I perked up when he said Brown's best player is called the Ivy League Iverson, which Drew I think is a really funny nickname. Ivy League Iverson averaging twenty points a game. What can you tell us about him? Besides the great nickname, I can.

Speaker 6: Tell you a lot about him. I've written two posts about him already. You should go read them. His name's Keen o' lilly. He is Brown's all time leading three point shooter. He hits four a game this season, so he's gonna hit tonight. That's what I'm little worried about. I mean, he can score. He's only six foot tall. He's when you look up the leading scorers in college basketball, he's top twenty, but he's the shortest by far. He's a guy that just goes out and gets buckets. He gets a lot of his threes coming off an off ball screen, just a quick shot going in. He's already hit a buzzer beater that way to win a game this year when they were down two. But he is just an absolute bucket for them. He's if Brown's gonna cause Kentucky any problems, it'll be because IVY League iverson goes off.

Speaker 3: Yeah, so Brown has beaten Rhode Island, which you may be like, well, who cares about that, But Rhode Island, I think, only has one loss so far this year, and it is too Brown. They are in the same state, so that's like kind of a it's almost the equivalent of like State beating Kentucky or something like that. They talk went to overtime, they beat They played Kansas, played them pretty well for a half, and then Kansas kind of blew them out. What's interesting about their team they don't have any player on their team taller than six eight, but they're twelfth in the country and block shots, So even though they're a team that's.

Speaker 5: Yeah, and we expect you're gonna you know, the blueprint has been set. You know, how to guard to Kentucky, push them out, get them outside as far out as possible, be physical with the big guys, and kind of mess up with their minds a little bit.

Speaker 3: I wonder I'm interested to I have not watched them. How a team can be top twelve in the country in block shots and have no one six ' eight it's taller than six to eight. That's really strange, just to even think how that would happen.

Speaker 6: Yeah, at the four and the five, they're both six to six and they're one and two in the IVY League and blocks and then maybe even top twenty five nationally. It's very odd. And I mentioned this yesterday. But defensively, they don't give up many threes. They really extended on you. They're thirteenth in the country and holding teams to percentage of three pointers vers their twos. They make you shoot a lot of twos, even when you take threes. They hold you to a pretty good percentage.

Extend their defense out stop you from shooting threes, block shots, shoot threes themselves. You know, I'm not worried about losing this game, but Ryan, I think it'll be interesting. Like Pope says, they've spent I mean, they took a few days off for Christmas, but have spent a week trying.

So, I know it's pretty early to look ahead to next year, but I think it's pretty apparent that Mark Pope is able to coach the veteran talent. The veteran talent we have on this team. I'm curious next year when we have maybe those guys who might be like you talked about the guy we can give the basketball and you go get a bucket in times when we need it. I'm curious how you think he's gonna be able to coach that freshman we have coming in and if you think made we lose some of the games week won and maybe yeah, you know, vice versa.

Do you think the way he coaches, I think he coaches sort of in an intellectual way. He assumes that his players are adults. He treats them, gives them responsibility. Do you think that will work with freshmen when we have more of those in the coming years.

Speaker 6: I think so, because the ones that have committed so far, I mean, they're seeing it in their conversations talking to him. They all talk about how he's just such a unique dude. So I'd say by committing, they're already kind of expecting more of that with the current team. I want to disrepect him because I love them, But we still got to remember this was Mark Pope's thrown together in a month, didn't have much time to go shopping. Pope's already got guys in mind, at least just on paper for next season, and we're gonna have an even better roster with the system he has now. As good as these guys are and fit a lot of the pieces for what he likes, he's gonna have much more time to find the pieces for next season.

But he hasn't just disappeared to the corner and done his rehab. He's doing everything he can to help the guys.

Speaker 3: I think one of the things that's been surprising to me is what a drop off it has been between our starters and our next five. I mean, I think I thought in the preseason, not necessarily that they would be interchangeable, but that you wouldn't see a huge drop off. But in the last few games, the drop off, I mean, we're getting into a sense like in the NBA, after like six or eight minutes they put the second team in. Pope's doing that, and I think he's gonna have to stop. Because if you go back to the Ohio State in the Louisville game and even the Western game, we've like gone on They've gone on a ten to oher run as soon as we put that second unit in, I think he's gonna have to stagger him. I don't think he's gonna be able to Ryan continue to go with the whole second unit because it's been I mean that's when we were up six on Ohio State and we were down eight really quick after it, like we just can't do it.
