Listen up Stonehedge. I made a drawing of the platos on March. You
can't touch, especially the hair. Oh you needn't worry. I'm a bit
of an elbow man myself actually a bit different, a bit weird, not
sexual. You take forever to say nothing. Fourth Finger Discount, dude,
welcome to fourth Finger Discount of the podcast that is also certainly worth only five
dollars. This week we hit the review episode h A B F zero eight.
It is Homo Simpson. This is your wife, I add I am
guy. Yes, the person who was always asking what's with the kimono?
Also, what's with this episode? This episode was not fun. It was
like I had moments where I enjoyed it. But when I read that Ricky
Gervais wrote, by the way I'm going to save rickidja bais right. I
believe that's how his last names. I'm apologize when I'm wrong. But I
heard that he wrote the episode, I was like, Oh, was it
gonna be different. It's gonna feel fresh, She's gonna feel you know,
different to the other episodes of season seventeen. But then you read on that
whilst he is credited, you know he come up with the concept of the
idea for the show. The Simpsons writers all came in and did their usual
things, so even he says, he goes, I got the writing credit,
but it was a team effort. I came up with some stories.
I did my stuff basically, And when I first watched this, so this
is two thousand and six, I would have been wow, eighteens when I
came out eighteen Is that right? It sounds a matter about that, um
not what we wouldn't have been eighteen. I was born eighty eight. So
is that write two thousand and six eighteen? Let's do the maths two thousand
and six? Yeah? Was yet? Yes, yes, that's right.
I still hadn't watched the Office, the UK version yet. I don't think
the U maybe the US one may have just started by this point. But
I didn't really know much about Rickey Jervas. I hadn't watched much of his
stuff, remember watching this, going who the hell is this guy? Because
I don't think it was really marketed heavily as string Ricky Gervais much, or
maybe I just missed the promos. I just don't know whether he works in
the Simpsons world, like even when he was trying to do his stick.
They tried to like simpsonize it in moments like when he's trying to tell the
joke to Marge March, like interrupting him and stuff. And I was like,
this is just not working. It's just the two things aren't going well
together. Yes, sometimes you've got a situation where it's like you got chocolate
and my peanut butter. You got peanut butter and my chocolate too, great
taste that tastes great together. This was like peanut butter and shoe polish.
This was they don't both are effective and in their own separate realms. I
mean, you know, when it comes to getting your shoes looking nice and
shiny shoe polish, it's great when you want to tastey spread for you for
your sandwich. Peanut butter awesome. But yeah, Ricky Jerveys has got a
very definite style, certainly around this time. Because I mean, I mean,
you said you didn't recall if they were pushing the whole kind of starring
Ricky Gervais thing. I would be surprised if they didn't, because this is
post the UK version of the offers. This really is upon reflection looking back
now, it's just the Ricky Gervais show. This one, this episode,
isn't it It really isn't really just a showcase for Ricky Java's as well his
particular comic style, because this came out post the UK offers and around the
time that he I think he started his next show, Extras, which was
also very very popular, because Ricky was incredibly hot off the office. I
mean, you know it there was enough of a sensation both in the UK
and abroad that you know, the US brought the bought the rights to it
and made their own version, which of course we all know about a few
times in that era. Think we had Shameless was one we had, They
tried the in between US at point, they tried so many they tried a
version Space Skins was one, I think, yeah, yeah, and the
IT crowd Yeah, I think with the communities, John McHale and the lead.
Then can you American viewers just not enjoy the UK version? Why do
you have to try and make it yours? Just fucking watch it and enjoy
it? Well, I mean they often say, you know that the US
and the UK senses of humor are you know, incredibly different. And if
if you're I think the world we live in now though, it's completely different
because when when things fine to watching things like in the UK they sort of
watch BBC made programs. Now, with such access worldwide, we can pick
and choose whatever wherever it's made. I think that we have like a global
sense of humor almost at the point now which is good and bad. I'm
leaning more towards bad, all long nasty the Australian sort of like that's why
things like Blue and that are doing so well, because they sort of maintain
that auzzy humor. You know, well that's something I mean. I'm doing
some writing with some people at the moment, and one thing we talked about
was um a universal voice with an Australian accent. You know, we wanted
to gre out something that would play worldwide, but that would be distinctive enough
in its and unique enough in its Australian This that Oh, that's that's new
nice unusually four figured discount exactly. Yeah, I mean, god, there
are probably heaps of Americans talking about the Simpsons, but are they doing it
like this? Mate? And so many people took this podcast and just put
a clock in it. You know, Hey, that's your stealer made bet.
Yeah, but but sorry. Going back to Ricky Gervaise, Yeah,
he was incredibly hot off the off the UK office. It started a new
show extras. You know, any every celebrity and their dog wanted to be
part of that, and it it makes sense that the Simpsons would either reach
out to him or that he felt he had enough cloud to say, Hey,
Simpsons, HQ, Ricky, hang on, Rickie dese here, you
know me from the office, you know you know that fat right? Sorry
listeners, listeners, let me know. Was was that a terrible Ricky Gervaise
on? It was? It was enough. Soca was a huge mac Grady
was a huge fan, and him and Algie and met Rickie for dinner and
told him that they wanted him to write an episode. Basically they were huge
fans of his and they approached him. Okay, then that makes sense.
Yeah, I mean, I'm pretty sure they would center the publicity around hot
new comic voice and sensation Ricky Gervais now on your favorite animated sitcom, The
Simpsons, and there you go. But yeah, they're totally very, very
different. I mean, you can tell that Ricky is not really trying to
as much as he's a fan of the Simpsons, and he really cops to
that. He didn't really try to sort of weave his way into the Simpsons
makeup of it all. He just did his thing, the Simpsons guys are
there thing, And I was the hope that well, you guys like comedy,
right, here's a whole bunch of it. It's like, well,
yeah, this is a jigsaw that's all made up of pieces that don't fit.
Yeah, and I don't know, the whole is set up for the
whole HDTV thing, right, the wife swapping that kind of thing, watching
this going this would have been a better storyline for the episode in which they
turned into HD. So oh yeah you have you know the final episode that's
non HD, it ends with them becoming HD when the home when it seems
to get an HDTV. I thought that would have been a good sort of
story, like a meta joke that makes that's a that's a really great idea.
That's a fantastic idea because Shane, they didn't do yeah, because when
you turned on the when they went HD, you just turned on it was
like, oh, it's it's just in white screen now. But I think
if you made it an event where it's like, this is the flast time
we're going to see him in four three, and then they it's four four
three or the sixty nine four three is the fourth is a small one,
the's sixty nine to white screen? Yes, yes, yeah, and then
sort of at the end of it sort of goes and what and goes white
like that. I think that would have been really really cool. Absolutely,
yeah, that's a shame they didn't do that. They did a similar thing
at the start of the Simpsons movie, whether you're watching hitch in Scratchy cartoon
and then it expands out wide. But um, yeah, anyway, but
I just think there wasn't like Lenny's party. And apparently Ricky one of his
favorite characters was Lenny, which is why he did this. But again,
like why would Lenny have all these people everybody's house? Why is missus k
there? Why is fucking sideshow Maladies party? Why is Gil there? Yeah,
there's all these It's like the Simpsons. Now everyone just knows everybody.
It's just it's lost. It's lost that charm of different parts of the community
where they sort of they would meet out a town hall. But now it's
just like everyone knows, everyone knows, everyone hears like it's lost. It's
lost that realism. Now, this honestly felt like the kind of episode made
by someone who's a fan of the show. It's like, Ah, I
get to hang out with all my cool buddies. Yeah, it's like,
yeah, but all your cool buddies don't necessarily hang out together, you know.
I mean, it's great that you're a fan, but at the same
time, you should be enough of a fan to realize that certain parts work
together in certain parts don't. And they're still persisting with Sideshow mel and Cleaders.
They can't go an episode without having a fucking Cleaners joke. My second
line in my notes was, well, my first line was oh hackey marriage
joke right out of the game, and then second and then Cleitus. There
ain't after all, good start, and I've never seen something so highly divine.
And I was like, oh my god, I mean, that's not
even a bad line. In the terms of VS were kind of a but
it was like wow, yeah, yeah. And I don't know whether we'll
ever get a point where TVs will have that sort of response anymore. I
just can't imagine TV's being clearer than what they are now. I know we
would have said that twenty years ago, but prove me wrong. People,
prove me wrong unless you come up with like, you know, the little
magic Genie lamp TV that sits on the on your floor or is built into
your floor and it you switch it on and it comes up and it's like
three D. It's like it's like a stage play. But um what it's
like you're there? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's like, um,
you know Minority Report, the movie Report. You know, of course you
know the movie. But there's a bit in that way we're talking about.
Yeah, I'm not talking about my neo Nazi newsletter Minority Report, but yeah,
there's a bit where cruisers looking at home movies and he's like in the
movie inside the other movie. Yea, yeah, So I'm that would be
the next step if it ever happens, and of course it probably will happen.
It will eventually. Yeah. I don't think in our lifetime though,
but I want it now. I just thought them the writing was just inconsistent
in the sense that the story was that. So the story is that Marge
doesn't like this guy, makes which makes perfect sense. Obviously, she's just
met the guy, but she keeps saying, Homie would do anything to save
our marriage and he loves us and blah blah blah. Episode starts off with
Homework making a anti marriage gag, which wasn't even done the sense of the
whole. Hey just ribbing him, lady. It was like no, no,
he said it, and then he had to backtrack. He realize what
he has said, and at the end of the episode is them is him
serenading the TV, and Marge's like, yeah, whatever, and she closes
her eyes and goes to sleep. I'm like, what he goes against the
whole point of Marge's speech that he just did a minute ago, the whole
point of the Simpsons in general, because I mean, the heart of the
well, one of the hearts of the Simpsons is the fact that Homer and
Marge love each other. Yeah, so I thought they were going to count
it, like the gag was that you were supposed to think you were serenading
Marge, because I thought the balance would the normal thing would be, Okay,
these guys are in an unhappy marriage, but no margin, Homer,
They're the constant. They're always going to love it through thick and thin.
They'll love each other. Nope, he's serenading a television and Marge is just
like, whatever, I'm going to sleep, Yeah, whatever, which pretty
much sums up this episode in a nutshell. Yeah, it wasn't. It
wasn't a great one. It really really wasn't my favorite. But did you
have any favorite moments? That's the question. I have one line, I
have one line. I have exactly two lines. Can I say wine?
Just in case you've got it as well? Go ahead? So it was
Ricky Gervais making talking at the start, Homer goes utiake forever to say nothing.
That was one of my that subs Ricky gerbass up perfectly, it really
does. I liked that and I like, listen up Stonehenge. Oh yes,
yeah, yeah, yeah, that's it. That's all I like.
I mean, I liked his joke. I didn't like the way Marche kept
interrupting it and ruining the flow of the joke. But the joke herself was
like so obvious what he's going to say, but still funny. Yeah,
that would that would kill in it for one of a better term, that
would kill in another context. Yeah, on the office if he told that
and then the people just sat there awkwardly, like looking around and him trying
to backtrack out of it. That would have been funnier. But how do
you Marge just sort of go, oh, this is so great. I
love what you're saying so far. Oh, this is so funny, and
I'm like, shut yep, you're fucking with the flow. Yeah, because
I mean, Ricky Gervais's whole persona is essentially he's socially awkward and he desperately
wants to be liked. Yes, he thinks the Yeah, he thinks he's
the class clown or you know, the court jaister who can just like I'm
the life of the part, you know, go make everyone He's not cockney.
I don't know why I did that accent, but I just like to
an accent. Um. Yeah, and that joke on another one of his
shows, like on extras or likes David Brent on The Office, they'd be
like, yea, works nailed it. Fantastic in this context, and particularly
with the way, as you said, Marge kept charming, and it's like,
well, this is making an awkward situation even more awkward and less funny.
At the same time. It's no, no, you got it all
wrong. Not great yeah, I mean, I don't know. I mean,
I'm very much. I'm kind of torn on Ricky Gervay's in general.
I got to say, I mean, I think he's a the stuff he
did with the office and to less decent with the extras, I think is
really quite brilliant. I mean, I think he's kind of fearless in terms
of making himself the butt of the joke, and when he goes in,
he goes all in on it. And that's that's very admirable, very impressive,
and very very funny a lot of the time. But I think there
are other situations where he is legit intimately trying too hard. He's almost like
David Brent for real, or he's like you gotta love me, come on,
come on, love me. You know, I got sick of the
stick of Oh I can't. What's he gonna say at the Golden Globes this
time? I'm like, yeah, I mean, it was funny the first
time, but now you just want to be expecting it. It's lost,
the lost, it's lost. The teeth. The teeth had been sort of
he's been defanged as a result. It's almost like going you're going to a
roast now when the first time everyone's like, I can't believe he said that,
and then the next time it's like, Okay, what's he gonna say
this time? Oh yeah, you got them. It's like I'm pretty sure
he's going to be sort of glad handing backstage, like all good fun in
it. Yeah, So there's a there was. There was a great um
moment though I sort of meme recently with him on It must have been because
you know, I've been saying his name at home, and it's my algorithms
like, hey, you like this guy as all these Ricky Davey's memes get
popped up. But it was like he was on um Who's the host with
the Black Glasses, um us host talk shout host Colbert Cobet on the Cobee
Report whatever, Yeah, and it was like he's talking about how he's not
religious, and Cobear is like, then what do you have faith in if
you don't have faith in God? And he's like dogs. I'm like,
yeah, amen, brother, dogs. I can see dogs, I can
touch dogs. They love me back, like I have faith in faith in
dogs. He's a big animal guy, I mean, apparently a shit,
a ton of money and he's going to leave all his all his money to
animal charities. I mean, full credit to him. He is living his
best life and he hasn't changed for anybody. That's the thing. Yeah,
I mean to his credit, he does walk it like he talks yeah,
yeah, which which is great. But I mean there are also occasions when
he's been sort of called out for I mean, his stand up. Apparently
he's very kind of tell it like it is. And sometimes that's good and
sometimes that's a bit. It can be a big bunch of old mate that
we're listening to when we're walking into Super and Over that day. Oh that
guy. I'm just like, if you listen for some context. We'll go
to Super over to catch up with our man Jim Cummings, and we're walking
in and it's just like I want to say, security guard or just a
random guy wearing a high views vesting it he was actually doing anything. He's
just like standing there talking to himself, just going you know what, yeah,
and just you know what. I tell it how it is, mate,
Yeah, and no one someone tells me what to do. I don't
change for anyone. I'm talent how it is. And we're just like what
is happening right now. He's guys having a conversation with himself. Did he
have the phone, Well, it wasn't speaking directly into the phone down and
using it like a walkie talking. Maybe he did, I don't know.
But whoever, I'm never more fun of. He was just talking to himself,
just announcing his philosophy to the world. I'll tell her like it is.
I tell it like it is. It's like, I'm not racist,
mate, I don't judge anyone. I tell it like it is. I'm
you know, basically I'm racist to everybody. But essentially around this time,
around two thousand and six and then Ricky Javis will So he was doing it
a series of televised interviews with like his comedy heroes. He did one with
Larry David from cur The Enthusiasm, but most notoriously did one with the late
great Gary Shandler. Wow, Okay, and Shandling was not a fan,
I mean didn't get the ship. I think they just had different world views.
And I mean I think Ricky jas was like a real mega fan of
Gary Shandling, and Gary Shandling's just like I'm not sure about this guy or
and Shandley was also just like a third Dann black belt judo master in passive
aggression and just kind of sunk the knife into him ever so gently. And
I mean it's on YouTube, And how did Ricky handle that? I think
he was kind of like, oh, we're all we're all mates here and
all this kind of stuff. But he was meant to do five of these
Ricky Gervais meats shows. He did three, and then according to a source,
it's like Shandling just killed him. He's not doing anymore after this.
Really, Yeah, so I mean, I'm pretty sure you can find it
on YouTube. Yeah, I do find that kind of interesting because I think,
you know, I think he's very good at what he does, but
I think he also has a few sort of blind spots and weak spots.
So anyway, as well, and I'm gonna say this episode is kind of
one of them. I guess they were trying to sort of bring his office
character to the Simpsons well, but yeah, it just didn't work. Next
question, you there eating the Beast. It is trivia time, which means

the shout out to mister Davis this time. Now for sum trivia. Hit
me with your first question. Okay, then what kind of sports center is
near Lenny's building? I had no idea. What is it? Springfield Higher
Lie? Oh? Okay, then I had no idea what that one was?
All right? My first question is Fox is ranked? What it says
on the side of the building where they're driving into the lot. It's the
It's the number two network with prisons between eighteen and forty nine. Right,
correct, Well done. Back to Lenny, how many months did he date
the woman in the woody woodpecket costume? Six months? Three months? Half
that I'm there, three or six. I'm gonna take six. I got
it wrong. Don't don't come with me to a casino. My next question
is who do they say? Whose face did I say, put over the
top of the Homer's ass? There aren't enough pixels in the world when he
when he's moving the camera, I said, don't just slap someone's face over
it. Oh um, Oh it was a Ryan Seacrest Ryan Seacrest, the
name who you don't hear very often anymore. I mean, you know,
he's still he was all over the news. I probably still is American.
Ide was still going. He's probably still believe so don't we're still doing those
shows. But he was, um, he was, Yeah, one of
those guys. I always just seemed like an absolute prick, even though I've
never met him. He was always betrayed as a preaky, sort of held
himself like he was just an arrogant guy. But I'm assuming that's just the
stick he was playing, kind of like Simon cow He's just he's going to
play that character like there's no way he is that kind of person in real
life. Yeah, well, yeah, that's true. I mean I'm not
sure in all, Yeah, but he's sort of had that very smug,
smimy thing going on, didn't he kind of like remember the guy used to
host is now a politician in New South Wales at James Matheson for an Australian
idol Channel V. I don't forget the day I met that guy and he
was rude to me, just ruined me. I loved Channel V growing up.
Andrew g who is now Gunsberg. But oh, absolute champion. I've
met him a few times. Lovely, lovely person. Right, and he's
to co host Channel V with this James Matheson, And man, James was
just so rude to this little like ten year old Dando. Didn't have any
time for me. Just break my spirits ten year old Dan. I mean,
I can understand being rude to like eighteen year old Dan. Yeah,
yeah, you're probably a duche. But they're doing like some live broadcast down
here from the beach and like live on Channel V. Remember he was there
and I was like, oh, James, can I please have your autograph?
He just looked at me and goes, I don't do that, and
it welled off and I was like, I wasn't I want to go home?
Mom't God channels seem more like and you know what the C stands for.
Yeah, he was just like, I don't do that. No.
I was so sad. I'm really sorry, man, that's terrible. Voting
for James Matheson go hell no, we are not indeed all right, what's
your next question? We'll do one more each. What is the name of
the cameraman who smoked a joint in Bart's room. I want to say it's
Dug the Doug. You would be correct and saying yeah. My final question
is who was c Simami? No? Who was led him in talking to
Alias? I always going to kick out of Home's stories where you just can't
decide what's real and what's not. Now here's the thing. This is a
neat little time that I when I was doing some half hour's research. I've
forgotten exactly when he was on it, but Ricky Javas had a guest role
on Alias. He did Okay, Then who did he play? He played
like a bomb maker for the IRA. Okay, he plays a good bad
guy. Look it looks like a villain. Yeah yeah, because he was
most known for his comedy the Stage. And yeah yeah. And I was
watching Alias because I really dug it. Atlis was the top show I've never
watched. Yes I should because was that. Want to borrow the box set?
I got the box set here. Man, I think they're all on
Disney Plus, but I would have taken that for sure. Yes, do
you want to borrow? Do you want to borrow my discs? You want
to get up every three episodes to put it a new one in? Oh?
God like a savage like a caveman. But no, he's but he
yea. I did this guest spot on Alias playing this playing this IRA guy,
and I was like, holy shit, Riggs really bringing it here.
This is good staff. He plays them the second villain on the Muppet movie
Muppets Most Wanted My Kids. I love it, love it. Yeah,
he plays a good he's called Dominic bad guy that and he plays a lot
of good a lot of good actors in that one. Isn't really offering that
one as well? Yeah? Yeah, they and apparently was like they were
going to make a third Muppets movie, but because I didn't do too well,
they counts the third one. But I highly recommend Muppets Mayhem, very
very good. The fourth Figure Discount Network is brought to you by our incredible

Wife was March when we see two thousand and six, written by Ricky Gervais
and the Simpson stuff obviously and directed by Matthew and as stuck. There was
a Choppo. It was actually a full intro. That's actually something we should
have touched on. So when this originally aired in the BBC. On the
BBC in the UK, they had this live action reimagination of the Simpsons intro
and I remember watching it. It didn't look that good. It was kind
of random and weird, but they apparently used that intro for this episode.
It was like a tie in. So now the ratings for this episode but
like double what they normally would get. There was like two points something million.
Normally only got a million, so it was a big deal having Ricky
Gervais on The Simpsons in the UK. Anyway, Um, did did that
intro star Keith Nettem? Yeah? I want? I wanted? Did the
choppol gag I will not eat things for money? And the couch gag was
the live action one, as I was saying, but um, yeah,
it's when you watch on Disney may do something with the with the board gag
as well. It wasn't the one like I will not laminate dog Deal or
something. I think the most similar to Marge versus of the Monorail original airing
taken from the Sky one promo I will not Laminate dog Do in the rerun
airing. Oh I don't know it was, yeah, because they they've changed
it for Disney Plus and the reruns because the one on Disney Plus now has
them the spit whether it's like the four moves most in Coals, Yeah,
yeah, well no, that's the that's the that's the cat, that's a
that's a cash ga for This is the original in this in the um.
In the original air it was a live action one. They all run and
sit on the cat the board gag. Yeah, the boar the board gag
was in this one. Here. I believe I will not laminate dog Do,
but the original one said, oh will not eat things for money.
Right there we go. Yeah, confusing, confusing. Anyway, we got
so much going on in this episode, not much of it funny. But
the episode kicks off with Homer and Marge driving to Lenny's party, discussing what
the announcement may be, the potential for it, and Hammer makes a anti
marriage joking why would he want to do that announce and he's getting married,
and as we said earlier, it just goes against the whole point of the
story anyway. But then we get clear us and branding. They've been left
out because they're afraid of using the uppity box and I've just got here.
Was that needed? But anyway, we arrive at the party now and carl
Um is dancing, then realizes that he has to work tomorrow, so he's
going home. I'm like, He's having this on a weekday. What what's
got so all these people don't work tomorrow? What? What? What is
happening? I mean, I'm a sucker for anything that's you know, ain't
no party like a so and so party, because a so and so party
don't stop one of my favorite things to say. But yeah, in this
situation just sets up more questions than provides answers. Yeah, I was not
happy about and this is it's just weird. But Homer and March's randomly in
Lenny's bedroom just looking at various things on his walls. If they see him
on the fake magazine cover and things like that. Yeah, now you were,
of course. I mean I know a little about the Simpson. You
know a lot about the Simpson. When was the episode when he said don't
tell anyone how I live? That was Reality Bite season nine. Yeah,
so he's moved up in the world. Lenny's life is very all over the
shop. It always has been the cot Nuity because he had that house where
they're playing cards with them, you know when they say, um, you're
slow, and he goes something said not good and then Lenny's house that day,
Um, and yeah, I don't I don't know. Lenny sometimes rich,
sometimes he's got a girlfriend because he's like cleaning someone's toe nails, and
it's it's it's weird, so that the cotnulity of Lenny's personal life has always
been up and down, but this one was just weird. I just I
don't know, just because yeah, I mean, he must have did well
at a scratchy from the Quickie Marty. He's got all this money apparently n
large, I just I don't know ask questions anymore. But apparently he was
dating some girl from who was in the Woody Woodpecker costume, and she left
him for the guy that cleans the vomit on the on the roller coasters.
Then we get Mo, who's really annoyed that Lenny's cut his salary at an
angle another jet doesn't go anywhere. It just gets angry and everyone goes and
that's it. I mean, it's it's a typical Mo joke in that um
you're like, hey, you think it better than me. Yeah, but
when you always get your salary on the angle anyway, But yeah, I've
just got my notes. Why are the van happens here? But Lenny reveals
that the big thing is he's got a plasma screen HD TV, and I
was gonna be a plasma That is dated. We still have HDTVs now,
but remember when plasma felt like it was the big deal yet a plasma?
Oh my god. Yeah. Do you remember the first time you saw like
high definition TV? I remember the first time I saw like a flat screen
TV. It was just like, Okay, we've hit We've hit the new
millennium people. I remember seeing it on my buddy Steve's plays. It sounds
like your buddy Steve is the guy that he's that mate who always has to
have the first of everything. He's an early adopter. Yeah, I mean
he was the first I saw the first time. No, I didn't mix
me. He's married to consumerism. He feels that void with with the new
technology. Yes, and friends, he's got a rich, full life.
But yeah, first time I saw HD and blue ray was over at Steves
joined and no, admit I smoked a little bit of Jazzyrett, But honestly,
it was like someone had kicked a hole in the wall. It's kind
of looking at real life. Yeah, that's the thing. It was like,
as we said earlier, how can TVs? Can it be clear?
That this. I refused to believe it. Although people talking about, well,
they're bringing at eight KTVs and I was like, I don't know.
I don't think I need eight K TVs. I watched these four K blue
rays and I'm like, yeah, they're fine. Yeah, you're gonna have
to start giving my eyes an overhaul. Yeah, you're gonna have to do
I don't think my eyes can handle this many pixels. But then sidehe mel
I've literally got my notes. Please fuck off. It's great. I just
I'm really sick of Side. It's become a joke now how often he appears
just to yell at one line and it never appeared again. No. Homer
then says he's going to spend the rest of his life on this couch,
and we get a parody of two thousand and one in space Obyously, we
already had one of those, and recently I think, well, these face
Homer is the cause, the most famous one, that's the big one obviously.
Yeah, but it's it's it's such an iconic kind of thing that even
if you haven't seen two thousand and one, you kind of know it.
Maybe it was on like South Park or Futurama or something that I maybe it
was Futurama, probably on Future Had It. Yeah, yeah it could.
We obviously do a Future More podcast as well. But he jumps out the
couch. I've got his skinner and bubble. Have we have I missed something?
Are they now a thing again? Did I forget that? Or are
they just sitting next to one another? Because like he has his arm around
her, it's oh okay when they're like troubbing off the couch, like rubs
his arm around her. And I don't know, I swear the last time
we saw them together they were like she was like hating him, you know,
one of those things that they just forget about and just bring up whatever
they feel like it. Look at the picture quality, you could see the
soulist emptiness in that shark's eye. Two and a Half Man. You could
see the soul its emptiness and Charlie Sheen's eyes a bit of a Charlie Sheen
gag here he was. He was one of the biggest stars in to work
at this point, wasn't he With Two and a Half Man? He genuinely
was. Yeah, it was everywhere when he had that meltdown, that was
just like everywhere wasn't it? That was so weird? What was it was
winning winning and Tiger Blood was winning and Tiger Blood. Did he reveal that
he was HIV positive during that interview as well? I think, so yeah,
is that something that that's something like everyone's forgotten about. I mean,
I'm not saying, oh, you should have a scarlet h on his shirt
all the time, but it's like it's kind of a big deal. Yeah,
I could be wrong. It seems about right though, But that was
it was such a such a bitter, messy ending to that show, wasn't
it. How he like they replaced Dash and Kucher and they squashed him at
ever you seen the final episode. It is such a circle jerk. I
never really got into two and a half minute. I'm not a fan of
the Chuck Laurie school of comedy, just like the big, big theory kind
of thing. None of that kind of suff although he did do the kause
Minsky method on on Netflix, which is good for old Fox like me.
So so yeah, Lou and I really dug that, but you know he
did. He wrote the theme for Teenagement Ninja Turtles so good. It's multi
talent to dude, It's just that his talents are not necessarily to my liking.
But you know, he's making all the moneys. So there you go.
Um, but the kids come to try and get Homer take him home
again, but they stay because the HDTV as well at this point not,
as he said, not everyone had the HDTV. So when someone had one,
it was like, So, I was like, when one of your
friends has a pool table, can we go to Steve's house. He's got
the he's got the TV. It's funny, Steve actually does have a pull
table. Yeah, it's like, hey, the foot he's on, we
shouldna watch the Steve's house. Yeah. Yeah, Steve just got to be
shorthand for now. The guy's got everything. Yeah yeah, exactly. Yeah,
it's gonna be our new thing out to my man, Steve. Exactly.
Yeah. It sounds like a great dude. Sounds like my man.
If I wasn't married, i'd be Steve. I'm still got to m Steve.
It's just like a woman that puts up with me. But so he's
Um, the kids are there, they're watching TV. They're watching the Dancing
Coal Saw instead of the Rainbow outside. Then Lenny starts throwing matches at home
and to get him to leave, and I was, kids, just let
me take a photo of the TV. And he's already done it, obviously
because they showed him in the wall. And that's the end of that chapter.
But that sort of sets something in motion because now Homer wants an HDTV?
How can he get one? Another long winded way to get there?
Though, wasn't It was like five and a half to six minutes of nothing,
So Homer wants couldn't Homer just what part walked through the shop and seeing
the HTTV and then he wants one. It certainly was long winded in the
way that it was like a long drawn out fart. Yeah, which if
you're doing it you're very proud of, but when you're not doing it,
you want to immediately. It's it's entertaining and a great relief. This was
this, This was neither have you ever been proud of a fart? Yes?
I have as well over a few times I've done. I was like,
that was that was impressive, Brendan, well done? Oh yeah,
that that had real kind of gusto and the ones that do it. But
I feel better for having done it. It's like, holy shit, I
feel like a kilo lighter. Have you ever farted in public or at a
party or whatever, done it quietly enough where it's seeped out and then either
wandered away or just hung around, but you could tell everyone smelt it,
but you get away with it. Yes, they're the best ones, aren't
they? You really are not my best fart story. But it's not even
well because I wasn't the one parting. It's the drop your gut story,
was it? No? No, I've already told that one. That's that's
out there in the end public domain. Now. I was at the supermarket
on Paco on Packington Street for non Geelong people. Um, and yeah,
I wasn't right behind this dude, but I was close enough, like it
maybe a trolley's length away from him. Yeah, And he clearly thought there
was no one else in the ocause he's just cog leg and let one rip.
And I was like, I was like, what what doppen I keep
in the brick wall? Just where it? Is it Lenny who's getting chased
by the osaka flu when the box opens? That's what it was like.
I'll never forget one of the funniest, funniest things. I was like,
on Live TV. This kid asked the reporter, can I catch COVID if
my fan fat in my face? Like fair question, that's legit, Like
you know, during the COVID era, we'll write about people coughing and that
kind of thing. People just fart in the right sound up, didn't give
a shit. Ship party was all over our face. Up, bring your
mom on. I give a fuck about it, e cal, I just
worry about this guy OVID thing, stupid non players. My TV pictures so
blurry. I just will rub dirt in my eyes only. I've been thinking
we had been using this TV for a long time. So I entered a
contest with the first prize is a plasma screen TV March. I love you,
I love you, I love you now. I really hope we won
that contest. There's a chance we won't win. And it was like that
though too, when one of your friends with the new TV with your place,
You're like, oh man, this shit I'm thinking about. You know,
maybe ten fifteen years ago, one of the like a big on Sunday
TV. It had a flat screen, but it still had the heavy machinery
at the back. Yep, it wasn't those Yeah, I know talking about
yep. Yeah, yeah, and when I've grabbed more like a flat screen
you kind one which was still fairly thick, you know, size of a
a pretty big sandwich. Yes, I know I've got one here in this
room, and the like fifteen years ago, it's still like it's it's the
met it's not thin, it's not thin thing. No. But I was
like, oh, I'm gonna I'll try and take and get this and get
a few bucks for this at cash. He's down at cash converters like quick
pull the lines down. It's like another one of these suckers. But I'm
not sure I've actually took it into cash. You But I said, I've
got this type of TV. I know that new TV's a popular bit.
Could I give it something? Nap? You just keep on walking, okay,
So yeah, a really nice Sony television. I probably ended up just
I think I gave it one of my sisters in the end. But but
I was driving down of the street not long ago, and you know there's
hard rubbish place. You know, people will put their hard rubbish out on
the streets, like yeah, fredal good Home or whatever, you know,
and I saw him one of the relatively flat screen TV's. It's like,
oh man, you can't even sell this on Facebook, Marketplace or whatever.
Just like take it, take it? Did you take it? Oh?
No, no, no, I've got like I've got my good TV that
I use. I've got the TV that I had before that. And that's
in the spirings. I'm like, I really like this and I get the
feeling it'll be useful some day. Some way. It won't be, but
yeah, it won't be. It's just gathering dust. There are two TVs
in the back room. One of them is lou was cleaning out and it's
like, oh, it's a TV, Like, yeah, I'm throwing this
out. I'm like that might be able to use that as like a computer
monitu. So you took it and it doesn't work, and I still even
thrown at it. And then there was um occurring theme here. Yeah,
the fact of it is I'm a hoarder or build a ship that doesn't That
doesn't work. But that background especially, that's that's disgraceful. And also Mum's
old one, and Mum was we thought we were doing Muma Soul, you
know, for a birthday. I was like, Mum, smart TV,
you can watch everything. On the one screen. Don't like it, Mum
does not like. The old one was beverly good. I knew how it
worked. This one, I don't know how it worked. They take so
long to figure out how they work. When you give him something new,
it just scares them. Yes, yeah, I worked that with my name
Marlene Godblots. She's gone now, but we got her like the foxtol.
She's like, I don't want fox stole. I just don't want Fox styles
too. I'm like, just let me give you the box. You have
to pay anything, We're gonna pay for you that Fox style, then you
can. Because she was too old to the point she couldn't come to the
games anymore, I was like, you can watch every AFL football game live,
no ads, you can watch them all from home. She was like,
ah, So what happened was one day she had to go to the
doctors. So I went there and installed it all. Get the foxtyle,
got to put the dish on. I installed it all. She got home
and I showed it to her. She was like, it's pretty good.
Gaes like so many times then would call me up and she'd be like,
Brandon that the foxtail won't turn on. You pushed the power button? Yes,
wait, which one's that one? The one at the top. Nothing's
happening. Okay, So if you push the button on the remote, is
the TV remote have changed to this thing? What lights are on the box?
Blue one and a red one. I'm like, okay, so it's
on. I'm all right, So whens if you push the menu button nothing,
I'm like, well, you're not on the foxtail button. What do
you mean I'm not on the foxtail channel. I'm like, put that,
put the sauce. She goes, what what button? I was like,
oh my god, it's tough. That's really tough. Just watched I'm like,
nan, going forward. I had a rule watch channel nine through No.
Seven, nine through foxtail. That way you don't have to flick sauces.
Well we had to do. We did that as well with this new
smart TV that we got for mum. But Mum's foxtail connection was so old
that um connectors. Ah yeah yeah, And like we were pulling wardrobes out
and we're looking to go, this doesn't plug into here. I don't know
what we're gonna do. Yeah yeah, yeah, that two the two plugs.
He can get free to because we were like, Mum, we're gonna
set it up so you know you can watch regular TV through the foxtown and
then but also Netflix and all this kind of stuff. Yeah, we didn't
work, and it is so fucking smart. We just ruined this poor woman's
life. All she wanted to do was what Sky new, and then she
fell over and then she fell on. I think you did it just a
spiders. We soon, Margaret Mary. No, she's good, she's well.
I don't know whether we talked about in this podcast at last one,
but yes, hopefully your mother's feeling better after that recent tumble. Yes,
mum took a tumble land on the coffee table, but she's got a few
bruises on the side, but no crack ribs, nothing like that. And
apparently her blood work is that of a twenty five year old person. Margaret
Mary still going strong, good on better than I. Yeah, still can't
work the TV. Good thing about shit episodes is that we can just wander
off and just talk about other stuff. I go back, Tom, this
is your wife already into for the shit episode. Stee for the banter,
stay for the chats. Where were we even up to he doesn't want he
wants the plasma TV yet, Yes, marchess, she's entered them into a
contest where first prize is an HDTV and he starts showing her affection and she
gets turned on by this. He's just like, ooh, I love you.
Then three weeks later, um, what the fuck was this? Oh
my after forty years, my collections complete or whatever of family circus, family
Circus cartoons, so what he's been cutting them out for goodness knows how long?
And this like this sucks and throws it away. It's like, what
the hell happened there? That is the definition of filla. This is the
thing. He glues it even right, He glues into the page and then
it shows the page. It on the page and it's been sticky taped.
Oh I didn't see that. So he clues it past it in and then
when they show you what he just did, it has tape on each four
corner. Oh no, I just how does how does that get into an
episode? Like, I just don't understand. That's a that's a mess.
I just don't get it. But he gets a phone call from the competition.
They said, oh no, no one wins first prize. You've won
third prize or tour of the Fox Network and there will be no expenses paid.
So then now arriving at Fox Studios, Botox is five dollars, says
on the side of the wall number two and Prisoners for eighteen, Prisoners eighteen
to forty nine. And this is where they make the best damned sports show
period, the worst show period. I think it's Jody's World with David Spade.
They love shitting on David's but I think everyone just love shitting on David's
Spade, right, Yeah, which is he a nice great look. I've
never seen anything where he comes across like a jerk. I don't know,
No, I don't think that's the case. I mean, I think he's
got that persona. I mean, apparently Eddie Murphy hated him because, okay,
he made this gone weekend update on SNL where he was He pointed they
had put up a bit of Eddie Murphy when Eddie Murphy's movies were tanking Little
Kids a Falling Star, and Eddie Mophies like fucked his game. This guy
for Live Yeah, but yeah, I mean he was kind of like Chris
Farley's Rob Schneider wasn't he he was? Yeah, yeah, I mean he
tried to have it. He had a couple of movies where he was the
start. There was Joe Dirt, which I never watched, Yeah, and
Joe Dit Too, which I also never watched. I remember Joe Dirt one
being quite popular when it came out. Yeah, well, clearly and made
a sequel. And he made one called Diggy Roberts Former Child Star, which
I think was not that great. A romantic comedy called Lost and Found.
Um. Also, I don't think i've ever seen that peak is him in
um just shoot me? He was very good in that. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, I mean suited to his talents, absolutely apparently a real ladies
man, like he dated like some incredibly hot women. Okay, and then
I mean you look at David Spain's like, okay again, come tall as
tall as a duck, but hung like a donkey. Maybe. Oh wait,
look there's damn cast Lanetta from the Tracy Elman shoel Hey, funny man,
something funny. Please don't lean out of the tram, sir, you
might get hurt. A bit interaction here with him, Homer and Dan Castle
Netta, which I'm assuming Dad would have got a kick out of sort of
engage with himself. Yeah, but another jet that doesn't really go anywhere.
It was good hearing someone else say it so now, and then I just
kept repeating, and I thought I nearly said it wrong again. I was
like castel Netta, Castelletta, Cattelletta. We will never get it wrong again,
I promise, kind of like garage and garage not a guarantee, not
a guarantee. They go through the various reality shows which ibrow raising in twenty
twenty three. One was Midgets Versus Dwarves or Michet or Dwarf Midget America decide,
Yeah, it's like, no, I don't know about that, but
it's funny given the you know, we just spent like ten minutes talking about
fun and they've got a million dollars fart off. Yeah, we'd watch that,
we'd watch we would and maybe a pair. Yes. Then they see
the Mother's Mother Flippers cast and call says there's already one of those on another
network and gives her an ABC sweatshirt, then locks her in the holding pen
for American Idol, which we're just discussing recently as well. There's sort of
two jabs at American Odol. Here is Ryan Seacrest and American Idol. But
Homer signs them up after hearing that the first prize is enough to buy an
HDTV and marshes, well, that's very interesting or could damage many many lives.
And they talk her and drew it as well, and we get her
trying to say I'll do it. And Julie Kavno did well with this.
She did, indeed, but a lot like I was trying to say garage
or garage. I didn't realize so many ways you could say I'll do it.
But she somehow found a way. She found it multiple variation. She
was the multiverse of madness with that ship. Yeah, let me come back
from commercial and the heath bars that is randomly at the Simpson's house. Now
they brought them all the way for all the way from the UK? Is
that how this show worked? I'm pretty sure the family didn't meet each other
until the end. Did they come from the UK or somewhere else in America?
From Connecticut or something? Oh? It was assumed. Okay, yeah,
because they say, what's the Nate state? Which one is that?
What is the Nutmes state? Let's look it up. That makes stain.
That makes smell about Connecticut. Yeah, the Nutmes state. Okay, that
makes more sense. Yeah, oh yeah, because she's at Yale, which
is in Connects of course. Yeah. I just I just assumed UK because
it's Ricky Gervase, Okay. And also another shot at Yale, yes of
course. Yeah, they even know most of them are from there, all
went to there. Yeah, yeah, so they're they're meeting the Simpsons family.
Verdi says that she was the youngest fool professor at Yale. As you
were just saying, Homer and Bart just moon everybody just yeah, go directly
into ugly American mode or just you know, thir a dipshit mode. Yeah,
there pixels in the world. Then he Hammet meets Charles, and Charles
Ricky just sort of does his usual stick and I bet the twist is that
he's gay, and Lisa pleads with Homer, you know, can you please
not do this is gonna be embarrassing TV. But Lisa TV TV SA,
Yeah, I didn't mind the diagram that he showed Charles. These are the
various places of Marge you cannot touch. And I'm like the especially the hair
line. But I'm like, I don't know about this. I'm always too
much like property. True, I'm always curious about like shows about like wife
Swap, though, I mean, I say this is a die hard view
of ninety day fiance. Of course, these things are all rigged up and
they're all set up. I mean they're not. There's some realism to it,
but it's like everything. There's no way like someone's having an affair with
the husband on those shows, like there's cameras epic where Yeah, I don't
know. The best part though, is that that kid I've think we've talked
about before in the podcast. Do you think she could walk in here a
little har he heels that little hillbilly. You've seen that one. I think
you've told me about it, and it is one of the greatest moments in
the history of wife Swap. It's just so good. He's like, you
can't have bacon. He's like, ah, bacon, you can't tell me
I'm not having my bacon. He like runs away from home. It's it's
so fucking funny. I'll send you lift that one as well. But but
yeah, so he meets um Charles here Charles heath bar and he shows him
the diagram and then he says he's gonna bit of an elbow thing, which
I believe it was. Yeah, that is margest thing, isn't it that
she likes nibbling the elbows? We learned that in Secrets of a Successful Marriage.
Oh my gosh. Yeah, okay, Well, clearly a fan a
bit of a callback, yep, And that would make home a concern because
he knows much a little thing that she likes him nibbed on the elbow.
Then we get Verity sleeping in margin Hummer's bed. I was like, oh.
At first, I was like, wait, they' stopping at the same
bed. I was like, at least Homer's moving walking out. She done
this show because she wants to humiliate Charles, and she's not satisfied. But
then we later on that she's got a pool boy and another lover, so
she is satisfied, just not my Charles. She's like, it sort of
doesn't jibe that, you know, she's gone through all these cruel, dusty
years, when clearly she's you know, he's getting satisfied behind my various gents
and later a lady. You know, you don't seem like the money hungry
semi stripper who was usually unfucked. Why do you do it? Well?
I thought there was no further way I go to humiliate my husband, and
then this opportunity came along. I see, well I should be getting to
the living room. You know, I despise my husband. Well he didn't
get the price pig at the fair either. Charles hasn't satisfied me in years.
Yeah, that's how I feel about Notre Dame football cruel dusty years.
I don't know why I ever married dead woman? What does he say?
I know why I ever married that woman or something like that. I'm just
like, what is happening here? I didn't get that line. I mean,
is he sort of talking is is he meant to be saying like,
oh, I don't know why I married Verity? Homer is saying this when
but he's not really married to very yet. But he's like, it doesn't
Yeah, it just doesn't play all that well because he was saying that,
you know, you're not a catch either, and she's going on and on
and on, and I didn't know whether they were trying to say as you're
saying that he's now turning, he's now thinking like her. Now she's thinking
about margin the same way that she thinks about Charles. But I don't think
so. No, I think it's more like, how do I get married
to this one when he's not really married at this woman except just under the
guise of mother Flippers or whatever it's called. And then the rest of the
episode is just a Ricky Gervay's showcase, isn't it. It really is.
It's him just I mean, him just talking about how he manages his offers.
Like remember he's on that show of the offers, that that show that
you're liked, you know, all the stuff about Oh, no, choose
the but I do choose the committee. Oh we'll not really, no,
but it choose where they meet. Yeah, I mean his rhythms are so
specific that they only work in stuff that he kind of designs. Yeah,
the contrast translate to other things, the contrast between SIPs, his humor and
that it's just so start that it's just it doesn't blend well together, as
we're saying at the start here. But yeah, or just about anything,
because I mean, they, of course was popular, and they he headlined
a couple of movies in Hollywood. I mean, let's say, I don't
think that I don't think either did all that well. He did one called
ghost Town with Guy's major crush tay Leone, and oh yeah, she's fantastic.
Get on the Simpsons, and I remember thinking that this isn't bad,
but at the same time, this would be so much better with someone else
in it. Yep, you're not bad in it, but this movie with
a better without you win it. At the same time, there are certain
things that Ricky Debyz does that no one else can do, but they have
to be in his particular playground. And yeah, and The Simpsons is not
their playground. To the HUMANU waste what he does, particularly stuff on the
office, and that he doesn't get that love and gratification that he's looking for
right when Marge gets it to his straight away. It's like that goes against
what makes his stuff funny, you know, it's sort of like an ironic
Oh, he's actually getting the love that he's always wanted. But then yeah,
it does not even love, just acceptance just yeah, you know,
yeah, it's a good representation of Marge two. She just accepts the bare
minimum as enough. That's what we loved it about her as well. But
I don't know, but I mean, don't get me wrong. I think
managing your own office that's impressive. That's that's nothing to be not proud of,
you know. And I couldn't do it. No, I couldn't do
it either. So um so, like I mean, Nicolas, she manages
an office and I'm just like fucking she's getting goals, but I can barely
manage my own ship. So Charles, what do you do for eleven?
Well? I'm an office manager. And no, I didn't even get a
promotion today. Again, so go on, go ahead, disembound me with
your pointy, pointy words. Really you'll manage a whole office? Yes,
yes, yes I do. Actually, well that's very impressive. Does that
include the people and the furniture? Yeah? And I decide where the Christmas
part is held. Actually it's decided by committee. But you know I choose
the committee. Hello, I don't. I don't. I don't choose the
committee as such, but you know I choose where they meet this year,
I am thinking of conference room C. Who that leaves am B available for
overflow? Well done, Verity tells Bart no TV and too you do the
dishes and sounds sort of Helper and Maggie you're doing the dishes there, and
Bart brings up that Mum always says, why bother punishing me? I never
learned. I was like, that doesn't seem like a margin, it seems
like a home a line. Yeah. I can't imagine Marge of saying missus
line. Yeah, I can't imagine Marge ever saying that. Marge is always
persistent trying to make Bart a better child. Yeah, yeah, I mean
you said recently in a previous episode, there was a bit where they're talking
about, oh yeah, it's like when Bart was playing soccer or playing sports.
You know, we just thought he sucked or something, and then he
cut the Bart crying yeah, And I mean you were really sort of up
in arms with it. It's like that it's not something the Marge would do
that kind of sucks. Yeah. This, yeah, this feels like they
took six different jigsaws and threw them all into the one box and all the
pieces and just don't fit, not at all. No, So now the
family reading at their reports, she's making them do the reports on what they've
watched on TV, and she makes Homer do see us I Miami. And
this was just Dan just being able to just be dumb, Homer saying,
and I watched this, and then this happened, and then I woke up
and Letterman was talking to Alias. I mean, I always enjoy those,
but when he watched Wife Swap, it was very obvious they always had their
idea of who they wanted to be portrayed as the mean mum and that,
Oh man, I wish you and my mum, Like there's always there's always
a contrast like that. And obviously Verity here is the mean mum making them
do all these reports and everything. But then Charles's son Ben, he plays
the does he plays. He's really good at it. I can't remember.
I forgot. I just remember he was doing Chinese or something. Yes,
you know, he's a He's apt or some kind. And then this is
where Charles tells Marge the joke about murdering your wife. And I liked the
joke, but just margin interrupting it all the time, just killed the flow
of it, Like as a joke, I'm like, this works. It's
a good bad taste joke. Yeah, that kind of. Either it's a
roddy danger for it works because you recognize the bad taste or you if you
like it because you've got no soul and yeah, it's just mean tonguing sheet.
But Marge takes it literally. Of course that sound terrible, and I'm
like, well, shut up much. You're a born story. So I
was like, more like boring story. Adell. Hey, she wants to
hear another joke, so she goes off to make a cup of tea,
I believe, or it goes to do something first, and then he chose
to the camera says one more kind word, and I'm going to be completely
smitten, and she says, I think it waffles. The toaster takes bagels,
takes bagels. That's right, And then there it is. We come
back from commercial once again, and Verity is now burning all the home.
This is this was so randomly scene. He I smell something good, I'm
burning or your underwear. Oh, and that's it. That's that. That
is actually like the last we see I've varied in home together. Oh my
god, that's it. I just don't understand what's going on here. But
Marge, it is the thing. Why do you waste so much time at
Lenny's house with the TV when you could have had more Ricky Gervais and flashing
at that story, you know, yeah, yeah, silly. Maybe they
were like, well, oh like the Simpsons, I want to spend times
in the Simpsons universe, and you know, give give some time to my
favorite characters. Well, you know, play around with it in the sand
box with my favorite characters. Maybe. But Marge arrives home from shopping and
Charles is there in his kimono. He sent Ben with the housekeeper who's out
having a drink and she's depressed, and then he plays Margie's song. Did
I tell you I'm a bit of a songwriter words and music? Hold the
applause. I wrote this song for a woman was not interested in me to
do yes, not interested. Let me just breathe your scent for a moment
before I play. Lady, when you came to me, I was feeling
blue, blue, just like your hair. You see blue, just like
the moon, but only when the moon is blue and not when it is
creaming. And now that you are here with me, I am in a
dream. Oh yeah, much, Your dreams can't come true, lady.
When you go away, I feel like I could die, not like die
like your hair is died, but die like lady die, and not like
die like her name is die but die like when she died. Oh but
lady just like Lady die, but my princess to night, but don't die,
don't die. I don't think even in twenty two thousand and six people
were ready to make jokes because to stop being dead or not. I think
in twenty twenty three people still like it's just one of those things. It's
one of those deaths that you just never touch from a comedian perspectively, not.
I just don't think anyone's like it'll always be too soon. I think
with Lady Dies again, I think it's it's very much a David Brent from
the Office thing who viewed himselves as, you know, like a frustrated musician
who was always breaking out the guitar with chance he got, except his songs
were always shite. And yeah again this is just a David Brent bit done
by Charles what's his name, heath Bar heath Bar. Yeah, yeah,
so that's all it is. It's just it's Ricky Gervais's greatest hits whatever,
but just didn't work for me. I mean, the song is fine,
but he confesses his love ear to Marge and she says, no, I
can't you know it's not gonna work. You know, I've got Homeer and
he'll do anything for my love, but it never kills him. And I'm
just like, I swear the whole purpose of your marriage these days is the
point of how bad home Rus his husband. But anyway, yeah, you
keep saying how good he is, despite yeah, us seeing how bad he
is. Haven't he left him three seasons at three episodes already this season seems
that way. Yeah, yeah, you're you're You're constantly throwing him out of
the house, So what are you going on about here? But then Lisa
randomly arrives because Fox flew her there on the Frito Lays air force. Yum,
did Freto sponsored this episode or something like why what? Why they sent
Lisa to come get you? Why? Why? I don't know. I
think it's just Ricky probably saying, oh something about Fox's vulgar commercialism and all
that kind of stuff. Okay, I guess he says he's going to tag
along as well so he can tell his wife he's gonna leave her. And
I'm like, you couldn't just wait to go back? Maybe who knows?
And then Charles does a Trump impression which fell flat again. Yeah, because
he had to tell us it was drump because I didn't know it. Yeah,
under that is the joke that was that's meant to be that he thought
it was good when it wasn't good. But I don't know this. Yeah,
this episode is not not very good. I'm struggling to find anything positive
in it. Really, I'm sorry. Yeah, the end, and then
Homers by himself. He's his time to let Homer be Homer. So he
rips off his pants and he's got pizza struck to his leg for whatever reason,
and she Marge arrives home and again the first thing Homer says is,
Oh, she made me spend time with the kids. Can you decide whether
he wanted to be a good guy, a good father, or a bad
father? Like you just told this guy that you know he'll do anything for
her marriage might love and he loves his family, and then you get home
with the first thing he says is, she's horrible because she made me spend
time with the kids. Right, okay, because he is not married with
Children's it's weird. It's a weird thing. It's it's it's it's the inconsistency
with the Homer character that seems more puzzling. Nounced that some episodes when it
needs when's required for the story. Homer is a good dad and a good
husband, but most of the time he's just so unlikable. It's it's weird.
But Charles says he's looking for Verity. He's going to tell him that
he's leaving her, and she's gone, she's getting hit the curb. And
then she is um. They're saying she's leaving him because she's now dating Patty.
And we get Homer making the joke about not voting for thirty eight so
that they can't adopt the child. You're making him even more unlikable. What
has happened? Yeah, Homer not liking Patty's one thing, but Homer making
it a bigot. Yeah, just I don't know. Then Homer is playing
the song, which you think is for Marge, but he's serenading the television
and says, oh, Marge, you're pretty great too, and she says,
yeah, sure whatever, closes her eyes and goes asleep, and and
we wish we could do the same. They're still a little bit more over.
The closing chrits just Ricky vamping on the guitar. Yeah, and just
riffing over the credits for no reason at all. Just yeah, this was
This was not a good episode. Not good. No, sir, I
did not like it. I'm interested in if there's huge Ricky Gervais fans out
there, let us know, sipsmail bag at gmail dot com. Did you
enjoy this episode because I don't know. I don't dislike him, but I
just felt like his brand mixed into the Simpsons universe just did not blend.
Well, that's exactly right. Yeah, I mean the Ricky Gervaise slash David
Brent, because that's what he's doing here. Yeah, that stuff is pretty
good as far as that stuff goes. But it's just such an awkward fit
in this episode, in this episode, in the Simpsons universe, it doesn't
work. It should never have happened, but it did, and we talked
about it. But now we're done talking about it. Dan though, And
the thing is, they even like they didn't just try and have the character
betray Ricky Jervais on the office. They even drew him to look like Ricky
Jervaise. Yeah, Like, if you're gonna do that just having be Ricky
Jervais, I don't know. What do we learn, Palmer? What'd you
learn in the episode? Mister Davis? But certain jokes from fifteen or so
years ago regarding little people don't really fly in twenty twenty three, and to
be honest, probably didn't really fly in two thousand and six. Yes,
they flew, but they shouldn't have. I learned that never send the kids
out with the housekeeper. What was that bit? I don't know was that?
What was that? I just and it's like about this episode, there's
seventy moments, but you could have said that, what was this bit that
you got? The letter? The comic at home is like the collection of
the comics that he's pasted in the book. What was that even about Kyle
dancing and then leaving the party because he's got work tomorrow? What's that about?
To quote Ricky Gervais in this episode, no logic not to know forward
your name droby? All right? So for the Guy Davis New Name Championship,
the current leaderboard stands at this in first position we have Luke McKay on
twelve points, Kyle m I'll done on nine points, and in third position
we have Adam Willhouse on eight points. Hit me, mister Davis, what
have we got? One point goes to Verity is the spice of wife.
Oh, that's a very good one. That one goes to Luke McKay with
the one point. This week, Luke's finally got some points. He's missed
out the last couple, but he's now on the big thirteen points. All
right, who's got two? Nice one? Um, Look, the timing
is off for this one because this episode happened far before the movie that this
title is sort of ripping on. But wives out, wives out, and
they're not bad. Indeed, that is Adam Adam Woolhouse once again with two
points or Adam's crow and that leader board. I think he's in second position
now wool House, yes, all right and the three points three points four
high infidelity, Well played. Garrod harrow Hill, the King is backroid Gorod
is back. Yes, so Gorod with the three points there that puts Garrode
in equal third position with clever Kyle on nine points. Adam Moorehouse outright second
on ten points and in first position with three points clear of second. Is
Luke McKay's done it again. Nice work, folks, Nice working. Indeed,
if you want to be part of the Guy Davis New End Championship.
You've just got to be a four figured discount page and be part of the
exclusive Facebook group. All right with Davis, it's our time for some mail
back question mail bank debail Here. First question here comes from Mark Boston purchase.
What is your favorite Gervais moment slash program slash We're pretty much sure had
to cover that we have. Yeah, I mean, like I said,
I really dug him on that Alias episode. I thought it was very good.
There's a lot I like in the Office. I didn't appreciate the efforts
to sort of string it out a bit. He made a movie called David
Brent Life on the Road many years after The Office finished. It was like
trying a bit too hard. Although he will occasionally surprise you. I mean,
he did the show called Derek in which he played a mentally challenged fella
essentially, which is like you almost want to say, you know, you
want to be Robert Dandy Junior in Tropic Funder and don't go for our word,
but he does. But at the same time, I watched an episode
or two of it and almost found myself in tears to the end because like
a lot of the message was really sweet and and very heartfelt, and I
think he he's good in in that way. But sometimes he's delivery vehicle is
a little bit wobbly, shall we say, But oh, he's got some
good stuff to him. Andrew JP says, what's your favorite type of Cimpsons
celebrity cameo? Meta and sulf For West celebrities playing fictional versions of themselves or
immersing themselves into original characters, I prefer guest stars where you pretty much can't
tell it's them and you've just so absorbed in this new create our character that
the bandaged to create. Look, that's a really good point. I think
it also just depends on the person doing it. I mean one of my
favorites is Edward Norton, just purely for that line when he comes to the
court and you know, talk about I'm a triple threat. I think I
just love that as you as you can doubt um or you know, William
Dafarre. I mean, these guys are character actors. They can just naturally
sort of sink into any role. But I really dug it when Mel Gibson
played Mel Gibson, I thought that was fantastic. When handle correctly. Yeah,
when the writing handle quickly. And of course one of my favorite all
time Sinceons it is just Ron Howard holding up the Saxon money at the end.
How would you if that it again? It's so great. I just
love that so much. I'm gonna say what comes to the episode with Alec
Bourbur and Michelle Base Kim Bassengassenger? Yeah or base and yeah, actually how
to pronounce her name? But that's a good one as well. Yeah,
but Baldwin plays Ballwin and that one right, but then Baldwin plays the ocean
ocean guy in a later you're right, yeah, yeah, so he saw
he does both. So I'm sorry who asked this question. This is JP
GP Andrew JP. My Baldi is for making myself very comfortable on the fence
here by sitting on it and saying I like it both ways. I could
like it both ways. Sounds like your chairs enjoying it too. It's very
noisy your chair today. I think it's someone to invest into. Sounds like
if I could sitting on the old KP seat from nineteen eighty seven. It's
like, please get off me. This really hurts me. I'm like,
what the fuck is that? Sound well that that was. That's because I
was wriggling my butt to emphasize a point. Yes, Andrew sit very still
from now. Andrew Swan says, guy might have mentioned it before. But
besides ninety Day Fiance, what other trashy reality shows does he have a guilty
pleasure in indulging? Well, let's see, there's ninety Day the other the
other way is ninety Day Fiance. Happily ever after question Mark, there's the
it's the ninety day universe. It's I don't need to watch anything else.
There are so many very ages intertwining any way, like people from various seasons
meet each other at any point or oh yeah, they've I think when it
started it used to be the case it's like we're going to follow you know,
this couple as they go through this you know, ninety day tribulation process
or whatever. And then some people on it became like such characters. There's
like we're going to follow them on their search for Okay, before the before
the shows dominated television, the big ones were always Big Brother, of course,
but do you remember obviously you know, survivors still going, but remember
our big survivor was that was so one was huge. That was a massive
But do you remember the one that I used to love them most? Um?
It was kind of like our version of The Amazing Race kind of,
but it was The Mole. Remember the Mowl? Yeah? Oh yeah yeah.
On the Mole, it was like there was one person on the show.
It's like that person's infiltrated everything like that, everything up for the inside.
There was a show that started at all called The House from Hell and
ed on Channel ten the other want to say, like ninety eight, and
it was a bunch of just basically just get a bunch of like young early
twenty somethings throwing in the house and just film it. And it was Shenanigans,
but it was it was before Big Brother was the thing, and it
was so cool at the time. Was it like an Australian version like mptv's
in the real world exactly what it was? The House from Hell? Ye?
Okay, God, I can't remember that one. But it's funny that
Andrew asked this question of name check ninety days because uh, years ago makes
one clearly there's a pattern for me here. But we were really in a
shrug called Temptation Island, remember that, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
where Yeah. You basically put a whole bunch of hot people on an
island and you know they're meant to me a couple. But wait a minute,
what has been tempted? Three women finding the guys love and then there's
a tray of cheeseburgers. Sorry, that is my heart belongs to Mayor McGee.
Now i'd be the little girl from the from the air, From the
air. Can't we have both? And then things get really sexy? No,
no, it's like, no, guy, you must choose one.
Fare well that is anyway, the way to this man is through a stomach,
like, we're not gonna gonna fuck this guy talking like John Lovets.
Anyway you can have the hello, let it. I wonder how well you
can go through life just talking like love. It's right, just just constantly
just talk like love. Its how long you could keep the stick up and
people just accept it, or if you can make more friends by being John
Lovetts like, thank you for greeting me. I hope you're having a great
day, can you do? I was looking online. I saw that you
sell fled and put the jama nikolo. Where's the Flybys car? Have you
got a size seven? Do you match prices? Target? Has it even
jib? We've us lost so many who subscribes. We to just do I
Love its podcast? Okay, we'll put a pole up on the Facebook or
somewhere like next episode is just asking love. It's the entire time. What
would you listen to the whole episode? Yeah, discount? Would you listen
to the whole episode of Danden guy talking to love its voice? Yeah,
this is what happens when you put out of shit episode Simpsons. We just
we lose it. We've lost it. You good question, Andrew, Thanks
Matt, Thank you. That's all. Thank you guys for listening to our
review of Home Simpson. This is your wife. If you got to this
park, it has been fun. The next episode of The Simpsons for season
