[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the 40-K-Lore cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Forty-Haylor Cats with me, John Barsadian, Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: With the upcoming release of Dawn of War 4, please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suck.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're jumping into the protagonists, the blood ravens, which, like we did, Titus, meant I had to pull from all over the damn place to write this thing and it got a little bit wild.
[SPEAKER_00]: So,
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see how this goes, guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cause we are too wild and crazy, guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, all right, 40K Lordcast, weekly show in the Lord of 440K universe, releasing every Monday it's 7 p.m. Eastern time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you again for all the comments and all the followers.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's really been incredible for us to see how far this show has grown and continues to grow.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, big thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a link in the notes to our YouTube channel where you'll find our bi-monthly Q&As and some more stuff coming up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, if you like the sounds of our voice, you can get more of it by listening to the history of Forty-K, where Brad and I in a guest will review the tabletop versions of the Warhammer Forty-K universe, or you can come over to my other show Retro Recall, where you can hear me waxing poetically about video games from the 80s and 90s, that for some reason I still play and enjoy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: You just said waxing poetically and then toast it into what you talk about.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wax poetically.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not a soothing poem.
[SPEAKER_00]: You mean wax?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a wax.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a smooth wax and it's not a happy poem.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little aggressive, it's a little aggressive, but if you also do like us, you want to support us, there's also a link to our merchandise and our Patreon, our Patreon, we talk about all time and I love talking about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's massive.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you people who contribute.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Patreon funds are what got us better audio equipment.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually going to help Brad and I get some stuff going on YouTube.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've been trying to dip our toe into YouTube.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a little bit more challenging than we thought, so we're trying to do it directly and not just have it be half acidly as how I like to describe it, but YouTube $4.99 a month, you get this show and history of 40k ad free or 7154 Korean won really a bit pronounced that correct.
[SPEAKER_00]: But before I ever even go there, if you haven't had Korean fried chicken, right now Google that find a place near where you live and go taste it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is magical.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry American South.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just better.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just deal with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Busan, one of the best spots for street food actually in the world and I personally love street food.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: You wander around and you get a collection of multiple different things and get to eat it and Busan's one of the top places for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's also why I like Portland.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just throwing that one out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: in the summer, they've got kind of high undi beach.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's actually how you pronounce it, which is a massive beach that sits right outside of the main downtown.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's giant, isn't it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't it undi?
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's kind of like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
[SPEAKER_00]: I was really hoping it's not spelled the same way, which I realized that they use a character language, so it's probably all phonetic, but you know, white guy trying to get this correct.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
[SPEAKER_01]: Trying to figure out if I would die if I would just wander around eating street food.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be honest, your GI tract isn't your best front and I'm pretty sure I'm doing around eating street food just feels like I feel like all of the dice, I feel like your body is not a big fan of random to start with and your GI tract would not be a big fan and let's also be honest, this is random Asian food.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you're probably going to have
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they would probably, there would be legends told of the man who destroyed the bathroom.
[SPEAKER_01]: The funny thing is, is that I have an all travelers, I want to throw this out to you, when you go to a new place, I don't care whether you think you're going to like it or not, you have to try all of the local cuisines.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've always been a huge, that is a rule for me, always.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of them?
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but last little bit on Bousan, it is still in Korea, so you've got incredible nightlife.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what kind of makes those trips fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good food, going to summer, nice beach, and good nightlife.
[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Last link of the thing, discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: Discord is growing.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually doing some restructuring right now on it too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we did a little bit last time.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing another one coming up.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to flip up some of the Asked John and Brad channel to make it a bit more engaging.
[SPEAKER_00]: just for those of you who are in our discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing that because we keep missing a lot of the questions and it's annoying me.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to make some changes to the discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just heads up on that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you haven't joined a discord, please do.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Great way to talk to Brad and I ask us questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: But more importantly, interact with each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a great community there for advice for kind of just us just general chat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jump in discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: Boom.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: So for anyone that doesn't know about this, the blood ravens were introduced in 2004.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fourth edition, Warhammer launched and GW decided that, yeah, they missed out on Starcraft, totally their fault.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were given the opportunity and they passed.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this time, with a release of fourth edition, they tied a video game release to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They worked with relic games who did make some very good games back in the day.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the game was called Dawn of War.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I have played so much at this game.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is a real time strategy game based in the Warhammer 40K universe.
[SPEAKER_00]: As of right now, in steam, I've got close to over 900 hours into this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I did use a titanium mod on top of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: but I've played so much of this game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, not the original one, it's more soul storm, it's my favorite.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk more about that later.
[SPEAKER_00]: But with Dawn of War, and it's release, relic games needed a space-married faction for the game, and they decided to do something.
[SPEAKER_00]: They decided to not use a codex chapter, and instead they made up a new successor chapter.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they actually went a weird direction and decided to go all new total backstory pulled out of the air.
[SPEAKER_00]: and GW, when you do, when you work with GW on intellectual property, they back you.
[SPEAKER_00]: So GW also did writing for them to add even more to this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was like, relic made this up and then GW was like, oh yeah, that's technically can't do it too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it was pretty cool though, because they led up to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Before the game even came out, they had a bunch of way tour articles that were leading you into the game as the release was coming out to give you a lower four of the chapter.
[SPEAKER_00]: and now because the game's been successful we've had more white dwarf articles we've had a novel series we've had short stories and more and I call this the boba that sense in area where if the fan base likes something you just keep doing it and sometimes you get the Mandalorian sometimes you get Dawn of War 3 just saying I
[SPEAKER_00]: So, time should get Boba Fett.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, true.
[SPEAKER_00]: And one last thing before I went to get into this, if any of our listeners were part of the titanium mod for Dawn of War, you are a gentleman or gentle woman and a scholar, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
[SPEAKER_00]: That mod has been amazing for me.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I've, I've, I've, I've.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was honestly don't have war for as a lot to kind of make up for because I will ditch it in a second and you've got to just keep playing I think it's that good
[SPEAKER_00]: Blood Ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, much like the Car Caradans, the Minotars, Red Hunters, and a few others, the Blood Ravens are of an unknown origin, and just like all of them, it's because they're original origin that's been white for Imperial Records.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is known is that they're earliest recorded history is M37, but not that's my data found, that's just the first time that they appear, that's basically a black out of them up until then.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the all powerful heads of the Imperium scrubbing them?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a mystery.
[SPEAKER_00]: I need to figure out, but Well, because we're not supposed to.
[SPEAKER_00]: So all we know is that we don't know where they come from.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't even know their primarck.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know anything We can assume a few things
[SPEAKER_00]: Probably not space wolves, probably not blood angels, or salamanders, or raven guard, because all four of them have unique features.
[SPEAKER_00]: We can't beat space wolves, because when they tried to do second founding of space wolves, it just didn't work.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, say with blood angel, let's talk about the fact that they're super highly psychic.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it chops off a couple chapters and in that too.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's true, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's very limited down in our second cast,
[SPEAKER_00]: where Brad and I think they come from originally.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in this one, I just want to call it, we don't really know where they're coming from.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to admit, it's not space wolves.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not blood angels because those gene flaws would have popped through.
[SPEAKER_00]: Salamanders and Ravenguard, you can tell usually.
[SPEAKER_00]: So who knows?
[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll get into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, as probably just saying, one thing that makes them unique is they're very, very psychic.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have more librarians like per capita, but let's go into the pre-show with this.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is part of the, I'd like, hey, Judd, they're known to be these fantastic psychers pre-cogs.
[SPEAKER_01]: They make all these, they're
[SPEAKER_01]: food, all their librarian conclace, make all these moves.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, side note, hey, man, you guys also lost an entire library's conclave into the war, apparently.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just gone.
[SPEAKER_01]: They probably got corrupted by chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also just didn't bother.
[SPEAKER_01]: They went, hey, man, we lost this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't ask any questions.
[SPEAKER_01]: Move along.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they have these powerful pre-cog abilities and they're
[SPEAKER_01]: and it did jads argument he goes yeah man show me in the games where that's ever even mentioned for it's that it is the play raven so let's just call it out we're gonna cover these guys a little bit differently than normal
[SPEAKER_00]: their video game chapter.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just going to cover them ice as a video game chapter.
[SPEAKER_00]: They had these like little novel bit where it's all there are some of the best pre-cogs in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to cover a little bit of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I've played enough Dawn of War 1, 2, and 3.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I've played enough of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: It never comes up.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm kind of like you can write this whole story and you were given all these opportunities to show me they could do it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it never came up.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like one of the top things and every one of the pages, too, is, you know, you have pre-cogs and how they're guided along by it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, I'm calling it out again.
[SPEAKER_01]: every time it in the stories they make such they make a point of the faded the fifth, but they also kind of just blow it off.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, man, no one's going to ask about how that happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, don't worry about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, I think the inquisition wants to worry about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've did all of your psychers all turned to chaos at the same time.
[SPEAKER_00]: It just we're going to cover it.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to cover it more in the next episode, but it's one of these weird things where they'll have these bit of a history of
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: And unlike the dark angels, they just they treat it like your crazy uncle that drinks too much.
[SPEAKER_00]: And how well that that they take out back and shoot.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, you know, just Grandpa, we Grandpa Grandma move.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we just didn't tell him where we moved.
[SPEAKER_01]: This problem solved.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how they solve some of these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just like, yeah, they're just not with us anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: The important thing about the blood ravens with their psychic abilities is that it actually seems to be tied to their gene seat, because what they do notice is that they'll take and need a aspirant.
[SPEAKER_00]: When the aspirant gets the gene seat in plantation, they will actually become psychic afterwards.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if they are already a psycher before getting the gene in plantation, they become a more powerful psycher.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there seems to be something tied to their gene seat around it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this will, to Brad's point, be both a hindrance,
[SPEAKER_00]: and a benefit because sometimes they fall to chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, another piece on that, though, is they've got a long history of fighting chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: This, then, it's likely a combination of them being so, like, psychically gifted that they're always engaging with chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Chaos, space marines, but more importantly, demons.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not great night level fighting demons, but they fight demons a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a lot of veteran experience fighting with the force of chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're kind of always getting into trouble basically.
[SPEAKER_01]: They look like they're Harry Potter trio.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's always that, why isn't always you three?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because they also, one of their big things is they are actually are trying to discover the history of the chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, they hook up with the ad macolot to go on exploratory missions.
[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the things about that is, you know, who also knows about them,
[SPEAKER_00]: the elder, which is this is one of the weirder pieces of their lore.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we're going to dive more to this in the next episode, but the elder have records of the origins of the blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have artifacts that actually are under the protection of the harlequins, which is a very big deal because the harlequins are trying to unlock the mystery of how to defeat chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: they don't just collect stuff because they're bored.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so if they're holding relics of the blood ravens, that means there's something about the blood ravens and a tie to chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think that it goes into their psychic nature out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like this a lot and I do like the fact that they've kept it kind of a mystery even in the writings and stuff, but they go and they're looking for their past, but it's one of those, should you be looking for your past almost?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're not going to like what you find.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, the blood ravens are teed up to be one of those things where you discover that your dad is Darth Vader.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's pretty clear.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have a sanity they have kind of given you to set the stage for them to really be.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, our history is bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a reason that it got locked off.
[SPEAKER_00]: But let's go into their history.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to stop before the video games.
[SPEAKER_00]: Blood ravens have no idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what I've been waiting for this entire cast, continue to jump.
[SPEAKER_00]: As a Raya Vidya, I can put out that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nice try.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you thought I couldn't pull off an Aza Raya video, that's, this is easy, this isn't retinue, this is an easy one, retune, the blood ravens have no recorded history prior to M37, so they've done what most civilizations do, they've, they have mythology, and in the case of blood ravens, the mythology is around their founding members.
[SPEAKER_00]: At an unknown time, the blood ravens were engaging in a part of the galaxy known as the Gothic sector, which is above the segmentum solar.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope, it's above.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's above.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's where it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's above.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's equally.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually as north-south east-west underneath.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's whatever term we're facing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's over that way.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of the best way to describe it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember the addition now, but one of the additions always can't prefering to North East Southwest, more than any other.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it always makes me happy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gothic sectors cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gothic sector is where Abadon's 12th black crusade was.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's where the setting for battle fleet Gothic is.
[SPEAKER_00]: The game Blackstone fortresses is a bunch of stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: So cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, but what's funny about that is that's something a lot of stuff do so much GW writing that's actually it's one of the smallest sectors in writing actually just But it has these big hits.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's nothing given to some of the other sub sectors luxury Exactly, so the blood ravens are out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're fighting and they get overrun by forces of chaos there And it's because they were out there fighting chaos coats
[SPEAKER_00]: And the chaos cults were actually disparate.
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like an all-corn thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was zeme, there was this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so there's out there, kind of whack em all-ing them down.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's some warp storms going on.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is the viewpoint of the blood Ravens, as well as some warp storms in, chaos cults always pop up in this warp storms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just go around and hear just beat up the chaos cults and go home.
[SPEAKER_00]: Until I don't know where the chaos cults just boom.
[SPEAKER_00]: Did you not happen?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Chaos Cult just align and attack and just completely devastate the blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: Massive losses, their chapter master and their master of sanctity, which, by the way, is a terrible name for the head chaplain.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Master of sanctity is a little over the top.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I'm going with.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just a little over the top of the naming mechanism.
[SPEAKER_01]: Step off my chaplain.
[SPEAKER_00]: What chapter master makes sense, but this is the master of sanctity.
[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
[SPEAKER_00]: Easy.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, with both of them dead, the chapter officers turn to the only remaining leader, who's their chief librarian, Azeriah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Azeriah is now technically the highest ranking member of the Blood Ravens, but he was also a really good leader, and they asked him to take up the mantle of chapter master while maintaining his title of chief librarian.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he does this and says, OK, I'm going to lead you.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then does this really weird 80s mystic thing?
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause GW seems to love.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's because he's not just a librarian and castor.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's also a big librarian and knowledge.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the one thing he likes knowledge of is the forces of chaos, how they operate and their strengths and their weaknesses.
[SPEAKER_00]: So upon taking command of the blood ravens,
[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't do anything basically if there.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, yeah, you know, I'm going to kind of contradict that if you're in a period guard a lot of things happen Oh, he says suck.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's you're in a period of guardsman.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's whole plan was to literally launch guardsman and I'm using literally
[SPEAKER_00]: full of correctly the stylus yeah he's just dumping guardsmen and watching their tactics while they're getting slaughtered by not supporting them at all yeah he's standing back firing imperial guard regiments into these chaos cults and seeing how the chaos cults respond and then just taking notes while the imperial guard just gets slaughtered by these chaos groups who are very organized by the way and he does this for a while and then
[SPEAKER_00]: goes into it another room and starts scrying the future because he's a psych or anything which he does do by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: And finally he goes, all right, I'm ready at which point a lot of guardsmen are like, you're like, good time, man.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're like nothing happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, a lot of things happening.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been.
[SPEAKER_00]: but what he does next is actually super cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he begins to strike at the enemy and at first pisses the guardsman off again because he begins striking in the most random parts of this whole sector and the guards like great so you're striking at nobody.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he does this and all of a sudden every time he makes a strike the chaos cultist kind of overall situation starts to move and it moves again and as he keeps putting these strikes it becomes a crescendo and the final strike
[SPEAKER_00]: this chaos incursion and he's able to get in there and blows the whole thing up and it's awful because it's an alpha legion.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's an alpha legion.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to expose an alpha legion plot by doing all these things.
[SPEAKER_00]: Inquisition shows up afterwards.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, everyone's yay, I was a riot as the best.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I was a riot because of this becomes this like, masterful hero for them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause he took what was going to be pretty catastrophic loss.
[SPEAKER_00]: He saved the blood ravens by sacrificing all of the guardsmen and funny story.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have some issues with guardsmen later.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he does.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a history with them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have fighting them, and he does, he saves the blood ravens, and he now sets the blood ravens onto this path going forward.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the path, which again, I guess there are T.S.
[SPEAKER_00]: games, so you should be using a lot more strategy, maybe in this one's fair.
[SPEAKER_00]: The idea is that you really plan out your attacks, you plan everything, deeply plan, learn your enemies.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay if you fail to mission a couple times and just keep learning and tell you memorize where all of the resources are.
[SPEAKER_00]: but this becomes his new thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a librarian.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's obsessed with knowledge and now he passed that on to his chapter.
[SPEAKER_00]: One other thing he does though, sorry, good.
[SPEAKER_01]: In my mind, I really want someone to model a bunch of blood ravens as just Indiana Jones, because they're all trying to find new knowledge and artists actually more, it's more Nathaniel Drake, though, and I'll get into that in the essay.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get, I'll give you that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they're more, they're a little more action oriented than they anything else on that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but it's just funny because they are going on effectively constant side quests.
[SPEAKER_01]: The blood ravens are the king of side quests.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't say the game they are too, but whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Demand Dark Angels, that's the base.
[SPEAKER_00]: Demand Dark Angels.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but so as a riot, his main thing though is he wants to unlock the history of his chapter, he knows, air quotes here, that they are loyal to the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are currently.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: hit their guys because if they hadn't and he but he does believe they've always been more over the Emperor because they hadn't been lower than the Emperor they would have been destroyed.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's something about them.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like you're not a traitor.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're not a traitor.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it doesn't mean it's fairly accurate.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor is not exactly you know suffering of fools.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not something he's a big fan of.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he won't know where they came from and his whole chapter begins to take this upon themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: The funny story about this by the way is, Ozeraya just dies at some point.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know when, I'll be able to go reform, it's, I'm assuming old age, but he just eventually dies.
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, the blood ravens take this whole thing on note to Brad's point of, we need to now go unlock all the mysteries.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the fun thing about them is they start partnering up with interesting groups, like tech priests.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are big fans of going out there and searching for relics.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas the tech priests are looking for relics of the Amna Syah, the blood ravens are much more like Imperium focus.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, let's look for relics of who the hell we were.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they don't really have
[SPEAKER_00]: a primarck to look up to.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're looking for any sort of, hey, who are we?
[SPEAKER_00]: Where do we come from?
[SPEAKER_00]: What is our gene seed?
[SPEAKER_00]: No idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do look for kind of random knowledge though.
[SPEAKER_01]: They look up with anybody.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've done tech praise.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're known to hook up with admack though.
[SPEAKER_01]: They look for kind of anything and record it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They record a lot of stuff that could be considered pretty heretic.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the really key thing about them to me that I want to get to at this
[SPEAKER_00]: as much as the blood rate is looking for their own information, they're also looking for information on their enemies.
[SPEAKER_00]: The blood rate is really don't care if what they're looking up is air quotes here, her radicals.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're just to me like the tech priest.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: The tech priest will go to somewhere and say, oh, what is this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this is the relic of the Horus Heresy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take it apart and see what's in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: There might be a redeeming in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take it apart and see what's in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: The blood ravens do the same thing, the blood ravens are looking for any history of themselves, but they're also looking for any information they can on their enemies.
[SPEAKER_00]: This means they're constantly interacting with artifacts of chaos, artifacts of Zenos, or just artifacts of the inquisition, or the Ecclesiarchy would say, no touchy.
[SPEAKER_00]: and they're banking that their higher psychic powers will keep them shielded away from that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Does it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Not every time.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm just messing around.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the funny story is that we'll cover this more than next episode is when it doesn't, and they do fall to chaos, the blood ravens do this wild thing of, they just kill who are fell to chaos and then go back to their day as opposed to the dark angels who then spend, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then hunt down anyone who saw them, where the blood difference are like, oh, yeah, that guy fell to chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Things, those kids stabbed him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's also, he falls to chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: I killed him.
[SPEAKER_01]: If it was convenient, if the dude just takes off, you're like, yeah, that's far away.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, yeah, but he's gone now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, why would I bother?
[SPEAKER_00]: And the English news shows up and they're like, hey, did someone in your chapter fall to chaos?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, his name's Ted.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's over.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's that way somewhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was going this way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what of it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Meanwhile, the dark angels are like, no one can ever know anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: The dark angels are probably killed more in Quizzards and chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: for the acquisition to have the level of blood Ravens not give it a shit no F's were given under they're trying to interrogate them like yeah man he turned a case and he took off you like and you were guys we're gonna we did nothing we continue to what we're doing you're like yeah
[SPEAKER_01]: But you guys aren't, yeah, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: If he went that way, if you want to go catch him, you should leave now.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm out of here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Things happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: But let's get into the actual like true blood ravens lore, which is the games.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because you got, we had white dwarfs.
[SPEAKER_00]: Those are fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you've interacted with the blood ravens, it's because you play games, or maybe the games are too old, you know, played them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to cover Dawn of War 1.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_00]: This game releases, this is massive for me, so this is a big memory for John.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just graduated college too, because this is how old I am.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, so this game comes out.
[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite comes out in 2008, which is Soulstorm, but Dark Crusades is pretty good.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't played them, you should, they're great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you want to play the 10 factions in which case, come on, what are you doing?
[SPEAKER_00]: So don't award the original blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were just a playable space marine faction.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world is Tartarus.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world Tartarus is under attack by an organization, and I do remember the opening cinematic being blown away by in 2004.
[SPEAKER_00]: Feel free to look that up guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's 23 years old now, and yeah, computer graphics are better.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they are also I do love the beginning of that because I never I was not a huge Tread not fan in the game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it makes it look really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so much better.
[SPEAKER_01]: Tread them.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're so cool and not over
[SPEAKER_00]: Dreadnots are cool in every video game.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're all the dreadnots inside of space marine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every time, even actually all the dawn of wars, every time dreadnots are in a video game, they're good.
[SPEAKER_00]: On the tabletop, Womp, Womp.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they've been kept, but they're just they're so interactive on the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you need to like, fast what they should be in the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're always like, you're like, they're in the story, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, on the world of TARDIS there's an organization which is a much we learn later as a cover for an alpha legion sorcerer.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, there's GW of the recycler stories, because this is it always is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like, yeah, is the plot of Don of War also the plot of space marine one and two and potentially the plot of Don of War two.
[SPEAKER_00]: It might be, whatever, I don't, not my fault.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Blood Raven Scouts, while they're fighting the Orcs, see a chaos transport, so they go back and they say, hey, we think chaos is here, and we should go do something about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But around this exact same moment, the Inquisition arrives.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Captain Angelos is there, and I think it's Hune, whatever his name is, from the Inquisition shows up.
[SPEAKER_00]: He says, and Hune's there, say, hey, we have to evacuate the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a warp storm that's coming, it's going to engulf the entire planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: and we have to get everyone off of here because that's going to be bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so Captain and Joe's tells inquisitor, hey, I think chaos is here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And like any bad case movie, he just saw it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just saw it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, hey, do you want proof?
[SPEAKER_01]: By power, ever takes a recording of what I just saw.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they skipped over the, let's see, let's see, the power on we're taking a recording thing doesn't really work very much, because consistently, that's never brought up in these stories.
[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite part about this is the inquisitor looks at him and goes, nope, no, you didn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're a crazy person because
[SPEAKER_00]: would a member of the Inquisition Ordo Malias, when you say, hey, the chaos is here, go, not, I don't think they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Never even heard of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but his whole reason is because, sorry, those sides are here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angelo's, I guess, has a history with the Inquisition and chaos, but not really.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's because an unknown number of years earlier, he'd exterminatist his home planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this comes out of a novel, and it's, I just think the story's funny, Backwater Planet names Cyrene.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the blood ravens had, they would hold in their blood trials there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a gladiatorial games where aspirants would fight to join the blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Joe's was one.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he's now, he's a captain within the blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he returns a Cyrene to lead one of the blood trials.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which, like partway through, he just gets up and leaves and goes back to his ship.
[SPEAKER_00]: sends a message back to somewhere, Tara, and then inquisition and imperial navy ship shop and exterminate us the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: which is a lot, and so there's a question what happened, and it's like, what was it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Did he uncover a chaos there?
[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about before, where sometimes we've had alpha leaves have done this, where they'll infiltrate a populace on a recruiting world, that can actually lead to the fall of a chapter, because members of like, it's a chaos infused neophytes become space marines, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, this story is way funnier.
[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, this backwater hell that he came from, the people just didn't want to be there anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: This world's entire purpose was just to provide people for a war effort and everyone lived in like squalor and pain, and then just died in service to the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, in the period of time, he left.
[SPEAKER_00]: They began embracing psychers a little bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not sanctioned ones, not the evil warp like I'm going to be a warlord, but the benevolent ones are like, oh yeah, I can actually heal you and make things better and see the future.
[SPEAKER_00]: So like I know when it's going to rain so we can grow crops.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've been trading with Zenos for food and technology, like technology to make food, not food from dead people.
[SPEAKER_00]: But my favorite ones, this is written down.
[SPEAKER_00]: favorite one though is they've been embracing democracy.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's written down.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you're not giving the whole thing worst of all.
[SPEAKER_00]: The worst of all, they've been embracing the ideas of democracy, making decisions for themselves to benefit themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this level of betrayal of the emperor and his teachings could only be handled one way, the murder and
[SPEAKER_00]: The story is just to me entertaining because Angelos is on the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: He says it for exterminatists, but he has to go find his father first because his father is the one who made him who he was.
[SPEAKER_00]: His father was a soldier in the Piroguard, raised him on the beauty that is the emperor, all these things, and he didn't guess what happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's because it's not that clever.
[SPEAKER_01]: one of the leaders over the rebellion and he's stepping up against it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and when it actually when Captain Joe's meets him, his father looks at him and says, no, you're actually the reason why I want to overthrow all this crap.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're a butcher for the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's right, because Angela's just ordered the exterminate us of the entire planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Danielos, he's a complicated figure, but anyway, but back to Tardis.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Angelos scout saw a chaos ship.
[SPEAKER_00]: The equation said, no, you didn't, which is just weird.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Angelos and the rest of his blood ravens go, all right, well, we're going to go investigate that anyway.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, as they go to investigate the chaos ship, they get ambushed by BL-10 Eldar.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Eldar are there because they've sensed a bunch of chaos markers all over the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, these are blood ravens.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you just told me that there's relics here?
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what we like, we like relics.
[SPEAKER_00]: Shine me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, woo.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're gonna fight the Eldar because we're gonna know Zeno's, but we all need to go find some of these relics.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they send their main light braharian to go over there to start,
[SPEAKER_00]: dissecting the relics for whatever it is who instantly falls the corruption, by the way, like with and like that's two seconds.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he wasn't even locked.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was he walks up to the unaffect goes, hey, what's that?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm cast now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Damn.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, oh, is there a story about that?
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope, just instantly turned to cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next part of it is equally funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: While this is happening, they then see the bulletin and see the chaos, but they then see the L-d-r and the L-d-r see the chaos and see the blood ravens and they they all are on the blood of his both say we'll get to the chaos in a minute and they fight each other happily.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas in the chaos, out Legion run away.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I love this part of it though because the Alpha Legion does that whole look around while they're fighting just to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're seriously not attacked.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm gonna slowly walk away.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm gonna stay here.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only two in the sting where there's kind of a bug's bite just walks out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, walks out like while there's the big cloud where you see the arms and legs in the middle of the cloud fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's how they left it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So after they keep fighting for a little bit, now I'll have that moment of, hey, maybe we shouldn't be doing this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angelo's and the Elder Farseer talk.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna open with that, but why bother?
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Farseer explains the Angelo's that there's a special relic on this planet that could actually undo the entire planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: And also warns him that the inquisitor, always name whose name is Tooth, cannot be trusted.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Elder,
[SPEAKER_00]: Also then realize that maybe this whole fight with the Space Rangers is a bad idea because now we've taken so many losses we actually can't do anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they'll, while also the same time just giving over the location of the Alpha Legion, which is weird because apparently the Eldard knew where the Alpha Legion were and just worked there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the whole reason that they were there is to fight the Alpha Legion in the first place, but instead picked a fight with the Blood Ravens, which was really cool for the game, but
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so the blood ravens go, all right, and they go to attack.
[SPEAKER_00]: this new Alpha Legion location, and are immediately counterattack by Trader Guardsman.
[SPEAKER_00]: And although it feels weird to call him Trader Guardsman because more Trader planetary defense force but probably splitting hairs there because it was all the people who were already on the planet and that's one thing that we do a lot in games where we say they're Guardsman but they're Guardsman who are stationed on that planet and they're from that planet which makes them planetary defense force.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel that you just Googled splitting hairs and then completely went with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, but once again, you know, what the blood Ravens are fighting.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ha, ha, ha, take this Trader Guardsman and the Alpha Asian again go, we're going to bail on the Alpha Asian they have names, injury and bail other actual names, and they get it bail and they escape again.
[SPEAKER_00]: So,
[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're gonna get another video game kind of trope.
[SPEAKER_00]: And which hindsight I feel bad saying because I did realize this is a 2005 game.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the level of super reveals in video games we haven't gotten to yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is before Mass Effect.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is before Zero Dawn, Bioshock, Dead Space.
[SPEAKER_00]: None of these games have these kind of cool reveals and them have actually come out yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think Final Fantasy VII, like the only thing we've had that's had a really kind of crazy reveal it up to this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: Inquisitor tooth arrives on the battle right after the fight with the Trader Garthman.
[SPEAKER_00]: An angeloce just starts accusing him of being a traitor to the Imperium, mostly because the game has been ramming the hints of that down our throat the whole time.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it turns out he's actually not a traitor.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just a secret of Jackass, like all inquisitors really are.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was just going to say, he's just saying that he's just a douche.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're like, hey, man, again, a 30 second conversation.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could have cleared all of this up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, co-threveals that the planet has a big, like almost rock on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a demon in prison to inside of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the demon is what's summoning the warp storm to the planet, with a goal of trapping souls.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why he's trying to get everyone off the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: and but they've all but Angela's then realizes and then Quiser tooth agrees with them that Alpha Legion digging this up with this relic is probably a bad thing and so they should stop them So they do and they're gonna and so they they launch and a big assault again at the alpha So they're third or fourth attempt to go off the alpha Legion and this time they actually do find the alpha Legion
[SPEAKER_00]: as opposed to fighting the elder or charter guards man or something else.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Alpha Legion, they find the artifact, they win, they fight their way in, and then the guy that immediately got turned to cast picks it up and goes, oh, here, Alpha Legion, and throws it like mean Joe Green with his jersey to the kids, and they go, thanks, bro, and smoke bomb.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it is hilarious.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so ESA Doris, the guy's name.
[SPEAKER_00]: ESA Doris, their librarian, he turns on them and gives the other, it's called a malediction, which is just a lazy naming, but he takes the malediction and gives it to Alpha Legion.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Angelos doesn't like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we're going to put a range-wise.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Angelos.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Isadora.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Alpha Legion guys, and the Isadora has handed the thing to Alpha Legion, and Angelos goes, I'm going to beat up Isadora now, and then he fights Isadora, and once again, the Alpha Legion guys look at this guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a slowly, again, walks out of the screen, he goes, oh, they're not going to attack me.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to leave them.
[SPEAKER_01]: See you later.
[SPEAKER_01]: Goodbye.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand what's happening, but I'm going
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but Angelo's in East Adorce are having a fight and there's just a lot more dialogue than it's really necessary because this is where we learned about Angelo's killing his home planet and East Adorce is basically saying you're a terrible human being and all this stuff, but I want to point out that East Adorce is trying to summon a greater demon into the material.
[SPEAKER_00]: So like, the moral high ground, Angelo says there's not a high ground here, really, yeah, I was going to bring a greater demon into the material, but you, you're a jerk.
[SPEAKER_00]: But eventually Angela does use the line, which is a very classic GW Grimdark line.
[SPEAKER_00]: Innocence must die, so humanity may live.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Kencens is straight down.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are the worst died.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now they have to go get the Syndry guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, again, this time we're going to kill Alpha Legion.
[SPEAKER_00]: They do, they catch up, but as they get there, Syndry takes the blade that was given to him at use of Doris, stabs himself, and becomes a demon prince.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is actually one of the...
[SPEAKER_00]: better battles in the game.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now you have to fight a demon prince and an alpha legion, and it's kind of fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: But at the end of it, you win sort of.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, this part is hilarious because they come up, you win, and then Angela's uses Toss Demon Hammer, and goes the destroy the zone in case in the demon, which an
[SPEAKER_01]: that instantaneously you're like, I wonder what'll happen when I hit this stone with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, as the guys that are all about collecting knowledge and figuring things out, he doesn't even pause the figure.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, it just immediately goes and tries to break the stone with a giant hammer at which point the giant demon of corn just comes popping out with him, because he said,
[SPEAKER_01]: It ain't got out of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know shit, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like what things are gonna happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so what we discover here is that all of this was a plan.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a very alpha-leagent thing has occurred here.
[SPEAKER_00]: all the deaths from all of the battles.
[SPEAKER_00]: This entire planet was basically created to be an altar to corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every single battle, every single thing was feeding into it being absorbed by the malediction and into the demon that was inside the stone.
[SPEAKER_00]: And in the beginning, had they gotten there early.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could have broken the stone.
[SPEAKER_00]: The actually would have killed the demon, because the stone was keeping the demon alive.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because demons can't survive in the material, they need to link to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the stone was almost keeping it able to be survived within the material.
[SPEAKER_00]: But all this death.
[SPEAKER_01]: Got enough porn power-ups from all the deaths in the fight.
[SPEAKER_00]: But now it had so much in it that now it was in the inverse now the stone was holding it and in case it so it couldn't escape into the material with Angelos just did so after breaking it free the demon turns to him and says well basically thanks for framing you guys can leave i'm gonna come kill you later but let's you go home now because you know it that was a it was pretty solid fist bump
[SPEAKER_00]: bump it, bump it, bump it, and which point Angelo's, I know you now and leaves.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he does just leave by the way and like all right.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then that concludes Dawn of War, the very first piece of the game for a couple years.
[SPEAKER_00]: 2006, put it into the back.
[SPEAKER_00]: There actually was a game in between this, but the so Dawn of War went to assault comes out, the Bladin was actually on in that, or their plot doesn't matter for it, that was the guard edition, but in 2006, we get Dark Crusade.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I like Dark Crusade a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: Dark Crusade, Soulstorms better, but Dark Crusades and pretty close to each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: At this time, like Brad and I, the game is set in a polar vortex.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so cold here guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so cold here.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's ridiculous.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so cold here.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is to them actually?
[SPEAKER_01]: It warmed up a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, cool, where it does.
[SPEAKER_00]: What do you ask?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I'm at 15.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm at 15.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nice, good for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like, wait, I'm warmer and I'm further north.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: I am on a body of water.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was blaming Toledo.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just assumed Toledo was like, whatever it is, anywhere else, we're a little less nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's just what it goes to.
[SPEAKER_01]: Toledo proper, by the way, is 18.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am not.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so anyway, out in the ultimate segment to the world of Kronos has been conquered during the Great Crusade at some point.
[SPEAKER_00]: During the Horace Heresy, much of Mars joined Horace.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the dark mechanic, and that's where they come from.
[SPEAKER_00]: They began experimenting with warp powers and machine spirits, effectively infusing dark gods, the game of two machines.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and things like Titans.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the heresy, all these demon engines were destroyed, obviously.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by obviously, I mean, they were not alone.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the story, yes, they totally kept the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just starting hiding them all over the place because they cannot help themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they wouldn't let, they wouldn't necessarily lead.
[SPEAKER_00]: He fully intact, walking, tighten, wandering around, but, you know, pieces.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's wrong with other, that's all that, that's a couple of pieces here and there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The weapons are super powerful too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a one such belong to the Imperial Titan Aquila Ignis, Iness, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: And had a Hellstorm Cannon that was also possessed the demon of Nurgle.
[SPEAKER_00]: A Hellstorm Cannon.
[SPEAKER_00]: is a Titan-level assault cannon that is a rapid fire cannon shooting nuclear warheads that are the size of tanks.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love when GW turns it up to 11.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is designed to just fire, yeah, tank-sized nuclear warheads out of a machine gun.
[SPEAKER_00]: The non-demand possessed version of these can take out void shields of titans, wipe out squadrons of tanks, pull down walls of the fences,
[SPEAKER_00]: After the events of Horace Heresy, the titan that the Hellstorm Canada was in was destroyed by literally liquid hot magma, not making it up in the destruction of magma city, because sometimes they didn't try on naming things.
[SPEAKER_00]: Magmitsity erupted and this Titan got engulfed in the magma, but its Hellstorm Cannon survived.
[SPEAKER_00]: For reasons, I can't describe as bad the mechanic upon finding a demon possessed Hellstorm Cannon went, we should hide this, so they took it and just went out to the imperial colony of Kronos out in the ultimate segmentum.
[SPEAKER_00]: And out there, I guess the advocate built this like research facility where they could just do a bunch of research really far away from segment solar.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about this for a second.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Ed McFans.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Ed McConsistently does this kind of shenanigans.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're wildly bad at hiding it because it's always just happening in the open.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're research facilities are constantly being just like three guys that are hurting goats find it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're wildly just in the open.
[SPEAKER_01]: Our secret research facility, it's right there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It says secret research facility on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I looked at the overmapping.
[SPEAKER_01]: It has an icon on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: This says secret research facility.
[SPEAKER_00]: they're constantly doing this like what's great is this health storm cannon is actively possessed by a demon.
[SPEAKER_00]: So eventually the entire planet that they're on starts getting possessed over and over and over again.
[SPEAKER_00]: So then the canacombs
[SPEAKER_00]: Eventually by the way just get this I do love this part about the mechanical they eventually gave up on it and then is what all right Just kind of blow the planet up So they just bury all this stuff under a mountain call it a day and then leave Of course this planet then later gets recettled then though bad things happen and Kronos is
[SPEAKER_00]: Settled by humans, but it's not doing great with the Imperium because it has no real significance.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a high world, it's not an angry world, you know, just a world really prosper John, when new management from the Tal Empire came out, yeah, it had a glow up, it looked beautiful things were working great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so basically this world sits right outside the town empire and I don't know if it's a which sphere of expansion and happened in but they decided to join the greater good and yeah, the Imperium Worked giant fans of that although fun story they didn't know it happened so it's kind of a funny Not cool that you did it, but we also didn't notice because your planet meant so little to us we'd even notice
[SPEAKER_01]: or because there'll be our accuracy is that thick right away.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so what ends up happening though is there's an imperial guard regiment that was pursuing Eldar after some conflicts on some world named Lauren five, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Eldar at this whole story, by the way, is psyched with hot glue.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love everything about this, though, because we have, oh,
[SPEAKER_01]: in old world that the ad mech was on and doing research and they've started a DNA married and a huge deep in titan artifact and it also gets taken over by the towel.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Eldar come to it because this is actually a Nicarod two more.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that began activating and the Eldar noticed it and we're like, we have to go kill this by the way the Eldar had just finished Devastating a human colony and then left there being chased by actually they're being chased heavy air quotes there The elder didn't care the humans were chasing them.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was like, oh, yeah, those guys there We're gonna kill them too when we get to this new planet, but we have to go kill the necrons
[SPEAKER_00]: So then they're going to this place, and then why not?
[SPEAKER_00]: Gorgots Ed Hunter had also crashed on Kronos because his last wall hit in disaster.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's looking for a new fight to happen.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, because why not?
[SPEAKER_01]: The word bear is showed up and went,
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be in this place because reasons were making it a demon world because of the giant house storm cannon, but they were probably that, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be in this place up.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to summon how many all of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone, all of the demons, all this loads in.
[SPEAKER_00]: But and then the blood ravens have to get there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So how do the blood ravens get there?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's actually funny, the blood ravens find out through rumor about this ad-mic research facility, and they discovered that this ad-mic research facility had actually some of their relics in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they go to the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just to review, your playable factions are Orcs, Eldar, Chaos Space Marines, Necrons, Imperial Guard, and Space Marines.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[SPEAKER_00]: You might be asking yourself, hey, aren't those last two both allies?
[SPEAKER_00]: So, what we get here, and it's this actually better the plot is funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love this game, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Pirro Guard, when they get to the planet, they discover this long buried Hellstorm cannon there, not knowing his demon possessed, and they're like, cool, we're gonna grab this gun, and we're gonna kill everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is gonna be awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Suck it, Tau and Eldar, you guys are all going down.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna secure it for ourselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: then the blood ravens arrive and the blood ravens are there like oh hey we're here to kill all the Xenos on the planet which we're totally gonna do and then excavate all of our own relics.
[SPEAKER_00]: The commander of the Imperial Guard whose name's Lucas Alexander claims that planet for the guard and says I'm the governor militant of the planet and the blood ravens Davian Thool tells him that's great but I'm not gonna take a single order from you so go ahead and help and they decide
[SPEAKER_00]: fight each other, which is just weird.
[SPEAKER_00]: But awesome screws.
[SPEAKER_01]: I throw this out at you because I know for a fact that you didn't want to play the towel campaign.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the towel campaign is really cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, Kevin that I've beaten the game with everyone, but so actually, if I'm sorry, I don't like playing chaos either.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why like reading about chaos, but I don't really enjoy and I'll tell you why.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you why.
[SPEAKER_00]: I find the voice acting by the chaos in these games to be way too over the top and it's just a noise now.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they always get to, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
[SPEAKER_00]: But the orcs are beat this with the orcs the guard the necrons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but again titanium edition guys you get a lot So just for the you know screwing I'm pumping this mods.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's available for free So you guys you'll get it if you get the titanium mod they actually added in a ton more units
[SPEAKER_00]: It's on more units.
[SPEAKER_00]: You get more units, including a Gorkenot and a Stampa, just say, you get a Stampa, and oh, you also get your Genshin's quick off, at least in Soulstorm, and so you get a lot more units.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also better balanced some of the damage ratios and ranges, so the game's much more playable.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just, aside, go get that, it's super awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, the blood raven is decided to attack the Imperial Guard.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is how the play, this is the canon version of the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can beat the game however you want, but the canon version is the blood ravens attack and defeat the Imperial Guard.
[SPEAKER_00]: The defeat dogs and his forces and then she killed him in the conflict, but they do it with honor.
[SPEAKER_00]: As they're defeat in the guardsmen, when the guardsmen were surrender, they would take them in, they would put him in a POW camp or whatever it was, they wouldn't just slaughter them afterwards.
[SPEAKER_00]: So when the conflict ended, the blood ravens had accepted all these surrenders.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they kind of, like, okay, well, you guys just still appearing.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, thumbs up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, sorry about killing all your friends.
[SPEAKER_00]: If it makes you feel better, we have a long history of doing horrible things to the guard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you'll be at any of the catty sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cannonwise, the necrons take the lamest death because they don't really fight back from it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Most hang out.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the collapse, everything on them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what's the smart move?
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, after defeating the guard, they've now established a home base.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the blood ravens, they kill all their factions.
[SPEAKER_00]: the orcs, the tau, the ldr, the drop the chaos off the planet, and then yeah, to Brad's point, they should go into the catacombs and blow up the Necron catacombs and pull everything down on top of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the two-moral just just gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then fool this blood ravens begin like pouring over all the artifacts they can find.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, there's quite a bit there, but we're not done yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the guard filed a formal complaint with the Inquisition about the whole being attacked by
[SPEAKER_00]: Which I put away fair, you know, this is also fair, Leib, yeah, be there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Each arc of planes, yeah, but I'll be honest, each arc gets lots of complaints.
[SPEAKER_00]: This one feels pretty solid of like, hey, they just murdered half of us.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're on the same team.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fine, if you're gonna say something's an actual good HR complaint, I guess, being killed by someone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's a real reason to make a complaint.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, just being on the receiving end of a lightning assault from the space Marines, when you are also a member of the Imperium, feels like a bit much, and then afterwards they admit, oh, yeah, you guys weren't traitors, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we just didn't agree with what you were doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on, how did that HR complaint work out with you?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this is great, because the laws of the Imperium are very simple.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the, this one shows up and they go, okay, well, did the blood ravens attack the guard?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, all right, were they under orders by the Imperium to do so?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, were they found guilty?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, why?
[SPEAKER_00]: Simple because the conflict between the blood ravens and the guard was not heretical.
[SPEAKER_00]: The blood ravens didn't, they weren't heretics.
[SPEAKER_00]: They showed no signs of corruption in their actions.
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't violate any rule of the inquisition because they didn't do anything heretical.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can apparently, as you can, in period can fight in period so long as they don't do it in a heretical way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good to know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now the next time you guys are playing an tournament or playing at your friend's house and it's in period my in period.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, you can actually wage 2,000 point versus 2,000 point battle based on a mild disagreement.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, but what does actually matter from a Cannes standpoint is, a fool does discover something important on Kronos in the art of X.
[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, their chapter history is pretty bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: He...
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know what he discovers, but he destroys all of the relics and becomes very selling afterwards.
[SPEAKER_00]: He won't take part in any of the chapters politics anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: He basically stops being like almost a fan of his own chapter.
[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't turn on the by any means, but he realizes that the blood ravens are not the loyal servants that they've all, or maybe they haven't always been the loyal servants that he believes they have been.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but with that, we're gonna take a break.
[SPEAKER_00]: So next week, we're gonna close out the original Don of War games with Soulstorm, which you'll take two minutes, because the Blood Ravens aren't really in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But then we'll get into Don of War II, the original and the two DLCs, which are pretty good.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's a little bit of a novel, Don of War III.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you guys liked Don of War III, you're not wrong, but I did not.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then we're gonna close out with Brad and I kind of having more of a discussion out.
[SPEAKER_00]: who we think the blood ravens come from, which chapter, what their true origin is and if we think GW will ever actually reveal any of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, with that, John Barcidi Bradchester.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys next week.
[UNKNOWN]: Thank you very much for watching this video and I'll see you in the next video.
