Revisiting Lucha Underground Season 1 - The Debut Episode, Prince Puma vs Johnny Mundo, $100,000 Up For Grabs

DEADLOCK: A Pro Wrestling Podcast

Welcome to LUCHA UNDERGROUND! The year is 2014, and a brand new wrestling company has popped up on a network that hasn't had wrestling before, the El Rey Network. Lucha Underground gave us a different look at how television wrestling can be produced, and this first episodes gives us an early idea on the direction they were looking to go. Dario Cueto is the man in charge, a promoter that has opened up his 'Temple' to luchadores from all around the world. In this first episode, he has $100,000 on the line to the best fighter of the night. Little did we know, he has other plans in mind for that money. The main event of this debut episode is Prince Puma (Ricochet) taking on Johnny Mundo (John Morrison). Also on this show, Chavo Guerrero Jr. takes on Blue Demon Jr., and we get our first look at some Lucha Underground mainstays like Son of Havoc & Sexy Star. All of that, and so much more, on this week's DEADLOCK Podcast!

<v Speaker 1>D Boys. Welcome to the Deadline Podcast, episode number three
<v Speaker 1>hundred and thirty three, three three three, twenty thirty three.
<v Speaker 1>Today we are talking about Lusha Underground, Season one, Episode one,
<v Speaker 1>first time ever.
<v Speaker 2>Debut episode of Lucha Underground. Highly requested, I think for
<v Speaker 2>years now, James the people. Yeah, I've been wanting us
<v Speaker 2>to do the Lucha Underground and we are tapping into it.
<v Speaker 2>I watched this when I debuted. James dipped a toe
<v Speaker 2>in and then very quickly we'll talk about that, why
<v Speaker 2>and everything surrounding the first episode of Lucha Underground. On
<v Speaker 2>this very episode.
<v Speaker 1>Before we get into that, we have the Deadlock updates.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yes, updates here the Deadlock. Oh here's an update
<v Speaker 2>for you. Last week on the pod, we did a retro.
<v Speaker 2>It was the go home show for In Your House
<v Speaker 2>Burial Live ninety six. It was really good. I had
<v Speaker 2>a really good time on it. Uh something something must
<v Speaker 2>have happened last week where nobody saw it. So you
<v Speaker 2>should go listen to that because it was good.
<v Speaker 1>You would enjoy it.
<v Speaker 2>Very well done. We had a good time. So go
<v Speaker 2>listen to that and then get back to us and
<v Speaker 2>let us know what you thought. And then listen to
<v Speaker 2>this one too. Hey. Also just you know, wanted to
<v Speaker 2>throw this out here too, because I've I've mentioned it
<v Speaker 2>a few times and I started to thinking about it.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, oh, I don't want people starting to
<v Speaker 2>just fucking think maybe I'm fucking for real dying because
<v Speaker 2>I talked about being on medication and ship the other week.
<v Speaker 2>So I'm I've been sick for like the better part
<v Speaker 2>of two months now, which is like why some things
<v Speaker 2>have been delayed here and there, and you know, it's
<v Speaker 2>it's all come out obviously, but uh, you know it's
<v Speaker 2>it's it's been pretty hard, uh, just trying to keep
<v Speaker 2>up with shit here. And thankfully my buddy here, James,
<v Speaker 2>will fucking make whatever I need to work work and
<v Speaker 2>he's always there for me and make sure or that's
<v Speaker 2>you know, if I if I can get it done,
<v Speaker 2>I get it done as easy as possible. And uh,
<v Speaker 2>it's fucking a joy to work with somebody like that
<v Speaker 2>and have somebody like that in my life. So I
<v Speaker 2>appreciate you very much, Bud.
<v Speaker 1>But I would like you to get better.
<v Speaker 2>Dude, Okay, so that'd be awesome. So I again, I
<v Speaker 2>just to I just want to let you guys, know,
<v Speaker 2>because I feel like it's been a minute since I
<v Speaker 2>fucking have said anything like this. We talked about, you know,
<v Speaker 2>dead locking in. Well, I've been fucking lifed out. I
<v Speaker 2>was sick and then I was good, and then I
<v Speaker 2>got bronchitis which put me down for like two weeks.
<v Speaker 2>So like if I sounded like shit on the show,
<v Speaker 2>shout out Beefy for making me not sound like shit
<v Speaker 2>and taking out a ton of coughs uh. And then
<v Speaker 2>I was good, and now I have the fucking shingles,
<v Speaker 2>man like. And when they told me that, I thought
<v Speaker 2>they were like lying, Like I went to an urgent
<v Speaker 2>care because I fucking had mad left side of my
<v Speaker 2>fucking face pain like it just had it felt like
<v Speaker 2>a headache on my eyebrow. My eyebrow was sens have
<v Speaker 2>felt like shit. And I was like, okay, I'll get
<v Speaker 2>this go checked out. They said shingles. I said, no way.
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna take whatever they're gonna give me for a
<v Speaker 2>week and then I'm gonna find out really what I
<v Speaker 2>have when I go back to ask, hey, I'm still
<v Speaker 2>in pain. Uh yeah. It turns out super half shingles,
<v Speaker 2>which causes like a fucking rash on like one side
<v Speaker 2>of your face, which I'm glad I'm on a camera.
<v Speaker 2>I was able to get through last episode. Uh nerve
<v Speaker 2>stuff right, Yeah, yes, it's all nerve connected. So like
<v Speaker 2>along my eyebrow to my like my eye and my
<v Speaker 2>jaw on my ear has been unbelievably painful. I've been
<v Speaker 2>taking fucking like antibiotic pills and eye drops and now
<v Speaker 2>I'm on a steroid eye drop which makes my eye
<v Speaker 2>super sensitive to everything. Uh, which sucks so but but
<v Speaker 2>more getting to the good part of this, I'm okay,
<v Speaker 2>I'm alive. Everything is cool, and as you can see,
<v Speaker 2>we are still doing things as normal. But I want
<v Speaker 2>you all know, yeah, if some stuff is delayed here
<v Speaker 2>or there, it is my fault. And I apologize. I've
<v Speaker 2>just been dying. I've been dying and I can't stop dying.
<v Speaker 2>And hopefully this will be the end of it here
<v Speaker 2>soon and I'll be okay. But yeah, we're doing We're
<v Speaker 2>doing our best to keep up with everything we do here.
<v Speaker 2>James is doing his best to keep me alive. And
<v Speaker 2>and you know, James has had a adventurous fucking December
<v Speaker 2>that you know I won't make him go into but
<v Speaker 2>it has been pretty crazy December into January.
<v Speaker 1>But trying to send and you know, he'll get you, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, he keeps telling me that and then he's
<v Speaker 2>falling up with he'll kill you, which doesn't I don't
<v Speaker 2>want to do that. I don't want to die. Sure, well,
<v Speaker 2>thank you, I'm I'm for your sake, I won't take that, Like,
<v Speaker 2>what do you do? What do you do?
<v Speaker 1>If I'm going, I'll go back to work on the docks.
<v Speaker 2>I guess, well, you're stuck here for a little bit longer,
<v Speaker 2>but you're stuck here with all of so yeah, so
<v Speaker 2>that's uh, that's what's going on. So again, I appreciate
<v Speaker 2>any anybody that had reached out to with any concern,
<v Speaker 2>but I'm good. But that's that's what's going on. Hey,
<v Speaker 2>and better news now on the Pagereon pagerean dot com

<v Speaker 2>to watch for the month of January. And I've been
<v Speaker 2>seeing a lot of exciting things here and there, some
<v Speaker 2>not so exciting. Some I know James doesn't want to do,
<v Speaker 2>which I'll put on the list to try to wean
<v Speaker 2>my way in. But sometimes James does that to me
<v Speaker 2>as well. Uh So, you know, it's a it's a
<v Speaker 2>battle every month and we'll see with But that's in
<v Speaker 2>the ten dollars above tier. Also in the ten dollars

<v Speaker 2>This deck is stacked against Horace Hogan. Remember that legendary
<v Speaker 2>fucking show with Horace Hogan running down the ramp, So

<v Speaker 1>Let's talk about the Patriot Q and A. All right
<v Speaker 1>now it is time for the Patreon Q and A segment.
<v Speaker 2>Question and answers, Question and answers. Do you hear this guy?
<v Speaker 2>Is that like I was trying something new? How does
<v Speaker 2>that feel?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? No, that's cool man. You have the question, answers
<v Speaker 1>and the answers.
<v Speaker 2>That's what we get here. Yeah, yeah, I don't want
<v Speaker 2>to do it this week, so you do it.
<v Speaker 1>Short thing starting off here. First question we have here
<v Speaker 1>from the Patreon is from fuck Kevin Petullo's how you
<v Speaker 1>say that?
<v Speaker 2>That's yeah, that's yes. Really from now on i've heard both,
<v Speaker 2>so I actually, to be honest, I don't.
<v Speaker 3>Know, fuck Kevin Petullo and just fuck Kevin in general,
<v Speaker 3>like just seriously, man, seriously.
<v Speaker 1>We also Sirianni.
<v Speaker 2>That's okay. I mean maybe not as much he's you know,
<v Speaker 2>he's doing. You know, he got us to a lot
<v Speaker 2>of playoffs, like five of them. There was five of
<v Speaker 2>them he got him to.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I saw him arguing with a J Brown after
<v Speaker 1>he dropped every single pass that came his way that
<v Speaker 1>entire playoff game.
<v Speaker 2>I think a lot of people wanted to argue with A. J. Brown.
<v Speaker 2>I actually got right up to my TV and I
<v Speaker 2>started yelling at him.
<v Speaker 1>He saw Sirianni fucking running a forty yard dash down
<v Speaker 1>the sideline. He said, I'm joining in.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, man, I just started head button my fucking big
<v Speaker 2>screen TV and then singles.
<v Speaker 1>I started head butting my little screen TV.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you for Yeah. I was watching that game. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I know you were. It was frustrating a ship because
<v Speaker 2>you're a fucking you just jumped from team to team
<v Speaker 2>every fucking time, well every time it's somebody self in possession,
<v Speaker 2>you just jump back and forth. And it was fucking
<v Speaker 2>pissing me on.
<v Speaker 1>All right, Well here's the deal, uh. I like the
<v Speaker 1>forty nine Ers, you know, like I was a forty
<v Speaker 1>nine Ers fan growing up because my dad was a
<v Speaker 1>forty nine Ers fan growing up, because they grew up
<v Speaker 1>in a time where the Panthers weren't a team yet.
<v Speaker 1>So like that was like a deal.
<v Speaker 2>You know.
<v Speaker 1>Now I'm a Panthers fan because the Panthers exist, and
<v Speaker 1>when I was growing up, the Panthers were a thing, understanda.
<v Speaker 1>But I also love for the forty nine ers. I
<v Speaker 1>also rooted for the Eagles though.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but like it wasn't like it wasn't real, Like
<v Speaker 2>that was like there was something I wish I could remember.
<v Speaker 2>There was one thing he said that Like I put
<v Speaker 2>my phone down for like five minutes after because I
<v Speaker 2>was like, fuck this guy man, like he's telling me
<v Speaker 2>we're listening.
<v Speaker 1>Also, I have no idea what the question was. Next question,
<v Speaker 1>I don't Mimister asked if w c W had signed
<v Speaker 1>Amish Roadkill, how many episodes of Nitro would we currently
<v Speaker 1>be on.
<v Speaker 2>Well, so they had two hundred and eighty eight episodes.
<v Speaker 2>I think they would have if Amish Roadkill was signed,
<v Speaker 2>it would have ended at two hundred and fifty episodes.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I think what it really came down to,
<v Speaker 1>because they definitely offered him big money, was that Oh
<v Speaker 1>you know, yeah, I've known that for a while.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, sorry, this is well, you know, you give me
<v Speaker 2>the questions and the answers.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, well here's the deal with that man, Amish Roadkill.
<v Speaker 1>You know, he came up in the house of hardcore,
<v Speaker 1>so he was pretty much locked down you.
<v Speaker 2>Know, guy's got a lot of money from them, like
<v Speaker 2>Mikey went Bradko Yeah, historic bags.
<v Speaker 1>Oh not right, Yeah, Chris Chetty was offered a lot
<v Speaker 1>until he blew out his legs.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, that was a big deal back then. I
<v Speaker 2>can't well remember that road So Roadkill you're saying got
<v Speaker 2>a big This is like you're breaking some news here.
<v Speaker 2>Roadkill got a big money deal from w CW. Turned
<v Speaker 2>it down. Then East W and w CW both died
<v Speaker 2>and he just never got a job on TV. Again. Well,
<v Speaker 2>he did the heart attack in a dark match, right,
<v Speaker 2>which sacrilege.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, it sucks that every team ever in ww
<v Speaker 1>F history does the heart attack, I guess attack.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. So you're saying w c W would still be
<v Speaker 2>alive if Amish Roadkill was signed there.
<v Speaker 1>I'm I mean, look at it.
<v Speaker 2>I mean I think that uh I'm looking.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think TBS, T and T would be impressed
<v Speaker 1>by what w c W thinks to the table.
<v Speaker 2>It's just the entire merger wouldn't have happened.
<v Speaker 1>Brad Seger would say, wait, I have an idea.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, yeah, really that's like a tew thing waiting happened.
<v Speaker 2>Like I want to see that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean Amish roadkill leading a new segment of
<v Speaker 1>the nWo would have been pretty sweet. The Amished edi.
<v Speaker 2>If we were we're in w Amish.
<v Speaker 1>Pretty cool.
<v Speaker 2>I mean there's something, there's something to it, you know what.
<v Speaker 2>I'm I'm I might, I might be with you.
<v Speaker 1>Our next question comes from PS two humping the xbox.
<v Speaker 1>He says, I welcome the day with a show of light.
<v Speaker 1>I stealthily came here in the night. I bade the
<v Speaker 1>earthy stuff at dawn, but by noon, alas I'm gone.
<v Speaker 1>Who am I?
<v Speaker 2>Well?
<v Speaker 1>Thankfully this was answered by one of the other patrons,
<v Speaker 1>two tone Moonstone, who said, you're a Mark brother and
<v Speaker 1>that's there for that question.
<v Speaker 2>Damn wow, the fucking Q and a answer asked and
<v Speaker 2>answered on the pagetraon that might be a fund first.
<v Speaker 1>Next question here is from saying yeah, after every three
<v Speaker 1>syllable word, who do you think should bring the leather
<v Speaker 1>faced gimmick to American wrestling?
<v Speaker 2>Like, so it's already established that we all collectively think
<v Speaker 2>this is a good idea. Yeah, right right, okay, yes, hmmm,
<v Speaker 2>I'm thinking uh, I'm thinking King Barrett.
<v Speaker 1>What about ww's Fernando thoughts.
<v Speaker 2>We we've really been tapped into the roster for some
<v Speaker 2>reason lately. Uh and those are like two guys that
<v Speaker 2>stand out and uh Tatanka, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think
<v Speaker 2>that's those are pretty good.
<v Speaker 1>If I had to give a better answer, like if we.
<v Speaker 2>Had if I literally had to pick this.
<v Speaker 1>If we had to make it work, right, and we
<v Speaker 1>had to pick somebody, and like we were like, we
<v Speaker 1>have the outfit, we have the we have the chainsaw
<v Speaker 1>with the sparks, we got everything, and we're gonna make
<v Speaker 1>this work. I think, yeah, I think that I would
<v Speaker 1>give it to Jake Something.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, I was thinking something, which is pretty fucked up.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think he would work. He would have to
<v Speaker 1>work twice because I would still like him to be
<v Speaker 1>Jake Something.
<v Speaker 2>But we're getting like our boys getting paid double, you know.
<v Speaker 1>I mean that's kind of how old school wrestling worked anyways, right,
<v Speaker 1>Like you'd have five people and you'd somehow have you know,
<v Speaker 1>eight wrestlers on the show. Is because some of these
<v Speaker 1>guys go backstage, they put a mask on, they come
<v Speaker 1>back out of somebody else. I think that would work fantastically.
<v Speaker 1>Like when you bring back this character, it's not so
<v Speaker 1>much how his matches actually were, because most people that
<v Speaker 1>know this character don't know how his matches actually were.
<v Speaker 1>All they know is that he was a crazy fucking
<v Speaker 1>character chainsaw, and like their brain tells them that he
<v Speaker 1>was doing the most insane shit ever. So yeah, I'd
<v Speaker 1>have Jake go out there fucking power bomb outside of
<v Speaker 1>the ring, spinning, fucking sit out, oh my god, super bomb,
<v Speaker 1>you know, just come up with the craziest things you
<v Speaker 1>could do and then get the chainsaw and rev it
<v Speaker 1>up crazy or like people would be like there he is, like,
<v Speaker 1>come out and do the chainsaw over the head thing,
<v Speaker 1>you know.
<v Speaker 2>Just give it to trying to think of yeah, I
<v Speaker 2>mean like in terms of yeah, like the theatrics of it,
<v Speaker 2>Jake would be fucking fantastic at that. I'm trying to
<v Speaker 2>think if there's anybody else that like would fit that,
<v Speaker 2>even just body type wise like that, you know, if
<v Speaker 2>you were looking for like a true one to one
<v Speaker 2>or anything. But I don't damn, Jake was legit who
<v Speaker 2>I was thinking of. I don't know if there's anybody
<v Speaker 2>else that would be as good if we wanted like
<v Speaker 2>pretty sweet, Yeah, there's some you know people we probably
<v Speaker 2>just put anybody in there.
<v Speaker 1>Jake would be able to get the man or rhythms.
<v Speaker 1>That's the thing.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. The other name that came to mind
<v Speaker 2>was bear Bronson. I think, Okay, ye kind of fits
<v Speaker 2>like he kind of fits the build, like he does
<v Speaker 2>all that fun you know, he you know, if this
<v Speaker 2>is deathmatch leather face, right, he'll go full bore on
<v Speaker 2>that ship, like you know, he'll and he you know,
<v Speaker 2>like I said, he kind of has the build and
<v Speaker 2>he's kind of he can be frantic. So yeah, Barre
<v Speaker 2>Bronson probably would be. If I'm not picking Jake, if
<v Speaker 2>I'm picking the death match guy, then bear Bronson. I think.
<v Speaker 1>If we're not picking Jake or Bear Bronson, maybe.
<v Speaker 2>Jim Ross, w w D, maybe Dammy missed.
<v Speaker 1>We have another question here from retro shot. He asks,
<v Speaker 1>this question is for Johnny, what is your favorite fire
<v Speaker 1>Pro game? I heard you have built quite the collection
<v Speaker 1>in Japan.
<v Speaker 2>I okay, thank, I mean god, I didn't know that
<v Speaker 2>this has taken on a life of its own. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I do have. I do have quite a wrestling game collection,
<v Speaker 2>and the trips to Japan have fucking I mean only
<v Speaker 2>tripled it. Really the first year I went I'm pretty
<v Speaker 2>sure I bought im not joking thirty five games home.
<v Speaker 1>I mean we walked in those stores and uh you
<v Speaker 1>can hell yeah, I guess no one's heard like the
<v Speaker 1>account of somebody that's been with me going video game
<v Speaker 1>hunting here that I buy stuff. Well, you do the
<v Speaker 1>first sweep initially, where you just kind of look around
<v Speaker 1>see if you can catch any pro wrestling stuff. Then
<v Speaker 1>you do the second part of it, whereas everyone gets.
<v Speaker 2>Involved, which like is super nice. By the way, I
<v Speaker 2>don't like once in a while I'll say hey, like,
<v Speaker 2>have you seen anything, but like eventually if it's me,
<v Speaker 2>you sprite. I think last time we went, like Jake
<v Speaker 2>was looking domb like yeah, coup, Like, I think everybody
<v Speaker 2>would kind of got involved, where it's like, okay, we
<v Speaker 2>all need to see what wrestling games exist here, which
<v Speaker 2>is super helpful.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so that's the second sweep. Third sweep is walking
<v Speaker 1>up to the cashier with the Google Translate and asking
<v Speaker 1>if they have any pro wrestling games.
<v Speaker 2>That's like Desperate Mode, which was a few on the
<v Speaker 2>last one, which works. By the way, they're not offended
<v Speaker 2>by the law. It's not like you're bothering them and
<v Speaker 2>like they usually know, like you know, if most because
<v Speaker 2>most you know, wrestling games in Japan will just have
<v Speaker 2>wrestling in the title. So at the very least, if
<v Speaker 2>they don't know it by I or you know, they
<v Speaker 2>know that it came in, like they can look it
<v Speaker 2>up on the computer. So that shit super fucking helpful.
<v Speaker 2>But yes, that is that is pretty much exactly what
<v Speaker 2>it is. I God, I it looks like I have
<v Speaker 2>I own maybe ten to twelve different fire Pro games.
<v Speaker 2>That doesn't mean I've played all these though, Like a
<v Speaker 2>lot of shit I own, I actually still haven't touched.
<v Speaker 2>But the most the fire Pro games that I played
<v Speaker 2>the most are Returns and World, and I'd probably say
<v Speaker 2>one of those two are are my favorite. World might
<v Speaker 2>just get the edge just because I mean, good lord,
<v Speaker 2>World has everything. World does everything, especially if you have
<v Speaker 2>all the DC like and you have it on Steam, Like,
<v Speaker 2>what an endless amount of just life that game has.
<v Speaker 2>Like I could boot this game up tomorrow and it
<v Speaker 2>turned it into an entirely different game if I wanted to.
<v Speaker 2>It's fucking fun. Returns has a special place in my
<v Speaker 2>heart just because I remember getting it. I didn't know
<v Speaker 2>it was released in America. I remember getting I'm pretty
<v Speaker 2>sure it was like twenty or thirty bucks at game stop.
<v Speaker 2>I remember, yeah, No, it was fucking awesome. And I
<v Speaker 2>remember learning how to like put saves onto a USB
<v Speaker 2>and putting it into my PS two so I could
<v Speaker 2>have like just a fucking unreal indie roster on it.
<v Speaker 2>At the time.
<v Speaker 1>That was probably super cool back then.
<v Speaker 2>Dude, this was five, I want to say, or six
<v Speaker 2>something like that.
<v Speaker 1>I didn't play any Fire Pro games growing up, not
<v Speaker 1>even Returns. No, I wasn't like a fire prop at all.
<v Speaker 1>I did play, uh, the Xbox Arcade Fire Pro.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, I played that as well as adult.
<v Speaker 1>That ship was as I mean, that was a little
<v Speaker 1>Avatar gold.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, I had the gold. It was like, oh cool,
<v Speaker 2>I'm playing as like a wrestler in this. I still
<v Speaker 2>have all those Yeah, I do too. I don't understand
<v Speaker 2>how that was made or why, or like what that
<v Speaker 2>was about. That's like the furthest thing from a fire
<v Speaker 2>Pro game.
<v Speaker 1>Ever, I can understand why they went for it. To
<v Speaker 1>understand it, you truly have to look at it. The
<v Speaker 1>Xbox Arcade was unfucking real.
<v Speaker 2>It was sick.
<v Speaker 1>I mean it was so huge then, so like trying
<v Speaker 1>to release something in that manner was a great idea.
<v Speaker 1>It just yeah, it was just tough.
<v Speaker 2>But of all the things like yeah, the fire Provice,
<v Speaker 2>oh my god, wow, when you play your first fire Pro.
<v Speaker 1>Then whenever that came out, world, Uh no, the fire Pro.
<v Speaker 2>Was the first one. I oh oh, I mean, like
<v Speaker 2>I sorry, like after that, like when.
<v Speaker 1>Did you like if you don't count that one?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah yeah, world, wow, no shit. Yeah. So it's
<v Speaker 2>it's well, you took to it pretty well though, so
<v Speaker 2>that's good. Oh.
<v Speaker 1>I loved it. I thought it was super cool. I uh,
<v Speaker 1>funny enough. I I you know, I see a lot
<v Speaker 1>of people that also like maybe that's the first fire
<v Speaker 1>Pro gam and they don't quite understand it. But I
<v Speaker 1>never had that problem. Like I understood exactly what they
<v Speaker 1>were going for right away.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and it's like this is.
<v Speaker 1>Fucking sweet, Like I can create and do I guess
<v Speaker 1>maybe because like when we were growing up, we had
<v Speaker 1>to put more imagination into the games. So like, I
<v Speaker 1>don't see it as super face value as that I
<v Speaker 1>can kind of in my head, it's a little more expansive,
<v Speaker 1>I guess if that's a good way to put it.
<v Speaker 2>So I kind of clicked with.
<v Speaker 1>Fire Pro right away. I never had a problem with that,
<v Speaker 1>but I have heard people are, you know, if they
<v Speaker 1>have to take the games at like straight face value,
<v Speaker 1>they have trouble with fire Pro Am.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean if you've only played we games forever, right,
<v Speaker 2>or like that's the only thing you really like, like
<v Speaker 2>especially simulation style, like yeah, just yeah, I mean like
<v Speaker 2>it's so fucking fine, Like it's so it's funny. I've
<v Speaker 2>been seeing them pop up on my TikTok lately. Uh,
<v Speaker 2>just like fire Pro World propaganda videos are like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this game is the best fucking game ever. I'm like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>holy shit, maybe it is. I want to play this again. Yes, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I love the fire programs. There's, like I said, there's
<v Speaker 2>so many that I haven't touched that I I do
<v Speaker 2>want to. But if i'm if I'm picking, I'm fire
<v Speaker 2>Pro World is is fucking the perfect fire Pro game
<v Speaker 2>for me. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I've put a ton of hours in the world, man, like.
<v Speaker 2>We gotta play I kind of.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, even when we're not creating content, Like there's
<v Speaker 1>so many times where just chilling just have Fire Pro up,
<v Speaker 1>just fucking playing.
<v Speaker 2>We did that, Like I don't remember when that was,
<v Speaker 2>but that was like, uh, it might have been before
<v Speaker 2>Roger or Visportez was broke for us and we were
<v Speaker 2>like doing that in the DPW ring and fire thro.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, there was actually you know, I guess we can
<v Speaker 1>pull the curtain back a little bit here.
<v Speaker 2>Sure.
<v Speaker 1>But with DPW initially, like when we were first setting up,
<v Speaker 1>like how we want like the ring and everything to
<v Speaker 1>look no joke, like, went into Photoshop, created the assets,
<v Speaker 1>loaded it into fire Pro World, put it on the ring. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and then we said, yep, this is the one.
<v Speaker 2>I remember I was at I remember I was at
<v Speaker 2>Deb's parents house on my laptop and we were talking
<v Speaker 2>about it and you were like, man, like, how should
<v Speaker 2>this look? And I don't. It was one of our
<v Speaker 2>ideas that said what would like what does this look
<v Speaker 2>like in fire Pro? And then you just booted up
<v Speaker 2>and like did it? And we were like, ah, I
<v Speaker 2>think I do think there was a couple of changes
<v Speaker 2>we made too, because I was.
<v Speaker 1>Like, yeah, we tried a couple of different mats, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>turn buckles, we tried all orange tropes, yeah, all orange, and.
<v Speaker 2>Then ultimately yeah, so like the first DPW ring before
<v Speaker 2>it came to existence, before we put any orders.
<v Speaker 1>Was the fire Fro Creation, which is fucking pretty cool. Yeah, no, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and then we just kind of ran a bunch of
<v Speaker 1>matches in it, like it just became like our default
<v Speaker 1>fucking round offline ring. And we have one more question
<v Speaker 1>here from Pickles.
<v Speaker 2>Sorry, I just love saying that words.
<v Speaker 1>No, I just love saying pickles. Pickles asks, what are
<v Speaker 1>your favorite current bands?
<v Speaker 2>Slayer like fucking I don't know, Ozzy Osbourne.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, here's the deal, Like Park, we're in our thirties.
<v Speaker 1>You know, we're in our thirties. The music we listen
<v Speaker 1>to is just the music that we listened to.
<v Speaker 2>When we were young.
<v Speaker 1>Again true, I mean I have some favorite current bands.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, if you really thought about it, I bet
<v Speaker 1>you could figure out some.
<v Speaker 2>Bet I mean, wish I listened to a lot now
<v Speaker 2>they're like, yeah, there you go. There's one knock Loose
<v Speaker 2>I've been you know. Yeah, knock Loose is a great
<v Speaker 2>when I listen to them too. Who else do I
<v Speaker 2>funk with? Let me say, I'm I'm trying to actually
<v Speaker 2>look through my uh my fucking because there's some I do.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, if you go to on repeat, you can probably
<v Speaker 1>find some bands or something that like maybe you uh.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot that's even the thing. Well,
<v Speaker 2>there's some old bands I like that, Like AFI has
<v Speaker 2>been doing some stuff that I actually like. There's still
<v Speaker 2>I've done recently. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're still dope. Those
<v Speaker 2>are the three that I probably. I mean, Ghost obviously,
<v Speaker 2>that's fucking you know good Lord of course.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah you're super into Ghost.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean I I you know, I could uh,
<v Speaker 2>I could give or take their the album they came
<v Speaker 2>out with last, but you know there's I still still
<v Speaker 2>like them. Sure, yeah, what about you? Who else do you?
<v Speaker 2>Maybe there's something that we have.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I've been listening to Heart to Gold a lot recently.
<v Speaker 1>Locke Shut is another band that I've been listening to
<v Speaker 1>a lot recently. Tiger's Jaw has a new album coming out.
<v Speaker 1>I'm excited for that. Oh yeah, Dying Wish, Knock Loose
<v Speaker 1>like you said, or bands now listen to pretty regularly.
<v Speaker 1>Guilt Trip is a good band. Oh I like Guilt Trip,
<v Speaker 1>yeah as much as.
<v Speaker 2>I like this. Oh you've you've told me about them? Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they have some I think they're recording a new
<v Speaker 1>album now or or doing something like that. So Hot
<v Speaker 1>Mulligan's new stuff is good. They make Kyle Fletcher's theme song.
<v Speaker 2>Dad likes Hot Mulligan. I just got her like Hot
<v Speaker 2>Mulligan merch for Christmas. She just got into them heavy.
<v Speaker 2>So that's I heard them a bit too. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I've been listening to them for a minute. I
<v Speaker 1>was surprised they were the band that broke through. Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And it's just I think it's the same deal with
<v Speaker 1>knock Loose. Like when I was listening to Hot Mulligan,
<v Speaker 1>a big hang up for like a lot of people
<v Speaker 1>at the time was like this guy sounds fucking just different,
<v Speaker 1>Like he just sounds sure, not like a band that
<v Speaker 1>would break through to like a mainstream audience. But they did,
<v Speaker 1>you know. And like, I don't know if there's been
<v Speaker 1>a band as hot as Hot Mulligan since, like the
<v Speaker 1>story so far, broke through when I.
<v Speaker 2>Was in high school. No, I don't think so. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>like they they get like radio radio play, right.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they're doing super well, which is awesome to see.
<v Speaker 2>Do this funny there was a band it just showed up.
<v Speaker 2>I was doing like a fucking Spotify like radio game
<v Speaker 2>or whatever, and H two O showed up. But I
<v Speaker 2>was like, oh this, I know I've heard of this
<v Speaker 2>fucking man, like a buddy of mine, my buddy Dan,
<v Speaker 2>like would tell me about them all the time. Okay,
<v Speaker 2>I'll listen. There's stuff I'm like, oh, this is dope,
<v Speaker 2>Like one of the last time they did anything. Okay, man,
<v Speaker 2>that's been like almost ten years.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, yeah, I mean, I mean with music ten years
<v Speaker 1>is still active, you know. But yeah, knock Loose was
<v Speaker 1>the same way as Hot Mulligan. Like I remember when
<v Speaker 1>I first started listening to Knock Loose, you know, the
<v Speaker 1>big hang up for everybody too was like the lead
<v Speaker 1>singer of this band sounds crazy like this, that's like
<v Speaker 1>this won't work.
<v Speaker 2>And then that's another band that I heard of, dude,
<v Speaker 2>oh my god, unbelievably working. And like that's a band
<v Speaker 2>I heard of forever ago too, from my fucking buddy Dan,
<v Speaker 2>my buddy Dan, and you actually probably have a lot
<v Speaker 2>of Yeah, he's like a you know, New Jersey hardcore guy,
<v Speaker 2>so like that's you know, I'm sure it's pretty close
<v Speaker 2>to all the ship you like. But yeah, he was
<v Speaker 2>talking to me, tell me about them forever ago, and
<v Speaker 2>like then we saw him, I was like, oh, this
<v Speaker 2>is Okay, this makes sense. I like this, Who's who's
<v Speaker 2>playing in Japan when we're and right, yes, that's it was, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>which is pretty cool.
<v Speaker 1>And that's all the questions we got. Thank you guys,
<v Speaker 1>so much unbelievable. All right, let us get into the
<v Speaker 1>very first episode of the very first season of Lucha Underground.
<v Speaker 2>I was going to try to do like this, you know,
<v Speaker 2>I usually say a song here, but they only are
<v Speaker 2>known for the bumper sound burn b yeah, which I
<v Speaker 2>don't even know if it's a sound that they use
<v Speaker 2>on this first episode. I don't know if that's established yet.
<v Speaker 1>It's like a different I think I heard it at
<v Speaker 1>the very beginning okay, yeah, at the very beginning of
<v Speaker 1>the show. Right, it does go right into that very beginning.
<v Speaker 2>Burn, which sets the stage for what we come to
<v Speaker 2>expect it for Luca Underground. Just whatever. All the time,
<v Speaker 2>this has been actually a highly requested retro, and I
<v Speaker 2>think maybe we avoided it because it made me feel
<v Speaker 2>old because this is twenty fourteen we're talking about here,
<v Speaker 2>and I was like, wow, okay, like, I guess that
<v Speaker 2>isn't kind of the area because we've done twenty fourteen teen.
<v Speaker 2>A's so like, I guess it's fair play, but it
<v Speaker 2>just feels wrong because I watched this. I watched this
<v Speaker 2>when it aired, so I feel just like an old
<v Speaker 2>piece of shit. Well, let's talk about what was going
<v Speaker 2>on in the world wrestling time with the Wrestling Observer newsletter.
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna do it a little different. I did this
<v Speaker 2>for XWF, so if you've listened to those, it's kind
<v Speaker 2>of like that. I'm gonna go kind of over a
<v Speaker 2>time period here of just the Observer talking about the
<v Speaker 2>formation of Lucha Underground, what it was gonna like. You know,
<v Speaker 2>the first idea is that YadA YadA, YadA, kind of
<v Speaker 2>just the dripped news feed of what we were looking
<v Speaker 2>at the time, just to get an idea of what
<v Speaker 2>things were looking like going into this first episode. So
<v Speaker 2>from The Observer. January twentieth, twenty fourteen. The official announcement
<v Speaker 2>of Triple A's attempt to break into the US market
<v Speaker 2>and a television deal with the new l Ray Network. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>came over the weekend when Scott Sasa L Ray Networks
<v Speaker 2>vice chairman, made the announcement on January twelfth at a
<v Speaker 2>press tour. I'm at the point in my career where
<v Speaker 2>I could probably try anything, said Burnett at the announcement.
<v Speaker 2>Burnett is god afrigat.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know why, don't even executive producer.
<v Speaker 2>Is that what it was? I think that's right. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I forget his first name here, I had it written down,
<v Speaker 2>but he he's done a lot of stuff. He did
<v Speaker 2>he like produced like Survivor and a lot of popular shows.
<v Speaker 2>So I think, uh, he's like pretty much saying here
<v Speaker 2>like I can do whatever, and I wanted to try wrestling,
<v Speaker 2>which I thought was pretty cool.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, this is definitely an interesting take on it.
<v Speaker 1>You can kind of feel right away that there's a
<v Speaker 1>big vision here for what this should be.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, he says, uh, why wouldn't you bring Mexico's number
<v Speaker 2>two sport to America? This is a long term, big
<v Speaker 2>play for us. And also they said besides the weekly
<v Speaker 2>television show, there would be a variety of major wrestling
<v Speaker 2>TV specials on the station, which they did do like
<v Speaker 2>Ultimate Luca and Shure like that, as well story lines
<v Speaker 2>building around building two pay per V shows, which I
<v Speaker 2>don't I don't think they did pay per view if
<v Speaker 2>I'm not mistaken. Okay, it's always just like a big
<v Speaker 2>special one.
<v Speaker 1>I guess in twenty fourteen, at the time pay per
<v Speaker 1>views were tough. A lot of people were trying Ie
<v Speaker 1>pay per views was on the horizon, sh'll go live.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah it was not working.
<v Speaker 2>No, yeah, it was awful.
<v Speaker 1>Uh you know fuck yeah, I mean, god damn, I'll
<v Speaker 1>never forget the Wrestle Kingdom on Fight just unbelievably bad,
<v Speaker 1>to the point.
<v Speaker 2>Where it was funded everybody. I mean even at the
<v Speaker 2>same time. Yeah, go what would it go? Was it
<v Speaker 2>go fight live? That was the other one, right?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>I think was that the one?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that's right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that was fucking bad. Like that killed r O
<v Speaker 2>H for a minute.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean New Japan was streaming on U stream.
<v Speaker 1>I do you guys even.
<v Speaker 2>My god? Yeah, dude, the first stream I ever did
<v Speaker 2>was on U stream.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean people would get the U stream and
<v Speaker 1>then restream it ad justin TV just because you stream
<v Speaker 1>is so fun.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Now just says The television show will be built
<v Speaker 2>around a storyline where they will introduce five baby face
<v Speaker 2>stars to build the American brand around. The idea is
<v Speaker 2>the wrestlers have discovered that there is a plot to
<v Speaker 2>destroy Lucha Libre and somehow because they knew too much.
<v Speaker 2>The powers that be have exiled them to the United States.
<v Speaker 2>That kind of changes, It does change, yeah, yeah, and
<v Speaker 2>some more of like the Aztec tribe kind of thing
<v Speaker 2>where they're all kind of coming together. But so that's
<v Speaker 2>that's the first like press release about Luca Underground. Doesn't
<v Speaker 2>have a name yet. It's just a Triple A product
<v Speaker 2>that the l RAY Network is bringing to America. So
<v Speaker 2>that's January of twenty fourteen. Then the next time we
<v Speaker 2>hear about it is July twenty first, twenty fourteen. The
<v Speaker 2>Observer says the l RAY Network announced on seven to
<v Speaker 2>nine at the Television Critics Association Press Junket that they
<v Speaker 2>would be airing a one hour Wednesday night show starting
<v Speaker 2>on October eighth. The show is tentatively easy for me
<v Speaker 2>to say, titled Lucha Uprising and would feature the stars
<v Speaker 2>of Triple A and be produced by Mark Burnett of
<v Speaker 2>Survivor Fang. There we go, Mark Burnett. They only announced
<v Speaker 2>there would be eight episodes for the first season, so
<v Speaker 2>they're not treating a traditional wrestling show with a weekly commitment,
<v Speaker 2>but more like a seasonal reality show. No word on
<v Speaker 2>when the first taping will take place past the point.
<v Speaker 2>The date has been changed at least once, so this
<v Speaker 2>date does change, doesn't air October eighth. But Lucha Uprising
<v Speaker 2>was the first name of this fucking show, not Luca Underground.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Luca Underground is great branding, especially with the temple
<v Speaker 1>that they end up using and the things that they
<v Speaker 1>do here in La I believe is where they're filming
<v Speaker 1>all this stuff, that's right. So yeah, I mean the
<v Speaker 1>biggest strength of Lucha Underground was its branding and its feeling.
<v Speaker 1>I think that that's what most people remember from this show,
<v Speaker 1>is like the very unique setting and the very unique
<v Speaker 1>items and branding the feel to bring to the table.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and that's, uh, you know, that was a big
<v Speaker 2>part of this. I mean, that's it seemed like that
<v Speaker 2>was the vision from the start that they were going
<v Speaker 2>to try to do like a television show instead of
<v Speaker 2>just like a wrestling show, which doesn't always work.
<v Speaker 1>But super interesting, but yeah, it doesn't work a lot.
<v Speaker 2>So here's the next part. Next time we hear about
<v Speaker 2>Lucha Uprising from The Observer August twenty fifth, twenty fourteen,
<v Speaker 2>So jumping a little closer to debut here, Meltzer says,
<v Speaker 2>as things stand right now. They'll be doing TV tapings
<v Speaker 2>for the l RAY Network on September sixth and September
<v Speaker 2>seventh from a sound stage studio warehouse in Boyle Heights,
<v Speaker 2>a part of Los Angeles. The scheduled debut on the
<v Speaker 2>l RAY Network is on October eighth, in a Wednesday
<v Speaker 2>night time slot. From the little bits that have come out,
<v Speaker 2>the idea from the money and the production people at
<v Speaker 2>l RAY is to do something completely different from any
<v Speaker 2>pro wrestling or Lucha libre. There are two writers working
<v Speaker 2>on the season, one of whom has never worked in wrestling,
<v Speaker 2>and the other is Christopher to Joseph, who spent years
<v Speaker 2>in w as a writer and also played the character
<v Speaker 2>Big Dick Judson. Oh Wow, yes though with the Sandman
<v Speaker 2>guy Yeah, oiled up, oiled up for Lucha Libre, which
<v Speaker 2>somehow doesn't make it on the show.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think they had him at the Junket.
<v Speaker 2>He was. He was doing the Singapore Cane spot at
<v Speaker 2>the Junket with the l RAY team.
<v Speaker 1>And a big part of our upcoming Luca Uprising.
<v Speaker 2>The show.
<v Speaker 1>Big Dick just said, all right, we're gonna call it
<v Speaker 1>Luca Underground. This guy is not coming within one hundred.
<v Speaker 2>Yards in kick this guy's fucking ass, actually chade him outside.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I want take him back there, take the oil
<v Speaker 1>off of them, and then beat.
<v Speaker 2>The pow wow things. James has never said take the
<v Speaker 2>oil off that.
<v Speaker 1>We need the oil. Just take the oil, beat this
<v Speaker 1>guy to death of the ammers.
<v Speaker 2>Melzer says it will not be like Triple A Wrestling
<v Speaker 2>in Mexico, but we'll use some of the stars of
<v Speaker 2>Triple A along with p tw BG stars. Names that
<v Speaker 2>we've heard confirmed from the show include Ricky Reyes, Joey Ryan,
<v Speaker 2>Chavo Grower, Junior That's What's Wrong, Sean Hanna Gone aka
<v Speaker 2>John Morrison.
<v Speaker 1>Stars, Ricky Rayes, Joey Ryan, shav Ger her name.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah Phoenix, and John Hennegan. Also don't forget if our
<v Speaker 2>Berto del Rio can get his non compete overturned, he'll
<v Speaker 2>likely be pushes the big star fairly quick. Dude.
<v Speaker 1>I am so glad the show wasn't whatever.
<v Speaker 2>This was. Wow, This like was really scary at the
<v Speaker 2>start here.
<v Speaker 1>Huh Yeah, I mean we see Ricky rays on this show.
<v Speaker 2>Listen, mad respect for Ricky Reyes, but how the hell
<v Speaker 2>is he the first.
<v Speaker 1>Ricky Reyez? I mean, if there's one thing Ricky Rayez
<v Speaker 1>is gonna do, it's find a fucking job in wrestling.
<v Speaker 2>He's getting bunked.
<v Speaker 1>Ye, He's gonna get a fucking job in wrestling. Like
<v Speaker 1>that's like all wrestling is is like literally your ability
<v Speaker 1>to be booked. So uh, Ricky ray As was very
<v Speaker 1>good at that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. From The Observer, September one, twenty fourteen. A month
<v Speaker 2>later here. The long talked about debut of pro wrestling
<v Speaker 2>on the fledgling l Ray network was officially announced in
<v Speaker 2>a press release by the network on August twenty seventh,
<v Speaker 2>with the first television taping taking place on September six
<v Speaker 2>at a studio and Boil Heights. Mark Burnett's one to
<v Speaker 2>three Media Yeah, which has produced such as The Survivor
<v Speaker 2>of the Voice and Celebrity Apprentice, will be behind the
<v Speaker 2>project that is going to be called Luca Undergrounds. So
<v Speaker 2>now we finally have a name change here. I wonder.
<v Speaker 2>I think luc Undergrounds is way better name, by the way,
<v Speaker 2>But I wonder what made them change it up.
<v Speaker 1>I think because the show probably changed a little bitity yeah, right, Like,
<v Speaker 1>how can we present what the show is going to
<v Speaker 1>be like to the audience and Uprising definitely doesn't really
<v Speaker 1>follow the same branding rules as Underground would for sure.
<v Speaker 2>The decision was made a tape in a small area
<v Speaker 2>as opposed to a major arena in Mexico or the
<v Speaker 2>Southwest in an attempt to create the kind of atmosphere
<v Speaker 2>that PBG shows in the area have generated. So that's
<v Speaker 2>you know, gritty and small building. I mean, that's no ac.
<v Speaker 1>The guy that runs in hates everyone there.
<v Speaker 2>Well, there's a little bit to say about that, jails
<v Speaker 2>because from the Observer September eighth, twenty fourteen, it might
<v Speaker 2>actually be one of these next ones, but there is
<v Speaker 2>talk of the actual place that they run here being
<v Speaker 2>not that great. Aside from website listings, some online tweets
<v Speaker 2>and posts and flyers on the cars of those who
<v Speaker 2>attended the p TOBG shows over the weekend in Rosita,
<v Speaker 2>and some posted signs in the area, there doesn't seem
<v Speaker 2>to be much publicity for the weekend tapings. There are
<v Speaker 2>a lot of complaints going around regarding the contracts offered
<v Speaker 2>as well. The wording of the contracts includes exclusivity for
<v Speaker 2>seven television seasons, which scares people regarding how long seven
<v Speaker 2>seasons could be given. It could be and probably means
<v Speaker 2>seven years if this first off.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, seven years for seven seasons is already super optimistic.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, look at the way television is produced today,
<v Speaker 1>seven seasons would legit take fifteen years. I'm not fucking.
<v Speaker 2>Kidding, dude, I mean it would legit. This last this
<v Speaker 2>last what four years? I guess they get four years
<v Speaker 2>out of force, you know, four seasons, but like you know,
<v Speaker 2>I can't.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know who knows, dude, pandemic hits. The way
<v Speaker 1>TV is produced has changed forever. They would be locked
<v Speaker 1>into these contracts to this to this.
<v Speaker 2>Day, they would have been on the Brett Hart deal.
<v Speaker 1>Like it would have been horrible. I remember, yeah, the
<v Speaker 1>breakdown on these contracts because a lot of guys were
<v Speaker 1>signed to these long term deals and like the business
<v Speaker 1>had changed so much over that time, and people so
<v Speaker 1>quick begging to get out of these loocha underground contracts
<v Speaker 1>just beg.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, well, I mean especially once AW pops up, right, yeah, like,
<v Speaker 2>oh my god, you know NXT's popping off. Aw's fucking
<v Speaker 2>coming around the corner. Like these guys. Ricochet is stuck
<v Speaker 2>in a seven year deal. I remember that being a
<v Speaker 2>big fucking deal all the time, like him trying to
<v Speaker 2>get out of that. There were a few other people
<v Speaker 2>that were, like, you know, Brian Cage I think might
<v Speaker 2>have been one of those. Yeah, you know, because tn
<v Speaker 2>A is still doing shit too, you know, TENA is
<v Speaker 2>always fucking doing something. They you know, people were trying
<v Speaker 2>to go this, that and the other. And seven years
<v Speaker 2>is that's I mean Stone Cold wasn't even on top
<v Speaker 2>for seven years.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean every era you've ever liked in wrestling
<v Speaker 1>probably didn't last seven years.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>You know, it's just like when you look at it
<v Speaker 1>and you break it down, like in twenty fourteen specifically,
<v Speaker 1>it probably seemed okay, you know, like, yeah, I don't
<v Speaker 1>really know what the landscape of wrestling looks like. It
<v Speaker 1>doesn't look like it's gonna get much better for the
<v Speaker 1>guys that are in ROH or doing PWG. You know,
<v Speaker 1>like maybe one or two guys makes it to WWE,
<v Speaker 1>but that's kind of always been the case. Yeah, I mean,
<v Speaker 1>in the next few years, I mean it is literally
<v Speaker 1>a max It is literally a mass exodus of indie
<v Speaker 1>guys two big companies. Yeah, right, And you make a
<v Speaker 1>good point. Wait, aw comes around. I mean they're signing
<v Speaker 1>anyone that's available at that point.
<v Speaker 2>Holy, I mean, dude, especially if you work in California.
<v Speaker 2>Uh yeah. So Meltzer says if this goes nowhere, but
<v Speaker 2>saysn't exist as much of the talent doesn't want their
<v Speaker 2>careers paralyzed or to make a commitment that pretty much
<v Speaker 2>well kills their dreams of going we for so many years.
<v Speaker 2>On August twenty nine, five number of wrestlers offered contracts
<v Speaker 2>were told that it was a now a take it
<v Speaker 2>or leave its situation and told they had a deadline
<v Speaker 2>of September second to sign or their roles would be recasted. Yeah. Man,
<v Speaker 2>I mean that's also so there's a name specifically that
<v Speaker 2>we I mentioned here in that other one, Hernandez. No, well,
<v Speaker 2>I mean, dude, oh my god, the rock showed up
<v Speaker 2>would have done wonders for everybody. Fuck the contracts.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you have six days to sign this fucking contract
<v Speaker 1>or we're recasting your role to Ricky Reyaz.
<v Speaker 2>And it'll be a way better rock than you or Bud.
<v Speaker 2>So Hernandez does go to Luca Underground, but it's not
<v Speaker 2>like he was supposed to be on this like first
<v Speaker 2>turn of it, and I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>What hernandez entire second part of his career is him
<v Speaker 1>being fucked up in these contract deals.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's fun.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, good lord, the Lucha Underground deal and then
<v Speaker 1>what kind of deal he had with TNA, Yeah, the
<v Speaker 1>TNA deal. Yeah, good lord. There was just so much
<v Speaker 1>going on.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, he always was kind of going through it. But
<v Speaker 2>I like Hernandez. I kind of wish he would have
<v Speaker 2>been on this early.
<v Speaker 1>I loved the first half of Hernandez's career, oh my god, Like,
<v Speaker 1>I absolutely adore it. I think it's one of the
<v Speaker 1>best like tag runs that TNA ever had for anyone ever.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if he was ever able to recapture
<v Speaker 1>that lightning in a bottle that him and Homicide.
<v Speaker 2>Had Homicide, Yeah, yeah, I mean.
<v Speaker 1>How many guys even get to have that lightning at
<v Speaker 1>a bottle, you.
<v Speaker 2>Know, right, Like Lax will be remembered forever as like
<v Speaker 2>the best tag team of that time, which is crazy
<v Speaker 2>because there was a lot of great tag teams, and.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, had a good gaggle of tag that's a good word.
<v Speaker 2>I like that. A couple more things here as we
<v Speaker 2>round out, going into the debut here from The Observer
<v Speaker 2>September fifteenth, twenty fourteen, So the show has been taped.
<v Speaker 2>The first show was taped in a largely empty studio
<v Speaker 2>with a few wrestling fans at most extras, maybe one
<v Speaker 2>hundred people in total, who were mostly hired to be
<v Speaker 2>studio audiences at television shows and were being paid nine
<v Speaker 2>dollars to act as fans, but in a building with
<v Speaker 2>no air conditioning and them having no emotional attachment, they
<v Speaker 2>just sat there. For the most part, there weren't even
<v Speaker 2>enough to come close to filling the building. Aside from
<v Speaker 2>wrestling websites and social media, the only word regarding tickets
<v Speaker 2>was flyers put on cars at the PDBG Battle of
<v Speaker 2>Los Angeles shows the previous week. Dude, Okay, before I
<v Speaker 2>continue starting a show, a wrestling show seemingly in the
<v Speaker 2>vicinity of PWG a week after the Battle of Los Angeles,
<v Speaker 2>like you're fuck dude.
<v Speaker 1>You know I was gonna talk about it later in
<v Speaker 1>this show, But I also just want to remind you
<v Speaker 1>this is Roddy on Top era PWG. This is the
<v Speaker 1>champs here, Roddy erawg uh, I mean, this is an
<v Speaker 1>unreal time for them. Yeah, I mean maybe maybe the
<v Speaker 1>idea here is like they're trying to capture that same deal.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, PWG was so fucking hot at this point,
<v Speaker 1>I mean untouchable. Yeah, I like it's hard to explain
<v Speaker 1>if you weren't like just kind of caught up in
<v Speaker 1>that deal there. But like they were so high and
<v Speaker 1>it was just a fucking once a month indie running
<v Speaker 1>in LA and yeah, it was just so unbelievable, and
<v Speaker 1>like the deal is. I think they saw that and
<v Speaker 1>they're like, you know, maybe we can try to I mean,
<v Speaker 1>it's what they read here and there a ways was
<v Speaker 1>you know, they saw that and they were like, let's
<v Speaker 1>try to like capture that same feeling here. It's just
<v Speaker 1>hard to do. I mean, like there's only one PWG man.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, dude, I'm coming out coming out of twenty
<v Speaker 2>fourteen Bowler and I come outside and on my car
<v Speaker 2>there's a picture of Traval Guerrero. I'm fucking double stomping
<v Speaker 2>by Winchild. Dude, I mean, yeah, the fucking yeah, I'm
<v Speaker 2>in a POBG show. The only P two BG guy
<v Speaker 2>you got on this flyers Joey Ryan, I'm stopping by
<v Speaker 2>fucking Witch with the fucking away from me. I'm showing
<v Speaker 2>it to the Super Dragon. He's fucking kicking my windshielding
<v Speaker 2>now too, Like we're both really mad.
<v Speaker 1>Dude, I cannot believe that Super Dragon was not a
<v Speaker 1>part of this fucking deal. I mean, I know by
<v Speaker 1>that point Super Dragon was kind of semi retired, he
<v Speaker 1>just wanted to dowg But I mean, would have been
<v Speaker 1>a fucking vibe. Yeah, what if it was Ricky Reya's
<v Speaker 1>little cholo and Super Dragon. That would have been fucking nuts.
<v Speaker 1>And they come in and they stomp dude shoot style
<v Speaker 1>in the middle of this fucking.
<v Speaker 2>Ring, even if he was just their boss, Like, holy shit,
<v Speaker 2>it's super Dragon and he's in the masking dude fingers, Yeah, what.
<v Speaker 1>If it was What if it was super Dragon? Ricky
<v Speaker 1>rays a little cello and they beat them, but then
<v Speaker 1>they learn, oh my god, they were actually a part
<v Speaker 1>of a bigger deal.
<v Speaker 2>I mean nuts, dude, Yeah, And like, why the fuck not? Right,
<v Speaker 2>Like they just invent dudes on this show. They could
<v Speaker 2>even if you don't know Super Dragon, this is a
<v Speaker 2>fucking like a show show. They could just make. Oh
<v Speaker 2>my god, super Dragon, everyone knows him. I'm equato fucking
<v Speaker 2>oh my god, the fucking my answers has talked about
<v Speaker 2>this guy dude, right, Like for.
<v Speaker 1>The fans who know who Super Dragon is, they'd be like,
<v Speaker 1>oh shit, this is super crazy. Like what I'm looking
<v Speaker 1>at this is.
<v Speaker 2>Super super Dragon? Why super crazy? Not here? Yes?
<v Speaker 1>Right, okay? What if they took down Super Dragon and
<v Speaker 1>then they go to a guy that's even higher than
<v Speaker 1>him and it's super crazy?
<v Speaker 2>Fucking shit, Oh my god, oh my god.
<v Speaker 1>These are the questions they keep you up at night.
<v Speaker 2>And then finally at the top of the fucking food
<v Speaker 2>Champon's super Eric.
<v Speaker 1>He's locked in for a twenty year deal in Lucia Underground.
<v Speaker 2>He's in seven.
<v Speaker 1>Guys. I hate to tell you, but I'm never leaving
<v Speaker 1>this place, and neither are you.
<v Speaker 2>Ah. That's how it ends the season.
<v Speaker 1>What what, what really should have happened is they should
<v Speaker 1>have started with Blue Daymon and Chavo. Blue Daymon uh
<v Speaker 1>Pole drives him straight off the apron to the floor,
<v Speaker 1>and then Super Dragon walks out and Curb stomps him
<v Speaker 1>into the concrete and then Blue Super Dragon dap up
<v Speaker 1>like Dylan and Arnold.
<v Speaker 2>And Sean has both of them in the hot tub
<v Speaker 2>on YouTube next week.
<v Speaker 1>Anyways, fucking Curbs Thompson the daft up right, it pans out,
<v Speaker 1>give me the long shot and here's Deshawn's two cents
<v Speaker 1>with Conan and the hot tub. So tell me about
<v Speaker 1>this Prince Puma guy.
<v Speaker 2>Wow. I mean, like guys in a tome machine could
<v Speaker 2>have really did something here, you know, like this is
<v Speaker 2>what does scene needed, not fucking Chopper.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I'm fired up just at the thought of
<v Speaker 1>Blue Damon and super dragging dapping the fuck up, Like
<v Speaker 1>that's the first thing.
<v Speaker 2>You see on the show that would be I mean, Natalie,
<v Speaker 2>doesn't happen.
<v Speaker 6>Doesn't happen today, yell, oh shit Dragon, He's just there,
<v Speaker 6>he stands up out of the crowd.
<v Speaker 2>Sho. I do by the way, that there was the
<v Speaker 2>first person that they considered for commentary. Please just I'm
<v Speaker 2>sure you know it's every company ever has considered this
<v Speaker 2>guy for the commentary. Who good Old Jr? Oh my god, really,
<v Speaker 2>oh my god, my god, oh shit. Meltzer says there
<v Speaker 2>were virtually no Hispanic fans at the first show, but
<v Speaker 2>Blue Daimon Jr. And Dorian Rowland on Twitter promoted the
<v Speaker 2>second night of the tapings and gave the address, just
<v Speaker 2>telling fans to show up. Blue Daimon Junior posted addresses
<v Speaker 2>show the fuck up, bitch if you dare. There was
<v Speaker 2>a part here I didn't include, but there was a
<v Speaker 2>bit of a so I guess Chavo and Conan were
<v Speaker 2>two of the agents, and uh, Chalvo was telling him
<v Speaker 2>to do a more WB style and to slow it
<v Speaker 2>down and not to do a bunch of shit, and
<v Speaker 2>Conan was saying, you guys got to do P two
<v Speaker 2>BG shit and go crazy, right.
<v Speaker 1>I mean twenty fourteen, like I was, I swear to god,
<v Speaker 1>I was super I was just super jaded. I wanted
<v Speaker 1>Big Bomb wrestling. Of course, I didn't want anything that
<v Speaker 1>resembled WWE at the time. Oh and like, while I
<v Speaker 1>can understand maybe where child is going from, I would
<v Speaker 1>never say I want you to wrestle more like the WWE.
<v Speaker 1>I think the better way to say it was, maybe,
<v Speaker 1>you know, we figure out how to like do some
<v Speaker 1>different shit differently, right. I would never ever start a
<v Speaker 1>conversation with let's wrestle like the WWE.
<v Speaker 2>Especially a division guy.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think there's just a lot of negative connotation
<v Speaker 1>that comes with that. I I mean, like, if I
<v Speaker 1>look at it earnestly. I understand what he was trying
<v Speaker 1>to say, but I all.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, of course it's not just.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I just recoil when I hear wrestle like the WWE,
<v Speaker 1>it just sounds like just shit it up tonight for me, fellas.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, just take it easy tonight, right, Yeah, And which
<v Speaker 2>is not I don't it's it's not what he meant.
<v Speaker 1>It's not what he meant, but it's like break.
<v Speaker 2>That's the connotation though.
<v Speaker 1>Because like for the longest time it was like I'm
<v Speaker 1>so fucking sick of hearing yeah right, yeah, right, like
<v Speaker 1>I don't want this ship to.
<v Speaker 2>Be w W e h if if you want to put
<v Speaker 2>it that way.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, So it's like a natural.
<v Speaker 2>Started doing that. It made me mad.
<v Speaker 1>Like anytime I heard it, I was like, oh, fuck
<v Speaker 1>this guy, you know, like fuck you, yes, the fuck
<v Speaker 1>out of the business, you know, Like it was just yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it was just like at the time, like I think
<v Speaker 1>I was just I was super jaded.
<v Speaker 2>I was young.
<v Speaker 1>I had a lot of fucking spite in me, like yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and I was ready to see the fucking next generation
<v Speaker 1>of wrestling. I had already seen the ship they were
<v Speaker 1>doing at w W you know, I was like, fuck,
<v Speaker 1>I'm sick of this, Like I was, yeah, right, So
<v Speaker 1>definitely the right call. From what I understand. Luca Underground
<v Speaker 1>changes quite a bit in season two and season three
<v Speaker 1>percent I never got a season two or season.
<v Speaker 2>Three even season one, to be honest with.
<v Speaker 1>You, Yeah, maybe, you know, I've only seen so many
<v Speaker 1>episodes of this, so I would be interested maybe one
<v Speaker 1>day as we make our way through Lucha Underground to
<v Speaker 1>see more of this, because I know a lot of
<v Speaker 1>people hold this in high regard and like, at some level,
<v Speaker 1>I am kind of said that I never gave it
<v Speaker 1>the lighted day back then because I think I probably
<v Speaker 1>would have had a lot of like good memories of it.
<v Speaker 2>Well, we watch matches on the fucking Patreon, right, and
<v Speaker 2>there's no context, and then you watch a full show,
<v Speaker 2>it's like, Okay, this is way different.
<v Speaker 1>Right, yeah, right, Wrestling in a vacuum is way different
<v Speaker 1>than wrestling in the greater picture.
<v Speaker 2>Right, last thing here before we get into this episode
<v Speaker 2>from The Observer November seventeenth, twenty fourteen. So I was
<v Speaker 2>trying to find the rating for this first show. I
<v Speaker 2>didn't see that he said anything about it, but he
<v Speaker 2>does say lu Underground on eleven to five to twenty
<v Speaker 2>nine thousand viewers, up from about twenty thousand the week before.
<v Speaker 2>So I'm guessing you know, they had like around twenty
<v Speaker 2>thousand for the first show, which, you know, I don't
<v Speaker 2>know what the l Ray network was doing at the
<v Speaker 2>time time, but.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think it was a lot. I think that
<v Speaker 1>was not.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think it was considered it was either the
<v Speaker 2>first or second show for the network that week. So
<v Speaker 2>you know, that's obviously was doing well enough that the
<v Speaker 2>last four seasons.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, the Lray network was definitely not pulling in a
<v Speaker 1>huge numbers. It wasn't in a lot of homes. I
<v Speaker 1>didn't get it at the time.
<v Speaker 2>No, I how the fuck did I?
<v Speaker 1>Dude, you have to remember too, at the time, wow, wow, uh,
<v Speaker 1>like cable networks, people were still people still had TV.
<v Speaker 2>Like we were just.
<v Speaker 1>Coming out the side of streaming. I mean, we're still
<v Speaker 1>trying to figure out I pay per views in twenty fourteen.
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god. Yeah, Like it's not it's not there yet.
<v Speaker 2>Like WW network just starts twenty four I have.
<v Speaker 1>I was living in an apartment with my buddy and
<v Speaker 1>a girl I knew from high school.
<v Speaker 2>At the time and U okay, direct TV, maybe Time Warlable.
<v Speaker 1>We had Time Warner Cable. Oh shit, oh my god,
<v Speaker 1>we had Time Warner Cable. And I didn't get the
<v Speaker 1>LRA network, so like I would just have to you know,
<v Speaker 1>I knew how to get online, but like we didn't
<v Speaker 1>have that channel.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, which is nuts. We had all the channels, we
<v Speaker 2>just didn't have that channel. Well you should have called
<v Speaker 2>and said, I want the LRY network. I'm complaining because
<v Speaker 2>Java was on it.
<v Speaker 1>I want the RA network and I want Javo off
<v Speaker 1>the show.
<v Speaker 2>We'll get on that. I was definitely I've definitely had
<v Speaker 2>the LRA network because whatever my dad super legally had
<v Speaker 2>at the time, had.
<v Speaker 5>It, ah, right, right, whatever variation of whatever service the time,
<v Speaker 5>was definitely getting the LRA network and somehow also channels
<v Speaker 5>in Canada and England.
<v Speaker 1>He had that fire stick before the fire stick, Well.
<v Speaker 2>That is it for the observers, Just so you know,
<v Speaker 2>I don't you know, I don't know how much lu I.
<v Speaker 2>Hopefully we'll do some leuch underground in the future, but
<v Speaker 2>I figured, you know, this is the yeah, yeah, and
<v Speaker 2>not many debut episodes we have left in the vault
<v Speaker 2>here so figured get of a little refresherrow leading up
<v Speaker 2>to it. But now let's talk about Luca Underground Season one,
<v Speaker 2>episode one tape September sixth, twenty fourteenth, aired October twenty ninth,
<v Speaker 2>twenty fourteenth.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's get into Lucia Underground Season one, episode one,
<v Speaker 1>The start of a new world. Here in professional wrestling,
<v Speaker 1>we start with the cold open. A dude is fighting
<v Speaker 1>two other dudes and the numbers game is just too much.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, this is already classic wrestling.
<v Speaker 2>Dudes are kicking ass here. There's a dude in a
<v Speaker 2>hoodie and he's fighting some dudes. There's a Superman punch
<v Speaker 2>thrown until Hoodie Man they get the numbers on them
<v Speaker 2>and they start stomping his ass out. I mean, Hoodie
<v Speaker 2>Man as fucked until Mask Man shows up and Mask
<v Speaker 2>Man is here to fucking help Hoodi Man out and
<v Speaker 2>he's kicking some ass and does it tilt the world
<v Speaker 2>head scissors and a shoot arm drag and then shoot
<v Speaker 2>Wade Barretts.
<v Speaker 1>Finish airplanes spin into wasteland.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, this is uh, you know, they're they're
<v Speaker 2>they're starting off by by showing us, hey, this is
<v Speaker 2>the world that we live in or you know this,
<v Speaker 2>Luca is real here.
<v Speaker 1>The Luca door then puts his hand out to the
<v Speaker 1>guy on the ground and he says, come with me.
<v Speaker 2>Oh shit, his mouth didn't move. That was fucking awesome.
<v Speaker 2>He said it through his brain. That's how we do
<v Speaker 2>it here. It's one of the Aztec tribes. Brain tribe.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so the Aztec warriors are a big deal in
<v Speaker 1>this show. It's pretty much the basis for Lucha Libra
<v Speaker 1>in Luca Underground, which is pretty much where they kind
<v Speaker 1>of go with every character.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, everyone kind of comes from an ancient ancestor of
<v Speaker 2>an Aztec empire, and there's seven tribes. That's the idea here,
<v Speaker 2>seven tribes of their ancestors and the warriors that built
<v Speaker 2>that Aztec empire and the legacy that left behind. And
<v Speaker 2>they asked the guy in the the guy in the
<v Speaker 2>masks asked the guy in the hoodie, what do you
<v Speaker 2>know about Lucia Lebray young Blood checks them immediately, uh,
<v Speaker 2>And he says, for one hundred years, Luca has honored
<v Speaker 2>the ancient traditions of combat, and now it has our
<v Speaker 2>turned to rise. Which I wonder if that was like
<v Speaker 2>a line from the initial name Luca uprising.
<v Speaker 1>They just kept it in oh maybe yeah, which is yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah. Then we see Dario Quato's introduction. He is
<v Speaker 2>the boss in charge here el hefe. So I watched
<v Speaker 2>this when it aired, but I didn't realize that they
<v Speaker 2>did a whole thing here with Triple A, like Dario
<v Speaker 2>was at a Triple A show. I guess unless this
<v Speaker 2>was just taped for this and this that didn't have crowd,
<v Speaker 2>but they made it seem like it did. Where Dario
<v Speaker 2>Cuato says he's opening the doors to his temple to
<v Speaker 2>all of the Triple A Luca doors and he showed
<v Speaker 2>up and he wanted them to compete in America and
<v Speaker 2>he tells presumably the guy in charge of dude, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>they're fucking not thrilled. It didn't seem like and they
<v Speaker 2>he tells presumably the owner of Triple A to sign
<v Speaker 2>this contract and then walk away with all this money.
<v Speaker 2>And there's a bunch of money and the dude just
<v Speaker 2>signs it, and I'm like, oh fuck, does this dude
<v Speaker 2>just comes in and says, give me all your dudes,
<v Speaker 2>and he says yes. Uh. Then we get a shot
<v Speaker 2>of the temple for the first time we see the
<v Speaker 2>inside of it. And then uh, Prince Puma comes out
<v Speaker 2>of a cave much like Jesus. I'm not sure if
<v Speaker 2>that's what they were trying to imply there.
<v Speaker 1>And Blue Damon Jr. Was making the walk.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yes, and the mask guy asked hoodie guy if
<v Speaker 2>he'll join them, and they shake hands.
<v Speaker 1>So we get the Luca Underground quick intro. Then we
<v Speaker 1>start the show off. We have a crowd shot. I'm sorry,
<v Speaker 1>not a crowd shot. It's more of a city shot here,
<v Speaker 1>which is kind of how every show. What was the
<v Speaker 1>show that, uh that was super popular when we were
<v Speaker 1>growing up, the O Seed.
<v Speaker 2>Do you remember the O C I do remember the OC.
<v Speaker 1>The OC loved doing the overhead city shot into wherever
<v Speaker 1>the guys and girls were talking.
<v Speaker 2>They loved what was the song California be.
<v Speaker 1>Just like Bud Come on.
<v Speaker 2>It's not that fu song?
<v Speaker 1>Right?
<v Speaker 2>Okay?
<v Speaker 1>Well, it starts off with the city shot reminiscent of
<v Speaker 1>all of our yes, all of our favorite shows growing
<v Speaker 1>all of us in Jersey Shore, right. I gotta show
<v Speaker 1>the Farris Wheel and everything, right, So it shows all
<v Speaker 1>that stuff. It even gives us the classic long exposure
<v Speaker 1>shot of the cars going down the street with the lights.
<v Speaker 2>I love that the lights and.
<v Speaker 1>It gives us all the executive producers because they do
<v Speaker 1>not shy away from telling you this is a produced
<v Speaker 1>wrestling TV shot.
<v Speaker 2>Right which is you know, is I'm okay with that
<v Speaker 2>when it's presented that way. I don't like when it's
<v Speaker 2>a mixture. I don't like T and A did that
<v Speaker 2>for a bit where they were kind of mixing, like
<v Speaker 2>they actually became faux Lucha Underground when luc Underground died,
<v Speaker 2>but they were doing like a mixture of like this
<v Speaker 2>is wrestling.
<v Speaker 1>And then you're right, they did.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and like Penta was there and Phoenix was there
<v Speaker 2>and like did a lot of that. Ran the kid
<v Speaker 2>over Eddie Kingston king and I think, I think, I
<v Speaker 2>want to say, I mean, you could easily say Rosemary
<v Speaker 2>killed somebody that like probably Lucasaurs died in both companies.
<v Speaker 2>I think, wow, how about that? Yeah, they killed him
<v Speaker 2>a lot.
<v Speaker 1>Regardless, Uh, we we get the executive producer stuff here
<v Speaker 1>to uh to start the show, and then of course
<v Speaker 1>the shot eventually pans around the city until it gets
<v Speaker 1>to the Luca Underground sign, which is above the Temple
<v Speaker 1>Temple which is I believe a warehouse in La So
<v Speaker 1>it's like correct, it's Quato's temple was the way he does.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's supposed to be like a tongue in
<v Speaker 1>cheek thing. But this is a very legendary sign. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>this is I mean, whenever I see someone talk about
<v Speaker 1>Luca Underground, it's usually a picture accompanied by this fucking sign.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, they had a big banner above the temple I thought,
<v Speaker 2>I mean, cool as fuck. I mean, like, like I
<v Speaker 2>mentioned the Observer, supposedly this was not very fun to
<v Speaker 2>be inside of, but it did have the gritty underground
<v Speaker 2>feel for a show called Luke Underground, like this is
<v Speaker 2>probably exactly where they should be.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we pan into the building. I mean, the crowd
<v Speaker 1>is standing up, they're cheering, there's a band playing. Matt
<v Speaker 1>Striker and Vampiro are here. They're the commentators for Luca Underground,
<v Speaker 1>which sounds insane, I mean when you say it now
<v Speaker 1>in twenty twenty six, Matt Striker and Vampiro are the commentators.
<v Speaker 2>And Matt Striker was obviously released by WWE I believe,
<v Speaker 2>I think that's what happened. And then, like you know,
<v Speaker 2>he was always known as a guy that he loved
<v Speaker 2>wrestling and like he was passionate about it, and I
<v Speaker 2>don't know, at some point it I ended up not
<v Speaker 2>liking it. But I remember the early season the Lutonic Ground.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, Okay, this guy like gives a fuck
<v Speaker 2>about this, and like the way he kind of gives
<v Speaker 2>inside here. There's something he says later in the main event.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, Okay, that's cool, Like I kind of
<v Speaker 2>like what he's doing in Vampiro, Like there's still obviously,
<v Speaker 2>like this is show one, they're still trying to like
<v Speaker 2>get their footing with each other. There's a lot of
<v Speaker 2>edits on the show in general. But I was like, okay,
<v Speaker 2>like I could see this fucking working out.
<v Speaker 1>They got to figure out the mic levels, dude.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, Vampiro's eating his mic. Matt Striker, you know,
<v Speaker 2>Matt Striker worked awe, so I think he fucking got
<v Speaker 2>it and his is fine, but like Vampiro is eating
<v Speaker 2>his mic. Then they have a camera on them on
<v Speaker 2>the table that's like blown out shit, Like I don't
<v Speaker 2>even know why they used it.
<v Speaker 1>I like the camera reminds me of the UFC camera
<v Speaker 1>when it shows Rogan and DC and stuff. Oh, it's
<v Speaker 1>not supposed to be as high quality as the rest.
<v Speaker 1>It's supposed to be like an inside shot, like check
<v Speaker 1>this out.
<v Speaker 2>As bright as fucked it is. It is.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, the levels are nuts, but yeah, Vampiro, I mean
<v Speaker 1>pretty much throughout the whole show is pretty much peaking
<v Speaker 1>as Mike to the point in the name that like
<v Speaker 1>it peaks so loud it cuts them off, dude.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, there's definitely some stuff they retape with them
<v Speaker 2>because this lines are getting garbled.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that sucks. And I know, like that's like one
<v Speaker 1>of those deals where like after you're finished because you
<v Speaker 1>just can't save.
<v Speaker 2>That, you just can't say and.
<v Speaker 1>You don't know, right, and so you're like, oh, man,
<v Speaker 1>I did not know that the levels were this fucked.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe it was a deal. Maybe it's a deal where
<v Speaker 1>they wanted to be. It's supposed to be like an
<v Speaker 1>underground deal and maybe like it's supposed to be gritty
<v Speaker 1>and like we don't care about audio levels here, We're
<v Speaker 1>just here to bring the excitement to you. That was
<v Speaker 1>kind of deals or you know, the deal was fuck,
<v Speaker 1>the levels were not set.
<v Speaker 2>We're forgetting that, I I mean, and to defend them,
<v Speaker 2>which you know, they obviously had a much much, much, much,
<v Speaker 2>much much much larger budget than we ever even got
<v Speaker 2>to blink at. But doing if you know, any kind
<v Speaker 2>of audio stuff at all at a live event is
<v Speaker 2>fucking hard. It's like, you'll, it's so hard. Yeah, it's
<v Speaker 2>I mean, James spent years trying to figure it out,
<v Speaker 2>and you know we still weren't always exactly.
<v Speaker 1>Every show, I was learning something new to like improve
<v Speaker 1>the audio.
<v Speaker 2>And even then, yeah, like so like, you know, for
<v Speaker 2>the commentary thing, it's like, yeah, well, you know, they
<v Speaker 2>should have tested it, testing it before the show and
<v Speaker 2>test like what's happening when you have a crowd and
<v Speaker 2>a ring and all this shit going on, and the
<v Speaker 2>levels of the fucking guys on the mic before and
<v Speaker 2>during the show are night and a completely different yep yep.
<v Speaker 2>So like I you know again, but they do have
<v Speaker 2>a much bigger budget than we ever did, Like you know,
<v Speaker 2>they sure gets the level it does. It probably doesn't
<v Speaker 2>last more than fucking a show or two. Really, Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>when they show Matt Striker and Vampio commentary, Vampio does
<v Speaker 2>the all the way down, all the way down.
<v Speaker 1>So we start with the Dario Quota town Hall Uh,
<v Speaker 1>he comes into the ring here, and uh, Vampiro explains
<v Speaker 1>to us that he's not Mexican, He's Spanish, so people
<v Speaker 1>don't like him. That's why they.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, this all was like to me. So Dario
<v Speaker 2>comes in the ring like you said, and Matt Schreker says, Vampire,
<v Speaker 2>what do you know about him? Because I don't really
<v Speaker 2>know nothing about this guy? Okay, you guys like all right,
<v Speaker 2>like I you know, I'm suspending, disbelieve you guys fucking
<v Speaker 2>work here. Tell me you don't know this guy at all?
<v Speaker 2>How's that? Why do you work here? Then? And yeah,
<v Speaker 2>like you said, Vampio explains why I don't like him,
<v Speaker 2>and Dario Aquato says, my name is Dario Aquato, Elliah.
<v Speaker 2>I'm the owner of promoter of luch Underground. He's opened
<v Speaker 2>his doors to the best fighters from all over the world,
<v Speaker 2>and he's given them an opportunity to kick ass or
<v Speaker 2>get their ass kick. I said, this is fucking awesome,
<v Speaker 2>all right, cool. This is not a stadium where the
<v Speaker 2>children can share for the heroes. This is at temple
<v Speaker 2>where we honor ancient traditions like courage and honor and
<v Speaker 2>fuck John Sata like you know they want it so
<v Speaker 2>bad to be just a full on anti WWE show here.
<v Speaker 1>Yes guaranteed commentary really hamfested.
<v Speaker 2>Later too, he says that his personal favorite tradition is violence,
<v Speaker 2>which becomes a major theme and Dario it's so funny
<v Speaker 2>because I want I'm pretty sure I watch until season three.
<v Speaker 2>I think spoilers, major spoilers here, cover your ears if
<v Speaker 2>you don't want to know. But I think I stopped
<v Speaker 2>watching when they killed they shot and killed Cuato. I
<v Speaker 2>don't know if you even know this, James the shoot
<v Speaker 2>and kill Darioquato. Uh and then his dad shows up
<v Speaker 2>to run the temple, which is just Dario in like
<v Speaker 2>a crazy fucking week.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah hmmm.
<v Speaker 2>So like at that point I was, and I think
<v Speaker 2>they changed. They go to a different temple because I
<v Speaker 2>think they got kicked out of the last place. And
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, I don't really love this as much. I
<v Speaker 2>you know, three seasons, I gave it a lot, so
<v Speaker 2>like I'm gonna fucking I'm gonna tape. Yeah, but you know,
<v Speaker 2>Dario is a character I grow to love. I love Darioquato.
<v Speaker 2>He still does shit, right, He's in a fucking MLW.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that's right. He's in MLW. I'm not too sure
<v Speaker 1>what he's doing there, but uh, I think it's something. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think it's something similar to walking around with a
<v Speaker 1>briefcase full of money.
<v Speaker 2>Though probably demanding violence, I imagine, because that's when he does
<v Speaker 2>this whole fucking story. He uh. He also says, by
<v Speaker 2>the way, speaking of the briefcase, that the luchador who
<v Speaker 2>impresses him the most will get a signing, and he
<v Speaker 2>opens up the briefcase one hundred thousand dollars. So here's
<v Speaker 2>your chance to get rich or die trying.
<v Speaker 1>I see what he did there. Yeah, that's fifty.
<v Speaker 2>Who's gonna be here tonight? He's performing many.
<v Speaker 1>Man, Wow, that would have been fucking sick.
<v Speaker 2>What a good gimmick though, like fucking already set in
<v Speaker 2>some steaks like they don't have titles yet, but listen,
<v Speaker 2>you show up, you show out. You got one hundred
<v Speaker 2>thousand dollars. You tell me Super Dragon didn't one hundred
<v Speaker 2>thousand dollars.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, Ricky Reyez really needed that money. He
<v Speaker 1>will be here tonight.
<v Speaker 2>Well, he says. The first match represents the foundation of
<v Speaker 2>Lucca Libra because the men competing in it have Luca
<v Speaker 2>in their blood. One of them is good and one
<v Speaker 2>of them sucks. Shit. Welcome to lich Underground.
<v Speaker 1>Matt Schriker on commentary here says, you won't have six
<v Speaker 1>year olds running around in bright T shirts. This is Luca.
<v Speaker 2>Under Who is that about? Oh just the kids that
<v Speaker 2>like John.
<v Speaker 1>C Yeah, so it was, yeah, the John Cena deal
<v Speaker 1>in h twenty fourteen. At the time, people were just
<v Speaker 1>begging for something different.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, sure, and uh, I mean John Cena showing up
<v Speaker 2>pure to get one hundred thousand dollars would have fucking
<v Speaker 2>been awesome. Though.
<v Speaker 1>Didn't John Cena wear a mask one time?
<v Speaker 2>He was wan Sena because he got fired.
<v Speaker 1>Oh with the purple mask?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, that's right.
<v Speaker 1>He should have come here and beat the fuck out
<v Speaker 1>of Matt.
<v Speaker 2>Striker, put him in the fucking SDF on the announced table,
<v Speaker 2>which is very tiny, so it would have looked ridiculous.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, he should have did that. And then he
<v Speaker 2>should have piled driven Tavo off the apron. And then.
<v Speaker 1>He goes and he beats mass Striker up and he
<v Speaker 1>takes Chava by the leg and drags him out of
<v Speaker 1>the temple. All right, so I'm gonna take this guy
<v Speaker 1>to you guys, have a good time.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you. Cina can a back to backdown. I got
<v Speaker 2>something for his asks.
<v Speaker 1>So the first match of the evening here, first match
<v Speaker 1>of the promotion is Blue DeMont Junior versus Chavo Guerrero Junior.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Blue Demon Junior cool as fuck. I mean they
<v Speaker 2>run down his history and his dad's history and all
<v Speaker 2>that stuff, and uh, you know, Javo gets the same
<v Speaker 2>thing here, just talking about the Guerrero family and uh
<v Speaker 2>fucking you know, first match, and I can't say, like
<v Speaker 2>it's tough. This probably isn't a the wrong idea, right, Like,
<v Speaker 2>start with two luchadors, like one's a fucking famous luchador
<v Speaker 2>and one's a guy that people would know that if
<v Speaker 2>they watched. We like, this probably isn't wrong, But man,
<v Speaker 2>not the match you probably should start with. They should
<v Speaker 2>have moved some shit around to her.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think Luca Underground was going for I mean,
<v Speaker 1>as we mentioned the observer segment, they were looking for
<v Speaker 1>that PWG style at the time, you know, fast action,
<v Speaker 1>big bombs. I guess I agree with you. I totally
<v Speaker 1>understand where they were going with this.
<v Speaker 2>Right.
<v Speaker 1>So, Blue Damon is a legend in Lucha Libre right
<v Speaker 1>and Chavo. I mean, you know, for all it's worth too.
<v Speaker 1>I mean he is, he's been around a very long time,
<v Speaker 1>and like a lot of the American audience knows him too,
<v Speaker 1>So I can understand the idea they're going for here
<v Speaker 1>where Blue Damon beats them. You know, people understand like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>so we can explain to the audience who this guy is.
<v Speaker 1>He can beat a guy that they know a lot about,
<v Speaker 1>and it's a match we can post about and people
<v Speaker 1>are like, oh, okay, I chop I know Chava right right,
<v Speaker 1>But damn would have been coolest shit too if you
<v Speaker 1>just started this show off with like just an absurd
<v Speaker 1>Luca's showcase or something.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, like oh this is like you know, you know
<v Speaker 2>the history of Luca. There's one hundred years of history.
<v Speaker 2>Well this is what Luca is now. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So, I mean it was probably a decision. It was
<v Speaker 1>probably a game day decision on how they wanted to
<v Speaker 1>kick this fucking open it match off. But yeah, just
<v Speaker 1>a standard match here between Demon and Chava.
<v Speaker 2>I mean Chava probably walked up and said I.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, probably so. Chava Guerrera Junior makes his entrance between
<v Speaker 1>the bleachers, while Blue Damont comes through the top down
<v Speaker 1>the staircase. I liked that they came from different locations.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if that was always like a face
<v Speaker 2>heel thing, but I think it was kind of maybe
<v Speaker 2>implied at times here.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, so the face comes through the crowd because he yeah,
<v Speaker 1>you know, the people that the guy that people would
<v Speaker 1>want to see, and the heel comes through this area
<v Speaker 1>that's kind of separated from the crowd. I can understand that.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think that's always the case, but I think
<v Speaker 2>that's like a often that way.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, just a year prior, Chava won that fucking
<v Speaker 1>fired briefcase at TIA, and like I know we've talked
<v Speaker 1>about on this show for people who don't know, Chava
<v Speaker 1>won the fired briefcase and the feasts are fired Matt TNA,
<v Speaker 1>which is a match that TNA would do with a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of briefcases, and they'd all have title matches in
<v Speaker 1>the briefcases, and whatever briefcase you got, you would find
<v Speaker 1>out what title you get to fight for. Uh, and
<v Speaker 1>then one of them had a fired.
<v Speaker 2>Again Nick Nay were all good except.
<v Speaker 1>One except for one, and you would get released from TNA.
<v Speaker 1>It's a gimmick, except for this time where Chava Grera
<v Speaker 1>won the fired briefcase and then TNA tried to use
<v Speaker 1>that as a reason to actually release them from his
<v Speaker 1>contract let.
<v Speaker 2>Him go because.
<v Speaker 1>Like Chava, like Chava, Legit had to get his lawyer involved,
<v Speaker 1>like because they were Legit trying to do that, and
<v Speaker 1>then he ended up leaving.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, like, hey, we wrote you off like you.
<v Speaker 1>You don't got no more dates for you?
<v Speaker 2>Dude, What do you want us to do? You just
<v Speaker 2>got fired on this show? The fuck?
<v Speaker 1>Do you want to come back his creyman too.
<v Speaker 2>He's super Eric or we'll fill that role too if
<v Speaker 2>you want, We will recast you. Let us know if
<v Speaker 2>you would.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. So Rick Knox is the referee for this match.
<v Speaker 1>Longtime PWG ref Rick Knox has an arm cast on.
<v Speaker 2>Do you remember why?
<v Speaker 1>Because at Bola with Rod Yeah at Bola, Yeah, which
<v Speaker 1>was you mentioned it in the observers. It was just
<v Speaker 1>a few weeks.
<v Speaker 2>Back, yeah, if not a week. Yeah, Roderick fucks him
<v Speaker 2>up and he breaks his like arm or his collar
<v Speaker 2>like and I think he fucks his collarbone up too.
<v Speaker 1>Pretty nuts. They still they plan on a.
<v Speaker 2>Commentary like, Hey, why do we have a referee that's
<v Speaker 2>fucking got a broke arm or anything. He's just on
<v Speaker 2>the show, just has the cast on. Yeah, yeah, which
<v Speaker 2>is awesome. I'll take you. Yeah, knocks is sweet.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, if you're gonna give a gimmick to
<v Speaker 1>the refee, had the Bob Wharton gimmick. He just always
<v Speaker 1>wears this cast.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think he does, sadly, I think he does eventually.
<v Speaker 2>That'd be all the hard knocks. Oh wow, that would
<v Speaker 2>be pretty interesting.
<v Speaker 1>Actually he uses it eventually.
<v Speaker 2>They they're using all the local so Cala refs here too,
<v Speaker 2>which are pretty much you know, Peter BG uses some already,
<v Speaker 2>Elias Rick Knox or the refs.
<v Speaker 1>Here, which is cool. I mean, in the grand scheme
<v Speaker 1>of wrestling, like the West Coast gets the short end
<v Speaker 1>of the stick a lot because it's just so isolated
<v Speaker 1>from everything. And uh yeah, I mean, so it was
<v Speaker 1>very cool to be able to like see like just
<v Speaker 1>a bunch of guys from the West Coast get used
<v Speaker 1>in this product.
<v Speaker 2>Kicked ass Yeah Lujah.
<v Speaker 1>Underground also has guys standing on the boxes filming above
<v Speaker 1>the ropes, which gave it a different look.
<v Speaker 2>I wrote that there's their double box here. Usually, you know,
<v Speaker 2>I'm used to WW one. They got the two boxes,
<v Speaker 2>I like it.
<v Speaker 1>On each side. Yeah, and they didn't mind being in
<v Speaker 1>the shot.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I was surprised by that.
<v Speaker 2>No, dude, there's the okay, So that was it tilted
<v Speaker 2>me for a second, just because, like I'm just so
<v Speaker 2>used to it. Like there was fucking roamors on hardcam side.
<v Speaker 1>I said, right, I mean they had roamers on the floor,
<v Speaker 1>they had roamers on the boxes. I mean, there's a
<v Speaker 1>lot of cameras.
<v Speaker 2>They had overhead shots shots.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, dude, the overhead shot was cool led to some
<v Speaker 1>like pretty creative shots during this match.
<v Speaker 2>There's one in the main that's fucking pretty awesome during
<v Speaker 2>like a falsey of the overhead shot. Yeah, I mean
<v Speaker 2>they're they're trying a lot of shit here, dude, Like
<v Speaker 2>that's why that's what especially, you know, like I said,
<v Speaker 2>I I would just hooked just because it was something new.
<v Speaker 2>But you know, they were trying to do a lot
<v Speaker 2>of shit that you weren't seeing on other shows WWE
<v Speaker 2>or DNA or r o H.
<v Speaker 1>They cut the camera a ton in this show.
<v Speaker 2>Also, there is a lot of editing on.
<v Speaker 1>I mean even when it's not being edited, like even
<v Speaker 1>when they're not putting the match shorter or whatever the
<v Speaker 1>case they were trying to do, there's just cutting to anything,
<v Speaker 1>oh everything.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, we're just.
<v Speaker 1>We're just shifting angles for no reason. Most of the time.
<v Speaker 2>It felt it definitely was on purpose, because that that
<v Speaker 2>doesn't go away.
<v Speaker 1>It was just how wrestling was at the time. WB
<v Speaker 1>was the same way, like TNA was the same way.
<v Speaker 1>Like they were just cutting angles a ton, you know,
<v Speaker 1>and it was just you know, one or two eighty
<v Speaker 1>ninety times man, Like, yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I think they thought it made it feel faster.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I can I can see that. I can see
<v Speaker 1>the thought process behind that.
<v Speaker 2>Right, it's right.
<v Speaker 1>But like, yeah, I mean ten years later, chilli out. Sure, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>you know, with hindsight, chill out.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>So we start off here with Chavo and Blue Damon. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>we kind of just have a fifty to fifty match here.
<v Speaker 1>No one really gets the upper hand on each other
<v Speaker 1>throughout this one. It's a very evenly, evenly fought match
<v Speaker 1>till we get to the finish here. Vampiro says that
<v Speaker 1>Chavo is like the redheaded step child. What does that mean.
<v Speaker 2>I didn't understand this at first. There says he's like
<v Speaker 2>the redheaded stepchild when he walks into a locker room
<v Speaker 2>with that name. He's got heat, and you know, people
<v Speaker 2>really only liked Eddie. Wait, I wasn't.
<v Speaker 1>I wasn't sure if Chava was supposed to be a
<v Speaker 1>heel until Vampiro just started shipping on him on commentary.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, yeah, dude, people do not funk with
<v Speaker 2>the Guerreros. Oh ship's nott for Eddie.
<v Speaker 1>Awesome and everyone liked him.
<v Speaker 2>Dude, there's another fucking funny commentary thing. Matt Striker keeps
<v Speaker 2>calling him, uh, Damon, which you know, is how it said,
<v Speaker 2>and it's it's it sounded like he was trying to
<v Speaker 2>say it like to Vampiro to like be like, oh yeah,
<v Speaker 2>hey look this is like how we say it, right,
<v Speaker 2>And he says Damon, and Vampiro says, yeah, man, demon
<v Speaker 2>is pretty kick ass.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that's Demon.
<v Speaker 2>You might know miss Demon.
<v Speaker 1>So Travo hits a house show here. Uh Chavo then
<v Speaker 1>gets crotched by Damon. Matt Striker, Yeah, this is funny
<v Speaker 1>as ship. So Chavo gets crotched and then Matt Striker
<v Speaker 1>randomly just says, there's Rick Knox looking like Mills Lane.
<v Speaker 2>Chavo like his ass over tea kettle, almost falling on
<v Speaker 2>the top of his head and talking about sure you're
<v Speaker 2>talking about him being bald.
<v Speaker 1>There's Rick Knox looking like Mill's Lane. Oh there wasn't
<v Speaker 1>like a follow up, all right.
<v Speaker 2>Nor you know he have a little levity here underground.
<v Speaker 1>We're not going to mention the cast. We're just gonna
<v Speaker 1>say it looks like Mills Lane, right, just.
<v Speaker 2>A bald white guy. I'll come on down.
<v Speaker 1>So Damon misses a as demon in me. He misses
<v Speaker 1>a flipping sent on and Chavo gets it too, and brother, dude, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>Damon does the flip off the top of this ship.
<v Speaker 1>Was funny as ship. He misses the flipping sent on,
<v Speaker 1>Chavo gets the two Chavo uh like, he gets up
<v Speaker 1>off of him and mats Shriker on commentary says, is
<v Speaker 1>Travo gonna be one hundred thousand dollars? Richard, No, I
<v Speaker 1>thought this was about having a good match and being impressive.
<v Speaker 1>I is it about being impressive or is it about?
<v Speaker 1>At no point is Chava gonna be winning that one?
<v Speaker 1>Hundred thousand dollars recrdialists whatever whatever, whatever, like, the deal
<v Speaker 1>is here. Chava is not winning that money. So no
<v Speaker 1>he's not because after this match, later on in the evening,
<v Speaker 1>Daria washt off till him and says, we'll get there,
<v Speaker 1>We'll get there, We get there.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Uh. Chavo goes for frankenstein Er all the top rope here,
<v Speaker 1>but Damon holds on and then power bombs them off
<v Speaker 1>the second for it too.
<v Speaker 2>That was sick.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that was cool. Daimon then puts on the scorpion
<v Speaker 1>deathlock and Chavo taps out.
<v Speaker 2>They said that was his dad's move. I didn't know
<v Speaker 2>he was a son of.
<v Speaker 1>That's cool.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, fucking kick ass the Blue Demons. Fucking dad is
<v Speaker 2>a stinger.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, loves fucking Jim Carrey and shit, that's cool me too, man.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Travo taps out, and uh, that's that's the history books.
<v Speaker 2>The first match in Lucia Underground History, uh televised at least,
<v Speaker 2>was Blue Damon beating Chavo Guerrero so vampire.
<v Speaker 1>At the end of this match, also, it sounded like
<v Speaker 1>you know when you lose in a video game and
<v Speaker 1>you get the game over screen and it fades, and
<v Speaker 1>then the screen pops up with rematch or exit match
<v Speaker 1>and the game drops like a one liner right there.
<v Speaker 1>I swear to god, that's what this felt like. Chavo out.
<v Speaker 1>There's like super canned audio vampire that comes over and says,
<v Speaker 1>damn Chato tupped out. We're family. Ain't gonna be feeling
<v Speaker 1>that at.
<v Speaker 2>All, dude. Oh my god, it's such like a death jam.
<v Speaker 2>Fucking dude.
<v Speaker 1>I was waiting for like the rematch or exit match
<v Speaker 1>or back the menu button to pop up or something
<v Speaker 1>like it was.
<v Speaker 2>Game over, you lost. That happens this whole fucking show, dude.
<v Speaker 1>So we get a pre tape after the opening match
<v Speaker 1>here Dario is here with Conan.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah Dario, uh, says Conan. So glad you're here. They're
<v Speaker 2>going to talk about us than the Observer now, huh
<v Speaker 2>Hey Conan.
<v Speaker 1>First things first, No, I haven't listened to pod yet,
<v Speaker 1>but I am happy that you're here working for me.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and like anything that bad happens back here. I
<v Speaker 2>mean you can report whatever you want, buddy, Like that's
<v Speaker 2>totally cool to me.
<v Speaker 1>Everything here's will work, dude, Yeah, do whatever you want.
<v Speaker 2>Get Wizard's bizarre. So yeah, Conan says, listen, I don't
<v Speaker 2>know about working for you, but I'm interested in that
<v Speaker 2>money you're throwing around. But saying about me, you know,
<v Speaker 2>you're looking for one of the best fighters in the world.
<v Speaker 2>Look out that window. At first, I thought he was
<v Speaker 2>being literal, like I thought he was saying, there's dudes
<v Speaker 2>on the street that are better than the guys. Just dude,
<v Speaker 2>you can pick from Ricky Reis is out there, a
<v Speaker 2>little chol other tod You better pick these dud dudes.
<v Speaker 1>They're coming here anyways.
<v Speaker 2>But he meant from like look outside like because the
<v Speaker 2>guy who's talking about is from this area. He says,
<v Speaker 2>you know, he's one of the best fighters in the world,
<v Speaker 2>is right from here. And Dario says, listen, there's Luca
<v Speaker 2>Doors that might feel differently. In fact, I just signed
<v Speaker 2>a deal with the biggest former free agent in the business.
<v Speaker 2>He's a man that goes by many names, but here
<v Speaker 2>he will be known as Johnny Moondo mucha Luca fucking guys.
<v Speaker 1>Dude, I love the name Johnny Moondo.
<v Speaker 2>I do too.
<v Speaker 1>I actually, I actually like I'm not a big John
<v Speaker 1>Morrison guy had never really been a big John Morrison guy.
<v Speaker 1>But I was interested to see what he's going to
<v Speaker 1>do here because I know he is a big deal here.
<v Speaker 1>And Johnny Mundo is I love that name. I just
<v Speaker 1>can't get enough. Dude, that's Johnny Mundo right there.
<v Speaker 2>Not only is the name great, dude, his run here
<v Speaker 2>is actually awesome, especially when they turn him. He was
<v Speaker 2>fucking They got him in Taya and Justin Gabriel and
<v Speaker 2>Jack Evans and they're all just fucking assholes.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm interested to see, Like, I think a lot
<v Speaker 1>of his a lot of his like buzz and a
<v Speaker 1>lot of his good will came from this running lucha underground,
<v Speaker 1>So I haven't seen it. I'm interested to see, like
<v Speaker 1>my thoughts on it once we get further into this show.
<v Speaker 2>So Dario says I signed him only to make an
<v Speaker 2>example out of him, which I was like, Oh, that's fuck.
<v Speaker 2>It pretty cool because you know Moonda's it's gonna be
<v Speaker 2>a top baby. He says he doesn't respect my temple
<v Speaker 2>and he's here for the money and the fame. And
<v Speaker 2>if your man is as good as he says he is,
<v Speaker 2>have him make an example of Johnny Hey, and if
<v Speaker 2>he does, perhaps one hundred thousand dollars will go to
<v Speaker 2>him and you. And Conan likes that because he likes
<v Speaker 2>himself some money. So we got our main event, Johnny
<v Speaker 2>Mundo and uh, soon to be named the other guy. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>could be anybody Cody brings in stone Cold.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I got a guy. So we go into a
<v Speaker 1>pre tape here we see a Lucha door wrestling in
<v Speaker 1>a ring as Cony and coaches him from ringside.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And we learn a little bit more here about one
<v Speaker 1>of the faces of this show, Prince Puma, and.
<v Speaker 2>He's I mean, this is the guy, right, This is
<v Speaker 2>like their money right here is Prince Puma. They put
<v Speaker 2>a lot into him, and I mean, fucking not a
<v Speaker 2>bad guy to go with, I gotta say, because goddamn
<v Speaker 2>he like encompasses, you know, other than fucking probably Penta
<v Speaker 2>in Phoenix, Like, Prince Puma is like the face of
<v Speaker 2>this place.
<v Speaker 1>Twenty fourteen. Ricochet is awesome too.
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god, Yes, dude, he's yeah, like on all cylinders.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I mean he was unbelievable in PWG. He
<v Speaker 1>got in great shape, by the way, Yeah, I mean
<v Speaker 1>he's unbelievably ripped. Yeah, he looks great.
<v Speaker 2>Conan says, the true legend of Luca doesn't run through
<v Speaker 2>his veins, it runs in him, and it shows Prince Uma,
<v Speaker 2>and he says he heard his family talking about seven
<v Speaker 2>Astac tribes and how they all had their own champion
<v Speaker 2>and the original luchadors. When a luchador loses in battle,
<v Speaker 2>more than his honor was taken way before Game of Thrones,
<v Speaker 2>he says, Astag luchadors would claim the head of their opponent,
<v Speaker 2>which is why the mask has become a symbol of
<v Speaker 2>life in our sport. The luchador loses his mask, he
<v Speaker 2>loses everything. I mean, they could have went real crazy
<v Speaker 2>with this, Like they could have been cutting dude's heads
<v Speaker 2>off all the time if they wanted to.
<v Speaker 1>Well, they shoot Daria Equado in the head.
<v Speaker 2>I guess they did kill Lucasaurusts. They legit cut his
<v Speaker 2>head off, so I guess that's fucking fair. I do.
<v Speaker 1>By the way, I love that they brought that up
<v Speaker 1>because I think to a lot of the American audience too.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, even when were watching WCW. You remember when
<v Speaker 1>we watched Nitro, I think it was and Larry's Ubisco
<v Speaker 1>was like trying to have a hard time trying to
<v Speaker 1>yang to American fans.
<v Speaker 2>The mask is so.
<v Speaker 1>Revered import Lujah Libre. I love that they like gave
<v Speaker 1>it a pretty simple like explanation that ties into the
<v Speaker 1>show here, so like automatically, it gives so much meaning
<v Speaker 1>to the audience watching.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, like I understand like the importance of the mask
<v Speaker 2>thing too, right, like even how long I've been watching wrestling.
<v Speaker 2>But the explanation of like this is like getting your
<v Speaker 2>fucking head cut off, is like, oh, I immediately understand
<v Speaker 2>that this is like the most important thing in the world.
<v Speaker 1>Actually, yeah, it ties into the show's like deal very
<v Speaker 1>very quickly. It was a good idea to do that.
<v Speaker 2>They're showing shots here Prince Puma doing some shit. I mean,
<v Speaker 2>he kicks this dude so hard in the fucking head
<v Speaker 2>for the slow mo shot. I hope that does paid
<v Speaker 2>decently for that.
<v Speaker 1>So we come out of the pre tape here we
<v Speaker 1>have Son of Havoc and he is taking on Sexy Star.
<v Speaker 1>That caught me off guard. So Son of Havoc is here.
<v Speaker 1>That's m Dog twenty. They got him under a deal here,
<v Speaker 1>which is all awesome that he got a spot on
<v Speaker 1>this show. I thought that was very cool.
<v Speaker 2>He becomes a mainstay as well, like he's especially in
<v Speaker 2>the Trio's division. Here he becomes a figure wet dog. Yeah, dude,
<v Speaker 2>we fucking m Dog. One of the first DPW world
<v Speaker 2>title matches was pretty cool bo Jack versus m Dog
<v Speaker 2>twenty and he was cool ship but that was.
<v Speaker 1>Dude, he was awesome. Yeah, what a what a good dude.
<v Speaker 1>Sexy Star makes her entrance. She comes through the crowd
<v Speaker 1>and she's got the DPW Women's World Champion maught what
<v Speaker 1>the fuck?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah thinking of me? And they do a whole Sexy
<v Speaker 2>Star high video here. I mean, they are getting her
<v Speaker 2>over huge here and they push her to the moon.
<v Speaker 2>Vampire says, she's like a rock star in Mexico. She's
<v Speaker 2>won world titles wrestling in Japan. I guess on Havoc's
<v Speaker 2>a piece of fucking shit. We don't get to find
<v Speaker 2>out anything about him. He's which could be anybody, Dandy Havoc.
<v Speaker 1>Rock right, We're really listening for that guy to come in.
<v Speaker 2>So they show a Sexy Star video where she says
<v Speaker 2>when she looked in the mirror, she saw a woman
<v Speaker 2>that was afraid, but her mask saved her life. And
<v Speaker 2>Luca Libray called to her, and it showed her that
<v Speaker 2>women are as strong as men and tough as men,
<v Speaker 2>and sometimes can kick ass better than men. And uh,
<v Speaker 2>you know, it's a fucking inspirational story something everybody can
<v Speaker 2>get behind. I get that here, and uh, we come back,
<v Speaker 2>and some Havocs immediately taken the mic.
<v Speaker 1>What the fuck, dude, he left raider voice on.
<v Speaker 2>That's fucking the best way to describe it, raider voice.
<v Speaker 2>So son Havoc has the mic and he says, before
<v Speaker 2>you get all sorry, I'm not wrestling a warburn. Vampiro
<v Speaker 2>says that arrogant bastard, Havac says, want you to do
<v Speaker 2>yourself favor, get yourself counted out and live to fight
<v Speaker 2>another day. Imagine if that's legit what they did. But
<v Speaker 2>she just said a fuck.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, that's the son of Abba.
<v Speaker 2>That you got anything to show for his backstory because
<v Speaker 2>he was killing.
<v Speaker 1>Du Yeah right, I mean his dad's Havoc is a.
<v Speaker 2>Legend motorcycles rights. Right.
<v Speaker 1>He was known as Harley Davidson.
<v Speaker 2>In the which we found out was a real guy.
<v Speaker 1>Son of Harley david Son. Didn't work.
<v Speaker 2>Well, that was you know, like Luke Chop Rising was
<v Speaker 2>the first name son of Harley David Soon was like
<v Speaker 2>pitched it kind of a lot hard to chant.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, So Sexy Star looks at him like are you serious?
<v Speaker 1>And uh, you know, I'm not going to exit the
<v Speaker 1>ring and do this, But then she does. She steps
<v Speaker 1>out of the ring and Havoc looks back at her
<v Speaker 1>and says, I'm not gonna sit back.
<v Speaker 2>That's serious. Wow, that is the fun? Was that? Why
<v Speaker 2>did that? It went on for so long?
<v Speaker 1>But Sexy Star then runs back in and tries to
<v Speaker 1>jump Havoc, but it backfires. Havoc kind of beats her ass.
<v Speaker 2>She tries to get the one up on him and
<v Speaker 2>she's but she's resilient. He keeps shoving her off, but
<v Speaker 2>she is resilient.
<v Speaker 1>Sexy Star slabs Havoc, and this is where I'm realizing
<v Speaker 1>now that every slap sounds like a gunshot in this place.
<v Speaker 2>Like that is forever, by the way, every superkick, every anything,
<v Speaker 2>you're getting a slap on, You're getting the the fu
<v Speaker 2>weed whacker, the kendowstick sound.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, dude, it's super loud. Yeah, Sexy Star is stringing
<v Speaker 1>some shit together here, but Havoc just hits a back
<v Speaker 1>breaker and it's kind of like Nightfall in a way
<v Speaker 1>main style backbreaker here and picks up the wind.
<v Speaker 2>I uh, okay, I was confused. They like her losing.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not confused about Like I get it, like that's
<v Speaker 2>gonna get fucking paid off obviously, right, but like how
<v Speaker 2>short this was and he gets a normal pinfall on her,
<v Speaker 2>and Matt Shreker says, Havo wins by pulling the tights.
<v Speaker 2>All right, Well, I mean he tried.
<v Speaker 1>He tried to pull the tights. I don't know if
<v Speaker 1>you noticed, but he picked her leg up and tried
<v Speaker 1>to grab her gear.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, but it definitely does not it just like a
<v Speaker 2>deep regular pin.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Well yeah, dude, short fucking match. Didn't like that either,
<v Speaker 2>didn't really Again, I get where it goes, right, it's
<v Speaker 2>it'll pay off and it'll be fucking j went brother
<v Speaker 2>some fucking app because I did read. Meltzer originally said
<v Speaker 2>that this was like a he got a report that
<v Speaker 2>it was a two out of three, or they just
<v Speaker 2>were like filmed multiple matches. So either this was supposed
<v Speaker 2>to be longer and it got cut crazy or it
<v Speaker 2>kept going poorly.
<v Speaker 1>It'd be funny as shit if like sexy stars, like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm not gonna lose tonight. So they're like, okay, it's
<v Speaker 1>two out of three falls and then the one fall
<v Speaker 1>where he beat her they just used that. Yeah, Wow,
<v Speaker 1>that'd be nuts.
<v Speaker 2>That would be fucking awesome. What a great idea.
<v Speaker 1>Well, it shows a graphic of Johnny Mundo and Prince
<v Speaker 1>Puma's main event later on this evening.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Johnnymundo returns of the ring after three years. Why lie,
<v Speaker 2>why why? Like this show's definitely for smart fans, Like,
<v Speaker 2>why would you just fucking pretend I don't get it? Well,
<v Speaker 2>that's Johnny Mundo, you know, who wrestled three years ago.
<v Speaker 2>Of course.
<v Speaker 1>As the Flea. So we go to a pre tape
<v Speaker 1>here Chavo is sweaty and uh the screen, a silver
<v Speaker 1>briefcase slides across the room and Chavo looks down and
<v Speaker 1>he says, please.
<v Speaker 2>No, would you like to see my briefcase? Java?
<v Speaker 1>No, that didn't have it. It should have happened. That
<v Speaker 1>would have been very fun. Dario comes in and he says, uh,
<v Speaker 1>you tapped out.
<v Speaker 2>Huh dude. He says, the Great Java Guerrera from the
<v Speaker 2>Great gro Familia. What happened? My friend. I thought you'd
<v Speaker 2>be the first victor of my temple and prove the
<v Speaker 2>world that the Grow family is the greatest luchador family
<v Speaker 2>in history. And what do you do? You tapped out?
<v Speaker 2>What would your grandfather think? What would your uncle think? Well,
<v Speaker 2>he says, one thing's for sure. The one hundred thousand
<v Speaker 2>dollars will not begun to you city.
<v Speaker 1>I mean only fuck you are not getting that money.
<v Speaker 1>I'll tell you that much.
<v Speaker 2>And since you didn't finish the job tonight, I will
<v Speaker 2>have to bring in an opponent who will. And once
<v Speaker 2>he is here, there is nothing I can do to
<v Speaker 2>stop him. And he wipes his nose. I believe this
<v Speaker 2>was cocaine implications. And he says a thousand deaths might
<v Speaker 2>be coming for us, all which I don't know. I'm assuming.
<v Speaker 2>Do you know who this is talking about? Here? The rock?
<v Speaker 2>Well that was the first one. You're still on, like
<v Speaker 2>the the like for Lucha Uprising script here? Right? Okay,
<v Speaker 2>my bad, miss the it's uh it is uh mill
<v Speaker 2>More tents mill More tests who you know as Judas Messius.
<v Speaker 1>Oh wow, Abyss is half brother.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, yes, he's with Maxine. I forget where her name
<v Speaker 2>was here Maxine from w Yes, yes was her name?
<v Speaker 1>Oh The Kiss of Death?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, yes, Katrina Katrina was her name? Katrina? Right, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>what she's fucking awesome on this show too. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I've seen a lot of the Wertz stuff,
<v Speaker 1>Like he's massive, he looks you, the mask is super
<v Speaker 1>fucking dope, dude.
<v Speaker 2>Him and Phoenix have like my favorite casket match ever.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so I mean I'm definitely excited to see more
<v Speaker 1>from him, for sure.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So we have the main event of the evening, Johnny
<v Speaker 1>Mundo versus Prince Puma with Conan.
<v Speaker 2>So Conan is here for the entrance and that's it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, he's That's that's all I got.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if like they filmed that and then
<v Speaker 2>or what happened here, because like or he might have
<v Speaker 2>been going you know what, I actually may have read
<v Speaker 2>that he like had surgery, like makes sense at the time,
<v Speaker 2>So maybe he.
<v Speaker 1>Was going through a lot of shit at this time.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Sure, I feel like every other fucking month there
<v Speaker 2>was stuff about Conan's like hip surgery or this or that.
<v Speaker 1>You know, Well, Johnny Munda comes out, he does his
<v Speaker 1>WWE entrance here, like with.
<v Speaker 2>The uh slow Moe thing and yeah, kicked on the
<v Speaker 2>apron and stuff.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, he's still locked and still got the jacket
<v Speaker 1>and everything. The only thing separating him from WWE is
<v Speaker 1>Joey Mercury's now.
<v Speaker 2>Here the ring. Yeah, pretty much.
<v Speaker 1>Prince Puma comes out here and Vampiro immediately says, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>Conya is like a cancer.
<v Speaker 2>Man.
<v Speaker 1>I hate that guy.
<v Speaker 2>I gotta tell you, dude, that is such like a
<v Speaker 2>fucking this never ends. By the way. He hates Conan
<v Speaker 2>and like always hates Conan and he calls him a
<v Speaker 2>snake and this, that and the other. I mean, it's
<v Speaker 2>it's great.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and this is like prime era Ricochet by the way.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, you know, not to catch up with the
<v Speaker 1>stuff he's doing now, because the stuff he's doing now
<v Speaker 1>is really good too. But I just remember at the
<v Speaker 1>time watching Ricochet and being like, holy fuck, like I know,
<v Speaker 1>he's got it all. I was like, Wow, this guy
<v Speaker 1>can do everything, And I guess that's really kind of
<v Speaker 1>still the still the case now.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, like still can do it super still, he
<v Speaker 2>can keep up with fucking everybody, man.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I guess it was easy to like when he
<v Speaker 1>went to WWE, it was easy to forget, like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>because so much time passed, like just how good this
<v Speaker 1>guy is, I know, and like it's it's really cool
<v Speaker 1>to see him doing his thing nowadays.
<v Speaker 2>In aw no, dude, like I said, when he came
<v Speaker 2>back from fucking that dragon Gate tour, I mean it
<v Speaker 2>was this is like the best high flyer in the
<v Speaker 2>fucking world. It was on yeah right, yeah, he had
<v Speaker 2>a little you remember the mohawk of course, dude, that
<v Speaker 2>great when he tapped in, yes, jacked and he had
<v Speaker 2>that fucking colored mohawks. Sh it was awesome. Man.
<v Speaker 1>He look yeah like that look.
<v Speaker 2>And but I will say, Prince Uma, by the way,
<v Speaker 2>this is a super marketable look here.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah he's got a story like I mean, yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>mean this is awesome. I mean this is I mean
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people still reference this. I mean this
<v Speaker 1>is a very cho very people remember this very much,
<v Speaker 1>which is cool. Vampiro all right, so they start the
<v Speaker 1>match off here Mundo and Puma do and they do
<v Speaker 1>like a wristlock exchange, and Vampura says, you know, that
<v Speaker 1>reminds me of the Dynamite Kid. And I was like,
<v Speaker 1>holy shit, I mean that was loaded.
<v Speaker 2>That's crazy.
<v Speaker 1>They're doing like wristlock exchanges and ship and strikers like
<v Speaker 1>this is inspired by World of Sport. You know, you
<v Speaker 1>can talk about that here. Use the internet.
<v Speaker 2>Learn, do not look at where Johnny Mundes working.
<v Speaker 1>Lately, Johnny Munda's cage match for the past three years.
<v Speaker 2>Do not keep up with Johnny Mundo, but you should
<v Speaker 2>keep up with the World of sport. Also, by the way,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if you noticed, it's very very faint.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if they kept it in just because
<v Speaker 2>they had to or what. But when the shot comes
<v Speaker 2>in and the bell rings, the last bit of the
<v Speaker 2>crowd channing all night long can be heard, which was
<v Speaker 2>fucking Obviously the PBG fans there that knew was Rikoshet
<v Speaker 2>and he was doing shit with Swan.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, I was gonna bring it up because Striker says
<v Speaker 1>it on commentary. Striker mentions that Ricochet can go all
<v Speaker 1>night long, and I was like, oh man, it's the
<v Speaker 1>fucking Ricochet rich One Inner City machine Guns from PWG
<v Speaker 1>and they were doing I mean, they were doing that
<v Speaker 1>fucking deal on every indie show they were on. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>rich One still does it to this day. Rich One
<v Speaker 1>is still doing Yeah, that's nuts. Matt Striker says that
<v Speaker 1>he asked Vampiro. He says, what do you think Puma
<v Speaker 1>has like picked up from Conan? And Vampiro says, sadly,
<v Speaker 1>this kid's about to be corrupted. I gotta tell you
<v Speaker 1>Conan is evil.
<v Speaker 2>He legit says. If there's anyone that's evil, it's Conan's ship. Dude.
<v Speaker 1>I love how thick Vampiro lays it on for the
<v Speaker 1>heels on this show, Like, yeah, no one likes the
<v Speaker 1>Guerrero family. It's sept for Eddie is nuts. You know,
<v Speaker 1>Conan is evil and he's going to corrupt this kid immediately.
<v Speaker 1>He's a cancer. Yeah. I like how ernest he is,
<v Speaker 1>and like the way he comes off on the heels
<v Speaker 1>that only grows too.
<v Speaker 2>By the way.
<v Speaker 1>I love this So Ricochet does, I mean, like if
<v Speaker 1>Ricochet's like kind of just doing going through the motions
<v Speaker 1>of his ship that he would do like pretty much
<v Speaker 1>every show, Like double fucking Head saysers drop kick, go
<v Speaker 1>for the dive, backflip into superhero pos Like Vampiro, I'm
<v Speaker 1>guessing he hasn't seen much Ricochet, you know, up to
<v Speaker 1>this point, so like this is the first time you
<v Speaker 1>see all his ship, which is like, I mean, when
<v Speaker 1>you see it for the first time, especially in twenty fourteen,
<v Speaker 1>you're like, wow, this is like this is it? Like
<v Speaker 1>this guy is right. So Vampiro sees that and like
<v Speaker 1>he stands up. I mean he legitimately goes, man, I'm
<v Speaker 1>standing up.
<v Speaker 2>Come on, come on. I was like, dude, Wow, I.
<v Speaker 1>Haven't seen I've never seen someone's first reaction to seeing
<v Speaker 1>like this feels like a time capsule, like seeing twenty
<v Speaker 1>fourteen Ricochet for the first time and being able to
<v Speaker 1>experience like his shine and all this shit he does
<v Speaker 1>like it's super locked in and yeah. Seeing Vampiro stand
<v Speaker 1>up and he was like, let's fucking god.
<v Speaker 2>The little camera that's blown out. Yeah on his mic
<v Speaker 2>that's blown out. I'm standing on that, dude. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Richet Ricochet goes to dive. He does the backflip into
<v Speaker 1>the superhero post thing. If this was PWG. Mundo would
<v Speaker 1>have came in. He would have done the Superhero post spot.
<v Speaker 1>Then the ref would have done the Superhero post spot.
<v Speaker 2>And stick their thumbs up.
<v Speaker 1>Then whoever's doing control of this match, he would smack
<v Speaker 1>the other guy. The guy would powder. He would give
<v Speaker 1>the middle finger to the crowd. He'd hit a big
<v Speaker 1>dive over the robes we get into the match.
<v Speaker 2>That's pretty much exactly how this would go.
<v Speaker 1>Ricochet would do.
<v Speaker 2>The dance right the people's elbow, Yeah, yeah, with the
<v Speaker 2>moon saw.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, the People's moon saw.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, all stuff I wanted to see in twenty fourteen.
<v Speaker 1>Twenty fourteen on beg, I am begging for the ref
<v Speaker 1>to do the superhero posing fuck up, Like I am
<v Speaker 1>begging for it. Dude, push the ladder and do the
<v Speaker 1>toe fa on you and beg you to it. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>like seeing this brought back so many memories for me.
<v Speaker 2>It felt good.
<v Speaker 1>This was a very important part of my fandom as
<v Speaker 1>a wrestling fan. Like I like, I'm not the style
<v Speaker 1>that PWG was at the time, Like I I like
<v Speaker 1>different types of wrestling today is the best to put it.
<v Speaker 1>But that era was so important for me as like
<v Speaker 1>just a fan of wrestling to go through, you know, man,
<v Speaker 1>Like that shit brought back a lot of memories.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, well, you know we've talked about it right, where
<v Speaker 2>Like I was definitely in a part where like I
<v Speaker 2>didn't really want to watch anything old, but I also
<v Speaker 2>like didn't want to watch much that was going on TV.
<v Speaker 2>So like, if that shit didn't exist, I'm probably like
<v Speaker 2>if I didn't, if I don't find the indies, I'm out. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I was so ready for like that generation of guys
<v Speaker 1>to like be the people that everyone was talking about.
<v Speaker 1>Matt Striker calls the fans here the Lucca Mania acts.
<v Speaker 1>He says, it doesn't last. Check out the Luca MANI acts.
<v Speaker 1>In this dirty, dirty, shitty, fucking shitty, shitty, fucking horrible
<v Speaker 1>building we're in.
<v Speaker 2>They must they must believe in this. Oh right, believers.
<v Speaker 2>That's probably a better one. Huh.
<v Speaker 1>Bapira says, Yeah, we're like in a Freddy Krueger movie,
<v Speaker 1>like we're here in the boiler room or something.
<v Speaker 2>That would have been fucking sick. What the hell?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? I like, you know, what can I say? I'm
<v Speaker 1>a fan of Wes Cravens at everyone Elm Street So Vampiro,
<v Speaker 1>I like that shout out, thank you so much. I
<v Speaker 1>appreciate that. They fight over to the announced table. Here
<v Speaker 1>Mundo flips off the table and Vampiro literally peaks his
<v Speaker 1>mic by how excited he is. He says, this is
<v Speaker 1>like the coolest shit he's ever seen.
<v Speaker 2>Dude, if he could curse, he would be fucking going
<v Speaker 2>nuts right now, Like this is the craziest fucking the
<v Speaker 2>governments and have you you see this shit.
<v Speaker 1>They had to keep Vampiro away from PWG by all
<v Speaker 1>costs because he.
<v Speaker 2>Would like it would change his life. God, oh my god.
<v Speaker 1>Mundo's now in control of the match. Here, He's taken
<v Speaker 1>four arm shots to prince Puma's back. Puma fires back
<v Speaker 1>with a kick here. He tries to get the crowd
<v Speaker 1>into the match by pounding on the mat. But I mean,
<v Speaker 1>you can see like a lot of the fans already left.
<v Speaker 1>I guess the fucking building was so hot and just
<v Speaker 1>everything by that point.
<v Speaker 2>They thought a peeping for the most part.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they didn't know that he was trying to get
<v Speaker 1>them into it by pounding the bat either, So it
<v Speaker 1>kind of took him a minute to understand what was
<v Speaker 1>going on, but they eventually got it. I'm sure there
<v Speaker 1>was somebody there that was kind of like doing what
<v Speaker 1>so Calval would do. Yeah, yeah, right, Puma has a
<v Speaker 1>standing shooter for a two here. Mundo eventually catches fire
<v Speaker 1>and runs Pum into the buckle and punches him down
<v Speaker 1>them Mundo hits a very odd looking comeback. That's the
<v Speaker 1>only way I could put it here. It was just
<v Speaker 1>very odd. Yeah, double clothes line, it's a normal comeback.
<v Speaker 1>Don't get me wrong. Say you just kind of have
<v Speaker 1>to look at it. It's just very odd looking. It
<v Speaker 1>felt like it didn't feel like he was trying.
<v Speaker 2>To do the moves to him.
<v Speaker 1>It kind of took me out for a second. It
<v Speaker 1>just kind of felt like we were going through the
<v Speaker 1>motions of the comeback. Yeah, it was weird.
<v Speaker 2>It was kind of like a means to an end,
<v Speaker 2>like we just kind of I need to get my
<v Speaker 2>come up back here, and this is what I got.
<v Speaker 2>Like I was just onawn. Sorry, like this guy, I
<v Speaker 2>got double line leg Larry.
<v Speaker 1>But even if you're doing double line lariat, like that's cool.
<v Speaker 1>Like de Malinko would do the leg Larry and I
<v Speaker 1>would come back a lot. But like you catch fire,
<v Speaker 1>you punch him down the buckle, you fucking fire up.
<v Speaker 1>And it was almost like Randy Orton when he throws
<v Speaker 1>the lions for his comeback. Oh, like you know, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's just like now we're just waiting for the power slam,
<v Speaker 1>but he goes in the Yeah. Yeah, it was just odd,
<v Speaker 1>just because, like with the fire that he came up
<v Speaker 1>with out of the corner, it's expected like a more
<v Speaker 1>fiery comeback than that. Sure, I mean it's such a
<v Speaker 1>stupid nitpick here.
<v Speaker 2>No, but I see you're saying. I mean, like you know,
<v Speaker 2>and I will tell you he does, you know, the
<v Speaker 2>the stuff. He becomes more of a looch underground wrestler
<v Speaker 2>than a w B wrestler pretty soon.
<v Speaker 1>That's cool. Mundo hits a running knee strike for two.
<v Speaker 1>He goes for starship pain, but Puma rolls him up
<v Speaker 1>for a two.
<v Speaker 2>That's the end of the World broughta I didn't know
<v Speaker 2>that till the end of the match, dude. I actually,
<v Speaker 2>the end of the World is a fucking awesome name
<v Speaker 2>for a move. Yeah. I do like it too.
<v Speaker 1>Mundo goes for a spinning neck breaker. I'm thinking that's
<v Speaker 1>the Moonlight drive. I think I wrote down.
<v Speaker 2>Moon Light dry there you go. I was waiting, Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I wrote it down somewhere here.
<v Speaker 1>I heard him at commentary say it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Puma stops him from hitting that though, until Mundo hits
<v Speaker 1>a springboard kick for a two. It's basically Puma just
<v Speaker 1>trying to hold on and stop Munda from hitting his
<v Speaker 1>finishing stuff. Here, Mundo flips out of starship pain.
<v Speaker 2>He does.
<v Speaker 1>He has a lot of moves and a lot of
<v Speaker 1>things that could put Puma down here. You know, in
<v Speaker 1>the in the story of of the match, Mundo's kind
<v Speaker 1>of like a vet, you know, he's kind of like
<v Speaker 1>the top guy who comes in and everyone knows, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>Puma is like the up and coming guy. Right, So
<v Speaker 1>like Puma is just trying to like escape from the
<v Speaker 1>ship that he knows Mundo's gonna do.
<v Speaker 2>Right, He wouldn't, right, because yeah, exactly.
<v Speaker 1>Puma catches him with the springboard media Oora for a two,
<v Speaker 1>goes for a springboard for fifty but misses. Mundo is
<v Speaker 1>able to hit the Moonlight drive for a two point nine.
<v Speaker 2>That was a good fucking falsey. I actually even bit
<v Speaker 2>on that one because he that yeah, yeah, yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Mundo hits a standing Spanish fly here called the C four,
<v Speaker 1>A little C four. It's a lot of moves called that.
<v Speaker 2>Fucking there is a lot of moves called that. I'm trying,
<v Speaker 2>I'm trying to remember who first called it the four spike, Yes,
<v Speaker 2>C four, so I know it as the as this right,
<v Speaker 2>the Standing Spanish Fly C four is also Sean Spears
<v Speaker 2>value right, Spike. Uh, there's definitely another one.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'd have to think about it.
<v Speaker 2>Let us know if you unmore, there's gotta be more.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know who first called it the C four
<v Speaker 2>for this, because the first time I remember seeing the
<v Speaker 2>flipping Spanish fly was the standing one was fucking Paul
<v Speaker 2>Burns show. Oh wow. Really he'd walked the plank I
<v Speaker 2>think or walking the plank one of those he did
<v Speaker 2>hirate in the game. That's also so he got it
<v Speaker 2>in the game the standing C four.
<v Speaker 1>Which game was he in?
<v Speaker 2>Oh seven? Oh nice? Mm hmmm, good game to be in.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what I expected here for the main
<v Speaker 1>but I was. I was impressed with it nonetheless.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, no, man, I I dug it a lot. I mean,
<v Speaker 2>like you said, I can, I can fucking just glowingly
<v Speaker 2>talk about Ricochet at this time, and you know, Johnny Mundo,
<v Speaker 2>I even I remember at the time, I was like, ah, fuck,
<v Speaker 2>like I wish just didn't have WB guys in it,
<v Speaker 2>but I get it. But he fucking grows on me, man,
<v Speaker 2>Like like you said, like this run does pretty fucking
<v Speaker 2>does wonders for him. He ends up in TNA too,
<v Speaker 2>and what's the title?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Austin Ares walks out after.
<v Speaker 2>Holy shit because he gets into its mud. Fuck that.
<v Speaker 2>Fuck that. So Puma is frustrated after the match. I
<v Speaker 2>like this part too. He fucking Mundo gives them props
<v Speaker 2>and DAPs them up and they hug, and Striker on
<v Speaker 2>commentary says, Ah, he's you know, he's taking care of me.
<v Speaker 2>He's looking he's being a good guy. Here. Do you
<v Speaker 2>think that means if Mundo gets one hundred thousand he'll
<v Speaker 2>share it with Puma? Why the fuck would he do that? Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>I mean I don't know. Like, also, it's in cold
<v Speaker 1>hard bills. I mean that's a situation.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and walk out with him briefcase?
<v Speaker 1>Was he just holding money walking out into La in
<v Speaker 1>the street. So Dario comes out, Yeah, and uh Vampiro
<v Speaker 1>right away. I love the way he reacted. Bro, he
<v Speaker 1>looks so pissed right now.
<v Speaker 2>Dude, he is Matt what the hell? What the hell?
<v Speaker 2>He's fucking really bad?
<v Speaker 3>Casual?
<v Speaker 2>That was that was so funny.
<v Speaker 1>And Dario congratulates Mundo and he says he's earned the money.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, he shows him the briefcase. By the way, the
<v Speaker 2>money is in it, so they're not like trying to
<v Speaker 2>bake the money or anything. And Mundo goes to grab
<v Speaker 2>the briefcase but Dario closes it, and they're super dubbed
<v Speaker 2>vampiro commentary because he must have been flipping the fuck
<v Speaker 2>out and if I peaked like this ship, so they
<v Speaker 2>had to get this line in. Yeah, this is the
<v Speaker 2>first time I've seen a jar Boni promoter like this
<v Speaker 2>struck to skip out on a paid day.
<v Speaker 1>Well, what a great line. I thought that was funny
<v Speaker 1>as shit. Yeah, it sounded like he was le disgusted.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, dude, he probably popped off for real. Like on
<v Speaker 2>commentary they said, all right, dude, hey, you gotta like
<v Speaker 2>dial it a little. What the fuck? So Mundo tries
<v Speaker 2>to go for the briefcase and they struggle with the
<v Speaker 2>Dario is not giving it to him, and then oh
<v Speaker 2>my god, it's Ricky Reyes the rot Wilders. Are your
<v Speaker 2>babys are here. Holy shit, it's Ricky, and holy shit,
<v Speaker 2>it's a little Cholo. Little Cholo's here and they're jumping
<v Speaker 2>Punda Punda Puma and Mundo and uh, they're kicking their ass.
<v Speaker 2>They're stomping them out until the big Dog is here.
<v Speaker 2>We've talked about him on the show a few times.
<v Speaker 2>We actually never got to talk about him when he
<v Speaker 2>was this.
<v Speaker 1>Big Rick is in the house from that EV two promotion,
<v Speaker 1>the Philly based promotions, Ezekiel Jackson. He was their champion, the.
<v Speaker 2>Last ew champion. Big Rick is so Big Rick grabs
<v Speaker 2>Puma from my apron and he gives him the ten
<v Speaker 2>beatsa where Ravens from. Yeah, dude, and then Ricky Rea
<v Speaker 2>is a little chollo invent the shatter machine.
<v Speaker 1>Dude they do? Wow? That was nuts. They hit it
<v Speaker 1>clean too?
<v Speaker 2>Were they Was this already a move on? Like? Were
<v Speaker 2>they were these guys like a team yet the revival?
<v Speaker 2>Oh I assume so I in my brain that's like.
<v Speaker 1>Later they should have hit him with the cop killer
<v Speaker 1>fucking tiger.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, ship, that would have been so fucking awesome. Wow. Yeah, No,
<v Speaker 2>we get shatter machine though, and uh they throw Mundo
<v Speaker 2>into Big Rick, and Big Rick goozles Mundo and he
<v Speaker 2>hits him with a fucking Urinagi. I don't know why
<v Speaker 2>he goozled him though, he wasn't like a jokes. Lady
<v Speaker 2>goes into Uranagi and Vampiro says, damn dog, which is
<v Speaker 2>again just end screen.
<v Speaker 1>Commentary, exit match.
<v Speaker 2>We met damn dog window. He just got hit with
<v Speaker 2>the urinaugy. Uh shit, uh Ricky Rianz. By the way,
<v Speaker 2>here is Cortes Castro and little Cholo is mister Cisco Nice,
<v Speaker 2>which is which is awesome. Yeah, they're uh, they're the
<v Speaker 2>hired guns here for uh, for Dario Quito. And he says,
<v Speaker 2>you think just you know, just Lucca doors compete here.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think so. I told you I've been scouting
<v Speaker 2>the best fighters in the world, and these guys they
<v Speaker 2>work for me. And he gives the one hundred thousand
<v Speaker 2>dollars the Big Rick as the hired gun and here
<v Speaker 2>you go, buddy, dude, that would have been fucking awesome.
<v Speaker 2>Holy shit, But he gives one hundred thousand dollars the
<v Speaker 2>Big Rick and the crowd booze, and Dario says, welcome
<v Speaker 2>to Luca Underground. And that's how we go off the
<v Speaker 2>air with the first show here with already set in
<v Speaker 2>the lines of Dario's gotta stable. He's the dickhead, fucking
<v Speaker 2>die in charge. We got the top babies here setting
<v Speaker 2>up a lot here.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean they had a vision man, and they
<v Speaker 1>execute it, you know, all the way out through the show.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, we have a bunch of angles that have
<v Speaker 1>already sort of spouted up here, like what are we
<v Speaker 1>gonna do with Chavo Guerrero. We got them signed for
<v Speaker 1>six shots. You know, we got Son of Havoc. You
<v Speaker 1>know he's got the voice changer.
<v Speaker 2>Dude, he's looking for some count out victories.
<v Speaker 1>Right Yeah, Blue Day Moon's already like a big baby
<v Speaker 1>face here that the crowds is gonna get behind for sure. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they got the mill Muertes thing coming together. Prince Puma
<v Speaker 1>looked great, Mundo. I'm sure. I'm sure the next episode
<v Speaker 1>is like them teaming together versus Ricky Reyes and little Cholo.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah right, you might be right. Actually, if not, you
<v Speaker 2>know a few because maybe the first taping they probably
<v Speaker 2>did like two shots of like something totally different for
<v Speaker 2>the live prod or whatever. But oh sure, yeah, I'm
<v Speaker 2>not positive, but I'm sure we'll talk about. I h
<v Speaker 2>it's got my juices.
<v Speaker 1>Talk about does a question for you you've seen sure
<v Speaker 1>season two and three, does does like the production change
<v Speaker 1>or does it kind of look like this throughout the entirety.
<v Speaker 2>Of this much looks like this, Like if anything changes,
<v Speaker 2>it's you know, they get kind of better with the shots,
<v Speaker 2>Like I don't know if there's always six fucking roamors.
<v Speaker 2>I think the cutting is pretty much what like what
<v Speaker 2>you're gonna get here, like kind of like in your face,
<v Speaker 2>Like all over the place, the lighting is all the same.
<v Speaker 2>Here they change maybe the canvas and little things like that.
<v Speaker 2>There's more people start coming, so like it fills out
<v Speaker 2>a lot more. But in terms of look, this is
<v Speaker 2>pretty much what they stay with for pretty much most
<v Speaker 2>of the run. Like I said, they eventually leave here
<v Speaker 2>to go to a different temple, and that one's a
<v Speaker 2>little brighter, which I also didn't love. Yeah, no's it
<v Speaker 2>stays pretty close to this.
<v Speaker 1>Sure, Okay, did you like this? I enjoyed it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I thought it was a quick watch. You know, I've
<v Speaker 1>changed as a wrestling fan since this first aired. Sure,
<v Speaker 1>And you know I was able to get through everything
<v Speaker 1>I thought. You know, I was excited to see what
<v Speaker 1>they would do and the follow up. And I mean,
<v Speaker 1>I know that a lot of people think very highly
<v Speaker 1>of this show and it's run, and I'd like to
<v Speaker 1>also think highly of it. So I'd love to see
<v Speaker 1>more of it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, we'll have to keep tapping a dude. I mean,
<v Speaker 2>like Darioquato like changes what a general manager is in
<v Speaker 2>my brain because like you know, for years and years,
<v Speaker 2>like it's a heel fucking guy and the commissioner or
<v Speaker 2>general manager like of course they're gonna be a dickhead
<v Speaker 2>and this, that and the other. There's tropes that like
<v Speaker 2>kind of follow that forever, and Darioquato becomes not only
<v Speaker 2>does this guy fucking fill this character out perfectly, but
<v Speaker 2>what they do with them and how he is the
<v Speaker 2>promoter and and what's important. I think you'll like it
<v Speaker 2>a lot kind of the how they play their promoter
<v Speaker 2>role here where like you know, there's just a little
<v Speaker 2>jumping out of here, but there's stuff where like you know,
<v Speaker 2>there's you can cash in stuff, but you have to
<v Speaker 2>give Dario like a week heads up because he needs
<v Speaker 2>a week to promote the match, because that is cool. Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>there's stuff like that like that makes the show super
<v Speaker 2>fucking cool. And I'm excited, like you know, once we
<v Speaker 2>tap back more into this or however we want to
<v Speaker 2>do it for you to experience all that, and I'm
<v Speaker 2>excited to kind of relive this stuff too, because I sure, really,
<v Speaker 2>I really liked a lot of this stuff. Well, that
<v Speaker 2>is it for Lucha Underground's debut episode, and that is
