Davis. I was very worried about Ray Davis's fumble the. 00:28:53 Speaker 3: First team all NFL. 00:28:54 Speaker 1: But we had just bragged on Wednesday about how good he was, and I was worried about a Cover zero curse developing. But the defense held stronger. 00:29:02 Speaker 2: I my ESPN show this morning, my ESPN lock of the day was that Ray Davis is going to run a touchdown back got a kickoff, and Myron had never even heard of Ray Davis, and so of course the moment he fumbled, text me and goes, well, that was a good pick and Ray looks so crushed. 00:29:21 Speaker 1: They were doing this. Let's show this guy on the sideline. Let's see it gets another chance. Yeah, he gets no chance. Defense bailed him out and zero points off the turnover. He was all right, but in the moment, I was very. 00:29:31 Speaker 3: Worried about her. 00:29:32 Speaker 2: Boy, what did you think about the reporter after the game who tried to make Liam Cohen feel bad? 00:29:40 Speaker 1: She basically said. 00:29:41 Speaker 2: Something like, son, you keep your head up, you move those shoulders back. 00:29:49 Speaker 3: I'm proud of you. 00:29:50 Speaker 2: She sounded so sweet. She sounded like the nicest woman in the world. But she's getting crushed on the internet. If you want a symbol of why our society's falling apart, nicest woman in the world gets. 00:30:01 Speaker 1: Crushed for being nice. I wish that I had that woman's number, where if I had a bed, I could just call her and say, will you talk me through this? Because she had the sweetest voice, and her message to Liam Cohen was so sweet, so nice, and the Internet's being so mean. 00:30:15 Speaker 3: People so mean? 00:30:15 Speaker 1: Like, okay, technically, is that what a journalist is supposed to do? No? 00:30:22 Speaker 3: Probably not. 00:30:23 Speaker 2: I mean, Drew did one time say to Mark Pope he works like he did do that. 00:30:30 Speaker 1: But sometimes it's nice. Really, I was caught up in the moment. 00:30:33 Speaker 3: Oh wow, he called him Marxie Warksy. 00:30:36 Speaker 1: You know, I'm I hear with you. I hear the complaints that should be media. But it's also all right? That was thirty seconds? Did it? We all hurt? Anybody? Were good? 00:30:45 Speaker 3: Everybody? 00:30:45 Speaker 1: I haven't seen her picture, let's all move on. 00:30:47 Speaker 2: I don't know her age, but she feels like she would cook good food at a homecoming at a church. Oh. 00:30:55 Speaker 1: The internet was like can you imagine? Can you imagine how good her cast roles are? And I don't like people being mean to her. There are things that happened in press converces like all right, this is not hard hitting journalism at the moment, but what if just be nice though, Like she's a nice lady. 00:31:12 Speaker 4: Even is she a reporter or did she Jacksonville Press? She writes for a Jacksonville publication, which one Jacksonville Free Press. 00:31:20 Speaker 1: Is I believe what I remember hearing. But what is that I don't I'm not sure. 00:31:25 Speaker 3: Okay, I don't care. I like her. 00:31:28 Speaker 1: They didn't hurt anybody. There's a person who's been covering the University of Kentucky games since I've been doing it, who I don't believe has ever written a story for any entity. 00:31:39 Speaker 3: Okay, I'm not kidding you, and I'm not trying. 00:31:43 Speaker 2: He's a wonderful part, but I have never seen any actual outlet to produce anything he's done. 00:31:51 Speaker 1: But he's nice time. He always sits in the front row. He has a cookie. He seems to really like the red chocolate chip cookies when they have him. Why can't everybody have one of those? And if she wants to tell Liam Cohen to keep his head up, what's wrong with that? Pleay with you? He's okay. I hope she's not taking all this criticism to heart. Imagine hearing that the message in the voice and thinking, you know what, I'm gonna type off a tweet hating on that one. 00:32:18 Speaker 2: I agree, And you could tell Liam Cohen was touched. He was You could actually literally see him like being. 00:32:24 Speaker 1: In a world full of hate. Billy, Why can't we be nice. Yeah, I was gonna be that guy tonight. You were gonna be that guy. I knew you would because that's you. Yeah. See, look at her. Found a picture and Billy's right. It was the the Jacksonville. 00:32:40 Speaker 3: Look how sweet she looks. 00:32:42 Speaker 1: And Okay, you're Liam Cohen, You're crushed, You're you're down, you just lost a home game. Season's over. 00:32:47 Speaker 3: Nice top. 00:32:48 Speaker 1: Would you rather reporter be like, oh, what did you think about the play of the safeties tonight? Or would you rather get that message? You'd rather get that? Go give your little pessimistic I'm a journalist. 00:32:57 Speaker 5: No, no, I'm Actually here's the thing. You've already got people in the letterman, jackets, the team reporters there that are biased in asking questions and say talk about this. 00:33:07 Speaker 4: I mean, journalistic integrity is already dead. So come on, let's just say nice things every once in a while. Besides Rick Stroud's he's still the journalist out there. 00:33:17 Speaker 1: Who's Rick Stroud, the Bucks reporter, the guy you got really excited about. 00:33:24 Speaker 2: He was the only person there before us. Yeah, well, I'm for it. I'm for it, and I like that lady, and I hope she brightened. Liam Cohen's day. 00:33:35 Speaker 1: Do you think this is the start of Jacksonville being regularly like in this position or Trevor Lawren's not good enough? Man? He was awesome at the end of the year. I know today with the two interceptions led down, but the last month and a half of the season he was pretty incredible and it helps that division on Houston defensive lead. But you got a few built in wins with my team. I think Jacksonville can. I can still have something moving forward. The great first year for Cohen obviously, and then you you have a top pick that barely even played. We still don know what you're gonna get out of him. Is he still on the team. Yeah, he was injured all you But I mean to have a turnaround, It's true, Like you don't hear that guy talking about it all to have a turnaround like that without even using your top draft pick, go from four wins to what they did as a heck of a year. 00:34:15 Speaker 3: Yeah, great defensive line, so a. 00:34:18 Speaker 1: Little little more star power, a little more punch. 00:34:21 Speaker 3: Yeah, well they probably I don't know. I feel like they're pretty good. 00:34:24 Speaker 2: I mean, they were great this year, but just you know, made those two interceptions at the end, then you get forty nine Ers Eagles. I feel like the Eagles fans were waiting for today all year, just waiting to lose to prove they were correct. Sometimes fan bases can get like that, they're so mad at their team that they're almost like hoping they will be right that the team is not good. I got that sense today just I mean, the makeup of the year plays out this game. They just don't have enough. And then if you have a J. Brown, what do you think of the Sirian Well, let's first of all, the game forty nine Ers win, George Kittle gets hurt, they lose another person. 00:35:17 Speaker 3: They just spined a way to keep winning. 00:35:18 Speaker 1: Insane what the forty nine ers have gone through. I mean tonight with Kittle, but then tanj just comes in makes a big catch right after Kittle goes down. But all year the receiver room has been banged up. They've had this for a couple of years. At the end of the linebackers' names escaping me the breaks up the past. He was signed to the practice squad in like November. There, Yeah, Kendricks, thank you. They're just throwing people together. And now they're on to the second win to the weekend of the playoffs. Incredible job by Shanahan and then not Robert Sala. They showed him so much on TV. There's never been a coordinator shown on TV more than him. But he earned it with how that defense is played. Again, it's handsome privilege. 00:35:54 Speaker 3: It is true. 00:35:54 Speaker 1: He gets a handsome he gets handsome. When you have handsome privilege, they will put you on TV. They show Sala all the time, all the time, and they showed him more than Shanahan. I kept thinking that as the game was ending, like a coordinator has never gotten this much attention. 00:36:08 Speaker 2: They love him and but he's clearly a good court maybe not a good coach, although the Jets are worse without him than they were. 00:36:15 Speaker 1: He's on the Titans lesson. I wouldn't hate it compared to some of the names. Really yeah, I'd take it like he'd be a perfect Titans coach. I'd take him. 00:36:20 Speaker 3: He'd go six and eleven. 00:36:22 Speaker 1: It's fine. It's an upgrade some of the names. 00:36:25 Speaker 2: Brott Perdy gets it done and then but when it comes down to it, just don't have enough. Now, AJ Brown, what do you think of the Sirianni? AJ Brown? Then Aj refused to talk to the media when it was over. Sirianni said, we're like brothers. I kind of don't know if that's true, But what do you think? 00:36:41 Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I saw a tweet that he like hugged his teammates and abruptly just left the locker room. 00:36:45 Speaker 3: He'll never play for them again. 00:36:46 Speaker 1: It does not look like it. I mean the bad drop on third downs, that was a terrible drop, Like for a guy who swined all year, that was a major play. And you're an All Pro receiver you catch that every time. I mean, you're not some rookie that's the moment's too big. You're Aj Brown. That's supposed to be an automatic catch, and you're paid for that to be an automatic catch. Yeah, I will say, though, I'm big on they had and shouldn't taken that last week off. You've got dropped the routine, catches, hurt play Green Bay herts, missed the throw he should have had there at the end, it throws it high. You've got your kicker missing kicks. I really don't think it's crazy that week off. They look a little rusty, some little just fundamental mistakes here and there. Maybe in the half before they took the week off. Was that horrible half of Buffalo where they played so bad. I really think there's something to them not figuring out in that last week and played a little more football. 00:37:33 Speaker 2: I also think you would rather have played Green Bay just as a practical matter, you'd rather have played Green Bay than play San Francisco. 00:37:40 Speaker 1: Yeah, that forty nine Ers Seahawks Rams division was now all three of those teams. 00:37:45 Speaker 2: Forty nine Seahawks will play for the third time. That's another Those first two were both good, so now you have another like trilogy that's gonna end up playing. I mean that is that's that's a powerhouse game, and I think they each won on the other's field. 00:38:00 Speaker 1: For the Seahawks, it was their last game. They just played the forty nine Ers because Darnold walked off the field said see in two weeks to party padded him on the chest. 00:38:09 Speaker 3: Oh that's right, I forgot it. 00:38:10 Speaker 5: And that Juwan Jennings throw a CMC reverse touchdown throw. 00:38:15 Speaker 1: It was great. That was a great call. 00:38:17 Speaker 2: I felt like a lot of times when the people tried to do trickeration, it didn't work this weekend, but it did work on that one, which was. 00:38:22 Speaker 1: A big one that it's just the Eagles offense just embarrassing stuff there at the end Hurts when they have one chance, fourth and nine. When Hurts throws it, it looked like there were six forty nine Ers players in the shot and no Eagles, like, we are you throwing it into in traffic here? 00:38:36 Speaker 2: They just they just all they've looked so unhappy all year. So it almost feels like they got put out of their misery. 00:38:43 Speaker 1: And it's crazy, Siriannie. I don't know if you get fired. He just won a Super Bowl and they were very upset with him. Right now. You can't fire it. I know you can't fire him, but there for a guy that has a ring on his finger that's not even a year old, I mean, they're unhappy with him, and how that offense looked this year with so much star power. 00:38:57 Speaker 4: He just seems like the players don't like him. Like when aj Brown dropped that pass, he ran down the field to let him know about it. 00:39:04 Speaker 2: Well, now he claims he ran down the field to tell him to get off so they could punt. 00:39:09 Speaker 1: Agreed, big Dom had to jump in. I don't know big Dom would have to jump in. They had to be yelling at each other all year. But he said I ran down because he was arguing and he wasn't getting off the field for the punt. 00:39:20 Speaker 5: Okay, I bet you there were some undertone. 00:39:22 Speaker 3: I don't believe him, but I'm just telling you you don't. 00:39:24 Speaker 2: I remember his opening press conference, and now then he won a super Bowl, so I felt like, well, you know, you got to give him credit. 00:39:32 Speaker 1: Well, they their roster that they have is a super Bowl roster and to lose it home in the first round after the fizzled out in the regular season is a huge disappointment. 00:39:40 Speaker 4: And Sirianni has the second most wins all time in the first five years of coach in the playoffs? 00:39:46 Speaker 1: Is that right? So to fire him would be probably they won't fire it Harball, And then they did, and Mike me Daniel, they waited three or four days to uh to look like they were keep if we talked all that earlier in the year, don't fire him. Then he actually wins some games and finished is strong, and then they do fire. 00:40:03 Speaker 2: And then they do fire. So which one by the time we which one do you think John Harball is gonna get? Which job by the time we come on again he may have one, which one. 00:40:11 Speaker 1: I know I've seen. He's doing his homework watching clips of all the quarterbacks. 00:40:15 Speaker 2: I found him. I go to the Giants and try that about Baltimore. I mean, I'm sorry, yeah, I thought you're asking there again. Yeah, maybe makes you go back to Baltimore. Sorry, John Harball. Giants of the jobs, though, what's the what's the better job Baltimore Giants? 00:40:34 Speaker 1: If you're if you're like the Giants, it just Lamar doesn't have that much left. 00:40:38 Speaker 3: See that's what that would be my take. 00:40:40 Speaker 1: I mean, Derek Henry on them was left there. 00:40:42 Speaker 2: They have a lot of take was he got a lot of more long term upside with the Giants. 00:40:46 Speaker 1: In New York. It's the Giants the tradition. 00:40:48 Speaker 2: I will say, though, if if get tried, the Packers is a pretty good. 00:40:51 Speaker 1: Job, Oh definitely that would. 00:40:53 Speaker 3: Would you put that ahead of the Giants? 00:40:57 Speaker 1: Maybe because Love maybe little, I mean, Dark's exciting. We still don't truly know what Dart is. Love looks like a quarterback that you know, Love's good. Parsons is on your defense, Yeah, I think that actually been. 00:41:10 Speaker 2: But you are in a division with the Bears and the Lions. 00:41:13 Speaker 1: Higher expectations, have much higher expectations. The Giants would be happy. They've been good in long time, so they'd be pretty happy about it. 00:41:20 Speaker 3: But there you go. 00:41:22 Speaker 1: And I was very surprised the Ravens let him go. That happened after our Wednesday show, like right after. I was shocked by that. 00:41:27 Speaker 3: I was I was shocked. If they were going to do it, why didn't you? I mean, like what were you waiting? 00:41:30 Speaker 2: Yeah? Then there twenty years, Like what were you going to learn in two or three days? Like, if he's not going to coach? 00:41:35 Speaker 4: That was an important kick. Do you think they would have fired Tomlin if he would have made that kick? 00:41:40 Speaker 3: I mean. 00:41:42 Speaker 2: A really great point, Billy, because that kick nothing to do with Harball or Tomlin's ability. But if he makes the kick, Harball stays, Tomlin goes, he misses it, Tomlin stays, Harball goes. That makes both of those decisions seem so arbitrary because what happened had nothing to do with it. 00:42:03 Speaker 1: Really, Now you have to really legend where they are. I've been there over a decade and you have a twenty two year old kicker deciding what should happen. 00:42:12 Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Patriots Chargers was miserable. I'm gonna make a motion. I need a co sponsor. 00:42:22 Speaker 1: Okay, Chargers should not be allowed to play in the playoffs again at all. 00:42:28 Speaker 2: I mean, justin I've watched this game. I feel like I've watched it ten times. I don't even know how many times they've made the playoffs, but I feel like I've watched them lose a pitiful performance in the playoffs with Justin Herbert many years. 00:42:42 Speaker 1: No matter the coach. 00:42:43 Speaker 2: At this point, yeah, I just I don't think they should be allowed to be in the playoffs anymore. 00:42:47 Speaker 1: And this was just a repeat of all the Chargers losses this year. He just got. 00:42:50 Speaker 3: Absolutely up on offensive line. Who for them? 00:42:56 Speaker 1: They've had a lot of injuries. 00:42:57 Speaker 2: I mean, I'm a Mario guy here on time, I assumed he was playing for him, like they just they're awful. 00:43:02 Speaker 1: I think they ended up with six sacks. He was just getting rocked at every turn, running for his life. He never stood a chance. Three points. Pretty disappointing though, to your point about not letting the Chargers in, Yeah, you can do a little better than three. 00:43:13 Speaker 2: But he didn't really answer my questions about the Patriots either, because you know they dominated on defense, but I don't know. So you know, they'll get either the Texans or the Steelers. I think what's funny is I think they'll probably win that game, and I still don't know if they're good. Yeah, I mean to have a team with that record, an MVP candidate and score one touchdown in a game like this was disappointing on their end too, But their defense was outstanding. Their defense was outstanding. It was but that was that was, that was our payback for four games being good. Really didn't get to hear Chris Collinsworth moan very much. He made a few noises. 00:43:49 Speaker 1: I heard him. It's like he didn't have a very good game though, so like he didn't have a game where he could moan. You know, do you think he was jealous of all the other games? Like, man, I could be moaning so much right now, and here it was because his season up. Yeah, it's six to three at halftime. He's just looking out the window thinking about all the moans he left. Couldn't have done all the moones a cloud over head? Do you have YouTube TV? I do? 00:44:11 Speaker 2: Okay, So I don't know if they've always done this, but now when you if you're watching you to TV and you turn it off when you come back. 00:44:20 Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, it just leaves you right where you are. 00:44:25 Speaker 1: It's gotten me many times. 00:44:26 Speaker 2: It still gets me. I was twenty minutes behind that game tonight. It sounds like this show's gonna start so late. Is that an option you have turned off? Which game did Pam Oliver have? Was it the Panthers? It was the Panthers on Saturday. Pam Oliver is talking, it's like the second quarter, and then I realized I'm watching the pregame show. 00:44:52 Speaker 1: I left the room or changed rooms or something, and she says something like, I think so and so is going to play today. I'm like, what do you mean? It is seven to threes and it will do it like twenty four hours before. 00:45:01 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:45:02 Speaker 2: So, Like I this morning got up and I turned it on and I'm like, are they showing the replay of Fresno State UNLV? 00:45:11 Speaker 1: Was it that good a basketball game? I don't like that future. We gotta get that fixed. I fall forward every time I get it on Twitter and the score is completely different than what I'm watching. 00:45:20 Speaker 3: Yeah, it throws me off. 00:45:35 Speaker 2: So they have let's see, do we have an updated NFL playoff schedule. 00:45:40 Speaker 3: So have they released who win? Everyone's playing here. 00:45:45 Speaker 1: I don't know if we have win, but we have the matchups I believe well. 00:45:49 Speaker 2: But I mean I knew that. They haven't said when yet. I guess it depends on who winds these games coming up. No, here we go, Bill's Broncos four point thirty or eight. Saturday Texans Patriots. That'll be Sunday Seahawks. Our Saturday Rams Bears will be a Sunday game. Exciting stuff. I also had Parker Washington that was a big one, a surprise, and Christian McCaffrey. You had Kien Williams, Josh Allen and uh DeAndre Swift. 00:47:44 Speaker 5: Swift, so we both had three. We were tied at eight in the touchdown game. 00:47:47 Speaker 3: Where we've done well. 00:47:48 Speaker 1: I had Cowen Williams, you did I had Karen.
