You gotta beat them, and that will be very difficult.

It used to be you would get maybe three or four hours of the Masters on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday would be a little more extended. But still you didn't have these other options. They didn't used to show you the front nine. People had no idea what the front nine look like. They're like, okay, we saw somebody tee off, but then that would be it. You wouldn't see and there's so many great holes on the front nine, the first nine, and we would just see, you know, the second nine, not the back nine.

Speaker 2: See, I would screw up if I you know, I'd say, man, this gallo patrons are I'd be I'd be in trouble. And having been down there for Sports Center, you got to learn the terminology. You're reminded now it's not a sheet of paper, but Mike coordinating producer Mike McQuaid at Sports Center, Big Golfer, and he had to give me this refresher every time that we would go there because he said, you got to make sure you say the right things. So when Van Pelt joins this, if I say, hey, how are the galleries, He's going to go patrons first nine, second nine. You know, just little things there. But it's fun, you know, I feel like this is the first real day of spring, just because you know, you get to see Augusta and it'll be in full bloom. There's no rain, the winds will die down. I'm curious if anybody gets to double digits, you know, by the end of the tournament.

Speaker 2: You know, Rory doesn't have to worry about this career Grand Slam. Scheffler just you know, had a newborn baby. The par three was wonderful yesterday because it's just about family. And I've known Van Pelt for a long time. That's as good a mood as I've ever heard him. He was giddy. He just thought it was wonderful. You know, you got little kids rolling down the hill. They're playing in the sand like it's a sandbox, and it was. It was just fun to see that because you don't see that side of these these athletes, but to be able to watch that, it's beautiful. The par three wasn't created when I played there, but that would be I would love to play one day on AUGUSTA.

I was caddying for Peter Jacobson and he handed me a wedge. He goes, go ahead. I go, Now there's crowd around watching this, and I go, I'm not it.

Speaker 2: You guys on TV always talk about how easy this is. You know, I misspoke. I caddied in the par three. So I'm there with Payne Stewart and Pain has given me a lot of grief, as he would always do. That's the kind of person Pain was. He loved to needle you and he's like, oh, come on, so I didn't I didn't hit a t shot on nine, and I regret that. We got to the green and I had Peter Jacobson had like a fifty foot crazy breaking putt and then Payne Stewart goes.

Speaker 3: Go ahead, why don't you putt it? I go, I don't know where I'm hitting. Then he goes, all right, I'll read the putt.

Speaker 2: So I'm there with a you know, Peter Jacobson's putter, and I'm got to go up over this. It looked like an elephant had been buried in the green and I got to go up over this you know hump and then it, you know, rifles down to the hole and it's one of those whey. I just thought, if I get it to the top of the hill and let it trickle down, I'm okay. I just didn't want to hit it up and have you know, be sisyphus and have you know the rock come down on me. But it was one of those great moments where you get to see these guys with their personalities, just having fun. Because the stress starts today. But Scott van Pelt will join us coming up. They call it the first and second nine. That I didn't know. That's not as obvious, you said, Patron. It's a spectator a fan. Also, they don't use the rough second cut. There's a lot of terminality.

Speaker 2: I wish they had more rough down there, because he used to be these guys would blast it. Now there are a couple of players, and this is something that Augustus said yesterday. They may look at trying to limit how far you can hit the golf ball. And I wondered about this for over ten years. Augusta can do whatever it wants. Augusta can say we you must comply with what we want out of a golf ball. And so if your titleist or you know, Taylor made or whatever it is, you must comply with what you know their standards are. Because there is an amateur who can hit it three hundred and twenty five yards carry Carrie, So he's going to hit it three hundred and forty and look, Rory does that Deshambeau. But here's you know, forget what his name is, but he told the head of Augusta that he carried the first bunker on the first hole, which is a three hundred and twenty five yard carry.

Speaker 2: But you know, they tiger proofed it, and everybody was like, oh, I can't believe they're tigerproofing it. They Jack Nicholas the Golden Bear proofed it a long, long, long time ago. They've tried to keep up with the times. They can't add too many yards. They can only they've extended some of these holes, like eleven, they moved back ten. They can't do anything about. You know, there's a few of them where they they've moved it back as far as they can go. And they want to make sure that the course is able to hold up. But Augusta can do that if they say, if you're playing here, you've got to play with a golf ball that meets our standards. And technology has surpassed a lot. You know, it's made you know, some of these golf courses obsolete. And you know that would make me nervous that you have these courses who that have withstood you know, a century, and I would hope that they would continue to do that. But the Masters did talk about that yesterday.

Speaker 5: Yeah, pone, Gary Player, the legendary golfer, was out there yesterday and this morning. By the way, he's ninety and he's way more flexible than any of us in this room. Very frustrating. He talked about how the long ball really hurts par fives and takes away the challenge of getting a birdie on a par five. Birdie is expected now on par fives, Well, you're gonna.

Speaker 2: Get guys who hit the ball so far and then they'll hit a driver and then they'll hit an eight hunern into a par three. It shouldn't be that way, But I'm going to give these guys credit for figuring out how to launch the ball use the ground, and I mean this is scientific of what they've done, and then you add the golf ball there, and then you add clubhead speed, and then you had the driver. Now your results may vary because my golf ball is not going to if I hit it two sixty. I'm like, yeah, I mean these these guys. And the joke is, you know when I played out at the Tahoe Tournament and I remember hitting a drive and I thought, man, that's pretty good. And I'm playing with Drew Brees and he said something about, hey, who put a hotel here?

Speaker 4: About that Paul is just talking about with the your par five is you're driving too far. And now so it took away the challenge. Sounds a lot like an old pitcher in baseball being like everybody throws one hundred now and it doesn't know it was with everybody. Yeah, like people have just refined the game more and the you know, I understand the clubs are different, I understand the balls different, but you know, the mechanics and the technique of it are so refined.

Speaker 2: At this point, Well, they enhance the ball bats are better, tennis, the rackets are better. You know, this is just technology. But the Masters is saying, and you know, I'll talk to Van Pelt more about it. He'll have more information. But this is about we don't want these great par fives to be sort of overwhelmed. I mean they have a par three that's I think it's on the front nine. It's like two hundred and forty two yards and it's uphill and I hit driver on a par three. I mean you're not supposed to do that, but that's what the whole is. But then there you can get home. And maybe I birdied thirteen and birdied fifteen, but on different days. But still I didn't get there in two. I got there in three, which is what you know they would love to have. But you know, it's modern technology. These guys are, you know, they're all mostly jacked. They're in great shape.

Speaker 7: Sports fan or casual golf band, are they willing to do that kind of work?

Speaker 2: Idea casual No. But if you love golf and you want it on background and you get to see the you know, the first nine, I mean, you didn't get this opportunity, you know, five years ago, ten years ago. And I think that that's a benefit if you love golf, and this is a standalone tournament because it goes back to the same venue, the only one that goes back to the same course year in and year out. And you know, I look forward to it. But the one thing Paully was saying, man, it just doesn't seem like it's that difficult when you look at that course. And I said, well, TV is very very misleading, because if you walk the course, it's very hilly. There's no other course on tour that comes close to the elevation of Augusta. You never have a lie that is flat. It's always a little bit to the you know, leaning this way or that way. Now there's no wind, the weather's going to be great, but that might dry out things, and then all of a sudden things and and the greens, you know, when okay once again, I played those back in the nineties and I was so concerned of how fast these greens were going to be. Now when I was playing them, they're different than how they're going to play this weekend. But it can intimidate you because there's no flat pots either. Now it's you're like, I got to hit it over here, I got to hit it up here, it's down here, it's side you know, all kinds of crazy things. So it's very, very subtle. But that's why experience is so important here because you can try to over you know, try to dominate it, overwhelm the course, you know, by hitting it as far as you can hit it. But there's still places where it's just you you got to put it here, and if you don't, you're in trouble. And that t shot on eighteen, and I played it all the way back because I wanted to know what that felt like. And I swear it felt like the trees were growing in making it tighter on the tea box. So when you're hitting your t shot, you can't help but see the overhanging trees and go, man, I don't know if I can get this through this. And then you do, and you're like you already felt like you know you won something. But even on sixteen it's a par three, and you know we played there's no bleachers there, there's nothing there, and you go, this isn't that difficult, and it wasn't. But then if you Sunday where it's packed and you know a tournament's on the line and you're Greg Norman and you put it in the water, like you can't even fathom that he did that. When you stand on that tea and you're hitting the same t shot they're hitting, and you know if you hit it up high, it rolls down and you know you can get a birdie. And I remember standing on that tee and I go, how did Greg put it in the water? But that's pressure, and there's you don't know how to gauge that you don't know how these guys process that, because hey, Thursday at eight o'clock, t and off.

Speaker 2: Now all of a sudden it's Sunday, you know, at five point thirty two in the afternoon and they're standing over a putt.

Speaker 5: Yes, Polly, I have holds four, five and six up and like you said, it's all rolling. But for a person who doesn't play golf, especially at this level, it looks manageable. But then when I look at a British Open course, one of the UK courses, with those pot bunkers and the rough that's four feet high, it looks drastically harder.

Speaker 2: I mean it's very difficult. But you know, Tiger famously stayed out of all bunkers for an entire four days at the British Open, which is impossible. I mean, it's just mind boggling because there you'll see when you're playing the British Open, You'll be on the tea and you'll go, where am I hitting it? Now, these guys know where they're hitting. But I'm asking my caddie, I go where am I hitting it? He goes right, there. You know, he's like, don't you see where he's supposed to hit it? And then you've got all this growth, pot bunkers, greens, fair way you don't even know if it is the fair way. I mean, it's just those are the fun things. Now, Steady diet of British Open or steady diet of Augusta. I'll take Augusta. But you know, if you're a golfer being able to experience British Open golf golf in Europe, it's wonderful. Then the people are wonderful as well.

Also, Dan, you and a lot of journalists are right. The Houston Texans are going with the fifth year option when it comes to CJ. Stroud and going with a wait and see approach instead of extending him long term at probably sixty million a year, which Stroud was hoping for. I know Rich and Chicago may still feel that this is a mistake, but the majority of people feel this is a smart and prudent move by the Texans. A question I always wanted to ask Seatan See. I'm guessing for you, life's just killing time between games, and life's just killing time between songs. Sports and music two of your biggest passions. If you had to go your entire life with one of them never existing, which one would it be?

But you know, this is about value, how you assess value.

You can't watch a game with Wemby and not see him do something. Even Joker, certainly on the offensive end, but when you're leading the league in rebounds and assists, if he wanted to, he could lead the league in scoring. Imagine that triple crown. He's not taken anywhere near the shots that he's taken before. I think he took like eight shots last night or nine shots, made seven now double figures, ended up with a triple double. He could lead the league. Is there any other player in the game who could lead the league in points, rebounds, in assists And the answer is maybe Russell Westbrook, maybe Russ.

I think Sga, Jannis, and the Joker all are going to get a little slighted by history because they didn't come in as stars. All three of them were slow burns. None of them made an All Star Game in their first three NBA seasons. They were acquired tastes, you know. Hakeem Elijuan came in famous, David Robinson came in famous. So On Shack was a world famous when he came in, and I think that gives him an uphill battle for relevancy in comparison to those guys. It's a different era, of course.

Speaker 2: Well, okay, I can look at it two different ways because Shack had to then live up to all of this attention. Akeem had to live up to all this attention, David Robinson, all this attention. Whereas Kawhi came in quietly, Joker came in quietly, Jannis came in quietly. Wemby didn't come in quietly. There was, you know, a big curiosity with him. But nobody knew anything about Joker. Nobody, I mean even Luca. I mean I saw video of him playing in a European League game, but I didn't know. There was a curiosity, and I kept going, He's not gonna get that shot off in the NBA. He not fast enough to get but you know, once again, he knows how to play angles.
