I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (S19E04)
Steve Buscemi robs a bank and takes Marge and other Springfieldians hostage, which leads Marge to call Homer for what she thinks is the final time. It's as bleak as it sounds.
She then breaks a promise to visit him in prison, so he decides to break out and get revenge. The overall positive was that it gave us an excuse to gush over Buscemi for 20 minutes. What a Lord.

In the bulletin Bought in the closet by my love. Fourfinger discount dude, welcome to four figure discount with this week, we're here to review I don't want to know why the cage bird sings. I am Dan and I'm joining right now by a man who was rubbing his hands together looking like he's ready to delve into and rip this episode to shreds. No, no surprise, I am guy. I'm running my hands together because it is cold in July. Yeah, I opened the windows before because jet WoT past? Why did you do walk past? Actually? Yes, thats like we love that dog, But stinker, he's actually be fine now. Yeah, he's changed his medications befo a while. We worked it out that he couldn't eat cheese, so that that's said to give the tablets of cheese. The news news goes, we've allays given him tables of cheese. And then we went to our defriend Michael Ball, and said, can we work out why I just caught him up? Why he's fasting here? And he goes, well, is he alleged to daring? I went, I don't know. He goes, what is he fine? After you give? Do you give him cheese or milk? I said, I'll give the leftover of my kids breakfast in the morning, So yes he does get milk, and yes I give him cheese with every time he has a tablet and he goes, yeah, be the cheese, So never do I givehim cheese. He ain't farting anymore because someone else may be alluded to cheese. Man, I'm going to miss cheese. Rub my hands together, yes, because of Cole and I don't intend to rip this. In New One, this was a just as they mentioned catch potato theater in this episode, this was an episode of perfectly fine theater. You know what it is, it's it's hard to rip anything in the shreds that involves Steve Amy. In my opinion, that is very correct. Let's give a shout out to our friend Steve Ami. And also let's give a what's the opposite of a shout out? A shout out? A throw down acknowledgment, a beatdown too. The person who punched step A Shemi in the face an actual in real life? Have you seen this? Have you heard about? This? Is this recent? This happened maybe last week or the week before. There is couldn't couldn't avoid the bug eyes or that's for Bargo Airli. There is something fundamentally broken with American society at the moment. If you go by social media, which you shouldn't do. But a lot of people in New York City are getting punched in the face. They're getting sucker punched or setting themselves on fire, or setting themselves on fire. But there's a lot of just random street assaults of people. So it also happened. It's happened to a few actors recently as well. Now, if you've appeared in a movie by the Coen Brothers recently, you might want to watch out because first actor Michael Strulbag, star of the Coen Brothers a series man other viewers might know him from the being Timothy Chalamaye's dad in Callen by Your Name. He was also in Doctor Strange got punch in the face. He was just walking along Marney's our business. Someone comes up punch him in the face. Not great, and their name is not Lenny and their name is not Lead. Well that would be in the back of the head though. But then someone recently just ran up the Steve as Shemi, a sixty six year old man's that could kill him, and punched him squaring the face. He could kill you any age. It killed you in any age, I mean, he says. Here a man charged with punching. Steve is held on fifty thousand dollars bond should be five hundred thousand. I'm sorry. There's just some national treasures you don't touch. This is Tom Hanks, Steve Amy, rober Mallins. God rest his soul would have been one of them. Let's just take a moment to sing the praises of Steve ASMI not only in this episode and another episode of the Simpsons. He's a petin films or Quentin Tarantino, Coen Brothers, Good Day Afternoon. That's the thumb fucking he voicecaded. That's Cino. He's pitting films by my man Able Ferrara. He was before he was an actor, or maybe while he was trying to make as an actor. He also worked as a volunteer fireman. He did in New York City, and when September eleven happened, he dragged out his gear and he went down to ground zero and he started helping out. That's Steve Amy. Yeah. Now, if that's in twenty twenty four, he wouldn't have pulled his phone out and said, look at me, look what I'm doing. He just fucking went and did it. He just went and fucking did it. Also responsible for one of the great means of our time. How do you do, fellow games, Yes, and you're gonna punch this man in the face, not having it, not at all, just terrible human being. I'm very disappointed by this, indeed, but I think Steve has probably recovered quite nicely. The only upside of this if he was punched near the eye, it wouldn't look like the swelling would be that bad. Steve, I love you. That's the only reason I'm going to make a joke. He would appreciate that joke. I think, what are you talking about. He's also for nineties kids, the guy who save Billy Madison and put lipstick on. He's a red player in Sandman. You're gonna punch this man. Adam Sandler is on a manhunt right now. He's gone out for him. He trusted you. He's going after him. Little Nicky style or Bobby bchaystyle or Bobby be schaystyle would be better. Yes, you don't mess with the Zohan is what we've learned anyway. But of course on the show we are going to take sand Men detours. Let's not do that. Let's talk about this episode instead. I hope you appreciate that I have turned up American sober rather than Irish sober. Yes, but yeah, this was a perfectly fine episode. Look a few of the issues or faults that I tend to have with recent episodes just it's the same old thing, isn't it. Home is a joke for no reason, just the towns people are cruel to each other for no reason. Now it just feels like it was very mean. Crusty in particular, was very mean spirited in this. I know Krusty's not a nice guy, but yeah, even hibbits interactions in the entire episode, I just thought, where is this coming from? Yeah, I don't know if it sort of speaks about the way American society or the society of the world was at this time. When The Simpsons premiered, it seemed like, you know, people were grumpy or grauty, or they behave badly, but it was usually because we're just trying to get through the day and it's working your ass off and getting nowhere. Yes, something that Dando, you know, currently resonates Bory strongly. We'll get to that. But it seemed like, you know, when you behave badly or acted out. It was out of a sense of frustration or maybe desperation. It's like, Man, I'm working hard and life's just not going my way, whereas this it just seemed but yeah, the fundamental goodness and decency of not just a Simpsons family, but the people of Springfeld kind of came through. Now it just seems like, yeah, everybody's an asshole. Yeah, no one wants to be there anymore. No one likes that anybody else. Yeah. So, and it takes you out of the as a Simpsons fan been watching for the entire series, it takes you out of the moment because you're sitting there going, why are you being so mean to doctor Hibbitt. Yeah. Now, we don't necessarily want the Simpson to be it's a what's a magical man from happy Land who lives in a gun drip has a learning bird blant one of my favorite moments. Well, you're being sarcastic then, right. I think one of the reasons the Simpsons took off when it did and became as popular as it did. It gave voice to a lot of that frustration and desperation that I was talking about. You were so used to, particularly American situation comedy families being like I love you, gazz. That's why al Bundy works so well. It's why al Bundy works and that's why The Simpsons works out well. I mean, the Simpsons didn't go quite as far as as Married with Children did, and no peck ni pick like, oh my life's dreadful. The Simpsons was used to be so great at parodies just that, no peck, Yeah, and look, the Married Children really gave voice to that, but Simpons gave voice to it in a slightly more quite unquote, family friendly, more structured way out. Married with Children was such I haven't washed it for so long, but it felt like it was deliberately just going over the top. Oh yeah, and that's what the audience wanted you listen to. It's like it was it was playing to the the ape inside us all, you know very much. So yeah, and like the polar opposite of something like the two family sitcoms that I always quite growing times or even here, it's amazing. No, I think I don't think anyone's got anything bad to say about Ed O'Neil and Katie Sigole. Maybe David Fastina, but or Christina or Christina Rabbelgate. Everyone loved Christina Rabblegate, and they're viewed as like, oh, these people are exemplifying the worst things about you know, American society and American family. Like meanwhile, not like that greet bill cars. But it's almost like people going, can we come back to being like our Bundy now much pretty much just like sit around. Yeah, but you've got that in the early days of The Simpsons where it's like this is probably more recognizable to you if you've if you actually live in a family unit, you'll have each other's back, but occasionally you want to choke the shit out on one another. That's what the Simpsons was like as well as well. That's what I'm saying that that is what the Simpsons. Yeah, at its core, you know, they're at each other and you are with your brothers and sisters, your siblings, you're fighting. At the end of the day, if someone messes with your sibling, you're gonna fuck that person up, exactly. Yeah. Now, maybe familiarity from between the audience and the show or just but in you know, the people who create the show I'm talking about the Simpsons here atwork created some degree of contempt everyone's getting a bit sort of grouchy, a bit angrier the writer's room. That's what I'm thinking. Maybe maybe that is the case. This is just purely unqualified psychotherapy from your pals down to one guy here. But maybe it's the thing. I really want to start getting more writers from the show, who's to be on the show and just be animated, Just people who were there during this period, just ask them what was the mentality going into some of the gags here, for example, sideshow mal and things like that. It just feels like, at some points you're watched this going, is this a retaliation to the Simpson's not being cool anymore and them not trying to appear cool but just being angry at the world there. It's just it's just I just don't get why there was a crusty in hibbit in this episode where I just went, you could literally have just assigned these payouts to any carry, anybody else. Yeah, yeah, it was the first one I watched. The Krusty Ones seem relatively in character, but hip it could be anybody. Yeah. Yeah. It just feels like, why did you choose Hibbit here? What's the point of all this? I just I don't get but with the story, I enjoyed it, but I can't help but think I've got my notes here. It's just another march helping somebody in these story We've had that. So it seems like ninety percent of her stories now in these teen years, it's the same thing. Whether it be that painter Jack Crowley was was he a prisoner? I think, yeah, that good painter. That was the Michael Keaton when yes, yeah, when Nelson needed somebody because you needed a mother a role, it's like someone's in need, it's just assigned, Marge. Yeah. Now it's a it's a probably a very relevant comment about how women do the bulk of the quote unquote emotional labor in households. You know, if someone if something needs to be done, you go to your what do you go to your dad for? Probably money? I think it's changed a bit now, but that's yeah. But for the majority of life, that's always been the mentality. Yeah, yeah, it's shifting ever so slightly incrementally. But Nicolay comes home now and asks, why is dinner not cooked? I'm sitting there with my kitchen apron on trying to cook, juggling plates and getting the kids. Now he's we don't have the Cara is going to do nothing. Come to the apron. He's a saucy French maid's outfit. Nicholas request, well, you know you've got to keep her indoors happy. But yeah, I honestly think that is the case, and I think get a bit repetitive. Absolutely, when it's oh, Marge's helping out another person. I liked in this episode how I kind of flipped it. Here Normally is the other person letting Marge down, but here was Marge letting the other person down. But I can understand why Marge let him down because you just sort of she said what she said to get out of the situation. Absolutely, yeah, and I mean a small part of her sort of wanted to help him, but then she went, there's the guy who put a gun in my face. Yes, you got a bit real for me this episode too, when she's like calling Homer on the phone saying, if you don't make it, there's a goodbye, my love, And I thought this is getting a bit heavy. Oh yeah, yeah, I mean, you hear more and more things about say I'm sorry to bring the mood of the room down a little bit. But one thing that reminded me of is he reminded me of the nine to eleven calls from the plane. There's that there's also school shootings in the US. I just I don't know. You know, you're having kids sort of like texting their parents saying if I don't make it out of them, like what the fuck? Yeah, but like March, then you can remarry. And I know they trying to make it a gag by having the list of names and things like that. But when she just said goodbye, my love, and I thought, holy shit, this isn't fun, this isn't funny, this is just this is somewhat scary a little bit. Yeah, maybe it was their sort of I don't know them trying to tackle the issue of Yeah. I think at its best, the Simpsons and a lot of other shows are able to dovetail those kind of tones together. You can have a moment oh wow, that actually really affects me, that really resonates with me. But I don't know, the tones don't seem they're grinding up against each other here as opposed to flowing into one another. Did they actually did they explain why he robbed the bank? I can't recall, No, I he had some deep set of issues because of his mother abandoning him and things like that. But there's no reason for him to actually rob a bank. I mean, he could be doing any sort of yeah crime. They wanted to do a dogged afternoon wanted to do and why not? Yeah, But Steve Shemy was good in the role, very good in the role. He always brings it. He always brings it. Has he ever not brought it? Not have if you had a role where you're going, Steve, what do you do it? Mate? I think everyone's always happy to see Steve on screen very much. So. Yeah, I mean pops up in corn heir. As mentioned before, the little girls like would you do it? Little girl? Wait a minute? Nothing, that's one of the great payoffs for like, because you are, as a viewer fucking worried absolute little girl's life. Right, And then when she waves goodbye and the plants like, oh he's good in everybody, he's not killing every just understood. He's a monster, but not an absolute monster. Every That's the thing. Every monster has their limits. Ye, everyone said, no many prisoners right when it comes to kids, they won't touch kids. Obviously, there's a section that will and they deserve whenever they have come into him. But I just loved that the girls ways going you like, I remem watching those on this sense of relief. Yeah, look, I'm I'm pretty sure Jerry Bruckhmer and the team at Conair were going, Yeah, let's lead you down the little the garden part of little bit that we'll put you back. Yeah, they had. If they didn't put that seat in there, that would have been fucked up. There's because it would be. It'd be there'd be so many forums dedicated to what happened to the little girl. Oh yeah, like a Netflix documentary about it. It's great in Conne. Well, one thing great about Conne. You've got this playful of absolute scumbags and monsters. What a great movie. Fantastic move we have to do conye, Yeah, we'll do a movie. Guys, just well what the movies we've talked about that, We're like, we're not even going to do a pole, let's just do that Cone. Yeah. I think we should do those absolutely. But you've got, yeah, this plainful of absolute monsters, Sarus, the virus, Diamond Dog, et cetera, et cetera. People sort of respect and fear Garland Green for Shemi's character because it's like, oh, he's such a monster, but yeah, they don't let him the little girl. And the one person that no one seems to really like or respect is Danny Treyo's character, who's just who's like the serial rapers, like the fuck away from it. Yeah, yeah, I mean you're scared of him because he's Danny Treo, but it's like, I'm pretty sure it's doesn't Nicholas Cage beat the ship out of him? Probably poor Dave Chappelle, poor Pinball had a name too. How good is that that? The guy who wrote that is this little stee peak at Connair Review. Yeah, yeah, there's another reason why she's support us on age this kind of conversation. We just reviewed movies that we love. We why not? I mean we threw it to the patrons and like we revealing some movies had good movies. But we'll just go back to review movies that we love. I think, so it's just more fun. Yeah. Yeah. Connor is just full of the guy who wrote it. As guy named Scott Rosenberg, he recently wrote the the recent Jamalji rebooting. He had a string of in the nineties had a really good run of selling scripts and things like that, and they all like you know, some of them were Tarantino knockops, but they all had really great character names. But the nineties were the best for that nineties, best time we were going to say about Roosenberg, Oh yeah, that's he just wrote these scripts that you know, crime scripts or action scripts or horror scripts or whatever. All the characters always had really fantastic names, really scriptive names. But look at the conne in one particularly that's looking, oh you're kangaroo Jack. Though apparently kangaroo Jack started as the talking kangaroo was just again not an aspect of it at all. It was like a it was originally called Down and Under and it was like an Aussie based crime caper where you know, two guys have got to come to Australia. They're out of the fish, out of water. There's a snow dollar money, yeah, and none of us snowdogs. So dog just had that one dream where it's the dog's talking. You're like, yeah, oh yeah, that's what kangaroo Jack probably was going. Yeah, and the kangaroo sort of bouns off with the money and it's like what the fact do we do now? And now they and then they turned it into like, now let's make it a work, a comedy with a kangaroo talk, and I've just never been he's an Anthony Anderson. It's not exactly yeah, I can take a leave. But see I saw him those guys who seems to have been working forever though. Yeah, yeah, and more power to him. But he was on we watch Wheel Fortune sometimes, Nicola and I right, and he has won a celebrity one right, and he was just one of those people where everyone listen to me, I'm gonna make a joke about everything part Everything's gonna be a gag. And it's like, just say fucking tea, please just buy about like everything has to be a thing. Talking with a mate of man online about a podcast that we both enjoy and there's a guy who's a semi infrequent guest on it who I can very much take a leave. And when I was running to the guy s this is the guy who just ruins every dinner party he's at, just trying to be the center of attention. Yeah, gotta let you know my opinions. I'm just looking at Scott Rosenberg's run sheet here of all these movies things like impost I'm like, I'm gonna watch that great night, great name postal look is cool. I'm gonna watch it. Absolutely need a blurb. But he'd gone in sixty seconds as well. Disturbing behavior Highway. What a name highway? But a good title is you know half your work's done? Man? Well, when I was a kid, it was just the front The front cover looked cool. I'd got to hire that movie. Yeah, it's as we say, rip Roger Corman, one of the best to ever do it. Often, you know, here's a title, come up with a story around that. It's like, what's what this episode felt like? We were to be dogged o afternoon. Write an episode around that. SMI's coming in. Throw him in there somewhere by the way. Time for God to put on his pretentious hat. The title of this episode is I Don't want to Know Why the Cage Bird Sings. That is a play on I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings, which is the title of the autobiography of poet and writer Maya Angelou. It is apparently a searing look at discrimination, racism, and trauma growing a young African American woman. It is supposedly one of the great works of American literature. I have not read it because it just seems terribly depressing, and that favorite moments, favorites, my favorite What were yours? I wanted to I mean, I really liked that they did a Dog Afternoon parody. It's good to see Steve A. Shemy and someone who's meant to look like the late great John Cazal, the co star of Dog d Avenon alongside Pacino, only appeared in like five movies, John and They were The Godfather, The Godfather Part two, The Conversation, also written directed by Francis Coppler, Doged Afternoon and The Deer Hunter Pretty good resumes a lot of that movies. Yea, all certified bangers. Yeah, very interesting just to look at, isn't he? Oh yeah, fascinating face. Yeah. He died very young cancer. Why or did not die in the eighties? How long ago? Oh? No, he died in the like the seventies. Maybe that's why he wasn't in many movies and I guess, Oh yeah. He was also a very renowned stage actor. Okay, and partner, my partner of Meryl Streep. Really no ship. There we go did I know that? Fun facts? What did you learn today, Dano? We can skip to what you learned. Maybe I'm jumping on what we would talk about during the review, but it's funny that it's got this gay joke in it, that Simpson, that the Simpson's doing a lot lately, the whole why do You Two? Boyfriend? Jon? The thing about Dogged Afternoon is that Albertino is actually robbing the bank so he can get the money so his male partner can have gender transition surgery. Yeah, it's amazing that Dogged Afternoon is actually more progressive. It's amazing that they made than this episode thirty years later. I also liked that they gave The Negotiator a shadow that movie, The Negotiating I'm going to ask what your thoughts were. I've never seen the movie, but it felt like another one of those reading reading sign reading sign reading sign of This one had a better payoff though, like closing credits, I was like, that's that's a payoff. That's actually not, but that was it seems. I think they were probably the actual chapter titles of the that's the game. Yeah, worth watching The Negotiator. It's all right, it's okay. Yeah, okay, guys. Initial reaction is usually why Italian, what I should watch it and that to know. But when go goes that's it. Yes, when we sort of you can't see this because Cameron the day, but he sort of like scratched his nose and goes yes, to think about it. No, it was a brief period where let's put Kevin. Let's put Kevin space and everything America be yeah, with some young men are going put him in me. Yeah, I saw that he tried to defend himself recently. Everyone's tearing him to everyone's everyone to shreds, to shreds. A lot of people came out of the woodwork I was about to say, came out of the closet to defend him. That's not exactly the right to No. No, Lean Leeson, Sharon Stone and some other actor were like, he's been in the wild and there's too line. It's given space. He's probably worth something like seventy million bucks. He doesn't need more work. I understand he wants to work. He doesn't need to No. I think it's more just knowing that he's It was like all the body of work that he put in feels like it's probably just going to be tarnished forever. That's probably playing on his mind some of it. Certainly, he probably don't want to do it, just he doesn't want the money. I think he just wants the idea of I think he wants a rapist forever. Please clean some of this garbage off my off my memorial. We don't know enough about nitty and gritty, so let's not get into it. We certainly some of my favorite moments, though, were I liked the this was once abandoned theater before that theater. Yes, I didn't mind the reserve for Mars Stabo in the movie that Marge was watching and whatever what was his name? The Pashimi's character Dwight Dwight Dwight says he returned to prison once he's settled his business. Please say that is more than fair. And that's about it for me. Where do you have anything? I've said mine just touse. She had some negotiator and doctor. I'm sure as we go through we'll be like, oh, that wasn't that was mad? Like that? You're that bit awesome? Remember you did that? Alright? Stonecutters, Katie g gonna be seeing you in a couple of weeks your hundred dollar spport. Thank you so much. It's very very is it next week important to us as the first week of June, so it will be next week. We better get out next week the week after, so it's twenty fourth. I do we record this so yeah in week after? Yeah, about June seventh. I think we've got we've got a week to tidy up the town. Thank you so much, guys. I've been top tier supporters at four Thinger Discount. May I just give a quick shout out to Ginger, not Pickle. Screw that kid. I'm just kidding, but Ginger was very nice. She dropped into the DMS because she has heard me talk about the Lovely Louise and particularly the Lovely Louises little dog RAFFI. I've a similar dog. Yeah, yes, the I was about to say the Pomeraney, and that's not it. What do you call one? Holy shit? Whatever? They are small, little pepion. Little gives me looking things, little gives my looking dog essentially. Yeah. But she alerted me to first of all, a Facebook group that's like local owners of Pepion's. I love that. It's just this random communities like that. Oh yeah, absolutely on the one good thing that social media has done. Actually there are two good things, but we won't talk about the one. But the other thing was, Hey, there's a get together of Papillon's and their owners in Geelong this Sunday, of course, for this the Lovely Louise. She's like, why would you give me this? I want to sleep in but thank you Ginger, very very much appreciated. I have not replied in the DMS. I will do that as well, but I think you'll agree this is a far more you'd appreciate this far more getting a shout out on the show, and next let zack outs it out and next week will be the final episode of the month. So that's what we're gonna be, reading out the names of our newest members of the forth Esista family who aren't quite on the top tier. It's going to go. It's going to go for real because there's so many Next question, you there eating the paste? All right, it is now time for some trivia questions. My first for you, mister Davis, is what is much referred to as in Homer's phone She's big blue? Is it big blue or big blue? I thought baby blue? Is my mind? It is big blue. I've got big blue brute Yet you're right, yes, still over our baby blue. Which funeral home is featured in the school paper? Nah, I don't have that one. It's Conroy's. That's another one of those moments writers went what was happening here? Yeah, let's read the other ad and it depends like, ah, this seems so. Yeah, bake, Yeah, he doing some fourth wall breaking here. Really, he'll buy beer for it, but he won't make you. He'll want to drink it with you. That's not even funny. What's going on? My next question for you? You got yeah. My next question for you is name the people who Homer can marry. According to March, Homer can marry Lindsay Nagel, Booberella and blife down at Okay, well, okay, the mother of Gwyneth Paltrow. Yes, in real life, and she is the mother of Grace in willing Grace. No, don't will in willing Grace in fictional life. Yes? What else does Homer have to do on there? By the way, feed the cat? Yeah, that's right. That was not a question. By the way, well that was a question, but it wasn't a question. It took me back to the moment where Marche I think it's Homer alone, where she's basically saying make sure you do this, and was like, don't worry, I got it. Yeah, I got it. I got it. At the end, cat in the furnace. My question for you, Yeah, Christy was named a poor quality clown by Witch magazine. Not what is it laughways? Ways? And my final question is how early does Homer arrived to the event. He is there one hour and forty five minutes early, fifty four minutes early, because he goes, I'm what's the numeric version of dyslexic? I don't know. It just means I've got to clean my good eyes. But I did write down one would laugh at a man with would you? You wouldn't put Steve as shem in the fees, would you? All right, let's get into our review of I don't want to know why the Caged Bird sings? So This episode originally aired October fourteenth, two thousand and seven, written by Dana Gould okay and directed by Bob Anderson, starring Steve A. Shemiers. Dwight Ted Nugent stars as himself and our lovely Lady Julia. I'm talking Seinfeld. She starts returns as Gloria unless you returned just for that little bit, just for that bit, yeah, good Ald. Similar to when fat Tony Joe Montana, He's like, I have to always voice fat Tony. Apparently fat Tony died. I didn't know this, excuse me. They killed off fat Tony was about to say Joe Montana is dead, and I was like, no, no, no, direct that the character's dead. Yes, but then they brought him back the same so he returned as like skinny Tony or something. But then he got fat against and they're like, you will now be fat Tony. I'm like, what's going on here? That's why I just read about that and I went that sounds terrible. I don't appreciate this. No, it's kind of like when they Lisa the cats kept dying. Remember at the end, they go, let's just call you Snowball, so it's back to the stud It's kind I'm like, it's not snowball. Yes, I do not want. The episode kicks off though with well have we done le board and the couch game? We have not. I will do that now. Actually, so the chalkboall gig. I am not an FDIC insured bank. I'm a little I don't know what to what to make what it means. No, it's like he was someding that was in the news. And you know how the Simpsons rise will sometimes make fun of themselves, you know, like with Harvard hats or Yale hats or completely out of touch, and it's like, let's do this gag. It'll appeal to maybe you know three people, it'll appeals to us, yes, us and maybe three other people. But if those three other people get oh, they'll just laugh at they love it? Will they? Though? I like to think of myself as a relatively smart person, I'm like, this is just you're being a smart ass as opposed to being a smart funny person. I missed the catch because I was busy googling FDA and she would make and then you typed in KFC by I don't care, I have it. Yeah, And the couch gag was home in Marge but at Lisa sit on the couch. Then the scene expands and shows Maggie playing with a dollhouse. She picks it up Homer and replaces him as her pacifiers, sucking on Homer. I'm pretty sure they've views that one before. I think they have. I've I think a lot of couch gags get recycled, which is nothing wrong with that. Recycling is good for the planet and good for us. Yes. Now, the episode kicks off with Bart getting ready for tomorrow. Why is getting ready now for tomorrow? Not really sure, but it's just so I can set up the game. What's tomorrow? Hey, Braid, what is it? I hadn't thought of that? Oh man, I mean why is it getting now? Yeah? I mean how hard is it? And what day the week is it? Is everyone going to school on the weekend? What what's going on here? You wouldn't hold you would at eleven am on a weekday. If you're going to have Bart Marge getting Bart ready for tomorrow, at least to have a like altering his suit or something's like, oh, I'm gonna have to redo these pants or something like that, or this is how you tie tie? Give it? Give us just a little bit, tonty bit. That is what the fuck is the shouldn't the mill anymore? It's just this. We just need a reason for them to get to the school. I'm sorry. This is right up there with the you know, what is it? What's the award that burns the over over achievement of the field of excellence or something most outstanding achievement in the field of excellence? Thank you very much. Yes, yes, that's what it feels like. But Marge says it's just so they can set up march, saying you missed too many important moments. And Homer. I think I wrote here you're not off on with a good start here with Homer being a good father, him debating with marg how drunk can I be at this? I'm like, oh, why are we? Why are we doing this? It has no bearing on the story. He didn't act drunk at the event, So why why is this needed? Why was this whole fucking openly act needed a whole scene? I don't know. Don't don't be late for this event tomorrow. Yeah. We mentioned married with children earlier and how the simptoms kind of made fun of it. I think, yeah, it wasn't. Actually this show is so terrible, but it was like, it's still plucking fun of it. This is Homer literally being al Bundy essentially worse. Yeah. I just don't understand because our Bundy was more just like he wanted to go. Yeah. My problem with this I raised it before and it's now bothering me. What day of the week was this? Well, yeah, it was a weekday because banks aren't open on the weekends sometimes Saturday mornings. Right, So they're giving Lisa the Student of Millennium award at a big event at eleven am on a week day and everyone was just there. Yeah, I don't get it. Yeah, you've oh man, now you've put the You're making my brain start to witch. Oh no, you cannot miss Lisa's big day. And you have to come sober American sober or Irish sober points. You're weight sober point went five points here nine? Wait went out where a stomach full of bread? My final opera deal. Hamer wakes up earlier the next day, six am, and he sees an accident on the way, drives by, realizing no one's hurt. Then he arrives an hour and fifty four minutes early. He's got Makey with him because he thought she was high. Then the bullies are just there. They're saying that these they're reading the school paper awards early scamp for ad Space. Is that meant to be sort of like their writer's take on awards? Serramonzy general, I think it is, ye, And because it makes sense for the bullies to actually believe this as well, No it doesn't, but we'll just rode in there anyway, Marges. Meanwhile, in line for the bank and the Jewish old Jewish men is there just they've done this before usually Grandpat at the front of the line, supermarket whatever, just want somebody to talk to. Margin chats to the What we find out is the robber. Yeah, she's being nice. It's Dwight. Everyone down on the floor. Now this there's a robbery, not a separate robbery. Work together, you mean like a couple. No, yes, oh great, we're being robbed by Johnny and Clyde. Homer then calls Marge because she's late and tries to rub in. Then they shoot Gil. I was like, he's Gill dead now? And then I looked it up and it's like on the Simpsons wiki on the Gilt Gunnerson page, Gill has died numerous times on the Simpsons. Apparently he's been in an exploding car and things. So he's become the new Hans moment. I guess the Kenny, the Kenny. Yeah, but this one here, No one's like an exploding car whatever. Just it's so outrageous, you just like whatever. Yeah, but that exploding car with mument I guess happened in the in the Tress of Horace and then on canon. But seeing him just be filled with bullets here, I'm like, well, no, he's dead, how can he ever come back or he's been He's got like thirty bullet holes in it, and he's laying on the floor bleeding. He's dead. How hard to put a bulletproof vest on him or something like that. I didn't know whether it may have been in reference to the movie. Does that happen in the film. It's been a long time since I saw Dogged after the Okay, but anyway, so all those ones I should revisit. Lou then says we go sixty four g in progress. Oh, man, Wigan was unbearable in this episode. I know the whole it's a shooty steal. Oh sure, he's stealing. The timing's off a lot of things. They've done these gigs forever, but they don't seem to hit anymore. No, I mean, I don't know if it's, like I said, familiarity becoming contempt, But I don't know. I think a good gag plays however many times you watch it. But yeah, for some reason, I don't know, there's yeah, the timing was just yeah, skewif Then the reaction shot after that's like this goes on like maybe a second or two too long. But in the in the it's like inception, you're in that two seconds, and it feels like infinity, like when you're watching the microwave, well pretty much when do they watch but the boil burrito. But this is where Marge calls Homer and I'm going to tell you. I was like, at the end of that, I went, I feel bad now this is it took me right out of the moment. But Homer here, I didn't mind. They don't do anything. They say, be panicky, try and be a hero. That's that is just what Hannah would say, march as you can remarry of court blah blah blah blah. Then the rubber approaches her, which is why she hang up the phone, so you think, oh, it's like going well for her. He then puts them into is it not a safe but where they have all the set deposit boxes or whatever, a vault no funny stuff chaus. He says, don't worry, I'm not funny at all. Gives you that long riff hammer arrives and he says, my current wife is in there. I guess because she said he could remarry. Yeah, that's okay, that actually works. That's nice. I like that. Wigham says, well, you can take over because I've got no stake in this, and I'm like, what the fuck is going on here? And with the diepack? How the diapacks get in there? What were those diapacs about? We know how diepac works, yes, but who put him in there? I don't know, writers, but I understand what they are. But Moleman became a human diepack like he was. He wasn't a diepack, but they put all these things kept exploding. I'm like, where are all these things coming from? They weren't there before, now they're there. Yeah, And the episode has gone off to such a sort of so oh, Star shoots Jasper diabetic that absurd gags like everything being a die pack, which might work under other circumstances. I hear it and it's like, oh, yeah, that's kind of funny. I mean, you know, oh, okay, a die pack in the cash okay, expected No, that's a diepack for me. I think it's because you made that phone call feel so real. Yeah, it's togeous out of it. It's tough to get back to absurdity after you've kept it real. I thought the acting from Julie was great. The goodbye my level. It felt like someone's last quarter that that was a lot of Julie did a really good job. Yes, episode Julie Cabnet talking about the justifications to herself. Oh well, I better go pick what apples for everybody looked at that at the time. Yes, then they get the DVD. If the negotiator out, good gag, good payoff. I like that better than what it was last week, Denny's dolt, whatever it was with reading the signs. Then Angus, Angus, angus, it's Agnes Angus. Young Agnes cries, She just she has kind of check the date. She doesn't want to die. Margin goes to talk to Dwight, and I was like, man, I probably wouldn't be doing this. Don't leave the Sally's clearly a madman. Dwight, use your noodle. If you surrender. Now you're only looking at a few years in jail. I'm telling me you're a good gun. Marge. I can't go back to prison. I've got no wife, I've got no family, I've got nothing. If I give myself up. Will you come visit me in the joint? Hey, if I can say yes the Chinese toys that kill kids, you can say yes to him. Okay, I'll visit your dwight. Oh, Marge, I was afraid I was going to lose you. Oh now, let me help you make your slow transition back to say you just want to go home. You have a new home. No, see you soon, Marge, real soon, just like you promised. Becoming a commercial. Marges are still nervous. She says, you can't visit it. I can buy that. Marge wouldnt want to go to a prison in general. Oh absolutely, She's been to prison for home a couple of times. Remember he was the rat. She wasn't his hair. Oh the little do rag didn't have a comb or something behind his ear. Do you have a do ragon? He was in prison for being a snitch. Yeah, yeah, he had something. I can't what it was. I thought it was like one of those little do rags. Be wrong, yes, but Homer says, you know, he didn't visit in the hospital. He visited the tavern, not the the person. March as she likes to to keep her promises. There's a lot of gags in here that work. All that. Oh on paper, that sounds great, and for some reason just didn't fly. No, just sort of you skim by anything. Oh yeah, say yeah, all the build up on it is wrong. Yeah, and you know so the punchline feels kind of deflated as a result. I thin because Marge follows it up by saying, yeah, but I like to keep my promises. Are going that's right, You're a douchebag Homer. Yeah. Yeah, if you cut it off at the end, yeah, just move the taborn, no move the person, cut the next thing. Yeah, okay, yeah, move on. Don't point out that he's not a good person. I mean, I think we already know that Marge is essentially the moral center of the family and will keep her promises. We don't need or even just her being in the car in the following scene that gives an occasion like, oh, she's on her way to prison. Marge keeps funny excuses not to go though the trader sales sloos dradalarium or whatever sale. And you ever found yourself buying something that you knew you didn't need but it was on salees you just bought it. I'm a sucker for that. I'm like, oh, I don't need this, but fuck that is cheap. Oh yeah, Lou and I would just laugh about this bullish not to buy this at these prices. I've you know, the Woodie is right, Yes, I've got a few of them, but I always wanted this space jam one. Right, And then I saw someone, of course, did just pop the can you believe it? In my Facebook feeds someone something for twenty dollars in Geelong. I used one, but like you can wash them, that sort of fade or anything. I thought, I don't need another one. Nicola won't be happy, but I'm going to bite. And Nicola got home and she went, she walked to the front door. I'm cooking clean the house first season. The better is it's new, and she goes another one. I'll give you the guy version of this. Our friend Zurito's that's a necessity. Yeah, that's that's a need, not a want. But our friends at Jbhi Fi we're having a sit recently now they're having the buy one, get one freeze out and guys like, oh no, no, I've realized, right, oh you're gonna pull a swifty. That's not actually cheaper to buy a buy one, get one free because what they do is they bump the prices back up to the division of price. They you only have two for twenty or two for forty with four k's right, but now they've bumped them back up to like, you know, thirty five dollars each and blah blah blah. Which if you buy the thirty five dollars ones, which are usually on the two for forty deals, if you wait for a two for forty deal, the standard sale when they have a twenty percent off, if you buy thirty five dollars and get two, you're actually paying seventeen dollars twenty five or something each. You're actually paying more with the buy one, get one free sale. Wait till they're back to the two for forty, and wait for a twenty percent off sale. Fun with maths with thank you very much for this is a very good lesson. But with box sets, different big box sets, one hundred fifty dollar box sets, you get two one hundred fty dollars much cheaper. Well played movies don't bother, don't bother? Well, I bothered, no, no, no, no, no, the sum around, but they recently the twenty percent off sale. You have the Oceans movies I did. I'm a big family of the Ocean's trilogy m I own them all on Blu Ray. And it's like yeah, but the four key sets available, So of course I'm hitting up my various nurds day where did you have do a key pictures? Better, sounds better, got a little extra documentary. I'm like, probably never going to watch that extra documently, but it's nice to have it in the bag. Oh no, no anything. If they make the f for special features, now you've got my money. So they did, and so I did. And when I see those two sweet words audio commentaries, I'm like, you have sold me, sir, Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, but I mentioned to lose, like I've got to go into town. I've got to click like the JB and get a little slightly raised eyebrow. And I'm like, I try and throw it in there in like mid sentence. I hope she didn't hear me, but but I told her I've got to go feed the homeless rescue baby from a booning building. I picked up my clicking neck from GB. I get you that massage back and buy you flowers. Yes, indeed, so was that the Sates one you're talking about? It wasn't. Yeah, yeah, but they've got the bar and get one free sale. At the moment, there's a couple of four k's that I mean, I don't think I owned the Lost Boy I bought to yesterday. What did you get? I got Poltageist podcast a on the ones I'm thinking of getting. Yeah, because it was twenty five dollars. Yeah, and then we need a toy story for the all the other toy stories. So I was like, well, we got on four K because it comes with the Blu Ray, which has because some four K is Disney now it's just the four K dis with no special features. And then you look at the Blue Ray, and the Blue Ray has all the special features, and I'm thinking I'd much rather paid less money and get special features. Absolutely, but sometimes they release them as like a four K and Blu Ray set, So that's what this one was. I want, Well, I'll get this one. Then that's toy sorry for for the kids, and poltic Geist for me of course, Nicola Nada, none of you can wear this already get this money baby, you can one, you know, bab it's good. Where were we? Uh much nervous? Marge has gone to shopping not on a La Dando and guy do I defensive though in prison about Marge Cumming's like, no, she's gonna be She's gonna be here. We get snake here. The carricature was really sad. Yes, who wears my mummy? It's funny, But this guy's a gonna draw this ship. I think I've said in the past, I can a little snake goes a long way. I don't want to know too much. This is this is what I've also said's girlfriends. But yeah, sometimes I get the joke that you know, he's his hard and criminal who sort of talks like this. I mean the Simpsons at their peak, it was a show filled with one note character that was there to serve a purpose. You didn't know anything about them. Yeah, they just they they were there to fill a gap there and they were like a small dash of paint. I'm doing a doing great audio, doing miming painting, miming brush style. But he was behold, behold the quicking might and just quick munt and saying bye or something like that. That yeah, I bye was the only thing that he said. But he said and bye. Didn't expect a criminals speak like that. That's funny. But when he gets a whole bunch of lines, I'm like, oh man, it was an excuse. Gloria back though, as long as well, yeah you you win some you some next case we won some JLD. I'm watching this JLD. You know me, I'm watching this going you know what needs a wiki? Four figure discount and guy and Dando, I'm thinking today, this afternoon, I'm going to make us a wiki page because we not have one. We don't have onely moldly because we have. Someone has written on some of the Simpsons episode pages going down it for four figure discount, but it doesn't link to anything. I'm like, well, time to link to it. We need to start making it. We have a wiki page. Next week when you listen to this free feed listeners, we have a wiki page. Go and don't change anything, Do not edit, do not edit please, But yeah, we need a wiki page and LinkedIn. All my friends are on LinkedIn, and there's too many platforms like this that you feel the need to you're on a business now, you've got to be on LinkedIn. All my mates are on LinkedIn. I am on LinkedIn. Yeah, okay, you'd link in with anybody. Well, every once in a while I look at my bang bones. Need to get work needed LinkedIn? Really hell, but you know, if I'm i am quote unquote friends or I'm linked Din as the as the title of the website would indicate, because he can't keep just going out on the street and going that Graham Asher and what she used to be. That guy's giving it away. That is life in the modern media. That guy's giving it away. That is literally podcasting for a living in a nutshell. But no, I'm on LinkedIn, and every once in a while it's like, oh, here's an article I wrote, or you know, here's a podcast appearance that I made. By the way, if you think that I'm good at this, get me on your podcast or hire me to write stuff for you. Not much. That guy's giving away for free, though. It's hard to argue with that. But nobody arrives for Dwight. Marche did not arrive because she's being busy picking apples and hits the five o'clock deadline and she decides, well, it's too late now if I can't do it. That was one of my questions. How far away from the prison was the apple orgit or two hundred and forty eight two and fifty miles. When I say forty eight, that's very specific and also very incorrect. Who's wrong with you? Marge? Is fixing light bulbs now another reason to avoid Dwight. That's pretty industrious. Yeah, fixing a light lob. It seems. Sometimes you look at things though, right, I go, I can save money by doing this. But then I think, but the hassle of having to drive to this next shop and do all this, and the time the petrol I think, is it actually worth it? Probably not? Like lowly light bulbs, the amount of time it would take to fix all these, is it really worth it? I didn't know. I didn't know we could fix a lightlber. I don't know where he could either. I'm just assuming he could. The city has never lied to us in the past, is it absolutely not? No, I don't know. But she throws the phone in the garbage, dispposed because it's Dwight calling, but it doesn't break. It's kind of like a knockie. At thirty three fifteen, the Good Old Snake and Polyphont Ringtones good Old sneak yes, and then Ted Nugent answers the phone, MiG Hello, this is Ted Nugent, the Motor City Madman, urging you to vote no on proposition eighty seven. If we outlaw cross bulls in our public schools, who's going to protect our children from charging elk? Thank you for your time, and as always, Wangeranger. Marge is now watching Cash Potato Theater. I thought a guy would like this title, Guy lives it. And then they started outside and the music was almost like Sicho Bob music. I thought, as it would transitioning to the to the prison here, but it's showing Dwight leaving via the waist as opposed to the clean spring water. Indeed. Yeah, redemption. Well you've got a a shorwshank redemption shout out, and also a Cape Fear shout out, not Cape Fear with an E, but when he walks into the camera Robert de Niro exiting prison in Cape Fear, Yeah, well done. The Martain Scusseezy remake Natty and nineteen sixty something originals during I bought Cape Fear recently. I've never watched it. I'm very excited for it. It's gnarly, man, it's uh, it's really good, but it's also pretty pretty sick. Okay, oh yeah, it's very violent. Really oh yeah, ohh, I didn't realize this. You're talking about the de Niro Nio one. Yeah, yeah, okay, because it came out came out, not that I think the same year as Sunson Lambs. I think Sannson Lamb came at the start of the year. And oh that was ninety one size yet one. Yeah, yeah, you said ninety three to k there before. Sorry, Yeah, there's bits in k Fer Holy shit, because the two were sort of talked about as society. Where is it going, lust for Blood? What's the matter with kids? Did they? Yeah, but they're watching Catch Potato there? What do they given? They name the movie, but it's just Johnny Stabb, Johnny Sam Yeah, I mean what it is. What this movie is is basically a riff on an old gangster movie called Angels with Dirty Faces, Oh as opposed to Angels Angels with Filthy Souls. Yeah, which I'm guessing is another riff on that the animal. Yeah, break my heart when I've learnt that wasn't a real movie. But I appreciate the factcause you could, as a kid, you feel like you've seen the movie. Absolutely, it's not a real movie. Angel Dirty Face is good, though, I mean a very nice morality play. Because all these and thirty had to say crime. Does that pay Jimmy voice, that's right, Chris, that's a right Crane has done pat Jimmy Cagney says, gangster, and he's sort of like the idol of all the local young hoodlands are like, Oh, we want to be like this kid. We want to be like this guy when we grow up. His childhood friend, who is a priest, comes at the end when he's been busting and he's about to go to the electric chair, and he says, these kids are all gonna they're all idolizing you, and they're going to go down the same path you do one good thing in your life, act like an absolute fucking coward when you're about to get the electric chair, and Jimmy Cagy is like, no, not gonna do it. I think that was Robinson. Sorry, you did this on the I tend to suck it all. That's gonna be on migrave side. He sucked it all up. But then at the end, in the most heroic moment of his life, he gets the chair. No, don't put me in the chair. No, I don't want to do it. Okay, So all the kids like, man, this guy's a pussy and he saved his well life for crime. Also not very realistic nineteen thirty dialogue and guards are pussy. I have to I have to watch this now, just the end at least. Anyway, you can probably find it on YouTube. Yeah, I will be doing well. You can also occasionally find your pals down to one guy. Dwight then reads the paper which has her Marg's address and her code is Indeed, that was another one of my trivia questions. The area code is hashtag three or five seven. That's not the area codes. Isn't that the code for the security system. That's what I said, you said for it is the area code. Well that's not what I'm meant. But you're taking me literally, now, what's the problem with you? Then they watching it, she is scratchy the Unnatural, but it's interrupted when Dwight the news report for Dwight escaping and he says he will turning himself in. Was he finished? And they say that seems more than fair. The Unnatural win for a very long time, it seemed, did it. Yeah? The issues s actually and then didn't get an end. No, just kept going and going and going. Yeah, they go and go and go and go and go. Then we get a montage of Dwight watching Marge, whether you from behind it on the jumbo tron to the to the tune of Australian band men it works, who can have been there? And then it is Moe watching her in the dressing room. I do like the gag of him being in the bron car not yes, are you finding that all these all the cars do look alike that when you go to the like the supermarket car park, like I like that car. I'm like, it's every other fucking car I've ever scene. Yeah, you and I have basically exactly the same car. Cars are just cars. Cars Now, you don't get You're not getting a lot of variety of color, of shape, even and everything. People, we're all we're all driving around little boxes. Sad man. It makes me sad. I justly don't drive all that often anymore, unless I'm driving a kid somewhere. I'm just I'm just here, either a taxi service or I'm here. But why go out? Really going to be back here eventually? Wild life now man, But they say that the Platt they go to the Plasta Mountain thing park, It's already takes it to Dialbit's flying keep you cool with a Dibet theme playing in the background. A few other rise there, and he wants a day just so he can remember what it was like before he got abandoned and she but he still won't put the gun down. He's going to be pointing it through his jacket. Crusty, Uh and h would have a bit of exchange here, Krusty, I haven't seen you since that terrifying day. Uh, you'll have to be way more specific. We were hostages at the bank. Oh yeah, sorry, I offered your life for my safety. Look, it's Marge with right. I said it was a spark between them, and you said, no way, I saw it. I just didn't feel like talking to you. Wait, something screwy here. I'm calling the cops. But then they point out the cops and they are shooting the ducks, not actual people. And then Lou says there's a hostly situation. And this is what Wigham says, Wong and actually no. Wigham says he's not gonna do anything, doesn't he at first? And he says that monkey will make a better cheat than either toy monkey or something. Eh. I don't know. Why not have a minute? We ark within this episode of you know, Chief Wigan being which tries to do redeemhi stuff at the end on the pirate ship. The ship, Yeah, I guess, okay, there was. That's why Dwight then saved the day by jumping into the cogs of the ride, throwing his body upon the gears. Dwight basically gets caught sent back to prison. Homer se is gonna be one of the four amigos now to get some odd jobs for him on the outside. And then Dwight gives Marge a little soap thing that he carved out which says, you chet up the guard by a knife, the guard behind me. I can't do that. This is a thought, so you can keep it. And that's the end of the episode. And that's the end of the episode. Yeah, I mean this was better than what we've had so far this season. M I think I'm enjoying the guest stars. Yes, the last couple of episodes, the guest roles have been much more what classic Simpsons would do, where they're playing a character as opposed to hey, look it's so and so as Yeah, I was just about to say, we've talked about this recently, but yeah, it's good having an actor and a name brand on board, but it's not someone who's so famous, like it's so and so. It's like it's Steep a shaming, isn't it? Let him act the man cook And it was the usual Marge helping somebody story, but at least this time it kind of got flipped where but justified in what she did. But she was one letting the other person down, which was a nice change. Indeed, what do we learn bomb? What you learned from the episode with Davis? That you could call it the electric chair? But why do that when you can call it the killer? What couch, the death Davenport, the electric lap, the crow cooker or the scorch stool? What a we you did? Theate notes I did first time crazy man? Well I learned that negotiator it's not worth watching. And the dude who was not al Pacino in DoD D Afternoon, what was his name? John Kazzar was married to Meryl Streep. They were married life partner. Yes, forward, your names will be it's the guy Davis New Name Championship for season nineteen. It's round four, but the current leaderboard stands at this in first position on five points Kyle Clever Kyle Muldoon in third position, sorry, second position. On three points, we have Adam Moorehouse, Jared Hornby and Phil Hawkins and Jay Brother in third position. On two points we have Heath Appleby. What have we got this week? What do we have this week? Okay? One point goes to hell or high stalker. That's Phil Hawkins, which means he is now outright second position as it currently stands before we get to the end of this round. So still Phil. He is on four points now he was on two I actually know was he on three? No? You got one point there, he's now on four. Yes, you get said, yes, no worries all right? Two points go to don't day Afternoon or they always get you with the dose? Don't they? That works though, dot day Afternoon. That's a good name, really does. I probably would preferred that title. Then what we actually got do day Afternoon? I think? So yeah? I like it. That's all Adam Moorehouse. That puts Adam Now oh he's now even first on five points with Clever kle let Kyle gets the three points. What have we got? Well? Who gave us this three point winner? Thief and the Coddler. Oh, not bad. It's neither of those two people. It's actually nobody who's ever been on the leader board yet this season. It's David Mott. MO real plethora of people so far. I like it, absolutely a plethora. Well done, Yes, Moskie done, David Mott so clever. Kyle and adamore House in first position on five points, Phil Hawkins in second on four it's going to earn that Jay, and a third position on three points is both David Mott and Jared Hornby. Thank you guys for supporting us here at four fig just can't remember everyone to be a part of the Guy Davis New Dan Championship. You're just going to be a supporter of ours on Patreon. Al Right, mister Davis, It is now time for the mail bag for this week's show. Open up that mail bag. Bail is here now before we start this week's mail bab, mister Daves, we have a bit of a public notice, don't we. We do. Indeed, we hit pause on record and we had a long discussion, by which I mean Dando talked and I nodded my head. So take it because usually it's guy talking me, it's nodding my head during the podcast, indeed, but I usually just talk shit, whereas Dano actually came up with strategy and plan. So with the mail bags, right, so we get into an era of The Simpsons where people are enjoying listening to us talk about the episodes. They don't necessarily have many, we hope, memories of the episodes, and we thought with the mail bag, they sort of pad the episodes out a bit long. Sometimes they sort of drag on, not not dragon, but you know, they get a bit too long. So we thought, what what we're gonna do now is to shave things up a bit. Is there's been episodes specific mail bags for god knows how long. What we're gonna do now is shake it up, and we just want a general mail because the mail bag itself from the from the Free Feet listeners, the Simpsons mailbag at gmail dot com is somewhat dried up. And we do this show and it feels like sometimes you're just sort of like screaming out into the vortex of nothing. And if we don't hear back from you guys we heard from the pages, we don't hear you guys from listening on the free we won't hear from you. It feels like are you actually listening? So we want to hear from you example of you, Dan. We want to hear from you guys every week now right in Simpson's Mailbag at gmail dot com. Because what we're gonna do is every month. We're not gonna be doing episode specific mailbags at the end of the episodes anymore. This would be the final mailbag at the end of an episode, So a bit of history here for figure discount, We're gonna be doing a monthly mail bag whi'ch just ask, guying down to anything. It can be Simpsons related, it can be whatever you want, and that will be going up as a bonus episode at the end of the month. So you're still gonna be getting Simpsons reviews throughout the month, but then as a bonus episode as an extra, you're gonna be getting a monthly ask, guying down or anything mailbag episode as well, because we feel if we just want to talk about more other random stuff as opposed to just this episode. Because sometimes it can be hard to think, what's an episode based around a question? Based around this episode, there's less and less questions coming through, So Simpson's Mailbag at gmail dot com. If you are listening now and you haven't written anything in, we would love to hear from you. It's one of my many joys of doing this podcast is hearing from all the listeners. So please do right in Simpsons Mailbag at gmail dot com and you will be part of the New Guy and Dando monthly mail bag specials. Wow, you got all that? I think I think I got most of that. Basically, the point is you're gonna be getting no mail back then of the regular episodes, but you'll be getting a monthly extended mail bags as a bonus, as a bone, as a bonus. Just sometimes this is fun to sit down and have to review something and just talk. That's true, that's the plan. So we're gonna be doing that going forward. They may be listening to that, don't you guys do that anyway. The first question here comes from Sam pass So pas papas rising contributor apparently in the four figure discount Patreon community. Is that like a little official yeah, yeah, so rising contributor. Yeah, because Andrew JP is Andrew is the first first to comment on that one, but it wasn't the first part. So he's an all star contributor. Hey, now, so, Sam says, are there any movies that I considered the greatest of all time or cult classics that you guys don't like or are not for you? Mine is Blade Runner. I have tried at least five times to watch it, and I just can't sit through it. I've never seen Forrest Gump in full. I was too young to enjoy it when I was younger. Tom Hanks is wonderful, but I have no desire to see that one missing out there. Andrew Blade Runner, I remember watching it and really enjoying it, but I haven't had any desire to sort of revisit it, and I haven't seen the sequel either. I quite like the sequel, and I quite like Blade Runner. I'm not necessarily someone who's like it's the deepest thing of all time. It's certainly one that I revisit. But yeah, I mean, oh, this is an interesting question. I'm not sure how many sort of goats there are that I'm like. I've never seen the Planet of the Eight movies, haven't you. No, I've bought the new ones because you recommended them to me. I'm going to go back in movies at the old If you said, how fucking weird there. I've seen clips of them and I'm like, this seems so bizarre, like the Underground one. Yeah, absolutely, all on Disney Plus now everything leading up to Kingdom of the Plenty Apps, which is now in cinemas. Oh gosh, this one's on me. This is more classic comedy. I just never really have been able to get into the Monty Python Python films. I'm glad you mentioned that. Actually, yeah, person all, yeah, continue, that's just that's just that's it. That was just I don't want to go on a hate range. No, I don't want I'm not saying they're bad now. I remember watching them at a couple of sort of house parties and some of my friends were just cackling of laughed at and I'm thinking, and is it just me and I had a touch. It's just I know, it's it's differends who were wrong. I can see why you're finding this funny, but for me personally, I just wasn't really getting the big WHOA, Okay, great this is and I know it is amazing comedy. It's just not for me. Yeah, No, I get the same feeling. Actually, I think there's growing up there was a lot of English comedy that really twigged with a lot of people and it just became part of their personality or part of their sort of comic DNA. And yeah, Monty Path is certainly one of those. The Goodies is yeah, not to be confused with the Goonies. Not confused with the goonies, which is also not really my bag either. Yeah, you probably went at the right age for it. No, No, you're late teens, late teens. And if it's a weird movie, yeah, you miss it by just like a year or two. And it's like, no, that's for kids. It's a very nostalgia film. I'm a grim nip. Yeah, I'm looking at here a list movies. I'm gonna throw this out there. You're gonna hate me for it, but it's only because I love the sequel so much more, but only one. I'm just never being sold. I understand this set up the franchise, right, I understand it is what it is, but I think the sequel was just so much more entertaining to me. Oh yeah, look, Aliens is a bono far crab please, And I'm the same with Terminator as well, too, so much, I think because it came out when I was a kid. Okay, I thought we got that nostalgia for it as well. But I just love teaching so much more than T One. I get where you're coming from. I'm the opposite, okay really yeah. T One for me over T too, Okay, absolutely, And I wouldn't say Alien over Aliens for mine. They both they scratch different niches, but it's equally satisfied different films altogether, very much. So. Yeah, I don't know if it's this is necessarily something that's regarded as like a goat or anything like that, but I'm just not a Doctor Who guy at all. I've never watched it, same as Star Trek. I tried watching The First Person Next Generation the other night. I think it may have just been too tired, but I watched this going maybe it just isn't for me. Could well be the thing, Yeah, I mean it could be just the time that it was made and also me maybe just not in the Star Trek. I mean, it's not right, not my thing either. The saying is bad. It's just not my thing. It's funny. I've got friends who are very into Doctor Who, and they will have their like Facebook check group or whatever, and they'll be very hardcore fan base. Oh we bleed. Yeah, I'm not not check with like a DM like you know, like a private message group about doctor who. Yeah, And occasionally one of them will forget which thread they're in and I'll start talking one that. I mean, it's like it's like in that episode, was like, you're in the wrong thread, go back, go back with your other friends to a guy said he's always death. Oh shit, hey, yes, it's two more, replied Andrew J. P. See what else he said? Sam said, Jenny will make you want to jump off a bridge, one of the most annoying characters. No, dude, I don't think she did it pretty hard. Yeah, she did as a child, and she never really got the help that she needed support she needed, so she was locked into a pattern of bad behavior. I did see a meme once. We're saying, I feel like we completely forgot the fact that Jenny was to heal in that film, and she only came back to see Forrest when she realized she had no one else. She got AIDS and she wanted a dump a kid on somebody, And I was like, that's I think that's the plot of the film. I think that's a bit uncharitable. Yes, she made some bad decisions, but she didn't have the supports around her to guide her in the right direction. And yes she had Forest They're always supporting her. But he wasn't going to be putting food on the table, was he. I guess he probably was hatock but in the But was he rich throughout the film or was he just rich at the end? Uh? I think he was well known and relatively popular and therefore probably had a little bit going for him. But when I said the end of the film, I mean, like that his story he's telling throughout the film, doesn't he doesn't He gave Bubba's mum some of the shares apple or something, right, I think so it was a shares shrimp company in the shrimp company. Yeah, he does pretty well throughout, But I mean he was a college football star, that's right. Yeah, And I think they do pretty well, not necessarily financially well for themselves, but you know, it does Jenny pretty pretty good to be on the arm of Forest Gump all American. Yeah, there's a lot to dive into with Forest Gump, but I think we really should maybe dive in properly. Yeah, Andrew says here, I've heard that the ending and what Jenny does is controversial and seen enough parodies of it to get the gist. That's enough for me to give it a miss. Plenty of other excellent Tom makes movies to enjoy instead. No, watch, you have to see Forest Gump. Yeah. Forest Gump is arguably he's defining role besides for kids Woody as in Toy Story. Oh, I think when Tom Hanks does two hundred years from Now, because stay around for it. For Tom Hanks, life is like a box of chocolates. Yeah, it's going to be. It's going to be. Forrest Gump star Tom Hanks died today at the age of two hundred and sixty eight. Everyone. Everyone obviously an eder jepy, but it feels like everyone's seen Forrest Gump. Yeah, absolutely, and quoted it at least once in their life. If you see somebody run, it's impossible to say Forest run, Forest run. Yeah. This sounds very fence. Sitting on my part as listened to what the Mail Day podcast. This is nothing about the Simpsons. Yeah, I like it. It's fun. This is a really good test. Runds what we're going to do Forest Gump is a really simple movie and a pretty deep movie. And I don't mean deep, it's like, oh, it's full of profound mess. It's like you can read a lot into this, or you can you can really pull it apart in a lot of ways, like is Jenny a villain? Is she an opportunist? Is you know she actually the love of forest life? I think it's meant to be that deep though, is it? It's what it's like meant to be a series of events. Yeah, but I think the reason that's successful as it has been, and you know why I cans to sort of resonate. You can pick it apart. There's a there's a fair bit of meat on their bone. Yeah, you can take it as Oh, it's a simple story about a simple man who gets lucky or you know, is in the right place at the right time, or who's innate goodness enables him to sort of flourish. And I still say this is one of my favorite acting performances of all time. This scene, I've said this is when he won the oscar. When he finds out, oh your boy is his son? Hes Jenny and doesn't say the words, but he asked does he have any just but the look and it's like, fucking hell. Oh yeah, that's one of the best active performances I've ever seen. Yeah. They were talking about on another podcast recently and talking about this scene, and I was out walking and I was like, I've got to get home and I've got to put that on YouTube and I watched it. I was like, the way he just points to himself because because he's aware of himself. Oh yeah, absolutely, Yeah, it's it's it's a it's a fucking magnificent It's not it's not an I Am Sam situation. No, no, no, I mean where Sam seems someone sort of plays role. He's like, he's oblivious Sean Pan God bless him, very very very very very good actor and really goes for it in a dedicated way with I Am Sam. I love I Am Sam. I do like, yeah, but to quote Jack and trap Ganda, you went fu low Wood, Yeah, never got word And I don't know You're right about that scene though. In Forrest Company Man, it's it's so it's it's heartbreaking and heartwarming. It's fantasticause it sits next to him watching the TV. Yeah, it's great. No, just Hanks saying He's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen that ship. Yeah, you're fucking dead, all right, Andrew Swan, did you know that Steve Ami was a fire fighter nine to eleven? Maybe? He says a kid. I think it's a bit of a meme. Did you know? Fact? At this point? How do you? How do you do? Fellow kids? There's anothermi meme for you? What else do you this comment before we talk about this stuff, by the way, not at all. How what else do you like by Steve Shemy? I hope you have fun with these questions. I think we may have answered this, Andrew, I think we did. The first chapter of this podcast was Steve for Shemy Love Chris, Melissa Cravats Krevets Crevets Marge did everything she could think of to avoid seeing Dwight in prison. What is your most recent task that you know you should do but avoid all costs? What have you been doing whilst procrastinating about it? The shelves are still not up and the buddy's feet are comfy, But I feel pretty good about myself in general. Mine is selling all the pops and shit that I've got, because get this, I sold some pops on eBay on the weekend. Right eBay charge a selling fee on the postage. Now what So I received eighty one dollars right for it went for eighty one dollars. This pop that I sold right and Danny Phantom Pop and then this person was international. I just put up there in my description. Let me know if you're in national before you pay, I need to work at the exact cost. I just put thirty dollars as a basic thing, but don't pay it yet. We're gonna work out exactly what it would cost depending on your destination. Of course, that is wet and paid it anyway because people don't read their idiots, so they pay thirty dollars for that. And then it was like an extra sixteen dollars or something, some sort of tax or whatever. But I got charge of selling fee based on how much they have to pay for the postage. So I'm eBay, what the fuck is going on here? So I said to Nicolas, I'm just gonna get because I ended up getting ninety one dollars. So it's going to cost me forty six dollars to post this thing, and they gave you ten dollars for it. It's cost I'm paying thirty six dollars to post this thing. I ain't doing that shit, absolutely not. All right, so what's what's your plan. I'm going to say that my son's stood on the popping and damage. Now I'm just going to say it's no longer for sale. I'm looking. I'm not. I'm going to be I should be getting eighty one dollars for this item minus selling fees, and then they just pay the shipping costs. No. No, they're basically making me pay the ship it to this guy and using Germany. Don't know about this. It's something seems wrong here. It feels like we're at the end times of capitalism and everybody is just trying to get the bag anyway they can. What I was going to call it to the movies to see if right. I thought, I'll order some tickets because of the baby session was the set. The cinema was empty, and I was about to buy the tickets, and I thought, it's a six dollar fifty booking fee. How about I'm going there anyway. The fucking room's empty. I might just get a human to serve me and not pay a booking fee. What the hell. So it's like I went to the cinema, bought the ticket, no booking fee, but if I ordered it on my phone, it's a booking fee. Is there's no human into who is worth the booking fee going to? Who Isn't tech meant to reduce these costs, I mean I would. It's like when you buy a ticket for a concert of booking fee, I'm like, well, what are you? But I can the electricity to keep the computers plugged in, But I can go to the cinema, have to deal to a staff, deal with a staff member who's being paid a wage that you're paying as well, and I don't have to pay a booking fee and get it. But you take the human out of the situation, and I have to pay a booking fee. You take the wage out of the situation, and I have. It's sky man. So I just didn't buy. I bought tickets there and say six dollars fifty sudden I get the supermarket. Now I'm getting old, But I got a super supermarket the other day, and I thought I could get in that long ass fucking line for the self serve and serve myself, or I could wait an extra two minutes and have a human serve me. Oh yeah, And I went and I got to the end of it, and I was like, you know what was nice being asked how my fucking day was? Yeah? How many servers have you got in the in the supermarket? It was free going right, And I was like, and you know what it was? So this was a lovely moment actually. So there was an old lady there and there was an old guy in front of me, and it was gonna be me and the old guy in front of me turned around and saw that only had sort of of a basket for me, and saw look a bit of a trolley. He goes, he can get it for me, mate, Yeah, let's me go before him. I didn't have my Wool Worst card of me, so I let him clime to the points for the woolwors card nicely. I'll get it back. But it's just nice going. I am having a good day. Thanks. Oh, this is human interaction. We're forgetting what it's like. Yeah. Look, we're trying not to play too many favorites here at full finger discount. But I think you'll notice that, Aldie, they've still got people at the doing the checkout as opposed to you doing the self service at other supermarkets. We told they had these. We sound so old now, I don't fucking care. It's it's getting to a point where we need to start realizing. My mental state has been the best lately, and I've realized going to the getting served by a person and going and dealing with the person and buy my hoppol and paying my ticket that way, just seeing people were social animals. We need social with people. It makes you feel better. Internet. It's good for a lot of things, but it has fucked a lot of things up, or it is fucking a lot of things. It's not fucking things up. It'll be Andrew JP with this question, aside from Elaine, what's your favorite Julia Lewis, Louis Dryvers. He's written diapers, It's strips. Threw me off there. Louis drivers role. I love her as Selena Mayer in VPS. She's utterly perfect as a narcissistic, power hungry politician who will step over anyone to get in her way. I've never watched VEEP. I've only said I haven't seen all of it, but what I have seen I've really enjoyed. Yes, any other particular roles you like of hers. Yeah, she's been a couple of movies lately, just some sort of low key she has a podcast apparently, of course she does. It's not our turf JLD. I love you, but still, you know, let the up and comers and the up and comers mid fifties division, I have a go jail. There has been in a couple of movies. Well, when I say recently, I think one's like maybe ten years old now. But the movie is called Enough Said? Yeah, what's with Sopranos with Gandalfini his last role was his last role. Yeah, it's a sort of a rom goum about you know, these people who are a little later in life. Are we lucky that we've got the Sopranos finished? Before that happened? It came out of fucking nowhere? Oh absolutely, it would have just ruined the show. It was just so great that we finally got that. We got it before. It was not two years later. I was about five years later, wasn't it. Maybe? Yeah that was a fucking loss. Yeah, miss Gandalfini, that did right, But yeah, yeah, it's a romantic comedy called Enough Said, with Julie Luid Drivers and James Gandalfoeni as this couple who are sort of navigating a late in life romance. And she was recently the lead in another comedy by the same director, a terrific writer director named Nicole Hole of Center. I believe it. He Branson called you Hurt My Feelings, which has one of the great premises. If you're a grady person, this will just fucking hit home for you. She's in a very happy marriage, a very long term marriage with her husband who's a therapist. She's a novelist, and she overhears at a party her husband saying to a friend, Yeah, I'm her latest work in progress. It's not very good, but he's been being very supportive all the time. No, no, keep going. It's great. It's great, but you're saying it's not good. And she overhears, like, oh fuck, what else is you know? What else is he not telling me about her marriage? It's a terrific idea and it's really good. She's's terrific in it. So yeah, jailed, I mean, I really liked her voice roles in A Bug's Life. Well, in Bug's Life, she is the princess, the main like so flicks Princess What is a Bug's Life A Bugs Life cast because we had space in that as the villain. Yeah. Is Dave Foley from Kids in the Horn? Yeah, yeah, yeah, she played Princess Adda. Okay, yes, so she's basically like the main female in the film. She's great now she's also the mother. Onward a really good movie that. Oh yeah, that's some of the death of COVID. Yeah, yeah, because the Pixar Well it's Chris Cratton, Tom Holland. Yeah, it's a really good movie. My kids love it. Yeah, if you ever checked that Onward Worth, it's worth watching. Same with Luca. Luca's another film that came out during the whole COVID time? Is that Is that Pixar? Is that just Disney Animation? There's a lot of those. It's like incanto, Is that just Disney or is that Pixar? Luca is twenty by what Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation? And then Onward I'm pretty sure that's Pixar as well. Is Disney picks us is on the poster? Yeah, there we go. Yeah, that's good be as well. Cool, You've got some recommendations there. Andrew JP as well, as you know, you're big upping deep, which of course you should do. Yes, all right, all do one more question here. That's all we have left. So, Harris Harrison McClure, outside of any Sandman films, what's your favorite Stevemi role? I really enjoyed him in the Soprano Sopranos, of course. Yeah. Yeah, we're pretty much discussed enough about Shemi, right. I think for me my favorite wi always be Billy Madison and con Air. They're the two the rest of my dogs, of course. Yeah, he's fantastic in resond Yes, oh gosh, yeah. Look, I'm gonna go to end this Deemi films. I'm going to say the title and you I would be going, yeah, you don't. Look, I'm gonna be the titles out of you. It's me a bit of a game, guys. Initial reaction whether it's gonna be good or not Steve Bismi films, All right, I'll read it the first twenty Escape from La uh No, not worth it is in like the movie or him h It's a very Steve Bishmi performance, but not worth it. So no, not worth it, all right, Connair? Yes, yes, twenty eight days. I don't really remember him in it. But that's the Sandra Bullock. Yeah, it goes to rehab one. Yep, so we don't remember the reds of our dogs of course, Absolutelynk Cobbler. That's a Sandman one. Yeah, twenty fourteen. Yeah, I've never seen I never seen it. Fargo, Well, yep, me mob, how do you spell it? Then says underneath, who do I Gotta Kill? Me? Mob? Who do I Go to Kill? Nineteen ninety four? Never heard of it? Who Do I Got to Kill? Also known as Me and the Mob Sorry, is a nineteen ninety four comedy film directed and co written by Frank Rioni Rate Rain One, with James Lorinz and Rocco Simonelli also writing. The film star Sandra Bullock, John Costello, to Steve Amy, and James Lawrenz. Okay, I've heard of James Lawrence, a cutsy writer turns hit man for a story thanks to his mobster uncle who gets him the job. Okay, this is a very people seem to like that. Quentin Tarantino. I'm gonna try and make a movie in that vein. Yes, all right, So that one's and so far the dead don't die. Yeah, that's not bad. The recent one. Yeah, with Adam Driver and Bill Murray. It's a Jim Jarmush film, Mister Deeds. Of course, he's in the Samman films. Yeah, he's just he's a sad man man. He's a regular. Yeah, Armageddon. I can't rememb who is again one of the He's rock. He's the comic relief of He's part of Bruce Willis's rock. Count Bruce Willis's relief. He's perfect for that role though. Isn't he the guy who can you can kill off but you love him? Oh? Yeah, I think you can get like a rule emotion out Steve Shemy not again? Does he survive? I'm again? Probably? I think so? Is it just uh what's his face? Spoiler alert? Affleck comes back? He said them all back, doesn't he? Which is the one where a guy goes blind? Is that is that mission to Mars? Maybe? Maybe? I don't think Owen Wilson read the movie where Wilson survives, and I don't think Michael Clarke Duncan survives and armaged a movie. I remember there's a movie where and it's the dude from Drop Dead Fred who plays the love interest of Phoebe Cats, but he's he goes blind. Something happens like bright lives blind him. And then he's talking to his daughter and his wife I think back home via screen and they don't know he's gone blind, and they're telling him your taught us doing this, now your wife's doing that. Okay, yep, no, not important. Let's pick two more films and will wrap up this mail bag, all right, Desprito worth it? Yeah, absolutely earlier Robert Rodriguez movie with Antonio Bandetas and one more. Pick a film that I don't think I have seen things to do in Denver when you're dead. Well that's that's written by Connor's Scott Rosenberg. Oh okay, did you mention that before? Did you? I did? Yeah, I think you play. I don't know if he's mister Shush in that, but he's like's missed the names in Reservoir Dogs. I think he's like the the evil hit man in it, and he doesn't say a word, and he's just like, but you look like Steve a. Shemi, so you're kind of terrifying. He's got the perfect face where you can buy him as a sadistic serial killer but also as a goofball at the exact same time, but they have to change his face. Yeah, I mean in Reservoir Dogs. It's great because he seems like he's not out of place among these other tough guys like Harvey, Guy Teller, Michael Madison and that. But he quickly shows that he's just as ruthless and just as Yeah, he's very dedicated to his code as a professional. It's a really good performance. And yeah, Steve Amy, he's great. It was Mission to mass by the way, and his name is Cavin Smith, Cavanne Smith, Varne Smith. I don't think it's it's not the love interest from Drop Dead Fred. But he's been in films such as The Perfect Bride, You Had Me at Aloha? So nothing really You held Me at Aloha? Oh that sounds fantastic. That's good. That's pretty good at it. That suns that if you don't be met sand Man, that sounds like we have to lay He's Steve won appone in this movie. We're in a way, right, what are you doing? Chris? Who's Who's Kevin? Kevin James? He's lost weight now, I know, yeah, popped up? How Netflix has that annoying thing I you can turn it off where it starts playing ship before you watch it. We got a Netflix but it popped up and I watched like a minute of it. I was like, Um, you're funny, but yeah, you're funny when you're fat. But I mean, I like the fact that he's lost weight. Way Knight's lost weight, John Goodban' last weight. It's great people actually looking after themselves true. Way Night. Yeah, I was surprised by that. Saw a picture of him in something recently. I saw a great clip from his because Jason Alexander has a podcast and you're waiting, yeah, and Wayne Night was a guest on there, and Jason Alexander I think he was expecting a different response, but he goes, I mean, you made reports people saying that we were difficult to work with or we were a bit sort of cold to the guests and things. And he's like, what did you ever think that? Wayne? Wayne goes, you were professionals, and he's like, so it's a yes, and he goes, you just you knew you were the bigger show on TV. So it's basically, you're here on our show, don't fuck it up. And Jason's like, oh, I guess we were. I don't know, I kind of respect that. Yeah, I respect that. Wayne was just like not you didn't go no, no, I respect Jason Alexander saying all that kind of mindsets, like you've come to play on Seinfeld, play on Seinfeld. Yeah, don't funk about. But way now we'll go. That's just a you're professional, very diplomatic of Wayne. All right, guys, this has been our review of what episode was it again? I don't know.
