Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:35
Speaker 3: Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Thursday, January sixteenth. I am here at the KS Bar and Grill on a nice day, finally not freezing. Got some folks here from skydiving in Nashville. Yeah, Drew d if Skadough you have not.

00:00:50
Speaker 4: I have not done that. No, I'd like to do sometimes you ought to.

00:00:53
Speaker 3: It's a it's an exhilarating rush. He invited us.

00:00:57
Speaker 4: I'm in just you mentioned that I have nightmare about that day.

00:01:00
Speaker 3: So Clark's Puppy Shop foul line is eight five nine eight oh twenty two eighty seven a Vishonatto glass text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four in this distion sponsored by the t J. Smith lobs. If you called tjil make them pay? Why do you have nightmares about that day? And all?

00:01:15
Speaker 4: If you remember you and Drew took off and left the radio show for Shannon me.

00:01:21
Speaker 3: Well, let's let's remind people. It was the Army Golden Knights, right, and they came to Fort Knox or Knox, and they were going to take local media people up in the air to jump out of planes. And they invited me and Drew and I did not want to do it, but Drew kind of taught me into it, and so we went. And then but they wanted us to do the radio show there. Now.

00:01:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, so you guys did like the first maybe thirty forty five minutes. Then you had to go get ready for your jump. You know, you had on your yellow jump shoot like big Bird. And during when after you guys left, Shannon can attest to this, they lost all power at the radio station back in Louisvaille. They could not run commercials, they could not take phone call. We were on the air for like over an hour straight with no breaks. Me and him in an empty field talking about you two guys get.

00:02:06
Speaker 2: In summer where there's nothing going on to the internet.

00:02:11
Speaker 3: So you couldn't talk to us. Oh, the flight was delayed, so you couldn't. It was delayed that I had a bad wind delay.

00:02:16
Speaker 5: They had a time where we were gonna land at like eleven forty five or eleven thirty perfectly, but we had like an hour delay, and they just had to do the show.

00:02:23
Speaker 3: So you all just had to.

00:02:25
Speaker 4: Uh, it'll it'll go down in history as the worst radio show in the history.

00:02:29
Speaker 3: Right.

00:02:29
Speaker 2: Here's the great thing though, We no longer have technical difficulties anymore on the shoots, so we don't worry about it.

00:02:34
Speaker 3: Why do you think it was so bad? I mean, it was just you and Shannon Riffin. I bet that was great.

00:02:38
Speaker 4: We can handle it for about twenty minutes, But then you talk about another hour of that. What did you talk about, Shannon? I don't even remember what we talked about.

00:02:46
Speaker 3: It's a nice day. Huh.

00:02:46
Speaker 2: Look at those cloud Look at the clouds coverage green out here.

00:02:50
Speaker 4: This is a nice to come to. Four knocks.

00:02:52
Speaker 3: Here's what I remember about that. We jumped out of the there were when they you know, we had a guy straight we were were we I guess we were strapped on them.

00:03:01
Speaker 5: They were on the we hang a little lower than that.

00:03:05
Speaker 3: Yeah. So the guy said, when we jump, you know, it'll be so many seconds. We'll go down and then I'll pull the thing. But you're gonna free fall for I don't know how I was twenty seconds matter, it felt like six years, but you uh, will free fall and they were gonna have Drew and I like we were right off each other. Huh. So as we were falling, it's kind of cool you're both falling fast, but it looked like we were right next to each other because we're falling like, well, I can still see Drew even though we're plummeting to the ground. Yeah, but then Drew's guy pulls his shoot and my guy does not, so Drew just like flies up in the air. Yeah, Drew disappears, and you know he can't he can't hear me talking. But like there's one second, two seconds and I'm like, hey man, my man, my man, are we still good? Like it's everything, you know, and then you know, when they pull it, there's a big jerk. Yeah, right now, I will say once. I don't know that I enjoyed the free fall. I was probably too nervous. But once you once the parachute comes out, the floating, that was one of the coolest things. Was it's beautiful and you're kind of peaceful up there, and it's it's really nice.

00:04:18
Speaker 4: Well, I know when you guys came down, we got after the radio show is over. When you finally jumped, you came down, you guys were both like, just so, uh, what's what I'm looking for? Just energetic, just you know, I'm cough the world. You were so excited about it. Yeah, I was for you, That's what I'm looking for.

00:04:30
Speaker 3: But my theory was, look, if you're gonna do this, you know, the Golden Knights, it'd be bad for publicity. If they took us out right here like it would be that would be a bad way for them to go.

00:04:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, I was thinking how rich my family would be if that went wrong. I'll never forget. Before we jumped, you actually have to hang out of the plane because the guy that is on your back has to stand on the edge. So you were literally leaning out of a plane and they tell you to look best, so you don't look down, because they're like, if you look down, people freak out, they quit. They immediately see just straight down and don't do it. And I had to take a peek, so I turned my head and with his hand he grabbed my jaw and turned it back towards the plane. But I saw enough that was terrifying.

00:05:08
Speaker 3: Was it was? It was awesome. I mean I enjoyed it.

00:05:10
Speaker 4: Did you do it again?

00:05:11
Speaker 3: Yeah? I don't know if I would. I mean it's like I had that moment. Don't again, that's right, Yeah, I mean I have one hundred shooting percent. Know. It's like Jerry Seinfeld said, I now refuse to race.

00:05:23
Speaker 4: Those guys probably do it well, like the guy here does it two thousand times.

00:05:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's but he's used to it. I think the second one might be harder than the first one because you don't totally know what you're getting into on the first one. Yeah, but I did enjoy it. I did enjoy it a lot.

00:05:36
Speaker 4: And uh, when you land, I didn't even ask you. This was like a big thud, like did you land?

00:05:41
Speaker 3: Kind? They tell you to like run like you ran, slide you lift your legs, slide that's right. Yeah, they legs up. You lift your legs up. He runs and your you slide on your butt. I got you.

00:05:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, they had handles on our legs and you would hold you you make sure you hold your legs up.

00:05:55
Speaker 3: Yeah. No, he's right about that. We landed in that big field. This is the other part I remember about that story though. You know, we we we finish and we driving back from Fort Knox and you were the whiniest person about having been stuck on the radio, like you were whining and complaining. It was awful. And I remember Drew he was like, you are I get to pick lunch. I get to pick lunch. And I'm like, okay, fine, man, Like why are you so working? He's like, I get to pick lunch. And I remember you picked the Dixie Highway Hooters.

00:06:25
Speaker 4: Try it went to Hooters, Dixie Highway Hooters where which I thought got an absurd choice as to where we go.

00:06:32
Speaker 3: And I remember the Dixie Highway Hooters pulling in there and going, I can't believe we're going here?

00:06:37
Speaker 5: Can I add another element to that? It was my birthday and at the Dixie Hooters I had to do the hula hoop birthday.

00:06:43
Speaker 3: Thing after and the plane and our our waitress was pregnant. I remember that at the time, I did good pick. I enjoyed that birthday. I do remember that well. That was that was a good time. If I'm nine two twenty two eighty seven, it's gonna be an Ask anything Thursday. You could ask any question about the back basketball team, about life, about KSR, whatever you want. Ask anything Thursday. And Ryan yesterday my you know, we had the show. Mario put out the video in the afternoon of my thank you to Tyson Foods was very good and it went pretty megaviral on every platform, but especially on Twitter and Facebook and Arkansas fans, you know, decided to weigh in. And one of the things that has been interesting is the amount of people, the vast majority of people seem to agree with everything I said, yes, because how could you not right? But there were there are these people out there that continue to say and some Kentucky fans, a lot of Arkansas fans, but some Kentucky fans going, why why do you enjoy your coach? Why are we talking about our former code. That's a big thing. And I was on SEC this morning, the radio show. They had me on this movie. Yeah, Alyssa Lang and Chris Doran, two people I really like I was on right before I walked in here, and they kind of asked me the same question. They are like, do fans really follow what's happening in Arkansas? And I I was like, well, yeah, of course they did. I mean, now whether we should or not might be a different conversation, but of course we did. And I am to the point that I'm like tired of people telling us that we shouldn't that we shouldn't care what happens there, because my answer would be this, what if it was flipped? What if they were three and one in conference and we were zero and four? What would happen to Mark Pope? Everyone would go you changed, see, be careful what you wish for. Grass is not always greener. On the other side, all that Jones, you ran off a great coach. They're gonna go burn bad back and they would do all that. So it is just natural that if it's in reverse, that the same thing would happen. Or am I wrong? No?

00:09:10
Speaker 4: I think it is natural. You know, cali Peri was a larger than life figure while he was here.

00:09:15
Speaker 3: And that is a testament to him. It is a testament to him and his huge personality that he matters like that. It's like when people used to get mad that Dion would get all that attention at Colorado. He gets it because of who he is. For better or worse, that's in Col's the same.

00:09:33
Speaker 4: Way, larger than Live Uber, popular for many many years in this state. And you look at their games. We know every one of their coaches, half their players played here, half their recruits were gonna come here. I mean it's like we know they're an extension of us. So that's why I would always be interested.

00:09:49
Speaker 3: That's a very good point too. I mean, just look at that bitch. Col Chin, Kenny Payne, Bruiser Flint, Brad cal Perry all have been here. A due Z Wagner have been here, Knox, Richmond, Boogie Flann would have been here. Jonas Adu played at Tennessee, Trevon Brazil played at Arkansas. I mean, John L. Davis is the only dude that we don't have any connection to dru So it's gonna be natural.

00:10:23
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I don't understand. Yesterday I was on our message board and we're all obviously talking about Arkansas because that game just happened and someone's like, well, you all just stop talking about it. I look up and Sports Center's talking about it, and I'm like, we're a Kentucky show. If it's Leading Sports Center, of course we're gonna talk about it. And even if it wasn't Leading Sports Center. It's very natural when you make a big decision or have a big change, to compare a to b to see if you're on the right track or made the right move. You're gonna look at you know, say, if you buy a new car and you like your new car features, you're gonna say, well, the old one didn't do this one. I like that this one does that. You're just naturally gonna compare the two things.

00:10:56
Speaker 3: I mean, I envy the people who can have a messy breakup and not care what happens to their ex like at all. But I couldn't do that. You know, if I had a messy breakup, I'd be like, well, you know, is she happier now? I don't. I want to be clear, I don't. It's hard for me to articulate this. I don't root for cal to fail in the sense that I want him to be miserable. Okay, I do root for him to lose, in the sense that it's better for us if he does, it's better for Pope. Like I guess in a relationship, if you break up with somebody, their happiness won't have an effect on your happiness, or should shouldn't. We can all be happy. But in basketball, when the team is in your conference, there is an inverse relationship to their happiness in yours. If he had gone and coached at Washington State, his success would not affect us. But he is in conference, it's going to affect us.

00:12:07
Speaker 4: So I guess the fair question to ask you, what if he was three and one, four and zero, how would you think we would look at it?

00:12:13
Speaker 3: Then if he was three and one and we were three and one, then our initial hypothesis, which was this was better for both, I think would be true. If he was three and one and we were row and four, everyone in the country would say they should have never gotten rid of pal, should have never run him off. Mark Pope wasn't the guy. So you know that's the way it is. And I know we have some fans that have a fondness for him, and you should I mean one of these days. He's going to come back here many years down the road and get probably a good reaction. But you know, some of us, not just me. I mean there are fans who wanted to change six years ago. You have to give people the chance to go. Maybe we were right when you all took those shots. Right.

00:13:08
Speaker 4: You think it's harder for the national media to see that.

00:13:10
Speaker 3: We know it here, but the national media is in two segments. Cow's friends like Seth Greenberg going to defend him no matter what. Cow's non friends are dancing because they they had to deal with it. I mean, the stuff I had to deal with for two or three years, there's people in the national media have been dealing with for twenty years.

00:13:29
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:13:31
Speaker 3: Right, so they're really dancing. So I mean again, when you're a big personality, people either love you or h and that's kind of how it is with him.

00:13:39
Speaker 5: And really, if you compare about or care about Kentucky, which I knew most people listen to the show, do you don't want John Caliperry to win the breakup because Kentucky needs to be Kentucky moving forward. And if it looked like it really was just Cal's headquarters here that's damaging to recruiting. That's true the future. Mark Pope's got to go into locker rooms or living rooms and say Kentucky is still Kentucky. He was a great coach here, but the brand is still the brand. And if Pope we're ow and four and Callen three were three and one, that would be very hard for Mark Popeye to go recruit. I think that's a really great If you don't think Cal and Chann and the boys aren't talking trash in every living room about Kentucky, then uh, then I got some.

00:14:17
Speaker 3: If we lose to them, let's say they come in here oh and seven and they beat us. That's gonna stink, but it's still in my mind, won't change the overall opinion that it was the best thing.

00:14:32
Speaker 5: You don't you agree? Well, if they come in here and win, I'm gonna go. That's John Cali Perry. He Arkansas for a month. He had us flexing and he went won a game and you counted. He's not gonna be in the tournament.

00:14:43
Speaker 3: He is going to beat somebody good. He will beat He might be Us, He'll beat Kentucky, Auburn, Tennessee or Alabama. I guarantee you he wins one of those games because he always did, always does. He always did that, and he will. I hope it's not us, because that would not be funf I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. It's Ask Anything Thursday. You can ask any question you want. Medvedev is playing tennis, Shannon. I want you to look up. They did one of those things where they turned the tennis into a cartoon. So Medvedev was playing in his first round. They turned his match into a cartoon. Well, he's got a heavy temper, He's he's very big tempered Russian, right, and he got mad and he started pounding his his his racket against the ground and the cartoon had to do what he was doing, so the cartoon was just hitting the sula. I'm it is very very funny. We'll take a break right back, TOCSR, welcome back and tell you sports radio. This is Chris Stapleton, right. Yes, he has his own channel now in Serious XM. And I really like it. I feel like he and I we have the same musical taste. Like he'll play songs from all different genres and I'm like, I like that one. I like that I say him, I don't think he's actually working as the DJ when it's happening, Shannon, I don't see him like going, you know, all right, next we're gonna on this. But I'm a I'm a big fan.

00:16:04
Speaker 2: He should go in there and at least do like some guests DJ ship things, like.

00:16:07
Speaker 3: He'll introduce a song. He'll be like George Jones is my favorite. You know, he'll he'll introduce songs. But but he like, I feel like he and I are just on the same heard a.

00:16:17
Speaker 4: Good story about it. You guys probably heard this, but like you know, he played baseball and football at Johnson Central. He'd go on road trips. He'd take his guitar and he'd play to the team, you know, while they're going or coming from the games and stuff.

00:16:28
Speaker 3: You better make sure you're good though, Yeah, you do that because like when I hear people just play out a guitar and start talking immediately, A'm like, no, please, don't.

00:16:35
Speaker 4: You don't want to be that guy at the party.

00:16:37
Speaker 2: There's always you still want to be the guy.

00:16:40
Speaker 3: Like when I was in college in the fraternity party and he's like, all right, I got the guitar and he starts singing. You're like, oh gosh, nobody wants.

00:16:46
Speaker 2: To hear this when everybody starts leaving.

00:16:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, you better be really good if you're gonna pull the guitar out worked out for Stapleton.

00:16:52
Speaker 5: So those guys that were on that bus probably have some fun stories to tell to their friends.

00:16:56
Speaker 3: Now, Yeah, one person, Right's man, I get nervous. Spent all this Arkansas talk before the game might be bad karma maybe, but like you just want to don't want to talk about it at all. I mean, you know, they're look, we're gonna we should beat them. If we don't, that'll be disappointed. But it doesn't change over all. They're zero to four and they still play like eight ranked teams, like they ain't making a tournament. I mean they play at Missouri Saturday. That was a game that looked like they could win. Well, now Missouri's good. Yeah, so they might be on five.

00:17:26
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they could come here and win by twenty five. They will absolutely stink and I will not look at Twitter. But then I'll probably just keep living my life and watch Kentucky basketball finish the season and have a great time.

00:17:35
Speaker 3: I love this one. This person writes with the way Brad dresses at the games. I look at the Arkansas staff and think they are a group of the righteous Gymstones. Brad does just like he could be on the righteous Gymstones. Right.

00:17:49
Speaker 4: Let me talked abut yesterday. They just sit there. They don't like. They don't have no coaching being done at all.

00:17:55
Speaker 3: The Dixie Highway Hooters, by the way, is now a car dealership.

00:17:58
Speaker 4: Really, I guess they got rid of that. I'm glad we went while it was doing it today.

00:18:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, thirteen years ago or twelve years ago? Uh eight nine, twenty two, eighty seven. One person rights, Matt, are you going? You guys are off Monday? Are you gonna watch the inauguration? No? I thought that's why you were taking off. Are you kidding me? Monday? I'm I'm I'm news blackout Monday. We got the game Monday night. And by the way, tomorrow, everybody needs to listen because I'm gonna be giving away spots. You know, I'm giving away four thousand dollars here Monday night from Country Roads Spirits. And if some of you have already qualified through the Bowl contest, but if you have not, you will you will have a chance to be part of that Monday Night. We will give away four thousand dollars in cold hard cash here Monday night for the National Championship. So be be listening tomorrow and on look on social media. I'm gonna be adding people all the time to have the chance to win.

00:18:56
Speaker 4: I'm glad you just ask that, because somebody just asked me yesterday, can they come Monday? In addict that this score is this part of the money.

00:19:02
Speaker 3: They come. If you quality, I mean, you can come. But in order to win win the money, you've got to have qualified. And we qualified by the earlier Bowl games or by some things I'm gonna do between now and money. But during the day, I'm not. Because he says he's gonna put on a hundred executive orders out, I think I'm not gonna like a lot of them. So I think I'm just gonna have to not pay attention and then get to the National Championship game and Notre Dame and uh what Notre Dame have any chance.

00:19:31
Speaker 5: I'm gonna be rooting for him, but I don't think so Ohio State just really hit another level after all that Michigan talk they went through.

00:19:37
Speaker 3: You think their fans still want to fire the coach if he wins the national champion Chickiman.

00:19:40
Speaker 5: I mean they really wanted him gone, and now it's looking like he's gonna bring him a trophy. So what an odd spot for him to be in?

00:19:46
Speaker 4: What the spread was nine? I mean that's a lot of points though, and.

00:19:51
Speaker 3: I mean Oliso State's got better players. But you know Mark's Freeman.

00:19:56
Speaker 5: You think he's handsome.

00:19:57
Speaker 3: I mean he's handsome and like that's gotta cap hansl Run. I can't picture what Ryan Day looks like.

00:20:03
Speaker 5: He's got the jet black beard.

00:20:06
Speaker 4: Very Jack Black? Jack Black is Jack Black?

00:20:10
Speaker 3: Yeah?

00:20:11
Speaker 4: Can you see it?

00:20:11
Speaker 3: No? Who's he looks like Jack? Bosh? How do you think he looks like Jack?

00:20:17
Speaker 4: Do you know what Jack Black looks like? Maybe I'm thinking the wrong guy doesn't have a beard?

00:20:21
Speaker 3: Does he? I guess he is? No? But no, are you thinking about Zach Gallafanakis? No?

00:20:25
Speaker 4: Well, who are you thinking of the School of Rock guy?

00:20:27
Speaker 3: That's Jack Black? But he doesn't have a beard.

00:20:30
Speaker 4: He doesn't have a beard.

00:20:31
Speaker 3: Oh you think that looks like Ryan Day?

00:20:33
Speaker 6: That means Jack around though? Yeah, yeah, I think it's not being who let's go to and.

00:20:45
Speaker 3: What's up and ask anything Thursday.

00:20:48
Speaker 7: Hey, guys, As the season goes along, I feel more and more vindicated because that's one of the guys, that one that cal parody's gone six years ago. So I home, you know, syndicated, and it's so funny.

00:21:03
Speaker 3: Man.

00:21:05
Speaker 7: I ran across the YouTuber in Arkansas. They're talking about Arkansas. It hasn't even been a year yet, and they want them gone already.

00:21:14
Speaker 3: Well, Arkansaw media should thank us for their views. I appreciate the call because I mean, when you're you know, the Arkansas fans aren't watching that stuff. Who wants to talk about a team that stinks? Those views are us right, and so they should thank us. I mean, and when John Nabors is here, we will thank him by giving him gifts, uh, you know, and and and nothing like take Tyson Foods. It was funny, but they were rubbing. They sent us a big box of chicken and said thank you for cow so like I'm gonna be able to say no, thank you, thank you, that's what what you should say.

00:21:49
Speaker 4: They were razorback nuggets that they sent us kind of you know, poking at his ear, you know, and a cutting board and cutting board cooler Urpley.

00:21:57
Speaker 3: Yetti's Yeah, I actually have an Arkansas sweatshirt from when during COVID when I went to an Arkansas football game with Bobby Bones. I'm gonna have to sacrifice it or something right there on February first before the game.

00:22:11
Speaker 4: That's actually a good idea. We could do something with that.

00:22:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, somebody told me where I could find a microwave and reparina, So I think I might be able to get my nugs cooked in there for the game if we're winning in the second half. Ill you mean just sit there and eat them, gonna pass them around Section two thirty six.

00:22:23
Speaker 3: Well, I mean they have in terms of part of the epic failure. Let's also remember they have the highest NIO of any team in the country. They spend five million dollars on this roster, so it's not just a failure in coaching. They have spent more money. You know, the two teams with the highest nil are them in Kansas State, and probably neither one of them is gonna make the tournament.

00:22:41
Speaker 5: Wow, Indiana's also high on that list.

00:22:44
Speaker 3: That's been a while. I want to talk about Indiana. We got to talk about your former You wanted to play for Bob Nye. The Indiana disaster is a whole nother level of disaster, which I kind of dug into last night. I didn't realize it was as bad as it was. We'll take a break right backs KSR. Good morning.

00:23:05
Speaker 5: TJ.

00:23:05
Speaker 3: Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay.

00:23:09
Speaker 2: No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:14
Speaker 3: Welcome back, Tukey Sports Radio. A Fi'm nine two twenty two eighty seven. Apparently I received false info. Dixie Highway Hooters still there? Yes, so if you want to have a reunion there, we we can't.

00:23:26
Speaker 4: Where was the Hooters?

00:23:28
Speaker 3: Where you say all of them? The Hooters?

00:23:30
Speaker 4: You say even getting beat up.

00:23:31
Speaker 3: Preston Highway you should have gotten beat up. Were really dumb. You hit someone's car, which was really stupid. You punched their car.

00:23:39
Speaker 4: He tried to run me over.

00:23:42
Speaker 3: I mean it was not good because he said he was gonna go get something and come back. And remember the the woman at Hooters called the police. Yeah that was that was a dangerous little situation. And you know you're also on Preston Highway. You gotta ki that's with out there. There are certain parts of Louisville that, like, you know what, mine year own business Preston Highway would be one of those for me.

00:24:06
Speaker 4: He threw his door open, and I thought I heard click, click, and he's like, you don't do stuff like that around here, son, And then I hear this glorious voice from coming across the parking lot. Oh wait a minute, my man, my man, hold on, hold on, hold on right, get inside, right, go inside.

00:24:19
Speaker 3: I was definitely the peacekeeper there. You you know, you'd lost your mind, and like a guy who's like almost hit you with the car and who's talking about a gun is not the person to start arguing with. And I was like, just get inside.

00:24:33
Speaker 5: I was just gonna.

00:24:34
Speaker 3: I threw my body in front of you like a secret service agent to make.

00:24:38
Speaker 4: Sure you were okay. I owe you my life, sir.

00:24:40
Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you very much. I do want to before you go back, phones mentioned one thing I forgot to talk about on Monday because we were so happy about the uh, the game against Mississippi State. You remember, uh, you know how I like the f A Cup. Yes, okay, for people who don't remember, the FA Cup is where all the teams in England play jokes, not just the big pro teams but also the little tiny teams like you and I Sar could have a team. We could have the ks Bar team and we would have a chance, a small chance, but a chance to beat a bunch of teams and then get to play like Manchester Unite. Right, That's how it works, so it's very cool. Nothing like it in America. Round three. You know, they have all these qualified rounds, but then by the time you get to round three, that's where you get to where the big teams and the little teams can play. Jo and Tottenham Hotspur drew a team called Tranmere Blind Draw, Blind Draw and had to play or Tamworth excuse me, right to Tamworth had to play there. So they played in this little stadium that only held a thousand people, Shannon. The Tamworth team had guys who had They all had other jobs. One of them worked delivering pastries, one of them worked in a zipper factory. Like these dudes had regular jobs and then played soccer for fun. And here comes Tottenham Hotspur, who's ross is paid three hundred million dollars this year. Wow, So they show up. I of course turn on the game. It's a beautiful spectacle. It's literally like they're playing this at you know, Harlan High School, right, and here come these guys who are these multi millionaires. And the crazy thing was they're playing them pretty good. Yeah, into the first half, tied at zero. End of the second half, Tamworth on those scores, like they're right there. They miss a chip shot they could have won.

00:26:30
Speaker 5: They had two shots.

00:26:31
Speaker 3: They had two shots where they could have won and maybe produced the biggest upset in the history of sports. They missed it. Then it went to extra time, and an extra time they kind of got run over. But watching it, it was such a nice, beautiful thing. And they just kept talking about this is the Baker, and this is the zipper Baker, and this is like the Cobbler and all this stuff, and I I you know, Tottenham at first started their reserves because they thought they didn't need to play their starters. The team played so well they had to put all their starters in and still they had him, held him off, but couldn't quite win. It was a beautiful It was a beautiful thing.

00:27:06
Speaker 4: I love the story, the whole thing. I love what you said that they had taught him, wanted to agreed to you can play at our place, and the other team's like no, no, no, no, no, you're coming to our town.

00:27:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, so they so they had that. It was if you it's on ESPN Plus, you know, I mean, it's a boring soccer match, but y'all to watch the beginning because at the beginning, these dudes are like just I mean it just it looks like, you know, elite athletes versus Larry Moe and curly shit. And and it was. It was a great thing to watch, and I really enjoyed it.

00:27:35
Speaker 2: Pros versus Joe's. And if the Joe's beat the pros, I think that the pro should have to go and take the other people's jobs.

00:27:40
Speaker 3: Maybe soccer's probably the only sport where you could do that and it wouldn't just be a complete rout. And so it was fun to watch. You tell this, You.

00:27:53
Speaker 4: Told us the story one time some dude was like a bartender or something of the goalie. They had brought him out at the last minute when he.

00:27:58
Speaker 3: Was in hockey. I was the Carolina hockey bad? How was the Carolina Hurricanes where their goalies all got hurt and in every arena. They just have an emergency goalie who just sits in the crowd in case anybody needs him, and then they brought him in and he won.

00:28:12
Speaker 4: He won, which was which was I wish the the small team would have won this because you're right, it would have been the biggest story, yes, the top, you know, in the world wide.

00:28:21
Speaker 3: I was watching it while I was on ESPN. I was pulling for him, but they couldn't quite do it. Who's next? Shit? Ryan, Ryan? Go ahead? Ryan?

00:28:29
Speaker 8: Hey, Matt uh All, This talk about Cal this morning's got me thinking back through the process last March and April. Uh you know, we get beat by Oakland, then we have a video with Mitch, the awkward video in the office, and then we really need to be thankful that he he talked to Arkansas or the Tyson Foods at the final four man. That was also something we need to be thankful for. But could you imagine if he was still in Lexington and the roles were reversed and we're rowing four in the st be what kind of move?

00:29:03
Speaker 3: Thought this? I thought about this last night. I appreciate the calls. I was watching one of the games. If Cal had come back and we were zero and four right now, this would be miserable. It would be miserable. It would be like it would just be miserable, Drew, and there would be like, no, I don't know that there would even be an end inside. It would like people wouldn't go to the games. It would be awful out.

00:29:32
Speaker 5: A friend text me when LSU won the other night that said Lexidon would be on fire right now, and I was like, I'm not sure there would be a Lexington at this point, because you got to think he probably would have had a worse roster. But there's the schedule he would have had. At Kentucky, we would have gone and lost to Duke by million.

00:29:48
Speaker 3: We would have lost.

00:29:48
Speaker 5: Agains Zaga by a million. We would have had more losses than Arkansas had. Now, if this Kentucky had a lot more marquee games. Who knows, Louisville might have gone interrupt. This would have been on fire in Lexington. Loim might have been this. That's true, So the oh and four could have been an afterthought if if if we had run it back with him again.

00:30:05
Speaker 4: We were already a fractured fan base going into the season. Yes, if they had gone oh and four, it would have just been been off. We would have had to have been honest on this show. We couldn't try to sugar coat stuff.

00:30:15
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, let's be real, I might not have been on the air. I mean, you know, yeah, if you're on you I mean there there's a world where I might not have been on the air. They might literally I mean you know, I mean, Shannon, there's two people you know who are probably the two most powerful sports figures in Kentucky of the last.

00:30:37
Speaker 4: Ten years, Patino and Cal Perry.

00:30:39
Speaker 3: Okay, who would be the third KIM.

00:30:41
Speaker 4: Host Mitch Marnhart Durich.

00:30:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, we took the bullets from two of those three. Huh and the third woe ended up on the show. Did you see the uh? Did you see what the Auburn fan did at the Auburn Mississippi State So Mississippi State their official social media guy, like the guy who types their official tweets. Huh, and he types their official whatevers. So the first of all, there was the guy. Was it the same guy that's in the Coconut bra I think it's the same guy. I don't know. If you go look, Ron Slay interviews a guy in a coconut bra and he looks exactly like you would think a guy at a game with a coconut bra looks like right he's in the student section. He interviews him, you know, he's like, it's great during the game. The Mississippi State. Uh, that's what he looks like right there, he looks that's like every Auburn fan, but with a coconut.

00:31:40
Speaker 5: Here's a bucket head on with a coconut bra.

00:31:42
Speaker 3: He the Missippi State social media person leaves their computer open and gets up to do something. He I think it was him. If it wasn't him, it was somebody else. But they go and get on the computer and tweet out war damn Eagle from the official Mississippi State to count.

00:32:00
Speaker 4: Brilliant, what a boss move.

00:32:03
Speaker 3: And it was up there for a few minutes and then somebody came and got it. But like he got on, he saw a guy or a woman at the computer and was like, that's the official Missippi State of count. I'm going to go sit at the computer and type a message about Auburn. And he did. Drew, that's pretty amazing.

00:32:20
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean to you know, I go to games with my computer and I'll leave my computer open. Sometimes I'll walk off and I'm like, I just left my computer wide open with all these people around, but I think no one would actually go sit down and start typing. Nope, this person will do it and did it with the Pony team. It was like two minutes before tip off too.

00:32:38
Speaker 3: So the official account right that he did it with.

00:32:41
Speaker 4: Can you imagine walking across Auburn's campus the next day. Man, he's a legend that gotta be talked about forever.

00:32:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, and he and they, we don't know if it was the coconut.

00:32:50
Speaker 4: Let me think it was.

00:32:51
Speaker 5: I don't think they pinpointed who did it, but they just no offended it.

00:32:54
Speaker 3: Yes, well, uh, hey, you know, there's many reasons to buy beef directly from the farm versus the grocery store, which is you need to check out No Chay Linda Farms. The environment that cow has raised in is much cleaner, much safer than the commercial beef, and it tastes better. Farm raised beef is free from antibiotics and hormonosos. You think they just mean hormones and they accidentally added to oh.

00:33:16
Speaker 4: That does I don't know what hormonosos is.

00:33:21
Speaker 5: Hormones Oh that one got past spellcheck.

00:33:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, because I don't think there's anything called hormonoso.

00:33:26
Speaker 5: If it's truly hormones. Oh, I think that would be hormones.

00:33:29
Speaker 3: When you buy from no Chay Linda Kentucky Proud Product, you're supporting local business. No Chay Linda Stride twenty four days go check them out. No chaylendofarms dot com. These guys are always cooking it. I gave some of mine to Max. He makes it very good stuff. At eighty five nine seven oh seven, seven thousand and four. It's no Chay Linda Farms dot com. Once I get my cooking going, I'm gonna start cooking. Lin, I was gonna see chame some we are you laughing at?

00:33:55
Speaker 4: Had something caught my throat?

00:33:56
Speaker 3: Oh?

00:33:57
Speaker 2: That was you, Yeah, but I was laughing too.

00:34:01
Speaker 3: Well. I'm not ready Monday. Monday, We're just go to a movie or something. We'll take a break right back. This Kazar walking back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio A f nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. The text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. Matt, Ryan and Drew getting ready on a Thursday. You know we got what tomorrow we are at We are at Bespoken Spirits, yes, which is over there in the Loudon station. And I'm giving away Kentucky Alabama tickets. So if that doesn't make you want to come out to get Kentucky Alabama tics. And again I know where their tickets are. These are good tickets. Like these are like you'll be sitting where the mayor of Louisville sat the other night kind of kind of tickets. Did you see him right behind the bench.

00:34:45
Speaker 4: I saw him every time they take Pope. I saw Mayor Greenberg behind the bitch. I didn't text you like, hey, the Mayor's got some good seats tonight.

00:34:51
Speaker 3: Ask anything. Thursday, one person writes, the day Max was supposed to do the show and he didn't show up. Whatever happened to it? Well, uh, I two pm. He wasn't awake yet. I guess some Australians had come to town and he apparently was up till four thirty in the morning and he forgot to set his alarm. That's what That's what happened. And then he just disappeared for a month, just left town. He's back now, though, Okay, No, he's alive.

00:35:16
Speaker 4: We can give him a pass.

00:35:17
Speaker 3: Then, yeah, I mean I understand it's it's okay. The NCAA has said now that for basketball, your two exhibition games they can be against teams that are Division one. You can now you don't have to play like Trancy and Georgetown. You can play whoever you want and the games can be on television. Before you could play a game against that, but it had to be for charity and it couldn't be on TV. Now it doesn't have to be for charity and can be on TV, which means you have the ability to play you know, do Kansas whatever? Do you like that? I do?

00:35:54
Speaker 5: Uh, we're getting too. I kind of hope we'll split it. Play maybe a Kentucky team like they've done for so long, whether it be Kentucky stick or Georgetown or you know, we've even had Wesley in here.

00:36:03
Speaker 3: Transey.

00:36:03
Speaker 5: Keep one of those and then give us a good opponent in the second one.

00:36:07
Speaker 3: It's it's it stinks for those schools because that actually is big for their athletic departments to play one of those games. They get a decent little chunk of money that can be I remember when it was at Trancy, like it helped pay for a renovation in the locker room was when Trancy played Kentucky, So that does stink. But for fans getting to see them play a real game, it doesn't count. But a game against a good team is good.

00:36:29
Speaker 4: MoMA Drew. I hope they at least keep one of those games to like one of the other schools we're talking about. But you know, these schools have been playing these secret games and then we keep hearing in a word, leak out. I have to not secret. Now we get to go watch them play, so I think it's a it's huge. Actually, it'll be a big fun.

00:36:46
Speaker 3: If it's against a big team, but it doesn't count. That would be kind of weird. Well, it like if you played Connecticut, but it doesn't count.

00:36:57
Speaker 4: We still want to win, though.

00:36:59
Speaker 5: I think the excitement will still be high because that's your first time really seeing the team. But you know, going home, it doesn't hurt you. It's a little house money game. But I think people would still really get into it because you're gonna be watching your team for the first time or maybe second.

00:37:12
Speaker 3: So who would you who would you would you want to play? Who would you want to play? I mean, you want to use it as a chance to play a team that we don't play, or what do you want to do with it?

00:37:23
Speaker 4: Me personally, I would want to play somebody. Yeah, we don't play. It's somebody not on. You know that we haven't played in a while.

00:37:29
Speaker 3: So play like Trancy and Yukon.

00:37:32
Speaker 4: That'd be a perfect way to start, absolutely perfect. Play those if Kentucky, Wesley and Villanova, you know something like that.

00:37:38
Speaker 5: Yeah, if a team's too good, they're gonna want you to come back though for the next exhibition.

00:37:42
Speaker 3: Maybe they are.

00:37:44
Speaker 5: I want to do you don't want to give up an exhibition The following good point.

00:37:47
Speaker 3: Here's what I wouldn't enjoy. I wouldn't enjoy trading Georgetown for Marshall or something like that, you know what I mean. Like, I either want us to play one of these small teams have fun, or I want us to play somebody good. I don't want to see us going and play in Oregon State.

00:38:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, like I did.

00:38:07
Speaker 3: I don't think that would be fun, Drew. You know, it's like, either play somebody really good or let's keep doing what we were doing.

00:38:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, either play locally teams that are never gonna be on the actual schedule. See some Kentucky guys have fun there. Let those schools make a little money, or give give somebody exciting a middle of the road a mid major that you're just gonna play in the few weeks later on the schedule.

00:38:26
Speaker 3: I don't want to do that. Yeah, who's up next, Shannon, Let's go to Brian. Brian, Go ahead, Brian.

00:38:32
Speaker 8: Ay, first time?

00:38:32
Speaker 3: Long time? Who are.

00:38:36
Speaker 7: Hey? Matt, Who, in your best opinion, came closer to costing your job?

00:38:41
Speaker 3: Jurich or cal Ah Probably cal Jurich put more pressure on, but he didn't. But like you know, I mean, the thing was like the Louisville athletic director being mad at the Kentucky radio host. Is what a shot? Right? Like, I mean, that's the whole point. But when it was a Kentucky person, I do think that put would would put would have put my bosses in a tougher position. I mean, I understood. But again, this was only a handful of days because this was part you know, you had the Tuesday where he and Mitch sit there and do that interview. This is just my take. I can't prove this, but this is just my take from things I've heard and I feel ninety five percent confident on I think part of the sort of thing was was cal saying to these folks, Okay, here's some of the stuff I want. And one of the things is detach KSR from any affiliation with UK, and because we are on the official UK station, that was going to be a difficult point. I think my bosses at iHeart were willing to take up from I know they were, but you know, you got to know how much they're gonna push it, right. I mean, there's a there, and we were kind of starting those conversations and then he leaves right, so that made it much easier. Jordge specifically said fire math and UK was like, excuse me. iHeart was like no, because you know they Jeordge made a lot of people mad because he tried to bully everybody. You know Jeordge and I appreciate the call. He's a little bit like like our next president in the sense of like for Jurich, it was all about do you like me or not? And he and if you didn't, he came after you. And I just was one, but I wasn't the only person he came after. He came after Venetti. He he came after a lot of people, and let's be real, the contract moved from My Heart to the current station because they didn't like us. That's what they did. So you know McConnell, well, Mitch mccononal had more power because Mitch McConnell went to the Federal Election Federal Communications Commission and fired filed a complaint. And the way the law works is if they kept me on the air and Mitch won the complaint, they would have had like I Heart would have had like quadruple damages. But what was devious about what Mitch did is the board that would hear the complaint needed one more member to have quarm. He refused to confirm the final member so that they could never have the hearing. So we could have had the hearing and I could have been back on the air, but they couldn't have a hearing because they didn't have enough members and Mitch wouldn't let them have enough members. So I was just in limbo. I mean, you know it was it was like Mitch McConnell, it was a deviously smart thing to do. But if you think about it, Cal Juriche, Mitch and Amy mcgrad, it's quite a foursome that I've found a way to make mad over.

00:42:01
Speaker 4: The last few years, and you're still sitting here loud and proud.

00:42:05
Speaker 3: I don't want to be too want to don't want karmel too much.

00:42:07
Speaker 4: Knock on wood, but the cow thing here definitely had legs, and the cow thing go.

00:42:13
Speaker 3: Back to the days. Tuesday's their agreement. On Thursday, I have a phone call that makes me think, oh no, next week is gonna be quite a week. And then on Saturday it starts the leak. He might leave, so I'm glad he did. We'll take a break, be right back. Number two. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
