<v Speaker 1>He'll gon't me bit, it's the Internet. You're busy. Let's <v Speaker 1>do this for August nineteenth, twenty twenty four. For the <v Speaker 1>next hour or so, let me help you sort through <v Speaker 1>the world of gaming on Game This Morning's Live with <v Speaker 1>Me Jeff Grubb. Today's Silent Hill To remake may turn <v Speaker 1>out better than a lot of people expected. Nintendo has <v Speaker 1>a direct but not about video games and Blackmith will <v Speaker 1>cong developers say, don't say feminism. That's a rule for influencers. <v Speaker 1>But first please join me and welcoming today's co host <v Speaker 1>to Game Best Mornings. It's Emma Fife. Everybody, Emma, how <v Speaker 1>are you doing? <v Speaker 2>I you know, I'm great right now. I feel very awake. <v Speaker 3>I woke up at approximately three in the morning read <v Speaker 3>ready to start my day. No, it was really funny <v Speaker 3>because when we were coming back from Japan, our flight <v Speaker 3>got delayed because I don't know if people know this, <v Speaker 3>but there was a typhoon in the Pacific Ocean very <v Speaker 3>close to Japan on Friday after. <v Speaker 2>It was crazy. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, so there was like some nice sideways, rain and <v Speaker 3>wind and planes love that. <v Speaker 2>Planes they just simply adore that. <v Speaker 3>No. Fortunately, I actually our flight was not canceled. Tiffany <v Speaker 3>c who is also on our video team, was over <v Speaker 3>there with me, and her flight was originally on Friday, <v Speaker 3>so that got straight up canceled, and originally she wasn't <v Speaker 3>going to be able to get back until something like <v Speaker 3>Sunday night, but then fortunately she was able to find <v Speaker 3>a flight out on Saturday also, So our flight was <v Speaker 3>originally leaving at like four in the afternoon, and then <v Speaker 3>it was six in the evening, and then it was <v Speaker 3>eleven thirty at night, So I mean, fortunately we knew <v Speaker 3>that early and we didn't go to the airport, so <v Speaker 3>we had this big day in Japan on Saturday. So <v Speaker 3>pass out on the plane, get home, immediately, pass out again, <v Speaker 3>wake up, it's like ten thirty in the morning. <v Speaker 2>The next day, We're like, we are, We're doing great, <v Speaker 2>Like this is going really well. We're getting on a <v Speaker 2>great schedule. <v Speaker 3>And then I just both of us woke up in <v Speaker 3>the middle of the night last night and it was here, we. <v Speaker 2>Are, here we are. But you know, as of right now, <v Speaker 2>I'm doing great. <v Speaker 4>I am I'm glad to hear that. I'm glad you <v Speaker 4>got home. <v Speaker 1>When when those delays are happening and you're like preparing <v Speaker 1>to travel. You you were able to like shift gears <v Speaker 1>into well now we elextra time. <v Speaker 4>I mean, I don't know if I'd be able to <v Speaker 4>do that. <v Speaker 2>You know, it was kind of difficult. <v Speaker 3>So basically we Gabe had wanted to go to book Off, <v Speaker 3>which we hadn't done yet. <v Speaker 2>So we went to the. <v Speaker 3>Book off in Akihabrara and then we went and got <v Speaker 3>fluffy pancakes and after that, but the place that we <v Speaker 3>got fluffy pancakes and was this like giant electronics. <v Speaker 2>Et cetera store. <v Speaker 3>So I ended up like after we had breakfast and <v Speaker 3>we did a little like walk around the store, I was, <v Speaker 3>I like started to have a suger crash. And then <v Speaker 3>fortunately Gabe would like tell that I was having a <v Speaker 3>rough time, and so he found was a cat cafe. <v Speaker 1>Oh wow, okay, so the perfect end to a t <v Speaker 1>that's amazing. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, and then we went back to this great Ramen <v Speaker 3>place and uh yeah, so you know, it all ended <v Speaker 3>up being fine, but I was, I know, light is, <v Speaker 3>my cat. <v Speaker 1>Is very happy, very jealous of that. <v Speaker 3>He's very happy that I'm home and he's jealous of <v Speaker 3>all the other cats. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, that's. <v Speaker 3>Uh wow, am I you should like marry that dude, <v Speaker 3>says Hamon of Texas. I'm going to work on it, <v Speaker 3>working on it. Yeah, very soon I am marrying that dude. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, so's it was. <v Speaker 3>I would say yes, overall we were able to shift gears, <v Speaker 3>but it definitely then became a thing of like, oh, <v Speaker 3>I'm finding more cool stuff. <v Speaker 2>Do I really want to find a place to pack this? <v Speaker 4>I'm sure. <v Speaker 2>All I bought for myself at. <v Speaker 3>Book Off was a Final Fantasy Tactics PSP edition ultimately, <v Speaker 3>which I was very happy to find. And it costs <v Speaker 3>me and it cost me like I don't know, seven dollars. <v Speaker 1>So it was great. <v Speaker 4>You'd be losing money not buying that, of. <v Speaker 3>Course, exactly, exactly, No, it was really funny every time <v Speaker 3>in Japan we found something that was like less than <v Speaker 3>a thousand yen, My Tiffany would be like, so it's free. <v Speaker 3>We're bad influences. <v Speaker 4>On each other, Japan girl. Math, that's the way to do. <v Speaker 3>It right there. <v Speaker 2>Exactly. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I've been look at everybody travel doing their travel with <v Speaker 1>some jealousy Japan especially. Everyone's been going to Japan recently. <v Speaker 1>I'm like, I need I need to get out there. <v Speaker 3>Rules yeah, you should. I think your kids would have <v Speaker 3>a really fun time too. <v Speaker 1>We didn't. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, we did so many activities that I'm like, oh, <v Speaker 3>this would be great for kids. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, the cat Cafe didn't have an age limits. <v Speaker 1>A lot of the ones here do like you have <v Speaker 1>to be like so old before you go in. <v Speaker 2>The cat Yeah, no, I don't know, No, definitely not. <v Speaker 3>The thing about Japan is they have no animal cruelty laws. <v Speaker 2>Basically, Oh, there's pros. <v Speaker 1>And to that. I mean, you can do what you <v Speaker 1>want to the whales and they do. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>Oh god, all right, let's you know what, Let's go <v Speaker 1>ahead and explain what we do here most weekdays, I <v Speaker 1>Jeff Greb will help piece your gaming life back together. <v Speaker 4>That includes breaking. <v Speaker 1>News and maybe even some of our own original reporting. <v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a <v Speaker 1>bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If <v Speaker 1>you were watching live on Twitch welcome. You can always <v Speaker 1>listen to the show leader on podcast seeds by searching <v Speaker 1>for Game mess Mornings, or find therss on giant bomb <v Speaker 1>dot com. You can also catch the show later with <v Speaker 1>chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube, all right, plenty <v Speaker 1>to get into. So let's start the morning mess with. <v Speaker 1>The Silent Hill to remake is significantly better than the <v Speaker 1>trailers you've seen. This is I'm gonna summarize this. From <v Speaker 1>Jessica Codro at GameSpot, The upcoming Silent Hill to remake <v Speaker 1>has been met with both excitement and skepticism. The original game, <v Speaker 1>at least twenty three years ago, is a beloved classic <v Speaker 1>in the horror genre. Man years ago, known for its <v Speaker 1>psychological yeah that's wild, now known for its psychological depth <v Speaker 1>and atmospheric storytelling. However, there have been concerns about whether <v Speaker 1>Konami and Bluebird Team, the developers of the remake, truly <v Speaker 1>understand what makes Silent Hill two so special to so <v Speaker 1>many people. After playing about three hours of the remake, however, <v Speaker 1>Jessica said she was very impressed with the reverence shown <v Speaker 1>to the original game. The developers have retained many of <v Speaker 1>the iconic elements of Silent Hill two, such as the <v Speaker 1>slow burn of the opening hours, the surreal atmosphere, and <v Speaker 1>the grotesque creatures. They've also made some improvements, such as <v Speaker 1>adding a more fluid combat system and a helpful dodge button. <v Speaker 1>The game's visuals have been significantly updated. But they still <v Speaker 1>retain the grime, grotesqueerree and fog that made the original <v Speaker 1>game so mesmerizing, and locations have been expanded upon, and <v Speaker 1>there are many new details and objects that make the <v Speaker 1>world more grounded in reality. There's also, obviously the Akada <v Speaker 1>Yamoka has returned to work on the music and the audio, <v Speaker 1>and that is also improved. So just kind of across <v Speaker 1>the board here a little bit of a flipping of <v Speaker 1>the story on this one, Emma, where I think up <v Speaker 1>to this point, what we've had is a lot of <v Speaker 1>people seeing trailers and being like, huh. For one time, <v Speaker 1>I know, we don't trust Bluebird team. And on the <v Speaker 1>other hand, this doesn't look that good. I think people <v Speaker 1>were expecting Resident Evil remake levels and those trailers did <v Speaker 1>not were not sending that that was not the vibe <v Speaker 1>they were giving off in those trailers. <v Speaker 4>Now, with this new like. <v Speaker 1>A crop of previews and with new gameplay that people <v Speaker 1>are seeing online, kind of across the board, everyone's like, actually, <v Speaker 1>this looks pretty goddamn good. I might be on board <v Speaker 1>for this. How are you feeling. <v Speaker 3>I mean, it's interesting, because you know it, I understand <v Speaker 3>the impetus to want to compare it to Resident Evil, <v Speaker 3>but with Resident Evil it is still Capcom that's working <v Speaker 3>on it, and Konami is in just this weird void <v Speaker 3>of pachinko machines. Yeah thing, yeah, yeah, exactly. Oh my goodness, <v Speaker 3>I'm sorry. You can sort of see a rare appearance <v Speaker 3>of my other cat. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, he's right here. He's like on his little cat <v Speaker 2>tree if you can get myself. Yeah, there he is. <v Speaker 3>Anyway, back to what we were talking about, which is <v Speaker 3>Silent Hill. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. <v Speaker 3>I mean, look, I think people, this is what I <v Speaker 3>think this game has going for it is. I think <v Speaker 3>that there is a large contingent of people who are <v Speaker 3>rooting for it to do well. I remember when I <v Speaker 3>used to direct children's theater, I would always tell the kids, <v Speaker 3>nobody is showing up to this play hoping it's terrible. <v Speaker 2>Everyone is rooting for you. <v Speaker 3>And I think that there there are a lot of <v Speaker 3>people that are like those kids parents in the audience <v Speaker 3>that are rooting for Silent Hill too. <v Speaker 2>So you know, I am hopeful. <v Speaker 3>I actually over I was I overlapped a little bit <v Speaker 3>in Japan with all the people that were there for <v Speaker 3>the Silent Hill to remake. <v Speaker 2>We were in very different parts of the city. <v Speaker 3>Uh, because I was all the way out in Chiba <v Speaker 3>covering this one piece event, so I didn't get to <v Speaker 3>meet up with them, But I am very hopeful now <v Speaker 3>hearing what people's early impressions of it have been. I <v Speaker 3>think that a lot of the time trailers don't necessarily <v Speaker 3>do a game or even perhaps a film. <v Speaker 2>Justice. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, so I think I'm not sure what's going on <v Speaker 3>with the marketing team. Maybe the marketing team is the <v Speaker 3>ones who are struggling and not so much the devs, <v Speaker 3>because again it sounds like, you know, we're seeing good <v Speaker 3>stuff so far. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I get the sense also that you know, they <v Speaker 1>might have found their footing along the way. They definitely <v Speaker 1>have a game here that a lot of people are <v Speaker 1>going to be very honed in on all the details <v Speaker 1>and the specifics, and they're going to know exactly what <v Speaker 1>they want. <v Speaker 4>And when you're making. <v Speaker 1>Something, you can know all that that can all be <v Speaker 1>out there in the air and you could be trying <v Speaker 1>to grasp at it, but takes a long time to <v Speaker 1>get to that point, and they might be in a <v Speaker 1>situation where they have only recently gotten the game to <v Speaker 1>kind of feel the way people wanted to feel when <v Speaker 1>they show it off. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean, and that is ultimately the thing with <v Speaker 3>any of these remakes is that and it's It's something <v Speaker 3>that I said very extensively about Resident Evil for remake, <v Speaker 3>particularly last year, where it was like it gave me <v Speaker 3>the feeling that I had playing that game in college <v Speaker 3>for the first time, and so ultimately, like that is <v Speaker 3>what you are trying to emulate is the experience of <v Speaker 3>like your memory and not the actual experience of the game, <v Speaker 3>wherein it's not up to the quality of life improvements <v Speaker 3>that games have these days. Example, talking about having a <v Speaker 3>helpful dodge button and an improved combat system like Resident <v Speaker 3>Evil for you could not walk and reload your gun <v Speaker 3>at the same time and obviously now you can. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, yep, I h I'll be interested like that. <v Speaker 1>You know, there's the real true you know, diehard Silent <v Speaker 1>Health fans out there that I think are still going <v Speaker 1>to be skeptical about, skeptical about Schuber touching this game <v Speaker 1>in the first place. <v Speaker 4>I'll be interested to see how they feel about it. <v Speaker 1>But it seems like it generally this game now has <v Speaker 1>stands a pretty good chance of coming out and winning <v Speaker 1>over that a lot of that audience and probably finding <v Speaker 1>a lot of new fans for for Silent Hill going forward, <v Speaker 1>which is exactly what Konami's going for. Uh. For as <v Speaker 1>much as they uh sort of you know, shoved off <v Speaker 1>Triple A Gaming for a while there, they're back in <v Speaker 1>some ways. I mean, obviously we talked about they're not <v Speaker 1>Capcom in terms in terms of a lot of internal development, <v Speaker 1>but you know, they put together that Metal Gear Solid <v Speaker 1>collection that did very well for them, and that made <v Speaker 1>them made them so much money. They're like, we got <v Speaker 1>to do more of this, and that's what that's all <v Speaker 1>of what they're doing with Silent Hill is this remake <v Speaker 1>and there's a new one coming out. And they had <v Speaker 1>that weird TV show game that wasn't very good, trying <v Speaker 1>a whole bunch of stuff with it, and the idea <v Speaker 1>is some new real Silent Hill games Sound Hill f <v Speaker 1>I think it's the one they announced, uh now now <v Speaker 1>that it feels like that have a better chance than <v Speaker 1>ever because people might get on board with this one. <v Speaker 3>Say, there was a Silent Hill maze at Halloween Horror <v Speaker 3>Nights one year and it was awesome, So I would <v Speaker 3>like it to do well so that we can have <v Speaker 3>another Silence might. <v Speaker 1>Be a basic All right, let's move along here. Actually, <v Speaker 1>let's do let's do this one really quick. <v Speaker 4>They did get announced. <v Speaker 1>Wake up, Mike Minati, Mega Man is back, but oh no, <v Speaker 1>my god, look at the what's the what's the monkey <v Speaker 1>Paula doing over there? The fingers curling? He's back in Funko, <v Speaker 1>Fusion Pop or whatever. Boy, there is everybody Mega Man <v Speaker 1>finally getting his big return. Let's go. This is basically <v Speaker 1>Mega Man Legends three. I think this is what they <v Speaker 1>would Why even make that when you have this instead? Really, <v Speaker 1>this is a whole like I think it's an ig <v Speaker 1>and first reveal trailer over there if people want to see. <v Speaker 4>This for themselves. But I mean, I don't know. Mega <v Speaker 4>Man looks fine as a funk go. It's basically what <v Speaker 4>he looks like. <v Speaker 2>Spot Yeah, it's basically what Mega Man looks like. <v Speaker 1>Oh boy, sure. And then there's Fozzi Fozbear from five <v Speaker 1>Nights of Freddy's or whatever. His name is right there <v Speaker 1>next to Mega Man, just like the name Legends three <v Speaker 1>out of your dirty mo jefroub Hyamma. Sorry, Sean, you're right, <v Speaker 1>you're right, and you told me that before. I gotta <v Speaker 1>respect it. I don't know it's coming to Funk Coffusion. <v Speaker 1>Enjoy that, Mike. I hope you have fun. <v Speaker 4>All right. <v Speaker 1>Nintendo Direct has been announced, but it's not the one <v Speaker 1>you are hoping for. This is from Georgia at Game Spot. <v Speaker 1>Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Direct presentation for later <v Speaker 1>today at three pm Pacific time six pm Eastern. However, <v Speaker 1>it's not the usual kind of Nintendo Direct that you'd expect. <v Speaker 1>The showcase is actually a ten minute Nintendo Museum Direct <v Speaker 1>and will be a tour of the Nintendo Museum that's <v Speaker 1>slated to open this fall in Kyoto, Japan. To clear <v Speaker 1>up any confusion and dash any hopes, Nintendo has also <v Speaker 1>said there will be no game announcements or any mention <v Speaker 1>of the Switch accessor during the presentation. You know, Nintato <v Speaker 1>does this with their directs sometimes, right, There is the <v Speaker 1>occasional thing where it's like, this is going to be <v Speaker 1>about one of our other projects and this, Hey, God, <v Speaker 1>I want to go to a Nintendo Direct or a <v Speaker 1>Nintendo Museum really bad. If I were to go to Japan, <v Speaker 1>that would be one, and obviously Ghibli Museum, I would <v Speaker 1>do that in an instant. So I'm excited to see <v Speaker 1>what this looks like and get my my hut going <v Speaker 1>even more for who knows when I'll ever actually get <v Speaker 1>to check it out. But I don't know, you you <v Speaker 1>have any expectations for this. I mean, I know they <v Speaker 1>do really good museums in Japan, so I'm kind. <v Speaker 2>Of curious, really museums in Japan. Yeah, Japanese Museum's rule. <v Speaker 3>I mean, I so people were asking about the one <v Speaker 3>Piece event that I went to, So it was this <v Speaker 3>big fan event one Piece day, and a lot of <v Speaker 3>it truly felt like a museum of one piece merch <v Speaker 3>over the years. You know, it was figurines, Uniclose display <v Speaker 3>was really cool because they actually showed every single lab <v Speaker 3>that they have ever done with one piece over the years, <v Speaker 3>and they've done a lot of them. And it also <v Speaker 3>made me go, damn it, I wish I could still <v Speaker 3>buy that shirt. Had a lot of really good ones. <v Speaker 3>So you know, I think that, yeah, that there's there's <v Speaker 3>so much weird Nintendo shit out there that's been licensed <v Speaker 3>over the years that I really hope it ends up <v Speaker 3>in the museum. Like we were at Mandrake, which is <v Speaker 3>this big like toy store in Akihabra, and we found <v Speaker 3>a Super Mario Brothers like clock from the original Famicom <v Speaker 3>release of Super Mario Brothers. <v Speaker 2>And the thing that's really cool about Japan is they're <v Speaker 2>like not. <v Speaker 3>Super precious with a lot of their game merch and <v Speaker 3>used stuff, so it's surprisingly affordable. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, I just I think that there's been. <v Speaker 3>A lot of really cool Nintendo licensing endeavors throughout the years, <v Speaker 3>and so I really hope that we see a lot <v Speaker 3>of that in the museum. That's definitely something that you <v Speaker 3>know turns up in museums. But I also hope, you know, <v Speaker 3>one of the things Chapan does really well is digital art, <v Speaker 3>displays and collapse, and so I hope that there's opportunity <v Speaker 3>to incorporate some of that just to like give the <v Speaker 3>museum some visual interest and flow. It's kind of like, <v Speaker 3>you know, shout out to Mike Manatti at Disneyland. One <v Speaker 3>of the things that they've done that I've really enjoyed <v Speaker 3>is the way that they have updated their dark rides <v Speaker 3>in using just the smallest amount of digital art to <v Speaker 3>just kind of continue the flow of the ride, and <v Speaker 3>it really adds something nice and it doesn't take away <v Speaker 3>from the beautifully redone, you know, like repainted and updated animatronics. <v Speaker 3>So it's like, I think that there's a lot of <v Speaker 3>opportunity for there to be something really cool here, and <v Speaker 3>I want to go. So I just got back from <v Speaker 3>Japane there. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I hope that what what this turns out to <v Speaker 1>be is kind of what I've always hoped is like <v Speaker 1>Nintendo just is has a full time staff dedicated to <v Speaker 1>preserving all the best stuff that they have, like everything. <v Speaker 4>Uh. <v Speaker 1>Part of it is I worry because this is the <v Speaker 1>corporation doing a museum for themselves, and I personally think <v Speaker 1>usually it's a little bit better when it is an <v Speaker 1>external organization saying we are going to do the effort, <v Speaker 1>like we're going to fund this in some way, but <v Speaker 1>we're going to do this on our own independently. Like <v Speaker 1>a documentary, I think is almost always better when it's <v Speaker 1>done by an external team rather than you know, Michael <v Speaker 1>Jordan doing his own documentary about himself. It's better, right, <v Speaker 1>But you know, museums are big and permanent, and I <v Speaker 1>get the incentive here, and obviously they can do it well. <v Speaker 1>So I think the best the best way to do <v Speaker 1>woul be right they hire a team that is, and <v Speaker 1>it's like their independent and that's their job, right. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean, Nintendo loves Nintendo loves to control the <v Speaker 3>narrative around their own properties. So the fact that again, <v Speaker 3>as you say, it is Nintendo that is doing this, <v Speaker 3>that does make me concerned that we won't get to <v Speaker 3>see some of the coolest and most interesting stuff because <v Speaker 3>it doesn't fit the narrative that they want to present. <v Speaker 3>But that being said, you know, I'm still hopeful that <v Speaker 3>this could be something cool. Obviously, they're very controlling over <v Speaker 3>their properties in regards to how they're represented in the <v Speaker 3>Universal parks and hey, Super Mario World the ride is <v Speaker 3>pretty mid but the world itself is very cool, so <v Speaker 3>you know, and again they do some really interesting stuff <v Speaker 3>with digital pixel art, so you know, I'm I'm very curious, <v Speaker 3>shall we. <v Speaker 1>Say, Yeah, and not surprising that no games in here <v Speaker 1>switched to again they want to be able to have <v Speaker 1>the flexibility to do with the direct what they want. <v Speaker 1>They did have like a mention of a direct or <v Speaker 1>of a museum thing that they did with the Louver, <v Speaker 1>like forever Go in a direct things like that, so <v Speaker 1>it's like they've even had museums in the direct before, <v Speaker 1>so yeah, but I'm someone in chat. I think it <v Speaker 1>was Jamie H. <v Speaker 4>Christmas Eve who said. <v Speaker 1>It wouldn't be cool if they had like a staircase <v Speaker 1>like with the pedestals for each system, and then there <v Speaker 1>was like a pedestal and then they like drop something <v Speaker 1>in there. Even if they have like a reference to <v Speaker 1>an empty pedestal, that could still be fun. <v Speaker 3>It's like, just make it astro, but in real life, <v Speaker 3>and for Nintendo, like that was the thing that was <v Speaker 3>so charming about Astro was it was like this PlayStation <v Speaker 3>museum basically, so just yeah, make make that. <v Speaker 2>But Nintendo, you. <v Speaker 1>Started off by saying your one piece story, and all <v Speaker 1>I could think about one piece right now is I <v Speaker 1>was watching a YouTube video of this piano player who <v Speaker 1>like goes and plays nerding music in places and people <v Speaker 1>are like, oh, this is amazing, and they're like they <v Speaker 1>kind of they always lose their mind. Except they went <v Speaker 1>to an anime convention and played a Zelda medley, an <v Speaker 1>ocreen of time medley that was beautiful and all. <v Speaker 4>Coming up like you know, do you know any one piece? <v Speaker 1>And I wanted to meet him up. <v Speaker 4>I'm sorry everybody. <v Speaker 1>I wanted to beat them up real bad, like just <v Speaker 1>shut up and listen to this amazing music. Kids. <v Speaker 3>It's well, that's im. That's the thing is that like <v Speaker 3>this is so horrible. <v Speaker 2>Uh. <v Speaker 3>Anime fans certainly a lot of people at anime conventions, <v Speaker 3>and I'm somebody that, like I work anime conventions with <v Speaker 3>some frequency, they tend to skew kind of young. So <v Speaker 3>it's like they're all really excited about Genscha impact and <v Speaker 3>they are like, what's Akarna time? <v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, totally, of course, yep, I know what's happening. <v Speaker 1>I recognize it. It's death coming for me slowly, but <v Speaker 1>surely maybe a little. <v Speaker 4>Bit faster than that. <v Speaker 1>Actually, Uh, all right, next story here, The Black Myth Wukong, <v Speaker 1>no feminist propaganda, no COVID nineteen discussion email is real. <v Speaker 4>This is from Paul Tassey at Forbes. <v Speaker 1>Ah Yes, a reported document regarding coverage for the upcoming <v Speaker 1>Black Myth Wukong has been floating around the Internet making <v Speaker 1>very strange demands from creators in order to. <v Speaker 4>Receive a code. <v Speaker 1>It seemed almost too absurd to be true, But now <v Speaker 1>I have been able to confirm with a US based <v Speaker 1>a creator slash influencer, I trust that it is in <v Speaker 1>fact legitimate A Google document attached to the email said <v Speaker 1>the following about coverage. Does enjoy the game and then don'ts. <v Speaker 1>Do not insult other influencers or players. Do not use <v Speaker 1>any offensive language or humor. Do not include politics, violence, nudity, <v Speaker 1>feminist propaganda, fetishization, and other content that instigates negative discourse. <v Speaker 1>Do not use trigger words such as quarantine or isolation <v Speaker 1>or COVID nineteen. Do not discuss content related to China's <v Speaker 1>games industry, policies, opinions, news, etc. The email was not <v Speaker 1>sent to journalist to Some of them have said it's <v Speaker 1>fake based on that, but it was for creators only. <v Speaker 1>These guidelines may also not have been been made to <v Speaker 1>all creators or were sent out merely from requests for <v Speaker 1>codes from those creators. There's no NBA required to accept <v Speaker 1>the code, so people could have just said, you. <v Speaker 2>Know, know or whatever. <v Speaker 1>Uh, yeah, weird, this is weird. I'll say real quick <v Speaker 1>that I've been getting red flags from this studio and <v Speaker 1>the people handling this studio for a while. Definitely some <v Speaker 1>oddness there is kind of what I was finally I'm <v Speaker 1>like this, you know whatever, weird team they're not accustomed <v Speaker 1>to sort of the way like, here's what's happened. Public <v Speaker 1>relations firms. There's a handful of them now, and they <v Speaker 1>all basically have best practices that they tell all these <v Speaker 1>companies to stick to. And all these companies are like, <v Speaker 1>we're paying you, so we're going to listen to you, <v Speaker 1>and so they all sort of operate in the same <v Speaker 1>exact way. <v Speaker 4>It's very predictable. It's why I feel very comfortable. <v Speaker 1>Kind of doing shows like this where we come out <v Speaker 1>and see how we really feel about things and we <v Speaker 1>know we're not going to get punished by these companies. <v Speaker 1>This feels like a situation where it's like this company's like, <v Speaker 1>we're paying you, do what we want and tell these <v Speaker 1>idiot influencers not to mention the feminist propaganda because we <v Speaker 1>don't want to see that in the news again. <v Speaker 4>And I don't know, it's weird. What do you think? <v Speaker 3>Well, I I we may or may not have a <v Speaker 3>sold project with this particular company, uh coming out very soon, <v Speaker 3>so I cannot confirm or deny that I have seen <v Speaker 3>this document. That's what I'm That's what I'm gonna say. <v Speaker 2>That's what I'm going to say. <v Speaker 1>You know you love mentioning COVID nineteen all your stuff constantly, <v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, all. <v Speaker 3>Of my all of the uh you know many uh <v Speaker 3>sponsored videos that I've done. You know that final Fantasy <v Speaker 3>seven rebirth one. We were just talking about COVID the <v Speaker 3>whole time. <v Speaker 1>YEP. I think it's uh, like clearly when when it's <v Speaker 1>like a project like that, when where money's exchanged, it's like, yeah, okay, <v Speaker 1>you can demand what you want, putting it to uh, <v Speaker 1>I don't know, putting when people were just asking for <v Speaker 1>a code, attaching any sort of thing like this feels <v Speaker 1>very weird and again like it doesn't fully understand what's happening. Now, again, <v Speaker 1>they didn't do this for journalists, so apparently was able <v Speaker 1>to say, hey, there's a line here that you can't <v Speaker 1>do this journalists or it'll become a story. Now they <v Speaker 1>did influencers. Still it's still becoming a story. But yes, <v Speaker 1>this is I don't know, this doesn't feel out of <v Speaker 1>line for like what these companies feel like they can <v Speaker 1>get away with with influencers. <v Speaker 4>This is the whole idea. <v Speaker 1>They're like, you're here to serve us, and then in exchange, <v Speaker 1>we might be able to get you some stuff early <v Speaker 1>so you can get your hits totally. <v Speaker 2>I mean, and so just to like kind of. <v Speaker 3>Approach the paid promotion angle, shall we say so. My <v Speaker 3>buddy Rob Anderson, who I went to college with, he's <v Speaker 3>I think he's heart Throb Anderson is his TikTok. <v Speaker 2>He's very very famous. <v Speaker 1>On TikTok. <v Speaker 3>He does very funny reviews of like old episodes of <v Speaker 3>Seventh Heaven and movies. <v Speaker 2>He just dropped one on face Off that absolutely rules. <v Speaker 3>But he was saying the other day that like he <v Speaker 3>can't get over watching like influencer top paid promotions where <v Speaker 3>they are just doing everything to try and convince you <v Speaker 3>that you need to buy this product, and it's bad. <v Speaker 4>They're like, oh my god, this relentless. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, this product sold out six times, so be sure <v Speaker 3>that you buy it right now. <v Speaker 2>Where you're never going. <v Speaker 1>To be able to get very mental trick. It's all <v Speaker 1>the dark patterns in one place. <v Speaker 2>It was never sold out, it was never sold out. <v Speaker 3>Nobody panic, Oh somebody at this cosmetics company is going <v Speaker 3>to lose their job because of this, blah blah blah. <v Speaker 3>So again, it's like when you're dealing with influencer marketing, <v Speaker 3>it is very different than dealing with journalists, where it's the. <v Speaker 4>Crack version of QVC. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, yeah, exactly, it's the crack cocaine version of QBC. <v Speaker 3>And it is absolutely wild that these are the guidelines <v Speaker 3>that people were sent. But basically, again, the like do <v Speaker 3>enjoy the game is like a nice way of saying, <v Speaker 3>make sure you say nice things about our game. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, totally. <v Speaker 1>And then I mean just putting the disclaimer about not <v Speaker 1>do not talk about China in there, that's I mean, <v Speaker 1>that's always such a touchy thing, and I kind of <v Speaker 1>I mean, I get that these companies feel like they <v Speaker 1>can make that demand because in China you can make <v Speaker 1>that demand. <v Speaker 2>You can make that demand. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, but every time it's come up anywhere else, it's <v Speaker 1>always blown up in their faces and that they keep trying, <v Speaker 1>and it's that's just not how we operate. So and <v Speaker 1>to be fair, the vast majority of Chinese games that <v Speaker 1>we play now have never mentioned anything like this. They <v Speaker 1>don't know, they don't streisand affect it. And this is <v Speaker 1>like the most tries and effect the document I've seen <v Speaker 1>in a while. But yeah, I don't I also don't <v Speaker 1>know if this game is necessarily worth all that. It <v Speaker 1>seems like it's a decent action adventure game that people <v Speaker 1>are some people are enjoying, some people are like, A, <v Speaker 1>it's okay, you know, it got some some of the <v Speaker 1>technical issues seem to be holding it back a little bit. <v Speaker 4>So yeah, I'll try it myself when I get a chance. <v Speaker 1>Didn't get a code, but we'll see if we get <v Speaker 1>a chance to get our hands on at that point, <v Speaker 1>maybe we'll play it on the website. <v Speaker 3>I've played it and yeah, I've played the first chapter <v Speaker 3>of the game. <v Speaker 4>It was fun, yep, yep on combat. <v Speaker 1>Do you think my guess here, my hunt here is <v Speaker 1>they released another game and there's none of this stuff. <v Speaker 4>I think they learn a lot. <v Speaker 1>I think they learned a lot of lessons, and it's <v Speaker 1>they behave much more like every other studio on the <v Speaker 1>on Earth. <v Speaker 3>Because it's like, again, we're talking about a Chinese gaming <v Speaker 3>company who is making a big showing of this game, <v Speaker 3>and like, I'm going to be real with you, everything <v Speaker 3>that GameSpot has, you know, posted about it in previews <v Speaker 3>and things has done really well. <v Speaker 2>So there is a lot of interest in this game, definitely. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, I think that I think that now, especially <v Speaker 3>that this like document is out there in the world <v Speaker 3>and it has become a story, even though it was <v Speaker 3>like they didn't send it to journalists with I think <v Speaker 3>probably the thought that it wasn't going to become a story, <v Speaker 3>but I frankly think that they didn't think about it <v Speaker 3>at all. <v Speaker 2>They were like, we can do this. <v Speaker 3>In China, but we're going to do this yep, yep, <v Speaker 3>totally and that you know, I think we will see <v Speaker 3>again another game from this studio and it'll be a <v Speaker 3>very different story. <v Speaker 4>Yep, I agree. <v Speaker 1>And that's I mean, there's a reason that it's the <v Speaker 1>way it works that way. There's a certain level of <v Speaker 1>like just professional respect for the other person doing their <v Speaker 1>job that this industry, industry defaults to at a certain point, <v Speaker 1>and this doesn't feel like it honors that. I mean, <v Speaker 1>it's not like some grand send send that they're doing <v Speaker 1>over here. This is not something that I think that <v Speaker 1>they should go to prison for. This is not that <v Speaker 1>big of a deal. But it's like, ah, a little awkward, <v Speaker 1>a little weird. Don't do that. Yeah, yeah, all right, <v Speaker 1>let's take a quick break when we get back. We <v Speaker 1>have plenty more headlines to get to right after this. <v Speaker 1>All right, we are back, Let's get right into it <v Speaker 1>with Ubisoft more layoffs, laying now forty five people from <v Speaker 1>US offices. This is from James Bachelor at Games Industry <v Speaker 1>dop IS. Ubisoft has made another round of layoffs, this <v Speaker 1>time cutting staff from two of its US studios. A <v Speaker 1>total of forty five employees have been let go across <v Speaker 1>the Assassin's Creed publisher, San Francisco Studio and Red Storm Entertainment, <v Speaker 1>which is based in Carrie, North Carolina. It is unclear <v Speaker 1>which departments have been affected. Yesterday, Ubisoft San Francisco and <v Speaker 1>Red Storm Entertainment and formed their team of a structuring <v Speaker 1>that resulted in forty five employees leaving a studio leaving <v Speaker 1>the studio, a UBI soft spokesperson told ig in and <v Speaker 1>a statement, this difficult, yet necessary decision was made to <v Speaker 1>align these studios or organ least studios organizations with their <v Speaker 1>future businesses and development objectives. We are committed to providing <v Speaker 1>comprehensive support to those affected, including severance and career assistants, <v Speaker 1>and we thank them for their many contributions to Ubisoft. <v Speaker 1>I'd be curious to hear any time that those career <v Speaker 1>assistance things. <v Speaker 4>Like what has that ever led to? Anything? <v Speaker 1>Mean? Yeah? What does it mean? Like what what is that? <v Speaker 1>Does it lead to any outcomes at all? But yeah, <v Speaker 1>I mean nobodys ever complained about it either, so maybe <v Speaker 1>it's something I don't know. <v Speaker 3>No, I yeah, I mean I'm with you though that <v Speaker 3>I would be very very curious to hear, like, what <v Speaker 3>are you actually doing and what and give me the results? <v Speaker 2>Who's gotten jobs out of this? <v Speaker 4>This? <v Speaker 1>This does seem to be the outcome from a couple <v Speaker 1>of setbacks for their studios. In fact, that's what it <v Speaker 1>says right here. Red Storm Entertainment already suffered a setback <v Speaker 1>in May when you Beff canceled mobile title Tom Clancy's <v Speaker 1>The Division Heartland and then you saw San Francisco. Meanwhile, <v Speaker 1>is the team behind the publishers recently launched online shooter <v Speaker 1>X Defiant, which has sort of like come and gone <v Speaker 1>a little bit, which I yeah, I was a little <v Speaker 1>surprised by because X Defiant seems perfectly fine to me. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>There's a video going around of one of the influencers <v Speaker 1>in the shooter space, an old competitive player, being like, <v Speaker 1>people just want to hate games right now, and these <v Speaker 1>games like X Fiant come along and you guys just <v Speaker 1>want to hate it. And if I try to say <v Speaker 1>anything nice about it. Y'all jump down my bro Michelle <v Speaker 1>Stars Outlaws and like, yeah, there's just this negativity in <v Speaker 1>the air. But regardless, that's the environment that these games <v Speaker 1>are going too. I next Defiant and you needed to <v Speaker 1>thrive and it didn't, So here we are. I don't know. <v Speaker 1>Ubisoft always feels like they are just constantly missing the <v Speaker 1>bullseye over and over again. <v Speaker 2>I completely agree with you. <v Speaker 3>It's like, yes, they try to do something else, it <v Speaker 3>never quite works, and then we just make another assassince <v Speaker 3>for you. <v Speaker 2>It's like, that's like what that's like the Ubisoft right. <v Speaker 1>And Sean mentions it like, yeah, the problem is that <v Speaker 1>fine doesn't cut it right now? <v Speaker 4>Because what no? And why do we get angry about that? <v Speaker 1>Like maybe we shouldn't, We probably shouldn't get angry, but <v Speaker 1>there's a reason we get angry, and it's cause these <v Speaker 1>companies are all saying they're promising so much, and they're <v Speaker 1>saying this is going to be a new hobby and <v Speaker 1>you need to treat it like a hobby to get <v Speaker 1>the most out of these games. And at a certain <v Speaker 1>point it's like leave me alone or come at me <v Speaker 1>with the realist shit. Ever, those two options either shut <v Speaker 1>up or show up with something real, and I don't <v Speaker 1>kind of at a certain point like that initial knee jerk <v Speaker 1>reaction of this is annoying me. <v Speaker 4>Stop. <v Speaker 1>I don't want to I don't want to care about <v Speaker 1>this game unless you give me a recon to care <v Speaker 1>about this game. I understand pick any anger anywhere beyond that, <v Speaker 1>we just got to like let it go and forget <v Speaker 1>about it. But yeah, yeah, and Human Self's done that <v Speaker 1>over and over. It feels like where they are making <v Speaker 1>big promises about their games, especially in the live service games, <v Speaker 1>and they always feel like they fizzle out, and it's like, man, <v Speaker 1>this is this company ever going to learn? <v Speaker 2>Yeah? <v Speaker 3>I mean well, and it's just again, it's like we've <v Speaker 3>had this conversation so many times about how I think <v Speaker 3>there is a real interest and shift towards these indie <v Speaker 3>studios that are putting out these games where they are <v Speaker 3>able to take risks and to do something a little <v Speaker 3>bit different, even if it's just doing a really good <v Speaker 3>take on an existing genre. And some of that is <v Speaker 3>they just don't have as much to lose, and so <v Speaker 3>I you know, and it's the same thing that happens <v Speaker 3>in the film industry, Like I am sick and tired <v Speaker 3>of Marvel and Star Wars. <v Speaker 2>I just don't care. <v Speaker 3>There's too much and so I'm way more interested did <v Speaker 3>in you know, like movies and games that are doing <v Speaker 3>something else, that are spending less money and having to <v Speaker 3>get creative. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 3>So I think that again, it's like when you paint <v Speaker 3>yourself into a corner like a Ubisoft where you are <v Speaker 3>basically promising to deliver these big Triple A games that <v Speaker 3>are going to take up a ton of your time, <v Speaker 3>you better deliver, and they don't yep. <v Speaker 4>And it's uh. <v Speaker 1>And when we feel like we have had options taken <v Speaker 1>away because all of the money is getting funneled into <v Speaker 1>these bigger and bigger projects that are supposed to become <v Speaker 1>hobbies or are the Marvel films, and it feels like <v Speaker 1>there's an absence in these other spaces that we used <v Speaker 1>to have, Like you know, we name a bunch of <v Speaker 1>things off the top of our heads, but like ya <v Speaker 1>sports big, right, that's. <v Speaker 4>Something that doesn't exist anymore. <v Speaker 1>And it's like, man, there was a time when we <v Speaker 1>get fifty games in that genre a year, and a <v Speaker 1>handful of them were good. But you know, some of <v Speaker 1>them were like kind of fun in a mediocre way, <v Speaker 1>and it was just kind of good, cool to have <v Speaker 1>the option. And I understand that, you know that we <v Speaker 1>are in a space where it's like the best have <v Speaker 1>thrived and survived and sort of made it so all <v Speaker 1>these other ones can't compete. But you know, Okay, well, <v Speaker 1>then when you do come with the thing that is <v Speaker 1>big and we've been waiting for for a long time, <v Speaker 1>or that you've been working on for a long time, <v Speaker 1>to the exclusion of all these other projects, the expectation. <v Speaker 4>Levels aren't necessarily going to be higher. <v Speaker 1>And yeah, I don't think these companies necessarily reckon with that, <v Speaker 1>yeah so much. And they I mean, they definitely reckon <v Speaker 1>with it well in terms of their revenue and their <v Speaker 1>bottom line, the top line and laying people off, clearly right, <v Speaker 1>But in terms of how we feel about the way <v Speaker 1>that gaming has gone, the way the general audience feels <v Speaker 1>about like their options, I don't think they've reckoned with that. <v Speaker 2>No, they definitely haven't. <v Speaker 3>And like to be very clear, I don't think that <v Speaker 3>any of this is the bault, shall we say, of <v Speaker 3>the employees that are working on that like development line, <v Speaker 3>they are in an impossible situation wherein the pressure to <v Speaker 3>be constantly delivering is just wild. And I think that again, <v Speaker 3>like it's video games have gotten into what I would <v Speaker 3>say is like the Netflix cycle, Like how many Netflix <v Speaker 3>originals come out every single month even and then you're like, <v Speaker 3>I didn't even know that existed because there's no marketing <v Speaker 3>whatsoever around it. And there's so much noise in the <v Speaker 3>gaming industry with all of these companies constantly churning out <v Speaker 3>games that it's like the ones that are like just <v Speaker 3>quietly making their nice little thing, I'm way more apt <v Speaker 3>to pay attention to than these big companies that are <v Speaker 3>trying to yell over each other. <v Speaker 1>Yep. I uh. And you know what, what is the solution? <v Speaker 1>What is it like? What does the future look like <v Speaker 1>that's any different? I don't know. I mean I think <v Speaker 1>I keep glancing away from these companies, looking at smaller <v Speaker 1>indie studios and looking at Steam and being like, I <v Speaker 1>mean this games keep getting bigger and better all the time. <v Speaker 1>These ones from these small teams that are just using <v Speaker 1>unity are unreal. And I hope that those genres that <v Speaker 1>have gone away keep getting filled in more and more <v Speaker 1>by them, and I can spend less time worrying about <v Speaker 1>what you be soft and needs to do to make <v Speaker 1>sense for uskim all. Now they have more than ten <v Speaker 1>thousand employees, so I hope they're able to figure something <v Speaker 1>out for the sake of all those people making games <v Speaker 1>over there. But you know, if that means more Assassin's <v Speaker 1>Creed and just Assassin's Creed, they'll do that. And you know, fair, <v Speaker 1>fair game whatever, I get it. You got to make <v Speaker 1>your money. Yeah, Hollow Night's Silk Song will not be <v Speaker 1>shown at games Calm Opening Night Laves. <v Speaker 2>This is not a real game, it doesn't. It's all. <v Speaker 1>It's a phantom. It's a honey trap. They're just putting <v Speaker 1>out there you all are some sort of criminals and <v Speaker 1>they're trying to capture you. I don't know what to <v Speaker 1>tell you. <v Speaker 4>This is from George inga GameSpot. <v Speaker 1>Team Cherry will not be showing anything related to Hollow <v Speaker 1>Night's Silk Song this week, much to the dismay of <v Speaker 1>any of many fans. Host Jeff Keeley said on Twitter, <v Speaker 1>just to kit this out of the way, no Silk Song. <v Speaker 1>On Tuesday on Opening Night Live, Team Cherry is still cooking. <v Speaker 1>Fans have taken the announcement and responded to it in <v Speaker 1>a humorous way ways in order to cope with the news. <v Speaker 1>One user said, so you're saying blood Boorn too has <v Speaker 1>a chance, referencing the endless requests from fans for a <v Speaker 1>Bloodborn follow up. Another user said, I appreciate the update, man, <v Speaker 1>but was the pick necessary? They were pointing out the <v Speaker 1>image with the main character and clown makeup that Keeley used. <v Speaker 1>It's a common trend that appears when fans hope that <v Speaker 1>Silksong shows up whenever a showcase like a Nintendo Direct <v Speaker 1>is announced. Now in defense of Hollow Night fans, earlier <v Speaker 1>this year, this game was apparently like submitted for rating <v Speaker 1>in some territories, which usually doesn't happen unless the game <v Speaker 1>is going to come out within the next six to like, <v Speaker 1>you know, six weeks to three months, and it's been <v Speaker 1>a lot longer than that now, it's been a lot <v Speaker 1>longer than three months since that happened. That was much <v Speaker 1>earlier this year. Actually, maybe we are getting about three months. <v Speaker 1>But either way, it's like you would expect this game <v Speaker 1>to have been announced at this point and it's you know, <v Speaker 1>re announced, re re revealed after the last time we <v Speaker 1>saw it, which I think was just the Xbox Showcase <v Speaker 1>two years, you know, two plus years ago. Now, yeah, yeah, I. <v Speaker 4>Think that's right. But either way, it's like. <v Speaker 1>The expectations were this time, Yeah, this game could drop <v Speaker 1>at any moment, and now we're hearing is like, okay, <v Speaker 1>well it wasn't at the direct it wasn't at a <v Speaker 1>summer game fest, it wasn't at the Xbox Showcase. That <v Speaker 1>happened this summer again. Now it's not an Opening Night Live. <v Speaker 1>This game's probably not coming out this. <v Speaker 2>Year, right, No, no, it's not. <v Speaker 3>I think the best we can hope for at this <v Speaker 3>point is like a trailer during the Game Awards. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, a trailer during the Game Awards, and then <v Speaker 1>like an early twenty twenty five release dates still seams <v Speaker 1>on the table, and I guess. <v Speaker 4>You know, I guess, so I look at it. It's August. <v Speaker 1>There's probably like Nintendo Sony something, you know, Xbox could <v Speaker 1>have another thing in the next couple of months and <v Speaker 1>it gets announced in and maybe it drops this holiday. <v Speaker 3>Still that seems unlikely to me, as I say, my <v Speaker 3>money would be on trailer at the Game Awards and <v Speaker 3>like a February twenty twenty five release or something like that. <v Speaker 3>I will say that there was a fan gamer store <v Speaker 3>in chibu Yah when I was there, and they did <v Speaker 3>they had a plush of Hornet, you know, the character <v Speaker 3>who's the main one in Silk Songs. <v Speaker 2>So it is in theory, in theory, this game is real. <v Speaker 2>I saw somebody in chat say that. <v Speaker 3>They said that Minati claims to have played this game <v Speaker 3>in twenty nineteen, and they're pretty sure he just was <v Speaker 3>a fever. <v Speaker 1>Dream Yep, he was. He was high on whatever they whatever, <v Speaker 1>alcoholic drinks they sell it Disney. Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>Lexi mentioned in chat that, hey, maybe they're strategically holding <v Speaker 1>it back for the switch To, And at one point <v Speaker 1>I thought that was possible, but now hearing the switch <v Speaker 1>To might not launch until at least April next year, <v Speaker 1>and probably the holidays next year. I mean, or that's <v Speaker 1>just as likely as as April or May. I don't know. <v Speaker 1>That seems so far away that I don't It seems <v Speaker 1>like a bad idea to hold it back specifically for <v Speaker 1>that when I think you could release it, you know, <v Speaker 1>this holiday, if that's a possibility again, who knows. They <v Speaker 1>could release it this holiday and then have the physical <v Speaker 1>addition launch alongside the Switch to with a switch to version, <v Speaker 1>I think that would pop off real hard and they <v Speaker 1>can a double dip. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I know. <v Speaker 3>But at the same time, you're like, would Nintendo do that? <v Speaker 3>Would Nintendo give like a big launch of a new <v Speaker 3>console to a game that is not their ip. <v Speaker 4>Like, you know, any game can sort of be there. <v Speaker 4>But the good news for. <v Speaker 1>This team Team Cherry is that I think it's in <v Speaker 1>one of that it's one of the few games from <v Speaker 1>indie studios that is in that top tier echelon. It's <v Speaker 1>sold so well on Switch for sure that Nintendo noticed. <v Speaker 1>It's it's this, It's this, It's Hades, it's a few <v Speaker 1>it's Stardew Valley, it's the Golf Story, a handful of <v Speaker 1>games that just crushed on Switch that Nintendo would be like, actually, <v Speaker 1>we do pay attention. Now, It's Nintendo going to like <v Speaker 1>pay money or anything to happen on their system. <v Speaker 4>Absolutely not. <v Speaker 1>They don't do that, but of. <v Speaker 4>Course not, but they would be I think they need. <v Speaker 2>To pay money to have your games. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, but I think they'd be willing to be like, <v Speaker 1>we have a direct for our switch to coming out. <v Speaker 1>Here's like the final direct for the Switch to is out. <v Speaker 1>Here's some news. Hollow Night Silk Song will launch day <v Speaker 1>one on switch To or there will be a switch <v Speaker 1>To version on day one. And here's like the physical <v Speaker 1>edition from Limited Run Games or whatever something like that. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, yeah, we see. <v Speaker 1>Good luck to all those fans out there. I will <v Speaker 1>between now when this game comes out, I will play. <v Speaker 2>It's very good. <v Speaker 4>Yes, everyone seems to like it. <v Speaker 1>Quit rumor that component suppliers say mass production for new <v Speaker 1>Switch model begins the next quarter. This is my Nintendo news. <v Speaker 1>The CEO of well Trend Semiconductor Incorporated, which is a <v Speaker 1>taiwan aes semiconductor manufacturer, has apparently stated that the orders <v Speaker 1>excuse me orders for videoing consoles will recover in the <v Speaker 1>third quarter. He says that this is down to shipments <v Speaker 1>of the new PlayStation five, Xbox and Nintendo Switch models. <v Speaker 1>We already know that Sony is readying its PlayStation five <v Speaker 1>Pro console. Microsoft has a new Xbox Series X two <v Speaker 1>terabyte Galaxy Black Special Edition model coming out, and obviously <v Speaker 1>we are all waiting the successor to Nintendo Switch, which <v Speaker 1>is expected to launch after March next year. The source <v Speaker 1>of this information comes from money DJ, which apparently has <v Speaker 1>a fairly spotty track record to take it with a <v Speaker 1>grain of salt, but has been a correct before. Either way, <v Speaker 1>I think that regardless of where the info come froms <v Speaker 1>comes from, or even what this semiconductor CEO is saying, <v Speaker 1>they got to start manufacturing these things relatively soon. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>especially like the components. The clonents do need to start <v Speaker 1>coming together and getting into a central location. So they <v Speaker 1>could start putting this thing together now. If they do <v Speaker 1>start it next quarter, the holiday quarter, so beginning September <v Speaker 1>or I'm sorry, October, November or December. If they start <v Speaker 1>then and then they don't launch it till April or May, <v Speaker 1>they probably will be fine in terms of unit the <v Speaker 1>number of units they have. But they did mention that <v Speaker 1>they want to avoid as much as they can the <v Speaker 1>low supply. So again I'm like this, maybe they're going <v Speaker 1>to start making these things for almost a whole year <v Speaker 1>before they launch it in the fall of twenty twenty five, <v Speaker 1>which again I. <v Speaker 4>Think its just as possible I do. <v Speaker 1>Did you read anything into the tea leaves here about <v Speaker 1>the launch of the system based on let's say this <v Speaker 1>thing gets starts to manufacture next quarter. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean I because again, like I remember when <v Speaker 3>all of the last consoles launched basically and how it <v Speaker 3>was very difficult to get any of them, you know, <v Speaker 3>Switch included. I remember my dad was like, I will <v Speaker 3>buy you a Breath of the Wild for your Switch <v Speaker 3>when you are able to get one. <v Speaker 2>So you know, to me, if I were. <v Speaker 3>Nintendo, I would want my Switch to to come out <v Speaker 3>summer twenty twenty five because you know why people are traveling, <v Speaker 3>and you know, it's a great time to play. <v Speaker 2>On an airplane. <v Speaker 1>On an airplane, it's the system that probably could do <v Speaker 1>very well with the summer line. <v Speaker 3>I think it would do very well with the summer launch. <v Speaker 3>But that being said, I don't know. Realistically, it could <v Speaker 3>very well be a holiday twenty twenty five and there's <v Speaker 3>no scarcity and everybody that wants to switch to can <v Speaker 3>get one. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, you know, I think no matter how many they make, <v Speaker 1>there will be some scarcity. <v Speaker 2>No for sure, for sure. <v Speaker 1>Yep, But I mean, yeah, I don't know. It's hard <v Speaker 1>to say. I think what we could say for sure <v Speaker 1>at this moment is manufacturing probably hasn't started, as if <v Speaker 1>yet or else it would have leaked, we probably would <v Speaker 1>be seeing this thing in some way at this point. <v Speaker 1>So once and Nintendo I think is pretty aware of this, <v Speaker 1>which is why they've promised to reveal this thing before <v Speaker 1>the end of the fiscal year. And I bet they <v Speaker 1>reveal it as they go to manufacturing, so they can <v Speaker 1>control the narrative on that, and they know it'll leak, <v Speaker 1>so they could just announce it themselves. <v Speaker 4>Show it off. <v Speaker 1>But we'll see. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, all right. <v Speaker 1>Sega's nineteen ninety three fighting game Eternal Champions is becoming <v Speaker 1>a movie for some reason. <v Speaker 4>This is from Chris scullying to vgc oh. <v Speaker 1>Random The Hollywood Reporter says the live action adaptation of <v Speaker 1>the Mega Drive Genesis one on one Fighter is being <v Speaker 1>written by Derek Connolly. Connolly has a reputation for co <v Speaker 1>writing numerous movies based on franchises and known ip with <v Speaker 1>co writing credits on such films as Jurassic World Trilogy, <v Speaker 1>Detective Pikachu, Kong, Skull Island, and Star Wars Star Wars <v Speaker 1>Episode nine, The Rise of Skywalker. <v Speaker 4>So he should be in prison. <v Speaker 2>What a mixed record for real? Some of those movies <v Speaker 2>are pretty good and a lot of them are real bad. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, but that's okay. <v Speaker 1>Some are pretty good and then I don't know as <v Speaker 1>much to do with the writing, Like Conks Skull Island <v Speaker 1>just had a good energy and stuff like that. <v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, cong Skull Island's good. That was one of <v Speaker 3>the ones I was considering to be good. <v Speaker 2>Jurassic World Trilogy not so much. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, there's a lot of rough stuff in there. <v Speaker 1>The film is said to be produced by sky Dance <v Speaker 1>with Skydance which is said to merge with Paramount Global <v Speaker 1>next year. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will <v Speaker 1>be producing the movie for sky Dance. Let's The Eternal <v Speaker 1>Champions was released in nineteen ninety three for the sake <v Speaker 1>of Mega Drive Slash Genesis and was a fighting game <v Speaker 1>with characters from different time periods. It was also like <v Speaker 1>post Mortal Kombat. So the whole thing with Eternal Champions <v Speaker 1>was this is gonna be so. <v Speaker 4>Gory and bloody. <v Speaker 1>It's crash, it's gonna take over your brain and make <v Speaker 1>you a murderer. And yeah, and as Sean says, it's <v Speaker 1>it's bad. It's real bad. Yeah, it's not a fun game. <v Speaker 2>I have never even heard of this game. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it was. <v Speaker 4>It definitely just did not make the impact. <v Speaker 3>It was some weird ones, some weird fighting game on Genesis. <v Speaker 3>I want to say, but they were like fun where <v Speaker 3>this seems on this one I missed. <v Speaker 1>I mean, I'll read this paragraph, which might provide some <v Speaker 1>fun potential for a writer if you're making a movie. <v Speaker 1>The game's story is like based around a fighting tournament <v Speaker 1>that is held to see which of the fighters, including <v Speaker 1>a catburger from nineteen twenty Chicago, a vampire living in <v Speaker 1>Vietnam in nineteen sixty seven, a US cyber kickboxer from <v Speaker 1>twenty three to forty five AD, a caveman hunter from <v Speaker 1>fifty thousand BC, and a sixty nineties alchemy student killed <v Speaker 1>during the Salem Witch Trials, could defeat the others and <v Speaker 1>gain their life back while restoring the storying balance to mankind. <v Speaker 1>So they're all dead, yes, I think they've all died, <v Speaker 1>and they've gone to this eternal or the Eternal Champions <v Speaker 1>fighting dimension, and the winner will get to go back <v Speaker 1>to their life and save humanity whatever. It's it's a <v Speaker 1>tournament film and those yeah, it could easy. Well, they <v Speaker 1>just make a blood sport. They just make blood sport. <v Speaker 4>It's that easy. <v Speaker 3>Well, I mean, as long as they lean into how <v Speaker 3>ridiculous this premise is and really embrace the camp yep. <v Speaker 2>It could be fun. <v Speaker 5>I would like people to reconsider the Sam Raimi film <v Speaker 5>Quick in the Dead if you haven't seen it, it's <v Speaker 5>basically I've been like, Actually, it fully leans into its <v Speaker 5>pre like literally, the entire premise is this is a <v Speaker 5>like super high stakes one on one like quick draw tournament. <v Speaker 5>It's an anime basically like the level of seriousness that <v Speaker 5>it puts into this quick draw tournament. <v Speaker 2>It's real fun. I think if you do. <v Speaker 3>Something like that, this could definitely work. I will say <v Speaker 3>that we did a panel at San Diego Comic Con <v Speaker 3>wherein people pitched what should be the next video game <v Speaker 3>series to receive the prestige television treatment. The winner was <v Speaker 3>Doctor Marios, as pitched by Chris Hayner of GameSpot. <v Speaker 2>It was real fun. <v Speaker 3>Myself and Jan hosted the panel, jam through a bunch <v Speaker 3>of what ifs and made people make amendments. <v Speaker 2>To their series on the fly. It was real fun. <v Speaker 3>I have to say, Eternal Champions, if they do it right, <v Speaker 3>I'd green light this. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, me too. <v Speaker 1>It just sounds like the exact kind of silly adaptation <v Speaker 1>that I want to see more of from games because <v Speaker 1>it's low stakes right, you get Eternal Champions wrong. <v Speaker 4>Who cares? I don't. <v Speaker 1>Let's just make it as silly as possible. I think <v Speaker 1>I'm going for something similar to what happened with the <v Speaker 1>Twisted Metal series, which I haven't seen, but people seem <v Speaker 1>to like, yeah, no, they just kind of made something <v Speaker 1>fun and that we enjoyed that. I'm like, okay, yeah, <v Speaker 1>that's a good goal to aim for. Yeah. Video game <v Speaker 1>actors want less secrecy over projects when explicit scenes are involved. <v Speaker 1>This is from Chris Going at VGC. Video game performers <v Speaker 1>want less secrecy over the projects they sign up for <v Speaker 1>because it could sometimes lead to them performing in distressing <v Speaker 1>scenes without warning. A new report finds the BBC sites <v Speaker 1>numerous motion captures and voice acting performers who say they <v Speaker 1>want the industry to be less secretive over the games <v Speaker 1>they're providing performances for. Casting director Jessica Jeffries told the <v Speaker 1>BBC that performers are often told nothing by the developers <v Speaker 1>about the nature of the game or the scenes they're <v Speaker 1>shooting until the last minute. We'd get an email or <v Speaker 1>a call from a studio saying we need you on <v Speaker 1>these days for a shoot. She explained that was all <v Speaker 1>the information we'd get. Jeffrey said she had experienced distressing. <v Speaker 1>She had experienced distressing examples of this firsthand, including one <v Speaker 1>situation which she was asked to play a victim, the <v Speaker 1>victim of a sexual assault, without being told about it beforehand. <v Speaker 1>You can imagine, does it seem like a great thing, <v Speaker 1>That seems like something you should get people heads up <v Speaker 1>on because these are human beings trying to give human performances. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, can't spring that on somebody. <v Speaker 4>Holy moly, you know. <v Speaker 3>I think this is the thing is that you know, <v Speaker 3>for so long video games were they didn't do motion capture. <v Speaker 2>But motion capture is pretty. <v Speaker 1>Standard now right, Those video and companies very secretive, never <v Speaker 1>telling anybody anything about anything throughout that whole time. <v Speaker 3>Correct, But like you when you are asking somebody, like <v Speaker 3>even if it's just a voice performance, truly, I think <v Speaker 3>that they should have some transparency about this, but particularly <v Speaker 3>in the event that you are, you know, acting this <v Speaker 3>out with your body for mocap, like that's very distressing and. <v Speaker 2>On a film set. <v Speaker 3>And like, granted I have not done mocap, I don't <v Speaker 3>know if you know they have this. I would assume <v Speaker 3>that some studios do when some don't. You have intimacy <v Speaker 3>coordinators anytime there's any sort of sexual content involved to <v Speaker 3>basically make sure that everybody is comfortable at all times. <v Speaker 3>And that is something that you need to have even <v Speaker 3>when there is no actual nudity involved, Even if you <v Speaker 3>are just you know, wearing your MOCAP suit with your <v Speaker 3>shiny balls and lines, it's still you still need that <v Speaker 3>on set. And you know, it's one of those things <v Speaker 3>is we as we sort of transition into this new <v Speaker 3>era of the way things are done. But even before <v Speaker 3>MOGAP there was rotoscoping. You know, this is not an <v Speaker 3>entirely new concept. <v Speaker 1>Yep. And I mean I think part of it is. <v Speaker 1>I mean, the biggest part is just that secrecy. These <v Speaker 1>companies are so used to like keeping everything on lockdown <v Speaker 1>that they don't tell anybody anything and they don't ever <v Speaker 1>consider the human cost of that. And this is one <v Speaker 1>where it's like, well, the secrecy of your video game <v Speaker 1>is actually not as important as making sure the people <v Speaker 1>that you are going to be distressing understand the situation <v Speaker 1>they're entering before they enter it. It's like standing back <v Speaker 1>and being able to examine the whole thing. It's very <v Speaker 1>easy for us to just be like that is obvious, <v Speaker 1>and I'm sure in the thick of it, when these <v Speaker 1>companies are just doing their usual practices of how they <v Speaker 1>treat all these situations, it might not occur to them, <v Speaker 1>but it should. And I'm glad that the industry is <v Speaker 1>sort of calling out these companies on this and saying, no, <v Speaker 1>this needs the change and the working toward that right now. <v Speaker 1>Last thing here, Epic Games Store including Fortnite, launches on <v Speaker 1>iOS in the EU and Android and then on Android worldwide. <v Speaker 1>Them Jordan Miller at VGC, The Epic Game Store is <v Speaker 1>launching today on mobile. The store will be available on <v Speaker 1>iOS in the EU and worldwide on Android. The store <v Speaker 1>will launch with three games, Fortnite, Fall, Guys Mobile, and <v Speaker 1>Rocket League Sideswipe. So this was. <v Speaker 4>A long time coming. <v Speaker 1>Apparently Epic has spent like a billion dollars suing Google <v Speaker 1>and an Apple to get to this point. Oh boy, <v Speaker 1>and I remember, now you can get Yes, now you <v Speaker 1>can get these stores. I guess you can get these <v Speaker 1>stores through the store, like through the app store. All <v Speaker 1>three games will also be available on the Alt Store <v Speaker 1>and Independent store that can also be accessed on iOS. <v Speaker 1>But I think you can download the store directly through <v Speaker 1>the thing, or at the very least you'll be able <v Speaker 1>to very easily install it from the web or something <v Speaker 1>like that. <v Speaker 4>I haven't done the process myself. <v Speaker 1>Myself. Maybe I'll look at my phone here and see <v Speaker 1>if I can find the Epic Store. But yeah, the <v Speaker 1>whole point was they don't want to pay the money <v Speaker 1>to Google and Apple anymore, and they were able to <v Speaker 1>get the concessions to at least carve out that. There's <v Speaker 1>a lot of other stuff they fought about, but this <v Speaker 1>is one of the bigger ones. <v Speaker 4>So here we are. Are you going to install Epic <v Speaker 4>Game Store? Emma, No, probably not. <v Speaker 2>I don't play games on my phone very much. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. Yeah, I got the Epic Game Store on my <v Speaker 3>PC where it belongs. <v Speaker 1>Yes, exactly, all right, type Epic It's it's launching today, <v Speaker 1>so it's not there now, fair enough? Yeah, all right. <v Speaker 3>I do appreciate Seawan's note about this, though, which is <v Speaker 3>they give you a cat Girl Fortnite skin for installing. <v Speaker 2>I'm so cooked. <v Speaker 3>Ha. <v Speaker 1>Well there you go, everybody, Shawn's cooked by the cat <v Speaker 1>Girl skin as always. <v Speaker 3>Wait, you know, I think I moved it to say <v Speaker 3>to put the ha on the end. <v Speaker 2>Because Sean, the essage of Sean is gone. <v Speaker 3>Okay, I think that was my fault. <v Speaker 1>But the way you read it, actually it's way so much. <v Speaker 4>That's yeah. <v Speaker 1>Oh man, that's really funny. Cat Girl Fortnite skin Okay. Uh, <v Speaker 1>that does it for the headlines, everybody. I got a <v Speaker 1>full question here that I will bring up. Now, let's see, <v Speaker 1>let me just frame it up proper. Uh, which game <v Speaker 1>will you be getting in September? Let's see here. Two <v Speaker 1>percent said they're getting Epic Mickey, eight percent said they're <v Speaker 1>getting the Plucky Squire, twenty six percent said they're getting Astrobot, <v Speaker 1>thirty percent said they're getting the Legends All to Echoes, <v Speaker 1>a Wisdom, and a whopping. Thirty five percent the number <v Speaker 1>one best selling game in September is going to be nothing. <v Speaker 4>Thirty five percent said they're getting nothing. <v Speaker 1>Sam Man, I am I'm excited about Uh yeah, maybe <v Speaker 1>not Epic Mickey. I guess I have to wait and <v Speaker 1>see how people feel about it. Maybe if it's a <v Speaker 1>major improvement from the original Mickey, I'll check it out. <v Speaker 1>But uh, Plucky Squire, I've been playing that. I have <v Speaker 1>the preview version of that, and that's very It's kind <v Speaker 1>of everything I'm kind of hoping for. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it looks great. <v Speaker 1>And then but then, man, Astrobot, you're. <v Speaker 2>Now you're You're like the number one astro fan. <v Speaker 4>I'm the astro influencer, I'll say. <v Speaker 1>Jordan Midler told me on Friday, He's like, don't worry, <v Speaker 1>Groub review codes will come in for this game today. <v Speaker 4>And I don't know if that. <v Speaker 1>I don't know anything about the review codes otherwise because <v Speaker 1>I'm not handling that. But I was like, okay, okay. <v Speaker 1>And then I was like kind of waiting to see <v Speaker 1>if that would happen. And it did and I emailed <v Speaker 1>them back and he's like, look, all right, I was <v Speaker 1>lied to. He's like, don't you think if I had it, <v Speaker 1>I'd be gloating. I'm like, yeah, yeah, I broke my heart. <v Speaker 4>But this weekend is going to be so awesome. No, <v Speaker 4>it wasn't. <v Speaker 1>It wasn't awesome. <v Speaker 4>No, Astrobot. All right. <v Speaker 1>We got a new poll question in here at a second. <v Speaker 1>In the meantime, though, Emma, why don't you tell people <v Speaker 1>they can find you on the internet what you have <v Speaker 1>going on? <v Speaker 4>All that good stuff? <v Speaker 3>Well, you can find me at my name Emma Fife <v Speaker 3>on Instagram, on Twitter, which I don't use anymore, but <v Speaker 3>I still have a Twitter, and you can find the <v Speaker 3>video that we did for Blackmith Wukong coming out soon. <v Speaker 3>I think that should be up tomorrow on across fandom websites, <v Speaker 3>dot com domains, game Spot, and I think it'll be <v Speaker 3>on gamespots YouTube as well. It's real fun. There may <v Speaker 3>or may not be an animal in it, so just <v Speaker 3>keep that in mind. And then also I would love <v Speaker 3>to promote that if any of y'all are fans of reading. <v Speaker 3>My soon to be husband has a company that is <v Speaker 3>called boss Fight Books. They are short documentary style books <v Speaker 3>about video games. Some of them are more based on criticism, <v Speaker 3>some get really deep into development history. <v Speaker 2>And they may or may not have a new kickstarter <v Speaker 2>for a new season launching tomorrow, so just keep your <v Speaker 2>eyes peeled on that. <v Speaker 3>And there might be a book this time about a <v Speaker 3>very historically significant MMO, so talk amongst yourselves and speculate <v Speaker 3>on what that might be. <v Speaker 4>It is probably Neopets, I'm gonna. <v Speaker 2>Say totally neopats. <v Speaker 4>Got it one, everybody? All right? A new poll question. <v Speaker 1>That's gonna be up on YouTube or YouTube, dot com <v Speaker 1>slash at Giant Bomb if you go the community, Ted, <v Speaker 1>you can find this. Are you feeling more confident about <v Speaker 1>Silent Hill to remake? Yes or no? We'll get the <v Speaker 1>results of that. Discussing on Games Mornings on Wednesday here <v Speaker 1>on Giant Bomb. Speaking of Giant Bomb. On Tuesday, of course, <v Speaker 1>we will have the Giant BombCast from Germany. The team <v Speaker 1>is out in Germany. They are gonna figure this out. <v Speaker 1>They're gonna record this soon. I don't know what time <v Speaker 1>it is there, it's probably already Wednesday there. They're gonna <v Speaker 1>record an episode and it will go onto the website. <v Speaker 1>You know, they're traveling. It's the team from the road, <v Speaker 1>so it won't be quite as robust as a normal BombCast, <v Speaker 1>but it might have some fun extras in there. So <v Speaker 1>Jan's putting that together. The crew will also be attending <v Speaker 1>Opening Night Live while we are here talking over that tomorrow. God, <v Speaker 1>that's a lot of stuff. I gotta get organized for that, <v Speaker 1>but yes. <v Speaker 4>Be handling that. That'll be fun. <v Speaker 1>We'll do. We'll also a pre and post show for that, everybody, <v Speaker 1>so be sure to tune in. And then later this <v Speaker 1>week voicemail Dumb Truck from Germany as well from a <v Speaker 1>Games Calm look out for that, and then it's August <v Speaker 1>where we'll be playing some spooky games. We got a <v Speaker 1>handful of things lined up. There's a couple that like <v Speaker 1>look like Lethal Company, but are newer and maybe even scarier. <v Speaker 1>I'll be we'll be getting the crew together for that <v Speaker 1>throughout this week. I'll probably play something today, though I <v Speaker 1>don't know what. I got like a pile of. <v Speaker 4>Games I was gonna play. Also, I think I want <v Speaker 4>to play the Evil Within two. <v Speaker 1>Might try that. I've never played that before. <v Speaker 4>We'll see. <v Speaker 1>We will find some time to play some of these games. <v Speaker 1>But look out for all that, and then yeah, we <v Speaker 1>go through this week and then next week's peak week. <v Speaker 1>Everybody b week is almost upon us, so look out <v Speaker 1>for that. It's gonna be a good time, all right, Emma, <v Speaker 1>thank you so much for spending to Oh wait, I <v Speaker 1>did do the new pole question. So yes, Emma, thank <v Speaker 1>you so much for speinding today talking with me about <v Speaker 1>video games. I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>Oh my pleasure. <v Speaker 1>I need to and thank you all for listening. And <v Speaker 1>until next time, have a good one, take care of <v Speaker 1>yourself and goodbye. <v Speaker 4>That's audience, and goodbye.
