Speaker 3: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:34
Speaker 2: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:36
Speaker 4: Well, welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Monday, May the eleventh. I'm Matt Jones here on a chilly but nice May morning in Lexington, Kentucky, where you can give Sean Mclark's pumping shop phone line. That's eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven avys not a glass text machine is sem seven two s four five two five four In this stition sponsored by the TJ. Smith Office called TJ He'll make them pay. I was in that rhythm right there. It started making me think of did anither of you see the auctioneer skit on Saturday Night. I didn't watch sn L yet, have you seen it? Like it's it might be the most impressive thing I've ever seen that show do. I'm not gonna say it's the funniest, but it is funny, but it's more impressive. They did an like a married auctioneer couple. Okay, all right, Matt Damon and one of the characters on there, Sarah something or other. They do a married auctioneer and they speak to each other only as auctioneers, right, and they go four minutes and Shannon, they talk as fast as auctioneers do these two acts and somehow, I don't know how they memorize their lines. Yeah live because they were like, wait four and they did that, and I was baffled. Matt Damon is the best actor in the world, Shannon, to just pull that off at the end of an hour and a half long show, to do an auctioneer where they're but they're like speaking each other normal life, but like auctioneers.

00:02:10
Speaker 3: So you've got to learn how to first of all, speak like an auctioneer. Then you learn all of your lines within that week. It's amazing that they do.

00:02:16
Speaker 4: That at the end and they've just finished a show. So it's because it was the last sketch on the show. I sit there and watched it this morning, and I watched it like two times, and I couldn't believe they did it. Give them all the oscars, both of them are. I guess it music on television. I need to that's that's a Saturday Night Live. I'm going to go back and watch. It's so weird too, like it feels like everybody. Shannon was really high. Somebody was like, Hi, they're merry couple, but they're auctioneers. So and I love auctioneers.

00:02:46
Speaker 5: Well, you know we have an auctioneer in training in the building, right, John and Billy trying to be an auctioneer.

00:02:51
Speaker 4: Billy's trying to be an auctioneer.

00:02:53
Speaker 3: Somehow it came up on the pre show and I asked Billy, I said, do you think if I got an auctioneer in here with you, you can learn that?

00:02:59
Speaker 2: So he's actual training to become an auctioneer.

00:03:01
Speaker 4: Haven't they like met up already. Has he taken has he started?

00:03:04
Speaker 3: I don't know that he started. We need to get an update on that. But he said, at some point the summer, I had no idea man, and we'll put him up there on stage.

00:03:11
Speaker 4: Well, I've said this before on here. When I was a kid, I would get Larry to take me to auctions just to watch them. I was fascinated by it. There was something about the and and they get all the mannerisms, including she goes you have a fine life, which is exactly what they do with like cows and stuff. I thought it was brilliant, and now I know we can have one here in the building.

00:03:38
Speaker 5: I know a couple of people who do it. And there's a guy in election I can't think of his name, but he goes to all the events.

00:03:42
Speaker 4: We have a listener. We have a listener who like wins contest like around the country, which I don't know exactly how that is. Remember when we did the show. By the way, this is all the news you need. Ryan is out this week, so it's just me, Drew and Shannon, so be ready for this. It's a lot of brain power we have to fill. It's kind of weird where when the most ridiculous one of our show leaves you and I feel less reason to be normal.

00:04:08
Speaker 2: Because Ryan keeps you all serious, but.

00:04:11
Speaker 4: What we have to be to keep his But like when it's the goofy exactly, so you we can go back. But what was I saying? Oh, you remember when we did the remote at the place out there on Ironworks Pike where they sell cows and bulls.

00:04:25
Speaker 2: Do you remember that?

00:04:25
Speaker 5: Of course I had a good lunch there. It's well they got that great food. Yeah, is that the stockyards? The stockyards? That was a lot of fun.

00:04:35
Speaker 4: We watched them anyway, and that'll be Billy soon. That's not, by the way, how I plan to start to show. But I do recommend watching that skit. Here's what you're gonna do. You'll watch the first minute and you'll go, I don't think this is good, and then by the end you'll be cracking up and go, I cannot believe they did that.

00:04:53
Speaker 2: What's amazing to me.

00:04:54
Speaker 3: I mean, I know it's called Saturday Night Live, but I always wonder, like, do they record any of that stuff or as all that?

00:04:59
Speaker 4: No, it will sometimes they'll have like one or two. But this skit was a lot. That's crazy, and he made they go four and a half minutes. He makes one little air at the very end Damon, but I forgive him for it because it was it was unbelievable. Right, Enough of that, Kentucky got a forty one year old man on the show for the team next year. No, I mean he so Kentucky gets twenty five year old Frank kept Nan is kept Frong or Frank? It's got to see So is it Frank?

00:05:30
Speaker 5: I've been saying Frank, but you know, I lean into Frank Frank. I know it's kept Nong, not kept Ning.

00:05:36
Speaker 4: I watched a lot of we need to go with both of these names, so you don't know if it's Frank or Frank. I've been saying Frank, but I mean just because you've been saying it doesn't mean it's wrung.

00:05:44
Speaker 5: But I'm admitting I could be wrong. I don't know, but that's what I've been going with.

00:05:47
Speaker 4: Would you rather it be Frank?

00:05:49
Speaker 2: Yes?

00:05:49
Speaker 4: And just because it's it's new.

00:05:51
Speaker 2: Sounds so sophisticated.

00:05:52
Speaker 4: Frank Frank, and you should be Frank Franklin Keptnong.

00:05:58
Speaker 2: Yes, Drew Franklin would be.

00:06:02
Speaker 4: Frank Kepnon Frank Kepnong. He is from Cameroon but has played This will be his seventh year of college basketball. Just to get a sense. This guy was in Devin Ask you Isaiah, this guy was in BJ Boston's class. That is insane. Do you remember BJ Boston? Fairly? This guy since class unbelievable, unbelievable, and he got his waiver this morning. He's now clear, so he is playing. He is a big old boy. I mean, like, if you wanted Kentucky to have a physical presence, this is a physical presence. That's a man. What's twenty five? I mean, he's a man. I'm gonna go ahead and predict for you right now. Just be ready for the John Caliperi press conference. That's one of my first thoughts. He's gonna be like, who he's out there smoking cigarettes with the child with car payment, Like he's he's gonna do that at some point in the sea.

00:07:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, and we also, I might have to delete a few Chad Baker Mazzara jokes from Twitter.

00:07:06
Speaker 4: I love the pick up. I mean he's played with Severe Wheeler and Keon Brooks and that's insane. Did you know that played with Severe Wheeler and Keon Brooks.

00:07:18
Speaker 5: Budd he also played with Zoom Diallo coming over together for this team. I think he's such a big bruiser. You know, he's kind of the opposite of what Pope Norman recruits. He likes a guy that can step out and shoot and pass. I think Keepnong took one to three in his life. I don't think he knows that there's a shot where three points. But he's a big, physical bruiser inside who finishes above the ram and will cram on some dunks.

00:07:38
Speaker 4: That picture or that video of the dunk which got called to charge, I don't know how I'd never seen that before. That's one of the nastiest dunks. Shanon, did you see that video? Yeah, that's one of the That's one of the nastiest dunks I've ever seen. And he dribbles. You know how we used to say that Brandon Garrison would dribble like Stanley from an office. In that play, he like Stanley from the office. The ball is way out in front of him. But I think it'll be fun. It's nice to have. He's gonna be a backup big man. So for a backup big man, feels like that's a good get. Yeahs.

00:08:13
Speaker 5: You know, this gets later in the process and not many names out there starting to not panic, but like, all right, Pope, we need a good backup center, and this is definitely him. I also like the contrast and style with Malachi in case they need him, especially in the SEC and in practices. I think this could be good for Marino, a big bruiser, like I said, an older guy that plays completely different. I think he can kind of tough him up a little bit.

00:08:33
Speaker 4: Inside. Frank, this is official word, Frank, Kepno, there we go. So I was right, you were right. Good job. So it's Frank, I guess. So he is on the team now. So Kentucky's team as of now looks like this. You have Zoom Diallo point guard, Alex Wilkins at the two, guard presumably Cam Williams at the three. I think it'll depend on what happened when they get here. Who's at the four, ousmann Ji or Justin McBride, and then Malachi at the five. You would then have the other one of those guys as a backup. You've got cap Long as a backup. You got Trent Noah as a backup, and the kid from Washington State who went to George Rogers Clark Jerome Morton. So that's nine. Got Mason Williams. Most kidd I can't like, is he gonna play though? I mean he's a freshman. I mean he could give some minutes if we're relying on him. I forgot about Braiden Hawthorne. So so you you at this point have I think ten guys they would expect to play. Then I would say, Brayden Hall, excuse me, Zion Hawthorne, the the Mason Williams and Rhys Potter kind of your extra see have two spots. I look at that and say, I think you've got a complete team there with one of you gotta have you need another guard, wouldn't you agree specifically one who could shoot.

00:10:07
Speaker 5: They need a shooter and if you know, I think they could use an extra ball handler. But if they can go get Mom Silvich, who's a wing, not really a guard.

00:10:14
Speaker 4: He means the shooter, he's the he's everything. But then like don't you don't you have too many people? Like now we're we got that's five bigs.

00:10:22
Speaker 5: Well you get him and tell somebody else to deal with it. I mean that dude takes you to a top ten team probably, I mean in the locker room, he's coming. Listen, if you can get him. You go and get him. Really, it's how how good at least in the back court, because Wilkins can slide over and take over point when Diallo needs a break.

00:10:40
Speaker 4: It's for me, it's what can We played with three guards last year and I don't think you can do that because the struggled with the first two years. I think you gotta have another one. For me, it's how good can Morton be? Yeah, well, that's a good question. I was gonna ask you, like, who would you agree that the best player on the team is probably Alex Wilkins, maybe Malaki.

00:11:04
Speaker 5: I'd lean Malachi, but Wilkins is more of what you really need, being a scorer and creator like that. But Malka probably the better player of the team with a bigger upside.

00:11:13
Speaker 4: So we agree those are the best players. Who is the most important player to Kentucky reaching whatever their potential will be if.

00:11:23
Speaker 5: You don't add a wing, Cam Williams has to become some three or maybe Hawthorne surprise you and jumps over camp. But one of those two have to make a massive jump yeah and knockdown threes.

00:11:34
Speaker 4: So for me, this team will be as it's constituted, even if it adds no one. I think this team is competitive. I think this team honestly is probably about where we were this year, maybe a little bit better. But what could take that from there to pretty good is one of those two guys being really good. If Hawthorne or Cam Williams takes a step up, then I think you can get into the fact where you're like ten to fifteen in the country. If they do that, and then you it's also a given zoom Diallo's gonna have to be good.

00:12:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, he and Wilkins aren't really shooters. I'm worried that, you know, Pope, who's offense revolves around three point.

00:12:23
Speaker 4: Shoot, we picked another team that can't shoot.

00:12:25
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why Cam Williams, Hawthorne, Trent Noah when he gets minutes. They need someone who's a reliable threat to get spacing and Diallo kind of gets inside and kind of kick out Assisco for threes, and right now, I don't know who he would be passing too. For that, I'm really worried that they're short of shooter.

00:12:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, if one of those guys doesn't step up, I agree with you. I'm you know, I think they're gonna I think they're gonna be very athletic. So here's what I think they improved. I think their bigs are gonna be better than they were last year collectively. Do you agree with that? So I think he definitely improved his bigs. And if you look around college basketball in the last couple of year years, having really good bigs has ended up kind of being important to win at the elite level. So I think he's improved his bigs. I there's a lot of people out there just going Zoom, Diallo and Alex Wilkins will be better than Oway and Aberdeen. I can't say that though we're so good. Last and Aberdeen were really really good, like really really good. If you told me today that Wilkins and Zoom are better than Aberdeen and Oway, then I'm gonna say we're gonna be pretty good. But I want to remind you, oh, we had thirty five, eight and seven in that game against Santa Clair and a half court shot. And by the end of the year, Aberdeen was like leading the team in scoring the last ten to fifteen games.

00:13:40
Speaker 5: He was the consistent three point shooter, barely turned it over his free throws.

00:13:44
Speaker 4: So I think just this assumption that they're going to be better than those guys. You know, Channon put some respect Onzell Aberdeen's name.

00:13:52
Speaker 3: That's a big assumption. That's one of those things. I'll believe it when I see it, but until then, I don't think they're going to be better.

00:13:57
Speaker 4: So in my mind, I think we're our back courts go have been better last year, but I think our front court's gonna be better this year, which means can Cam Williams or Braiden Hawthorne or Trent Noah be better than Colin Chandler was. That's what we're asking and I think the answer is that is, yes, they can be, but I think they have to be. They're doing.

00:14:22
Speaker 5: The problem there is if we haven't seen it from really in him Cam Williams, I feel, but he was getting hot. They just gotten a starting lineup. I only played a few SEC games be where he goes out for the year, and I mean Hawthorne, who knows, we've not seen it.

00:14:34
Speaker 4: I think Mark Pope's roster bill this year only makes sense if he thinks Braiden Hawthorne is really good. But you know what I mean, like in his mind you brought in his brother, You know what I mean, like, clearly you must think he's really good. There would be no reason to not get another guard, not get another shooter, and bring in his brother unless Mark Pope must think he's gonna be good and the problem, I mean, we just don't know because we've never seen him play. But if he is, then I think the team can be pretty good.

00:15:07
Speaker 5: I agree, but I'm a little worried that. I feel like a lot of this roster has some hope in it and not like, oh, we win and got this dude.

00:15:13
Speaker 4: We have to have hope in Pope. I mean, that's the at this point. Unless they add a big time player, You're going in the season with hope more than knowledge, and we'll see what happens. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, I'm gonna during the break, I got a show through just a minute of the skill, so I'm gonna watch it. I can't wait so he can see how good it is. We'll take a break and be right back. Skis welcome back, take you sports radium. You think you could learn to do this?

00:15:42
Speaker 2: Sh and probably not?

00:15:43
Speaker 3: I watch I don't think I watched some of that S and L skit during the break. That is impressive. They can remember those lines really well.

00:15:49
Speaker 4: I mean there's people on here going man, they were reading que cards. You still have to memorize some other like you're not gasked and you're going fast, like you're not gonna be able to just read read like you still got to get it in your head. I don't care if there's qeugh cards or not. Uh yeah, I don't think I could either, although my disclaimers for draft kings are kind of like that.

00:16:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're not read well. They're really bad.

00:16:12
Speaker 4: Okay, now wait a minute.

00:16:15
Speaker 2: Where I love you, man, But you know you don't even say the words.

00:16:17
Speaker 4: Sometimes the words are in the vicinity of what's correct, so you mumble a little bit. I feel like you've added more mumbles, you know. But eighteen I'm trying to get there. Uh eight twenty two eighty seven One person rights, Matt, You defend Pope on everything. See this is the that's you. That's your lead's fault. If calim Berry had recruited a guy like Kepnong, you would have complained endlessly false. He had guys like he had lance where lance where this is lance ware? Maybe a better lance where a better lancewear. But that's what he is. And we had lance where and I was glad we had lance where you'd bring him in with people for a minute, he go back out, like.

00:17:02
Speaker 5: How about lances that? How about land You need an enforcer? Okay, so I think pushing a maucout.

00:17:09
Speaker 4: Around because this is a starting center, then I'm worried if we have a point guard in the starting center from a team that was under five hundred, I'm worried. But he's I don't think he's your starter. So if he's not your starter, then I'm fine with it. I mean, I mean backup bigs like they're hard to get.

00:17:26
Speaker 5: And there's been games in the SEC where guys are just in there to fight, even like Florida Chaniello Malachi didn't have much of an answer for that in some games. This dude is gonna come in and not be pushed around. I mean he can pick up where some of the things where Malchi might still have a weakness.

00:17:41
Speaker 4: Complain that guys are in college too long. What do you do now that we have one on our team.

00:17:46
Speaker 2: I guess I'll have to eat my words. But I liked that our guy is twenty five years old.

00:17:49
Speaker 3: A grown man. Well he can run the car pushing around? Yeah he could, Yeah, he could run a condo. He's pushing around like little eighteen year old kids.

00:17:58
Speaker 4: Oh, there is going to be a sense. Can you imagine, like, who is the frailest player we've ever had at Kentucky? Scal?

00:18:05
Speaker 5: There you go.

00:18:06
Speaker 4: Can you imagine Scout trying to guard this guy? For this guy was scal he would have broken him in half. But it can be good for him as long as you'll hurt him in practice. I mean they need to see that every day to toughen up a little bit. Yeah. So so anyway, we are kind of we're on the same page about this edition. Now the second part of Pope and we'll go to the phones. Pope does his He did his third answer questions video right still, these are very good. I don't know how many lunch longer they're gonna go. But he did it Friday afternoon. The storyline that came out of this one was he said, essentially, I'm not hiring a GM where we have these four people in place, and so I thought it would be important for people to understand who these four people are because for a lot of people. They're just names, right. So one of them, the name that people may be recognized, was Keegan Brown, who they basically he said was in charge of analytic and etc. That's the guy he brought in. We've talked about him and then, but you might have said, well, like who are these other three names? All three of those people that he mentioned have worked at UK for quite some time, so they didn't bring anyone in for those roles. He's essentially giving titles to people that are already there. Two of them are just people that worked in UK athletics, and then the third was the name Kim Shelton. Kim Shelton has worked in around UK sports for twenty years. She worked for IMG, she worked for JMI, or she worked for IMG and JMI then left, went and ran the Lexington Sporting Club for like a year and then now is back to JMI. They said she's dealing with contracts. Well, then over time it became clear Kim is actually doing contracts with businesses. So it looks like Drew. After all the US was settled, Keegan Brown came out and basically was like I thought it was an interesting tweet. Yeah, I mean Mark Pope said four people have four different jobs, and then Keegan seemed to rite I have the jobs. He was basically saying, I'm the GM. That seemed like some damage control after the response to well he basically was like, I'm negotiating with the players. I'm doing this, So he was all but saying like, I'm the GM. So they're not going to bring another GM. And now even though they said four, it really seems like Keegan Brown is the guy and we'll see how that works. I hope it works out.

00:20:34
Speaker 5: I hated they didn't add him till late in the process because even though people want to live in this world that the portal doesn't open till the end of the year, this stuff is done in the dark mid season, and he got here late, so he's kind of already put in a bad spot when he got here. I don't know him enough to know his NBA ties. I know he's the video coordinator for the Wisconsin Herd. I don't know how much they get you in the door with some of these big names, but I still have concerns about people with the real connections. And the thing I want is like an innovative mind that sees this differently than how it's been forever. Like someone with new ideas that can keep Kentucky on the forefront of all this.

00:21:06
Speaker 4: I mean, I'm he seems like a really bright guy. I've never met him. I think he will do a lot of things. I still think they're missing. When I saw the four names, I went, well, they still don't have what I'm what's the problem. They still don't have the person that's going to go out and get in the nitty gritty. They don't have that. And maybe they don't need it, but they don't have it. And you know, this goes a little bit to what I talk about sometimes on and you know, I'm not trying to be I'm not trying to be negative, but on the pr standpoint, Pope was asked two months ago or whenever they brought Keegan Brown in, are you gonna get a GM and he was like, well, we're looking into it, we'll talk about it. Well, they didn't add anybody, so why didn't they just say And when they brought in Keegan Brown, why didn't they just say this is our GM, Like, why not just say that? Because clearly that's what it is. The other people he mentioned are all people that already they worked at Those people worked at UK before Pope got here. Those other three names go back to cow.

00:22:06
Speaker 5: Like one of them and this is just me and you talking. One of them is the director of compliance Mario dorkor this. Can we not have compliance in these conversations? I mean, we should comply, but I don't know if compliance needs to be in the middle of that.

00:22:17
Speaker 4: I just wish, I guess if they were only gonna do Keegan Brown, I just wish he had said that when he was hired, this is our GM and that would have been that because because the other three people, like I mean Kim Shelton I think has worked at UK, going back to almost like Billy.

00:22:31
Speaker 5: I heard Tom Leech say she interned for k Wood. She's a former soccer player like that early nineties. She's been here as long as I have, which means she does a good job. But it's part of UK Athletics being on autopilot. We need new ideas and new people in here to take the next step in this landscape of everything.

00:22:47
Speaker 4: But now we know there's not gonna be another person and we know what the situation is. If I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. Will take your calls, get in some other stuff KSI TJ. Smith personal injury attorney call. He'll make them pay.

00:23:01
Speaker 3: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:05
Speaker 2: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:06
Speaker 4: Welcome back Turkey Sports Radio five nine, two eighty seven. One Person rights, Matt, how did Frank get a waiver? I thought we were doing five for five. It is at starting now, so it's going forward five for five. So the people in now still are on the old rules. But I think it's like going forward five for five and he got an injury waiver. Those are going to go away, but they haven't yet. I think got two of them to end up having a seventh year. Yeah, so he got so lucky on his tomline. That's what one person rights, Matt. Don't you think Diallo and Wilkins will be better passers than Aberdeen and o Way? Yes, they will be much better passers. The question though, is who are they going to pass two?

00:23:49
Speaker 2: When he scores?

00:23:50
Speaker 4: They still need people who will be able to score. And the thing about Oway and Aberdeen is you could write them down for forty to forty five points a game, so you've got to go find those. I mean we again, just compare it to last year, we weren't. We couldn't score enough to win. That was our problem. I think in the SEC, to win, you got to score eighty. Now you got to score eighty. So the question becomes, where do those eighty come from. Last year's team forty to forty five came from Aberdeen and Oway, and it wasn't enough, right And when those besides those two, there was no one that you could rely on that you knew would give you points every game. Colin Chandler had a few games with it, but then he went kind of cold. So the question becomes, you just got to get my roster and show me where eighty's coming from. And I think the only way you get to eighty is if Cam Williams Braden Hawthorne are good.

00:24:50
Speaker 5: And I like the addition of Wilkins and Zoom both. Zoom was my number two, right behind Rob Wright, so I'm happy to have him. But I'll go ahead and say, and I can be wrong, they're not gonna be better. Oh wait, it was all SEC. He averaged more points last year at Kentucky than Wilkins averaged at Furman. Playing a different level I just I'm a big old way guy.

00:25:08
Speaker 4: I don't think you've always been like that. You can play, I mean I could, and not just the points.

00:25:12
Speaker 5: I mean we know that his double was a double figure scoring like every game at three or something crazy. But then also I can think of three, maybe four buzzer beaters.

00:25:21
Speaker 4: It was a special player.

00:25:22
Speaker 5: I think he's a little irreplaceable without getting a couple guys in the spot.

00:25:26
Speaker 4: All right, two eighty seven? Real quick?

00:25:30
Speaker 6: Uh?

00:25:31
Speaker 4: Would you be embarrassed if you were the seventy six ers that the Knicks took your arena over Shannon not just beat you, but the entire arena was Knicks fans.

00:25:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a bad look.

00:25:44
Speaker 3: I mean it's one thing to get swept by the Knicks, which you know they're a good team, but to have that many fans come into your own arena, that's embarrassing.

00:25:52
Speaker 4: They said seventy five percent of the arena was Knicks fans. Can you imagine us playing Louisville and seventy five percent of up areenas Louisville seventy five percent?

00:26:01
Speaker 5: That was my thought washing it because Philly is a big sports stylen passionate fans I pictured in my brain it was like if Tennessee rolled interrupt and just took like that would be unacceptable.

00:26:09
Speaker 4: Unacceptable, And that's what happened. And then I saw they interviewed a couple Knicks fans that were like, look, going to a playoff game at the Garden is over one thousand dollars. He was like, we took the train down here, bought a ticket for three hundred dollars and it was half the cost it would have been for us to go in New York. So you can understand why they would go. But have you did you see the local TV broadcast Shennon. This woman goes live from the arena and she's like, we're here and the seventy six ers unfortunately lost, and the entire she just gets swarmed by Knicks fans. She disappears, She disappears, and the Knicks fans are just going.

00:26:47
Speaker 7: Well.

00:26:47
Speaker 3: Sixers fanss gave up on their own team. They knew they were a cook.

00:26:51
Speaker 2: They were down three to zero.

00:26:52
Speaker 4: Josh Hart who played at Villanova. Okay, so this is he played at Villanova, He played in that arena and won a national title. He's on the Knicks now. He didn an interview after and said I thought Philadelphia was a sports city, but I guess not. Can you imagine if like Anthony Davis came out and said, I thought Lexington was a sports city, but I guess not.

00:27:19
Speaker 5: Heartbreak absolutely, And you're talking about the people that made the trip because it's harder to get in the garden. There's also fun and when you're being the road team and you kind of rally with your fans. I mean they were having a hell of a time in Phillies Arena.

00:27:30
Speaker 4: That was embarrassing. I mean embarrassing. Tyres Maxie like said, you know, this is awful, Like I can't believe it. So I mean they might look back and go I wish we had lost the Celtics. This was more embarrassing than if we had lost to the Celtics.

00:27:46
Speaker 5: Oh they got dunked on so hard, and Paul George looks terrible.

00:27:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, this is awful. Let's go to Jacob. Go ahead, Jacob, Hey, guys.

00:27:55
Speaker 6: Good morning. I got a little scuttle butt and then a question. So I work at Toyota in Georgetown, and we all know who lives in you know, from Georgetown, and it came out on our work page that it's an attention all UK fans. I work with Malachi's dad and he's been really pursued by the Knicks and that he's thinking about staying in the draft. Now let me just let me just.

00:28:26
Speaker 4: Take a step back. Are you saying in the Toyota work page, someone.

00:28:32
Speaker 6: Post like a group it's called t MMK Talks.

00:28:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, just exposing.

00:28:38
Speaker 4: Hey, say, what's the name of it, t m m K talks.

00:28:43
Speaker 6: Yep, yep, and what.

00:28:44
Speaker 4: What what does the tmm K stand for?

00:28:47
Speaker 6: Toyota Motor Manufacturer in Kentucky Talks.

00:28:51
Speaker 4: Wow, shinn And this is this is where all this is.

00:28:53
Speaker 2: Let's getting juicy here, all right.

00:28:55
Speaker 4: So t on tm m K Talks, somebody said they had talked to Malka's dad and that he was in the Knicks. So are you are you suggesting you don't think he will come back?

00:29:06
Speaker 6: That's what the post was suggesting. I think he's gonna come back. I think he'll make more money. And okay, but his dad. Now the person Toyota is full of bss So, okay.

00:29:22
Speaker 4: Wait a minute, I like this. So TMMK talks has a lot of bs.

00:29:26
Speaker 6: Ers a time.

00:29:29
Speaker 4: Okay, gotcha, I need to be on this. Like, first of all, they're talking about this right now. I can tell you right now on TMMK talks, this call is being talked about. Uh well, all right, so you think so you think it's not true, but we'll see. I appreciate the call. I I haven't no point thought Malachi was going to go to the draft, but then I saw I did the visit with the Knicks, and that people who test the waters, it's rare that they visit. I mean, he's not the first one to visit. People have visited, but once they visit, because you know, each team only gets so many visits, so they don't just throw guys out like they I don't know how many they get, but they only get a handful, so they tend to give them to people that they're really thinking about. So that's the first time I was a little worried. I still think he comes back, but it was the first time I was like, okay, cause let me just say this. If he doesn't come back unless we get like Mon Somchilovich, then I'm worried. If he doesn't come back unless we replace him with somebody really good, which we might, then I think we're not good.

00:30:41
Speaker 5: I think the season is cooked if he doesn't come back. Now, I say that.

00:30:44
Speaker 4: I but if they Foch, though, you wouldn't think that.

00:30:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, they still don't have really much of a center at that point, and they got a shoot, and I would worry. Mom Chilovich would look at that roster and be like, there's not a center on this team that doesn't this team doesn't have a high ceiling. What else is out there for me? I would worry about that.

00:31:02
Speaker 4: I'm not well. If they lost Malakai and didn't get Mom Silovich, then I'm I'm worried. If they did, I think they could make that work. I actually think it would just be a different team.

00:31:14
Speaker 5: You'd only have Frank and Rheese Potter at center though. Yeah, but you could just play small five.

00:31:19
Speaker 4: You can. I mean, it's what you'd have to do, and you could get hurt on the glass, but you'd be able to shoot. You'd have fives who could shoot, So you just have to play a different way. I say that, I'm not very worried about Malachi leaving. I'm not anything. I'm happy you got either, although I do wonder what's on T M M K talks, Shannon.

00:31:37
Speaker 3: I do too. But when he said there are a bunch of bs ors, that made me feel a little bit better.

00:31:42
Speaker 4: I'd love to have access on it today because then there's gonna be people trying to debate who he was.

00:31:46
Speaker 5: Oh, this is going to turn into a big story. How many people work at Toyota A lot? Yeah, tons, thousands, yes, give me a I don't know five, I will say six thousand.

00:31:58
Speaker 4: I have no idea.

00:32:00
Speaker 5: Okay, Look, but there's also probably a trust tree, a circle of trust in this group. And you're calling into radio shows six thousand people.

00:32:07
Speaker 4: You can't expect you know, you can't expect complete trust, right, Richard, go ahead, Richard?

00:32:14
Speaker 3: Nearly ten thousand team members, it says, Richard, go ahead.

00:32:21
Speaker 7: Yes, yeah, guys, I apologize. I'm gonna go ahead and apologize. I'm way off track for what y'all are talking about. The State of Kentucky is ranked forty eight out of fifty states in helping the disabled get back on their feet and get back to work and the way you can get back on Because I am disabled and I'm trying to go through this process of the vocational rehabilitation, but due to funds being envezzled and misused. I'm unable to be able to get in program, to be able to get myself going again. And what I'm a podcast listener, so I'm way behind, and hearing Andy get on here and say stuff about the University of Kentucky has got me kind of just tor.

00:33:16
Speaker 4: Okay, but remember, we don't turn this out. We talked about comments, we talked about Andy's comments because they were about UK sports. This is not this is not a political show. I mean, we just so you know. So, I mean, I'm sure whatever we're going through is frustrating, but that's not what we do here.

00:33:35
Speaker 7: Yes, sir, I'll totally get it. I'm just I want to put it out there because people like me or not getting their voices out, because I have contacted people and the only thing they can tell you is send the email, and you send the email and then you get the same email over and over and over.

00:33:52
Speaker 4: Well, I'm very sorry you're frustrating. I understand. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that, and I wish you the best. I appreciate I appreciate the call. Eight. I'm nine two to eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Red State barbecue. Wow. Yeah, Maria too, Mario just made a noise. Mario never makes a barbecue seasons about to kick off in one of the favorite places of Red State Barbecue. Their sauces are showing up everywhere Kroger Liquor bar in Public's Meyer, even Jungle Gyms up in Cincinnati, Kentucky small Batch, and now BlackBerry Smoke. But here's the big news. Later this month, a seventeen seventy six Independence Blend Wow, two hundred and fifty yards of the two hundred and fifty years of American fire barbecue. Yum. So celebrate freedom, liberty and barbecue at Red State Barbecue with the seventeen to seventy six Independence Barbecue Blend. WOA, Patriotism and barbecue. Nothing more American than barbecue. We'll be right back to can So working back Techy Sports Radio eight five, nine two, eight twenty two eighty seven. Just so you know, the reason why we don't have I don't we don't have conversations like with the caller is because of what happens on the text machine of people like it just become that's it becomes about a different topic. So I wish that man and anybody that has difficult. If you know the show, you know, I wish everyone the best, but like, we're not gonna the moment. People will say to me sometimes, Matt, you talk about politics, so it's hypocritical for you to say other people can't. And that's actually a completely fair, valid criticism. But you can't having done this for fifteen years, because then the whole Once one person does, then that will be what the show becomes. And one of the things I've learned over the years is people who really love politics, they love it more than they love anything, and they will not like we can bring up Toyota talks and it will not be that people feel like that's the only thing they can talk about. But if you bring up politics, there will be no more calls about sports. That will be what it is. So that's why that's why there's that rule. It's not because I think my opinion is better than everyone else's. I mean, although it is, Shannon, but but it is because But it's just because, like it's the only way you can do a show like this now. One person writes, Matt, you think a neighborhood Facebook gossip group is crazy? You should hear the tmm K page. It's a Facebook page and it's wild. Now, see like I've got I almost want to go work there, just Shannon, to be on the page.

00:36:43
Speaker 2: Do you think we can get in there and maybe we can like lie on this way?

00:36:46
Speaker 4: I can't even get into my neighborhood Facebook group. They still haven't let me in yet. Well, but now I don't really want to be in, but now I kind of do because they won't let me in. I wonder what's going on in there. Usually, just as much.

00:37:02
Speaker 2: Said, they're talking about you. That's why they don't want you to be here.

00:37:04
Speaker 4: Probably No, I mean, you're almost certainly correct, Shannon, Bobby.

00:37:10
Speaker 2: Cox died, Yeah, I hated the same, all.

00:37:11
Speaker 4: Three of us, all three of us will have strong opinions about this, because even though I'm now a Reds fan, I was a brave fan during the Bobby Cox years. Watched every game from nineteen eighty six to probably nineteen ninety four, and loved Bobby Cox yelling at managers. Yeah, I mean die is the same week as Ted Turner's tough. Yeah, Ted called him home. But Shannon, and I'll let both of you tough Tough a legend in baseball.

00:37:44
Speaker 3: One of the most beloved managers out there. You ask any player that played for him, they will have great things to say about Bobby Cox. You know, was there all throughout the nineties and early two thousands. For me, he was bravest baseball growing up as a Braves fan. Players would come and go, but Bobby Cox was always there. And yeah, you mentioned him arguing with managers. Holds the major league record one hundred and fifty eight ejections over his career and nearly got.

00:38:06
Speaker 2: Thrown out of.

00:38:06
Speaker 3: If you put that together, that's an entire Major League Baseball season, every game. Imagine getting thrown out of a game that was Bobby Cox.

00:38:12
Speaker 4: That's one hundred and fifty eight. I don't think I realized that.

00:38:15
Speaker 5: The best thing I saw all weekend was on Twitter. Someone has a twenty minute video of Bobby Cox arguing with MPs and getting ejected. Watched it twice. Minutes of Bobby Cox getting ejected. It's incredible.

00:38:26
Speaker 4: It's a lot and will never.

00:38:28
Speaker 3: Get broken because nobody really argues anymore. There's no reason to argue. You have instant replay now there's nothing to argue over.

00:38:33
Speaker 4: That's true, so they true always have that record, and he he was like a perfect example of how it's odd that that baseball coaches wear uniforms like. He didn't do what a lot of fatter coaches do, which is where like a tarp over it or something. He had the uniform on with his belly sticking over it. And then he had his pitching coach, Leo Mazzone, who was just back and forth the entire game.

00:38:57
Speaker 5: He also is very unique in that he was the manager, got fired, Ted brought him back to be the general manager, and then he fired the manager and made himself the manager.

00:39:07
Speaker 4: Putting themselves in positions of power.

00:39:10
Speaker 5: But it worked because when he made himself the manager, that's when they went on the big run.

00:39:13
Speaker 4: When he drafted all the legends.

00:39:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, fourteenth straight division titles, ninety five World Series, definitely won the best fourth all time and wins.

00:39:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, so r At P Bobby Cox, all three of us, big part of our our youth passed away this weekend. Justin, go ahead, justin.

00:39:32
Speaker 8: Yeah, Matt, first of all, a long time, first time who what I just want to say, it's it's probably really hard doing the the auctioneer stuff with the nose whistle Okay, you.

00:39:46
Speaker 4: Got to stop. You know, that's kind of died down over the years. You don't need to break you just watch it justin.

00:39:56
Speaker 8: The Other thing is, you know, watching the UK or watching the NBA Draft and all the stuff. There's a lot of UK players that were on there and it's kind of refreshing and kind of made you wonder, you know, they we have all the UK players, we have all that that stuff going on, but we only have one championship under cal and we have all these people complaining about Pope and his draft pit or his recruiting and all that stuff. When we brought Ppe in, we knew that this is what he was going to do. He was going to bring in these lesser known players. He was going to bring in not the five stars, maybe not even the four stars.

00:40:33
Speaker 4: But they don't think that's necessarily undre cr I mean, Pope did say when he came, I'm going to go recruit the best guys, and he did go recruit them. That's the thing about like when you sat like he recruited fourteen of the top twenty guys. Fourteen of the top twenty guys in the class came on UK's campus. Okay, so it's not the case that he's only recruiting lesser known guys. He's recruiting top guys justin he's just not getting them.

00:41:05
Speaker 8: But do you think that Beck could have anything to do with his system being maybe for a different type of guys.

00:41:12
Speaker 4: Maybe, but I still maybe. But like I still kind of wonder what the system is because they were two completely different systems the two seasons, and the system that I thought Mark Pope was going to run. He didn't recruit a team like that last year. And I'm gonna say, justin, this team coming doesn't look like that either. Like, think about those dudes in that first year. Everyone excepta Mari could pick off shoot, had some dead eye shooters. You know, you could see like, that's not what this team is and that's not what last year's team was. So it's hard for me to know, actually just in exactly what Pope's doing. I trust that he'll figure it out, but it's not I will say, it's not what I thought it was gonna be.

00:41:58
Speaker 8: It's true. I just I'm tired of hearing. You know, you get on the TikTok universe and there's all these people telling us that that you can't be a pope fan and be a real fan. And yeah, well they know who that is.

00:42:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, I forget that. I mean, that's ridiculous. I appreciate the call. Nobody gets to decide who's a real fan except Shannon Hey five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven seven seven two seven seven four five two five four be right back our two
